2024.04.29 08:36 Tiny-Ask-240 I feel like a terrible person

So I have been talking to this person lately, I'll use the letter, A, to reference them. And well basically I feel bad because I feel like Im slowly losing interest in A, and it's not like that A is a bad person, tbh it's mostly me and I'm starting to think this is a problem and I don't know why or how to stop it. I'm mostly upset because of how nice they are but also because I've shown a picture (although my fave was covered) of myself and have accidentally slipped family members names that I usually like to keep private until I can trust them and I'm afraid that if I say something A may doxx me or something which I know A probably won't do that but I'm still scared of such a thing happening, I feel like I've been taking advantage of As feelings for em and I feel really really REALLY bad about all of this and I honestly don't know what to do and I'm just trying so hard not to seem any different despite everything.

2024.04.29 08:27 Beneficial_Shock_409 I did some research to find out if the Bible supports slavery; it does

Reader's Note: Feel free to read this in any order that suits you. Start from the introduction, the conclusion, or jump to any section you're interested in. Also, if you are going make a counter argument, please read the entire document as I may have already addressed or talked about your argument. Also, I may address a counter argument before or after you read the "Counterarguments" section. When I was writing this I was just sort of taking notes as I went and not organizing anything since I didn't think about sharing it with anyone. I only somewhat organized this and did so pretty quickly so don't expect this to be super well organized. I could have elaborated more, used different analogies, etc.

Intro

The Bible contains many references to slavery, which was a common practice in antiquity. Biblical texts outline sources and the legal status of slaves, economic roles of slavery, types of slavery, and debt slavery, which thoroughly explain the institution of slavery in Israel in antiquity.

Examples of Bible verses talking about slavery

I will use these 6 verses repeatedly in multiple examples:

Questions:

Bible verses which seemingly condemn slavery

While the Bible doesn't outright say slavery was bad, some may think it implies it because of verses like:

Counterarguments

What is happening here is a law exists that requires that if people fight and one is caused to be injured, that the offender pays for the time the other can't work. V20 is an exception since the slaves work is already for the benefit of the owner. The time lost is already at the cost of the owner. So no payment needs to be made.
Also, other laws are still in affect. As we can see in v20 if the slave dies he is to be avenged.
Also, if the slave is injured in a permanent way such as losing a tooth, he is likely to go free as we can see just a few verses later
"When a man strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys it, he shall let the slave go free because of his eye. If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he shall let the slave go free because of his tooth. Exodus 21:26-27
So this verse is in no way permission to beat a slave as it is often claimed."
My Counter Argument: This context does NOT disprove that Exodus 21:20-21 allows for the beating of a slave but just talks about how the laws sought to regulate behavior including how slaves should be treated by creating certain restrictions and penalties. Regardless of the extra context, when we combine Exodus 21:20-21 in light of the surrounding verses, it's clear that while yes, there was a legal framework that acknowledged the value of a slave's life (by requiring the avenging of a slave's death) it also shows a clear societal hierarchy where slaves were regarded as property. "If the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money" obviously this implies a degree of leniency towards the owner's actions, again reflecting that slave-owner relationship. These laws attempt to balance the interests of slave owners with certain protections for slaves, albeit its still within a system that inherently lacked equality. The context only sets forth the conditions under which physical discipline could occur, alongside the penalties or lack thereof, depending on the outcome of such actions. This argument attempts to frame the passage as merely a legal technicality where it doesn't support slaves being beat. However the fact still remains that a slave owner could beat their slave with enough severity to necessitate days of recovery without significant consequence. Again, when you never condemn something even if it obviously goes against all your morals, it says a lot. You have permission to beat your slave, just to an extend (Near death) Also, once again, lets not forget that this verse is part of the Mosaic Law, given by God himself to Moses to relay to the Israelites regarding the treatment of slaves.

Conclusion

The Bible not only never condemns slavery, but also supports it.
When you consider the prevalence of slavery in biblical times and its direct contradiction with the core moral teachings of the Bible you would expect it to be littered with passages unequivocally condemning such a widely recognized evil practice. But instead, apart from never denouncing slavery, the Bible provides detailed instructions on managing and participating in it.
When juxtaposed with the Bible's explicit commandments against other immoral acts, this silence on slavery is very telling.
(I like murder analogy a lot) If the Bible never condemned murder but, instead, provided guidelines for permissible types of killing, we'd rightly conclude it condones violence. The same logic applies to slavery.

2024.04.29 08:23 Hostile_Insurgent_47 Some serious introspection is required with respect to our relations with Pakistan, both diplomatic and people-to-people.

