I've always wondered about this. On the one hand, Ibong Adarna obviously has a "Western" setting, and the word "Adarna" itself doesn't look like it comes from Philippine languages. But on the other hand, there doesn't seem to be a foreign story that could have served as its basis (If I remember correctly, Fansler and Eugenio identify tropes or themes in the Adarna story that are shared by foreign fairy tales but don't identify a specific story where it could have come from). Also, the Adarna shares common themes with Filipino epics. E.g., the hero's quest for multiple wives from different parts of the universe (underworld, skyworld, etc.). There are also other native/non-western elements like the dayap used by Don Juan to keep himself awake. The word "manusia" is also mentioned twice in the korido, which is interesting because it's a Malay/Sanskirt word for "man" that I don't think I've ever seen in Tagalog literature.
In my (wishful thinking) headcanon, the Ibong Adarna is a heavily Westernized version of an original but now lost Tagalog epic, haha. But that's just me.

Late on this whole thing but tbh I need to get these things out my head, especially since Raya was supposed to "present" my culture but ended up falling flat while Encanto actually pleased me
So for some context I'm Filipino, if you know the history of The Philippines it would be clear why I felt more for Encanto than Raya, though Raya actually did directly get inspiration from Filipino culture, it got drowned out by the rest of the Southeast Asian culture they merged it with, I don't see my culture in the movie, it doesn't feel like my culture but rather a culture of a neighboring country, Southeast Asia is a very diverse place, in The Philippines alone there's 180+ different ethnic groups, imagine how many more there is in the rest of Southeast Asia! Though we definitely have our similarities, we also have our differences and that shouldn't be ignored, instead of doing that, what happened was it all got merged together and that's just ridiculous
Then there's Encanto, though the movie was based on Colombian culture, it felt more alike to Filipino culture than Raya, the clothing, the architecture, the traditions, I saw more similarities there than Raya, obviously it still feels distinctly Latin American but really, it's just more similar, heck the title itself "Encanto" is already something Filipinos know but it's spelled as "Engkanto" for us while "Raya" on the other hand, I mean I could see someone in The Philippines having that name but it's very rare, a long with that, dragon legends aren't really that big in The Philippines, a mythical bird would've been better as bird legends are something most Filipinos know like Ibong Adarna
Along with that I've heard of other Southeast Asians who have the same view where they didn't feel the culture of Raya as their own and I guess that's why Encanto did well and Raya did not, Encanto was direct in what culture it was trying to present and had a following of people who could actually relate to it, Raya failed to do that by merging multiple cultures together into one and because of that nobody truly relates to the movie cause it feels more of a culture from a neighbor than their own
Raya was decent for what it was but not great for what it was supposed to be.
Edit: Ok some past movies did the same/similar mistakes, so yeah it isn't like the movie had no chance as soon as people found out it's culturally vague, there's other issues with Raya that I should've added in that likely contributed in it's downfall like how Raya didn't have songs like most Disney movies (unlike Encanto which had songs that reached people who didn't watch the movie) I've also heard some people complain that Raya also had issues with character development/build, we don't really get much with Raya's group unlike Mirabel's family (though debatable on some characters) I feel as a watcher you could even connect with the soldiers in Mulan better than any of those in Raya's group, heck those 3 soldiers were more memorable than Raya's own animal sidekick and I think a solution to that would have been something I heard some other people say where a smaller group would've been better in Raya so we could focus and build on those fewespecific characters more + they don't sacrifice the action based story for more screen time on each character
Moral of the story about "trusting people" was also badly executed, Raya has trusted people and what does she get? People die, including her father by being turned into statues! She trusts again and what does she get? Sisu's death and pretty much the end of the world! It's understandable why she wouldn't trust people but the movie keeps trying to push the message of "trust" while showing why you shouldn't trust Encanto on the other hand delivered their message of "generational trauma" much better
Also forgot to say, I actually liked the fight scenes.

I really really loved Fourth Wing and was looking forward to read Iron Flame. But I didn't enjoy IF as much as I wanted to.
So, please don't hate me but explain to me if and what I missed. When I saw that IF hase over 600 pants I was really excited, but in the end a little bit disappointed.

- I didn't understand why Xaden was so stubborn with his "just ask" things and why he wouldn't tell Violet stuff just because he wants her to know more about him and trust him. I thought that it was unfair when he got mad at him for not asking her stuff even though he wasn't telling her directly either. Maybe I did not understand a crucial aspect of all that?
- I really hoped that we would learn more about Adarna in this book. It was obvious that there was much more about her then her just being a young dragon. And I was really looking forward to read about it.
- Violet lightning powers. I guess in the end she did kinda control it but it really took lots of time. I thought she would improve faster and that we would learn more about her signet and its importance. Mostly I wanted to understand why exactly the venin are so interested in her and her abilities. And what I really don't understand is why she never told anyone, especially Xaden about her dreams. It felt like they were very important and as if she were having them for a reason. What do you think? Am I missing something?

This is all based around the fact that the dragons were clearly talking about V before she entered the quadrant.

