Just for some background context; I'm 30 years old and live in England. I have a full time job as a support worker that I love and have been a support worker since December 2022. I work with adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues and I love doing what I can to help them.
The job itself pays minimum wage so to cover bills and food, I have to work 50-60 hours every week. I am unable to have much of a social life because of this as I'm either working or tired. I also am living pay check to pay check due to the hourly wage being minimum wage.
I have thought about going to university as a mature student. I am wanting to do social care as I have personal experience of witnesses the cracks and faults in the social care system and hope I can make a difference. I don't have any savings so will have to get a student loan to cover the cost of university. I also qualify, working 50'60 hours a week, to get a maintenance loan to help cover the cost of bills.
If I got to university and become a full time student, I am aware that I will have to drop my hours at work and will probably only be able to work around 20 hours a week. This is fine for me, my concern is being able to afford rent, bills, food ect.
Has anyone received a maintenance loan from university and still been able to afford renting their own flat?
Any opinions would be appreciated as I'm worried about affording to live if I spend four years at university.

Shocked gasps and murmurs run through the crowded classroom as they hear this. Every student in the room was a future galactic level politician of one level or another. They all expected to learn this information sooner or later but each of them without exception thought it would be later.
“Now, now quiet down, I understand the shock of learning it this early but countermeasures have already been put in place. For one you all have had your memories scanned discreetly for the past 6 months. Secondly over these 6 months of classes a memetic agent has been thoroughly rooted in each and every one of your minds.”
Outrage and shouting began among the students at this insane level of invasion into their privacy. But a quiet gentle voice spread across the whole room as though it came from space itself. It was a soft whisper but it seemed to overwhelm all the shouting voices.
“Calm down everyone, your school and teachers are not the ones who did these things. It was myself in fact who did all of that, we can't have greedy or corrupt people learning my peoples secrets after all.”
As this voice spoke up blue light swirled in every corner of the room and slowly coalesced into a being next to the podium. As the being took shape a stunned silence enveloped the room and a few students directly fainted. There standing in the front of their classroom was a human that descended into physical form, wearing a crisp clean suit no less. The teacher looked over to the Human and she smiled at him thankfully. Then, breaking the silence she spoke up again.
“ Now then please wake your unconscious classmates if you would everyone… Ah good since that's done let me start by saying our galaxy's last few thousand years of peace is because the humans did not in fact leave the galaxy. They ascended yes but still watch over us and intervene when major wars or atrocities are about to occur and stop them. Some of you may even remember in the news a few years ago when two pulsars were due to collide. The resulting explosion would have destroyed a dozen nearby stars. The radiation it would have put out would have been enough to clear half of the galaxy of life.
Well the humans descended and transported one of the pulsars to another galaxy altogether. So while it appears they are gone they are here watching over us like guardian angels. Now then, Jonathin, would you like to give your lecture to these eager students?”
Jonathan smiled wide and jumped right into the lecture without any hesitation, a clear look of pride on his face.
“Why yes, I'd love to. So, as you all heard, humans are still around. I'm kind of physical proof of that now aren’t I? Yes we did ascend, yes we did abandon our physical bodies but no we have not stopped watching this galaxy. In the higher plane we have physical bodies again but we can come back down here to live as energy if we so choose. The laws of reality up there are a bit… different. Closer to the fundamental secrets of the underlying structure of reality really.
That's why any species decides to ascend, we complete our understanding and research on this plane, this dimension. It's also a basic requirement for ascension. If you don't have 100% of the laws of this level figured out your mind wont be able to handle the way laws and even basic physics work up there. Anyway, that's enough of all of that, I can't spoil too much about the higher dimensions. So let's get into the how of humanity shall we?