So as we saw the news of a Pakistani girl Ayesha getting a successful heart transplant in Chennai for free of cost, many were happy and congratulated her for a new life. But when all this was happening, 2 Indian Army soldiers were injured while fighting a pair of pakistani terrorists from PoK in Sopore. The very next day after the 2 terrorists were killed in Sopore, another attempted ambush happened in Udhampur, Jammu where sadly a VDG personnel Mohammed Sharif got martyred fighting for our country, and the operation is still going on. If that wasn't enough, the same day saw spotting of a pakistani quadcopter along the LoC and arrest of a dozen Pakistani drug smugglers along the Gujarat-Sindh border. Now I don't have anything against the girl, she was suffering and I am happy she got relieved due to the transplant. But why are we supposed to take care of Pakistani patients just because their own country never focussed on developing itself? Pakistanis literally come here for even basic cochlear implants. Why should Indian Navy rescue hijacked Pakistani sailors from Somali pirates when their own Navy despite eating a huge chunk of their resources is still not competent enough and their government will never thank us for it? Why should we open trade with them when they close it at any time they want as per their terms and beg to restart it when shit hits the fan economically?
We gave them money under Indus Water Treaty (worth around almost $10 billion in today's money!) providing them most of their water and you still adhere to it. We gave them most favoured nation status for trade for which they never reciprocated. Our prime ministers went there for talks and we got backstabbed every time be it during Kargil or Pathankot airbase attack. They genocided the Hindu minority in East Pakistan under operation searchlight, we intervened, defeated and humiliated them, and then gave up all the territories and 93000 PoWs we held due to "Aman ki Asha" when we could've used that to arm twist them on our terms. They initiated every single war with us with the aim of snatching Kashmir and teach the "Baniya" a lesson and lost all of them and still yearn for more conflicts but are unable to due to the current shear difference in military, diplomatic and economic might of India over pakistan.
People have romanticised this Aman ki Asha nonsense for a long time when this has always been one sided. They consider you an enemy that needs to be annihilated at any cost due to mazhabi brainwashing since childhood while we think they're just the muslim version of us, normal folks. No they are not. Their textbooks preach hatred against non-muslims, their movies justify hatred and violence against the Hindus by disrespecting the Hindu and Sikh (even glorifying suicide bombing in movies and live television).
Your average Pakistani is not your typical DHA-dwelling westernised Shoaib or Fatima who wears t-shirts and shorts, watches movies, dances, drinks and is pretty chill. The average pakistani lives outside those privileged townships listening to jihadi nasheeds by Mauvia bin azam and watching too much of Maulana Tariq Jameel, Khadim Rizvi
and other such mullahs spewing BS against kafirs, fantasising destruction of Somnath Mandir once again. And which in turn also affects Indian Muslims, afterall whatever is said by them in pakistan won't stay there. Pretty much why all blasphemy killings done by muslims in India are done due to Tehreek-e-Labbaik propaganda they consumed both online and offline. Here is a sample, just a typical jihadi nasheed where they are asking Pakistanis to pick up AK-47s, Daggers and Spears and strike through the Hindu wolf and in the end calls for Jihad against Jews in Palestine and Hindus in Kashmir. His nasheeds are used by all pakistani terror groups in their propaganda videos and millions of muslims consume it regularly on both sides of border. So my question is, how do you even define a pakistani terrorist? Someone who is brainwashed to kill all kafirs and carries a gun? Well, then most pakistanis will fall into that category since almost all households there have a gun. It is just that only a few have the balls to cross the Line of Control or the Radcliffe Line to fight us.
Their society IS extremist thats why for them Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar, Syed Salahuddin etc are heroes while gentlemen like Abdus Sattar Ehdi are infidels. Pretty much why their top actors love them too! And that is why, there should be no relations with them at all. They treat you as a target practice and proudly proclaim their terror deeds in parliament, on TV, in rallies and collect funds for jihad openly at their most important mosque. Thousands of them infiltrated in Kashmir and burned our valley for decades by radicalising our youth and they still do it even today.
It isn't our responsibility to take care of their people especially since they hate us to the core. It isn't our problem that their country focussed more on terrorism and buying military hardware (pakistani military is more than half the size of India for an economy almost 12 times less) instead of healthcare and education. Our Soldiers, Paramilitary personnel and Policemen of J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat are the shield defending us from them and our sympathies should be only towards them instead of people from there coming here to get their work done for free. They have genocidal hatred towards non-muslims and at the same time they use this aman ki asha trope to exploit the gullible Indians to the last drop.
TLDR: All these "politicians spread hate between both of us else we're one people" guys should honestly get lost from here. And all the efforts to help pakistanis to earn vishwaguru brownie points must be stopped.

2024.04.29 08:20 NotReallyEragon [Online][Other][Friday 8PM PST, Any time] Beginner games of Blood on the Clocktower

Hello! I am a beginner storyteller for a tabletop game called Blood on the Clocktower and I am looking for people who may be interested in trying it! If you don't know what it is, it is a social deduction game that plays similarly to Town of Salem or Mafia, but it has a "Storyteller" which is essentially a dungeon master! It has a lot of fun roles and interactions that wouldn't work without a storyteller, and I am excited to try the game, feel free to DM me if you are interested! We will be playing on the official app which is pretty good at simulating how the game would be played over a table and I will help teach new players!

