2024.05.14 19:30 MarritoOnaPalito Apartment complex claiming damages that aren’t there?

(FL) Moved out at the end of April, just now received a letter saying they're charging us like $900 for a new carpet because it had "dark black stains" all over it. (Keep in mind I waited 20 mins for someone from their office to show up to my scheduled final walk through where he said "everything looks great, you guys clearly weren't party animals. I'II let let the leasing office know" When I called to dispute the charges I told them I also have a video I took that final day and there are no "dark black stains" they had me send the video over yesterday but today I received an email with "photos of the damages" did not say anything in regards to the video I sent. The pictures they sent look obviously over saturated/edited.

2024.05.14 19:29 marguerite_yourcenar Prognosis for a metacarpal fracture in 5yr old cat

Hi! On Friday night my cat broke one of his metacarpal bones. At first he was putting weight on the limb, so we thought it was a sprain, but he worsened the next morning so we took him to the emergency vet. The xrays showed a displaced fracture. Since the surgery department was closed, the vet splinted him and gave me a follow up appointment.
When I met the surgeon, he seemed confident that cage rest + medication + splinting should be enough.
My question: I'd just like to have some additional opinions on the best treatment for my cat, and perhaps some reassurance. Do cats usually heal from such injuries?
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 19:28 blanketsandplants Anxiety regression

Hi! I’m looking for some advice / experiences and maybe some reassurance.
We’ve had our grey 1.5 years and his anxiety over that time gradually made really great improvements. He doesn’t have separation anxiety. His anxiety is mostly around loud noises, busy areas, some urban areas and children. With gradual desensitisation he improved and stopped freezing and was visibly more comfortable on walks (sniffing, happy bouncy walk). He also quickly started to get excited for his walks and loved going out.
However after a big stressor this year he has regressed. He had a big spinal bleed in Feb which he recovered quickly from and he was on crate rest for 1 month. He coped really well all things considered. A couple months after (and once he’d recovered) we visited family (that he’s met before) for a week which he found stressful but did settle and enjoyed my mums garden.
(He also was excited when he could get to going on walks again and even when he was paralysed would take me to the front door for walks.)
Since these events he’s been noticeably more anxious - jumpier on walks, freezing in places he’s not fond of but was more relaxed in before his accident. His dog walker (who comes rarely as I usually just walk him myself) came today and he completely refused to walk with her - he’s frozen on walks with her before but never this bad. Then when I’ve tried to take him he has also frozen more regularly in areas he has been fine in recently - generally just seeming more worried. I had even given her some chicken to give him while walking which he usually goes mad for but wasn’t bothered.
I’m guessing things will improve back to a baseline again with time but feel like I’m missing something or need to be doing more. His routine is fairly consistent too and his vet has found no sign of pain on check ups. He has a crate which is open and serves as his ‘den’.
Owners of anxious greys, what things helped yours? How did things change over time? Has medication helped?
Thank you!

2024.05.14 19:28 cashewcan Fix this one thing and you will solve so many of the problems of CK3...

CHARACTER AGENCY

It's ridiculous how passive and honestly "NPC" the other characters in the world are. For an installment in the series that wanted to dip deeper into the "Roleplay" side of things, it's absolutely crucial that CK3 find a way to make the other characters in the world feel like real, living, breathing, and independent people, and it currently falls flat on that.
Here are just some ways that you could improve character agency in the game:
The fact that almost none of these features exist in a meaningful way in the game is kind of ridiculous, for a game that tries so hard to be role-play centered and story-driven. Think about how much we are missing out on because of the lack of agency of characters in the world. Imagine if other characters in the world acted like us as the player character. Think of the story opportunities if features like the above were implemented to make for more independent AI characters.

2024.05.14 19:27 Ancient_Tart_7695 On SSI, received TPD discharge without consent, applied for FASFA and didn't know I couldn't take out another loan. Help.

Hello,
To preface I am on SSI not SSDI. I was told to contact a lawyer by somebody who told me this is a legal matter so I'd figure I'd start here first and pay for a lawyer if I really have to.
So I'm currently in school to get a Master's. I had applied for financial aid last year and I applied again this year not knowing that I couldn't get a new loan because I god TPD discharge. I didn't request the TPD it just happened on it's own. I'm at a cross roads because I'm unsure what to do as my school gave me a form for my doctor to determine whether I can participate in GSA or not. Until I get this form filled out my aid is on hold. My dilemma is that if he/she puts 'yes' would I lose my SSI? Would I have to report this to SSI or would it be something I mention when I'm up for review? If he puts I am disabled I won't get a loan. Now, I did call my loaner and request for a reinstatement as I never requested I had a discharge. They told me it automatically happened for me. Had I known I would have reinstated it sooner because they said they don't know when it will be reinstated so currently it's just in a request period and not reinstated yet.
I do also have a family member that is willing to pay for my tuition. not give me money personally, but pay my school the tuition which I understand is allowed as I've looked through this reddit for days and found somebody provided a link that it's allowed for people to pay your tuition and doesn't count as income: https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0500830520#:\~:text=Gifts%20used%20to%20pay%20tuition%2C%20fees%2C%20or%20other%20necessary%20educational%20expenses&text=Income%20%2D%20Gifts%20(or%20a%20portion,education%2C%20are%20excluded%20from%20income. If I'm understanding this correctly or not please let me know.
Additionally I did talk to someone who has told me taking out a loan when you had one discharged is illegal. My only goal here is to do the right thing while also keeping myself alive and not end up in prison because i'm not trying to get by on anybody. Like if I have to get the form filled out and my dr puts I can do GSA I'll tell SSA if I'm supposed. If I lose SSI I can apply to medicaid through my state so that is what I'll just have to do. I just don't want to do the wrong thing or get in trouble.
So I was wondering should I get this form filled out? I dont know what my doctor will put seeing as he isn't the one who initially helped me get on SSI. The person I spoke to doesnt think my doctor will put I can't do GSA because of a new medication that came out that has drastically improved people's lives. While it has improved my life it hasn't increasingly improved it. I'm still a very borderline case, but according to the person I spoke to she said my dr won't help anybody on this medication to get disability. should I simply call up my financial aid office and tell them I didn't know, I made a mistake and ask if they can cancel it and just see if my family member is still willing to pay? Any other advice that I didn't mention would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.14 19:26 Scarchxr I don't know if I'm getting surgery tomorrow

