I was on the MSC 2024 world cruise and it was terrible. A huge rip off! I seriously regret my decision, but i wàs seduced by the great itinerary. Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia at the one end and Greenland at the other end. None of which happened! Now i understand the war in the middle east impacted our travel plans but MSC said we would replace with Rhodes, Malta and Cyprus. Ok, well now that didn't happen. We had 6 stops in Spain, each the same as the one before. Then Port Verde which is a dump. We then raced down to the other side of Africa with 1 stop for gas in Namibia. Raced again to Durban. In 21days we spent 18 at sea. Disgraceful. People paid a lot for this cruise and got very little in return. Some of the “out of the way stops” were dumps where we were told not to wear jewelry, watch out for our phones, don't go anywhere alone.
The food was atrocious. I am diabetic and had to fight for 3 weeks before I could get sugar free Ice cream. The food in the buffet was the same day after day. The salad bar was not appetizing, with bland vegetables. Dishes supposed to be hot were cold, and vise versa. After Africa the ship ran out of certain foods. They watered down the yogurt. MSC was contacted by a number of upset people but they refused to do anything. The passengers of all nationalities got together and 900 + people signed a petition which was sent to MSC offices in numerous countries. PEOPLE wanted compensation for the atrocious 1st leg of the trip. They ignored us until after other cruise lines stepped up. MSC gave 500 euros for each adult and 10% on a future cruise if taken in the next 2 years. Disgraceful. 500 euros is less than 5% of what we paid, and I will never take an MSC cruise again. I don't care how much the offer me. It doesn't end here. We went to canada in april. The shopkeepers told us that a cruise ship never comes before may. Then we were to go through Belleisle straight and on to greenland. The captain canceled our trip to greenland. He tried to imply it was the ice and winds. What he didn't say was that NO CRUISE SHIPS GO TO GREENLAND BEFORE JULY. They have to wait for the icebergs to melt. THE BELLE ISLE STRAIGHT IS NEVER OPEN BEFORE JUNE. It is my belief that they never intended to go to Greenland as i don't believe a company as big as MSC didn't do the research. We also found out that the ship we were on, the Poesia, was not equipped with the lights and other equipment necessary to go through the iArtic at that time of the year. They never intended to go. One huge rip off. The word fraud comes to mind. The French passengers got together on the ship and submitted another petition on the Greenland situation. They gave us 300 euro and announced that they would give 50% off for a cruise to Greenland this summer or next. I will say again, i will never take an MSC cruise again. Entertainment was blah and if you didn't want dance lessons, bridge or exercise routine, there was nothing for you to do. One of excursion members blatantly lied to my face. Now the lower staff members, housekeeping, waiters, dining room staff were just awesome, the middle to upper management felt they were better than the passengers. People who were handicapped were treated so badly and for a number of the earlier stops, had to stay on board as it was too much trouble to facilitate them getting off the ship. One lady I know sat and waited on a bench in the heat for almost 4 hours waiting for a wheelchair to help her back on the ship. One of the passengers went and got a wheelchair himself to help her. I COULD GO ON BUT YOU GET THE POINT.

Taken a lot for me to really process this...
I know some of you can relate, if not all of you to some extent...
My situation growing up, there was me, worked hard, studied hard and got good grades, went to college, got my 4 year degree.
I did everything my parents asked of me for their admiration, their love, it was all transactional.
As I got older, it turned more into being punished for the tiniest things, praised, then torn down again, it was an every other day occurrence.
It made me feel inadequate, made me try harder, made me live in fear for what would happen next.
It made me a recluse when I was home or finding any excuse to leave the house to be with friends that genuinely loved me and wanted me there for my company, conversation and companionship, then come home when I knew my parents would be asleep.
It just made me hypervigilant, constant fight or flight, always waiting for the shoe to drop.
For the most part, everything was great until I got married. Once the attention and energy went into my spouse and not them, they became angry, resentful, bitter. Your happiness when it doesn't come from them, destroys them to their core. Parents threatened to not attend, when they weren't paying for the wedding. It was during covid, very limited on who could go, yet they tried to control that.
I went into business with my father many years ago. Promises of it being mine one day when it all started, to leaving after promise after promise broken, working FOR someone and not for myself. I'm in the financial industry, and I decided that leaving after consistently being taken advantage, gaslit, verbally abused and micromanaged, not to mention from other employees, as an independent contractor. He painted me as a problem and projected himself onto me. He fought so hard to make me an extension of himself, yet when I tried to be my own person and do things my way, that infuriated him even more as it was working. I was moving forward, advancing, being successful. I was aggressively taken down a notch. Having my income slashed to 10% of what it was and being told that "it was good for me".
I yelled so loud in anger, as we all know it was reactive... you're reacting to the abuse you've taken. Putting up a boundary or concern and having it rejected, ignored.
I have a wife, child, mortgage, bills. I didn't find any bit of it amusing, and it was labeled as "performance related" when I hit 80% of my goals, 95% client retention, and new assets brought into the firm, yet 60% of my work was taken as "cost of doing business".
I was tired of being told what to do, brought up violations of labor laws, didn't stop them from pushing so I left. I was offered 40k less than what I made the previous year and would have the same duties, and lose all my equity, so I left, took my clients with me.
I have a wife, a beautiful daughter, and I broke free. Sure, I'm living paycheck to paycheck, fighting like hell to keep a roof over my head, but I would rather be free from manipulation, panic attacks, stress, a slave forever with no benefit at the end, no taking over, no incentive, nothing. Just disenfranchised, destroyed, and recovering.
Sorry for the trauma dump, but, I had to get that off my chest.

