2024.05.14 22:44 Quick_Initiative_926 Schedule to count total available employees and # of employees in total available different areas based on list of trained areas

Creating a self scheduling sheet. That allows employees to enter work days. Then from the employee sheet the information is transferred to a main data Page showing a list of avaialble employees per day. This schedule works on a code key to That would create a total based on code key present on the daily flow sheet. Want to change the daily schedule table to a Working/Not working per day format. Then the totals table would count the employees working that day. The complicated part is that off the employees working that day, is there a way to create a function that would take the total employees working and divide that into cells below into facilities the scheduled employee is “onboarded” in, The hospital onboarded table would be below listing onboarded employees under each column of different facilities. In the future facilities are likely to be added or removed.

2024.05.14 22:25 Excellent_Shower_846 Sharing Obsidian Dataview CodeBlock for TTRPG Locations

Here is a bit of code I've been working today with DataviewJS.
Figured it could help some people get this done, I've been doing it using Copilot but since he isn't that smart it took many, many many iterations.
I am running a DND 5e Campaign in the Eberron Universe and this dataviewJS codeblock will parse all my notes in my "Campaign" folder in order to retrieve the notes that are tagged #POI (point of interest).
I have a hierarchy in my notes that goes from Settlement => Quarters => Wards => Districts => POIs. This is based on Sharn which is one of the biggest city I've had to document.
What this codeblock does is that it retrieves for a given Settlement (Current Note) all the quarters that link to it, then all the wards that link to the quarters that link to it, then all the districts that ... I think you understand the drill here.
It also takes into consideration the fact that a smaller settlement could be missing any of those levels in the hierarchy.
It then puts all the POIs in a table with: POI, Settlement, Quarter, Ward, District, POI Type (based on "poitype" frontmatter)
Hope this helps a few people get their notes in order :)

2024.05.14 22:23 Madzmoiselle HELP! I am too stupid and too antisocial to work because of drugs - what careers can I do ALONE or at home?

I’m a 28 year old dental receptionist. I graduated level 2 dental assisting in 2019 but only worked as an assistant for about a year and a half before switching to reception. I hated working chairside with the dentists because every dentist likes to do procedures a different way and they can be so nasty to work for, it was stressing me out and I wasn’t learning properly so I moved to reception so I could stay in the field and still get paid better than minimum wage.
IMPORTANT: I have struggled with drug addiction to diphenhydramine (Benadryl, sleeping pills etc) for about 7 years and it has really taken a toll on my brain - it has destroyed my memory and my ability to interact with others. I am so stupid and forgetful that I can barely function, and I am so awkward when interacting with coworkers. At every job they all end up hating me and talking horribly about me (sometimes right beside me and they don’t care that I can hear them talking about how stupid I am). I have been getting clean but the damage it has done will take years to correct, if I can at all. I do a great job at working if I am on my own (because I can be slower and check my work and follow info/rules/procedures/steps without coworkers watching me and judging me) but as a dental receptionist I don’t have that ability.
Dental reception has been breaking me down because it seems like I can never do anything right - I can’t schedule patients properly unless I have time to go over every single thing, I don’t know what treatment should go hand in hand with certain procedures when it comes to scheduling appointments, I don’t always understand dental insurance responses etc.
I am DESPERATE for a job that pays me a living wage (so $25+) like dental reception but allows me to either: go to a desk by myself and do tasks that don’t require much of other coworkers so I can be “alone” get my stuff done and go home, or work from home so I don’t have coworkers watching every single move I make or how-tos I have to read to do the job or how long something takes me so they can start telling me and everyone around me how stupid and remedial I am because I’m slow and don’t know anything
The thing is, I’m HORRIBLE at math (I can follow steps if they’re written down, but other than that I can’t so things like algebra or whatever, I can’t do on my own) and I feel like a math related job (accounting, book keeping etc) would be the only way to achieve the type of career life I’m looking for…so I feel lost
I don’t like marketing, call centre work, sales etc I want a monotonous job like entering information in a computer or something but I can’t find a job like that for $25… I don’t even know what to look for because “data entry” is so broad
Please help me….
I don’t mind going back to school but preferably something that’s only a year and could be done remotely or on weekends so I can still support myself in the meantime
God I just want to die I feel so hopeless

2024.05.14 22:15 Tofu_Bone How to write test for a Table function and Stored Procedure?

So I work for a company as a Junior Data Engineer (that's not my title, but I work with ETL tools, python and SQL so I guess close enough) and I write a lot of table function and stored procedure that's pure SQL.
We have a data warehouse (SAP HANA) that are loaded with dimension and fact table and I need to write long and complex table function (around 1000 rows) to join those table in the data warehouse for creating reports.
The company have a practice of writing test for these table function to check if the table function is getting valid and correct data. The test will run everyday to make sure they are correct.
However, the test are just another SQL script that try to query the data from the data warehouse differently, and compare them. Which turn them into the exact same code as the table function. It's very hard to get the same result but with different SQL query. As the testing code become almost identical to the table function, the test will always pass and we get a useless test.
So my question would be how do I write test that is meaningful? How would you design a automated test for a long and complex table function? How did your organization do it?

