Eurocopter Tooling

2024.05.14 15:48 Dakin3342 Eurocopter Tooling

Got a new gig working on EC130/135/145 and Bell 407’s, coming from Cessna GA aircraft. I’m building up my metric tools (the normal wrenches, sockets, etc.) to match my standard sets.
What tools have you found to be absolutely necessary/helpful that I could be overlooking?

2024.05.13 22:57 Southside_john Old craftsman made in USA hype

What’s the deal with prices on these things on eBay and stuff? I have 2 full sets of metric combination wrenches from the early 2000’s “va series” that are stamped made in USA and these things sell for like $70-90 on eBay.
Now I’m just a casual user and have decided after all these years to get a set of tekton combination wrenches because I was never a fan of these craftsman wrenches. IMO they’re too short and I like the smooth finish of other styles better.
My point is, do people actually think these are really nice wrenches or are they just looking st them through rose colored glasses? I bought them back in the day because they were cheap and I was a broke teenager. Even though they are made in the USA I don’t think I would ever drop that much money on these wrenches if I saw them on the shelf.

To bore or not to bore?
Are these crude harbor freight instruments enough to qualify if I need a bore or not?
According to these, it looks like I need a bore but I kinda wanna just send it.

2024.05.13 10:52 SnooSongs8782 Tread links - anyone know them all?

Does anyone know all the Tread tools? I found one post that listed all the links and which model they came in (apparently 20 all up) but they didn't have the tools.
Here is my findings so far:
Link Models 1st Side 2nd Side Centre
Clasp, non-adjustable % Tread, Metric Bottle opener Robertson #2 1/4 Socket drive
Clasp, adjustable Tempo
1 % Tread, Metric, Tempo 3/32 Flat 1/8 Flat * 1/2 width link
2 Tread #1/#2 Philips 3/16 Flat 1/4 Box
3
4 % Tread, Metric Pin Cutter Scribe
5
6 % Tread, Tempo 5/16 Flat 1/4 Flat 3/8 Box
7 % Tread 3/32 Allen 1/8 Allen 3/16 Box
8 Tread 1/4 Allen 3/16 Allen Oxygen wrench
9 % Tread, Metric, Tempo 5mm Allen 6mm Allen 10mm Box
10 % Tread, Metric, Tempo 3mm Allen 4mm Allen 8mm Box
11
12 % Tread #1 Philips #2 Philips 6mm Box
13
14
15 Metric, Tempo #2 Philips 3/16 Allen 7mm Box
16 Metric Robertson 1 Robertson 2 8mm Box?
17 Metric, Tempo Pozi#1 Pozi#2 11mm Box
18 Metric, Tempo T20 T25 13mm Box?
19 Metric, Tempo T30 T27 6mm Box
20 Tempo Scribe Cutter Bottle opener?
Can anyone fill or confirm more? This table is based on Leatherman tread links : , my own example (%) and pictures googled. I have seen pictures of two with the Pin and Cutter separated, but I don't know where they would fit here. According to the model list this accounts for nine links on each. I don't have or know any for the LT, I expect they are all different to this set and not interchangeable.
Messing with my old Tread I noticed it is missing two links, 2 & 8 it seems. No surprise, I picked it up at a pawnshop, and many people report taking two links out to fit. I would like 1/2 link more, it is difficult to get over my hand and quite snug on my wrist. I think Link18 would be great, I would gladly swap out the half-width Link1 with flat blades in return for T20 & T25 (and a T15 please. Why they included bigger Torx and missed T15 I can't understand. I doubt I would have enough leverage for most T30 bolts, while T15 is much more common in electronics and let's face it, who but IT geeks would actually wear a Tread?).

Some stuff is nuts like the metric 12 piece set of x frame combo wrenches was most $400?that’s not happenin for a set of Chinese made wrenches. But it seems there are a lot of middle of the isle priced items. The ratchets look solid for $90 for the full set of 160 position ratchets but I’m most excited about the 10” smooth jaw pliers wrench for $25 or $20 if you buy the 5 piece set for $100.

NTD Pretty good for free dollars
I was helping my In-laws set up for a garage sale last weekend. My FIL was about to toss out a tub of random stuff that I decided to poke through before it all went out in the garbage. I managed to pull out a full set of Craftsman SAE ignition wrenches, a mostly complete set of SAE ratcheting wrenches, several mostly complete sets of SAE sockets in 1/4”, 3/8”, & 1/2” drive both in 6pt and 12pt drive. Ironically, the only metric tool I found was a 10mm.

