2024.05.14 23:09 KakyoinCherries My boyfriend fails to treat me right after a year

So, for context, me and my boyfriend (I’m 16, he 15) have been together for a year (since February of 2023) and we’re in an online relationship. We haven’t actually met each other, but we know what each other looks like and ages and we live 40-50 minutes apart.
Recently, he’s beginning to act different towards me. Hs best friend and my best friend are exes, so me and his best friend are sworn enemies/at each others throats and we have little to no mutual friends. He is always with his friends and spends little to no time with me. Im always messaging him first, starting conversations, hell, I even say good morning and good night first and it’s been happening for as long as I can remember (unless I fall asleep while talking to him and he says good morning). Currently, I haven’t talked to him because I forgot to text him one day.
Being the person I am, I just thought “maybe he’ll text me first!” Nope. No reply. This goes on for a week. He’s always “too scared to talk to me” which I understand , but it’s been a year since we’ve been together and he knows I’m rarely mad at him. I give him his space to play with his friends, which I feel like he prioritizes more than me. I remember I wanted to my two friends to him yesterday and they messaged him to check up on him. Five minutes prior, I messaged him apologizing if I had upset him in any way, and guess what? I had to wait half an hour for a reply, and they had to wait ten minutes. And he said that he had been feeling down lately and tried to space himself between certain people and him, but at the same time, he’d go and talk to his friends and play Fortnite with them for 3+ hours. I’m not “certain people” or some friend He talks to every two days I’m his boyfriend, and if anyone, I should be knowing about at least a third of his problems. He’s always so secretive.
Just today, he put him and someone else forming a heart with their hands on his story (my friend sent me a screenshot) and I was heartbroken. By the way, we don’t talk outside of discord, he doesn’t even send me TikTok’s or Instagram reels, or play together unless it’s something he wants to like Fortnite. I remember we played VRC every Saturday at 10pm and after two weeks, I had to start begging him to play with me. Ultimately, i stopped asking him after another incident where I had gave him an extra hour to play his game. After an hour, I messaged him if he was ready and just replied “I just got off my game” and I was expecting him to get on. I sit on my living room couch waiting for him to join, but after 10 minutes, I decided to (without his awareness, go online in the same game he “just got off”, only to see him online. I cried my ass off that night.
From here on, I’m just going to speak about incidents from my perspective. On our one year anniversary, I had spent weeks on animal crossing trying to make my island cute and presentable to him just for him to not be able to make it. So, instead of trying to play another game, we just spent our one year anniversary, as always, in discord talking. He also is not the best at communicating. Whenever someone tries to be serious with him, he just sends a stupid video/photo not relevant to the message at all and doesn’t respond afterwards and it makes me feel as if he would do the same to me. There was also a separate time where I was in a gc with him, his best friend, and a couple of their friends whom I don’t know. A month after the friend group we were in split up, I saw them shit talking me. And in that moment, I was like “you know what, let them say what they want, I don’t even meS with them anymore so there’s no point in saying anything” until he comes online. Instead of being a good boyfriend and defending me, he joins them. And you know what was worse? Me and him were playing a game at the moment. WHILE he was doing that. Not only, but he said “oh it would be so fun if we (talking to his best friend) played with so-and-so” is it not fun playing with me? When he was finally done bitching, He told them he was too tired to play anymore. Not me, his boyfriend, but his friends, so I got off. No Check ins, no dms asking why I left, nothing. But you know what really pissed me off? Literally TEN minutes after I got off, he’s on the game with his friends. I love him so much, but he breaks my heart.
By the way, you know what’s funny? I’ve been trying SO hard and putting SO much effort into our relationship with zero experience or past relationships whatsoever, but he’s been in so many yet fails to treat me properly.

2024.05.14 23:08 dk133333 Notifier SFP-400 / 4xAMB REV F Randomly disabling Zone 1??

Hello there
So, there is this older (late 90's) SFP-400 setup that got a board replacement (went from a revision D to F) after some caps popped and it was cheaper to replace than have ME (electronics repair) fix it. The board has been put in place (with no additional modules), controls two zones plus a sprinkler zone for about two years now just fine. Got a call and the customer intermittently gets a solid amber light on System Trouble and a solid amber trouble light on zone 1. As a courtesy I took a look.
The first issue i noticed is a "cycling" of the LED lights on the panel (slight strobe effect - like very dirty power). I checked Hz and found it to be 59.8-60.1 - so well within spec. AC power is where it should be as well. However I do hear a ticking sound from around the transformer..
I checked the power at the board for zone 1 - 26.1VDC
I check the power at the EOL resistor for zone 1 - 24.5VDC --- There are 9 items/devices in zone 1 (pulls, detectors)
I checked the batteries and they are all set.
I checked resistance / continuity on zone 1 from at the panel disconnected and from EOL. the resistor does show in testing as well.
I googled around and found an installation manual for this panel. In it, it indicates that a solid amber on System Trouble and a solid Trouble light on a zone indicates the zone is disabled and to reference installation? This does make sense because
-It just started happening after a few years of seamless operation
-It also is intermittent. A reboot of the panel clears the error for several minutes to a week (roll of the dice)
I am just not sure how to advise these folks. It seems like it should work fine and i suspect dirty power but it plain just doesn't effect other zones at all ( and i did test those and they came out roughly the same). This seems like a super simple system and it should just work.
What am i missing here? Where do i go from here?
Thank you for any help in advance!

2024.05.14 23:07 barnstormer1993 $ Belmar - Luke Belmar coin is pumping - already at 400k a few hours after launch

Roaring kitty (or should we call him u/deepfuckingvalue) is back with the bang and has caused yet another major shake up in the meme stock market. We’ve all seen how this narrative has caused several wallstreetbets related tickers to pump in the solana memecoin space with GME already having reached over $100m in market cap.
The way a single influencer can cause a major pump is both ludicrous and bullish for other coins that are related to a particular influencer. In this vain, a new coin ‘$Belmar’ based off Luke Belmar has launched and has already racked up a 500k market cap in the first few hours since launch. For those that have been sleeping under a rock Luke Belmar is amongst crypto twitter’s biggest shining lights with 480k followers and is the founder of the business podcast ‘The Capital Club’. There are rumours swirling that he is aware of the project and keeping a close eye on it with the view of joining when it reaches over 7 figures in market cap.
Aside from the bullish early price action, the telegram channel has already reached 500 members in under 2 hours with up to 100 people vibing on the VC. Furthermore, the team have plenty of marketing budget ready to take Belmar to the 7 figures.
For me personally, the news around Luke being aware of this coin and potentially ready to push it has got me seriously bullish andas such i’ve taken a punt.
As always, DYOR.

