I'd like to preface this post by saying that I'm a practicing Catholic who has been hurt by this teaching and is struggling to make any sense of it. This post is also geared towards women's experiences of Church doctrine. While men can empathize, they will never be able to fully understand the experience of women in relation to pregnancy. I'm not looking to debate here. This isn't made in bad faith:
As someone who is discerning the next steps in their life, I've been considering what a Catholic marriage might look like and if it's my calling. As it stands right now, a Catholic marriage sounds like a grueling death sentence for some women. My main issue has to do with the Church's stance on birth control and (after conversations with priests in my life) clergy's quiet understanding that teachings related to it aren't very sustainable.
I'm a woman and without getting into my personal life, have struggled with fear of pregnancy. For this reason, I've made the determination that staying on birth control is the healthiest option for me. The Catholic Church, however, would beg to differ. If I were to get married, my only options would be to go off the pill and stay celibate or adopt NFP and live my life in crippling fear. That being said, I'm not opposed to having one or two children if I can get better - I do know that I can't remain open to having children anytime I have sex. This isn't only a mental health concern, but related to my material means. I do not work a job that allows me paid parental leave and I have very few days off. I'd have to work through each and every pregnancy and leaving my job would mean not making enough money to provide for children.
Obviously, getting married is not for everyone, but Catholic marriages impose an unbelievable amount of restrictions on the life of the woman. I've read Humanae Vitae and it makes the weak case that outlawing birth control actually upholds the value of the woman. As a woman - I firmly disagree with this. The insistence on my openness to pregnancy makes me feel like a vessel for life, like some kind of livestock who's ultimate goal is to breed. Appeals to what is 'natural' have long been held as a fallacious form of argumentation and while a female animal's most 'natural' purpose is to reproduce, equating this to the life of a human woman is an altogether weak and degrading argument.
Further, allowing NFP but not condoms or birth control is obviously contradictory (and not in the good way like Christ's death on the cross). Every method of birth control allows for a chance that pregnancy might occur. If we are allowed to abstain from sex or use NFP, it follows that any method of birth control would be permissible. Is it really 'natural' to abstain from sex with your spouse?
I see this doctrine hurt, not only me, but women around me. Women who struggle with medical issues are forced to live celibately with their spouse or risk their life with a pregnancy. The inequality is staggering. We are expected to give up our lives for a dangerous pregnancy that we are given no alternatives (aside from abstinence and degrading our relationships with our spouses) to prevent. I feel exhausted as I try to follow the Church's mental gymnastics to justify this doctrine and feel ready to give up on either love itself or the Church.
This might not be the best place to share my thoughts, but I want to do so in case there are any other women who struggle with this. I want to be more open about how this doctrine hurts with those around me and in my community, but speaking about it is difficult. I have chatted with a number of priests and it's clear to me that even they struggle with this issue.

You were waiting to drive out of your small street at an rv park and there is a maintenance manager in his huge truck pulls up, parks in the roadway and his young female employee who was driving a golf cart and was driving ahead of you suddenly stops to talk to her maintenance manager. They don't pull over to another place to chat. They just stay in the road way chatting. Dont look your way to acknowledge you. Would you sit there and allow them to chat on and on? Would you just reverse since no one was behind you? Or Would you say something for them to let ya on by?
Well, we(hubby and I) waited and waited and waited. I was telling my hubby to be patient but he was hurting tired from all the Dr visits he went to and had acupuncture done as well. We wanted to get back home and rest. We were almost there but they rudely didn't care that they were stopping traffic.
So, hubs says out the window "Excuse us, you all are blocking, can we drive-through?"
We drive on by, go to our spot and here comes the young employee driving by real slow and looking at us, our rv, our lot and mouthing to herself our spot number. She gave us a rude look and stared us down. I dont take kindly to that kind of stare down.
I got out of the car and walked until I encountered her blabbing to her male coworker. I could hear her talking about what had occurred. I walked up to her, introduced myself, and asked for her name. She spotted back. "Hunny, I don't have to tell you my name." I was taken back by her response. I told her don't call me Hunny. I introduced myself again and said my name and what lot I was in. She was passive-aggressive in her tone and the way she said "hunny." I told her they were being rude by not moving out of the way, and yet she was acting as if we were the rude ones.
I'm 49 and she is in her 20's? But talking to me like I'm younger than her or as if I was her peer.
Where does she get off?
If I were an employee here, I wouldn't have allowed that incident to happen.
Even if he was my boss. I would suggest for us to pull over somewhere else and not block the roadway.
Yet, She acted like I was a Karen and kept saying wow, as I walked away. I was appalled. My hubby called the front office, and they said they will talk to her. But I don't feel safe nor happy here anymore.
Was I wrong to talk to her about the incident to explain our side and how I felt threatened by her doing her slow drive by?? We were trying to stay here a while, but not if they are hiring rude employees like her and her maintenance manager.

Hey all, I played a lot of wow from BC through Pandaria way back in the day, but then stopped for a long time. I've recently been enjoying the crap out of Shadowlands, where I leveled up my new main to 65 with Chromie time and the Korthia/Zerith Mortis questlines.
I don't see any reason why I couldn't bang out 5 more levels before The War Within, but I'm really, really worried about my gear. I'll be level 70ish and be wearing a bunch of gear with the mid 200's item level.
Back when Pandaria launched, there was a vendor on the beach that sold a whole outfit for a bit of gold to help people catch up, but I haven't seen anything like that as I played through BFA on one character and Shadowlands with the other - but that was old content, and I've never even dipped into Dragonflight yet (probably going to skip it and come back to it).
Was there a gear catch-up mechanic in Dragonflight? Does anyone have any speculation if there might be something similar when The War Within drops?
Am I going to be forced to play through Dragonflight just to get enough gear to be able to do War Within? Or pay almost a hundred dollars to Pay-to-Win a bunch of gear?
Thanks for helping an old noob like me out with some confidence-boosting speculation!
(Yes, I know Pandamonium later this week can also get a person ready for War Within, but I'm absolutely in love with my current character and want to keep playing her).

