I’m prolife but something I see often (and agree with) is that by making the choice to have consensual sex, that is the stage when women also consent to pregnancy and birth should that sex (protected or otherwise result in a baby). You’re a mother from conception.
Yet what I don’t see a lot of is as the man when you make the choice to have consensual sex is the stage when you consent to be a father. To financially AND emotionally raise that baby.
Women can’t avoid the biological burden (and gift) that is pregnancy and birth. It’s hard and it can’t be offloaded to men.
Likewise raising a human being isn’t easy and the father shouldn’t offload their role either.
I’d go further and say you owe the mother of your child marriage. You’re both making sacrifices for the baby that you consented to create.
I’m new to this sub but I’ve already seen a lot of comments shaming women who use the poor behaviour of the fathers as reason to abort. “You should’ve thought about that before you had sex with him”. Why isn’t that applied to men? “If she wasn’t an ideal wife/mother you should’ve thought about that before you had sex with her”.
These thoughts were directly inspired by a post here from a while ago about an awful teenage boy who wanted to run from his responsibilities as a father but decried abortion. The mother also wanted him to live with her for her to continue the pregnancy. There were a lot of comments telling him off but also many saying to do it until after the baby is born and then dip. Not just abandon the mother but the baby too! How can you care so much about the life of the baby whilst it’s in utero but care nothing post birth!?
I think this also points to a larger problem and reason for prolific abortions. If in the event of a surprise pregnancy more men said “listen I love you, I love our baby. I will always be here for you and will do my best to provide for you and our child. I will marry you so you have the security you deserve as the mother of my child” I think there would be a lot less abortions.

This reflects a profound truth that we must understand if we are to create a better world.
Governments and politicians are not capable of solving the problems of humankind because they are not equipped to address the root causes of these problems. They are often limited by their own self-interest, bureaucratic processes, and the influence of powerful interest groups. They may be able to provide short-term solutions or band-aid fixes, but they are incapable of providing long-term solutions that address the underlying issues.
For example, if we look at the problem of poverty, governments can provide aid programs and social safety nets to alleviate the suffering of those who are poor. However, these programs do not address the root causes of poverty, such as income inequality, lack of access to education and healthcare, and systemic barriers to economic mobility. Without addressing these underlying issues, poverty will persist, and government aid programs will only provide temporary relief.

What is Gestational diabetes ?
For women without a history of diabetes, gestational diabetes is a form of the diabetes that can develop during pregnancy. After the baby is born, gestational diabetes typically disappears. If your doctor advises differently, it's crucial to get a follow-up glucose tolerance test six to twelve months after the baby is born or before attempting a second pregnancy to ensure you are no longer diabetic.You can increase the likelihood of a successful pregnancy and healthy baby by controlling your gestational diabetes.
Who is susceptible to gestational diabetes?
The prevalence of gestational diabetes in pregnant women ranges from 3% to 8%. In most cases, it is discovered between 24 and 28 weeks, though it might appear earlier. What side effects can insulin cause?
There may be adverse effects from human insulin. Inform your physician in the event that any of these symptoms worsen or persist:

• Skin redness
• Swelling

• Constipation
• Weight gain

So as the title says I got fired from Nike after working there for 4 months and their reasons were rubbish.
I started working there beginning of April 2023 and they terminated my contract beginning of August 2023.
Nike has KPIs such has how many shoes we sold to customers also how many people we could get them to sign up as members to Nike.com and extra bonus getting people to download the Nike app.
During my time there the hardest thing to do was to convince people to download the Nike app you were suppose to get at least 3 people per day to download it and I was getting between 5-6 per day. I was also getting many people to sign up to Nike as member (a legit way many employees were doing it behind customers backs to get their numbers up) Anyways I was one of the highest performing on my floor from the newbies group. I also entered a design competition for football boots which I had only three days to work on I won third place world wide second place in the UK.
When I started my job I told them from the beginning that I have a few medical conditions that would cause me to take a break or needing to sit down from time to time. I have chronic back pains and I suffer from PCOS which causes me to have MAJOR pains so I can’t stand for too long. Bare in mind these traits are protected under the equality act 2010
If they’re willing to adapt to my needs I don’t need to take sick leave unless it’s quite bad. They accepted this and gave me a contract.
I then fell pregnant unexpectedly beginning of June which lead for me taking sick leave throughout my time. As I was really physically poor
Now in addition to this Nike work conditions are horrible! Their stores are over heating there is no air conditioning, no windows, they have really strong lights that could literally cause an epileptic stroke they force you to stand in front of the lights if you move you get a warning. The health and safety hazards at that place were crazy I could go on forever.
I kept complaining that the working conditions were horrible summer is here and we were suffering a lot. The overheating caused frequent heat exhaustion. They were not accommodating to my needs and were not being nice about my pregnancy they did not perform a health and safety assessment nor did they advise me what I needed to do next.
Instead came August for my final review they fired me based on performance when it was utter bullshit I did the best on my floor! They didn’t like I have a strong leading personality and I was very vocal about the issues the store had. I believe they fired me because I was pregnant knowing that I would have to go maternity leave under their care. I did try to overturn their decision but they said they made the right decision.
What do you guys think? What can I do ? I wanted to go to the tribunal but because I was so ill for a while by the time I spoke to ACAS but they said it was too late. I honestly think I could of won this at the tribunal