2024.05.14 23:06 DrBlackJack21 Of Men and Ghost Ships, Book 1: Chapter 17

Chapter 1

Concept art for
Sybil
Of Men and Ghost Ships, Book 1: Chapter 17
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, Carter met an AI who looked like an old-earth pirate, and now he met an alien who looked like an old-earth viking. Well, if that viking stood nearly eight feet tall, had fangs and claws that could put some daggers to shame, and a bony carapace armor seemingly covering most of his vital organs. He wasn't sure if he just had some odd luck when it came to encountering the weirdest entities the universe had to offer or if he was at the butt of some galactic joke.
Carter showed Erik how to use the goo dispenser, to which the larger alien made a face but managed to politely keep any complaints to himself as they both got a bowl and sat down at a table with Sybil's two robotic guards passively waiting not far from the table. As he sat down, Cater couldn't help but ask. "So, Erik, huh?"
Before he could ask his question, the behemoth of a man laughed. "Yes, it's a human name. I was 'raised,' for lack of a better term, by pirates who gave me the name. No, I don't know where I came from or even if there are more like me somewhere out there. Long story short, I got my freedom the hard way, and ever since, I've just been trying to get by in this galaxy!"
That answered several of Carter's questions without him having to ask them. " Get asked those a lot, do you?"
Erik nodded while he tried a spoonful of the much, then looked down at the bowl with surprise before taking another bite. "You could say that! Probably the most common questions I get right after people screaming incoherently or begging for their lives. Not that those are questions, but I kinda feel like they're implied, if you know what I mean!"
Carter nodded cautiously. "Do you get that a lot? People begging for their lives, I mean?"
The bigger alien grinned. "Well, yeah! And more than half the time, I didn't even do anything to warrant it! Guess I'm just too big and scary for my own good!"
Carter made a show of taking a bite of his own mint-flavored sludge. "And the other half of the time?"
Erik shrugged, but Carter couldn't help but notice his grin became just a bit more predatory. "Well, let's just say I don't start many fights, but I sure do end a lot of them! Guess I seem like an easy mark or something!"
Carter suspected it was the "or something" but decided not to push the issue. Instead, he figured maybe he could bring up some common ground. "So, not a big fan of pirates then?"
The larger alien shook his head., "No, I like them just fine! Why, they're just about my favorite thing to test the sharpness of my axes on!"
Carter looked at his dining companion skeptically. "Axes? Really? In this day and age?"
Erik laughed. "Yeah, yeah, I know, they're not the most efficient weapons out there, and I'm not above using some more traditional armaments in a pinch, but I tell ya, there's nothing more satisfying than cleaving through a battle suite in hand-to-hand combat with a good heavy axe! Sides, I got used to them back when I fought as a gladiator."
Carter supposed he should have been ready for a crazy story, but he still found himself surprised for the umpteenth time in one conversation. "Wait, wait, wait... You were a gladiator? Like as in an arena, fight to the death kinda thing?"
Erik laughed again. "Yeah, pretty much! However I ended up fighting monsters more than people. There weren't many pirates willing to get in the ring with me, even with a battle suit, and I wasn't willing to kill any ordinary folk who got thrown in with me. Thankfully, I was too big a draw for them to just execute for refusing to kill normals, though I'm sorry to say they didn't get out of the situation any better than if I had. Still, I've killed more than my fair share of wild beasties! They even managed to bring in this giant wolf-like monster with a bladed tail. It was the size of a moose! I kid you not! I got no idea where they found that monster, but it would have killed me for sure if it hadn't been for Vanessa backing me up. Even then, we were both out of commission for the better part of a month after that one. Well, we might have been fit to go a bit before that, but that was the one that made us decide it would be considerably better for our health if we got out of the gladiator business sooner rather than later!"
Oddly enough, Carter found himself grinning along with Erik despite the nature of the story. There was just something about the guy that made listening to him ramble on about stuff kinda fun. Despite his thick accent, or maybe partially because of it, the man was a heck of a storyteller. However, now that the story seemed to have come to an end, the larger alien seemed to think for a moment before asking his own question. "So tell me, captain, where's the rest of your crew? The only ones I've seen since coming aboard are you and your robotic monsters!" He pointed back at the two escorts Sybil provided.
Carter looked askance at the alien. "I invited two aliens who look like they might be able to pick a fight with a full squad of commandos and come out on top, and you're wondering where my crew is?"
Erik kind of nodded and laughed again. "Yeah, I guess that tracks! No sense puttin' everyone at risk when you don't know nothin' about us, and we won't be here very long, is there? Speaking of, how much longer is my friend's treatment gonna take?"
The word "friend" was a surprising choice. Was Erik just using it as a general term, or did he really consider the kid he'd hauled onboard the ship a friend? Carter supposed it didn't matter. Instead, he figured he might as well find out. "Hey, Sybil, how's the treatment going?"
The girl appeared. "Well, the patient looks like he'll pull through. However, given the nature of his injury and how long it's been since he received it, we cannot save his foot. We're discussing whether he would like a temporary replacement or if he'd rather a replacement be grown in a better-stocked facility."
-
Alen looked at the disturbingly attractive woman in shock. "What do you mean you're gonna lop off my foot?"
The woman in red just looked annoyed with him for some reason. "I mean just that. Your foot is too badly damaged to save. I can fit you with a temporary replacement, but that'll come with some unpleasant side effects while you adjust and again if it's removed. Alternatively, you could just wait and have an organic replacement grown at another facility and bypass the side effects, but you will be short a foot for however long that takes. Now choose. It'll determine where I cut through the bone and nerves."
Having just woken up from his drugged sleep, Alen had assumed the surgery was over, but apparently, they were still in the middle of treatment. His head was still somewhat groggy as he fought through the haze to understand and decide. "Um, well, I don't know when I'll be able to get anything better, but...uh...how unpleasant are we talking here?"
The attractive woman crossed her arms and glared at him as if he was wasting her valuable time. "It varies from one individual to the next, but the side effects can range from mild discomfort to occasional sharp pains strong enough to require medical intervention."
That was when another voice spoke up from behind Alen. He quickly realized it was Vanessa. "Is it not possible for you to deaden the pain receptors in the area while leaving enough nerve function to enable the use of the replacement?"
The woman in red shook her head. "Pain is an essential tool, especially if we're fitting him with a temporary replacement. It'll let him know if something's gone wrong. Without it, he could get an infection or even tear something without realizing it. It's better to err on the side of leaving too much sensation than too little. It can always be adjusted at a proper facility as needed."
On the one hand, that really sounded unpleasant. But on the other hand, who knew how soon Alen could get a replacement grown? What would he do in the meantime? "Uh... I guess...if I have to pick one... I'll take the temporary replacement..."
The lady in red gave only a brief acknowledgment. "About time." Then, before Alen could have second thoughts, the world went dark again.
-
The girl nodded as if receiving some unheard report. "Well, that settles it. He'll be getting a temporary replacement. It'll take a bit longer as we'll have to fit him with some attachments for the augmatics. A rough approximation puts the remaining time at an hour and a half. We should finish cannibalizing the pirate vessel shortly afterward."
Carter turned toward his guest. "Well, there you have it..."
However, the girl interrupted him again before he could finish his thoughts. "Sir, we've got more incoming. There are more of them, and they're more dispersed this time..."

