The other teenagers that stupidly filed for LLC/EIN have me anxious again

2024.05.16 02:44 psychoknight The other teenagers that stupidly filed for LLC/EIN have me anxious again

Mine was a lot longer ago. My friends and I initially tried to start a business in 2012, dissolved before a tax return was due with Tennessee in 2014 and I can search up the entity in Tennessee's system and see that it is dissolved. I have a vague memory of speaking with someone at the IRS and I think I mailed a letter disolcing it and I've never heard anything from them. The EIN number was in an email for the "business" which is long gone. Is there a way for me to find some documentation from the IRS to ease my anxiety or should I just drop it?

2024.05.16 02:41 Comfortable_Ad1371 Filed 2/8 still no transcript

Where’s my refund is still on “return received.” I haven’t received any letters or anything. I’ve tried calling the irs a few times but never manage to talk to a real person. Called my congress person and they just gave me the same irs number I’ve been calling. Will I ever get my refund? Filing with 2 dependents and solar credit.

2024.05.16 01:26 Dependent-Lawyer-648 Still waiting but progress

Filed 2/20, Accepted 2/21, received 971 letter-60 days on 4/1. Called state rep last week who contacted a tax advocate and I received a call back today from state reps office. The tax advocate said there was a hold on our refund but the tax advocate had no idea why so they’re escalated the issue (sent a referral I think) to get refund released minus what we owe from last year. State reps office said they’d keep my case open until 6/6 the date I should have my refund back by. My transcript never showed a hold on our refund and irs never gave me any other info besides wait. Not the end but any news is better then nothing.

2024.05.15 22:41 AristoDeity I won’t show up on any form of record check - please help

I know this is weird, but since I was young I haven’t shown up on any form of people finder sites or background checks. I don’t show up on google, even when typing in my instagram user name, or Facebook name. When I check my family, just to see if i can find myself through them, it doesn’t list me as related. I can find my mom, dad (who isn’t even alive anymore), all of my sisters and brothers, and relatives that have 0 online presence, I can even find relatives that are related to us by less than 1% DNA. All these are listed as “related people” yet I’m not. My mom has my sisters new husband listed under her relations, but not me. My sister shows up, and she’s only 3 years older than me, weirdly enough she doesn’t agree with working and doesn’t have a corporate or “on the books” job, but she shows up. People who are younger than me show, but I don’t.
I can’t figure it out for the life of me and it’s causing quite the headache, I thought I’d show up after becoming a more established adult, but that isn’t the case. I have credit cards, social medias, bank accounts, a social, a state ID and license. I have medical history too, so there’s no doubt in my mind that I HAVE to be in some sort of database, but why don’t I show up?
Absolutely any ideas, guesses or speculations are welcome. My brain is at a point where I can’t think of anything that seems like it could actually happen. I just don’t understand why I’m not listed as related to my family
EDITED TO CLARIFY: I have been working full time since I was 16, all jobs with my social security, that I’ve gotten state taxes from. I’ve invested in crypto and stocks, I have most social medias right now, my identity did get stolen when I was younger, and the IRS knew exactly where to find me despite the address being less than a week old at the time I received the letter letting me know. So I’m lost- I have just about the same presence as anyone else, the IRS knows me and where I live at all times, but a background check or people search won’t show that. Also I’m 23 for reference

2024.05.15 22:01 MindTender IRS Verify Online Not working

Well REALLY, this has to be beyond frustrating for US tax payers. I've been calling (800) 830-5084 a couple times a day all month and can't get through using the English or Spanish path. This is the first time in years I'm due a refund and suddenly I'm required to verify my identity before they send my refund. The IRS online verification is not working for me, and I've read for many others. IRS says I need to call in but no one is answering my calls. The IRS options for verifying are so very limited it's ridiculous. There has to be a better way to accommodate Tax payers who have received a 5071C letter, since the IRS are the ones making us call them. I'm prsently on hold calling to attempt to make an appointment at the local IRS office, they put me on hold!!!! Is this the new world we live in, just make it impossible for customers to contact you. No way to contact IRS management!!! Is this the way our younger generation provides customer service, really?

