2024.05.13 02:26 Tetrachrome I tallied up the amount of time HSR uses visual-novel style sequences in ALL of its story patches (and found Penacony uses it way more)

In light of recent discussions regarding the delivery of story in Penacony and how HSR is akin to a ā€œvisual novelā€ with narration, I thought it would be interesting to investigate how much of HSRā€™s story delivery actually takes place in a narrated visual novel style, since the game does feature that type of delivery, and whether or not Penacony has made any significant changes on this front. I'm tallying these because these tend to be the least interactive sequences to look at visually, leading to a heavily expository feel to the scene.
The scenes I consider a "narrated visual novel" sequence:
https://preview.redd.it/l0q5s2y3830d1.png?width=1844&format=png&auto=webp&s=c810723c1cc9d4ab6e75740df013ce02b2bdf519
What I do not count as a "VN" sequence:
Iā€™m only counting the times VN-style scenes are used in the main story quests of each patch and not any side quests, companion quests, events, or Simulated Universe.

THE TL;DR AND OVERALL CONCLUSION:

Penacony 2.1 and 2.2 has significantly more VN sequences, overwhelmingly so. I have provided a chart below depicting the number of seconds spent in VN sequences over the course of the patches. Penacony 2.2 alone has 4271 seconds (1hr 11min 11sec) of VN screentime, which eclipses that of all previous patches combined. Penacony 2.0+2.1+2.2 features 6237 seconds of VN screentime (1hr 43mins 57sec), which is 3.92x that of 1.X's VN scene usage (1590 seconds). Penacony also has more individual instances of VN segments, totaling to 27 scenes in 2.0-2.2, which is more instances than all of 1.X (18 scenes in 1.0-1.6).
https://preview.redd.it/2br8oonc830d1.png?width=1752&format=png&auto=webp&s=597d9ae079e6cecb37dfc522d8683bd9a4928a54
However, Penacony is also a much longer story, naturally leading to more dialogue and cutscene time than in previous patches. There aren't many ways to correct for this exactly to see proportionally how long is spent in VNs, nor easily done as it would involve parsing every instance of voiced dialogue or cutscene-equivalent in the main story. If we were to take some rough numbers though, Penacony Acts 2 and 3 are roughly 10 hours long in total playtime if just doing the story, with ~1 hour 43 minutes spent in VN sequences. This equates to roughly ~17% of the runtime being visual novel narration in the past 2 patches, which is fairly significant. By comparison, all of 1.0 content (Herta Station, Belobog, Luofu Act 1) would take roughly ~15 hours to complete if ignoring side content and SU and events, with only ~17 minutes of VN time, leading to only ~1.8% of the time spent in VN sequences.
In conclusion, Penacony definitely exhibits more visual novel style than the previous patches based on the amount of time spent in visual novel-styled sequences. Moreover, the VN style variety in Penacony is more limited than in previous patches, featuring largely still shots with some particle animations and no animations in the scene actors (see my breakdown below). This leads to Penaconyā€™s VN style feeling more static than in previous patches, with a heavier emphasis on the narration rather than the visual presentation in these types of scenes.

The Breakdown

Ok so now for the breakdown. For all this ā€œresearch,ā€ Iā€™ve used the HSR playthrough videos by the youtube channel Rubhen925, which have cutscenes on autoplay and thus pretty good consistency in cutscene timing behavior. I have also included linked time stamps for the start of these VN sequences in the respective playthrough videos in case people want to take a closer look. Iā€™ve also included a brief note about each VN, as there is some variation in the artstyle of these pre-drawn VN sequences.
Iā€™ll put a disclaimer here and say that I may have missed one or two sequences, as I sifted through the footage watching the videos at 2x speed and skipping through sequences of combat or active gameplay, so there is a margin of error here. With that being said, here is the detailed breakdown, with the total time count in each header:
1.0 Herta Space Station Main Arc ā€“ 0 minutes
1.0 Belobog Main Arc ā€“ 12 minutes, 48 seconds
1.0-1.3 Xianzhou Luofu Main Arc ā€“ 4 minutes, 15 seconds
1.4 Topaz Belobog Arc ā€“ 4 minutes, 46 seconds
1.5 Huohuo and spooky Luofu arc ā€“ 2 minutes, 13 seconds
1.6 Ruan Mei and Dr. Ratio Herta Space Station arcs ā€“ 2 minutes, 28 seconds
2.0 Penacony Act 1 ā€“ 2 minutes, 12 seconds
2.1 Penacony Act 2 ā€“ 30 minutes, 34 seconds
2.2 Penacony Act 3 ā€“ 1 hour, 11 minutes, 11 seconds

Afterword

I spent way too much time on this but it was also entertaining rewatching old story :)
Edit: idk why it shows a youtube embed, reddit is weird :/

2024.05.13 01:16 vvalentiine was i actually groomed?

hello, im an 18yo. (not actually explicit, just unsure if this counts as nsfw) (TLDR further down.)
since i was 7 years old i had unrestricted and almost completely unmonitered internet access. i would go on social media, youtube, all that stuff. i started consistently viewing sexual and violent content, and began to have intrusive and obsessive sexual thoughts basically all the time..
when i was around 8, i started posting on social media. mostly dumb stuff like jokes or my drawings, and went onto quotev, a quiz/story sharing website where you can create, post, take, and read other's content ā€“ and you could update activity status, comment, and message other people. i lied about being 14 so my favorite authors and quiz makers wouldn't ignore me because i was an elementary schooler.
mind you, i knew i shouldnt be doing this, and i knew very well how to practice internet safety (in a way that avoids direct physical harm or bullying). i would tell my sibling and parents about my chats, and theyd warn me to be safe and occasional asked to read through my messages of many, many different people i'd talk to.
most were harmless, either teens just sharing fandom content, or adults trying to create good fictional stories. none of the better people ever flirted or even talked about anything remotely sexual.
but some other people did. and i enjoyed the attention, as i was finally getting sexual attention that i couldn't get from my peers (which i understand is something i shouldnt have neccesarily wanted anyway. i was 8.)
regardless, they thought i was a kid, and still told me about sexual experiences or fantasies, and would ask me about similar topics. eventually, one asked for a picture, and everything kinda snowballed from there?
since then until i was 15-ish, i was intentionally interacted with LOTS of predators online. some just a few times, and others for months or years. i knew most were just into me for sexual stuff, but some would talk very sweetly and ask about my day or my parents and let me vent about my mental health issues and anxieties or my dreams and goals. some would give me money. again, i knew it was probably just a front to get more from me, but it made me feel loved in a weird way. (like, "you like me so much youre willing to pretend to care about me everyday and give me money")
im kinda messed up now from so many years of it, and feel like ive reached a sexual "expiration date" already 'cause im too old. i miss the feeling of talking to these people, sometimes even crying and wanting to pretend to be a minor so i can have sexual attention from pedophiles again (i havent ever and wont ever, but i still think about it). i hate predators so much i physically feel enraged, but the when i remember the people i talked to im just sad and kinda empty feeling.
i dont know if its really trauma, and sometimes i think i have something close to POCD because of it and my family's experiences (my sibling and mother were both sexually abused) but thats a different subject.
ā€” ā€” ā€” TLDR: was i really groomed if i knew what was going on? i never really thought they were actually my friends, and understood that what i was doing was wrong. i kept it a secret and LIKED that they were attracted to me and were trying to take advantage of me because i was a kid.
so much resources ive seen say that being groomed is a process that happens without the child realizing whats going on is bad, or that they have to believe the person is a good person or friend or lover. i just feel weird about it, because on one hand i feel like someone who does that what these people did to me is a groomer and sexual abuser, but when i think about myself i dont really feel like it counts as abuse?
ive only recently started trying to deal with this, and it feels hard because most things i see are of people who were abused in-person or didn't realize what was happening was wrong. i dont know how to navigate anything about this at all
sorry if the formatting was bad, im kind of emotional rn and word-vomiting

2024.05.09 23:14 troXstudios Aethir Cloud Airdrop šŸ‘‰ How to participate (easy steps to follow) ā˜† Very promising DePIN-project

