L and I usually spend much time together because we work together and sometimes go to the gym or grab food after work. On weekends, we do other activities like beach or horse riding, and I had no issue with him joining us. However, after a few times when he joined us at the beach, where I met friends for football and paddle boarding, he started criticizing me and my driving skills and the routes I take. Soon after, he stopped coming with us, and L started acting weird. Eventually, I discovered he had called me a “hoe in an open relationship.” and claimed I did not respect my husband or myself because I was too friendly and attract men, which he thought would ruin his relationship with L.
This situation led to a heated discussion and a temporary break in our friendship. I needed to reconnect with myself, especially because she was always fighting with him whenever she was with me, making me feel like a burden. My birthday was approaching, and every year as a tradition, L and I have dinner together to celebrate before having a party with other friends. Two weeks before my birthday, I asked her to attend dinner on Friday or Saturday which my husband was to plan for us, she agreed. Two days later, she asked to confirm if it was happening and where. I said I would let her know once my husband confirmed the plans (this is very normal as i inform her always 1 day before). She kept asking the same question daily, which was unusual for her. To preface, I work in a Contact Center and submitting this workbook is part of the daily task of anyone who takes calls.
The sheet is not "breaking" - the users are pasting over cells that have formulas pre-written in them.
PROBLEM: I'm trying to ascertain the best way to go about preventing users from Pasting and Cutting in this workbook; Copying is fine but if that has to go too, I take no issue with that.
Most of the VBA I've come across prevents CTRL+V but I haven't encountered anything solid enough to prevent the ability to Copy/Cut/Paste in a workbook when done via mouse navigation, and many employees wouldn't use keyboard shortcuts (non-tech savvy).
I think I'm looking for a watcher macro that undoes the paste action when detected (whether by keyboard shortcut, or by clicking) but am unsure how to go about writing one, or where to find one.
I'm hoping a macro that prevents users from pasting, undoes the action while restoring the intergrity of the cells pasted over, while generating a Pop-Up message calling the user a moron and telling them not to do what they just did may prevent most of the instances where the sheet "breaks".
CAVEATS: There is already a macro that extracts a range and converts it to HTML, and then sends that range as an email to a specific set of inboxes that need the information.

