Hey Guys and Girls
I feel lost and slightly depressed.
I took a deep dive into Sveltekit and love it so far. I've created a Website for a client, which is a very small, newly founded non-profit Organisation without much funds. I host the site on Github and deploy to Vercel.
On the kick-off meeting we discussed what this App needs to be able to in a few months. Of course they want to be able to edit content themselves but more importantly, they want their members to have a login and be able to add content and files. These files should be made public to download on a protected area for other members.
So I research what kind of CMS there are and not a single one meets our criteria. Mostly because they are to expensive. Every free version doesn't meet the criteria on multi role based content editing. Those who have open-source versions to self-host, like Directus, which would actually be perfect for us, because it has file-management and an LMS , but I really just have not enough experience in Dev-Ops to set this up myself. If we want to use Directus in the Cloud, it cost $99 a month. That will be 1200 a year which means half of the funds this non-profit receives goes just into the CMS cost(!). Its not like we will have thousands of users across the globe. We will have hundreds at maximum. Why don't they have a scale-plan?
Anyway, I invested a lot of time setting this site up and now I just don't know how to progress from here. I will begin to setup Lucia Auth next, so at least the members can login and see protected content. But it looks like i will be editing the whole site for a while until i find that magic unicorn of a CMS which is simple, cheap and meets our criteria :()

I know I should be talking with my partner about this but I like to lurk on the internet. So my current predicament needs some background. Roughly two years ago I was in a serious relationship for 7 years and my gf at the time (I’m a male) came out to me as gay and moved across the country not too soon after telling me ( we shared a house together and we weren’t married). I think we ended amicably at the end but it still hurt me. During that time I owned a home and hated my job. All of the above occurred in the summer of 2022. As soon as I quit my job and sold my house I started to an accelerated medical program also in 2022. This is where my issue starts. A girl I know we’ll say her name is “Tamara” asked me to be FWB.
Tamara knew me from the previous job but in process of her moving up in the company she moved to South Carolina. I currently live up north in the US. So she got in contact with me and wanted to come to the place I moved back to, to come and visit. I said sure because we were pretty good friends. (I want to add the medical program I’m in gives me the ability to work anywhere in the US so I can chose where I complete my clinical hours. This comes into play later).
The first visit nothing happened between us. In between visits she asks to be FWB I say yes but tells me it can be messy. I agree. This goes on for a year and a half. Mid way point last year because our relationship was just exclusively FWB we discussed at the beginning that we were free to seek other people out. So I went on few dates. Tamara was not happy with me so I ended up stopping the dates in between her visits. At the point when I stopped the dates I was about to start my clinical rotations and I had an interview for a site coming up. I was unable to get matched in an area near South Carolina which is what Tamara wanted so we could be close. I matched at a place up North an hour from me. So throughout my clinical rotation Tamara has been “gently” encouraging me to move in with her in South Carolina.
I have some concerns about moving because I know the area is saturated for the medical job I have and it’s damn near impossible for new grads to get work. So I press on through the program. 1/3 of the way through. I get a message saying we need to talk. I get a phone call from Tamara saying she has an STD and I should get checked. Needless to say I was not happy. A week later I got checked and had it also. I was beside myself. I knew I was being an idiot and I know people make mistakes but I definitely got checked after our encounters but I digress. After this things seemed to have cooled a little. With news of the STD I told her fuck it I’ll just move down after I graduate but I’m still struggling with the idea of fully committing to moving there because of the struggles I will face. Now currently I have a few weeks left of my program and I want to change my mind about moving down and I know it will break her heart but I was doing what was right for her and not for myself. So would I be the asshole for calling things off and staying put to get work experience?
TLDR: I ended a long term relationship. I got into medical school that allows me to work anywhere in the US. An old co-worker hits me up to hang but we live in different states. We become FWB. I get an STD from our interactions which soured my mood a little. I tell her I will move down to be closer to date but now I want to take it back because I know how hard it will be to get a job where she lives currently and I’m not sure I can commit to the things she wants.

