It's the thing I was working on this morning. Well... thinking about rearranging my perspective some more in a lot of different areas...ways that I need to reconsider what's important and not, as well as apologies. What for, how to.
Lots of ruptures. Lots of need for growth.
Shame, specifically, is the topic of the day. It'll stay that way for while, likely.
It was funny to see that topic touched on on the Jung subreddit. I obviously don't really understand the nitty gritty, the terms, etc. but they keep speaking English so... It's understandable enough.
I'm not going to go into depth. I'd like to, but it feels pretty apparent that even though a lot of my complexes stem from being alone while wanting help, it'll stay that way, and may be that's what needs to happen. Gotta be able to handle after therapy and meds, gotta be able to handle to retain the progress. No meds or therapy this time, but...I'm glad that my algorithm, the people I watch on here, the things my brain is working on about are generally helpful; going along with my progress. I am finding things to learn from. I'm going to work on not pushing people away...though I still feel some dread in that. I'll apologize to family members after studying more of the reasons that I should. I can't will them to be better or know how to help, and I came from them, so it makes sense they just happen to be a lot like me in this area. Violently independent. Scared of not knowing how-to themselves, scared of other's failures or unwillingnesses. They are absolutely trying, especially in the face of what all's been going on. I think the ways to move forward, for me personally, are in my decisions to be better as well as just forward movement; the opportunity to rise to whatever occasions come.
If you're here, I'm sorry to you for many things. I apologize for putting you in all of the awkward positions that I have. I have no idea of what to be thankful for, but there are a lot of things that even the idea of you have helped me do.
I have realized a loneliness in myself as of late, but...it's not what I have felt or thought about you, not in the same spot in my mind at all. I'm fine. In fact, everything's going pretty well. I'm scared for something I'm unwilling to mention on here right now...even when I was "Functioning!" on my holey foundation it was one of my most sobering problems.
I do like you. I am interested. It wasn't some fascile, horseshit, imprinty-transferance type of thing. I am so curious, and it comes from a happy, light place that is central and controlled, though I can't imagine you're not at least relatively aware of my feverish, ovwewhelming thoughts for you as well.
I've since realized that it was all very unlikely, one. Two, I have shown myself as a flighty red flag amongst other things...and three... even if I weren't, it's not enough. The last one...well, and the first one were things I'd thought of all along, though the third I didn't realize the extent, the first, I didn't predict the reasons correctly. The second.. that, I wasn't as honest with myself on.
I hope I haven't caused you too much problem. I appreciate you trying to be patient with me. Seriously.

10 years ago, the Denver Nuggets drafted a 7 ft tall, unknown center from Serbia in the second round. It wasn't even shown on tv; the network was busy running a Taco Bell ad.
Jokic is fast, one of the strongest players in the league, and one of the best conditioned. He plays at a mile high altitude (18% less oxygen than sea level), and after every single game he plays, he goes back to the weight room with a trainer and lifts weights and does cardio for another two hours. He is also one of the most supremely skilled centers in history in terms of footwork, touch on the ball, making shots, and circus-style passes to teammates that absolutely defy belief.
But he doesn't fit the male gaze aesthetic box: he doesn't have a lot of definition in his arm muscles. He doesn't have a six pack. His arms flop and he shuffles when he runs. He looks nothing like a Michael Jordan or Lebron James, who play with flash and swagger and look and play like they just came out of a Marvel Movie. Stephen A Smith, a top sports commentator on ESPN, once famously called Nicola Jokic "A fat tub of lard who can't jump over a curb." He also got a reputation for "not caring" about basketball. He doesn't mean mug, flex, dance or celebrate after big plays. He very, very rarely talks shit, and when he does, it's wholesome and polite. He gives credit where credit is due in a calm and passive voice during interviews. And he refuses to play Hero Ball. The Nuggets are known for playing unselfish team ball, led by Jokic. He could be scoring 40 to 50 points a game, but instead leads the league in assists, passing the ball to teammates who are shooting hot or in better positions to score. His teammates (with the exception of maybe Jamal Murray, who can be a selfish shithead and often is) have embraced Jokic's ethics, selflessness, and philosophies behind team ball. Aaron Gordon, who was drafted to be a #1 star in Orlando and was traded to the Nuggets a couple years ago, has embraced Jokic' style of play and humility, even though he's often the third or fourth best player on the team. This interview the other day was really amazing.
In an age of American anti-intellectualism, Jokic is a robot brain who dissects strategy and positioning and plays chess when everyone plays checkers.
Even off the court, Jokic refuses to buy into the male gaze/toxic masculinity trappings. He has a nice house, but doesn't drive a flashy car or wear flashy clothes. He married his high school sweetheart, is the dad to a toddler daughter, and is fiercely devoted to them. You never see him living the high life, clubbing, or trying to be cool on TV. At most someone will snap a candid photo of him out at a dinosaur exhibit, with his daughter on his shoulders.
Despite his refusal to play the superstar game, Jokic has been wiping the floor with the rest of the NBA. He won MVP in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, sports commentators started pushing Joel Embiid to win over Jokic. Embiid is tall, strong, aggressive to the point of violence on the court, has a lot of swagger and ego. In other words, more of the masculine hero aesthetic and personality men want to see and emulate. Embiid flailed out of the playoffs early. Jokic and the Nuggets went on a tear, destroyed the playoffs, won their first championship, and Jokic won Finals MVP.
In a hilarious and famous interview after winning his first championship, instead of basking in the glory and the limelight and crowing about his accomplishments, Jokic was sad to find out he'd have to stay for a parade a few days later because it would keep him away from his beloved horses waiting for him on his farm in Serbia.
After experiencing Denver's joy and pride, Jokic was touched by the fan support during the parade and has loosened up a bit this year with the media. He also started doing a couple commercials. Not the cereal box and warrior-coded commercials. But goofy ones with a young teammate and a pony, and this recent hysterical one for Dispicable Me 4 (when this dropped during the playoffs, Jokic rolled up to the arena dressed as Gru).
The NBA brass and sports media have been beside themselves trying to push any flashy star besides Jokic and any other team than the Nuggets. Despite the Nuggets continuing to dominate in play, sports media rarely mentioned them and continued to try to push a lackluster, 10th place Lakers with Lebron James and Anthony Davis, who are much more likely to look good on a lunchbox. Strangely, the Nugget's scheduling had more exhausting back to back next day games by far than any other team in the league. Despite being a leading player in the league, referees refused to call fouls in Jokic' favor at the same rate as the other stars, or even mundane players, despite the fact that every game Jokic would sport multiple visible nail scratches covering his arms, sometimes to the point of bleeding.
It didn't matter. The Nuggets still swept the Los Angeles Lakers 12 games in a row, and the Boston Celtics. They tied for most wins in their division. And once again, Jokic won league MVP. The league and media institution were so sour that the "boring," "lazy," "fat" European won again, Shaqueel O'Neil opened up the awards presentation by telling Jokic to his face that another player should have won.
The Nuggets are currently in the second round of the playoffs. They were low energy and not great the first two games, dropping to a young and hungry Minnesota team with a 22 year old phenom named Anthony Edwards, who the media spent a week splashing across their screens and calling him the next Michael Jordan. The Nuggets and Jokic woke up and have won the last three games in absolutely embarrassing fashion. Last night, after accepting the MVP trophy at his home arena, Jokich played one of the most dominant solo games in the history of the NBA, absolutely wrecking an asshole 4 time defensive player of the year in Rudy Gobert like the dude wasn't even there. At this point, the opposing team, and the media, are shrugging their shoulders and begrugingly admitting there's nothing they can do. This guy is one of the best players in history, and nobody is going to be able to stop him.
Jokic's only acknowledgement in the press conference was a dry, deadpan, self deprecating admission that he's a freak of nature.
So if you're bored and want to watch a bunch of dudes subvert patriarchal expectations of what athletic men are supposed to be, Nuggets playoffs basketball is pretty fucking fun to watch. And they're dragging the NBA into prioritizing team play and humility over stars and aesthetics , whether they like it or not. The needle on what we should idolize in this country is moving.

Plot

When the Traveling Baboon Show led by Uroho arrives in the Pride Lands to perform their show, they end up stealing the other animals' food. After chasing the baboons to the Outlands, the Lion Guard has to come to their rescue when they are cornered by Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu.

