I realized while lurking this subreddit that many of newer GMs posting here may find themselves confused as to how to properly balance their combat encounters. This is wholly understandable as the book isn't exactly clear on the process. I thought I'd share my insight so as to help any prospective GMs design a clean and effective opfor.
Credentials: I've been GMing Lancer for ~3 years now and have run multiple successful campaigns to completion, both custom and on-module. I teach newbies how to play on the regular and have coached these same newbies to run their own combats sessions.
I will endeavor to make this guide as short as possible so as to be easy to reference. Feel free to reach out if you wanted clarification. Disclaimer: The following rules are my own method to encounter building, and while many other GMs in the community follow these rough guidelines you can expect everyone to have their own twist on it. Another GM you talk to will surely have tweaks on what I present here, but that's okay and honestly kind of cool. We all have our own signature method of playing this game and this happens to be mine!
Step 0: Nomenclature
A quick glossary of terms I'll be using frequently.
*OpFor: Stands for oppositional force. That means your entire collection of baddies used for a given combat encounter.
*Structure: The structure points for your NPCs. Normal NPCs have only 1 structure by default, but templates like Elite or Veteran can increase that.
*Activations: The number of times an individual NPC can take a turn during a round of combat. Most NPCs have only 1 activation by default, but templates like Elite or Ultra can increase that.
*Budget: The total number of NPCs you should be using for a combat encounter, based on how much Structure each individual NPC has.
Step 1: Pick a Sitrep/Budget
The first thing you need to do before you go any further is pick your Sitrep, starting at page 267 in the Core Rulebook. This is the objective that you and your players will be competing against each other to accomplish. Sitreps are an absolutely essential aspect of Lancer combat and the entire engine is designed around ensuring that you and your players have clear-cut goals with specific win conditions outlined. You can still have the occassional death match, if you're so inclined, but they should be infrequent to rare at best.
The Sitrep also determines your Budget. You'll note that each Sitrep descriptions says something like "Use the normal amount of enemies" or "Use double the amount of enemies as normal." This is what we like to call a "Single Budget" or a "Double Budget," respectively.
A Single Budget encounter should have enough total NPC Structure to equal 2x the number of players partaking in the combat. For example, if you have 4 players, you want the total Structure from all your NPCs to be 8. If you have 3 players, the total Structure from all NPCs should be 6.
A double budget encounter simply doubles that. 4 players would equal 16 total NPC Structure, 3 players would equal 12 total NPC structure, and so on. This includes reinforcements.
I'll make a comment below that lists which Sitreps have a Single Budget and which Sitreps have a Double Budget.
Step 2: Balancing Damage
It's entirely possible to do too much damage to your players. NPCs hit hard and you need to make sure they're not hitting so hard that your players don't have a chance to respond. Therefore, never have more than 50% of your OpFor be damage dealing NPCs.
The precise nature of a "damage dealing" NPC is up for interpretation. It is universally accepted that all Strikers and all Artillery archetypes are damage dealers. However, some Controllers and even Defenders fall into this category as well. Knowing who the black sheep of each archetype is comes with time and experience and every GM will tell you who they think is the biggest threat.
For now, stick to focusing on Strikers and Artillery until you get a better sense of who's who.
Step 3: Archetype Spread
In addition to having only 50% of your OpFor be damage dealers, make sure that the rest of the NPCs you're using have a healthy spread of different archetypes. You don't have to have one of each, as a rule, but if you're just starting out then that's at least a good guide rail to use until you're more comfortable experimenting.
Step 4: Don't Overdo Templates
One of the biggest mistakes I see new GMs make is to apply the Pirate Template to every single NPC in their OpFor. "But they're all pirates," they'll tell me, confused as to why their players had a miserable time going against +1d6 damage on crit from every single enemy.
Here's what the book doesn't tell you: Templates affect mechanics, not flavor. Only apply a Template to an NPC to give it the strict mechanical benefits that come with it and never for any other reason!
You can have an NPC be a pirate and not use the pirate template. In fact, you absolutely SHOULD have an NPC be a pirate without using the pirate template. The trick to this is to simply say "This guy is a pirate" and not do anything else. It's as easy as that.
Use Templates sparingly. If you're new, I wouldn't recommend using more than 1 per combat. Even now I don't really do more than 2-3, if that.
Step 5: Fair Deployment
Once you have your OpFor picked out and ready to roll, it's time to put them on the board. In an effort to not overwhelm your players but still have enough presence to apply a bit of pressure, only deploy enough NPCs so that their combined Activations equals 1.5x the number of players. For example, if you have 4 players, only have 6 activations on the board. That means 6 normal enemies, 4 normal enemies and an Elite, etc. I like to think of this as a Soft Cap for Activations.
The rest of your OpFor should be kept back as reinforcements. Follow the reinforcement rules of your chosen Sitrep to figure out when they should enter the fray, and how many.
Additionally, never have NPC activations exceed 2x the number of players. They will be overwhelmed very fast and nobody will have fun. Consider this a Hard Cap for Activations.
If you have reinforcements ready to go but you're already at the Soft Cap, you can bring more if the players are winning and you want to turn up the heat. If the players are losing, hold off and wait until they're in a better position. It's your job as GM to moderate the difficulty of combat based on active circumstances.
If you're already at Hard Cap, then no reinforcements get to enter the board yet. Wait until your players start scoring kills, the suckers.
The End
There's more nuance that goes into it than that, but this is a good starting point for anyone who just wants to wrap their heads around a complex system. As you get experienced, you'll start experimenting more with synergy, cross-classing, custom sitreps, and all kinds of crazy shit. The more experience you have, the more you'll be free to fuck around without breaking the game!

