2024.04.30 23:44 PumpkinSpiceAngel D100 Lost Souls in a Haunted Mansion

Hi there! I'm planning on playtesting a modified version of the House of Lament adventure from VGtR (2e story within the framework of the 5e adventure in a homebrew setting) sometime in the future and am looking for ideas as to what sort of lost souls would be trapped inside of a haunted house after succumbing to the horrors within. Without further ado, let's call in the spirits, wherever they're at!

D100 Lost Souls in a Haunted Mansion

  1. Hugolina Voziv, a former maid who went insane before dying under mysterious circumstances. Often manifests as a woman in a maid's uniform with messy hair and a terrified expression, whispering about "the voices".
  2. Harvey Peacewing, Nephew of the mansion's owner who vanished during a party. Despite his current situation, all known encounters have been positive, with the spirit maintaining a friendly demeanor toward visitors.
  3. Kenshin Tao, A budding paranormal investigator who took up one of the initial investigations. They are known to be seen (or heard) pacing around a room, pondering a piece of evidence.
  4. Bilga the Mighty, A half-orc fighter who perished with her adventuring party while staying the night at the house. When she is not perpetually standing guard where her party fell, she can often be seen recreating the struggle with a dark entity that led to her demise.
  5. Eleanor, A teenage girl who passed away after being dared to spend the night in the house alone. She can often be heard weeping or begging to be taken home.
  6. The Beast, A large jungle cat that was once kept as an exotic pet by one of the previous owners. Had to be put down by the gamekeeper after it escaped and started attacking the staff. (u/World_of_Egaar)
  7. Eudora Beiki, The Blasted Mage, A former court magician who vaporized herself in a freak arcane accident. The only remnant of her existence is scorch marks and her shadow on the ruined walls. She manifests herself as a shadow, often leaving a lingering smell of sulfur and scorched handprints as a sign of her presence. (u/World_of_Egaar)
  8. Greaves, The Butler, The floating visage of a savagely mauled manservant, missing much of the lower half of his body. He was one of the first to fall victim to the escaped jungle cat and the animal was not reported as missing until many days later, giving it plenty of time to consume Greaves' legs in one of the upstairs cloakrooms. His legs were never found and so his body remains incomplete in its casket. (u/World_of_Egaar)
  9. Bartholomew, the resident mouser (cat), Mischievous, makes things go bump and move, a nuisance that sometimes is behind you, just out of the corner of your eye. Sometimes heard screeching down dark hallways, sometimes yellow glowing eyes hover on the top of shelves or door frames. (u/smiles__)
  10. Bertrand Honeydew: a literal lost soul, unable to find his way around the house. Befuddled and always asking for directions to the "stables" unaware that he died when they burned to the ground and were never replaced. (u/veldrinshade)
  11. Bobby the Bootblack, a young working boy with a thick Cockney accent, this boy of between ten and twelve seems to be a pickpocket and when he is around you will find loose items missing from your person only for them to turn up later in a different room of the house. (u/veldrinshade)
  12. Sybil the Banshee, a medium who was trapped inside a secret room following a seance gone wrong. It is rumored that she eventually went mad before eventually succumbing to starvation. To this day, guests of the manor report her screams echoing throughout the house. (u/World_of_Egaar)
  13. Vivian Kedran, a party guest who died from "accidentally" breaking her neck (even though rumors swirl that she was killed to cover up a scandal). While she is still as beautiful as she was in life, it is noted that she wears an elaborate choker to hide the broken neck. She has been described as sociable, often flirting with guests. When guests follow her, she vanishes upon reaching the room where she died. (u/veldrinshade)
  14. Lord Hugh Bartholomew Francis II, the original owner of the house who was murdered by an unknown assailant. His bloodied spirit can be seen looking for something, even though the exact details of what this thing is are not known. (u/Adventux)
  15. Lady Sadras (Drilaca) Francis, former lady of the house and widow of Lord Francis II. Shortly after her husband's funeral, she was found dead from a suspected poisoning (whether it was self-inflicted or murder has not been known). Her spirit is often seen in old-fashioned mourning wear, occasionally asking unsuspecting travelers to help solve her husband's demise. (u/Adventux)
  16. The Curious Sage, a scholar dressed in robes of a centuries-old school. While their identity is unknown, the spirit seems to be aware of their passing and seems to be curious about their predicament and the house itself. While they seem to be relatively peaceful, many guests have become annoyed by the insistence of the sage's questions. (u/AlephAndTentacles)
  17. Dara O'Sullivan, a day laborer who was part of the original construction crew decades ago. He manifests sitting on an upturned bucket wiping sweat off of his brow or carrying a friendly conversation with a party who is not present. Despite the rod impaling him (the cause of his death), it doesn't appear to bother him and is otherwise oblivious to it or the presence of the living. (u/smiles__)
  18. Bonny, an old retired hunting hound. She's docile and blind, but her nose is still as sharp as ever, and is prone to a few rough barks when something catches her attention. Often found either sitting by the fireplace, head resting on her paws, or outside a back door waiting patiently to be taken on one last hunt. (u/smiles__)
  19. Henrietta, a young girl prone to adventure. While climbing the facade on a dare from some friends, she fell through a rotted portion of the roof, resulting in her death. While she can often be heard calling out as she falls, it has recently been noted that she prefers to manifest in front of adventurers, providing whatever assistance she can if they tell her stories about their travels. (u/smiles__)
  20. Theodore "Ted" O'Sullivan - No relation to Dara. A blacksmith's apprentice and wannabe adventurer from a village in the Sword Coast. Got tricked into thinking he was the Chosen One by a bunch of singing goblins, went off to slay evil, got lost in the woods, and was eaten by an owlbear. What does he have to do with the mansion? Nothing, he just has a lousy sense of direction. He's a lost lost soul. (u/Moon_Dew)
  21. Moria Melline, an acrobatic performer invited by the former lords and ladies for a festivity. Died in a very public chandelier accident and her spirit can sometimes be spotted hanging in unnatural ways from chandeliers and other ceiling furniture, with a confusing number of hands and feet and always silently looking at you. She disappears when the room is illuminated, always accompanied by the sound of shattering glass. (u/AwkwardOwl17)

Found a copy of TGK’s Eudora 25th Anniversary LP!!
I grew up on The Get Up Kids back in high school/college back in 99-2007 and recently been trying to get my favorite albums on vinyl. Right now I have Something to Write Home About, The Guilt Show, Simple Science, and there are rules. Eudora and On A Wire are on my list.
I was at my local brick and mortar record store today and had asked if they had any Get Up Kids and the employee responded “I wish!”. So feeling defeated, I started flipping through the “new” record section and wouldn’t you know - tucked away was the Eudora 25th Anniversary LP! I was so stoked - I love the version of I’m A Loner Dottie and Suffragette City shreds!