TL;DR: The unfun anti-primary balancing is meant to have the same effect as Hunters and Smokers in Left 4 Dead, i.e. to forcefully encourage teamwork and punish loner playstyles.
I'd like to preface this by saying I don't condone this method in the slightest, especially since this game is supposed to be playable solo as well as with a 4-player squad.
Now, in games like Left 4 Dead and its derivatives, the main thing stopping you from going it alone are special "disabler" enemies capable of immobilizing you in a single strike. If you're alone, you're as good as dead, but if you have teammates nearby, they can free you with ease.
Helldivers 2 doesn't have that, but I'd argue most of the enemy designs are built around that same principle of punishing players who go it alone. Many enemies have heavily armored fronts and weak spots in the rear, encouraging a two-man approach: one gets the thing's attention, and the other circles around behind to shoot it in the ass. If you're on your own, however, circling around to hit that weak point is next to impossible once other enemies are in the mix.
With the bots, this is somewhat exacerbated with "death hose" enemies like the Heavy and Rocket Devastators, as just being in their line of sight (and therefore in their barrage of projectiles) makes it much harder to shoot back. You're supposed to hunker down while your friend flanks them.
With the bugs, this is complemented by hit & run enemies like Hunters and Stalkers, who charge at you and either slow you down or ragdoll you across the map. There isn't much you can do to defend against them because you're not supposed to be able to defend yourself, you're supposed to have a squadmate on hand to provide covering fire.
Similarly, the reason many armor-piercing primaries get nerfed is because you aren't supposed to be able to fight armored enemies on your own. You're supposed to rely on your support weapon, your stratagems, or a teammate's help. If you're on your own and your stratagems are all on cooldown, then you've done something wrong and deserve the ass-whooping that's coming.
Most of the support weapons seem intentionally designed with weaknesses as well for this same reason. The Stalwart is great at mowing down hordes, but it'll bounce off anything with armor. The Recoilless Rifle is powerful enough to punch through armor, but it requires either a teammate dedicated to team reloads or a lengthy period of vulnerability. In the developer's eye, you should be bringing a diverse collection of support weapons that cover each other's weaknesses. If you're on your own, you've obviously done something wrong and don't deserve to win.
All this wouldn't be an issue if Helldivers 2 was a hardcore team-based tactical shooter, but it's not, or at least the community doesn't think it should be. Since the game often assigns you to a group of randos, most people expect that synergy isn't too big a deal, and they're understandably miffed when no one packed a counter to Heavy Devastators. Since the game gives you the option of working alone, most people expect to be able to play alone, and they are understandably miffed when they wind up in a failure spiral that's the developer's punishment for not playing as a squad.

I started on semaglutide in October of 2023 at my all time high weight of almost 170 lbs at 5’3. I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life, and in recent years decided to just eat what I felt like and not obsess over food. I was gaining around 5 lbs a year, but felt decent in my skin. Once my annual labs came back with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, I decided I needed to get to a healthy BMI for health reasons.
I steadily but slowly lost over 30 pounds and just went off semaglutide last month. The biggest difference has been the food noise. The months on semaglutide were more freeing than I even realized. Not thinking about my next meal constantly freed up my mind to focus on so many other things. Now food is all I can think about. Before semaglutide, I could have ice cream, chips, and soda in the house (mostly for kid sleepovers, I’m not big on just keeping junk food around) and didn’t feel the urge to partake, and if I did feel the urge, I would indulge. Now I can’t stop pounding goldfish like they’re water.
It may be that while taking semaglutide, food was so unappealing, so now that it tastes good, I’m going overboard enjoying it. 4 pounds have crept back on in the last month, and I’m scared it’ll continue. Easy to say… just eat less! But I’m insatiable. I wake up starving and am hungry all day. I’m now debating going back on it, and in my mind was thinking - get the foods you love before your doc appointment this week because you won’t enjoy them again for a while. Since this mindset shift, from restricting to indulging, now I’m less obsessed. Which is telling me that it’s 90% mental. When I try to restrict, my brain fights me and obsesses over the restricted thing. When I accept that it’s not restricted and that I can free range on whatever I want, I lose interest. I realized I’ve always been this way… case in point - leading up to my wedding and trying to ensure I didn’t gain any weight so I could fit into my snug dress, I found myself at every burger drive thru on the way to dress fittings. On autopilot, knowing I’d pay for it but not able to stop the wheel from turning my car into the Shake Shack drive thru.
Has anyone else had this experience? What did you do and what helped? Thinking about finding a therapist that specializes in this. The 4 pounds don’t bother me much, as long as it stays at just 4, it’s more the constant distraction that feels intolerable.

