2024.05.14 21:38 ftfarshad Shadow Slave Chapter 1: Nightmare Begins By Guilty Three (Edited by Farshad Torkashvand)

A delicate young man with pallid skin and dark circles under his eyes sat on a weathered bench opposite the police station. He held a cup of coffee in his hands—not the cheap synthetic kind available to those in the slums, but genuine plant-based coffee, a luxury usually reserved for higher-ranking citizens. It had cost him nearly all his savings, yet Sunny chose this day for a bit of indulgence.
After all, he was at the end of his road.
Basking in the warmth of the extravagant beverage, he lifted the cup to relish its scent. With a cautious sip, he winced.
"Ah! So bitter!"
Staring down the coffee with a deep sigh, Sunny persevered, taking another gulp. Despite its bitterness, he was set on enjoying the full value of his purchase—regardless of his protesting taste buds.
"I should've opted for real meat instead. Who would've thought actual coffee could taste so foul? At least it'll keep me awake," he mused.
Gazing into the void, he began to nod off, only to jolt himself awake with a slap to the face.
"Such a rip-off," he muttered.
With a shake of his head and a few choice words, Sunny downed the rest of his coffee and rose to his feet. The affluent residents of this part of town hurried by the small park, casting curious glances his way. His haggard appearance, accentuated by cheap attire and sleep deprivation, made him stick out. His thin, pale figure contrasted sharply with the robust passersby. Enviously eyeing their stature, he aimed the cup at a nearby bin.
"That's the difference three square meals a day make," he scoffed.
The cup missed its target, landing on the pavement. Sunny sighed, retrieved the cup, and made sure it went into the bin this time. A wry smile on his face, he crossed the street and stepped into the police station.
Inside, a weary officer cast a brief glance at him and frowned in clear distaste.
"Are you lost, boy?"
Sunny surveyed the surroundings with interest, observing the reinforced armor on the walls and the barely concealed turret nests in the ceiling. The officer appeared scruffy and stern. It seemed police stations were consistent everywhere.
"Hey! I'm speaking to you!"
Sunny cleared his throat.
"Uh, no."
He then scratched the back of his head and continued:
"Under the Third Special Directive, I am here to turn myself in as a carrier of the Nightmare Spell."
The officer's demeanor shifted from annoyance to caution. He scrutinized the young man anew, this time with a sharp gaze.
"Are you certain you're infected? When did the symptoms begin?"
Sunny gave a nonchalant shrug.
The officer's complexion turned noticeably paler.
"Damn."
Then, with a swift movement, he hit a button on his terminal and shouted:
"Attention! Code Black in the lobby! I repeat, CODE BLACK!"
***
The Nightmare Spell emerged several decades ago, during a period when the planet was beginning to recover from catastrophic natural disasters and ensuing wars over resources.
Initially, a new ailment causing widespread fatigue and drowsiness didn't garner much attention. However, as people began to succumb to an abnormal sleep from which they wouldn't awaken, even after several days, governments started to panic. By that time, it was too late for any response to make a difference.
As the afflicted began to die in their sleep, transforming into monsters upon death, the world was unprepared. These Nightmare Creatures swiftly overran national defenses, casting the world into utter disarray.
The nature of the Spell, its capabilities, and methods to combat it remained unknown.
Ultimately, it was the Awakened—those who had endured the Spell's initial onslaught and returned alive—who halted its destruction. Wielding extraordinary powers gained through their Nightmares, they reestablished peace and forged a new semblance of order.
Certainly, it was just the initial catastrophe unleashed by the Spell. However, for Sunny, it seemed irrelevant — until recently, when he began struggling to stay awake.
For the average individual, being selected by the Spell could be as dangerous as it was fortuitous. In school, children were taught survival skills and combat techniques in case they were affected. Affluent families employed private tutors to instruct their offspring in various martial arts. Members of the Awakened clans even possessed potent heritages, harnessing ancestral Memories and Echoes during their inaugural journey to the Dream Realm.
The wealthier your family, the greater your odds of enduring and ascending as an Awakened.
Yet for Sunny, an orphan who devoted his days to foraging rather than education, the Spell's choice offered no prospects. For him, it signified an almost certain demise.
***
Minutes later, Sunny yawned as several policemen busied themselves securing him in restraints. Shortly, he was strapped into a bulky chair, an odd hybrid of a hospital bed and a torture device. They were in a room located in the police station's basement, encased by thick armored walls and guarded by a daunting vault door. Nearby, officers stood against the walls, clutching automatic rifles with stern looks etched on their faces.
Sunny was indifferent to them. His only concern was his overwhelming desire to sleep.
At last, the vault door swung open, and a gray-haired policeman stepped through. His face bore the marks of experience, and his stern eyes seemed to have witnessed countless horrors. After inspecting the restraints, he cast a swift glance at his wristwatch before facing Sunny:
"What's your name, kid?"
Sunny blinked several times, struggling to focus, then squirmed in discomfort.
"Sunless."
The elderly policeman lifted an eyebrow.
"Sunless? That's an unusual name."
Sunny attempted to shrug, but his body refused to cooperate.
"What's unusual about it? At least I have a name. Where I come from, not everyone is given one."
He yawned before continuing:
"It's because I was born during a solar eclipse. My mother was quite the poet."
Hence his peculiar name, and why his younger sister was named Rain… at least, when she was still with them. Whether it stemmed from poetic flair or sheer indolence, he couldn't tell.
The policeman gave a gruff sound.
"Should I get in touch with your family?"
Sunny shook his head.
"No need. There's no one left."
For a moment, a shadow crossed the policeman's face before it settled into a grave expression.
"Alright, Sunless. How long can you remain awake?"
"Uh… not very long."
The policeman exhaled deeply.
"In that case, we don't have time for the complete procedure. Resist sleep as best as you can and pay close attention to what I'm about to say. Understood?"
Without waiting for an answer, he continued:
"What do you understand about the Nightmare Spell?"
Sunny looked at him with uncertainty.
"About as much as the next person, I suppose? Isn't the Spell common knowledge?"
"It's not the glamorous stuff you see in dramas or hear about in propaganda broadcasts. How much do you truly understand?"
That question was difficult to answer.
"So, I just enter the Dream Realm, slay some monsters to complete the First Nightmare, gain magical powers, and become an Awakened?"
The veteran policeman shook his head.
"Pay attention. When you fall asleep, you'll be transported into your First Nightmare. Nightmares are trials crafted by the Spell. Inside, you'll encounter monsters, but you'll encounter people as well. Remember, they aren't real. They are merely illusions created to challenge you."
"How can you be certain?"
The policeman fixed him with a stare.
"I mean, nobody really grasps the nature of the Spell or its mechanics, right? So how can you be sure they aren't real?"
"You may have to eliminate them, kid. It's better for you to consider them as mere illusions."
"Oh."
The aged officer paused for a moment, then nodded and resumed speaking.
"Much about the First Nightmare is left to chance. Generally, it's not meant to be excessively difficult. The predicament you find yourself in, the tools at your disposal, and the creatures you must overcome should all fall within your capabilities. After all, the Spell conjures trials, not death sentences. Your particular situation does put you at a disadvantage, but remember, children from the outskirts are resilient. Don't lose hope just yet."
"Mm-hmm."
Sunny's drowsiness was intensifying, making it difficult to keep up with the conversation.
"As for the 'magic powers' you inquired about... indeed, you will acquire them if you endure the Nightmare until its conclusion. The exact nature of these powers will depend on your inherent affinities and your actions during the trial. However, you'll have access to some of them right from the beginning..."
The old policeman's voice was fading into the distance. Sunny's eyelids were so heavy, it was a struggle to keep his eyes open.
"Remember: your first task upon entering the Nightmare is to assess your Attributes and your Aspect. If you're assigned a combat-oriented Aspect, like a Swordsman or an Archer, you'll find things more manageable. If it's complemented by a physical Attribute, all the better. Since Combat Aspects are quite common, there's a good chance you'll receive one."
The light in the armored room was fading.
"If you're unfortunate enough to have an Aspect unrelated to combat, don't lose heart. Sorcery and utility Aspects have their own merits; you just need to use them wisely. There are no truly useless Aspects. Well, almost none. So do whatever it takes to survive."
"Surviving means you're on your way to becoming an Awakened. But if you perish, you'll create a portal for a Nightmare Creature to enter our world. That would mean my colleagues and I have to intervene. So, please, Sunless, don't perish."
Sunny, already drifting to sleep, felt somewhat moved by the officer's plea.
"And try not to perish immediately. It will be hours before the nearest Awakened can arrive, and we'd really prefer not to confront that creature alone..."
'What?'
With that final thought, Sunny succumbed to a profound sleep.
Darkness enveloped everything.
And then, from the shadows, a vaguely familiar voice echoed:
[Aspirant! Welcome to the Nightmare Spell. Prepare for your First Trial…]

