2024.05.14 22:54 indomie23 How to navigate a relationship with partners who are in different ages and stages of life? (22F & 30M)

TIA for reading this and your advice. I (30M) have been in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend (22F) for almost two years. We visit each other at least once a month and have been on many trips together.
We are in different stages of life, where I have my career as a Nurse Practitioner, have grown roots in my city/community, live on my own, investing my money, looking towards marriage/kids within the next five years, etc, whereas she is now restarting her college career (she had tried working first), wanting to go into nursing, still lives with her parents, she just got her drivers license last year, etc.
Her family dynamics and realization for her need for independency has made her finally want to move out, and she plans to move to and begin college in the state I live in. We share the same ethnicity and religion. She is very supportive of me, caring, giving, patient, loves others, me and her family, and I admire her so much for that.
However, I am getting bogged down from supporting her through her family/independency issues, career pursuits, her driving journey, etc, and now facing the concern of what to do. I guess I wished I had someone who had all those check marked, but I stuck by her, as she has stuck by me through my personal issues. Maybe it is right person, wrong time, idk.
She is about to move here in 1-2 months. I know that nursing school is gonna be another challenge. I need advice on how to navigate through this, and what questions I need to ask to give me a better idea of what to do during this transition.

2024.05.14 22:53 ChessieChesapeake Glasses for computer use

OK folks, I am somewhat new to glasses and could use some help. For the past two years I have had a pair of readers with the following prescription:
OD: Sphere = +1.50, Cylinder = -0.75, Axis = 105 OS: Sphere = +1.50, Cylinder = -0.50, Axis = 088
These readers have worked very well for both reading and computer use and I really haven't had any complaints, but they have been banged up pretty good, so it was time to update my prescription and get a new pair. I also have pretty good distance vision, but was getting tired of constantly taking my glasses on and off when I'm out and about, so I wanted to move to a pair I can use full time.
So I recently got my eyes checked and updated prescriptions for readers and full time wear.
For the readers: OD: Sphere = +2.75, Cylinder = -1.25, Axis = 105 OS: Sphere = +2.50, Cylinder = -0.75, Axis = 085
For full time wear: OD: Sphere = +0.75, Cylinder = -1.25, Axis = 105, Near Add = +2.00 OS: Sphere = +0.50, Cylinder = -0.75, Axis = 085, Near Add = +2.00
I ordered a pair of glasses with progressive lenses and have been wearing them for about two weeks. I don't have any complaints and they are great for when I am out and about, as I can read things close up and have a little more clarity for distance. My problem is computer use, as I sit in front of the computer for about 8-12 hours a day and the progressives are not that great for sitting at my desk and looking at multiple displays, so I have reverted to using my old glasses when at my desk.
Here is what I am trying to figure out. I ordered a new pair of glasses online, using the new prescription for readers, and just got them today. When I am reading a book, or 20 inches or closer to my computer displays, they are great, but when I sit my standard distance of around 30-35 inches from the displays, they are too blurry. I do not have this issue with my old pair and 30 inches of distance seems to be the sweet spot.
So my question is, what adjustments would I need to make to my new prescription for them to work well for computer use? Is it the Sphere settings I need to adjust to get a little more distance out of them?

2024.05.14 22:53 EmDee_055 Black screen or system reinstall

Hello so I got my lenovo legion slim 5 16aph8 (with win 11) today and had a lot of problems with it. First thing I did was updating bios and system on lenovo's site. Everything went smooth expcept after the update my laptop was having a blue screen every 5/10 mins. After an hour trying to do sth windows restore option popped up (The blue screen where laptop tried repairing itself but failed and proposed a system reinstall). So I tried it but it seemed like it stopped and didnt reinstall fully. I clicked reinstall option from windows 11 settings it went good at first, but now although the computer is working the screen is constantly black. The diode on power button just slowly blinks in blue. It can hear it is still working but idk if the system reinstalls itself or what is happening. What should I do?