2024.04.29 08:19 Internet--Traveller A long forgotten TIME magazine interview from the 90s regarding aliens and why they are here

I recently discovered this interview from the TIME magazine's archive - it's from 1999. It's hard to believe they actually published this in TIME magazine.
It's an interview with the leader of Falun Gong, a Qigong cult from China:
https://content.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2053761,00.html
Excerpts:
TIME: Why does chaos reign now?
Li: Of course there is not just one reason. The biggest cause of society's change today is that people no longer believe in orthodox religion. They go to church, but they no longer believe in God. They feel free to do anything. The second reason is that since the beginning of this century, aliens have begun to invade the human mind and its ideology and culture.
TIME: Where do they come from?
Li: The aliens come from other planets. The names that I use for these planets are different . Some are from dimensions that human beings have not yet discovered. The key is how they have corrupted mankind. Everyone knows that from the beginning until now, there has never been a development of culture like today. Although it has been several thousand years, it has never been like now.
The aliens have introduced modern machinery like computers and airplanes. They started by teaching mankind about modern science, so people believe more and more science, and spiritually, they are controlled. Everyone thinks that scientists invent on their own when in fact their inspiration is manipulated by the aliens. In terms of culture and spirit, they already control man. Mankind cannot live without science.
The ultimate purpose is to replace humans. If cloning human beings succeeds, the aliens can officially replace humans. Why does a corpse lie dead, even though it is the same as a living body? The difference is the soul, which is the life of the body. If people reproduce a human person, the gods in heaven will not give its body a human soul. The aliens will take that opportunity to replace the human soul and by doing so they will enter earth and become earthlings.
When such people grow up, they will help replace humans with aliens. They will produce more and more clones. There will no longer be humans reproduced by humans. They will act like humans, but they will introduce legislation to stop human reproduction.
TIME: Are you a human being?
Li: You can think of me as a human being.
TIME: Are you from earth?
Li: I don't wish to talk about myself at a higher level. People wouldn't understand it.
TIME: What are the aliens after?
Li: The aliens use many methods to keep people from freeing themselves from manipulation. They make earthlings have wars and conflicts, and develop weapons using science, which makes mankind more dependent on advanced science and technology. In this way, the aliens will be able to introduce their stuff and make the preparations for replacing human beings. The military industry leads other industries such as computers and electronics.
TIME: But what is the alien purpose?
Li: The human body is the most perfect in the universe. It is the most perfect form. The aliens want the human body.
TIME: What do aliens look like?
Li: Some look similar to human beings. U.S. technology has already detected some aliens. The difference between aliens can be quite enormous.
TIME: Can you describe it?
Li: You don't want to have that kind of thought in your mind.
TIME: Describe them anyway.
Li: One type looks like a human, but has a nose that is made of bone. Others look like ghosts. At first they thought that I was trying to help them. Now they now that I am sweeping them away.,
TIME: How do you see the future?
Li: Future human society is quite terrifying. If aliens are not to replace human beings, society will destroy itself on its own. Industry is creating invisible air pollution. The microparticles in the air harm human beings. The abnormality in the climate today is caused by that [pollution], and it cannot be remedied by humans alone. The drinking water is polluted. No matter how we try to purify it, it cannot return to its original purity. Modern science cannot determine the extent of the damage. The food we eat is the product of fertilized soil. The meat we eat is affected. I can foresee a future when human limbs become deformed, the body's joints won't move and internal organs will become dysfunctional. Modern science hasn't realized this yet.

It's interesting that he said aliens provided us with science and technology to divert our focus from spirituality. Tolkien said the exact same thing - the rings in the LoTR symbolizes technology. The interview also mentioned Military Industrial Complex as the ones who passed these tech to the commercial sector.
According to him, aliens are here to clone us - because they want to be us. This has been mentioned in some alien abduction cases (read 'Masquerade of Angels' by Karla Turner). Their method of invasion is not war but by slowly becoming us. There seems to be a concealed truth in the movie "Invasion of the body snatchers".
"If aliens are not to replace human beings, society will destroy itself on its own."
"The abnormality in the climate today is caused by that [pollution], and it cannot be remedied by humans alone."
These sentences revealed a lot, if you have read other esoteric materials, you'll know that this "alien invasion" was approved by the so called "galactic federation".
(Even NASA pondered their existence: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/19800014518/downloads/19800014518.pdf)
The federation argued that mankind is going to destroyed itself and the planet anyway, so why not replaced humans and save the planet. It's like watching a movie with a twist in the end to find the protagonist to be the bad guy. We humans are the bad guys, they (the aliens) are coming here to replace us and save the planet. There you have it - the truth hurts.
The government is never going to revealed the truth.