So I recently lost my âbestfriendâ of almost 30 years for petty reasons and still confused about the situation, sheâs a narcissist. I posted about it on here. I called my guy friend to vent out about it. Before calling him I texted him to see if it was okay with me calling him and venting out due to the fact that he has his own issues and I didnât want to add more to his plate⌠he texted back and said it was fine to call him. When he answered I told him my bestfriend had cut ties with me and that I was hurt. I was holding in tears and just needed a friend to vent out to. He started yelling at me saying that I called him to âgossipâ about the situation (no heâs not friends with my ex bestfriend) he said he had a lot on his plate to be listening to my problems and that I create issues and continues flipping out.. I kindly said âyou know what Iâm sorry to have called you with my issues⌠itâs not a good day Iâll talk to you next timeâ He flipped again and said âWhy are you shutting me out â âyou have a problem with people telling you the truthâ I said âI gotta go byeâ hung up.. he texts me saying how rude I am etc⌠from there i reply with âitâs one thing to tell the truth and another to be yelled at. He proceeds in telling me that if he yelled it would be noticeable and that I need reflect on what Iâm doing wrong etc.. that he cares about me and all this stuff. I did not respond because at that point I felt like I wasnât getting anywhere I left it as that.. not to mention I was getting bad anxiety and recently had to get checked from all the stress.
So 2 weeks pass he sent me a long message how hurt he was I didnât respond and basically saying his goodbyes he wished me well etc.. I replied in hopes he would be an Adult about it since weeks went by and he always says true friends tell the truth even if it hurts. Well I was wrong.. I replied in the kindest way possible that I didnât appreciate the way he was yelling at me and that I had just lost my bestfriend .. I told him I felt like my friends were turning their backs on me and gave him examples like saying I was calling to âgossipâ and saying Iâm rude just because Iâm not letting him talk to me like that. Itâs not the first time he pops off on me he did it on my bday last year because I got to the location 5 mins late apologized profusely and he kept scolding me and he made me cry. I told him that Iâve never disrespected him like that..
His response was âwow that hurts you feel like I turned my back on you. Well I guess youâre going to feel it now, Itâs weird that you let other people treat you like shit but you treat good friends bad, itâs odd.. You need to stop blaming me and people and start reflecting etcâ like WTF I called to vent⌠when did I blame you ???â I told him he was projecting alot onto me. And said this was why I didnât respond because of how defensive he gets.. he told me to stop and blocked my number. Later that night unblocks me and havenât spoken to him since. After sometime reflecting on all this I realized that both my âfriendsâ have some mental issues. Iâm tired of being their punching bag and doormat.. this makes me sad I donât know how all this happened in one month. Maybe thereâs a reason for this happening. Not only Iâm I processing the situation with my now ex bestfriend but also this guy.. what the hell.

Hi! Today was my first time attending a reiki session and wow. So much to unpack.
A little background (I'll keep it as short as possible): Im from small town in south louisiana, not religious but had knowledge in Christianity, became more agnostic over the years, but open minded have experienced a lot of trauma, like most, through childhood and up until now. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety/depression, adhd.
In March I started having worsening abdominal pain so bad that it was debilitating. By mid April, I had a total hysterectomy followed by developing an ileus (intestines basically lose motility) and I literally thought I was dying. It was so painful and traumatic.
I've been better since the surgery, and hormones are perfectly regulated but I felt a lot of things from my past trauma resurfaced (now I know it makes since, since root chakra=survival and is connected to female reproduction). I've been working on healing my inner child and started meditating and stuff when I learned about reiki. I've been trying to work on things specifically-be happier, find joy, be grateful, tap back into my creative side, learn more about quantum physics/astronomy.
Today, I went in with an open mind only expecting it to be more of a meditation/relaxation thing. Prior to the session, I didn't tell the practitioner anything-about surgery, beliefs, anxiety, spiritual journey. She also does not know me, and while I do have social media, I don't post much.
Session starts, I felt warmth on my head and all these tingles and twinge throughout. When she was on my crown chakra I saw the most beautiful purple/magenta, super vibrant. Then I saw other colors through out just not as intense.
Here's the cool part: after our session, she told me that she sensed the over thinking/anxiety and on my heart chakra she felt like an elephant was on her chest. Funny thing is, I've been having that sensation all week and have been doing somatic exercises for it.
She also said that when she got to my root chakra/lower abdomen her hand burned, which is insane! She also said that Archangel Haniel came through. Although I was raised Christian, I have no idea who this is. All the practitioner told me about her was that she's known for wisdom and joy (perfect, just what I've been asking for). She also mentioned the number 35, which didn't really resonate with me except for the fact that I always had a feeling I'd die at 35 (morbid, I know). Left the session feeling great. Peaceful and validated.
Upon searching Haniel, she's amazing! She represents everything I've been wanting to manifest in my life!! Weirdest thing. She's also associated with artemis, the moon, and astrology. I've always felt a connection to artemis (thought about getting her tattooed on me next to my moon phases). Same thing when I looked up 35. There's a lot more I could write, but it's already too long. If you've made it this far, thanks.
Is it a fluke or a self fulfilling prophecy, you may think so. But I don't! Life is amazing and there's so much we don't know.