Yesterday I had another eye appointment (my like 5th in the month of may). Except this time I thought I was finally done with everything after following the prescription from my ER visit. I go to this appointment, pressures are back down to just barely out of normal range (but at least they match each other). And so I expected for the doctor to maybe just tell me to taper off the medicine or finish the dose or whatever.
When he talked about a follow up appointment I tell him I have a "reduction" surgery on Wednesday (I live in the south). And he asks if I can just move it. Who does that?! Obviously if the surgery is in 2 days I've already been preparing for it for a long time. I told him I don't know if we can move it since it's so soon (and I don't fucking want to do that) and he calls my surgeon!!
Also some of what he said felt a little like fear mongering, but maybe that's a reach. Even when my last doctor (who granted gave me a very bad option of medicine) wanted me to go to the er he wasn't talking about me losing receptors in my eyes. Hell I didn't even know how high my eye pressure was ER day until I was in his office.
So for the last 24 hours I've had no clue if I'm going to get surgery tomorrow morning. They moved me to a different office, and the new office's number sends you straight to voice-mail. I left a voice mail this morning but my pre op instructions didn't say to call them until after 3pm.
I'm just not sure how to cope with all this uncertainty. I keep fucking crying which isn't good for my eye pressure either (it's not that big of a deal but I'm feeling very dramatic). I have so much I need to get done before surgery (if I'm having it) but I can hardly get out of bed cause I feel miserable.
It's hard because this entire process feels like it keeps slipping out of my hands the moment my fingertips reach. And how hard is it to make a phone call? Damn.
Anyways thank you for coming to my Ted talk, fuck optometrists.

2024.05.14 19:26 Fickle-Lavishness-41 My experience with SM Global Package in Japan for Taemin

Hi everyone!
I wanted to give a detailed review of my experience with sm global package for taemin’s metamorph concert in tokyo at the nippon budokan. I am months delayed in posting this (thanks to grad school) but I initially wrote it out of post-concert depression prior to returning to the states back in March.
buying the global package, twin ver:
the package was announced sometime in december 2023 if im not mistaken and I stayed up until midnight (pst) on 1/22 to book a twin package for ‘course c’ which was 2N3D (sunday concert 3/10) for my friend and I. The packages that included all three nights (5D3N) of the show sold out the quickest, but there were still packages available for individual show days. As a tip to make things easier, make sure to have your friends’ passport info to input in advance so the booking goes easier if you are booking a twin package. If you are the one making the booking, make sure to have the global package app downloaded as they will send you notifications along the way about day of show schedule, merch preorder, etc. They ask that you relay this info to your partner when you purchase a twin package, as you are the primary reservation holder. You also cannot split the cost while booking, it must go on one card through paypal. When booking, you have the option to request extending your stay at the hotel through sm c&c, but since we were planning to go to Kyoto after the concert, we just checked out the day after the concert as planned. Also we didn’t have any ACE memberships, but if I remember correctly, you can enter that info to get an exclusive MD benefit.
merch preorder:
Prior to arriving in Japan, we got a notification at around 6pm pst on 2/28 (11 days prior to the show) with our exclusive merch preorder links which went live at midnight that same night. The prices were in yen and you pay using paypal. I had no problem getting the MD I wanted, however since there were limits on the amount of MD you could purchase (including the 2 different pins, which were 1 per order) I had to ask my friend if I could purchase an additional pin through his MD preorder link since there were 2 different pins in this specific concert MD. The day of the show (3/10) at around 10am, we picked up the MD we preordered with ease and pulled our concert seat tickets and received our global package exclusive gift (a mag safe wallet) and let the staff know which transports we would be taking (round trip bus or one way to/from the venue). I was a ljttle disappointed in the global package benefit MD as I had seen what the metamorph show in Korea had received (I think it was a handwritten letter from Taemin and a little lego figurine of him 🤧). Everything was smooth and efficient. Even after the concert, I was able to get into the MD line to purchase more, even though most of the MD was sold out.
checking in/out of the hotel & hotel review:
We stayed at the Hotel Monterey Hanzomon which was really close to the venue and across the street from the Hanzomon subway line, so it was very accessible by public transit. My friend and I both flew into Haneda and it took a little less than an hour to get to the hotel from the airport via public transit, but after a 12.5 hour long flight it was exhausting. When I asked the people at the airport if there was an airport limousine to the area, they said it wouldn’t take me close enough to the hotel and recommended I take the subway. We had met a few people in line for the MD pickup who said that we (allegedly) had a nicer hotel than those who did the NCT 127 global package for their Tokyo dome show (same weekend) but all in all, Hanzomon was an economy hotel with nothing to write home about. I will say the breakfast buffet included was really nice and I’m glad we didn’t skip out on it. When we checked in the day before the show, we just showed our passports and checked in like any other hotel. In the lobby there was a whiteboard with all of the concert info (opening times for md pickup, bus schedules, and concert schedule) displayed in english, korean, chinese, and japanese. I was a little bummed to find out that the concert (which took place in the middle of the afternoon) was only going to be an hour and a half maximum, even though NCT’s concert was almost 4 hours (!!!) in length.
day of show:
We had breakfast in the lobby around 8:30/9ish then after that we got to the sm desk at 9:45am to pick up our md and pick our tickets for the show (thanks to the tip from another fan on reddit, well worth getting there a little before the booth opened). I did notice the ACE membership MD benefits were nice, but neither me nor my friend have any fanclub memberships. It was relatively straightforward, they checked our passports and handed us a lanyard that acted as our bus pass and then one person per twin package picks the pair of tickets at random (in sets of 2 so you sit with your friend) and we got seats in section A3 (floor) which were great. They asked us if we wanted a seat on the bus ride round trip or one way and we originally said only one ride to the venue, but my friend decided to take the bus back too once we got to the venue so we notified the SM staff and they added us to the roster for the ride back easily. When we got to the venue (an hour and a half-ish before doors) they escorted us to the front and we were let in immediately. The efficiency was incredible. They didn’t check my bag prior to entering like how they would for a concert in the US so I didn’t bring a water bottle into the venue but thankfully they had vending machines inside and concessions on the top levels of the venue. We also went to a booth upstairs to pair our lightsticks for the show, since the Japanese Shinee Lightstick app is only available for Japanese phones, so we showed our ticket locations and they were able to calibrate. The show was short yet sweet, we did not see anyone ejected for taking photos/videos but we were too scared to risk it. If you are caught filming or taking photos they will make you delete the photos/videos and kick you out with no sign of return, but I think because it was the last day and we were in the middle of a crowd, it was a little easier to get away with. There was a sadness in the air because it was Taemin’s last concert as a soloist under SM, but overall the show was incredible. One thing of note though is Japanese audiences are very quiet, they tend to clap rather than scream in between songs and there were times where you could hear someone from the rafters sneeze and it would resonate, so be prepared for that cultural difference. We still screamed when it felt appropriate to do so and the fanchants were loud but it was definitely strange to be golf clapping in between songs, especially in comparison to shows in the US where fans are barking 💀. It was nice to be able to hear Taemin speak uninterrupted during the ments, without pick-me fans interjecting their screams. He spoke exclusively in Japanese and there was no translator so we were left to guess what he was saying. A K-fan next to us was live Papago-ing his ments to Korean and I would peek and read what the translation was. Also shout out to this lovely K-shawol because she let my friend borrow one of her lightsticks! Once the show ended, everyone queued up to leave the venue in an orderly fashion and we cleaned up any trash we saw and we went out to the MD booth to buy any last minute MDs before going to the bus. On the bus, they gave us each a (unthemed) bag with some strawberry cookies and a waterbottle and we had a fun time air-dropping photos and videos from the show with other (braver) global package attendees. Everyone we met was so lovely and everything about the global package went very smoothly and efficiently.
closing thoughts:
the day after the show, we took advantage of the free breakfast and checked out with ease. The SM C&C staff left the whiteboard in the lobby and left a nice note for us and we wrote our thank yous on there. Overall, the package cost was $1559 for 2 people ($779 ea, 2 twin beds for 2N3D) and even though it was pricey it was so worth the convenience of not having to try to buy tickets locally, which I heard sold out entirely during fan club presale. Please note that this cost did not include airfare or transit to/from the airport. The concert coincided with my spring break and Taemin is one of my ults, I just wrote a paper on him for grad school so it was a no brainer, I had to be there no matter what lol. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of theming (I heard the concerts in Korea come with themed rooms, themed snacks, etc) and the lack of transportation to and from the airport (which I heard is sometimes an option for shows in Korea and would have been a great benefit). But otherwise the hotel was clean and convenient (a little small, but that’s how it is normally in an economy hotel in Japan), breakfast was good, SM staff were helpful and nice, and we made some new Shawol friends in the meantime :)
overall, I would absolutely book with global package again, but I would definitely want to see a show in Korea to compare the benefits. It was an unforgettable experience to be apart of the pearl aqua ocean 💎
if you have any questions ask away! prior to booking this package, I took the advice of another fan under and it was really helpful so I wanted to offer any insight based off my experience.