Pros
-There aren't that many pluses to this episode, for me. However, I did like Kion and Ma Tembo's interactions in this. This episode feels like a precursor of their "child/adult friendship" for the rest of Season 2. I like their interaction at the start and when they discover there's a food thief. Unfortunately, they are not enough to save this episode.
-"No, but, we will hear you chewing," Fuli, Misophonic icon.
-"Me too! I was in a panic, let me tell you!" Thurston. It's funny because he's always in a panic.
-"I like 'em better on my inside than my outside," Bunga, best line in the entire episode.
-I will admit, I do like the addition of Yellow Baboons in The Lion Guard because they are a different species of baboon than the rest of them in the Pride Lands. So, I like that the animators added a new species for the kids. It's just really unfortunate that they made them really unlikable and annoying.
-"Or, if you're a zebra, panicking and running!" Alright fine, that was the funniest Uroho line in the whole episode, but, I still hate him.
-"It's funny because it's true," Thurston, at least he's aware of it. What an icon.
-I've always loved Ono in this episode because I empathise with him and I feel his frustration. "Yes, they're hysterical. Ha ha," I love his sarcasm. He hates them as much as I do.
-Beshte, "Like my dad says, it's not fair to take more than your share." Wise words from Basi. Also, I always loved when Beshte recites his father's sage advice.
-Ono, speaking nothing, but facts, "Plus, some zebras are afraid of.... bugs!"
-Bunga's "Baboons" was a funny line in the episode. He understands where Fuli and Ono are coming from by then.
-Cheezi and Chungu were funny at first, but, to me, it got old really quickly as soon as the baboon trio arrived into the Outlands.
Cons
-Okay, while the idea of there being a food thief in the Pride Lands sounds cool, the series has already explored that in episodes like "The Kupatana Celebration" and "The Call of the Drongo" and we saw two different outcomes. In the former, Reirei and the jackals got punished for stealing food and for scamming the animals of the Pride Lands, and in the latter, Tamaa was stealing food at first, but did learn from and correct his mistake. I find the two of them much more watchable than this lackluster episode. Plus, nothing thrilling happens in this episode, it's just the Lion Guard investigating on area of the Pride Lands and very slowly trying to piece together who the food thieves are. Plus, they don't even ask around and no animal is in any real danger, here. We don't get a change of scenery, apart from the baboons' performance and the one area of the Pride Lands.
-Okay, as I already said, this episode is a complete rehash of "The Kupatana Celebration", "The Call of the Drongo" and "Ono's Idol", which are much better episodes than this and have more going on. We already had the whole "food thief" plotline in the first two and it was way better. It's very predictable with any twists and turns, and it's not very interesting. I thought the dialogue was quite weak. We can all guess exactly what will happen even if we've never it before (I have watched it when it premiered). Also, I thought the baboons were weak antagonists, personally with no redeeming or interesting qualities, whatsoever. But seriously, switch out the baboon trio for Reirei's pack or Tamaa, and it's the same story, except that the jackals actually got their comeuppance and Tamaa learned his lesson.
-The baboons are very unlikable and I don't feel like they earned their redemption arc at all. At least, with Tamaa, he wasn't entirely antagonistic in his episode, he was more morally-grey and he was unable to gather food for himself. So, we can kind of feel bad for him. Also, Tamaa was, deep down, aware that he was in the wrong for stealing and he actually took the initiative to correct his mistake in the end, no prompting from the Lion Guard. With Hadithi, in his episode, he did have a conscience deep down all along and felt guilty for always lying to Ono. He also feels guilty during the ceremony and makes a proper effort to apologise and help Ono, and even commends the young egret at the end for his act of heroism. Those were both examples of "Selfish character learns to put the needs of others before their own" done right.
-Another reason I think that the baboon troop had no qualms about stealing food and going against the circle of life, is that they kept juggling and throwing Ono around against his will because they knew he would figure it out and expose them as the thieves. I don't think they actually wanted him as part of the act, I think they intimidated by his presence. Also, the circus soon becomes clear that it's just a cover up to throw the Pride Landers off, so, they can't be exposed. When eventually Ono figures out that they are the thieves, Uroho tries to talk himself out of trouble, but to no avail, just like Reirei had tried when her pack were discovered. So, overall, I think the baboons were very aware that they were in the wrong, but, didn't care, they only cared about being popular from performing.
-"Bunga and the Baboons" would've been genuinely funny, to me, except for the fact that we'd already seen the baboons mistreating Ono against his will by forcing him to be part of the act. I have to wonder, I know Bunga is being Bunga, but, why would he want to do the act when Ono, one of his best friends, is being thrown around by said baboons.
-That's another thing, I really don't like Ono being treated as the Butt-Monkey. I don't like his mistreatment from Mwevi and Mwizi, and the fact that no one on the Lion Guard does anything to prevent it. I thought Kion and his friends were a little bit mean here, the way they laughed at Ono even though he was clearly being roped into a performance he didn't want to be in. "What the hell, guys! This is your friend, Ono, and a valuable member of the Lion Guard. Why would you guys just stand there and intervene when he's clearly being juggled around, screaming?" That doesn't sound like any of them. Kion has pounced on several of the bad guys for trying mistreat his friends and allies, as well as trouble-making and he's also pounced on Hafifu and Majinuni for messing with some pangolins." Why wouldn't he just pounce on Mwevi and Mwizi right then and there, for his friend Ono?
-"It was pretty funny when they juggled you like a sausage fruit." and "Funny! That was hilarious..." No, it was not. I think was the one time I didn't like Beshte's character and Bunga's, for that matter. I don't like that they do not defend Ono even once and that they're laughing at his annoyance.
-"Come on, Bunga. Who are gonna believe, your friend, Ono or a couple of baboons?" Thank you, Fuli. I really don't like these stupid or mindless Bunga tropes that the writers like to throw in. The Bunga I know would believe Ono, in a heartbeat! Plus, Bunga has already proven before that he is, in fact, intelligent when he needs to be. So, I hate this trope of stupid, idiotic, doesn't know where he's been Bunga. "Bunga, we already know have an capacity larger than Thurston. This is disappointing behaviour on your part." Also, the whole "Hi" joke was pointless. He already knows that Ono was referring to him and the rest of the Lion Guard. So, what was the point?
-Thurston is really rude in this episode. I don't like obnoxious and rude Thurston. "Excuse me, I believe I had something very important to say." Thurston, you'll get your turn to speak eventually.
-I really loathe Ono being made the butt of every joke with the baboon trio. He deserved so much better and he shouldn't have been made for cheap laughs, in this episode. "Ono, why would you keep letting them treat you like this, my friend? You should've seen it coming the second and third time." I dare you guys to name a single Ono fan who enjoyed this!
-Mwevi and Mwizi were obnoxious with the way were stealing and hoarding food from other animals in the Pride Landers. As Pride Landers, they should know that, as a general rule, you're not allowed to steal and that it goes against the circle of life. There's also the fact that they continued to hide the evidence, even after Ono caught them red-handed, further proving my point that they must feel no guilt about it.
-It's doubly a crime against nature because they did it so close to the Dry Season and didn't even apologise or own up to what they did. This makes them absolute scumbags since food scarcity is extremely high during the Dry Season. Another reason why I don't think they have their redemption and why it could've been much better. They also ran away from Kion and the Lion Guard instead of, I don't know.... turning themselves in.
-I don't like how the baboons are invading everyone's space as part of their act. Audience participation has to be a personal choice and shouldn't be forced upon someone. Not only did they force Ono to perform by just throwing him around, but, they also went around invading everyone's personal boundaries and using them in their act. First, with Fuli, when Mwevi and Mwizi jumped on her back without permission, despite the fact that she didn't like it, and also the fact that Uroho purposely used Ma Tembo's trunk for the act without her permission. I don't like the fact that they just make all the animals be in the show against their will and without a slight care for personal space.
-Uroho, "Sorry, but, I'm not sorry!" Uroho, you're such a jerk. See, the writers are literally handing me proof, on a silver platter, that Uroho and his troupe did not feel any guilt for their actions and, therefore, didn't earn their redemption arc in the end. Also, I don't like the fact that he didn't so any sign of redemption until after the Lion Guard saved them. So, did he actually genuinely want to reformed or did he just do it to repay the Lion Guard, because they saved him even when he did not deserve it?
-Now, I do feel bad for Janja in this episode. I feel so bad that he's considered the villain of this episode. Damn it, I never wanted to side with Janja, but, in fairness, he was not doing anything like he is in most other episodes. 99% of the time, I can why the Lion Guard need to chase away the hyenas because Janja has an ulterior motive most times, but, in this situation, I just wanted to see him for a change. I'm not saying the Lion Guard shouldn't have felt bad that the baboons had ended up in the Outlands, but, I think they should've cut Janja some slack this time around. Plus, Kion was initially saying how the baboons are not in the Pride Lands and therefore, not their problem, anymore. But, suddenly, for real reason other than "Well it's our job to defend the Pride Lands", they decided they must save the baboons. In this situation, and this situation only, I think they were unfair to Janja. When does get to eat in his OWN TERRITORY!!!!
-Kion, "Stop right there, Janja! Step away from the baboons!" Really Kion! Could you not give him a break this time around? He didn't do anything wrong and wasn't taking down whole herds of animals to spite you. Those are the situations where he deserved to get his butt kicked, but, not here. I refuse to acknowledge him as the villain of this episode! He did not have an ulterior motive this time around, he was just hungry. Plus, you didn't even want to go into the Outlands, in the first place. I also don't get what the Lion Guard were intending to do to them as punishment for stealing food. If they didn't intend for them to be in the Outlands, why did Kion say, "At least we got 'em outta the Pride Lands," and what were they going to do with? This is the bit I can't get my head around because isn't that what they do with animals that don't follow the rules.
-To further prove my point, Kion says earlier on, "It's more than not fair, Beshte, it goes against the circle of life." And the line before where he tells Ma Tembo that the Lion Guard will make sure the food thief doesn't do anything again. So, if you guys what their plan was, please tell me because I don't get it. Were they just intending to attack them as punishment, but then, let them remain in the Pride Lands? Were they going to be watched or under slave labour for Simba and Nala? I don't know, because when Janja and Reirei are breaking rules they are chased out of the Pride Lands, justifiably so. I mean, even though the baboons are Pride Landers, they've been nothing, but trouble, and we have no proof that they would've changed if the Lion Guard hadn't come to their aid. Uroho didn't seem to care about the circle of life and had been antagonistic for nearly the whole episode.
-"They wouldn't be in the Outlands if it weren't for us. We're the ones who chased them there." No, Ono, you guys didn't chase them into the Outlands, you guys broke off to deal with some sable antelopes that fell in the river. The baboons, meanwhile, just ran away so they wouldn't have to own up to what they did and then chased themselves into the Outlands. So, no, it wasn't you guys' doing and you guys' wouldn't have had to take action if they hadn't been stealing food in the first place. The baboons brought this on themselves by putting themselves into a situation where the Pride Landers would be mad at them and then running away instead of actually apologising for their actions.
-I also don't know why Ono would be forgiving of them. "Ono, my friend, they humiliated you like an hour ago and literally tossed you around and stole food. Why would you so eager to forgive them? Don't you think you should be firm? You're the smart after all." I mean, I admire his level-headedness, but, the baboons didn't earn their rescue and needed to be punished for their wrongdoing. And if poor Ono hadn't suffered enough, to end the episode, the baboons just bribed him by throwing him an insect, before selfishly tossing him around again. And yet again, the Lion Guard do nothing. Uroho is still a massive jerk. Ono had just saved his life like 5 minutes ago and this is how he repays him!
-"And for that they deserved to get eaten?" Okay, I do get where Beshte is coming from. I didn't want to see the baboons get killed just because they were mean to everyone in the Pride Lands. I don't anyone should deserve to die, but, at the same time, they did have it coming to them by wandering into Janja's territory in the first place and stealing from them. If it was a situation like "Too Many Termites", it would be a different story, but, here the baboons went into the Outlands on their own and had been nothing except a nuisance within the Pride Lands! I mean, the Lion Guard should've definitely felt bad for them, but, I think they should've let Janja have this, on this occasion.
-"I can't believe you came all this way to save us. Now we feel bad..." Yeah right, Uroho, you knew stealing was wrong all along and you kept doing it. I have my doubts about whether he actually felt bad or if he was sucking up to the Lion Guard to be welcomed back into the Pride Lands. Also, the Lion Guard are very naïve for letting them scott-free with no real punishment except to give free food to the Pride Landers. I get that they're children and that the writers probably didn't want the younger viewers to dislike Kion and his friends in this episode by making them leave the baboons for dead, but, it feels unfair to how the Outlanders get punished for disrespecting the circle of life.
-Finally, I don't the song of this episode "Travelling Baboon Show" was just annoying. It's one of the few TLG songs I can't stand, especially since having watched this episode when it first aired, I found out at the end that the baboons were the main villains of the episodes and kept stealing and making everyone look foolish. Also, they humiliate Ono in front of everyone, during the song. I do think that the lyrics are just plain weak as well, and Uroho is just kind of making the performance a much bigger than it is. It really isn't as hyped up as he makes it out be, in my opinion. I don't listen to this song and I don't really want to revisit it any time soon. I'll give a 2.75/10 because it's the worst TLG song ever.
Overall
I never liked this episode. I think it's got storytelling that wasn't very interesting and it didn't have much happening in it. Also, as I said, we already this storyline twice and doesn't work here, on this occasion. I hate Uroho's troupe so much and I find them extremely unbearable. They're worse than Tiifu and Zuri and Hafifu and Majinuni, for me. I think they're more obnoxious with no redeeming qualities and I don't think they properly earned their redemption arc, unlike Tamaa and Hadithi. They were just annoying and they didn't feel worthy of forgiveness and I hate the way the Lion Guard just decided to treat them like they did nothing wrong and just let them off scott-free when they were clearly breaking the circle of life. I feel bad for Janja on this occasion because he hadn't done anything wrong and the baboons didn't deserve to live in the Pride Lands. I'm very confused about what the Lion Guard were planning to do to them before Janja got to them. The baboons had learned nothing about not stealing basically and continued to annoy Ono in the end. The song was very bad for a TLG song. I found the dialogue weak. The only saving grace was a few funny moments in the first act, but only in the first act and they cannot compensate for how bad this episode was, in my opinion. Overall, I think it had potential and could've been written better. I'll give a 2.5/10 and I don't want to watch it again. But it isn't my most hated episode.