2024.05.14 22:01 sputzie88 Galaxy vs Pixel? Help!

I am in the US and in the market for a new phone, looking at getting maybe a Galaxy or PIxel. My last two phones were Moto Gs, and while I loved my first MG this last one has not held up well (hence the switch). Looking at the options, I am quite overwhelmed! I am not familiar with any of the various lines or what red flags I should steer clear of. Any suggestions on what may fit my needs (listed below) or warnings of what to stay away from, would be greatly appreciated!
I also was planning to purchase through my phone carrier (Mint) but if there are recommendations for deals elsewhere, I'm open to suggestions!

2024.05.14 21:52 mauztonelli how the f* can someone dedicate their life to only one thing?

I've been called talented, gifted and intelligent, but as of today, I'm just sick and tired, and I feel like the biggest idiot in the world. I need help and last week I started going to therapy because of this.
For context, I've taken many interests through my life:
I'm not an expert on any of those things, and I can't stop myself from bouncing from one to another, trying to find my "life purpose".
I tried starting 4 different businesses, from a pizza place to an online software engineering course, and of course none of those worked, I quit each and every one of them before even hitting the 6 month mark, and this shit is ruining my life.
I'm working a job as a developer, but each day I feel trapped and unsatisfied. Every day I see people selling food on the street, working as cashiers, working as executives solving daily company problems, and I envy them with all of my heart, how can they wake up every day doing the same thing and not feel like they're wasting their life away? how can they see the light at the end of the tunnel, feeling everything will be fine by just improving on what they're doing again and again?
I don't know if it's FOMO, i don't know if it's my 'ayurvedic' personality type. I just feel like I don't belong in this stupid fucking shit world.
I'm not good enough at any particular skill so that I could help anyone at any scale...
You can see my reddit profile where I'm playing the piano, that's about the level I'm at on most of the skills I've partaken in. Not 'bad', not good and nowhere close to remarkable.
I really don't mean to come across as arrogant, on the contrary, I feel like I'm unable to find my place on this world, I feel cursed by my inability to stick to something until I become more than decent at it, until I could actually be a professional, or maybe help other people. I don't know if I'm scared of never being able to monetize any of these skills on my own. I just run into the same problem almost every day, and of course I watch videos and distract myself in any way I can because I can't stand my life and uncertainty many times.
Have you ever had this problem? how did you get out of this?. I'm very open to suggestions.

2024.05.14 21:52 sillywillluu need help with scripts

So I have this script. It's located in game.StarterGui.Timer.TextLabel.Script
I want it to create a countdown timer that starts at a random number ranging from 5-20, but will stop (and the countdown TextLabel will change to "Timer.IsDestroyed" before disappearing) when a part is destroyed. If the player doesn't destroy the part before the countdown hits 0, then the countdown text changes to "HTTP ERROR 401" and the player gets kicked out. At the moment I don't think I'll need them again so I don't mind if the script calls for anything to be destroyed. I am VERY new to coding and have no experience I just use tutorials and combine certain pieces together to make this script below.
local time = math.random(5, 20)
local event = game.ReplicatedStorage.Kicker
local yeah = game.StarterGui.Timer.TextLabel
local timer = game.StarterGui.Timer
local part = game.Workspace.TimerStop
for i = 1, math.random(5, 20) do -- change 15 to any number (time)
wait(1)
time = time - 1
script.Parent.Text = tostring(time)
end
if event.IsDestroyed then
yeah.Text = "Timer.IsDestroyed"
yeah.Visible=false
else if time == 0 then
script.Parent.Text = "HTTP ERROR 401"
wait(2)
game.ReplicatedStorage.Kicker:FireClient()
end
end
where the script i pasted above is located
Then, I have another script in another location. Ignore all the unused variables I was messing with a bunch of stuff, but if you see that some can be used, let me know.
local part =script.Parent
local timerscript = game.StarterGui.Timer.TextLabel.Script
local kickscript = game.StarterGui.Timer.KickSc
local yeah = game.StarterGui.Timer.TextLabel
local event = game.ReplicatedStorage.Kicker
local timer = game.StarterGui.Timer
local timertext = timer.TextLabel
part.Touched:Connect(function()
wait(.5)
part.Glitch:Play()
part:Destroy()
wait(.5)
event:Destroy()
end)
located in game.Workspace.TimerStop
If anyone can give any help or tips, please let me know in DMs or in comments, it would be very much appreciated. :) I've been struggling with these scripts (specifically the first one) for the past 2 days.
EDIT: I completely forgot to include what was going wrong with the script. So with the scripts I have now, the timer goes down but stops at a random number like 5,3, or sometimes even a negative number. Also, it doesn't kick you out when the timer reaches 0, it just pauses at a random number. The sounds work, the timer going down (kinda) works, but it just freezes and won't kick you nor show the text I want it to say if you destroy the part needed to stop the timer. If you have any questions let me know!