2024.05.14 22:52 D1yzz Suggestion on what should improve on my PC

Hello, my actual build is the following:
What should i invest? More RAM? DDR4? Or a better graphic card?
What i do is the normal day to day surf on the web with some ocasional gaming (at the moment TFT and some Dota2 but in the future i might try the new Marvel games with my friends)
I have moeny to spend in a high end build but i am good with a budge mid build.
I dont want to do a complete overall of my setup, for me i would upgrade the current RAM that i have, eventually buy a better GPU but it had to be compatible with my motherboard since i dont want to spend any money in a new one.

2024.05.14 22:52 jjmy12 Account Takeover Fraud

A friend’s company recently sent a deposit for work to one of their vendors. The invoice was sent via email, and the first email in the thread had an attachment that contained the ACH details. A few days go by, and it’s time to make the payment. Coincidentally (?) my friend’s company received “updated payment information” via email from the same person who had previously sent the ACH details.
As you can probably tell from context, those “updated payment details” were incorrect/fraudulent. The two documents were nearly identical - on that company’s letterhead, and it literally came from the company: the email SPF and DKIM (email spoofing prevention tech) records passed: the email definitely came from that vendor.
The vendor is trusted, as is their representative. I will leave space for that to be false, but from an IT perspective, this must br an Account Takeover attack: the vendor’s representative had their email account compromised, and the bad actor logged in to the legitimate account and sent a followup email that my friend’s team trusted and accepted.
They called their bank but they explained that because it’s been a week since the payment was sent they have no way to pull the money back: the company is out a significant (SIGNIFICANT) amount of money.
The preventative measures are clear: be suspicious of and confirm all payment details changes, double controls on payments sent to new recipient accounts, encourage everyone you know to use MFA, unique passwords for every site, rotate passwords frequently, be vigilant, etc…but!
Does then vendor have any legal responsibility/liability for something like this? It was the vendor who had the initial security failure, but the customer also didn’t validate the new details. Is there any recourse for this?
I’ve encouraged my friend to file a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center - but I doubt anything helpful will come of that.
Thanks in advance for any advice or prior experience you can share.

2024.05.14 22:52 Akumu7261 Messaging girls I knew in high school

I am low-key running out of ideas of how to date, or rather find people who would at least give it a chance. Dating apps seem busted for average or even any level above average guys, cold approaching never worked for me yet (I ask only the ones that actually do spark my interest and the situation allows for it).
So I thought to message a girl I knew in high school, essentially it's around 10 years later, which might be weird I suppose, but I didn't have much chances with girls back then. I moved to the UK from an European country in 2013 (14 yo at the time) and I didn't know the language at all pretty much (just basic words). Due to this and other reasons I definitely missed out on dating back then, after high school I just focused on further education etc. I am 24 now, had some experiences, broke up with my last gf in November 2023 and I am ready to date again, so as alternative to all common approaches of dating, I wanted to text a girl which I remember was nice to me in high school (even if just friendly, she seems like a cool person even into adulthood, from what I can tell on social media).
Would it be really weird that I haven't talked to hear for basically 8-10 years and now I suddenly want to connect? Is that even worth a try? Also if you guys have advice relating to finding long-term partners, I am all ears as it is difficult out there.

2024.05.14 22:50 1759 OpenWebUI, RAG, and "local" documents.