2024.05.16 05:59 ModeratelyMeekMinded Just got offered a 72k a year position on a platter as a 21F… So what’s ‘the catch’?
I (21F) decided to drop out of university a couple of months ago after my third attempt at a degree. Bluntly, I just don’t think the way it works is for me. I’m ADHD/ASD Level 1 and, partially as a result of that, I’m an extremely literal person and I learn through examples of a concept or way of thinking in practice. I had to spend hours and hours of my time a week seeking out examples of every single topic I learnt in a class (say, I was in a class about political theory when I was trying out political science and they mentioned historical relativism, I then had to spend hours searching for examples of historical relativism to understand it). I also struggle a lot with hyper focus and there’d be days where I’d just read without food or even more than one or two bathroom breaks from 8am in the morning to 8pm at night. As you can imagine, I got super burnt out and I’d crash and burn and end up majorly depressed within a year, but then a few months later I’d convince myself that it was just because I didn’t like the material and try again. Thankfully, I finally picked up on the cycle and I walked away for good. Maybe I’ll try again in my mid or late 20s, but, right now, I’m done.
I still live with my parents and, when I told them I dropped out of uni full-stop, they just said: “It’s absolutely fine that you’re not in uni for now, but you need to get a full-time job ASAP if you want to continue living here” and I jumped right on it. My dad works in hospital administration and his manager told him to tell me to send my resume to HR there and they’ll maybe hook me up with something. Within a week, I got an interview with one department that I thought went solidly despite my utter lack of experience in hospitals or even in administration (my only work experience before has been nannying and working in OSHC/tutoring centres casually). The department head called me about a week later saying I wasn’t successful for that particular position but they really liked “my personality” and all my references were great and they were passing my resume onto other department heads.
A couple of weeks later, I got a call from an administration manager that oversaw the hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit and she wanted me to come in and “meet everyone”. I thought this just was code for another interview so I got super prepped and came in ready to be grilled. As it turns out, the manager just met me in the building that all the heads and managers work out of it and took me to the unit. I met the head nurse and her and the manager just sat me down and told me all about the unit, warned me about some of the challenges (ward accepts children and seeing brain-damaged children come who have to stay there on their own for an extended period doing rehab with little understanding of what’s going on is, of course, distressing + majority of patients in the ward are young men who sometimes get argumentative and aggressive), assured me that I’d do several weeks worth of training so that I’d feel adequately prepared, allowed me to ask questions and gave me a tour of the entire unit afterwards. In the end, the head nurse said: “Looking forward to seeing on the 27th!” as she said goodbye. I was totally flabbergasted because it wasn’t even an interview - just a good, informative chat.
The admin manager told me as she was seeing me off that I didn’t have to accept the position if I didn’t want it, but I “have the job” and to please let her know within a couple of days what I decided. I have my reservations about how I’ll handle it (I’ve worked with disabled children in tutoring/OSHC but this is a lot different) but I really want to give it a try + I kind of need a job so I called her the next day saying I’d love to take up the position. I’m still kind of in shock. As I said in the title, I basically got offered this job on a silver platter and I’m in absolute disbelief about how this has all happened and how I just suddenly got a job on a random Tuesday. Like wtf?
I got sent some paperwork yesterday about the job and the minimum pay is $2820 a fortnight which is utterly INSANE. No, I’m not going to be rich, but, as someone who’s always worked casually around school and never earned over $700 a fortnight, I still can’t fathom that amount of money. Even after I take out tax, mandatory HECS (student loan system in Australia) repayments and the amount of rent my parents are charging, I’m still pocketing $1800 a fortnight. I can’t even believe it. I didn’t think it was possible for 21-year-olds without a degree to earn that much. I don’t even want to tell anyone around me because I’m afraid it’s some mistake.
I won’t lie. There are some cons. The job is from 7:30 to 3:30 M-F and, because of how far I live from the hospital and the fact that I can’t drive for medical reasons, I’ll have to get up before 5:30 in the morning. The admin manager also mentioned to me that the unit doesn’t really ‘do’ overtime and if I clock out after my scheduled finish time, a record of that time is kept and I can eventually apply for an extra leave day with it. Furthermore, as I mentioned above, there’s elements of the job I have mixed feelings about. I have a lot of trouble comforting people, so if a distressed patient or family member approaches me (which, in a brain injury unit, is probably going to be common), I’m not really sure what else to say other than: “Oh… Oh.. I’m sure there has to be at least some level of transparency and professionalism because it’s a public hospital and it’s fully accountable to the government (the Australian health system is reassuring sometimes!), but there’s nothing strictly stopping them from straight up lying about what I’m in for when I start this job.
