2024.05.14 10:54 purple-posie16 Freaking out about recovery
I'm (44f) scheduled for a microdisectomy and hemilaminectomy in the morning for L5S1 and I'm seriously stressing about the recovery. It's 430am and I can't sleep from pain but also just so nervous.
Been trying to prepare myself as much as possible: did some rearranging of my things to prevent any bending or twisting or lifting, watched several videos on how to log roll in and out of bed, use the bathroom, etc. And I know walking will be key.
However, sleeping has me panicked. I keep reading how many people are sleeping on their side after surgery, which is what I've been doing the past 9 months with my pain and sciatica. Literally been sleeping on the same side in the same position for all this time because anything else is too painful, even back sleeping. The advice is to sleep with a pillow between your knees, while also maybe hugging a pillow and also putting a pillow behind you if sleeping on side.
My question is: how the hell do you log roll into this position? I've been practicing and cannot do it. I can get onto my back, but have trouble getting to the other side of my body and getting into place to hug the pillow/put pillow between my knees without doing a bunch of readjusting which I know I can't be doing post surgery. And then how do you put the pillow behind you if no twisting is allowed? And how do you put your covers on once situated? Are people just sleeping with no covers for the recovery period?? I'm going to be miserable if that's the issue.
And same with back sleeping: how do you put the pillow under your knees? How do you log roll out of that position? Or do you always need someone to assist you?
And I've read sitting is limited, that it should be laying down, or walking, for the most part. I have a TV at the foot of my bed. If I have to lay flat on my back or flat on my side, I can't watch tv. Is it ok to be propped up a bit? If so, again, how do you log roll in and out of this position? Are you allowed to scoot around and/or prop yourself up with your hands/elbows to lift your head/shoulders/torso up a bit to get into position? And then how do you remove the pillow to log roll out without twisting?
I don't have a spouse or partner to assist me in and out of bed. My parents will be helping me during recovery, but I cannot expect them to "tuck me in" every single night for 6 weeks during the physical restrictions. Also I often have to pee in the middle of the night? How do I get resituated then if it's expected that someone should ideally be assisting me in and out of bed?
I've also read a lot of people use those pregnancy pillows during recovery which initially seemed like a good idea, but again, how do you log roll in and out of a U-shaped pillow? Without twisting to move the back part of the pillow?
Sorry if I'm rambling or overthinking this, but I'm so stressed out about this. I'm terrified of messing it all up within minutes of coming home. I also have two dogs, one of which is a large 70 lb 1 yr old puppy who is pretty rowdy. My parents and I actually live in the same house so they are more than willing to help me with everything and the dogs. They are in their late 60s and mid 70s. They are pretty healthy for the most part and are mobile (my dad still works) but like any older person they have physical issues. They know the first few days are going to be the hardest so if they have to help that much at first its fine, but i cannot expect them to help me in and out of bed any time i need to get up, like in the middle of the night.

However you can talk with your new-parent friends. Ask them about how do they decide to buy baby clothes? What they are looking for before completing their purchases? Do they get any expert opinion before making buying decision? How do they search online and what they want to see? Is there any great YouTube channels about this.
Don’t have any friends? Checkout your friends not a new-parents but parents and ask similar questions to them. If you also don’t have them, try to make new born friends. I know how hard it is but let’s be honest here. If you don’t know anybody in your target audience, how do you manage to get know them? All of the successful stores I saw they have direct relationship with their target audience.
When you make your research with real people, then you can extend your project to online. Try to search as they do. What do you find? Deep in dive and take your notes.
Now it’s time to analyze them.
Nope, it can’t. You need to deep dive into your market and find a sub-segment, a niche that will need your products much better than anybody else and afford it easily.

First look at brand definition. AMA defines brand as “any distinctive feature like a name, term, design, or symbol that identifies goods or services”.
Branding is for creating and managing your brand’s identity. It involves your mission, values, culture and public image.
I’m not an expert on brand, but I know how branding can be effective for your conversions and performance. Here are some checklist for you.
Now it’s time to work on go-to-market strategy and crafting our marketing strategy.
You need a plan to introduce your store or new products to the market. This is what we called go-to-market(GTM) strategy.
Main goal of the GTM is letting people know that there is a new brand or product line. It’s similar to launch marketing. Key message here is there is a new products/brand launched and it offer the best for you. Give it a try, you’ll love it.
All of your messages and communication should be parallel to this process.
Our focus is convincing people to try our products/brand. So I always offer a special campaign just for the launch to give people to a reason to try your products/brand.
For our hypothetical Shopify store we can run a special campaign for launch like;
Let’s say you have GREAT advertising creatives and a huge budget and just spending it. Don’t wait to crack the code and having lot’s of sales.