Okay, so what if S lightly bonded with Violet when they first meet on Vi’s first day? We see S look over V closely. Maybe S took a chance to look through V’s mind/memories a bit to see why she’s so special (plus, her intentions, considering X is now to keep her safe for her first year).
We don’t see much from her until Threshing, when she joins to watch over V, and calls Tairn.
I think S went to scope out this important human, and after seeing her put her life on the line, decides that the human is worthy for her mate to die for.
But after that, we see S slowly get annoyed with V. Especially by Iron Flame. They don’t talk.
Yes, V almost got them all killed, and she keeps doing it. And clearly doesn’t care as much about living, if it saves everyone, forgetting that Tairn will follow her to death.
But if they’re slightly bonded… we somewhat have a knowledge that V’s thoughts are LOUD. Maybe S is getting annoyed with V because she CONSTANTLY sends thoughts through the light bond between the 2 of them. At first, it was cute and important. And now, S is trying to hide that a bond was created in the beginning (even if not marked on her skin), and is hoping if she keeps distance, that it will fade.

I get the feeling that Tairn doesn’t like C. Maybe it’s cause C is more powerful than Tairn, or maybe C is Tairn’s dad? Not sure.
BUT, I was thinking, how did the rebellion know they were going to die? Yes, they knew they were probably going to fail, but to have the plan enacted before the last battle? With the runes to protect in the future?
Sharing memories is bad, but what if that’s exactly what C did? He shared Melgren’s vision of the battle, and made sure there were plans for Gen 2.
We see V talking to C, and although C doesn’t play nice, at the end, he does do as she says. He would be the elder, as head of the den, and would be very much aware of V and whatever prophesy. He would have been discussing V 2 years before she joined the rider’s quadrant! Which means, he very much is on the rebellion’s side, and is trying to help.
We only ever see V talking to dragons that are on the rebellion side. The green dragons, one of them bonds with Rhi, are likely for the rebellion.
So let’s say each den has made a decision. The black, blue and green are def on the rebellion side. Adarna’s on the rebellion, but only the den leaders know. So that leaves the oranges, who are clearly more on the venin side, or on the “we don’t want to get involved” side. I don’t know enough about the reds and browns, but maybe they’re more neutral but still on the “not getting involved”?
The ones on the side of the rebellion absolutely want V to live to the end, and they respect her. Although she’s breaking rules left, right and centre, she cares more for dragon kind that many of the other dragons. Therefore, those dragons are more open to communicating with her?
Idk, half thought out thoughts.