I really want an objective perspective on this because everyone I’ve personally tried talking about this to has brushed me off and said they’re sure I’ll be great… But I don’t ask if they think I’ll be great, I’m asking if they think this job is straight up too good to be true and they’re just dancing around the question. I still live with my parents and, when I told them I dropped out of uni full-stop, they just said: “It’s absolutely fine that you’re not in uni for now, but you need to get a full-time job ASAP if you want to continue living here” and I jumped right on it. My dad works in hospital administration and his manager told him to tell me to send my resume to HR there and they’ll maybe hook me up with something. Within a week, I got an interview with one department that I thought went solidly despite my utter lack of experience in hospitals or even in administration (my only work experience before has been nannying and working in OSHC/tutoring centres casually). The department head called me about a week later saying I wasn’t successful for that particular position but they really liked “my personality” and all my references were great and they were passing my resume onto other department heads.
A couple of weeks later, I got a call from an administration manager that oversaw the hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit and she wanted me to come in and “meet everyone”. I thought this just was code for another interview so I got super prepped and came in ready to be grilled. As it turns out, the manager just met me in the building that all the heads and managers work out of it and took me to the unit. I met the head nurse and her and the manager just sat me down and told me all about the unit, warned me about some of the challenges (ward accepts children and seeing brain-damaged children come who have to stay there on their own for an extended period doing rehab with little understanding of what’s going on is, of course, distressing + majority of patients in the ward are young men who sometimes get argumentative and aggressive), assured me that I’d do several weeks worth of training so that I’d feel adequately prepared, allowed me to ask questions and gave me a tour of the entire unit afterwards. In the end, the head nurse said: “Looking forward to seeing on the 27th!” as she said goodbye. I was totally flabbergasted because it wasn’t even an interview - just a good, informative chat.
The admin manager told me as she was seeing me off that I didn’t have to accept the position if I didn’t want it, but I “have the job” and to please let her know within a couple of days what I decided. I have my reservations about how I’ll handle it (I’ve worked with disabled children in tutoring/OSHC but this is a lot different) but I really want to give it a try + I kind of need a job so I called her the next day saying I’d love to take up the position. I’m still kind of in shock. As I said in the title, I basically got offered this job on a silver platter and I’m in absolute disbelief about how this has all happened and how I just suddenly got a job on a random Tuesday. Like wtf?
I got sent some paperwork yesterday about the job and the minimum pay is $2820 a fortnight which is utterly INSANE. No, I’m not going to be rich, but, as someone who’s always worked casually around school and never earned over $700 a fortnight, I still can’t fathom that amount of money. Even after I take out tax, mandatory HECS (student loan system in Australia) repayments and the amount of rent my parents are charging, I’m still pocketing $1800 a fortnight. I can’t even believe it. I didn’t think it was possible for 21-year-olds without a degree to earn that much. I don’t even want to tell anyone around me because I’m afraid it’s some mistake.
I won’t lie. There are some cons. The job is from 7:30 to 3:30 M-F and, because of how far I live from the hospital and the fact that I can’t drive for medical reasons, I’ll have to get up before 5:30 in the morning. Basically, this person (who came from out of town) approached my friend and I wanting to hang out and go drink in the same plaza. We soon become friends and he was pretty cool.
However, as time passed (About 1 and a half years of hanging out), I noticed a slew of strange events that seem like an odd set up was happening. I couldn't place my finger on it at the time but here is how it went.
- He started to face time me with friends that I knew a long time ago. He was counties away, it's strange he suddenly became very close with some people I know. His targets were people I associate with on there from time to time but not my close circle who would have informed me right away. Yet every time he called me out to a bar, he'd bring someone from my facebook. Instead of these people I know being friendly, they often somehow get angry with me.
- He brought strangers that also seemed pissed off at me. They would have pissed off face and talk extra loudly when I talk to them. Yet made it friendly with other people I am with.
- He has a wife and began telling her that he'd hang out with a buddy all night and often use my name to cover up his shenanigans whatever he was doing. His wife began calling me getting mad that we'd hang out late and I'd just say sorry don't know what she is talking about. There was a bit of a language barrier with his wife, but I guess she thinks I was just with him.
- He used a picture of me to try and get online escorts because he was afraid, they might had been undercover police. (I found out because at the time I was getting prank/spam phone calls day and night I called up this other friend saying I was angry at that but before he knew the reason, he thought it was the escort thing)
- Low jabs on what he should not know about. Say for example I was working a trade job with a vary of hourly wage. He'd guess that hourly wage. Make fun of me for doing a chore he shouldn't know I did at the house.
- I finally decide to cut him off once and for all after he called me to hang out and kept on cutting me off when the waitress asks me a question. Then he called another guy in who took the pack of cigs that he bought for me to smoke. I believe he was trying to set up a fight.

