Hi everyone, I’ve got a bit of an odd situation and I’m just not sure the best/most social norm way to go about it is.
I (26 f) have recently had a birthday. Obviously not a big one or mile marker, but a birthday none the less. Im not really one for big celebrations and it’s often just spent at home with my partner, responding to a few happy wishes via text and calling to thank others for cards.
Typically, I always receive a card from my step grandparents for Xmas and my birthday (they entered my life when I was 17) and they’ve always made it a point to tell my parents and I that I would be treated as any other grandkid blood or not. Beyond being invited to family events this has usually extended into gifts as well.
Before anything else I want to state that yes, in regards to birthday the ‘gift’ is most typically some money in a card - but my concern admittedly isn’t about whether or not I’m going to get the money or not. Yes the money is nice, but I’m more concerned over the /why/ rather than if I’m getting some cash or not.
This side of my family is admittedly known for being a bit drama filled. Given I married through parents into it, I am typically a fly on the wall in most gatherings, dont get me wrong everyone has been very welcoming and kind to me but maybe that in part is due to me being an ‘outsider’ in a way and therefor all the easier for them to just unload on me when the wine is flowing. A common thought that goes through my head is ‘oh god why are you telling me this i feel like i shouldn’t know this jfc the person youre complaining about is one room over’ if that helps put it in context.
Ive seen standoffs, petty comments on fb posts, passive aggressive remarks in a christmas toast battle (it was every bit as awkward as you imagine) and feel i know way too much about some people i see at most once a year.
It is because of this that I am hung up on wondering if I did something to upset my grandparents and just dont know it. Purposely holding back a card until an apology is received or some ‘lesson’ is taught is something that i wouldnt be surprised by. This has led to me rethinking our past few meet ups and analyzing for something i could’ve said/did/didnt do and can’t really think of anything? I was unable to attend a party last summer but everything seemed fine at Xmas and I made sure to thank them for everything they had given me at the holidays.
At the same time I could see that they genuinely forgot (didn’t get a text or call from either of them on the day) or could even be busy and haven’t gotten around to it or maybe im too old now and have aged out?
Im just not sure what to do or how to go about it. I would be fine with just basically letting it go but Im anxious theres some crime ive committed and am unaware of - and if that is the case I don’t want to let it stew up until the next family gathering and potentially be blindsided with being the hot gossip of the night.
TLDR: My step-grandparents didn’t get me a birthday card and Im not sure how to ask (if i should at all) if its because I upset them or if they forgot

When creating Tokyo Drift, Justin Lin the directoproducer had to fight for Han(a character he created) to be Asian. Tokyo Drift is a movie set in Asia and borrows heavily from different parts of modern modern Japanese culture. This movie would have only an Asian villain and a bunch of Asian background characters of Han wasn’t included. Lin creates this great character in Han to fill that void and Hollywood execs like the character but respond with “Why don’t we make him African American instead?”
I was reminded of this when seeing the new Assassin’s Creed because it’s pretty much the same mentality those Hollywood execs had 20 whole years ago. There was another post of someone who worked on this game early in its development and said it was originally supposed to be an Asian male main character, but the execs changed course. Similar to what was going to happen to Han if Justin Lin didn’t fight for Han to stay Asian. In this new Assassin’s Creed game, they are using Asia as the setting, using Asian culture so heavily, but again Asian men are being delegated to the villains/cannon foddeNPCs/etc. This happens in literally EVERY SINGLE instance the West uses our culture, people, and countries for their media. Last Samurai, Great Wall, Shogun, Tokyo Vice, Bullet Train w Brad Pitt, the list is long. You can even include Three Body Problem and The Company You Keep. The new White Savior narrative in Asian based Western media is now anyone who’s non Asian. Anybody but Asian men is the MO. On top of that they will get applauded for it by the Western progressives.
The long history of Asian male erasure and marginalization will NEVER be spoken on in circles outside of Asians. It’s a covert form of Yellow Peril for the Right. It checks the boxes for the white liberals. Win-win for both sides in the West.

If anyone is ignorant to this whole topic of Asian emasculation and Asian male erasure in Western media. It boils down to Asian men gaining economic power both domestically in the US and overseas in Asia. It’s to combat that and keep the status quo of influence and power the way it is. They want a unipolar society/world, not a multipolar society/world.

