2024.06.05 20:42 Jvic111 CNBC and Wall Street Manipulation of Markets and Public Sentiment
So, all of these CNBC fucks, including Cramer who make ‘rally cries’ everyday for 20 years on specific stocks, various media sources writing very specific articles pro or con a security, and bank execs like Jamie Dimon or any other Wall Street prick making written and verbal statements about stocks and markets, whether something is a ‘buy’ or a ‘sell’, including price targeting is okay?
But a retail investor posting his position in GME, and posting cryptic memes that can’t be directly linked is market manipulation?!
Not to mention the fact that disclosure rules on short selling, swaps, and other cat shit wrapped in dog shit derivates, and naked short selling are virtually nonexistent…or at the very least, unenforced.
Don’t get me started on Doug and Ken the liquidity fairies who manufacture and rehypothecate fake shares in their basements, probably while they slather each other in mayo. Or the FTD warehouse.
And if you tell me that Wall Street doesn’t talk stocks and coordinate certain plays that move markets as standard business practice?! I’ll tell you that if you pull my other leg it plays fucking jingle bells.
Get fucked CNBC, Cramer, and Wall Street….

2024.05.23 14:34 GeoffPit7 How did Ken not get touched by the patch?
Not really looking to complain, just trying to understand the reasoning.
I'll put a long preface, so that we're clear. I understand that Ken is appealing, I understand that it's much more frustrating (and gimmicky) to fight DJ, at all levels, and I'm grateful the hammer hit him between the two. I also understand not wanting to demolish a character, more of a fine tuning like Luke got (some hurtbox extensions, a couple frames here and there etc) so that the character remains solid/strong. I also want to say that I don't mind playing against a very solid Ken, even though he's got every tool in his bag and more.
But Ken went untouched. HOW. The "direction" of the game - character clearly states "reducing low risk moves", for Ken specifically, nerfing his striking. Unless I'm blind, there's virtually nothing significative there except the chin buster t.combo (I think it can't be used to trap anymore), a welcomed change. Ken can still take you to both corners from a "natural" crlp > t.combo. They even buffed heavy jinrai and given better options off of quick dash. What am I missing here?
In comparison, even Lily and Jamie got important nerfs, e.g. Lily's hurtbox on her best button, crHp, Jamie's sweep, his command grab, hurtbox on d.kick comes out 4f frames faster. Even here, these nerfs are in line with the statement, trying to make the characters more solid by also removing oppressive, more gimmicky playstyles. Fine, makes sense.
How does Jinrai get to stay the same (sorry, buffed overall), Dragonlash gets to stay the same (ayo shoutout from the moon where it just scooped me from). I would put Chun in the same upper echelon, and she got a couple nerfs herself (hurtbox to 5lp a notable one).
So is it because of popularity in your opinion? Or do they actually think the chin buster alone is enough to have less character variance in top8?
Please discuss peacefully bois

Beyond humanities control
Once came a giant Octopus- like monster that took control of a city of arts. Once he reached it’s goal, art became extinct and as a result, there came a mass suicide amoung the people. It became so bad that it had driven humanity insane and into madmen. The scientist discovered that creature in the deep dark sea where nothing existed. No meaning to it. Just nothing. The cancellation of music hints at half octopus half big hairless dog.If there is a river delta, there is no need to cancel the rake.
However, I have no friends.
With that being said, I shall sacrifice myself to the Rake.
He is the rake.
The Scientist:Hi. I am doctor Jennifer Lopez. I live in the 24th street of West Avenue. When the climate crisis came, there came a world leader who put a pan on mental labeling since suffering makes growth. "Let us ban all mental illness! Let's be free!" he said. And so, every psychiatrist was put into camps to live out of. Now, I am secretly studied a 2-year old who has a hard time walking and talking. Once, when a bug nearby went extinct. I heard crying upstairs, and I came upstairs and saw a human baby. I guessed that a clone appeared after a species had gone extinct. I took care of it and it looked normal, but almost robot like. At 2 years old, he was not hitting his milestones, but there was nothing that could be done because of the ban on mental labeling. I so then sent him to military school if that ever would improve, it didn't. He became bullied relentlessly and almost committed suicide. I has enough and protested to the government that he needed help and support. "He is a mad genius." They said. Above me stood a giant beaver that whipped me with it's giant tail to stop labeling it. When he got his doll taken away, he just cried to suicide. I don't know how to end this story, but suffering makes you stronger. But at what costs! I have now woken up covered in blood knife in hand, and I am too afraid to protest against the government now.
Squirrels on the wall
Last night, I woke up and saw squirrels on the wall. So anyway, the squirrels started blasting. Bang bang! I ducked and covered beneath my windows to see a white van with a deformed deer-like squirrel following me.