Kansas

Despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have allowed abortion restrictions in the state, Kansas Republicans passed several anti-abortion bills into law late last month, overriding the governor’s veto.
The first bill, HB 2436, makes it a crime to “coerce” someone into having an abortion. Democrats attempted to widen the scope of the bill to include all kinds of reproductive coercion, like pressuring someone to become or stay pregnant and prohibiting their access to birth control, and enshrine a right to “reproductive autonomy.” Republicans voted down the amendment.
The second bill, HB 2749, requires medical facilities and providers to (1) ask patients their reason for having an abortion and (2) report the data, including personal information about the patient, to the legislature every other year. Gov. Laura Kelly (D) agreed with the objections of Democrats and reproductive rights advocates, saying when she vetoed the bill that there is “no valid reason to force a woman to disclose to the legislature why she is seeking an abortion.”

• Democrats offered numerous amendments to HB 2749, including one to require men to report to the legislature their reasons for having a vasectomy and another requiring men to report why they are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction. Republicans rejected all of them.

Finally, the Republican legislature overrode Kelly’s line-item veto allocating $2 million to the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, created last year with a different veto override. The program is run by an anti-abortion group called the Kansas Pregnancy Care Network, which refers pregnant people to crisis pregnancy centers designed to use misleading information to discourage them from obtaining an abortion.

Louisiana

Louisiana’s legislature is doubling down on its anti-abortion laws, passing bills to increase criminalization and refusing to add exemptions to its abortion ban.
Earlier this month, the Louisiana House took up a bill passed by the Senate that would make it a crime, punishable by jail time, to possess abortion-inducing medication. SB 276, sponsored by 23 Republicans and one Democrat, was initially written to create a punishment for coercing someone into an abortion without their knowledge or consent (e.g. spiking a drink). However, House legislators recently added an amendment to the bill that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV substances alongside some opioids and benzodiazepines. A pregnant person possessing the drugs for their own use could not be charged, but others who intend to distribute them to pregnant people seeking an abortion or store them for their own potential future use would face up to ten years in prison.

“Neither is a drug of abuse or dependence, and that is what the controlled drug schedule is for,” said [emergency room Dr. Jennifer] Avegno of the abortion drugs. “It makes no scientific or medical sense to put these drugs in the same category as Xanax or Valium.”
Mifepristone is a drug that blocks a hormone called progesterone, which is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions, causing the body to expel the pregnancy tissue. Mifepristone is also used to treat Cushing’s disease, a hormonal disorder. Misoprostol is also used to induce labor, manage a miscarriage and in the treatment of ulcers. Neither are addictive. “People do not go around taking them and getting dependent and having bad outcomes because of it,” said Avegno. “It’s like saying your blood pressure medicine or insulin is a drug of abuse.”

A week later, Republicans on the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 7-4 to reject a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state’s total abortion ban. House Bill 164, written by Democratic Rep. Delisha Boyd, would have allowed girls younger than 17 to have abortions if they became pregnant as the result of sexual assault.

“That baby [in the womb] is innocent … We have to hang on to that,” said committee member Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, who voted against the bill. Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Spring, also voted against the legislation, saying the proposed law would be difficult to enforce. Teenagers who had consensual sex might feign rape or incest in order to get access to abortion services, she suggested…
Dr. Neelima Sukhavasi, a Baton Rouge doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, also implored the lawmakers to approve Boyd’s proposal. She and her colleagues have delivered babies for pregnant teenagers, including mothers as young as 13, since Louisiana’s abortion ban went into effect two years ago. These young pregnant people can experience health complications that affect them for the rest of their lives, Sukhavasi said, and sometimes don’t have the mental capacity to handle the births. “One of these teenagers delivered a baby while clutching a teddy bear,” she told the committee.

