I’m Onsie Onsfjord or Fjord feel free to call me whichever is not mind to me.
I’m a 26-year-old English Norwegian who’s mainly lived his whole life in the United Kingdom and graduated from university with a degree in Computer Networks and is now working as a DIE for the NHS (Digital Infrastructure Engineer).
Caught you off guard with that job title acronym huh? Yeah, trust me when I first started it had me in fits of laughter, but you get used to it after a while.
So a bit about me;

• I’m an introvert and tend to avoid public crowds, events and such and just try to vibe with friends on a nice game of anything (which you’ll see below)
• I’m an avid IT nerd and will most likely remain this way for my whole career as IT is my education and career at this point
• On top of IT you guessed it I’m also a very big avid “gamer” I mainly play PC and PS5 games with my current interests being in Helldivers 2, Star Wars: The Fallen Order, and Jedi: Survivor amongst a few other things like WoW, CoD, SWTOR and so on.
• I love learning, whether it be history, game lore, languages, cultures, etc. You name it, and I’ll probably be interested in it (Trust me, you give me a flag of any country, and I’ll be able to tell you the country’s name and political structure.
• I’m also an avid book reader and you’ll most likely see my shelf full of different manga from all types of genres, I don’t particularly watch anime, I mainly read instead because I find it more “interesting” for better or not. (Not that I'm opposed to watching it) - I’m trying to learn to cook myself but not very good at it as my most recent attempt I ended up giving myself food poisoning so it’s sufficient to say you will have a big gamble if you’d like me to cook ha-ha.
• I do watch football from time to time and do support a few clubs from around the world (mainly northern Europe, the UK, and the US) feel free to guess if you’d like!
• I’m currently on a VLCD and have lost about 2 stone within 1 month which I’m super super happy about.

In terms of looks and such I’m what an average 26-year-old would look like who is 6’1/6’2 with a picture on request.
Please don’t judge too much as I’m still working on improving myself.
What am I about? I’ve always made it a goal to help, care for, and support those close to me, whether it be friends, old friends, or the equivalent of my family. They’ve been there for me, and I’ll go hell and back for them as they’ve stood by me through thick and thin, even through the loss of other close friends; they’ve picked me up and brushed me down and set me straight to which I will always forever be in their debt and have helped them being.
Whilst I’ve been shot and backstabbed by many of those who I thought were close to me I just try and see the positive and avoid the unnecessary drama and arguments as life is just way too generally short for that kind of stuff and we should all get along with each other in my mind.
What am I looking for? I apologize if this comes off as really picky

• Someone who has an interest in IT, manga, gaming, and such (It’s easier to talk to people with the same interest I’ve found though you don’t need to work in IT at all)

I'm looking for a desktop since I assume that's the cheaper option over a laptop and I will just be using it in my office. I have no experience building PCs, but could probably figure simple things out if needed. Please help me with where to look for something that meets all these requirements at the lowest price point. It's only going to be running that one program. Additionally, something I could upgrade with more RAM at some point in the future would be a plus.

Like with every new creative technology, we are seeing push-back from people both in and outside of creative communities. Cameras were "going to destroy painting"- synthesizers were "going to destroy music"- drum machines and sampled records "invalidated hip hop in 'the arts'"- Autotune "diminishes the value of proficient vocalists"... etc. etc. etc. But eventually, we always come around.
The AI debate has been much more public and much more heated- with many claiming it will be "the end of all human creative pursuits" or saying "we do not want AI to make images, video, or music at all"
The messaging of the people who make these AI tools are partially to blame for this discourse: their promotion/advertisement **is often positioning these as "tools that handle the entire creative process"

Google actually talked to artists, and showed people how they can use these generations as an addition to their existing tool belt and creative process.

Wyclef talked about how producers have used/modified samples from other works in the past, digging through records to find that perfect sound to add to the sound they've created in the studio manually. He explained that he now has a source of infinite, specified samples and sounds that he can add to the guitars, drums, etc. that he's already recording by hand

Marc is known for live looping and layering of sounds that he's recorded, sampled, or created on the fly. He explained how he can now quickly produce exactly the sound he's looking for to layer into what he's already creating

With film-making and video production, they brought in Donald Glover (Childish Gambino)

His takeaway quote was: "That's whats cool about it, you can make a mistake faster... at least in art, that's what you want: to make mistakes fast" which is something that, at least in my own artistic endeavors, deeply resonates. Curation and refinement- making mistakes and getting closer to the actual intent, is one of the most important parts of creating great art. Knowing what should be kept and what should be left out- taste, and the process of bringing to life that which you imagine accurately. Ben Franklin said it quite succinctly- "The eye [imagination/vision] of a master will do more work than both his hands"

The point being that quickly moving through ideas frees up an artists time for further exploration and refinement- which in turn opens up the creative process to people who might not have pursued it otherwise.
Gambino's second takeaway quote emphasizes this specifically:

"Everybody's gonna become a director, and everybody should be a director- because at the heart of all this is just storytelling. The closer we are to being able to tell each other our stories... the more we'll understand each other"

This is, in my mind, the part of Google I/O where they really knocked it out of the park.