2024.05.14 19:26 cttg121 Acute heart problems don't typically come and go

Hey all - thanks for being in the group. It has definitely helped at times over the past 2 years as I've been struggling.
39M for reference. Been to the ER once, primary doctor 3 times, and also did a CAC score and treadmill stress test in the past 17 months to get things checked out. No serious issues and last checkup my blood tests were quite good with almost everything in a normal range. So I did go the route of making sure there were no serious red flags.
I have read that acute heart problems (like a heart attack) don't typically come and go. For example - I had a major panic attack this morning (side note: I dont really know how to differentiate so I use panic and anxiety attack pretty interchangeably). My biggest fear is sudden heart related death. So as the panic attack starts to ramp up it becomes very difficult to deal with. Once I can start calming down some I keep telling myself that a heart attack typically isn't going to alleviate itself like that so its probably not a heart problem. This seems to help me get off the peak height of anxiety.
Does anybody else keep this in mind or tell themselves this to calm down?
The follow-up is that I can calm down some from the height of my anxiety but the lower level (but still quite elevated) anxiety lingers for quite some time. Does anyone have a routine that you could suggest? I try different box breathing, buteyko breathing, anxiety music, etc. But I really struggle getting back to a normal state for a long time after a panic attack hits. I've tried 2 therapists for 6+ months for anxiety issues. So far still struggling quite hard.

2024.05.14 19:24 lepidu My Experience: Job Search in Berlin [Detailed Post]

My Experience: Job Search in Berlin [Detailed Post]
https://preview.redd.it/r7jfwloeff0d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f595df7fdb7a6048505ec2ddcb29cee0b64bc47
Hi, I hope this is considered relevant to the sub. I wanted to post this on the berlin sub but my diagram keeps on getting removed. Reddit's been such a great resource for my job hunt and I'd like to give something back.

My background:

MSc in Social Science from a non-German university, 29 years old and 3 years of work experience, not counting work experience gained during uni and not counting internships. I'm an EU citizen, but not German. My German is pretty much fluent - I didn't grow up here, but my dad is a native German speaker. Basically, I speak it without an accent and understand everything with no issue at all but am not very eloquent and can't express myself as well as I can in English. I make minor grammatical errors here and there.

Duration:

The whole process took 2 months; I started looking for a job around mid March and signed my contract yesterday.

Job searching process:

I went through LinkedIn, Xing, Indeed and Stepstone every day. I applied for English as well as German-speaking jobs, based in either Berlin or the EU (remote). I applied both for jobs in industry as well as ÖD, although ÖD was not my preference. I only applied for permanent and full-time positions. I didn't focus on a specific type of job or field, but more on my own skills, experience and interest. Broadly speaking most jobs I applied for were in analytics (but not data analyst jobs).