2024.05.14 21:21 PaleoWorldExplorer My Idea for the New Sequel's Plot: GxK: Pandemonium

My idea for the GxK sequel plot would begin with Godzilla waking up from his sleep in the Colosseum and returning to Tiamat's former layer to complete his evolution. Fast forward a few months later, and Godzilla emerges from the lair, completing his evolution and starting to look a little bit more like Tiamat.
Fast forward a few years, and Monarch detects two previously unknown Titans emerge from the Hollow Earth, Titanus Qalupalik, an ugly serpent-like fish or amphibian emerging from the Arctic Circle, and Titanus Dakuwaqa, a shark Titan emerging from a portal in the sea near Kadavu Island. Monarch figures they are here to take over the niches left by Scylla and Tiamat. Godzilla encounters Qalupalik first, who is combative, and they get into a quick one-sided fight which forces Qalupalik to submit. Godzilla gives her a pass and accepts her to take Tiamat's place. Then Godzilla meets up with Dakuwaqa, who begins a ritualistic dance of sorts to gain Godzilla's approval. After Godzilla inspects him and his demeanor, he accepts Dakuwaqa to take his new territory. Then, Godzilla moves to Madagascar to rest.
On the human side of the story, public outrage over the incompetence of both Monarch and world governments to prepare for these Titan attacks is at an all-time high. Governments are now arguing over how to deal with them. Some leaders want to eliminate Godzilla because they believe Godzilla is going to attack them anyway regardless of whether they provoke him or not and that he is too powerful to let alive. Others want to focus more on a Hollow Earth takeover and declare war on the Kongs because they fear that they can plan another attack on the surface world. Monarch tries to assure them that such an event would not happen again because of their change in leadership, but many are still unconvinced. The American government, along with other NATO countries, begin investing in developing a new type of military weapon to deal with Godzilla, the Super X. They also are trying to seal up the holes left in Hong Kong, Cairo, and Rio de Janeiro to ensure nothing from the Hollow Earth can use those portals to invade the surface world again. Monarch gets into heated conflicts over world governments over the portals, as they want to keep a few open for research purposes among other things. The governments relent and allow the portal in Barbados to remain open but require them to invest in extra security in case of an emergency.
Returning to Godzilla, he is suffering from irritating skin parasites (these parasites would be Shockirus, Endoswarmers, or an original kaiju). To deal with them, he begins trying to scrape them off by rubbing himself against the seafloor near the coast of Madagascar. He also tries reaching for some with his jaws and claws. The people on the beach are witnessing this as it is happening, and once Godzilla gets rid of most of the parasites, the beachgoers realize that some of them haven't been killed yet, and as they are aggressive and still larger than humans, they emerge from the shore to attack humans. But this terror is short lived as Godzilla quickly comes in to finish them off. Godzilla then returns back to the water but stays close enough to the island where people can clearly see him. He floats in the water, similarly to a crocodile, with his head and eyes above the water. He is staring at the people and the coasts intensely, which makes the beachgoers feel uncomfortable. Then, it transitions to some flashbacks where we see Madagascar 5 million years ago. These flashbacks would likely be of Godzilla's memories of his youth, from his birth to the other megafauna that used to exist on the island back in the day. Then, it would transition to another flashback where Godzilla encounters some indigenous people on Madagascar as a more mature individual. He curiously stares at the people and the chieftain looks back with great reverence. The people bow and begin to worship him, and Godzilla continues to look at them tenderly. Returning back to the present day, Godzilla lets out a deep low bellow, which gives off the impression of sadness. In reality, Godzilla is upset that he has become more disconnected to the world he protects and now feels like his life has become nothing but fighting to protect it without being able to take pleasure in its wonders.
Switching the attention to Kong, a fight sequence occurs between Kong and another Great Ape wielding a heavy machete. They are fighting in the battle arena as some apes watch the fight while others are busy doing other things. Kong prevails and the Great Ape falls to the ground. After the fight, Kong helps the Great Ape back up. It turns out the fight was nothing more than training; one of the things Kong has begun to do since his rise to power is to teach his people self-defense. As the audience gets a better look of what life is now like in their layer, it is revealed that Kong has recruited a group of Great Apes to assist him in pushing forward his policies. For example, there is a group of Great Apes that are tasked with keeping track of their inventory and rationing their food and water for the tribe. Another group was tasked to build a safe bridge replacing the giant skeleton, which was at this point completed. Others are taking care of the children and so on. Then there are apes that are farming fields of crops, which Mothra periodically visits to pollinate. Shimo, meanwhile, is just chilling with the apes and is not confined to her pit anymore. Kong has no generals or anyone with military roles as he has no interest in conquest and does not see the need for an army at the moment. Kong also does not allow anyone to gather food or water on their own except for him, because he does not want to put anyone else in danger. He meets up with Suko after his duel and is approached by Boots, who is also now a trusted advisor to him, and is alerting him of an approaching Titan. It turns out to be a squadron of Monarch HEAVs and Jet Jaguar, piloted by Trapper. After the fight in Rio, Monarch sent expedition crews to visit the Kong lair, and were horrified by the living conditions that Skar King created. So, they planned an initiative to deliver humanitarian aid to the apes, providing them with food or water, and also trying to make diplomatic measures with them and the Iwi tribe. They have developed a new type of bioengineered crop made from various Hollow Earth flora and Titan cells to feed the apes (which can be a set-up for Biollante in a future installment) and a new type of HEAV that can carry a heavier load to transport these resources. They also created a humanoid mech named Jet Jaguar, piloted by Trapper, which serves as both a diplomat and a vet, fully equipped with veterinary tools that allow it to treat pathologies for Titans, including the Great Apes. In addition, Monarch has rebuilt the Titan Hunter with some improvements as NATO voted to force them to reconstruct it as a self-defense weapon in case of another Titan attack. Since that has not happened yet since the Rio attack, the Titan Hunter has not yet been used. Jet Jaguar and the HEAVs are arriving at the lair with another shipment of resources, including more tools for the apes to plant their own crops. While the Great Apes begin to collect the shipments from the HEAVs, Kong greets Jet Jaguar, who is here to treat a Great Ape with severe physical ailments. This ape has torn tendons and ligaments from slave labor and requires casts for all of his limbs. The challenge with treating the apes is that they are still cautious of foreigners, so Monarch has had to learn patience when working with them. They also have only one mech to perform surgeries with, so they can only treat one ape at a time. Kong and Jet Jaguar meet up with the patient, an as they perform surgery, Kong has to be with the ape to soothe and comfort him as Jet Jaguar begins surgery. After a successful surgery is completed and the Monarch team departs, Kong sits back and looks at his tribe. He begins to have feelings of self-doubt, that he is not up for the task, despite trying his best. He also still feels Skar King's presence, as the pain and damage he has caused still greatly lingers even after death. Kong begins to suffer from insomnia and nightmares from Skar King, showing his presence is still strong and relentless even after death.