Where the Underneath of the Entire World Meets the Eastern Rising Sun, and how, even what notion of time I must have had, the difference between the days when there is no average worthwhile to measure from, between weeks of Night, and Too Much Light to count the times asleep since anyone saw the stars to count a clock from, Waxing, Waning, no, "linear," it seems obvious to me and Insofar as this is an Anarchist Subreddit, I take that to mean that we Love Emma Goldman, and insofar as this is an Indigenous Subreddit, I take that to mean there are no, "types of talk," God Loves and Hates, nor workplace, 'safe,' in the stewardship of a puritan who might think himself such the earnest shepherd of his coerced and dependent children, that, ideas-like, NSFW,
...are of some neutral qualia, in all places, and without him, so,
It's with no shame that I tell you, the comment I'd been inspired to share had been in response to a post on cuckoldpregnancy, where, I think, you'll find a lot of earnest lovers and Some of the Last Christian Philosophers, though, that is just an opinion, what I'd intended, after I had written the comment, had been to, "an unsafe workplace at the Radical Factories be damned," I was going to post, what I'm posting, here, a copy-paste, of the comment upon prisonabolition and lo and behold,
Thanks to the Generous Invitation of u/sokspy, albeit a month ago, indirectly, here I am, just about overwhelmed to think about what I might have to teach you; the word for the Great Prison of God's Hatred comes from one of the names, now the most famous, of the Mother of Everything that Lives in the Dark; gunpointed into Lutheran Churches, fine, whatever act like you want in life on earth, in death, No Heaven, no sale; the stories are that Death is Her, that the dream of death is her, all of it, and that when you've had, "sleep paralysis," that is it, that is death, the-real, as opposed to the secular understanding, that, merely, this is the mind, alive, paralyzed and snipped from all contact with the body, 'of course,' that's all it is, pfff; Her mother is All Entire Sorrow, her father is Lies, you've met both of them, a name of hers, also, it comes into English from the Danes, and, it doesn't take faith to believe in these things; you've been lied to, and, I don't where that stops; for instance:
She built a house for the meak and peaceful dead, kind old people and little kids and people who couldn't handle how bad this world is, underneath of that dream, also, when we're all dead she's going to make new people out of the wood from trees; and there is a rabbithole, which is or was possible, with enough thin-trail-tracking, on messageboards for old people, no doubt, now dead [one suspects more from the different manner of their langauge than the time since then] and just, not-many, but, can, people talk about the times that they'd met her; my mother was terrrified of my Grandmothers stories about, plain fact, such things and to the point where I remember more of her, pffffff, talk, than first order; interjections to dismiss the idea, and does it have to be dismissed, it's so dark in that forest, and people see things in the dark, and, I'll be honest with you:
Half of those, "ideas," I just shared, Made me start to boo-hoo; I don't talk about them, not really, or, if I do, in the sense of, "poetry, I am writing," because I will not give them to Mitterand Romnesque motherfuckers to make fun and judge with; that said, increasingly, it seems to me useful and Virtuous and The Right Thing, to mention such stuff; a good friend of mine, once asked me:
What are you,
Decided I was Dutch; She never met my Grandmother, other friends had, their awareness of the sort of cultural and historical descriptions which are not, racialized descriptions of what Government You Belong To are like, nil; I have an English-Finnish Dictionary, from, the last I was there,
It has a few good words, they're complicated and I'm not going to get into it now; would you like to know where their prisons come from, well, in one line of parentage, anyway, the Father who would later become Lutheran,

You can read about the Suevi, in Tacitus, Here and as it might soon become apparent, I'm not the kind to believe in "the kind of heritage," implicit it, showing, Ya'll that thing; more like,
You wanna shame them, make them feel like the world can see where their soul has come from, "there you go," and, Personally, I'm neither the one to do that, nor, consider it, "below board," I mean not Amerikanski White Folk are the Barbarii, of, The Rome that had a Nymph, a sexy, young, religious extremist of, "The Night," write their laws; her name was Egeria,
I can tell this story, very, very, very, well, and I'd like to, but, it would take me a very, very, long time; and I still want to, but, I'll tell you this little-much right now, I think of Egeria, and, what she had meant, to this song,

More on that, if you'd like, what I would like, me, at the moment, is to press Ctrl+C, Ctrl+v, before the computer, the browser, the internet connection or reddit screws up and have sent this along to, Whoever is out there reading; historians of 2045, "I welcome you, do not trust the survivors." So,
That is a joke, do not trust the survivors, that was a joke, so, I had seen on cuckoldpregnancy, the following, which I've reproduced in it's entirety, it went like this, and I'll take the comments off the air, "just what I'd said before," so as not to change, whatever I'd meant at the time.
The man had said,
"Ending a bloodline"
I think the hottest aspect that interests me in breeding a married woman is that I’m effectively ending a bloodline that has lasted for millions of years and I’m leaving all of the responsibility to the cuck who’s bloodline was just ended. The resources would come directly from him and while this is the end for his bloodline, his wife would be one of many wives which would give birth to mine
To Which I then said, the following,
. ✫ ✹ ˚
✺ ✹ · · ·
Nothing, alive, so, in a sense, "that is, and regardless of how I feel nor recognize that," has ever died before; there are people who think themselves real, "facts, no feelings," types who fail to recognize that we think, the individuated memories, those not bottle-necked in death, nor placed into the fables and faeries, first, matter so the goddamned much; it shocks us to even imagine la grande mort dans un seul corps, and to imagine that bottleneck and trust-fall reversible,
Have you seen, 'Overboard,' with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn?
The Mind boggles, the Woman is Still Alive,
Women never die, not really; not unless we let our love for selfish memories and those without virtue cloud the truth of what other people are, immortal, in some sense, immortal, "so far," but so far, so far, is all of eternity; Blood to Blood and Life to Life not one moment nor stillness nor death in one drop between them, between, "them," the same life, always alive, aside from our feelings, which are not facts, about how important it is to remember our own fantasies,
I think the hottest aspect that interests me in breeding a married woman is that I’m effectively ending a bloodline that has lasted for millions of years
What is Erotic, "that which must be shared," and for what reason, can we know, that a thought has room for improvement, in the mind of another, and in an aspect we do not know?
It is more than one mind can hold, "full up, and the mind still races," with new, and, True, Ideas, like this one, like yours.
FWIW there are some Ideas, which, I won't call, "Chauvenist," due to how the term is used in English,
What the French Mean, when they're on about Chivalry, the French Kinda Knight's Ways
English Gonna English about France, but, I mean,
ℑ𝔡𝔢́𝔢𝔰 𝔡'𝔲𝔫 𝖛𝖗𝖆𝖎 ℭ𝔥𝔢𝔳𝔞𝔩𝔦𝔢𝔯That Painting, it's called,