Background
The Dunmer population of Windhelm is composed primarily of refugees (or born of refugees) who escaped Vvardenfel’s disastrous living conditions after the eruption of the Red Mountain in 4E 5, known as the Red Year. The migration of most of these refugees likely took place in the years following the disaster. In the roughly 200 years since, they’ve built a sizable community within Windhelm’s ghetto, formerly known as the Snow Quarter. The squalor they live in during the present time (4E 201) is indicative of their long struggle to integrate with the Nord majority. Now, why has there been such a struggle?
According to a variety of non-Dunmer NPC dialogue, the common sentiment is that the Dunmer keep to themselves, they do not try to integrate, they do not work hard, and they do not get involved with the war effort. The in-game book Scourge of the Gray Quarter by Frilgeth Horse-Breaker makes many complaints on the Dunmer’s existence in Windhelm, reiterating such sentiments and claiming they do not contribute to the city. This is also indicative of the Windhelm Nord’s refusal to acknowledge the roots of Dunmer issues. The old jarls of Windhelm may have accepted the refugees, but the Nord citizens have clearly endeavored to keep them at an arm’s length, leading to the segregation of the Windhelm Dunmer we see today.
The “Good Ones” and the Model Minority
Many might look upon Beylyn Hlaalu as proof that any Dunmer can work their way out of poverty. He is the only Dunmer land owner in Windhelm, a proud man who credits his success to his hard work and resents the poorer Dunmer for complaining. But what many fail to consider is that he is a descendent of House Hlaalu, a former Great House of Morrowind. Although House Hlaalu at this point has lost all major political power, they’re still a family of considerable wealth and influence in Raven Rock, albeit under a fake name. I find it rather likely then, in a culture who so values clanship, that Beylyn Hlaalu has had monetary support from his wealthy relatives in order to at the very least kickstart his farm. And although there are no explicit pieces of lore that support this, one must wonder if it is truly coincidence that the shining example of Dunmer success is one born from a not too distantly historically powerful family.
The successes of the Altmer residents in Windhelm are also cited as proof of Dunmer failings. They are Nurelion, Niranye, Ulundil, and his wife Arivanya. Niranye is presumably the newest Altmer migrant to the city, saying she's only just arrived from the Summerset Isles. She is the only one of the Altmer to make references to mistreatment by Nords, claiming that it was difficult at first but she'd eventually proved her usefulness. Clearly she has been able to integrate with Nord society, and once again it is credited as her own hard work. But is that completely true? There are three factors for her ease of integration that are being ignored here: Unlike the Dunmer, the Altmer arrived as business minded merchants and not as refugees, There were already well established and respected Altmer living in the city prior to her arrival, and her business is unfairly propped up by her dealings with crime guilds. Her business directly competes with that of Ravyn Sadri, a Dunmer general goods merchant. By acquiring her goods through her criminal connections and selling at absurdly low prices, she is able to quite easily undercut Ravyn’s business, who operates honestly.
Referencing Scourge of the Gray Quarter again, the writing finishes by claiming that Windhelm Argonians should be the model for Dunmer behavior and acceptance. This is the proposed model for acceptance? Exploitation, racial hierarchy, and wage slavery? Who reads Scourge of the Gray Quarter, looks at the Argonians, and genuinely thinks they’ve successfully integrated?
When holding these so-called examples of Dunmer failures to light, it’s clear to see that they hold little water. Many claim that it is their duty as residents of Windhelm, that they owe a debt to the city for taking them in as refugees 200 years ago. But I ask you this, why should they fight on behalf of a system that harms them? It should first be said that the Stormcloak Rebellion’s primary function is to release Skyrim from the rule of the Empire, so that Skyrim’s people may solely be governed by those who live in Skyrim (Ignoring for a moment that Ulfric’s rebellion was set in motion by the Thalmor to weaken the Empire, according to the Thalmor Dossier). An admirable sentiment, but it has manifested itself as highly xenophobic and oftentimes hostile (most commonly verbally) to those who are not Nords. In the case of the Windhelm Dunmer, it has led to the local Nords being more distrustful than ever before. More dialogue from Brunwulf indicates the escalation of racial tension in the city is primarily the result of Ulfric’s “Skyrim for the Nords” rhetoric. This paired with Ulfric’s complete apathy towards the issues faced by non-Nords in his hold communicates a hatred towards them and systematically harms them.
Many players are under the impression that the Dunmer received free housing and live tax free due to what is written in the Decree of Monument."untithed to any thane or hold, and self-governed, with free worship, with no compensation to Skyrim or the Empire”. I’d argue the text is referring to taxes rather than housing, and no other in-game source makes reference to the housing situation either. But does that mean it is true that the Dunmer don’t pay taxes? One of the outcomes of Revyn Sadri’s quest results in him having to pay “increased taxes” to the city of Windhelm, implying that yes, the Dunmer are currently paying taxes. I do not think it is likely that only Revyn or only some Dunmer are paying taxes. It can be fairly assumed then that at some point between 4E 20 (when the monument was placed) and the present time of 4E 201, the Dunmer were made to pay taxes like any other citizen. As for housing, I find it unlikely the Dunmer received the Gray Quarter for free. As stated earlier, it was likely a slum to begin with, meaning it would’ve been considerably cheap to move in. Perhaps offered to them at a reduced price. It is important to note that the Dunmer being refugees at the beginning does not automatically mean they were penniless upon arrival, likely poor, but it would be unrealistic to assume all of them had nothing at all. Realizing now that the Dunmer of Windhelm are tax paying citizens who are continually ignored and othered by their ruler, it surely must be understandable then why they would refuse to fight on behalf of a system that at this point only takes from them. They owe the Nordic administration no loyalty
Conclusion
With a ruling majority that will more often than not shun, insult, or exploit them, It is no wonder then how the Dunmer of Windhelm as a whole have not been able to integrate, that they “keep to themselves”, that they “don’t contribute to the city”. For how can one integrate with those who refuse to ever fully accept them? If you wonder why they do not leave, with what funds could they start anew? If you wonder why they dont help the Nords in their war, why would they fight for a cause that harms them? The system is as the system does, and that system is racism.