• i love, love, love slice of life, or a mix of slice of life and fantasy. however, i have no interest in writing high fantasy or historical plots. within plots i really enjoy controlled drama, morally grey characters, and exploring subjects that might not always feel comfortable. please, let's drag our muses to hell and back. drama and angst inspires me like nothing else and helps me develop my character.
• romance is a must, to some extent. slow-burns are great if the plot calls for it, but i usually go with the flow and would like for there to be some kind of romantic undertone.
• i'm semi-literate and write in third person. if you give me one liners, i just won't respond. also, i roleplay on discord!
• pairings? i'm open to fxf, mxm, fxm, etc. if you're specifically looking for mxf, please be willing to play the m.

• i love, love, love slice of life, or a mix of slice of life and fantasy. however, i have no interest in writing high fantasy or historical plots. within plots i really enjoy controlled drama, morally grey characters, and exploring subjects that might not always feel comfortable. please, let's drag our muses to hell and back. drama and angst inspires me like nothing else and helps me develop my character.
• romance is a must, to some extent. slow-burns are great if the plot calls for it, but i usually go with the flow and would like for there to be some kind of romantic undertone.
• i'm semi-literate and write in third person. if you give me one liners, i just won't respond. also, i roleplay on discord!

I thought about it and couldnt remember a team that won 4 BO5 against LCK and LPL First and Second seeds?
Worlds Format had only 3 BO5 possible till recent years. if im correct new format also only gives you 3 BO5 possible.
If G2 somehow beats all of them, they prob would be the legendary team. I personally think its not possible not just for G2, for any team including GenG. Because the level of teams are really really close and generally wins between these teams are also mixed with luck factor (Even in the dominant G2 series, there were moments where the game could be completely different like if Draven was 1 pixel closer to Hans and only could Auto, we would have a completely different laning, just a simple example how the game is tied up to very small details).
Anyway, I remember DRX and T1 worlds run very clear since they were the latest ones, T1 beat LPL 4TH, 3TH and 1st seed.
DRX won against LPL third (or was IG 4th? Im not sure) and then against their local teams.
If G2 can make this miracle run, then this roster will be officially the best in the entire world, at least for this period. No one ever beat 4 top LPL/LCK teams in a BO5 and in a row and adding PSG makes it 5 BO5's, which would be something just amazing.

YOU DON'T KNOW JACK MOVIES

For almost a decade now I've created a fantasy world. This world has a creation myth, and has multiple ages similar to Tolkiens. For example first age, second and third. Each age has a large story with its own characters and events that effect the conflicts and stories in the age after it. If you were to write and possibly publish a book. Would you start with the creation and then the first age? Or start the first book in the second or third age? Tolkien wrote the Silmarillion. But Lord of the rings which takes place in the third age was really the main plot. Referencing past events and ages within it. Personally in my own world. The second age contains the full might of the races and kingdoms, with grand wars and epic characters. ( much like Tolkiens again ) But the third age is the real conflict. The climax to the entire story with more character development. Would you start in the middle, while referencing past events then later creating books to explain those events and characters? Or would that be to confusing on the reader?

I wasn't planning on watching Thrice Upon A Time. I had not liked the previous films and they seemed like a very inferior product compared to the original anime. However, the good reviews and opinions I saw about it encouraged me to do so. I did it with as open and tolerant a mind as possible, knowing that there was a good chance I wouldn't like the film. "What's the worst that could happen? That I don't like it and continue to prefer the original series? At least I'll be entertained for two and a half hours," I thought. What I did not expect at all is the deep feeling of disgust and repulsion that this film provoked in me, in a way that no other film has provoked in years.
I hated the movie from start to finish. I could spend hours talking about the boring action sequences, about its ugly, excessive CGI that ruins the already ugly mecha, about its disgusting hypersexualization of fucking 14-year-old girls, about how Misato's plans don't make sense, about how Last Kiss almost made me tear my ears off, or its plot full of Deus Ex Machinas with concepts conveniently taken by Hideaki Anno from the place that his last name suggests; but the real reason I'm writing this is because I feel like these movies spit on everything the excellent original work represents.
Not only because as adaptations they fail miserably, but also because they retroactively damage the original work (we'll talk about that later).
Before I begin to explain why the rebuilds are bad adaptations, I want to warn that I am going to do a relatively exhaustive review of the 4 films, so this rant is going to be very long, like staying up late on a winter night with chronic insomnia. That said, let's start to see the reasons:
WHAT IS NEON GENESIS EVANGELION?:
To understand why rebuilds fail as remakes, I must first ask you, dear reader: What does Neon Genesis Evangelion mean to you? (it should at least be familiar to you, unless you've spent your life under a bridge) What do you think about when you read that title, apart from Shinji fucking in front of a comatose Asuka? What comes to mind when you hear the most famous opening in anime history, apart from Shinji strangling the otter against Happy Thursday's throat? (in more ways than one). If your answer is: "It's a mecha anime for emos with a coomer protagonist", that's fine, I respect that; but please press the red "X" in the top right corner of your screen, you can now leave.
Now, I'm going to get serious and explain my definition: Evangelion is a work about the hedgehog's dilemma and the difficulties of forming emotional bonds that human beings have, as well as the consequences of trying to separate from them for fear of rejection. It is not a story about heroes. It's not a story about saving the world. In Evangelion there are neither heroes nor villains, but rather a group of emotionally broken characters trying to be happy in a world just as broken as them. The real enemy of Evangelion is not the angels. It is the lack of communication and empathy.