Don't miss this epic DePIN Airdrop. Only about 19 days left to qualify as of this writing!
Feel free to use my referral link to get going and start earning your badges:
https://airdrop.aethir.com/home?referralCode=BVBHteS170QSK57Ox2AR
šŸ‘‡ Keep on reading how to easily score points. šŸ‘‡
Thanks for your support! ā¤ļø
Before you continue, make sure to upvote this post and follow this community to stay in the loop about everything DePIN.
Let's start with these easy steps to be eligible for this airdrop:
1ļøāƒ£ Connect your EVM-compatible wallet on the Aethir cloud drop page. Metamask works just fine.
You might wanna create a new wallet address in Metamask for security reasons.
šŸ‘‡
This address you'll have to use for all the activities regarding this airdrop and interacting with Aethir.
But keep in mind that you'll need about 0.00008 eth on the arbitrum one chain in that wallet (which is about $ 0.25) to be able to get the Layer3 NFT batch.
2ļøāƒ£ After connecting your wallet to the Aethir cloud drop page, scroll all the way down to the Galxe tasks and click on it.
Remember, you'll have to connect the same wallet on Galxe as well to be recognized by the cloud drop page later for your Galxe batch.
3ļøāƒ£ Do all the quests on Galxe till you have a minimum of 1000 points. Be aware that new tasks get unlocked on a day to day basis, so check back frequently to get more points.
4ļøāƒ£ Go back to the cloud drop page and make sure your wallet is still connected. Then scroll all the way down to the Layer3 Quiz and click on it.
Connect to Layer3.xyz with the same wallet address as well. Read the tasks and take the quiz (very easy!). šŸ˜ƒ
5ļøāƒ£ After successfully completing the quiz (no worries if you give a wrong answer, you'll instantly get another try for the same question), you'll have to mint the Cube NFT in order to get that batch into the cloud drop page.
To mint at low cost, go to your connected wallet and change to the Arbitrum One chain and top it up with about 0.0001 ETH for the mint/network fee, which is only about $ 0.30.
Head back to the Layer3.xyz page and initiate the mint. You'll have to confirm the 'transaction' in your wallet as well (but always remember to do your own diligence when interacting with smart contracts, always read carefully what you are signing! Best to use a newly created (burner) wallet for these kind of airdrops, never do this stuff with one of your main wallets where a malicious code could drain your coins!).
6ļøāƒ£ Back on the cloud drop page, you should see your first batch 'Layer3'. Make sure to also reach a minimum of 1000 points in the Galxe quest to get that batch too. Be aware that batches can and will take up to 24 hours to appear on your site.
7ļøāƒ£ Refer friends to earn extra points and climb that leaderboard!
Hope it worked & happy DePINin! ā¤ļø

2024.05.09 18:44 Beginning-Argument87 If it's not a bother please share your insights and advice.

So Hi, I'm a male 19 years old and currently a student who stopped for a year due to some problem in documents. I know that info is kinda personal but please allow me just this once it's vital.
So throughout my childhood, I wouldn't say I got neglected, but I do have a broken family where my mom when I was young was always away and irresponsible and for my dad he bought milk and never contacted us again. In the end I was raised by my Grandmother, which often tells me ever since I was a kid that I shouldn't hold any grudge to my parents regardless of what's happening, they always tell me the full details and explain it to me carefully saying that In the end of the day they're still my parents and I should honor that and respect them, in which I did, I never even once held contempt or hatred to my parents. Yes I did get angry sometimes but I'm that kind of person who's angry now and after a while or after sleep I'm all good again forgetting all of the anger and even words that I said like "I'll never help you guys again" in fact I'll proceed and make them feel good again.
Fast forward as a Kid I was really hyper and the kind of Kid that's always lead the other kids with the smile, at the age of 3 I already handle a little grocery in the local market for my grandma's mini store, with a paper in hand on what I should buy and money in a plastic, I'll go alone and just give them to the sales lady. I also know how to wash dishes. Even when I started kinder, my grandma only accompanied me once on the way to school IN THE MORNING okay and told me she's busy in the mini store, in which I replied "It's okay I can manage myself" and so after that and even in the future I always go home and go to school alone. All of those at the age of 3-5. Around that age I was also exposed to porns, but never told anyone because It didn't intrigued me, I also saw them fight from time to time, especially when it comes to mom. I even saw my Grandma pull her hair out and really dragged her out. Of course I cried, but still didn't understand why. I accepted all explanation that it's nothing despite knowing that's it's nothing because they're crying.
In school I was always being bullied and humiliated, Idk maybe because I have fairly good looks? have an energetic personality? idk really and because of that I grew shy and conscious of what I'm doing, when I report this to my family especially to my grandma they'll say "Fight". in which I did out of anger in my 2nd grade. after that never again got bullied.
My family is talented, whenever you go here in our town/barangay even in the other areas they know a thing or two about my family, it's always about looks, achievements, personality and of course bad rumors too. if there's any flaw in this family is that we're poor and the relationship is toxic. You might ask me so why are we still poor , its because my grandma, especially my uncle is dragging everyone out that so called "Crab Mentality"
Fast forward again, I grew up now with notable achievements and yes same as them my name was known. But I'm not perfect I committed crimes such as stealing in school, shoplifting, stealing on someone all because I'm curious how it feels, it only stopped after I got caught red handed in school and got punished and of course this news spread like a wildfire on the school teachers/officers, and they kept looking at me with dissapointed eyes same with ny clasmates although they're trying to defend me. Ultimately this led to the destruction of my bonds, in my 2nd year HS I got along pretty well with my peers, as usual I have my smarts and talents which is the main reason why we bonded, it was as if nothing happened. But one day I was out sick and there was a quiz in which my friends (not the intellect ones) failed. To my surprise they blamed it on me, I took it as a joke but from that moment on I noticed something, they took me for granted.
I was the one who always start talking to new people which will lead to my friends to interact with others, and of course it will become a new friendship. One thing I didn't notice is that I was just there to start things up and provide for them, I always give them ideas, let them copy my homework, test, carey them academically even the intellect ones and taking it all the blames sometime.
So to quell this feeling of isolation I started a little experiment in which I started to avoid them, yk the usual "give me attention" act. In which I'll just read books alone, sleep in the class/while in class, always not paying attention not socializing and such and not giving ideas, of course I still did my duty as a student to pass, but wow hahaha it was really just as I expected I was not included in them.
The project in which I gave various hints and Idea to the leaders, where I helped even in other groups to make them all successful, the moment the gradings were released I was not included in any of the group. I failed a subject and got my first 75. This was the start of my self destruction.
Oh to follow up, I also broke many friendships without knowing some of them are my own friends and some of them are groups that I don't know who are the people in it. It looks like just me speaking with other people, laughing and getting along with them sparks jealousy, contempt and rivalry.
I parted with many friends because they thought I was hitting with their girl, the girl likes me more, the girls are fighting with each other. And the funny thing is, whenever this happens especially on my close friends I always have to think why they suddenly giving me the cold shoulder. The most funny one is this, I had friend, two pf them actually who's good at math we always debate the answer and laugh that's why I was so proud and happy with them, I genuinely hold them in high regard, I honestly thinks of them higher than me in anyway.
Since I care for them I noticed what they like or who they like, learning from past experience I limited my interaction with opposite sex. Way way wayyyyy before the female notice, I already notice my friend's love for her, I mean he's so gentle and so I was really rooting for them. It eventually led to confession A PUBLIC ONE to add and they became a couple, and it's a given that we will interact right? They're already a couple it's a given they love each other so there's no need to worry, they already have the proof. The girlfriend was extroverted and overwhelming to interact along with her friends.
To maintain the good relationship I have to interact with them. Of course all of us became best friends annnnnd tadaaaa~ the man I held in high regard, the boyfriend became jealous and of course I was oblivious, after that I got the usual cold shoulder. Although I already have an idea on what's going on, I refuse to believe it, he's my friend. But well nothing new, of course it led them into crying, arguing, even getting sympathy/angry reaction from my classmates, breaking up, coming back and again. I was the villain, although they always tell me that it's not my fault, whenever they fight it's always me, the most heartbreaking thing is that the man I respected said "It's because you're so handsome man". The ending? I gave them the peace they needed and cut all comms, now they're living happy.
Of course this was not limited to my peers, I am kinda aware that I am more or less the scapegoat pf the family. All conflicts will start at me, will lead to me and ultimately my existence alone will make them tear each other apart. In fact I'm writing this after a family fight. I was the youngest and thus not have voice
And so I wonder, am I really the one at fault? do I exist only to cause misery and destruction? Am I too narcissistic? A devil in human skin? A person that shouldn't exist? A useless person? Jerk? Detached of emotion? Am I really myself?
No, no, no, no it's not my fault that all of those happened right? I admit those include the consequences of robbery is my fault but other than that? No. I'm logical, and always think things through, I know I worry and overthink a lot. That's why even though I know it's not my fault, I always think is it really not my fault?
I know I have sins in fact I fully admit that I have the seven deadly sins in a high level, I'm not connected to God. I know all of this will be resolved if I come knocking to God, I know he'll forgive me but am I not just taking advantage of him then? I'm not worthy and thus I hesitate to ask for help. I want connection and help but I don't know how. I'm not even baptized, I always see the number of devil any form, I even know I'm set to hell...
I know all of my flaws but I also know my strengths. I read a book and a line hit me like a truck. "I'm just a jerk who knows he's a jerk and thus think of himself higher than the others because he knows" this is exactly the case of what I'm feeling rn. I think the reason I'm calm and collected or not minding anything is because I know myself, thus whenever I see someone losing their control I always think I'm superior.
HAHAHAHHAHA sorry I treated this as my notes, but I'm reaching my limit. I don't even know what or why I did write this.
To end things, I want you guys know that I never told anyone about all of this, problems, hatred everything. I also never let my anger out verbally, physically not even in games. Yes I act like a jerk when I'm piss but that's it. I believe in karma that's why I think twice about my actions and works. I believe that anything that cones out in anger will not only cut the one you're aiming but also yourself.
Last 2022 before my dogs came to me, I know i reached my limit, I can't fake a smile, control my expressions and control my thoughts. On that day where I was left alone in the house, in the afternoon watching tv alone. It was as if my soul flew out of my body and observe myself in bird eye view, I was isolated, I was alone, I can't hear anything nor think of anything just mindlessly killing time in TV on a holiday. That's where I thought "Ah death is really has come to greet me"
If not for my two dogs who's now my world and everything, I'm dead and burning in hell. I'm alive and doing my best to live, not think suicide nor anything negative because of them. On those nights where I always have nightmares, lucid dreams, feeling of someone looking at me when I'm alone, restless, it's my dog who saved me. To think that I was only playing with him and letting him eat, I didn't even intend to take care of her that time, yet she'll come up snuggle with me, put her head in my stomach, thighs, arms and ask for belly rub, this little angel really came up and stopped all of those what I'm feeling and thinking.
That's why to repay them I'm doing my best, I don't want to see them mourn for me, nor get hurt because of me, I want to be able to let them live to the fullest and happy. I want to mee them in Heaven. I'm teying my best really, but I'm afraid this only apply to them not to my family (Except for my mom and sis, I love them)
If anything happen to them, I may not be able to kill my family off because of morales but I'm afraid I'll make them suffer more. And now that they're being threatened on getting hurt, I'm afraid I don't know what I'll do.
Sorry It's so long and not organized, if there's someone who will finish this Thank you very much. I hope you guys will be able to provide some insight because I can't afford a therapy nor session. Be honest as much as possible, even if you slappee me that's better. Because I'll take them literally word by word