Wall Street was caught flat-footed. Hedge funds like Melvin Capital were obliterated. But institutional investors learned from the 2021 episode and are better prepared now, argues Vanda. "Quant/hedge funds are much better equipped to handle these situations nowadays," Vanda senior vice president Marco Iachini noted. I’ve been unemployed for about 6 months now, and it’s causing me so much financial and mental distress. I’ve been applying everywhere for every position that I’m qualified for, but nobody wants to hire me.
My opportunities are also limited due to not having reliable transportation. I haven’t been able to save money for a car, since my income has never been sufficient or stable enough.
I have about 5 years of experience on my resume, but my work history is very unimpressive. I’ve never held an important position, I have large gaps in employment, and the longest I’ve ever been at a job is just a little over a year.

My opportunities are also limited due to not having reliable transportation. I haven’t been able to save money for a car, since my income has never been sufficient or stable enough.
I have about 5 years of experience on my resume, but my work history is very unimpressive. I’ve never held an important position, I have large gaps in employment, and the longest I’ve ever been at a job is just a little over a year.

As much as the older folks are 'behind the times', you need to remember who is still disproportionately in charge of companies and how they are structured, even in the tech sector. Hell, I had my dad (the BOOMIEST BOOMER I know) help me out.I went to my 7th job fair after graduation about 2-3 months ago (Feb 2024) and my dad came with me as moral support. Just as usual with most job fairs, there isn't anyone there actively recruiting for engineering / IT / software roles because of the current market. BUT, my dad was having a 'fun' chat with the CTO of a random medium sized company and they both hit it off HARD. Both of them were born in the same part of India, went to the same temples there, and they just kept on chatting. Next thing I know, this same CTO came to me and asked if I was competent at engineering and he'd like to interview me on the spot, but sadly his company had no open software roles. I agreed.
I shit you not, this test was this simple and BLEW it:
- What is Ohms law? (I got this right)
- What is an inverter? (I got this wrong)
- What is a diode? What is it's symbol? (I got this right)
- Explain what an LED is and what it's symbol is. (I got this half right)
- What is the purpose of a rectifier? (I got this wrong)
- Questions about embedded C/C++ (I don't even know the language well T.T)
1 week later
I met the R&D guy. Something I noticed is that this whole department was filled with dinosaurs. Not a single human within a 1 km radius appeared below the age of 50 outside of the technicians / trades folk. These dinos didn't even know how to post a job online without the help of HR (I'm sure everyone here knows how HR writes posts and filters applications). Just after half an hour of talking and the R&D manager apparently loved me because "this kid knows jack shit but he's a sponge, he'll learn faster than anyone else we got", which is apparently what R&D is actively looking for in fresh recruits.
Then bam-bam-boom, I got my position starting at this pay, with a guaranteed pay boost after onboarding + training is finished in 6 months, while I bombed every interview question / test. My position is as an R&D Engineer specializing in Embedded Design / Programming. Hell, one of my first projects is to tinker around and try to create and integrate a custom trained AI model with Altium to see if the autopathing system and autolayouts can be made better and human centric if possible.
I looked into this company's history and they have an average employee tenure of 10+ years without a single person ever being laid off ever since 1985. People wouldn't actively stay at a company that long without job hopping if the pay wasn't satisfactory or if it was toxic. Plus it was written into my contract that base pay is tied to inflation!
What are the lessons here?
- Don't quit. It's a shitty market, but a 0.01% chance is INFINITELY better than 0% if you stop trying.
- Have a boomer / gen x person help you network and connect you with other boomer / gen x people. Boomers and Gen X folks hire more based on word of mouth and interactions than younger folk like me who focus on the 'skills' part of the resume.
- Become a sponge. The more absorbent you are and the more questions you ask, the more the senior engineers will love you and actively want you on their team.
- Target industries that are filled with older folks in white collar positions (assuming you want white collar positions). Here are some examples:
- Metallurgy (filled with trades people and old engineers, they are actively looking for fresh blood in white collar areas).
- Agriculture (mechanization).
- Carpentry (same as metallurgy above).
- Welding companies (they have active R&D for building welding machines, just like metallurgy and carpentry sectors).
- Learn, learn, and learn. Especially for the first job you get, especially so if you don't have internships / co-op experience, people will look for your ability to learn. How fast can you learn everything we teach you?
- HR seldom knows what the company wants / needs when they post job listings. Getting out there and talking to NOT the recruiters but the engineers will give you that edge. Bonus points if you also do bullet point 2.
- Be ambitious with your future goals. Not just pretend; you'll run out of steam. If you are ambitious despite your current situation, people will see it and engineers / senior developers will like it. That was also one of the things a senior there liked about me and explicitly said "you're ambitions behind closed doors, I love it, you'll go far and I hope you take the company there with you; more profits for all of us!".
- Nepotism isn't the right word for how many here think of the job situation, it's just much MUCH more networking than previously thought. This has it's own issues like for those from disadvantaged / foreign backgrounds, but this world isn't fair, and that won't change reality.