It is that same lack of communication and empathy that progressively causes everything to go to hell to conclude with a cathartic and bleak ending, but consistent with the themes of the work. It is therefore an existentialist work about human relationships disguised as a mecha anime. This, added to a unique visual style, daring direction, and mechas like never before seen on television, made Evangelion one of the most influential anime in all of history, as well as a true commercial success for Gainax Studio. Success that encouraged other studios to carry out projects such as Cowboy Bebop or Serial Experiment Lain, taking anime towards a new golden age.
Even today you can hear the echoes of that Third Impact of End of Evangelion in 1997. The list of works influenced by Evangelion both inside and outside of Japan is endless. Of course, it is not a perfect work, nor extensive in errors: its target audience is ambiguous, many of the biblical references are more for decoration than anything else, and several aspects of the ending(s) could have been explained better. However, many of these errors can be attributed to a lack of time and budget during the production of the original anime (which was quite chaotic and improvised); therefore, they are understandable and forgivable.
In summary, we can conclude that Evangelion is a dark, introspective, provocative and unique work (at least at its time). This is also combined with a unique visual identity and complex characters whose relationships intertwine and interconnect throughout the work. The sum of all these factors is what led Evangelion to be such a critically acclaimed work that it transcended its own genre and became an icon of popular culture. And this in turn constitutes the biggest mistake of rebuilds; because they commit the biggest sin that an adaptation can commit: denying everything that made the original work great.
ADAPTING WITHOUT A CLEAR PURPOSE:
One of the biggest problems with these remakes (as well as a clear example of what I'm saying) is their total narrative inconsistency. Let me explain: the first rebuilds movie (1.11) is a literal copy-paste of the first 6 chapters of the original anime, with practically the same scenes, dialogues and even music. This makes the film completely redundant and unnecessary (and makes one wonder why it exists); But in any case, the message is being conveyed that the purpose of these remakes is to adapt the original series as faithfully as possible to the cinema with a current animation style.
However, the second movie (2.22) is a... something. A pastiche of new and old things where the plot broadly follows that of the original anime, but with many things changed (of course, for the worse) and a different ending. All this compressing no less than 14 chapters of the original anime into two and a half hours. Here the message that one can infer is that it seeks to adapt the original story (very briefly) by changing and rearranging certain elements, now more in line with what an adaptation is.
However, then we get to 3.33 and... well, after a 14-year because reasons timeskip, we're now in a post-post-apocalyptic world (repetition intended) where ex-Nerv members fight against Nerv itself. Nerv in giant spaceships, there are mechas everywhere, Misato is a sociopath, and Shinji and Asuka still look exactly the same because "DAMN JEBA." Here we can infer that what is sought is to create a totally new story and take it in different directions than the original. The following movie (3.0+1.01) is the only one that is consistent with this purpose.
Whether all these narrative pirouettes were planned in advance or not (clearly not), we can see that there is a clear incongruity between what is intended to be done and what is finally done. All of this generates a strong narrative chaos where the elements and themes of the original anime are mixed with the new ones, creating a total inconsistency. Since also in 3.0+1.01 it is revealed (unfortunately to me) that everything is part of the same universe and this is not really a remake, the excuse of "they are different universes, they don't have to be the same" doesn't work either.
In fact, one thing that you will see me comment a lot throughout this article is the lack of narrative consistency of these remakes, especially in comparison to the original work.
A HEDGEHOG WITHOUT TICKS:
No character in Evangelion better embodies the central theme of the work than Shinji Ikari, its own protagonist. Shinji is not a hero: he is not brave. He is not a genius. He is not charismatic. He is not selfless. He doesn't want to save the world. His reason for piloting the Eva is to gain recognition and appreciation from others; especially from his father, whom he hates, but at the same time admires; He feels that she despises him, but he also wants (and needs) that she loves him. Shinji spends the entire series in the dilemma between escaping from what hurts him (classic avoidance behavior) or accepting it and moving on, even at the risk of being hurt again.
This theme is rock solid throughout the entire original series: from the first to the last chapter of the anime, and from minute one to the very end of End of Evangelion. Even the opening itself makes several visual references to Shinji's hedgehog dilemma. This can make Shinji an infuriating character for audiences accustomed to typical anime protagonists; but it's those same things that make Shinji such a unique and special character. He deconstructs and subverts the hero's journey. And it's not as if this hinders the plot: Shinji is not proactive, but he also does not spend the series crying, as many often claim.

And as you may already be imagining, the Shinji of the rebuilds does not have a hedgehog's dilemma. Or rather, he has it, but only during the first movie (copy-paste of the original anime) and part of the second. This is a problem, because it creates a strong narrative inconsistency (again) where it seems that two Shinjis exist at the same time or that this one is bipolar. As of 3.33, Shinji's entire character arc is based on trying to redeem himself for his past mistakes first by unleashing "Almost Third Impact" (what a stupid name) and subsequently preventing Kaworu's death while trying to right said mistake.
Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. The problem is that I have already seen the arc of the hero who fails to eventually rise up and succeed in 100 trillion works, while the hedgehog's dilemma in none more than in Evangelion (at least in my case). Which makes Shinji a much less interesting character. No character better reflects Anno's mental decline or better embodies all the problems of the current anime industry than this trash.
This character contributes absolutely nothing to the plot, he does not contribute at any time to its advancement, he lacks his own development or story, he does absolutely nothing relevant in the 3 films in which he appears, and he does not even have a defined personality. So much so, that all of her scenes could be eliminated or replaced by any other character and she would barely affect the plot, or not affect it at all.
The character is so frighteningly one-dimensional that she doesn't even show different emotions or moods during the three films in which she appears, always being perpetually happy and carefree even in tense situations for literally no reason. This leads to moments as surreal as her starting to sing and hum in scenes that are intended to be serious or dramatic (or so I think; perhaps what they wanted was to turn this into an unintentional comedy), again generating a gigantic narrative dissonance. The last third of 3.33 is the best example of this.

THE ANTI-UNIVERSE OF ANTI-NARRATIVE:
Of all the new concepts that Anno brings up at the last minute from the place named after his last name, none stands out more than the "anti-universe." Or, as I like to call it, the "anti-good writing." Basically because it perfectly represents all the problems of the rebuilds and their script. In the final stretch of 3.0+1.01 we have the last-minute revelation of a quantum plane of existence capable of turning imagined worlds into reality and changing this through Lilith, which cannot be understood by the human mind (wow, WHAT CONVENIENT!) and whose existence has never been mentioned or even hinted at in the entire franchise until CONCIDENTLY the aforementioned last third of the film.
In other words, a gigantic Deus Ex Machina created in an improvised way to avoid repeating End of Evangelion and forcing a happy ending where Shinji creates an ideal universe for each character (although that is questionable, as we will see later). And it is far from being the only one: the spear of Cassius, the Eva of Infinity, the key of Nebuchadnezzar, the Book of Life, and so on. None of these concepts are integrated into the plot in an organic and natural way, but rather they arise spontaneously at its convenience when it needs it. Except for the new "Super Berserker Mode" of the Evas, which is simply a power-up to sell figurines.
As I said before, if at least this were an alternate universe separate from the original anime, all this bombardment of concepts pulled out of the ass would be a little better justified. But the revelation that everything is a cycle and we are in the same universe as the original work only makes it even worse, generating countless inconsistencies about why they never mentioned this or never used that (what's the point of the seeds of life If you can create universes simply by imagining them?). Here we have a new concept with very strong repercussions completely launched, which is not even an explanation in itself, it does not answer anything and to make matters worse, the same films contradict each other several times. And speaking of timeskip, putting such a long one in the middle of the story is a first-time writing error. If you are writers, never do that: the bigger the time jump, the more things you will be forced to explain, since the less you do it, the more plot holes will form as a result.
And of course, here it explains little to nothing of what happened these 14 years. Like where Nerv got such a tremendous base from, if in 3.33 it seemed that together with Rei and Kaworu it was made up of four people. Or how they have gotten such an army of pseudo-Evas, especially when these are supposed to be extremely expensive (wow, and SEELE with all her unlimited resources was barely 9 in EoE). Or worse yet, how Kaji managed to stop Almost Third Impact (seriously, the name couldn't be stupider). None of these questions are answered at any time. Obviously because they can't do it.
Evangelion has always been characterized by leaving things up to the public's interpretation, but here I feel that they are vilely taking advantage of it so as not to have to give any kind of explanations. And in the case at hand, do not even pay attention to contradictions. Like Touji and Kensuke got on Unit 01 and that doesn't stop them from being 28 after the timeskip. Or that Mari appears to be 14 despite looking like an adult in Gendo's photos and flashbacks, plus the fact that Evas, by simple logic, could not exist back then.
The height of absurdity is when near the end of 3.0+1.01 the "unexpected" revelation occurs (actually we all saw it coming) that everything is a cycle and we are facing a reboot of the original timeline, of which only Kaworu seems to be conscious. He let them guess without giving them any clues how many times Kaworu mentioned or even hinted at such a thing in the original series. Needless to say, nothing is ever explained about it: Who created that cycle? (Adam? Lilith? The First Ancestral Race? Hideaki Anno's last name?) For what purpose? How does it work? How long does it last? Why is Kaworu the only one who remembers him? Do these remakes make sense?
THE DEATH OF A STYLE:
Fortress-cities folding in on themselves. Designs and constructions oscillating between the nineties, the utopian and the cyberpunk. Meshes of flesh and blood animated with the souls of the dead fighting with classical music in the background. A mysterious and ambiguous lore where aliens, technology and conspiracies mix with gnostic, cabalistic elements and the most esoteric aspects of Christianity (did the History Channel predict Evangelion?). Minimalist posters moving quickly between frames. Monochrome backgrounds flashing aggressively (bad luck if you were epileptic). So consistent with its themes that the A.T. fields themselves. They were an allegory of the hedgehog's dilemma (I'm not making this up, Kaworu himself says it in chapter 23).