(WARNING: very long post ahead)
As promised, here's the continuation (or I guess the prequel) ng post ko last time:
Kids, did I ever tell you the story of how I met my fiancee?
HAHAHA joke lang. But yeah, since my last post went well over 100 upvotes, I guess I owe you all a story. As I'm typing this, it's 3 am in the morning and I can hear my fiancee- still can't believe I get to call her that, not gf- snoring sa kwarto namin. She's a snorer pag from duty siya, but don't tell her that, she'll deny it. hahaha.
We first met when we were 12, and she was 13. Mas maaga siyang mag birthday kaysa sakin, but we were in the same grade. Speaking of, I think I should give her a name. Not her real one syempre. How about Yor? I'm naming her after her favorite anime character right now. That sounds good. So anyway, Yor and I, we go way back. Parehas kaming new students sa high school namin, and yung hs namin sa province, sobrang konti lang ng inaaccept na new students, so 5 lang kami sa batch nun. Napilitan kaming 5 new students na mag-interact, and she was one of my friends nun. According to her, she hated me daw the first time we met. Feel niya ang yabang ko raw, kasi wala pa kong uniform nung first day, and, in her own words, "bida-bida ka magsuot".
Anyway, naging friends naman din kami around a month afterwards. May play sa school and napilitan kaming magwork as partners kasi understudy kami ng lead actoactress nun, respectively. Sa Ibong Adarna to, so I played Don Juan, she was Donya Maria. Turns out marami kaming shared interests, like sa anime, teleserye na uso pa nun, and video games.
Ever since then, we were best friends. Sa 5 people namin nun, sa kanya talaga ako pinaka-close. I considered her as my sister nun (as I'm an only child sa fam, as I mentioned in my last post). It helped din na naging kumare ng nanay ko nanay niya. So minsan pag weekends pumupunta siya sa amin, and habang nagcchismisan sila mama, Yor and I would go sa sala at manood ng anime or maglaro ng Mortal Kombat. Life was simple back then.
Throughout nung high school namin, lagi kaming inaasar. Everyone assumed na we were dating nun. But we just laughed it off, kasi we know na if nagpa-affect kami masyado lalo kaming aasarin. During high school, I really just saw her as a friend nun. Mostly kasi I'm an idiot and I didn't really thought much about love and dating. I'd rather stick to my manga and video games. I was a huge dork nun. According to her, Yor started having a crush on me back then. No one knew, kahit yung ibang best friends namin. But since she was shy, she kept this a secret.
College rolled around, and both of us enrolled in the same university, just different colleges. Nagkahiwa-hiwalay na kaming magbabarkada, but we still kept in touch. I grew even closer to Yor nun kasi parehas kami ng university (different courses lang) and di naman sobrang layo ng dorm niya sa akin. I kept teasing her nun, kasi I know na a lot of guys were starting to take interest sa kanya. Whether sa klase niya, or sa mga barkada ko at college na gustong magpareto. As her male best friend, I was always a little wary pag may pumoporma sa kanya, but not from jealousy. I genuinely thought nun na ayoko lang siyang masaktan, as her friend.
I starting dating around na rin- as most of us did din siguro- nung college. None of them I could say na I loved. We'd date for a while, I find them attractive, I like them, but in the end it always doesn't work out. I always find that laging may kulang. Not necessarily sa girl, but sa relationship namin. Parang yung puso ko mismo ang nagsasabi ng "this isn't it". I don't know din why. Laging kulang.
Nung debut niya, ako yung 2nd to the last rose sa 18 roses (last being her father syempre). Nung sumasayaw kami, I teased her nun. "Kaw ah, bat ako last dance mo aside kay tito? Di mo naman ako boyfriend ah." I remember her smiling and saying, "Wala pa kong boyfriend eh, if meron malamang hindi ikaw sinasayaw ko ngayon. Unless if gusto mo."
I think it's the first time we- sort of- flirted. And I have to admit, that's the first time na naopen talaga sakin yung possibility. Na my best friend just, just might be more than bff material? But I decided not to pursue her. It wouldn't be right. Best friends kami, hanggang dun lang yun. I'm sure na-friendzone na niya ko a long time ago. There's no way na gusto niya rin ako if nagkagusto ako sa kanya.
(So yeah, as you can see, teenage me really was an idiot and super dense hahahaha)
A really significant, tragic life event happened when we were 20 years old, Sadly, Yor's mom passed away due to an aneurysm. It was sudden, no one saw it coming kasi huling bisita ko sa province malakas pa si tita. Everyone was devastated. Yor took it hard, sobra. Sinamahan ko siya pauwi sa province nun, and I was by her side the whole time. She couldn't stay kasi she had to finish her college internship. I was with her for the bus ride back to the city, and when her classmates pm'ed me na di siya pumapasok for a few days, I checked in on her sa dorm niya.
I could still remember that day. She was normally a neat person, but everything sa room niya was in a disarray. Her roommates tried to clean up as best they can and offer support, but they have different schedules than her so most of the time mag-isa lang talaga siya. She just looked so awful. So I did what I thought as her best friend should do. I just stayed there, and distracted her by telling stupid stories and corny na jokes. I didn't offer her any sage advice or words of encouragement, kasi I know she already got more than enough from the funeral. I know when she's sad, she wants to be distracted by something funny, so I pulled up my phone and searched for memes sa facebook. Funny videos. Funny vids ko nung lasing ako, stuff my friends recorded nung lasing ako. It took forever, but I made her smile by the end of the night. She said the first words I heard her say since after the funeral. "Thank you. Kasi lagi kang nandyan."
For the next few weeks, my life kind of went on like that. Every time tapos na school ko, I'd stop by sa dorm niya (by the way pala, nasa list ako ng visitors so nakakapasok ako- apparently her dad signed me into it) and just stay there. Mag-aaral ako with her, or magkwentuhan lang. Then pag curfew na (even if nasa list of visitors ako, there was a curfew hanggang kailan lang pwede ang male visitors aside from family), I'd go back sa dorm ko. Slowly, she came back. Her family helped din, they visited whenever they could. And then, before we knew it, she graduated.
Seeing her hurt and vulnerable like that, it just made me realize something. Parang may nag-click lang sa utak ko. I acknowledged that desire within me, the desire na ayoko siyang makitang nasasaktan like this. I want to be with her. I want to be with her through the good times and the bad times and the times in-between. I realized nun na kaya pala yung mga previous landi and dates ko did not work, kasi subconsciously, I kept comparing them to her. No person has yet matched her sense of humor, her wit, her ability to see the silver lining in every single bad situation. Yor can almost read my mind, lagi niyang alam if badtrip ako or if may tinatago ako and she always encourages me to open up. I always felt at ease, talking to her. Na parang di ko kailangang magpaka best face/foot forward when I'm around her. I never realized my best friend can be my soulmate as well.
So ayan, nung graduate na kami, I finally admitted to myself na mahal ko siya. More than a best friend. But it's been only months since her mother passed away so ayoko munang bulabugin ang mundo niya. I wanna give her space. And I gotta tell you people, ito yung pinakamahirap na parte ng buhay ko, mas mahirap pa kesa sa solo thesis defense ko nung college, hahaha. Hanging out with her as best friends while suppressing the urge to just say ano nararamdaman ko sa kanya, even if nanggigigil na kong umamin. Ya boi's in love HAHAHA.
Finally, on October 7 (diba kabisado pa date HAHAHA), kumakain kami nun sa Mcdo sa trinoma after seeing a movie, we were just chatting, when suddenly, Yor told me na I'm not being myself lately. I asked her bakit naman, and she told me na "I'm your best friend, malamang alam ko yan." And as far as I can remember, the rest of our convo went like this:
"Sabagay. Best friend mo ko, alam mo lahat sakin."
"Oo. Kahit na minsan ayaw mo pang sabihin, nalalaman ko na. Pinaparamdam mo kasi."
I remembered staring at her for a long time nun.
Then I asked her, "Kailan mo pa alam?"
"Matagal na. But especially after nung mawala si mama. Ang caring mo nun, sobra."
"Hindi lang ba ako 'to?"
Naalala ko, ngumiti siya nun. "No, hindi lang ikaw."
That was the day we confessed our feelings for each other. A year after that, sinagot niya ko. Boto si tito sakin thankfully- ang bilin lang niya samin nun is wag daw muna sana kami mag-anak until naging doktora na siya. My parents, sobrang boto rin sa amin- especially mom ko. She told me dati nun na even before pa naging kami, may kutob na siya na magiging daughter-in-law niya si Yor hahaha.
I wouldn't say na smooth sailing ang relationship namin- there are hints of jealousy here and there, especially if naiuungkat niya yung past ko (kasi while I dated around for a bit nun, she never did talaga until me.) But nothing that can't be fixed with reassurance. We were together ever since I started working, and she finished her med school and pgi.
Then naalala ko three years ago, I was at a low point in my life kasi I got kicked out of my job. I started becoming insecure with myself more kasi di ko na siya malibre, mahatid-sundo like I used to. I started thinking na baka there are better guys out there. Baka yung mga co-residents niya sa ospital (resident na siya at this point) nagkaka-interes na rin sa kanya, inaantay nalang kaming magbreak. We got into a fight nun and didn't speak for weeks, until a mutual friend of ours knocked some sense into me. I was reminded na kung mahal ko talaga siya, I'll make sure na ka-deserve deserve *ako* para sa kanya. So I picked myself up and started job hunting again, and I contacted Yor again and begged for her forgiveness. I apologized for giving in sa mga insecurities ko nun. And amazingly, she took me back. I was job hunting and she was just starting out her residency nun, and this was the pandemic na so grabe dasal ko nun na wag sana siya magka-covid. Di naman, awa ng Diyos.
And that's it so far. That's our story. I probably summarized too much especially sa dulo, and she'd probably put in a lot more dito if she can, but a dokie's life is very busy, so y'all have to trust me na wala akong namiss out na importanteng portion hahaha. Pero that's pretty much it. Tsaka ang haba na masyado, ayoko na kayo ibore so much hahaha. I started writing this kaninang madaling araw, I just finished ngayon after a long day at work hahahha.
We started out as best friends, who eventually realized na we're compatible and complement each other, and we really couldn't imagine anyone else na jojowain but us. I think matagal na naming mahal ang isa't isa, it just took a while for us to find out. Like I said, slow burn.
With Yor, I realized na love isn't meant to be a wildfire, it's not meant to be a whirlwind. You're not supposed to burn for the person. Love isn't a natural disaster, but a comforting place. Love should feel like the first cup of coffee in the morning, and the blanket hugging you before going to bed. Love should feel like home.