I've experienced my first ever raids and Mythic dungeons in Season 4. I've played WoW since BC! Loved gearing my Warrior and getting my 4-set.
I'd like to do this again on my Hunter. Have I missed all of the catch up if I begin gearing it now? The weekly quests, the free token to convert pieces into tier gear etc. Does all of this stop? And if so, how do I go about earning my tier gear on my Hunter?
Side note - Male Human or Male Dwarf Hunter. I can't settle... Purely on aesthetics.

The rules of Dmm skill and kill (dmm sk) in a nut shell
players may only trade via the ge.
points are rewarded for pvm kc, total level diaries combat aceivments and kills; adding more points if apker kills a high point target.
A restriction list that alters the points gain when killing any player they have killed in the last 48 hours
skilling stuns you for a breif moment
new rules on bank raiding and death mechanics
gear lv 65 and abovebreaks on death and must be repaired with lower teir equipment to be used again.
xp rates for skilling in a combat zone are given a multiplier while kills in the wilderness give an even bigger multiplyer.
Easy to obtain ornament kits are given as rewards.
A final tornament that gives each player a clan rank and duel rank and rewarding a in main game cosmedic cape that shows off their placements
The Point system:

Their is a points system based off total level, pvm kc/combat acheivments.

kills reward point
Armors and weapons over lv 50 add lots of gear points to a kill, while sub lv 50 give few gear points
Kills reward a small number of points for killing anyone you haven't killed in the last 2 days.
Kills against anyone you have killed with in the last 2 days will not get base kill points and only a 1/3 of gear points
having 3 kills on someone over 48 hours gives no points at all.
A icon above each player to easily identify players you have killed Already in the last 2 days
perhaps a red lock if they are unskulled and a red skull if they are
and whiteskull or skull/white if they are skulled with a lock

No trading in person only able to traded via the grand exchange
Dropped items don't appear to other players
Their are two inventories players may switch between; one for skilling and another for combat

A switchable inventory that only stores foods, ammo, gear and potions
The skilling pack inventory:
A switchable inventory that only stores resorces , tabs, teleport jewlery, non combat potions and skilling equipment/outfits
Includes a built in notedenoter options for skilling supllies only so people can do bank standing type skills anywhere it's dangourus for better xp rates

having 3 kills on someone over 48 hours gives no points at all.
A icon above each player to easily identify players you have killed Already in the last 2 days
perhaps a red lock if they are unskulled and a red skull if they are
and whiteskull or skull/white if they are skulled with a lock

Unfortunately I just learned about Jagexâs potential addition of aggression potions and prayer renewal potions coming to osrs, as well as the potential increase in power of endgame magic gear and nerf of the occult necklace. Now for some folks who have never played rs3, you may not know how bad it really is. Iâd like to introduce to you the concept of removing the FUN (money making and overall value) out of the early and mid-game content so that players who purchase bonds can power level their accounts with overpriced endgame consumables such as aggression potions and super prayer renewals.
This ends up hurting new and mid-game players in 2 ways.
1) players spending even more time farming monsters in the same spot with aggression potions (great for Jagex and endgame players) and taking up space where they would normally have to take breaks and allow other players to have a chance at that particular spot. 2) Could potentially trivialize one of the most reliable early to midgame money makers, farming ranarrs for prayer potions.
You see, the more stuff like this you add in to an MMO, the more the life gets sucked out of the game because the magic of these old games is actually in the OPPORTUNITIES that they give to the players in the early and mid-game game rather than everyone racing to the endgame content by purchasing as much overpriced garbage as possible, so that they can make the overpriced consumables themselves and sell them to low level players.
If youâre sitting here thinking âwow this guy is a janitor, loser, idiot, etc.â letâs take the time to reference 2 of our other favorite MMO franchises who have successfully ruined their games by taking out the early and mid game grinds.
World of Warcraft completely ruins any linear story they had left, adds level 70 boost instead of adding more midgame content and filling in story gaps for new players.
Guild Wars adds a level 80 boost for only $7 and completely ignores their stunning early and midgame. Allows the purchase of a mount at level 10 for irl money.
And finally, RuneScape 3. Completely trivializes ANY effective mid game money makers with a massive focus on endgame bossing, gear, and high skilling level requirements. The pressure to purchase a bond is much higher.
So, who hurt me? It was only some of the most trusted and greatest mmo franchises of all time. So please, leave the healthy core of the game alone. <3