2024.05.15 21:56 Independent2727 New phone system, can’t get live person

Has anyone tried to get a hold of a live person at the IRS recently?
I used a method that was posted for previous years, and it worked a couple months ago. But they’ve changed the system and now I can’t get a method to get through.
Any hints?
I filed my taxes mid February, I got a letter on March 25 that said that I should receive my refund in 4 to 6 weeks. It’s been 7 1/2 weeks and still nothing. I’d love to know if/when it’s coming.
UPDATE: I found on another post the suggestion that I call to make an in person appointment, and the agent that answered (after 30 minutes on hold) was able to look it up and let me know my refund was “just sitting there” and she had to write up a referral to someone in order for them to look at it and move it forward. I should hear something back within 60 days. Good grief.

2024.05.15 21:53 firi331 What are the tax groups called who communicate with the IRS on the behalf of taxpayers?

A community resource helped me file my taxes. The woman informed me I could contact a tax group who could communicate with the IRS on my behalf including discussing about any penalty abatements.
I am searching for a group like this, but cannot remember what they are called and the resources is now closed.
I’m low-income, if that’s necessary information.

2024.05.15 21:37 CPA-more-like-CPOOA I'm a dumb idiot, and made an LLC and let it dissolve. I filed my 2022 taxes with the EIN number I acquired, but didn't do anything for 2023. Am I fucked?

Obvious throw away account FYI.
So I just saw someone's post on here about their band LLC that had to pay $15K in penalties.
And now I'm scared because I did something similar. First off, I AM a big dumb idiot who took advice without fully understanding what I needed to do and I take full responsibility for my actions. I do have an appointment with a proper CPA to go over things, but it's in a week and I'm scared so I'm here.
I started an LLC for a very small business I was operating that finally started to see a little bit of growth in 2022 (roughy $10K from TikTok and other things). I did so because I thought it would just help me out when tax time came around and I could start expensing things easier. I actually never received my Articles of Incorporation in the mail, so I wasn't able to open a bank account, which looking back is probably a good thing. I did however go through the process of getting an EIN for the business.
When I was doing my taxes in 2023 for the year of 2022 I did everything right, I went to a CPA and they filed everything for me and things were good. I however didn't see much of any growth after that so I dissolved the LLC by just not doing the annual report (I know, bad, I'm sorry).
Because of that I didn't think I would need to file taxes for 2023 with that EIN/LLC (I know, bad, I'm sorry). BUT I did still receive like $6K in royalties from TikTok still so I just filed them under my personal taxes with my regular job and paid in for what I owed.
What I'm worried now after learning about things I didn't know I had to consider, like if the IRS didn't see that EIN/LLC filing again, am I just racking up penalties for not filing? Again, I don't know what I'm doing, and from what I was reading it seems like I have three options but also I'm not sure if these are real options:
OPTION 1 Amend the 2022 filing - I think I saw someone post saying you can tell the IRS that business being dissolved when filing?
OPTION 2 Amend the 2023 filing - Instead of filing through my individual self, filing through that EIN and also telling the IRS it's no longer a business then?
OPTION 3 Contacting the IRS and just saying the business is dissolved
I also want to point out, when I login to my account through the IRS I don't see anything other than what I had paid on my personal taxes. I haven't received any letters either. Please be nice, I've been crying since 1am when I saw the initial post. Thank you <3

2024.05.15 21:31 Easymac888 IRS Customer Service was a joke- is it possible to get real help from them?

I was trying to get help with a fairly simple question today (my business submitted a 8821 form- we received a letter asking for a copy of existing power of attorney, but there is none, I wanted to confirm thY I just needed to reply stating so in writing).
I went through the phone tree and received a call back from a lady, who, when I explained my issue, told me that "more research was needed and she couldn't help me". I was told I could try calling back the same number or request a call back within 30 days and I 'may' get someone who could help, but maybe not. I asked if I could help with what was needed for the research, or if there was a specific line to call. She said no. She then told me she couldn't access my account. I asked if there were different levels of customer agent and she said no. I asked her why she specifically could not accessy account and she again repeated "more research is needed". We looped aroun nd a few more times, but her circular logic could not be cracked.
Obviously this lady (Dianna) was either lazy or inept, but are all the agents like this? Is it worth event trying to call back?
Either way the IRS should be ashamed of this level of service and this specific agent in particular.

