hello, hope everyone is doing good! long story short, i broke up with my bf a few weeks back. what happened was: he was extremely cold and uncaring JUST with me (he said he was going through a rough patch in his life so he couldnt be as affectionate, however, when he was with his friends, he was completely normal, attentive, chatty and happy); he made 0 effort to talk to me (i came home from work everyday wanting to chat and be with him and he never talked and wanted to be alone); whenever i tried to talk to him, i felt like i was talking to a brick wall, i was the only one talking.
he had always been chatty and very curious about my day and always asked questions, he was very present but became very distant. this lasted for around 3 weeks. i felt like my presence wasnt wanted nor needed.
at the same time this was happening, i always saw his status appearing as Online on instagram, at the time he was supposed to be asleep, while i was away at work (i work very early mornings). i say 'as he was supposed to be asleep' bc he would text me back( like 5 hours after) saying 'good morning, just woke up'.
i know apps can bug and can be faulty, but this has never happened before in the 7 months we were dating, and it kept happening EVERYDAY for 3 whole weeks.
him texting and talking to another girl honestly didnt even cross my mind bc idk if he'd be the type to do that, but i got a little insecure bc the first thing he used to do when he woke up was text me, it was a little cute thing we had, our dynamic. we texted a lot! i really used to feel like i was the first thing on his mind whenevrr he woke up, and i had gotten a little sad thinking he now was waking up, spending hours alone, and lying about his waking hours just so he doesnt have to text me back. this + him being so distant carved a little hole in my heart and i began to think he really didnt like my presence that much.
so i decided to talk to him about it, to let him know i had been feeling a bit uncared for and a little insecure; i explained how i always saw him online for hours and i also mentioned how he wasnt the way he was with me with his friends, and if he could please show me he still cared through reassuring me or something.
i didnt think this problem would escalate and i never even considered breaking up with him, to me it was just an 'asking for reassurance' type of thing; however, he got super defensive and lashed out at me.
he told me the app is wrong and hes never online, and that i dont know what im talking about. he said i was essentially accusing him of lying and he was super pissed at me.
he didnt reassure me at all; and his way of fixing this situation? he turned off his status activity so i couldnt see him online anymore, and said: 'there, now u cant see shit'.
i felt disrespected bc to me it showed he was more concerned over being seen as a 'liar', than to actually reassure me and than to make sure i felt loved, and so i broke up with him. he saw me very nervous and crying my eyes out while i was being vulnerable and sharing my feelings (i struggle a bit with that as i tend to bottle things up) and all he did was defend himself while being rude and insensitive. this was a few weeks back. i dont know if i overreacted but at the time it felt like the right thing to do.

What happened
During the gruelling campaign against the Hrud where Petra and the Anvil fought side by side together with their legion they suddenly received an emergency message from Olympia sent by Petra’s adoptive sister Calliphone. The message went on to deliver the news that Olympia have fallen into disarray with the widespread discontent devolving into outright violence and a civil war ensued. This devastating news led to Petra having to cut her campaign short right on the eve of the decisive battle against the last of the Hrud, deeming the threat to be mostly neutralised and Olympia being a bigger priority.
On their journey returning to Olympia, there was a heated discussion between Petra , her inner circle known as the Trident and The Anvil on the most appropriate course of action. While Petra wanted to swiftly end the conflict by putting down all the warring factions violently and eliminate all those responsible for Olympia falling into such disarray, her Anvil, ever the diplomat at heart suggest only eliminating those who refuse to stand down and come to the negotiating table to resolve the cause of discontent and reform the planet’s government to prevent such an incident from ever occurring again. Despite everyone, including Petra herself, agreeing to this course of action, it was all for naught as when the Iron Warriors landed on Olympia, they were immediately fired upon by one of the many insurrectionist factions. Already being enraged from having to cut the Hrud campaign short, such an act of defiance, by her own home world no less, proved to be the last straw as the Countess of Iron immediately rescinded her previous orders and instead ordered the Iron warriors to eliminate of anyone even showing any hint of resistance or sympathy towards the insurgents.
Immediately after Petra’s new orders were issued, the Anvil left and informed several likeminded officers who , along with the men under their command, decided to join their Primarch’s lover in stopping this madness. They immediately contacted Calliphone and began coordinating evacuation efforts and delaying the Iron Warriors under Petra for as long as possible by causing deliberate miscommunication and sowing general confusion within the ranks with the help of those Iron Warriors who while sympathetic to their cause dared not to openly oppose their Primarch. This was met with relative success as several units of Iron Warriors “accidentally” marched on an uninhabited area on the planet or deliberately loudly discussing Petra’s latest orders within earshot of Olympian citizens. Despite this relative success, many Iron Warriors, especially those under Petra’s direct command, still followed through with the Primarch’s orders which led to the death of at least over half of the planet’s population with thousands remaining unaccounted for.
The deception could not go on forever however, and Petra soon learn of the actions of her lover and adoptive sister. Enraged and confused by the actions of the two people she trusted most, the countess of Iron stopped her assault and contacted both the Anvil and Calliphone under a flag of truce to discuss the matter and understand why they would go to such lengths for people she perceived as “traitors and rebels”. Petra and her officers arrived at the agreed upon location for the truce to find only her lover and Calliphone waiting there. It is not fully known what truly transpired during the discussion but it ultimately ended with Calliphone’s death and the Anvil being allowed to peacefully leave Olympia alongside all the people they’ve saved , the soldiers and Iron Warriors who chose to follow them.
Years later, a rumor within the legion would surface telling of what happened with the alleged source of this story being one of the officers who accompanied Petra to the truce negotiations. According to this rumor, it was said that the discussion got heated when Calliphone began berating the Primarch about how she should’ve contacted Calliphone first and that Petra has “taken things too far”. Offended by such remarks from a “mere mortal” one of the junior officers accompanying Petra grabbed her by the throat and strangled her on the spot. This drew the ire of Petra who felt that the officer had not only violated her command but made her into an oathbreaker, the Primarch then proceeded to beat the officer to death with her bare hands on the spot before accepting the terms presented by her lover and allow them to leave in peace as is officially known.
Once the Anvil and those that have accompanied her had left Olympia, Petra had begun creating the design for the robots that would later become known as The Iron Circle as she felt that she no longer had anyone she could fully trust by her side. Meanwhile, the Anvil sought out the warsmith Barabas Dantioch who assisted them in properly organising a fleet and finding a relatively unknown and well hidden planet to temporarily act as a base for both the refugees of Olympia and the soldiers and Astartes who followed them.
Once the heresy had broken out the Anvil was initially horrified and appalled by Petra’s actions on Istvaan V. However, horror soon made way for concern once a member of the Trident contacted the Anvil, informing them of the events that transpired on Iydris and how Petra nearly died at the hands of her own sister, Fulgrim. Determined to settle their conflicting emotions of horror for her prior actions and concern given the recent events that occurred they decided to confront Petra one last time to discuss the future of their relationship.
The Anvil chose to make their way towards Terra knowing that the traitors would definitely concentrate all their forces there and hoping to confront Petra alongside most of their Astartes and soldiers while leaving the Olympian refugees under the protection of a small garrison force. However, their fleet were suddenly intercepted by an Alpha Legion warship who informed them that they should avoid entering the Sol system as the siege of Terra was already well underway and gave them information on how Petra and the Iron Warriors would soon be replaced by the Death Guard as the ones leading the siege of Terra along with how the Warmistress sought to use the Iron Warriors on Terra as a spearhead to soak up most of the casualties before sending in her own legion into the fray. Understanding that such actions could unnecessarily put Petra in great danger, the Anvil chose to forward all of this information along with a message to meet and talk about their relationship and “forever home” later using a direct communication device given to them by Petra before departing Olympia all those years ago. The Anvil later received a reply from Petra thanking them for the information and was informed that the given info was one of the deciding factors in her decision to abandon the siege of Terra. The message then went on to state that they should meet and discuss their future together after she settled things “one last time” with her sister Dorn.
Later on, the Anvil received another message from an agent of the Alpha Legion stating that they should ”Head to Sebastus IV as soon as possible, or risk losing the one you love forever”. Given that this was from the same Alpha Legionnaire who informed them of the siege of Terra, they chose to believe it and immediately head for the planet alongside their retinue of men. The Anvil arrived at the “Eternal Fortress” on the planet near the end of the battle that would later be known as the “Iron Cage”. While the battle was nearly over the Anvil finally managed to confront Petra just as she was about to begin her ritual of sacrificing Imperial Fist gene seed to ascend to daemonhood.
When they were reunited for the first time in years, the Anvil began pleading for Petra to just abandon the ritual and leave together to a peaceful place where they can settle down and build their “Forever Home” together. After a moment of silence that seemed to last an eternity, Petra finally ordered the gene seed to be removed from her presence ordered a general withdrawal and departed with her lover before the Ultramarines arrived to relieve the fists.
In her final actions as the leader of her legion Petra guided them to the planet of Medrengard and built the fortress there to act as their new base of operations and left her legion under the command of the Trident before giving the Astartes in her legion a choice between peacefully retiring to the hidden world where the descendants of the refugees from Olympia resides or continue the long war here in Medrengard.
Once all was said and done, Petra relinquished the command of her legion and departed her lover abroad the Iron Blood, guarded by The Iron Circle. Finally leaving all the war and bloodshed behind for good and depart for their “Forever Home”.
Afterword: Oh man this one took quite a bit of work lol I was gonna write about what they’re currently up to in the 41st millennium but I just felt that leaving it open ended like this is probably better.
As for the nickname “Anvil” that was something I came up with myself based on Perty’s canon nickname of the “Hammer of Olympia” so I decided to make the SO an anvil to go along with Petra’s hammer. It’s also a reference to how anvils acts a workbench for the hammer and help support/soak up the hammer’s strikes much like the pair’s relationship dynamic.