The Committee also killed three other bills: HB 56, to allow abortions in cases of spontaneous miscarriage or nonviable pregnancy; HB 63, to clarify that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion under state law; HB 293, to add protection for physicians who do not intend to induce abortion by prescribing certain medications.

Texas

Meanwhile, in Texas—a state that pioneered the war on women and reproductive rights—a man initiated legal action to sue people who helped his former partner obtain an out-of-state abortion.
The man, Collin Davis, filed a petition in a state district court seeking permission to launch legal depositions to collect evidence for a potential lawsuit under a Texas law that contains civil liability for anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion. According to his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell (who crafted the anti-abortion law), Davis is seeking to sue “co-conspirators and accomplices…involved in the murder of [his] unborn child.”

“Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” he wrote. “They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.”
Molly Duane, a senior staff attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights, described Mitchell’s statement and general approach as misleading “fearmongering.”
“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion,” said Duane, who is working with lawyers from the firm Arnold & Porter to represent the woman and others targeted in the Davis case. “I don’t want people to be intimidated, but they should be outraged and alarmed.” Duane described the woman’s relationship with Davis as “toxic and harmful.”

Mitchell also represents a different man who pursued a similar claim last year: Marcus Silva engaged Mitchell to sue the friends of his estranged wife for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills. Evidence later revealed that Silva knew about the plans beforehand and did not intervene, likely intending to use the threat of legal action as a way of forcing his partner to halt divorce proceedings.

Monday’s counterclaim illustrates, in painstaking detail, exactly how Silva—aided by Mitchell—allegedly deployed this tactic. It was only after Brittni’s abortion was complete that Silva revealed he knew about the plan and, according to the lawsuit, threatened to turn her in if she didn’t submit to his continued abuse. He even showed the police photographs of messages discussing the possibility of an abortion. “Once I finally got home with the girls he had been drinking and he told me that he knew,” Brittni texted one friend. “He’s using it against me.” In another message, she wrote, “Now he’s saying if I don’t give him my ‘mind body and soul’ until the end of the divorce, which he’s going to drag out, he’s going to make sure I go to jail for doing it.” […]
The counterclaim points out another flaw in his argument: Silva himself “is responsible for the alleged injury for which he seeks to recover.” He “knew that Brittni planned to terminate her alleged pregnancy and acquiesced in accepting Brittni’s actions,” so “it would be unconscionable to permit him to benefit by changing his position now.” His claims, in short, are barred “by unclean hands,” because he effectively entrapped his estranged wife—covertly discovering her plan to terminate the pregnancy, then allowing her to go through with it for the express purpose of blackmailing her into staying with him.

Indiana

A three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals last month unanimously recognized a religious freedom challenge to the state’s complete ban on abortion.
The case, brought by Hoosier Jews for Choice and four anonymous women of various faiths, alleges that the ban interferes with “their sincere religious beliefs that require and direct them to obtain abortions” criminalized since the law took effect in 2023. According to Jewish law, a fetus does not have personhood until birth, and abortion is required if the pregnancy endangers the life or health of the mother.

Brief of Hoosier Jews for Choice (and other plaintiffs): As indicated by the declarations of numerous rabbis, Judaism teaches that a fetus becomes a living person only at birth, and prior to that is considered part of the woman’s body, without independent rights. Abortion should occur and is mandated to end a pregnancy that may cause serious consequences to a woman’s mental or physical heath. Judaism also recognizes that physical health risks are not limited to those likely to cause substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Judaism stresses the necessity of protecting the physical and mental health of the woman—a life—over the potential for life present in a zygote, embryo, or fetus. Therefore, restrictions that prevent a woman from obtaining an abortion where compelled by Jewish law, which mandates that the woman act to protect her physical or mental health, impose a substantial burden on that person’s religious exercise.

Under Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), “a governmental entity may not substantially burden a personʹs exercise of religion,” defined to include “any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief.” This means that arguments about whether plaintiffs are strictly observant are irrelevant; the law protects sincerely held religious views regardless of whether that view is idiosyncratic or unorthodox. However, even a law that imposes a substantial burden on the exercise of religion can be enforced if it is “the least restrictive means of furthering [a] compelling governmental interest” (the strict scrutiny test).
The state argued that abortion does not carry “religious significance” and, even if it did, the abortion ban satisfies strict scrutiny because it is “sufficiently narrowly tailored” to “further the State’s interest” in “protecting human lives in the womb.” Throughout Indiana’s brief, the state attempts to use science to back up fetal personhood, extending developmental physiology to make unfounded claims that protected life unquestionably begins at conception:

In lower courts, the State’s compelling interest is not up for debate. In Cheaney v. State, the Indiana Supreme Court held that the State’s interest in protecting unborn children is “valid and compelling” from “the moment of conception.” …A basic understanding of biology supports these holdings. “That human fetuses are human beings is a scientific fact, not a theological claim.” Regardless whether an individual person believes this, “the scientific consensus” is that “[d]evelopment begins at fertilization,” after which the newly created “unicellular zygote divides many times and becomes progressively transformed into a multicellular human being through cell division, migration, growth, and differentiation.” …. Science thus tells us that “[t]he act of performing an induced abortion during any stage of pregnancy, from fertilization up to birth, ends the life of an innocent human being.” The State’s interest in protecting unborn fetal life at any stage from intentional destruction accordingly is nothing less than “compelling.”

A panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals—made up of a Republican appointee and two Democratic appointees—unanimously ruled against the state, upholding a lower court’s injunction against the abortion ban as it applies to the plaintiffs. In the process, the court laid out a path for religious freedom challenges to abortion bans in other states and at the federal level.

The trial court found that absent a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs would be irreparably harmed by the loss of their religious freedoms guaranteed by RFRA. A loss of First Amendment freedoms, which include the right to free exercise of religion, “for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.”... Without a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs will suffer the loss of their right to exercise their sincere religious beliefs by obtaining an abortion when directed by their religion and prohibited by the Abortion Law. They also have shown their sexual and reproductive lives will continue to be restricted absent the injunction and as a result of the Abortion Law.

I recently found out I’m pregnant, me and my partner are over the moon. Of course we’re very anxious, but definitely pleased.
I moved to Birkenhead, a place just outside of Liverpool last September. It has really high crime rates, poor education, and is generally quite a bad place to live (even without a baby). It is cheap though, so it’s worked out for me and my partner. (He is from here.)
We always agreed that when the time came, I’d give birth and raise our kids in Scotland. This was thought to be years away, as we weren’t necessarily trying to conceive but weren’t taking precautions. Kind of had the mindset “when it happens it happens”.
Anyway, so this morning I was talking to my partner about making the move and now he feels unsure. I am from Edinburgh, and know it is really expensive and would be paying so much to get somewhere to live compared to now. He says his family would be more involved than mine, and that he wouldn’t make as much money as a tattoo artist in Scotland.
I’m trying to create a pro’s and cons list so he can see the benefits of raising a family in Scotland. I already have free education, free medication, imo you just generally receive more free support for many things.
Please, if anyone has experience with this or have any ideas of what I could add, please let me know as I am stressed oot ma nut trying to imagine raising a young child here.

I’ve never posted on here before 😊
I work in a higher education setting (therapist by trade) I see around 20-25 students a week, ranging from several MH issues to mild low mood.
I am 30 weeks pregnant and struggling a lot with my clients. I am actually better working with people on the more high risk level as I feel they need the support. I am struggling so much with the students who are just coming to me to moan about their work or using me to get extensions when they are just being lazy!
I have lost a lot of empathy for my clients as I’m probably more concerned about my own life right now and growing a human..I just think I don’t care about anyone else. I feel terrible about this.
I have rubbish supervision that is more focused on finances and am not in a financial position with baby on the way to get external support.
How have others coped with pregnancy and providing support?