2024.05.09 08:32 Meowtyx Professor's Bad Teaching & Grading System (Vent)

Last semester, I found myself caught in an academic quagmire, courtesy of one particular professor's course. Picture this: A lecture class stretching an arduous 2.5 hours, where the only sound is the professor's droning voice reading from a script. The lack of student interaction was so severe, we might as well have been in an online class, despite actually being face-to-face.
Now, let's talk grades. In a move that defies conventional wisdom, this professor graded 10% on Attendance, 30% on quizzes and a whopping 60% on major exams. Homeworks? Assignments? Non-existent. Passing the class was essentially a game of Russian roulette with the quizzes and exams. To make matters worse, the structure of this professor's grading system follows a peculiar formula: 40% for the midterm grade and a whopping 60% for the finals grade.
The problem became excruciating when he simply instructed us to "Study everything about this" without any specificity or guidance. Imagine grappling with three 50-page report papers, only to face a 10-item exam consisting of 8 identification and 2 solving problems. The irony of it all? Not everything you studied made it to the exam.
Fast forward to the end of the semester, the damage was clear: 20 failed, only 10 passed, with the highest grade being a dismal 1.7. For context, in my degree program, achieving a passing grade of 1.0 requires at least 60% of your overall grades to be passed. And 4.0, being the ideal.
This fiasco set me back significantly. Not only was I delayed in my degree, but I also had the pleasure of retaking the same torturous class in a later semester.
The saga continues in this semester. Our dear professor is now teaching two more courses. One of them has already claimed 17 victims at the midterms, me included. His generous offer of redemption? A chance to boost grades if we pass the final exams.
The other course, I managed to pass with a 1.4. But here's the rub: despite acing all eight projects, scoring impressively on the quiz (26/28), and a less than stellar performance in the final exam (17/30, with 24 needed to pass), I'm far from content. Why? Because the grading system is fundamentally flawed and his teaching style is pure BS. It overlooks the efforts of students who actively participate in class, excel in projects, and prefer continuous assessment over one-off exams.
Apologies for the rant, but the situation is disheartening, especially when I'm deeply committed to earning this degree. The roadblock, it seems, isn't the course material but his archaic grading system and him.
TL;DR: Professor's class is a nightmare - long lectures, absurd grading (10% attendance, 30% quizzes, 60% exams), unclear expectations, and unfair distribution. Many fail, delaying degrees. Now he's teaching more courses with the same flawed system.

2024.05.08 23:38 Unknown_Boy0 I (M16) have a crush on someone in my grade but I am in a relationship with (F17) (If there are any typos, I apologize.)