… or am I an idiot? We have small business in architectural services and this years has been really busy for us that we pivoted from spec homes (new builds) to custom builds. The reason from pivoting was not only that we got larger, and our fees changed. We also start to focus more on creating projects instead of running through jobsites. On top of it, I really hated every minute to deal with contractors & changes specifically for spec homes. The arrogance, the blame game… spec home services are always lower fees because we don’t have to (should not) deal with the custom clients nuances but we do anyway which makes it not worth it.
That being said we hoped that we can maintain a few contractor projects on the side for rainy days. Contractor1 was one of my first clients and biggest one who referred me to another Contractor2. One day C1 screamed in rage at me during phone call and made me cry. He never called to apologize & I haven’t spoke with him since. Projects are still in the process so it’s awkward.
Meanwhile the contractor2 keeps asking me to do stuff for him (as favor) and answer questions he should know as GC. He’s not even asking but telling me what to do like I am his employee while some tasks are his own responsibility. Because these annoyances with C2 have been pararell with issues with C1 , when the C2 asked me to do XY, I said I won’t do it and it’s his responsibility. He got passive (sort of aggressive) attitude and didn’t take it well…. He made it seem like me saying this, was a mistake (“now I know what you are about”). He doesn’t involve me on the projects anymore … yes he’s short.
Now these 2 contractors are not as important in my city and they only do their own spec projects….. but It kinda hurts to loose clients especially during project progress, first because I don’t know if they will ever say that they didn’t like working with me, second yes, it is personal….third, I am missing opportunity to photograph the projects in progress (likely credits). And lastly, my business is not thaaaat developed to loose the opportunity for more referrals.
Frankly, my history is being nice to people and do XY, until I am not. (Yes it can be a quick change). I usually prefer when I am left alone doing my work, and I don’t ask people for help or free favors either. I know time is money so if I do ask, I expect to discuss costs (Or at least I ask nicely, not like a dictator). And therefore I really really don’t like to hear from others what to do if it’s not included in my service agreement per flat fee and on top of it being shut down if I say no.
I don’t even know what I expect from this post. Somehow I feel insecure, somehow I feel I mean, somehow I feel reasonable and somehow I feel maybe they were right. There are people who could definitely handle this better without creating a conflict, and still keep the jobs. But I don’t know….