An open letter to Benedictine College and Harrison Butker
I first came across the Harrison Butker’s 2025 commencement speech at Benedictine College on Twitter. It was a short snippet of the speech and I was in disbelief of what I heard. Intrigued, I went to YouTube to find a recording of the whole speech before drawing further conclusions. Now, I am nearly beyond words.
I grew up in the Catholic Church, attended a Catholic high school, and do still consider myself to be Catholic, although not without my own qualms with the church. However, this is not about that. I am also a more recent college graduate. I graduated from a large public university 5 years ago and am looking forward to obtaining my graduate degree next year, both degrees I have worked incredibly hard for and am immensely proud of. I don’t remember my own commencement speech, but if it was anything like this, I am glad I don’t- I loved my undergraduate experience and will be proud to have my diploma framed and hanging one day. Harrison Butker’s speech is condescending, out of touch, and against the very values of your school. You both, Benedictine College and Harrison Butker, owe these graduating students an apology.
As a proudly Catholic college, I do not hold issue you or your choice in speaker with promoting Catholicism and the beliefs of the Catholic Church, even in regard to politics; while I may not agree, that is your choice to do so and one that underlies the foundation of your school.
The class of 2025, as with many recent graduates and current students, have had to work through a unique set of hardships as a whole, beyond the personal hardships we all face. Mr. Butker is not a recent graduate, nor is he working directly with a school or university. College is a change for everyone from high school, with the course load, schedule, and independence, but beyond the nervousness and uncertainty that comes with this new phase, students are able to rely on the fact that since its inception, the college experience has been relatively stable, until the COVID-19 pandemic. Students, and faculty, were forced to rapidly adapt to a situation that we knew very little about and had no history to guide us. To minimize that, say that “it is not unique,” especially as someone who was not experiencing it from an educational aspect, is disrespectful to students and faculty, regardless of beliefs on the issue. Pandemics are not new, nor are controversial policies, but what these students faced, was new. I know of no other time during our history, where thousands of students were nearly overnight told to immediately leave their housing and worry about their finances and shelter as not everyone has the means to find new housing or go back to their parents, have food outside of the dinings halls, or access to a computer and internet to complete their coursework where they had planned on attending in person or using university resources, when these things are apart of what students pay thousands of dollars for or take loans to afford as part of their college expenses. Whether or not you support these policies and changes, that does not lessen the unique hardships faced or make a student wrong for adhering to them when failure to do so could result in greater consequences. If there is another time where this has happened, I am happy to be referred so that I can learn. It is one thing to say that the feelings of uncertainty and anxiety around new policies and adapting to them are not unique, but another to say that the challenges these students faced as a result of policy is not unique, it is disrespectful, condescending, and completely out of place as someone who did not experience it.
Beyond this, it is even more disrespectful to diminish the accomplishments of particularly the female graduates of your university by allowing your speaker to advocate forgoing using their degree and instead, choose being a wife and mother. To Benedictine College, if this is what your school advocates, then why charge tuition to your female students? How will they pay for it or pay off their loans for it? Do you expect your female graduates to marry a man who will pay off their debts? What happens if they don’t or if they choose a vocation in religious life, are their debts forgiven? To take it a step further, why admit female students at all if their degree is not meant to be used? A yearly tuition of $35,000 seems a greedy ask to attain what becomes a useless degree. Maybe this is not something you support, but I have yet to see any statement indicating dissent with this position. The Benedictine sisterhood and St. Scholastica, its founder, take pride in education and she herself do not choose the vocation of marriage. How would St. Scholastica be able to attend your college when she found her vocation to be in the religious life? To Harrison Butker, how dare you? I am happy for you and your family that your wife can be a homemaker if that’s what she wants to do, but that is completely out of touch for what nearly all of these students will face as they graduate. Your family can comfortably live on just your salary of over $4 million per year, but you are a minority in this situation. You speak of not allowing cost of living to prohibiting where you live, but with your salary, I’m sure there are few areas you cannot find suitable housing and access to food. Is one supposed to choose to live in circumstances where they do not have a stable shelter in favor of a more traditional priest? Earlier in your speech you mention “accepting your lane and staying in it,” I believe you should have taken your own advice, because your lane is far wealthier than mine and likely all of the graduates you are speaking to. Most families will need two salaries to live in even a fraction of the comfort you live and even then, may not be comfortable. From what I understand, you went to GT on a scholarship, another minority, factor in student loans, and the comfort fraction becomes even smaller. Should a family live in a constant state of worry about money so that a woman can be a homemaker? You spoke of charity and the platform God has given you, but I do not see you using your wealth for charitable acts to support the lifestyle you advocate in these graduates. You decide to speak for women and presume they are most excited at the prospect of marriage and children when you are speaking to congratulate them on a major accomplishment that has little to do with their future as a wife or mother. Can a woman not find fulfillment and a calling as a valuable member of the workforce and a wife and mother. As a woman who anticipates graduating from medical school in one year, is being a doctor not part of God’s plan for me? As I understand it, my vocation, is not between being a wife and mother or being a doctor, but of the calling to serve as a married, single, or religious person. You make it seem as though I cannot be both a doctor and family woman one day. You make remarks about controlling how and when children are conceived. You condemn IVF and surrogacy when a large portion of woman and men in this country struggle with infertility or health conditions making a pregnancy incredibly dangerous. If a woman cannot naturally have a child then is she not to be a mother? Do you also condemn adoption as it a choice and controlled method of becoming a parent? Is it only if a woman is unable to conceive naturally that it is acceptable to work rather than be a homemaker? I have always been taught in my experience with the Catholic Church to welcome children into your life whenever they come about, not as a barrier to being a working mom. You have laid out the options as black or white, mother or worker, when I believe the advice is to be open to and welcome God’s plan for you in both areas of your life. Not only do you advocate for the females graduates to forgo the workforce when this is an unrealistic path for most, but in doing so, you add extra pressure to the male graduates to provide in an unrealistic way. At what cost do men take higher paying jobs they are unhappy in so that their wives can be homemakers? You have worked hard to get to where you are, say you are doing something you love, and are able to show the fruits of that labor, should these graduates not show all of the knowledge and skills they have gained through earning their degree?
To Harrison Butker, I, too, am Catholic. I believe we also are similar in that we question right from wrong and do not just blindly accept the things that are fed to us. You say that our priests and bishops are anointed by God, but quickly question that anointing. I now question you, in who you are to question who has been anointed by God. You point out it is your duty as a father to lead your son. In our faith, we call our priests Father, but you call us to question and right them, should they not lead us? Should we not follow the quote you use of trusting our priests to translate the teachings of the Bible for us? Does your son question you and what is your response? You call for priests and bishops to be righted but also to stay in our lane. I do not mean to support the actions of our church leaders either way, but as an individual am not following what you ask of these graduates.
To Harrison Butker, you say you speak from experience, but it seems your experiences are vastly different than most of the graduates you speak to. Your statements contradict one another, in questioning our church leaders, staying in our lane, and even speaking of your wife as someone who converted to Catholicism but later question being with someone of a different faith, not allowing for change. As I have stated before, it is one thing to speak of shared feelings, but another to speak of a shared experience. You give advice in black or white rather than ideas for consideration and reflection. Listening to your commencement speech, I can’t imagine I would have found excitement for the future and wisdom as I start to move forward on my own. Had this been my speech to give, I couldn’t speak to a lot of the challenges these students faced, but can empathize with the fears of stepping out of the student life and uncertainty about my future. I could speak to how being able to adapt to challenges, facing hardship in my own way has made me strong and able to persevere and that they too have grown to be stronger and able to persevere too, even if they are not confident. I could speak to how money is not always the most important thing in life, your church, your family, your community are all things to reflect on when making decisions about the future. But, this was not my speech, it was yours. My ideas may not be right, maybe it has more “fluff” than yours, but they do not tell me the right or wrong way to live my life, as that is between me and God.
To Benedictine College, much of this is address to Harrison Butker. However, this is the person you chose and supported in giving a commencement speech. What is address to him, is also a reflection of what you support and believe, and the message you hope to send your graduates off with. I am not one of your graduates, happy to say I am not with this speech, but at least for me, this is the representation I have of your school.
To Benedictine College and Harrison Butker, you both owe the graduates an apology for these disrespectful and confusing sentiments as they enter a new and stressful chapter of their lives.
To the Benedictine College class of 2025, congratulations!