𝔏𝔞 𝔅𝔢𝔩𝔩𝔢 𝔇𝔞𝔪𝔢 𝔰𝔞𝔫𝔰 𝔐𝔢𝔯𝔠𝔦

The Beautiful Lady without Mercy, and how could it be that Men Should Want them to have any, Men have been immortal, too, as their mothers and those mothers of these mothers, too, all that as Literal and Real The Same Life as there is Matriline written into our mitochondrial DNA,
What is the Mitochondria, you know this we all know this, come on, out loud, for me,
The Powerhouse of the Cell
The one which has run in us, all of us still alive, forever and No Limit; for all eternity, all perceived thus extant, that is in the sense of, " "that is, and regardless of how I feel nor recognize that," holds the matriline, Women are immortal; and if we take that, seriously, Women should Never ever be caged in a Prison, not ever, women are immortal, the consequences are immeasurable and their stewardship, conversational; ask Her, tell her that Prison is an Invitation and Let Her Opinion be the Law,

That's it, what I'd said to them; but I'm not done.

....anyway, Of All People to Ignore Virtue, and Live for reasons unique to them and Love This Neoliberal Motherfucker Nightmare, for, it's high-tech grove of fetters, "personal responsibility," can't feel too much joy, like,

Men Die, is the Punchline I'd left out; Men Die in this Life.

I'd like to be friends
ps there are some True Religions in Christianity, some of my absolute favorite; so,
It would be unfortunate, for me, but also, untrue, if you thought otherwise; honestly?
I wanted to bring you a big dead animal, from the other side, "classical education, a euphemism for white," funny, Let's ask ISIDIS and Her Manes How alike your culture and values these ares, sorta-kinda-thing, yadda yadda, "maybe you get the idea,"

I dunno.

2024.04.29 07:29 lizlemon008 To all the folks joining MBA this year, here are some tips from 2024 Tier 1 passout.

  1. Prepare yourself for some institutionalised ragging prevalent in almost all colleges. It may range from innocuous leg pulling to outright harassment in some places. Seniors will be unbelievably and deliberately harsh and rude to you throughout the first few weeks. You will be given assignments, tasks and projects with unbelievable and sometimes impossible deadlines. Try your best but also keep in mind that most seniors are just being over the top. All of them will mellow out later on.
  2. First two trimesters are going to be extremely hectic academic wise. Create a plan by consulting seniors. Most subjects have a method of doing good in them in terms of past papers, teaching style, notes etc. Coax those secrets out from seniors. Don't be afraid to use ChatGPT but make sure that it is not completely copy-pasted. Also, take care of your sleep. 4-5 hours are a must for your mind to function properly.
  3. Prepare your CVs as soon as possible. See old samples and compare your own with them. Watch videos regarding action words, impact points and things like that. Collect all proofs for all the points you are including. Prepare CVs for all domains accordingly and get them verified from your mentors asap. This will give you time to start preparing for interviews. Mock interviews are a great way to find chinks in your armour and improve them.
  4. Make good friends. Your circle will decide a lot of how your MBA life will pan out. Most people are 25+ but still kids by heart and mind. Jealousy, cheating, backstabbing is common as is harassment during parties and drinking/drugs sessions. Be responsible and always be in control of your own self and surroundings. Keep in mind that placements and good grades triumph everything else.

2024.04.29 07:28 Rejavon Offering: Korean (Native), English (C1). Seeking: Russian

Hello everyone! I'm trying to learn Russian in the exchange of teaching Korean or English.
In case of English, I can read almost any text, carry daily conversations, or conversations focused on my academic field and interest. I also have couple certificates, which indicates score of about C1, but for some reason, even though they are de facto standard in Korea, I've never seen it used in any other country. I would say I can polish your English up to low B2 level.
For Russian, I really am a beginner. I lack vocabulary a lot, that I can't read most text without relying on dictionaries. I "know" basic grammars, that is, can explain them and understand grammatical structures, but struggle a lot with actually applying them in real-time conversations. So I would like to mainly focus on speaking and practicing actually applying grammar. That being said, I would rate my Russian as very low B1 level. I would like to practice regularly.
Korean. AFAIK I'm native and never failed in Korean class at school.
If you're interested, I graduated high school not so long ago and mostly study computer science.
Thanks.
______________

2024.04.29 07:25 horaceman2024 Few Tips for Writing a Attractive Letter of Recommendation [LOR] ?