2024.05.14 23:04 Mahakramo A child's miraculous/enlightening 2nd message straight after a few hours of its luminous birth! Paramahamsa Sri Vishwananda

Who is Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda? (part 2)
Birth and early childhood
Introduction to part 2
When we see a young child or animal playing joyfully, we sense the comforting presence of the nearby mother, even if she's out of our sight.
When we observe smoke from a distance, we can infer that a fire is active.
Every experience we've had or will have speaks of a deeper reality beyond what meets the eye. This is true for everything, whatever it might ever be. Even a seemingly simple plant that is growing in a certain place and ways, is speaking deeply about its whole neighbourhood.
Like Sherlock Holmes, who decoded hidden clues, we too can uncover open yet hidden truths in our surroundings. He trained that skill to such a degree that allowed him to piece together seemingly unrelated information to solve complex cases. This was not born from fantasy but from deepawareness and knowledge about nature's interconnected realities. With this in mind stay alert as true story is unfolding further.
Part 2. Post Birth - His first 12 hours on Earth and second message to all the world
It is still Tuesday night June 13th 1978 Rose Hill; local hospital, Mauritius Island. Mother and child are well after that illuminating birth event*, and thus ready to return back home. Home. Meaning, a somewhat common house within a typical Mauritian neighbourhood surrounded by some non-vegetated grounds that keeps them “easy to have”. Thus supporting the child’s father’s busy life as a grounds man by not adding any further duties to his occupied life.
On reaching home the house is saturated with the aura of love, serenity, gratitude, sparkling curiosity and joy that a new born is naturally gifting a family with. Time is standing still. However, life is flowing its never resting courses wherein everyone finds ones duties according to ones inherited roles. But not only the grown-ups! Also the new born child is preparing for the revelation of its second message, utilising the sight covering dark of this most auspicious first night as a “Chatur Mukha"** family.
It is early morning June 14th 1978, hardly 12 hours after the child’s luminous birth and first message to all the world, when the rising of the sun is revealing to the early rising father an autonomously, rapidly growing Tulsi garden on the house’s once so comfortably barren grounds!
Bushes of TULSI! OMG! Tulsi... of all things! How could this even be possible ever?!One of the most delicate and challenging plants to be cultivated. Tulsi, who requires much of direct sunlight and care to grow, including a well regulated and balanced watering care. Plentifully growing in a single winter's lightless night(!) on once barren ground! But not enough. The foremost of Tulsi's requests for successful healthy growths is an atmosphere of loving care and devotion!
Which must be one of the reasons why, since ancient times, Tulsi is considered as being a "Goddess" Herself.
Try to put yourself into the shoes of that innocently awakening father who must be struck by utter surprise and even serious confusion upon being confronted with this completely inconceivable reality ! What shall he do with that?! What on "God's Holy Earth" is going on here?! What does all that mean? Where does it even come from all of a sudden?! Of what relief would a Sherlok Holmes' mind have been in such a situation! Wouldn't you agree?
"Tulsi" or "Holy Basil" and the indicating significance of its presence
Unlike many places on Earth, on the island of Mauritius Hindus, Christians, Muslims and others are living in mutual acknowledgement together peacefully, which invites to weave in empress' Sainte Helene's interconnected story with our story line here. Sainte Helene had been endowed with the task of finding the Holy Cross of Christ +/- 320 years after the resurrection, which otherwise would have got lost in the course and dynamics of time. At the very site where the Holy Cross finally had been found, vital bushes of Holy Basil/Tulsi ("Ocimum tenuiflorum" or "Ocimum sanctum”) had been found growing above of it. Indicating the presence of a hidden yet vivid source of radiating, unconditional Love. Just as in 1978 on Mauritius island in the form of this new born child.
What a déjà-vu! Humbly introducing itself through Mother nature's preferred language of meaningful silence saturated with essential signs powerfully resonating within those hearts which are bearing the hidden flower of love and longing for the deepest of all love forms that this child is reminding us of once again. Despite nature seemingly neglecting all common conditions for Tulsi's growth that night, the child innocently reconnects us with the depth and eternal care of that all fulfilling, all satisfying divinity.
And thus Tulsi and the child are mutually bearing witness for one another’s purity, nature of divine character and the eternally trans-religious, trans-cultural and finally all transcending reality of pure love, which is the true and eternal home of all. That love that satisfies all needs on all levels, under all circumstances for all those who take refuge into it. Into Him, the eternal ONE. Into any of HIS innumerable forms. But remember, He is never forcing Himself on anyone in any way. He is "Just Love", patiently waiting for us to actively join with Him.
The profoundly enlightening impact of Paramahamsa Sri Vishwananda's teachings and presence continues to grow and heal the lives of ten thousands of grateful people who meet him. His tangible message of love, compassion, and unity has brought together people from most diverse backgrounds and faiths, transcending the boundaries of culture and tradition.
The child's birth and the miraculous growth of the Tulsi garden are living symbols of this unity, awakening us to how love and devotion in action can bridge even the widest of gaps. These events remind us that each of us shares an eternal, tangible, and deeply personal relationship with the Divine. The kindling and fostering of this connection, never-ending, is alive as "Bhakti Marga", the path of Love and Devotion, for all who are simply 'Lovers of God', from all walks of life.Think for a moment. HE is here on this planet right now. Together with you! He might be just around your "next corner", right now!
Take yourself a minute or a few. Call Him internally in the intimacy of your heart. Call His Name. Paramahamsa Vishwananda…. Paramahamsa Sri Vishwananda… and see, feel what is going to happen. Come and see Him. Meet Him online… Think of Him. Ask Him for any help. Anytime. Ask Him to inspire you, now within your heart. HE is listening! HE is responding! … Take it as a certainty.
Share it freely if you want and be very happy….