Hey! I really need advice on what to do here.
Last night we were cleaning our balcony cause it was going to be repainted and discovered a birds nest with 4 baby birds in it. We left it alone in hopes that the mother would come back.
This next morning, my mom had told me she saw the mother bird come back and she was with the babies. A couple hours later, they were all gone and I looked out the side of the balcony and 2 had unfortunately fell off. I had no clue where the others were. About 10 minutes ago, I found the other two curled up in between the wall of my balcony and a bin. They aren’t in their nest but the nest is still there.
I’m not sure if their Mom will come back or if I should call someone. Any advice will be appreciated!

I've been trying to regain access to a business page that I set up and now don't have access to (it wasn't hacked or anything, it looks like ownership of it was broken during the shift to portfolios, my business manager is also completely gone). I have all the necessary documentation, but I can't find a way to actually contact anyone to provide it and fix the page ownership. I've attempted to add it to my current portfolio, but neither myself nor the one other person who had access to it receive access notifications when I try to connect it. We still can log into the Instagram account, and post content from there to the FB page, but can't post directly, nor can we add the instagram account to the Business Portfolio because it belongs to the page which we can't link...

I am making a 1.19.2 Mega mod pack and I was able to load into the Minecraft loading screen and everything but the game instantly crashes once I create a world. Me (21f) and my mom (52f) don’t get along because when I was growing up she wasn’t a very good person/mom. She would hit me to the point I would bruise with anything she could find. She threw a brush at me from down the hall and it missed me but went through the wall leaving a hole in it. She loses her job or quits when it gets to hard. She is emotionally, mentally, physically abusive, she told me that I was fat because I’m her eyes I ate to much (In reality I ate very little). That caused me to have a very unhealthy relationship with food I still don’t eat as much as I should because I hear her voice in my head said I’m going to get fat. She neglected me growing up I had lot of health issues and she didn’t take me to the doctors unless I got really sick to the point that I had a 104 fever.
From the ages of 2-12 there was some things happening that I’m not going to talk about on here. I tired to tell her multiple times and she never cared or did anything about it. I told her that I was getting bullied at school and she didn’t care she asked me “what did it do to them”. I was raped in high school and I didn’t tell my parents because of the no trust I had for my mom and I got pregnant from the rape and I miscarried by myself. When things got bad the my rapist (He would follow me around school and threaten me if I told anyone). I went to the counselors office and told my counselor she informed my parents and DSS without my consent (I told her I didn’t want my parents involved I just wanted her to handle it and stop him from following me). I went home that day from school and my mom told me to sit down and have a talk with her, I thought I was in trouble but she asked me what exactly happened that night and I told her what happened and she told me “Are you lying to get attention or you think you’re going to get in trouble for having (smex)” . I told her no that everything I said was real and then told me that it was probably my fault and at this point I’m crying my other parent told her that I was lying.
I have issues with trusting people and I have health issues from being neglected and I have issues with people touching me in anyway my own fiancé doesn’t even know what kind of mood or state I’m going to be in and I struggled with SH. I’ve tried un-aliving myself and I struggle with self love from growing up like that. There is more to all of this but it will be a book by the time I’m done but (AITA) for wanting to block my mom. Hey everyone,
So I’ve rented before and I know what the prices in Ottawa are like right now. I came across this listing last weekend for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo near Mooneys Bay, and the price seems too good to be true. The agent who posted the listing on Facebook Marketplace said that the landlord would be in touch with me shortly.
Landlord reaches out to me and THEN says everything is included in the rent. I looked up the pictures online when the home was listed for sale back in 2022, and it looks too good to be true. Has a backyard, parking, and the kitchen is recently updated with a dishwasher and new appliances.
Landlord is asking for an application fee, which I know isn’t required as per the LTB, but has anyone seen anything like this before? Is it a scam, or am I overthinking the good deal on this and should just pay it? Landlord will not budge on me paying the application fee.
Also should mention that the lister on Facebook has many other properties for rent at very reasonable prices.
Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'll try to put as much information with as much detail as I remember:
I went to a website to download a specific game mod manager. That was the official site for the mod (which is very known by the game community itself),
I clicked on what I believe that was the correct download button. That instantly downloaded a .zip called x64__x32_installer.zip with a .msi installer on it. Extracted the .msi, executed it, it did install something on my machine, but no results for the manager I was expecting.
Then I went to the website again, I just clicked the RIGHT download button, and the right installer was downloaded. Then, I realized the file I downloaded and executed in the first place was something strange. Felt like sh*t, even more because i'm an IT professional and always took care with that.
Much probably I had either one of those two things going on, both as misleading ads:

• a download link placed right next to the correct download button
• a full page invisible div that trolled me