To abandon the body is to leave the Headship of Christ (1Cor.12:21,25; Col.2:19). It must be remembered, that the body of Christ needs to be sustained by means of it's "parts", whenever those parts are present on earth. We learn so much from these words of Christ. But I would point you to the fact that a steward would be present, when Christ ARRIVES (which he has not yet done 1Cor.11:26). Another fact, is that when that slave is found faithful upon Christ's return, he will be appointed over ALL the Master's belongings in the Kingdom of God, which also has not yet occurred (Psalm2:8,9). MANY slaves will be brought into account, when the master arrives (Matt.25:19). ALL will have to account for what work they did, with what Truth they were given (Matt.25:21,23; 28:19,20; 12:36,37; 1Pet.4:10). One fact backed by many scriptures, is that the living waters of truth would increase as the Kingdom drew near (Dan.12:4,9,10; Rev.22:10,1). Ezekiel relates that this water would increase as the Temple was neared completion (Eze.47:1-12; Rev.22:2; Zech.4:11, 14; Rev.11:4). After being a member of the subreddit for years and seeing hundreds if not thousands of posts it has become clear to me that some of you struggle with helping yourself. By which I mean you struggle understanding what you need to ask for help properly. I have drawn up some good advice on how to ask for help. I hope this is helpful for some people.
So you have a problem with Plex. You're not tech literate. Or have little experience with troubleshooting software and networking. Maybe you also have no experience handling IT support tickets or writing them. Possibly you are tech literate but the problem you have is a real mystery. You've come to the right place. Before you post your question let's take a look at a few things.
1. Have you reasonably searched for a solution to your problem?
Search for your problem on Google, DuckDuckGo, YouTube, or the built-in Reddit search for this subreddit. There is a very high probability that someone has already run into the same problem. As much as everyone's ecosystems are all unique to their use case, they are not really unique in general. A vast majority of users are runninig bare metal on Windows or Linux, or in a Docker container. There isn't that much deviation. For sure there are those of us out there running elaborate Proxmox + Kubernetes clusters and doing things like VIFO GPU passthrough. We are the exception. Odds are, someone has already asked your question.
You may want to consider how you are searching your problem. Have you been searching an exact error message? Typing something like "Plex is slow" into Google is extremely non-specific and not helpful. Leverage error messages, or specific scenarios when searching. Consider the conditions or operating systems you are using, and so on. Try to be specific when possible.
Try using keyword parameters in search engines. For example, you can add site:reddit.com to your Google search. Or -docker to exclude results not relevant to you. Maybe add something specifically in quotations " " to force that string of text to be present on results. There are tons of ways to leverage a search feature.
2. Have you asked an AI?
Whether you like it or not, AI is not going anywhere. ChatGPT in particular is solid for troubleshooting problems. GPT3.5 is free, but not amazing. GPT4 however is $20 a month and will be worth every penny you spend on it. Ask some friends, maybe someone you know has a subscription if you are not interested in paying for a one-time problem. In general, I highly recommend having an active subscription to ChatGPT4. I use it every single day when working on tech related problems. This is not school, you are not being graded on your ArPlex ecosystem. Use advanced tools to help make things easier on yourself. I promise you, general networking questions, Docker questions, virtualization questions, port fowarding, etc. are all things AI can handle with ease. It's exceedingly rare you are having a problem it can't help with unless you are dealing with heavy layers of abstraction in your set up.
3. Have you asked for help in other places before Reddit, or in conjunction with Reddit?
There are so many various resources out there where you may get a faster response from Reddit. And to a certain extent, better troubleshooting. IRC/Forums channels for private trackers (that you are downloading Linux ISOs from right... right...), Discords for other subreddits like homelab or datahoarders are great places to start. These guys are deep in the home lab game, you'd be a fool to think they are not running Plex. There are hundreds of online tech nerds hanging out in these channels who probably know the answer to your question.
It's also more responsive. If you ask a question, someone who wants to help may ask further questions. Or ask you to try various tasks and commands to see if it helps. There is a back and forth between you and the person helping you. On Reddit you have a much slower back-and-forth and if you ask too many questions in a thread it's liable to be hidden by Reddit or may never get enough eyes on it in the New feed.
4. Did you make a proper tech support ticket post?
So you've looked high and low. You can't find a thing on any search engines, no one in IRC or Discord has an answer for you, and you're up against a wall. It's time for writing a Reddit post to ask for help. Fair enough. But did you actually write a post that helps yourself as well as the people trying to help you?
Posting "I am having a problem. None of my posters will load. Help!" is not a sufficient way to ask for help. Here are some things you will want to include in your post when asking for help.

• What version of Plex you are running
• Any specific error messages you see
• Any errors or warnings found in the Plex logs
• Screenshots of the problem
• Relevant network set up information
• Things you have already tried to fix the problem
• Variables or things that may have changed recently in your set up
• Other relevant software in the ecosystem that may touch Plex

We cannot help you if we don't have the appropriate amount of context. If I had to really hammer a few of those in, "things you have already tried" and "specific error messages from logs" are the big ones. It saves time ruling things out. It helps people who are better at looking up problems than yourself find the relevant information. Even the best of IT guys don't have this memorized. Here's an industry secret for you: the IT guy doesn't know why it's broken either. They are just better at Googling things than you from many years of slaving away in the StackOverflow mines. You need to give the IT help as much information as possible. In fact, overshare when possible. It's way easier to ignore non-relevant information than it is to drag that information out of you.
This all seems like obvious advice. People who are stressed when something is broken generally are not thinking very logically. Bookmark this post. When you have a problem, refer to it. Skim it over. Ask yourself if you have satisfied all of this. I guarantee that you will see better results troubleshooting your problem if you follow this advice.

I’m looking for different ways to present content to my students. I teach Chemistry and Physics. The first year and half of teaching I used PowerPoints heavily and students filled in guided notes. Often times, I felt that this was just going in one ear and out the other. Seemed like most were bored and not retaining information. This semester I pivoted to filling in the guided notes with them in my chemistry classes. A lot mentioned they liked this method better. However, then I find it difficult to ask in-depth questions or make it interactive. I’d like to know how you all present direct information to your students. I thought about putting videos online and they have to watch those to do labs/activities the next day. Okay this is not specifically Taylor AND Travis, but I feel this sub would get where I am coming from.
Now I am not one to ever compare one individual's mental health conditions that may be with another person. Everyone has their own struggles and challenges they go through, even if the severity differs. However, in this situation, I would like to put my two cents in on a subject many of us already have started to discuss: Taylor's usage of mental illness, mental institutions, and just overall angst she has been harbouring since TTPD's announcement to present times. As others have pointed out before me, it has never been confirmed if Taylor has any medical condition or has any mental disorder. She did confirm back in 2019 though I believe, she has never gone to therapy as she sees her mom as the only therapist she ever could need (if it has changed since then, please let me know). To be honest, yes, it's not our place to know if she doesn't want to share, about anything involving herself, especially like mental health, as it's a personal subject for many, whether famous or not. Also I truly think therapy while super helpful for some, may not be the right for others in contrast. It genuinely depends on each individual on what they need and what works best for them. Alas, whatever we want to call Taylor is doing for the TTPD era with the usage and imagery of mental illness, personally I'm not only over it but disgusted by it.
For starters, we are led to think all this imagery and wordplay and overall presentation of mental illness and mental institutions and lobonomies etc are solely due to her broken heart over a former love (popular suggestion says it's for Matty Healy but some think it's still Joe and some think it's for other people completely or even other situations). We're left with solely her songs and her choices in words both in songs and in real life, to theorize what they could be alluding to. I have seen many Gaylors suggest these are influenced by the LGBTQIA+ was and have been treated in mainstream society. How, homosexuality was even listed an actual illness not so long ago unfortunately.
But for the sake of calling a spade a spade and being simplistic, I am just going to follow the popular belief that this era is just her choice of showing her reaction and feelings towards some ex-lover and feeling scorned by them, most likely it's Matty. Or least the grand majority of the songs seem to lean in his not so favour. That being said (and as someone who has been there with Taylor since Debut), she could have honestly chose a better direction. Mental illness isn't a joke to make people laugh at parties. It isn't a trend or the latest accessory to buy at the mall. It's not something you can just shake off and pretend it's done by the next album. It's real and it's really affects your every day life. Just as mental institutions are no joke. They're not fun playgrounds to meet potential besties at. It's literally a place that originally people were sent to against their will. Even in present times, some people are still sent to them against their will. Yes, some go now voluntarily, but it isn't always the case. I understand being heartbroken and something like ghosting can make one feel emotionally vulnerable and hurt on a multitude of levels. I just wouldn't justify making chronic word usage of "asylums", "madhouses", phrases like "they sent me away" or referencing coming straight from the hospital if she just meant it "symbolically". I get she could have easily meant Hollywood and stardom especially like she has experienced, is a crazy experience to endure, but in that case, it seems like her previous analogies of a circus works better without offending potential parties or people with actual experiences with mental institutions and/or mental illness. It reminds me of how several people say something like "I always wash my hands, I'm OCD" or "War time flashbacks, I got PTSD from *names a very underwhelming situation that disturb a person slightly*", It's careless and callous wording all around. The fact we have even seen some of Taylor's so-called fans start to make their own medical bracelets to play up this theme is disturbing in my opinion. Again mental illness isn't some necklace to show off like a diamond studded piece.
I'm not saying Taylor couldn't have felt maddened in a way by her experiences that inspired TTPD thus how she chose to display this era and such. In my own personal experience without going too much into it, I had my own ghosting experience a few years back that wasn't fun in any way, and it was with someone, who reassured me for months on end that they were going to stay and we'd always be in each other's lives so obviously my trust and faith were both shaken when I noticed one night, I got blocked from all their social media and they didn't answer any call or text I left. However, I didn't go around not only acting like a tortured Victorian woman, who was imprisoned against her own will in a sanitarium but marketing myself as one and even trying to trademark a term I clearly didn't create. Granted say Taylor hypothetically went through a whole bunch of worst case scenarios: loved ones dying, friends leaving her when she needed them the most, people she care for getting sick, potential bankruptcy, etc then fuck, I get her reason behind using all this theme and the imagery as well. But I am going to take the benefit of the doubt and say she really chose a serious topic and things associated with it, just because something went awry again with her and some person she dated unfortunately. And what makes it even more vulgar in my opinion is it's not even like her first break up. It's much more than her first rodeo at this game yet she chose to display all of her feelings for it this time in perhaps, one of the worst ways. She is being insensitive to the ones who actually have been in mental institutions, whether by choice or not, and/or are suffering from mental illness. Again maybe she has something too, maybe not but regardless, she seems tone-deaf to the bigger picture here, similar to her using soldier terminology despite never been at war or even in service.

