2024.05.14 18:57 basil_kel Demon Prince is impossible and I hate this game

I'm level 97, using a Claymore+10, and I've already done everything else in the game up to this point. Why am I barely damaging him at all? Why is he one-shotting me? Why does a gank boss fight that already goes on too long have a second phase?
Am I missing something? Is this a gimmick fight that I missed the gimmick for? I can't even get Demon Prince down to a 3/4ths of his health, His attacks are visually disorienting, seem to negate my i-frames and deal wayy too much damage, the laser attack seems to be an insta-kill.
Tried using the summon, which just about makes the first phase tolerable but doesn't really contribute anything to the second, and I'm just gonna run out of embers if I keep using the summon just to get through the first phase, so that's not even an option anymore!
Surely I'm missing something? I read online he's weak to electricity but I tried it and didn't notice any damage difference at all. Is there something else I'm supposed to be doing?

2024.05.14 18:57 apsu_nereid Creating Video Game Events

I live in a rural area, and my son is often interested in gaming events that unfortunately too far away for us to attend regularly. However, I don’t want that to stop him from participating in his hobby and making new connections.
I want to create a recurring local event so he can meet new friends and be more active in his community. Has anyone in this group done anything like that who can offer suggestions? Any resources or recommendations are welcome.
Thanks!

2024.05.14 18:54 UnderstandingAble279 24M Looking to make some new friends in the Tokyo area.

Pretty much just what the title says, I’ve been staying in the city with a few friends for a little while now (originally from the US) and we’ve already started making plans to come back. I’ve lived in cities all my life, but there’s nothing I can really compare to the time I’ve spent here and I plan on spending a lot more in the future. I’m not looking for anyone to meet up with or anything like that, I just think it would be cool to connect with some people in the area.
I’m currently a student working on two degrees, as well as starting my own business. I enjoy learning (and teaching), gaming, going out (even if it’s just wandering around alone aimlessly) and just a little bit of everything.
If you’re bored, feel free to respond to this post or shoot me a message. English or not, I’ll do my best respond. I look forward to talking!

2024.05.14 18:54 GingeryBeard Doubles army list rules

My friends and I have been playing a ton of doubles and when making armies one player on the team would have a warband of Fangorn units and another warband of Lothlorien units while the other player in team had a warband of Rohan units and a warband of Lothlorien units. We used 400 points each.
But today we noticed in the rules of the matched played guide it said "A force must be from a single Army List, and so may not contain any models from a different Army List. However, one force may be from a different Army List to the other".
Have we played it wrong? Should I interpret it as one teammate may only have Rohan warbands and the other player only Lothlorien warbands for example? Like a player can't have different types of warbands?

2024.05.14 18:47 PalpatineFeet Real Armies patches?

Hey everyone! I recently just found the real armies mod, and I love what it does for the civil war questlines. Now I actually feel excited to get into those battles! The only problem is that it has a ton of incompatibilities with some mods that I have, but it looks like the majority have patches on Nexus that were never transferred with the mod. Are there any plans to add these as well?

New box turtle enclosure
I made an outdoor enclosure or an eastern box turtle I rescued yesterday. I plan on doing an expansion of the enclosure, as well as doing more predator proofing and making hides/shaded areas. Does anyone have any cost-effective suggestions on ways I can prevent predators? Also, how long can it take for a box turtle to come around to eating a mash of pellets, veggies and assorted protein sources?
Here he is, enjoying the weather.
In case anyone is wondering, that is clean ink free cardboard sheet pulled off of a compost pile, isopods and snails love it, and I assumed he would love the shade and food it provides.