Applications:

I think I had a good rate of interest taken in my applications. For 1 in 3 jobs I applied for, I was invited to a first interview. The jobs that I was rejected for outright were mostly those that I was underqualified/not experienced enough for and was not expecting to get anyway. I tailored my CV to each specific job, highlighting previous experiences and responsibilities that seemed the most relevant and removing things that didn't seem important at all. I also wrote a cover letter for almost every job, provided they did not explicitly specify that they didn't want one, and even if the cover letter was only an optional part of the application. I didn't get ghosted too much, so that was nice, only about 1 in 4 times.

1st Round:

The first round interviews were a breeze, there isn't much to say here. I received a rejection for 2 out of 13 first interviews. One was because I didn't have experience working with a certain program (was listed as optional on the ad though), the other was a really difficult first round that was more a second round interview than anything else in the sense that it was really technical and I was interviewed by a panel instead of just a person from HR. Still a positive experience, though. The withdrawals were due to: coincided with received offer, salary too low, or just not into the job after all.

2nd Round:

4 out of 6 rejected me after the second round, tbh these rejections kind of stung a bit. One of the unexplained rejections I got was actually after an interview that went extremely well - I really left thinking that I was their unicorn and that the job was mine lol. I still wonder who ended up getting that job.
But generally speaking, the main issue I encountered was how hard it was to interview in German (I already described my language skills above). The first rounds were always easy, but the second rounds were tougher. Coming up with good answers to situation-based questions spontaneously or just BS'ing in German was quite hard. There was still no interview that I completely bombed, luckily enough.
2 out of the 4 companies that rejected me offered feedback calls which was really nice. Just 10 minute phone calls, no video, where they explained to me why they made their decision. The overall feedback I got was pretty vague but boiled down to some of the responses I gave not being detailed enough. I appreciate companies that take the time to do this.

3rd Round:

I only had 2 of these, but my impression is that if you get to the final round (I didn't encounter a company or job that required more than 3 rounds of interviews) your chances are already pretty good.

Final offer and Salary €:

I'm not in love with the job I ended up accepting, my main issue being that the work sounds boring, very bureaucratic and also meaningless. At the same time, everyone I met throughout the process was very nice, they have an office here but they're cool about WFH and additionally I'll be able to work remotely from abroad for 6 weeks a year. So I'm excited to start and overall happy with the opportunity. The salary they offered me is 60k, which I think is good but is probably not according to Reddit's standards. But honestly, as helpful as reading through job-related posts here was, it was also helpful to touch grass, speak with real people that I know and understand that not everyone can be earning 70k+ in their mid twenties, even people in tech. The jobs I was able to get interviews for were all mid-level and had allocated budgets in the range of high 40's to low 60's, which I thought was really broad, but maybe this info could still be helpful to other people with a similar background. I didn't negotiate because the offered salary was already higher than what I was expecting, and also because I needed a job, and also because I genuinely think it's a good salary and is definitely more than enough for me. I've put it into various brutto-netto calculators and expect that I'll easily be able to save almost ~1.5k a month.

Conclusions:

I think I underestimated how how hard it was going to be. My main problem was that there were just not that many jobs to apply for in the first place. I browsed through a lot of job-related subs and noticed how many applications other people are able to churn out, but that was simply not my experience. It was the worst feeling ever to wake up, spend hours browsing various job platforms but have to end the day without sending off an application. My previous job here in Berlin was a freelancing gig that ended unexpectedly, so I didn't qualify for any assistance from the government and was living purely off of my savings, which was very stressful. On the upside, being unemployed meant that I was at least really flexible when it came to making appointments for interviews.
I have a lot of friends who live in more rural areas (Germany and EU countries generally), and I have the impression that they have an easier time getting hired. None of them have had a job hunt that lasted more than a month. I was always under the impression that people move to bigger cities because finding a job is supposed to be easier there, but I guess it really depends on your line of work.
Anyway, I ultimately I think I got lucky! Finding a job really is a numbers game.

Hello fellow musicians and Ajikan fans!
I have been a fan of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION for roughly 16 years and as a guitarist was greatly inspired by the band's alt rock sound.
After a few years of research I have written a series of "sound like" articles for ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION. The purpose of these articles is to provide context on how the band create their signature sound, and to support beginning musicians or tribute acts who may wish to replicate it.
At the end of each article I have drafted a Budget Rig, which you could use for both at home and in a live environment. I have also provided some general amp settings to tweak and try, which are based on the band's live sound and be can used to help replicate their tones.
This is a 3-part series and if you enjoy this article I would recommend checking out the other articles:
Sound Like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Pt.1: Masafumi Gotoh (2024 version) : AsianKungFuGeneration (reddit.com)
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION Sound Like Part 3: Yamada : AsianKungFuGeneration (reddit.com)
To help you recognise the individual guitar tones, Gotch's guitar parts are normally panned to the left earphone and Kita's are panned to the right earphone on the band's albums. (On 2016's Sol-Fa, Hometown and some of the Planet Folks singles the panning was swapped, with Gotch instead in the right ear and Kita on the left)

Kensuke Kita

Kita during the Hometown UK/FR tour 2019
In this article we are focusing on lead guitarist and backing vocalist Kensuke Kita. Responsible for many of the band's iconic melodies and riffs, Kita's rig setup is a classic rock setup: A Gibson Les Paul into a Marshall-esque amp.
Inspired by 90's alt rock and Brit Pop groups such as Supergrass, Blur, Manic Street Preachers and Radiohead, Kita has constantly evolved as a musician and became more involved with the song writing process from Fanclub onwards. (Kita has writing credits on Blue Train)
This evolution can be seen clearly when you compare the punk rock style of Houkai Amplifier with the more experimental, pop inspired Planet Folks. While the earlier records reflected a focus on riffs and octave chord melodies, Kita now prefers playing major and minor third chords, triad chords and arpeggios, reflecting his "melody-maker" role in the band.
A triad chord is a chord made of 3 separate notes. They are commonly played on the higher strings and Kita uses them a lot, in tracks such as Aru Machi no Gunjou, Sayonara Lost Generation and Gekkou. Major and Minor third chords are sometimes referred to as Dyads.
During live performances Kita will experiment with ambient tones, but remains the lead guitar sound, with Gotch acting as a anchor for the overall band.