It started a long time ago in the human year 2100, or somewhere around there. It's so long ago the exact year was lost, it is after all human year 34000. Anyway it started back then shortly after the unification of earth. We had just finished a devastating war of ideology. The last one we would ever have in fact. We lost a full 60% of the human population at the time. Eventually we came out of it and our grand authority at the time along with his council of advisors calmed the remaining chaos and started to rebuild Earth.
We had destroyed almost every major city on the planet at the time in that war. It was… a dark time in human history but also one of the brightest. After everything was settled we began to advance rapidly for the betterment of ourselves, of each other, and our society as a whole. One of these advancements was realizing that one of our most deadly diseases, cancer, could never be cured by conventional medicine. We learned this because we fully sequenced and understood the genetic structure of ourselves.
That's when a bold idea was put forward by a medical researcher who was typically ousted by his peers. He had the idea of an internal gene vault. The idea was that a template would be added inside of the body of a person and cells could only replicate from this template. People called him mad for the idea and he could get no traction until a terminal stage 4 cancer patient volunteered to undergo his treatment.
This researcher repurposed some nanobots used in cellular reconstruction for nerve damage cases. He programmed them so that if there were any cells in the body that did not match the information of a person's own template the bots would attack and destroy any cell. The only leeway for variance was in neurons as they simply change too much as we live our lives. A 20% change allowance for them was given to account for neuroplasticity.
This made it so cells could replicate and grow naturally but too much decency was culled. To the surprise of much of the medical community, the stage 4 patient was better in a matter of a single month. The ousted researcher was suddenly praised and hailed as a genius by his peers. But he wasn't done yet, not by a long shot. His next step was to make it so that cells would be unable to replicate on their own. He set a chemical trigger in each and every cell in the human body and without it the cell wouldn’t replicate.
Then he made it so a separate set of nanomachines would carefully administer and synthesize this chemical only to cells who had healthy and perfectly intact telomeres. With this step, he made us biologically immortal and his name will be forever celebrated in human society. Now before we continue on to the next part, any questions?”
Instantly a single appendage of every student in the room went up and a few light signals were given by aquatic species. Seeing this Jonathin smiled wide and slowly went through every question noting a few interesting ones like.
Q “If humans had nanomachines for medicine already, why was this not done sooner?”
A “Because before the great war there was corporate greed and corruption, these nanomachines were hidden away and only used by the rich and powerful.”
Or
Q “Why was the researcher called mad? That idea seemed rather brilliant.”
A “It was against the norm, and we hadn’t quite established at that point that unique and non standard ideas were the ones that should be most encouraged. We got our mentality for science backwards for most of our history, scoffing at ideas that weren’t “mainstream”. But the essence of science itself is to question everything and consider all angles, none should be shunned unless disproven.”
And finally, Jonathins favorite.
Q “Wait, this was only the starting point for human ascension? This would be a plateau for any other race.”
A “ Yes this was the starting point, humanity is a curious and greedy species by nature. We took this nature and focused it towards learning rather than selfish gain. Our curiosity made it so that unless we learned literally everything we would always seek more information and knowledge. Our greed made us hunger for that knowledge like nothing else.”
Once all of the questions were answered Jonathin continued on with his lesson.
“So that was the first step we took, biological immortality. The next step was integrating our minds and bodies with our technology on a higher level. This wasn’t hard, most of us had neuro processors at this point, after all. Integrating with computers and the like was a simple matter of willing ourselves to do it. But we took it a step further and made ourselves several virtual worlds, our own virtual galaxy even. Some places we would meld our minds with others for a time to solve larger, more complex problems. In others we would simply play games and have fun that the pesky conventional rules of reality disallow but a virtual one does.
We integrated with not only our machines but with our own bodies more thoroughly. Using our neuro processors we connected the more instinctual or unconscious parts of the brain to the parts used for higher thinking, memory and the like. We gained total mastery of the flesh, but we noticed even with perfect control over our minds and bodies something was off. We couldn’t control emotions, no matter what we did, something always interfered. So we went through everything and looked it over and came to the only logical conclusion, the soul. We determined that the soul had to exist but we couldn’t seem to measure it or determine its location in the body.