2024.05.14 18:38 ChrisCrossAppleSauc3 How to Fix Hydra Clash

My favorite content in Raid is Hydra. It’s difficult yet rewarding and involves a ton of theorycrafting. But the number one complaint regarding Hydra is that clash is so volatile and becomes unbalanced due to the presence of teams that can abuse mechanics. Things like Trunda, the old cadaver team, now the Yannica teams. These teams invalidate what I consider an honest team to be. It doesn’t matter how good your theorycrafted team is, it will never compete against a trunda team.
So how do we fix this without pissing off the people who invested in those teams while also accommodating everyone else? My thought is simple, create a cap on how many points can be scored for each difficulty and also create different Clash tiers just like how CvC has 6 tiers. Each higher tier will result in higher caps.
Let’s just use some hypothetical numbers. Of course these should be thought about in detail for the tiers and caps, but this should give some insight.
First let’s look at the point caps. let’s say for one of the tiers Hard Hydra has a point cap of 4B damage. Regardless how much damage you do, you can never score higher than 4B on your hard hydra run (unless your clan moves to the next tier). This does two things. First, it allows people who have trunda teams to still use them. But more importantly it makes them still relevant. A big part of this game is speeding up content as you progress. So if you have a Trunda team and the hard hydra cap is 4B at your clan tier then you may hit that cap at the 20 minute mark. So you can end your run early and you saved time, which is massively valuable.
You still benefit from having the Trunda team but other people can still compete with other teams. They’ll either do less damage but the gap isn’t as large. Or they’ll hit the damage cap but it may take them an hour and a half run to do so.
Then if your clan averages a certain damage output over X Amount of clashes you can go up or down a tier depending. Which the new tier would have adjusted damage caps. This means Trunda teams can continue to be relevant without making every other team useless. Having the tiers also helps to really ensure proper matchups and if a new bug is discovered that throws balance off (Togron comp for example) it won’t single handedly ruin a clash for everyone and result in a few people solo carrying.
TLDR: introduce different tiers in Clash that have damage caps for their respective difficulties. This keeps clash more competitive and close without invalidating the existing teams that outclass everything else.

2024.05.14 18:37 Pikdude Tetra Doom and Gloom

My Crusade group has just gotten around to absorbing all the new Tau rules after a brief break. My Tau player, and a couple other off-Tau players, are convinced that losing the rerolls provided by Tetras somehow cripples the Tau as a shooting army and that you now either have to play Kroot or suffer. My main Tau player is battle suit centric and is pretty upset to have lost some of those to legends. Despite running this crusade, I don’t know much about the Tau, so I come here for your collective wisdom about the state of the Tau post codex and if there’s any merit to what’s being bandied around my group. Thanks!

2024.05.14 18:36 Royal_Youth5274 Seeking Advice for Major Life-Changing Decision: Balancing Love, Career, and Family

Hello everyone, it's great to virtually meet you all. I'd truly appreciate your insights, especially from those who have navigated similar situations or know someone who has.
I (34M) recently found the love of my life (31F), and we've been together for over a year and a half. We're at the point of considering marriage, but recent challenges have made me reflect deeply on the path ahead. She's an Army Officer currently pursuing a medical degree, while I work in the civilian sector for the Army. I also run my own business, am launching another venture, and have additional passive income streams.
Here's where things get complex: she has a decade of military service left before transitioning to civilian life as a doctor, which means several more relocations (PCS) lie ahead. Meanwhile, I'm committed to supporting her journey, even if it means maintaining a long-distance relationship until she completes her studies and settles into her first post-doctorate assignment.
However, the question of children adds another layer of complexity. My three daughters, aged 11, 9, and 7, are central to my life, and I'm determined to ensure their well-being and happiness through this transition. While I'm open to career changes and have a diverse background in law enforcement and other fields, I want to make decisions that prioritize both my relationship with my partner and my role as a father.
I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences on navigating similar challenges while striving to maintain a fulfilling family life. Thank you for your insights and support.