GUITARS

Kita's primary guitar is a Gibson Les Paul. You want to capture the power and sustain of the humbucker pickups, so single coils will generally not work. Furthermore, I would not recommend active pickups, such as EMG pickups, and to avoid anything that creates too much gain. Remember, Kita sound is rooted in a traditional rock setup.
His most recognisable and iconic guitar is his Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue. Kita bought the 59's reissue in 2004 and has been a mainstay ever since, using it on every Ajikan album from Fanclub onwards.
Kita's Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue
Kita's backup guitar is a Historic Collection 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue, which is also used for Eb/D# standard tuning for songs such as After Dark, Yoru No Call and Empathy. Kita's other standout guitar is his Gibson ES-335, which is used occasionally for songs with a capo.
A good example of this would be the live performance of Natsu no Hi, Zanzou from the 10th Anniversary shows and live performances of Juuni Shinhou no Yuukei and Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat.
Kita has also experimented with Fender Telecasters, Jazzmasters and Stratocasters on the band's albums, although neither have been seen on stage so far. In a interview with Guitar Magazine, Kita confirmed that he used a Fender Jazzmaster on Empathy.

If you are looking to capture Kita's guitar sound, a Les Paul style guitar with vintage sounding pickups would be the best place to start.
Between 2002-2007, Kita armed his Les Pauls with Gibson Burstbucker 2 in the bridge position and the Burstbucker 1 in the neck position. Since 2007, Kita has used Custombuckers in both positions. Like Gotch, Kita uses Tortex Flex picks and are most likely .73mm or .88mm variants

AMPLIFIERS

In the band's early years of success, Kita used a Marshall JCM 900-4100 head with a Marshall 1960A cabinet. In late 2005, Kita replaced the Marshall amp with the Bogner Ecstasy 101b and Bogner 4x12 Cabinet, which he has used ever since as his main live amplifier.
Kita's JCM900 amp, used during the early 2000's and Sol-Fa 2004 tour
The Bogner has 3 channel settings, with the "green" channel based on traditional Vox amp, the "blue" channel based on a Marshall JCM800 & Marshall Plexi and the "Red" channel as a higher drive channel. The Bogner also has a boost feature that Kita uses for solos.
Both the JCM900 and Ecstasy amps are based on vintage Marshall sounds, whereas the modern Marshall amps have a darker, more compressed sound.
Between 2000-2011 Kita would only use the Marshall or Bogner stack for live performances and simply switch between the amp channels. In 2012, Kita introduced the Shinos Luck 6V combo to his live setup.
The Shinos amps were set up by a former VOX Chief engineer and in general has a blend of Fender and Vox amps sound wise. They have also been compared to Matchless amps, which Kita has used occasionally on international tours.
Kita's Bogner Ecstasy 101b and Shinos Luck V6
Kita has experimented with more amplifiers in the studio and has been known to use JCM800's, VOX and Matchless amps on albums, but for the purpose of this article we will keep the focus on matching his vintage Marshall & Bogner tone.
Kita's clean sound can be heard on Angou No Waltz, Mustang and Yuugure no Aka, while his distorted sound can be heard on Standard, Re:Re: and Kouya wo Aruke.
Kita used 4x12 Greenback speakers in his Marshall cabinet (this was 2004 sound & since 2005 he has likely use Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. The Shino is likely set up with a Celestion Classic Lead 80 speaker.)

PEDALS

Alongside the amp pairing, Kita uses a wide variety of pedals that has only grown in recent years. Previously, Kita stuck to a small collection of pedals which included a delay pedal and a preamp pedal.
Kita's 2004 pedalboard, used during the Sol-Fa tour
This collection has since rapidly grown, but has generally included a compressor, phaser, wah and a delay.
During the Eizo Sakushin Shu Vol. 6 performance, where he used a Boss DD-20 Giga Delay, an MXR M-132 Super Comp, Boss PH-2 Super Phaser, a Guyatone WR3 Wah Rocker and VoxV847 Wah pedal. Kita also used a BOSS TR-2 Tremolo at this time.
Kita's 2009 Pedalboard, which was used during the Eizo Sakushin Shu Vol. 6 performance
The Super Comp is used as a boost for lead melodies and solos, and the Super Phaser can be heard in performances of Mustang and Shinkokyuu. The Giga Delay can be heard in tracks such as Night Diving, Re:Re: and Mugen Glider, as well as the band's ambient jams. The Wah Rocker can be heard in Kugenuma Surf & Enoshima Escar
Since 2010 Kita's pedal board has gradually evolved to include more delay & modulation effects. (Such as the Boss Harmonist and BOSS MD-200 Modulation) He has also used fuzz and distortion pedals from time to time. For example, he has added the BOSS Tone Bender and Earthquaker Transmisser for ambient noises between tracks.
In recent years, Kita has also used octave pedals for lead parts (which recreates what the guitarist plays but at a higher or lower pitch), such as Blood Circulator, Boys & Girls and Clock Work. The Electro Harmonix POG2, which can be seen on his current rig below, is used for the intro of Kakato de Ai o Uchinarase.
Kita's current 2022 Pedalboard: (1) FREE THE TONE/JB-41S (Junction Box) (2) Jim Dunlop/535Q Crybaby Multi-Wah (Wow Pedal) (3) Custom Audio Japan/RS 616 (Programmable Switcher) (4)MXSuper Comp (Compressor) (5) Electro-Harmonix/POG2 (Octave) (6) BOSS/TB-2W (Fuzz) (7)EarthQuaker Devices/Transmisser (Modulation/Reverb) (8) strymon/ZELZAH (multi-phaser) (9) BOSS/MD-200 (multi-modulation) (10)(11) BOSS/DD-20 (multi-delay) (12) BOSS/FRV-1 (reverb) (13) Electro-Harmonix/FREEZE (sustainer)(14) BOSS/FS-5U (foot switch) (15) BOSS/TU-2s (tuner) (16) RJM/Amp Gizmo (amplifier channel switcher) (17) FIREGLOW/PPS-05 (power supply) (18) Vital Audio/VA-08 Mk-II (Power Supply)
To help manage his massive pedalboard on stage, Kita has been using a Custom Audio Switcher to control his pedals, which also allows him to create "loops" of saved settings for each song. I've included a list of his pedals from the current board on the picture below.
The guitar runs into the Junction box (top right) and wah pedal before going into the switcher. Kita can control the Comp and reverb from the switcher, along with the amp settings.
The guitar line then runs from the Dyna Comp through the rest of the pedals, which are controlled in separate loops by the switcher, before running into an amp switcher for the Bogner and Shinos. You can see these loops below:
Loop 1: Dyna Comp Loop 2: Dyna Comp, POG 2, Tone Bender, Transmisser Loop 3: Dyna Comp, Zelzah Loop 4: Dyna Comp, BOSS MD-200 (using the tremolo effect) Loop 5: Dyna Comp, 2x BOSS DD-20s Loop 6: Dyna Comp, 63' Fender Reverb
Kita has a few additional pedals on the board, such as the Electro Harmonix Freeze, which can hold a note for a sustained amount of time and a separate BOSS footswitch to tap in a count for his delay sound.
While this may seem complicated (and it is!) bear in mind that many of the pedals are to recreate certain sounds from the band's 10 albums, or to allow Kita to experiment during live performances.
You do not need to build a pedalboard this big to sound like Kita.
Instead, I would focus on Kita's main pedals, which include the MXR Super Comp, his two Boss DD-20 Giga Delay pedals, the Dunlop535Q Crybaby Multi-Wah, the Strymon ZELZAH (phase) and BOSS MD-200. (phase/auto-wah/tremolo)