2024.05.14 23:04 bradbradenson Guide: Exporting Playlists from Music (iTunes) to HiBy R3 II on Mac

TL;DR: There is a relatively painless way to export playlists from Music (iTunes) on Mac to a HiBy R3
Background (skip to 'Solution' if you got here from Google and don't care): I may be a corner case here, but I'm posting this here in case someone else ends up in my situation. This does involve a paid app from the App Store, but it's pretty cheap, and well worth it if you're in this situation.
I use the Music app (fka iTunes) to manage my music library. iTunes is not great but it's kind of the least bad option on mac. My library doesn't nearly fit on my phone, so I also recently bought a HiBy R3 II, so I would have a way to listen in the car, at work, etc..
Obviously the HiBy doesn't integrate with iTunes, and I wouldn't expect it to, but the question did arise: how the hell do I get my playlists onto this thing? Exporting .m3u files from iTunes doesn't work. The files are encoded weird, they use absolute paths with forward slashes, and the HiBy seemingly can't handle headers. Also, exporting .m3u files from iTunes requires clicking File/Library/Export Playlist... for every individual playlist. Not great!
Solution: One prerequisite is that you store music files on your HiBy with the same folder structure as your iTunes library. I personally just copied the entire contents my library folder (/Users/xxxxx/Music/Music/) to a folder called Music/ on the HiBy SD card.
And that's it! The process is lengthy on the first go-around, but you only have to set up the template once and subsequent runs are pretty quick. Hopefully this is helpful to the small handful of folks who find themselves in my situation.

Former U.S. Marine's links to China may land him in jail for life
The case of a former US fighter pilot accused of providing military secrets to China, as highlighted in a segment on "60 Minutes Australia," underscores the complexities and risks associated with espionage and international security breaches. The allegations against the pilot raise concerns about the potential compromise of sensitive information and the implications for national security.
The segment likely delves into the background of the accused pilot, exploring their military career and the circumstances leading to the accusations. It may detail the specific nature of the alleged secrets shared with China, shedding light on the methods used to obtain and transmit this information.
Moreover, the program likely examines the broader implications of such actions, including the potential impact on US-China relations and the measures taken by authorities to prevent and address similar security breaches in the future.
Overall, the segment likely serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by governments in safeguarding classified information and underscores the need for vigilance and robust security protocols in an increasingly interconnected world.

2024.05.14 23:02 Wilmaaaaa He is so emotionally abusive

I just found this group and been reading posts. Omg many of your experiences I resonated heavily with. I’ve been with my SO for 8 years and we have 2 young kids together. I’ve been thinking for a few weeks that my SO has BPD and been reading about it. I’m not sure how to bring it up without sparking an argument from him or how to ask him to see someone to help manage his anger. I tried to encourage therapy, but he got really mad and said I need therapy like it was a bad thing. I told him “I would love to but you know I can’t afford it right now with my part time job.” That made him even more madder.
I suggested to him to move his car I don't think it'd be a good idea to park in our neighbor's parking spot because I don't want them to get mad at us. I get yelled at about how he doesn't care about anyone else, he will do what he's want to do, I should have not said anything at all, just say "okay" when he tells me that he's not going to do that, instead of interjecting my opinion about wanting to be respectful of other people's spaces.
He blew up on me when I asked when will we start taking couples trips together because he wanted to go to Vegas on a guy's trip. I didn't say he can't go, but he been going on several trips all without me lately and I've been feeling left out. He got mad saying if I wanted to go on trips, go make reservations and stuff. He yelled at me like I said "no you can't go on this trip" like I'm his mom. It was like he was trying to get me to be like that, but I refused to give him what he wanted, I said "it is your choice if you want to go. I never said you can't go, I will support you if you want to go." I knew he was feeling guilty because he knew I've been feeling like he wasn't prioritizing me, but was fighting hard to get me to be the bad guy.
He didn't have his glasses on so he couldn't see if he had any more underwear in the dryer that I haven't gotten to yet. I just couldn't help him at the moment because I was busy getting our two kids ready for school. I get screamed at about how he's going to do his own laundry from now on because he felt I was unreliable for making sure he has clothes for work. He finished getting dressed and stormed off. I checked the dryer, he had about 7 pairs in the dryer.
He defends himself in arguments where he says he feels like he's walking on eggshells, he goes from 0-60 whenever I show a slight tone of annoyance or sadness when I'm speaking, that goes for facial expressions too, he'll mock my expression and exaggerate it. He laughed at me when I cried a few times, most time he'll just go "what now??" All I wanted was a genuine apology and a loving hug.
All I get is blamed for everything, yet he says he love me and want to be with me but I just need to "chill". When he goes off on me and I believe that's when he's splitting, I let him talk and he gets meaner and meaner. I'm sitting here so stunned by how comfortable he is saying all these mean things about me to my face but because of my mental health training background, I'm able to actively listen and I think this intimidate him. I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm desperately trying so hard to not give him the ammo he needs but I feel guilty at the same time. He gets so surprised and laugh when I tell him "You will not talk to me like that".
How do you help manage this? Do you leave? Do you stay if he gets help? Someone told me BPD is really hard to love. I don't want to marry someone hard to love, but will therapy help him become a loving man if he actually does have BPD? I don't know what to do.