2024.05.14 18:36 starryeyedq The Themes of The Boys

As we get into the new season, I just thought it would be fun to track and discuss the themes and motifs this show has kept up throughout the seasons so far so we can see how they play out in Season 4:)
NOTE: I have not read many spoilers. I don't mind if they come into the discussion, but please mark with a tag for anyone who doesn't want to see them!
Honestly, when I really laid all these out, it made me appreciate the writing so much more, even in moments I didn't really care for the first time around.
Plus analyzing stuff like this is fun for super cool people. Join me!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This is probably the main theme of the series and the thing that becomes the biggest downfall for all our protagonists. "Saving Someone" has now become something that puts the viewer on edge.
How many times has a character exclaimed "I'm trying to save you," when actually all they're doing is trying to serve their own selfish agenda and alleviate their own guilt or affirm their image of themselves?
I could seriously write a whole essay about this and how it ties to the idea of What it Means to Be a Hero. But feel free to discuss it more in the comments.
The Boys is constantly exploring how Vought and The Boys bend the truth to serve their own agenda and are constantly asserting that the definition of truth typically belongs to whoever has the power (Power being another big motif).
Justice vs. Vengeance is also a big one that keeps coming up. Starlight is arguably the only character who is earnestly pursuing true justice on this show and tbh, it cramps everyone's style. MM and Hughie also great characters to follow for this because they are both genuinely trying to do the right thing and are often seduced by Butcher's much more attractive Vengeance call.
This is another one that could turn into a whole essay and one that I'd probably have to go back and take more notes to explore. But I think it really ties into this idea of Power and Responsibility. Because isn't that the cornerstone of what it means to be a parent?
Children are seen by society as the ultimate innocents who must be protected at all costs, but they are so often abused and exploited by the people who are supposed to protect them - Even when it's unintentional. Parents so often see children as extensions of themselves rather than individuals. Simply tools to affirm their own existence or be mirrors of themselves (which ties into the whole selfish "I'm trying to save you" theme).
We see this explored with Ryan a lot, but this was beautifully culminated at the end of S3 when MM realizes he needs to be honest with his daughter about what he's been going through, not to justify his mistakes, but to show her respect and acknowledgement of a two-way relationship.
Oh man. This is another one that's like... A whole ass paper.
Super powers are definitely a vehicle to explore societal power with woman and POC on this show and the daunting idea that even with superpowers or wealth, race and gender can still be used as kryptonite.
We see it touched on in the ongoing discussions of how to properly "play the game" and achieve real power.
We see the Power and Women explored pretty in depth in Season 2, but Ashley is a really awesome ongoing exploration of this theme through a gender lens as she rises to power at Vought.
A Train and Noir are an obvious example of this exploration through a racial lens, but it's definitely also been touched on through pretty much every character of color on this show. I think they really got into it in a really interesting way on Gen V as well, but I don't want to bog this down any harder.
Just making sure everyone is on the same page - Toxic Masculinity does NOT mean that masculinity is inherently toxic. It is meant to focus on the unhealthy presentations and expectations of performing the role of "being a man."
Toxic Masculinity really became the focus of Season 3. We see that most clearly in the character of Soldier Boy (though I do worry that due to Jensen Ackles natural charisma, it didn't quite achieve the impact the writers intended), but also in Hughie.
Although many people (including me) felt like it was a disappointing step back for Hughie, I'm actually leaning back the other way on the rewatch. I think that the feeling powerless (which is something we feel as ordinary citizens all the time) moment Hughie had when he realized all the work he did with Neuman was built on a lie probably threw a lot out of whack. It makes perfect sense that the comments about his vulnerability and softness might start hitting a little differently than they used to.
Frenchie and MM on the other hand, are great examples of characters of healthy masculinity in their willingness to share power, be vulnerable, and self reflect so that they are able to support the interests of their loved ones.
This is the final theme I'll mention because it's a big one and I think it's going to be important in the upcoming season. Where does real power come from? Money? Strength? Social influence? Knowledge? Relationships?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Okay I'm tired of typing and it's likely that only four people will comment on this if I'm lucky.
I hope you enjoy discussing (feel free to add your own big themes if I missed any) and I hope that being aware of these themes make the upcoming season more fun to watch.