It was only recently that I got more interested in actually talking to NPCs, learning more about the game world, not just in it for the cool fights and jiggle physics mods (tho i do love em). Earned my gold die today. I wanted to share a few things I wish I and everyone understood going into honor mode. After these common misconceptions I’ll go over a few general tips that you probably already know, but they bear repeating.
Most guides and videos for “Best Characters for Honor Mode” are wrong. They focus on complete builds for characters level 8+, in Act Three. This is the opposite of what is necessary and fun. Act One is the most difficult. That’s where the game will squeeze you the hardest, and you’re most likely to die. The first four levels are where you may need to min-max and select characters based on their relative power. If you want my advice, here are a few classes and the level where they start to shine.
Level 2: Light Cleric, with bless
Level 3: Rogue Assassin, surprising enemies with bow
Level 4: Barbarian Berserker, with tavern brawler and throwing weapons
That said, feel free to ignore those suggestions. What’s the worst that can happen? Die in Act One? Not much time invested and plenty of excitement in trying again.
The second biggest misconception is that you need to do certain things in honor mode, play certain classes, or make “safe” decisions. The truth is, if you do your utmost to make the game as easy as possible, it’ll be boring, even on honor mode. After you reach level five, your party will get much stronger. You won’t need to pick the sweatiest classes. I thought you did, but the rest of my game turned into a cakewalk. You should focus on playing the classes you enjoy, rather than those you feel are the most potent.
Instead of looking for ways to make honor mode easier, search out paths to make it more entertaining. You shouldn’t be doing anything as far as role play that feels gross. If you don’t want to make Momma K sad, don’t side with Gortash. If you love Gale too much to blow him up, fight the final battle instead. That’s what I decided to do in the eleventh hour, and it made for a much more memorable story. Just prepare to fight the big brain and enjoy the challenge. To reiterate, don’t feel pressured into any path or strategy you don’t enjoy. I didn’t pickpocket gold. I didn’t use barrelmancy. And I stopped using throwing weapons because I find them too finicky.
Some people make honor mode more exciting by limiting their long rests per act. Another idea is only letting wizards use spell scrolls, or no crafted potions, etc. Definitely play with the origin characters you enjoy. Do only those quests in Act Three that feel fun and necessary. Some will go poorly. For instance, I killed Minsc. Even with sublethal enabled, either my crit ended him or the thunder damage from Punch-Drunk Bastard. Jaheira left. Boo cried, but all good stories have tragedy.
Honor mode reduces the temptation of save scumming and injects more chaos into your narrative. Two other exciting aspects are the more challenging boss fights and some more balanced abilities. Lean into the fun. With all that in mind, here are a few general tips for honor mode.
1. Stick to well-traveled paths. Don’t test the unknown. This game likes to surprise you, trick you, and kill you. If you aren’t sure what’s coming, if you try a different dialog choice than one that worked for you in a prior playthrough, you may well die. If you like to live dangerously, break a leg. As long as you understand the risk.
Personally, I regret fighting the Mystic Carrion for the first time, on honor mode. He didn’t have any loot I wanted, and since I didn’t know what to expect, the battle felt brutal. That’s the only time any of my characters died in Act Three. (Outside of camp anyway.)

Instead of looking for ways to make honor mode easier, search out paths to make it more entertaining. You shouldn’t be doing anything as far as role play that feels gross. If you don’t want to make Momma K sad, don’t side with Gortash. If you love Gale too much to blow him up, fight the final battle instead. That’s what I decided to do in the eleventh hour, and it made for a much more memorable story. Just prepare to fight the big brain and enjoy the challenge. To reiterate, don’t feel pressured into any path or strategy you don’t enjoy. I didn’t pickpocket gold. I didn’t use barrelmancy. And I stopped using throwing weapons because I find them too finicky.
Some people make honor mode more exciting by limiting their long rests per act. Another idea is only letting wizards use spell scrolls, or no crafted potions, etc. Definitely play with the origin characters you enjoy. Do only those quests in Act Three that feel fun and necessary. Some will go poorly. For instance, I killed Minsc. Even with sublethal enabled, either my crit ended him or the thunder damage from Punch-Drunk Bastard. Jaheira left. Boo cried, but all good stories have tragedy.
Honor mode reduces the temptation of save scumming and injects more chaos into your narrative. Two other exciting aspects are the more challenging boss fights and some more balanced abilities. Lean into the fun. With all that in mind, here are a few general tips for honor mode.
1. Stick to well-traveled paths. Don’t test the unknown. This game likes to surprise you, trick you, and kill you. If you aren’t sure what’s coming, if you try a different dialog choice than one that worked for you in a prior playthrough, you may well die. If you like to live dangerously, break a leg. As long as you understand the risk.
Personally, I regret fighting the Mystic Carrion for the first time, on honor mode. He didn’t have any loot I wanted, and since I didn’t know what to expect, the battle felt brutal. That’s the only time any of my characters died in Act Three. (Outside of camp anyway.)
- Play a main character with high charisma. Remember, you can respec any origin character into a charismatic class. If you don’t do this, it will be a different and more exciting experience, with less gold (like 4x less) and more scary fights.
- Gain as much experience as you can before fighting bosses. Since they are tougher, with legendary abilities, it is safest to confront them with your party a level higher than typical.
- Do your research. Read honor-mode posts. Study up on the legendary abilities, and go into every battle with a plan.
- And most importantly, have fun.