Similar to Bic Camera (please see my previous post), this place sells more than cameras. Camping gear, bicycles, alcohol, toys, cosmetics, TVs, you name it, they got it. And what theyâve got are over a dozen filled shelves of puzzles. These two places have the most variety of brands Iâve seen yet! (Hence my lamentations about choice!) Apple One, Beverly, Yanoman, Epoch, and others I donât even know the names of - all here. My only criticism would be that if youâre into the Art Crystal puzzles (at least the Studio Ghibli ones), there is a distinct lack of them compared to the Bic Camera store in Akihabara, Tokyo. But other than that, wow, youâd be hard pressed not to find at least half a dozen puzzles to fall in love with and haul home. Iâve got my work cut out for me. How it worksHeartseeker is one of the Rogueâs ranged basic attacks that has a reliable chance of hitting its targets.Although Heartseeker is reliable in that respect, its damage potential was very limited throughout Diablo 4 history due to its lower base damage compared to core skills and combo points and because it had no way of delivering imbuement effects, inflicting area of effect (AoE) damage or taking advantage of the huge damage bonus from precision. While basic skills still canât be imbued and precision doesnât work with basic skills, Heartseekerâs main obstacles have been solved:
Also, because Heartseeker tracks targets, this can be used safely and reliably to deal damage to enemies from afar. As enemies then agro towards you from a distance and converge closer and closer together as they approach you, this allows your AoE explosions to deal more damage the more tightly packed enemies become. Pros
Victimise has interactions with your original attacks that result in your damage output being affected by double dipping. This means that certain buffs and debuffs boost your damage twice, usually in 2 different stages of your full damage calculation. Victimise bases its damage based on a percentage of damage that your Heartseeker hits do. For example, if Heartseeker does 10,000 damage and Victimise does 300% of your original (Heartseeker) damage, then Victimise explosions will do 30,000 damage. If then your Heartseeker damage is increased by buffs and debuffs that result in Heartseeker doing more damage against its targets, then this will increase the base damage of Victimise. For example, if the Control glyph + Exploit Weakness debuffs increase Heartseekerâs damage by 50%, then Heartseeker will now do 15,000 damage, and Victimise is expected to do 45,000 damage (because Victimise does 300% of your Heartseeker damage). However in this case, when Heartseeker results in a Victimise explosion and hits the same targets that are affected by the Control glyph + Exploit Weakness debuffs, then Victimise itself also gains the benefits from these debuffs, and its final damage will increase from 45,000 damage to 67,500 damage, or in other words 30,000 x 1.5 x 1.5 = 67,500 damage. Known interactions that double dip with Victimise:
To put things into perspective, while playing in the PTR, I noticed my Barrage hits that were doing 1.1 million damage were procing Victimise explosions that were doing almost 12 million damage. Hey all, I played a lot of wow from BC through Pandaria way back in the day, but then stopped for a long time. I've recently been enjoying the crap out of Shadowlands, where I leveled up my new main to 65 with timewalking and the Korthia/Zerith Mortis questlines.
I don't see any reason why I couldn't bang out 5 more levels before The War Within, but I'm really, really worried about my gear. I'll be level 70ish and be wearing a bunch of gear with the mid 200's item level.
Back when Pandaria launched, there was a vendor on the beach that sold a whole outfit for a bit of gold to help people catch up, but I haven't seen anything like that as I played through BFA on one character and Shadowlands with the other - but that was old content, and I've never even dipped into Dragonflight yet (probably going to skip it and come back to it).
Was there a gear catch-up mechanic in Dragonflight? Does anyone have any speculation if there might be something similar when The War Within drops?
Am I going to be forced to play through Dragonflight just to get enough gear to be able to do War Within? Or pay almost a hundred dollars to Pay-to-Win a bunch of gear?
Thanks for helping an old noob like me out with some confidence-boosting speculation!
(Yes, I know Pandamonium later this week can also get a person ready for War Within, but I'm absolutely in love with my current character and want to keep playing her).

Turned on WoW and my floating combat text is showing super low numbers(double digits)For example instead of me criting for 200,000 it will only show 20. When I heal it is completely normal. Even on my details addon it will say Iâm only doing like 40 dps. This is happening on all my characters. Healing is fine just damage towards enemies. Anyone know the problem or how to fix this?

