Dry cough, congestion. swollen glands, aches

2024.05.15 04:02 CasualRSL I just spent 6 days in the hospital for mystery parasthesia and pain. Is it actually just guillaine-barre syndrome?

Hello! I am a 28 year old male. I just spent 6 days admitted to the hospital with concerns about a cardiac event because I was having facial parasthesia (tingling, numbness), the same sensation in my left arm and to a less frequent extent, my right arm. I also experience lower jaw and tooth pain, but I can’t tell if this is a symptom or if it is secondary to the swollen tonsils and adenoids.
For context, my wife and son recently got sick. My wife was very sick. Enough so that she sometimes cried about how much her throat hurt and even got a couple of chest x-rays for pneumonia. She was tested for every common illness because she had an insanely painful sore throat, a VERY bad cough, a whisper quiet lost voice and her tonsils were huge. The only result that showed was that she had a past EBV infection at some point.
I also got sick, of course. However, things went differently for me. I got sick and developed a bad sorrow throat and that was about it. This continues to this day, which is 12 days later. It’s still quite bad. My tonsils are also huge, but not as big as they were. I have tonsil secretions but I had more before.
A few days into my sore throat, my left face began to tingle. It was… weird. No pain, nothing else really. Just tingle. Later on in the day, my lip went numb. I went to the ER thinking that I was stroking out or something but the CT was fine and they sent me home.
The very next day, my left arm started to tingle and hurt and my arm starting from under my armpit medially(if supinated) running down my upper arm but not below my elbow started to ache. My shoulder had sensations of cold as well. The tinglng sensation continues and it runs down to my hand where I feel pain that that travels around but is mainly in my palm, thumb and fourth/fifth finger. This also occurs in my right arm. In fact, it’s happening right now. Both sides of my face are tingling as well.
To be clear, Yale’s cardiology team did a very extensive workup including s PET/CT nuclear stress test, echocardiogram, several EKG’s, maybe a dozen troponins a chest X-ray. No cardiac pathology was revealed. The only thing that was somewhat weird is that my symptoms were alleviated several times by nitroglycerin, but this may very well be psychosomatic due to my extreme anxiety over it being cardiac in nature and causing panjc attacks that the nitroglycerin calmed by lowering my BP and distracting me with low BP symptoms, honestly. I am a very anxious individual and I was very laser focused on it being cardiac pain because of the location. So much so that I did not even think of the possibility of my illness being related during my hospitalization. They did test me for strep and COVID and it was negative but given the fact that my wife was negative for EBV, they did not think it necessary.
I am wondering if perhaps this mystery infection could have triggered GBS? I do see a neurologist but my closest available appointment is three months from now.
So, what do you fine people think? Do these symptoms sound like potential GBS? If so, would gabapentin help? How can I go about making this easier for myself? I do have an RX for that. Thanks for reading.

2024.05.14 23:17 Juicy_Overlord Flu symptoms for 2 weeks with no rash or bumps?

Hello I'm in my mid twenties and I've recently started dating a girl and have had a lot of unprotected sex (stupid I know). Thing is I've had a flu for the past 2 weeks that just seems to keep coming back, just after we started having sex. I'm pretty fit so I'm surprised that it hasn't gone away. I've not had sex with someone in over a year and I read online that STI's can have flu symptoms but I have no rashes or bumps. I've booked a health clinic check up. What are the odds it's an STI? I hope I'm just being paranoid. It started as a flu with fever, aches, sore throat, cough that went away for nearly two days then it came back with a vengeance. I had a boiling fever, even worse aches and now my parotid glands are so swollen I can feel the fluid swishing around in my blocked ears.

2024.05.14 16:36 Nagash24 Am I just extremely sensitive to one virus in particular?

Hi,
32M, 176cm, 106kg, white, France.
My entire life, even when I was a baby (my mom says), I've had issues with getting colds all the time. Well I say "cold" but I kind of don't know what infection exactly it is that I'm getting... but I get it at least twice a year, and the symptoms are just those of a common cold. So, yeah, I feel like I catch every single wave of common cold ever. My symptoms are sneezing, congested nose, coughing, sore throat, lungs aching a bit, headaches from the coughing... and I sleep worse because it's harder to breathe well at night in a lying position. I don't have any more serious symptoms that would hint at the flu. It's relatively mild, but I just catch it ALL the time.
I know that several viruses can be responsible for what I experience as a common cold, I know that certain viruses mutate a lot which can make building an immunity problematic. But I basically never catch any other type of illness, either. I think my immune system is fairly good, I've worked in COVID-ridden spaces during the height of the pandemic and never caught that either.
I see other people though who never get colds, so, it IS possible to build an immunity against it even where I live... just not for me. Is this a weird quirk of a specific virus, a weird quirk of my immune system, a combination of many factors? I'm not pathologically clean and tidy, but I do wash my hands when I come home from public places, and I don't really lick door handles or anything.
Thank you for reading.