I am looking on other F2P games, who fighting for customes, and its insane how Dota or CS compete with LOL and other shooters.
And if football games is so good on monetisation why there no more competition from other developers, its easy money TBH.
Look at Tarkov, its was clearly monopoly for like 8 year, but now 2 more games exist and devs start doing changes, its good for everyone.
Maybe its true when ppl says football fans is special ppl idk :D

Imagine if you were able to create custom maps for Rainbow six siege and publish them for people in the community to play, now imagine being able to play those community made maps on a community ran server. Take CSGO for example, sure the game is fun on its own, but the community servers add a whole different layer to the game. Sometimes I get bored of playing CS official servers so I hop on a community server with custom maps. Just imagine the possibilities if Ubisoft added something like this. Is this something that even has a chance of being added at any point in the future?

We all know since Episode 2 came out, Jax has become extremely controversial. With some people even calling him evil. Jax is a bad person and definitely not someone you would like to know in real life, but is he really the heartless monster that people think he is? Eh- I don’t think so. As I said, he is a terrible person, Episode 2 confirmed that. But look at it from a video game perspective, which is what TADC really is (in the lore).
Throwing Pomni out of a moving truck: Perhaps in Jax’s perspective, that since they are now video game characters, they can’t die or be badly injured. Gooseworx confirmed that while they still feel pain, they don’t feel it as much as an ordinary human. Like with Kinger getting knives stuck in his head. Maybe a reason (other than being a dickhead) is because since it is all a video game, the damage is never lasting and Caine can just fix them up like he did with Ragatha.
Violence against the NPCs: Since the NPCs are obviously not real people, there would not be any real damage done (except emotional) Caine could just reset everything, like Ragatha says he sometimes reuses NPCs. It’s like when you play a video game. Some players just go around causing chaos, but it can always be reset.
Reaction to abstraction: He clearly has a different mindset on abstraction since it is the only real threat.
Since the world they live in is just a video game with only one threat, maybe it could have made him seem like a nihilistic sociopath, since no matter how much damage he does, it can be undone.

 | Hear me out. I've been a console gamer for most of my childhood and partly in my adulthood now a pc player. Growing up I loved playing halo odst like many and still to this day love it ( even have a odst sticker on my truck). I think if a collab is to ever happen with starship troopers or even predator like there is post suggesting, I think this should be one. ODST is already very similar to the point where they drop from ships in orbit in pods behind enemy lines and fight bugs,bots,etc. I mean come on, helljumpers and helldivers. It's basically goes hand and hand. I even have the whole deal on lock. The event rewards would be armor, helmet, cape and 2 weapons. Helmet and armor would be obviously the halo 3 Odst armor set. Cape can be the odst flag. Weapons would be the m6s suppressed magnum, and the m7s suppressed smg. Obviously we needs more pistols and smgs in the game! The event could be like a mini warbond and it takes medals to unlock or challenge based ( x amount of kills from smgs to unlock smg etc etc). For all the ideas floating around im surprised I haven't seen anyone post something like this before but I for one would really like to see this happen. I know helldivers isn't even on xbox but halo is now on pc so I feel it's more doable for that aspect. Maybe I'm wrong but this would be a great idea. Ik this isn’t really competitive but I want to know if this has happened too any one else.So the other day I bought the brawl pass and they charged me for it TWICE so I refunded ONE of the two charges (so I still paid for the pass which was the only thing I received) next day I get on and I have -4800 gems like what the fuck I’ve been playing this game since soft launch I’ve put so much time and money into this game and I don’t get it this is what they do too loyal fans I emailed the customer support 2 separate times and waited also messaged they’re stupid support bot which was no help. I honestly thought supercell was better than this I mean I get punishing ppl for cheating and stealing but I paid for what I got and did nothing wrong this is totally on them imo. But please tell me if I’m in the wrong I do honestly just wish I let them keep the extra 10$ cuz now it would cost me 200$+ too fix my account and I don’t have that kinda money. Does any one have any exp w what I should do it has really been killing my motivation too grind