Sound Like Kita ...On a Budget

Kita, Quarter Century tour, 2022
To buy Kita's current rig would cost thousands of pounds (the 59' Les Paul alone could be worth £5,000) so much like the Gotch's post we have a few more affordable options that could get you close. The idea is to create a rig that can be used at home or in small venues to perform live.
Also bear in mind that information provided are based on Kita's Live setup, which is aimed at finding a medium between all of the sounds formed on the albums. Please also note that these are personal suggestions as a fan and if you find that works better for you, then great!
The main areas to consider are:
  • A 50's inspired Les Paul
  • A Boutique Marshall style amp
  • A compressor pedal
  • A Delay pedal and Multi-effect pedals
GUITAR
In terms of guitar options there are plenty of Les Paul copies, but for look and sound Epiphone is a no-brainer. The Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard is the newer, more expensive option but is based on the 59' Les Paul model, much like Kita's main guitar. You can buy one for around £749.
Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard
The more affordable option is the Epiphone Les Paul Standard '50s, which is also a solid pick and goes for around £500.
AMPLIFIER
In terms of affordable amps, Bogner have recently released the Ecstasy Mini 30W Head which costs around £349. You would need a speaker to plug the head into, this solid-state amp would get you close to Kita's sound and could be used for gigging with a big enough speaker.
Bogner Ecstasy Mini 30W Head
You could also try out the Marshall MG50 and Marshall Origin amps as affordable Marshall amps with a classic sound, closer to the JCM900/Bogner style.
Another approach you could take would be to use the Bogner Ecstasy pedals, which are pedals designed to emulate the Bogner Ecstasy amps. (Please bear in mind that you would need to tweak the settings more to work with the amp you use)
The BOSS Katana series and Blackstar amps (which have a dial to set a more British sound) have Marshall-esque settings and could also work, but would require more tweaking.
PEDALS
There are a wide variety of pedals to choose from, but to keep the pedal suggestions simple but versatile. Because of its importance to Kita's sound, I would recommend the MXR Super Comp.
MXR Super Comp
A great example of how this would sound can be on tako wasa YouTube channel, who demonstrated the pedal on this live stream. (tako also has a solid pedal board that is worth taking inspiration from!) An alternative approach would be to buy a Booster pedal to create the same effect, such as the Xotic EP-3 Boost
A delay pedal is also must for a sound like rig (Especially those keen to play the Re:Re: 2016 intro) and so the recommendation would be a Boss DD Delay pedals. The DD-6 or DD-8 are more affordable options that can definitely do the job, while the DD-200 gives you a more versatile option and the ability to save pre-sets for different tracks.
Boss DD-8
Cheaper alternatives that you could also consider are the Tone City Tape Machine and the TC Electronic Flashback 2 Mini, which are both good options for the price.
Another pedal for Kita's sound to consider would be a Wah pedal. As the Dunlop535Q Crybaby is quite a steep price for casual players, so I would recommend the Vox 845 Wah Wah Pedal. At £69 its considerably cheaper than the Dunlop535Q and should get close to Kita's original Wah sound.
Finally, we are going to focus on the modulation sounds for Kita, and ultimately this is down to preference and what songs you would like to emulate.
BOSS MD-200
If you wanted to have a mix of sounds, the BOSS MD-200, which Kita uses, covers many of the sounds he uses, including the phaser, auto-Wah and tremolo sounds.
For more specific roles, the BOSS PH-3 Phase Shifter will get you close to his original phase sound (try to avoid the Phase 90 style pedals for Kita's sound), while the BOSS Harmonist or a different Octave pedal would help capture some of his lead tones for the current era.
You could also consider a reverb pedal if you want to capture some of the ambient sounds Kita creates live or if the amp you choose doesn't include reverb.
AMP SIMULATOR PEDAL OPTIONS?
The final option to consider would be a Amp Simulator pedal. This type of pedal has become increasingly popular in the last few years and would be used in place of a traditional amp and effect pedals. You would then use the Amp Simulator with a IR Cabinet (a powered cabinet speaker) or with a Power Amp in between the Amp Simulator and a traditional cabinet.
They can be fairly expensive to buy and I would only advise buying one if you do intend to move on from your traditional amp/pedal setup, however the Quad Cortex DSP & Headrush Pedalboard would be good starting points. They are both aimed at capturing more traditionally hi gain amps such as the Bogner and Marshall amps, so should be able to do a good job at capturing Kita's sound.