2024.05.14 16:06 Majestic_Incident_27 Nancy: Femme Fatale (part 2)

Nancy: Femme Fatale (part 2)
Chapter 2: A New Reality
Nancy awoke in a sterile room, her body aching with unfamiliar sensations. She sat up slowly, the weight of her new breasts pulling her forward. The transformation had left her exhausted, but curiosity overwhelmed her. She was no longer John, the man who reveled in objectifying women. She was now Nancy, a woman whose body was a living contradiction to her male psyche.
She looked down at herself, her hands trembling as they moved towards her chest. The sight of her own cleavage was both mesmerizing and disconcerting. She cupped her breasts, the skin warm and smooth beneath her fingers. A jolt of pleasure shot through her, making her gasp. She squeezed them tentatively, feeling the fullness and weight, the slight give of the soft flesh beneath her touch. The sensation was unlike anything she had ever experienced, arousing and confusing all at once.
Nancy couldn’t help but explore further. She stood up, her new hips swaying with every step, and walked to the full-length mirror on the wall. The reflection staring back at her was a vision of impossible beauty: large, dark eyes, full lips, and cascading hair framing a face that was both delicate and striking. Her body was a perfect hourglass, her breasts full and round, her waist cinched, and her hips flaring out to shapely thighs.
Her hands roamed over her body, feeling the curve of her waist, the softness of her belly, the firmness of her buttocks. She gave her buttocks a squeeze, marveling at the firm yet pliant flesh. Each touch sent waves of unfamiliar pleasure through her, making her breathing shallow and her skin flush. She traced her fingers over her thighs, feeling the smoothness of her skin, the strength of the muscles beneath.
Nancy's exploration became more intense, driven by a perverse fascination with her new form. She lay back on the bed, her hands wandering freely. She cupped her breasts again, this time kneading them, her fingers finding the sensitive nipples. She pinched them lightly, gasping at the sensation that shot straight to her core. She couldn’t believe how sensitive they were, how each touch, each squeeze, made her body react in ways she couldn’t control.
In her mind, she was still John—the man who had seen women as mere objects of pleasure. Now, trapped in this incredibly seductive body, she was experiencing a twisted irony. Her arousal grew with every touch, her body responding eagerly to the very actions she had once inflicted on others.
She moved her hands down to her belly, feeling the softness there, the gentle rise and fall with each breath. Her fingers traced her belly button, sending shivers down her spine. Her thighs were next, her hands sliding over the smooth skin, feeling the muscles tense and relax under her touch. She spread her legs slightly, her fingers exploring the inner thighs, feeling the heat radiating from her core.
Nancy's hands drifted back to her breasts, now more confident and insistent. She squeezed them harder, her breath hitching as she felt the fullness and weight. The veins were visible under her pale skin, and she could feel the mammary glands swollen and aching. She pushed and pulled at her nipples, trying to milk them, but instead of relief, she found herself drowning in a sea of arousal. Her nipples were incredibly sensitive, each touch sending shockwaves through her body.
She couldn’t stop herself from exploring further. Her fingers slid down her belly, feeling the slight curve, the soft skin giving way under her touch. She pressed down, feeling the muscles tense beneath. Her hands moved lower, tracing the edges of her hips, the smooth curve of her thighs, the delicate skin of her inner thighs. She spread her legs wider, her breath coming in ragged gasps as her fingers explored the new territory.
The arousal was maddening, but it also brought a deep sense of confusion and frustration. Nancy sat up, her hands still roaming over her body, unable to stop herself. She could feel the wetness between her legs, the undeniable evidence of her arousal. Her mind was at war with her body—John’s perverted desires clashing with Nancy’s physical reactions.
She lay back on the bed, her hands moving rhythmically over her breasts, her belly, her thighs. The pleasure was overwhelming, her body responding eagerly to the touches, the sensations building with each passing moment. She pinched her nipples harder, pulling and twisting them, gasping at the electric shocks that followed. Her fingers trailed down to her belly, pressing and kneading the soft flesh, feeling the heat rising within her.
Her hands moved lower, tracing the edges of her hips, the smooth curve of her thighs, the delicate skin of her inner thighs. She spread her legs wider, her breath coming in ragged gasps as her fingers explored the new territory. She felt the wetness, the heat, the undeniable arousal, her mind spinning with the intensity of the sensations.
The pleasure was too much, too intense, making her feel like she was losing her mind. Nancy’s mind raced, struggling to reconcile her new reality. She was no longer the man who had objectified women. She was now the very object of her own perverse fascination. The irony was not lost on her, and it filled her with a deep sense of shame and confusion.
She sat up once more, tears of frustration and arousal streaming down her cheeks. Her body was a masterpiece of seduction, but her mind was still a battlefield. The perverted thoughts that once brought her satisfaction now only deepened her sense of despair. She couldn’t escape the sensations, couldn’t stop her hands from exploring, from seeking, from needing.
Hours passed in this torment, each touch bringing both pleasure and pain. Nancy’s breaths came in ragged gasps, her body slick with sweat. Her mind was a storm of conflicting emotions—desire, shame, confusion. She was trapped in a body that was the epitome of those desires, forced to live out the very fantasies she had once inflicted on others.
She stood up and faced the mirror again, her reflection mocking her. She was a beautiful, seductive woman, but inside, she was still John—still the man who had taken pleasure in objectifying women. Now, she was trapped in a body that was the epitome of those desires, forced to live out the very fantasies she had once inflicted on others.