Then, the Monarch team visits the Iwi city and delivers the rest of their resources which were designated for them. Here, in this scene, while the audience gets a better glimpse of what life for the Iwi is like, they also get to see Phosphera, another guardian Titan (The best explanation I can come up for why Phosphera did not show up to fight Skar King in the previous movie here would be that she was in a metamorphosing stage during the events of GxK and was too immature to safely break out of her cocoon until after the events of the movie.)
Back on the surface world, in a lab somewhere in the U.S, scientists are experimenting with a genetically modified colony of Shinomura, which would be the main antagonist(s) of the first half. These scientists work closely with the federal government. They believe that it would be more effective to genetically engineer a kaiju superbug that can quickly evolve, spread and annihilate the Hollow Earth ecosystem at much lower costs than constructing mechs which take much longer to do and a lot more money. The cells are dormant and can only be activated by exposure to radiation, which is why Godzilla does not detect them or see them as a threat. The cells are transported by a ship to North Carolina where another portal to the Hollow Earth has been opened. The military plans to release them into the Hollow Earth and then quickly seal it, but it is backfired by a group of mercenaries who attack the ship and want to take the cells for themselves. Unfortunately, the cells are released, and they are not far from a nuclear power plant which also happens to be using the pink super charged radiation gathered from the Hollow Earth, so the cells multiply and grow, turning into a swarm. The cells combine into arthropod like monsters that are too small to be Titans but large enough to attack humans. They begin attacking nuclear plants and surrounding cities while others retreat into the Hollow Earth, which catches Godzilla's attention. Mothra gains wind of it too and emerges onto the surface world to aid Godzilla. By the time Godzilla gets to North Carolina, the swarm has absorbed enough energy to combine into a singular, massive, supercharged form that rivals Godzilla in size. They begin to fight, while the military decides to resort to Plan B and send the Super X against Godzilla. The first battle is fairly even until the Super X begins to attack both Shinomura and Godzilla, blasting chunks of Shinomura away. It becomes a three-way battle until Shinomura escapes and retreats into the ocean while Godzilla is distracted fighting the Super X. Mothra eventually arrives and Godzilla and Mothra destroy the Super X. Then Godzilla pursues the main Shinomura heading for Japan while a few other smaller colonies move to other locations.
Back in the Hollow Earth, the Shinomuras that escaped there quickly grow and begin running amok on the planet. Kong is travelling with Shimo and Suko. They are gathering more food and water to bring back to the tribe, but their trip is quickly interrupted by a squadron of Shinomuras that have combined into their arthropod like forms but now rival Kong in size. Kong leaves Suko with Shimo and takes them on himself. He has no problem ripping the Shinomuras apart with his axe and bare hands. He overpowers them individually, but as the Shinomuras recombine and reshape themselves, they begin to overwhelm him. He notices Shimo and Suko are prompted to do something about it, even though he doesn't want them to, but eventually relents and retreats into a nearby body of water to shake them off of him. Kong quickly jumps out of the water and Shimo freezes and traps the Shinomuras in the water. The trio realize that even more Shinomuras are on the way and transforming into something deadlier. The three immediately turn back and run straight for the lair. As they are running, Kong gets flashbacks of being pursued by Skar King's goons; the Shinomuras remind him of the destruction and chaos that was left behind in Skar King's advance. Kong calls out to the apes farming as he makes it back to the lair and motions them to get inside immediately. He closes up the entrance and warns everyone of the emergency. He has everyone gather all of the resources they have and take refuge in Shimo's former lair, which they now use as an emergency bunker. Boots signs Kong what are they going to do next, and Kong admits he doesn't know, but he intends to be the one to check when it is safe to leave again. Meanwhile, the Iwi are in a similar predicament and Phosphera swoops in to defend the barrier against the invading Shinomuras.
In response to all of this, Monarch sends militaristic HEAVs to neutralize the Shinomuras and has Trapper (or some other character) tasked to pilot Titan Hunter to pursue the main Shinomura on the surface and kill it. Kashiwazaki is evacuated before Shinomura arrives on the scene. Shinomura begins to attack the Kashiwazaki nuclear plant when Godzilla and Mothra arrive to fight it once again. As this is happening, the other colonies arrive to other regions of the world, gaining more strength and attacking other major cities. Godzilla notices this and is conflicted on how to deal with the threats as he is fighting, but Jet Jaguar arrives in Kashiwazaki to fight Shinomura. Godzilla charges up to attack Titan Hunter, thinking he is a threat to him just like the Super X, but Trapper notices this and bows to Godzilla before he can attack. Godzilla accepts this surrender, but quickly shifts his attention back to the Shinomura. Eventually, Titan Hunter, Godzilla, and Mothra defeat the Shinomura, but soon after, several Shinomura supercolonies that supercharged themselves on Hollow Earth energy have reemerged on the surface world to the point where there is at least one attacking each continent of the world. The largest and most powerful colony is in the Yucca Mountain Nuclear West Repository in Nevada. Godzilla is forced to send his alpha call and awaken all of the surface Titans to attack the Shinomuras, so battles begin breaking out across the world. But Godzilla realizes it is not enough and ventures into the Hollow Earth to get more help. Mothra and the Titan Hunter stay behind to hold the line while Godzilla is away and Mothra moves on to Nevada to tackle the Shinomura there, and the Titan Hunter follows her.
Most of the Titans appear to be holding their ground for the most part, but not outright winning either. However, they start to have more problems as some Titans take advantage of the chaos to pursue ulterior motives. Amhuluk wants to fight to claim his desired territory in the Amazon again and travels to the Amazon to fight Behemoth over it and causing a three-way fight between them and the Shinomura colony attacking the region. Meanwhile, in the Hollow Earth, Camazotz reemerges and sends his minions out to devour everything in their path, including the smaller Shinomuras. So Amhuluk and Camazotz become the main antagonists during the second half. Some of the hell swarm attacks the ape lair, and Kong leaves to confront them before they break through. He is able to kill a large number of them, but there are too many for him to handle, forcing him to retreat back into the lair. Several escape into the lair, which Kong is able to kill. When he reunites with his people, he gets more flashbacks of his memories of both Camazotz and Skar King. The attack of the hell swarm reminds him of the invasion Skar King launched against the Hollow Earth and surface world a few years back.
Godzilla travels through oceanic Hollow Earth portals and passes through various ruins of extinct Hollow Earth civilizations along the way. He detects Amhuluk's movements and realizes what he is doing. Godzilla gets really mad, but reluctantly continues on his current path as going back to confront Amhuluk would take up too much time and energy. He makes it into the Hollow Earth and heads over to the ape lair and finishes off the rest of the hell swarm that was still attacking the lair. Afterwards, he charges up his breath and blasts the entrance open again, startling all of the apes. Kong grabs his axe and gets in a defensive position, but after hearing a roar realizes it is Godzilla. He calmly walks into the ape lair, but the other great apes become angry and leave the bunker to mob, surround and harass Godzilla. Godzilla does his best not to escalate tensions, but snaps his jaws, hisses, and sometimes pushes the apes away. Kong roars at the apes and directs them to move away from him. The apes follow his orders and Kong approaches Godzilla. He realizes that he has called on him for help against the Shinomuras. Kong decides to go with Godzilla but does not want to bring Shimo or any of the apes with him. The apes beg for him not to go, and even Shimo seems to cry out for Kong to stay, but he rejects allowing any of his people to put themselves in danger, and he puts Boots in charge while he is away. He says one final goodbye to Suko and leaves with Godzilla.