2-5 minutes later, my Google Chrome closed unexpectedly. Tried opening it a couple times, it kept closing, then I was able to open it again.
After that, I remembered a friend that has this exact same behavior (downloading something -> executing -> browser closing) and reported that a lot of his accounts on online services were compromised.
Immediately, I took two actions: full AV scan with both Windows Defender and AdwCleaner and specific AV scan on the .msi installer itself, nothing found on both, then changed all my passwords that were stored on Chrome, remove all credit cards and sensitive information.
Everything done. Hours later, somebody did post on my Facebook on my behalf (an Osam4 B!n L4d3n photo, which immediately took my account down. Was able to recover it and changed the password). But the strange thing is: I have 2FA on EVERYTHING and Facebook DID NOT notify me of anybody trying to get in, what makes me think somebody got my active session on websites.
After that, I ran a MSI analyzer on the .msi and saw some references to a password-related software (can't remember the name). But nothing caught as malicious by the antivirus.
Things that happened after:

• Somebody tried to access my iCloud account from China 7 days after the incident. Got the notification, dismissed the access request. Realized that I hadn't changed my password on it since the incident, so I did and everything fine so far
• 2 russian fake profiles were added as account admins for my Facebook Ads Manager. Cannot remove them since I got a strike from Facebook, so my account has a lot of restrictions. They tried to create an ad for a fake page with a stolen credit card, but that wasn't published also due to the strike
• Somebody also did post a bible verse (??????) on my Reddit account, which also took my account down by suspicious activity. Changed the password and everything fine since then.

Malicious files that I remember from the list inside the MSI

• /Roaming/Vuis Queue/AppQue/libpcre1.dll

My main questions are:

1. What sort of malware did I get?
2. Why wasn't it detected by Windows Defender?
3. What was the logic behind posting a terror!st photo to take my account down? Just trolling? Didn't it makes more sense to just create an ad/changing my password/email without raising attention?
4. Were those malicious actions automated by scripts, or manually executed by attackers?
5. How did they got the ability to steal passwords stored on Chrome browser without asking for any other passwords? (Because if I try seeing it on the browser, I need to provide my Windows password)
6. Is that a browser vulnerability?
7. I've been using my browser normally. Just trusting my AV and doing regular scans and not saving passwords anymore on it. Do I still need to take any action to make sure i won't be compromised again?

That's a little bit different of the common attacks we see on social media. Usually people do hijack accounts and post stuff to lead people to send money, etc. I'd love some technical information on that to read about! Thanks!

Hello beautiful people of Reddit! this is my first post here; this is a long story to buckle up!
So this all starts in 2018, my (24 female) brother (28 male) are very close, he met a woman at his job at the time, let's call her Jamie (Female 28) at the time. In the beginning, she seemed very sweet, she had a dog that was her everything, she took care of the dog like a baby, so everything seems to be going well, now enter 2019, Jamie announces that she was pregnant, something that she had claimed was impossible due to her PCOS, (I too have PCOS and it is rare for it to render you 100% infertile) so 9 months later, Jamie gives birth to a baby boy whom we will call Jackson, right after this, Jamie gets very sick, she can barely get out of bed and is miserable. At the time of Jackson's birth, they lived in a trailer while my brother saved for moving out of state. Now Jamie decided that it was mold causing her symptoms, so she had my brother build her an ADU where she locked herself and their son up almost 24/7 because she didn't want him to get dirty.
After about a year, the three of them move up to Washington, during that time, Jamie becomes a hypochondriac, she starts neglecting her dog and getting very anxious about her partner's whereabouts. After almost one and a half years, my brother finds a home that he can afford, but Jamie's first words about it were " But it's not a nice brand-new house" the home was built in the 1960's and perfectly fine.
Now during all of this time, Jamie has become a helicopteiPad parent, especially after Jackson has been unofficially diagnosed with Autism, in its early stages she said " I am so happy he has autism, because it gives me a purpose again" Over the next three years, Jamie insults me, my parents, my brother, all while spending his money like water, she would spend around $1,500 on every birthday party, if Jackson bullied another kid, she didn't correct him, she never encouraged him to say any words,, no manners, she would always say " He is so smart, he will start doing fill in the blank when he wants to" . She would belittle, insult and control my brother all the time, if he wanted to take a few hours to himself, she would blow a fuse, and or come up with something she needed help with like opening a jar.
So after years, I decided to distance myself from her for my own sanity, I call my brother on the weekends and catch up, but I cannot stand to be around her and their dumpster fire of a son, I love my brother so I do my best not to rock the boat and make things hard for him, but I have to pull away from her for my own sake.