2024.05.14 15:41 Canadian-Corgi Cough that's going on 3 months now

Hello! I'm a 35/F in Canada, with a history of mild asthma. Non-smoker In early March I got strep throat - doc never did a swab but my tonsils were swollen & patchy white/black. She gave me amoxicillin and that helped. 2 weeks later I could feel something brewing in my chest, I tried to fight it on my own but ended up stopping by a pharmacy where he gave me salbutamol + 5 days of prednisone. That kind of helped, so I ended up at the hospital because of thr weight on my chest. Chest xrays came back clear, that doc gave me amoxicillin again and the round purple inhaler, advair. Went back to the hospital a week later. Doc took blood work, everything was normal (rbc was slightly elevated but was never mentioned) I was still coughing up phlegm, I couldn't sleep on my right side or I could feel the weight of my chest and start coughing again. Mid-April things finally started getting slightly better, but then they seemed to go back to square one a week later. I've been to the hospital + a clinic x2 now, got an EKG done it was normal....got more prednisone and was told to double up on the advair. Takes the edge off but it's not helping overall. A repeat xray last week showed nothing
Now in May I'm still coughing - seems dry during the day and wet at night, I can only sleep on my stomach or sitting up but wake up constantly coughing. If I lie on my side I get a bad wet cough that makes me feel like I'm choking. Sometimes I cough so hard I puke, or I can't seem to hold my bladder or I get pain behind my left eye..like a Charlie horse but in my eye. My chest hurts, my throat is sore from all the coughing. Same with my stomach muscles. When I take a breath in, I can feel pain on my right side/right lung?. If I turn my neck, lean forward, hiccup etc I start coughing again.
At night I take 2 puffs of salbutamol, 2 puffs of advair, an allergra, nasal spray and 2 tablespoons of benelyn and a tea with honey to help a scratchy throat
I go back to see the clinic dr today, I'm miserable.
Thank you in advance

2024.05.14 13:52 AdPsychological5065 HELP—Yeast Infection, Monistat Burns, or Herpes?

I am working on getting into a doctor as soon as I can, but of course—still seeking advice until I get in!
Had sex with a new partner on April 22nd. We used a condom, but he did go down on me. At that time, he shared that he was clean (but people lie so never know).
I got sick on April 24th— sore throat, body aches, fever, swollen tonsils. On April 26th, strep, flu, covid tests all negative and given a steroid shot and antibiotics.
Finished antibiotics on May 5th. Swollen tonsils became main issue again on May 6th and went to urgent care. Strep and mono tests negative. Got a different steroid and antibiotic.
Woke up early in the morning on May 7th unable to swallow and a hard time breathing so I went to the ER. Was given IV steroids, antibiotics, and pain meds. Sent home with another antibiotic prescription and started them that day.
On May 10th, started the yeast infection symptoms. I got Monistat 1 day (will never do again lol) on May 11th. Used a pad on the 11th and 12th with the discharge with it. On May 12th, I noticed the open sores on my labias.
I don’t have as much discharge anymore from the yeast infection standpoint, but I don’t know how to get the sores healed. I’ve been trying to keep it clean, dry, and aired out (wearing a dress to work with no underwear).
At first I thought it was a reaction to the Monistat, then maybe from the yeast infection, and now terrified its herpes from going down rabbit holes.
Any advice on relieving symptoms until I get in to the doctor?
I have a link to a NSFW photo of the sores too but want to make sure I don’t violate the community rules with posting it.
THANK YOU 🙏