2024.05.14 22:58 Carrots-1975 Why don’t they pay attention to their surroundings?

Went to the gym this afternoon and started feeling really weak and shaky right as I was about to start my last set of exercises. I have issues with hypoglycemia sometimes so I decided to ditch the workout and stop for a sugary drink to try and get my blood sugar up.
Walk to the back of a gas station to grab my can of soda then head to the two registers up front- one is a regular register and the other is self checkout. There’s a boomer lady at the self checkout but she can’t figure out how to use it. There are 2 employees chit chatting just standing behind the regular register, not making any move to acknowledge me or check me out so I have to wait for the boomer lady to figure out the self checkout. A third employee comes to help walk her through it and she goes to pay… with cash. She then proceeds to slowly bend over to get her change, then fumble opening her change purse to put away the coins, then fumble to find the right compartment for the bills. (She was moving in the most languid, sloth-like fashion. I have never seen another human move so slowly).
Up to this point, no big deal. I’m more irritated at the employees not doing their jobs than her. But my blood sugar is dropping so I’m in a bit of a hurry. Then, she proceeds to start asking about the self checkout. How does it work- do you have to scan everything or do you just place it on the pad, etc. Then starts complaining about technology and that “I prefer human interactions”. All the while a line is forming behind me and this woman, doing her best impersonation of a sloth, just continues to stand in front of the only checkout and make an issue about how she doesn’t trust these machines, etc. she finally starts to leave and I share a commiserating glance with the employee she had been talking at.
It sounds mean with me commenting on how slow she was moving, I mean I know she was old and while she looked healthy who knows what health issues she was dealing with. Just be self aware- surely she’s noticed how slowly she moves (especially if it’s from a health issue) so why wouldn’t you just move out of line so the next person could go while you gather your stuff. I paid for my drink, got in my car, and pulled into traffic before she had even fully made it to her car. That’s how slowly she was moving LOL