I have OpenWebUI with a few different LLMs running on a host PC.
This PC is on a network. I can connect to this host PC from another computer on the same local network via browser at http://PC-name:3000 This works fine.
I can also just open a web browser on the LLM PC itself and use OpenWebUI at the same URL (or just localhost) Nothing wrong there.
Here's the issue:
When using the browser interface on the LLM PC itself, when I import documents in OpenWebUI and then ask the LLM about the document(s), it works just fine.
However, when I go to another PC on the same network, open a browser, point the browser at http://PC-name:3000, it connects to OpenWebUI that is running on the remote PC just fine, and normal queries work, but when I ask it about these same RAG documents, it looks like it is trying to answer, but no anser ever comes up. I've left it for hours and no answer ever appears. Again this is only an issue when asking about RAG documents. Non-RAG queries to the LLMs work fine from remote PCs.
If I go to the Document Settings in OpenWebUI, the RAG documents are listed, just like they are on the PC that is running OpenWebUI. All the ingested documents are there. But only queries using # ever work from the local PC running OpenWebUI, and never from any "remote" PCs.
I even tried ingesting a document from the remote PC (instead of ingesting it on the local PC running OpenWebUI), but it made no difference.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

2024.05.14 22:50 Aja_HegB Not construction but I’m skewed between trades electrical and plumbing.

So, I’m about to graduate high school and I have an interest in electrical, plumbing, and also mechanical work. Now mechanical work leaves the most strain on the body in the long run and base pay to future pay isn’t a good outlook so I left that to the side. But between a plumber and electrician I don’t know. Pay is a BIG thing to me and I live in York Pennsylvania and there is no data that comes up between both so I don’t know what to do. Any feedback or any opinions or anything would be of much help on my decision. (I do plan on going to trade school for this)

2024.05.14 22:50 vangenta What jobs are currently or will be in demand in the next 2-3 years?

I'm a web developer and I haven't been able to find work in quite a while after my previous company went through several rounds of post-covid downsizing. I've been able to get some small contracts here and there, but nothing consistent/long-term.
It's made me pretty discouraged and I'm now thinking of going back to college and switching to another field. I came across medical sonography, which according to the Ontario job market trends, it pays well and has decent demand. But it also says software development has good demand, but from my experience of applying to jobs so far, that has not been the case. So I'm not sure how much to trust those trends.
I also saw some 1 year small business programs that I thought might be good if I want to stick with web development and maybe start my own agency...
Anyways, just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on where the job market is going and if it's worth going back to school and looking at other fields of study.

2024.05.14 22:50 FitNinja24 Minor league affiliates

How many of us Rays fans on here follow the Rays minor league affiliates like they do the Tampa Bay Rays themselves?
I often find myself checking all the prospect’s stats and even watching some of the Durham Bulls, Montgomery Biscuits, and the lower A level teams. If the spring training site was close enough I’d probably check out a Florida Complex League Game. I still miss the Stone Crabs and hope they can get a Florida State League team back.
I figure an organization like the Rays that fills the team with guys who they draft/trade or develop through the minors keeping an eye on the minor league affiliates isn’t a complete waste of time.

2024.05.14 22:49 gunchasg Despite all the bad things

As title says…Despite all the bad things and negativity lately happening to this game I actually want to say something positive and I’m curious to know what keeps you playing this game?
As a “regular everyday normal mtfckaa” in late 20’s I’m actually valuing my free time and I’m picky about stuff that grant me happiness and joy. And as a major hobby of mine is gaming i’m super picky of games I play because I cant play them all you know…
So.. what I wanted to say with that is that I want my gaming sessions to be rewarding , progressive and not wasted… something like valuable investment. I was a mmorpg guy so I can see this mindset starting from there. I like that my invested time playing has somesort of progress going on and thats gives me joy. I can’t get this feeling from singleplayer games anymore because you finish them and thats it, end of the story. I can’t get this feeling from competitive games (although I was addicted to cs since 1.6 times and skipped school) because I don’t have enough time to stay “competitive” and keep my skills sharp. So basically I dont get the joy and thus it is time wasted for me. ( I know, its addiction )
So I started looking in other directions, and there it was.. simulation games. Started with racing (got cockpit and everything) naah, not for me altough it’s my second hobby related to gaming) . Then i dibbled into aircraft, flying simulators - totaly wasnt my thing…
And then, the majesty, the goddess of them all, Mil-Sim’s. Tried them all but Dayz was the one I stucked into. All I needed was more guns… And then EFT came, the savior, the pastor, the holy spirit himself. It had everything I wanted in a game. Ok just to make it short - I valued every minute of playing tarkov, enjoyed every raid even if I died, because I had joy playing.. and the irl gun simulation is just a cherry on top. Time playing tarkov for me is never wasted even if I die and loseeverything. Even cheaters cant take this away from me. Because I’m actually happy playing the game not justhappy to get rewards from my monotonous grinding. It wasnt like the usual grind - do this and you get that. Every minute could spawn situations either happy ones or sad ones (getting head eyes). Every goddamn thing I did ingame was rewarded - was it a lucky flank and nice free kit or horrendous firefight with me resulting dead. And about progression which I value the most - this time its experience that I get playing the game i like and I’m actually satisfied I have to go out of my way to find information about everything in game.
So yeah, despite all the things I’m looking after in games, Tarkov gets me despite going against all my requirements.
TL;DR
Tarkov is joyful every minute you play the game not like other games -grindfest / do that and get this. Now keep doing it till the final boss. It’s not about rewards, it’s about playing process.
Whats keeping you in Tarkov?