Tldr - 12 yr old, active dog had leg surgery requiring bed rest for 14 days, and she's very bored. How to help her cope? We've got ice, treats, and trying to think of games that don't involve her standing.
Full story: My dog is 12 years 2 months old, 83 lbs, boxer mix, short hair. She's always been high energy and active. As recently as last week we were walking 30-45 minutes at least once a day and she has no problem with stamina.
For several months she's had a lipoma growing in a rear leg. The vet and I have been watching it, and it has been causing her to limp and bunny hop up steps so we decided it should be removed. Her blood work was all very good. She has no other health problems.
Surgery was 2 days ago. The incision is on the trailing edge of the haunch/thigh. We cleaned her crate and moved it to the first floor of our house (it's normally on a second floor, she's crate trained and sleeps there of her own volition sometimes but she usually prefers the living room couch). It's in a cozy spot she likes.
The vet's recovery instructions are: Do not encourage play for 14 days. Slow leash walks only to toilet for 14 days. Then stretch walks by 5 minutes every 3 days till walks are 20 minutes long. Then resume normal activity.
Part of why this is so restrictive is the vet didn't put drains in - they had planned to beforehand but didn't feel comfortable during the procedure because of where the arteries were relative to the incision. The restrictive rest is in hope of reducing irritation and swelling there and needing to bring her back to the office to drain fluid.
At discharge the nurse suggested she be mostly in her crate for the first 14 days. We were given gabapentin and carprofen.
This worked for the first 36 hours, but even on the gabapentin she is obviously bored and wants out of the crate. We are going to the back yard briefly a few times a day (on leash, no play, just to toilet), I'm sitting beside her in the crate with door open, petting and giving treats for simple commands like laying her head down and shaking, I'm feeding her food and water, but with work and kids my time to spend with her is limited. We are keeping a bowl of ice in the crate too, she seems to like this. Also, peanut butter kongs.
2 big questions:
What else could we try as far as activity/entertainment? Her normal happy place/outlet is a long walk. We have a couple food puzzles, and I plan to try them however she's never been much of a fan of them before.
How can we judge her recovery, as far as when she should be allowed more freedom? For example, after 4 days can she sit with us on the couch instead of in her crate? What about laying down outside? Etc?