2024.05.14 13:30 Boltzmann-Constant 1 day post op

1 day post op
I (30F) just had upper jaw surgery yesterday afternoon to correct my underbite. I'm pretty swollen still.
The pain was a lot less than I expected. Probably because I'm pumped full of pain reliever. I have no congestion. My breathing is actually better. I was breathing through my nose when I woke up. My jaw and teeth are a little sore from the surgery, but no more shifting of my jaws which was the main cause of my jaw pain prior to surgery.
Lots of bleeding and I've been swallowing and coughing up a lot of blood. Definitely had to ask for some zofran.
I'm very happy I went through with this surgery so far! Looking forward to my swelling going down and seeing how I look like 😊

2024.05.14 12:28 Kinnporscheislife 26F Non pathologically enlarged cervical nodes and an oval shaped one measuring 9.5mm

It's been 3 months ever since I had an episode of my whole body aching especially my back pain which got really worse to the point I couldnt sleep from the pain and even sweated and had a mild fever 37.4 celcius that night. The whole body/bone pain has been going on for a few days prior to developing that fever for one day but I felt like I was going down with something. My neck has been bothering me for a while I dont cough but it felt sore inside/weird. I did a cbc everything normal, crp, esr normal, ANA normal, ca-125 normal, LDH normal, igA, Igg, Igm normal, ultrasound showed reactive nodes with a more prominent one in the right side of my neck which is palplatable and measured 9.5mm and was described as a hypoechoic oval shape (lymph node?) In the report. Chest x ray clear. A hematologist felt my nodes on my neck and then my groin ones which are pea sized but dismissed them. For the past months Ive been having muscle spasms and discomfort on my legs, and hands which comes and goes like the burning feeling in the inside of my throat. I also get pressure in the sides of my head and there are swollen occipital nodes that cause me discomfort too. It feels like my muscles are really tense. Also I have really weak muscles/tendons/hip flexors? In the side of my buttocks especially the left one which becomes more intense when I open that leg or rotate it inside. I also get some burning sensations spreading from my chest to stomach and sometimes I feel cold. I also get random pain on my jaw and under cheekbones. Most discomfort was noticed during the night or laying down. I still experience back/hip pain from time to time. Also my left ear is sensitive when I hear something loud or touch it it makes something like echo ear drum? Also been seen by an ENT doctor who said I was clear. Should I look into this further or could this be due to a virus after 3 months? Possibility for Sjogrens(mildly drymouth, also vagina with frequent candida infections, dry eyes and have always had problems with cavities, dry nose) or TMJ? 6months ago I also had a neck and brain MRI which showed back left bone spurs in A4-A6 level that could be pressuring the A6 root. I've also worried about lymphoma because I got some mild night sweats that could be connected to anxiety and nightmares, were not drenching and after xanax use they havent appeared for a few weeks. What has been constantly bothering me though is the lower back pain muscle spasms and that weird stiff feeling on the sides of my hips and that tendon/nerve/muscle stretching/spasm deep inside left buttock.

2024.05.14 05:46 OilySkinFlop Accutane made me realize how amazing it is to have normal/dry skin.

Before starting Accutane I had extremely oily skin, especially the nose, forehead, behind the ears, and the scalp. After doing my skincare routine, I become oily after 2 hours. Every few hours, I need to blot my face.
I've only been on Accutane for 3 weeks, but I'm living for this dry skin. I can go the entire day without blotting and my skin at the end of the day feels so clean. I no longer feel like I just came out of a vat of liquified whale blubber. I've also noticed my nose getting slimmer from the reduced oil production.
A few days ago, I went into the washroom and instinctively blotted my face. I almost cried when the brown paper towel had zero oily imprints. (in the past you could see my entire oily face imprint). My glasses no longer get oily smudge marks after 30 minutes of cleaning them. I can wear sunscreen without looking like I rubbed bacon grease all over my face. I can slather cerave in the tub and feel moisturized instead of feeling thick, congested, and greasy.
I heard oily production usually returns to pre-accutane levels (or slightly less oily) after the course. Not looking forward to that. Guess I'll enjoy having dry skin while it lasts 😭.
TLDR: My skin excretes liquid whale blubber 24/7 pre-accutane. On Accutane for half a month and I'm living for this parchment, sand paper skin moment. My nose is so oily that the shrinkage of the sebaceous glands gave me a nose job. Had a happy moment when I instinctively blotted my face in the washroom and there was no oil imprint on the brown paper towel.

2024.05.14 03:38 dmb313 Diarrhea anyone?