As I'm typing this, it's 3 am in the morning and I can hear my fiancee- still can't believe I get to call her that, not gf- snoring sa kwarto namin. She's a snorer pag from duty siya, but don't tell her that, she'll deny it. hahaha.
We first met when we were 12, and she was 13. Mas maaga siyang mag birthday kaysa sakin, but we were in the same grade. Speaking of, I think I should give her a name. Not her real one syempre. How about Yor? I'm naming her after her favorite anime character right now. That sounds good. So anyway, Yor and I, we go way back. Parehas kaming new students sa high school namin, and yung hs namin sa province, sobrang konti lang ng inaaccept na new students, so 5 lang kami sa batch nun. Napilitan kaming 5 new students na mag-interact, and she was one of my friends nun. According to her, she hated me daw the first time we met. Feel niya ang yabang ko raw, kasi wala pa kong uniform nung first day, and, in her own words, "bida-bida ka magsuot".
Anyway, naging friends naman din kami around a month afterwards. May play sa school and napilitan kaming magwork as partners kasi understudy kami ng lead actoactress nun, respectively. Sa Ibong Adarna to, so I played Don Juan, she was Donya Maria. Turns out marami kaming shared interests, like sa anime, teleserye na uso pa nun, and video games.
Ever since then, we were best friends. Sa 5 people namin nun, sa kanya talaga ako pinaka-close. I considered her as my sister nun (as I'm an only child sa fam, as I mentioned in my last post). It helped din na naging kumare ng nanay ko nanay niya. So minsan pag weekends pumupunta siya sa amin, and habang nagcchismisan sila mama, Yor and I would go sa sala at manood ng anime or maglaro ng Mortal Kombat. Life was simple back then.
Throughout nung high school namin, lagi kaming inaasar. Everyone assumed na we were dating nun. But we just laughed it off, kasi we know na if nagpa-affect kami masyado lalo kaming aasarin. During high school, I really just saw her as a friend nun. Mostly kasi I'm an idiot and I didn't really thought much about love and dating. I'd rather stick to my manga and video games. I was a huge dork nun. According to her, Yor started having a crush on me back then. No one knew, kahit yung ibang best friends namin. But since she was shy, she kept this a secret.
College rolled around, and both of us enrolled in the same university, just different colleges. Nagkahiwa-hiwalay na kaming magbabarkada, but we still kept in touch. I grew even closer to Yor nun kasi parehas kami ng university (different courses lang) and di naman sobrang layo ng dorm niya sa akin. I kept teasing her nun, kasi I know na a lot of guys were starting to take interest sa kanya. Whether sa klase niya, or sa mga barkada ko at college na gustong magpareto. As her male best friend, I was always a little wary pag may pumoporma sa kanya, but not from jealousy. I genuinely thought nun na ayoko lang siyang masaktan, as her friend.
I starting dating around na rin- as most of us did din siguro- nung college. None of them I could say na I loved. We'd date for a while, I find them attractive, I like them, but in the end it always doesn't work out. I always find that laging may kulang. Not necessarily sa girl, but sa relationship namin. Parang yung puso ko mismo ang nagsasabi ng "this isn't it". I don't know din why. Laging kulang.
Nung debut niya, ako yung 2nd to the last rose sa 18 roses (last being her father syempre). Nung sumasayaw kami, I teased her nun. "Kaw ah, bat ako last dance mo aside kay tito? Di mo naman ako boyfriend ah." I remember her smiling and saying, "Wala pa kong boyfriend eh, if meron malamang hindi ikaw sinasayaw ko ngayon. Unless if gusto mo."
I think it's the first time we- sort of- flirted. And I have to admit, that's the first time na naopen talaga sakin yung possibility. Na my best friend just, just might be more than bff material? But I decided not to pursue her. It wouldn't be right. Best friends kami, hanggang dun lang yun. I'm sure na-friendzone na niya ko a long time ago. There's no way na gusto niya rin ako if nagkagusto ako sa kanya.
(So yeah, as you can see, teenage me really was an idiot and super dense hahahaha)
A really significant, tragic life event happened when we were 20 years old, Sadly, Yor's mom passed away due to an aneurysm. It was sudden, no one saw it coming kasi huling bisita ko sa province malakas pa si tita. Everyone was devastated. Yor took it hard, sobra. Sinamahan ko siya pauwi sa province nun, and I was by her side the whole time. She couldn't stay kasi she had to finish her college internship. I was with her for the bus ride back to the city, and when her classmates pm'ed me na di siya pumapasok for a few days, I checked in on her sa dorm niya.
I could still remember that day. She was normally a neat person, but everything sa room niya was in a disarray. Her roommates tried to clean up as best they can and offer support, but they have different schedules than her so most of the time mag-isa lang talaga siya. She just looked so awful. So I did what I thought as her best friend should do. I just stayed there, and distracted her by telling stupid stories and corny na jokes. I didn't offer her any sage advice or words of encouragement, kasi I know she already got more than enough from the funeral. I know when she's sad, she wants to be distracted by something funny, so I pulled up my phone and searched for memes sa facebook. Funny videos. Funny vids ko nung lasing ako, stuff my friends recorded nung lasing ako. It took forever, but I made her smile by the end of the night. She said the first words I heard her say since after the funeral. "Thank you. Kasi lagi kang nandyan."
For the next few weeks, my life kind of went on like that. Every time tapos na school ko, I'd stop by sa dorm niya (by the way pala, nasa list ako ng visitors so nakakapasok ako- apparently her dad signed me into it) and just stay there. Mag-aaral ako with her, or magkwentuhan lang. Then pag curfew na (even if nasa list of visitors ako, there was a curfew hanggang kailan lang pwede ang male visitors aside from family), I'd go back sa dorm ko. Slowly, she came back. Her family helped din, they visited whenever they could. And then, before we knew it, she graduated.
Seeing her hurt and vulnerable like that, it just made me realize something. Parang may nag-click lang sa utak ko. I acknowledged that desire within me, the desire na ayoko siyang makitang nasasaktan like this. I want to be with her. I want to be with her through the good times and the bad times and the times in-between. I realized nun na kaya pala yung mga previous landi and dates ko did not work, kasi subconsciously, I kept comparing them to her. No person has yet matched her sense of humor, her wit, her ability to see the silver lining in every single bad situation. Yor can almost read my mind, lagi niyang alam if badtrip ako or if may tinatago ako and she always encourages me to open up. I always felt at ease, talking to her. Na parang di ko kailangang magpaka best face/foot forward when I'm around her. I never realized my best friend can be my soulmate as well.
So ayan, nung graduate na kami, I finally admitted to myself na mahal ko siya. More than a best friend. But it's been only months since her mother passed away so ayoko munang bulabugin ang mundo niya. I wanna give her space. And I gotta tell you people, ito yung pinakamahirap na parte ng buhay ko, mas mahirap pa kesa sa solo thesis defense ko nung college, hahaha. Hanging out with her as best friends while suppressing the urge to just say ano nararamdaman ko sa kanya, even if nanggigigil na kong umamin. Ya boi's in love HAHAHA.
Finally, on October 7 (diba kabisado pa date HAHAHA), kumakain kami nun sa Mcdo sa trinoma after seeing a movie, we were just chatting, when suddenly, Yor told me na I'm not being myself lately. I asked her bakit naman, and she told me na "I'm your best friend, malamang alam ko yan." And as far as I can remember, the rest of our convo went like this:
"Sabagay. Best friend mo ko, alam mo lahat sakin."
"Oo. Kahit na minsan ayaw mo pang sabihin, nalalaman ko na. Pinaparamdam mo kasi."
I remembered staring at her for a long time nun.
Then I asked her, "Kailan mo pa alam?"
"Matagal na. But especially after nung mawala si mama. Ang caring mo nun, sobra."
"Hindi lang ba ako 'to?"
Naalala ko, ngumiti siya nun. "No, hindi lang ikaw."
That was the day we confessed our feelings for each other. A year after that, sinagot niya ko. Boto si tito sakin thankfully- ang bilin lang niya samin nun is wag daw muna sana kami mag-anak until naging doktora na siya. My parents, sobrang boto rin sa amin- especially mom ko. She told me dati nun na even before pa naging kami, may kutob na siya na magiging daughter-in-law niya si Yor hahaha.
I wouldn't say na smooth sailing ang relationship namin- there are hints of jealousy here and there, especially if naiuungkat niya yung past ko (kasi while I dated around for a bit nun, she never did talaga until me.) But nothing that can't be fixed with reassurance. We were together ever since I started working, and she finished her med school and pgi.
Then naalala ko three years ago, I was at a low point in my life kasi I got kicked out of my job. I started becoming insecure with myself more kasi di ko na siya malibre, mahatid-sundo like I used to. I started thinking na baka there are better guys out there. Baka yung mga co-residents niya sa ospital (resident na siya at this point) nagkaka-interes na rin sa kanya, inaantay nalang kaming magbreak. We got into a fight nun and didn't speak for weeks, until a mutual friend of ours knocked some sense into me. I was reminded na kung mahal ko talaga siya, I'll make sure na ka-deserve deserve *ako* para sa kanya. So I picked myself up and started job hunting again, and I contacted Yor again and begged for her forgiveness. I apologized for giving in sa mga insecurities ko nun. And amazingly, she took me back. I was job hunting and she was just starting out her residency nun, and this was the pandemic na so grabe dasal ko nun na wag sana siya magka-covid. Di naman, awa ng Diyos.
And that's it so far. That's our story. I probably summarized too much especially sa dulo, and she'd probably put in a lot more dito if she can, but a dokie's life is very busy, so y'all have to trust me na wala akong namiss out na importanteng portion hahaha. Pero that's pretty much it. Tsaka ang haba na masyado, ayoko na kayo ibore so much hahaha. I started writing this kaninang madaling araw, I just finished ngayon after a long day at work hahahha.
We started out as best friends, who eventually realized na we're compatible and complement each other, and we really couldn't imagine anyone else na jojowain but us. I think matagal na naming mahal ang isa't isa, it just took a while for us to find out. Like I said, slow burn.
With Yor, I realized na love isn't meant to be a wildfire, it's not meant to be a whirlwind. You're not supposed to burn for the person. Love isn't a natural disaster, but a comforting place. Love should feel like the first cup of coffee in the morning, and the blanket hugging you before going to bed. Love should feel like home.

