We are examining the galaxy as it might have been 200 million or 300 million years after the Big Bang. Glass-z13 has a distance from Earth of little over 33 billion light-years due to the expansion of the universe. The James Webb Space Telescope, the largest telescope of its sort ever constructed, made the discovery of the far-off galaxy. The Webb telescope has been conducting research into deep space and sending stunning images back to Earth since its deployment earlier this year. When did the transparency of the universe begin? It's a strange but crucial question. The Universe was once opaque, but over time it changed to transparency and is still transparent now. It is literally the reason we can see far-off objects in the sky, and in a more existential sense, that instant of cosmic transparency had an impact on the behaviour of galaxies, the formation of stars, and other things. Answering the question is something that many astronomers want to do because it has significant ramifications for the objects we want to study and because we are here because of it. Astronomers from several countries may have discovered the solution to the puzzle: 12.7 billion years ago, roughly 1.1 billion years after the Big Bang. The fact that this is a few hundred million years later than previous calculations has some intriguing ramifications. Our entire Universe was in a hot, dense condition and all of its matter was ionised immediately after the Big Bang, like minutes after it: Any hydrogen or helium nuclei were free of any electron bonds. When an electron attempted to move, a photon, a particle of light, would strike it and cause it to fall. At the time, all of the light was incredibly high-energy and more than capable of maintaining the ionisation of the environment. As matter is so dense, if you were in this miasma, which in a sense you were since everything in the Universe was, it would appear absolutely opaque to you. For the first time, protons and electrons united and remained together to form neutral hydrogen. Recombination is the term used to describe the joining of an electron and a proton, hence this event is referred to as recombination even though it was the first time most atoms had united. Continuing the story Neutral hydrogen is highly good at absorbing visible light, the wavelengths of light humans can see, therefore the universe was still opaque even though the density of the Universe was reducing as it expanded. This period is known as the Dark Ages. That situation would last for a very, very long period until new objects formed that could emit ultraviolet light. When they were created, they ionised the hydrogen in space once more, but this time was different since the Universe had a lower density, allowing photons to go farther without being absorbed. Space became transparent all of a sudden and remained so. We can see a great distance even today because the majority of gas is ionised, or officially called a plasma. These black holes would collect matter as it fell into them, building up in a disc that would become extremely hot and emit high-energy ultraviolet light, X-rays, and gamma rays. These galaxies are what astronomers refer to as quasars, and we can view them from a very, very long way. When these quasars' light reaches us, it battles the Universe's expansion, which causes their wavelengths to lengthen—a process known as redshifting. In other words, the redshift reveals the quasar's distance, which in turn reveals how long after the Big Bang we observe it. Due to the fact that light can only move at a certain speed, objects that are further away are redshifted more and appear to us in the past.Because of the quasar's immense strength, even if we observe it before reionization, it will have already ionised the hydrogen immediately around it, allowing light to escape. The light from the quasar will be absorbed if there is a cloud of hydrogen between us and the quasar that is sufficiently removed from it to remain neutral. The redshift of the wavelength gap we detect in the quasar's light indicates how far away the cloud is from us and, more significantly, how far back in time we saw it. Very far distant clouds are neutral and unionised. However, following reionization, we suddenly stop noticing them because they are unable to take in the quasar's light.. So in theory, all we need to do is isolate the light from a collection of distant quasars using really good spectra. Numerous wavelengths will exhibit significant absorption, which will disappear at a sufficiently low redshift. Reionization took place then. This is really difficult to do in real life. You need really brilliant quasars, and even then, they are faint because they are so far away. Additionally, you need very good spectra, which calls for a large telescope and prolonged exposures. Numerous additional factors must also be taken into consideration, such as how the universe was structured back then. However, the astronomy team actually did this. They used archived observations of 42 additional extremely bright quasars from two other observatories in addition to 25 very distant very bright quasars from the XQR-30 survey. They discover that the Universe first became transparent roughly 1.1 billion years after the Big Bang by closely examining the 67 quasar spectra. Minecraft will be giving away free items to players during the latter half of May to mark the game's 15th anniversary. Mojang Studios' popular sandbox experience is set to receive a major update that will introduce a host of new content.
Before fully launching in late 2011, Minecraft had long been publicly available to PC users, with the very first version of the game releasing on May 17, 2009. A campaign to mark the title's upcoming 15th anniversary has just been unveiled, and those who participate in the event will be given a number of special in-game rewards.
As part of Minecraft's 15th anniversary celebration, players can log in every day between May 15 and May 29 to claim a free Character Creator item. The Character Creator is Minecraft's customization system that gives players the ability to modify their skins with free and paid-for cosmetic items. Each of the 15 rewards featured in the anniversary event will represent a different year in the history of Minecraft, which is one of the best-selling game franchises of all time.
Mojang Studios revealed in October 2023 that Minecraft had already surpassed 300 million sales at the time. In comparison, the title's closest rival, Rockstar Games' critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto 5, had sold 195 million copies as of February. Minecraft's success can be attributed to several factors, such as its core promise of endless creative freedom, varied game modes, dedicated community, and regular updates.