Started on 5/9 with a low grade fever, cough, body aches, congestion. The fever went away on 5/11 and then started the diarrhea. I got tested today and positive for A.
Anybody else have diarrhea as a symptom? I haven’t had influenza in forever but I don’t remember this being a symptom.
When does it end?!

2024.05.14 03:31 TraditionalBadger662 Started getting sick 4 days post op…not fun.

I started getting sick (sore throat, congestion, sneezing, coughing) and it’s been hell. Honestly I’d take an extra week with drains instead of being sick.
It’s also been hard because I’m on wellbutrin and I have negative interactions with typical cold medicine, particularly dextromethorphan (cough suppressant) so I have been relying on expectorant, decongestants, cough drops, teas, sleeping next to a humidifier, etc.
Luckily it’s not hurting too much to cough but sneezing hurts. It’s more annoying than anything as I’ve been sneezing like crazy. Also, I think my lymph nodes are swollen or something because my armpits hurt real bad, they feel sore and swollen.
I’m really worried getting sick is going to affect how my scars heal or just the healing process in general. On the other hand, should I not be too worried that I got sick now since my immune system is already focusing on healing myself? I’m just trying to think positively but also want to be realistic. Haven’t had a fever and I’ve been testing negative for covid.
I’m seeing my doctor tomorrow for my first post op appointment. I’m pretty sure I will be getting my drains out as the output has been less than 15ml for more than 3 days now. Fingers crossed being sick won’t change anything.
Anyone else experience getting sick shortly after getting top surgery? Was there anything you did that helped get through it?

2024.05.13 21:28 Imaginary-Load8491 Thoughts? I don’t feel it’s Raynaud’s disease as I have a lot of other weird symptoms. Back- Story below

Thoughts? I don’t feel it’s Raynaud’s disease as I have a lot of other weird symptoms. Back- Story below
So clearly these are my feet and hands.. sorry that last photo I have some ink on the bottom of my foot as I was tattooing and spilled tattoo ink and stepped In it but these are what my feet and hands look like almost 100% of the time. Basically I guess maybe I’m asking if anyone’s had this and it turn out to not be Raynaud’s disease, I get mouth ulcers, swollen tongue, swollen sublingual glands at times, I struggle with my weight (keeping my weight on) prior to when this started 5 years ago, I was always a healthy wait 120lbs-130lbs now I’m lucky if I’m 110 on a good day and it is always temporary. Before my last pregnancy I was 90lbs and I could not control it, thankfully I did get pregnant as it was getting scary and my drs failed to help me back then, or run any tests. and after having my son, I was 130 lbs when I gave birth to him and about a week later I was 115 lbs STRUGGLING to keep this weight on. As it felt good to not look like a little boy lol. But now I’m back to 105 lbs if I try really hard I can make it to 110 but it’s very temporary. So to the present day I’m struggling with regulating my body temperature my baseline can sit at 35 degrees Celsius, sometimes it’s normal but im usually very cold so I’m cold intolerant all the time and then if I’m in the heat I won’t I will get hit so hard out of no where and start gagging and sometimes I throw up in the heat. And it happens so fast I honestly don’t even realize that I’m hot. During the day, the passed week I’ll randomly just start gagging, hot or cold or normal.. of coarse I do deal with the body aches and pains all the time and feel feverish usually at the end of the day and shortness of breath sometimes very fast heart rate out of no where it’s just uncomfortable.
I guess what I’m saying or even asking is if anyone else has dealt with this I have ANA testing to do, and I’m so used to not getting answers not that I want it to be positive, but it’s been 5 years of this struggle literally getting worse that I’m at the point where I feel like I’m crazy. I have a wonderful internalize dr now that I just started seeing so it’s looking up. But I’m just so done with not having answers I’d rather be diagnosed so I can help myself I am tired, I need to be healthy for all my children and I feel like even some of my family thought I was going crazy because I visually didn’t look sick besides for my weight for so long but now you can see it and it scares them, and me obviously. My gp referred me to my internalist dr it’s saying she thinks it’s Behçet’s disease, why would she say that if she doesn’t know.
My feet and hands literally get so dark my family makes jokes my feet and hands are going to fall which like yeah it gets that bad it looks like they’re dying sometimes which is a scary thought
Anyone else struggle with this and it not be raynauds and it was something else I kind of am looking for similar experiences and answers.
Will be going to do my ANA testing here in a few days