Now we can continue with our hypothetical store example. We’re selling high-end, organic baby clothes on our store. We crafted our ICP, empathy map, work on branding and created our story.
We can create a educative e-book like “7 Harmful Chemicals Commonly Used in Baby Clothes and How to Avoid Them” and run some campaigns targeted new parents on social network (Facebook, Instagram or YouTube)
This ads will land on a landing page that gives brief information about why we should pay attention to chemicals in baby clothes for our little ones and make a promise like “I spend my last 5 years about researching chemicals on baby clothes and prepare this book for you and your little one”. Also there can be a quick video about our story explaining our expertise in this field and why we’re building this brand.
We can ask for their email address to share the book with them. When they enter their email address, we’ll send them this ebook.
After first email with the ebook, we can send a few more emails with easy to digest information about chemicals.
This will create an expertise image on our target customers and start to create a bond with them. Not a bad start, right?
At the same time we can use this content on our social media, right? Quick videos, infographics and posts about the chemicals in the baby clothes.

- What are their value propositions?
- What is hot about them? Return guarantee, free shipping etc.
- What is not hot about them? Poor product or store design, low UX on the website, etc.
- What people think about them? Google reviews, Trust pilot reviews, product reviews on the store.
- Are there any partnership or influencer program they’re running?
- What is their Google/YouTube campaign strategy? Check it here.

What do you say about our target market? Can all of new parents be our target market?Nope, it can’t. You need to deep dive into your market and find a sub-segment, a niche that will need your products much better than anybody else and afford it easily.

Branding is for creating and managing your brand’s identity. It involves your mission, values, culture and public image.
I’m not an expert on brand, but I know how branding can be effective for your conversions and performance. Here are some checklist for you.

I'm thinking of getting the BOB Easy Card (Rupay variant) because of the ongoing offer with JCB where you get 25% off on international spends. I tried applying on the website but the credit limit was a mere 25k which isn't enough since I plan to use it abroad in 2 weeks. I'm projecting a daily spend of 5-10k. I don't want my CIBIL score to tank because of high credit utilization.
I'm new to the CC world; my only other cards are an Amex corp card and HDFC Regalia Gold. The latter has a limit of ~3.5L.

I intend to use this for a few purposes. First - saving articles that I read online, or even entire books. Also for taking notes for various topics e.g. research on a company for an interview . Planning my day (daily notes) and recording meeting minutes. I want to be viewing, navigating between, and revisiting these notes - e.g. fetching by date, or by meeting name or topic. Basic formatting (h1,h2,h3, bold, highlight, hyperlink)
Preferably something as simple yet intuitive as the stock Notes app on iOS (but it lacks a Windows app). Nothing too complicated / cluttered like Obsidian.

I used to have an Apple watch 40mm but since I moved from iPhone back to Android I feel like my options are limited. I didnt have a problem with charging daily, but I wanted to move from it. So I had to discard Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch. I have a smaller hand so I prefer smaller size. I found out Vivoactive 5 that is small enough. I would be using it to monitor my HR and while running, cycling and hiking.
I saw that there is no barometer in VA5, so is there information about elevation, or is that completely missing? Also I read that it uses older generation of heart rate sensor, how accurate is it while cycling? I live in Australia and am asking about the specific process in a clinical setting in Australia. I've had severe chronic pain for 31 years now. I've also been diagnosed with major depressive disorder. I also have anxiety. I've been through a lot of different medications over the years. I was put on Targin 10/5 twice a day, so I could go one something for the depression before attending an amazing pain management clinic twice (5 years apart due to the change in my physical condition) and got a lot out of it both times. I went from a walking frame to only needing crutches when leaving the house. I was on that for 8 years, then started the weaning process as my pain reduced thanks to more effective management. It took me about 3 years to go completely off the Targin. I didn't think that last 2.5mg dose was doing much for me, but I was so wrong. I am just not coping with the pain and my depression has taken a major downturn because I'm cutting things out of my life again to try and cope with it, so all I'm doing is working and sleeping. It feels like I'm going backwards and I don't want to go back on Targin because it took me so long to get off it.
My psychiatrist has just referred me back to my pain management specialist (from the clinics) saying they recommend ketamine infusion. It's been mentioned in the past that this was the next step for me if things didn't stabilise. I haven't seen the pain specialist yet, but I want to know more about the process in Australia. All of my reading has been about the US and more about the mental therapy side of it, not the pain side of it.
Is there anyone who has undergone ketamin treatment in AU who can let me know what to expect? -Psych said it was a 5 day inpatient process. Is that 5 days in hospital, or visiting daily for 5 days for the infusion? -Would I be able to work while undergoing it? (I'm in IT) -Was it helpful for you? (I have nerve pain and inflammation) -How long does it last? Is it something that has to be repeated every year or something? -Do you really "trip"? A lot of people say it, but I don't know what to expect there and it makes me a bit anxious tbh. -Can you claim it on Medicare or private health or do you have to pay the full cost of the drug and anaesthetist? -Any advice on what questions I should ask the pain specialist about during my appointment?