So the other day I bought the brawl pass and they charged me for it TWICE so I refunded ONE of the two charges (so I still paid for the pass which was the only thing I received) next day I get on and I have -4800 gems like what the fuck I’ve been playing this game since soft launch I’ve put so much time and money into this game and I don’t get it this is what they do too loyal fans I emailed the customer support 2 separate times and waited also messaged they’re stupid support bot which was no help. I honestly thought supercell was better than this I mean I get punishing ppl for cheating and stealing but I paid for what I got and did nothing wrong this is totally on them imo. But please tell me if I’m in the wrong I do honestly just wish I let them keep the extra 10$ cuz now it would cost me 200$+ too fix my account and I don’t have that kinda money.

Hey yall, currently running a somewhat remixed version of abomination vaults for some close friends while also being a player in a separate group. We've been having a lot of fun so far in both groups, but one thing that comes up a lot is that there's a lot of "nothingburger" fights. We're using milestone leveling, and so as a GM, I've been removing or replacing some fights as needed.
For example, we're slowly exploring floor 3 right now, and I removed the>! violet fungus fight and replaced it with a plothook involving a buried alive osprey thieves guild member, and I made the Lurker in the Light an actual NPC the group can converse with and possibly recruit for the floor 4 voidgutton fight (who it hates with a burning passion). I also plan on replacing the wood golem fight on floor 3 because golem anti-magic has always been kinda unfun, and I have an excuse to shoehorn in a pesudo-crossover with another game I'm running in the same server via a volatile teleport spell, ending in a fight against a custom monster I made for that game (gotta get that testing data somehow...).!<

Summary of Features:
- ADB permissions SURVIVE a REBOOT. PC is only required for the initial installation.
- Change Headset Resolution.
- Change CPU level (0-5), set as static or dynamic.
- Change GPU level (0-5), set as static or dynamic.
- Change Fixed Foveated Rendering level (0-4), set as static or dynamic.
- Create detailed custom resolution profiles for games which can be selected to be AUTOMATICALLY applied to that application or game upon launching that application or game (like Quest Games Optimizer does).
- Backing up games, which includes the APK, OBB files if any, and data files and folders located in /sdcard/Android/data/.
- Restore game backups after moving them to your PC by using the included bat file in the backup folder.
- Restore game backups directly from the headset backup folder.
- Modify detailed recording settings such as bitrate, resolution, frame rate, rendering area, recording eye, with the option to save them to a custom recording profile which can be loaded for recording different applications and games.
- Invoke recording with STEREO AUDIO on the Quest 2 and Quest 3 (maybe Quest Pro?)!
- Video Editing. Because the Quest notoriously has problems with out of sync audio in it's recordings, you can adjust the audio offset and speed/tempo (stretching or compressing the audio) along with the start and end trimming of your video.
- Inject 3D metadata into your 3D recorded video making it ready to upload to YouTube.
- Set redirect/shortcut apps to launch apps from UNKNOWN SOURCES via the main menu so you don't have to go into the UNKNOWN SOURCES section.
- Set Start Up application, for example to launch a third party launcher upon reboot. On my Quest 3 I have my start up app set to Lightning Launcher.
- KIOSK MODE: Set an application to be the only application that can be launched and PREVENT the user from EXITING that application. This mode is password protected.
- Access Control Lists: Create a black list or a white list. Enabling one list disables the other.
- Web Server: for file sharing and uploading via http. You can select which folder you want to share over HTTP. You can also enable UPLOADING to your headset over HTTP. Both of these options are independent of each other.
- Install OVR Metrics Tool and display overlay performance statistics for performance evaluation of Game and Recording profiles.
- Install and launch SideQuest
- Install and launch F-Droid