2024.05.13 20:45 kne9707 Have had Herpes for like 20 years

1st outbreak in years
I got herpes like 20 years ago. My 1st outbreak was so bad. I thought I had strep and had 1 bump on my vagina. My throat hurt so bad. I have been very fortunate and only had like 3 outbreaks in my life. I have been under an enormous amount of stress during to ongoing GI issues for like 4 months which has really spiked my anxiety. I noticed like 4 or 5 days ago I had a bump in my vagina. No surprise. The last few days I noticed how sore my throat was which I thought was from acid reflux. On Friday I started having ringing in 1 ear and vertigo. I went to Minute Clinic and said ibhad some fluid but no infection gave me 5 days of steroids for the inflammation because my throat and glands are swollen. I have no other sinus congestion. Is it possible or has anyone else had an outbreak after so many years be really bad and affect them like the 1st? I have no fever either. Also is it too late now since it's been like 5 days to take acyclovir or valtrex and I have to just ride it out? I don't have any since I never get them. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or anything similar. I asked my GI Dr too if they thought it could be from the reflux and they said no. They said it wouldn't go up that for to affect my tonsils and ears and this sounds like allergies. I have post nasal drip too.

2024.05.13 17:47 eluting Bronchial asthma/asthmatic bronchitis

New to asthma, so a little back story I've never had breathing problems my entire life, but I noticed that 1-2 times a year colds would progress into acute bronchitis and I would fully recover from it. At the age of 15 I began to work out and my sicknesses stopped progressing into acute bronchitis, it would just be slight congestion for the next 3 years up until now (18F). I was not aware that I had mild asthma, so in April 2023 I had suppressed a cough and some mucus, I'm not sure if that was the trigger but it had turned into 1 years worth of mental pain, dry coughing, and feeling like I can't breathe. The doctors told me it was psychogenic after they said that my ct and xray were normal but i can hear gurgling coming out of my airways. Every time I wake up I am constantly congested so I use a nasal rinse. There is always yellow like secretions and the lingering cough + after initial infection goes away is always viral induced. Exercising, cold weather, every other thing in my life has never triggered any asthmatic symptoms. I went to see an asthmatic doctor and he told me I could have viral induced/ bronchial asthma and it just hasn't been treated properly. The cough back in april 2023 lasted for 3 months until it finally started clearing up in the right lung but not the left then I got covid jan 2024 and strep throat march 2024. I'm so tired I just want to know if finally getting the right meds will give me my lungs back.

2024.05.13 14:55 rowdyrecords Confused on my results and what is wrong. Thyroid, throat and now brain???

I am a 24 year old AFAB person, who identifies as male (FtM transgender).
I presented to my Dr in November with multiple symptoms. The main ones being pain everywhere after working (traffic control job). I had experienced pins and needles in both my hands and feet, pain down my back, neck, legs and arms. Muscle pain and joint pain.
I am obese. 113kg, 178cm and Drs had been telling me it's all because of my weight, but I had lost 20kg and was the most physically fit I had ever been. It started off with checking all my vitamins, in which my vitamin D and iron was low, started vitamins and they became normal.
She then checked my thyroid, my results for antibodies are: Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase : > 1300 IU/mL (< 60), and Anti-Thyroglobulin : 15.0 IU/mL (< 4.5). Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) : 5.38 mIU/L (0.50-4.00) and Free Thyroxine (Free T4) : 17.1 pmol/L (10.0-23.0). My cortisol is: 709 nmol/L (145-619).
So obviously there's issues with my thyroid. I had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism when I had those tests but my Dr said that it's not that bad and to not worry about it. I then started getting issues with swallowing, breathing, needing to clear my throat, and a dry cough, which has all gotten much worse. A month after those original blood test for my thyroid (and other autoimmune diseases, which were negative), I was put on 25mg of levothyroxine, she said for 5 days only. Day 3 of taking it, my throat got so much worse, waking up during the night coughing and choking. Stopped the medication and it stopped/got better (not 100% but not waking up 10 times throughout the night). Dr said to try again, I did, and after 1 day it happened again. I stopped for a week because I left them at a friend's house. I am day 2 back on them again today and it's getting worse already.
I had my results from my thyroid ultrasound results today, "CLINICAL NOTES Elevated TSH with autoimmune markers FINDINGS: An isolated finding of elevated TSH does not define the nature of thyroid dysfunction. The thyroid is normal in size. Right lobe 7 cc, left lobe 6 cc, isthmus 4 mm. The thyroid parenchyma is heterogenous and hypervascular in keeping with thyroiditis. There is no focal thyroid lesion. There is no indication for biopsy. There is no cervical lymphadenopathy. CONCLUSION: Heterogenous hypervascular thyroid." - my Dr said that my thyroid was swollen, despite what the results say? I also have a lump, see here.
I also had a lot of chest pain, and had to go to hospital after urgent care did and ECG, they didn't tell me why I needed to, and the hospital sent me home with "abnormal" ECG and "talk to your Dr". I then had an echocardiogram which showed nothing other than "your main artery to your heart is a little swollen but it's not concerning and we will check it again in 2 years".
I've had an xray of my spine and neck, an ultrasound of my thyroid, and a CT of my spine. I have 2 bulging discs in my lower back but apparently aren't pressing on any nerves or causing issues.
However, despite no answers, everything is getting worse. Much worse. It's getting to the point I'm gasping from air when I'm trying to sleep, when I'm awake, after coughing it takes me a while to really catch my breath.
My Dr has ordered I got get an MRI of my brain since I also have little black floaties, and flashing lights in my vision every now and again. Alongside the pins and needles, and numbing in my arms and legs. I also have a referral to get a lateral x-ray of my neck, alongside a script for Nizatidine.
So my current medications are: Testogel (testosterone) 12.5mg nightly, Levothyroxine 25mcg and Nizatidine (haven't started).
She didn't tell me why I need an MRI. She said there is nothing I can do for my thyroid and to just let it be. I'm stressed out because I'm not getting any answers, nothing is progressing and I'm just getting more and more tests that come back "fine" but my Dr said my thyroid was swollen when it's not. But I still have a weird lump that wraps around my neck, super uncomfortable throat symptoms that are affecting every waking second of my life, pain all over all the time.
I'm getting really sick of it, and I'm tired. I need to work, I'm broke and I just need answers. If there is anything I need to clarify, please let me know. I've got 16 pages of medical tests we did, lmfao.