2024.05.14 21:36 ediblehunt Mum is considering equity release, is there a better option?

My mum is 58 y/o and owes approx. 35k left on a property worth ~£300k. Her income is limited to her private pension annuity which pays out ~£650/mo. Currently she is unable to work due to disability and is working on applying for PIP. In the meantime, her mortgage is ~£450/mo which is unaffordable. Therefore she has been temporarily paying on an interest-only basis. She has 7-10k in high interest debt that needs to be paid, most of which is credit card debt. Downsizing is currently out of the question due to many personal life factors. It's something on the horizon in the next 5 years but cannot happen immediately.
Because of this, she has been considering equity release. I only know the napkin maths but it's along the lines of taking 50-60k up front on an interest rate of circa 7-8%. The mortgage gets paid off, she gets 25k or so in her pocket but then the equity release debt will gradually climb. I understand this to be an unattractive option as far as being efficient with your money goes, but I am struggling to know what to advise instead. Re-mortgaging to release equity is not an option due to her current lack of income - even her existing mortgage provider will not offer anything except interest only.
I understand the core of the problem is that her income is not high enough to support the house she lives in. Unfortunately, she is pretty firm about not down-sizing "yet". With the equity release option on the table, I'm afraid she's just going to go ahead and do it - as she did with beginning to draw down her private pension a couple of years ago.
I'd like to help out if there is a workable way of doing it. The thing is I am closing in on having a deposit ready to buy for the first time myself. Therefore giving a lump sum of money would sting me a lot. I can, however, afford to give her ~£500/month going forwards. I pitched the idea of paying the ~£450/mo mortgage for her, and taking some equity in the house myself, but this does not solve the issue of the short-term high interest debt.
Apologies for the info dump but I am out of my depth here.

2024.05.14 21:25 Business-Refuse-775 questions on creating a library in FASM

Hello everyone,
Today I decided to dive into the world of programming in FASM assembly language. I want to start by creating a simple math library focused on basic functions and operations such as addition and subtraction, and I aim to make it compatible with Windows systems and possibly Linux.
Since I'm just starting out, I want to learn how to optimize performance and support both 32-bit and 64-bit formats. But before I dive too deep, I could really use some advice on the best approach to building this library. Specifically, I'm interested in what is the best library format to choose. I know that in Windows there are static and dynamic libraries, with dynamic libraries being able to be used in multiple programs, and static libraries being limited to a single program at compile time.
If anyone has experience with assembly language programming, I would greatly appreciate any insights, advice, or suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 21:18 steini1904 Looking for decent, but primarily fast accumulators for hashing (And how to evaluate them?)

Hi there,
I hope this is not off topic, since I don't intent to declare the hasher anything to cryptographically secure, but:
I'm playing around with very simple hashing algorithms, trying to make one as performant as possible, given unknown input data, even on simple hardware.
For that I want to accumulate the input data as fast as possible, but without a potential attacker being able to easily create collisions (without knowing an initialization / secret value).
The fastest I've gotten is (pseudo-code, all operations modular over integer-width):
acc += cleardat + secret;
Which gave me sometimes bad distributions before mixing it, so I changed it to:
tmp = secret + cleardat; acc = acc.rotate_left(5); acc += tmp;
Which still gives me sub-ns timings on my about 2GHz CPU and a decent distribution. The problem is that I'm basically Gravity Fall's boyband trying to drink from a glass of water. I assumed that the first tiny snippet would be basically as good as an one-time-pad (and giving me a decent distribution), since the attacker never gets to see the "ciphertext" / accumulator, but noticed that I just don't have any idea on how to even start analyzing it. I don't mean to brag, but I can do the math behind this advanced problem up to 10 (am not a wood worker), but what then? So I wondered:
  1. are there any well established, fast accumulator functions?
  2. How do I analyze even but such a simple problem?
  3. Are there any beginner friendly resources to learn such skills from? I found plenty that goes way over my head and plenty that starts and ends with the Ceasar cipher, but little in between.

There needs to be plenty to keep players entertained, there need to be provably fair games, and sports betting is an added bonus. Here's what Heybets has to offer:
Slot Games
With traditional online casinos, slot games are the staple of what's on offer. These are the most popular casino games out there, and so you'd expect the best bitcoin casino sites to perform well here. The good news is that Heybets certainly delivers here. There are classic slots, jackpot slots, and those with stunning bonus rounds. Just a few of the titles include:
While the number of slots matters, for a site to be the best bitcoin casino, the quality matters too. Fortunately, the games here only come from the best providers, such as:
This just goes to show that you can rely on online crypto casinos if you're one of the many slot fans out there.
Table and Card Games