STEM is my preferred strand because I'm highly confident in my Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and Abstract Thinking skills (also quite enjoy math).
ABM is my second preferred strand because I have experience in managing a small business and I'm quite good with computers, plus I'm especially great at utilizing Excel. I semi-manage one of my family's business and provide all the excel worksheets needed. Once I created somewhat of a POS system inside Excel using VBA coding.
Mechanical Engineering is what I hope my career to be. Programmer, if MechEng doesn't work out.
I honestly would like to go ABM to further learn business management, but having a stable MechEng career seems like a much safer bet.
I already wrote my autobiography. I did it as straightforward and monotone as possible, with a lot of confidence displayed (that I'm hoping will not be mistaken as arrogance). I went on about why I want to be in ADMU SHS, my skills (like what I did above), my social abilities, what I want to be in the future, my hobbies/personality.
This autobiography is written in a very monotone way, much like how this post looks like (but more sophisticated grammar, and overall more refined). My parents advised me to make it sound lively and makulit. I hated the idea of that but had to consider it since I don't know if there's a "meta" on writing autobiographies, what do you think?
Right now, my first term marks are doing fine. Notable ones are Math at 92%+, Science at 95%, and CompEd at 100%. The rest are mid 80s. Except Fil and Eng, they're in the low 80s; I absolutely hate FnL, Ibong Adarna, El Fili, TKAM, Odysseus, and the likes. I'm trying to make up for my average grades the past years.
I find most subjects right now to be fairly easy, especially Math, Sci, and CompEd; while Fil and Eng is quite a bit hard because of the books. I'm under little to no academic stress at all since grade 7 honestly.
I unfortunately got a somewhat low GPA/QPI in Grade 9, only 3.41. Most final marks were B's, there were no C's. In Grade 8 my marks were average, nothing too high and nothing too low.
I did the mistake of slacking off during Grades 8 and 9, the years of online classes. By slacking off, I mean in Grade 9 I would settle for a 60% in Math Cerebry tasks, which made up a significant part of the term marks, and proceed to 100% ace all tests and assessments to balance it all out to a decent grade.