So here we are, on the last page. Indulge my ramblings.
It's been one hell of a ride, managing to devour the ten big books in what is a little over a year I think at this point. To say it took me for a ride is an understatement. I haven't been invested in an actual book series for a while now, few standalone novels here and there, but nothing like this.
I don't think I posted my detailed thought on DoD, perhaps it was for the best. Because I truly see it as but a half of a book. While in the past some malazan books picked up right after others, DG and MOI continue directly after GoTM, HOC continues on to DG. It was never with such immediacy. TCG starting second after DoD, heck starting before its end, because we see Cotillion take hold of Lostara.
I had gotten used to a certain pace within these books. Book 1 would be a sort of overture, we see new characters, we see old characters, a cast is assembled. Book 2 expands on the main plot of the book, what will this all be about, plans are set in motion. Book 3, the plans mature, we see a convergance on the horizon. Book 4, we get a convergance. The roller coaster has reached the highest point and goes into free fall.
DoD essentially gets us to the end of Book 2, a midway finale, we have met all the players, we know what the plan is. We are moving towards it.
It was a hard read, because the cast was just overflowing. Usually I praise SE for those small scenes, of the soldiers shooting the shit as they march, between fights and all that. I still like them, but was getting overwhelmed with just how many we were getting. I had to take out my notebook again to keep track of the squads and command structure.
It is a bit of a blur compared to TCG, kalyth, the snake, the shake, the ghosts, tool, toc, torrent, trade guild, grey helms, queen abastral, her daughter, tavore, ublala etc.
The snake being the most jarring and confusing element, it took by far the longest to get used to it and wrap my brain around it properly. Similar to the ghosts.
What left me the most angry and annoyed was olar ethils meddling between Toc and Tool. There are plenty of hateable and evil bastards in the series, individuals it is fun to hate. Olar was not one, she felt like a nuissance. Toc and Tool not getting an ounce of bloody mercy left me very jaded. But I will get into more on that later.
I think I will just jump to TCG.
I did not know what to expect as an ending. I have been disappointed plenty of times. It is no small feat to cap off 14 000 pages of such a rich, complicated and elaborate world. I had no illusion that everything will be neat and tidy, a happily ever after. This not that kind of story.
Steven Erickson did do the series justice. That is the best way I think I can phrase it. It was not what I expected, it was not what I wanted for some characters. But I cannot disagree or see it ending other way.
Those who have followed my rantings while reading will know of my disagreement witht the idea "THE STORY IS ABOUT HOPE". Considering the amount of failure, misery, cruelty and a whole lot more the story dumps on to some characters. My opinion has changed, not fully, but it has. It was not due to the final scene with them defending with the crippled god. It was due to Torrent.
I was so invested in him. He felt so human so mortal, yet despite it all. He kept going. That moment when Olar confronts the guild, mappo and the rest, when they all stand uselessly pissing themselves as she demands the kids. Torrent is the only one to stand up, to go with her. I truly lost a lot of respect for Mappo then.
We don't know what happens to Torrent. He gets the killshot on the witch bitch, then falls down a fissure. I read that line, hoping that he survives. Until someone says otherwise I will keep hoping.
Another character is Cotillion, the most human god of all. I can hardly recognise him from the start of GOTM.....
TCG felt to me what "Return of the king" felt to some of my friends. From the andii kneeling to the shake in respect for holding out, to Korlat and WJ. "And wait he will", that had me straight up bawling for several minutes
Regarding our favourite Trell...when he met with Calm, I knew how it would end. From how clumsily he handled himself to the exhaustion, he never stood a chance. Ublala could have never arrived on time, for he was meant to take up that torch, like so many before him. "I remembered something", there is that feeling again. Hope.
Tavore...tavore....how far she has come.
I hated her, I hated her so much. From DG all the way to TBH. All the politics, betrayal and bullshit leaving me expecting she was just like Surly or Rel. Boy was I wrong. "I lost her", of all the things expected, it was not that. It all came crashing down with just those three words when she met Ganoes. All her weight, all she did. It made sense.
Yedan's last stand and death hurt, but in the same way Rake's did. It was not in vain, they both died for the cause they believed in. They won.
Now.....tool, toc and hetan. This is going to be controversial. I was aware of something bad happening in DoD, that much was hinted by several sources. It was horrific, but didn't have the same impact some of past horrors did. I find it hard to explain, but what made it worse was....her coming back like nothing happened.
I might be reading it in the wrong way. Ressurection in any fantasy series is a dangerous can of worms, the moment an author uses it, he has to start making up excuses for why it cannot be done every time. Malazan handled it by showing just how nasty the cost is. Rhulad being driven more insane every time he came back, escapees from Hood's realm looking like zombies etc.. Even Hedge reuniting with Fiddler, it is endlessly fraught and warped their relationship.
I like that Tool got a happy ending, but her just coming back like that. It felt cheap and made me resent we couldn't get other characters back the same way. The whole Tool and Toc thing just got me angry and not in a fun way.
I could go on and on, but I needed to get this lot off my chest first.
This series changed me and the way I appreciate stories/characters. There is not a single person in malazan you can point to who is fully good or evil (except the liosan and assail, fuccccccckkkkkkkk them). Humans are messy, despite the best of intent, the world will not let us be good, nor is it easy to be good. We do stuff that seemingly contradicts what we stand for, what we value, knowing the immediate pain it will cause, but holding out hope it will be worth it in the long run.
I am far from done with Malazan. Novels of the malazan empire are next on my reading list. But I will be taking a bit of a break to reset. There is a real danger of getting fatigued with the series, the worst hitting right during DoD.