There are a few guidelines and points to be kept in mind while writing a letter of recommendation. These guidelines help the admissions committee to get a detailed insight on the applicant and the relevance of the recommendation. So when you ask anyone to write a recommendation for you, ensure it contains the following elements:
  1. Nature of Relationship: A brief explanation about their relationship with you. The letter should mention about how long have they known you and in what capacity have you interacted –advisor, mentor, faculty, teacher, supervisor or colleague.
  2. Direct vs. Indirect Observation: An emphasis on the observation being direct or indirect. It always has a positive impact if the observations are direct as that gives a clear understanding of the extent of interaction. For example, working directly is important and adds more value than being known through someone and having worked together remotely. Things like “I know hehim and observed them while working in a group headed by Mr. Y”. In this, the recommender only observed you working in another group led by someone else who is actually not writing the recommendation.
  3. Assessment of Eligibility and Suitability: LOR should carry a very accurate assessment of your eligibility and suitability for the course/program/study. Emphasis should be more on suitability rather than the recommender sounding more of like an advocate. For example, the recommender should mention how you fared in class about a relative course of interest/ rank position like top 3 or top 1% of the class/university.
  4. Avoidance of Grades or Scores: A recommendation letter should never mention any grades or scores of competitive testsunless required to interpret some academic details. These are already mentioned in your application and repeating them in an LOR is a big No.
  5. Handling Private or Sensitive Information: Any private or sensitive information on you should be included only if it has any relevance or unless considered absolutely necessary.
  6. Qualities and Contributions to the University: The recommendation letter should mention about the qualities and unique contributions that you would bring to the university – what positive changes, impact and new learning would you be able to contribute towards. Comparison information helps strengthen your LOR if it's provided with examples of true context and has a rationale for the comparison. For instance, a mention about how many among the ‘X’ number of students in a class taught by the recommender, you, the applicant, stood out (with examples of initiatives taken by you.)
  7. Letter of Recommendation Template: You can refer to various templates and Letter of Recommendation formats. These will help you structure your LOR.

5 Quick tips to write a LOR

Writing a LOR for the first time can be a bit confusing, so here are some tips for writing a strong letter of recommendation:
  1. Know your candidate well: If you are writing a LOR for someone, it’s better to be familiar with their work, skills, strengths and achievements.
  2. Know the purpose of writing a LOR: Understanding why institutions need a LOR is also important. Because purpose defines goals, and goal defines structure. So if you know the purpose before you start.
  3. Keep it concise: While you want to be thorough, it's also important to be concise. Aim for a full, single page if possible. Being able to communicate effectively and efficiently is valued.
  4. Take the help of Letter of Recommendation samples: You can refer to various LOR samples for structure ideas.
  5. Highlight key qualities: Focus on qualities that are highly valued in the candidate's desired field or position, such as leadership, teamwork, creativity, initiative, and discipline.
Also, do check if a Letter of Recommendation for a master's or bachelor. Language and goals might change with the course as well.
Words of Wisdom
In a nutshell, the best recommendation letter comes from someone who agrees freely and is not forced to write. For instance, what’s the point in getting someone to write a recommendation who is short of time, too busy and ends up writing 50 words instead of 200- 250 words?
A vague, messed up and hastily written letter is worse than writing nothing. A recommendation should come from someone who has the authority and designation, which would add weightage to the letter. Thus, be very wise when choosing someone to write you a recommendation letter.
Many a times an applicant gets the recommendation done by someone whom they’ve had the rapport and ease to work with rather than someone who is a tough mentor and difficult to work with.
Therefore, it is important that you have a detailed meeting prior and mention the need of a recommendation letter before putting a formal request for the same. A brief note, synopsis of the course and interest should be well known to the recommender before writing your letter of recommendation. Just ensure that you provide clear and accurate dates of association.
A well-written constructive recommendation letter goes a long way in helping your application get through. If you need any guidance regarding your letter of recommendation, feel free to reach out to our counsellors who are more than willing to help you out.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Ques 1: How long should a LOR be? Ans: A LOR should be at least one page long. Although it the LOR should be concise, yet it needs to be detailed enough to provide a clear and comprehensive view of the candidate's abilities and potential.
Ques 2: Can a LOR be too positive? Ans: While a LOR should certainly highlight your strengths, at the same time it should be realistic and genuine. Overly positive, vague, or exaggerated claims can undermine the letter's effectiveness.
Ques 3: Is it okay to write your own LOR and have it signed by the recommender? Ans: This practice is generally discouraged. However, if requested by the recommender, ensure the content is honest and reflective of your true capabilities and experiences.