Hey, everyone. Looks like Iâm part of the club no one wants to be in.
Iâm a 38 FTM. Currently 11 weeks pregnant as of today.
Up until now everything had been great (with the exception of me having pre-cervical cancer cells but thatâs a whole other issue.)
Iâve had two ultrasounds so far (6 weeks 5 days and at 8 weeks 3 days) and all had been normal. (Heard her heartbeat and everything.) Even saw her bouncing around like Iâm her personal trampoline.
Last week I had the MaterniT21 NIPT test done and was hopeful all would be well.
Sadly, I received the results this morning and while everything else is good it turns out my little girl has Monosomy X (Turnerâs syndrome.) I donât know if this matters but fetal fraction was 6%.
My doctor called me this morning and said she wants me to see a maternal fetal specialist as soon as possible and gave me the number to make an appointment.
I have an appointment next week on the 23rd and theyâll be doing a special kind of ultrasound, some more genetic testing, and me and my SO will be meeting with a genetic counselor.
Everything Iâve read so far tells me the best case scenarioâis itâs a false positive.
But the worstâis thereâs a very positive likelihood that Iâll end up having a miscarriage soon or had one already and havenât realized it yet.
Whatâs even more troubling is that for the past 4 days all my symptoms ( extreme tiredness and morning sickness) have essentially disappeared. I thought it was because my placenta finally kicked into gear and I was heading into my second trimester soon.
I was so excited. Until today.
From what Iâve researched so far, theyâll either do a CVS or an amniocentesis.
However, Iâve heard that CVS isnât very reliable for Turnerâs because it can be confined to the placenta and give us another false positive result.
I would only consider terminating if it turns out to be positive because I donât want my little girl to suffer.
Have any of you been through this and is there anything Iâm missing? Or anything I should ask about or anything else I can do on my end? Heck, is there a special diet or supplement? Because Iâll gladly do whatever it takes.
I feel like Iâve had the rug pulled out from under me (so does my fiancĂŠ. Although heâs the type to not get too upset until he sees irrefutable concrete evidence.)
One second Iâm breaking down crying wondering how just yesterday I was shopping with my SO for baby clothes and talking about my baby shower with my MIL, only to find out the next morning she may not stay with me, could be suffering inside me, and I could lose my only chance to be a mom.
The next, I have these glimmers of hope thinking the test is wrong or maybe sheâll have mild case and only 2 or 3 of her chromosomes are missing the extra X, and all will be okay in the end.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Last March 12,2024 8:34pm I receive an email from WoW that my request for pills is approved by the doctor and will just have to wait for the transaction number to be sent. I am worried because most of the posts that iâve read that they receive their transaction no. within less than an hour, now is May 15, 2024 5:07 and still havenât receive any. 2024.05.13 23:01 knudipper Denali Trip Report from 6/2023
Posting to help myself process the climb and provide thoughts for others thinking about Denali unguided on minimal experience. Open to thoughts and critique from people who know what they're doing. I'm obliged to thank all those who provided their thoughts and guidance to me on this subreddit a year ago. Also, to the guidance from Steve House and the other guy in their YouTube Denali video.
TLDR: Did not summit, learned lots.
It was a great idea... We trained pretty hard in the flatlands... We bought lots of good gear... and some not so good..... We were optimistic.....And realistic, we thought....
But... man, oh man. Denali is BIG, Alaska is BIG. And Talkeetna felt very small after 24 hours.
First alert was assembling our food. We drop shipped almost all the food to our hotel in Anchorage. We got in about 9pm, got everything from the desk and walked over to Wal Mart for the rest. Started packing food into daily rations about 10pm. We thought that would take 30 minutes. Try close to four hours, confusion, second guessing ourselves and each other on quantities, days, recipes. Got to sleep much later than we thought. We both worried that we'd be tired, maybe too tired for when we were dropped off on the glacier the next afternoon. HAH!!
Met Gary the shuttle driver the next morning. Watch some other TRs on YouTube and you'll get to know Gary, friendly, outgoing with good info about Talkeetna. We arrive on time, go through check in and somehow we got bumped out of our Ranger meeting. Come back later and we'll still have time to get to our flight. Did I mention it's overcast with light rain? Go through the ranger meeting, head over to TAT to find that we're 76th and 77th on the waitlist with. "Come back tomorrow at 8am for an update." Two guys we met on the shuttle actually make the plane that day because they understood the process with TAT and were all set to go after the Ranger meeting. Guy at TAT checks us in and takes our $$. No other info is offered or asked for. We're aware we need sleds and wands but we guess they just go on the plane with us.
We find the TAT climbing hostel and are grateful to find two bunks in the same room. My buddy is, not germophobic, but he is right up to that line. We eat at a restaurant that night, figuring, hey, 7 climbers per flight, 11 flights, mid afternoon tomorrow right? We check in at TAT at 8am, they're making waffles and have actually great coffee. But they have no idea if there'll be any flights today. Wander back and forth from the hostel, through town to the airfield. This is day 2 of 16 days we've given ourselves to go up. At day 16, no matter where we are, we go down.
Day 3, repeat day 2 but now we're using the hostel kitchen. I'm cool with the level of hygiene because this is only a level or two beyond how I grew up, when things got chaotic. I'm impressed with my buddy's fortitude, and grateful because I don't want to pay for food when it's already been bought. We hear good news that afternoon about the weather. Buddy suggests we get an AirBnB for this night to get a good nights sleep and clean shower before we likely fly out the next day.