The upcoming 1.21 update for Minecraft, Tricky Trials, is expected to arrive in mid-2024. This combat-focused update features two new Minecraft mob types, the Bogged and Breeze, as well. The Bogged is a moss and mushroom-covered Skeleton variant that shoots poisonous arrows and naturally spawns in either swamps or mangrove swamps. The cunning and hostile Breeze behaves like a wind-oriented version of Minecraft's Blaze mob that only appears in Trial Chambers. Breezes can deflect all forms of projectiles, which forces players to engage in close combat while avoiding the mob's explosive Wind Charge attack.

Adonijah Sets Himself Up as King

1 When King David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him. 2 So his attendants said to him, “Let us look for a young virgin to serve the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm.”
3 Then they searched throughout Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4 The woman was very beautiful; she took care of the king and waited on him, but the king had no sexual relations with her.

Observations/ Questions
1) So here we see David towards the end of his reign. 2 Samuel 5:4 says that David was 30 years old when he became king and ruled for 40 years, so he's now 70 years old. For verses 1-4 in my Bible, I had a note directing me to 2 Samuel 21: 15-17. At this stage, David's days of fighting in wars are over, so he's no longer in the best shape physically. I don't think he's completely confined to his bed though. 1 Chronicles 29: 22 mentions Solomon being acknowledged as king a second time, so I believe the events of 1 Chronicles 28-29 happen in between the first and second chapter of 1 Kings.
I don't particularly have much else to say about verses 1-4. Enduring Word Commentary on 1 Kings 1 has this note: "It was proper because it was a recognized medical treatment in the ancient world, mentioned by the ancient Greek doctor Galen. When Josephus described this in his Antiquities of the Jews, he said that this was a medical treatment and he called the servants of 1 Kings 1:2 “physicians.” I should also mention that I looked up Abishag on Bible Gateway and she's not mentioned again in the Bible after the next chapter. Feel free to add any further insights/ takeaways that you have for verses 1-4.
2) What are your impressions of Adonijah in this section?
According to 2 Samuel 3:2-4, Adonijah is David's 4th son. Amnon and Absalom (David's 1st and 3rd sons) are dead as we know from 2 Samuel. David's 2nd son is Kileab/Chielab (AKA Daniel in 1 Chronicles 3:2), the son of Abigail the widow of Nabal (from 1 Samuel 25). From what I've seen in commentary notes, the belief is that this 2nd son was either dead or somehow unfit to be king. The thought crossed my mind that it could be possible that Kileab could be both alive and eligible, but turned down the crown. I'm not familiar with how succession rules worked in those days, so feel free to correct me if that possibility I came up with is unlikely.
For verses 5-6, I have John 5:44, 2 Samuel 14:25 and Proverbs 3:5-6 written down in my Bible. Adonijah takes a lot after Absalom and even uses some of Absalom's strategies like 2 Samuel 15:1.
Verse 6 stands out a bit for me. One modern phrase I've seen recently was something like "This person sounds like someone whose parents never told them no", which could apply here to Adonijah. I think it's safe to say that from what we've seen in 2 Samuel 13 that David wasn't really a great father unfortunately.
Not to put all the blame on him of course, for what Adonijah ends up doing. For verses 7-8, I have Psalm 75:6-7, James 4:10 written down in my Bible. I also have Leviticus 3 written down for verse 9. I would assume that's included since Adonijah's trying to use these sacrifices to act like he has God's approval in front of the people.
3) I'd also like to bring up Proverbs 22:6 as a possible verse in regards to Israel's leadership as a whole so far. I was rereading 1 Samuel recently and came to a realization. Israels' most current leaders so far have been Eli, Samuel, Saul, and David.
Eli-We see God judging Eli and his house for what happens in 1 Samuel 2-3. 1 Samuel 3:13 mentions that "he(Eli) failed to restrain them(his sons)"
Samuel-We don't know how good/bad of a father Samuel was, but his sons were corrupt(1 Samuel 8:1-3)
Saul-We don't know how Saul treated his other 2 sons. Saul tried to kill Jonathan twice (1 Samuel 14: 38-45 and 1 Samuel 20: 24-34), but Jonathan turned out well even when Saul was falling apart as his reign went on
David-already brought up
Solomon later on-Rehoboam has very little(if any at all) of Solomon's wisdom as we'll see
Israel's leadership really seems to struggle overall with the next generation. Still, I don't think Proverbs 22: 6 is a permanent rule, if we consider later on from Ahaz up to Josiah in 2 Kings (Josiah in particular was one of the Southern Kingdom's best kings despite the ungodliness of his grandfather Manasseh and his father Amon).
4) Why do you suppose Joab and Abiathar decided to side with Adonijah? What(if anything) was so different that they didn't side with Absalom before?
Joab and Abiathar are the 2 big names in David's kingdom(Joab as the army commander and Abiathar the priest). Joab I can see conspiring with Adonijah since he's done stuff before without David's knowledge and/or approval(ex: killing Abner, Absalom and Amasa). The next chapter in verse 28 mentions that Joab had conspired with Adonijah but not Absalom. Abiathar I'm not too sure about. I've seen commentary notes state that Abiathar was envious of Zadok the priest. It's not completely out of the question, but the way the commentary notes I've seen try to explain this felt like a bit of a reach to me.
5) Minor note here. Joab has 2 brothers, Abishai and Asahel. Asahel we know was killed in battle by Abner in 2 Samuel 2. Abishai is never mentioned after Sheba's revolt in 2 Samuel 20 and the list of David's men in 2 Samuel 23, so chances he died at some point before 1 Kings.