2024.05.15 21:25 handpulled_noodles Enclosed Laser Engraver for Metal for ~$2k?

At my work we're trying to find a good laser engraver for metals and I'm hoping to get some good suggestions. I've been looking at the xtool S1 and the OMtech compact fiber lasers.
For the most part, we are trying to engrave part numbers onto black anodized/painted aluminum panels. These panels are flat and have dedicated boxes for where part numbers should go. We'll be engraving a couple dozen of these every week so we'll need easy repeatability (accurate & easy positioning). My boss is also concerned with safety as we have all sort of people walking around so something enclosed would be ideal. We're targeting ~$2000 with some room for more if really worthwhile.
My understanding is that we need an IR (1064nm) laser or a fiber laser for bare metals but diode lasers should work for painted metals. Does wattage really matter? Is a 2W IR laser good enough to engrave sharp clear lettering into metals? Will the 20W or 40W diode laser also work? We're not particularly concerned with speed as we don't have very high quantities.
I've been personally leaning towards the xtool S1. It's enclosed, has swappable laser heads, and seems pretty easy to work with. One of the concerns someone on our team had was its positioning system, is it easy to use when engraving into a small pre-drawn box (17 x 4 mm) on our panels? Would it be easier if we made some sort of a jig for positioning?
I also just started researching into fiber lasers and they look like the clear choice for engraving metal. Not sure how good the positioning systems are on those.

2024.05.15 21:07 Sea-Raisin3595 Dishonored Check or other form of payment code section 6657

I received CP14 notice for 2023 taxes. It has two penalties
  1. Failure to Pay (core 6651)
  2. Dishonored Check or other form of payment (6657)
I filed my taxes on time using turbo tax and put my account details for direct debit. I can see my account had enough funds at the time of the payment (Have my bank statement to prove this as well). I am not sure why the payment didn't go through and later I just went to id.me and paid everything using the same account.
They abated the failure to pay penalty over the phone but said can't abate the Dishonored Check over phone and need to send written letter.
I am not sure about the process for the letter and what address to use for it?
Can someone please help with the process if done in the past or know more about it? Also, should I pay the penalty and send the notice or wait for the outcome first? Any suggestions will be helpful.

2024.05.15 20:08 WahlCPA Revoking SCorp Election made this year

I have a client who made an SCorp election (from SMLLC) timely for this tax year and it was accepted by the IRS, they are having second thoughts and now want to revoke the election and go back to being a SMLLC, is this even possible? Form 8832 is making me think its not.
Edit:
I spoke with the IRS, they mentioned I could send a letter explaining the situation and also send them form 8832, they would then make a determination and let me know if they have accepted reverting back to an LLC. Since this was all done relatively quickly within the same tax year, it shouldn't be an issue and they may accept without consequences, however, there wasn't a guarantee. The issue now, is what to do about the state the LLC is registered in (NJ) will need to speak with them to understand the effects.
I am considering advising the client to stick with the Scorp and make it work.

2024.05.15 18:42 Goodnamesalreadytakn Just being optimistic

To all the people with 570 on their transcripts or received those awful 4464C letters, or CPO5 letters who haven’t had any success or help and have talked to completely clueless representative who keep saying 60day this and 60days that . I finally got a hold of someone who “kinda cares” she told me to call the automated questionable credit department 1 (855) 873-2100 to see if there’s anything that I needed to send in that can help get my refund approved and sent to me, turns out they need my last check stubs from 2023 and a my bank statements from 2023 because I’m also a 1099 worker it took me four days to get a hold of someone in that department but just continue to call back throughout the day also, but if you can’t get a hold of that department, you can still just upload your check stubs because 9 times out of 10. That’s probably the problem for most of us if you go to IRS.GOV/reply you can just upload things through there, she told me to make sure I write 2023 tax year all my paperwork and my SSN she said it would take 30/60 days for that paperwork to be reviewed and to upload everything all at once because if you upload it separately or days apart, it restarts the review , but I’ve seen people receive their refund just a few weeks after and also if you don’t have your last check stubs she said you can get a paper from your job with their letterhead showing how much you gross how much they took out in taxes apparently there are some discrepancies between the IRS and some jobs this year. Some W-2s are not matching up with your job is sending in. BEST🍀OF 🍀LUCK🧧 to everyone I know we all really need our funds I’m sending positive energy everyones way and codes 846 on those transcripts and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! your tax refund just deposit to everyone’s bank account 🤞🏾🤑💵💵💰