Several artists in comparison have been public with their mental health situations and don't even choose to use this type of imagery for themselves. They'll mention it time from time, but it's definitely not treated like a personality trait from them. It's just an aspect of them but not the whole picture. The fact she's even referring to herself as "The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department" sounds like the combination of one of the most pretentious and woe is me crock I have ever heard. We don't see Morrissey calling himself, "The Pope of Mope" (yes, the fans do but he doesn't) and I doubt we'd see Robert Smith call himself, "The King of Sad". Yet Taylor who has had what seemed like a well off childhood and many good things happen to her and never seemed to brand herself as anything less than cheery adjectives for more over a decade, it just sounds so off-putting now she's trying to play the tragic role like it's natural or genuine.
I find it important to note, one particular musician named Emilie Autumn, has been inspired by the Victorian era for her whole career and real life "tortured" writers , along with incorporating the whole asylum analogy long before Taylor, but in sheer contrast, it was documented she actually went to a psych ward in a book she published in 2009. In the book itself, she discusses what it was in both a fictional way and factual way of what she went through as well showcasing how women were treated there in present times compared with the 1800s hasn't changed that much. She wanted to write the book to empower women though and to rise above the turmoil and be stronger because of it. She was no victim here (nor trying to just use it "alt points"). She has since (and even before the book) been very open about her experiences with mental illness (she's openly bipolar and the abuse she's endured over the years, as well her songs show she's not afraid to tackle the harder subjects) and what's it really like to be in a psych ward. I feel Emilie Autumn accomplished making mental illness a subject we can understand and even relate to, without it feeling gimmicky or a cash grab until she comes up with another aesthetic. Again I'm not saying Taylor's life story has been nothing but peaches and cream though, I recognize it hasn't been. And again she isn't expected to tell us her entire medical history and every blemish she ever had, but I don't support nor think her going around at her concerts with her dancers dressed as nurses and doctors and her using mental institutions as settings when she has been so mum on the subject of mental health, whether hers or in general, is a good look especially if she's just doing it to songs about how a guy stopped pursuing her and they weren't even together for that long. It comes off disrespectful and even condescending to the ones, who really have mental conditions and we can't just shake it off with a dance number. I'm sorry she got hurt (whether she still is or was is debated), but it doesn't give her a free pass to use something as heavy as this as just an aesthetic and equally turning a blind eye when some of her fans think it's just a lighthearted thing too. I will never get over how so many are now using asylums so loosely, like "OMG this album makes me crazy, send me to an asylum next". That's fucked up to say the least. Ultimately, I just hope this phase changes fast, and hopefully, Taylor can heal from whatever she is or isn't singing about, and more people step in when an idea is just isn't a good one.

“That’s the third time the call was dropped.” Hoagie states the obvious.
“From what I can tell they’re being hacked like it’s the latest fad. Even if our call goes through clean it’s going to be seen by an audience of several billion at least.” Demon replies. His tiny little girl is sitting on his shoulder so everyone’s watching their language, even Zsebreza. Sure, Kathy was growing quick and was developing a good sense of humour, but not even Minisi wanted to be responsible for teaching her the naughty words.
It takes several more tries with the bridge crew chuckling at things before suddenly the link is accepted to find a thoroughly unamused Asian Man glaring at them. The man then lets out a breath. “Two hundred and eighty six separate calls with the image of a woman presenting herself. I have never been simultaneously flattered and insulted.”
“Spoiled for choice sir?” Demon asks.
There is a moment of a pause as the man’s eyebrow quirks in frustration. “Yes.”
“I’m afraid it’s a common issue the galaxy over sir, we humans are hot commodity. Even a hideous slob of a man would find himself inundated with attention. A competent man with goals, ideals and motivation? A feast before the starving sir.” Hoagie says.
“Clearly Officer Eastman.” He says before relaxing a little. “I am Observer Wu. I have been charged by the nations of Earth with baring impartial witness to what has occurred the galaxy over. I have already spoken to several pockets of humanity, including but not limited to three other space stations, the newly risen nobility of Vucsa and of course, The Dauntless and the Embassy on Centris.”
“So what are you looking for? We’ve sent back numerous eyewitness testimonies and as much in the way of resources and proof of our claims that can survive the damaging effects of Cruel Space. A fair portion of exotic material and cadavers were actually supplied from this very station. What more do you need?”
“I just wish to speak with people. I will be communicating with and travelling to every major locations where humans have touched in the galaxy. To see the truth of things with unclouded eyes.” Observer Wu says and there are some nods. “Now then, if you could describe your location and posting please?”
“Certainly, we’ll do that in reverse though if you don’t mind.”
“I do not.”
“We are posted here to both ensure that we have friendly contacts in an area of interest and to learn more about the galaxy at large. Between ourselves and our fellows posted at other stations we are writing the operations manual for how to maintain, police, administrate, protect and supply a fully functional space station with a substantial permanent population. We’re also recruiting and keeping our eyes out for unusual technologies, tactics and techniques. This station alone contains a permanent population that rivals several first world nations on Earth with an industrial capacity well beyond what those nations can provide.”
“Can it now? This station is self sustaining? Food, air and other such supplies?”
“It turns out that a great deal of air is released by harvesting asteroids. Most of them contain a large amount of ice, even when they’re primarily minerals of some kind. Food is grown in hydroponics on such a scale we outright export it. The mining provides the metals and other materials for further products and again, hydroponics of a different source give us oils which leads to plastics, cloth comes in too. The station is completely self sustaining at this point. If the rest of the galaxy was to vanish then all we need are some rocks and we can keep this place going forever.” Demon explains and Observer Wu nods.
“And have you learned about these techniques and technologies?”
“Yes, however many of them are reliant upon Axiom.”
“And the control of the station?” He asks and Minisi pokes at a few of them with her tentacles to get people to shift away. “And you are... the woman in charge I believe?”
“Indeed. Although not for too much longer. I’ve had my fun but the station has become a tedium. I will admit that your species showing up has broken up the monotony a touch, but only enough to give me enough time to really make sure my heiress has this place on lock and with an unmatched command crew.”
“And you’re fine with them having that level of power?” Observer Wu asks and Minisi has a tentacle point right down at Hoagie.
“This one has been in charge of over ten percent of my station. The most productive Agriculture Decks we have are in his power, both officially and unofficially. The businesswomen there fear the flamingo shirts!”
“Hey, I got flowers on at least half of them.” Hoagie protests and she turns to him.
“Hey hey hey! Station boss or not, no horning on my hubby!” Zsebreza says buzzing into view and pressing back on the woman who leans back in amusement.
“You Charbis are so easy to rile up...” She says fondly as Zsebreza sheathes her weapon while still giving her a massive stinkeye.
“So that video was not an elaborate prank in horrific taste.” Observer Wu notes.
“Reality is stranger than fiction sir.” Hoagie notes.
“Indeed it is, and now that you’ve confused me, I am going to return the favour.” Observer Wu states and Hoagie looks from side to side and everyone else is equally baffled.
“Sir?” Hoagie asks as Observer Wu presses a button on his armrest and requests for a certain passenger to be sent up. “What is this...”
He freezes entirely as the camera shifts and he can see... “Mom?”
“Daniel!” Janet Eastman says with a smile. “And... one of those... things that got you.”

“But it would clearly have been faked in some way and...” Hoagie trails off. “I... are you alright? The way out of Cruel Space is no fun.”
“It.. it was not pleasant, but I worked in the kitchens for most of it and it kept me busy.” She says.

“A starship mess hall is NOTHING like a Corner Bistro in New York.” Janet says and he chuckles.

“Yeah, it’s not much better when you’re trained for it.” Hoagie says. “Are you coming here?”
“Of course! Those videos were horrifying! If those girls are walking all over you like that then I don’t care if I’m numbered two hundred to one or two thousand to one! I didn’t work my butt off as a waitress when you were a little boy just to see a bunch of bees walk all over you! So I’m putting you on notice!” She growls out.
“Okay lady, I’m giving you the private number, because I love that attitude. And because we need to get ahead of this before there’s a war kicked off.” Zsebreza promises.
“There is no war that’s going to kick off. Mother, Charbis are a very defensive species and refuse to let people see their relaxed state unless they have absolute trust. No exceptions. That’s why you’ve never seen them in anything less than one of their most agitated states. When not safely in the hive a Charbis is only a few moments away from violence.”
“Is the hive like a beehive?”
“It’s not made of waxy hexagons. It’s a bunker with innumerable defences and very comfortable on the inside. They’re so reinforced and secure that it’s the most defensive part on the station barring the other Hives.”
“Hey, you’re really pushing it...”
“I haven’t said anything secret. I haven’t shown anything secret. Anyone with working eyes can see a Hive is nearly impossible to attack if they want to live, and with how wealthy and good with crops Charbis are in general, any idiot can figure out that they have plenty within the hive.”
“Well... yes, but the idea that anyone has any idea what the hives are like...” Zsebreza says and then Janet’s eyes widen as she realizes exactly what she’s seeing.

“Tough on the outside, everything you want inside? Pretty much.” Hoagie says and a very relieved Janet lets out a sigh of relief.

“Daniel. It’s okay. The old building was... well it was soon to be decommissioned anyway.”

