Ok, Arakawa said Grumman is Hawkeye's maternal grandfather in the FMA Perfect Guidebook 2. And yes, there is that airplane. Nowhere in the anime and manga there are any clues that this is the case; please correct me if I am wrong.
Can we assume that someone among the anime/manga characters knew about Grumman and Riza's connection? Did Riza know? She was estranged from all her relatives, so perhaps she didn't.
Did Roy know? When Grumman suggests Roy marries his granddaughter, does Roy dismiss this supposition because a) he things it is an old man's perk and a way to keep close to him, an ambitions upstart, or b) he understands full well that the subject is Riza and is too embarrassed to admit he is not impartial to her?
Did anyone among the HQ know? Bradley? If they knew, Riza would be a perfect method to keep Grumman in check. Given Grumman is demoted after he rejects the prospects of immortality, an out-of-favour - but strong and scheming - general could likely be kept under control if his enemies knew he wants to keep his granddaughter safe. On the other hand, such relationship couldn't stay secret for long. Did Grumman manage to keep it hush? Hence the question.

2024.05.14 07:49 AnEroticTale Wow is Main Quest Progress shared between characters?
I am playing a main character, and planning on finishing all of the "campaign" quests in Dragonflight. I stopped playing in Season 1 of DF, so I have tones of catching up to do.
It seems like each campaign is split in its own "Chapter" (probably a content patch?), and individual story-lines.
As an example "Emerald Dream" has 6 Story lines: Enter the Dream, Ice and Fire, Druids of The Flame, Eye of Ysera, A Dream of Fields and Fire, New Beginnings.
Assuming I complete them all, I won't have to do it on an alt, right?
Now, what if I complete a few story lines only, will these carry over to the alt too, or only if I clear the entire "Chapter" (Emeral Dream quests) ?
I don't want to main this character anymore (its been a while, a few years and I'm getting bored), so I'm trying to figure out when to switch to an alt.

Hello,
So I really enjoy making alts and leveling them...but am a dirty casual so they normally never make it to end game. Made a new alt tonight (finally unlocked Void Elf...boy do I still not like Suramar), and noticed I'm down to a handful of the loremaster achievements.
One of them is MoP. So if I were to make a character for this remix:
- Is that character going to be accessible moving forward, so if I do run this, I could have a level 70 alt moving forward?
- If I were to go through all the quests, would the loremaster achievement carry through?

I could see myself having a lot of fun leveling a new toon through the remix content, but... I already have an army of alts, the vast majority of which are mostly neglected. It just feels like kind of a bummer knowing I'll just abandon this one once the event is over.
Will you be able to dip into any of the content, even just some of the raids on a currently leveled character or is it just for these "Timerunner" alts?

The novel begins September 3, 2006, a Sunday. In "physical time," our reality, Andre Agassi played and lost his final match of his career. Steve Irwin, the croc hunter, would die the following day from a stingray's three barbed venomous spinal blades puncturing his heart. Senator Barak Obama was still denying he was intending to run for President (he would announce in February 2007.) The number 1 song in America and the UK is Sexyback by Justin Timberlake. Egypt warned of Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis vacationing in Sinai. Charlie Sheen turned 41. 200 Taliban are killed in a major battle in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Iraqi leaders announce the capture of the #2 leader of Al Qaeda. Europe's space agency purposely crash-lands a lunar probe into the moon.
In short, nothing, on balance seems to have happened in the world that has any particular world-historical or even US-historical import. Just a day. Even searching back 4 extra days from September 3 - since we are told that the man viewing the art installation is now on his fifth straight day in the museum - nothing all that *important* seems to have happened on any of those dates, the way saying a novel is starting on June 6, 1944, or (obviously) September 10, 2001, or July 16, 1945 or November 22, 1962 would be of course trying to tell us
something.
Q: why is Delillo's purpose (is there one?) for telling us this specific date? Why is it important that the man is there on September 3, 2006 watching this:

Q: who is the man? Delillo himself? Just a random unnamed character? Is it definitely Finley and Elster who are the two men who come into the room? The description of the older man "long white hair braided at the nape" [p.7, Scribner] certainly seems to suggest it is Elster, described in Ch. 1 as a man "with silvery hair, as always, was braided down into a short ponytail." If it is definitely them, what does it mean they attended a museum show together? Anything?
This is not the first Delillo novel to open with a scene where a movie, and anonymous characters' responses to watching it, is central to the narrative - Players opens with a movie being shown on a plane that is basically a silent movie of a terrorist machine-gun attack on waspy golfers, only accompanied by a pianist (yes a pianist) in the airplane bar filling in the suspense with improvised show tunes - and it is not the first to open with an examination of an art installation - Underworld, after the fantastic baseball game section - opens at Klara Sax's airplane bomber art installation commune. But this opening seems to introduce two characters obliquely, and of course only if you've paid close attention to the description of Elster's hair could you think back to it being him, perhaps.
"The nature of the film permitted total concentration and also depended on it." "The less there was to see, the harder he looked, the more he saw." [p.5, Scribner]
Q:Who is this person watching and why should we care?
Q: Did the opening sequence provide you any insight other than , perhaps, confusion? Something other than "what the hell did I just read?" What? Does your reaction to the opening sequence change when you know (if you did before this post) that the Psycho installation was and is real?
Moving on to Chapter 1 [p. 17, Scribner], we learn that we are on Day 10 of a 12-day period of time that relates the initial relationship between Elster and Finley. Finley, who is probably in his early to mid-30s and 73-year-old Elster are spending time at Elster's house in the desert to record a one-take movie of Elster's testimony of what it was like to serve in an administration that went to war under less than honest circumstances.
Our narrator is Jim Finley, a documentary filmmaker who has made exactly one film about Jerry Lewis's telethon appearances - Lewis, a "rampaging comic" to whom Elster would merely be a "straight man." [p.27] Elster, who Finley also describes as "not a man who might make space for even the gentlest correction," [p.22] is a non-political theorist being brought in to an administration to provide narrative to their war. I've seen references to him being based on Paul Wolfowitz, the political scientists who became Deputy SecDef in the Bush II Administration who famously nearly swallowed his comb to wet it to comb his hair in an image that likely sealed his fate in D.C. as unserious and ridiculous who was then shuffled off to the World Bank, but would Delillo ape the man AND mention him in the narrative? If so, that seems clumsy.
Q: Do you even take Elster serious as a character or believable as a "brain" behind the narrative of an administration going to war? A man who speaks in bad koans and aphorisms like "Time becomes blind." [p.23] and who reads Louis Zukovsky into the night? (Zukovsky famously worked on an epic poem called "A" for over almost 50 years, finally finishing it a few years before his death in 1978.)
Finley tells us: "To Elster, sunset was human invention, our perceptual arrangement of light and space into elements of wonder." [p.18, Scribner]. Elster has come to the desert to seek - something - we know not what and are not told definitively - but his narrative of what his role was in Washington was to create a interpretation of the "closed world" for the "plotters, the strategists" [p. 28] and ends up delivering to Finley what I think Finley was after - the cynical idea that Elster was giving form and shape to the government's bullshit narrative - "The state has to lie. There is no lie in war or in preparation for war that can't be defended. We went beyond this. We tried to create new realities overnight, careful sets of words that resemble advertising slogans in memorability and repeatability."
Q: Is Elster ultimately right? Did the country have a "shadowy need" [p.34] for such a narrative? See, for instance: "Let's roll." [probably in reality, "Let's roll it" referring to a beverage cart to break into the cockpit.]
"Shock and awe." "Global War on Terror" "Slam dunk" "WMDs" "The Surge" And perhaps most infamously "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques"
At the ends of the chapter, we get what counts as a cliffhanger in this slim novel: Elster's adult daughter would be coming for a visit, Jessie who was "otherworldly" [p. 36].

I noticed there's a theme centered around this month where a recurring character gets their secondary alts that looks military. Coincidentally, both events featured both characters drawn from the same artist(Yoshiori and Okitaka by 英) which got me speculating if there's a new character drawn by them for this year that will receive a secondary event variant next May. I'm backing this up because of Obsidius, who somehow got a second alt just months after his debut last summer.