Day 4, the weather starts to clear and now there's real activity at the airfield. My buddy, who doesn't sit still well, joins a group of workers at the airfield digging a trench. I sit on the deck, breathing deeply and hoping we can get out today. Then we get word we're up soon. Then I ask, hey what about sleds and wands? Find out climbers should get this arranged right after check in and we scramble around getting this set up. I grab a sled without looking it over well. As we and our gear are being driven over, I see this sled has some serious cracks and swap for a better one 10 minutes before we fly out.
The flight up is amazing. The transition on the glacier is hectic, a short controversy about which mountain can belongs to who and we get off the landing strip quick. We find a spot to set our tent a fair ways up the hill and get to work melting water for dinner and the next day. Take my skis out in order to prep for tomorrow and find the front straps of my skins have torn and are irreparable. I walk around camp, find a guy who's leaving who sells me his skins for $50. Can't believe how lucky I am. I walk around and get pictures, bury, wand and gps tag our cache. I'm blown away, I'm alive in a way I've only experienced a few other times in my life. I'm excited to get going in the wee hours of day 5. Plenty of days left, right?
Get up and going on time. Feels so good to be hauling the sled, carrying the pack. Going down is helpful. Going on flat and climbing isn't bad. I am working harder than my buddy(MB) from here on. He's 20 years younger and places top 5 in regional ultras, I'm a caboose guy at these. Anyhow, I feel like I'm holding him up, like he's disappointed in our pace. We arrive at 8K camp 8 hours later. MB points out that successful groups do this in 6hrs. I'm reply I'm working at a pace that I believe gets me to 14K in good shape, and what else did you want to do today? Ends fine, we each accept where the other one's at. Set up camp, Denali Pizza (simple and awesome) for dinner. Melt water, pull out the gear, food we'll cache at about 9.5K tomorrow. Good day, amazing as clouds lift a bit and we see more terrain.
Day 6, realize we're not eating 2 bagels each per day. We've over planned with bagels and several other foods. Too much weight but unsure about how to move things around. Lighter packs, lighter sleds and the first real climb. We do good work, talk a bit to teams coming down, most not having summitted. Bury, wand and GPS tag our cache. Tie empty sleds to our packs and head down. When we get to the real down hill, it's trashy, flat light, and I'll own this: I was rattled being off balance with a bit more weight and bulk going down. Got in my head and took some time to descend. MB frustrated or just me in my head? Got back down, did camp work, napped, ate dinner.
Day 7, push up to 11K. Snow picking up and visibility still good. I'm slower than MB again, and even though this is a fact we're both well aware of since we talked about Denali 3 years ago, it's in my head and won't leave that I'm holding us back. I propose we boot down from 11 camp and put skis on at the base of the climb and MB seems okay with it.
Day 8, wake up to heavy snow. Dig out our enclosure and have breakfast. Put more food we didn't eat into the "carry forward bag" which is getting heavier by the meal. Dig out again, and again, and again. Mid-afternoon we start getting weather reports through garmin in-reach texts with a guy back home and from other teams and guides. Consensus in 6 more days of this but up to 48" per day. I run the math: 8+6=14. Hmmm: 16-14=2. Then I run the flights per day math and number of teams we've seen descending, number of teams likely to descend with this forecast. My math says we could be stuck here 6 days and at the airfield for that or more. All for 2 more possible days of ascent. MB disagrees and wants to wait it out. We walk through various scenarios and I hold firm. MB agrees we'll go down because we both agreed if one wanted to go down for any reason, that was that. MB is a guy who holds to his word in this and all aspects of life.
We pack up. Fast...and sloppy. We want to fly out tomorrow. I'm not excited anymore, I'm anxious and want off Denali. Not be in a tent for two weeks in snow. We boot down the hill below 11 camp, put on skis and find our cache at 9.5, combine stuff. I get my stuff packed well. We start down. The track is blown in and we are navigating entirely by Garmin, using the standard route. Not reversing our climb up, which followed the visible track and wands. Are we actually on safe snow? Visibility is still about 15 feet but now we have a track to follow. We're both cautious with the downs. Don't know if we need to let it rip to go up again or if there's a corner we need to be slow for. We get to the airfield in 9.5 hours. Dig up our cache and consolidate our gear.
MB decides he'd rather not cowboy camp with the fly and we set up the tent and go to sleep. Up at the appointed hour and get in the flight queue. The guy says he'll give us plenty of notice so we can take down our tent, IF we fly out today. I am now watching every cloud for signs of building or diminishing. A few planes fly in, circle and leave. We're napping on and off.
Then I hear the guy yelling, "that's your plane". It's being loaded. We're 200 yards away in our fully set up tent, pads and bags. FUCK, FUCK, FUCK. I go down and ask "what happened?" "I don't know, two guys snaked your flight." Talk a bit more about other stuff, what he's been reading, we're into some similar literature. He then guarantees we'll be on the next flight that comes in, whether today or tomorrow. I'm listening for airplanes full on now, just want to get down and be off the mountain.
We do get on a flight that day, get a hotel and move flights and shuttle to fly out of Anchorage tomorrow. I walk down by the river and call my wife. "Honey, this will sound weird, I need you to tell me I'm really off the mountain and not dreaming." This helps a lot.
We make all our connections and fly out, get back home the next day. If you got this far, thanks, I guess. It's cathartic to write all this down. I replay this trip or parts of it every couple weeks even now. MB and I did our repair work and still call, text, hang out, run together when I'm in town. I do not regret going one bit, yet not getting further up still hits me hard. My fears and reaction to niggling discomforts on the mountain tell me I'm weak.