  1. I want to communicate with people. When i am in school i am talking to a bunch of people that i only get to see for an hour. I want to talk to these people but i cant. I want to have closer connections with then.
  2. I am lonley. I share a room with my sister who is 17 and still cant have social media. I have whatsapp but no one i talk to uses that. People always ask for my snqp and it’s embarrassing saying i dont have it. Im not aloud with my friends either.
I had tiktok at 10 but my parents changed their mind. I have only a few apps and i need my parents password to download simple games. I feel like my life is on repeat. Qll i can do is draw, watch tv or do makeup (or play the boring games on my phone) i like doing thse things but i do it everyday and im bored.

2024.05.14 22:49 FriendRaid [NA] [A/H] [Stormrage] - LF Players of all skill levels

What we're about

Friend Raid is a relaxed, inclusive guild that prioritizes fun and helping each other improve. Our main rule is don't be a dick and keep getting better. We are super LGBT+ friendly, welcome everybody, and strive to keep the environment safe and comfortable for everyone.
Our Mythic raid team consistently clears half of the raid each tier, our AoTC team achives AoTC every tier, and our Mythic+ players push high keys and participate in MDI/TGP. We also have things like Achievement/Transmog runs, we play other games in large and small groups, and usually have people hanging out in Discord every night.

Season 4 plans

We are taking season 4 pretty chill with raiding. We are running weekly Heroic raids in WoW Remix and Retail. Our M+ community is still running keys on retail as well for the season. We are recruiting with the plans to hit the ground running in The War Within.
Raid Nights - Tues/Thurs 8pm-11pm EST. We are running content together as a guild for Season 4. Normal raid times for our teams listed below.

Recruiting Needs

We are currently looking for players interested in raiding with one of our teams (Mythic/Heroic) for War Within, all M+ focused players looking for a community, and casual players looking for a place to chill.
Just Burn Boss (Mythic Focused) - JBB is looking for all roles, several of our raiders at the end of this tier got very good IRL news (job changes, life changes, things like that) and we're rebuilding for War Within. The goal will be to push to the "wall" boss and try and get it down tier 1.
Normally raids Tues/Wed 8pm-11pm EST.
Barely Contained Chaos (AoTC Focused) - Healers and DPS are needed, otherwise anyone interested in AOTC raiding who feels they'll vibe well with the guild are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Normally raids Thurs/Fri 7:30pm-10:30pm EST.
Mythic+ Players - We are always looking for more Mythic+ runners. We have a strict "no key begging" policy and high skill players looking for more fun folks to play with.
Casual Players - We are working on improving our casual community. If you are a mount collector, someone who just wants to run easy content, or are learning and want to get better to step into high level content, we would love you to apply. We are very active in WoW remix so this is the perfect time to join to get that sweet sweet bronze.