2024.05.12 01:23 BreeStephany Basic Switchgear / Meterpack Install Tool "Kit" Recommendations

I have been doing a LOT of the installs of main switchgear, large meterpack sets and such for my company, but we've slowly been getting more of the apprentices involved in the process to give them adequate hands on experience while also reducing our time that it takes to make them up.
A lot of our guys are lacking basic tools when it comes to building meterpacks, landing feeders, etc., so I am slowly trying to encourage my company to invest in building a "kit" or two to bring to these installs so that these guys can have the correct tooling necessary to do the job correctly, while also giving them an idea of what they will need for tools by the time they get their licenses.
The kit I came up with consists of a 3/8" drive 24" long extension to assist with horizontal buss torquing in large main disconnects, a 3/8" drive SAE long hex bit set, a 3/8" drive SAE short hex bit set, a drive adapter set (1/2" to 3/8" drive, 3/8" to 1/2" drive, etc.), a universal joint adapter set, a Milwaukee 3/8" drive SAE packout socket set, a 3/8" 144 tooth ratchet for working in TIGHT quarters, a 20-100ft/lb 3/8" drive click-type torque wrench, a 40-200 in/lbs 3/8" drive click-type torque wrench and a 2/0 - 250mcm "clover" / 4-way cable stripper. I suggested purchasing a 3 drawer Milwaukee packout and a sheet of Kaizen foam for each kit so that every tool has its place to ensure that all the tools are accounted for at the end of the day / end of work, that nothing is left in the gear and that all the tools make it back to the shop at the end of the work, as the "kits" would cost roughly $790 each (likely less with discounts we get through suppliers)
I have a lot of these tools, along with much more, but I wanted to get people's opinions of what else these kits could use.
I suggested adding a ratcheting set of cable cutters, but I know that will probably get cut from the suggestions as they company does have several 'well-used' M12 cable cutters already, so they would likely see this as an unnecessary addition.
What is everyone's thoughts?

2024.05.10 23:11 Cheezslap Dimensions of the Quinn 66-piece case?

I'm thinking of getting this for my son as his truck toolkit (first car) and would like to incorporate space for it within a custom center console in his awesome but fabulously shitty Tacoma.

2024.05.10 13:43 Buickbeater07 127k miles 2007 Buick lacrosse, just changed oil and filter now oil with wrench dash light pops up.

Decided to change my oil in my 3.8 buick due to the service being way overdue and I had a break from school.
After easily removing the plug draining the oil and screwing the plug back in, I moved to the filter. Had a much harder time accomplishing this, had to remove the tire and ended up just piercing the filter with a screwdriver to gain leverage and turn it. After I replaced the filter, I applied some old oil to the top of filter and installed it.
Filled my car with the recommended sae 5w-30, little less than 4.5 quarts. and drove it.
Drove fine around the block. After I drove it to my girlfriends house around 15 mins away. Drove great.
As I was driving back to my house, noticed the light and immediately pulled over, checked my oil and it seemed a little low (quite hard to gauge because brand new oil) added more. Checked the screw again made sure I tightened the guy and checked the filter aswell. All seemed well.
The issue comes in when I start my car, it always pops up with the oil light and a wrench next to it. Unsure how to remove it or fix it. Is it just telling me now is the time to change my oil and I should reset the light, so it doesn’t pop up? Just worried, and wondering if I did anything wrong.
Another note is later that night I drove it for a good 2 hours to travel back to where I attended school. Didn’t hear any odd noises and it drove wonderful.

2024.05.09 21:34 Traditional_Neat_387 Legal question about employment

Legal question about employment
(Not naming any party’s, all names are substitutes) I am hired through a sub contractor let’s call “Hiring” working for a different company im gonna call “worksite” (ie I dont don’t work FOR them I work WITH them) even though I’m eligible for hire with them after 6 months. My supervisor from “work site” keeps trying to tell me I have to buy a list of tools from personal pay as per THERE company, yet I don’t get paid by “worksite” nor receive any benefits from that party. I’m not a guarantee hire for “worksite” either and receive about 10$ a hour less from “hiring” than “worksite”. My question is can I tell “worksite” to screw off because I’m not under them or should I cave and buy the list (list is included)
P.S. in tight finances rn and although I have most of the list I keep getting hounded about it (also as stated before make 10$ less than the actual employees)

2024.05.09 19:15 Sensitive_Injury_666 Most versatile icon socket, and combo wrench sets?

Simple home DIYer(assembly, appliance repair, minimal woodwork), maybe occasional mechanic needs. Looking to take advantage of the sale tomorrow and upgrade my old Pittsburgh socket set, as well don’t have any metric wrenches really, just random sae. What would be a good versatile set for each? Able to hit two stores need be.
Also are icon needle nose going to perform any better than old randoms?
