Hello all,
This is something I literally cannot stop thinking about and I feel like a horrible person right now so any advice is helpful.
I got accepted into a PhD program in a STEM field and after a lot of contemplation, I accepted it a month ago. I have still been majorly struggling with the life changes and if I am up to it (pretty much imposter syndrome). But I sent in all my material at the end of last year.
However, I recently needed to send an updated resume/CV for my job due to a QA walkthrough (I work at a diagnostics lab currently) and I noticed under my description of this job, I described my work as “analytical testing of specimens”.
I do work with patient samples but it is just a diagnostic process. I’m not running specific tests on specific samples, in reality I’m pushing them through the lab using liquid handlers. So I feel that saying I am doing any sort of “analytical testing” is a gross lie. I really don’t know what I was thinking when writing that. If anything, it should be “diagnostic processing” and then I could really explain what I do. I have other bullets under this section to back up other things I do (reagent handling, instrument troubleshooting, training, etc.)
I feel so incredibly guilty because of this and what’s worse is that I did not even get a formal interview by the school or my PI. Like I wish I did so then this could have been found out and then I could explain the mistake but now it’s obviously too late. It makes my work experience sound so much more grandiose but in reality it’s very simple.
I mean I do have the other qualifications (bachelors, some research experience, letters of recommendation) but I feel that this job also means a lot in the decision and I feel incredibly sick to my stomach thinking that I have experience in any sort of analytical testing when I don’t. I have a theoretical grasp of some of the methods but no actual work experience (maybe some undergrad lab experience).
Should I email my PI and ask him about this? Or send in an updated CV? I know the running joke is “fake it till you make it” but I genuinely feel that I am a fake now and don’t want to live like that.
TLDR: Got into grad school but realized a pretty massive error on my CV regarding my job description and I am freaking out about it.

I have a degree in environmental studies but haven’t worked in the environmental field for a couple years. I used to do habitat restoration as a job and then moved into education. I am interested in working in the environmental field but there are just too few jobs that pay decently. I’ve decided that I would probably be more happy and effective working as a volunteer. Since then I’ve been working in educational therapy. Basically I teach cognitive skills and regulation strategies to kids who have disabilities. I love this job and want to continue doing it at a higher level I think. Right now I feel like a glorified tutor. I applied to get a masters degree in mental health counseling but didn’t get accepted to the school. I was unsure if a masters program was right for me, anyway, so maybe that was a good thing that I didn’t get accepted. Naturally, I came to know Orwell with 1984, which I read roughly three years ago in a Russian translation. I was at my humble beggining in discovering literature, and the book impressed my chiefly trough its deep theoretical base, the atmosphere of utter lack of hope and ingenious terms such as 'doublethink' - anyway, you probably know what I am talking about
Yet it was only much later that I have read his other literary works - namely, those indicated in the title. There I discovered Orwell as a great analytic of human psychology, an inventive storyteller. Both novel have a bleak atmosphere with a bit of dark humor, and somewhat foreshadow themes that would appear in 1984.
In *Keep the Aspidistra Flying', Orwell depicts a peculiar intellectual named Gordon Constock, almost thirty and "already moth-eaten". The gist is that he refused his status and prospects of a "good job" in order to avoid being subservient to "the Money God" - that is, he lowers himself on the social scale, living in self-imposed penury, working in a bookshop. Generally, this Gordon would seen like an off-putting person, constantly frustrated, whining and complaining, raving about the 'end of civilization', a little bit sexist and a great deal pessimist. The reader is plunged into his interior monologue and obsessive thoughts, which are captivating to follow. The plot revolves around his fight with the Consumerist system - however, as you might have guessed, he is not a valliant knight in shining armor, but rather a vain nihilist with questionable worldview. This affects the relationship with other characters - his friend Ravelstorm (a self-proclaimed Marxist, who is distracted from thougths about the rough conditiond of the Proletariat by the soft appearance of his mistress), his self-abnegating sister Julia, etc. Also, Gordon tries to write poetry - and one of the poems is gradually 'conceived' throughout the novel, containing his impressions and emotions in a self-piteous, frustrated style - with quite a decent result I'd say. Besides, Orwell realistically describes some unpleasant aspects of London's life through the protagonist's actions: slums, squalor, drunkenness and prostitution. Per general, a great read!
On the other hand, 'Coming up for air' describes a character who is an organic part of the system - a middle-aged clerk from a London's suburb, on the surface - a typical lower-middle-class and a family man, called George Bowling. The novel is written entirely through his perspective and keeps a rather melancholic tone. The narrator, with a rueful humor, talks a bit about himself, expressing a dissatisfaction with his menial life, yet remaining fatalistic about it. Then he starts a 80-or-so pages description of his pre-WW1 life and memories from a small town - and, frankly, it stirred my interest, being related in a vivid language. His rustic life is placed in contrast with the modern, after-war existence. This leads to nostalgia, and basically the plot of the novel is consisted of an attempt to chase this feeling, to make it come true, to revive what has been long forgotten. The novel (published sone month before the WW2) contains a distinct feeling of uncertainty, fear, anguish about the future, expressed in various instances. The narrator ask himself what would become if the war starts - if the bombers arrive - which, as he thinks, will happen in 1941. But he fears not the destruction itself, but what would come after the pains of war - a new world of rubber truncheons, slogans, suppression, hate. Something that Orwell will describe 11 years later in '1984'.
Overall, I think both books are worth reading. However, you have to expect that the protagonists - Gordon Comstock and George Bowling - might not be quite prepossesing.