2024.05.14 22:47 indomie23 How to navigate a relationship with partners who are in different ages and stages of life?

2024.05.14 22:47 SirSweetie 46 [M4F] #LosAngeles #SFV - Chill solo-poly guy looking for fun dates & new adventures

I live in Lake Balboa (Encino/Van Nuys/Reseda area) and love going to restaurants, museums, vintage shops, and flea markets. I'm 46, 5'10", 180 lbs - a total dad-bod. Glasses, bearded, balding. Full time employed, professional, sane, own a home and walk around the lake on nice summer days. I can fold a fitted sheet, keep a plant or two alive more than a month, and cook a delicious meal without burning the place down. I'm solo-poly/ENM, partnered but looking for someone fun and chill to do some exploring around LA without the expectations of a traditional relationship/riding the escalator.
My work had kept me busy in my younger years, now I have more freedom and realize I live in this awesome city and have barely seen any of it. Are you an expert tour guide who I can go with to all the great sights around this town?
Do you know where the best burger and dive bar are in a 5-mile radius of any random point in LA County? If so, please, write me. Right now.
I'm open to a wide spectrum of possible relationship parameters. I've found in the past, I work best with someone who already has a primary, or at least is not expecting me to fill the role of their primary. And I'm not expecting you to be my primary either. Beyond that, let's talk and see where life takes us. Open to all ages and dynamics.
Introverted (most likely ISTJ if that's anything to you), into board games, video games, pinball, sci-fi movies, and bad TV shows (I'll binge Australian Survivor and The Traitors endlessly). I'm also into photography (architectural, street, and landscapes, mainly). My last best vacation was to Hawaii, and looking to travel more, of course. Very laid-back and easy going. One of the best ways to shape your teens' behavior in a positive way is through the use of a GPS tracking device. GPS vehicle trackers offer a simple way for you to know if a teen tells the truth about their driving behaviors and where they are going. And although a GPS tracking system on your child’s vehicle can't stop them from sneaking out at night, you will have the ability to know when they did sneak out and where they went!

2. Communicate With Your Teen

If you’re a concerned parent who has already caught their child sneaking out of the house at night, one of the first emotions felt is likely anger and distrust. This is why it is critical that you try to remain calm. Start by framing the conversation so that you convey to your teenager that you understand the need for expanded freedoms. Talk with them honestly about healthy and positive ways they can exhibit they’re ready to have additional freedoms. If things are progressing in the right direction after this, consider coming up with a fair plan to extend curfew as your teen gets older and shows with consistency they can be responsible.

3. Install Motion Sensor Lights

If you caught your teen sneaking out and want to prevent them from doing it again consider installing alarms on your doors and potentially windows. Motion sensor lights with cameras can illuminate and record the perimeter of your home, making it easy to document when a teen tries to sneak out. In fact, this type of security is commonplace in boarding schools for troubled teens as well as treatment centers for teenage boys and girls. However, most modern teens are very tech-savvy and likely have the technical knowledge and know-how to turn these security devices off. Therefore, motion sensor lights, Ring alarm systems, and other video surveillance are probably best suited for younger children who wander.

4. Hide The Car Keys At Night

Sometimes the simplest answer is the easiest answer and that is why parents who want to stop teens from sneaking out should hide the family car keys at night. Be proactive by hiding the spare set of keys and make sure to never leave any keys hanging on a hook so that anyone in the house can find them. Teenagers who have their own car keys should turn in their vehicle keys to you every night.

5. Location Tracking Mobile Apps

If your teens refuse to have a GPS tracking device in their car and simply aren't being cooperative, one way to move forward is with tracking apps for iPhone or Android devices. Location apps will allow parents to know where their teen is located 24/7, giving parents an additional sense of personal security. Although GPS apps are great they do have one significant problem, and that is many teens are smart enough to remove the apps or turn their mobile phones off to stop parents from tracking them.