He simply watches the video feed as mother and son speak. Trying to get a grip on the body language of the alien creatures. There’s a great deal of play and movement around the Charbis Bee woman, the ears are a massive tell on the Ikiya-Mas girl and the Mnenmi seemed utterly passive, in control. The men seemed either comfortable or excited and things seemed to be matching up.
Of course Mother Eastman was an open book to his practised eye, worried, putting on a brave front but the kind of woman who had given up her life to raise a child properly and was now chasing him out of not only maternal duty, but a sense of emptiness now that her great struggle was finished.
He knew her story. A sad tale of how to people, neither with families, had found each other and then shortly as life seemed to be picking up for the happy ending, an accident had taken the father, leaving a single mother to mourn and raise a child alone. A woman with no really marketable skills beyond being a woman and having a sympathetic story. She had been hired and remained hired at a moderately successful Bistro for over a decade, even being held on because she had a teenage son at home working a part time to help out.
Sad story, but one that had given her and the boy spines of steel. Still, open book regardless and...
His communicator goes off and he checks it. It is a text from an unknown number.

His eyebrows climb up a little and he reconsiders his thoughts on the octopus alien. She’s clearly very aware of things, and likely has the implants required to communicate without being obvious. Well that’s not useful. Is she just poking him for entertainment? She still hasn’t moved at all beyond basic shows of amusement as mother and son make plans to get her to the station and the Charbis daughter in law is putting on a clearly fake show of protesting having the woman be brought into the hive.
A hand falls onto his shoulder and he jumps in his seat a little before turning to see a smiling, but old and withered face. “Can I help you?”
“I was just wondering if I could make use of the communication relays next. As entertaining as the last few months were, I do think I should give a proper warning to my approach. If only to see how the boy responds.”
“Do you think he will respond poorly?”
“Only if he’s changed far more than I’d expect. But who knows? The mystery is half the fun of life now, isn’t it?” The elderly man says. Observer Wu considers for a few moments. This man had broken into his personal office without setting off an alarm, without alerting the guards and all the while needing a cane and with his joints audibly creaking.

The good things in life for me is any knowledge worth knowing, money, or financial value. Sometimes miracles happen, but its no excuse to be waiting on one forever. Coincidences in my life happen too often – I do have a particular interest in the intuitive i.e. scenarios exactly happening in real life before they happen. I can wait for miracles, but whilst I’m doing that, I will try and create them myself. I like learning other perspectives (so long as the other party presents their ideas in a justifiable, well-mannered response), I like learning in academics, so I try to work on that.
I have no control on the bad things in life – although I can be insecure about society’s views upon me, I remind myself that it doesn’t matter, I remind myself of dreams and goals I want to achieve for myself and the future, and hold on for as long as I can. Bad things in life come and go, but there’s no point in wallowing in emotion
Emotions is weird for me – I typically don’t want to have to do with anything emotions-based because it will cloud my problem-solving skills, or my future goals. Biases that impede my judgement could be that I may not care about morales, so I would usually side the majority opinion just to be left alone. It never works for some reason.
I’m very ambitious when it comes to life – I try to refrain from showing it, because I’m afraid others will be ahead. I compare myself to a lot of people to see how well I’m performing, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to ask about someone’s achievements, because I don’t find it humble. If people and obstacles are in my way, I evaluate the roadblock – if its something small (typically it is), I adapt/don’t care. If its big – I just feel melancholy, and in rare cases, confront the roadblock. It is most definitely okay to acquire essential needs by denying them to someone else. I want to be financially secure, have practical knowledge/knowledge for the sake of it, and try to be an all-rounded smart person
I’m pretty simple – all I ask is to be left alone, or to not be trivial and have some respect. People are inherently bad – am I going to do anything about it? No. I can’t be bothered, and I’d rather focus on myself. My duty is to graduate and leave my past behind. I’m not very close to family, or friends because I may not ever see them again. I guess parents owe anything to their child because it’s universal,.
introverted most of the time. I hate talking because I don’t care. Extroverted when it’s something that is interesting to me or benefits me. I feel alive by trying to get all my work done as soon as possible so I can enjoy having a fun time with nothing due.
I don’t need to fit in, but I don’t need to stand out. Social status is important in the sense that it will make me be left alone. Being disconnected doesn’t scare me – if I lost my family, I would accept that death happens by chance or whatever. I am definitely not ‘emo.’
Getting into a school, and realizing it wasn’t as great as you thought it was. the cohort sucks and I do have ideas to prevent the future generations to be awful, but I cannot be bothered sharing them because it’s their fault. people. people I expected more from – to be at least publicly decent, or in any way, contributing to society. no matter how sad it is to me, I can’t do anything about it, so I try to avoid the controversy triggers

I’ll try to make this short. I’m 32. I drank rather socially starting at age 19. Just beer mostly. I’d get drunk maybe twice a month until about 26. Then it became every weekend. Jack and cokes. Hung over as hell Sunday morning.
By the end of 2019 (age 28) I lost my job, gf, dog, and apartment. Ended up on unemployment. The drinking picked up to 3 sometimes 4 nights per week. At least a pint per night. We all know what came next..Covid.
I remained embarrassingly on unemployment and was now regularly drinking 4 nights per week minimum. This is where it gets interesting. I became aware that I had formed a problem. So I would attempt to not drink consecutive nights. Example Drinking Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. (The weekends didn’t count, definitely an alcoholic mindset) I did this all of 2020 and 2021.
Finally in 2022 I got myself back into the workforce. Thing is my schedule was 4 days on 3 days off. So I started staying sober 4 days for work then I’d drink 3 straight nights. This lasted until the end of 2023.
Now in 2024 my hours were cut down. Now I’m 3 days on 4 days off. To top it off I was put on 2nd shift hours. So I said fuck it and went back to a Mon, Wed, Fri, and sometimes Saturday schedule. Meaning I probably went into work hungover once a week.
Presently I’ve decided this can’t continue anymore. I’m now about to start a new job Mon-Fri 40 hours. I don’t want to end up drinking my weekends away or going to work hungover. I’m over it.
My question to you all is how bad am I? I’d like to note that during all these years there were at least 10 times where I’d cut off alcohol for a week and I wouldn’t feel any ill effects. I hear all these horror stories about people withdrawing and going through hell.
I’ve always felt like I had this strange control yet incredibly strong desire to keep this stupid drinking schedule. Keep in mind I’ve been easily polishing off 3-4 pints of whiskey per week since 2020. I feel no withdrawal effects coming off of it; however I can tell that my memory, concentration, and overall health are suffering.
Am I what they call a functioning alcoholic?
Is it possible to drink this much and not be physically addicted to it? I clearly have a dependency.
Has anyone else gone through something similar to this? If so how did you deal with it?

Ryo had already reached a state of full awareness after waking up, and yet he hadn't moved an inch, immersed in his inner world as he thought about what he and Elysira had done at night.
And what a wild night it was.
The way that she had skipped the journey to go straight for the finishing line had caught him unprepared. Still, with the mystery of their physical compatibility out of the way from the get-go, Ryo had been left with a lot of time to explore the other hiccups and perks of this interspecies endeavor.
From the occasional accident with her claws to the new possibilities her tail brought to the table, Ryo had enjoyed everything.
There was not an ounce of regret in him, but the memory of their last act lingered incessantly in his thoughts—a vivid Recollection of Elysira’s tail wrapping around his leg and letting silence prevail as his arm shyly enveloped her, allowing them to fall asleep side by side.
The one memory that held him in place, fearing their next interaction when the slightest of his movements would inevitably wake her up, mirroring what had happened all in the previous mornings.