Hi, this has been a problem for a bit and I am absolutely lost what to do and where to go now. As you read the title, I am under personal situation where I have a crush or feelings for someone, but I am still in a relationship that I have been in for a year. I think itā€™s best if I gave a little bit of background. The person who Iā€™ve been dating which I will call her R who is a grade older than me first started dating in the beginning of last year which would make her the first person Iā€™ve ever been in a relationship with. The whole chunk in the middle of that year was a really great experience of love and care that I thought I wouldnā€™t see in a long time and feelings that I would get one being with someone. It wasnā€™t until the closing few months of the year where things pretty much went a little downhill. We started arguing a lot, and something happened that involved, not being honest with myself, and with the relationship. We then just decided to pretty much split a part for a bit in December of that year. I got tons of backlash from friends of hers and people that even knew her and it just really made me feel not that safe in school, and just in general about myself. Into the beginning of the new year (pretty much the first week of January), we went on a class trip, and I really came to terms with my actions, and knowing that I may never have the same feelings that I had with her with anyone else. So on that week we reconciled and we pretty much got back together and I promised that a problem like that wouldnā€™t happen again.
After all that, a few months later me and R still in a relationship weā€™re feeling better about ourselves and we are now doing a show in our drama production. I actually got a lead, and she was part of ensemble. I was friends with a lot of the tech crew who I would hang out with while waiting for my cube or part in the show or just talking to them in general, this is when the other girl comes in who I will name her N.
I knew N a little longer than R, me and N went to the same middle school, and we knew each other from different classes and she was in Tech crew for last yearā€˜s Drama production. I didnā€™t really have any big connections or moments with N but we still talked to each other and just knew each others existence after the show this is one the problem started to really arise. N was in some of my classes and was friends with a lot of people that I know personally in my grade. The complicated part about this is that really this is when I kind of started having a bit of a liking to her. She is very smart, funny and just really nice. I started really knocking a light into me and thinking how wrong I was to kind of have feelings for her and I really try to distract myself from having feelings because I donā€™t know why these feelings just come out of nowhere. Like I made a promise that I would be honest with R but like how can I go through the same thing even if Iā€™m really being honest with her and then still get back lash still feel hurt and just it will just feel like a whole loop. Makes me think even worse because we even have summer plans for each other that we made and I just donā€™t know how to handle it. The only way I really coped with it was writing on a personal journal as like poems where I talked about having these feelings about N and not knowing what to do.
This month alone has made it stressful because of like all the tests and assignments before regions and even practice test that are graded in my classes are regents questions and studying has been a big thing for the whole week. Itā€™s been really getting to me in my head and itā€™s just been stressing me out. I havenā€™t been really giving myself a break with so many things in my head. It was until this week were I just felt really short with myself I felt stressed, angry, and very much overwhelmed. R really was talking me through it but I just was still overwhelming from the work that I had to do and yet I still have some what of a crush on N. I feel awful, but sometimes R was really stepping boundaries when I told her to just give me time to my self to think for myself. I Don want to be mad at her for it but I just really was This whole week I just wasnā€™t really feeling it. Legit, the day before I had a bit of a panic attack not a big one. What is one who won the only a few people can recognize really. it was in science class, and I just really wasnā€™t concentrating on the quiz that we had to do because I was overloaded with Tests and Quizzes left to right. My panic attacks as I said are not that noticeable vulnerable to some people. I usually shake a lot with my legs and with my hands and I start to get a little teary-eyed when Iā€™m just really stressed out in the panic attack. The worst part is that I would really be zoned out and not really hear anything around me besides, just my breathing. N was in that class and really the last thing I wanted was for her to look at me like Iā€™m a manic and even worse she was next to me while I was shaking. But then she actually approached me, and actually helped me out with an assignment since we could work as partners. I couldnā€™t really hear first few words since I was still just having a panic attack. I just heard her say that ā€œyou okā€ and ā€œdo you need helpā€. I agree for her to help me out with this assignment and she really did talk me out of the process of my panic attack. I apologized to her for seeing me panicking a bit. She totally understood and she just was glad that she could help me out. She really did help me out and I really thanked her for that. The same day I went to extra help for the science class since I had a test the next day. I went into the room and N was there and she gave me a really nice smile knowing that I was doing a little bit better on that day. After extra help, we walked out to the bus stop first we just really started talking to each other about our classes and even Drama too. I got a little nervous to stay with her on the bus stop a little bit longer since my bus was already there, I decided to leave her a little earlier and got on my bus to go home. Even though I felt better about myself coming home I still donā€™t know how I should feel about these feelings since that interaction just kind of made the crush I had for her grow more.
I know this is a lot and I just really donā€™t know what else to do. I feel actually lost with my feelings, and I donā€™t know what turns or anything to help me with this. I donā€™t wanna make a wrong move that would push anyone away and I just donā€™t want to hurt anyone. I know most answers are that Iā€™m a teenager and Iā€™m still developing feelings but I just either feel wrong or I legit donā€™t know what to do now. The whole reason why I post this is just a state as anonymous as I can to just reach out to people even if it means random people on the Internet. I will be keeping my boundaries even with the feelings I have and I wonā€™t really jump to any conclusions as I said, I donā€™t wanna make any wrong turn right now. If you have any suggestions, feel free to put your opinions or advice in the comments I will try to read as much as I can and even reply to them.
I donā€™t know how to end this but thank you for your time to read this post and I hope the rest of your day goes pretty smoothly. Iā€™ll be doing fine. I just need to keep myself in shape physically and mentally and try not to get this in the way of my school time. Thank you again.

2024.05.08 00:57 -AlienStarDust- [PC][1990s]: Educational ā€˜gameā€™ about drugs.

I am 99.99% sure this was on PC
Educational and interactive. It wasnā€™t a ā€˜game/gameā€™ with a plot and/or characters - more an interactive quiz that you progressed through?
I have no idea, however, it must have been in or around 2000. I remember vaguely playing it, or thinking/asking about it, in the ā€˜new houseā€™, which we moved into in 1999. Whether Iā€™d played it before then is anyoneā€™s guess (I was around 7/8ish). It could have been that I remember it from the house before, and wanted to find it again, or it was new to me in this house. I really donā€™t know.
Again, for this Iā€™m pretty clueless! Here is what I rememberā€¦, you had to catch floating donuts, and like little pill shapes? There was a fair amount of black and purples, it was perhaps a bit psychedelic? The voice over dude had a deep voice and for some reason I can remember that I liked how he said ā€˜barbituratesā€™. I KNOW this is barely anything to work with, but it wasnā€™t a game-game, I canā€™t describe the camera angle because there wasnā€™t one, if memory serves it was a floating through space type scenario. Oh! It might fall under a point-and-click style?
In short here, graphics art style = point and click, voidlike, purples, donuts, pill shapesā€¦. šŸ˜¬šŸ˜¬
Deep voice over? No characters in memory, not a game-game.
Was LARGELY education, if not mostly, about learning drug names, drug classes, maybe drug effects? There was some sort of progression system I think, or like maybe mini quizzes or something every now and then. Agh!
The donuts! The flying donuts and you had to click on them šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚
ā€” if anyone remembers an old school pc ā€˜gameā€™ about drugs in which you had to click on flying donuts and a cool voice said barbiturates in a memorable way then please help šŸ˜‚ oh and the colour purple is related? Maybeā€¦ šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

2024.05.07 17:19 Prudent_Rent5904 Pomoc prosĆm, tohle je anglicky a jestli tomu nerozumĆÅ” tak napiÅ” a jĆ” to poÅ”lu česky

Hello Iā€™m student of high school in second grade :) My school is aimed at robotics and we have project from my IT teacher that I need someone to do it for me. He gave us a big article that included more specific demands of project (I will put it down here) everyone in my class should choose some project and then they should programme it and present it in front of the whole class. Problem is that Iā€™m now on vacation and I donā€™t have my computer here and the deadline of the project is the exact day that that Iā€™m coming back home. Iā€™ve chose theme and the how the project should look and this is what I came with:
Basic Description: Runner In my final project, I would like to try creating a simple game called Runner. In the game Runner, the user will play as a character who jumps over skyscraper rooftops. Gaps will move towards the player, so the player will constantly be running. Their task will be to jump over as many gaps as possible and survive as long as they can.
Description of User Controls: The user will have very simple controls. They will have the option to jump, which will be used to leap over the gaps between skyscrapers. I would probably choose the space bar for jumping, as it is commonly used for jumping in most games. Additionally, they will have access to the "L" key, which stands for "leave" and will end the game and show the user their statistics to see how they performed. The results of the game will always be displayed in the console after a loss or when the game is exited.
-And hereā€™s the article with requirements from my teacher:
Create a program in the C programming language, demonstrating what you've learned. The program must include 75% of the topics listed below and they must be meaningfully utilized: - Bit operations - Structures - File handling - Dynamic memory allocation, pointers
Each student will have their own project assignment, which you will design yourself. The assignment is subject to approval by the instructor. A maximum of 2 identical assignments are allowed per class. If more students want the same assignment, priority will be given to those with lower IT grades. If a student cannot find a suitable assignment on their own, one will be assigned by the instructor. The assignment text must be submitted by the week of April 15th. The project can be a game, an educational program, a quiz, calculations of electrical quantities in circuits, etc.
You will work on the project individually. Every week, you will submit what you have worked on, which can include working on the project, documentation, or a presentation. After the final submission, you will receive 4 gradesā€”2 for the project, 1 for documentation, and 1 for the presentation.
Minimum project requirements: - In addition to the main function, the project must include at least one more function in separate files. - The project must use arrays or structures somewhere. - The project must include file operationsā€”reading and writing. - The project should be "foolproof," i.e., it should not freeze or crash when incorrect inputs are given.
The project should reflect at least 15 hours of student work by the end of the second year. The program should have about 550 lines. The length of one file must not exceed 250 lines. You can count the lines using the cloc program, available for download here.
In the project, adhere to naming conventions for variables, functions, etc. Use one language throughout the projectā€”either English or Czech. Exceptions for the use of Czech are predefined names like main, math.h, etc.
You will submit: - A. The assignment by April 21st, including: - a project title - a description of the program's purpose - a description of user interaction - a plan for how the project will be programmed, including functions, processes, etc. - B. Weekly submissions of your workā€”source codes, documentation, presentations. - C. By June 3rd, if applicable: - a complete, commented project compressed using ZIP - documentation in WORD or a similar text editor: - a description of operation and use - function samplesā€”not screenshots - a description of functions and their interconnections, including an UML diagram of at least one extensive function, usually main. - an evaluation of whether the assignment was met and suggestions for improvements or descriptions of additional features if the assignment was exceeded. - a presentation (in PowerPoint or a similar program) intended for projection, including: - an advertising section (at least 6 slides) - an expert section (at least 4 slides), showing interesting code snippets with descriptions.
-I just need the project in c and the basically everything that is programming, word and etc. will do myself