They have to fight off many smaller Shinomuras while travelling to the surface world while heading for Nevada. Meanwhile, Mothra and the Titan Hunter are already there fighting with the super Shinomura colony. The fight is rather even, but Trapper feels like the fight is going to quicky turn against their favor if they do not get backup soon. Some drones and fighter jets arrive to strike the Shinomura. Eventually, Godzilla and Kong arrive to fight the Shinomura, but Kong notices the Titan Hunter, and has a vision of Skar King, seeing both the Titan Hunter and Skar King as the embodiment of cruelty, destruction, and conquest. Kong attacks the Titan Hunter out of anger, forcing Godzilla to be the one to shove Kong away and break it up. Kong takes a closer look at the Titan Hunter and realizes that it is not the same pilot as the one that hunted Hollow Earth fauna. The Titan Hunter bows to Kong to show he is on the same side and they resume fighting the Shinomura. So, a large portion of the movie would be showing scenes of the Titans fighting the Shinomuras at random intervals, giving a glimpse of what is going on in all of the areas where fights are happening.
Shifting back to Godzilla and Kong's fight, things begin to look grim as more Shinomuras arrive from the Hollow Earth and combine with the supercolony, and Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, and the Titan Hunter begin to struggle against it. Godzilla is still capable of holding some of his ground, while Kong and Mothra are forced to step back as close-range combat is no longer viable. The Titan Hunter gets beaten up really bad and seems to be done for until an ice blast hits the Shinomura. It is Boots, who is riding Shimo, and has gathered the strongest and physically capable apes to help their leader (A fairly large number of fit apes were left behind to care for the elderly and the children). Kong does not know whether to feel happy that his people have his back or mad that they disobeyed his orders but regroups with them regardless and regain their edge against the Shinomura. Then we see more scenes of the other fights going on around the world before Kong's army, Shimo, Godzilla, Mothra, and the Titan Hunter defeat the super Shinomura. While the organic Titans return to the Hollow Earth to finish off the Shinomuras still running around in there, the Titan Hunter lags behind from all of the damage it has sustained, but the pilot persists with helping the Titans.
Back in the Hollow Earth, Godzilla, Mothra, Kong's army, and Shimo run through the Hollow Earth, assisting the local fauna in fighting off the Shinomuras. The Titan Hunter tries its best to follow them and fight off the Shinomuras, but they eventually overwhelm them, forcing the pilot to eject himself. Luckily, a HEAV is nearby and is able to rescue him. Then, a good chunk of the plot would then focus on shifting back between the Hollow Earth fight and the rest of the fights happening on the surface. Kong directs a portion of his army to join Phosphera in defending the Iwi city, which is now under attack by both Shinomuras and Camazotz's minions. Phosphera is close to dying (and eventually does), but the apes are able to kill most of the enemies while the rest retreat. Godzilla and Kong split up, with Kong pursuing Camazotz and Godzilla returning to the surface to confront Amhuluk. Kong leaves Boots in charge of his army and takes a few other trusted friends of his to confront Camazotz, but Shimo follows them, wanting to accompany them. Kong gets more flashbacks of Skar King when he used Shimo to try to execute him, and Kong was unwilling to let Shimo go with them since he did not want to use her for fighting his enemies. Shimo persists and eventually Kong reluctantly lets her join them.
Back on the surface world, Behemoth is not faring well against Amhuluk. The Shinomura colonies in the eastern hemisphere begin to lose the fight and as some of them are killed, the victor Titans travel to regions of the world where they still persist. In South America, however, the Shinomura colonies are still giving the defending Titans a hard time. Behemoth and Amhuluk killed the Shinomura colony, but to Behemoth's dismay, Amhuluk absorbs the remains of the Shinomura colony. It is close to killing Behemoth until Rodan shows up to fight Amhuluk. Rodan quickly gets the upper hand over Amhuluk with his airborne abilities and greater agility. But Amhuluk is not affected that much by Rodan's fiery attacks, as he reinforced his body with fire resistant plants like redwoods. The tables turn on Rodan until Godzilla emerges to fight Amhuluk. So Rodan and Godzilla tag team Amhuluk while Behemoth tries to get the strength to get back up.
Meanwhile, back in the Hollow Earth, Kong, his few trustees, and Shimo are looking for Camazotz and travel through a dark, stormy stretch of rough, mountainous terrain. They find Camazotz in a plateau surrounded by a supercell. They see that Camazotz's minions are feeding him, and he is gaining strength from the radiation that his minions got from hunting Shinomuras. So, Kong, his trustees, and Shimo fight the hell swarm and Camazotz. At this point, the Shinomuras are losing out on the fight with a few large colonies remaining, and Amhuluk and Camazotz become the main threats now. The plot then moves on to showcase some of the final remaining fights between defending Titans and the last Shinomura colonies and see the fights end with the Shinomuras killed. So, the main focus turns to Godzilla's fight, Kong's fight, the fight at the Iwi city barrier, and Boots' crusade to kill the last Shinomuras, which is coming to an end. The fight between Kong and his allies and Camazotz eventually breaks through onto the surface in Canada. Camazotz creates a supercell storm and begins getting an upper hand against Kong and his allies with his new power up. Back in Brazil, Godzilla eventually kills Amhuluk and Rodan and Godzilla both head to Canada. Behemoth gets the strength to get back up.
Back in Canada, Kong and the apes come up with a new strategy to cover their ears with dirt as protection against Camazotz's sonic screams. Kong then tries to do the same with Shimo, but when he does, Shimo does not like the sensation and pushes Kong away. He does not bother trying again and tries to kill all of the minions which are biting him and the apes and causing too much blood loss. Shimo does not fare well against Camazotz despite her size as his cyclone and sonic scream overwhelm her ice breath. Eventually, Mothra emerges to fight him after dealing with the last of the Shinomuras and blasts him with her god rays. Highly stunned and weakened, Kong grabs ahold of Camazotz and notices Rodan approaching to help. He throws him at Rodan's direction, who grabs him with his talons and starts burning him. He holds him in place for Mothra to shoot Camazotz with her webbing. Then Rodan drops Camazotz and Kong finishes him off.
Godzilla arrives onto the scene not long after and shoots his atomic breath to eliminate Camazotz's storm. With all of the hostile Titans dead, Godzilla almost sends the Titans back to sleep, but Mothra approaches him and begins to communicate. The plot then ends with Godzilla returning to Madagascar to take a rest at the coast and watch life as it happens on the island. Kong returns to his people in victory, and they are finally able to leave their lair safely. And Mothra takes over Godzilla's role of balancer, allowing Godzilla to take his well-deserved vacation. This idea of a plotline would mean the movie would be 2 hr 30 min or even 3 hrs so we get the most fighting sequences out of it. I know I glossed over a lot of the human aspects and that I left a lot of the specifics of how a lot of the fights between most of the unseen KOTM Titans would look like, so let me know what your thoughts on this are.