2024.05.14 22:57 Trevorlahey1 Trip Report - 13 days Panama

I wanted to give back a bit after receiving some great information from folks on this sub before a (very short notice and sparsely planned) solo trip to Panama in late April/early May of 2024. I'm subtitling this post "I did a lot in Panama so you don't (necessarily) have to". Truth be told, I started the trip with 4 nights and one in-country flight booked and built the rest of my itinerary on the fly. I definitely could have used an extra week or so before the trip to do some itinerary planning, deeper research on where I chose to stay, etc. but I really enjoyed most of the trip and would absolutely recommend Panama as a solo trip destination.
Rough pre-departure itinerary:
I arrived in Panama City on time and took an Uber straight to Selina (cost $28). The Selina there is in a decent location, kind of on the edge of Casco Viejo but walkable to everything. I checked in and was told there was a welcome happy hour with a free drink and a free walking tour every day at 10. The 6-person dorm had a dedicated bathroom, but wasn't much for the price ($30/night) and I'm just now realizing I booked a 4-person dorm then was put in the wrong lodging... There is a bar and allegedly a pool on the roof of the property, but the pool was not open when I was there. The welcome drink was an underwhelming event, though I did meet a few cool people I ended up doing more with later. There really isn't much in the way of common space at Selina Casco Viejo and I found it to be overpriced, underwhelming, and not a great place to meet people. I ended up booking the canal tour ($60ish) with them (which was via the personal vehicle of the guide, a small sedan cramming 4 of us in plus the driver), but I did a different free walking tour after hearing poor reviews of the one provided by Selina. While Selina felt like a huge waste (would not recommend this location), I really liked Casco Viejo. The food was surprisingly good, especially ceviche at Marea https://maps.app.goo.gl/MdWBJ1uw4mWLB7r2A and a nice stop for middle eastern at Estambul Casco https://maps.app.goo.gl/qFq8wAm5NEzJw84F8 . I also made a quick stop with some people from the hostel at La Fabrica https://maps.app.goo.gl/WdAG1KAhwmkj1TbS8 which had a decent tap list and cool vibe and the Pedro Mandinga Rum bar (highly recommend) for some beers and a rum flight https://maps.app.goo.gl/seXCnetthN18BbUB9 . I also, as a cigar smoker, made a stop at the official La Casa del Habano store https://maps.app.goo.gl/uhswvnFPe1Y1Uzbu9 where the staff was chill and the cigarum selection was good. I finished out my cigar and partook in a bit of happy hour across the street at Finca del Mar which had a decent outdoor area for a drink https://maps.app.goo.gl/kPSiTHdd2mJmtakGA but the food was not recommended so I didn't try it.
I was up early to get to David on Sunday morning, so I figured I'd just grab food and coffee at the airport lounge (mistake). It turns out the Copa flight to David departs from the "domestic" gate, which is a standalone area on the ground floor of the airport. There are no amenities, just a single vending machine, and you get bussed to the plane. Do not go early for a David flight, security was very easy and I ended up waiting in the small seating area for way too long. The flight was fine, but don't expect to access a lounge or coffee shop after security.
I got to David pretty early and hadn't done my research on transit, but knew there was public bus service to Boquete. I was trying to figure out how to get to the bus terminal when a taxi offered to drive me all the way to Boquete for $40 which seemed like a decent deal so I went for it. Boquete is pretty small, a little mountain town with a relaxed vibe. I spent quite a bit of time at the brewery which, if you know craft beer pretty well, wasn't the best on beer quality but had good live music and a fun atmosphere https://maps.app.goo.gl/EJFiRiwQsbJ89UPa9 . I worked from here a little bit too, definitely where I spent the most time. I got a delicious dinner at RetroGusto which was really reasonable https://maps.app.goo.gl/8gcU1GHqXrfbTCoX9 and a good lunch at Donde Giselle which was a little more expensive, but also delicious https://maps.app.goo.gl/uNsz1EqCDfnSpYfk8 . I did a coffee finca tour through Bambuda ($35) at Don Pepe. It was pretty cool, not a lot of walking but the guide was knowledgeable and we got to see the full operation in a small footprint. I bought one bag and was happy I did, they were 3 times the price in the airport on the way home. The Tres Cascadas (three waterfall) trail was a must, it does have a steep section that has ropes affixed to help but was otherwise a pretty straightforward trail. It did cost a few dollars to hike as it's on private property. I took a taxi there ($20) but took the bus back ($2.25). The bus comes by every 30-40 minutes and they generally wait a bit at the entrance to the trail from the road to see if people come down. We did end up picking up a whole bunch of kids leaving school, but it was pretty funny and we managed to fit everyone. I did do the Volcan Baru hike, which cost $18 for a taxi to the trailhead but was otherwise free. It is a grueling hike, it took a little over 5 hours for me to get to the top and I was not having fun. I was very lucky to encounter a couple who was dropped off at the same time at the trailhead and, while we did not hike together, we did take a few breaks together and it was nice to be within sight of their headlamps. It was COLD at the top and I was happy I had a light down jacket and a fleece. I did a good job of timing up my climb with the sunrise, only needing to wait at the top for maybe 30 minutes before the sun came up. You can go up in a jeep, and I was very lucky to beat the offroad vehicles up as they were very loud coming up the mountain. It did get pretty crowded at the top by the time all of the jeeps had emptied out and their clients climbed the last bit to the summit. The view was phenomenal, you can see both the Caribbean and the Pacific on a clear day and the sunrise was beautiful. It was a little annoying that the 6 of us who climbed it had to share with the 25 or so who rode up in cars, but worth it. One spot I wish I had visited, but it just didn't work out, was a wood fire pizza spot that came recommended by our coffee guide and by several travelers https://maps.app.goo.gl/T93KKqHxXoQ7AFhf6 . I got lucky at the Bambuda Castle as I booked a 3 bed room but had it to myself. It had a nice restaurant and common space within the castle itself that was a good working space and had a fantastic view. The food was pretty good, with a few vegetarian options and smoothies. It's a pretty decent walk from the center of town, and about $4-5 taxi ride from the Boquete center. If I went again, I would probably look to stay somewhere in the center of town but I don't regret giving the Castle a shot.
I traveled out of Boquete to Bocas del Toro the same day I did the Baru hike, leaving via shuttle at 1 PM ($37) which I arranged through Bambuda. I ended up using a discount QR code at Bambuda Castle to book their Bocas town Hostel for three nights. The shuttle was fine, but it's a quick trip through winding mountain roads so be prepared if you get carsick. A big bonus, that I would recommend you ask about, was that this shuttle did not go all the way to Almirante, but instead stopped at Chiriqui Grande and proceeded via small boat (lancha) from there. The longer boat trip was fantastic, much better than the long/boring road which runs the rest of the way. I got stopped right off the boat in by several people trying to sell tours and got one person's number for a potential $35 Cayo Zapatilla tour but didn't commit, choosing to get to Bambuda Bocas Town first and settle in before making decisions. While I wish I had spent some more time at either red frog beach or another island, with only 3 nights and having booked late my options were limited. For Bocas Town, Bambuda was great. The front desk folks were pretty helpful and the restaurant was good for breakfast (the vegetarian burrito option is better than the sandwich). The hostel deck goes right out to the lagoon, and it's always busy with people hanging out in the sun or jumping into the lagoon. It was a great spot to do some work over coffee and, frankly, I wish I had spent more time here or at the Bambuda Lodge. I ended up doing the Caya Zapatilla tour (highly recommend, if only for the stop at Caya Zapatilla) for $35 with the operator I met right off the boat. This included pick up and drop off from Bambuda, and they had a cooler that I threw a few Balboas of my own in for the trip. We did stop mid-way for lunch which was not included and was a little expensive. This was the only actual tour I did during my time there, I spent my other full day just kind of hanging out and went to Starfish Beach (not as nice as Caya Zapatilla, but worth an afternoon) with a group from the hostel. I also did salsa night at Selina (fun, but a bad instructor) and karaoke at Aqua Lounge (get there in time to get a round of the happy hour special, the screen is behind the stage so not ideal for karaoke but it's easy to get on the list). I did not do Filthy Friday, I ended up departing Bocas that day but I would have been on the fence about it anyway. I guess it's a "when in Bocas" thing, so I probably would have gone for it. I really wish I had spent another night in Bocas, I regretted not having another day out there as soon as I left. It turned out to be the best place on my trip to meet people, it's definitely a general party vibe, and actually the best place to get work done of the hostels I stayed at. I did dinner at Pier 19 which was pretty nice, if not a little expensive and probably not a good solo traveler vibe https://maps.app.goo.gl/6vJG1rdUPCqEf9W3A . I did brunch one day away from Bambuda at Casa Papaya, their typical Panamanian breakfast and it was a great deal/meal https://maps.app.goo.gl/9CPFCxu6woWwKuwM7 . I did hear from some people that the bird island was a fun tour, and worth the day/cost. I did some bonus late night, unofficial stuff like swimming after midnight at Selina and an impromptu midnight trip out to see the bioluminescence and the stars with a random lancha taxi from the Selina dock. Not sure how I'd direct someone to arrange that, but say yes if it's an option.