2024.05.15 17:00 hi_im_eros State of California FTB "Additional Documentation Required - Refund Pending"

Hey folks, my wife received a letter from the folks in California Franchise Tax Board about requiring additional information to validate her qualification for Earned Income Tax Credit.
But we live on the direct opposite side of the country and have never been to California. I tried looking up FTB to see if they were some type of scammers but it looks like a real state organization. So I called the number on the website but the Rep who took my call only told me that we need to submit documents. I kept asking, why is this being requested by the state of California when I live on the east coast and she just said "because you filed your taxes in 2023". She then sent me to another department but that phone rang and rang until the call ended.
This all feels very weird and I'm not sure why we aren't being contacted by the IRS if there is actually an issue. I filed for the both of us jointly using FreeTaxUSA and thought it went by smoothly. I don't get why my wife was sent a letter specifically either. I'm considering just heading out to H&R Block tomorrow to figure this out but I figured I'd ask the fine folks of this sub to see if there is anything I can do today.

2024.05.15 14:22 RojoSoundLabs LLC With no activity

Last year some friends and I created an llc for a band we had. Shortly after creating the llc we broke up, so the llc had no activity. I filed for dissolution of the llc and did all of that paperwork
Recently I got a letter from the state department of revenue (Wisconsin) that they were charging a non filing fere. I was able to talk with someone at the DoR and get it canceled, but it has me worried about federal issues.
Do I need to file something with/contact the IRS about this to avoid future penalties?

2024.05.15 08:35 zoesamantha 'As Of' Date Change - First Movement Since Late Feb - ?

I don't really want to repeat everything again, so if you want the most detail, go see my prior posts. But basically:
-Filed 1/2 & accepted 1/16 -After PATH lifted got 570 -Called around then, was told 45 day hold from date next to 570 - 2/26; 45 day hold was up 4/11, nothing happened -No change on transcripts since late February -Only had 570, no 971, no letter, no notifications, all other good codes including CTC and EIC -Refund is on account as negative balance and income correctly posted to SSA - 570 literally just seems to be freezing my refund release -Last week I called IRS again and had a 60 day referral (4442) put in for a phone call, was told 'still in review' but nothing more
Now, tonight, I check after midnight and my 'as of' has changed from 3/11 to 6/3. This is the first change I've seen since late February. I've read probably every single post in this Reddit over the last couple months, and I've generally seen that the 'as of' date generally doesn't mean a lot. BUT, this is my first change in over 75 days. There's two of you here that really seem to know what you're talking about, so can y'all maybe shed some insight, puh-lease? I'm assuming it means there's some slight movement in processing? I don't want to get overly excited but it's been a LONG time since I've seen ANY movement.
TIA! 🫶

2024.05.15 06:51 TheBeachLifeKing IRS Sent a check a week ahead of the explanation

I filed my taxed just under the deadline this year because I owed a considerable amount, about $17K.
A week ago Monday I received a check for about $5K from the IRS. I checked with my tax filer and double checked my records and could not find any reason I would receive a refund.
The US Treasury website suggested that I should void the check and send it back to them with an explanation as to why. This is exactly what I did.
The same day I mailed the check, I received a letter from the IRS explaining that it was refund due to an issue with the estimated taxes I paid last year. I called the IRS line and received an automated message that said they were too busy and to call back some other time.
What do I do now? Should I keep attempting to get through or can I expect another letter from the IRS?