2024.05.14 21:16 Anon66606 Spirit/ entity encounter??

Roughly 7/8years ago I bought my first and only tarot deck (the original rider Waite) and decided to try out trying to do a reading with my then partner at the time. Before I resume, I just want to highlight that I have no prior experience or knowledge about tarot, I originally bought the deck through complete impulse and interest. Anyway, I decided to do a reading for him where I shuffled the entire deck and then passed the deck to him to continue to shuffle until he felt he had shuffled them enough and laid all the cards on the floor of my studio apartment. We were having a drink and curiosity got the better of us. He picked 6 cards and I read them out using the manual/ explanation book you get with the deck. As I was explaining the last card or what connection it could be to, I had a wicker decoration hanging on my wall right where I was sat and it quite legitimately got thrown off the wall and across the room.
Needless to say we both saw what had just happened and out of pure nerves, I began laughing. He however, wanted to up and leave instead of stay at mine for the night. I convinced him to stay but we both saw it go flying. This wasn’t a case of it dropping off the wall it was nailed to, it launched from the wall and didn’t touch the floor until it actually landed.
I’ve shared this story afew times with some of my friends who are mutual friends of his, as we broke up the following year and cut all contact and have said that even though we no longer talk and we’ve both moved on etc, he will tell this story almost word for word how I tell it because he wouldn’t lie for me.
I’m just curious if anyone else has experienced something similar, or could perhaps tell me what I managed to do that night with the cards.
I lost my best mate in 2015 and I’ve always thought it could have been him reaching out to me with a warning because the wicker decoration was actually heart shaped and that particular ex ended up breaking my heart later on down the line, but could it have been something a lot more serious and sinister?? It’s the only time I’ve actually seen something with my own eyes and actually had a witness to back my story. I was always somewhat of a skeptic until that day. Since then I’ve had my cards out over the years to see if anything like that would happen again but it never has.
Any ideas redditors, have you experienced anything similar or could tell me what it was/ could be???
It could be irrelevant to the main topic of my post but some of my friends believe I have a gift because I can predict stuff before it happens and I’m usually pretty bang on the money. I’ve always been curious about it, Thank you 🖤

2024.05.14 21:16 flrscm Resume review + job hunt help?

Hello! I've been a lurker on this subreddit for a while and I'm craving the embrace of girlhood and some help from those who've been in my shoes before.
I'm a grad student in New York City (US citizen, so sponsorship isn't a problem) and I've been applying to data analyst/data scientist jobs semi-regularly for upwards of a year now; I've had a grand total of two interviews, both of which told me (in much nicer, more automated terms) to kick rocks because I didn't have the ~experience~ they wanted for an entry-level position, and I don't know what else to do. I've already been dealing with some major imposter syndrome since starting grad school and the constant flow of rejections isn't helping -- I've written and rewritten my resume a million times, optimized it for these stupid ATSs, and I know a big part of it is that we're in the middle of a recession that no one wants to admit to, but surely, I'm not that unhireable? 😭
If anyone has either resume tips or advice, I'll be forever grateful. <3

2024.05.14 21:04 silverwitchiana I recently had an interview. Am I right to think it was weird?

I recently had an interview. I wonder if I should've said something. What's the right thing to do in this situation? Am I right to think that it was weird and uncomfortable?
The job interview went on for literally atleast 4 hours. Is that normal lol?
And the topic of my gender and sexuality came up. When he asked about my dating life. For the life of me, I don't know why I told him about my sexuality (I am bisexual, and a female). To be fair, I don't have a lot of experience to be interviewed in such specific way emphasizing more on my character and personality, and asked specific details about my life: from my family to my relationships, and my instinct is to answer their questions as honest as I can be.
Most of my experiences in interviews are mostly queries on my skills and how I can contribute in the said job/company (you know, the usual) and I think that's the more professional way to interview someone for a job. Now I wonder if my experience in this interview is not really "normal". Because it felt weird and too personal. May I know your thoughts about this? Am I wrong to think this way?
Funny thing is, I learned more about his past secretary and his feelings about it more than about the job I am applying for: that she got a boyfriend and everything changed at work. In short, he is still bitter about it.. I now know the details of their relationship dynamics which I find unnecessary but also funny (Or they probably had an affair lol and it got weird) Anyway, it was weird in general. Or is it reasonable since the job I am applying for is to be his Secretary?
(The position also came as a surprise since I just walked in a random building and asked if I could leave my resume, but then they proceeded to process me right there and then)
While the job interview is done and I am waiting for a laptop to load for my final test. When I asked for a feedback on how I handled the interview and what I should work on. Aside from his general feedback, He also raised his ("concerns") and opinions on my sexuality and thinks that my "confusion" is something that affects my character in general - Atleast from what I can deduce from his reaction, the fact that it bothered him for it to be brought up on my request for a feedback, my sexuality has a bearing on my "character" as a person in his standards. I even got the whole Chrsitianity spoof with the Sodom and Gomorrah reference (that made me laugh in my head).
Thankfully, after listening to him explain on about the topic. The laptop where I would be doing my final test, for the love of God finally finished loading and finally worked! And just didn't respond at all about all that he said... and just smiled. More so on the fact that I was saved by the bell by the slowest laptop start-up. And also because I just felt like I have no energy anymore to fight that battle at the time, and also I don't want to hurt his ego since I also want to get the job.
I wonder if I should've said something. What's the right thing to do in this situation? Am I right to think that it was weird and uncomfortable?
Now I can't sleep and still ruminating in my head multiple scenarios on how I should've responded on his opinions.
For my sanity, may I know your thoughts on this kind of response if that ever happened to me again:
"I respect your curiosity and confusion. Most people (not only in your generation) in general doesn't really understand or comprehend something that is new to them or something that challenges their own beliefs.
But to answer your question, respectfully, I don't think my sexuality will ever be relevant in a workplace setting because I am not here to date anyone. Nor to challenge your own beliefs. I am here to simply work.
No part of my value as a person or how I choose to act is based on my sexuality. I think your main concern is in how people manage their work-life balance. "
Thank you for reading!