I took off from Bocas via shuttle for the Lost and Found Hostel on Friday around noon ($20) which I arranged at the main lancha dock. This shuttle did not include a boat all the way to Chiriqui Grande, it was the short boat with the long road segment. A few people did get car sick during the first leg of the trip, the road is in pretty rough shape so lots of speeding up, slowing down, and swerving potholes. Lost and Found really caught my eye because of how much I enjoyed Secret Garden Cotopaxi in Ecuador. In the end, it didn't live up to that lofty expectation and I should not have squeezed it in. The allure is that it's isolated in the jungle, you have to walk about 15 minutes up the trail from the road to reach the hostel property. There are several buildings, with one primary common area with a few tables and hammocks. A big downside is that everything is outdoors, under cover of roofs but open still, which wasn't ideal in the evening during the season I went where it rained in the afternoons. There is a community kitchen if you bring your own food along, or there is an option to get breakfast/lunch/dinner from the hostel. I had a few meals there: the smoothie bowl was good, the lentil curry was a little on the salty side. The hiking is pretty cool and I ended up going up over the mountain to the big tree, the lookout, and the river. I didn't bring water, but definitely should have brought a liter along. In the end, with only about half a dozen other people staying there and 2/3 of the staff being pretty insular and not really socializing with the guests, it just wasn't a great addition to my trip. It might be a better option for a group or during a different season, but it provided a logistical challenge to make my flight back from David to Panama City and it wasn't really worth the risk of making it work, so I hired a car ($30) to take me to David and just ate the price of my second night at Lost and Found. It was beautiful, but it just wasn't on the same level as Secret Garden Cotopaxi which inspired me to give this a shot. I think, all in, my stop at Lost and Found cost me about $76.
The combination of having scheduled a flight on election day (oops) and the lack of help from lost and found staff meant that my best bet was a night in David. I used Hilton points to book a night at the Hampton and had myself a recovery night. I got a hot and ready pizza from the Little Caesar's next door and two Sam Adam's Boston Lagers from the bar. Fantastic recovery night, vey nice Hampton, and a pretty nice little breakfast. It refreshed me at a point where I was not really enjoying the trip and pushed me to go for one more stop rather than laying low in Panama City.
After my flight back to Panama City, I took the metro all the way to the Avenida Terminal (less than $1 total, it is very easy to purchase a card and load it at the station) to grab the bus to Valle de Anton. It was fairly easy to find the window to buy the bus ticket ($4.25). It's important to buy for El Valle and not just Anton, a town which is not where you want to end up. There was a confusing bit of business related to a transit card (not the same transit card as the metro. I couldn't seem to find a machine to buy one from, and eventually the guy at the turnstile took pity and just used his own to let me in. I paid him back, but it was very confusing that you needed to buy the ticket then a card with which to pay an additional 10 cents to get to the bus at Gate 53. I can't really offer advice other than you should try to figure out how to get this card, or if you can just pay with a dime, right when you buy your ticket. I let the bus (not a very big bus, somewhere between a van and a bus) driver know where I was headed on the way and they dropped me right at Bohdi in Valle de Anton. The whole trip is about 3 hours, with lots of local stops the whole way. Bohdi was a pretty cool spot, with a great yoga space with a guided lesson on a TV every morning. It has a kitchen if you want to cook for yourself and free coffee plus breakfast every day from 7:30-10:00. Both breakfasts were pancakes, but it was free and they were pretty good. There are some cool lounge spots out back, a few cafe tables out front, and a loft space as well. It was a decent, but not perfect spot, to do work if that's what you're looking for. The dorm does have 3 levels of beds, and they aren't all that comfy, but I'd recommend Bohdi. The first night I was in town I went to the Golden Frog Inn on a recommendation and it turned out to be a great spot to watch the sunset and have some pretty good (although a small) vegetarian tacos https://maps.app.goo.gl/pzRuyYuwHZvMVnAo8 . One afternoon I chose to do the India Dormida hike, I left and walked all the way back to Bohdi, it was a few hours total. It's a quick climb up to the top and you can walk the whole ridge that forms the edge of the caldera. It was a beautiful view and you can really see the old crater rim formations from the top. It's clear up there, no trees and wide open, and the breeze was very refreshing. I ended up coming down about halfway across the ridge, starting from the north. I grabbed a vegetarian dinner at El Rincon Colombiano which I'd recommend https://maps.app.goo.gl/tRcAAnAm9fYni7Nv8 and some guacamole and a beer at La Ranita which was pretty good https://maps.app.goo.gl/BcdB8uCqaSRv1RyE8 . Overall, I really liked Valle de Anton and I'm happy I made it happen. It's a little drier and warmer than Boquete, with a lot less coffee influence, but I liked the vibe and wish I had done more hiking around the area.
For my last evening in Panama, I grabbed a room just to have a place to put bags and clean up before my flight at Hotel Caracas, a recommendation from someone I met in my first stop in Casco Viejo. I did not plan to work from here, nor did I spend a night, but for $35 it was a perfect spot to leave things as I went to knock out a few more items before my flight home. I popped into Tantalo for a quick bite to eat https://maps.app.goo.gl/9pA9Dmw8AE9doabT7 which I don't know if I'd recommend for food, but the view was good. I think I meant to go to CasaCasco, which was recommended for ceviche and sushi, but ended up in the wrong spot. I then went over to Element to get some cocktails https://maps.app.goo.gl/mwYt2D7X43ua4jGu6 . Element has an interesting vibe, kind of a steampunk theme to the décor. The two guys behind the bar, who I believe own it, were fantastic. They don't have a set menu but instead try to match a drink to what you're feeling at the time. I had a classic daquiri and an old fashioned, which both came with a little bit of a twist on the classic recipe. They also pulled down a few different spirits which we tasted together, overall I'd highly recommend a stop and it was especially fun as the only patron there. After two cocktails, I cleaned up and called an Uber and headed to the airport. Just a heads up, the Copa Club is pretty nice, has limited food, but tragically closes at 9 PM. I had a flight that left at nearly 11 PM, so this was a little disappointing.
Overall, I loved Panama. The people were friendly, even if the service in many places was pretty lackluster. It's more expensive than Colombia or Ecuador, but several people told me it's slightly cheaper than Costa Rica. It's a good stop if you're not sure about central or south America as it's extremely safe, if you use common sense, and it's not too hard to get around using shuttles/taxis/ubers if you don't want to brave public transit. It offers very good food options in Panama City, and it's easy to find a Hampton Inn/Hooters/McDonald's/Little Caesar's/Wendy's if you need a break from being adventurous. The Spanish isn't difficult, and most people speak at least some English. I would have dropped lost and found hostel from my itinerary if I planned it again, but did not regret any of the other stops. I do kind of wish I had focused on Bocas and Boquete, saving Valle de Anton and maybe San Blas together for a future trip, but I had already painted myself into a bit of a corner with my David-Panama flights by the time I realized this. I hope this helps someone as they plan their Panama trip, or helps them decide Panama is a worthwhile visit! Please do not make as many changes as I did, I absolutely did at least one to many stops and wish I had spent more time in Bocas and probably Valle de Anton. Anyway, feel free to ask questions in the comments and I'll try to address them as they come in!