We tried, for centuries, with technology that to many of you would be inconceivable. Microscopes using artificial types of radiation that could view individual quarks for example. We used every scanner, every sensor imaginable but we just couldn’t find the soul. We knew for a fact it had to exist and be measurable… somehow. Eventually someone decided to look at ancient pre-war records and “crackpot theories”. Eventually we came across one that seemed outlandish but remember at this point outlandish ideas were like prized gems. So we read up on it and essentially it said.
‘ I have a theory of my own about energy, not thermal, gravitational, or electrical, but biological energy. Ki, mana, life energy, psychic energy and all the other names we give it. People write it off as non-scientific but I would like to posit that perhaps this energy is real and we simply are dismissing it because it sounds too strange. But the truth is often stranger than fiction and I believe this is also the case here. When you run electricity through a wire, or any non superconductor, what happens? It generated an electric or electromagnetic field, right? The resistance is what causes it, but that's not important here.
What if mana, ki and the like are simply the electromagnetic field that the nervous system of the body is giving off? Psychics or energy users or whatever you want to call them simply figured out a way to control this field based on how energy flows through our nervous system and our flesh. A muscle in the brain that humanity long since forgot how to flex for some reason or other. If we could learn to control this energy again, wouldn’t we as humans with nothing but our organic bodies be able to manipulate energy and do things we would consider magical or psychic? Using our energy field to interact with energy outside our bodies and change the universe around us with it? I do wonder if maybe this would allow us to know once and for all if there is a soul
For if there is a soul, it is surely a form of energy and should we learn to consciously see, feel, hear and interact with energy in these ways, we would know of our soul.’
This document inspired many and we began meditating and looking inwards to our own bodies to find answers. Eventually a method was found and formed the foundation of what we ended up calling cultivation. This founding method inspired dozens more and eventually we knew for a fact how to control the energy fields of our bodies. Decades later, someone finally did it, they were able to sense their own soul. The power they wielded was immense. It was like they had the power of the big bang in the palm of their hands. Once we found the soul we had perfect our minds, our bodies, and now, even our souls were being studied and worked on to perfect.
I wish I could tell you all exactly how to do it but it's esoteric by its very nature. Everyone experiences it in a vastly different way in just the human race, let alone alien species. But humanity dug deeper and eventually discovered every alien race was capable of the same feats and abilities. But we as a whole decided that this should be a journey that every species takes themselves. With that, using our essentially infinite lifespans, we began to look inwards and use this ability to feel and see energies. Every human being suddenly became able to pry into the secrets of reality itself and just know how it worked innately through this energy. So eventually humanity as a whole but also individually learned the true inner workings of reality. With this understanding came a feeling.
We felt the next level, another type of energy. Once we reached enlightenment about our reality, We began to feel the walls of the very dimension we live in. We felt the restrictions of third dimensional space like a boulder on our chests. So we dug even deeper into ourselves and found that we could take all of the energy from our bodies and separate from them, existing independently as souls. As souls through energy we could replicate every feat our technology granted us and more, much much more. We began to guide the whole galaxy as overseers and guardians at that point and over time figured out a few ways to leave this third dimensional space and move on to the next level.
Now we are what you all know of as myths and legends, the… ugh ‘godlike’ creatures you all look up to. Though almost all of us hate being called gods or anything similar, we are human and it is the rightful place of gods to tremble at our feet if they exist, why should we be called something lesser? All life in the universe in humanities eyes in fact is greater than a so-called god, but I’m ranting now. That is the full story of how humanity ascended, any final questions?”
Every appendage in the room shot up again and many more lights flicked on. Jonathan smiled and shook his head as the students began shouting their questions like younglings again, not like the adults in a college level class they actually were.