2024.05.14 20:50 Simplyserenityy I am done

My downfall according to my father began in the last two years. Our relationship had always been rocky but it was fine. In front of my family friends we always look so close and he is so proud of me...but I know he hates me for not being more, particularly these last two years. I am gonna be honest...my downfall really began in high school, but I think he doesn't want to say it. I put on the hijab in junior years of high school and he was okay with it, but said it was not something he sees as necessary. But because all the uncles and aunties praised me like oh she is so pretty but she covered up and started using me as an example in the the group.. like it was so embarrassing. ESPECIALLY the uncles like one of them turned to his wife and started lecturing her on the spot like you don't wear it and she is so much better...and then they all praised my dad (like this was his accomplishment) and therefore he was pound of it. Like yeah my daughter covers up....
But hijab was just the first thing...I started pushing way from all of it...the journey of med school and all. I never cared for it. When college started, I started as a pre-med student but I KNEW I wasn't living up to the potential of a future doctor. I didn't do any extracurriculars or volunteering (part of it was COVID during the first two years) but the last two...I should have done more. But I was enjoying living the muslimah life to much. I went class yes, but nothing else just straight home. I don't know I felt like I was living in a daze...I went to class, then home, study, sleep, pray, class, then home, study sleep, pray.... And my parents loved that. I know It now. They liked this version of me...this girl was the perfect girl...she does well in school but also looks and acts like a proper traditional girl, never talking to guys, never social media, like I didn't even know about reddit until last year and made my first post actually 4 months ago something about being lost after postundergraduate...funny thinking 4 months back I thought everything was fixed.
I gave into my impulses...I wanted to be married and live that period drama hallmark simple life *we have it hard, but through faith and God we will make it through* life. I also think I highly romanticized the idea of marriage and the saving yourself for him maybe to other people too far. In the last two years, I went into some weird vortex or something. I just wanted to be the girl who lived for him I think 🤦🏻‍♀️....its silly and cringe and I know that now. But it made sense then okay, like in order for you to get into really good research labs, you have to work with others but I just couldn't...I wanted to never speak to another guy unless absolutely necessary life or death situation. Which again I understand is silly....🙄 no need to rub it in like everyone else I know. So I kind of did something really bad... I knew what I was doing even though later I feigned innocence. I switched my major from a science major to art...[and if my brother sees this.....it is still a subject you could get into med school with just no longer that "it" popular major for premed for the last TimE AND I WILL DELETE THIS LATER SO STOP AND LET ME GET MY ANGER OUT AS I HAVE NO OTHER WAY OF GETTING IT LITERALLY STUCK IN THIS ROOM ALL THE TIME]
Anyway, in the last 7 months the number of fights here was record breaking. I finally stated I didn't want to do anymore schooling. At one point I told my mom how I don't really care for a career and wanted to be married to the love of my life and I accidentally showed her or I think I told her after watching a movie (I cannot remember there has been too much going on) my Pinterest board of things I want to do as a wife...stuff like baking for him, and making his lunch...and really embarrassing things. ANYWHO.. she told my dad and well ensue the yelling and crying. I started feeling bad...thus enter studying for the entrance exam and racking in volunteer hours. I even stated working part time for "customer experience" and to see "how life is difficult and giving up on a career is stupid." TO my girls who work retail wow just seeing how horrible it is. LIKE LITERALLY HARASSMENT IN RETAIL IS REAL My first week this customer started following me around the store and asked me to out and I said no and then he came back and would not leave literally had to to get security on him. then came entering the job field and then to tie it all together the topic of the hijab. My dad hates that I wear it because it stopped a lot of reputable jobs and uuhgjgghjhhj OMG MY GOD I CANNOT I THOUGHt WRITING THIS WOULD BE CATHARTIC AND IT WAS BUT NOW I AM DONE BECAUSE I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO MAKE SENSE OF THIS AND THERE IS TO MANY DETAILS AND NOTHING REALLY MAKES SENSE and I am tired of the yelling. I tried to explain that to be the girl who gets into top schools and all needs to be someone who has an extensive resume (not just the amount.. quality over quantity) but THEY DON'T EVEN LET ME OUT OF THE HOUSE LIKKEEEE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. YOU CANNOT HAVE THE GIRL WHO IS BOTH AT HOME TRADITIONAL DOES NOTHING AND THE GIRL [WHO ALSO IS GOOD I think if there is any muslims girlie out here trying and living according to the Quran and Hadith and following your dreams to become a doctor to help people, then you do you I am not judging you at all..this is just my thing with my parents] who GOES OUT TO VOLUNTEER AND DOES INTERNSHIPS LIKE HELOOOOOOOO THIS IS NOT BACK HOME WHERE ALL YOU DO IS STUDY AND GET IN. YOU NEED TO BE AN ALL ROUNDER APPLICANT WHO DOES A LOT OF OTHER THINGS NOT JUST STAY HOME
But it's okay..since he SO BADLY WANTS ME TO BE THAT GIRL....I WILL. I HAVE NO ISSUE BEING THE GIRL WHO GETS THINGS DONE. WHEN I AM DONE, WE WILL SEE WHO WINS THIS FIGHT. THIS COMPLETE 180 THAT I AM ABOUT TO TAKE IS JUST GOING TO MINDBLOWING. YOU WANT NO HIJAB ME..FINEEEEEEEEEEEEE AND TO MY MOM WHO IS ALL "SINCE YOU WANTED TO BE MARRIED SO BADLY...WHY DIDNT YOU JUST BRING SOMEONE HOME" I WILLLLLLLL. I DENIED THEM IN THE PAST because I WAS SHY AND I WAS TRYING TO BE RESPECTABLE DAUGHTER FOR YOU........BUT LETS SEE HOW MANY YOU CAN TURN AWAY NOW

2024.05.14 20:41 Framed-Photo 35XX-H impressions from a Miyoo Mini Plus owner, and why I'm sticking with my MM+ for now.

I got in my 35XX-H last week and I've been messing around with it, so I just wanted to leave my quick impressions here and why I don't personally like the 35XX-H more then the MM+.
The Good
The Bad
Conclusion
I now know why so many people still hype up the MM+ even though devices like the 35XX Plus or H are almost objectively better on paper. While I think anbernic is very close to perfection with these despite my list of complaints, the software experience legitimately drags it down so far compared to a Miyoo with Onion that I'm not even sure I could recommend Anbernic devices like this until it's addressed. That and the buttons are the two main drawbacks for me.
2 problems that honestly shouldn't be hard to fix, and could perhaps be addressed with mods in the future like better CFW support, or custom membranes for buttons.
I genuinely want to play n64 and dreamcast games on a handheld, sonic adventure 2 works great on the 35XX-H for me, and moonlight worked far better then I thought it would, but I'll happily trade that off just to use Onion OS.
Maybe in 6 months when the CFW's have matured a lot I'll reconsider the 35XX-H again.

2024.05.14 20:17 Ancient_Cow_580 My long term-partner M/32 is emotionally distant after arguments with me F/28 for days/weeks at a time. How do I navigate this? Is this normal, usual? Anyone has experience with this type of situations?

I've lost perspective. We've been in a relationship for 8 years, living together for 5. For the past two years, once every few months, a fight erupts. It usually has to do with something I don't do "right" in his eyes. In this case, I struggle to communicate clearly when I'm in conflict with him (he said/she said). I become really anxious and emotional and can be confusing (demanding space but at the same time trying to continue talking, saying one thing and then the contrary, crying and at the same time being angry). He stays angry, but calm. It's important to emphasize that neither of us physically or verbally attacks each other. There's no disrespect or abusive behavior.
He has a lot of trauma from his childhood, with a verbose, chaotic, and aggressive mother. So, when I communicate in a verbose, confusing, and angry way during a fight, he reacts with a lot of anger. The problem is he stays "angry" for such a long time.
I have apologized and committed to improving the way I navigate conflict with him. He "accepted" my apology. It's the same old story: in the face of conflict, I have the need to feel closer and to repair, and he needs space and time. Probably something to do with attachment styles.
However, seven days have passed, and although he is polite, he avoids me (he leaves the house with friends), avoids sleeping with me, avoids looking at me, touching me... has this polite coldness demeanor... Ultimately, he avoids resuming a life as a couple. And this hurts. A lot.
I wonder if it's common for someone to need so much time to process emotions and forgive. The last time this happened, he went a whole month without wanting to resume living together as a couple.
It hurts me, but I understand that he may need more space and time to navigate his own emotions. At the same time, a part of me is worried: there was no betrayal, no aggresion, no disrespect... I feel the response is not proportional. But I might be wrong.
As i said, i have lost perspective. I dont even know anymore what is "Normal" or not normal in a relationship.
I would appreciate opinions, experiences, ways of handling... or any wise words ;)
Thank you so much!!

2024.05.14 20:17 Skyaboveuss Am I being underpaid?

Immigration paralegal here. For reference I live around Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach area (don’t want to be too specific). Over 6 years of experience, Bachelors in Communications and will graduate from my post-baccalaureate certificate in paralegal studies in July. Have been at this firm for almost 1 year, 4 months. Started at 55k currently at 58k but with bonuses and health stipends, total is 63k. Work in-office with no possibility of remote work, M-F 8:30-5:30 with 1 hr lunch. 2 weeks PTO + 3 sick days a year (a joke, I know).
I feel like with my experience + education I could be doing better especially if I move into another area of law, but it’s hard to be considered when I only have immigration paralegal experience. Also I’ve looked into other immigration paralegal positions at other firms and the pay is a JOKE, this is the firm where I’ve gotten paid the most and still, I feel underpaid. Any thoughts/comments? Greatly appreciate it.

2024.05.14 20:13 TomatilloActive1529 Math Degree, limited experience, feeling aimless. What path to move towards?