The sum of all these factors is what allowed Evangelion to build an absolutely unique identity, the one that allowed people to say "hey, that's an Eva!". Starting in 3.33, all that is lost to disappear in 3.0+1.01 in favor of giant spaceships, mechanical mechas made of pure CGI, battles full of colored lights, multiverses and time loops. I'm not saying these elements are bad in and of themselves, but I've already seen a thousand mecha stories with these. For that, I start watching any of the versions of Gundam or Macross. I could also complain about the boring shots without audiovisual language and always using the same color palette, but to be fair, that is an endemic evil of current anime.
And like any bad remake, 3.0+1.01 can't help but pay homage to several scenes from the original work, completely failing to understand the point of said scenes. As an example, we have Ritsuko shooting Gendo for no reason other than to pay homage to End of Evangelion, ignoring that the context between both scenes is very different. Furthermore, here they never explain the relationship that exists between the two, so the scene makes no sense; especially for those who never saw the original series, who will also find mentions of facts that these films have never shown or bothered to explain.
Even worse is when they try to pay homage to the iconic battle between Asuka and the Eva Series. Not only because of the total absence of the graphic violence and choreography of the original, but because what makes that fight so remembered is its emotional component, since it is preceded by a narrative catharsis in which Asuka discovers that the Her mother's soul was always in Unit 02, in addition to being marked by the constant tension of knowing if she will be able to finish the fight before the Eva's energy supply runs out. Here the Evas never run out of energy (why do they need the power supply, then?), so there is no such tension.
In the original fight Asuka may not be shooting 1387945 Evas with a super cannon larger than her as she falls through an... interdimensional hole?; But there you feel every blow, you can appreciate every movement in detail, and the dramatic tension in crescendo only improves the result. If this were a shonen, the logical thing is that Asuka would win. After all, her character arc has been wrapped up in a climactic way. Unfortunately, this is Evangelion. When the Evas Series manage to cause a mortal wound with the pseudo-spear of Longinus and the energy counter reads zero, the outcome is already decided. What happens next is horrific (Asuka's enemies are cruel to her even after she is dead), and just as horrifying are Yūko Miyamura's screams and Miki Nagasawa's performance as Maya announcing that Asuka is dead. In the Rebuilds there are no performances anywhere near that level.
End of Evangelion will be as dark and uncomfortable to watch as you want, but it is a film where all those responsible put their souls into achieving the best possible result, both on a technical and artistic level.

She aimed us toward the Earth, we had dropped out of the RarDrive at the L1 point between the Earth and Moon. My god, the Earth. It was a covered in a thick grey cloud from pole to pole. What happened? It wasn't this bad two hundred years ago.
As I sat there bewildered at the state of my homeworld, the hatch opened and a handful of slightly-more-human-looking-than Terriphany turtle people dropped in. I was at once reminded of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
"Hi Dad, Nice to meet you." The first one said. He had a thick bundle of cables in his very human looking hand as he leaned over the seat I was in, and popped open the console to quickly plugged it in. "We're good Mom!"
"Standby..." Terriphany talked past Nyany and me to, I guess our son? While she pressed a few commands on her console. "Alright, Nyany, could you aim us where that navicom is suggesting, and then push that big red button for us."
She aimed the ship up from my now grey world, and over the horizon. Nyany looked at me, and I nodded. She hit the button and a Rainbow assaulted us.
"Owww Fuck!" Said the adult turtle-man standing behind me.
"Leonardo, Language!" His mother chided over the intercom. "Now, come help your old mother down into that ship. I want to explain myself to your father."
Nyany and I got out of our seats. When I was on my feet the need to slap myself in the face with both hands. Nope. Awake.
"Are you okay?" Nyany's tail said she was no edge. I could hardly blame her. That was a very wild few seconds, and now we were off again, but with a bunch of turtle-people we'd never met before calling me Dad. I'm on edge too.
"No... who would be okay right now? I'm pretty far from okay." I am honest. "But I think maybe, eventually I'll be okay. It's just... a lot to process. We almost died."
"Well... lets go see what Terriphany has to say." She took my hand and squeezed it, I squeezed back.
And we walked into the back of the ship where Terriphany, my three children with her, and two of my adult grandchildren and one of their spouses were waiting, along with a clutch of eggs that I assume contain my great grand children.
"First things first, we installed a cloak so that no one will be able to find us, at least hopefully. I put all the money I made from Disney paying me to having your children from stored DNA samples into stealth tech research. I took the pinnacle of our designs and destroyed all the research and the entire company a week before we came here to join you. This is your eldest son Leonardo, the second to hatch was Rembrandt, and your only Daughter Sofonisba hatched third. Her children with a human man, Frank, deceased, are Artemisia and Donatello. Artemisia has laid a clutch that she made with her mate, Chelon. Donatello has yet to find a mate, we all hope he can do so in whatever future we find ourselves in."
Everyone waved one at a time and when she was done speaking, I nearly lost my legs. Nyany helped me find a chair. "Get him some water, please."
Sofonisba brought a glass to me. She looks a lot like me, how can a turtle person look so much like me. What the fuck Disney-corp, Captain Tanner, whichever of them was responsible for this... I actually needed to thank. My surprise family had really pulled my ass out of the fire. I splash myself in the face with the glass of water more than I drink it, but I did swallow a little in the process.
"Okay, so that's a lot. I have questions."
Terriphany gestured for me to go ahead. And all the kids found places to sit down themselves too. Nyany stayed standing behind and beside me, her hand on my shoulder.
"So what now? How much did Disney pay you for this? Was there some sort of reality show associated with raising them too? Is Disney even still around? Why are they all named after Earth's renaissance artists?" They came tumbling out faster than they could answer.
"Disney paid Mom plenty." Rembrandt said.
"Turtin' along with Terriphany, yes." Sofonisba said. "It put us all through college. Phd's the lot of us."
"Disney named the first three of us, and we just..." Leonardo sorta trailed off.
"...carried on the tradition afterward, I guess." Sofonisba took responsibility for naming her own children in the same fashion."
Terriphany's tone took a dire note when she answered his only remaining unanswered question. "As for old Disney corp... well, they fully captured the galactic government when they went properly interspecies in their executive level. It's the Disney Way now, not the Milky Way. Humanity on Earth rebelled against Disney rule and after it was deemed the citizens had too much hope to be properly profitable for the company, the planet was bombarded from space. Most of humanity retreated violently from capitalism after the blanketing of earth in that grey fog."
Nyany was smarter than me, she asked a very good question, "So why did they try to take us alive, and not just blast us out of existence while we crawled around the solar system at near light speed?
"Oh, because the RarDrive is a bomb that will wipe out half the solar system in a single massive explosion if it's disengaged early. Old Disney was smart and vicious. This is all in your contract Captain Davis, did you not read any of it?"
"People from my time don't really fully read contracts. Just press accept or sign and assume its fine."
"That explains why the kids are such a surprise to you. I wasn't the only one you know..." She hook her head in disbelief. "The other reason to not explode you, is that you are the richest single person in the galaxy. Captain Tanner invested a small portion of your funds into buying a rather intelligent investment AI to manage your resources, and it smartly paid to upgrade itself. As a result, It the we left your AI and Disney Corp were engaged in galaxy wide commercial and financial warfare, as well as some actual warfare in terms of proxy wards. Half the galaxy thinks of you as a hero, an the other half a villain."
Nyany gave me a little shake and whispered in my ear. "Earlier when I said It was hundreds of years since my Zero-g training, I meant... from my point of view. I'm four hundred and twelve earth years old." I think she realized I hadn't properly read her bio before starting the show, but I had, it said she was twenty seven, which I now realize must have been her planet's years.
"So... now what?" I asked again.
Terriphany smiled in her turtle way, "Well If the rumors are true, then only the living Relic, Captain Davis, In other words, You, my dear baby-daddy, can take command of the AI and give it new instructions. Its current objective is to "maximize profit for Captain Davis" and the main hub will hopefully still be at the star system about two hundred light years away that we're headed to at a turtle's pace. Feel free to take some time to think about what you want to do with that information, but I'll tell you what I think you should do if you want."
"Hit me, Terri."
She smiled, and I could almost see that twenty four year old turtle girl in the hot tub again. God I was such as ass. "I think you should tell it make the star trek future actually happen."
"Yea, I think I will."
A pretty good day later, we smashed through the rainbow above a beautiful blue-green orb.