2024.03.05 20:21 gorlak29 Ratchet and clank (2002-2016 composite)

The story begins on top of the planet Tenemule in the Solana Galaxy, President Drek, his lieutenant Victor Von Ion and his assistant Zed meet their fellow Blargs aboard the Deplanetizer, a space station with the power to destroy entire planets. The Blarg fires the Deplanetizer at Tenemule, completely destroying it. On the planet Veldin, a young mechanic named Ratchet learns that three planets have mysteriously disappeared and the Galactic Guardians are being sent to deal with the situation. An old man arrives looking for his ship, which Ratchet was repairing, and finds that his ship now has a mag-booster, a device that makes the ship magnetic. After several problems, the old man asks for a refund, which angers Ratchet's boss and mentor, Grimroth Razz. Later, he discovers that the leader of the Galactic Guards, the self-centered Captain Qwark , is planning to visit Veldin, looking for a new recruit for the team. Despite Grim telling him he won't make it, Ratchet tries to join, only to be rejected by Qwark moments later.
At a factory on the planet Quartu, Drek and Zed visit Dr. Nefarious, a mad scientist who wants to help Drek destroy the guards. Nefarious is building war robots programmed to destroy the guards, Especially Qwark since he was his school bully and his disrespectful exboss when he was part of the galactic guard. At that point, the system fails by a Quantic storm and creates a tiny, flawed but intelligent robot. Having acquired Drek's plans to destroy the Galactic Guardians, he attempts to escape, so Drek and Nefarious send Victor to capture the Defect. The defect manages to lose Victor and climbs into an escape pod and tries to travel to Kerwan to warn the guards, but as soon as he is ejected Victor fires two missiles and damages the pod.
On Veldin, Grim comforts Ratchet, but Ratchet goes outside to repair the damaged ship , but he can't because he needs a robotic ignition system, which saddens him to think that it only causes trouble. At that moment the capsule with the defect falls nearby, Ratchet rescues it and takes it to the workshop, After picking it up, Ratchet will attempt to run the ship, and then, the little robot wakes up and helps him power up the ship to warn the rangers.
Sneaking out of Veldin, Ratchet calls the robot Clank to abbreviate its factory name. Because the navigation system had been wiped out in the accident, they enter the Novalis sector and are attacked by Drek's troops. After crashing, they rescue the Scared Mayor of Tobruk crater, Agnogg Buckwash, who asks them to save his nephew Skidd McMarx in Aridia, and also helped a plumber who fixes his shuñ and give them the coordinates for Kerwan, from an infobot about a Roboshack in Aleero city. Meanwhile in Kerwan, the two agents of the Q-force (Elite members of the Galactic Guard), Brax Lectrus and Cora Veralux are talking about why in this situation, Qwark has gone to present hoverboard racing in Rilgar, are ambushed by the blargian war robots, led by Lieutenant Victor. Traveling to Kerwan, they discover that Drek's invasion is already in progress. Using their ship's arsenal, they destroy Blargian's transports and mothership, but they narrowly survive a bomb planted in the ship's hull by Victor's men. With the help of Big Al, an electronics engineer and owner of the roboshack who installs a helipack in Clank , they thwart an attempt by the invaders to destroy the Hall of Heroes with a train loaded with explosives. As a reward for their attendance, Brax and Cora allows them to join the Rangers temporarily until Qwark's authorization and provides them with a new ship. Before the first mission, Ratchet and clank beat Helga (Qwark's personal trainer) 's training course and "win" the Swingsgot.
Also before embarking on their first mission, the two travel to Aridia and rescue Skidd and his agent from the Blarg. Skidd gives them his hoverboard, as well as an invitation to a racing tournament on the planet Rilgar. They also get the Ganzuotron to hack systems on specific doors. In Eudora our heroes save the planet from blarg deforestation and after finishing investigating the Logging Site and getting the suction cannon they decide to go see the Sergeant (Who was a degraded Victor, ready to put an end to the lombax that annoyed him in Kerwan and the defective bot) After fought him decides to run away and, without seeing it, drops an infobot. In it they see a video where Drek offers all kinds of work in Nebula G34, where our heroes will find two objects, the hydro displacement and the Grind boots. After exploring the space station full of Blargs and mutated Orxon fauna, they head to the planet Rilgar, where they will participate in a hoverboard race and meet Qwark.
Ratchet wants to participate but learns that the race has been cancelled due to an outbreak of Blargian Ameboids. After he manages to eliminate them, the race is reopened and Ratchet wins the grand prize. Using a shortcut in the sewers, they arrive to meet Captain Qwark for the first time. Ratchet and Clank become instant celebrities thanks to their heroic actions on Novalis, Kerwan and Eudora, which makes Qwark jealous. Under pressure from the press, Qwark makes Ratchet and Clank official Q-Force members.
In Orxon's orbit, Victor, Zed, Nefarious, and his butler Lawrence meets in Drek's office. Drek complains to Nefarious, saying that he promised him that his robots would destroy the guards, and then to Victor, because he didn't do his job well in Kerwan and Eudora. Nefarious proposes to Drek to attack the guards from within, pitting one against the others, and they eventually settle on Qwark.
Ratchet meets Brax and Cora on the training field, while Clank is assigned the Guardians' support team with Elaris , who is routinely ignored by Qwark. They both study the destroyed planets and discover that Drek has been mining portions containing tourist attractions from each other. They try to warn Qwark and Ratchet, but Ratchet ignores them. At this point in the story, Ratchet and Clank's relationship is somewhat strained due to their differences how to act. Ratchet thinking a little bit only about himself and Clank about saving the galaxy.
They receive news that Drek is moving to attack a Ranger outpost on the planet Batalia. Upon arriving in Batalia, Ratchet, Clank and Cora meet two soldiers, one of them is an army commander, who gives them an infobot that shows the coordinates of the planet Orxon, where they will find the magnetoboots, of which they are necessary to cross to the other part of the city (where the StarWatch Cannon is located) , and the other military man is a deserter from the army, which gives them an infobot with coordinates to the planet Gaspar where they will find the Dr Nefarious,s New Levitator, necessary to their incursion to Drek,s base.
Due to Orxon's walled and polluted nature, only Clank can explore, he finds the Magnetoboots for Ratchet. With the help of the plumber in Batalia, they manage to drive the Blarg off the planet using the StarWatch Cannon. As soon as they upgraded their Protosuit to survive in Orxon, they would return to explore the Blarg ruins. On their way to Gaspar, they receive a message from Grim, that the Blarg are draining the planet Pokitaru of its fresh water and replace it with their contaminated water, threatening a nearby compound run by Grim's brother. Once they arrive in Pokitaru, they get the O2 mask for defeating the blarg and an upgrade for Clank, the aviopack, from Bob (Big Al,s Brother Who has a roboShack in Pokitaru) .