Hello, 31M. Graduated about 5 years ago with a Mathematics Degree. Looking for some advice/guidance or to hear from someone with a similar experience.
Worked logistics on a Navy base for 1 summer, was offered a 5 year contract that I turned down due to location (West coast, I'm from MN).
Haven't had any success breaking into any type of industry. I have been somewhat restrictive in my search due to location, I do not want to move away from my family.
I believe I have much to offer. I have strong communication skills, excellent problem solving, I'm efficient and competent, very quick to learn, and highly proficient with technology. Ideally, I'd be looking for something remote, that challenges me to grow and develop new skills, that is also fulfilling and productive, with decent pay and includes benefits.
However, I have no professional experience in a specific field to build on and am having troubles breaching into anything. I've applied to many analyst, logistics, project management, even administrative assistant roles with no success.
I have been looking into data analysis or data science. Unfortunately, my BS did not have any meaningful coding taught or required and I was mislead by the department head that companies like Microsoft will hire Math majors on the spot and "teach you what you need to know." It was not until 2 weeks before graduating tha my advisor told me "If you weren't planning on continuing in Academia, you definitely needed to get a minor in Comp Sci."
Because of this I am not eager to invest more money in a Masters or second Bachelor's degree or any type of bootcamp or coursework. I'm very resourceful and am willing to self-learn a couple of programming languages or other potential technical skills that will give my resume more weight. I just want to be sure that I'm being aimed in the right direction before investing more time and energy.
I'm happy to answer more questions on specifics I may have missed. I guess I'm just looking for some input from people in different fields that may be adjacent to my skillset, or from people who have been in similar positions. Thank you in advance!

2024.05.14 19:46 Ok_Setting_3250 For those of you with varying roles, do you have multiple resumes (one with J1 and one with J2) when you apply for new roles?

I work in similadifferent fields (RN and biopharma), and am considering making a second resume that highlights J2 and leaves J1 off since J2 is more relevant to most jobs I apply to. I’d have to have a gap without J1, but I think J2’s experience and a gap would look better than J1 and no gap for many roles. Have others done this? I know consensus is to wrap up responsibilities of multiple roles into experience of J1, but that doesn’t work for me in this situation.

2024.05.14 19:26 RonBhauSwanson 2 cents on attractiveness.

I was a gym rat, I'm not now because of other commitments. So I have something to tell my brothers from my own experience.
Women don't care about your body. Most beautiful female friends of mine are with 5/10 looking guys. Couple are with outright short and fat guys. (I'm not judging anybody here but simply pointing at two major insecurities - height and weight). So don't be that guy who cribs about his body type for being single. Now that this fact is out of the way, how can you increase your attractiveness?
If you're a gym goer, don't go into major bear mode if you're doing it for aesthetics. Girls simply don't value what your other gym bros value. So trying to be the biggest baddest guy in the gym is futile. Other Men's respect won't earn woman's love.
Fat is a bigger turn off than muscle is a turn on. It's better to not have muscles than to have chubby face. (This advice comes from personal experience - my mother, sisters, ex told me I looked much better with sharp face with less muscles than with chubby face with more muscles). Face massaging for a minute everyday while washing face, drinking plenty of water, reducing salt and sugar intake, fruits for breakfast instead of simple carbs, enough sleep - basically avoiding anything that causes water retention and tired eyes helps in this.
In the gym focus on side delts (because visible), triceps (because bigger than biceps ), back (because bigger than chest).
Your attractiveness comes almost completely from your personality. Girls are wired differently in these matters. So invest your time and money on things that make you interesting fellow instead of buying 6000rs whey betting solely on physique which anyway won't work. Remember even with physique you'll get sex which doesn't guarantee love but personality guarantees love which guarantees sex.
Who are interesting guys : 1) Knowledgeable. Know more than people around them on various matters. 2) Well spoken. Your words are your resume. Develope vocabulary, be eloquent. 3) Passionate. Serious about the things that they love. 4) Courteous. No crass jokes. No bitching or whining. (Modern women this, modern women that comes into this category) 5) Planned and organised. Signs of reliability. Lets her know she can shut off her brain around him. 6) Aware but not self serious. Is funny, childish at times but with awareness of said childishness.
At the end of the day a girl chooses best of what is available to her. If she finds two idiots with no personality either she'll choose none of them or the one with means or looks. She won't choose an idiot who is also broke and ugly. Don't be that guy.
PS: This is for somebody who is going to gym for singular purpose of being more attractive physically to other gender. Don't be that idiot who waltzes in telling me how he does it for himself and all other things.

2024.05.14 18:54 Valuable_Island2260 Should I accept down-leveled, less base pay offer for career development?

Hi folks. I'm a pretty much experienced software developer.
Recently started a job search for gaining experience and build a better career path. Have a good resume with interesting tasks but not getting much interviews from the well-known companies.
However, got an offer from a global, tier 1 company and I'm highly interested in the product. But: * Got a downlevel offer. * Base payment is almost %50 of my current base payment and the startup offers I got. * Total compensation is equal to my current base payment.
Thinking about should I accept this offer. * It may stand well on my CV and let me get offers from more interesting companies at future. * I can gain experience and prove my skills there.
Don't know how should I end up with in this situation. What would you do in this situation?

2024.05.14 18:33 Nevertoldanyone1 Laid off the same week as first child is due: Trying to get a plan in place and keep my head in the game.

Last week it was announced to the entire company that they ran out of money and will stop operations this week. It was a surprise to the majority of us but it turns out that the leadership made some poor decisions that left us exposed financially. Additionally, the company moved locations and offered me relocation just over a year ago, a lot of my professional network is 2000+ miles away. The big kick in the rear was the fact that they are giving us next to no severance (2 weeks).
At the same time, my wife (33) is 40 weeks pregnant with our first child. I (33) was the breadwinner and my wife left her job when she got was in the 3rd trimester. The plan was for her to stay home for 4-6 months at first and look into part time jobs after that. My salary was enough to cover our basis . For the birth, the we went the midwife route, but that wasn't covered under insurance and we paid cash for it not to long ago.
Right now, we will have 22k in savings if I include my last paycheck. Below are what I already budget on a regular basis.
So with things kept the same "as-is", its approx 4600/mo in expenses, or just shy of 5 months of expenses. I think I can trim my budget down to 4200/mo with just my food expense being scaled way back I can push it past the 5 month mark. I will qualify for unemployment, just unsure of how much yet, it looks like between 1700/2200mo if my research is correct. Until that is all in place though, I worry lol. I also know that we will have more expenses once the kid is born, but we do have a nice stash of diapers from family/friends. My overall plan is this:
I know that I am nowhere near "desperate", I have seen some posts here that easily qualify as way more precarious than the situation I find myself in. I cannot ignore the fact that this all goes belly up if for some reason we were to have a medical issue or unexpected expense. I cannot ignore the stress/anxiety I have after moving across the country, about to have a kid any day now and then to lose your income. I welcome any and all feedback/experiences/ideas.

2024.05.14 18:14 ReluctanyGerbil I'm such a failure

I drop out of the program I was in because I couldn't handle one class without a adhd meltdown every day. If that isn't pathetic enough, I'm now sighed up to take classes for a certificate for a job that probably won't nearly enough money.
It seems harder when both my siblings just finished their bachelors and are considering medical school, it's seems even more humiliating when the guy I'm seeing is already years into his career and I don't even have job experience i can put on a resume for an entry level job.
There is no job worth the horror that is school, and the idea of just working fast food or retail just puts me at an absolute low.
I want to blame it on adhd, on dyslexia, on the stupid Christian high-school education, I want to blame in on younger sibling syndrome or lack of money.. but in the end I'm the reason I'm a failure. I could have just finished what I started in college and made decent to good money like I wanted but I didn't. I just stopped and now I'm not going to get a chance to make that much money for so little college. I can't measure up to nerotypicals or nerodivergents and it's killing me.