Recommended Amp Settings

The following amp settings were based on photos from live performances and you should bear in mind that the volume may be quite loud for home use, so I would suggest bringing it down. Also bear in mind that every musician and amp will slightly differ so you may need to tweak with your settings to find the right blend.
My personal advice is to keep the gain around the middle and to use the volume to crunch up the sound. Kita does use a cabinet, so you may need to add more low end for a combo amp, and again bear in mind that the volume may need to be lower for home use.
Shino Luck V6:
Vol: 5, Treble: 5, Middle: 5, Bass: 3.5, Master: 3.5, Boost: 7, Level: 4
Bogner Green Setting:
Presence A: 8.5, Presence B: 8, Vol. 1: 5, Treble: 4:5, Mid: 4, Gain 1: 5.5
Bogner Blue Setting:
Vol. 2: 5.5, Vol. 3: 5.5, Treble: 5, Middle: 5/5.5, Bass: 5, Gain 2: 4.5, Gain 3: 5.5

Conclusion

Thank you again for reading this and I hope it's been insightful for you. Feel free to leave feedback below and any of your own tips

2024.05.14 19:20 Tsume76 Injured Thumbs - Trying to Find a Workable Steamdeck Solution

Hey all! Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for this, but the Steamdeck sub kept deleting.
I've got injuries in both of my thumbs that make some games a real challenge to keep with. I wanted to create a controller setup that would allow me to keep playing, for example, Fallout New Vegas - but I'm not sure how to proceed.
My initial thought was to use the Deck's pretty robust control mapping to set up two flight-sticks as each analogue stick. I borrowed two Extreme 3D Pro sticks from a friend and wouldn't you know it, they need drivers. Anyone have any suggestions? Right now I'm mostly sticking to games I can more easily henpeck with my index fingers, like BG3 and Slay the Spire.
Thanks!

2024.05.14 19:19 itsmphintime Dealing with Eviction and Hoarding in NYC

Hey everyone,
I recently found myself in a situation that feels like a scene straight out of a nightmare. Remember those childhood hide-and-seek games where the clutter provided perfect camouflage? Well, fast forward to adulthood, and let's just say my apartment has become a living homage to the show Hoarders.
Facing eviction in NYC is daunting enough, but add in the Mount Trashmore of memories piled up around me, and it's downright terrifying. I find myself wondering what happens to all this stuff during an eviction. Will it be tossed out unceremoniously, or is there some sort of process in place? And, perhaps my biggest fear, could I get in trouble for being a hoarder? I know it's not illegal, but...
Navigating through this cluttered chaos while battling my agoraphobia-induced anxiety is like trying to climb Everest with a toothpick. Therapy seems like the obvious solution, but finding a reliable therapist in this city feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. And even when I do manage to snag an appointment, I often forget about it by the time it rolls around, leaving me back at square one.
My past therapy experiences haven't been particularly helpful either. The last therapist I saw seemed more interested in playing musical chairs with my medications than actually addressing my concerns. When I tried to communicate that the new meds were making things worse, it was like talking to a brick wall. Needless to say, I'm feeling pretty lost and desperate for a lifeline right about now.
So, I'm turning to you, Reddit community, in the hopes of finding some much-needed advice, resources, or even just a few words of encouragement to help me tackle this beast of a situation. My ultimate dream? A space that doesn't resemble a never-ending game of Jenga, with treasures that whisper of memories or future projects, where I can actually see the floor again without fearing it's a terrifying archaeological dig waiting to happen.
Any guidance or support you can offer would be immensely appreciated. Thank you in advance for being the beacon of hope in this sea of uncertainty.
Looking forward to hearing from you all.

2024.05.14 19:18 stacl1n Should i study music in university?

Hi everyone, I'm at a crossroads and could really use some advice from those of you who have studied music/sound design in the university. I'm passionate about music, an electronic music producer myself and considering studying it in college, but I'm unsure if this is the best path.
From what I've observed, many successful music producers didn't major in music but instead studied fields related to music/audio/sound engineering or learned everything themselves and chose something completely different as major in uni. I'm wondering if I should follow a similar path.
Here are some of my questions: • Is it worth studying music production as a major in university, or should I focus on audio engineering or sound production instead? Or should i study something that's completely different and incomparable? Or something that is still attached to the music but not that much, like electrical engineering for example? • For those of you who have studied music, how has it helped or hindered your career? • Are there specific skills or knowledge from a music degree that you find invaluable? Conversely, for those who didn't study music, what alternative paths did you take?
I would love to hear your experiences and any advice you have on this matter. Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 19:17 Ancient_Tart_7695 On SSI, received a TPD discharge for aid and requested new FASFA not knowing I wasn't allowed to. Help please.

Hello,
To preface I am on SSI not SSDI
So I'm currently in school to get a Master's. I had applied for financial aid last year and I applied again this year not knowing that I couldn't get a new loan because I god TPD.
( I dont know what my doctor will put seeing as he isn't the one who initially helped me get on SSI) or should I simply call up my financial aid office and tell them I didn't know, I made a mistake and ask if they can cancel it and just see if my family member is still willing to pay? or should I contact a lawyer?
edit: by the way I am still disabled. I'll never not be disabled. My condition just varies in intensity and some medication I've gotten access to has improved my life but I'm not suddenly cured. SO I am still disabled

2024.05.14 19:15 P15T0L_WH1PP3D I can't believe how selfish and shallow my stepson has been