Elysira’s head tilted away from the light as eyelids fluttered, but the only other thing she did before stopping moving was strengthening her grip on his leg quite a bit, making him realize that her tail had not let go of him the whole night.
Upon noticing how numb his leg felt, Ryo propelled his body upwards, intending to uncoil her tail from his leg and start his day. Hopefully, Elysira wouldn't mention what they did, and he too would be able to pretend it never happened.
However, the moment his upper body lifted from the ground and he got a full view of her body, he was unable to remove her tail from his leg, captivated by a simple but powerful sight.
With her hands inside the pockets, Elysira had used his jeans to restrain her claws, putting herself in a very uncomfortable position, likely afraid of hurting him during her sleep.
His eyes widened, dispersing his previous train of thought from existence. The hand that was supposed to be dealing with her tail moved toward Elysira's exposed neck instead, aiming to wake her up with a gentle touch.
And as if he had just perturbed the stillness of a calm lake with a stone, a barely perceptible ripple of yellow spread on her skin from the contact with his fingertips. It traveled through her neck, reaching the soft lines of her face, and even traveled down her long hair strands.
At the same time that it felt wrong to be able to take a peek at her emotions so easily, Ryo couldn't help but wonder—which other colors had the darkness stolen from him? While immersed in this question, Ryo kept caressing her neck until her eyes opened slowly, resetting all the back spots of her body at once as consciousness took control over instinct.
Elysira’s grip on his leg loosened when she realized she was overdoing it. Her gaze started scanning every inch of him, starting from the accidental scratches of her own making and unashamedly stopping at places she had not seen before.
Unbothered by her curiosity, he even removed some of the loose strands in front of her eyes and threw them behind her long ears to make her job easier, feeling some apprehension only when she lost interest and sought eye contact.
Traces of purple appeared around her black spots as she spoke. "What do you humans do after... what we did?"
Ryo winced, but his tone was gentle. "Silly girl!" He felt deep regret for how he had skipped the part of Irisian relationships in favor of politics when she was teaching him about her species. "It could be everything or nothing."
He expected some intense reaction from Elysira, but there wasn't a lot of emotion showing. As he searched her skin, he also realized he was unable to look at her the same way as before.
From seeing her small breasts, which he now knew for a fact fit on his hands, to the very memory of all evenness that he now was able to associate with the sheen her skin exhibited from certain angles, Ryo realized he had lost the ability to gauge her emotions without feeling a hint desire.
She noticed how long he was staring at her and a hint of yellow appeared. "I don't need everything, but nothing is not enough!"
How did Ryo fail to see that this conversation would inevitably happen when they were having fun at night?
"Oh!" He was unable to keep his mouth shut, which resulted in red and purple manifesting on her skin as he felt the pressure for a quick reply.
He had heard the Irisians speaking terms such as chosen, mate, and family, but Ryo didn't know much about this, and now was not looking like a good time for asking for clarification.
The translator would do its job in conveying his intention. But what would he say? Friends with benefits maybe? He gave up that one on the spot; he didn't consider their previous relationship a friendship, and somehow, he felt a dangerous desire to want more than that from her.
Under the pressure of his previous mistake, he told her the highest relationship he was willing to have without a care in the world for consulting his superiors. "Is girlfriend good for you?"
Elysira’s eyes widened as her skin maintained the same tones. But it lasted only a second before a golden hue took over, leaving little room for her black spots. "Wait, are you serious? I never thought you would consider anything more than being my exclusive pair."
"I am serious, but what's the difference?" Ryo instantly felt he could have gotten away with being just friends with benefits.
"Two differences." She took her clawed hands from the pockets of his jeans and pressed them against his neck in a fast but controlled movement. "One is implied trust." Her head approached him slower as if she would kiss him, but instead, her lips diverted toward his ears where she whispered, "And the other is a promise for the future."
"That seems alright."
As he said that, Elysira had already started taking little bites on his earlobe, her other hand joining around his neck while her tail was sneakily pushing the rest of her body on top of him.
"This will have to be quick, we-"
Ryo was about to give up the time they had for breakfast, when a powerful explosion shook the ground, causing the whole tent to vibrate.
Elysira’s pointy ears began to twitch and her body receded, trying to get of clue of what happened as she displayed purple. "I hear nothing."
"This was not far from here; I don't think it was a landslide." Ryo summoned a window with all the cameras outside and found nothing unusual, even with the infrared inspection.
Elysira could see what he was doing since they had never left the shared augmented space.
"Can we see what Amara is doing? She might know more than us."
He still was incapable of referring to her as his girlfriend even in his thoughts, but he still felt a hint of pride for her quick thinking. "Let's see."
He quickly summoned a live feed and promptly instructed the AI to go through the recordings of the whole night. "Nathan and that princess are still inside the tent. Time to go there."
Ryo wasted no time explaining, quickly standing up to begin the search for his underwear. The floor was still littered with paper sheets, and there were even some opened water bottles around, but he still found what he was looking for before pulling his jeans from under Elysira’s butt and getting dressed with haste.
He wore his shoes but didn't bother with his shirt and jacket, just taking his already loaded gun from the holster and getting some spare ammunition before heading outside cautiously.
"I'm going with you." She got out of the tent almost at the same time as him, proving that not needing clothes had its advantages.
"Stay close." He activated the infrared view mode and scanned the surroundings just to be sure, then hasted his steps towards Nathan's tent which was about forty meters ahead.
There was little he expected would go wrong on such a short journey, but Elysira’s ears began to twitch halfway through, prompting him to stop advancing. "Hear someone?"
"Something." She then used her tail to point uphill, in the direction where the rest of the group had set camp on the previous day. "I think it's a drone."
"Fuck, I hope you are wrong." He raised his 3D-printed revolver and felt like cursing more at the fact he didn't even have a proper pistol, pulling back the harmer and getting himself in front of Elysira.
Thanks to her acute hearing, when he heard the buzzing of the drone, his gun was already pointing in the right direction. Upon getting the first glimpse of the flying object and noticing how fast it was moving, he didn't hesitate to do a partial activation of combat mode.
The world slowed down for a moment, allowing him to see the device flying among the very few beams of blue light that made their way through the canopies. He didn't wait a single second and corrected his aim slightly to the left before pulling the trigger.
Bang!
The drone was torn to pieces and many parts fell about twenty-five meters away from them, at a distance that any explosives wouldn't hurt himself or Elysira.
When his eyes found her behind him, there was yellow and purple on her skin as she asked, "What if it was friendly?"
"The owner can send the bill up the chain for all I care." Ryo lowered the gun and did a full scan all around once more, only to find nothing again.
Her tail wrapped around his arm as all purple on her body disappeared, leaving only a hint of yellow. "Amara won't be happy if it was hers."
Just as Elysira spoke, a circular door opened on Nathan's tent, and Amara took a step outside with red filling her body.
Ryo pictured a scene of a princess complaining about her lost drone, but things only got more complicated instead.
Nathan emerged after her, and the pair began to argue loudly about what to do now that a war had broken out; Amara wanted to march uphill to join her guards, but Nathan held her by the tail when she was about to leave and prevented her for moving, saying it would be too dangerous.
Their argument turned into a messy mixture of the present situation with Amara sulking about a wasted night, which led Ryo to exchange a look of surprise with Elysira.
But their surprise only lasted a moment and Ryo decided he couldn't let those fools keep wasting valuable time.
Clap.
Clap.
Clap.
He had their attention now. "Please don't tell me you're mad because the plant lover couldn't get it up."
Under normal circumstances, Ryo had no doubt his assholish behavior would only instill shame and improve their cooperation.
However, he forgot to account that he was not wearing a shirt, leaving all his scratches exposed while Elysira was disheveled by his side, which caused Nathan's jaws to drop followed by Amara throwing an indignant gaze at Elysira and then at Nathan, who gave Ryo the feeling he might snap at any time.
"Why are you here?" Nathan's calm voice didn't match his clenched fist and rigid posture.
"Information. I want her to tell me what she knows about this war." Ryo had learned about the war by overhearing their previous argument.
Surprisingly, Amara was cooperative. "My brother's army found our position. They were not aware I was here with Nathan and ambushed the rest of my people and Zara; you destroyed their drone but if they saw us they might have a good reason to come here."
"Fuck!" He turned to Elysira and ordered. "Go back and gather my things. Take the essentials first, we are leaving."
Elysira used her tail to squeeze his arm in acknowledgment and rushed back. But when she had barely taken a few steps, she stopped as her ears moved. "More drones are coming!"
After alerting him, she ran to accomplish her task, leaving Ryo in the company of just Nathan and Amara.
"Isn't that great?" He grumbled to himself, but his voice carried loudly, obtaining the pair's attention as he raised his revolver again.
Knowing that the enemy was probably aware of their position, Ryo used infrared view mode to ensure they weren't using the drones as a distraction to pull off an ambush.
And that didn't seem to be the case when the first machine appeared, flying downwards in zigzag from the concentration of trees uphill.
Again Ryo used a partial activation of combat mode and aimed at the drone, yet this time more of them appeared, leaving the cover of the woods in groups of three until there were nine of them in total. But they didn't even try to get close this time, choosing to hover next to the canopies more than two hundred meters away from him, and assuming something akin to a structured formation.
This was extremely weird and enough of a reason for him to retreat a little, getting closer to his tent and taking cover behind a tree.
Nathan and Amara moved too, the botanist getting inside and returning with his gun while Amara's colors blended with his tent becoming hard to spot.
Assessing the new situation in an instant, Ryo concluded it would be better not to engage and retreat considering that those drones would be hard to take down at such distance. But things changed again quickly when the AI triggered a pop-up window, showing that several of the cameras he had set up in strategic places were capturing movement.
And what he was seeing now were several armed groups of Irisians heading towards their position, confirming Amara's supposition that the rebels were coming for them.
With the situation getting grimmer with every passing moment, Ryo thought of a possibility for what the drones might be doing, but his mind was still refusing to believe that the rebels could be as organized as his worst-case scenarios were giving them credit for.
To test this, he immediately tried to contact the space station through radio transmission, and since being found by the enemy was no longer an issue, he set the transmitter to maximum potency to validate his test.
Unable to establish a two-way connection.
He frowned even though that was not totally unexpected.
With only a few minutes at best before this place was filled with enemies, they would have to leave fast or they would be at the mercy of the enemy.
But first, there was something he wanted to say to Nathan, who now was using his tent for cover together with Amara. "Listen up, those fuckers are jamming our comms and they will be here at any time. Take the MLBCS and find a clearing to use it, I doubt they can interfere with the laser. Just don't forget that your immediate safety comes first or else you might not be among the living when the pod arrives."
Ryo and Nathan were technically enemies, but the last casualty in the war between Earth and Mars had happened several years in the past, ensuring that he had no reason to wish any harm for the botanist even though he didn't like him.
As for Amara, it was a little different. He hurried back to his tent without saying anything to her. And he did that not because he wished her harm, but simply because he didn't understand what she had at her disposal to offer any useful advice.
"Wait, what are you gonna do?" Nathan shouted from a distance.
With the adrenalin of seeing how many Irisians were coming helping his sincerity, he shouted back. "I'm not leaving the planet unless mission control finds a way to save Ely too."
After that, Nathan and Amara disappeared from his mind as he took cover behind his tent, slamming his hand against the foldable fabric many times to get Elysira's attention. "Hurry up, we can't stay here any longer."
She left immediately after, struggling to maintain balance as she used a hand plus her tail to carry his backpack, while her gun threatened to tumble from her gasp in her other hand.
And besides, one thing that Ryo’s eyes were immediately drawn towards was the clothes she was wearing—his clothes. While her legs were still exposed, his jacket still covered a bit more than her hips, loosely engulfing her slender frame like a billowing sail.
"I put the food and water in your backpack." She let go of the heavy item right over his feet as she put the gun on the ground and lifted her arms for him to recover his jacket and t-shirt. "You can get dressed while the tent folds."
He might have allowed her to keep the jacket if not for it being an inconvenience to her, so he just took it, making the first time he saw her wearing clothes a very short experience.
"No time for that, it won't fold with all the paper you left on the ground." He said as he swiftly slipped his arms into the sleeves of the jacket and zipped it up in one smooth movement.
Ryo was already considering which path they would take to flee when he noticed something terrible—Elysira’s skin had just been filled with gray as tiny black spots began to appear and disappear as if rain on the sand of a desert.
"What's it now?" He asked, trying to hide how unprepared he was to deal with this.
"Nothing has changed." Elysira averted her eyes. "I'm a burden to you just as I was to Amara. If I had-"
"Oh, shut up and quit the self-pity!" Ryo realized he was being too harsh, but still went on to finish it. "The paper is our mistake and I'm staying because I like you. This simple. Now get your gun and use your goddam camouflage, just like that princess is doing."
Ryo felt awful after saying this, and Elysira seemed quite taken about as she stared at him with wide eyes.
A moment later, however, she bent over and took the gun from the ground, her exterior blending quite well with the surroundings.
Ryo felt bad for her, but now there was no time to talk. "We run now, let's go."
The sound of his own steps was all he heard as they were putting some distance from the tent, making it so that he had to check on Elysira every couple of steps he took to ensure she was following him.
It was only when he heard some gunshots from far behind that he felt her claws tugging at his jacket from behind. "I hope Nathan is like you."