I was afraid and went back to my strict diet, took some cardio aspirin, resumed taking an ACE inhibitor, despite normal pressure. This was when I first had an MRI scan of the brain, and it revealed only an unrelated tumor of the trigeminal nerve (1 by 2 cm, invading a bit into the left orbital cavity), described as "probably a schwannoma" - this tumor has not grown a bit ever since, it has the same size on all scans since 2010. Except this tumor, located in the left cavernous sinus, nothing was found.

Then, half-starved, I had myself voluntarily hospitalized there again and consented to start on this microdosing insulin treatment in November 2011.
Surprizingly, on this microdosing insulin regimen my strange left-sided sensations gradually diminished, over the course of the next 6 months, and I could read again without sudden attacks of "airplane ear" and dizziness and feelings of "my left arm is weirdly heavy/stiff all of a sudden". She took all the MRI scans dating back to 2015 which I had with me, and after perusing them for a long time said that the same spot is visible on all previous scans; and that she has no idea what it is, but the spot is of the same size, so she indends to pursue watchful waiting, with follow-up MRI scans every 2 years.
I went home and managed to find the rest of the MRI scans dating back to February 2010, shortly after my "stroke-like episode". I can see the lesion there.
I have these questions: 1) Why would radiologists not mention a midbrain lesion in their impression papers for years? Is it clinically insignificant? 2) Could a lesion there be somehow related to my odd sensations? 3) What could have caused the lesion to arise there in the first place, while I was only 32 years old, or even 22 years old (if it arose there in 2000)? 4) Why insulin treatment diminishes these sensations, while going off insulin and eating a lot of carbs makes them worse?
What can I do to research my condition further? I have little confidence in local doctors in Russia, having been treated for a non-existent diabetes for 23 years. Recently I had some stress at work (my attention is flagging, so I had to go from being a translator to being a food delivery person), and my left arm is feeling heavy sometimes, despite the insulin, and I have weird sensations of being a little clumsy, despite not being clumsy in reality.
I'm ready to provide additional information. I'm currently taking 150 mg venlafaxine, 75 mcg thyroxine, 5 mg rosuvastatin, and 1600 to 2000 mcg methylfolate daily. May 13 2024. I am learning and still need to learn more on how to get over differences and accept one another humans as just the same and that i shouldnt judge too hard cuz what if i was in their position. We hear the term escaping the matrix or finding the cheat code in life. Well the matrix isnt about escaping reality or people ITS ABOUT ESCAPING THE GRASP OF THE GOVERNMENTS AND BEINGS THAT STOP US HUMANS DOING WHAT WE WANT.
And if we humans cant see this then perhaps the time for the human race is over and doomed to fail either from nuclear amerggdon or climate change.
Like being a dick and not wanting to help or actually be active and apart of something is what government want from us regular folk us NON ELITE HUMANS the ones who don’t have tens of millions of dollars or just enough money and superficial happiness or anything to not get you thinking about each other and how we all feel.
They (as in the people who get to decide our way of life the Government’s WHICH BY THE WAY THEY SHOULD HAVE NO RIGHT) dont want us to see “oh damn they got the power to actually make the change and theyre not making change ?” THEY’LL DO ANYTHING TO JUST NOT GET ASKED MORE QUESTIONS AND GET INTO IN DEPTH (examples like taxes and how we are all to busy thinking about our bills or how anything would get done cuz everyone needs to focus on things that “actually matter” BUT THE THINGS THAT ACTUALLY MATTER OR JUST DISTRACTIONS , like if you read this and think wait i don’t have the time for this LIKE WHY DONT YOU?? Because your to busy with what…? EXACTLY THAT WHAT AND ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IS USALLY WHAT IT IS AND AN EXAMPLE OF A DISTRACTION)