I (20F) have been dating my bf (24M) for about 7 months now. I’ve been home from college for the summer for 4 days. Since I’ve been back both of my parents keep making comments that are extremely annoying. I was on a walk with my dad and he was saying that I’m wasting the younger years I have dating him and he’s distracting me. That I’m young and shouldn’t worry about dating right now. My mom makes rude comments that imply i’m mean to my bf when i’m not at all. She’ll say “i bet you start most of the fights between you two” for example.
They also have it in their heads that my bf is the only person I ever spend time with. My mom will say that I turned into one of the girls who only spend time with their boyfriends. My college roommate recently got a studio apartment and my parents said “I bet the reason she got her own place was because you’re never around”. The things they’re saying are ridiculous and I’ve stopped bringing up my bf to them to avoid things like this.
I have never been a very social person and I socialize with my friends a very normal amount. I do spend a lot of time with my bf but it doesn’t take anyway from any other aspect of my life. I still get good grades, I managed to get a good job that’ll look great on my resume. I’m not sure why or where my parents got the idea that I’m with my boyfriend all the time.
My boyfriend and I get along really well and I do enjoy spending time with him often. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, I get all my responsibilities done and make time for my friends. This is not a normal way of living. We live on a compound with him and all of his 3 other brothers, his brothers have wives, the grandparents live here too and uncle. They all have homes on the compound. They are Hispanic so he claims this is normal but It’s not like loving functional family. Everyone just does their own thing. No one really sees each other that much, or has close relationships. His mom is highly opinionated and will make comments about how me or the other girls dress on the property. His mom fear mongers everybody saying that moving off the property isn’t safe. as if it’s something evil to do. My husband is 35. He still has never once moved off the property. He lives in a casita in the back of the compound which now I have moved into .
I am Al most Afraid that all this fear mongering will not allow us to move off ever, which was a nonnegotiable for me in this marriage and relationship… She called me two days ago as I fly into Vegas to work from California from time to time telling me that she is praying against me and doesn’t want me going to Vegas anymore although I’m just cocktail waitressing, which is no different than working at a restaurant where I’m living in but in Las Vegas. I knew it would be hard to get him to want to move off but he did agree but ever since she’s called and said that she prays I don’t go to vegas (I have bills to pay so any hiccup hurts to help my overhead which put a financial rent in my relationship because you know finances, stressed out relationships, but it’s messing with my relationship because I can’t seem to get to Vegas) weird things are happening to me and my flights keep having to get canceled and I can’t seem to make it to Vegas and it just seems like ever since I actually moved onto the property as series of unfortunate events have been happening to me from being extremely sick, to losing a child early , to just getting injured.
She claims to be Christian and I know the Bible says two become one when they get married. It also says that the husband is supposed to move away from the family which I think that they think being in a different roof is moving away, but I think she has this entire property gridlocked and has probably been praying on certain things or has things she’s prayed on/over from every ounce of this 5 acres and I just feel like now that my flesh became one with him, The witchcraft is coming on to me Yes Because she openly told me she’s going against my free will and things that I want in my life she doesn’t see that she’s praying against it which to me is witchcraft… The enemy always has to tell you what they’re doing and she sure did but it’s to the point where I almost wanna get an annulment since we haven’t been married that long. The recipe is a basic Black Manhattan but with Black Walnut Bitters in place of orange and a splash of Heering added.
2oz bourbon (I usually use something at or close to 100 proof) 3/4 oz Averna 1/4 oz Heering Dash Angostura Dash Black Walnut Bitters
I skip the traditional cherry garnish because of the Heering, but if I'm serving to others I'll add one. You can skip the Heering and it won't make or break it, but I'm a fan of the slight extra sweetness and cherry note it adds.
I've tried a ton of different bitters in these, but it's the black walnut that really makes this pop off. It's become my cocktail of choice and I batch it regularly.
Names I've considered play off the "black" part of the name and taking it a step further from not only the black walnut but also the black cherry Heering. Not super clever but it's mostly all I've been able to come up with.
Suggestions would be awesome.

Does adding feedback/testimonials to my profile make me a more attractive candidate? I am super proud of the work I've done over the years, but I feel like my resume and my LinkedIn profile is sterile. I have my experience and accomplishments on there, but it still feels hollow. There are a lot of less competent folks going for these positions (I know, because I've worked alongside them) and I feel like my feedback makes me pop as someone who has really walked the walk.

- “Code” by Charles Petzold. This is an incredible book that walks you through how a computer works from the very basics through solving problems with light switches to advanced computer architecture and software. I wasn’t a beginner when I read this, but it strongly reinforced my skills in the area.
- “A Student’s Guide to Maxwell’s Equations” by Daniel Fleisch. This is a short book that carefully walks through electromagnetic fields by explaining core equations step by step with lots of examples. This is an incredible book that walks you through how a computer works from the very basics through solving problems with light switches to advanced computer architecture and software. I wasn’t a beginner when I read this, but it strongly reinforced my skills in the area.

People called underwalkers or just Walkers undergo training to see ghosts and to see down into the Way, and even to send their souls out of their bodies into the Way (which is considered risky). Walkers gain power by making pacts with ghosts, in which the ghost does something for the Walker in exchange for blood sacrifice (whether taken from the Walker or from another source, willingly or not).
Once a Walker and a ghost make a pact, a pact seal appears on the Walker’s body: a bleeding wound that heals into a tattoo-like geometric pattern, and literally bleeds out of the Walker’s skin if the pact is ended or violated. Each pact has a unique pattern for its seal; the markings are believed to be a visual representation of the ghost’s soul. If a Walker is covered with many different patterns, they are considered very powerful and skilled.
MECHANICS
When a Walker is sworn to a ghost, they use formulaic, prayer-like spells called axioms to draw on the ghost’s power. Axioms can be verbally recited or written down. The basic structure of an axiom is:

This ability can also be used to treat and heal the wounds of other people.
Apparition Summoning: Walkers can raise one or more ghosts from the Underway as incorporeal apparitions.
Resurrection: This ability relies on the sacrifice of another human being to work. The resurrected person (known as a Body) will not age, feel pain or temperature, nor need to eat, drink, or sleep. They will also not decay while resurrected, but if they are killed again, they will resume decomposing from wherever they left off. Walkers can’t sacrifice a Body to resurrect someone; it has to be a truly living person.