Today was supposed to be a day off for me, mandated by a medical recommendation due to an ongoing health issue. However, despite this, I was asked to make the journey of over an hour to report to work, only to be summarily terminated upon arrival. Adding insult to injury, I had a company vehicle, so I was then placed in an Uber and sent home in disbelief and heartbreak. Because I needed this job more than you guys can even imagine. My employer knows why that is.
The rationale behind my relief of duty, I was told, was my alleged failure to perform my duties adequately. Admittedly, personal challenges had hindered my performance, and i was the first to take accountability for that and make it known I was aware of my shortcomings. My personal shortcomings that is. Knowing I can do better. but I had diligently fulfilled my responsibilities to the best of my ability. The only place I lacked was filling out my audits on some tracker that i was never shown how to use. But yet he washed it a certain way that was never disclosed to me. For the physical, boots on the ground part of my job always got done. My tenure with the company spanned only about 10 months. My other employment’s before lasted 12 years and 7 years. When I came on board I was hired under the explicit directive of my boss: he confided in me that he sought someone who would challenge the status quo and question any discrepancies they observed.
Primarily tasked with overseeing health and safety protocols within the construction industry, I initially accepted the position with reservations about certain practices but opted to remain silent. However, as time progressed, I grew increasingly vocal about my reservations, particularly regarding safety measures that appeared more concerned with liability coverage than genuine worker protection.
Curiously, despite my concerns, and before my termination I never received any formal warnings or assistance to address these issues, or the issues I was having due to my lack of training. My induction into the role was characterized by a distinct lack of training—barely two days to acquaint myself with the intricacies of the company's procedures. Consequently, I often found myself navigating unfamiliar territory, with my remote boss micromanaging operations from a considerable distance, frequently leaving me in the dark about critical aspects of my responsibilities. My boss is well aware of these issues. Always stated about the lack of training and how he wished he could make it down more to help out.
In the end, my employment was terminated abruptly today, and I refused to sign any paperwork presented to me. While a severance package was proffered, I declined to sign it. As I awaited my Uber ride home, I watched my boss surreptitiously slip the termination documents into my bag.

My partner is a teacher.
Actually, she’s a damn good teacher, and every year on Teacher Appreciation Week we get loaded down with gifts. Which is great!! And first of all, I want to say that any gift — or even a sweet card or note if you can’t afford a gift, she would never in a million years judge someone or EVER want a parent to be stressed by how much money they spent (please, buy your kid food first) — is more than okay, and to be clear she would never ever come home and shit talk anyone who buys her a present lol.
But I know a lot of parents don’t know what to get their kid’s teacher, so:
The answer is cash.
I know what you’re thinking — that’s rude, right? It delegitimizes the profession and makes you look like you didn’t care enough to buy an actual present.
But nope! Cash is king. Cash is the best.
Every year, we have to choose which mugs to throw out, because we literally don’t have space for even one more mug. We also throw out about 15-20 pounds of chocolate and cookies every year because even if we were somehow able to eat all the sweets she takes home we’d each weigh 300 pounds.
One family once gave her a $200 gift certificate to a luxury resort chain, which was very sweet and expensive, but fundamentally misunderstands the financial limitations of teaching lol. It’s nice, and we’d never complain, but getting a gift certificate that covers 20% of a weekend at a resort is basically useless — no teacher is gonna go $800 out of pocket to spend $200 in gift certificate money.
Wine is nice, but if your teacher doesn’t like wine, then it’s like the chocolates — it’ll just sit there until it has to be thrown or given away to make space.
But cash? Oh, man, cash is amazing. With cash, she can choose to go to the salon, or order in some night we don’t feel like cooking, or even help pay off a bill if we need it.
Instead of going out of your way and stressing over a present if you want to get your teacher something, just give cash! Again, any amount (or just a card or note, even) is okay! But given what we all know about the profession of teaching, a cash gift says that you understand the job, and it also shows that you realize how $20 would be better than a $100 present because that’s $20 less in stress!

This is my first time posting on Reddit and I'm doing so now because I could really use support and perspective.
I've recently had a "falling out" with two of my closest friends who I've known separately for over a decade; I had also introduced them to each other and to many people in our pre-COVID community. Here are the facts of the recent events (everyone in this story is 30+ years old):

• I started seeing my partner (love of my life) 2.5 years ago. My partner is very friendly and kind and was excited to meet my friends. I noticed that my friend Claire was stand-offish about my relationship from the get-go, which I inquired about and she said it was because she was still recovering from her own breakup (from an emotionally abusive relationship).
• A couple of months after I met my now partner, I asked my roommate and good friend Gill to move out with 2 months notice. Context here: I invited her to move into my small 2-bedroom apartment about a year into COVID and she said she'd only stay a few months while she planned her move to another nearby city. She passively pushed the timeline back a few times (ie "as you can see, I haven't moved out yet, I think it'll be a few more months") which I was happy about at first because I enjoyed her company...until she started working from home full-time (which I already did) and also began struggling with mental health issues. So, I set the 2-month timeline. The rest of the story is that she flipped out after this conversation, left for a trip to visit family the next day, sent me a long angry email about how I've displaced her (a working professional and therapist) and that she found a place in the new city and would move out in 2 weeks. I kept my distance from her those two weeks and sent her an email saying that my intentions were not to hurt her, that I cared about her, and that I wanted to repair the relationship once she was ready; she sent a positive reply back. Then I never hear from her again and meanwhile heard from others that she was having a hard time "because of what I did to her".
• Fast forward a few months and I notice that Claire and my other close friend Jen - both of whom considered me a close/best friend and were not that close to my roommate - start actively avoiding me. They both stopped responding to my group messages and were "too busy" to hang out or jump on a call; but if I reached out to each of them directly, their respective texts are all friendly with lots of emojis. I even left a birthday present for Jen at her place (because she was too busy to see me) and she didn't acknowledge receiving it, just ignored my text message asking how she liked it.
• I definitely noticed this sudden change in behavior in both of them but I didn't know how to ask about it; their behavior felt punitive in some way and I felt scared to face it head on...for over a year. Until this week.
• Claire lives 2 blocks from me and I saw her heading my way the other evening - I was the only one outside - and she put her head down and "didn't see" me. I was floored. I got home and wrote her a text saying that it hurt to feel that she was actively avoiding me. She responded by saying that she "felt us growing apart", that she "didn't like how I treated close friends of ours", and that instead of having an "inflammatory conversation" she'd chosen to "love and support me from afar". Floored again. This one felt crushing. More context for you: I care deeply for people in my life and live my values of treating people kindly, empathetically, and with good communication. This text from my "close friend" absolutely shocked me. I responded with confusion and curiousity as to why she didn't talk to me about whatever it was she heard/witnessed, and also stated that suddenly disappearing form my life was niether loving nor supportive. My only assumption is that it has to do with Gill but I have no idea. All she said in response was in short "Thank you for speaking your truth <3 I wish you wonderful things." 💩
• Then I reached out to Jen. Jen has always seemed like a direct communicator, and she also is a high anxiety person. So this whole time, I assumed she might actually have been busy with work and life, and/or dealing with anxiety. I texted to say I was checking in because I hadn't heard from her in a long time and wasn't sure why - busy or did something happen?" She responded 24 hours later (last night) and gave me the same spiel as Claire "growing apart", "doesn't agree with my actions and treatment of friends". Floored AGAIN.
• I responded saying that I'm confused as to what she's referring to and I feel sad that she'd choose to distance herself instead of talk to me about whatever it is. Then I said "I value clarity and this sounds like a significant thing so can you please provide specifics around the actions and treatment you're referring to?"

I honestly have no idea what planet I'm on at the moment. I have what I thought were stable, mature adult relationships that would be with me for a lifetime. For two of my closest friends to form judgements about me (about something I have no idea about), not communicate with me about it, then actively ostracize me, is not only heartbreaking but makes me question my reality. Any advice on how to process this and let it go?