The Knocks on the window
When I was 6 years old, every time I would pet my cat, I would hear tapping and knocking on the window. I told my parents about it and they told me it and they reluctantly agreed to hear the voices in my head. They said it was probably just a bird or something. I knew it wasn’t though. I distinctly heard a person knocking and tapping on the window. As I've progressively gotten older, I heard tapping and knocking on the window every time I would pet anything virtually soft. Then came the night where everything changed. It was night and I was laying in bed, alone with my thoughts, reflecting on my bed. I was clutching a giant lion, so I anticipated the sounds of tapping and knocking on my window, but I didn’t. Finally, I heard a knock, slow and strong, then a tap. With a giant leap of courage, I pulled open the blinds to my bedroom window, and I saw something that would forever haunt me. It was a man, I don’t even know if I would call this a man, had his face upside down, the lips had the width of an asian giant hornet. The figure’s figures looked like a foam finger, both length and width. It had no eyes, just two gaping black holes. I immediately shut the blinds and ran to my parent’s bedroom, screaming like a little girl. My parents have asked if I had gone completely insane. My parents always thought I was paranoid but after this,I’m sure they thought I was just flat out crazy. They searched around the house to find absolutely nothing. I described what he looked like to them, and I immediately heard their tone of voice change to confusion and concern. Since then, my parents have had me see many psychiatrists. They could never find what was wrong because I know I saw that figure, and I know I will be the only one to witness that thing. Recently, we moved out of that house, and right after the family moved in to our house, the youngest daughter of that family was found in a pool of blood, dead in the bathtub. The head was even hidden. They had to look through the house to find her head and I don’t know where they found it, but they did. I wasn’t allowed to go to her funeral. What kills me the most is that otherworldly evil is lurking and hiding around that house, continuing to do what it does, and whenever I tell people about it, they think I’m crazy! I can’t prove my case, but I know this evil energy around that house.
The abandoned arcade place.
My name will be “Ben” for the story and I am a liminal space photographer. What that is is a photographer that tries to find empty, yet familiar spots to the human eye and mind, and the photographer photographs whatever finds surreal to him. My job has been great, until I visited an abandoned arcade place some time ago, called “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.” From what I’ve heard, a fox-like animatronic malfunctioned in 1987, causing it to bite out of a child’s frontal lobe. The abandoned place is located just a few miles outside of Richmen Town and into poor man’s land. I stepped inside to this place and I got the most bizarre feelings from it. I was in a place of childhood nostalgia and I am also alone in a dark dark spot of abandonment. The place was creepy as hell, which gave me some perfect opportunities to photograph. I was walking alone in a dark hallway when I spotted a line of dolls based on animatronics. It looked so creepy. They had no eyes, just gaping black holes with spider eggs coming out of them. I heard this faint whisper coming from the very end of the hallway that was too dark to see. I believe it was whispering the words “masking.” I was disturbed enough and ran back into the main stage. The curtains were open and the animatronics were nowhere in sight. Just then, I heard the sounds of pots and pans being fiddled with and jamie. I then saw to the right of me, a rabbit animatronic. I wasn’t even able to let out a scream. I ran into the parking lot and sped home. Out of all places, this was the creepiest, most mysterious, and most surreal place I’ve visited as a photographer. I didn’t take any photos from there, but I’m just very happy I made it out alive. How were these robots able to roam freely? Are they alive? I will never know, and I kinda don’t want to. Hold one, there is a knock on my window. Oh my god! What th-

The scared gamer
Indeed the gamer became super scared while playing FNAF. “AHHHHHHHHAH! What was that?!?!?!?!” he said. All of a sudden, he heard some knocks on the window. He was the non confrontational gamer type, so he just shut the blinds to tell the pranksters he was not interested. Around half an hour later, he heard the knocks again and this time, it sounded more frantic. Nervous, the gamer did not make a single sound and crept to the window and opened it just a little. That was the biggest and most foolish mistake of his life, because Freddy Fazbear fully pulled the blinds open! Fazbear was pulling on to his arm with a very tight grip. The gamer grabbed the lamp nearby and threw it to Freddy Fazbear. Freddy Fazbear ran into the woods. The gamer has never had a more horrifying experience.
The Book
It was a hot Saturday afternoon. I was reading a book called “War and Peace” when the book opened its eyes and grew its arms and legs. I had to chase the book down, which caused a mess in my kitchen. Eventually, I caught it on the couch and began to shake it like a poodle. That’s when I woke up. I took a giant drink of my coffee and continued to read “War and Peace”. Everything was normal until the words started falling out! I ran to the nearest bucket and all the letters and words fell out! How can this happen to me?! I’ve made my mistake! Again, I woke up and took a giant drink of my coffee. My book was normal, but I saw a giant monkey to the left of me. “OOOH OOOH AAAA AAAAA!” The monkey said. The monkey then proceeded to throw poop at my book. My book was now covered in poop! How can this happen to me?! I’ve made my mistake! The monkey then ripped it apart in two. “Victorious!” he said as if he were Thor. I had enough of this! I strangled the monkey and he strangled me! I was about to die from suffocation, but I woke up in my bedroom! My god! What was that dream! I became absurd by life’s chaos and after that, I fell asleep relatively quickly. The next morning, I realized that I had run out of coffee! I was about to cry, but the monkey gave me a pat on my shoulder and I instantly felt safe and better.

FATHERS AND MYSTICISM
Last night, I woke up to see my very own Father staring at me!
He was deformed and twisted!
He looked like a twirl around an angel with no eyes. Just two gaping black holes.
The leg was noticeably bigger than the other.
It’s face, oh it’s face!
My Father had the face of a human, but looked like it was sown onto this thing!
I was about to take off, but he stretched out his long arms and began to strangle me!
“Your writing and your loves are the most worthless piece of goose egg sh@@ I have seen in a very long time!” He said.
He snapped my neck and now I am dead.
I have woken up in the darkness with chainsaws tied to my neck.
A grizzly bear came into the room and said “Obey orders, or you will be a wasp.” He said in a Satanic voice.
“ Nono! P-please don’t do this!”
“Soooooory!”