On planet Gaspar they found a research center run by Nefarious. A Blargian scientist hires them to collect brain samples from Nefarious' experiments, exchanging them for a Levitator. After getting all they need, they decide to return to Orxon, where they will find one last infobot with the coordinates to the bomb factory, on the planet Hoven, where our heroes (alongside Brax and some troops from the Galactic Guard) would destroy a bomb prepared to annihilate an entire planet (They discover that this was just the discarded prototype of the weapon that is wreaking havoc in the Galaxy). After such a feat, they make their way to Gemlik Base in Oltanis' orbit where they will once again be ambushed by Victor, this time on a ship. After defeating Victor, the duo (now more united after so many misadventures) head to the planet Oltanis where they will get An autograph from Qwark after stealing credit in an interview about the Rangers and an infobot from a Deaf Scavenger, which would contain the coordinates of the robot factory on the planet Quartu. Afterwards, the Guardians infiltrate Quartu's factory. They are ambushed and the group splits up. Ratchet, Clank, and Cora access Drek's files and discover his true plan: using the Deplanetizer, an armed space station created by Nefarious, Drek attempts to build a replacement planet from fragments of the other worlds, as their Homeworld, Orxon, had been contaminated beyond the greyish green surface.
Qwark finds Drek, tries to arrest him but is stopped by a heavy damaged Victor, then listens to Drek. he offers to help boost his image despite Ratchet's popularity, as long as he helps him. Qwark accepts Drek's deal, as long as if he leaves the guards out of this, Drek agrees not to hurt them. Then, Drek, Victor, Nefarious, Lawrence, and the rest of the Blargs escape in a pod to the Deplanetizer. Before leaving, Drek intentionally abandons Zed, who is captured by the guards. Zed tells them that the next planet is Cora's homeworld of Novalis, home to millions of people. On the Phoenix ship, the guards prepare to enter the Deplanetizer, while Novalis is being evacuated. Qwark, under Drek's orders, deactivates the Guardians' weapons.
Upon learning that his next target is Novalis, Qwark goes to "negotiate" with Drek while the other Rangers fight his forces outside the station. Ratchet manages to successfully board the station. Meanwhile, Clank and Elaris hear a noise, and Clank goes to investigate only to meet Victor, who has boarded the Phoenix to destroy Clank. Cora and Brax search for Qwark, but he has disappeared, while Ratchet attempts to disable the Deplanetizer. On the Phoenix, Elaris attempts to confront Victor, but is defeated and Clank discovers that he is not waterproof, so he heads to the weapons room and grabs a storm-creating one.
Victor ignores him and tells him that it's just a flaw, Clank replies that it might, but that it's waterproof. It starts to rain and Victor tries to destroy Clank, but he rusts and curses him one last time before deactivating himself. Zed, who was imprisoned on the ship, catches Clank's attention and asks if he can switch sides.
Ratchet is about to deactivate the station but is discovered and captured by Drek, who tells him that he lived his entire life on a dark planet. Along the way, Ratchet discovers Qwark, learning that he has betrayed them. Drek throws Ratchet into a pod so that he and the Guardians can only watch as Novalis is destroyed. Qwark is horrified and confused by what happened.
Later, after Victor's funeral, Drek orders New Orxon to be taken to the side of the Deplanetizer, then a portal appears and out of it comes New Orxon, made from the pieces of the destroyed planets.
Ratchet returns to Veldin with Grim, riddled with guilt And wrath for that Qwark tricked him all the time. Clank and the Guardians find him and tell him that without Qwark, they need another guardian to return. With Novalis destroyed, the Deplanetizer's next and final destination is Veldin itself because of its Orbit, which scares Grim. Zed explains that this was a last-minute change to humiliate Ratchet. In the Deplanetizer, Qwark sees Drek and, to his surprise, Nefarious, who had supposedly died in an attempted prison break. Nefarious tells him that, with people, he says anything at a good price, referring to Qwark. Drek exiles Qwark by telling him that Nefarious is trustworthy, and he listens and leaves.
Drek, as payment to Nefarious for his services, gives him his secret robot factory of Mount Magmos in Umbris and 1 hectare of land in New Orxon. He accepts everything happily, laughs maniacally and leaves with Lawrence on a shuttle to Umbris while Qwark watches them through a window. In reality, Drek posted the location of his "secret" base on the Internet for the Rangers to capture Nefarious.
With his confidence restored, Ratchet heads to the planet Kalebo III, where the Blarg have staged an attack on Gadgetron's headquarters to acquire their arsenal of advanced weaponry. The company's president asks him to chase away the attackers in time for the next championship race, with a Holo-Guise as the prize. After gaining the device and an impromptu hoverboard ad, Ratchet confers with the Rangers before heading to Drek,s Fleet. There, disguised as Qwark, He tried to get to the Deplanetizer, but it was just a holographic decoy. In Drek's flagship, he faces off against the real Qwark. After a brief fight, Qwark realizes his mistake and apologizes to Ratchet and Clank for his betrayal. He also tells her that the real Deplanetizer has landed on Veldin, on the Kyzyl Plateau. The fleet maintains the Galactic Guard busy, so Ratchet and clank are the only hope for Veldin, Meanwhile, Qwark goes to Umbris to confront Nefarious and accidentally falls onto a robot assembly line.
Already at the Veldin,s Deplanetizer, Drek confesses to the duo the climax of his plan, he planned to generate an empire by exploiting the ruined planets of Solana, amassing an immense fortune. After a hard-fought battle against Drek that ends with Drek's mech hurtling towards New Orxon with Drek inside, Ratchet and Clank redirect the Deplanetizer towards Drek's artificial planet and completely exterminate it. In New Orxon, Drek sees the Deplanetizer's lightning bolt fall on New Orxon, destroying the planet and killing Drek.
Having thwarted Drek and Dr. Nefarious, the other Guardians return to a hero's welcome on Kerwan, with Qwark brazenly trying to promote his autobiography by apologizing for his betrayal. Ratchet and Clank meet on Veldin, with Ratchet promising that he will rejoin the Guards when needed, But not before enjoying the benefits of having saved the galaxy.
Meanwhile in Umbris, Lawrence deactivates the assembly line of Robots, and out of a pile of scrap metal, Nefarious emerges resurrected as a Robot.
Finally, Ratchet and Clank decide to stay in Veldin for a while, and as their first adventure ends ,they turn off the TV for the very embarrassing new Qwark ad for Gadgetron,s hygienizer comes out.