I think I will just jump to TCG.
I did not know what to expect as an ending. I have been disappointed plenty of times. It is no small feat to cap off 14 000 pages of such a rich, complicated and elaborate world. I had no illusion that everything will be neat and tidy, a happily ever after. This not that kind of story.
Steven Erickson did do the series justice. That is the best way I think I can phrase it. It was not what I expected, it was not what I wanted for some characters. But I cannot disagree or see it ending other way.
Those who have followed my rantings while reading will know of my disagreement witht the idea "THE STORY IS ABOUT HOPE". Considering the amount of failure, misery, cruelty and a whole lot more the story dumps on to some characters. My opinion has changed, not fully, but it has. It was not due to the final scene with them defending with the crippled god. It was due to Torrent.
I was so invested in him. He felt so human so mortal, yet despite it all. He kept going. That moment when Olar confronts the guild, mappo and the rest, when they all stand uselessly pissing themselves as she demands the kids. Torrent is the only one to stand up, to go with her. I truly lost a lot of respect for Mappo then.
We don't know what happens to Torrent. He gets the killshot on the witch bitch, then falls down a fissure. I read that line, hoping that he survives. Until someone says otherwise I will keep hoping.
Another character is Cotillion, the most human god of all. I can hardly recognise him from the start of GOTM.....
TCG felt to me what "Return of the king" felt to some of my friends. From the andii kneeling to the shake in respect for holding out, to Korlat and WJ. "And wait he will", that had me straight up bawling for several minutes
Regarding our favourite Trell...when he met with Calm, I knew how it would end. From how clumsily he handled himself to the exhaustion, he never stood a chance. Ublala could have never arrived on time, for he was meant to take up that torch, like so many before him. "I remembered something", there is that feeling again. Hope.
Tavore...tavore....how far she has come.
I hated her, I hated her so much. From DG all the way to TBH. All the politics, betrayal and bullshit leaving me expecting she was just like Surly or Rel. Boy was I wrong. "I lost her", of all the things expected, it was not that. It all came crashing down with just those three words when she met Ganoes. All her weight, all she did. It made sense.
Yedan's last stand and death hurt, but in the same way Rake's did. It was not in vain, they both died for the cause they believed in. They won.
Now.....tool, toc and hetan. This is going to be controversial. I was aware of something bad happening in DoD, that much was hinted by several sources. It was horrific, but didn't have the same impact some of past horrors did. I find it hard to explain, but what made it worse was....her coming back like nothing happened.
I might be reading it in the wrong way. Ressurection in any fantasy series is a dangerous can of worms, the moment an author uses it, he has to start making up excuses for why it cannot be done every time. Malazan handled it by showing just how nasty the cost is. Rhulad being driven more insane every time he came back, escapees from Hood's realm looking like zombies etc.. Even Hedge reuniting with Fiddler, it is endlessly fraught and warped their relationship.
I like that Tool got a happy ending, but her just coming back like that. It felt cheap and made me resent we couldn't get other characters back the same way. The whole Tool and Toc thing just got me angry and not in a fun way.
I could go on and on, but I needed to get this lot off my chest first.
This series changed me and the way I appreciate stories/characters. There is not a single person in malazan you can point to who is fully good or evil (
I am far from done with Malazan. Novels of the malazan empire are next on my reading list. But I will be taking a bit of a break to reset. There is a real danger of getting fatigued with the series, the worst hitting right during DoD.
So yeah....cool book series...

I’m new to boxing & I just watched their fight as it was recently uploaded to YouTube for free and Ryan Garcia does look skinnier than usual and I’ve seen a few videos saying he was “drained from losing so much weight”… but I thought they were in the same weight class…? To me, they both look like they hover around 140-145lbs naturally, and they fought at 136lbs. So I’m confused as to how losing 5-10lbs drained Ryan so badly? What am I missing?

I’m exhausted, mentally and physically. The highs are intense and overstimulating, uncomfortable even. The lows are dark and scary. Every day I battle thoughts of every single person around me being against me, fighting the thought that those who love me or barely know me are out to get me, want me out of their lives. Then I remind myself how self centered this is and get down on myself for that. I have periods of motivation. Keeping track of a list of skills that I diligently use. I feel proud of myself. Maybe I can be stable I think. Then I feel it. The pressure of it all. The weight of everything I pushed down and worked to hard to manage comes out of my heart at full force. It’s almost a relief in a way. I can finally rest the part of me that works so hard to keep the symptoms at bay and let them loose. Free to exist and I can rest but at the cost of a terrible destruction behind me. I am again self alienated. It then feels as if everything I was was doing, all the skills all the mantras all the healthy life style choices, never was helpful in the first place. I was just turning my wheels. I’m just tired. Hope this makes sense.

I (24F) am in a long distance relationship with my bf (35M) for a little over a year. Currently I'm studying in my home country and I am finishing my 1st year of bachelor's this year. My home country is not where I want to stay because of mentality and politics. Original plan for me and my bf was that I finish my bachelor's and start master's in his country or we move somewhere else together. That would be approximately mid 2026 if everything goes as planned.
Lately, my boyfriend has been in a crisis because of the distance. He is saying that he can't handle the distance, not seeing me very often and he has been making big deal out of anything and escalating arguments with me, his family and coworkers because he is frustrated and lonely. His mood is changing from being patient and just happy to have me, to wanting to break up, and that goes in circle, because he can't handle the distance.
During our last fight (he told me he got mad because I am going out with friends without means of communication because I broke my phone, but when we actually talked about it, it was all about the distance) I came up with a possibility that I am not so sure is a smart idea but could also be a great opportunity to leave this hole which I want to leave asap since this year's "elections".
The idea is that I finish this year of uni, quit, move to his country, start learning a language and start uni there in academic year 2025/26 when I would, again, be a 1st year. That year I could possibly graduate uni here if I don't fail any years again (I am not a greatest student). I would move in with him and he would put me through school. He was ecstatic hearing that I might move in within few months. Even before I mentioned this he said he won't be able to keep missing me for 2 years and is reaching his breaking point and that, as much as he tries, he will probably end up breaking up or fu*k up beyond repair.
Our relationship wasn't the best for the last year. He is always saying that most of our problems would go away if we were closer. It has been rocky and we had a period where we fought every week over stupid things that I don't even remember now. I know this guy loves me a lot and would do anything for me and I love him too. But if something happens and we break up I won't have anyone to lean on (I do have a friend in his country and worst case scenario she would help me but I don't want to bring her in that situation). If I fail uni here I can always go back home.
The biggest issue I have with this is starting uni again. I paused school to work and figure out what I want, had an injury (spent my small savings for treatment), and all that put me back from accomplishing my goal of getting a degree and finding a job that I like and stop getting financial help from my mom. My boyfriend says that losing this extra years doesn't matter because we will be together (which, yes, we would be together, yay!) but I can't help but feel stupid and like a loser for prolonging uni for so long. His country has one of the best opportunities for me in my field of study which is also a big plus but just this feeling like I have been wasting my time here when I will start again is killing me.