Tl;dr: I am in need of a new computer and I’m looking at the Mac Studio, specifically the M2 Max with 1TB storage and 64GB memory. Is this going to be enough to keep up with the demands of Logic Pro 11 and all the new plug-ins for the next +/-decade?
Full story: about six years ago, I purchased a refurbished 2014 MacBook Pro. At the time, I wasn’t doing a whole lot of production - I just needed an all-around machine to carry me through my various workflows. Since that time, my home studio has taken off and I’ve been working with a lot more clients. It was on my radar to purchase a nicer desktop that would help me future proof a little better, because LPX (and a few other pieces of my workflow) had begun to start seriously chugging.
Then I met with a client last week, and my nightmare occurred: they spilled water on my MacBook Pro. It’s so old that it’s basically beyond repair, and because of this, I don’t think the client is going to compensate me for the full value of replacing the broken device with one that will do everything I need to. They have agreed to chip in some, but I don’t think it’s going to be a whole lot. With that in mind, my timeline for getting a new device has moved up. I haven’t had the chance to sit down and do a bunch of research on it, so I’m hoping you guys can weigh in.
I’ve been looking at several different options and evaluating my needs, and I think the best-case scenario (albeit one of the more expensive ones) for me in the long run is to switch over from a MacBook to a Mac Studio, and then snag one of the new iPads so I can stay mobile. I wouldn’t have a fully portable workhorse of a computer, but since the majority of my work takes place in the studio, I think this is probably fine, especially if I supplement it with an iPad for the rare instances of offsite recording (it does happen from time to time)z
I have a few questions about this, though; if you guys have answers for any of them, please feel free to share!
  1. Mac Studios currently available have the M2 Pro and M2 Ultra available, whereas the MacBook Pros available now have a base-level M3. It seems that the maxed out M2 might have a higher ceiling than the base model M3? But I’m having a hard time discerning a clear answer. Can anyone speak to the efficiency differences?
  2. I think it’s reasonable to expect about a decade’s worth of use out of a computer? So I’m aiming to purchase a machine that will be somewhat future-proof until the next major advancement. Given the age of the M2 chip, is there any reason to expect that it will date itself more quickly than a device with an M3? Is that something I need to be concerned about?
  3. I’m still undecided on how much unified memory I want, but given my hopes of running many complex projects for multiple clients at once, combined with the other workflows I have for my personal life and my other job, I’ve been looking at picking up 64GB of memory, rather than the 32GN that the Studio has on its base level. Is this a fair amount? I don’t want to overkill, but I want to be set up to have this machine last a long time with (hopefully) little to no issues.
  4. Storage is always a factor to consider. I make it a habit to purchase external drives pretty regularly and back up my projects often, but it’s always nice to be able to operate without having to shuffle files around too much. If I’m honest, I think the 512GB of storage that comes with the base model of the Mac Studio is probably fine, but as my business continues to grow, I don’t want to have as much worry about storing things as much as I do right now. I’ve also read that the 1TB SSD split its file storage between four quadrants of the SSD, whereas the 512GB can only split it between two. It seems that splitting it four ways would help make certain workflows operate a bit more efficiently and that only having two might have the inverse effect. I’ve read a few articles on this, but this isn’t my area of expertise. Does anyone have any experience here?
  5. Finally, the age-old tech question: if I purchase this computer now, well, I regret it in a few months if the new model drops? It seems that Apple’s desktops are due for an upgrade, especially with the M4 chip dropping with the new iPad while the Mac Studio continues to run on M2s. Obviously, nothing has been confirmed about a new generation of Macs being slated for release, but can’t help but wonder if a release is right around the corner. I know it’s a longshot and it might not even change my scenario because I need a device quickly, but I’m curious if anyone has heard any information on this.