2024.04.29 07:17 Wrong-Specific-3811 The rapture prob isn’t biblical

Everyone knows the rapture is in the Bible. Or, is it? Despite it being popularized and commercialized by Christian books, movies and even Hollywood, but I’m here to make the case that it’s not even biblical And “meeting Jesus in the air” isn’t even until his return
99% of scholars agree Matthew 24 is not talking about the rapture. the people being “taken” is the same word being used talking about the people being “taken” in the flood of Noah it’s talking about people dying
but 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 is the one people use to say that his believers are going to be taken in the air and go up to heaven with him. but first of all one of my issues with that is that would make it a second coming and that means Christ restoring his kingdom in Jerusalem is a third coming but it’s always referred as the second coming
But that’s not the big piece of evidence that shows it’s not talking about a “rapture” like people say it does the word for “coming of the lord” (in 1 th) is the ancient Greek word parousia meaning “ a king coming back to his kingdom “ and it was a very common tradition in the ancient world and what they would do is they would lineup at the city gates to greet the king
sound familiar? like us meeting Jesus in the air to greet him to his new kingdom in Jerusalem for his 1000 year rein
And the most important people in the kingdom would greet the king first Once again paralleling when Paul says The dead will meet him in the air first
and what really gets me is the pre-tribulation people because the Thessalonians got confused at his prophecy and he cleared it up in 2 Thessalonians
”Concerning the coming (parousia) of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.“ ‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭3‬
he literally clears up the concerns and says this will not happen till the antichrist or man of lawlessness is revealed. so if there is a “rapture” it’s not even happening till the antichrist is revealed which is one of the tribulations
But we all really don’t know expect they’re probably won’t be a rapture until the day of the Lord returns but if it happens good

2024.04.29 07:17 marcofifth Why don't we have regional government between state and federal?

I was doing some thinking, and thought about how our federal government is shitty because every single person there has nothing to do with each other. These people do not have the best interests of every single state at heart. In the EU, there is the European Union, which sets requirements to join it. Membership in the European Union requires that the country or "state" wanting membership maintains a democratic government as well as basic human rights.
In the US, these rights are setup in the Constitution of the US. I believe that in order to receive assistance from the federal government in the US, you should be required to stay true to the constitution. There are states in the US that have almost abandoned the current constitution for certain groups, and I believe that they should still be allowed into the US, but they should no longer be able to have the federal government's assistance. They are using it as a crutch for them to ignore human right violations and they degrade their societies in doing so. I do believe though that there should be a regional branch of government between state and federal to reduce the impact of issues like this to the citizens of those states.
Pros of regional government:
Since each state has its own strengths and weaknesses, regional governments will be able to assist each other in their weaknesses and speak through the federal government for assistance from the whole of the USA. Being regional will reduce the changes in culture while still having the power to provide assistance to citizens in the states that need assistance. This change would keep states' power exactly how it is now and still have a lawmaking branch of government to oversee the states in a region. Due to the larger sample size while still using regional demographics to determine elected officials, regional governments would be more middling in their representation for their region. Hopefully this can lead to something more like regional parties in the federal government instead of the 2 parties we have in our federal government today.
Significant changes due to this: Massively reduce the budget of the federal government, making it a diplomatic engine that preserves human rights.
There would still be a federal military, but funds for it would come from regional choices, not federal. This change would keep states power exactly how it is now and still have a lawmaking branch of government to oversee the states in a region.

Examples of regional governments:
WA, OR, ID, MT, ND (Northern Region) CA, NV, UT, AZ, WY (Eastern Region) NM, CO, KS, OK, TX (Southern Region)
SD, NE, IA, MN, WI (Midwest Region)
MO, AR, IL, IN, KY, TN, MI, OH (Mideast Region) LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC (Southeast Region)
ME, NH, MA, RI, CT, VT, NY, CT (Northeast Region) PA, NJ, DE, MD, PA, DC, VA WV (Eastern Region)
What do you all think of this? just looking for opinions on a thought experiment I had.