2024.05.13 02:03 mr_swig What should my next step be?

Some info: 22F, currently taking prescribed lithium, birth control, and perindiprol for over two years History of high blood pressure, and mood disorder (both stabilised for a long time)
About 7 months ago I started getting extreme fatigue and generally feeling unwell to the point where tasks such as hygiene had to be spaced out over days instead of all being able to be done in one day as usual, I felt like I couldn't get off the couch because I was so physically exhausted. I started losing my appetite around that time too and felt sick eating.
I went to the doctor in January because forcing myself to get up wasn't working and I was offered antidepressants. I said I didn't want to go on them because I knew this wasn't an issue with depression as I've experienced it in the past and my mood was still perfectly fine. Blood test results came back and they had slightly high iron (resolved by itself) and slightly low vitamin D.
I then started getting a stabbing pain right undedirectly next to the bottom of my left rib. This wasn't constant, but it was multiple times a day and extremely painful, when it wasn't there it was usually an ache. I also started getting short of breath very easily and when I tried to sleep I would struggle because I couldn't breathe properly (I've gotten used to how to put my pillows to make it easier now)
I went to the doctor for this in February and he ordered a chest X ray which came back with "unknown densities in the lungs" and prescribed me antibiotics which didn't work and I went back which he prescribed another round with penicillin free which didn't work.
Around this time the lymph nodes under my jaw started swelling. After about a couple of weeks, more started swelling in my neck and on my collarbones which were smaller ones.
I started having a low grade fever for an extended period of time and I went to the doctor in early April and asked about my lymph nodes where he did an examination and checked all of them except what was in my collarbones. I got an ultrasound which said they were most likely reactive in origin and to repeat in three months if not resolved.
I went back to the doctor last week and ordered a blood test again hoping I could at least find what's wrong to fix it and asked for a test for EBV which my bloods said that everything is okay and EBV was a previous infection.
Throughout this whole experience I feel like my doctor isn't listening to me because he keeps cutting me off and disregarding the majority of what I have to say which I don't understand because I've seen him since I was 14 and have never come with an issue like this before. He's been a really good doctor in the past, but at the moment it feels like I'm just being rushed. For example, the first time I had gone for the blood test, he told me if it comes back fine I'm just being a sook. Or when I tried to explain that I was having pains, he cut me off to say that he didn't ask what type of pain I was feeling and ignored what I was saying all together.
At this point I am still have extreme fatigue, it feels like something is pressing on my throat, I'm still short of breath with chest pains and a dry cough, my lymph nodes have gotten bigger and have moved to my right armpit, still getting that pain under my ribs, and I've lost 15kg (was slightly overweight, still in the healthy weight range)
I don't really know where to go from here and it all feels a bit hopeless, so I was wondering if there's anything I can do to make this better or figure out what's going on so I can get it treated. It's really hard and I don't think I'm being taken seriously, but I have to deal with this 24/7 and it's really hard.
Any advice would really be appreciated, thank you :)

2024.05.12 21:35 maxiedaniels Positive for Moraxella catarrhalis, really confused trying to research it