2024.05.05 23:38 Wild_Butterscotch977 Theylor: a collection of major evidence

Theylor: a collection of major evidence
Iā€™ve been eagerly awaiting the day someone makes a masterpost of theylor evidence but eventually I got tired of waiting and was too excited about the idea, so I decided to make it myself. I pulled together things I thought of myself and also culled information from past posts and comments that discussed it. Iā€™m interested in hearing what evidence people think should be added to this collection. I tried to credit things that I found from other posts, but please let me know if I missed something and Iā€™ll credit.
So first, what is theylor? Theylor is the theory that Taylor is gender expansive. Just like gaylor doesnā€™t necessarily prescribe what brand of queer taylor is, theylor doesnā€™t necessarily prescribe a specific gender identity. There are many possibilities including nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, transmasc, bigender, etc. Although I donā€™t argue for any specific label ā€“ because we donā€™t know ā€“ I do discuss quite a bit the idea of a masc or male side versus a femme or female side, because I think a lot of evidence suggests that.
A note on pronouns: I spent a while trying to decide if I should use they/them pronouns. It felt appropriate given that this is a theylor post, and as a nonbinary person myself who uses they/them pronouns, I kind of wanted to. But not all gender expansive people use they/them pronouns, and as I stated above, there are many categories and labels that she could fall under. Moreover, ā€œtheylorā€ isnā€™t the theory that she specifically uses they/them pronouns ā€“ itā€™s the theory that sheā€™s gender expansive, and that could include a variety of possibilities regarding pronouns. For instance, genderfluid and bigender people often switch back and forth between he/him and she/her or use both; some might additionally use they/them and some might not. Ultimately I took my cues from Taylor Nation who uses she/her pronouns for Taylor. As far as we know those are her stated pronouns and I chose to respect that.
Another important note: I want to say from the start that I fully recognize that some of this evidence can also be read as masc lesbian/wlw. Thatā€™s completely valid. But there are certain things that canā€™t fit so easily into that category. So I hope that skeptics will consider this with the same view that gaylors take with gaylor evidence: that certain things in isolation perhaps can be explained away, but the collective mountain of evidence is much harder to ignore.
Here we go.

Midnight Rain
On Midnight Rain Taylor synthed her voice so it sounds like itā€™s male, which alternates with her regular voice. This male voice is still singing from her POV, because they repeat the exact same chorus lyrics, so it doesnā€™t seem as if itā€™s intended to be an imitation of a duet involving two different people. Instead it sounds like the masc and femme sides of her are both chiming in.
The lyrics themselves can also be interpreted as theylor-coded.
He wanted a bride / I was making my own name / Chasing that fame
The hidden male side of her wanted to unite with the rest of her so she could be her authentic self, but she desired fame and to achieve all these dreams ā€“ and knew that to do so sheā€™d have to hide away that male or genderqueer part of herself.

Using men as mirror images of herself in music videos: Style, Willow, and Fortnight
Style mv
There could be an entire theylor post devoted to the Style mv alone because itā€™s so loud. It has some of the most explicit and extensive theylor evidence of any mv sheā€™s ever made.
Both Taylor and the male lead hold up mirrored shards to their face, and the other person is reflected back. For example, the man holds up a shard to his mouth and Taylorā€™s mouth appears instead. This suggests that they are two sides of the same person.
There are also several instances where her image gets cracked and fractured. In most of these sheā€™s alone; in the one scene where the man can be seen as well, theyā€™re not interacting and they look like theyā€™re in two separate places. The cracking of the surface of these images indicates that when theyā€™re separated, her true self is fractured, broken, and incomplete.
screenshots from Style: holding up mirrors and cracked images
Images of the man are superimposed on her face, hands, and body; and images of Taylor are superimposed on him as well. Thereā€™s a particularly interesting scene where we first see her face, and then she raises her hands so they cover her face, and the manā€™s face appears superimposed on her hands, echoing the mirror shard images.
In a similar vein, there are a couple different scenes where the man is looking out at the ocean from within her silhouetted body and head. In conjunction with the other scenes, this suggests the man lives within her.
One of the most explicit scenes is when the man is driving a car, and he looks in the rearview mirror and we see that itā€™s actually Taylor driving.
screenshots from Style: superimposed images and Taylothe man driving
Lastly, the actor playing the male, Dominic Sherwood, has heterochromia, which is when someone is born with two different eye colors. I think he was chosen for this role deliberately, and that the two eye colors might represent two different sides of her gender identity. This is supported by another scene where his eyes are superimposed on her outstretched arms, one on each side.
screenshots from Style: heterochromia
All these examples suggest that she and the man are the same person ā€“ male and female in the same body.

Willow mv
Willow contains a series of scenes where a man mirrors her in different ways.
First, Taylor looks into the water and sees a man reflected back where her own reflection should be. This is one of the clearest pieces of visual evidence in support of theylor, similar to the rearview mirror example in Style.
Willow mv: looking in the water and a man is her reflection
She plays with the child-male version of herself and then he disappears and sheā€™s sad and confused. Thereā€™s a great deal of evidence suggested in the following sections of references to her losing or being separated from her male side.
Willow screenshots: playing with the boy and then he disappears
There are multiple scenes where they hold their hands up to each other like they are mirror images, and then at the end they clasp hands and walk out together into the daylight.
Willow screenshots: holding her hand up to the man's and then they walk out together

Fortnight mv
The theory that Taylor and Post Malone are the same person was brilliantly covered by u/18hundreds in this post; she has his tattoos, they wear the same clothes, etc. However I disagree with that postā€™s conclusion that male figure represents the public Taylor, the clean version that she presents to the world. Rather, I think that Post Malone represents the male or masc side sheā€™s hiding.
One of the most important scenes is when Taylor is given pills from a bottle labeled ā€œFORGET HIMā€ and the bottle shows dates covering her whole life, from her birth to the date that the music video was published. Since it starts from birth, this certainly canā€™t represent forgetting a dude she dated. However I think it also canā€™t represent the public Taylor because there was no public Taylor the day she was born, nor was there for several years after that. However, if she sensed that she was born with a masc side or a male inside of her, and she was socialized to be and act like a girl, and instinctively understood that she had to hide that queer male part of herself, then the dates make more sense.
Additionally, the two streams of lesbian-flag and gay-flag colored light that float out of the two typewriters and become an explosion of white when they meet may represent both the masc and femme sides of her that are equally contributing to her work. When they are united, when she is whole, is when she is strongest.
Fortnight screenshots: Forget him pills and the streams of light
Lastly, thereā€™s a callback to the Style mv, where the sheets of paper are shaped like her silhouette and she and the masc version of herself are lying in the middle. This mirrors the Style scene where the man appears inside of her head.
Fortnight and Style screenshots that echo each other

Me! music video
Right at the line ā€œand thereā€™s a lot of lame guys out thereā€ there are several different men falling from the sky. Among them is Taylor. Credit for this is u/Front-Inevitable7767 here.
Taylor falling in Me!
The suit and hairstyle in one of the scenes is also extremely masculine:
Me! screenshot: taylor in a suit
Even more interestingly, she alternates masc and femme outfits in the mv, starting with ultra femme in the white skirt, then the masc yellow suit, then the femme pink dress, then the suit and shorts cowboy boots combination, and ending with the femme paint dress:
Alternating masc and femme outfits in Me!

You Need to Calm Down music video
One of the first scenes is of a framed painting with the quote, ā€œMom, I am a rich man.ā€ Though this is a Cher quote, itā€™s also extremely theylor-coded.
YNTCD screenshot: Mom I'm a rich man

Mean music video
In the Mean mv, Joey King is wearing a dress with a blue bow and isnā€™t accepted by all the other girls wearing pink bows. This might symbolize the masc side of Taylor not being accepted by society or in the music industry. There are many other ways that Taylor could have visualized a girl not fitting in with other girls. But she specifically distinguished them using only colors that are widely considered representation for the two binary genders.
Joey King in Mean and the blue and pink bows
In the mv for I Can See You, in the hall where Taylorā€™s old outfits are locked in glass closets, the young girlā€™s dress with the blue bow appears again:
Same dress in ICSY
This suggests that her masc side is closeted along with her gay side.