So, I've been at this 'company' for two years now. Started out I thought it would just be a one year stint, since I had nothing else to do with my life after graduating college with a non direct career major, and I initially liked the company, but since they've been lately more concerned about advancing than about helping people, and plus they take advantage of the low pay workers (this is a "Mom and pop" type of organization) and they frequently will do whatever they can to screw over the (well meaning) worker in the name of "the greater cause" and everything is scheduled for you, to a a T, and any interruption of this schedule is very frowned on, meaning if you have to take time off (even for emergency) you have to find a replacement for your scheduled shift. It's a live in community type work, where you get free housing if you are on staff, so that's one perk, but the management is my biggest concern with staying at this point. As I said earlier, I was only planning on staying one year, but they talked me into another year with a bump in salary (because I think they were in a crunch to get a new project up and they needed people for it). I like my coworkers, even though I'm an introvert and usually have difficulty connecting with people, but for the most part, no one makes fun of me for being different, but the teasing still exists. There's more than teasing that gets me, it's more anytime I have an idea at a meeting, and I try to speak my mind, if it isn't in agreemenr with what the boss says, it gets met with harsh and sometimes degrading criticism disguised as teasing (and he sometimes does it to other people)--even if I'm well articulated in my suggestion too.
I'm currently at a cross roads where I can either stay an extra year (the boss just offered me an increase in pay, which is small, but significant) if I came back another year, and a potential at another site if I stayed the whole year, which would be a relief, but I'm still concerned for my mental health at this place. I have very few options at this point. I'm 28, with limited experience (as I said, I have a bachelor's degree, in an unsellable major) and am at this place where I could either stay and there might be something, or cut my losses and start over on something I have no clue yet in.
I'm done with the 9 month commitment tomorrow, and then I have the summer free, and my boss wants to know before I leave whether or not I plan on returning for a third year before I leave, so I'm just a little nervous about deciding tomorrow, and have very little interest either way. No one knows how much I struggle after work and that I pretty much just put on a good face to get me by each day, but am secretly struggling each day (I hate telling anyone so their don't think less of me). I feel like I have to make this decision or else, and I really feel very distressed about deciding to commit or having to make a completely new plan for myself from nothing. :/
Anyone have any advice?

Hi, thank you all for the responses, I feel more confident that I did the right thing in that situation. Now, this isn't really that much of an update, but to also clarify the situation and answer some of the questions I've seen you guys posted on the comments of my first post.
Last night I went to my best friend's house(I will call him R) to talk about the situation, since he is also a part of the friend group and I know him to be more mature and insightful in situations like these, as well as providing a new perspective from someone who's watched the situation from a closer standpoint. I gave him the details and why I decided to reject our friend. He supported my choice and told to have a talk with her and our other friends as well to clarify the situation and to see my reasoning, which I would try to do on the weekend or when they agree to meet me. I haven't spoken to any of our other friends in the circle to avoid any unnecessary distractions since we are all busy with our lives. He also told me to post the reason why I rejected her and to clarify some things. So here I go:
  1. The first thing I wanted to clarify is that she isn't someone who played the field during college, she did not get into a relationship until a year after her graduation and has been working. As far as I remember, she's been into one relationship that lasted for more than a year, and has been seeing other guys after, but all of their interactions where mostly on discord and other social media platforms. She is also from a religious family and is quite religious herself, so she hasn't been sleeping around. I know this because, as I've said before, we are actually close and we do talk about each other's relationships as well. If anybody should be slut-shamed, it's me. We live in a Southeast Asian country with very strong religious beliefs, and rigid traditional values including a patriarchal society that has been embedded to our history. (Not sure if I should add this information about where we are but I think it kinda helps a bit.)
  2. When I posted that I lessened contact with her, I should have said that it was as close as to no contact with her, with me not going out with her anymore for drinks, food, etc., ignoring her messages on and just greeting her on birthdays and other occasions, and that period lasted for a year, give or take a few months. The realizations that I had when I walked away from our friendship was that I was smitten with her not because of her personality or looks, but that she was giving me attention and was kind. I felt back then that she was a good person and that I had a chance with her since we've known each other through childhood. I realized that I felt that I wanted to be with her because she would be nice enough to say yes to me. I was in a place back then where I never really talked to other women with the intent of actually dating them because for me, she was already there. Once I had free time, I started actually going out on dates, and realized that I kinda fucked up our friendship.
  3. R told me to add this info, since he feels that the biggest reason why she asked me out, and that is that her family is pressuring her to get married, or at least be in a relationship. As I've said before, she was raised in a religious family and that family comes with societal values that seems misogynistic. She is the eldest of three siblings, and one of her younger female cousins is already engaged. I knew about her parents hounding her and how she feels about the situation, and I kinda feel stupid not thinking that this might have influenced her decision. I think I was caught off-guard by the situation to actually think about it.
  4. I rejected her asking me out because I just don't see her in a romantic way. I think a huge part of my rejection is that I know what my preferences are now and she doesn't have that. I prefer someone who can call me out on my bullsh*t and tell me things straight to my face, and she doesn't have that in her personality, she has a hard time saying no to her parents and to the guys she's dating, unless it's something that ignores her values and such. I have also been confused about any more reasons why I rejected her, because I know she's attractive because she gets attention from other guys when we go out, and she's also a good person, in general, but honestly, I just don't have any romantic attraction to her, and I think that would be enough of a reason. She's a close friend of mine, we talk most nights, we talk about our dating life, we shit on each other's bad dates, we use each other's dating apps sometimes to look for a date for each other, and that's just it. I have been thinking about what she said, that I was trying to get back at her for the previous rejection, but I don't feel like that was what I was doing. I never wanted to hurt her, but I also don't want to be in a relationship with her.
Right now, I agree that she feels entitled to me and that maybe she is keeping me as a back-up. R also agrees that what she did was wrong, but that the mixture of alcohol and parents resulted in her being desperate since her actions seemed to deviate from how we knew her.
I would like to say sorry for not realizing that she may have been in the wrong headspace when she asked me out, and not telling you guys more about the situation she was in, I just thought she was handling it herself and never really thought how a situation like that could affect a person. Honestly, I would like to keep our friendship, even with the others who sent me hurtful messages, we've known each other for a long time and have seen each of us grow into adults, I just don't know how. Right now, I just want to talk to them for clarification, and how it was weird for me how she handled the rejection, (and weirder that she even asked me out in the first place) and to know everything that lead to this situation. I feel like I can only decide on what I should do once I know more about the situation.
That is all for now, i don't know if I could or would update, as any progress to this situation would start only if she talks to me again about the situation. I also feel like I should delete this post since I feel like her situation with her family is a private matter and not for me to share online, even anonymously. Iso is by far the weakest agent in the game, so let's take a look on how he could get buffed. It's rather difficult to buff Iso to be honest, because there are rather limited ways to do so:
Which brings me to really the most obvious ability to buff: Iso's wall. The wall is just bad. There's no use sugarcoating it. It's one of the worst, if not the worst, abilities in the game. Why is it so bad? One of the reasons is because you can't stop it whenever you want like Harbor's wall. This makes it almost completely useless on defense, as you can't block off a chokepoint with it to delay/stop an execute. It also lasts a pretty short amount of time at just 4.6 seconds when fully formed and is narrower than Harbor's wall.
This leads to most people suggesting the wall be buffed to work like Harbor's wall where Iso could stop it anytime he wants. However, I don't like this idea and I don't think Riot likes it either because it takes away from the uniqueness of both Iso and Harbor's walls. Other basic ideas include making the wall wider or having it last longer. These basic ideas could definitely be good changes, but I propose that Riot should lean into the anti-bullet shield idea of the wall and also make it block projectiles. This would work like the buy phase barrier where projectiles such as Killjoy mollies, Raze nades, Sova darts, really any projectile would just bounce off the wall.
I believe this change could make Iso viable even in coordinated pro play. In fact, this buff may have the biggest impact in pro play but would be a great buff across the board at all elos.
For starters, this would make Iso much better on defense. As soon as a site exec starts, Iso can just drop the wall and suddenly the Sova dart bounces back in Sova's face, the Viper molly drops to the floor, etc., etc.
This buff would also have the funny additional benefit of denying lineups. When you see that Brim molly flying at the spike, just throw the wall and suddenly the lineup misses and you can stick the defuse.
But the greatest impact might just be that this change could maybe make Iso viable on Lotus. In my opinion, Lotus was already one of Iso's better maps in ranked as it is one of the few maps where his wall in its current state can be useful on attack. It's decent at denying the default C long peek while your team takes mound. B site is one of the only sites where the wall can actually be fully utilized to cover waterfall while you exec because it's such a short site. Iso also has some decent plays on defense as his vulnerable is very useful to combo with a Raze nade every round on defense to fight A, and it is not as valuable as an Omen flash so you could always do it every round (plus he has two of them).
The Lotus meta has always been to heavily fight for A rubble control. Some teams always do it, some teams do it less, but all teams do it pretty frequently and have multiple set plays for fighting A rubble. Even during ranked games across all ranks people know to fight for it on defense, throwing Raze nades and Omen blinds.
If Iso's wall was buffed to reflect projectiles, he would be extremely valuable on Lotus attack as he could throw the wall on A every round to completely shut down any defender aggression. The wall serves a dual purpose as you and your team can get across to rubble for free behind cover. You would essentially get easy rubble control every round for 200 credits.
If we're talking specifically pro scene, having that free rubble control may already be enough to make Iso a niche pick. However, this could also have the added benefit of allowing teams to switch from Omen to Brim as their primary controller. Some teams already have shown that they prefer Brim, such as NRG or Navi, although it is still considered a niche pick. One reason teams go for Omen is because of how good the Omen flash can be for fighting for A. However, if teams used Iso they could use the Iso vulnerable instead and also pick Brim without having to sacrifice all of the capabilities of the Omen flash.
As a final note, I know that some people will probably complain about how it is too OP if you can just drop a wall and completely shut down a Raze rocket or Deadlock ult, but do remember that a simple Kayo knife can already do that.

2024.05.15 07:34 KayRocky In response to the Bots and Nid players (complainers)

You bots and Nids have it so easy. At least your units have a chance. Just because I downloaded the free to play mobile version of the game I’m stuck with SEAF. I refuse to buy into the pay to win mechanics of the game. Yea I drop a few thousands RC (mind you I make like 10RC a week) and I can be an oh so cool helldiver. But nooooo that’s for super citizens only!
Meanwhile I’m over here dealing with farmers as my low tech units. Sure they have a breach action shotgun…. But I’m no farmer with a gun and they ain’t no sayain. I have to IMMEDIATELY tech into bunkers and barracks with a research station! Otherwise I won’t even be able to get my SEAF site up in time.
And before you know it those positions will be over run by patrols and my workers turned it fodder for bot builds and food for the Nids.
Oh sure I can at least cap some Nids and get oil reserves going. But then I can barely afford to build radar stations that will let me find the samples on the map that will then unlock mini nukes for my Artillery sites.
But good luck getting those going at any reasonable speed!! I mean for god sakes the AA site is ONLY able to target Dropships… not even gunships! Much less shriekers. Hell why even have the option to build them on bug planets!?! No one does and never will!!
Research and tech trees are so screwed up for SEAF players… like when will we ever get a patch?! I swear we were only included in the game to be “motivation” for helldivers. It’s like we are literally props!?
If one of my worlds get invaded it’s either protect my civis (they only half to run like 50 yards max thank god) or I get people loaded in crypto pods to at least save my leveled up units…. But jeeze it’s like the devs just made this faction… and then forgot about it.
If o have to hear one more time about a bot player complaining about microing a Flame hulk… at least your ships don’t drop your research currency when downed… and to the Nids who complain about chargers being slow and easily rodeod…. At least you have a medium unit! I have squads of SEAF troopers that have LITERALLY cloth armor… I’d complain about our cars/buggies… but they literally don’t work.
The only real useful thing I can do is plant hair trigger hellbombs around the map in the hopes they get ACCIDENTALLY set off…
The only reason I even play this game is so I can earn medals for my C-01 application.
Uggh…. Time to go build another set of landing beacons and start all over again.