Marina’s floral pattern resembles the sofa cover you’d usually see at vintage (?, just old) houses.
57:18 – “She looks like a tsismosang kapitbahay.” Karen to Viñas’s runway
“Tsimosang kapitbahay” basically means “that (usually female) neighbor who always gossips”. Usually in the morning, when she exits her house to gather the latest neighborhood tsismis (tea) from fellow tsismosas (gossipers), she’s still dressed in nightwear.
57:36 – “Nakaka-tulle-lala.” Pia to Brigiding’s runway
A play on “nakakatulala” (something you want to stare at for a long time) and “tulle”.
57:42 – “She looks like she’s newly tulle-le.” Pao to Brigiding’s runway
“Tule” means circumcision. Pao basically jokes that Brigs look like she’s newly circumcised. Both a play on the word “tulle” and the fact that Brigs is wearing a skirt, which some boys temporarily wear when newly circumcised (if a skirt is too girly for them, then they wear loose shorts).
1:13:16 – “Bring back my beauconeras.” - Pao
“Beaucon” is a shortened form of “beauty contest” or pageants. Adding “-era” to a word means a female person who does that thing. (ex. Kusinera, from “kusina” which means kitchen. This means a female person who cooks).
1:13:27 – “Major major.” - Pao
A reference to Venus Raj’s answer in the Q&A portion of the 2010 Miss Universe. The question was “What is one big mistake that you’ve done in your life?” Her answer was "You know what, sir, in my 22 years of existence I can say that there's nothing major, major problem that I've done in my life because I'm very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So thank you so much that I'm here. Thank you, thank you so much!"
1:17:15 – “Ate, sandali” (Sis, wait!) by Maris Racal as the Lipsync song
Nothing but a BOP. I think this is Maris’s biggest hit yet. It became an anthem for women whose boyfriends (and relationship with them) are complicated. More than that, Maris is basically saying in the song that “sis” is better off without him.
1:18:29 – “... sa hinulugang Taktak.” - Pao’s addition to his version of “Don’t fuck it up.”
Will also include this in the Glossary, but basically Pao simply mentioned this because it rhymed. Hinulugang Taktak is a waterfall located in the city of Antipolo in the province of Rizal. I don’t believe it has any relevance to the previous additions (“sapak/punch”, “tadyak/kick”, “talak/rant”). Again, we love a pun even if it’s hardly connected.