I am running a Libre 2 (2.11.1.81.75) on an iPhone 15 (17.4.1) everything works fine, other than if I experience a signal loss, yes I get the signal loss notification ok, but then when I manual scan to reconnect, I then get a little red exclamation mark❗️over the hamburger and opening it says alarms not available please rescan. Sometimes I need to rescan 4 or 5 times before the warning clears. anyone any ideas for a fix?? TIA

Everything is fine except 2 things are very abnormal:

1. The following steps are slow:

bash starting network starting early daemons: syslogd pflogd ntpd.
It takes around 15 seconds, then this:

1. Why the ld process is still running after finishing booting and already login, this guy holds around 600% CPU for a few minutes. I need to wait for 6~8 seconds for every command (e.g. clear) before seeing the response...

For the last 4 years i’ve managed to avoid every single spoiler for this game in existence, i know basically nothing about it besides that it has some sadder themes to it. I’ve heard people talking about it and how much they love the story or how it made them cry, and i’ve been SO excited to finally play it and experience it for myself. I thought it would be a similar experience to other games I really liked (undertale, stardew valley, night in the woods, etc) where it’s a better experience to just play it with no idea what anything is about and go through the game as normal by yourself. I bought the game a few weeks ago and I can’t bring myself to even get through the prologue.
I really hate the battle system, it confuses me soooo much and even when looking directly at the help manual i still don’t understand how anything in the battle system works or how to use it, especially the emotion system. I also am just not connecting with any of the characters, they all feel so bland, even the silly and “quirky” npcs. I’ve played for nearly 5 hours and it’s basically consisted of me wandering around trying to avoid random encounters and battles as much as possible and being annoyed by how unclear the directionality in the game is. I have no idea where i’m supposed to go or what to do 90% of the time and i feel like i’m just walking around aimlessly and it’s frustrating.
I’m sad because i really want to consume this game naturally and have no outside information “ruin” the experience, but at this point i genuinely don’t like the gameplay and I’m considering either watching a let’s play or just not even bothering with it anymore.
Idk, am I the only one who is really turned off by the game loops in Omori?? Am i just bad at video games lol?? Should i give up and just watch a youtuber play it?

As a kid growing up, I still remember my birthday where I got my Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure, and Speed Devils. This would forever be one of my favorite systems of all time. I have been using emulation for 12+ years....back when in order to play a library of 10 or so DC games, you needed 5 different emulators. Well look where we are now with DC emulation. Flycast has been so kind to provide us with the ability to dump and load custom textures.

Saddly, There are very, VERY few DC texture packs, and I can understand as the graphics in DC games tend to be brighter colors, less realistic, and more cartoony/arcade type graphics which was its charm. I have decided to change this. I will have a few projects going at once, and every day i will release updated packs for the games I am currently working on. This is my very first pack ever. Everything is set, you simply make a folder called Textures, (only if one dose not exist here \flycast\data\Textures), Extract the folder in my archive in to this Textures folder, I have the original img for every one i remade in the folder. the names are the same except the original file has 'OR" before the name ( NEW: 123abc.png / OLD: BKP123abc.png)
NOTE:Leaving "BKP" files shouldn't effect anything, as they are not the named files that the game is looking to pull, so you can leave them there, or delete them, as they are just for refrence and will bened up in future updates.,.
TIPS TO MAKE SURE THINGS RUN PERFECTLY.

• PIXEL BUFFER SIZE- Setting this higher allows for larger resolution textures (up scaled or from a pack) to load in faster, simply put.
• Dial Back GFX Settings- REMEMBER, You set your settings to run the textures at their native resolutions, so while the more textures I swap out, the more you might see some Performance dips, PICK THE RIGHT PACK FOR YOU. I am now making 3 pakcs for every game, ALL 3 willl ALWAYS be at teh same level of compleation as the others, jsut easier to run with smaller res images.
• GFX API- This is the fix to like 80% of any issues with a game. If you are playing and things seem a bit wierd, just change the API. With my hardware my go to, is VULKAN, and OPENGL. You might get OPENGL and DX11 working best for you. I just use whatever one I am not using if a game acts up, and that helps things most opf the time, Give this a try with ANY issues in games, INCLUDING slowdowns.
• PICK THE RIGHT PACK- If you are like me, Yopu have your Internal Res set to 5X, and are in 4K on a nice big, expensive, 32in monitor. I ALSO game on a Retroid Pocket 4 PRO. It hit me, "We do NOT need the resolution I use on something like my RP4, even on my 17 in laptop screen... and the storage limitations of portable systems are usually more strict. Why don't I make packs geared more for the RP4 type players? THIS WAY, more users can enjoy the packs for their specific setup." So I looked in to how I can do this while NOT giving up to much in the quality end, and I came to this conclusion. Three packs per game, HQ, MQ, and LQ. This way, Even on a RP4 type device, I can enjoy the packs, with out effecting performance, and on the tiny screen, it STILL looks just as good. So, IF your having issues running my packs, try the next step down. I didnt just take every file and compresse it. I did it per Resolution grouping, bringing larger textures down more, and smaller textures very little. This way, The fine details should still be vivid in the smaller packs. I hope this helps more users enjoy my hard work, and now.... I want to thank you for enjoying these packs. Anything I can do better, PLEASE let me know.