This topic has come up multiple times on multiple occasions as I would like to think my self a pretty open man, I believe in an equal partnership, I don’t think my partner has to take my name and I think in a situation where we want kids (both half and half tho I’m leaning no )since she is the women birthing the kids she would have authority over the names unless she tells me otherwise . I do not nor will I ever indorse toxic masculinity or toxic patriarchy , that being said I try and practice what I believe is masculinity one not dictated by the media or society in ways that I do not oppress others .
It will become relevant soon , i told my gf no and that I would keep my names tho I’m willing to hyphenate or have a new last name like a additional name but I will keep my names , she was not happy about this and said that hyphenating is not the same and not getting rid of the names that carry generational karma ,she asked why and I cited my relationship with my father.
Quick backstory raised by Mother barely saw my father they went to court over my custody saw him every once in a while though my mother interfered . I have no ill will towards both my parents but due to this I didn’t develop a strong connection to my father until my 20s.He is an educated and smart man but contrary to his demeanour and how he conducts himself he is old school African and as he is the patriot of his family as his eldest son, I am to inherit his name.
Now why I want to keep his name is not because of some tradition I didn’t grow up with , it is because we’ve gotten so close and these couple of years and I understand his reason such as the son is supposed to inherit the name but for me the name is my tie with him. If I had a shitty relationship with him , would be a different story but as I have a good relationship, I don’t want to get rid of his name.
These reasons I stated above is why I wouldn’t get rid of the names , she didn’t like that and gave me the reasons that it’s perpetuating shitty patriarchal standards and asked me if it’s the same with a woman/ daughter? As I can understand her response and reasoning I told her she is valid in her viewing of the situation however I don’t want to keep it. These reasons I want to keep it so I can feel close to him.
She asked if we had children would I expect them to have my name and I said not really as she is and would be the mother who will gothrough labour to have these kids. She would have ultimate Vito power in regards to the children’s first second and last name . And as for myself, I will keep my name .

She is normally is a person willing to have communicate and compromise, but for the first time she wouldn’t talk to me and went to bed sad(tho we did cuddle before she slept) and now I’m typing this while she sleeps so all I need to know is Aita? So one of the moderators of my local Facebook group lost her cafe a few months back and has been posting more and more about what we need. Anyone who slightly disagrees with her is blocked or she gets into a fight with in the comments section. She then regularly posts that she won’t be bullied in the group. We all knew where this was going. She announced a few weeks back she’s running for the council and has since been publicly complaining that the candidates are putting too many posters and is contacting them to have them taking down( I’m sure there’s no other reason as to why she doesn’t won’t her rivals having posters up) and all her posts have one like on her new campaign page….. from her. This has been a fun development.

I am intrigued by this topic because someone on a Madridista page on Facebook posted that is very possible we can dominate La Liga just like how Bayern did in the Bundesliga, Juve did in Serie A, and prime Barcelona did in the 2010s, in my opinion it can be feasible just because we have a young squad that is very hungry for titles and are still growing and also play as a unit, with Mbappe coming this summer that improves our chances for domination for the next years, plus the quality in La Liga has really gone downhill in recent times I don’t see Barcelona really competing with their current struggles and in Atletico as along as Simeone is coach they won’t be title contenders, nothing is guaranteed but it’s about time we dominate La Liga, this shall be a juicy discussion here.