The Man
Both the song and mv. An entire work about if she was a man. Performed in full drag.
The use of ā€˜wasā€™ versus ā€˜wereā€™ in ā€œif I was a manā€ is interesting. Iā€™m not certain how much stock to put in this one because of the scene in Miss Americana where sheā€™s writing this line and she goes back and forth between them, seemingly based solely on how they sound. But they have two different usages in proper English grammar.
Sourcing from the grammar.com page on this, ā€œif I wasā€ is used when itā€™s a situation that could have happened. ā€œIf I wereā€ is used for a situation that could never happen, an imaginary scenario, something that couldnā€™t ever be true.
If you consider her to be cis, then sheā€™s using the wrong one. In that case it should have been ā€œif I were a manā€ because itā€™s an imaginary and hypothetical situation. But she used ā€œif I was a man,ā€ indicating a situation that could have happened.

Taylor Nation called her ā€œThe Manā€
TN calls her \"The Man\"

Delicate
Although Iā€™m trying to keep this whole post muse-free because muses arenā€™t all that relevant to theylor, I wanted to include this comparison between the Delicate scene where Taylor gets on the train to Diannaā€™s performance on The Killerā€™s mv for ā€œJust Another Girl,ā€ because I suspect this is being referenced based on the similarities. And most relevant to theylor: Dianna is in drag.
Taylor in Delicate and Dianna in drag in Just Another Girl

I Bet You Think About Me
There was a great analysis by u/Sea_Dress_8957 that the groom in the mv represents Taylor and her masc side, and that in the song sheā€™s talking to herself. I wonā€™t rehash the evidence thatā€™s already listed in that post, but one thing to add is in the mvā€™s opening scene with all the men lined up at the urinals, one of them is wearing a skirt, certainly implying gender nonconformity and possibly genderqueerness too.
This comment by u/SubwayGirlsInTheMan in that post also points out that the groom and The Man are wearing the same shoes, further connecting these two mvs, in addition to the halos around the groomā€™s head and the Manā€™s head.

Ready For It? and the two Taylors
In RFI, the two Taylors hold up their hands to each other, echoing the scenes in Willow with the man:
RFI screenshot that was echoed in Willow scenes
The two Taylors, which appear in more videos than just RFI, have been discussed a lot. They are usually taken to represent the public Taylor versus the private Taylor. But from a theylor perspective they can also symbolize the masc and femme sides of her, and her struggle to reconcile and unite the two. If Willow is visualizing that with the way their hands are held up to each other on either side of glass, then the fact that the two Taylors did the exact same motion in RFI is interesting.
The two Taylors also reminds me of the very gay, very masc outfit she wore as she exited the stadium after the Eras tour in Vegas. The vibe of the outfit is a stark contrast to the costumes in the tour and some of the outfits she wears on pap walks, and I always think of it when considering theylor.

The Joker and the Queen King
The lyric video for Ed Sheeranā€™s ā€œThe Joker and the Queenā€ shows Taylor wearing the kingā€™s crown.

Fearless TV cover
On the OG Fearless cover, Taylorā€™s wearing a white dress and looking to her right. But on the TV version, sheā€™s wearing a shirt that looks very similar to Romeoā€™s shirt in Love Story, and sheā€™s also looking in the opposite direction, to her left. By doing this sheā€™s rewriting the Fearless narrative to position herself as a man, Romeo, and creating a visual distinction from the very femme OG cover.
Fearless TV cover and Romeo

King
Phoebe Bridgers called Taylor ā€œkingā€ in an interview, then did it again on an Instagram story. Gracie Abrams also called her ā€œking.ā€ Note that Taylor also called Lana ā€œkingā€ which might take away from this theory but thereā€™s a lot of masc words being tossed around nonetheless.

ā€œA Girl Named Girlā€
As a 14 year old, Taylor wrote a novel called ā€œA Girl Named Girlā€ about a mother who wanted a son but got a daughter instead. Seemingly a whole book about gender and disappointing a parent.

US census comments
In 2020, Taylor made comments on a video where she was angry that the US census only had male and female options, saying how upsetting ā€œthe erasure of trans and nonbinary peopleā€ was to her. Video can be found at the 11:28 timestamp.

The male perspective
She writes and sings from the male perspective in a lot of songs, including betty, dorothea, Mine, Our song, Love Story, and Speak Now.

jaMEs
She wrote herself as James in betty (which gaylors were already confident about) and then she went and confirmed it during the TTPD clue hunt in lyrics by capitalizing ME in ā€œjaMEsā€ when there were other Mā€™s in the preceding words that she could have used instead.
jaMEs

Named after a man
She was named after James Taylor and likes to talk about that.

Sheā€™s the Heartbreak Prince
Sheā€™s the Heartbreak Prince. The lyric goes, ā€œItā€™s you and meā€¦Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince.ā€ In English, the order of the pronouns in the first clause reference the respective order of their subjects. So the ā€˜youā€™ is Miss Americana and the 'meā€ is the Heartbreak Prince.

Mandolin
She wrote an unreleased song around the age of 13 called ā€œMandolin,ā€ about a guy who plays the mandolin. It was written almost entirely in third person using he/him pronouns. But in the outro of the song she reveals sheā€™s the man when she says ā€œIā€™m the guy who plays the mandolin.ā€

Congressman in Anti-Hero
Sheā€™s a congressman, not a congresswoman.
Did you hear my covert narcissism / I disguised as altruism, like some kind of congressMAN.
The line actually would have been more balanced if she had used congresswoman because then it would have had the same number of syllables as both ā€œnarcissismā€ and ā€œaltruismā€ but she chose to use congressman instead.

Willow
There could also be a whole post analyzing Willow lyrics through a theylor lens.
The more that you say / The less I know / Wherever you stray I follow / I'm begging for you to take my hand / Wreck my plans / That's my man
The more her male side presents himself ā€“ the stronger he grows inside her head ā€“ the more confused she is about her identity. But she follows him anyway because thatā€™s the way her authentic self lies. She wants him to take her over, to embrace her queer self, and thus wreck all the plans she had for her career which require her to closet. Thatā€™s my man, she says. She says it exactly 13 times in the song.
The original voice memo of willow is very close to the final version, however thereā€™s an interesting change. The very last phrase in the song replaces ā€œthatā€™s my manā€ with ā€œthatā€™s my myth.ā€ This is at 3:33 in the linked video.
The definition of myth from wikipedia: ā€œMyth is a genre of folklore or theology consisting primarily of narratives that play a fundamental role in a society, such as foundational tales or origin myths.ā€
Her man is part of her origin story.
Now this is an open-shut case / Guess I should've known from the look on your face / Every bait and switch was a work of art
Now that her identity is clear to her, she realizes in retrospect that she should have seen it all along. She was an egg and now sheā€™s cracked. Every time her man surfaced to lure her in, ultimately made her who she is.

Dear Reader
So I wander through these nights / I prefer hiding in plain sight / My fourth drink in my hand / these desperate prayers of a cursed man
One of the clearest instances of her referring to herself as a man. And the statement is all the more stark and meaningful by existing in the same line as her telling us she hides in plain sight. Probably the most honest line in her entire oeuvre and she calls herself a man in it.
On the first night in Tokyo at the Eras tour, Dear Reader was one of the surprise songs. And in this performance she changed the lyric in this line to ā€œthese restless tears of a cursed man.ā€ Both gaylor- and theylor-coded. Tears because she canā€™t be her true self. The restless man wandering in the closet.

Cowboy Like Me
Calling herself a cowboy. I think this one is obvious.

Teardrops On My Guitar
And there he goes, so perfectly, the kind of flawless I wish I could be
Interesting that itā€™s the guy in the song that she wishes she could be like.

Tim McGraw
ā€œWhen you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think of meā€ is theylor-coded to begin with. When you think of a man, I hope you think about me.
But her original lyrics had a slightly different version of this line that makes the theylor of it all go even harder: ā€œWhen you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think meā€ (instead of ā€œhope you think OF meā€). This seems to take it to the next level: in the final version Tim McGraw reminds the muse of her, but in the original, sheā€™s actually standing in for him.
ā€œTim McGrawā€ was also interpolated into ā€œcowboy like meā€, thus connecting the songs.

The Story of Us
ā€œThe Story of Usā€ was referenced in the TTPD installation as a notebook with a huge ā€œUSā€ lettered on it. It turns out it was an easter egg (lol obv) because the same notebook appeared in the Fortnight mv. The original song may or may not have intended theylor clues, but in retrospect the lyrics seem quite coded, especially in light of the appearance in the Fortnight mv, which I theorized above was about two versions of herself, the male and the female.
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now / And we're not speaking and I'm dying to know / Is it killing you like it's killing me?
The story of ā€œusā€ is her male side having to be hidden away and closeted; thatā€™s her tragedy. Theyā€™re ā€œnot speakingā€ because she has to live separately from that part of herself.