Spread the word and lets help each other by getting educated, ask more questions. don’t take everything at face value all the time and don’t just follow and the herd mentality, actually use your brain and think how this relates to you and others in your life and help them out if possible. I posted on here about 20 days ago asking for help about my partner who I believed was manic. I got a lot of wonderful advice, and started reading Loving Someone With Bipolar. I'm learning so much about the misconceptions and daily struggles. One major part I got wrong was that they were not taking medication, but in fact they were, just not the one I thought. We had a conversation about a prescription change and that they decided not to go with one. However I never followed up or asked about what was working.
It's incredibly important to discuss and check in with your partnefamily member on how medication is doing and helping. This is in the book as well. Destigmatize the relationship with medication and make it a positive conversation to celebrate together when something is working, and work together in support if it's not.
Don't make my mistake by not asking and making assumptions based on little information. Mental illness is something new for me that I have been learning a lot about in the past few years. Hey everyone!
I have a quick question.
As of a few days (really recent) I have suddenly made a turn around in my life, changed my environment into one thats full of islamic stuff and quit bad habits (like reading not so good stuff, listening to haram stuff including music and wasting my time on just useless things) cold turkey.
Alhamdulilah this is all due to allah's guidance.
Though, now I have a nagging issue.
My schooling.
I live in a non-muslim country and go to school there
The rules are a bit wonky, so I'll try to explain it in a non personal matter.
After highschool I will be going community college (its really oversimplified but eh, If I get to avoid having my post deleted then so be it)
Which isn't a issue in itself, though what is the issue is that the degree I've chosen may not be good for me.
I chose it before I was practicing because I was lazy and I didn't want the horror of working hospital shifts for like the next 30 years of my life. Which I now really do want.
I lied and cheated my way out of getting into a good school. I could blame it on shaytans whispers but it's all my own fault and I feel bad about it every single day
But now I regret it.
Since this job is in the ICT and school I go to is prominently only boys. I'm just in simple terms really screwed.
While I can reverse the choice by simply continuing my schooling (which has HARSH conditions like graduating in 7 subjects instead of 6.) And I am currently in my exam year.

My question is.
Say I don't exactly get to continue my schooling and I am left with no choice but to go and do this degree.
Will I be sinful?
Since I'd have to do it for two years minimum before being able to stop.
I don't to do anything that will make allah displeased with me and I most certainly don't want to rack up bad deeds for something I voluntarily chose.
I believe that unnecessary mixing with non mahrams is a bad thing. If i do this degree I'd have to work with, interact with men daily.
Call me old fashioned or crazy but after doing some research my belief has most certainely be reinforced.
Any help?

I have a quick question.
As of a few days (really recent) I have suddenly made a turn around in my life, changed my environment into one thats full of islamic stuff and quit bad habits (like reading not so good stuff, listening to haram stuff including music and wasting my time on just useless things) cold turkey.
Alhamdulilah this is all due to allah's guidance.
Though, now I have a nagging issue.
My schooling.
I live in a non-muslim country and go to school there
The rules are a bit wonky, so I'll try to explain it in a non personal matter.
After highschool I will be going community college (its really oversimplified but eh, If I get to avoid having my post deleted then so be it)
Which isn't a issue in itself, though what is the issue is that the degree I've chosen may not be good for me.
I chose it before I was practicing because I was lazy and I didn't want the horror of working hospital shifts for like the next 30 years of my life. Which I now really do want.
I lied and cheated my way out of getting into a good school. I could blame it on shaytans whispers but it's all my own fault and I feel bad about it every single day
But now I regret it.
Since this job is in the ICT and school I go to is prominently only boys. I'm just in simple terms really screwed.
While I can reverse the choice by simply continuing my schooling (which has HARSH conditions like graduating in 7 subjects instead of 6.) And I am currently in my exam year.