Banking and Crypto Transactions
As with all gambling websites, the payment methods on offer are important when it comes to choosing an online casino to play at. The top bitcoin casino sites allow players to use a range of cryptocurrencies, as well as supporting other methods that you'd find at fiat casinos. Ay Heybets, you can use the following to fund your account and play casino games:
While there's plenty of choice here, what would make this stronger would be the inclusion of the likes of Dogecoin and Tether.
When considering more traditional methods of depositing and withdrawing, Heybets also allows you to use bank wire. There are no fees when using this option for fiat currencies, but users of crypto will need to be aware of the relevant GAS fees.
Heybets and Bonuses and promotions
As you'd expect from a site that could well be considered the best bitcoin casino, there are a host of bonuses and promotions here. Let's get the bad news out of the way with first: this crypto casino does not offer a welcome bonus. With that out of the way, let's take a look at the bonuses and promotions on offer for existing players. While these change on a regular basis, these are the ones that are a constant:
Raise Your Arm Zeus
This bonus comes into play when you're playing the online slot, Gates of Olympus. You'll activate the bonus at this bitcoin casino if you manage to win 20x - 100x from the free spins feature. If you're in luck, this leads to this crypto casino boosting your winnings by 100%.
Extra Juice
The lack of a welcome bonus doesn't seem to sting quite so much when you look at the likes of Extra Juice. This bonus kicks in on a selection of new casino games. It can lead to winnings being boosted by 7%.
Sports Betting
While our focus is on online casinos, it's worth noting that Heybets also offers a range of ongoing bonuses and promotions for customers of its sportsbook.
Loyalty Program
If you're looking for the bitcoin casino with the best loyalty rewards then Heybets is it. The VIP program here has 5 tiers, and each comes with its own rewards. To enter at the bronze level, you need to have wagered at least $2,500. With this, you can enjoy 5% cashback on all bets. Reach diamond and you'll benefit from 10% cashback as well as exclusive bonuses and rewards. This certainly makes this site stand out from other bitcoin casinos.

Just like all relatively new bitcoin casino sites, there's a need for Heybets to go above and beyond to inspire confidence. It certainly does that with almost instant responses on its live chat which is staffed by knowledgable and polite agents. The only downside is that this isn't available 24/7.
Mobile Experience

The Metaspins Bitcoin Casino

When looking at the best bitcoin casinos, Metaspins is another online gambling site that can't be ignored. If you're the kind of player seeking an attractive deposit bonus, then you'll be more than happy with what's on offer here. As we get into the detail, you'll soon see why Metaspins deserves a place on our list of the best bitcoin casinos.
Metaspins and Bitcoin Games
Something that is clear when looking at the best BTC casinos is that there is no shortage when it comes to the range of games that there are to choose from. What puts Metaspins in the running for the best bitcoin casino site is the fact that there are more than 2,500 games to explore. Given that this site was only launched in 2022, it can still be considered to be one of the new bitcoin casino sites, so there's a good chance that the range of games will only grow. Let's take a closer look at what's on offer now:
Slot Games
What makes Metaspins one of the best crypto casinos is the range of slots that can be played. These are provably fair games, and they come from some of the best providers in the business. In fact, what makes the range of slots so exciting here is the sheer number of providers that Metaspins works with. There are more than 30 of these, including the likes of:
You can expect to come across some of the most popular slot titles, such as Gonzo'a Quest, Starburst, and Dark King: Forbidden Riches. For fans of jackpot slots, there's a great range of these too, including Jackpot Quest and Rainbow Jackpots Power Lines.
Table and Card Games
As you'd expect from a site in the ranks of the best bitcoin casino, there's more to this BTC casino than slots. As bitcoin online casinos go, this is an impressive showing and will be a major draw for new players.
Metaspins Bonuses and Promotions
A major part of online casinos is the welcome bonus money that's up for grabs. Alongside this, players also like to see reload bonuses, cashback, free spins and even no deposit bonuses (although these are a little on the rare side). With that in mind, let's take a look at what this bitcoin casino has to offer:
Metaspins Welcome Bonus
The welcome bonus offered here is certainly attractive, and is bound to catch the eye of many players. As one of the best bitcoin casino sites, Metaspins offers a 100% match bonus up to a maximum of 1 btc. That means that if you were to deposit 0.5 btc, you'd then be rewarded with another 0.5, meaning that you had 1 btc to play with. The only watch out here is the wagering requirements. They come in at 40x, and they need to be met within 7 days. This could prove a little tricky if you were to take advantage of the maximum bonus money offered.
Deposit and Get
As deposit bonuses go, this one we think is extremely impressive. It really is as simple as it sounds: you continue to make deposits, and you can be certain that you'll get rewards. You just need to keep an eye on your rewards panel. When you see a notification, give it a click and see what you've been given. Some of the rewards on offer are:
These ongoing rewards mean that there are plenty of reasons for players to stay loyal to, what we believe, is one of the best bitcoin casinos.
Sports Betting
Just like many of the other best bitcoin casinos, Metaspins also has an impressive sports betting section. There are separate bonuses to be enjoyed here.
Metaspins Customer Service
To be seen as one of the best crypto casino sites, there's a need for online gambling platforms to offer outstanding customer service. Bitcoin casinos are still relatively new, and knowing that the company is there when you need it matters even more than it does at traditional sites. Metaspins delivers here, with 24/7 live chat, as well as a detailed FAQ section. The fact that customer support is always there means that this truly is one of the top bitcoin casinos.
Mobile Experience
This btc casino doesn't have a dedicated app as yet, but that doesn't mean the games can't be enjoyed on the go. Simply by using your mobile browser, you can access Metaspins from any mobile device and enjoy the full crypto casino experience, no matter where you are.