This issue may not belong here, so if not, please redirect me. I didn’t know where to start. About 12 years ago, my MIL (now deceased) paid cash ($145,000) for a townhome for her son - I’ll call them Darren (64m) and his wife Dana (61f). For some context, Darren and Dana mooched off of MIL for at least 25 years and have been given hundreds of thousands of dollars. Within a year of being given the house, they drew from a line of credit because they repeatedly run up all of their credit cards and then can’t afford the payments. Darren hasn’t worked for at least 25 years and Dana only has a high school education so works as associate in payroll for companies.
My husband (62) and I (59f) went no contact with Darren and Dana right before MIL passed away. My husband took over his mom’s finances after she signed a POA, and took control of all of her debit and credit cards and checkbook and blocked Darren and Dana from access. They were furious that they no longer had access to MIL’s money. Darren was an alcoholic who became belligerent when drinking and is a physically imposing man (over 6’ and 400 pounds). Darren started threatening us trying to get us to give him the credit cards and checkbook. They live a mile from us. When we wouldn’t bend to their demands they paid an attorney to write a letter saying they were going to file charges of elder abuse and again demanded we give cards and checkbook to them along with all relevant paperwork. We ignored the letter because my husband had a POA that was signed and notarized and a drs statement attesting to MIL’s ability to understand what she was signing. They got even more desperate when we ignored their ridiculous letter. Darren was now calling my husband (his brother) and threatening to contact his bosses at his job and tell them that we are suspected of elder abuse. At this point, my husband made the difficult decision to go no contact with Darren and Dana in order to protect us.
MIL passed shortly after this and her remaining assets were liquidated (everything was in a trust) and split evenly between the two brothers. Fast forward ten years. We have had zero contact with Darren and Dana. The last time we saw Darren, he was in pretty bad shape (diabetes, alcoholic, chain smoker, zero exercise, poor diet), so we knew he would probably die young. Every once in a while, I would see if they still owned the house and also check the obituaries.
This week when I searched, I found Darren’s obituary. He died back in January 2024. I did request the death certificate and noticed on the death certificate that it said he was divorced. So in further checking public records, we found out that they divorced in 9/23. As soon as Darren was out of the house (he was at an extended stay hotel), Dana moved her daughter and daughter’s partner into the house.
Just this past week I noticed the deed on the house was changed to just Dana’s name. I am going to go to the clerk’s office and look at the divorce decree. Typically, wouldn’t Dana have to either buy Darren out for his half of the house or agree to give him half when it’s sold? If the agreement was to give him half the proceeds of the sale, does it have to be sold within a certain amount of time? The house is now worth upwards of $325,000. And what happens since Darren died so quickly after the divorce? How was Dana able to remove Darren’s name from the house? Wouldn’t he have to sign a Quit Claim Deed? And if he did, then he should have received some money. He was estranged from his only child and only sibling, so if he did have money, how do I find out who inherits it?
I appreciate any guidance you can offer. Dana is a greedy, dishonest snake, so I think she probably took any money that he had. Darren was cremated and I doubt that he had a will, unless Dana coerced him into leaving everything to her.