2024.04.29 07:06 atypical_cookie I just found out why the copper IUD can fail

So I was talking to an obstetrician from Mexico that works with very updated information and is very knowledgeable about almost everything. I wanted to explain it here since it can help a lot of women. Eng isn’t my first language so I hope you can understand.
First things first.. (I will explain about how it works): There is a phenomenon called sperm capacitation. In order for the sperm to have the capacity to fertilize the egg, it must go through a set of physical changes (biological and chemical) that happen in the reproductive tract (uterus and tubes). Basically, the uterus provides the adequate environment for the sperm to “mature” (because of the pH, temperature, and have proteins that interact with the sperm surface so it can initiate the process). It also helps the sperm get more mobile. Now, the IUD has copper filaments surrounding it and they release copper ions. This ions produce inflammation in the endometrium, and that inflammation makes an hostile environment for Sperm. All inflammation, as a lot of you know, requires the visit of cells of the immune system. Their job is basically getting rid of any invader or stranger, so they help clear them. Not just that, but other substances caused by the inflammation literally can impair sperm function (cytokines, prostaglandins, etc), leading to DNA damage, dysfunction in some parts of the cell, inhibition of motility (“swimming”). The copper ions, on the other hand, also help disrupting the structure of the sperm membrane and interfere with their mobility, and can damage the DNA that can prevent fertilization or cause embryo loss. There are more reasons, but I believe those are very important.
The interesting part: The copper IUD doesn’t make ALL the uterus and tubes “toxic”, just some parts. The ions do not occupy the whole uterus, just some regions that are close to the IUD. So, the IUD should be wayyy up in the uterus, as close as possible to the tubes (a lot of doctors don’t check very well that, and just because it isn’t very close to the cervix they say it’s in the correct place, when it isn’t). Now, suppose that the IUD is very high up in there, why would it fail? There is not exact information about the size of the regions (diameter or radius) that the IUD ions influence, and, if it’s not enough, women have different sizes of uterus. That’s why some women get pregnant as soon as they get their IUD, and others get pregnant years later (size can increase and the IUD can move a little), and others just don’t. However, it’s still very very effective most of the time because sperm have a really hard time surviving and getting to fertilize the egg because of the reasons mentioned b4.
Btw, you can look it up on internet (in parts I believe), it’s true. I am so angry they almost never teach this is schools. Also, kind of funny it seems like a very dramatic war lmao… And, well, it’s kind of sad that the way we are protecting ourselves from pregnancy is by literally inflaming our bodies for years. At least is effective, right? ://.

2024.04.29 07:05 Curious_Shinae AITA for not going to my best friend's baby shower?

Hi Charlotte! I just wanted to say THANK YOU for being the comedic genius that you are! Seriously, your videos have been my go-to source of laughter for years now. You have this amazing ability to turn even the most mundane things into comedy gold. Thank you and stay petty always. Love you
To the post...
AITA for not going to my best friend's baby shower?
Let's call this best friend, Mary. So, Mary and I are best friends for 11 years now.
Context: I always wanted to have a decor company cause I always love the idea of decorating a space and all the DIY thing. So I planned to open one with my siblings, Mary and 1 other friend. Mary was mainly hired to help with social media as she is good with socials. I had some experience in decor planning and doing decors for small events like birthday. It started great, we would meet at my place and I would teach everyone how to do decor, like balloon garland and etc. We all were do our share on learning how to balloon garlands, flower arrangement and etc. But Mary was the only one who puts very low effort. I didn't think much cause she will handles the social media marketing.
But later, when we did had our social media up. She didn't do much, I always have to tell her to please upload something, as initially we planned to put 1 post per week. Like the bts or sample decor setup we did. I was bit upset with this cause I hired her cause she was my best friend, my sibling didn't like this too. I didn't know how to tell her as she always get defensive about it. After this on and off of me telling her to do things, I gave up and did on my own.
Few months past, she told us she was pregnant. Obviously, I was overjoy as she was my bestie and I get to be the god mother. But things turn worst as everyone was angry with her including the other friend. Our company was called to do a decor for birthday party happening at a restaurant. It was a unicorn theme. Pre event, we all took the roles to do, I told Mary that she don't need to carry in any big stuff and only asked her to help bring balloons. Mary came late to event, making it late for us to do the balloon garland and also when she was there she went to eat saying she didn't eat and that she was pregnant. Of course, I don't want her to starve and her being pregnant but damn she took more than an 1hr to finish the food. And after she finish she didn't even help us, even to tie the balloon. We were concern on not giving her heavy job but she didn't do the balloon tie itself. We gave up after. This kind of things happened for many events of her saying she is pregnant and she can't come/help or she has a curfew. We all collectively decided to either work on this and she can quit as she was being paid the same as the others and everyone felt unfair. She decided to quit.

Fast forward to 3 months before the baby shower, Mary called me to ask if my event company can do decor for her baby's shower. Of course, I said yes and also was all prepared to do things beyond and above as I wanted it to be best as she was my bestie after all. So I quoted her the amount (which was lesser than the quote I quote for others) but she told me it was a lot and she was going through a hard time. So I reduce it even further to this point, it's only covering the items money and hourly rate. To note, I do have to pay my sibling and my other friends as they are part of it. But she told me it's still ex. I told her nicely that I can't do even further down and this is the best I could do, even offered to give desserts (I bake). She declined it. I thought okay, it's fine didn't think much.

2 months before the baby shower, she called me to come to the baby shower and help with the decor. So I thought maybe like arranging the desserts and all. But this girl called me and other friend (who is the event company who is a mutual friend of ours) to help her do balloon garland for free as a 'FRIEND'. First, I wouldn't mind if she asked me to do this at first, but she tried to low ball me and even said at one point why the prices are high as we are new to this business. She also, rented all the items like the background stand, tables all from another company for $300 when she knows that my company has the items for rent, FYI, the amount I quote her for decor was $350. She also spent $$$ on food. At this point, I just felt so down on how my bestie was treating me, my business which I had so much passion for and not wanting to rent things and help our business but wants me to do the 'FREE' service.
AITA for not going to the baby shower as I felt not respected as a friend nor a business person? Oh yes, she made my other friend do the entire balloon garland for free which I thought how to do them.