I am a fangirl of a fictional character, and most of the other fangirls are insanely obsessed and sorta cringe. Sure, there are chill ones too, but I'm still embarrassed. Liking that character was my biggest insecurity.
I once had a Roblox friend who unfriended me because I was selfish. After making an alt account, I felt so free... playing everything I want without anyone watching. I never returned to my main one.
I wanted to make my decision worth it, so I decided the best way to get over it is to gain my confidence for my hobbies, interests, and that character.
For a while, I had a less embarrassing, "fake" replacement. I pretended to like another character instead.
When I confessed my REAL fictional crush, my friend was surprised but supported it.
Now, I recently started playing a new game... I fell for another character. Sometimes I fall for others for a short period, then "turn back" to my main fictional crush.
After the new one getting hurt by the protagonist's brother (don't yell it in the comments), I felt very vengeful. I wanted to slice the brother (the protagonist doesn't know, but I saw a scene of the brother).
What should I do, though?

My husband and I recently had our first baby. My husband has a good friend ("John") who leans far right politically. John knows my politics lean left. John lives in a different city and he recently came to meet our newborn baby. He didn't come with a gift but said he wanted to send one. The gift arrived in the mail today and it is a Pepe the frog stuffed toy. Pepe the frog is a character that gets used in political memes, it has been described as 'a symbol of the alt right' and has been used as a mascot for white supremacy. My husband is white and I am mixed race (one white parent, one black parent), so our baby is also mixed race. I personally am pretty shocked that someone would think it's appropriate to send this as a gift for a baby. Do you think I should say something to John? On the one hand I feel I should speak up about how inappropriate this is, and on the other hand I feel like he's purposefully attempting to cause problems and I don't want to give him the satisfaction of reacting to this gesture. How would you manage this scenario?

2024.05.14 03:20 MissLilianae [Spoilers] Random Lore Thought: Sharlayan Citizenry
So, I'm playing through the MSQ on an alternate character, started before NG+ was a thing and now that I've got the time to finish her out I want to get her done with MSQ before DT so I can have a raid alt.
I just got to the part of the Sharlayan story where you split and can either go to Noumenon or Thavnair. I elected to start with Noumenon this time as I remember going to Thavnair first on my main playthrough.
All that to say there's a part of the story where you talk to Krile outside the doors to Noumenon and she makes a comment that there are basically 3 levels of access to the library:
Level 1 - Anyone in the world who is in Sharlayan is permitted to look through the books stored on the first floor.
Level 2 - Any citizen of Sharlayan is allowed to peruse some of the lower levels.
Level 3 - Archons are allowed access to certain restricted sections of the library
I guess technically there's Level 4 - Assumedly the Forum can access any books in the library they wish, and this level of access can be granted to others as needed.
All that to say: It's assumed your character isn't natively from Sharlayan in the MSQ, and that got me thinking. World lore wise, there has be to a way for someone to become a citizen of Sharlayan other than by being born there, right? Even Sharlayan, home of the egotistical eggheads, wouldn't be so dense as to deny anyone with a true committment to their ideals a place in their nation, especially considering they're all refugees of the Fifth Calamity flooding.
I was curious if anyone can remember a side quest or something that specifies anything like this?

I’ve been gone from wow for a solid 10 years and I realize a LOT has changed. I am stoked on TWW and was leveling up before I realized Remix was happening and:
Does MoP Remix include some form of challenging end game loop? Everything I’ve watched and read about it makes it sound like a faceroll easy AoE spam and collector-centric story mode. Maybe because the M+ / raids scaling in difficulty system is so built in to wow at this point that people just gloss over it? Or maybe the whole point of remix lies in the alt power leveling so one just starts over once a character hits 70?

Windows 11 VM inside of hyper v on server 2022. Having an issue where it will commonly be locked out and unable to sign into, but I am not making any login attempts. My server as far as I know is not being logged onto. And remote connection to the VM is disabled. I just enabled the CTRL-ALT-DEL and changed to a 60 character password but still seeing the message. Any advice ? Also this is a local account not tied to a Microsoft account

Hi all, pretty new to D4. I have been playing bloodsurge necro and have been having a blast but I have started using guides and a lot of the guides / builds for necro seem to have major flaws, minus bone spear. My problem is I don't really make a lot of alts/I usually will just focus on one character and I dont really wanna grind something that can't play the game solo (I play at work). Am I wasting my time or is there potential rebalancing? I have read blood hits a damage ceiling that makes late game, especially the new pit content, very frustrating.

I might have missed something, but has anyone seen anything about the account-wide character limit in TWW?
My guess is it might not change, and I know it’s 60 characters per account, but I’m planning race class combos for alts and trying to see if I need to delete any while they’re all still low-level.