I’m not sure if this is allowed as I just found this sub.I really need advice or some form of support when it comes to my relationship. I’ve been with a girl with BPD for a little over a year now. It has been TUMULTUOUS to say the least. I love her more than anything and I don’t want to leave. I want to support her and love her correctly without enabling her or hurting her further. That being said, I also need support for myself as I’m sure everyone knows it isn’t easy being with someone struggling with this disorder. She can be so incredible, treat me so well and make me so happy, but at the drop of a hat she becomes so volatile and verbally abusive, super emotional in an uncontrollable way and victimizes herself to excuse her actions. Once she’s in a more stable place after her “episode” (I question if that is an offensive term. Please tell me if it is. I’ve never called it that to her face as I think it might make her feel bad), she feels very regretful and upset that she said the things she said and acted how she did. But no matter how much discussion there is about it and attempts to make the behavior stop, once she gets overwhelmed it happens again. It’s hard because she will say very conflicting things about how she views me, so I have trouble knowing what her true feelings are and which things are just a results of her being in such a heightened, negative place mentally that she is just spewing hurtful thoughts regardless of if she means it or not. I know wholeheartedly she is more than her disorder and hates what it does to her and what it does to me. She feels the instability on her own she attacks herself in the same way she does others. I need to know how to set boundaries / what boundaries to set and how to do this in a way that doesn’t make things worse. I know not every person with BPD needs the same things from the people they love so I’m just looking for some general tips. What do I do when I notice her start to shift into a place where I know she’s going to start attacking me verbally? How do I calm her down once I see the signs before it gets that far? What boundaries should I set and how do I execute them? I hate seeing her in those places and want to show compassion and support, but I can not allow myself to endure abuse and I can’t enable her anymore either. I do NOT want to abandon or give up on her. She is an amazing person. I see so much good in her, I love her more than anything and I just want the best for her. How do I approach the topic of treatment without making her defensive and reactive? Maybe these are things I need to accept happening due to her symptoms, maybe they can’t be stopped but I’m just really hoping there’s SOMETHING I can do better. I tend to get super hurt and take things very personally (but isn’t that natural?) and I want to hold her accountable but when I point out the things she does that hurt me she is so defensive and flips it around on me as if I’m the one causing everything to go wrong. Any advice on coping / improving the dynamic helps, but “break up with her” is not helpful. I need to know the best methods for helping her feel safe and secure so she calms down and I need to know how to set the boundaries to make it clear I am not tolerating abuse when it presents itself.

Before going into it, I want to mention how this post was inspired by three things. One was user u/HastyvonFuego2 and their post on going down the rabbit hole on the Kendrick sub last week. It was also inspired by Childish Gambino’s first album release in nearly 6 years where I have been sitting on this idea for a while but he inspired me to finally post this week like he did (never posted on Reddit at all before so be gentle if I am not doing it right)! I was also inspired by an interview Bino gave to GQ about breaking down his most iconic characters. In this interview he says how This is America started out as a Drake diss but then he realized the song was too hard for just Drake so he kept working on it. He also talks in this interview about how all culture is about compression. Which means that yes, This is America is about the gun violence and police issues in America, but compressed in this video is also more about where that culture comes from which he shows is from a small handful of rap moguls, namely Drake, Diddy and Jay-Z (bear with me on this long post, I think/hope it will be worth it). At the end I talk briefly about how Little Foot Big Foot might be in this same vein of cultural compression.

The beginning of this song has no background music yet, which really gives it an ‘in the beginning’ feel. Then Gambino starts doing his dances with weird facial expressions. I will explain as we go through his video how those expressions and dance moves represent different famous rap moguls. One easy look to pick out right away is Jay-Z’s famous lip curl/growl look that Gambino gives with a head nod repeatedly. The colonial pants have been a hot topic, but since it’s only the pants that are colonial, Gambino is saying the bottom or basis for this violent culture in America is ultimately colonialism. The lyrics ‘Go Away’, are likely foreshadowing the rap moguls wanting other popular rap rivals to ‘go away’ or they will make them (aka murder them) for profit.

Usually you want money for yourself and to party for yourself, so this is a bit odd. But what Gambino is referring to is similar to these Diddy ‘freakoff parties’ we are hearing about where people who want to be famous are really partying for these rap moguls so they can get close to them. Where they suck up to them saying that they want to earn the mogul money from their songs.

Then this almost feels like the Diddy rebuttal where he’s like ya I know you want to party and you want to do it for free. Like Katt Williams says, “you gotta tell Diddy no”, it is never free to go to those parties. There are always consequences. When you are partying you are dancing, but shaking the frame could refer to how those boundaries/edges are being crossed, lines are blurred, etc.
Then in the video, the fellow who was playing the guitar gets shot and things turn dark from happy music. I believe that this guitar tune is meant to represent 2Pac and Nas’s song Thugz Mansion. It’s one of the original greats from ‘in the beginning’. Nas famously has always had major issues with Jay-Z too (More on why 2Pac and Nas later). It also represents how it was these moguls who murdered 2Pac like Jaguar Wright and Katt Williams keep saying. Where these murders only lead to more money and fame for the killers when the dead artists’ and their music are exploited more easily.
Also note that the gun gets taken away by a school kid after the shooting, more on this later as well.

Throughout This is America, Gambino takes lines from Pac’s song: “They get jealous when they see you with your mobile phone” (referred to later in this a Celly, that’s tool) “That's the sound of my tool, you say it ain't cool, My mama didn't raise no fool”
“And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped, And I never get to lay back” It seems like Gambino broke up these lyrics and scattered them throughout his song. This plays into the theme that everyone is using 2Pac and enriching themselves off of his image and music. I show below how this particular section of the video represents Diddy meaning that Diddy himself is exploiting his music (and alleging that Diddy killed Pac?). We could see this exploitation play out at length with how much Diddy milked the death of Biggie like in Every Breath You Take.

The song Gorilla War by $uicideboy$ and Ramirez talks about getting a bag repeatedly in the course. Also in Otis with Kanye and Jay-Z their lyrics talk about going gorilla (I talk about this song more further down), so it could be referring to this as well. It seems like Gambino is trying to pull out lyrics from all across the rap culture and embed them in his song to highlight the ‘cultural compression’.

I think that all of the school kids in the video represent all of the rappers that are signed with these big labels. Which is interesting because they are the ones facilitating the guns for the moguls in the video. You can see that the mogul is really focused on the kids and gets agitated and directs them to follow him whenever they stray off a bit like they are his pupils, or like he owns them. Then all of a sudden the camera comes into a scene where you can see more kids shooting a rap video and all shooting money from a Supreme gun. The camera zooms out almost to show you that this is the mogul’s whole rap empire they are looking over, all of their kids in one place (this empire already includes some chaos in the background). It’s subtle but hilarious, Gambino puts fricken chickens on the ground where the kids are filming the rap video. He is directly calling all of these rappers complete chickens for playing up this lifestyle and being the cause of so much chaos rather than coming out and telling somebody what’s really going on. Trying to get their money over everything else.

This is where things start to get interesting. Gambino is literally saying, go tell somebody about this! We all know what’s happening, why don’t you go let people know how bad it is? But like Jaguar Wright said, who do you tell when these moguls have the cops and feds paid off? This video is literally Gambino putting it all out there in this extremely popular song for everyone to see but yet we still just see the dancing and the violent chaos of people and police in the streets and not the root cause that is hidden in plain sight.
The vast majority of those who reviewed this video until now think this scene represents the tragic church shooting in Charleston in 2015. I think it does, but we also have to look at this from an angle of compression.
The people in the choir are all of the people who are currently singing the rap mogul’s praises and who are focused on going and getting what’s owed to them, get their money (who are also profiting off of the dead fellows music since it goes back to the original tune). You can see that each choir member has a distinct look to them. Think about who you are hearing about now who is about to be implicated in these freak offs and evil deeds. Is that Will Smith in the back left corner!? The short bald fellow in the front left maybe Kevin Hart? Rick Ross or TD Jakes maybe the bigger guy towards the back right? When the camera zooms in on the choir right at first to show their faces, doesn’t the guy in the bottom middle look like an uncanny version of Jordan Peele? Or is that meant to be Cuba Gooding Jr? Then just like the guitar fellow at the beginning, bang. You may be singing Diddy’s praises now, but he will cut you down whenever he suddenly feels like it.
I think almost for sure this initial section of the music video is Gambino acting as Diddy, because right after he shoots the choir, he does the elbow pump/chicken dance. At 3:14 in Diddy’s video for P.E. 2000 he does the chicken dance (he is up first in the video and I think Gambino is trying to say here I first present to you the first public enemy of 3 in this song). That elbow dance signals that it was Diddy and this is the end of his section.

There have been many accounts of celebrities being given fancy cars after suffering abuse at the hands of these moguls. So these lyrics are saying that you better not slip up and tell people what’s really going on. And if you don’t look at this sweet carecord deal/movie contract I am going to give you. Beiber told this story about Diddy wanting to give him a luxury car.
Now suddenly, the dance switches from the chicken dance to a sudden bicep flex to signal us that we have now moved on from Gambino representing Diddy to our next mogul.

This next chunk of the video is all about Jay-Z. I think this is the case because he throws his arms up in a bicep flex just like Jay does in the Otis music video at 2:38. And it makes sense Gambino would pick a dance move from a video with a huge American flag in the background to fit the ‘This is America’ theme. Gambino is mocking him saying, who are you really, the pretty guy or this hard gangster like Gambino shows in his dancing. Also right before they pan to the kids on the balcony, Bino also does Jay-Z’s signature lip curl look a couple times so we know it’s him and to signal the end of his section.

Jay-Z is famous for making the fitted Yankees cap famous, it’s his signature look. More signs this verse is about Jay.

Jay-Z has been seen in full wallpaper Gucci sweat suits but could also be referring to Gucci Mane who he hung out with at Beyonce’s tour around the time this song was released.

These lines are probably referring to Jay-Z having a hidden preference for men, especially with the way Gambino flicks his wrist in the video when he says I’m so pretty.

I think that “this a celly, that’s a tool” harkens back to 2Pac’s lyrics in Changes where he sings, “They get jealous when they see ya with your mobile phone” then shortly after that he sings about the sound of his tool, referring to shooting a gun. But Childish flips these lyrics on their head. He is saying that it’s really the phone that’s a tool to be using, not a gun. And pans up and shows (the school kids specifically) on the balcony filming everything going on below. He’s telling the kids/other rappers, use your phone as a tool, you can record these bad deeds when you get blackmailed into being at the freak off. That’s how you can kill them and their career, not with a gun. Go tell somebody! There is also the reference to Kodak which plays into the picture taking theme, but also because Kodak Black has been accused of assaulting a teenage girl in a hotel room. So we have a good idea of what Gambino suggests all the kids start filming and collecting evidence of.