BC Game also has live dealer games like the other btc casinos that we've looked at so far. These come from the best in the business, namely Evolution Gaming and Pragmatic Play. In truth, the selection here isn't as wide as it is at other crypto casinos, but there is still plenty to keep you entertained.
Banking Options at BC Game
Just like other crypto casinos that make our list of the best, BC Game has plenty of options to choose from. While there are no alternatives away from crypto, the number of these that you can play and withdraw your winnings with is impressive. Some of those that you can use include:
BC Game Bonuses
This bitcoin casino also comes with some attractive bonuses and promotions that are sure to appeal to players everywhere. Here's a look at what's up for grabs
Welcome Bonus
The welcome bonus here is a little different compared to that at other crypto casinos. That's because it's spread over your first 4 deposits. Here's how it's broken down:
The wagering requirements are 40x. While this may be common it does make it a little difficult to take full advantage of what's offered.
No Deposit Bonuses
Right now, BC Game is also offering a no deposit bonus for new players who sign up. Simply by joining, you can claim $5 worth of free spins that can be used on the Lucky Wheel. Prizes can be up to $500 or come in a variety of cryptocurrencies.

If your casino experience is based on video poker, you may need to play elsewhere.
Live Casino Games
You're sure to be impressed with what's on offer in terms of live dealer games. The lobby is bursting with titles coming from Evolution and Pragmatic Play. There are also titles from Bombay Live Games. This means that Stake has everything covered, and offers a live experience that's second to none.
Banking Options
As you'd expect from an operator that makes our list of the best bitcoin casinos, there are plenty of payment options to choose from. While this is a 100% crypto site, the good news is that you're not just limited to one or two of these. Just some of the ones you can use include:
In total, Stake accepts 20 cryptocurrencies, so there's sure to be one that you're comfortable using.

With that out of the way, let's take a look at what you can take advantage of:

Wild.io Customer Service
Like the other bitcoin casinos that we've looked at, the customer service on offer at Wild.io is impressive. With a live chat function that is available 24/7, you can reach out whenever you need any assistance. When we gave this a try, we had an almost instant response meaning that our query was resolved quickly. There is also a chatbot to help with queries.

2024.05.14 21:05 BrohirrimRider The Problem with Early Game Green Ramp and How I Would Solve it