The bear lifted his chainsaw and into my left arm. I screamed absolute pains of agonizing pain as blood came gushing out of my internal veins!
The last thing I heard before passing out was the horrible sound of my left arm hitting the floor.
I woke up again in darkness. I tried to move, but I made a shocking realization! I am now a yellow jacket. The floating head of my Dad appeared, and he taunted me for ages until he released me into the wild. I have since then been a wasp and the people around my nest treat me as a weirdo. I can’t communicate my feelings to you, nor can you communicate to me. All I know is that I have horrible interests and writings, and everything is my fault, and becoming a wasp has everything to do with my wrongdoings.

2024.05.15 01:20 pintord America’s biggest energy scam is happening now BY WILLIAM S. BECKER, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR - 05/13/24 8:00 AM ET
The United States has seen some whopping mishaps and scandals in the oil and gas industry over the years, from Teapot Dome in the 1920s to the collapse of Enron in 2001 and the Deepwater Horizon, Exxon-Valdez and Santa Barbara oil spills.
However, the largest, most egregious and most profoundly damaging scandal is still underway.
The unholy alliance between America’s governments and the fossil fuel industry has been going on for decades, undeterred and unpunished. Federal and state governments subsidize and facilitate the production and consumption of oil, natural gas and coal despite knowing these products are permanently damaging life on a planetary scale.
Many of our elected officials have participated in a carbon cartel that has blocked effective climate action. U.S. scientists began warning in the 1950s that fossil fuels were changing the climate. Yet fossil fuels still provide about 80 percent of U.S. energy, and America has become the world’s biggest oil and gas producer.
The Teapot Dome scandal involved oil industry bribes of a single public official. Today, the oil industry can influence elected officials with unlimited campaign contributions, unrelenting lobbying, and expensive advertising campaigns to burnish the industry’s image.
Open Secrets reports that the oil and gas industry spent over a trillion dollars on election campaigns between 1990 and last month. Between 1990 and 2020, five big oil companies reportedly spent at least $3.6 billion on advertising. While scientists have determined that most of the world’s underground reserves of fossil fuels must remain, the U.S. oil and gas industry keeps drilling, netting an average of $2.8 billion a day over the last 50 years, according to Statista, a data analysis firm. Statista says the industry made more than a trillion dollars annually for much of the past decade.
The industry could have invested these enormous outlays and profits to lead the world’s clean-energy transition. Instead, it has conducted a long campaign to deceive policymakers and the American people and intimidate critics.
For its part, Congress has done virtually nothing to phase out fossil fuels with mandates or market forces. It continues giving the industry billions of dollars in yearly tax breaks that promote oil and gas production. It allows the industry to “externalize” more than $750 billion in social and environmental damages. The damages are not reflected in the market price of these fuels, making it hard for clean alternatives to compete. In 2022, the hidden costs amounted to $2,243 for every man, woman and child in the United States. Congress had an opportunity to correct this market “imperfection” with carbon pricing in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. But it failed to act.
So, Americans pay for fossil fuels four times: first through tax subsidies, second in energy bills, third with health care and environmental cleanup costs, and fourth with the rapidly growing costs of climate-induced disasters.
Before industrialization began, the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million (ppm). In the 1980s, it reached 350 ppm, still considered safe. Despite international promises to cut CO2 pollution, scientists expect the concentration to reach nearly 427 ppm this year, higher than it has been in millions of years.
The industry’s deceit and obfuscation is well documented, and a congressional investigation has just confirmed it. But some of the industry’s most recent are worth noting.
For example, oil and gas companies frequently sue environmental organizations (so-called SLAPP suits) that oppose even free speech and assembly. Researchers at Duke University reported as long ago as 1993, “A pattern is emerging across the United States in which citizens and local community groups are being sued for what has long been considered ‘ordinary’ public participation.” SLAPP lawsuits rarely prevail in court, but the industry uses them to intimidate and drain the resources of environmental organizations.
Exxon is even suing some investors who want it to adopt more aggressive climate-stabilization policies. A spokesman for one of the investment groups explains it wants only to “safeguard the long-term future of the company and the global economy in view of the climate crisis.”
Oil-producing states have joined this litigation strategy. North Dakota, Texas, Montana and Wyoming have sued the U.S. Interior Department over a rule to reduce methane leaks, a potent greenhouse gas, from oil and gas operations. Yet new research at Stanford University shows natural gas infrastructure leaks three times more methane than the Environmental Protection Agency estimates. Researchers say economic and public health costs amount to $10 billion annually.
Over the last six years, states, cities, counties and tribal nations have countered with at least 32 lawsuits against oil majors to seek compensation for climate-related damages or penalties for deceptive business practices. The industry tied these suits up for years over jurisdictional issues.
In the meantime, oil producers are engaged in public relations games over their role in climate change. Major producers jumped aboard the “net zero carbon” wagon when oil prices were low, but they backed away and made record-breaking profits when prices rose. Their production plans belie their net-zero promises. “Exxon touts its support for the Paris Agreement while at the same time boasting to investors that it will increase oil and gas production 25 percent by 2030, a scenario that would be game over for the climate,” the Center for Climate Integrity explains.
Oil majors reportedly donate hundreds of millions of dollars to leading universities “to build relationships that could help the industry avoid taking climate action.” And Exxon CEO Darren Woods is trying to shift the blame for climate change to energy consumers. “The people generating the emissions need to be aware of and pay the price for generating those emissions,” he told an interviewer. As Grist explains, “Oil companies make the case that it’s a demand problem – as long as people are driving cars, and thus demanding fossil fuels, then they have to keep producing the gas.”