- Acquired system: subconscious learning (like children, inductive)
- Learning system: formal instruction (the rules come first, deductive)

- Input hypothesis: natural acquisition requires target-language input one step above current competence

Hi guys! I made a full list of the cultural references of Southeast Asia from the teaser alone along with questions that I need answers for. I’m Malaysian, so do note there are other SEA countries I’m not familiar with so I need SEAns to come and point out anything I missed out and correct any mistakes. Thanks to those who helped me before..
(Be sure to look out this symbol *UPDATE* especially for returning readers so I hope its easy to spot.)
- Her Armadillo friend, Tuk Tuk. Is named after the taxi-motorcycle hybrid in Thailand and he serves as Raya’s vehicle. That’s genius if you ask me.
- The martial arts and the weapon (double sticks) are from the Philippines, called the Arnis, Kali, or Eskrima. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnis With the speculation that the man Raya fought with is her father, the Arnis fighting techniques are taught by fathers to their children. An inherited martial art.

The wavy sword that passed down to Raya actually has multiple names but to my heritage it’s known as the Keris https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris . The Keris dagger is used during the Majapahit Empire through the Austronesian part of SEA. From Java, Indonesia to Melaka and other regions in Malaysia, to Sulu and Mindanao and Southern Philippines.Do note that the sword is much wider and longer, and it’s hilt is much different than a traditional keris. Hence some pointed out that it resembles the Kalis, a Filipino double edged sword with wavy edges that’s similar to a keris. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalis The sword itself may be a mix of these said regions.
- As for the stone people in the desert. This is just a speculation, we have many folktales of people turning to stone. Most notably in Malaysia, we have a creature that’s called Sang Kelembai, a giant that curses animals and humans to stone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sang_Kelembai
In Philippines, there's a magical bird called Ibong Adarna, it is said in it's tale https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibong_Adarna : The bird sang and lulled the prince of the story to sleep. Then later pooped (yes, you read that right) on the sleeping prince which turned to stone.
They are also doing the Wai gesture. Commonly known in Thailand. Also exists in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. The gestures are used for greetings, expressing gratitude and apologies. That seems interesting to know whether if they are really humans that turned to stones and had a mystery for us to find or simply statues from a torn down place.
In Malaysia and Indonesia, it is known as Naga. The influence derived to any countries who have the background of Hinduism and Buddhism since long ago the Majapahit, Srivijaya, Ayutthaya and Khmer empire are influenced by it. It's also written in Mahabharata. Naga (or Phaya Naga in Lao) is almost everywhere in the temples in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laotian since the myth said that the Naga is living in the country who have Mekong river on it.
Interesting find of the Naga in Cambodia, it consists of Seven Heads. They represent the seven races within the Naga society. Depicted as guardian statues, carved as balustrades on causeways leading to main Cambodian temple

There are debates of which country this mask is based on, most mentioned: Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia.
Let’s see the Thai influences:
\* It bears resemblances to the Thai Yaksha. Known in Buddhist mythology, they are the giant guardian warriors who keep away evil and can be seen at the temples in Thailand. There are paint strokes at the eyelids and wrinkles on the forehead. As I said with Raya's weapon is a mixture of different regions, same goes for the mask. Along with the speculation that man is Raya's mentor, sums up the idea that the Guardian of the Dragon Gem represents the unity of the nations.

- The sarong, judging from the Bokator uniform (you can take a closer look at the teaser, 0:22), this could be the silk that can be found in the Indochinese Peninsula. Silks like Thai and Laos silk (I would like someone to give me a better description about these silks and how it’s different from another)

Unfortunately, we can’t take a closer look to truly see the textures and motifs. Some debated that it’s the Songket which the textures are much rough and gritty.
The Songket is part of the brocade family of textiles of the Malay world (found in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and Southern Thailand). The debate is still in session, if we can truly see the texture and motifs. Then it’ll answer our questions since every textiles of the empires has its own motif designs and materials used to craft their textiles.

From her SEA area studies, the Yellow and Purple clan are taken inspiration from Maritime Southeast Asia. The Grey and White from Mainland Southeast Asia. Do note that it's from her studies, not mine. As some in my list below stated some differences.