Am i screwed?. I'll keep this really simple, I sold a mac pro online, Was sent to Portland Oregon and received by signature 11 days ago. Person contacts me yesterday to say there's a lock on it and it's a company computer. This is not true, i got it from a points system through a company i do business with for free, it came to me sealed in the box, i used it for a month, literally just used it to watch some movies on a trip, decided i wasn't using it alot otherwise and really needed some extra cash so i thought I'd offload it as i got it for free
I already factory reset it and it was ready to go, but the guy contacts me showing me an Amazon log in screen for employees and says it's a bad computer. He then proceeds to tell me he knows a place that can unlock it for$200. I'm very suspicious so i fight it, he sends me a very small pic of the back of the computer conforming the serial number, to prove its the same. I receive no large pictures of the laptop.
We then decided after much back and forth that he's sending it back for a refund. I'm terrified he's sending me a locked computer in its place and I'll have to refund him... What can i do??
Edit....Do you know that I received the laptop back today and it wasn't even the one I sent. It was a completely different model. It is a night and day different model so this is a complete bait and switch he is trying to pull. I sent my old pictures and the new pictures to eBay. There is no way that they let him get away with this is there?? I mean he didn't even try to make it look like the one I sent, it's all scratched, he sent me a pic of my serial number to confirm and this one even has a different serial number on it. I mean who is he trying to fool. AND he didnt even return a charging cable, the audacity. Grrrrrr.
*****2nd edit.....5/14/24. GOT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!. I was denied after the first investigation but decided to appeal while supplying a police report. I was then asked to sign an official affidavit under threat of perjury that what i was saying was truthful and this morning they approved my return and it was done instantly. Faith restored, in ebay anyway not in that buyer. Keep at it and maybe just massive fate will work in your favor. I don't think I'll ever sell high end stuff again though.

i noticed as we flew through the sky, on our way to regroup with Lobelia's group, that in this dragon form drew in energy as i flew, maybe in a way to maintain the form, this was too new for me to know at this time. it didn't take long to reach the spot to regroup with Lobelia, but when we arrived, we didn't see anyone around the area. i decided to come in for a landing, since i figured we might have arrived a bit early and i didn't want to cause a panic in this form in case someone else came along. as i was landing, i suddenly felt a rumbling through the ground, questioning if this was a quake or something else. it didn't take long to get my answer since a mere moment later we saw a huge explosion off in the distance. i had an uneasy feeling about this, as i turned my head to look at Clint, Bruno, and Vince, whom all had the same feeling. with no words exchanged, i took back to the sky and headed in the direction of the explosion, hoping that this wouldn't be a repeat of my village. while we were still approaching the area, we saw a green light fired into the air roughly where we were heading. Clint yelled out to me, letting me know that was a distress flare the elf group used during their share travels following me to Dragonus. i started to pick up speed, as the group tighten their grips, to try to get to them sooner. when we arrived over head, we looked down on a field full of beasts, monsters, and demons. what once was an unknown future has finally come to a head and we had no other choice but to engage the enemies.
as we flew over the battlefield, i started to fire off different elemental dragon blasts to thin out the enemy groupings and help find where Lobelia's group was exactly located. they fired off another distress flare spell, allowing me to lock on to their location, at which time Clint's group heard me speak for the first time in this form. "do you trust me?", to which they each nodded, "then release your grip and follow me", to with they did. at this moment, i released the dragon form, sending us all into a free fall toward the ground. Vince started to cast every buff he could think of as we fell on the party, while Bruno, Clint, and i drew our weapons for battle. i focus energy into one of my hands and with a swing of my arm, i enveloped the group in wind barriers. just before we were about to make impact, i went into a drive-bomb stance, while charging as many elements as i could into my weapon. upon impact, my weapon blew apart, unleashing the elements and weapon fragments through the area, causing massive explosions, wiping out hundreds of enemies at once. Clint, Bruno, and Vince came in a mere moment later, causing shock waves around the area, sending enemies flying. i quickly pulled out two swords to duel-wield, has we started to fight our way through the hoards of enemies, making our way over to Lobelia's group. Clint's group went to fortify Lobelia's group, while i continued to thin the ranks in front of us, unleashing everything i learned during my training. Vince and a few of the elves cast various team buff abilities on me, as the others aided from behind, guessing worried that one of my new skills might catch them by accident. Lobelia took advantage of some strong winds approaching and caused the wind to form a few tornadoes on the battlefield with air magic. something inside told me what i should do, almost as if by memory, i combined together ground and fire elements and slammed the spell into the ground toward one of the tornadoes. followed by shooting off water and ice spells into another, then finishing by firing off a lightning dragon blast down the center of the field, taking out numerous enemies before hit another one of the tornadoes. the ground started to rumble as it split open and lava strayed out, heading toward the first tornadoes, opening a volcanic eruption underneath, forming a magma twister. the water and ice struck the next one, forming high speed ice tornado. the lightning hit another one, whipping it around until it became a voltaic twister. these three ripped through the battlefield, wiping out hoards of enemies by the second, until all three smashed together causing a huge explosion over the entire battlefield. we all quickly took cover, as everything came raining down, wiping everything out. as the dust started to settle, we all regrouped, everyone absolutely stunned by what just happened. when we could finally see the field again, we saw that there was still someone standing out in the middle of the battlefield. the lone survivor yelled out at us "you'll have to do better then that to kill me", just then realizing, he seemed to be a high ranked demon.
the demon stood there, staring us down, waiting for one of us to make a move. we debilitated if we should spread the group back out some, so that we wouldn't be seen as a single target for the demon. i told the group that i would go in for the attack to hold his attention and they should provide back up and support when they saw an opening. i stepped forward out of the group and started to walk toward the demon, as it started to smirk back at me. after i got enough distance between me and the group, i did a quick flap of my wings to shoot myself forward at the demon and start the battle. the demon readied for contact, as a mere moment later we made first contact of battle. in a flash the battle begin with us blasting around the battlefield, firing off attacks and spells nearly faster then the eye can see. everyone else took any small opportunity they saw to try and aid with buffs, spells, and attacks. the demon seemed annoyed by the interference to our battle and start to fire off attacks back at the others any chance he got. this battle continued as a stalemate for half a day, which the demon took any opportunity when we locked in a clash to taunt me. it would says things each time such as "this world is already going to be destroyed", "you all don't stand a chance", "you really think you can save them", and more of the like. it wouldn't be long before the demon started to put it's words into action, as a few of the elves shot off infused arrows at it when they saw an opening, just for the demon to catch them mid flight and redirect the arrows back at them, sending the arrows straight through their skulls and killing half the elves in Lobelia's group. this threw the groups into a panic, which caused them to act rashly in an attempt to take out the demon. Lobelia and Vince stayed back casting buffs and heals on the remaining people, while the remaining few elves, Clint and Bruno jumped into the battle in an attempt to end this. before i could stop them, they charged in for the attack and i needed to try my best to stop the demon from getting them as well. the battle intensified as we attacked from all sides in an attempt to overwhelm the demon and hopefully turn the fight in our favor. it seemed to be working as we seemed to be slowly damaging it, that is until i realized my attacks were the only few that actually doing damage. the demon suddenly smirked again and i quickly yelled out for them to get back, but by this point it was too late. as Clint went in for a swift strike, the demon caught his sword arm, ripping it out at the shoulder socket, and plunging his sword through his head. the few elves followed shortly after when the demon ripped one in half while skewering two more with it's tail, before smashing another's head in with a headbutt and the last one being sent flying with a kick to the chest and splattering on the ground upon impact. i had already moved in to try and stop him, but kept getting knocked back, as it's focus was on the other people here. Bruno went in for an attack as the demon was dealing with me and managed to chop off one of it's wings before it turned around and grabbed Bruno by the neck. before i could stop it, the demon plunged it's other hand straight through Bruno's armor and chest, ripping his heart out. before tossing Bruno's body aside, the demon took the sword from Bruno's hands and threw it in a spinning motion toward Vince, slicing him in two. before it could do anything to Lobelia, i fired off a full elemental dragon breath, blasting a giant hole through the demon. as i stood over the demon, readying to kill him, i asked if he had anything to say before i ended him. the ground started to rumble and quack as he said to us, "you fools, it's already too late, i was but a distraction. your world falls now!". i chopped off it's head as we hear explosions in the distance and the ground starts in split open and crumble. after all that had happened, everything we went through, and losing all but me and Lobelia, was this truly the end for us?