Democrats in Congress just issued the results of a 2.5-year investigation that found the oil and gas industry has deceived investors, Congress and the American people in a long covert operation of “deception, disinformation and doublespeak” using “dark money, phony front groups, false economic and relentless exertion of political influence to block climate progress.” These findings warrant an investigation by the Justice Department to determine whether the industry broke any laws, including those against racketeering.
But that’s not likely to happen before the election. It’s up to voters to end this scandal by electing a president, Congress and legislators who support policies like these:
Put a price on carbon, as Europe has done. Its emission trading regime produced a 15.5 percent cut in carbon emissions from polluting industries and power plants last year and a 47 percent reduction since 2005, when emissions trading began. End federal tax subsidies for fossil fuel production. Stop leasing public lands for fossil-energy production and suspend all unused leases. Codify state and national “just transition” plans to end all but the most essential fossil energy production in the United States. As U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin put it, the industry’s greed has led us to a “civilizational emergency,” the threshold of a world where suffocating heat, floods, storm surges, wildfires, drought and rising seas are the norm. And unless we stop Big Oil’s scam, we will cross the threshold with no way back.
William Becker is executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project (PCAP), a nonpartisan initiative founded in 2007 that works with national thought leaders to develop recommendations on national climate and energy policies. He is a former senior official at the U.S. Department of Energy.

2024.05.10 05:16 SeeCrew106 Link dumps debunking some climate denial talking points circulating in /rJoeRogan at the moment.
(A) "Methane is worse. Why even worry about CO₂?"
Because it's both, there's much more CO₂ in the atmosphere and CO₂ lingers far longer than methane.
While methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO₂, there is over 220 times more CO₂ than methane in the atmosphere - as of 2022, 417 ppm as opposed to 1.894 ppm. The amount of warming attributed to methane is calculated to be around 30% of the warming CO₂ contributes. And the atmospheric concentration of both continues to rise (fig. 1).
(...)
Methane should not be underestimated. Once in the atmosphere it has various effects and associated feedbacks that contribute indirectly to warming. Realclimate has an authoritative post detailing some of those, here.
In AR6, the changes in radiative forcing due to methane and other greenhouse gases are presented (fig. 3). The figure shows that while CO₂ is the biggest of our problems, methane is still significant and efforts to reduce its emissions should nevertheless continue to be implemented. But never at the same time let it distract from CO₂. It's not a case of one or the other. They are both big problems requiring different solutions.
https://skepticalscience.com/methane-and-global-warming.htm Both are a significant problem, but CO₂ is still quantitatively more important. Both need to be addressed, and not one or the other. CH₄ has a far shorter atmospheric lifetime than CO₂ - decades versus hundreds of years.
See also
this diagram in the IPCC report.
(B) "CO₂ is plant food"
- https://skepticalscience.com/co2-plant-food-advanced.htm

- https://www.ipcc.ch/srccl/chaptechapter-3/
(C) "It's a fantastic loop the earth has: we produce CO2, plants need it and produce O2 that we need"
Atmospheric CO₂ is increasing because the natural carbon cycle cannot absorb all of the CO₂ we emit and we emit 37 Gt every year.
(D) "It's odd for us to even try to reduce our CO2, especially when China is burning endless fossil fuels"
- Does it matter how much the United States reduces its carbon dioxide emissions if China doesn’t do the same?
- Analysis: Which countries are historically responsible for climate change?
(E) "It's hard to take climate scientists seriously when they don't recommend nuclear power"
False.
When it comes to nuclear power, there is a 20-point gap between AAAS members’ and the general public’s views, with the AAAS community more inclined than the general public to build more nuclear power plants. Fully 65% of AAAS members favor building more nuclear power plants, while 33% are opposed. Those figures are similar to the subsets of AAAS members who are Working Ph.D. Scientists and Active Research Scientists. By contrast, about half of Americans (51%) oppose building more nuclear power plants, while 45% are in favor.
A majority of AAAS members support more nuclear power plants, regardless of disciplinary specialty. Physicists and engineers are more strongly in favor of building more nuclear power plants than are those in other specialties. For example, 79% of all physicists surveyed and 75% of engineers connected with AAAS favor building more nuclear power plants. The views of Earth scientists are similar to those of all members; 66% among this group favor more nuclear power plants and 32% are opposed.
Pew Research Center - Elaborating on the Views of AAAS Scientists, Issue by Issue James Hansen is a very prominent climate scientist promoting nuclear power, to name an example.
(F) "It used to be much warmer"
Crocodiles once swam around at the poles. Just because this was once the case though, that doesn't mean we can afford to all go live there now, just so we don't all die from heat stress. Global warming does have the potential to make certain areas of the planet virtually uninhabitable for human beings which were otherwise habitable before.
Introducing: the wet bulb temperature.

2024.05.07 18:40 Logical_Chemist Had an interview with an AI.
I applied for a Technical Program Manager via careersinfood.com, an aggregate job search engine for food industry. Check it out. Avoid "The Judge Group" staffing firm posts. These asshats sent me and email from VRJamie, a virtual recruiter, asking if I would take 5 mins to complete the interview by phone. Almost instantly, i get a call and it's Virtual Recruiter Jamie. Wtf, I mean seriously. It was as bad as it sounds. "Hello, you have applied for....TeChNiCaL pRoGrAm mAnAgEr..please say your answers after question.