So let me start off hy saying I 26m and married to my wife 24f for about a year now. I love her with every Fiber of my being. We moved in together about 7 months into dating and it's been constant trouble from that point out and here's why.
The place we rent is owned by her parents. It's a douplex of sorts. The top floor is a full house in it of itself. My mother in law, father in law, and brother in law live up there. Me and my wife live in the lower level, which has its own driveway, front door access, and is a full home in it of itself. My problem is when I moved in I was told it is our home. We have free reign over it, and we are living completely separate from the family upstairs. This has not been the case.
I'm a tradesman. For a short while I was laid off, so I did some jobs around the house for some scratch. I was paid for one job, which included laying new flooring in 3 different rooms, and building a closet. I was paid 300 dollars. Not much, but I appreciated what I got. Since then, there have been numerous projects that I have had to do on the house, none of which were compensated.
I'll preference this by saying about a year ago, my father in law got diagnosed with ALS. He was the type to never stop moving and doing stuff on the house (according to my wife). So he had plans for a bunch of different projects, and now that he can't do them, me, my wife, and her brothers are expected to do them on his behalf. (Enforced by the mother in law)
We did a few small ones here and there, no problem. The issue arose when I had to build a 60ft paverstone pathway for when my father in law needed a wheelchair. I had never done it. I was told I was going to get paid for it. Halfway through the project, I started working again. Since I was now working my mother in law told me that since I'm working now, they don't need to pay me because I live here and it's part of my job to maintain the house now. There are many more but those are a few. There's also concrete she wants put in, a greenhouse built on me and my wife's front patio, we have no say in it. She said she's purchasing patio furniture for our patio, but we don't have any say in style or colors since she's buying it. Even though I was going to buy a set for me and my wife.
On top of all the projects, my wife, and my brothers in law have a daily chore list, a weekly chore list, and a monthly chore list. One of their daily chores is literally to feed their mother.
My mother in law is my father in laws caretaker, but is consistently asking the kids to do stuff like make his food or make his medicine, she requires one person with her at all times in case she needs help helping her husband. All the while she sits on the couch and either naps, or reads the Bible. She does help my father in law, don't get me wrong, but not nearly enough to exhaust her on the daily.
Mother in law doesn't clean, cook, do laundry, nothing. It's all her children doing it.
My wife is wanting to start a family, but can't even spend time in her own house with her husband because she's constantly called upstairs to clean up for her mother, or cook, or sit and watch her father with her mother. Meanwhile, I'm working full time, then coming home to a messy house, being the only one cleaning or maintaining the cleanliness of our home. That's dishes, clothes, sweeping, vacuuming, the whole shabang, and yet when I don't come up and help clean THEIR MESS upstairs, it upsets the mother in law.
That being said I'm still expected to help do every projects the MIL comes up with simply because she wants it done. I ask my wife if we can move somewhere close by but in a house all our own so we're not under the MILs thumb constantly and it's like talking to a wall. I voice my problems and I get a "it sucks, but this is the way it has to be" so I get nowhere.
I feel like my feelings aren't valid, and my problems are inconsequential to the problems my wife and her family are going through so I can't bring them up. And when I do, they're brushed under the rug. I don't want to leave my wife but I'm expected to be a slave to the family simply because I live here, and my wife will not move out.
What do I do??

As they emerged from the shadows, Sahar could see a group of men standing before him. They were all battered and bruised, just like him, but they had a look of determination in their eyes. "We are the rebels," the leader of the group said. "And we are here to save you." Sahar couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had given up hope, but now, it seemed like there was a chance for him to escape this nightmare. The rebels quickly went to work, freeing Sahar and the other men from their bonds. They tended to their wounds, doing their best to ease their pain. But then, something unexpected happened. One of the rebels, a man named Kaden, approached one of the captor's bodies. He was still aroused, and he couldn't resist the temptation of the corpse. He began to violate the body, fucking it with a savage intensity. The other rebels watched in disgust, but Kaden didn't care. He was consumed by his lust, and he wasn't going to stop until he was satisfied. Sahar and the other rebels were repulsed by Kaden's actions, but they knew that they had to focus on their escape. But they found themselves confronted by an army of flesh-plant hybrids, guarding his chamber. A brutal battle ensued as both sides fought for control over Sahar's body. The rebels used every weapon and tactic at their disposal, but the flesh-plant hybrids were relentless. In the end, the rebels emerged victorious. But they were horrified by what they saw. Sahar's body was a twisted and mutilated mess, his genitals barely recognizable. But it was too late. Sahar's body had become an incubator for countless more mutated creatures. They were waiting to be born into this twisted new world order, ruled by unnatural desires fueled by sexual violence against humans turned into living organ farms.

I wrote this back in 2020, apologies for any spelling mistakes or cringe. I wanted to post this for fun, to see what sort of theories people would have in the comments! Feel free to have discourse over the story, and I welcome constructive criticism. I will be continuing this in the form of a novel at a later date.
Deep in the woods, where the stink of decay invades your senses and you can't see your hand in front of your face, lies a foreboding structure. Most of the year it is quiet, watching, waiting for someone like you to come along and stumble into its trap, to become ensnared by chaos and pure evil.
However, today it shakes, creaking with excitement as an old man with gray hair and sideburns hobbles his way up the front steps, pausing every now and then to rap his cane on the enormous building.
"Hello again, old friend," His raspy voice calls out into the silence, the birds and crickets knowing very well to avoid this place.
The storm windows slam against the sides of the house, creating a cacophony of noise in the evening air as it welcomes the man inside, a plush chair sliding under his feet and a fire lighting itself in the fireplace.
"Do you know what today is?" The walls curve in closer, desperate for the answer to the question, hoping for the one request the house has had all year to be true.
And it was.
The old man smiled and stated calmly, "It is time. In one week they will arrive, and you will feast once more."
The whole building shook with youthful exuberance, almost seeming to be jumping for joy as it heard his words.
And then, there was silence once more, and the building resumed its duty of watching, waiting, and, in a way, smiling.