2024.05.14 18:35 Mark_Alpha_JDS Emigration Questions ($, Employer, Logistics) (UK -> US)

I’ve been blown away by the level of responsiveness and expertise from Redditors for a few related topics which have been a huge help to me. Thanks in advance for any feedback here and I hope I’m in the right place!
I’m in a level of ‘negotiation’ with my Employer (a global Tech company) about a relocation from Southend, SE England to either Alpharetta or Tampa as part of a promotion within my existing Team on what is expected to be a ‘3 year gig’ (at which point the company is expected to be sold which would inevitably see changes of personnel almost certainly those who I am currently ‘negotiating’ with!). Naturally there are a million and one things to consider, especially as a (married) father of two young children.
As I await more formal details of the offer (including the $!), I am trying to speed through all the various research needed which I am simplifying into the below, in order to make negotiations effective and ultimately lead up to a point where I will be able to make an actual decision (likely in the next two weeks)
  1. Understanding the ancillary costs associated with relocating to the US as well as the expected on-going living costs in either location (to also include the likely requirement to relocate BACK in ~3 years time)
  2. Understanding which of the many risks associated with this opportunity I should attempt to have mitigated by my Employer
  3. Understanding any fundamental blockers/showstoppers that could prevent the move from being viable
I’m starting to build up a picture across all three but there were some specific questions I’d really appreciate some insights on. We’re mostly concerned about the number of ‘hidden’ costs there may be, to the extent where the financial gains we are expecting could end up being significantly diminished by the end of the 3 year period (our main objective here is primarily to financial gain – to ideally outright purchase a large family house back in the UK after 3 years and not primarily the ‘experience’ for our family, which we would of course consider a bonus).
Entirely personal, but also wondering on recommendations for Alpharetta vs Tampa? It would seem cost of living would be comparable (of course, dependent on neighbourhood) with the major differences being probably differences in climate, and I suspect Tampa would be generally much busier, perhaps less safe? For a reasonable 3 bed house it seems around $3K rent per month is the norm, with Alpharetta prices seemingly due to proximity to the tech hubs and Tampa due to the pull of the beaches, climate?
My Wife and I are very excited about the prospect, just trying to be as cautious as possible especially given this will be likely to move quickly!
Many thanks in advance
Mark

2024.05.14 18:34 Abject-Sample7066 26 M, I want to start dating but I have no friends, what should I do?

M, I'm about to turn 26 in a couple of weeks. After a hard few years battling anxiety and depression, my life is finally going well. I got a well paying job. I just bought my first car. I haven't had friends in a long time (over 3 years now), as I lost contact with them. They all moved away due to work and stuff. I'm trying to get into new hobbies. I'm thinking about joining a Mixed Martial Club, I use to do it along time ago and want to get back into it now that I can afford a membership lol. I've also gotten into astronomy. At this age though it can be really hard to make new friends but I'm trying my best. It's even harder to meet girls unless it's from an app. I matched with many girls on Hinge but one stood out and I want to talk to her but I don't know what she'll think of someone with no friends. She clearly seems really popular. Also I've never been in a relationship.

2024.05.14 18:34 SaltyMushrooms21 sorcerer staffs ranked

I just started DS3 and I barely picked up the heretic staff. I'm making a strength intelligence build as that works for my style of play. Like DS1 and DS2 by the end of the game both strength and intelligence stats should be around 35. What staff would you veterans consider for someone who's intelligence will be most likely around 35 by the end of the game. I don't want to upgrade the heretic staff if there is a better staff out there.