2024.04.29 00:52 PHRateOlympics2024 [200TH RATE] The Popheads 2024 Rate Olympics
Welcome to the
2024 Rate Olympics, hosted by
u/bigbigbee and Jay!
https://preview.redd.it/b5o6mdqstaxc1.png?width=550&format=png&auto=webp&s=4672afb804d32ca9682f09263a644960d1ba359f Thank you to u/thisusernameisntlong for designing part of the Rate Olympics logo! On popheads,
we’ve been holding games called “rates” for a long time - almost eight years, now. Rates are competitions of songs against each other. Therefore, for our milestone
200th rate ever (!!!), we decided that a good way to honor the spirit and history of rates would be to theme this rate after one of the world’s biggest and best competitions: the Olympics!
Over the past three weeks, 40 songs have been selected to compete in this year’s Rate Olympic Games: 20 voted in during the Opening and Closing ceremonies, and 20 personally sent by the winners of a series of minigames played in the
Popheads Discord #rates channel and Daily Discussion thread. The songs eligible for this rate were any previously rated song that has never made the top ten (all Top 10 songs from past rates were discovered to have used performance enhancing drugs 🙁 and therefore were disqualified in the name of fairness and healthy competition).
The final track list is:
- ABBA - Voulez-Vous
- APRIL - Oh! My Mistake
- The Beatles - Penny Lane
- BLACKstreet (ft. Dr. Dre & Queen Pen) - No Diggity
- Brandy - When You Touch Me
- Britney Spears - Womanizer
- Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever
- Charli XCX - Claws
- Charly Bliss - Percolator
- CHVRCHES - Asking for a Friend
- City Girls - Act Up
- Death Grips - I've Seen Footage
- Fall Out Boy (ft. Courtney Love) - Rat A Tat
- Flo Milli - Beef Flomix
- George Michael - Freedom! 90
- Girls' Generation - I Got a Boy
- The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
- Jamie xx - Loud Places
- Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity
- Jay Sean - Down
- Jolin Tsai - Honey Trap (美人計)
- Kendrick Lamar (ft. Jay Rock) - Money Trees
- Kesha - Take It Off
- Kid Cudi (ft. MGMT & Ratatat) - Pursuit of Happiness
- Lady Gaga - Judas
- LOONA - LOONATIC
- Mariah Carey (ft. Ol' Dirty Bastard) - Fantasy
- MARINA - How to Be a Heartbreaker
- MARINA - Bubblegum Bitch
- Mark Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu & Chorus [Lilo & Stitch] - Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride
- Mitski - Washing Machine Heart
- Owl City - Fireflies
- Porter Robinson & Madeon - Shelter
- Post Malone (ft. 21 Savage) - Rockstar
- Slayyyter - Daddy AF
- Taylor Swift - Begin Again
- Ted Poley & Tony Harnell [Sonic Adventure 2] - Escape from the City
- The Veronicas - Untouched
- The Weeknd - Secrets
- Wolf Alice - Play the Greatest Hits
The Rules (What is a Rate?)
Here is how rating works. For a general overview, please watch
this video!
- You must listen to and assign a score to EVERY song in the rate. Ballots with missing scores will not be accepted.
- Your scores must be on a scale from 1 to 10 and can include one decimal place but no more. 6.4 is fine. 6.44 is not.
- HOWEVER: You may give one song in the main rate a score of 11, and one song a score of 0, for your favorite and least favorite song respectively. These are optional but encouraged if you feel strongly about a song.
- Please submit your scores using the format in the prepared submission link below. This makes it infinitely easier for us to record your scores in the rate machine program. You can obviously edit your ballot elsewhere (Word, Google Sheets, etc) but keep this format.
- Comments are encouraged and appreciated! (but not required) Comments can be added to any song by simply typing after your score, like so:
Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity: 10 the real insanity was that this didnt win its original rate
This is the ONLY correct way to write a comment. Any other format, such as the below, will break the rate machine program, and will get your ballot rejected until it’s fixed.
Porter Robinson & Madeon - Shelter: 10: I love anime ❌
If you want to change scores or add comments after sending your ballot, feel free to send a message to this account or to
u/bigbigbee. Additionally, both hosts are active on the
Popheads Discord, so if you have Discord you can message us at @you.lose or @bigbigbee. The server's #rates channel is a blast, very welcoming, and always filled with great music discussion - come join us!

2024.04.27 01:23 TragicKingdom1 A Rater Double Header - Rate Olympics Closing Ceremony and Payola Slot Vote
Greetings raters! The next month is going to be crazy eventful for rates so I thought I would combine both of these posts of interest into one to save a pin slot and hopefully get more votes for both.
The inaugural Popheads Rate Olympics has been a rousing success thus far, with our Opening Ceremony vote and the ten days of games in our Discord server having concluded yesterday. All in all, thirty songs have already earned their way in; the tl;dr of what we have to accomplish today is to round out our rate with a final ten songs.