I'm really struggling with my website FAQ and could use some guidance. Up until yesterday, I thought that semi-formal attire was slightly less dressy than formal but above cocktail attire. I just learned that it's actually more casual than cocktail so now I don't know how to describe my dress code. My fiance and I basically just want either suits or button down shirts with a tie and more formal looking knee-midi length dresses, no jeans. I was thinking of describing it as "elevated cocktail" but idk if that sounds too pretentious. Any ideas for how to describe it on our FAQ? I'm thinking of something like "We'd love to see our family and friends get dressed up for our big day! We suggest suits, knee or midi length cocktail dresses, formal jumpsuits, or dressy separates."
Also a disclaimer: I know some people think that it's rude to put a dress code with examples but I've always found it helpful as a wedding guest so I want to include it.

I am a dental hygienist. Since I have been licensed, I have worked for 4 different dental offices. While the dental offices and locations have changed, the job duties are almost exactly the same at each job (maybe the number of patients I will see has changed; for example, 6 at one office, 8 at another). IMO, my resume looks weird because I am basically repeating the same job duties in 4 different paragraphs - for example:

Vek's assistant, a young Dreth named Pylor, approached. "Councillor, our sensors have detected an unusual energy signature coming from that landmass." He pointed to a region on the planet's map.
Vek peered down at the indicated area. "Life signs?"
"Massive. Billions within that small area alone. And..." Pylor double checked the readings. "Their technology...it's exceeding all models for their stage of development."
Intrigued, Vek ordered the Balexa into a lower orbit to investigate directly. Below, sprawling cities dominated the landscape, towers of metal and glass thrusting towards the heavens. Ground vehicles filled roadways in great herds.
But it was what Vek saw in the skies that made her gasp. Dozens of giant space ships above the planet.
Vek urged the Balexa closer, honing in on the largest vessel. Over a kilometer long, it resembled an arrowhead piercing the clouds. Guiding it through flight tests, no doubt. But its capabilities went far beyond simple transport.
Her eyes analyzed the gleaming hull. Powerful weapons arrays, ultra-dense alloys, inertial dampeners—this was no mere explorer ship. It bore the armaments of a capital warship, yet wielded in the skies of a supposedly primitive world, according to 1000 year old reports.
"Scan it," Vek ordered. The results shocked even her aged sensibilities. Particle beam projectors, gravitic torque generators, ablative shield matrix far exceeding, any known galaxy-class defenses. She watched silent as the warship shrugged off simulated meteor bombardments, and energy lances that would have crippled a flagship.
"Are the sensors malfunctioning?" Pylor asked. "This...this shouldn't be possible."
Vek didn't respond, lost in thought. The colonization directive had brought her here expecting a standard uplifting, not...this. A new species on the cusp of space, yes, but with a military capability challenging the Grand Fleet itself. Her duties were clear, yet prudence demanded further observation before revealing her presence.

Its armored prow glinted cruel in the light of its world. No other word could apply but "leviathan."
She watched speechless as it performed basic maneuvers. Its motion sent ripples through the atmosphere itself, as entire mountain ranges would shake. Multispectral scans revealed engineering beyond rational thought, a work of art and horror, given form in girders and armour-plates. No known drive system could shift its bulk, yet it drifted with ethereal grace.
Vek collapsed into her command throne, as the giant ship vanished into the mottled sky. Only one thought echoed through her stunned mind.
This changes everything.
Councillor Vek's findings on the human home world of Earth, had rocked the Galactic Council to its core. A species possessing technological marvels far beyond their years of spaceflight, should not exist, yet Vek's evidence proved otherwise. As the leaders convened an emergency session, their debate centered around how to handle this unprecedented development.
"Negotiations must be made at once, to assess if these 'humans' pose a threat," stated Morax of the Androrian Conglomerate. "We cannot allow such advanced militaries to emerge unchecked in the galaxy."
Vek spoke up. "I caution haste. The humans integrate their technologies peacefully on Earth, and welcomed our observations from orbit. Forceful intervention risks destroying what could be a powerful new ally."
Others argued humanity should be contained for study and surveillance, to learn their intentions. Tempers flared until Councillor Porx silenced the chamber. "Further debate is pointless without understanding these beings. Vek, with your ship the Balexa being closest, you are tasked with open contact and assessment of the human condition."
Reluctantly agreeing, Vek set course for Earth with escort vessels. As the Balexa entered atmo, she watched the armada of human vessels fill the skies once more. Her mind raced with what to make of such a belligerent yet benign species. Perhaps hospitality ruled here while militarism emerged elsewhere, as with so many spacefaring civilizations.
The Balexa landed in an open field outside a sprawling metropolis. Vek and her delegation exited warily, the high oxygen air thick in their respiratory systems. Above, jet aircraft flew patrol routes. while curious onlookers documented the arrival on personal communicators.
Approaching vehicles emerged, this time carrying humans who exited with open hands. "Greetings, I'm Commander Jasmine Chen of the United Earth Space Command," said the apparent leader. "We welcome peaceful contact and welcome you to our world."
Her relaxed yet watchful presence put Vek at ease. "I am Councillor Vek of the Galactic Council. We come in friendship to learn of your people and capabilities."
Chen nodded. "Please, come with me and we’ll discuss how we might cooperate for mutual benefit.” She guided them into waiting transport vehicles towards a towering citadel. Along the route, Vek glimpsed, colossal fusion reactors, automated infrastructure, and most astonishing, families and children walking without fear amongst such technological wonders.
Arriving at the United Earth Space Command headquarters, Vek received a cultural download on human history. Only an eyeblink ago, they waged wars from the back of beasts and shattered each other with primitive explosives. Now they spanned the Solar System and bent physics to their will, yet retained community and empathy in their evolution.
Chen brought them to a viewing platform high above the city. "This is what 350 years of focused progress has achieved. Our advance began, when we discovered alien wrecks on the Moon containing lost knowledge. From there, our science boomed while social reforms fostered cooperation."
Vek struggled to process such rapid development. "And your military capabilities? Ones matching capital fleets already?"
Chen smiled knowingly. "A necessity of our past, yet now a guarantor of peace. We keep stride to ensure safe expansion, not conquest. See, all technologies serve life's betterment."
Her wise words allayed Vek's fears of some belligerent power. Indeed, humans bore responsibility for such marvels rather than recklessness. She thanked Chen, believing a new partnership had begun that could uplift the galaxy.