This might be a long shot, but here goes! I'm currently coming to the end of my Level 2 course, and hoping to start a Level 3 course next year. One thing that has been really helpful is a couple of DVDs I found, made by a company called 'Twinkle Fingers'. They've been really helpful to use as homework, alongside watching BSL Zone and attending BSL meet-ups. (In-person experience can't be beat, but watching things you can rewind and slow down has been really useful)
I've heard that Level 3 is quite a big step up, and as there will likely be a gap of months before I can start learning with a teacher again I'd love some more resources to keep my receptive skills up. As I've found Twinkle Fingers helpful, I looked and found out they had made a DVD for Level 3 beginners previously - but also that they were no longer making DVDs due to the costs and had sold out of all the older copies! My hopes were raised and dashed in the same moment, haha.
The DVD of theirs I'm looking for is 'Third Steps British Sign Language for Level Three Beginners'. It looks like no copies are currently for sale anywhere online, though if anyone has any ideas on anywhere else to check I'd definitely be all ears.
So my questions, in order of most to least likely of getting answers for are:

• Does anyone have any advice on good resources to use for the step up from Level 2 to Level 3?
• Has anyone also come across these DVDs and have recommendations for similar resources?
• Does anyone have a secret stash of Twinkle Fingers DVDs squirreled away anywhere?

Dark Souls 2 is usually treated as the bad apple, with many people saying say 'it's a good game but a bad Dark Souls game' and I have mixed feelings about this statement. When it was originally released, I agreed, but not for the usual arguments you heard. But I stopped playing halfway through due to bad hit detection, something that for me, is unacceptable in a soulslike. I was going to replay it after a patch or two. But my love of soulslike wasn’t as absolute back then, so never touched it until the re-release- the 'Scholar of the First Sin' Edition (SotFS), which included fixes hit boxes, better enemy placements, and all the bits of DLC included, and this version is so much better, and the version I will exclusively be reviewing.
Gameplay & Technical:
I hear a lot of people complaining about the very flow of the game, due to there being less monstrous boss fights, and many of the levels having much more enemies to fight, so it’s easy for them to surround you. I’m going to be the odd duck who disagrees with everyone and say I didn’t mind this at all. Every soulslike plays rarely deviates from the formula set by Dark Souls 1. Easy to semi difficult level design, with a difficult boss to cap that section off. Dark Souls 2 (and Lords of the Fallen 2023) are the only soulslike who seem to flip the difficulty around, creating easier boss fights but having levels with a much higher enemy density. While a lot of people dislike this change, I enjoy the change of pace as it is testing another skill set. Instead of testing my ability to dodge and block one big enemy, can I do this and remain spatially aware of everything else. Lords of the Fallen 2023 since changed their game to buff the bosses and remove many enemies, however Dark Souls 2 didn’t. They stuck to their guns meaning it was intentional. My guess is that the Devs knew they had tested their fans skills in Demon Souls and Dark Souls, so wanted this sequel to remain fresh and difficult so made the choice to go this route and I for one don’t mind that change occasionally. The DLC area’s then seem to return to the more standard formula.
Another boon of this gameplay is the subtle options it gives the player. You can beat the 4 huge boss souls to open the door to the castle... Or you can grind to a specific soul level if you would rather.
NG+ is one of the best in the genre, and From Software’s best by a mile. NG cycles have new enemy’s placements and items. And if you only want to beat your favourite bosses or get one item from NG+, then you can burn an effigy in the bonfire to upgrade that one specific area to NG+.. Meaning grinding for that boss door and ignoring bosses is very viable.
Story, Level Design, Art & Music:
The base games story here is inconsequential. It’s told in the usual drips and drabs, but with Dark Souls 1 being the first cycle, and Dark Souls 3 being the last, this being ‘just another one’ didn’t really hook me in the same way. The story implications of the ‘Three crowns’ DLC’s trilogy was much more interesting, and I really wanted this threat to continue more into the third game, but it wasn’t to be. The other thing that made a lot of sense story-wise was the health degradation system every time you hollowed to represent getting further and further from your humanity. Yes, it made the game harder, but I would have loved this change to have stayed in the third game as it works so well thematically.
The level design here is again a negative point to many people. It doesn’t loop back on itself- ever- in the base game, and it’s nonsensical in places. You can see a tower in the distance, walk to the tower, go to the top and there is an elevator which wasn’t visible from the outside that goes to a hidden sky castle. People didn’t like this, but it never really bothered me. Why can’t a fantast title have fantasy in its world? With the hindsight of playing Dark Souls 3, I wonder if this was intentional to show the world degrading in logic with every loop. A point driven home in the ringed city DLC of Dark Souls 3, when part of the Dark Souls 2 world can be seen scattered around. Again, the 3 crowns DLC’s return to the normal formula of shortcuts and logical places you can map out in your head.
My biggest complaint about this game is the art direction. A topic I haven’t heard any other person talking about. My biggest issue with this game, is the entire art direction just seems off to me. I will do my best to explain this, however I am struggling to word it, so if anyone gets what I’m trying to say and can word it better please let me know and I will amend my review.
Dark Souls 1 & 3's graphics are dark, grim, and dripping with atmosphere, in contrast Dark Souls 2 graphics are more vibrant, with a higher contrast and it loses the edge the other games in this series do so well, making the atmosphere less oppressive and the game feeling more like a more ‘typical’ fantasy game.
This isn’t strictly to do with the colour pallet, as Elden Ring also uses much brighter pallet, yet retains an art style in line with the rest of the series.
Conclusion:
Overall a lot of the common complains about Dark Souks 2 never bothered me and I found this an enjoyable game with some unique mechanics that fit the themes of the story perfectly The base game is enjoyable enough, however it’s the 3 pieces of DLC content that really tie this game together. These three DLC’s have all the base areas, boss fights and story in the game and I whole heartedly encourage you to play for this content. I personally, however, hate the visual design they chose, and am so happy they returned to the usual design in there later games.

So, me (19y/o F), and my best friend, 'E' (19y/o F), met during the first semester of school this year through our sorority. She was my big and I was her little, and we connected instantly and because close friends fast. We literally spent every waking moment together, and I even brought her home with me on some weekends from campus so she got to know my family and became a part of it quickly. Eventually I turned into the same for her family, and it even got to a point where people started asking if we were dating because we we're always together plus, I'm bi and 'E' is pan. Though we've kissed, (among other things) and did consider starting a romantic relationship, we both have a lot of issues when it comes to juggling life so we just decided to stay friends.
Anyways, so one time in November, Me, E, my sister, and my mom all went out to lunch near our campus. It was going great and we we're all having a good time, and the group arrives at the conversation of where E is from. Her family lives in Barbados, and she was explaining how she's had a few friends fly with her family from the states to her home when the school year ends, and they stay at their house for a week or so at the beginning of the summer.
I automatically jump at the opportunity and start trying to convince my mom to let me go. I mean, who wouldn't want to go on a vacation to a TROPICAL ISLAND with your BEST FRIENDS for an entire WEEK in a new country where I'm LEGAL DRINKING AGE??? It would literally be a DREAM come true.