I wanted to get some thoughts and feedback on something a few friends and I have been discussing recently: the problem with green based land ramp in commander, and how we have been considering addressing it in our playgroup.
The Problem: Land-searching ramp ≤ 3 offers green decks too much consistency and safety compared to options available to non-green decks The Solution: Removing all land-searching ramp ≤ 3 mana ([[Nature's Lore]], [[Farseek]], [[Sakura Tribe Elder]], [[Cultivate]] etc.) from the format
I'd also like to preface this by saying that I acknowledge that this could be a bad/dumb take, and that it is not a definitive way to solve a highly diverse and complicated format; it's just an idea we've been tossing around that we might try to implement into our own playgroup, and I wanted to get some outside opinions. I also acknowledge that this sort of "fix" will almost certainly never see the light of day on any sort of grand scale, as I imagine most commander players would not like to see a mass banning/format warp to solve a problem that you could argue doesn't even exist. I'd also like to say that this is all in regards to non-cEDH gameplay/playgroups, as I feel that cEDH is its own format and this discussion doesn't really apply to cEDH gameplay. All that being said, here are my thoughts:
In the current era of EDH gameplay it's pretty much been established that turns one through three are the setup turns where you deploy your ramp and mana fixing so that you can cast your proper board impacting beaters, card advantage engines, interaction, etc., on turns four and beyond. For decks not in green this typically involves playing mana rocks such as [[Arcane Signet]], talismans, signets, and maybe a [[Sol Ring]] if you're lucky. For green based decks, this usually means playing cards like [[Nature's Lore]], [[Farseek]], [[Rampant Growth]], etc., which are predominantly viewed as the inherently correct choices to run over the aforementioned mana rocks played by the non-green decks. These are often viewed as the preferred sources of ramp for green decks because they offer your deck more mana consistency (often able to ramp out shock lands and triomes in multi-colored decks) with greater safety and reliability.
Now why is this a problem for the format? I feel like the innate reliability and safety of land-searching ramp puts green decks at a significant advantage over other decks in both the early game as well as the late game. In the early game these ramp spells offer mana fixing, flexibility, and consistency at a much better level than most early game mana rocks available in non-green decks. For example, a Temur deck can easily keep a hand with two Forests and one of their ramp spells, such as Farseek or Cultivate, since they can search out a [[Ketria Triome]] or their two other basic lands they need and immediately have access to all three of their colors. If an Esper deck, on the other hand, has an opening hand with two Plains and one of their ramp spells, such as a [[Talisman of Hierarchy]] or [[Azorius Signet]] , they might be forced to mulligan since they don't know when they'll get access to their third color. In essence, green decks are able to keep greedier hands with greater consistency due to the mana fixing that their land-searching ramp spells often provide them.
The other problem with land-searching ramp spells is the "safety" they provide. The benefit of running land-searching ramp spells is that lands often remain safe from interaction from the rest of the table. When the board starts to fill up with too many troublesome creatures and other nonland permanents, some sort of wrath is almost always inevitable. Nowadays these wraths often include spells like [[Farewell]], [[Cyclonic Rift]], [[Austere Command]], [[Ondu Inversion]], etc., usually leaving the board empty, all mana rocks gone. This often gives the green decks a considerable advantage over the non-green decks, as they are often left with their ramp intact and are able to redeploy and build up a new board state quicker and more reliably than the rest of the table. Often times the solution to this particular problem is to run some sort of land destruction to counteract this, with [[Ruination]] being mentioned more as of late. Land destruction in EDH is a touchy subject; some people think it should be utilized more often, some people think it shouldn't be allowed at all. Personally, I don't think that destroying lands should be the solution. The problem is that single-target land destruction is inefficient, making it a poor solution to land ramp, and mass land destruction often goes against the "Spirit of Commander" because it often leads to prolonged games and a "feels bad" state of play. This is why I believe that the best way to "solve" the green based land-searching ramp problem is to cut it off at the source: removing land-searching ramp ≤ 3 mana from the format.
I am not advocating from the removal of green ramp, or even land ramp as a whole. I believe that ramp is a core part of the green color identity, and I believe that green should be able to ramp better and more efficiently than the other colors. I just believe that there should be a sort of check and cost to green ramp that can potentially be punished, rather than land-searching early spells that are almost always strictly better than what the rest of the color pie can play. If green decks want to ramp hard in the early game, I am all for them playing creatures like [[Delighted Halfling]] or [[Birds of Paradise]], or enchantments like [[Wild Growth]] or [[Utopia Sprawl]] - ramp that can be punished with a wrath or with interaction like everything else. And I am all for big land-searching ramp spells like Explosive Vegetation or Hour of Promise, where you actually have to sacrifice a turn and potentially leave yourself exposed, rather than taking advantage of the first three turns of the game when everyone is trying to setup for their future games. I don't think that removing land-searching ramp spells ≤ 3 mana would remove the viability of any decks and leave them unable to function; I just think it would lower the consistency and advantages that I feel green decks, particularly 3+ colored green decks, are currently taking advantage of in the format.
Anyways, that went on way longer than I'd anticipated. I'm just curious what the communities thoughts are. Is this just a god-awful take, or do you agree with me to some extent or another? Is there even a problem to address? Hell if I know, I'm just rambling based off of the experiences I've had with my playgroup at my LGS.
TLDR; I believe that land-searching ramp spells ≤ 3 mana give green decks a greater advantage in your average EDH games, and that removing them from the format would help balance the format.

2024.05.14 20:50 The-Indigo I need pepective on what to do. Third Discipline Switch and another degree?

So, I want to get into a computer engineering program for a second master's or PhD. First, let me give you an academic rundown.
I have a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. My focus was Pre-Animal Health, focusing on form, function, and Physiology. My minor was mostly Organic and Biochemistry in course loads. I just finished an M.A. in Media Studies (I know). Here is where I gained my programming skills somewhat (I started before this program during the lockdown). I study Computational Media, Generative AI, and other forms of generative media. It was fun and cool, but it was not as challenging, and I miss the rigor of the STEM field. Also, a lot of the focus in programming in my program was Frontend, UI/UX, Game development, and other mixed bags of technologies and software.
By last fall, I noticed that while I enjoy creating and making things on a computer, I wanted my work to be more tangible, physical, and at a higher level/lower level. I don't see myself in web development or software, to be honest. I want to get into robotics and hardware, but I don't know if I should pursue another master's (I don't know how I am going to fund that) or a PhD. I am worried to apply anyway because I might look like an idiot who is confused about what he wants, and also how schools might look at my application as a whole.
I need to start learning hardware now, which I am in the process of doing and even got into a bridge program to up my CS skills and knowledge.
Also, things to note: I did pretty bad in physics (d and c), but my math (statistics and calculus 1) grades are much better so are my Bio and chem. I can do math, but physics with word problems, with formulas are just not it...
I dont have anyone I know in this feild and much what I find online doesn't tell me much. Help please!