In case you missed it in our Discord server, the songs currently in the rate are:
- April - Oh! My Mistake
- Blackstreet - No Diggity
- Brandy - When You Touch Me
- Britney Spears - Womanizer (voted in)
- Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever
- Charli XCX - Claws (voted in)
- Charly Bliss - Percolator
- City Girls - Act Up
- Death Grips - I've Seen Footage (voted in)
- Fall Out Boy - Rat a Tat
- George Michael - Freedom! '90
- Girls' Generation - I Got a Boy
- Goo Goo Dolls - Iris (voted in)
- Jamie xx - Loud Places (voted in)
- Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity
- Jay Sean - Down (voted in)
- Joli Tsai - Honey Trap
- Kendrick Lamar - Money Trees
- Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness
- Lady Gaga - Judas (voted in)
- Lilo & Stitch - Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride
- Mariah Carey - Fantasy Remix
- Marina - How to be a Heartbreaker
- Mitski - Washing Machine Heart (voted in)
- Owl City - Fireflies (voted in)
- Porter Robinson & Madeon - Shelter (voted in)
- Post Malone - Rockstar
- Taylor Swift - Begin Again
- The Beatles - Penny Lane
- The Weeknd - Secrets
The ones I marked as (voted in) are important, because those artists cannot have duplicate songs voted in; however, there can be duplicates from artists that only have songs in from game winners. Thankfully, TiltControls has updated the eligibility list for us. Otherwise, the rules of this vote are the same as last time; you can vote for ten songs, and the ten songs with the most votes will earn their spot in the rate. However, there is one added twist to help you all vote strategically: below is the list of songs that came closest to getting into the rate in the previous vote. They have no other advantage in this vote, but if you want to avoid voting blindly, some combo of these would be the picks.
- ABBA - Lay All Your Love On Me
- ABBA - Voulez-Vous
- Addison Rae - Nothing On (But the Radio)
- Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman
- Beyoncé - Blow
- Billie Eilish - Ocean Eyes
- Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss
- Chloe x Halle - Tipsy
- Christina Aguilera - Your Body
- CHVRCHES - Asking for a Friend
- CHVRCHES - Final Girl
- Daft Punk - Giorgio By Moroder
- Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts
- Flo Milli - Beef FloMix
- Hilary Duff - Come Clean
- Jai Paul - BTSTU
- Kesha - Take It Off
- Kylie Minogue - Supernova
- LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends
- LOONA - LOONATIC
- Lorde - A World Alone
- Lorde - Hard Feelings / Loveless
- Mariah Carey - Obsessed
- Marina - Bubblegum Bitch
- Mon Laferte - Tu Falta De Querer
- Rina Sawayama - 10-20-40
- Shygirl - Freak
- Slayyyter - Daddy AF
- Sonic the Hedgehog - Escape from the City
- The Veronicas - Untouched
- The Weeknd - After Hours
- Tinashe - Superlove
- Wolf Alice - Play the Greatest Hits
Our other topic of the day is the much beloved Payola Slot, an underrepresented category of rate that we guarantee placement in our next rate selection cycle (which will kick off in full sometime in the second week of May.) The vote here will require you to rank each of these categories from most (1) to least (4) preferred to get payola'd into the next cycle. When the submission form opens, people will be able to submit their ideas that fall under this category, and one will be guaranteed to be selected. The categories to choose from this cycle are:
Commercial Male Hip Hop (last rate: April 2018)
- This category aims to highlight the primary hitmakers of hip hop from its inception in the 1980s to the present. Our previous hip hop rates have primarily been in one of two categories: women, or rappers with more critical acclaim than impact on the charts (Tyler the Creator, Brockhampton, etc.) These biases have kept us away from some all time classics of the genre and created a major blindspot, especially now that hiphopheads is on hiatus from doing rates.
- Example unrated albums: NWA - Straight Outta Compton, Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt, 50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin', A$AP Rocky - Long.Live.A$AP
Dad Rock (last rate: August 2019)
- Our visits to pre-21st century popular music have largely focused on specific, gay-pop-fan-approved niches like disco, new wave or commercially successful women. But that leaves plenty of untapped wells, primarily in the realm of "dad rock" that you'd hear on oldies AM radio or see get inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame: moments like easy listening, yacht rock, and even hair metal. This category is purposefully broad, but any rate from the 90s or earlier with appeal to the heterosexual masses and at least one male vocalist would most likely suffice.
- Example unrated albums: Big Brother & The Holding Company - Cheap Thrills, The Eagles - Hotel California, Paul Simon - Graceland, Green Day - Dookie
Music from Western Media Other than Disney (last rate: October 2018)
- We've done a really good job feeding the Japanese media fans with our anime and video game rates, but our most recent forays into western media soundtracks have involved Disney in some capacity (their animated films, or their Disney Channel films/TV shows). This category aims to cover any music from any Western media industry: film, TV, theater, podcasts maybe? There is plenty to choose from here, but it has been a long time since anyone constructed a rate idea popular enough to be chosen without the all-unifying Mouse.
- Example unrated albums: Soundtracks to Hamilton, Barbie, Succession, Minecraft
Overlooked Regional Scenes (last rate: February 2017)
- This category covers popular music local to a particular region that gets minimal coverage on the subreddit. Although the category is not limited to country lines, that is probably your best starting point; think of the long writeups we get sometimes about the superstars of the Philippines or Romania or something that nobody from outside those countries knows.
- Example unrated albums: Arkells - Rally Cry, Aya Nakamura - Aya, Peso Pluma - Génesis, WizKid - Made In Lagos
HERE is the link to the form that covers both of the above votes. Due at noon EST on Sunday, April 28th, so less than 48 hours from now!

2024.04.21 22:42 PorcelainDalmatian Are Democrats Finally Coming Around To the Fact That RFK Jr Is An Enormous Gift?