I've only been on ONE trip with friends without at least one of my parents, and it was last summer before I moved to college in Charleston, SC (we live in GA). Me and 4 of my friends paid for an AirBnB out of pocket, and left the next day for a week. It was great! I didn't tell my mom where I was going until the night before, and she couldn't stop me because I had already paid for it and my friend was driving us. She argued a little but didn't say much else because she "trusted the group I was going with.". She literally only knew one person in the group who was a close friend of mine for 4 years and is a Marine.
*back to the story*
I try to sneakily start talking my mom into even considering the idea because I know she won't go for it at first; she's one of those helicopter moms that has to know every teensy-weensy detail of her kids' plans and daily lives, though since I moved out, she can't keep hovering. I don't even get through my first line of begging before she flat out looks at me and E and says. "Yeah, I think we can make that happen."
Me and my sister stare at her like she's grown another f*cking HEAD and E jumps up and down excitedly. I questioned her multiple times on this, saying like,
"Seriously? You're not messing with me right now?",
and, "You're sure? Like 100% you'll let me go? No strings attached if I can pay for it?".
She even goes so far as to PROMISE to PAY FOR IT IN FULL as a birthday present if I don't ask for anything else.
I literally was on the verge of tears because I was having a really rough semester and ready to be done with school already, and this gave me something to look forward to at the end of the year.
Over the next couple of months we continued planning this trip to a tee: we figured out the best dates to plan the flights with the cheapest options so my parents wouldn't have to pay a sh!tload of money (even though we could pay the amount just fine). We planned it around both my little sisters and E's little sisters graduation ceremonies so we could both attend them and fly down together after, with her dad accompanying us. We had a daily workout routine planned so she could get ready for summer golf and so I could get into shape for pre-season basketball. We had friends that we we're planning on meeting for parties at houses in the neighborhood and had a huge schedule-packed-day for E's birthday, which would be on the first couple days we landed on the island.
March hits and the school year ends, and E comes and stays with me for a week after we move out. E had been having some health problems and hadn't been in the best of moods but otherwise everything was pretty quiet other than a few altercations my siblings and I had with my mom before she went out of town. The week goes by quickly, then E's mom comes to pick her up from my house and we try and get E's mom and my mom to collaborate to figure out plane tickets because it's about time to book them, and my mom keeps changing the subject. Before we even have a chance to bring it up again E and her fam have to leave.
Flashforward to a about a week or so later, I've been fighting a bit with my mom and walking around the house on eggshells, but I decide to bring up the flight and ticket booking to my parents the day before mother's day. My mom immediately shoots down the idea and suggests that we talk about it another time, but I push back because it's already mid-May and we're supposed to leave May 27th.
I explain how 'if we don't talk about it now, it's not going to happen, and I want to have an adult conversation about it because I am indeed an adult and want to be treated like one and expect to be treated like one.'
She goes off on me and says:
"Fine, if you want to have an adult conversation then listen to what I'm saying. I don't want you going to Barbados. I don't like the fact that you'll have to fly back on your own. I thought that E's mom was gonna be with you there and back. E's little breakdown the other day makes me think that she needs some time away from you and you going to Barbados with her wouldn't help that. Plus, Delta doesn't fly there and your dad couldn't use his sky miles so the ticket is gonna be expensive. This is just a lot for your first trip and I don't think it's a good idea. Going to a third-world country your first time out of the US just isn't something I think you're ready for. Also have you seen the crime rates there?? It says here that robberies and assault are a huge thing there."
She then had my dad pull up articles and papers on the crime rates on the island, which is little to none.
Ironic because we live in the US and in the 15 different states our family has lived in, I've personally been through 2 school shootings, gone to school on countless days with bomb threats, had to stay home because of armed robberies in neighboring houses (in nice-ass neighborhoods too), and had copious amounts of friends and loved-ones die or get sick from alcohol and drug abuse and/or become a victim or witness to SA.
I tried to cut in multiple times during this rant to give my opinion and talk through this with my parents. My dad listened to a bit of it, but ultimately my mom has absolute say, and she wasn't having any of it. All of the reasoning my parents gave me are just weak excuses that I have a rational solution or failsafe for. The worst part is the fact that I'm not even surprised. I should've known this would happen.

I'm the oldest of 4 and adopted; I try to step up into that role and be helpful as often as I can, but I've missed out on so many core memories throughout high school and college because I feel so obligated to them. I even got a full-ride scholarship, so my parents don't have to pay as much for my college. I'm truly becoming a functioning adult, but I will admit I still depend on my parents for a lot of things. I will never take that for granted. I know my place and know that I am spoiled as hell, but I also know that I'm not being unreasonable for being angry at them for breaking their promise to me.

E and me got off the phone about an hour or so ago and she told me some news. Her mom offered to pay for half the ticket (and then some if necessary) to help get me out of the house, even if it's not the week of E's birthday. I start working this coming Monday, and hopefully if I can work as many hours as I can in the first few weeks, I can save up some money and go to Barbados with the help of E and her mom. She's transferring to another college, and I may be dropping out, so we're not going to be going to the same school anymore. We had kinda hoped that this trip could be our last hurrah before the dynamic duo got split up for awhile.
Sorry for such a long post, this just has so many different aspects to it and I need some outsider advice. I keep seeing these on SMOSH and figured people might have a different way of seeing this than me and my friends.

So, I was blindsided with a breakup by my ex at the start of March. Any issues were solvable but she decided to run and put it down to “losing herself”.
This breakup cut deep, to the point where my family were seriously worried for my health - but I’m not the type of person to hurt myself or do anything like that, especially over something like this.
At first, I begged, I pleaded, I tried to change her mind. All of it to no effect. She also sent lots of mixed signals, like continuing to tell me “I love you”, as well as crying and trying to kiss me on the lips multiple times when we met to exchange things back in March.
I went into no contact, failed twice - but third time I was lucky. I fell silent at the start of April after trying again to fix it - but she did show enough care to ring me on my birthday to wish me well.
I stayed in no contact and disappeared until now. And in the period of silence, she stalked my socials from her main Instagram account and then a burner. In the end, I blocked the burner as it made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Either way, it shows she cares in some capacity, regardless of whether we get back together.
Then, on Sunday just gone, I get a text close to midnight asking how I am and that she understands if I chose not to respond. I’m not one to ignore, and I know some will say I shouldn’t have given her what she wanted since she broke up with me and shattered my heart - but for me my revenge is forgiveness and kindness (without being taken advantage of).
She wanted to catch up and a swiftly set boundaries that I’m not here to be friends or have text catchups. She respected that, but I did open the door for a face-to-face meeting, which she said “I’d love that”.
Anyway. After two days of silence I reached out and asked to see her today and she did on her lunch break. She immediately noticed the physical changes and genuinely seemed taken back.
I’ve always looked sharp with my hair and beard, but I spiced it up with earrings, which she told me to always get during our relationship, and my tattoos (that aren’t shit thank god).
We caught up about life, smiling, laughing and joking. I even joked to her “do you want me to unblock your burner account now?” To which she got shy and we had a laugh about it as it is funny. It was a good ice breaker - because it broke past the nonchalant approach.
We avoided the breakup and going over old ground and I genuinely projected my positivity which isn’t a facade. It’s genuine. I’m in a much better place.
She did ask be questions like “how long did it take you to get over the sadness?” And I gave her an honest answer. She said she was in a similar headspace but her actions mentioned above to reconnect maybe tell a different story.
She also told me she misses me and made a few suggestive jokes about being friends (with a wink) so super playful - BUT she seems set on her decision and THAT’S FINE!
I made my boundaries clear again that I’ll never be her friend. She said “but what if I need you for something?” And I said “well, you made the decision to lose me, so no”.
I did make it known that she can message but be mindful of her journey that she’s on as well as mine. If she wants to hangout, set a date and time.
There was some touching of the hands, and we did hug a few times and I made it clear that it’s likely for the last time but that’s OKAY!
So the point of this post, people, is my revenge is forgiveness. My ex made a lot of mistakes, some really bad ones that left me cut up - both during and after the relationship. I made mistakes too no doubt.
But my revenge is forgiveness and that’s why I met up with my ex today. To show her I’m fine, I’m happy, I’m evolving, and I don’t hold hate in my heart. I believe if you loved someone, you can never entirely hate them. And that’s my revenge.
I don’t know fully why she was stalking, or her true intentions and keenness to meet after a long period of silence. If I never hear from her again, that’s fine, but she’ll never be forgotten.
I wish her all the best and all the happiness in the world. Am I sad I don’t have a front row seat? Yes. Am I sad I won’t be the man waiting at the end of the wedding isle and someone else will? Absolutely.
I was sad after leaving her today but it’s normal. But I don’t feel like it set me back - I feel stronger and the ball is only in her court.

Not necessarily suicidal thoughts, but thoughts that make me believe that I would be better off dead. I have been an outcast since 16. I’ve been mocked, made fun of, called sensitive for crying, cut off by an old friend group, and for the longest I’ve been looked down upon by my peers since I was 11. Due to this, having a narcissistic father, and MANY more reasons, I have a hard time believing that I meant to be here. The only person I have is my mother, who is on disability. If she dies then I have to die with her.
These are of course things that I have faced before I found the Lord. Now that I have found him, It is safe to say that I have indeed gotten worse. Of course I am not blaming the Lord for my issues and no I do not regret seeking him in the slightest. The problem is, I believe the enemy’s lies just as much as I believe God’s truths about me. As much as it sucks to say this, but he’s right. How i am unattractive, how nobody would want to befriend me, how i do not mean anything to anyone, and how I should just die.
I am not asking the Lord to just magically take my issues away. I have for almost two years simply just asked the lord to show me where the light is. I think he’s showed me the light already, but I’ve missed it. And as a result, my ship has sunken. Out of desperation, To fill in this hole that I have in my life, I have turned to other things like masturbation and pornography. I know they are of course wrong, but forgive me as again, I am just desperate for healing, or let alone just to feel something. Reading the word just seems like a boring chore to me now, and the fire that I had for God has been lost.
When I am at church or at my job, I’d see all this other people around my age (20m) just effortlessly talk to one another and enjoy each other’s company. And I pick myself apart because I have this belief that none of them would want to speak to me or how I don’t think I’m capable of socializing with them. My brain is automatically wired into thinking that. I have too much shame and insecurity built up from over the years to the point where I can’t even look at people in the eye.
The only thing I like about myself is how I like to give. I enjoy helping homeless people when given the chance. All I do now is wear shirts that promote mental health and perform acts of kindness for others. I’m in my third stint of therapy, and I am about to be on medication for the second time. Hi all, I’ve recently started working with Royal Mail as a postman - I’m on my third week now and have had no issues with customers apart from one man (repeatedly). Him and his neighbour both on several occasions have approached me in the street telling me to make sure I never give either of the other their mail as they do not get along.
The customer I’m talking about specifically has yelled at me numerous times for delivering leaflets, even after telling him he can opt out (he claims he has but there’s no record of that at the office so is clearly lying). He also yells at me for delivering letters as it gives him mental health issues, but I tell him I am legally obliged to deliver his mail.
Anyway, today he approached me in the street saying I must now give any mail addressed to his neighbour to him (even though the neighbour specifically said to never give it to him). I told him this and he chased me down the street giving me abuse and threats, getting into my personal space and following me into other peoples gardens.
What are my rights in this situation can I refuse to deliver to him because of his aggression? He tells me he doesn’t want mail delivered to him but now specifies he wants his neighbours delivering to him. Bizarre situation not sure how to go forward.