Gasps filled the room. Estron, a core Council world renowned for compassion, laid defenseless against the ravaging warships. But how had the Anti Council faction pushed this deep so quickly?
Vek turned to the hologlobe, coordinating response forces to intervene quickly. But she knew conventional fleets, couldn't match the invader's new annihilating momentum. Unless...
An idea formed, She opened a channel to Commander Chen, as other leaders objected in shock. "Humanity proving themselves is unwarranted. We cannot condone--"
But Vek sensed Chen had come to the same conclusion. "Councillor, send us all you have on this threat. Our ships stand ready to aid in whatever way is needed."
The Council fell silent at her resolve. Vek transmitted Battle Assessment 716-C and tracked the human warship streaking into hyperdrive, escorted by two escort cruisers. She prayed this unprecedented response would succeed where fleets had failed.
As the human task force arrived at Estron, they beheld utter ruin. Planetoids bombarded into dust, settlements glassed from space. The last distress calls wept through static, as heat shimmered off molten continents.
Captain Sato of the Yamato grimaced at the carnage. "This ends today. Shields to maximum, charge main cannons. Helm take us in."
The faction armada appeared like demons bursting from an inferno, dozens of war beasts thirsting for more conquest. But they weren't prepared for the grey giant, punching through their formation's heart.
Blue lances of plasma speared the leading ship, overloading its shielding and armor in a microsecond. The massive ship erupted in a brilliant fireball that consumed several nearby fighter craft. Meanwhile, precision volleys from the Yamato's mass drivers sheared through the battlecruiser amidships. Secondary explosions ripped the cruiser to pieces, as it drifted lifeless.
The humans coordinated their attacks with flawless synchronization. Squads of escort gunships strafed and bombarded the swarm ships, attempting to flank the capital ships. Their advanced targeting systems, allowed multiple targets to be engaged simultaneously. Within minutes, over a dozen enemy vessels had been eliminated with surgical strikes.
The surviving faction forces regrouped and organized a desperate counterattack. A dozen assault frigates charged headlong at the Yamato, unleashing everything in their arsenals. Shields flared as energy lanced and missiles impacted across the human warship. But its shields held easily, dissipating each strike with efficiency.
Resuming its offensive, the Yamato activated its main cannons once more. Two gigawatt particle beams lashed out, melting through the foremost frigates in a pair of massive explosions. A species possessing technological marvels far beyond their years of spaceflight, should not exist, yet Vek's evidence proved otherwise. As the leaders convened an emergency session, their debate centered around how to handle this unprecedented development.
"Negotiations must be made at once, to assess if these 'humans' pose a threat," stated Morax of the Androrian Conglomerate. "We cannot allow such advanced militaries to emerge unchecked in the galaxy."
Vek spoke up. "I caution haste. The humans integrate their technologies peacefully on Earth, and welcomed our observations from orbit. Forceful intervention risks destroying what could be a powerful new ally."
Others argued humanity should be contained for study and surveillance, to learn their intentions. Tempers flared until Councillor Porx silenced the chamber. "Further debate is pointless without understanding these beings. Vek, with your ship the Balexa being closest, you are tasked with open contact and assessment of the human condition."
Reluctantly agreeing, Vek set course for Earth with escort vessels. As the Balexa entered atmo, she watched the armada of human vessels fill the skies once more. Her mind raced with what to make of such a belligerent yet benign species. Perhaps hospitality ruled here while militarism emerged elsewhere, as with so many spacefaring civilizations.
The Balexa landed in an open field outside a sprawling metropolis. Vek and her delegation exited warily, the high oxygen air thick in their respiratory systems. Above, jet aircraft flew patrol routes. while curious onlookers documented the arrival on personal communicators.
Approaching vehicles emerged, this time carrying humans who exited with open hands. "Greetings, I'm Commander Jasmine Chen of the United Earth Space Command," said the apparent leader. "We welcome peaceful contact and welcome you to our world."
Her relaxed yet watchful presence put Vek at ease. "I am Councillor Vek of the Galactic Council. We come in friendship to learn of your people and capabilities."
Chen nodded. "Please, come with me and we’ll discuss how we might cooperate for mutual benefit.” She guided them into waiting transport vehicles towards a towering citadel. Along the route, Vek glimpsed, colossal fusion reactors, automated infrastructure, and most astonishing, families and children walking without fear amongst such technological wonders.
Arriving at the United Earth Space Command headquarters, Vek received a cultural download on human history. Only an eyeblink ago, they waged wars from the back of beasts and shattered each other with primitive explosives. Now they spanned the Solar System and bent physics to their will, yet retained community and empathy in their evolution.
Chen brought them to a viewing platform high above the city. "This is what 350 years of focused progress has achieved. Our advance began, when we discovered alien wrecks on the Moon containing lost knowledge. From there, our science boomed while social reforms fostered cooperation."
Vek struggled to process such rapid development. "And your military capabilities? Ones matching capital fleets already?"
Chen smiled knowingly. "A necessity of our past, yet now a guarantor of peace. We keep stride to ensure safe expansion, not conquest. See, all technologies serve life's betterment."
Her wise words allayed Vek's fears of some belligerent power. Indeed, humans bore responsibility for such marvels rather than recklessness. She thanked Chen, believing a new partnership had begun that could uplift the galaxy.
As the Balexa departed that day, Vek pondered all she now understood of humanity. A species arisen from war to wisdom, empowerment and care for others. Their defense of all requiring defense through strength guided safely by conscience. Truly an example to follow into a brighter future, if accepted.
But ominous clouds gathered where none before have been...
The Council chambers fell silent as reports of the Balexa's findings spread across the Galactic network. Councillor Vek recounted humanity's technological feats and philosophical underpinnings in great detail. While unsettled by Earth's military prowess, the consensus agreed their intentions seemed benevolent.
As debate resumed, an aide burst in with urgency. "Attack fleets have engaged at the Estron outposts. Casualty estimates are catastrophic."
Gasps filled the room. Estron, a core Council world renowned for compassion, laid defenseless against the ravaging warships. But how had the Anti Council faction pushed this deep so quickly?
Vek turned to the hologlobe, coordinating response forces to intervene quickly. But she knew conventional fleets, couldn't match the invader's new annihilating momentum. Unless...
An idea formed, She opened a channel to Commander Chen, as other leaders objected in shock. "Humanity proving themselves is unwarranted. We cannot condone--"
But Vek sensed Chen had come to the same conclusion. "Councillor, send us all you have on this threat. Our ships stand ready to aid in whatever way is needed."
The Council fell silent at her resolve. Vek transmitted Battle Assessment 716-C and tracked the human warship streaking into hyperdrive, escorted by two escort cruisers. She prayed this unprecedented response would succeed where fleets had failed.
As the human task force arrived at Estron, they beheld utter ruin. Planetoids bombarded into dust, settlements glassed from space. The last distress calls wept through static, as heat shimmered off molten continents.
Captain Sato of the Yamato grimaced at the carnage. "This ends today. Shields to maximum, charge main cannons. Helm take us in."
The faction armada appeared like demons bursting from an inferno, dozens of war beasts thirsting for more conquest. But they weren't prepared for the grey giant, punching through their formation's heart.
Blue lances of plasma speared the leading ship, overloading its shielding and armor in a microsecond. The massive ship erupted in a brilliant fireball that consumed several nearby fighter craft. Meanwhile, precision volleys from the Yamato's mass drivers sheared through the battlecruiser amidships. Secondary explosions ripped the cruiser to pieces, as it drifted lifeless.
The humans coordinated their attacks with flawless synchronization. Squads of escort gunships strafed and bombarded the swarm ships, attempting to flank the capital ships. Their advanced targeting systems, allowed multiple targets to be engaged simultaneously. Within minutes, over a dozen enemy vessels had been eliminated with surgical strikes.
The surviving faction forces regrouped and organized a desperate counterattack. A dozen assault frigates charged headlong at the Yamato, unleashing everything in their arsenals. Shields flared as energy lanced and missiles impacted across the human warship. But its shields held easily, dissipating each strike with efficiency.
Resuming its offensive, the Yamato activated its main cannons once more. Two gigawatt particle beams lashed out, melting through the foremost frigates in a pair of massive explosions. Shrapnel and debris pelted the remaining ships, crippling their systems. Bombardment from the escorts mopped up the drifting hulks.
With their main attack crushed, the rest of the fleet broke into a panic-fueled retreat. They scattered in all directions, pursued relentlessly by human forces. Within the hour, only broken ship fragments remained of what was once a formidable invader fleet.
Aboard the Yamato, Captain Sato surveyed the devastated aftermath with a heavy heart. So many lives lost unnecessarily, due to the faction's brutal conquests. But now, Estron could begin to heal thanks to humanity's intervention. As cleanup crews tended to survivors, Sato opened a channel to Earth and to Galactic Council to deliver their mission report.
Word of the battle's outcome would help forge new bonds of trust, and cooperation between humanity and the Galactic Council.
In the ruins of Estron's capital, Councillor Vek witnessed humanity's compassion firsthand. Survivors were rescued, and cared for without regard for species or faction. She knew in that moment that the Pax Terra had begun, and a new era of partnership had dawned with Earth.