This perspective is how people will come to view generative AI as a way of enhancing creation and self-expression, rather than destroying it. Creative communities will increasingly embrace it, bringing us more, and better art- and perhaps art that wouldn't have ever existed from people with ideas and stories that they never would have told otherwise.

I really strongly believe that this is the lens through which all creative generative AI should be viewed, shared, and promoted. This is the rhetoric and the perspective that creative people need to hear, emboldening and empowering them, rather than making them fearful of being replaced.
I don't often give Google many props... but they really figured this out and nailed the messaging today.
This perspective has the power to shift the conversation and steer creative pursuits in a more positive and capable direction... and potentially to awaken artistry in people who wouldn't have otherwise pursued it- increasing our collective ability to express ourselves and understand one another.

PC Optimum points give the illusion of a being a reward, but they are not free. Loblaws pays for those rewards by raising the prices of their products.
Non-loyal shoppers are forced to subsidize benefits for loyal shoppers. Meanwhile, loyal customers are incentivized to stay loyal the points they accumulate, creating a financial barrier to switching to competitors.
This shifts the competitive focus in the marketplace from what it should be - quality and price - to customer acquisition and retention via financial leverage.
To make matters worse, Loblaws tracks our purchasing patterns via the app, increasing the effectiveness of their marketing at the expense of our privacy.
Unfortunately, none of this is at all uncommon as a business practice. Our Competition Bureau has decided that loyalty points programs do not meet the threshold of anti-competitive behaviour.... But that’s not to say our position on this as a society can’t change.
Customers should not be coerced into participating in a program, by penalizing infrequent shoppers. This discourages consumers from shopping around, which is the entire premise of a free market.
We can't stop Loblaws from buying up the supply chain, and all the other things they do to avoid competing fairly. But we CAN cancel our PC Optimum memberships, and never reactivate them again, even if the boycott ends. The fewer people participate in the program, the less Loblaws needs to raise prices to cover the cost of the program. We should do the same with all loyalty points programs at all companies - they're all bullshit.

I accidentally bought 2 8GB ddr3 stick because i needed more ram to play rust. i already had 2 8gb ddr4 sticks and i had heard something about primary slots and secondary as i want to make sure my pc focuses my Ddr4 and uses the ddr3 as back up

(Not me) There was this pc collecting dust in my parents room so I decided to open is up. Someone messed around with it they literally 1.5 terabytes worth of sata hdds and 4 sticks of ram when the original processor that came with the machine can only support 2. Like it’s literally an i7 from 2009 💀.

Bought Key 01 and Box 01, I avoided checking this subreddit before I received mines and was kind of disappointed, however what made me more disappointed was just now finding out there's 5 boxes ???
Anyways, for those who don't have the box its pretty much made of some sort of aluminum and could probably be easily destroyed with only a few hammer swings. The key slot feels rather loose and honestly could be picked pretty easily or even other methods could defeat the lock. I'm gonna assume they ordered a ton of regular lockboxes (each would manufacture for like 2-5$) wholesale from some kind of manufacture (china), gave them all the red coat and decals. The decals however do feel well printed onto the box, so for utility usage this could definitely store any other smaller MSCHF items lying around with the key inserted (You can easily pull out and place back the foam) , however I wouldn't lock anything valuable in it as it seems to be defeated pretty easily especially if you just strike the lock part in with a screwdriver, and it sticks out in any room.
Will I buy any more Boxes? really depends on if theres any hint about the endgoal since this could very easily just be boxes and nothing more, which 1 is cool but why would anyone need 5 of them.
TL;DR: Box looks cool on a shelf but functionally shouldn't lock anything in it.

So I've googled and I've chatgpd for multiple afternoons now and cannot get tensor flow to recognize my 306012gb. A engineer friend of mine also tried but the error we are dealing with is pretty open ended and the guides we do find are outdated or install other apps like conda.

Does anyone have a tried and true guide to installing on ubuntu 22? I really don't want to do a fresh install of my host as I would have to move files around etc. While I would love to just say fck it and use docker we are doing some testing of a new app and docker would make it a pain during dev.
Rough outline of steps taken:
Im on python 3.10 and cuda 12.4

1. Nvidia-smi works
2. cuda
3. cuda toolkit
4. cudnn.

Also is there a typo in this command (from tensorflow site). Copy and paste or typing manually fails. I have tensorflow without cuda installed.

I'm at a loss here and the more I try the more I fear that Im making a mess of the host and going in circles. My only theory is I'm missing a path in ./zshrc but I thought I took care of that this morning.
If anyone could please send me a guide thats up to date and working you would be a lifesaver. I've now tried on 2 ubuntu machines (one being wsl2) and followed tutorials/guides that appear to be up to date for both.