Let me start by saying I have a "mild" form of cystic fibrosis, along with chronic idiopathic neutropenia (severe levels but usually bening). 36M. I am being seen by a handful of great doctors already. But I'm just really curious here - my daughter brought home a cold the other day from daycare, my wife got it, I got it. Really mild. Then three days later, I got hit super hard - chills, aches, major congestion, major coughing, bright green mucus, lethargic.
I couldn't reach my CF doctor over the weekend so i went to urgent care, and they tested for a lot of stuff. I tested positive for "rhinovirus/enterovirus" and "Moraxella catarrhalis". The first one I understand as just standard cold. The second one confuses me a lot, because half the websites i'm reading have seemingly conflicting info:
  1. Is it always present in your body (well, in your 'normal flora') or is it something you catch (like from a toddler)
  2. Is it contagious in the sense that my wife needs to be cautious around me? Or is it only contagious to people with weakened systems?

2024.05.12 19:44 0part_whole0 Help W Side Effects!

I am on week 2 of Bupropion, 100MG SR, moving up to 300 in 4 weeks.
I felt sick, had body aches, and was irritable the first week but it didn't effect my life at all and I was productive/busy and in good spirits overall. Noticed some positive mental effects but not really in terms of energy...I also take adderall 15 mg XR and 5 mg IR as needed. The adderall was not hitting like it normally does but I also felt like I didn't have to take as much of it.
Mainly what I noticed was that I felt a lot less distracted, and felt less of a need to make impulsive decisions to distract myself. For example, I normally drink every day (a good amount and not socially) and am definitely a high functioning alcoholic, but haven't had a drink or felt any desire to drink in over a week (in fact a drink kinda sounds horrible...). The same goes with any other type of distraction that I normally engage in.
As of yesterday I am really starting to feel really sick. Nasty migraines, lightheaded, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, cough, just generally shitty. I felt fine yesterday morning and then bam felt horrrrible in the afternoon. There were so many things i wanted to do and i just could not move. I will say that since I was crashing during the day I started to take the meds at night, and that was the night before I started to feel really horrible...I also didn't eat anything yesterday until about 2 or 3PM so idk. I'll probably go back to mornings.
In general I have been eating regularly, drinking water, and sleeping relatively well recently. Plus I haven't been drinking so i feel like I should be feeling better not worse!
Also, I think I should mention that I kind of always feel like shit but that's because of not eating, drinking, not sleeping etc...and am still high functioning so the fact that I feel this bad is telling me something is really wrong...
I understand that this is normal for the second week and i'm ready to tough it out, but I have a really busy week coming up and I cannot afford to drop the ball right now.
Does anyone have advice for getting through these kinds of symptoms or anything they can share about their experience in this regard?

2024.05.12 14:55 Jaid2175 Persistent dry cough - nothing helps

Hi all! I’m a 30 year old female. In general good health and does not have any other underlying conditions.
So I have had a terrible dry cough for the past 2 weeks. No other symptoms, I’m not even congested. It feels like there is this persistent tickle that never goes away. I’ll go into coughing fits where I cough so much, I’ll make myself nauseous.
I have tried DayQuil, NyQuil, Robitussin, benzonate, and Flonase. I’ve tried herbal remedies like throat coat tea, honey, salt water gargle, and cough drops. Nothing helps. The cough syrup gives temporary relief, but only for a half hr or so. Urgent care said it’s from allergies, so I tried a week with Allegra, no help. Switched over to Claritin for the second week, no help again. Nothing is providing any relief. I think I’ve fried my vocal cords from coughing so much because by mid day, I have no voice. My whole body hurts coughing so much.
So I guess my questions are, is there an antibiotic that can even be prescribed to help this? Is there an allergy med that works the best for dry cough? Will I ever feel normal again? Wondering if it’s worth the trip back to urgent care.

2024.05.12 12:08 skilledbeans Coughing up light green phlegm every 30-60 minutes at the end of a cold.

[33][male] , 5'7, 220. Primary complaint is that i'm on the tail end of a bad cold/respitory illness and i'm coughing up thick, light green phlegm every 30 minutes to an hour. I have no fever, I can breath fine, sp02 levels normal, no chest tightness, no aches or pains. The coughing up phlegm started yesterday and i'm concerned I have bronchitis/pneumonia. I don't smoke, drink, or use recreational drugs. I also have a mild dry cough when i'm not coughing up the green phlegm. When I feel the phlegm it comes up very easily, usually I'll force a cough and I can spit it right out. Tested negative for covid twice, negative for strep. The symptoms I had but have gone away are painful sore throat, congestion, front headache. The only symptoms I currently have are very light congestion/mild runny nose, dry cough, mucus producing cough with green phlegm. Help please