Now we are onto Drake’s part. In the video Gambino starts doing the BlocBoy JB dance called Shoot. Drake is known for doing these little viral dance moves like in Hotline Bling. But not only that, this dance is also used in the song that both BlocBoy JB and Drake collaborate on for their video Look Alive. It starts at 2:07 in the Look Alive video. So this is Drake’s dance to signal his part is now starting.
Note this is where the pale horse rides by also potentially saying that Drake is one of the horsemen of the apocalypse. Interestingly, Drake’s collab with BlocBoy JB was pretty much the apocalypse for BlocBoy’s career, who hasn’t had a hit since.

Again, we know this is Drake’s section because his song 10 bands starts out by saying “10 bands, 50 bands, 100 bands” almost identical to Bino’s lyrics here. Also Blocka was famously used by Biggie in his song Gimme the Loot which could be referring to Biggie's demise like Pac’s and making money from his death. Everything in this industry originates from pushing drugs, which has been alleged through the trafficking that Diddy, Jay-Z and Drake do through their private jets likely connected to their bosses, the Clive Davises and Lucian Grainges of the world. This escalates rap beefs and the whole culture to the next level where murder is often a consequence for young rappers in their prime when international drug lord money is involved.
An interesting point is this is the only time where Childish was about to shoot someone in the video, but where he didn’t have a school kid either handing him the gun or taking it away carefully from him. (Maybe also a diss at Drake that even though he acts hard he doesn’t shoot, he gets his horseman of the apocalypse to do his dirty deeds for him instead perhaps?). This is the beginning of the end for the rap mogul as he no longer has his kids doing his bidding for him. A simple message to show how the violence can be stopped, that these shootings can end when the kids stop enabling them. So then as soon as he can’t react in that moment and shoot someone his anger is forced to chill out, as shown by smoking a J, and to go back to exploiting the dead man’s music instead. If you don’t put a gun in someone’s hand when they are heated, those feelings too shall pass - kinda feel.

Whose voice does that sound like!? It sounds a lot like Diddy to me, public enemy #1. This is basically saying that the moguls are the ones who we all owe it to for all of this glorified gun violence in America. That we owe them way more follows and likes for what a massive influence they have had on the violence and chaos we see in America today.

In Moneybagg Yo’s song 1, 2, 3, he also has a line that says “1, 2, 3, let’s go!” in a similar vein.
But something interesting I came across was Nas’s song Get Down where they use a sample from James Brown's “The Boss” that sounds extremely similar to the way Gambino screams “Get Down!” Which would fit well if the guitar singer from the beginning is meant to be Nas and Pac doing Thugz Mansion.
Also make sure you check out Nas’s song Get Down so that you can hear how much Jay-Z outright copied this song for The Story of OJ. From the musical structure with the piano and interwoven samples right down to the theme reiterated by the sample at the end of Nas’s song: “If that’s how our people are gonna get down, how are we ever gonna get up?”
SZA
Finally to wrap up the video, I have been stumped for a long time as to why SZA is randomly at the end of this video sitting on one of the cars. But I think I finally know why and it reconfirms that this last scene is all about Drake. If you watch Drake’s music video for Worst Behavior (not very Canadian of him to spell behaviour that way I might add) you will see Drake rapping and dancing with a few cars surrounding him and one of those cars has other rappers making cameos in it. In Gambino’s video SZA represents that car with a famous cameo. I think this is further confirmed when the black edges of the video start closing inwards at the end of This is America, the exact same way that Worst Behavior ends. So why SZA as the cameo then? Cause it reminds people that Drake is a p*do.
This is from an article in the Rolling Stone: In 2020, Drake revealed publicly that he and SZA had dated over a decade ago, well before she was an established artist (her earliest music goes back to around 2012; her critical breakthrough, Ctrl, came in 2017). On 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now,” Drake rapped about a newer fling who was a fan of SZA’s: “Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08 / If you cool with it, baby, she can still play.” A few days later, SZA responded, corroborating Drake’s claim with a slight correction: they dated in 2009, when both would have been over 18. Since SZA would not have turned 18 until late 2008, she wanted to set the record straight. “in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered 🥴lol I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait [sic],” she tweeted. “I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening . Completely innocent . Lifetimes ago . [sic]”
If you have to specifically say something isn’t creepy and distance yourself from it being lifetimes ago, it usually is creepy. Drake would’ve been 22 when she was 17. Metro Boomin also happens to be on the Mr. Right Now track. He is currently in trouble for resurfaced old tweets showing how Metro used to tweet disgusting things about what he wanted to do to underage girls. Interestingly, Metro Boomin is also now beefing with Drake.
Drake doing his dance on the car of the original musician’s music seems to be accusing Drake directly of stealing 2Pac’s music. Orlando Brown recently said the cryptic statement that “Drake is Pac” which likely means he stole 2Pac’s approach/style/audience after his death. Gambino did some good foreshadowing here too with the recent AI release Drake put out of 2Pac.
This dance scene also signals that the Drake section is now over.

The outro lyrics speak to how these gatekeepers keep black men down and control them with things like being forced to wear a dress to become famous or to submit to homosexual/p*do acts.. In the video, as I mentioned above, the black edges close in on Drake’s dancing scene in This is America. But they don’t completely close and end things like they do in the Worst Behavior video. Instead, in Gambino’s video, the camera pans to show the mogul running for his life with Young Thug’s lyrics almost like a quiet echo in the background. He isn’t running from the cops though, he’s running from the kids and from the public. When I mentioned earlier that the kids not handing over the last gun before Drake’s scene signalled the beginning of the end for the moguls, this is that conclusion. Where it is showing that if all the kids come together to stop enabling and rather expose the moguls, people will be chasing these bastards down once we realize what has been going on behind the curtain. Then the song that Young Thug is singing can just be a quiet echo of the way things were in the past.
If you don’t think Gambino would be this deep and that I went too far down the rabbit hole, do a Google search on the calculations that he came up with for why he sings about loving until 3005 in his song. He seems to go real deep with his lyrics. So a big question this leaves us with is, what did Childish Gambino witness in the rap industry? His whole rap career plays out like he is trying to avoid industry norms.
Even in Sweatpants, he has lyrics like:

Seems like he is trying to make it really clear across his catalogue of music that he isn’t a p*do but that other rappers are. Where he is saying that he doesn’t need to ID his potential partners because he can tell they are obviously too young and that’s not hard to do.

Childish Gambino has always refrained from talking about the meaning of This is America whenever he is asked, and I can only assume that all of this is why.
Little Foot Big Foot
Now with his new release, Little Foot Big Foot and applying cultural compression to it, it has me wondering if he is referring to Megan Thee Stallion and the Nicki beef? People like Nicki (calling Megan Big Foot) have been claiming for some time she wasn’t even shot in the foot by Tory Lanez. There were many people laughing and making fun of Megan over getting shot. Which could be an interesting story for Childish to tell to represent how crazy this violent culture has gotten that people just laugh and blame the victim now when you get shot. Also a good metaphor for things like ‘shooting yourself in the foot’ for not having a lawyer look over potentially predatory industry contracts like in the beginning of his video. That you want to get in the cool kids club so bad you overlook it. Not as sure on this one though since the song just came out and I have only heard it a few times.
One last thing that is really interesting, there have been tons of artists on podcasts like Shay Shay talking about the strings these ultra rich moguls can pull. Like buying awards or gatekeeping people from being in the industry at all. There was even a story, I think maybe it was Gene Deal who told it, that when Killer Mike won at the grammys that Jay-Z was so angry he made sure to mess up his night by getting him locked up as soon as he left the awards stage. These moguls are extremely powerful and have an incredible amount of sway in the world/industry. If you check out Gambino’s profile on Youtube, his old music videos keep getting taken down, like Bonfire for example is just gone. Fans have been having to upload the videos themselves. There is a reply to a comment, on one of the fan uploaded vids, from Gambino’s account himself when someone asks why the videos are being taken down. His account just replies “Noone knows why :(“ Seems a bit odd all things considered and like maybe he has been at the mercy of these gatekeepers for going against the system.

Today was supposed to be a day off for me, mandated by a medical recommendation due to an ongoing health issue. However, despite this, I was asked to make the journey of over an hour to report to work, only to be summarily terminated upon arrival. Adding insult to injury, I had a company vehicle I was then placed in an Uber and sent home in disbelief and heartbreak. Because I needed this job more than you guys can even imagine. My employer knows why that is.
The rationale behind my relief of duty, I was told, was my alleged failure to perform my duties adequately. Admittedly, personal challenges had hindered my performance, and i was the first to take accountability for that and make it known I was aware of my shortcomings. My personal shortcomings that is. Knowing I can do better. but I had diligently fulfilled my responsibilities to the best of my ability. The only place I lacked was filling out my audits on some tracker that i was never shown how to use. But yet he washed it a certain way that was never disclosed to me. For the physical, boots on the ground part of my job always got done. My tenure with the company spanned only about 10 months. My other employment’s before lasted 12 years and 7 years. When I came on board I was hired under the explicit directive of my boss: he confided in me that he sought someone who would challenge the status quo and question any discrepancies they observed.
Primarily tasked with overseeing health and safety protocols within the construction industry, I initially accepted the position with reservations about certain practices but opted to remain silent. However, as time progressed, I grew increasingly vocal about my reservations, particularly regarding safety measures that appeared more concerned with liability coverage than genuine worker protection.
Curiously, despite my concerns, and before my termination I never received any formal warnings or assistance to address these issues, or the issues I was having due to my lack of training. My induction into the role was characterized by a distinct lack of training—barely two days to acquaint myself with the intricacies of the company's procedures. Consequently, I often found myself navigating unfamiliar territory, with my remote boss micromanaging operations from a considerable distance, frequently leaving me in the dark about critical aspects of my responsibilities. My boss is well aware of these issues. Always stated about the lack of training and how he wished he could make it down more to help out.
In the end, my employment was terminated abruptly today, and I refused to sign any paperwork presented to me. While a severance package was proffered, I declined to sign it. As I awaited my Uber ride home, I watched my boss surreptitiously slip the termination documents into my bag.
Now, I find myself contemplating my next steps. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this challenging situation. Thank you.