UPDATE FOR DIFFERENT REQUIREMENT PACKS....
Low Powered Devices, Low Storage Situations, Or Just Smaller Screens...
UPDATE*. Today I realized, I got my new 32 in 4k g7 neo samsung oddessy monitor, and i needed MORE. More resolution. More pixels, just MORE. So I decided, "not everybodys devices can handle MORE", so I decided to make 3 resource levels of packs for potatos thru Gaming Rigs. I am going to go thru the packs I currently have, and make 3 different packs for every game. They will all be updated in sync, so one "Quality level" will always have the same textures across the board, but this way, users on low end/mobile devices can enjoy the packs as well! You dont need reolutions this high on small screens, and thoes devices might have trouble loading in textures that are bigger then needed on a tiny screen, so I took all the textures, and compressed them depending on their size.. I did this seperate, So its not like I just said "take all textures, and cut them in half." No. Then the smaller, already acceptable textures would lose quality, so Depending on the original sizes, every files was changed independently. Keeping the best image overal, while making it easier to load, and take less space ondeviecs with smaller storages, as some of these packs get very large.. so watch for these updates over the next couple days in all the games. Now, Every pack will have 3 characters you must remove from the packs after uncompression. Just edlt the "_LQ", "_MQ", or the "_HQ" from the end of the packs inorder for flycast to see the pack,This is simply a sorting method for me and users that have multiple versions in case you wanted to test multiple packs this way they can be sorted and organized better.\*
HQ- This will be the standard you have known to come to love from me. Now I might use some slghtly higher res textures then I currently do, but as long as my 2070 mobile can play it, Then That is my goal for the HQ packs. Best image, largest size packs, and most resources needed but tthese are ment for users playing on large 1080/4k devices with a little more horsepower under the hood then the average emulator. Usually, if your device tends to play games at 3-5x resolution, using these packs SHOULDN'T make things to much harder for anydevice already playing on that level, worst case is you maybe bump the Internal Resolution down a step or so, and go from there. JUST REMEMBER, if you have any issues, try one of the other 2 pack versions, MQ or LQ.... I would try things like making sure you have your render buffer size is as large sas you can get, and remember, the new textures are what is taking the most resources to load. some times, relaoding a level or Giving 'er the good ole "Savestate,Loadstate" to reload, I find some levels, Just wait a few moments for everything to not only render NORMALLY, but then get replaced, then enjoy your gaming.
MQ- In these packs, Anybody on a laptop, or similar set up will be more than happy and might not even NOTICE the difference between HQ and MQ packs. This is not to say this wont look good on a 85in screen, all my packs, even MQ and LQ versions, are specially designed to give you the most prestine and sharp image you can get, while at times, just toneing it down becuase many users are not on large 4k displays playing in 4k, so if that is not how you enjoy your gaming, now these packs will help you get the perfect mix of quality, size, and performance based on your specific setup. You do not need anything crazy to run these, and can be used in any set up and will not fail to impress!
LQ- Now do NOT let the tiny size, Lower resolutions, and name "LQ" Fool you. There is NOTHING "Low Quality" about these packs. You still get the upscales you have come to love, and the new, much larger images have been toned down a little bit is all. This is PERFECT if you are on a portable device, or even smaller screen laptops! These are much smaller in both size, and resolution, but STILL looks great on thoes devices, and even on large screens, this is STILL a great looking pack, just now people with less then perfect setups can now enjoy Flycast HD Texture packs.