2024.05.14 18:33 worldrapper Iron Warriors List advice

New Player Seeking Help with Iron Warriors Army List
Hi everyone,
I'm new to Warhammer 40k only been collecting aos of 40k without playing and is excited to dive into the tabletop with a friend. We've decided to start playing games together, and I've chosen to pilot the Iron Warriors faction. However, I'm a bit overwhelmed with the army-building aspect and could really use some guidance.
My friend will be playing as Black Templars, and we're aiming for fun and balanced games. I've already made a draft for a list without knowing if any of it is good and have only used the rule of cool and Google videos to make it. Here's what I have so far:
**Draft Army List:**
***HQ***
***Troops***
***Elites***
***Heavy Support***
***Dedicated Transport***
I'm not sure if any of these choices are optimal, and I'm concerned about the overall balance of the list. I've mainly focused on the rule of cool and used Google videos for inspiration.
Some specific questions I have:
I'm open to any advice, suggestions, or critiques you may have. I really appreciate any help you can offer as I embark on this new tabletop journey!

2024.05.14 18:32 PitaLaxanikwn I am out for good, there is nothing time can’t heal

My ex and I have broken up last month he was non stop threatening me he will kill me and my family , at this point I had stopped believing him so much but yet again I wanted to be calm and stress free. So one day he emailed me he is under my house and he left a note about me being a whore etc, I straight away let the police now about it and they caught him. He spent 2 days in jail and we had a trail 7 days later. In the meantime he left the country. The decision of the trial was 2 years in prison without parole. He left so he is never going to go to prison or anything which was a bit annoying in the beginning feeling he will never get what he should and I am going to be the villain in this story but I am doing all the healing with all of those feelings.
I was lost in the darkness for so long and now I am myself again. I am the light whenever I go and I love myself and life more than ever. Idk if I am delusional and I am in my own bumble but I am enjoying where I am even if my life in a superficial level is worse than being with him.
I am sending love to everyone and I writing that to let myself know that I am free now from him.
My mind some times play some games and he show up in my nightmares making me feel I miss him but I know I am better than before and my glow came back after a long time

Anyone else just think this is objectively a bad take? A first playthrough blind makes the discovery so much more fun, and the lack of a map just reinforces the oppressive feeling of being lost in Yharnam. 2024.05.14 18:32 refugeeofstardew How to defeat the heart with Silent? A15 but 0 heart wins even on lower Ascensions.

Weirdly, Silent is my favorite character and one I feel I have the best draws with. I’m up to A15 with her. But have never beaten the heart.
I have beaten the heart a few times with Defect (focus and orb slots make this fairly easy honestly), beaten it once with Ironclad once (only thanks to Snecko), but I have never done it with Sulent. Despite it being my highest ascension character, and me trying with A5 (think I read that’s the “intended difficulty” for the game and the heart).
My issue comes with block generation, which admittedly maybe is just down to RNG from relics? I tend to coast through Silent runs with shiv builds and obviously you can see where the problem comes with at the heart. Spamming 10-20 shivs a round just depletes whatever block I manage to generate
TLDR: I know that poison builds are usually the easier build for silent but I struggle with those, and even still, how am I meant to be generating enough block? And how am I meant to be getting enough block from a Shiv build?

2024.05.14 18:27 Latirae Local Organisation/Holy Order dev stacking trick still alive and well

With the addition of new state-level modifiers this is a reminder that you can still change in and out of the requirements for the local organisation to stack development in your states by repeatedly placing them anew. This is also explained here and by others before.
With Winds of Change you can now change your goverment to "Serbian Despotate", give all provinces on each state +1 military development with the "Order of the Dragon", change to government to something else back and repeat after one month. The advantage is that the development cost is always a flat 50 military mana for each state, independent of development cost modifiers and available right from the start (as long as you control the whole state).
The most effective way to scale this development stacking game is to play as a nation with andalusian culture and a ratio of 50% muslim provinces and 50% christian (by development). Place the Holy Order, change your religion by accepting christian rebels and make a new (now christian) Holy Order, change back to Muslim for free (and get +1 stability and a relation boost) by having a muslim capital and repeat. As long as you curtail the church, you only suffer prestige hits for arguably the best way to play tall.