With the help of the plumber in Batalia, they manage to drive the Blarg off the planet.
After defeating Victor, they head to the planet Oltanis where they will get An autograph from Qwark after stealing credit in an interview about the Rangers and an infobot from a Deaf Scavenger, which would contain the coordinates of the robot factory on the planet Quartu. Afterwards, the Guardians infiltrate Quartu's factory. They are ambushed and the group splits up. Ratchet, Clank, and Cora access Drek's files and discover his true plan: using the Deplanetizer, an armed space station created by Nefarious, Drek attempts to build a replacement planet from fragments of the other worlds, as their planet Orxon had been contaminated beyond the greyish green surface.
Later, after Victor's funeral, Drek orders New Orxon to be taken to the side of the Deplanetizer, then a portal appears and out of it comes New Quartu, made from the pieces of the destroyed planets.
Drek, as payment to Nefarious for his services, gives him his secret base in Umbris and 1 hectare of land in New Orxon. He accepts everything happily, laughs maniacally and leaves with Lawrence on a shuttle to Umbris while Qwark watches them through a window.
After gaining the device, Ratchet confers with the Rangers before heading to Drek,s Fleet. Already at the Veldin,s Deplanetizer, Drek confesses to the duo the climax of his plan, he planned to generate an empire by exploiting the ruined planets of Solana amassing an immense fortune.
Ratchet and Clank meet on Veldin, with Ratchet promising that he will rejoin the Guards when needed.
Meanwhile in Umbris, Lawrence deactivates the assembly line of Robots, and out of a pile of scrap metal, Nefarious emerges resurrected as a Robot.
Finally, Ratchet and Clank decide to stay in Veldin for a while, and as their first adventure ends ,they turn off the TV for the very embarrassing new Qwark ad for Gadgetron comes out.

Κασσιέπεια
The mother of Andromeda and wife of King Cepheus, Kassiópeia bragged that her daughter was more beautiful than the Nereids, nymphs of the sea who were renowned for their beauty, with Amphitrite being the wife of Poseidon. Kassiópeia's statements angered Poseidon, who sent the Kêtos Aithiopios to ravage the lands of Aithiopia. To appease the anger of the Sea God, Andromeda was chained to a rock to be eaten by the Kêtos before she was rescued by the hero Perseus. Kassiópeia was placed into the stars as the constellation Cassiopeia along with Andromeda, Perseus, the Kêtos, Cepheus and Pegasus by Athena as fulfillment of a promise the Goddess made to Andromeda.

Backstory:

While most would consider astronomy a science. Alice Dawson considered it an art, as much an art as singing or dancing, and that's exactly how she met the Ourania while working as an astronomer at NASA, her passion to her art and stellar beauty having attracted the attention of the Muse. The pair fell in love and were together for 3 months, at the end of which Alice discovered a new star, aided by the inspiration provided to her by her Muse, and decided to name it Urania to honor her, even if she didn't know her muse was The Muse, finding their names a funny coincidence. The discovery earnt her much renown amongst her peers, but a week after, she found her lover missing and in her place a silver cradle with a child and a note explaining the real identity of Ourania and an explanation of everything that happened. Including the child, Alice's child, and while she was heartbroke, Alice loved the child more than anything she'd ever loved. Perhaps even more than she had Ourania, and at her suggestion she named her Aaliyah, Aaliyah meaning "the exalted one".
By demigod standards, Aaliyah had a fairly normal childhood. Her mother knew the truth but hid it from her till the time was right. That time being last month, December of 2038 after a Stymphalian Bird attack that would've left the girl severely injured if it wasn't for the satyr who rescued her. That also happened to be the first monster encounter ever had in her life, at least face to face. She'd seen monsters, and other things that by all means shouldn't exist but had it attributed to an overactive imagination. It's safe to say that she was pissed when she found out the truth, though the anger could not last long once she realised what this meant. So she was not crazy, and there had been a secret magical world hidden away from her in plain sight like those stories her mom used to read to her, and not only that but the Greek Myths she'd grown up reading and loving. The fact that her mother was the Muse of Astronomy was just the cherry on the cake, though the biology of her conception still eluded her.
It made sense, she supposed. She'd been a theatre kid her whole life. The best, if she did say so herself, even having gone across states to perform. Opportunities was only one of the perks that came with going to a fairly rich-people school. She'd also made a name as a captivating orator and despite her cheerful, airheaded demeanor, a terrifying debater. If that wasn't enough, she'd joined her first climate change protest at the ripe old age of 13 after having snuck out of her house and somehow having navigated her way to the protest and back. That was when she met her satyr best friend, George (He claimed it was short for George Strawberry-Bush but she didn't buy it till he revealed himself to be a satyr.)
Well, several more peaceful and some less-than-peaceful protests and more than a few viral speeches and one monster attack later, Aaliyah Dawson was ready to go to Camp to continue her overly-positive-idealist-climate-activist-theatre-kid-astronomer shennanegans.
Thytêrios
The Altar of Zeus, when Zeus had gathered allies for the Titan War, they made sacrifices on an atlar constructed by the Cyclopes to pledge their alliegance. In memorial the god placed it amongst the stars as the constellation Ara. The rising of its stars heralded the storms of late autumn.