I'd wake up in the morning, kiss my wife, make a cup of coffee, throw on my uniform, and walk the beat. My beat. Where every day I'd say hello to the same townsfolk, pet the same dogs, and buy the same donut. Every. Single. Day.
It was routine. It was predictable. It was perfectly normal. And I loved it.
But then, one day... something changed.
One day... someone had to go and get themselves killed.
And the thing about murder in my town was... it had never happened before.
Cause the truth is... my town... wasn't real.
It was a fabrication. An illusion. An experiment. A "town" of actors, playing make believe on a literal soundstage built on an old airplane hangar out in the middle of nowhere. An "open world" within the confines of the hangar's walls, with no internet, or access to "the outside," as we called it. And everyone was in on it. Even me.
The only catch was... nobody knew why the soundstage even existed in the first place.
Some said it started out as a film shoot. Others said an immersive theater production. And some even said a roleplaying game. But I never saw any cameras, or curtains... or dice for that matter. For all intents and purposes, "the stage," as it had come to be known, was a living, breathing ecosystem, with its own currency, government, health insurance, education system, postal service, and of course... rules.
Rules like leaving your cell phone at the gate on your way in. Signing a non-disclosure agreement on your way out. And never, ever breaking character, or questioning the soundstage, while you're inside it.
Which is why, whenever my wife Laura and I did just that, we spoke in whispers.
"Murdered?" Laura asked.
"Murdered." I repeated.
"But that's never happened before?"
"I know. That's the thing."
"Well what happens now?"
"I mean if we were in the outside, the police - I mean, we, would investigate it."
"Well why don't you?"
"Honey, we're not equipped for that. None of us are actual cops. We're teachers, lawyers, janitors, and -"
"Criminals?" She asked, pointing to me, with the same cheeky smile that she always did, whenever she reminded me of my sorted past.
"And yes, criminals. Without any real authority, resources, or tools. I mean look at this, honey," I said, knocking on my gun, to a hollow sound. "How am I gonna catch a murderer with a wooden gun?"
"So what happens to the body?"
"They're burying it."
"Here? On the stage? Without an investigation? How can they get away with that?"
"Cause nobody in the outside knows about this place, Laura. And anyone who leaves here, is sworn to secrecy."

The next morning, the chief asked me to accompany him to the victim's private funeral, held at the stage's one and only church, and attended by only a select few privileged individuals.
"We come here to celebrate the life of Oscar Morris. Not mourn it." Father Mullen, our resident priest, began. A priest we all knew well, and whose sermons, for many, were the cornerstone of our small but tight knit community.
He then began to read from a passage that I read along with, in a book that I had picked up from the back of the pew.
But as I continued to scan the page, something about its words seemed strange to me. Strange... and unfamiliar. Like the passage had been changed.
But before I could dwell on the thought too long, Father Mullen finished reading. He then proceeded to share a couple fond memories of his few, but positive interactions with Oscar, before ending with a prayer, and sending us on our way.
"Let us go in peace." The priest said, before gesturing for a few of us to help pick up the casket, and carry it out of the church, where it was to be taken away to be buried in some far off corner of the stage.
Remembering Oscar to be a heavyset man, I leaned into my boots in such a way as to brace myself for the weight of the casket, but when I finally picked it up, I discovered that it was quite light.
And as I helped the others carry the wooden box out of the church, my mind couldn't help but race.
Wait a minute. Oscar's body should feel heavier than this. Even with his weight distributed across four men, there's no way that the casket would feel this light. That must mean... that the body of Oscar Morris must not be in the casket. And begs the question... where is it then? After placing the casket in the hearse, I pulled Father Mullen aside.
"Father, I'm not quite sure how to tell you this... but something's... not right about Oscar's casket." I whispered to the old man.
"Whatever do you mean, my son?" He whispered back.
"It felt... very light. And Oscar was a heavy man. We should check to make sure he's inside-"
But the priest interrupted me.
"May I have a word with you in the rectory?"