- The colour yellow for Malaysia and Brunei, is the colour of royalty. Also used in the flags of the respective countries.
It is also the most common colour to obtain natural dye ingredients in SEA such as Kunyit (Tumeric), Cempedak (Jackfruit), Mango leaf and bark and Kayu Kuning (Cockspur Thorn)

While I haven't yet discovered the staple ingredients that were used at SEA in the past. The local ingredients are proven to be able to produce purple dyes such as Ube (Purple sweet potato) and red cabbage. Bunga Raya *hint hint* (Hibiscus) can produce reddish purple dyes. While the shells of mangosteen actually produce black dyes.

- Elephants are seen behind the tribe. There are War Elephants used in battles like the Burmese - Siamese War. The conflict between the Konbaung dynasty of Burma (Myanmar) and the Ban Phlu Luang Dynasty of Siam (Thailand).
The motif of the elephant's tusk even their colours are on their clothing and banners.

The Basics
- Raya’s name in Indonesian & Malaysian means “Great”. Like Indonesia’s national anthem is “Indonesia Raya” which means “Great Indonesia”. In Thai, it means "Frill or Swag". In Sanskrit it means “King” / “Prince”.- Her Armadillo friend, Tuk Tuk. Is named after the taxi-motorcycle hybrid in Thailand and he serves as Raya’s vehicle. That’s genius if you ask me.
- The martial arts and the weapon (double sticks) are from the Philippines, called the Arnis, Kali, or Eskrima. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnis With the speculation that the man Raya fought with is her father, the Arnis fighting techniques are taught by fathers to their children. An inherited martial art.

The wavy sword that passed down to Raya actually has multiple names but to my heritage it’s known as the Keris https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris . The Keris dagger is used during the Majapahit Empire through the Austronesian part of SEA. From Java, Indonesia to Melaka and other regions in Malaysia, to Sulu and Mindanao and Southern Philippines.Do note that the sword is much wider and longer, and it’s hilt is much different than a traditional keris. - As for the stone people in the desert. This is just a speculation, we have many folktales of people turning to stone. Most notably in Malaysia, we have a creature that’s called Sang Kelembai, a giant that curses animals and humans to stone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sang_Kelembai
In Philippines, there's a magical bird called Ibong Adarna, it is said in it's tale https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibong_Adarna : The bird sang and lulled the prince of the story to sleep. Then later pooped (yes, you read that right) on the sleeping prince which turned to stone.
They are also doing the Wai gesture. Commonly known in Thailand. Also exists in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. The gestures are used for greetings, expressing gratitude and apologies. That seems interesting to know whether if they are really humans that turned to stones and had a mystery for us to find or simply statues from a torn down place.
Run down on the dragons of SEA
In Filipino mythology, there’s a water dragon called Bakunawa. Known as the Moon Eating Dragon. The influence derived to any countries who have the background of Hinduism and Buddhism since long ago the Majapahit, Srivijaya, Ayutthaya and Khmer empire are influenced by it. It's also written in Mahabharata. Naga (or Phaya Naga in Lao) is almost everywhere in the temples in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laotian since the myth said that the Naga is living in the country who have Mekong river on it.
Interesting find of the Naga in Cambodia, it consists of Seven Heads. They represent the seven races within the Naga society. Depicted as guardian statues, carved as balustrades on causeways leading to main Cambodian temple

\* It bears resemblances to the Thai Yaksha. Known in Buddhist mythology, they are the giant guardian warriors who keep away evil and can be seen at the temples in Thailand. There are paint strokes at the eyelids and wrinkles on the forehead. As I said with Raya's weapon is a mixture of different regions, same goes for the mask. Along with the speculation that man is Raya's mentor, sums up the idea that the Guardian of the Dragon Gem represents the unity of the nations.

- The sarong, judging from the Bokator uniform (you can take a closer look at the teaser, 0:22), this could be the silk that can be found in the Indochinese Peninsula. Silks like Thai and Laos silk (I would like someone to give me a better description about these silks and how it’s different from another)

Unfortunately, we can’t take a closer look to truly see the textures and motifs. Some debated that it’s the Songket which the textures are much rough and gritty.
The Songket is part of the brocade family of textiles of the Malay world (found in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and Southern Thailand). The debate is still in session, if we can truly see the texture and motifs. Then it’ll answer our questions since every textiles of the empires has its own motif designs and materials used to craft their textiles.

- The design of the conical shaped hat she wore is worn in most regions of SEA, and goes by different names from specific regions. Vietnam = Non La. Philippines = Salakot. As for the beads. In Sarawak, East Malaysia (Borneo) there are traditional crafting with beads from the indigenous people of Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu. - The colour yellow for Malaysia and Brunei, is the colour of royalty. Also used in the flags of the respective countries.
It is also the most common colour to obtain natural dye ingredients in SEA such as Kunyit (Tumeric), Cempedak (Jackfruit), Mango leaf and bark and Kayu Kuning (Cockspur Thorn)

- THE PURPLE DEBATE!! There have been people commenting about the usage of purple dyes in the past, especially the famous fact that purple textiles are difficult to obtain and only European royals wore them. Some said the SEA obtain the natural ingredients to make purple and taken away by colonisers. There is no solid / discovered evidence for this because in fact, the Royal Purple that we know of were extracted by sea snails from the Mediterranean Sea.While I haven't yet discovered the staple ingredients that were used at SEA in the past. - Weapons: Notably the only group that uses battle axes. The closest I can find is the Chipan / Jipan, found in both Indonesia and Malaysia.