I'm gonna keep posting these until/unless someone stops me. Here's the names I would use for the 1980's Rivals + a bonus at the bottom. Across the board the 80's rivals have pretty good names, but most of them don't reflect on the characters of the girls. If I had been in charge of naming them, this is what I would come up with

Sumire Saitozaki

I like her name! In Japanese flower symbolism, violets (the Japanese word for which is sumire) represent sincerity and love, which works for a girl who's main defining characteristic is that she was in love with a boy. Saitozaki isn't a real name, but I constructed it from other names. Anyways, I would write it 寿 (su) meaning long life or longevity, 海 (umi) meaning ocean, 怜 (rei) meaning clever or affection, 佐 (sa) meaning to help or aide, 糸 (ito) meaning string, 崎 (zaki) meaning cape (the geographic feature, not the clothing item). 寿 meaning long life is meant to be ironic, 佐 is to reflect how she is the tutorial for the player and thereby helps them learn the game, and 糸 made me think of the red string of fate.

Kaguya Wakaizumi

Another good name! Sumire and Kaguya's are my favorite names of the 80's rivals. Both are real names, but Kaguya I combined kanji from different spellings. I'd write it 加 (ka) meaning to add or include, 紅 (gu) meaning red, 夜 (ya) meaning night, 若 (waka) meaning youth, 泉 (izumi) meaning spring or fountain. 加 was chosen because you help add her to the rainbow girls. It's a very dumb joke but I don't care.

Moeko Rakuyona

And here's where I started changing names again. Along with reflecting their personalities, I tried to reference their canon eliminations. Moeko became Renka Moekui, written 恋 (ren) meaning love, 火 (ka) meaning fire, 燃 (mo) meaning burn or ignite, 杭 (kui) meaning stake or pile. A pretty fiery name for our fiery tomboy. I also like that I flipped her english initials

Honami Hodoshima

Best girl of 80's mode, you can't change my mind. I renamed her Yumiko Tsubutaki: 読 (yo) meaning read or understand, 子 (ko) meaning girl or child, 潰 (tsubu) meaning crush or flatten, 滝 (taki) meaning rapids or waterfall. 読 is because she's a bookworm and 潰 is because she's canonically crushed by a bookcase

Sumiko Tachibana

Not my fave rival tbh, sporty girls aren't really my thing. But I came up with Sukone Dokujima, 健 (suko) meaning healthy or strong, 音 (ne) meaning sound, 毒 (doku) meaning poison, 島 (shima) meaning island

Ritsuko Chikanari

I do like Ritsuko though, she's so obnoxious, it's great. I decided to keep her first name because there were some great kanji that I could use to construct it, so she's Ritsuko Kozai. 璃 (ri) means jewel or crystal, 月 (tsuki) means moon, 子 (ko) means girl or child, 古 (ko) means old or ancient, 財 (zai) means money. 古財 is obviously meant to reflect her old money status, and 璃 just sounds fancy to mean- like she's a precious gemstone or something

Ai Doruyashi

I wanted to keep the pun, I really did, but no Japanese surnames I could find start with doru. If you haven't noticed before, aidoru is the english word idol, which is of course Ai's goal. I ended up constructing a brand new name from a few different names to make Ai Torurai: 愛 (ai) meaning love or affection, 伊 (i) being a third person pronoun (ie, him), 都 (to) meaning capital city, 丸 (maru) meaning round or circle, 電 (rai) meaning electricity. T's and d's sound similar so we get the near pun of aitoru

Teiko Nabatasai

Second best girl, you still can't change my mind. I named her Toshino Nadaka: 聡 (sato) meaning wise or quick learner, 乃 (no) being a second person pronoun (ie, you), 名 (na) meaning family name or reputation, 高 (taka) meaning high or excellent. Since her canon elimination is lowering her reputation, I wanted her name to reference being of high reputation or standing

Komako Funakoshi

For the resident yamato nadeshiko, I wanted a name that reflected her traditional attitude. I came up with Koyori Fukuwa: 心 (kokoro) meaning heart or spirit, 和 (wa) meaning peace or harmony, 福 (fuku) meaning good fortune and 和 (wa) again. The reason 和 is in both her names is that it's a character used to represent a very fundamental part of Japanese culture. I don't think I'm the right person to explain it as I only kinda understand it, but here's a website that talks about it. But it's very common to see 和 in words related to Japan, especially old or archaic words. With Komako/Koyori being an old fashioned girl, I thought it fit to have it in both names.

Chigusa Busujima

Busu is a word for ugly, and Chigusa was bullied for having an "ugly" name, according to dev. I wanted to keep that, and I also just like her first name, so I named her Chigusa Shikocha: 千 (chi) meaning one thousand, 草 (kusa) meaning grass or weed, 醜 (shiko) meaning ugly or unattractive, 茶 (cha) meaning tea or tea ceremony

Sonoko Sakanoe

I do like her name phonetically, but the spellings don't have much to do with her character. So, Satomi Sakagari: 悟 (sato) meaning to perceive or enlightenment, 実 (mi) meaning truth, 坂 (saka) meaning hill or incline, 狩 (kari) meaning hunt or chase. Obviously as a junior detective, she needs to be perceptive, so 悟, and she's trying to discover the truth, so 実. 狩 is because she's hunting Ryoba and 坂 is because... I dunno. It's a real name that contained 狩 and that's all I was looking for, with bonus points for keeping the alliteration. I guess you could argue it references the hill with the cherry tree?

Bonus Round: Ui Tunesu

Her name is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the english word witness- wiitonesu- because she's based on the very old Witness-chan character. Ui is a real name but Tunesu isn't. In fact, tu isn't a naturally occurring sound in Japanese. I would name her Umi Tsunemi: 宇 (u) meaning space or universe, 見 (mi) meaning to see or look at, 常 (tsune) meaning always or usual, 察 (mi) meaning intuition or perception. 見察, as a bonus, is the word for witness

That depends on how far you are into it. They will use any system necessary to oppress you which includes, criminal gangs, the media, police, all internet services and phone networks, your community and neighbours, churches and or spiritual institutions. This is global systematic abuse. Why do they target ordinary people and spend ridiculous amounts of time and money on harassing you and surveillance 24–7? Why would they do this to ordinary people? The system is looking for people they can use. Gang stalking or organised stalking is used to target an individual rob them of their identity and then sell that identity to third parties. This includes your data, all your intellectual properties or spiritual properties. Young women and men often have their houses bugged with cameras and listening devices so they can sell the footage on the dark web to people who have a fetish for spying on others.
If you are not particularly attractive this is done not for profit but simply psychological trauma and entrapment and also to build a file against you to share with the global system. It’s also used to test military means of espionage, we are essentially lab rats for the government, corporations, and the psychiatric community. Many people think the Illuminati or new world order is simply a conspiracy theory but this is not true there is a very real system in place and it will soon take over the world and all members of society with biotechnology, transhumanism and AI.
So initially you may have pissed of the wrong person or simply been chosen due to your your family I believe I was chosen for the solem reason of mental health history in my family and they are trying to make me crack. The way gang stalking occurs is a psychological attack on your subconscious mind subliminal messages via gaslighting are conveyed in order to either reward or punish your behaviour they copy everything you do and hold you accountable in every word you say in order to break your spirit and individualism. This isn’t just bullying and organised stalking they are harvesting your mind and spirit on a daily basis and playing a sadistic game with your life.
Gang Stalking can be sponsored by political parties, mafias or other organization that has a specific interest in you. You have the networks, locally, nationally and internationally. In the end what matters or what’s of concern is their objectives behind it. To exploit you in some way or form, disrupting you for political reasons, to rob or dispossess you. It varies, the complicated part of it is what they’ll do to you. From destroying your life to literally kill you.
About the psychological attack part of it, I suspected it as I noticed daily patterns of a sort of a persistent gaslighting, a program, where you are supposed to be mentally conditioned to accept the results of the scams and crimes of others. That includes repetitive tapping or noises adjusted to your behavioresponses, directed conversations or visual communications and timely, recurrent daily synchronicities as a way to imprint thoughts or ideas in you. A sort of a mental chamber or the creation of one through the input of different stimuli using the pressure of incessant repetition that ends in a disruptive although somewhat harmonic tune where you can remove or add stuff as you go. It’s a form of conditioning or forcing you to accept or to believe something that is not right, fair or true. It’s a process where they can play with your mind for years, tweaking it as it suits them. That’s why they never tell you anything, so they can always be in control of the narrative. That’s the key. From the profiling stage to multiple gaslighting events, traveling through repetitive and different forms of torture, analyzing your reactions on it all, ending in the perfect failure. Between other things, It’s a fucking attempt of a lobotomy, that’s what it is. These people are completely fucked up in their minds. This, well or perfectly done, is literal hell