Father Mullen then led me back through the church, past the pulpit, and into his small office, shutting the door behind him.
And after taking a seat on the other side of an oak desk, he gestured for me to sit down across from him.
"You were saying?" The priest continued.
"Father, I don't think that Oscar's body is in that casket."
He paused for a minute, before smiling, and ironically, making a confession to me.
"Well of course it's not."
"Of course?"
"It's a sacrifice."
"A sacrifice? For what purpose would Oscar's death have been justified?"
"No, no, my son. His body is literally being sacrificed."
"That's a funny one, Father." I chuckled.
But Father Mullen reassured me that he was serious. "I'm afraid it's not a joke. He's to be ritualistically sacrificed tonight, and all of the blood drained from his body."
I stopped and took a moment to compose my thoughts.
"You're... actually sacrificing Oscar? To what end? And why?"
"Can I be frank with you for a minute?" The priest said, leaning forward on the desk, as he loosened his collar.
"Sure."
"Listen. This place... this... stage... is exactly that. A front. A facade. For what's really going on. And what is really going on... is best for you not to know. Let's just say, these people... these townsfolk that we let live here. Their stay here... doesn't come without a cost."
"But-"
"You're not really a cop, right? Just a regular guy, playing one?" The priest reasoned.
"No, I'm not a real cop." I agreed.
"Well, I'm not a real priest. Think of it that way."
"I just don't understand."
"Now, that leaves you with three options. One. You can either stop snooping around, go back to being a cop, and turn a blind eye to any murders or disappearances here on the stage. Two. You can leave the town today, return to the outside, and keep your mouth shut forever. Or three... You can die."
He then leaned back in his seat, and gave me the opportunity to think it over. But I didn't quite know how to process what he'd revealed to me, let alone the options that he'd presented, or the threat, and said nothing.
"Oh, and if you don't believe what we're capable of," Father Mullen continued, "You can ask your wife."

By the time I ran all the way back to my apartment, and burst through the door... it was too late.
The priest's men had already broken in, tied up my wife, and left her sitting there, crying at the kitchen table, as she stared at the decapitated head of Oscar Morris, just lying there on a plate.
Breaking Laura free of her bonds, I then led her into the other room, where I proceeded to tell her about my encounter with the priest... and his ominous implications about Oscar and the soundstage.
So we did what any right minded individuals would do, packing our bags right then and there, walking over to the gate, signing two non-disclosure agreements, collecting our belongings and cell phones, leaving "the stage," and returning to "the outside."
And in the ten years that have passed since we left, we've always honored the NDA and the priest's request to never, ever tell anyone else about the soundstage on the old airplane hangar out in the middle of nowhere, and what's really going on inside there...
...Until now.

2024.05.13 19:26 CryptographerOk9140 No Character Wipe is Ridiculous
A full year without characters wiping is absolutely atrocious. I’ve already prepared for the comments telling me to stop bitching, but you guys simply don’t play on the console official servers that I do. It’s pretty fucking frustrating when 3-4 towns at any given time are inaccessible because dupers with alts have put up millions of walls. Hopefully that will cite some of you to tell me that the walls will be gone, only you would be completely wrong because the very second the half-ass wipe (ha) is about to happen, they will easily fish out 50 boxes of the nails they’ve DUPLICATED throughout the months from one of their boxes and rebuild within seconds of a wiped map. All this is not to mention the affect that alts have had. It may seem like a difficult issue to track, but people hording items on their alts is yet another exploit of the game that the devs will continue to allow these console wolves to follow. (I’m not saying to enforce the ability to use an alt any further. However, when you go a full fucking year without wiping that is a FULL YEAR that some loot is sitting on a rando tucked behind a base)
It’s hilarious that duping is even still an issue all these years later. If you think about it, it is one of the easiest ways to completely and fundamentally destroy the attractive aspects of an official experience. You don’t need to worry about the apocalypse being barren, because a community that would put Alexandria to shame, with millions of walls and ammo, which was actually build by one random duper from Brazil prolly, is already up and running in Brena!
Not to mention how it affects the loot economy, like yea the M4 is rare for ME, and it’s rewarding when I get it, but when I fish it off a guy with 7 60 rounders for it, I know where the fuck it came from. That’s why it’s particularly hilarious when people bitch about how dupers shouldn’t affect your experience. Bitch do you know how badly duping screws with the game???? I haven’t even mentioned that the Livonia server I play on has like one visible car on the map at most, because the DUPERS can build MASSIVE BASES in a DAY and DUPE all the car parts and STASH all the cars. If you didn’t know, you should REALLY know that there is a limited number of each model car per map. (2 trucks for example)
Tl;dr not wiping characters is a mistake, and any official console player worth his chops can clearly recognize the issues that it is refusing to solve.