2024.05.14 22:57 ThatBlackShoeGuy An inspiration of an inspiration of an Inspiration Balmoral Boot [Enzo Bonafè]

An inspiration of an inspiration of an Inspiration Balmoral Boot [Enzo Bonafè]
Images:
https://imgur.com/a/1e4FjIg
Background and history:

Enzo Bonafè traces its origins back to the quaint town of Bologna, Italy, where in 1963, Enzo Bonafè Senior founded the brand with a singular vision – to create footwear of unparalleled quality that marries traditional craftsmanship with contemporary elegance. From its humble beginnings as a small workshop in Bologna, the brand has flourished over the years, staying true to its founding principles while adapting to the ever-evolving landscape of fashion and design.
This specific boot was made in the inspiration of one of the many well renowned Parisian Dimitri Gomez’s bespoke boots. The original boots were made using very similar material and a very similar last. The original boot was made with black calf leather in the cap and vamp, while the facing and tongue is made chestnut brown calf, while the shaft is a piece of linen. There is broguing that was made on the cap and in between shaft and vamp.
While Dimitri Gomez did perfect this style of Balmoral boot, it had an even earlier iteration, and it was found across the English Channel in London.
The earliest boot that I can find was a John Lobb (of London)’s bespoke Balmoral boot that was made around the early 1900. It was made using black calf, cocoa brown calf for the facing, and egg white suede for the shaft. Not much is known about this boot due to its age. But I can 100% say it was the inspiration that Dimitri Gomez took for his bespoke craft.

My boot:
Building on the inspiration of Dimitri Gomez’s art work, this boot’s material is made from Horween black shell cordovan, Vitello Giamaica (Translates to Jamaican calf, which rich tan calf) and canvas. Shell cordovan is one of my favourite material for shoes due to it being simple to care for and always looks nice. The sole is a leather sole that Enzo Bonafè made using the hand-welted Goodyear method with a Cuban pitched heel. A brass toe plate was added to enhance the sole’s durability.
For comfort I found it very comfortable even with its single leather sole as the insoles of Enzo is sufficient even for a whole day of walking, the last that was made for this boot is the 74945 last. I would call it a round almond-toe last that is not too round or too chiselled. After a whole day of walking, the lasted shoe tree provides shaping to the shoe after it is worn the whole day.
I look forward to updating you all of this boot in the future when I have a chance to wear this eccentric footwear more this summer!

2024.05.14 22:55 Paywoah [PC] [2D] [1995-2000] A game where you control a spaceship with your cursor, trapping enemies inside an area you "draw"

The spaceship had a long "jet stream" that lingered for a while. You formed a circle around enemies by moving in a circular route and the circle would close and destroy the enemies caught inside of it. Top down view, simple graphics.

2024.05.14 22:54 No_Cow1060 I made a tool to replace vercel, heroku and other cloud hosting solutions.. And we just hit 10000$ MRR

A year ago, I was just another developer frustrated with the complexity and cost of existing cloud hosting solutions. That frustration turned into a project: Cloud-station.io/=ref?reddit , a tool designed from the ground up to make developers' lives easier.
It all started with a simple question: What if deploying applications could be as easy as a few clicks? With that idea, we built Cloud Station, aiming to create a more intuitive and affordable cloud hosting solution. Today, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve reached $10,000 MRR in revenue and have over 1,000 developers on our platform!!!!!
I believe in building tools that empower developers rather than restrict them. If you’ve been looking for a cloud solution that feels like it was made by a developer for developers, I’d love for you to check out Cloud Station and share your thoughts!
For those interested in a platform that truly understands and addresses developer needs, I invite you to try out
Entrepreneurship is a crazy game.. Really not for everyone, if you start, BURN EVERYTHING!!!

2024.05.14 22:54 Financial_Fault4250 What your favorite part about music in general?

I feel like this is a simple question to ask but a harder more complex one to answer. Everyone loves music for many different reasons and it really is all subjective. Perhaps that’s why some people find it so interesting. Me personally, I really love how you can connect with an artist that you may have never met or spoken to through a single guitar chord or a drum beat or one single lyric. Finding the meanings behind songs or even developing your own meaning to the song. Finding what the song means to you. I suppose the best part about interpreting music is that there is no wrong answer if you really think about it. It’s honestly kind of crazy and weird at the same time on how music brings so many people together. Everyone has different opinions on the same thing yet they form a community and bond over music.
Im interested to hear y’all’s answers to this question whether it’s deep and intricate or simple. I just think it’s really cool to see what other musicians think.

2024.05.14 22:54 h0ney6utter Background check

I’m currently trying to get set up to start dashing. I’ve been waiting a few days for my background check and while I am confident my driving record looks good, I do have a simple possession of marijuana on my report. It was from 15+ years ago in another city and everything with it has long been settled. Will this keep me from being able to dash?

2024.05.14 22:50 Sea-Tomorrow-9787 BV after pregnancy loss & methotrexate

Background on my pregnancy loss- A few days after a faint positive test, I started spotting which led to bleeding, cramping, and clotting. My HCG was still increasing some after all of that. I had 2 vaginal ultrasounds and never saw anything or a heartbeat. Nothing in my tubes either. It was concluded to be "pregnancy of unknown location". I was treated with methotrexate injection and so far, my HCG is dropping. (My levels were always low, never got over 100 so it was never a viable pregnancy)
3 days after the methotrexate injection I started to get a yeast infection. I treated it with 1 dose of diflucan. Now I have started having some burning when urinating and feeling the need to urinate often. I've never had a UTI before but that's what it sounded like to me. I went to the gynecologist to get checked out. My urine looked OK minus a little blood so they are sending it off for a culture. I asked if she could swab me to make sure the yeast infection was gone and she found out I have BV.
I feel extremely defeated. Has anyone had a situation similar to mine? The nurse said this has probably all been caused by the hormonal and PH imbalances from what I've went through this past month. My PH level was normal on the urine test though. She is treating me with a prescription gel.