TLDR: Did not summit, learned lots.
It was a great idea... We trained pretty hard in the flatlands... We bought lots of good gear... and some not so good..... We were optimistic.....And realistic, we thought....
But... man, oh man. Denali is BIG, Alaska is BIG. And Talkeetna felt very small after 24 hours.
First alert was assembling our food. We drop shipped almost all the food to our hotel in Anchorage. We got in about 9pm, got everything from the desk and walked over to Wal Mart for the rest. Started packing food into daily rations about 10pm. We thought that would take 30 minutes. Try close to four hours, confusion, second guessing ourselves and each other on quantities, days, recipes. Got to sleep much later than we thought. We both worried that we'd be tired, maybe too tired for when we were dropped off on the glacier the next afternoon. HAH!!
Met Gary the shuttle driver the next morning. Watch some other TRs on YouTube and you'll get to know Gary, friendly, outgoing with good info about Talkeetna. We arrive on time, go through check in and somehow we got bumped out of our Ranger meeting. Come back later and we'll still have time to get to our flight. Did I mention it's overcast with light rain? Go through the ranger meeting, head over to TAT to find that we're 76th and 77th on the waitlist with. "Come back tomorrow at 8am for an update." Two guys we met on the shuttle actually make the plane that day because they understood the process with TAT and were all set to go after the Ranger meeting. Guy at TAT checks us in and takes our $$. No other info is offered or asked for. We're aware we need sleds and wands but we guess they just go on the plane with us.
We find the TAT climbing hostel and are grateful to find two bunks in the same room. My buddy is, not germophobic, but he is right up to that line. We eat at a restaurant that night, figuring, hey, 7 climbers per flight, 11 flights, mid afternoon tomorrow right? We check in at TAT at 8am, they're making waffles and have actually great coffee. But they have no idea if there'll be any flights today. Wander back and forth from the hostel, through town to the airfield. This is day 2 of 16 days we've given ourselves to go up. At day 16, no matter where we are, we go down.
Day 3, repeat day 2 but now we're using the hostel kitchen. I'm cool with the level of hygiene because this is only a level or two beyond how I grew up, when things got chaotic. I'm impressed with my buddy's fortitude, and grateful because I don't want to pay for food when it's already been bought. We hear good news that afternoon about the weather. Buddy suggests we get an AirBnB for this night to get a good nights sleep and clean shower before we likely fly out the next day.
Day 4, the weather starts to clear and now there's real activity at the airfield. My buddy, who doesn't sit still well, joins a group of workers at the airfield digging a trench. I sit on the deck, breathing deeply and hoping we can get out today. Then we get word we're up soon. Then I ask, hey what about sleds and wands? Find out climbers should get this arranged right after check in and we scramble around getting this set up. I grab a sled without looking it over well. As we and our gear are being driven over, I see this sled has some serious cracks and swap for a better one 10 minutes before we fly out.
The flight up is amazing. The transition on the glacier is hectic, a short controversy about which mountain can belongs to who and we get off the landing strip quick. We find a spot to set our tent a fair ways up the hill and get to work melting water for dinner and the next day. Take my skis out in order to prep for tomorrow and find the front straps of my skins have torn and are irreparable. I walk around camp, find a guy who's leaving who sells me his skins for $50. Can't believe how lucky I am. I walk around and get pictures, bury, wand and gps tag our cache. I'm blown away, I'm alive in a way I've only experienced a few other times in my life. I'm excited to get going in the wee hours of day 5. Plenty of days left, right?
Get up and going on time. Feels so good to be hauling the sled, carrying the pack. Going down is helpful. Going on flat and climbing isn't bad. I am working harder than my buddy(MB) from here on. He's 20 years younger and places top 5 in regional ultras, I'm a caboose guy at these. Anyhow, I feel like I'm holding him up, like he's disappointed in our pace. We arrive at 8K camp 8 hours later. MB points out that successful groups do this in 6hrs. I'm reply I'm working at a pace that I believe gets me to 14K in good shape, and what else did you want to do today? Ends fine, we each accept where the other one's at. Set up camp, Denali Pizza (simple and awesome) for dinner. Melt water, pull out the gear, food we'll cache at about 9.5K tomorrow. Good day, amazing as clouds lift a bit and we see more terrain.
Day 6, realize we're not eating 2 bagels each per day. We've over planned with bagels and several other foods. Too much weight but unsure about how to move things around. Lighter packs, lighter sleds and the first real climb. We do good work, talk a bit to teams coming down, most not having summitted. Bury, wand and GPS tag our cache. Tie empty sleds to our packs and head down. When we get to the real down hill, it's trashy, flat light, and I'll own this: I was rattled being off balance with a bit more weight and bulk going down. Got in my head and took some time to descend. MB frustrated or just me in my head? Got back down, did camp work, napped, ate dinner.
Day 7, push up to 11K. Snow picking up and visibility still good. I'm slower than MB again, and even though this is a fact we're both well aware of since we talked about Denali 3 years ago, it's in my head and won't leave that I'm holding us back. If I did it again:
- No skis on Denali for me. I'm a competent skier and can get down serious stuff out west without embarrassing myself. A pack and a sled skiing down through crud with low visibility? Snow shoes all...the...way.
- 4 people, not two. Enough guys to set up a kitchen tent, split camp duties into smaller tasks. I need a place to spread out, talk, cook and eat in a comfortable position.
- Better conversations about pace and relative speed well before the trip.
- We did ropes work, simulated crevasse rescue, camped out in -10F. More time winter camping and skinning in the woods together.
- MB and I climbed Mt Adams. We summitted Rainier together unguided in 8/2022. Took a 3 day custom guided mountaineering class in 12/2021 to learn skills. Didn't go above 7K in the class. Handled our shit well for two days. Not enough time to really know what we're in for physically and work through team frictions about pace, leisure time, camp life. Maybe we could have climbed Rainier and Baker on the same trip? Maybe spend several days at Camp Muir and summit twice? Climb Rainier early season?
- Guided if I try again? Maybe.