Background information: I completed school in 2020 without taking my GCSE exams due to COVID-19. Consequently, I received teacher-assessed grades. Over the next three years, I pursued catering at college with the ambition of becoming a chef. During this time, I managed to attain my maths GCSE on my first attempt and my English GCSE on my second attempt, finally having the opportunity to sit the exams after two years of COVID-19 disruptions. However, in my final year, I became disenchanted with the idea of being a chef and discovered a passion for geology. To pursue geology at university, I needed a science GCSE and planned to take an access course to higher education.
Now, my dilemma: I am currently taking GCSE biology and have already completed the first exam, with preparations underway for the second. Recently, I underwent an interview for the access course, which required me to undergo English, maths, and science assessments. Due to a lack of preparation time, I performed poorly. Consequently, I received an email rejecting my application due to my assessment performance. This rejection left me feeling depressed and questioning the significance of my GCSEs, as they seemed invalidated by this assessment. I have lost motivation to revise for my GCSE paper 2 exam, feeling it is pointless. Additionally, I am unable to apply for a foundation year because I need a combined science GCSE, which I am not currently studying. It feels like hitting a dead end, and the prospect of waiting another year to start over is disheartening. I am overwhelmed with feelings of hopelessness and depression.

I started seeing a teacher when I moved to a new city for a new job (met on Hinge). I was working long hours at the hospital during COVID but got to see her a few times a week. She was a single mother with a 6 month old which I did not mind but as I got to know her I discovered the following things. After 11 months of knowing her she gave me an ultimatum to get a ring and be engaged within the next 3-4 months. Looking back, I ignored and dismissed a lot of things. Here are the things I learned and want to know what you would think if the person you are dating had this history and they were asking for a lifetime commitment:
• She had cheated on her ex-husband with a man at a party. When I asked her what the issues were in the marriage, she said he was a nice man but just neglectful of her in the marriage.
• She spent the next 5 years with the man she cheated with on her ex-husband. She left that man because “he wasn’t going to move on up in the world and make something of himself.” In other words, he wasn’t going to make more money or climb the social status ladder per her. I asked if he was good to her. She said - yes! He was an amazing partner otherwise.
• Then she found a man who is wealthy and educated and a lecturer, who has a good family and generational wealth including properties. He told her that he was polyamorous. She chased him and tried to convince him the entirety of their relationship to convert to monogamy for her. I spoke with him directly because he is the father of her child. He said that she moved fast and was talking about marriage within 3 months of knowing him. He was unwilling to really change his lifestyle and even took her to orgies and shared books on poly lifestyle with her to see if she would be okay with being his main person while he does poly. After 11 months or more of dating and eventually living together, she finds out she is pregnant with his child. She tells everyone that she missed the pill for a day or two and got pregnant. (When she told me this I was very surprised because my understanding is that it’s quite rare to get pregnant with just missing one day). She found out she was pregnant and decides to keep the baby. All the while trying to convince the baby’s father to marry her. He eventually told her that he didn’t want the child or a family. While she is figuring this out with him, she began sleeping with a dentist during pregnancy. I asked her about this choice and why not stay with this dentist. She said that he was burning out and was looking to leave dentistry. Once she knew that the baby’s biological dad would not marry her at any cost, she calls up the ex-boyfriend and starts sleeping with him once the baby is born.
• I discovered recently that during our relationship, she has been scanning for other men and keeping her options open. I am so disappointed and upset with myself for ignoring the red flags.
Tell me if you knew this history about a person, what conclusions you would draw and if you would get into a long-term relationship with them? Thanks for the input.