2024.05.14 20:40 Sparky01101001 D326 Advanced Data Management: Passed in 2 days/first submission

DAY 1 Major Mistake:
I have to start off by saying it took 2 days because the end of day 1 the timer restarted! This resulted in all my code being wiped clean from the pgAdmin database(even saving it on pgadmin didn't keep me from losing the code). So please keep an eye on that timer! Be sure to save your code inside pgadmin and a copy outside of it. I believe you can keep requesting 30 more minutes at a time, when your run out of the 8 hours.
DAY 2:
Without going into to detail with each required step, I will give a general outline of how i attacked this class.
  1. Business Problem:
    1. Pick something really simple that will require the use of at least two tables. Such as payments/ Store. This is probably the hardest part of the entire thing.
  2. FAQ/Common Mistakes Document:
    1. This document was essential to a first round pass! I happened to come across it before submitting my PA and it saved my butt. I would have had some major corrections. So make sure to go through each common mistake for your entire PA.
  3. Pre-Study:
    1. To be transparent, I did finish the other two data courses before doing this one. I also practiced with DATACAMP and did the intro to SQL course. It helped me get through this one with very little struggle. Not much of a learning curve from SQL to postgre.
  4. Video:
    1. The PA requirements are pretty vague. Thus, the need for the common mistake doc/FA question. Also, there is a video, that will walk you through the PA requirements. It's an hour long but very much worth watching**\*
  5. Code:
    1. Getting the trigger to fire correctly was a big challenge for me until I found this video:
      1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3rgdShkkfE
    2. Transformation:
      1. This was very easy, I chose to transform the cost per rental into an average (it helped with my proposed business problem). Don't overthink this one too. You can easily just concat strings. But make sure it's "useful" in some way.
    3. Creating the tables (detailed, summary) was another super easy section to complete.
    4. Checking Code:
      1. For the code I made sure to "--Check detailed table for xyz--" to make sure in the video recording I was actually showing that the code was putting/removing/or refreshing the tables, and so on. So after, lets say, the "create table summary" after I put all my fields in then under the code I put comment --Confirm Summary Table-- The code: SELECT * FROM summary; to show it was actually created.
  6. Word Document:
    1. I did this last (aside from writing the summary and business problem).
    2. It was easier to do it AFTER all my code was done, so I can just fill in the word doc with exactly what was in my code. I'm glad I did this because I made changes throughout the code that would have forced me to change details on the word doc.
    3. Common mistakes doc is the key for this requirement and ensuring a first round pass. I put all the required details exactly like what I had in my code.
    4. Code: I typed out my code at the end of the word doc as if I copy and pasted it from the pgadmin. Even my comments. Made sure there were no mistakes in my typed code.
    5. MAKE sure to include the automated/scheduler tool of your choosing! I did this under a comment in my code and in the word doc. I just explained tool I chose, what it did, and why I chose it.
    6. SOURCES*** I put down no sources used. Just be sure to put something. If sources were used then be sure to put that and cite them correctly.
  7. Video Recording:
    1. Not much to say here. I watched the given video on that is given through the link to the site at the end of the assignment requirements page. Then just went through my code and explained/verified everything functioned correctly.
    2. My video was 5 mins total.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

2024.05.14 20:26 tempmailgenerator Automating Email Operations in Excel with VBA

Unlocking Email Automation in Excel VBA

Excel's versatility extends beyond data analysis and reporting, delving into the realm of automation that simplifies tedious tasks, such as email communications directly from your worksheets. The integration of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) within Excel allows users to create custom functions, enabling the automation of creating and sending emails without leaving the comfort of their spreadsheet environment. This capability is particularly beneficial for professionals who rely on timely communication and data distribution, ensuring that reports, notifications, and updates are dispatched directly from their workbooks with minimal manual intervention.
However, navigating the VBA landscape to automate email operations can present challenges, particularly in ensuring the new mail item is prominently displayed in front of the worksheet and is sent after the contact is selected. Addressing this issue not only enhances the user experience by making email management more efficient within Excel but also leverages the full potential of Excel's automation capabilities. By streamlining these processes, users can focus more on their core tasks, knowing that their communication needs are handled efficiently and effectively.

Expanding Email Automation with Excel VBA

Delving deeper into the integration of Excel VBA for email automation unveils a powerful toolset at the disposal of users aiming to streamline their communication workflows directly from their spreadsheets. This capability is not just about sending basic emails; it's about creating a highly personalized and dynamic communication channel. Through VBA, Excel can interact with Outlook to manipulate various aspects of email creation, from adding attachments to customizing the email body with data directly sourced from the spreadsheet. This level of automation can significantly enhance productivity, especially for those dealing with customer inquiries, periodic reports, or regular updates that require personalization based on spreadsheet data.
Moreover, the automation process extends to handling responses. By automating email operations, users can set up rules within Outlook to sort incoming emails based on specific criteria, such as sender, subject, or keywords. This can be particularly useful for managing feedback or responses to the emails sent through Excel VBA. Such automation ensures that the workflow is not just one-way but creates a loop of communication that is both efficient and manageable. Implementing these advanced features requires a good understanding of both Excel VBA and Outlook's capabilities, highlighting the importance of integrating these powerful tools to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in professional communication.