For months now I’ve been posting on this board, to much consternation and ridicule, that RFK Jr’s candidacy is a huge gift to the Democrats, and they should be promoting the hell out of him. Finally, it seems like at least some people are coming around to this reality. Voices as desperate as
Sarah Longwell, Josh Barro,
Marc Caputo,
Adam Kinzinger,
James Carville and
Astead Herdon have all all started to embrace it to varying degrees, and polls are finally starting to bear it out as well. Some prominent Conservatives are starting to turn on him as well, because even
they get it.
The narrative that RFK will pull more from Biden than Trump has always been absurd on its face. It’s like saying that an AOC candidacy would pull more from Trump than Biden. When you stand back and think about it, it defies logic. This entire false narrative is based on a single set of polls taken almost a full year before the election, in which RFK was the only third party option for grumpy, disaffected , “third party curious” voters to choose. They didn’t know Robert Kennedy from TV funnyman Jamie Kennedy from ‘70s super-hunk George Kennedy. They just saw a 3rd party box and checked it. Yet this false narrative soon cemented itself amongst the punditocracy. Thankfully it’s beginning to crumble, brick by brick.
Over the last few months, those same disaffected voters hungry for a third party option have slowly been getting to know RFK. As I predicted, two distinct trends are emerging:
- RFK is losing support. His overall support started at 19% a few moths ago, but as people have discovered that he’s nuttier than a squirrel turd, he’s down to 8% (and dropping).
- As people get to know RFK and what he stands for, he’s starting to pull more Trump supporters than Biden supporters. In fact, an NBC News poll released just today shows him ensuring a Biden victory!
Why? Because despite his famous last name, RFK Jr. is practically Trump’s mini-me. There’s a reason Trump
asked him to be his running mate. History shows that most “third party curious” voters lean towards one of the major parties, and the vast majority return to that party by election day, rather than throw their vote away. Suppose I’m an anti-vax lunatic
who thinks COVID was a hoax/conspiracy,
vaccines cause autism,
the January 6th rioters are “political prisoners,” chemicals in the water are turning kids trans,
Texas should supersede Federal authority at the border,
“Big Tech” is conspiring to censor Conservatives, and the US government is actually run by a secret cabal called
“The Deep State.” I’m angry at Trump for the vaccine and the COVID lockdowns so I’m open to a third party. In a two-person race, I still come home to Trump. In a three-person race, my vote goes to RFK. He could literally peel away millions of Trump votes,
as long as people get to know who he really is. The Democrats need to make that a major goal, up to and including actively promoting him by micro targeting traditionally pro-Trump, anti-vax circles.
RFK also has a unique appeal to the Joe Rogan/Elon Musk/Alex Jones/Jordan Peterson/ pseudo-libertarian/wannabe intellectual/dark web/crypto/blockchain/ dude-bro idiots who sit around all day playing video games while convincing themselves they’re brilliant. He routinely goes on their shows to fawning adoration.
Here’s a pic of him with Peterson and resident tubtard Dr. Phil just last week. In a two man race, those guys
all return to Trump. Now they’ve got an option.
If you’re still skeptical you might want to check out the myriad
articles in which hard news reporters go to RFK events. They always show up with the conventional narrative firmly implanted, expecting to find nothing but disaffected Democrats. Instead, they’re surprised to find……..former Trump voters! Tons of them. It always shocks them. In their typical effort to “both sides” everything they’ll always find one or two former Dems to interview, but the crowd is always overwhelmingly Trumpkin.
If you still doubt me, do yourself a favor and sign up for RFK Jr’s email list. I didn’t, but somehow I got on it (maybe by mentioning him on Twitter?) so now I get his daily emails. They’re virtually indistinguishable from Trump campaign emails. Without the logo at the top I wouldn’t be able to discern who sent them. Anti-Biden? Check. Anti-vax? Check. COVID conspiracies? Check. Deep State? Check. Big Tech Censorship? Check. Border panic? Check. The one thing that’s always missing? Any criticism of Trump. RFK knows who his voters are.
The Democrats desperately need to shake off this false narrative and understand the enormous gift they’ve been given in RFK, Jr. At his heart he’s a nutball conspiracy theorist, and a uniquely Trumpkin one at that. He appeals to Trump’s lunatic fringe and is their best hope to eek this one out. Get on it, Dems.
(NOTE: Before you all go nuts in the comments, yes I know there is a small cadre of Lulu Lemon yoga pants wearing, crunchy granola, vaccine skeptic, ditzy, rich soccer moms in Marin County that will vote for Kennedy, but they are nowhere near the majority of his voters. Also, please don’t bother to comment until you’ve read the myriad links contained in this post and have done a deep-dive into RFK’s positions/promotional material.) submitted by

2024.04.18 17:16 welp007 Today’s Financial System is “Dangerously Unstable”. The only lasting and meaningful way to reform the Wall Street megabanks is to restore the Glass-Steagall Act via Congressional legislation and permanently separate federally-insured banks from the trading casinos on Wall Street.