Cardigan
Tried to change the ending / Peter losing Wendy, I / I knew you
I think sheā€™s both Peter and Wendy in this line, representing the two sides. Peter is alone in the closet while Wendy, her femme side, is exposed to the world. Peter is left behind because she canā€™t be her complete self.
This also fits perfectly with the song Peter.

Peter
ā€œPeterā€ seems to be a callback to the Cardigan reference. The whole song can be read through a theylor lens.
Forgive me, Peter /My lost fearless leader / In closets like cedar / Preserved from when we were just kids ā€¦ Said you were gonna grow up / Then you were gonna come find me
Peter is her male side that she had to hide away in a closet, specifically a cedar closet. Ceder closets are used to preserve clothes, because the smell that cedar wood gives off repels the bugs that eat holes in clothing. Sheā€™s had to keep that side of herself in the cedar closet so heā€™s preserved for later when theyā€™re at the point that they can be united.
The ā€œfearless leaderā€ phrase is also a callback to The Man, ā€œIā€™d be a fearless leader,ā€ which deepens the theylor connection.
Thereā€™ve also been some other analyses of Peter through a trans lens.

But Daddy I Love Him
BDILH has major theylor undertones. The entire song can be interpreted as a metaphor for wanting to others to accept a gender identity thatā€™s different from the one they think you should have.
The bridge is particularly coded:
God save the most judgmental creeps / Who say they want what's best for me / Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see / Thinking it can change the beat / Of my heart when he touches me / And counteract the chemistry / And undo the destiny / You ain't gotta pray for me / Me and my wild boy
This could refer to the desire to embrace her male side, her wild boy. That the idea of uniting with him and being her authentic self ā€“ her destiny ā€“ is what makes her heart beat. Them being together is, for her, the ultimate chemistry.

Down Bad
Similar to BDILH, Down Bad also is very theylor. Some select lines:
"What if I can't have him" / "I might just die, it would make no difference" / Down bad / waking up in blood / Staring at the sky, come back and pick me up / What if I can't have us
She feels like she might die if she canā€™t be with her male side.
They'll say I'm nuts if I talk about the existence of you
This line is particularly loud to me. What romantic interest (gay or straight) is so ridiculous that people say sheā€™s nuts for talking about that personā€™s very existence? It makes far more sense that sheā€™d think people think her nuts if she talks about a male or masc person who lives within her. Her twin.
Like I lost my twin / What if I can't have him
Similar to the above line, itā€™s a little odd to refer to a romantic interest as your twin. Not impossible, given sheā€™s likely dated three blonde women who all vaguely look like her, but combined with the other lines, I think this is theylor-coded. What if she can never be united with the male twin within her.
There might also be a twin connection in ā€œThe Albatrossā€, because male and female albatrosses are essentially identical. Credit for this is u/1DMod here.
I'll build you a fort on some planet / Where they can all understand it
Obviously queer-coded in general, but Iā€™d argue that being gender expansive today is less accepted than having a queer sexual orientation. Thereā€™s undoubtedly a significant number of homophobes who donā€™t like gay people, but there are massive quantities of people who flat out deny the existence altogether of trans and gender expansive people. So the idea of escaping to another planet where our identities are understood and accepted and normalized is very theylor-coded.
She also alternates saying ā€œFuck it if I canā€™t have usā€ and ā€œFuck it if I canā€™t have himā€ throughout the whole song. And she says ā€œif I canā€™t have himā€ 13 times throughout the song, similar to the way she says ā€œThatā€™s my manā€ 13 times in Willow.

Guilty as Sin
Another song I could do a whole theylor analysis on.
This cage was once just fine / Am I allowed to cry? / I dream of cracking locks / Throwing my life to the wolves / Or the ocean rocks / Crashing into him tonight / He's a paradox / I'm seeing visions, am I bad? / Or mad? Or wise?
The cage is her male side being closeted and the pain that entails. She dreams of breaking the lock on the cage and letting him out so they can be united, which would mean, she fears, tossing out everything sheā€™s worked for.
Itā€™s easy to see how having both a male and female side could be construed as a paradox. Wondering if sheā€™s crazy, if sheā€™s bad, or just wise are emotions that are common to people trying to figure out their gender identity.
Without ever touching his skin / How can I be guilty as sin?
Heā€™s not a person who she can touch. Heā€™s a person who lives within her. Struggling with religious guilt around this makes a lot of sense.

I Hate It Here
Tell me something awful / Like you are a poet trapped inside the body of a finance guy
This is both trans-coded and theylor-coded, the idea of being trapped in a body you donā€™t identify with, or feeling different on the inside than you present on the outside.

Orlando by Virginia Woolf
In this novel, the main character, Orlando, transitions genders. This amazing post by u/AliceStanleyJr discusses some of the Taylor connections. In the novel, Orlando wrote a book called ā€œThe Oak Treeā€; Taylor once compared her skin to oak tree bark, and she also performs Champagne Problems under an oak tree. Additionally, a comment by u/onemore_folkmore on that post pointed out that one of the Taymojis for ā€œTim McGraw'' is an acorn and underneath it says ā€œAcorns donā€™t grow on acorn trees, they grow on oak trees.ā€
Some of the taymoji's for Tim McGraw, including an acorn
There are other Virginia Woolf connections, like this post by u/PomegranateNo3155 which links a short story to the carnations line in Maroon.

thanK you aIMee
Iā€™m not sure who the first person to discover this was because I think I saw it on one of the megathreads, but u/-periwinkle reminded me that when you googled ā€œthank you aimeeā€ when the song first came out, the top result was a memorial page for the trans activist Aimee Stephens.

A Place in This World
A song about feeling alone, feeling different from others, and trying to figure out who she is. Itā€™s sad the way she repeats ā€œOh, Iā€™m just a girl,ā€ over and over, like sheā€™s forlorn to think of herself as just a girl.

Endgame
Big reputation, big reputation / Ooh, you and me, we'd be a big conversation, ah
If she came out as gender expansive, itā€™d be a HUGE conversation.
I wanna be your endgame / I wanna be your first string / I wanna be your A-Team
This could be read as the endgame to unite with her male side and finally be complete.

I Did Something Bad
There was a great post from an anon who did a transmasc analysis of IDSB and interpreted ā€œThey're burning all the witches even if you aren't oneā€ as Taylor saying sheā€™s not a witch, and thus not a woman, since she often uses witches as a metaphor for femininity. Thereā€™s a lot of other analysis so the whole post is worth reading.

I Think He Knows
I think he knows his hands around / A cold glass / Make me wanna know that body / Like it's mine
This could be interpreted as she wants to pretend she has a male body. It has similarities to the Teardrops On My Guitar line above.

Cosmo quiz
In the 2014 Cosmo quiz, she said, ā€œIf I were a boy for a day the first thing Iā€™d do is be the best boyfriend EVER.ā€ Definitely gaylor-coded but there are theylor overtones as well and is consistent with other evidence of her expressing jealousy towards men.

Acting Like a Boy
This is the name of an unreleased song that Taylor apparently wrote for Fearless.

Other Theylor posts
I wanted to close with links to some past theylor-related posts from this sub. If there are other good ones I missed, please let me know and Iā€™ll add them.

2024.05.05 10:35 Autotec20 Career Quiz Puzzle Thing?

I remember this website from when I was younger where you would take a pretest then go through this weird interactive lesson and take a quiz after.
One of them put you as a shoe designer and you would pick the design and materials for each part of the shoe and it would put the shoe on a robot leg that would stomp this test ground to make sure it held together.
Another one had you put metatags on songs and teach you about it through an online retailer website type thing.
And the last one I remember is like this information technology thing where you had to individually go through and calibrate these smart devices by figuring out a family's habits and correctly setting the device to set that, like set the fridge to order more carrots about when the family would run out of them.

2024.05.05 00:10 unlovelySara How would you describe the cards if they were real people?