Not sure how else to phrase it, because I love him but he has a really bad way of being thoughtless and selfish. Our first Christmas, I was impressed with a gift that he made for his mom. It was cheap, literally just a bunch of notes in a paper bag labeled "reasons I love you" and each was a sentiment or story or inside joke. It was cheap and I understood because he was a broke-ass teenager who couldn't hold down a job.
Since then, though, I've come to experience his assumption and expectation for what he will be receiving for birthdays and Christmas. For example, he'll assume we were going to spend a few hundred dollars on gifts, and ask for it in cash instead of gifts. He asked for us to renew his medical weed permit ($250 at the time) and claimed that's all he wanted, then acted all shitty when there wasn't much else to open. He knows he gets money from his grandpa, so he's asked for advances on it. Every gift he treats as an expected transaction, taken for granted, not as a gift. For Christmas, his mom got him a necklace I think, that was sort of silly but there was a reason she got it. If he didn't like wearing it, I didn't blame him, but he could hang it from a tac on his wall or something. Instead, he actually gave it back to her right there within moments of opening it, saying it wasn't his style.
What finally pissed me off enough to write this was Mother's Day. I asked him weeks ago what he was going to do for his mom. He's 24 and no longer lives with us, but he has a job and is still getting food stamps from his brief unemployment, Actually has more than he needs to the point of stocking up before the benefits expire. Anyway, I remind him weeks ago that Mother's Day is coming up, his mom doesn't want anything but a nice heartfelt card or note because we know he's working hard and trying to save for a car and a better place. We tell him Mom wants to go to ihop, nothing fancy at all. We didn't offer to pay, but I assumed we would. We pick him up and take him after work. While we are waiting for our food, he gives her a card.
The card was literally a picture on the front and a sentence on the inside that he said "this kinda says how I feel so I didn't write anything else." And to be clear, what I mean is: the card had a sentence printed on the inside. He did not write anything, he didn't even sign his name. If we wanted to return the card, we could have. It was literally right off the shelf, and obviously a last minute purchase that he bought from work just moments before we picked him up.
Number one, I hate how shitty it makes me feel when WE show emotional investment in him with not only our thoughtful gifts but also very sincere cards and notes. We show a ton of support, love, and appreciation for him and everything he does and has done. For him to gloss over that while searching for the money inside the card is like holy shit, you're an adult, are you not aware of how selfish you look? If you're going to be an asshole, at least pretend to not be one in front of us. Second, and this is important: You will not be successful in relationships if you are an emotional slug like that. I can't imagine how his girlfriends would feel or how his wife would feel with this approach to her birthday or anniversary. You cannot half-ass something that is significant to you in any way, especially when it is equally or more significant to people you love.
My wife, who often suppresses her reactions to these kinds of things, actually broke down and told me how disappointed she was when she got that Mother's Day card. If she's willing to say something about it, I can only imagine it's more than what she's expressed because she doesn't want to be negative toward her son. I get that. So I can't imagine how low she felt when after all that she's done for him, especially in the past year, his only gift is a last-minute purchase of convenience, no thought, and not even his own words. Not even a signature.

2024.05.14 19:15 cosmogyra ...which is it?

hi guys. i really, really need some advice about my gender identity so i am here. of course only i can know the true answer but please help me find it.
so, i am 22 years old afab and have never been dysphoric my whole life (except for my chest area), almost my whole life, until the pandemic. i remember choosing the male avatar in games i used to play sometimes, but i didn't hate the idea of choosing the girl option. i enjoyed playing games like stardoll, etc. i was also playing with cars, boyish things (?)... but i did not differentiate.
i was okay with being referred to as feminine pronouns or feminine things, again, until pandemic. in high school i did makeup, wear feminine-ish clothes, never doubted my identity. i kinda knew about lgbtq+ as a concept but never thought myself as one, or felt like i was 'one of them'.
then the pandemic hit and i had to sit at home. i met tiktok and all the kinds and teens and people that are not afraid of expressing themselves. they looked so sure of themselves that i got jealous. because until then, i always lived as default, never had my own beliefs or thoughts mostly, i was believing what my family believed as a religion, i was 'feeling' like how i was born, except i never question myself about that topic until then.
then i started to question myself about the things i never questioned myself about (?), which was literally everything. my religion, my sexuality, my personal beliefs, my gender... it was so overwhelming i got into a big depression. then i came out as non-binary. i realized being perceived as a female and feminine things mad me feel bad and gave me dysphoria. especially my chest. but then last year, i started to notice my inner thoughts about men and how i would like to born as one. i always caught myself thinking ''i wish i was born a cis boy and had his body...'' but i would not want to be a ''typical man'', if that is a thing. for example, i wouldn't want a beard or any overly masculine thing. but i really want to have a boy's physical body and his voice and his hair and... it goes on.
after that i tried masculine style as much as i could; a short mullet hairstyle, more baggy clothes, more clothes from men's section, having my friends calling me a boy or saying that i ''looked handsome''. these expressions made me so so happy. but at the same time, even though i was happy, i couldn't tell myself that i was fully a man, the thought scared me... idk if 'scared' is the right word but i thought i did not deserve getting called a 'man'. then on daily i kept getting misgendered from the people who don't know my gender identity because i don't pass irl and having a high voice doesn't really help. those made me really sad and i felt dysphoric.
so yeah, that's mostly it. i don't think i'm cis... but am i a man? am i something different? which is it? the thought scares me, honestly. i can't imagine myself being 40-50 and being a big man. not to mention my family and the people around me are mostly transphobic as far as i know. there's also the thought that what if i transition and i find myself 'hideous' and not happy? what if i end up regretting in the future? what would my family and the people around me think? they would think i am a disappointment, probably. getting those reactions probably would mess me up badly. so would it really worth it if it saddens me in the end, after all the blood, sweat and tears shed?
thank you so much if you read until the end. what do you think? did you experience something like this? i can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, sadly... i don't actually know if everything will be better for me. tell me if you need more context, i will provide you context happily if needed. have a good day!

2024.05.14 19:15 stacl1n Should I study Music in University ?

Hi everyone,
I'm at a crossroads and could really use some advice from those of you who have studied music/sound design in the university.
Here are some of my questions: - Is it worth studying music production as a major in university, or should I focus on audio engineering or sound production instead? Or should i study something that’s completely different and incomparable? Or something that is still attached to the music but not that much, like electrical engineering for example? - For those of you who have studied music, how has it helped or hindered your career? - Are there specific skills or knowledge from a music degree that you find invaluable? - Conversely, for those who didn't study music, what alternative paths did you take?
I would love to hear your experiences and any advice you have on this matter. Thanks in advance!