| By Pam Martens and Russ Martens: April 18, 2024 ~ George Washington University Law Professor, Arthur Wilmarth, has done it again. After authoring the seminal book on the insidious evolution and enormous dangers still posed by the Wall Street megabanks (Taming the Megabanks: Why We Need a New Glass-Steagall Act) Wilmarth is now out with a new, gripping paper. In the paper’s abstract, Wilmarth explains how the risks posed by the Wall Street megabanks in 2008 have become exponentially more dangerous today. He writes: “The dangers created by universal banks (including their ‘internal’ shadow banking affiliates) and ‘external’ shadow banks have intensified since 2009. A toxic symbiosis has developed between the syndication and underwriting of risky loans and debt securities by universal banks and the origination of speculative private credit by ‘external’ shadow banks. That noxious partnership has helped to generate unprecedented levels of risky consumer and corporate debts. “Universal banks and shadow banks have created dangerously unstable financial markets that depend on frequent bailouts from central banks and other government agencies. Four serious financial disruptions since the GFC [Global Financial Crisis] have triggered significant government interventions and bailouts—the repo crisis of 2019, the pandemic financial crisis of 2020–21, the failures of three U.S. regional banks in 2023, and the collapse of Credit Suisse. Those episodes demonstrate that universal banks and shadow banks pose massive and unacceptable threats to our financial system, economy, and society.” Wilmarth’s paper expands on the groundbreaking work of Patrick Corrigan, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame Law School, who last August did a deep dive into the shadow banks that exist off-balance sheet in the form of Variable Interest Entities (VIEs) at the largest Wall Street megabanks (a/k/a universal banks). Corrigan documents the key role these shadow banks/VIEs played in the financial crisis of 2007-2010. Wilmarth explains the breakthroughs in Corrigan’s research as follows: “…Professor Corrigan shows that universal banks used off-balance-sheet VIEs [Variable Interest Entities] to evade rules governing bank capital, bank affiliates, and investment companies. The Basel Capital Accords and implementing rules adopted by U.S. regulators ‘allowed banks to reduce their capital requirements either by moving their loans (through securitization) to off-balance sheet conduits or by obtaining financial guarantees from AAA- or AA-rated companies’— such as AIG, Ambac, and MBIA. The most extreme example of such arbitrage occurred when federal regulators allowed universal banks to reduce their risk-based capital requirements by 90% if they transferred RMBS [Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities] or CDOs [Collateralized Debt Obligations] to off-balance-sheet conduits that were backed by short-term guarantees (liquidity puts) from banks. “Professor Corrigan makes a new and important contribution to the securitization literature by showing that the Federal Reserve Board (Fed) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) exempted off-balance-sheet securitization conduits from regulation either as affiliates of the sponsoring banks or as investment companies. An informal exemption granted by the Fed and a 1992 rule issued by the SEC allowed bank sponsored VIEs to escape a host of regulations governing bank affiliates and investment companies—including capital rules, restrictions on affiliate transactions and investments, prudential supervisory standards, and special receivership proceedings. By allowing securitization VIEs ‘to avoid virtually all of the rules that apply to bank affiliates and investment companies,’ the Fed and the SEC ‘exacerbated distress as the 2007–2009 financial crisis unfolded.’ ” The poster child for off-balance sheet hubris before, during and after the 2008 financial crisis was the megabank, Citigroup. The official report from the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission provides these shocking details: “…More than other banks, Citigroup held assets off of its balance sheet, in part to hold down capital requirements. In 2007, even after bringing $80 billion worth of assets on balance sheet, substantial assets remained off. If those had been included, leverage in 2007 would have been 48:1, or about 53% higher….” For our as-it-happened reporting on the collapse of Citigroup in 2008, see The Rise and Fall of Citigroup. By March of 2009, Citigroup was a 99-cent stock. What is lurking in the form of off-balance sheet VIEs today at some of the megabanks on Wall Street is just as opaque and dangerous (if not more so) than it was in 2008. JPMorgan Chase’s 10-K (Annual Report) filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (page 202) shows it has $1.498 trillion in off-balance sheet exposures as of year-end 2023. This is the same bank whose Chairman and CEO, Jamie Dimon, is bullying his regulators to drop their demand that his bank hold 25 percent more capital. Where Corrigan and Wilmarth part paths in their latest papers is how to reform these off-balance sheet risks to the U.S. financial system. Corrigan proposes rule changes while Wilmarth sticks to his book’s well-documented case that the only lasting and meaningful way to reform the Wall Street megabanks is to restore the Glass-Steagall Act via Congressional legislation and permanently separate federally-insured banks from the trading casinos on Wall Street. Given the corrupt revolving door between Wall Street and its regulators, and Wall Street’s long-held attitude that “it’s legal if you can get away with it,” clearly Wilmarth has the only workable reform idea. submitted by welp007 to Superstonk [link] [comments] |
2024.04.18 16:26 Patient-Peace High School Biology, Physics, Geometry resources
Sharing in case this is helpful to anyone else in their planning. I've always loved looking at the plans and lessons of those who have gone before in so many beautiful ways, and pulling ideas. I'm currently planning for son's Ninth Grade year, and these are some things I have bookmarked and am leafing through in the process of jotting down our lesson plans.
We're going to be using a combo of Prentice Hall's Dragonfly Biology book, paired with the latest Campbell's AP Biology text (the 12th edition) for deeper diving (and cross-checking for up to date info, in case of discrepancy in the older Dragonfly book. We chose the Dragonfly version because we collectively loved it the most out of the texts we looked at, and it has lots of available resources).
And for Physics we're using Glencoe’s Principles and Problems coupled with various added in books and resources.
For math, son’ll be in Geometry, and we're pulling in Making Math Meaningful for extra fun along with continuing with Math U See, AoPS, and Ray's.
Here's a running list of where I'm gathering ideas from, in case anyone else is on the hunt in these areas 🙂:
