I will keep it short, I have Bachelor's of Commerce with a Major in Accounting from India (Nationality mentioned because it will a big role)
Right now I am in GCC, I am not working as a teacher but something else, I wanted to get into teaching as I am confident I can teach English & Other Subject or Primary levels
In GCC , they mostly accept from US, UK & Canada with ESL license, this is the reason I am not interested in applying here. I might be wrong tho!!!!!
I want to ask if anyone in this sub got job being in the same position as me, and if yes where was it & how?

This only happens with BOS members wearing combat armor, this happens with no other enemy in the game. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a corrupted gore file or something to do with an armor mod?
I can attack with frag grenades, but once they are aggro'ed my game stutters while facing the direction they are in, turning the opposite direction fixes this.
Any help is appreciated, I want that eyesore airship out of my Minuteman sky.

Context:
I am 25. I grew up in a family who owned and operated pizzerias in NY. I had started working on the register when I was 13 and started summer jobs as a Bussehost when I was 14. The restaurants I worked FOH were 4star high end (worked for 3). I have also always had a serious passion for cooking. When I was 18 I moved out of my home and began working for a dairy farm, then transitioned to a smoothie/salad/vegan gluten free oriented places (19-21). I was a manager making specials like gf desserts, ready to eat salads, and also worked on their equivalent of a “line”. It was not refined whatsoever, clean, simple food. Did that for 2 years. Then quit during Covid after having tremendous stress, after helping reorient the entire business to be more grocery focused as we had a store front with organic, superfood tonics, meats, plant based stuff, etc. I had issues with the kitchen manager as she treated me differently than the other staff. I immediately applied for a junior sous position at a restaurant that was upscale dining, and after a trial day they were willing to train me on garde manger. I worked their and trained under two very capable chefs who were willing to teach me everything. One 36m another 29m who was actually head chef. I moved my way up to hotline after a yr and a half and was enjoying the job, environment, coworkers, and we would do about 200 covers a night in the summer. I carried on with the company for another year even after my head chef gave a months notice and took a much better more cdc job for a larger more high end company. I took on more responsibilities and and finally decided I had reached my ceiling of learning from that restaurant and I wanted to move overseas to broaden my skillset and resume but felt like I picked the wrong country/restaurants as the food was not on par even with the smoothie salad place I started at. I moved home a year later (2024) and was offered by my now cdc chef, same one who trained me and really vouched for me. I executed a 7 course tasting for the first time ever, dishes ranging from quiche, to pork chop, sole(which I had never cooked before), chicken pot pie, croquettes, salad, basque cheesecake, I made my own stock even, and I had a day of prep and the following day to plate. I landed the job over 4 other people. It was for a “family oriented” but upscale bistro as it was on main street in a very affluent town in NY. We have investors, had a full reno as the spot had been a local favorite for 30 years a recently sold. We lost a lot of time we were supposed to be in the kitchen and the prospective opening day was for May 3rd. It got pushed back to the 10th, friends and family 7th and 8th, training of staff was 5th and 6th, while simultaneously doing recipe testing with chefs that had been brought in from other existing locations. Unbeknownst to my cdc, the investor, and restaurant owner, they hired a head chef from nyc that made good food, but could not complete 95% of tasks that were crucial to opening a restaurant, onboarding employees, understanding the kind of volume our town does in summer, actually cooking volume, properly executing recipes, having any recipes of his own that weren’t fresh off google, said he spoke Spanish and then couldn’t communicate to our staff which were all Hispanic spare 1 line cook I hired and use to work with at my first job, the wastage was off the charts, he couldn’t do inventory properly, and spent half of the time speaking constantly and ignoring everyone thinking he’s “working hard”. I took it upon myself to try and execute recipes I had 3 days to learn, make stocks, train employees and learn how to schedule, organize a kitchen from the top down, clean kitchen after a full Reno, and my cdc and the business owner kept assuring me it was not my fault that things were going sideways and that the head chef was completely incompetent and they were actively looking for a replacement. I couldn’t keep up with the prep as hard as I tried, the walk in was a disaster. Felt like every time I organized it my head chef would receive an order and do things like put raw chicken on top of produce. I found cheeses on shelves and raw ground beef in dry storage left out overnight bc of him. He would just constantly talk and talk and talk about everything and nothing, call me in the off hours to talk about a tart mold that he wanted to make in house for 2 hours. Mention things I could do to loose weight, and it was just constant stimulation leading up to the actual opening and during. All the while he would delegate every single one of the the more complex recipe tasks to our untrained employees (sauce work, chopping herbs for garnish, cutting salmon, tuna for line and for Tartares) and I felt obligated to try and pick up as much of his slack. And if I’m being realistic, I as much as the owner and former cdc who hired me believed in me, I still had a lot of refinement to do in my skillset. I have very shakey hands by nature so my knife skills leave a lot to be desired. Also I can’t just bang out a beurre blanc or mornay without thinking about it. I still have to watch and follow a recipe a few time to get the hang of it even though I understand the principles well. I anticipated a balance between my head chef and I and direction. And the worst part is, he would agree to certain tasks and I was the only one trying to organize our flow of prep, made a detailed prep list because his made absolutely no sense, and we would split tasks, I’d execute mine, and he would spend 4 hours chopping mushrooms and par cooking them even though the pick up was raw as per the owner and cdc. It was absolutely maddening. I started having break downs everyday after work NEVER on site; even when to a psychiatrist in between one of our friends and family days to get the non narcotic equivalent of Xanax. I ended up walking out yesterday (13th). More like called and said I wasn’t coming back after my first day off in a week of straight 14 hour days constantly trying to pick up the pieces my head left behind. I have never walked out a job. But now after all of this, I am questioning whether I will ever be able to have a management position in the kitchen. Asking myself, did I progress too quickly? Am I just not capable? Have I completely exhausted myself in the kitchen? Also, I am sober spare nicotene which I consume like an absolute fiend right now. Any insight is appreciated. I'm moving back to Shanghai for a long while due to family reasons and I'm been lurking on this sub for quite a while. One thing I do see mentioned is how lucrative private English tutoring is. I'm currently working from home at a medical organization (more PT chart/surgery/billing related, not as a Doctonurse) and hope to continue to do so in Shanghai as well (I've already trialed the VPN etc). I know that it's illegal to do private tutor jobs on the side, especially due to visa reasons but that's not a concern for me as I'm a Chinese national with Shanghai registration (was born here). I'm fluent in both Mandarin / Shanghainese and English.
I'm hoping to possibly expand my network and maybe transition to more opportunities and private tutoring seems like an interesting direction for me. While I don't exactly have the background, no teaching experience or certificates, I'm hoping my other skills and the fact that I graduated from a good Uni in USA could help. I also recognize that me not being ethnically white could potentially be a detriment (by how much I'm not sure).
Unfortunately I'm a bit out of the loop on how to garner private tutor jobs as from what I've mostly read on the sub and in chinalife, they are sourced mostly from current students who were already being taught or straight up ESL teaching jobs. I'm hoping someone can give me some tips or insights into how I would tap into the market.
As a side note, I'm also looking into other jobs through the various sites recommended here, especially in the medical field like Jiahui health.

Anyone who worked at VIPKID *before* the 'restructuring' might have noticed how much the company has changed.
In the past, account suspensions were rare (in fact, I never experienced one until 2023), while now, they seem to hand them out like candy for the most trivial of reasons (and almost always due to STUDENT/PARENT-SIDE issues that are blamed on the teacher - even when presented with contravening evidence).
Obviously, such heavy-handed punishments (suspensions seem to last anywhere from a week to a month) help no one when they are (as is almost always the case) the result of 'unrepresentative' petty grievances, misplaced anger, or even acts of God (such as rare and unscheduled internet outages/unforeseeable IT issues).
When teachers are 'punished' for any reason other than negligence, it becomes an 'authoritarian' exercise without constructive lessons to be learned, and with no benefit to either the complaining student/parent, company, student population (and LEAST of all the teacher - who often remains the ONLY injured party).
VIPKID claims that these policy changes are in support of students - but given the arbitrary nature of the complaints, I feel 'indulge' is the better word.
The question is - what is the REAL reason the company culture changed so drastically in devaluing its teachers?
What caused the shift in attitudes from supportive, to abusive and hostile?
As I said earlier, pandering to an unrepresentative sample of toxic complainers can only indulge the *extreme* minority at the expense of the majority (regular students become annoyed when being deprived of their favorite teachers).
So, I don't buy the 'business' angle.
Lastly, are there any ESL/Teaching companies out there who actually *VALUE* teachers while treating them with *DIGNITY* and *RESPECT*, rather than as a piece of toilet paper, fit only to be used and discarded?

Hi hi! I'm Jack. I've never had the luck of being in a relationship, but my heart is so full of love with nowhere to go. I want to meet someone I can stay up all night talking to about anything. Spending nights at home binge watching a new show or an old favorite. someone to yell at video games with me and cuddle up reading a book with.
I love books, movies, games and being outdoors. Right now I'm playing a lot of Final Fantasy 14, Warframe, Persona and Wizard101 (laugh all you want) and reading the Overlord light novels, its one of my favorite anime. I'm also teaching myself programming and game development and trying to write a novel. I really like cooking, but cant seem to choose recipes to save my life, mind helping me out?
Im 6'3", 6'4" on a good day, brown hair, hazel(?) eyes. I am looking for someone 22-27 ish. I don't mind where you live or really how you look. if we are meant for each other, distance eventually wont matter. I was offered a job at an international school. I have a couple of back up plans if it doesn’t work out (NALCAP or Peace Corps), but honestly I was really excited about this school.
However, after taking off my rose tinted glasses and signing the offer, I realized the role maybe isn’t as good as I thought it would be.
It’s in a nice area. It pays a very low wage. Livable, but there is no savings potential. Most of the students are not international students, so even though I’ll teach in English most students are ESL. There isn’t a school wide curriculum, and I’d probably have to develop my own curriculum. Also not a lot of resources. The school also has the contract state I am a “volunteer” so I will be working on a tourist visa. Obviously that’s the biggest red flag, but the school itself seems pretty reputable and nothing on ISR even mentions that as being an issue.
It’s worth noting that I am a young, single teacher, so I’m looking to teach internationally for the experience.
Do I go for it or go with one of my backup plans?

I personally have plenty of hobbies and interests and its easy for me to decide to pickup a skill. My husband however needs an injection of hobbies in his life. He's had a lot of stress and has not a lot of time these days. Its affecting his health now.
He used to be into theatre. Acting on stage and has produced. There's little time for that now though so I'm trying to come up with things to suggest to him. I've offered to teach him my hobbies. He does like some sports as well and plays soccer recreationally but again, little time on his hands.
He has a book club he's joined. And he and I do our own book club with just the two of us. We borrow from the library and read the same books then discuss them.
I want to get us into hiking. Nature is super calming and he loves being outdoors with the right company. I usually have to get him outdoors. For eg he'll only go to the beach if I'm coming.
Both of us love to cook for each other. So any elaborate recipes are welcome suggestions as well. I imagine he'll enjoy the challenge of it because we are often adventurous about cooking.
I also think I want to pick up some canvas and let him just paint for the therapeutics of it with no goal in mind. He does have some ink and nibs but he hasn't touched those in months. I draw, paint, do fiber arts etc and am getting into making patterns for garments. He sees me as the creative half of us. And I want him to leave that mentality behind. So any advice and suggestions are welcome.

The end goal that I envision and would love to achieve is just some basic, yet, intimate moments, that I believe both would enjoy, like:

• Making music playlists together for different occasions and moods.
• Having lazy days, where both stay in and do nothing all day, except eat snacks, or maybe order take out, watch shows/movies/anime etc. and just enjoy the time.
• Having game nights, with dim lights, slow, calm, not too loud music, maybe from a playlist that both made, playing board games, something like chess maybe or something we randomly bought at a store the other day, because we thought it looked interesting (and in actuality the board game ends up uninteresting and we just put it back in the box, on a shelf and never touch it again). Video games are also an option, sitting on the couch with two controllers, or whatever else both desire at that time.
• Cook together dishes we both like, or have cooking disasters. Decide to try out a new recipe that both never tried before, completely mess everything up, maybe burn it, maybe miss something, and just laugh about how dumb we are, leave it for next time and just order take out instead.
• Shopping together, for stuff we need and don't need. Occasionally purchasing something goofy or dumb, because in the moment it was funny or interesting. (Yes, like that board game, that's still on the shelf over there by the way, collecting dust).
• Maybe having a mutual collection of something, like figurines, magnets, or something nerdy. Stuff from shows, movies, anime, books, games etc.
• Teaching each other different things, supporting and motivating each other throughout everything.

There's more of course, but generally moments like these are the end goal. In short. the end goal is a romantic lifelong relationship.
About hobbies, I have a lot of hobbies and interests. My main hobbies would be working out, I'm a gym rat, I love working out. Gaming, I enjoy playing video games, board games, just games in general during my free time. Watching videos, streams, shows, movies, anime. I watch Youtube daily. a lot of different stuff. I enjoy watching true crime, like JCS, cam footage, documentaries and etc., games, reviews, news, memes and honestly, pretty much everything, mostly just go off of recommended or something I was waiting for. Besides videos, I mainly watch anime. I love all kinds. TV shows and movies not that much, due to either watching alone is not that interesting, or already watched everything I liked and no new parts, seasons, episodes came out yet. I enjoy listening to music, my taste is all over the place, genre doesn't really matter, I just have to like the song, I also like writing, started writing a story some time back and still in the process of combining all the elements, though it's a very slow process due to time and how much actually gets invested into that. And generally I am artsy, I enjoy imagining and creating. There are more interests, like learning languages for example, or drawing maybe, but they are something I do from time to time maybe, or during different moods, but these are mostly my main hobbies that I do day to day.
My main values are communication and effort. I believe anything can be achieved if both parties put the same amount of effort towards each other. That's how a true relationship will be built. In my eyes, communication is key to everything. I am a non-judgemental person, and always want and willing to talk everything through, so every opinion is heard, every view is understood and both parties are satisfied. Without clear and well communication, everything will just fall apart piece by piece, especially if the communication and effort is one sided.

Besides videos, I mainly watch anime. I love all kinds. TV shows and movies not that much, due to either watching alone is not that interesting, or already watched everything I liked and no new parts, seasons, episodes came out yet. I enjoy listening to music, my taste is all over the place, genre doesn't really matter, I just have to like the song, I also like writing, started writing a story some time back and still in the process of combining all the elements, though it's a very slow process due to time and how much actually gets invested into that. And generally I am artsy, I enjoy imagining and creating. There are more interests, like learning languages for example, or drawing maybe, but they are something I do from time to time maybe, or during different moods, but these are mostly my main hobbies that I do day to day.
My main values are communication and effort. I believe anything can be achieved if both parties put the same amount of effort towards each other. That's how a true relationship will be built. In my eyes, communication is key to everything. I am a non-judgemental person, and always want and willing to talk everything through, so every opinion is heard, every view is understood and both parties are satisfied. Without clear and well communication, everything will just fall apart piece by piece, especially if the communication and effort is one sided.

Basically I moved abroad to Spain directly after graduating with my bachelor’s in linguistics. It’s been four years since then and I’ve been teaching English to get by, and I also got my masters in Italian studies during this time. I am looking to move back to the US and am concerned about my professional opportunities. I do not want to become an ESL teacher and would like to generally leave teaching behind. Basically, and maybe it’s impossible, I want to peruse a career I don’t hate. I don’t want to dread going to work. I am not money hungry, and my spouse should have a relatively high salary working in the medical field, so I am fine with an average salary. I have looked into librarianship, which I could begin studying for before our move. What I like about it is that it’s an evolving profession and impacts the public. Any other ideas that wouldn’t require another master’s? Thanks in advance.

I could not cook for the life of me before I met my wife. Not that I was incompetent, just a very boring cook: grilled cheese, boiled dogs, ramen with maybe an egg or slice of cheese for excitement, bland oven baked chicken or pork chops that were never juicy.
Our first year of dating she painstakingly took her time in the kitchen to help me learn what spices suited each other, or what different chemical reactions go on with marinades or roasting and so on. I've since actually come to love cooking and experimenting and learning new recipes on my own. It helps I enjoy trying new stuff but I was afraid to do it without her encouragement and support.
We hosted a party, mostly family (maybe hers more than mine) and I cooked everything. I was so proud of myself, maybe stupidly, for handling a 20+ dinner party from invites to grocery shopping to cooking to handling set up and break down and all. I've helped with cooking and preparation with other parties over our four years but never soup to nuts.
My FIL thanked her for the meal. I can only attribute this to ego but I said "well, you can thank her for teaching me to cook". He kind of got red in the face, then said she did a great job teaching me, and that was that.
As I was cleaning up she asked me why I felt the need to brag by putting her down. I said that wasn't what I meant to do but she said that was what I did, regardless of intent. I apologized but it just wasn't enough. I also asked if this was something I did often, making her feel overlooked, but she said that a party with her family wasn't the place for me to start bragging.

You didn’t put her down though! You gave her proper credit for teaching you. She was the asshole for stealing credit. She should have corrected your FIL. I wonder if she’s envious or threatened by your newfound skills? NTA.

I doubt she's envious. She's a master in the kitchen, and she really excels with baking but her cooking is phenomenal.
People often compliment her for how well she cooked. In hindsight maybe she's also upset my food, which still is nowhere near hers in quality, was mistaken for hers?

I think I'm misusing the term but missing missing reasons comes to mind. She was stressed by work due to a sudden project that she wanted to be well rested for to tackle. A dinner party with plenty of people isn't going to help that. The party was planned before the project was dumped on her. She also apologized for her reaction and admitted it was out of line for her to say that, and reassured me that I did a great job, especially for my first party and for such a size. That night was out of character for her which is why I was concerned I screwed up.
She was frustrated by the conversation she was having with her aunt because she was hinting around for babies. She didn't hear her dad at first because she was focused elsewhere, then her mind caught up and she felt ashamed, like others were judging her for not being the one to cook (and according to what she's mentioned he probably instilled that in her), and she felt at the time like I was too quick to correct him. I tried to apologize for that but she said it was fine, she was just more sensitive because of her embarrassment.
I asked if there was anything specific I could change in how I show my appreciate that could help her feel fulfilled and validated: I verbally show my gratitude and clean up the kitchen after she cooks as a thank you, but she clearly isn't feeling appreciated and that means there needs to be a adjustment.
We're going to keep talking about how we both handle gratitude and appreciation for each other, to make sure we both feel fulfilled, and how I can support her best in the weeks upcoming because this project she had dropped on her is a big one that will mean a lot of extra hours for her.

I appreciate this update. Out of curiosity- what did she do for this event? I couldn’t tell from the last post.
I saw you shopped and cooked, but as someone who has hosted a lot personally and professionally I know there is a ton more that goes into it.
Who did the following? - cleaned the house for guests - coordinated invites/responses/sending info - set up the tables/decor - drinks (purchasing, set up, making) - hosting (greeting, serving, etc)

I cleaned the house and set up tables, coordinated invites and RSVPs, and went shopping for drinks and food. There weren't many mixed drinks, mostly water, soda, wine, or beer, so not much that needed more than a glass and the bottle opened.
We both greeted, just by nature of who had been closer to the door, but it was informal in how everyone came in. I put out the food, but that's typical. She mostly helped entertain by talking with the guests.

Hello! I’m thinking about moving to Houston from Virginia. I am only licensed in ESL, as that is an initial licensure option here. I have 1 year licensed teaching experience in Virginia.
I understand that ESL is only an add-on certification in Texas. With that being said, it seems to me that I will need to somehow get certified in something else (i.e., EC-4 or ELAR) first to teach ESL. Is that true? Do you think TEA will review my license and tell me that I need to take some tests? Will they tell me I need to go through a program to get certified? Should I even be expecting to be able to teach in the public schools for the 24-25 school year?
Since the review process will take over a month, I am feeling like I’ll have to move before knowing what TEA will say. I can do it financially since I’ll still be getting paid by my current district, but I need a job by August. If you think I don’t have a high likelihood of being able to teach next school year, do you have suggestions for any other community/youth/education work outside of public schools in Houston?