I have the handmades valued in 4 tiers:
- D tier are my trashy cheapies, made from reclaimed components. I don't feel right asking a lot for reclaimed components. I value them in the $40 - $50 range, not really picky about what I trade for. I might even take dirt pedals for these. Only got one left, trying to phase out this tier.
- C tier are the cheapies made with new components. I value these in the $50 - $60 range, not very picky here either.
- B tier are my average builds, I will trade for pedals in the $65-$90 value range, depending on the complexity of the build. A little pickier, but still pretty open.
- A tier are my happy happy builds, usually more complex or just nicer quality. I will be picky about trades for these. (But still not Boutique prices; I have no delusions). It's probably less about value here and more about how much I actually want the thing you have. Think in the $90 - $130 range.

I'm wide open to trades for music gear of all kinds and other items of value.
Some Priority Wants:
- A next level looper like the Pigtronix Infinity 3. Feeling limited by my current setup. Something with MIDI sync, multiple loop tracks, tempo sync.
- Boss OC-5.
- A reverb with a really good plate algorithm.
- Compact 12 channel mixer. Preferably a Mackie VLZ or similar.
- Isolated pedal power supply.
- Genuine e-Bow. Already own 2 clones, looking to try the real shebang.
- A multiple-MIDI I/O unit.
- A 1-U rack-mount mixer.
- Money.
- Pedals, naturally:
- Especially fancy DSP type pedals (the kind I can't build), or a nice analog flangechorus.
- Decent analog pedals that need repair. Expect a lot of questions and not much value, though.
- Check "probably not wants" below
- Studio gear like mics, headphones, cables, small mixers, rack gear, etc.
- Synths and midi gear, especially cheap stuff like Volcas or Reface, etc. Really need a MIDI interface with multiple I/O.
- I kinda dig old casio/yamaha cheapies.
- Drum machines are interesting to me.
- Musical instruments? I play about everything, or would like to try anyway.
- I'd like to acquire a tele style guitar at some point. Even just a cheapie knockoff.
- If you've got a not-too-expensive Ibanez fretless bass (or similar), let's talk. I'll offer things on the secret menu.
- Also Non-music things:
- Unbuilt pedal kits, pedal enclosures, bulk lots of electronics parts, etc.
- Electronics/DIY tools or supplies (scope, transistor tester, solder, etc)
- Something weird and creative. Random items of modest value you want to get rid of. Handmade items that are giftable.
- Did I mention money? I do paypal and venmo.
- Dirt pedals. Might make an exception for something really intriguing, though.
- Eurorack modules, unless anyone wants to trade me a whole starter setup (yeah, probably not, right?)
- Guitaamp/cab parts. Not really into modding that stuff. Yet.
- Behringer pedals. Just not a fan.
- Any pedal whose value is primarily as a collectible (Vintage, Rare editions/colorways/signature models, etc)
- If I can get it on Amazon or Reverb for under $50, I'd rather we bundled a few things to make it worth the shipping cost.