 | I want to share a overview/introduction to my fictional universe that I've been slowly building overtime. I've unfortunately fallen into eternal world building hell where I build far more than I write but at least I thoroughly enjoy it. What I mostly want from this post is to see if the wild amalgamation that is my universe is at least on a surface level "Coherent". Introduction: Welcome to the JoeVerse(Name Pending), a long time literary project that acts as both homage to what I love as well as a deep-dive into my creative mind. The JoeVerse is a fictional "Shared Universe" where a large number of characters, locations and stories created primarily by myself and in collaboration with others take place. The JoeVerse is depicted as existing within a large "Multiverse" consisting of a number of separate & distinct universes, all of which help make up the JoeVerse Multiverse. The most crucial aspect of the JoeVerse Multiverse is that it also incorporates a large number of genres from all major science fiction and fantasy concepts, such as how aliens, gods, magic, mythology, cosmic beings, parallel universes, interstellar travel and extremely advanced human-developed technology all exist prominently throughout the Multiverse. The JoeVerse primarily was created to express my love for "Action" and the many forms it comes in. For example the many pieces of media entertainment I consumed as a child. e.g Cartoons, Comics, Anime, Books, Video Games, Martial arts, Music, Movies, etc) all strongly and directly influenced the creation of the JoeVerse. The JoeVerse's many stories primarily focus on the aspects I like about these pieces of entertainment such as Action, Characters, Power-Scaling, Continuity, Worldbuilding and Paying Homage to these oh so cherished pieces of media. )))JoeVerse Prime: At the heart of this multiverse lies the mainstream continuity, which is known canonically as "JoeVerse Prime". JoeVerse Prime is based on a fictitious take on the real-world. For example, Earth found within the JoeVerse Prime has mostly all the features of the real one: same countries, same public personalities (politicians, movie stars, etc.), same historical events (such as World War II, the Cold War), and so on; however, it also contains many other fictional elements, such as new geographical locations, political organizations and a number of new & different historical events. Corners & Sub-Corners:(Re-read if needed) The JoeVerse Prime is divided into four separate major settings of distinct & âBroad '' genres known as "Corners". The four respective Corners are Earth, Intergalactic, the Naatherlands and the Interdimensional. All Corners house minor settings of typically more âFocusedâ genres & stories known as "Sub-corners". The Corners and their respective Sub-corners are liable to "Crossover" and even connect with one another. Four Corners explained: )Earth: Starting with "Earth", home to an abundance of "Action & Adventure" series featuring primarily humanity through various times in history (I.e stories can take place anywhere from Ancient times all the way to the Modern era and beyond).The majority of stories told on Earth feature subjects & characters such as war, criminals, detectives, espionage, politics, assassins, soldiers, super soldiers, spies, mutants, zombies, magic, warriors, martial artists and then some. There are also Earth's five sub-corners, starting with the "Underworld", home to the stories of "Urban Fantasy" about the supernatural & often cruel world of Vampires, Gargoyles, Lycans and much more all vying for survival and power while living just under the periphery of human civilization. The Underworld explores the supernatural civilization that has co-existed alongside humanity since ancient times. Then the second Sub-corner, the "Holy War", a myriad of stories using lore based on the many âMythologies & Folkloreâ of various human cultures, these stories follow the secret, ancient, bloody war of the Celestial Church. The Celestial Church is a 2000 year old clandestine organization of holy; warriors, soldiers, mages, knights, nuns, monks and more gathered from the many religions & cultures from around the globe to be the stalwart shield & sharpened blade against the supernatural, the unending swathes of powerful demons attempting to invade Earth and the unspeakable evil entities from alternate dimensions all of which has threatened humanity since it's conception. Then the "West Coast Tales", a dramatic & grounded anthology series based in and around the West Coast of America. In every story we follow new characters in vastly different situations in life as they deal with family, drama, violence, romance, finances, sickness, coming of age, natural disasters, etc. Then, the "Virtual World", a video game-like dimension that is home to various "LitRPG" focused stories. The Virtual World is directly connected to Earth via the highly popular, full-body capsule operated VRMMO known as the T.B.G system(Name pending). The Virtual world naturally houses the concept of "Gaming" thus it converts anything that enters it into data that follows its unique laws of reality and thus it has NPCs, Boss fights, Exp, Quest, Stats, H.U.Ds, Builds, Classes, etc. Finally, the "Kaijin conflict" is the "Kaiju genre" focused storyline about the international conflict between the South Korean based Iskandar Industries with a human mutant sub-species known as the Kaijin. The Kaijin have superhuman abilities and are liable to become animalistic and go on a rampage; they also have the ability to transform into giant destructive monsters known as Kaijus. )Naatherlands: The next Corner, the "Naatherlands", a large somber dimension that is home to the land of the "Supernatural & the Macabre". With it having stories of Vampires, Lycans, Gremlins, Gargoyles, Witches & Warlocks, horrific wildlife & flora and warring factions led by barbaric warlords. There is also varying levels of industrialized magic-based technology all in the backdrop of a Victorian era-esque(Gaslamp) setting. And it's singular sub-corner the "Court of Blood", a "Political" focused series that shows the inner workings of the cunning, devious and often blood thirsty motives and actions of the royal members and leading factions of the upper echelon of the Naatherlands as they go about the cruel game of politics. )Intergalactic: Third Corner, the "Intergalactic" is the setting encompassing the vast Cosmos of which Earth is a part of. The Intergalactic is home to various "Sci-fi" stories full of aliens, robots, artificial intelligence, spacecrafts, advanced and futuristic weapons & technology, interstellar bounty hunters, psychic power wielding warriors as well as galaxy spanning empires and Interstellar warfare. Its first Sub-corner, "The War of Order & Chaos" is a "Mecha" inspired set of stories about the eternal struggle across the known universe between the immensely powerful chosen warriors of Order & Chaos known as the "Exuu'd". Regardless of origin the Exuu'd all fight each other for the very balance of the Cosmos. They are also gifted the powerful, sentient mechanized beings known as the Exxoms(Mechas) to assist in their endeavors. Exxoms all have unique designs, personalities and weapons & abilities. Its second Sub-corner "Aon", a "Sword and Planet" inspired storyline, planet and accompanying solar system. The Aon system is locked outside of time & reality and for unknown reasons travelers from the Intergalactic, Interdimensional and even across time get pulled into the mysterious system by an unknown force. Since being secluded by conventional time both the inhabitants & technology have progressed in a way that there are varying levels of technology. I'm trying to make the spiritual successor to Xwing for 90s DOS everyone craved, but Lucas Arts never delivered. I was also inspired by Wing Commander Privateer who's title led me to imagining building a giant fleet by buying more and more ships and making friends.It has a bunch of bugs but these will be fixed in a week or two. It's still pretty fun and a base by which a HUGE HUGE potential WOW killer will be made on. fairly long patch notes of a subset of what I plan on doing in the future are at the bottom.

I'm exhausted... I spent close to a year on this patch... And the last 3 months was nothing but sleep, code, sleep, code, body necessities, balanced against being stress sick, normal sick, and trying not to break down due to being isolated non stop working... About 2000 hours in this patch alone, on top of 10,000 hours in the past 6 years before that, and I use an anthology of game resources that took me 20,000 hours to make. There's some bugs due to Unity compiling standalone improper from editor, but they'll be fixed, as well as the story line not in... --Three forms of Ground Combat: GROUND COMBAT FORM I) One is a classical First Person Shooter (FPS) with vehicles.
GROUND COMBAT FORM II) One is tactical Real Time Turn Based Game(RTTG) from top down, almost isometric. RTTG will give you the feel of a classic orthogonic chess like game with cover, vision and such, yet everyone plays at the same time. RTTG mode happens when you enter populated towns, not because the server can't handle infinite players in a small zone, but because it feels more intense when any action and fight can start from the shadows. Movement is freer and faster when no one has fights going on nearby.