-TL: Yet even round that Altar ancient Nyx, sad for the suffering of men, has set an important sign of storm at sea. -An extract from Phenomena by Aratus

Now:

Ally's first day at Camp so far had been pretty standard for a newbie to Camp, aside from the being chased uphill by monsters part. The unclaimed daughter of astronomy had managed to avoid that luckily, likely due to the fact that her scent was still pretty weak. Aside from that, she'd been given a quick intro and tour around by a rather nice girl who claimed to be a daughter of Hades. She was nice, don't get Ally wrong, she just found her a bit strange considering she'd offered her a bone after leading her to the Hermes Cabin. Ally just took it, though she wasn't entirely sure what she was going to do with it, the girl seemed a bit awkward as it was and she'd hate to hurt someone's feelings on her first day at Camp (that is not to say that she'd like to hurt people feelings at all, it just wouldn't be nice setting up a false reputation like that on her first day here). She didn't stay at the Cabin long though, only staying long enough to say hi to some of the kids there and throw her bags into her room before setting off to explore Camp on her own. That didn't take long either, she was naturally pretty great at navigation. Her mom told her it came from her mom. The other one, that is, the one who is supposedly a goddess.
While that was certainly a lot to wrap her head around, Ally believed it. She knew those things she'd seen her life all her life were real, and if there was any doubt, the things she saw here definitely cleared her of it. Like seriously? Wasn't a lava climbing wall a bit overkill, even for a camp full of godlings? Not to mention, she was pretty sure she saw a girl throw electricity from her body at the training dummies at the arena while stabbing it with her spear. The Hades girl (She was pretty sure her name was Ramona) had mentioned she lived at the Hermes Cabin. She seemed interesting enough, maybe they could be friends! Though judging by her angry she looked, Ally decided now wasn't the time for that. Especially considering the glare she'd gotten when she went to greet her and ask her what was wrong. Nope. Not today. Not on her first day.
Her next stop was by the Forge. She figured it was the right place to enquire about the weapons that her mom (the goddess one) had supposedly left for her, the chakrams. She ran into a kinda short dude outside. He struck her as... She wasn't sure. Something about him just seemed, as if he was planning on her murder as he explained the mechanics of Celestial Bronze and the related details in a rather condescending tone. He ended up explaining it pretty nicely, even if she did feel like he was gonna murder her before the night ended. They were going to be friends, she just knew it, even if he didn't. This Camp was full of Weirdos, she loved it already, and while her exploration of Camp didn't take that long since she wasn't just roaming about aimlessly, the day was over by the time she was done. She was planning on heading back to the Hermes Cabin to unpack but apparently it was time for the Campfire!
She didn't know that was a thing here, but was delighted when she found out. That seemed fun! She'd probably kill at the sing-along, if there was one and suddenly she found herself craving some marshmallows, so she skipped happily over to the Campfire.
And turns out she didn't need to go over to the Hermes Cabin after all, her brief "stay" at the cabin if you could even call it that ending very quickly.
See, child of muse of astronomy and a nasa scientist or not, Ally had still spent almost her entire life in a city. City meant light pollution, which meant she wasn't used to seeing the sky be full of stars like it was supposed to be, ever. Closest she'd ever get were pictures in astronomy magazines and what little she could see through telescopes, but Camp was far from any big city. Enough, that the night sky was displaying its full starry glory with countless, gorgeous pinpricks of light adorning the dress of Lady Nyx as she shrouded the realm into darkness. Most Campers would be used to this, but Ally wasn't. To say that she was starstruck was an understatement.
Ally blinked as she looked up at the sky. Stars. Hundreds, thousands of them. Countless stars. She'd always heard that that's how it was supposed to be, that the stars in the sky were countless, but it was her first time actually seeing it. Living in the city had meant she got lucky if she was stars in the double digits, forget even a hundred. She'd heard that apparently you could see the milky way through naked eyes on a clear night, but never before had she actually been able to spot it. Not until today of course, her eyes drifted to it naturally without her having to look for it.
She didn't even care if she looked like Tantalus inside a bakery right now. She was absolutely starstruck. Literally. She hadn't even realised when the tear dropped had rolled down her cheek, though the people around her were too busy with the singalong for her to realise. Another thing she hadn't noticed was how they seemed to fall into silence moments later. Or how or when she'd stood up and started singing herself. The area around her seemed dark suddenly despite the fire but out of nowhere, there were spotlights on her, as if starlight itself was weaving itself to put the focus on her. That didn't explain where the background music came from, but she was too entranced to question that right now. And so was everyone around her it seemed like. They seemed almost... compelled to pay attention to her and her singing. It was not just the spotlights. Normally a situation like this would be enough to make even her have a panic attack from the nervousness, but for some reason she felt confident now. Really confident. And it reflected on her face with how her appearance seemed to have shifted, her skin now glittering with starlight and her hair shimmering a faint silver. So did her eyes, infact.
Ally didn't even know when she'd turned the Campfire into her own impromptu concert, but by the time she snapped back to consciousness during the crescendo of the song, it was too late to stop now. Sudden awakening of powers or not, that would still be awkward. She was so befuddled that she didn't even question the sudden spotlights and background music. She also didn't notice the silver astrolabe hologram that had appeared over her head as she reached the final verse of the song. She felt like she was in a movie right now. Or well, more like a musical considering how she'd randomly burst into song and suddenly spotlights appeared on her and mysterious background musictm had filled the air. That still didn't explain the sudden shift in her appearance or how the people surrounding her seemed as entranced by her performance as she had been by the stars.
She was panting when she finally finished her performance. The background music faded away slowly, and so did the spotlights. And so did the effect of her performance, as people seemed to gain back their wits. The change in appearance and hologram hadn't faded though, and she probably wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for the fact that everyone present was staring above her head.
Wait, was this the thing that Hades girl had been talking about? Claiming?
Ally's eyes widened.
Well. It certainly was a dramatic enough moment for her to get claimed, it seemed her mother did have a flair for drama fitting for a muse. Even if it did put her in a really awkward position. Not knowing what else to do, Ally let out a shuddering breath as she looked around, and bowed. And let the sound of applause and cheering that followed overwhelm her.