Hello, everybody! I already skimmed through a few interesting threads about associating tarot cards (both Major and Minor Arcana) to fictional characters, but what if a card literally came alive and became a new, random person? Which card would it be and how would you describe it?
Iā€™m asking this because I finally found the courage to start working on an interactive novel where characters are based on tarot cards, and I have random ideas about the different personalities that Iā€™d like these characters to possess (f.e. every character would embody a card and its reversed version), but I just started to delve into tarot reading and Iā€™m curious to see what experienced people would come up with šŸ˜
Every character's storyline would also have different endings, each of them associated with a card, and Iā€™m also thinking on maybe implementing a little personality quiz at the beginning so the protagonist can also be linked to a specific card based on the player's choices... obviously using every card would be impossible, and thatā€™s also why Iā€™m asking some help to narrow things down.
Thanks to whoeverā€™s gonna help me! ā¤ļø

2024.05.04 15:36 spokenscreams My review of Natulang French

I decided to post an in depth review of Natulang here on /learnfrench because I have spent the last few months using Natulang for my French studies.
What I'm comparing Natulang to: I've studied various languages with college courses (both synchronous and asynchronous), The Critical Language Program- Spark, Anki, Duolingo, Memrise, Pimsleur, Michel Thomas, Language Transfer, TV5Monde, Coffee Break Languages, Tandem, hellotalk, and Beelingual.
A brief description of what Natulang is: Natulang is an AI audio based language learning app for iphone and ipad. My first impressions were that it was similar to Pimsleur or Coffee Break Languages where the lessons give you a framework for having more complex conversations as the lessons go on. However, I quickly learned that unlike other audio based courses, Natulang listens to your responses. This means that instead of having to self assess your speaking and hoping that you can both identify and remember weaknesses, the app does all of this for you. As 100% of the user input is spoken Natulang is really only teaching you to speak however, in my experience learning to speak helps with building the adjacent skills of listening, reading, and writing,
My review: Natulang starts out lessons by repeating words and then putting them together with vocabulary that it has taught you so you can form new sentences. I originally started using it because like most English speaking French learners, my French pronunciation was not great. I completed about 20 French lessons over the course of 2 months repeating each lesson at least 1 time and having some evenings that I was too busy to study. A handful of times I repeated a lesson a third time and on a few occasions I completed half a lesson one night and then just decided to restart it the next night. After the first few lessons a handful of things quickly stood out. I'm going to list these below as short paragraphs.
Accurate word identification and pronunciations: Between Duolingo and audio only lessons, I've spent a fair amount of time trying to work on my pronunciations. When studying both French and Russian I struggled with pronunciations as many words were not pronounced how they were spelled. However, Natulang identified more mispronounced and erroneous words than I was able to when I was using other methods. This helps a lot with the unique sounds from French that I struggled to master using college courses and other apps. One other area that makes Natulang shine is that you have your time to think and respond because the AI is listening and waiting. It's not like a podcast that will just continue playing the answer to a prompt if you do not interact. This means if you are working out or doing chores around the house and you hesitate for a second you won't have an answer to a prompt announced to you while you are still thinking. I personally use Natulang when I do the dishes and clean my kitchen. If I happen to hesitate or make a noise so I can't hear the app, it will ask me the question again instead of just trucking along without input from the Learner. It feels almost like having an extremely patient tutor in the room with you who will wait for responses to every prompt before giving you the answer. If you have a complex phrase and you make an error it will ask you about a particular word or two that may have not been correct before asking you to try the complex phrase again.
Objectively timed spaced repetition: While Anki also does spaced repetition there is the critical weakness that you are self evaluating each card. When I used Anki I remember there were times that I very harshly rated my recollection for a period and I felt like I was getting very few new cards. When I did the opposite (by rating my recollection too gently) I would feel like I was drowning in new words and I was covering too much material to master anything. Natulang instead has an AI that immediately detects if you have pronounced the words and/or form the sentence wrong. You'll get a chance to repeat the sentence and then later in the lesson and in the coming days be given a quick refresher where Natulang will quiz you on problem words and phrases from previous lessons.
Advantages over other AI apps: I have found a handful of AI apps that talk with you or have a short guided conversation but, finding ones that actually teach you is a different story. For each Natulang lesson there are a handful of words and phrases that are related concepts which mesh together. For example the lesson about getting to the airport talks about going by taxi, metro, or bus. It also teaches you to ask and say which is the cheaper way or which is the faster way. This reminds me of how many of the language courses that I took in college had themes that would help a student to understand a particular topic in another language. Natulang has the added caveat that as you learn new vocabulary you are getting to use it in a conversation immediately and getting immediate feedback. In this sense I feel like Natulang is less like an AI chat partner and might be better labeled as an AI language tutor.
Possible drawbacks: The only two areas that I can think of where Natulang may be considered deficient are teaching grammar and about the target language culture. However, the nature of audio lessons in general are focused on getting you speaking correctly as quickly as possible so grammar and culture aren't really the focus. If you are paying attention and looking at your screen during unfamiliar phrases you should be able to pick up on some grammar patterns even if they are not explicitly taught as part of the lessons. I will say though that Natulang has helped me to refresh/learn enough French words and phrases in a few weeks that I was able to ask for some advice on grammar (and learn a little French culture) from a co-worker who is French Canadian.
Overall thoughts: I think that Natulang is a huge leap forward for language learning apps. It builds on the ideas that other audio based programs have used and I think it's the fastest way to be able to have conversations in a language. Pairing Natulang with comprehensible input and some lessons on grammar seems like a well rounded way to learn a language quickly as it would help a learner with some of the other skill areas of language proficiency. In the next few years I think that weā€™re going to see Natulang and similar apps become the accepted best method for learning to speak a language quickly.

2024.05.04 05:50 JackLeopards ā€œWhy shouldnā€™t we hire you?ā€

TL;DR: Went through the interview gauntlet, dazzled them with my PowerPoint prowess, became a quiz master, and still got rejected because I couldn't convince them why they shouldn't hire me. Now questioning if my spider-sense for bad companies is just me being psychic or if I've developed a new allergy to absurd interview questions.
4 Stages Saas SDR role. Got to the final stage.
So there I was, ready to conquer the world (I was in the tallest building in London after all), or at least the small part of it that involved landing this SDR job. I had prepared a one hour presentation that was so good (why me, why sales?, why this company? Q&A), it could've easily been the eighth wonder of the modern world. I talked about myself, why I was drawn to the thrilling world of sales, and why this company was the missing puzzle piece in my professional life. I even went the extra mile, crafting a strategy for approaching a new logo, complete with research, email templates, and a follow-up cadence that would make any sales veteran weep with joy.
But wait, there's more! I ended my magnum opus with an interactive quiz. Yes, you heard that right. A quiz. Because nothing says "hire me" like turning your interview into a game show. The other interviewers were amazed, probably already picturing the company parties where I'd be the quiz master, bringing joy and light-hearted competition to the masses.
However, amidst this shower of competence and creativity, one question managed to stump me. "Why shouldn't we hire you?" asked the director, with a smile that suggested she had just outsmarted Einstein. Mind you, this was after I had laid bare my soul, highlighting my weaknesses with the finesse of a PR guru spinning a scandal into a tale of heroism. The other two interviewers, two managers, theirs smiles disappeared when this question was asked. They looked like children who just found out Santa wasnā€™t real.
I didn't stumble because I lacked an answer. Oh no. I stumbled because my brain refused to process the absurdity of the situation. Here I was, having just delivered what was essentially a love letter to the company, and they wanted me to argue against myself. It was like being asked to lead the charge and then shoot myself in the foot for good measure.
The director wasn't even paying much attention during my presentation, scoring embarrassingly low on the quiz. Yet, her question was the deal-breaker. It made me wonder if my spider-sense for bad companies was tingling not because of the question itself but because of the realization that I was in the presence of corporate insanity.
In the end, I was rejected, not because I lacked skills or enthusiasm, but because I couldn't properly articulate why they should let this golden opportunity slip through their fingers. It's like being told you're too healthy for a gym membership.
So, to the director who thought she had checkmated me, I say this: Your loss. I'll take my presentation skills, my strategic mind, and my quiz master talents elsewhere. Somewhere where the biggest concern isn't why they shouldn't hire me, but how quickly they can.
And to all my fellow job seekers out there, let this be a lesson: Sometimes, the only right answer to an absurd question is laughter. And maybe, just maybe, a well-timed exit.
Sorry for the rant. Wanted to get this off the chest. Thanks for reading.