This was a port of an arcade game, and like the arcade games I do I am going to keep more so original, with maybe a hand ful of rep[lacements. I used the textures from the Naomi 2 Version,which were higher quality to start, and I Just bought a new model set for my AI upscailing ( IF YOU CAN/WOULD WANT TO HELP ME TRAIN MODELS DM ME PLEASE, THIS IS A HUGE NEED, I WILL REWARD. So I will change out some, but not many so expect this to be done for now.

Years ago when I first got in to private torrent sites, before I opened my own, I had a small movement called the Rom Revival, where we made perfect and complete rom packs for every console... and made Retro Arch type packs for the older systems... and over the years, I have continued to keep these packs and torrents avaiable on my own tracker to keep allowing the public to be able to access any and every rom they could ever want, without having to go google, digging around the sketchy, very slow sites to be able to download what ever rom one at a time. Hey there, folks! So, I've got a spiffy 2009 CBEA Jetta with some snazzy mods like a spicy stage 2 Malone tune and Rawtec exhaust, stage 2 South Bend Endurance clutch, and DMF. Thing is, I'm experiencing a hesitation between 1200 and 2500 rpm at 30%-60% throttle. It's like the car's going through puberty again and the voice is cracking. But hey, at least it's pulling hard at full throttle, right? Its been noticeable for about 500km. I'm pretty sure I didn't accidentally introduce any water to the fuel system during that pesky rainstorm I had to fill up in. So it's probably just a fun little coincidence. The VW's got 260k km on it and has been tuned for 10k and iv been thrashing it (its a lot of fun). I've been doing oil changes every 8000km and timing belt/water pump replacement at 200k. Before the tune, it sat for three years, but I made sure to start it up monthly and let it purr to warm up. So, any ideas on how to check the hpfp, injectors and turbo with VCDS? Could it be anything else? Anyone else experienced anything similar?

My girlfriend and I set the alarm for the same time during the week and then slightly later on a weekend. We still get up fairly early. For the last few weeks I've started waking up naturally around 60-90 mins before the alarm.
Once I'm awake I struggle to get back to sleep so I've been getting out of bed and either reading or watching tv in the living room. When the alarm goes off I'll go into the bedroom to see my gf.
Last night she asked why I kept getting out of bed early instead of just staying in bed when I wake up. I mentioned that I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep but she said I could just lay and cuddle her. I mentioned that time would drag if I was just laid their for 90 mins and that I wouldn't want to wake her up.
She said she wouldn't wake and that she'd prefer I cuddled her. I apologised but told her I'd still be getting out of bed if I woke up as I can't just spend 90 mins doing nothing. She said she shouldn't be waking up each day on her own and that I should be in bed with her.
I suggested setting the alarm earlier but she didn't want to get up earlier so she said no so I just told her that I'd still be getting out of bed when I woke up.
She just said I wasn't considering her or thinking about her and that I should be in bed with her when she wakes up. I personally don't see the issue but can anyone give me another perspective on this or any advice on how to handle it?

I just found this battery in a locked box inside one of our closets. We bought the house almost five years ago, but never used the alarm system that was built-in. It appears to have corrosion at the black terminal and on the top edge. It also appears to have fluid starting to seep out on the side under the blue top (may be hard to see). I haven't manipulated the battery yet so I'm not sure if this is the full extent of the "damage".
I have little ones so I'm particularly afraid of the potential for lead exposure via dust, air, etc. from this. Is the battery fluid or corrosion likely to have lead? Should I buy some test kits?
My plan is to cut the wires and get rid of them along with the battery so there's no corroded parts left behind (I won't be replacing it with a new one). Is there anything else I can do to make sure any microscopic bits of lead are taken care of in the box and the surrounding closet? I know lead is hard to deal with so I'm not sure how I can best protect my family. I know this may sound OCD, but I'm just trying to do whatever I can. I'll be wearing gloves and taking caution to not disturb the battery or potential lead dust as I remove it and I'll be calling my waste management to dispose of it properly. Any advice is helpful, thank you in advance!