2023.11.15 06:38 Different_Wasabi6081 Why are people picking Rafaela/Supports when a tank is needed especially in lower ranks?

Hi, I am a casual player of the game and used to be Mythic Honor but due to school, can only play 1-2 games a day so now I reside around Legend 2 with a 56% win rate. Recently, I've had multiple games where someone completely griefs the composition by picking supports (when a frontline was needed) causing us to instantly lose.
This applies to most supports in General as well when they are picked
Lets use Rafaela as an example of how a Support can be extremely good and PISS-USELESS at the same time.
I'm not saying Rafaela is a bad hero or useless or the player is bad but the hero just shouldn't be picked in some situations since it makes the game completely unplayable for your team and a free win for the enemy. If the enemy has bush-dominant(very good at killing carries such as mages and marksman) heroes like Eudora, Zilong, Yin, etc and your xp laner isn't playing a pure-tank (e.g Gatot, Frederinn) please don't pick Rafaela, she can't check the bushes, She can't zone for shit, her heal doesn't save anyone and her stun is piss-useless since she just gets bursted before she can throw down a meaningful one. Same is for if the enemy team is an extremely tanking frontline team, Rafaela's movement speed boost is practically useless as a tanky team probably won't run away and a solo-queue team probably can't coordinate very well, especially in lower ranks to use it to hit and run.
If you look at the pro-teams who utilise supports such as Raefela to the greatest such as Blacklist, they often pair her up with a tank jungle such as Frederinn and Barats in the sidelane so they HAVE A FRONTLINE who CAN USE Rafaela's utility. IF you don't have someone who can actually go in, zone, check bushes relatively safely, then sure Rafaela is a great pick! Go for it
I understand if you want to become the Top one global Rafaela(or whatever support) or have very good skin or whatever reason you have but please remember to look at the enemy comp and yours. A lot of the time I see people complaining about bad teammates making their Winrate bad are often Support/Roamers (who don't pick frontline) and make the game completely unplayable for their laners (I see a lot of these guys have <50% winrate). I understand some games are unwinnable and your teammates are truly bad but a lot of the games are just support players who instantly lose by just not using their brain when drafting or Marksman not adjusting.
Best Regards,

2023.09.12 06:18 Think_of_the_meta The Best New Cards & Changes In 11.9

I wanted to showcase some of my favourite changes and new cards from the Heritage release. Appreciate everything the devs have done for the game. It was clearly made with passion, and its forever a shame that CDPR pulled funding.

Patches

Marlene de Trastamara - I’m super pumped for this change. Marlene has always been a worst Fortune Teller in every instance except for Syndicate Poison. This card will work really well in Northern Realms, when you play it and it will summon a Redanian Secret Service. It’s nice to have affordable resilience for a fair condition.
Frenzied D'ao - I wanted to mention this card because it seems to be the strongest amongst the Construct changes. While Rock Barrage is pretty lack luster on its own, when combined with the new Collosal Ifrit and the thinning of two cards it seems to have a really strong play for 15 points ideally.
Regis: Bloodlust - This one is interesting because it has the highest base power of any card with also potentially the biggest drawback. It’ll likely see play in Consume decks and Cursed decks (using a Cursed Knight to transform it to prevent its ability). Otherwise, you can lock it. But I also see the possibility of this card being used in decks with a strong round 1 like a lot of SK decks have, and pushing for a 2-0.Time will tell with Regis: Bloodlust but i’m excited to give it a go in Cursed decks.
Inspirational Ballad - Thematically, I love this card, because a ballad is supposed to reach a lot of ears and inspire more than a single unit. So it makes perfect sense flavour wise. This card obviously will go great in harmony decks. 18 points over 6 turns is already great, and if your Chameleon happens to infuse itself with the Vampire category, even better.
Oxenfort Scholar - This card could easily get between 4-6 boosts from deck building. So a 4 for 10 is pretty good. Not much else to say, I can’t particularly think where exactly it would fit into, but SK and NG come to mind with their strong high end golds. This card feels like a stronger version of the new Temerian Infantry
Mourntart - It feels soo good to have old Mourntart back. 10 provisions feels totally fair considering Monsters’ swarm abilities. Can’t wait to try it out.
Plague Maiden - Crazy to finally see monsters have poison. This change is pretty big. We also have Cockatrice as a bronze poison, however with tbr Predator condition, which makes it an ineffective tool as tall punish, but can still support Plague Maiden nicely. Also, the Alpha Werewolf changes makes me think that rat swarm is a thing now, which im here for.
Vilgefortz - One of the best QoL updates in the patch, one that makes me hungry for more. No longer having to worry about NG just removing your win condition because of luck feels so good.

New Cards

Vereena - This card is great. It makes your bleeding options more important and easier to consider. It’s going to be an auto include in Vampire decks. It can hard counter plenty of decks.
Lara Dorren - I’ve heard people aren’t too optimistic about this card because Wild Hunt doesn’t swarm that much, but even with only 6 cards on your side of the field its 24 points after resurrecting her. It’s also not too hard to fit one Arachas Nest for a easy 16 points, or even the new Plague Maiden. Super excited to see what she’ll be able to do.
Eudora Breckenriggs I don’t know how much people will favour her over the other Dwarfs. I appreciate that she’s a better Knickers, though. I am going to try her out in a midrange Dwarfs deck with plenty of control and the Zoltan package.
Princess Adda - Truly love this card. I love how she brings a forgotten archtype back into the game, even if they haven’t really done much for them this patch. Someone on Reddit said she would work if you tranformed Regis: Bloodlust into a Cursed Knight, put it back into your deck with Princess Pavetta and summoned it with Summoning Circle. I love this idea, and can’t wait to try it out.
Henry Var Attre - It’s nice to finally see some support for Abduction, a card i’ve wanted to make work since it was realised. Cards that like to play with the opponents deck will love Henry. If you are careful with your selections, you can use Warrit The All-Seeing and Joachim De Wett to play the card you put in their deck with Henry. Good design, love it. It’s the closest to old school Reveal we’ll ever have.
Otkell - This card is a lot of fun. a support for Self Wound and Alchemy? Don’t mind if I do. This card will obviously work very well with restore. I can see how it’s supposed to work with Huelyn, but i just dont see the value there. Another card that thins for two in this update is very nice, though. A bit more expensive than Frenzied D'ao, but looks strong nonetheless.