2024.05.14 18:12 TexASS42069 Writeup on Application Components

I neglected to include this in my cycle recap, but hopefully some future applicants find this helpful. Obviously this is not a one-size-fits-all. https://www.lsd.law/users/creep/SquidwardsHouse
Resume
This will be controversial, but it ideally should be one-page. Harvard and Yale have made explicit their preference for such. I’d say if you’ve got less than 10 years of work experience, you almost certainly can and should fit it on one page. Be concise with your verbiage. Don’t piss the reader off with small fonts (definitely no less than size 11) or crammed wording. You don’t need to patronize the reader by describing in intricate detail what some common-sense things are.
LORs
Again, I believe less is generally more, continuing with my theme. If you can effectively cover ground with two letters when you can submit up to three or four, then choose 2. The only school I submitted 3 letters to was Yale, and that was because I was advised they wanted two academic letters and a military letter to speak to my five years in the Navy. Every other school I submitted one academic and one professional (military) letter.
Yale 250
I wrote about a humbling experience where essentially the main takeaway was that I didn’t need to have an opinion/express an opinion on everything. I hit on the same anecdote in every single one of my interviews, and I think it was well-received.
Harvard Statement of Purpose
-I opted for a different approach contrary to what many recommended. I did not use my traditional Personal Statement for this topic. Instead, I went with a much more direct 1-page statement addressing why I no longer wanted to pursue the JAG Corps in the military (since I’m a reapplicant from a few years ago), and how now I want to clerk, work in big law for a few years to gain experience, and then be a federal prosecutor. There was a lot of good interview fodder from this statement that Dean KJ took an interest in.
PS/HLS Statement of Perspective
My Personal Statement was very reflective in nature on my past failures and moments of growth, and how offering and accepting help is crucial to such growth. I felt this fit the prompt of Harvard’s Statement of Perspective much better for me, as stated above. For my personal statements for other schools, the only modification was I had a paragraph inserted about why I wanted to continue in public service as a federal prosecutor.
Why UVA
I made crystal clear how UVA was one of my top choices, and I think they appreciated that. I did not want to run the risk of appearing like I was coasting on stats, which often leads to people getting waitlisted or denied at UVA and similar schools. I talked about how Charlottesville mirrored my state school undergrad, and how I loved that being an island of blue in a sea of red on the political lap brings with it a perspective you can’t find easily most other places. I also discussed my goals of wanting to practice in the south after law school, which added to the authenticity in my view.
Character and Fitness
Just own it. Don’t shift the blame. Be as concise about what happened as possible and take ownership of it. I got fired as an RA for hosting a party with other RA’s in my dorm room. It was about 5 sentences in length.
Georgetown Top 10
As a huge Survivor fan, I made a detailed top 10 winners list.
Interview Advice
It’s okay to be nervous. I fucked up the intro to my Harvard interview by saying something like “I guess it’s nervous to be normal” and we laughed about it.
-My Yale interview started 8 minutes late because we had audio issues connecting. I was panicking on the inside from embarrassment, but tried not to let that show to my interviewer (who I could see on video still). The interview went great and we talked for twenty minutes past my allotted time.
-My other feedback is to give good thought as to Why X school and why law school in general. In my Harvard interview, I said something along the lines of "A lot of people grow up dreaming of coming to this school, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't one of them. Even more than that, though, the size of Harvard's class brings with it a diversity of backgrounds and thought that you can't find as easily anywhere else. I remember reading about conservative students in the past enjoying now-Senator Elizabeth Warren's classes when she taught here. That coupled with Harvard having the highest student veteran population of any school make it a natural fit."
-As for the Georgetown interview, I think a good rule of thumb is to be respectful of the other applicants’ time and answers. Try not to talk more than anyone else in the group interview, and try to pay attention to what people say to show you’re listening.
-Finally, (and maybe I’m old fashioned) I think it’s generally polite and professional to send a quick thank-you email to your interviewethe admissions inbox. Don’t expect a response, but I do think it’s a thoughtful touch.

2024.05.14 17:45 A-TierTutoring LSAT Tutor AMA: Scored 174 and Heading to T6 Law School – Ask Me Anything!

Hey LSAT!
Since this subreddit was so incredibly helpful and supportive to me during my test preparation, I thought I'd give back to the community by hosting an AMA! I'll be active for the next few hours so comment or DM me with any questions you have about the LSAT or law school admissions (I'd also recommend joining lawschooladmissions if you haven't already).
About Me:
I first began preparing for the LSAT in early 2023 and studied for approximately 5 months in total. After two official exams, I scored a 174, and I quickly jumped into the admissions process after that. This fall, I'll be attending a T6 law school (HYSCCN) with a named scholarship. Now that the entire process is over, I've started tutoring and have already worked with multiple clients on achieving their goal score/admissions outcome. I'm excited to share my experiences with you all!
About this AMA:
This AMA is open to all - prospective law students, current test-takers, or anyone interested in the law school journey. I'd love to chat about any of the following:
LSAT Preparation Strategies: From time management tips to tackling tricky logic games, I'm here to share the strategies and insights that helped me achieve my goal score.
Law School Admissions: Wondering how to craft a standout personal statement or nail your admissions interview? I've personally experienced every aspect of the process (personal statements, supplemental statements, interviews, scholarship negotiation, resume building, etc.) and I'd love to share what I've learned.
No question is too big or too small - I'm here to help. I'll be active over the next few hours and will revisit Reddit periodically after that, so feel free to send a comment or DM whenever you are seeing this.
If you're interested in tutoring to take your LSAT preparation to the next level, feel free to reach out or take a look at my profile for more information. Thanks!

2024.05.14 17:19 amranan 400+ applications, no callbacks as a Spring 2024 Grad. What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,
I'm a spring 2024 grad and just graduated with a degree in CS. I've sent about 400 applications since October, and got nothing, and I'm starting to feel so worthless and scared. I really want a job in either front end or UX design, but at this point, I'm okay with getting my foot in the door in any way possible. I'm not sure why I'm not even getting callbacks; it has to be my resume right?
A couple of things to note:
  1. I have a VERY foreign-sounding name, and a woman who wears a headscarf, but I am a U.S. citizen. There's no way to make my name sound less diverse, unfortunately.
  2. Both of my work experiences come from working at my university directly, not big-name companies.
  3. I'm applying EVERYWHERE. I don't care about prestige, or a crazy starting salary as long as it's not straight up too low
Is it my resume? How screwed am I now for getting a j

2024.05.14 17:08 angelic_ly Is Stuller LLC a legit company?

Is Stuller LLC a legit company?
I found the job posting for payroll accountant on letsworkremotely.com and sent my resume and a brief blurb about me directly to the company email address. I've provided screenshots of the emails I've received as well as the (blank) documents that I've been asked to fill out/look at. Nothing seemed like an overt red flag until the very last document request they made, asking for my ID and my SSN. In my experience, employers ask for that when you're signing your employment contract, not during the interview process.
I googled the company and they do have a website, the website is not like. the BEST designed but it seemed legit. Website claims the company's been in business for 35 years and has great customer success rates (it's a financial advisory company), but I can't find ANY testimonies or reviews for this company. All I can find on Google is reviews about a jewelry company that has the same name. Tried Googling the CEO and found nothing.
I just need to know if this is a scam. The position is fully remote, if that matters at all. I haven't been asked for a phone call or a video call or anything. I've never worked remotely before so I have no idea what the procedures are.

2024.05.14 17:01 ReasonableTennis1089 Training to get a better chance of enlisting as 17c

I'm a first year college student with no coding knowledge. I'm not a completely stupid but math isn't my strong suit. I'm planning on enlisting within the next 2 years and am trying to figure out what classes/ skills I should pick up that would help me enlist as 17c.
Iv heard the test has been made easier, but again I still have no experience. My college offers things like Linux so that might make sense.
My whole thing is my recruiter told me I'd have to go into a feeder Mos but iv heard people say not budge and try to get enlisted into it. And iv got some time to build a better resume for it. The thing is if I'm definelty enlisting I won't have to work as many hours because I'll know most of my college will be covered. I can then spend that time on classes and stuff in the summer.