Automating Outlook Emails from Excel VBA

VBA in Excel
Dim outlookApp As Object Dim mailItem As Object Set outlookApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") Set mailItem = outlookApp.CreateItem(0) With mailItem .Display .To = "recipient@example.com" .CC = "ccrecipient@example.com" .BCC = "bccrecipient@example.com" .Subject = "Subject of the Email" .Body = "Body of the email" ' Add attachments and other email item properties here End With End Sub

Enhancing Communication through Excel VBA

Integrating email automation within Excel using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) significantly boosts the efficiency of communication processes, particularly in professional settings where time is of the essence. This integration allows for seamless creation, customization, and sending of emails directly from Excel, leveraging data within spreadsheets to personalize messages. The automation goes beyond mere convenience, enabling users to send bulk emails tailored to each recipient, schedule emails for future delivery, and even trigger emails based on specific events or conditions met within the spreadsheet. Such capabilities are invaluable for marketing campaigns, customer service follow-ups, and internal communication within organizations, ensuring that the right messages reach the right people at the right time.
Furthermore, Excel VBA's email automation can be enhanced with advanced features such as dynamic attachment inclusion, where files relevant to the spreadsheet's data or analysis are automatically attached to the outgoing emails. Users can also implement error handling to manage issues that may arise during the email sending process, such as invalid email addresses or network problems, ensuring that all communications are delivered successfully. With these advanced functionalities, Excel VBA becomes not just a tool for data management but a comprehensive solution for managing professional communications, reducing manual effort, and increasing the reliability and effectiveness of email interactions.

2024.05.14 19:59 acsqdotme 22m - seeking cool + clever friends

Hi all
I'm a 22m united statesian math student from the midwest. At some point, I realized that math is actually (secretly) a humanity, so my closest friends have been less engineer types and more artists, historians, college philosophers, and people with a lot of empathy.
Normally, I can just hang out with my film roommates or weird people at the library, but I've got flipped seasonal depression where the loneliest time for me is summer, so this is my annual post looking for online friends to chat with.
I'm looking for people that are cool (REQUIRED), academic (ish), and more than anything curious in seeing just how far their passions go. There's way more meaning in being brave with what you do than in being smart.

Some passions of mine:

math - I'm finally doing the trifecta of undergrad classes my old math-ish degree deprived me of: real analysis, number theory, and topology. Most of my thinking energy the past year has been applied to recursive functions, data structures, and border math/cs topics I'm so sick of at this point. I can't wait to be writing proof by contradictions again for homework. My favorite "sup" is definitely the great supremum.
reading - my summer list: Stella Maris (the McCarthy epic), Permanent Record (Snowden book), Wolf Hall (tudor-core), and Traitor to His Class (bio on the coolest Roosevelt). I mostly read classic literature and history + mythology books. I'm gifting Kafka on the Shore by Murakami to my English teacher friend as it left a real mark on me when I read it last year. Also with everything going on in Palestine and the nearby protests, Chomsky and Orwell essays are so clarifying.
linux/code - I know I dissed it above, but there's definitely a before/after FOSS in my life where you discover just how composable everything is with pipes and streams. I run unix with vim, emacs, dmenu and all the rest. I like programming in golang and lisp and wanna learn haskell. LaTeX equations are also very beautiful.
history - I visited Vienna a few weeks back and saw a cool Marshal Joseph Radetzky statue. It was interesting putting myself in the mind of those 1848 Viennese students and their revolution crushed by the state power of an eighty-year-old catholic Joe... Anyway, reading about the imperial krauts is neat. Knowing about the past makes travel, talking to geriatrics, and old coins way more fun, so I've always appreciated political, cultural, and religious history.

Littler things I like:

  • Rock N Roll (simon and garfunkel, fleet foxes, björk, radiohead, elliott smith, brian eno)
  • Singing beatles karaoke at open mics
  • Emailing random authors at 2 a.m.
  • Photography
  • Talking to goofy kids, old people with endangered idioms, foreigners in their own language, anyone not cowed into being boring
That's enough color about me. I wanna hear about you now!
My ideal penpal is someone that cares very deeply about ideas as well as people. If you wanna leave me swooning, send a bandcamp if you're a rockstar or a git repo if you're a hacker or anything cool you wanna show off in your domain.
Life can be a real swirl for me, but for the first time I'm starting to feel dizzy. Little chats and side-tangents of friendships are not what I need now. Please only message if there was something that really stuck with you.
If my hopes of finding inspiration and kindness from the world resonate with you, send me a PM.
cool bye now B-)