Final Thoughts

This wasn’t the patch we all wanted. Obviously the game isn’t being left in the state it deserves and it’s sad to see it sunset. I’ve been playing this game for 6 years, and have had the time of my life. I will continue to play and support this game while it’s still up and running - eventually they’ll probably close the served, and that’ll be the final nail in the coffin. Until then, let’s enjoy the game we have. We’re in an interesting position as players, who have a direct connection to the balance from here on out. I’ll be interested to see how that goes.

2023.09.10 18:25 watercolorfxg weird John King Books experience

This is not to rag on anyone's favorite book store! It's a lovely and unique place, but I also walked out of an interview there recently so this is just a story of a 20 something who's frustrated with the job market.
I went back to school (WCCCD) after a few years away and I'm looking for a job near campus that can pay my rent. I decided to apply to be a clerk at John King as it's well established and so beloved by anyone who walks in. I love books and spent years working in special collections for a different college library not to mention my retail experience, so I expected to at least be able to showcase why I'd be a good fit.
The clerk who gave me the application warned me it had a test attached and I'd need to make extra time. I didn't have anywhere to be so I stuck around. The packet in total took me close to an hour. After the general application questions were literature questions that honestly made me feel unenlightened. They asked about the regions Eudora Welty wrote about, Button Gwinnett's occupation, Bible verses. What Alfred Stieglitz did, even though his name was misspelled on the test. I don't like the Stones so I didn't recognize one of their lyrics, but I'm expecting less sympathy for that lol. Surely they were all famous names, but the majority were titles and authors I just hadn't encountered yet. I like Audré Lorde over Sir Walter Scott, what can I say?
The clerk got the manager after I was finished, but I didn't realize she was the manager at first because she came out without greeting me or looking me in the eye. The first thing she did was to glance at my application and say, "Oh, you're at WCCCD? We don't usually hire students because we have day shifts. What days are you available?"
At this point I was pretty irritated. Why wouldn't a bookstore hire students from next door? And she was clearly more interested in my application than talking to me, so I was smart and said I'm available for most of them, and that my availability was listed in my application.
The manager looked me in the eye for the first time and said, "Well, I'm asking you." At this point I politely asked for my bag from behind the counter and said I was leaving. The manager apologized for being tired (at 3pm). I said it's not her fault and she said, "I know!"
I was so relieved to walk out. Why am I expected to have a literature degree for a sales clerk position when places like Shakespeare and Company give a reading list during training? In my library position I handled volumes older than this country, and management couldn't even conduct an interview to get that far regarding my experience.
People definitely have shittier stories happen to them, but the moral here is to please know your worth and not to swallow garbage for minimum wage retail.

2023.09.05 03:12 RachelVictoria75 Apparition high school part 6=I already posted the rest here is the final part