I was talking to a friend for the first time in a while and she said ‘I know I feel really good after a run so I should really do it more’ (she was going through a really hard time).
I even remember from my physical education teacher in high school telling me that there’s scientific proof that exercise is good for your mental health, and your blood flowing and all that jazz is good for you.
However, I personally can’t recall a single time that I felt better (mentally) after exercising, and I’m not sure if that’s just because I’m overweight (and therefore exercise is more(?) strenuous) or because my poor mental health can’t hope to be fixed with a simple workout.
The true irony is that I actually used to be involved in competitive sports and was also an instructoteacher for a sport throughout high school. I wasn’t so competitive that it ruined my love for physical activities, so I doubt it’s the competition or the work ethic that tired me out.
Every time I exercise (at both 120 and 260 lbs), I just remember feeling tired, wanting to go home, I felt like crap because I was sweaty and gross, and I was only forcing myself to move. I did a 10k steps/day challenge about a year ago (the post is on my profile somewhere) and now I just feel a bit burnt out. (I know I probably pushed myself a bit too much at that weight and that’s why I’m burned out but it doesn’t change the fact that exercise has never made me feel good).
Just wondering if others have had similar experiences, or how you got yourself out of that rut, or even really basic ways to move your body and enjoy that experience. I really wish I could work out daily and find SOME enjoyment without actually wanting to give up on life or wanting to never do it again. :(

My husband and I just got married 6 months ago and I got pregnant right away just as we both wished. We have been together for 4 years, lived together for 2 of those so it was an easy adjustment after our wedding day. About a month later my husband wanted me to quit my job and be a housewife so that he could focus on his career while I took care of our home and baby to be. He told me that he would work a typical 40 hour week with 2 days off. I was never concerned about our income because we made more than enough to support us both including our baby otw so I agreed to this arrangement. I enjoy cooking, cleaning the house, doing the yard work and running all the errands. It has never been an issue for me (still isn’t) but I can’t help but want to give up on all the responsibility and say fu*k it because my husband has completely neglected all my emotional and physical needs during this pregnancy. Around the time I was 8 weeks pregnant my husband decided to get a second job behind my back. He now works 70 hour weeks with NO DAYS OFF! When he does have time off he spends it with friends or says he’s too tired to be with me. The first thing that came to mind when I found out was “Are we not financially stable?” See, my husband and I share a bank account and talk through all the bills together as a team and we both have our own set allowance of how much we can spend on ourselves per month. HE DOESN’T NEED THE SECOND JOB! We have had many conversations over the past few months of how alone I feel, that I need time with him and that I need someone to help support me during this pregnancy. He always replies with “I am here for you” or he just actively falls asleep and/or ignores me when I communicate to him how I’m feeling. During these conversations I tend to cry because of all the hormones and emotions running through my body at once and almost everytime he looks at me with the coldest face or falls asleep on me while tears run down my face. I never get even a little hug or any reassurance. This was not the person I fell in love with and it doesn’t seem like him at all. I miss him a lot and more than anything I want him to be involved in the pregnancy. When I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum in the first trimester it would cause me to vomit 12 times a day. If my husband happened to be in the room while I was sick he would say “you’ll be okay, do you want some eggs.” He had a tendency to always bring up food in the middle of me throwing up and when I would tell him to stop he’d either continue to bring up different foods or leave the room and not check on me again. Then later when I was struggling with vitamin deficiency in this pregnancy he would never check to see how I was feeling nor would he educate himself on what i struggling with at the time. He bought himself a $400 Lego a couple days ago and when I told him I needed to get some maternity clothes he said that I shouldn’t be purchasing stupid stuff like that and that I should only purchase needs not wants. I found it pretty amusing that a $400 Lego was considered a need and maternity clothes are just my wants, but that’s besides the point. I have asked him on several occasions if I have done anything to cause him to be this way and he always tells me nothing has changed and that I do everything the way he wants it. Soooo, someone please give me some advice on what to do about this. He has turned into an emotionless human being that I have never met before. I don’t know what to do! I am pregnant for the first time in my life and have no one to love or support me. I don’t want to resent him, but also don’t want to be miserable.