Lumberjacks Show Satisfying Method Of Felling Tree When Met With Limited Space
Colin Bergeron was called to remove a tree from a client’s property but when he assessed the space available to land the lumber, he used an ingenious method to safely cut it down which was captured in a video gathering over 60 million views. At the side of the property in Waterville, Maine, Colin had to cut the tree down and ensure it landed in the space that was available, as a mistake to allow it to fall left or right would result in a flattened home. Therefore, Colin implemented a cutting process that would guide the stump into a cut that was carved out. Instead of traditionally cutting the log at the very bottom with one horizontal cut, a square hole was made and removed, then by using a chainsaw, Colin made two vertical cuts approximately a third toward the centre of the tree from the left and from the right. To complete the falling, two horizontal cuts were made to meet the vertical cuts to allow the tree to fall but not before catching the pre-made incision which satisfyingly dropped the log safely and without issue.

Good day, brothers and sisters!
I turned 26 years old on April 4th, I live independently and have a stable job I love very much, so I figured it would be a good time to look for something serious. Disclaimer: I'm Byzantine Catholic and I want to join the clergy (just saying because it might turn Latin rite ladies off).

-I study history at university and should be done next year; -After this, I want to enroll into seminary to join the clergy (Byzantine Catholics don't practice priestly celibacy though and can get married, just in case you didn't know); -I've been a choir member for years and singing is one of my passions. I go to the local chapel every day to practice. Perhaps I'll send you some recordings; - I serve at the altar in both the Byzantine and Latin rites as an altar servant. Maybe I'll show you my beautiful vestments; -I'm an adventurer. I've traveled to Athens by myself when I was 17, and the furthest away was California, among many other places; -I'm an avid nature enjoyer and animal lover. I can state at a bumblebee doing their job without getting bored; -I love reading and writing. It would be a plus if you'd be open to send and receive snail mail in order to build a special bond; -I work as an editor at a publishing and printing firm, and I love it very much; -I'm pretty extroverted. I love spending time with my many friends, and making new ones is usually no issue for me; -I'm loyal, serious and committed when it comes to relationships; -I love doing hands and crafts (a friend of mine and I are thinking of opening our own Etsy shop) I make prayer ropes and rosaries!

Yesterday's message from Nora and Natalie to under-the-radar Scientologists reminded me of a series of videos I saw a few months ago on Mark Bunker's YouTube channel. They are long form interviews with members of the Woodcraft family, who moved from England to the USA for Scientology. Sadly the family was splintered by Scientology's practice of disconnection. I found all the interviews interesting, and highly recommend Lawrence Woodcraft's story for insight into why someone might choose to stay in Scientology under-the-radar. I'll give you a clue: the mother of his children was a true believer.
In another video Lawrence Woodcraft, an architect, talks about discovering blue asbestos on the Freewinds. I was horrified when I first watched this, but not by the asbestos. Let's face it, anyone refitting an older ship (at least anyone unencumbered by specialist knowledge about refitting older ships) could stumble across layers of dangerous cancer-causing insulation in its walls. It's a major problem, but not horrific as such. The horror began to roll over me as Lawrence related his attempts to get people to listen to him, and the refusal of senior officials including Bitty Miscavige to believe that cancer was caused by anything other than sexual misconduct. L Ron Hubbard said so, and apparently he knew better than the entirety of modern medicine. There's more to the story of course, including the unanswered questions about the long term effects on the ship's occupants and visitors. I still feel sick when I remember the description of the squad* of Sea Org members whose job it was to run up to freshly exposed asbestos and seal it under a fresh coat of paint to limit contamination. But hey, I'm sure they did a great job because they weren't hindered by appropriate personal protective equipment.