Texting Bryan to see if my sneak into the high school idea will work, he has doubts and no keys “I am just a humble hall monitor not the school security guard.” Well, there is always talking to Jim and see if he knows a way in that we will not get caught in. Now at 7 am “heads Carolina tails California somewhere greener somewhere warmer.” I turn the alarm off and shuffle into the shower one week till prom and I still do not know what to do with this hair. Grandma Dee made toast, eggs, and sausage “alright sweetie I will see you at Mai’s after your dress fitting, got to go to the hospital it's my day to run the giftshop.” I kiss her goodbye and after dishes are washed, I head out to the driveway and wait for Mai and her mom or dad.
I was just standing there scrolling the phone when Jim came up to me “What are you doing here I thought you were stuck at the school” I always believed spirits could travel but never saw it myself. He was telling me “I know how to get in under the cafeteria there's a basement and its never locked, we want to move on help us young lady.” Then Mai and her dad pulled up and Jim was gone so when I got to school and lunch rolled around, I met Knight first and we went looking for the basement in the cafeteria. “I had no idea this was still here must be an original piece of the old school.” Knight was jazzed and we tested the door sure enough it was unlocked “Now to figure out how to get here at night and cross people over.” He looks like he has an idea, so we meet up with Mai but no Bryan “I just saw him” Mai tells us “He’s eating with Kayla they are discussing Prom stuff.” I take the three of them to the table where they are at “Hey you two this will be quick Sean is picking us up at Gracie’s he said all of us will fit in his ride.” Bryan tells us that’s great and gives us the head shrug so the three of us go to our grass area. “I have away we can get here, listen to this.” Knight proceeds with his plan and Mai is in too. Knight says lover boy over there will be here too, so Friday is a date.
Mai texted and said both her parents will be at church, but she wants to hang out at my house, so I said sure. Sean facetimed and we chatted for some time. “How are a total of 6 people going to fit in your ride I thought you said you had an old Chevy.” He tells me it’s a big surprise and not to worry about it. I told him “My dress is all ready and all you get is the color so peach” he likes that and say, “now I can match you with my tie.” We chat more than head to bed. “Heads Carolina tails California” I shut that off and dragged my butt to the kitchen Grandma Dee made biscuit, sausage egg, and cheese sandwiches. Filled up on this Thursday, I head into school and see every ghost gathered by the display shelf. “How can you see us no one has before” Jimmy asks. I tell them as I sit on the bench by the wall. I took out my social studies book and turned to a random page making it look like I was reading. In my mind I tell them.
“It started when I was 5, I remember my dad talking to people who my mom always said weren’t there. I told daddy I saw the lady it turned out to be my Grandma I never knew. He told me it’s a gift to see the dead, sometimes they need your help to move on, and sometimes they want to stay. When Mom found out I could do it too she was devastated. She hates my gift, but I love it. This would be my first crossing though, so I hope everyone wants to go.”
Mai was dropped off after 4 and I let her in on Knight’s plan. “We are going bike riding you can ride mine and I will ride Mom’s.” At 6:30 we headed toward school and hoping against hope that Knights plan to prop the gate and basement door open. Once we get to the back gate, we see Knight and Bryan along with Kayla. “Our Scooby Gang has expanded.” Then Kayla tells us she is the lookout but good luck. The four of us head to the basement and yes, it’s open just like Knight said. Walking inside my dad has shown himself just like I asked last night in my dreams. I dream of him often and we talk about everything. “We need to stay down here up there is the cameras, so I hope they don’t mind the basement area” Knight states. Flashlights in hand we all walked near where the theater was ‘I can see chard wood “then out they all come. “Knew you could come through thank you.” I stare at that man and shout “You were the one who set that charge and were so mean to the Chinese men…: then my dad says to me. “BeaBea, they have been forgiven, time for everyone to move on.” I tell everyone to hit flashlights at the back wall “Okay dad tell me what to say.” I start chanting “Peace be with you its time to find the light, everyone is welcome, and all is well.” I see everyone going there. Light is shown all over the basement and Jimmy says farewell and Jim even comes to me “If I could hug you, I would glad the fire issue was resolved.” Just like that the light was out and the basement area was much lighter. Meanwhile….” What in the blue hill is that” Brody says as he drives past Ben Franklin after dropping off his date. “Better be a good citizen and go check the light show out.” Sure enough, when he heads to the gate, he sees a pair of bikes and four kids coming from the basement area. “Alright explain yourselves and what the light show was. “” Hold that thought and be quiet.” I looked at my phone and said “Hi other cousin, yes, I am I saw some lights coming from the back and decided to be a good citizen and check it out. No, I don’t see Miss Cleo, Goth Kid, Velma, or blonde boy. “I hang up and all kids at once, we owe you one.
The next day we all met up at Gracie’s for a pre-prom dinner. Sean said he was going to eat with his family and it’s a rare occasion because his dad had the night off. After ice cream Mai grabbed her mom and dad and told everyone what we wanted to do at the cemetery. After some Mandarin arguments they do give in. With everyone in place I tell Mai the exact phrase from the other night. As the phrase is being translated the same man comes up to me and says “Shay Shay” I say that back and he smiles and heads toward the light. I turn around and tell the graveyard “The light is open anyone who wants to go can.” Looking over in the corner I see the man from the first day “You don’t want to go he looks at me and says, “No I don’t have no kin, I’ll stay here and make sure no one forgets about us again.”. Then Mai says that her parents were done, and we need to get home and get some sleep prom tomorrow.
Prom- “Wow Mai you should consider a career in beauty you got my hair to do something.” I have three braids and the curls loose below. Mai is gorgeous in her red dress with a halter top. Her new glasses are sleek yet go with her face. Everyone gets in the cars, and we head to Gracie’s. “We are all here let’s do pictures” Jackie says. I tell her Sean is on his way with our ride when we see a truck pull in. A few minutes later Sean is riding in the from seat of a horse and carriage with an Amish man. “Hi, Sean, I didn’t know you were Amish.” I tell him as we all smile at the nice man. “It’s a black horse I am so geeking out,” says Knight. Sean tells us “This is Franklin our neighbor he is the Amish man, and he says we can use the horse and buggy to go to prom, we will all fit.” Frankling hops down because he does not want to be in any pictures, but the parents snap away. We give Franklin directions and head off down the road to our school and prom. Everyone and their parents agreed to meet back at Gracie’s after prom.
The six of us were the talk of the prom arriving in a horse drawn carriage. Sean and I danced to some country hits, but he did not want to do the achy breaky heart so Kayla, Mai and I did that. I looked around the gym and did not find one ghost, so I told everyone the spell worked, then Sean dropped the bomb, he has a gift too that he has been trying to ignore. We went and got some lemonade and cookies, and I told him how I turn it off when I need to. “I tell them when I get home, you are not allowed to bother me at this dwelling, I am home and wish to be in peace.” I was thinking this was the reason Brody set us up and he’s going to hear it. I get asked to dance by Danny, one of the boys who always calls me weird, I am polite, and we dance anyway. “I never really think you are wired Bea, but the guys start that, and I went along I am sorry.” I tell him its fine then I hear Dad in my ear “BeaBea get outside” I tell Danny I am getting warm, so I step outside, Sean was out there anyway, and we both look east toward Walnut Grove. “I think that is one big plume of smoke could be the highway wonder if there was an accident.” Sean searches his phone and sees an accident on the 215 near Eudora. “Yeah, tanker truck got hit by an electric SUV and the truck jackknifed and cause the big plume, it says Walnut grove came to help but three volunteers were hurt and two have passed.”
We both look up and gasp at once “Brody oh no not you.” Just then Mom and Grandma Dee pulled up. “Sweetheart we just got the news “I interrupt Mom and tell her everything Brody is saying.” Ey Miss Cleo and Mr. Cleo now don’t be too sad for me I lived a great life for a kid born with bad legs, I did die doing what I love. I’m going to see Mom and Dad now I love you all, and you and Sean have a great future together. Goodbye now” I tell Sean “That is the light see it” he tells me yes and Brody is gone. Then I felt Mai, Knight, and Bryan around me I got everyone in tears. Now that there is smoke in the air Prom is ending and everyone is heading to Gracie’s for pickups.
Later that week there was a service for the fallen firefighters, other cities showed up such as Willard, Springfield, Brody’s hometown of Ash Grove, Bolivar, Morrisville, and Eudora. Sean and I are keeping it friendly till one of us learns to drive. Sean is sure he wants to be a firefighter and keep Brody’s memory alive. Other kids at school heard me cross over my own cousin so now they don’t call me weird anymore. I still see the one guy at the cemetery when I go to Gracie’s, but he is just watching over the place. Sean and I have something in common because right after school ended Franklin passed away but needed Sean’s help with something before, he moved on. I helped with that and now he is at peace, having these abilities used to be a burden now it’s a blessing.

Here is how that last paragraph was supposed to look. I went back and fixed my mistakes.

End of part 5
