2024.05.17 01:31 kandle-flower2 Take a new job for more $ but less benefits?

Currently in a full-time remote role at a large public state university for the last close to 4 years and got offered a new FT remote role with a 45% increase in salary at a smaller yet more prestigious private university in a different state. Trying to decide if i should take the position.
Benefit Cons: 1 less week of PTO 2 less sick days Higher insurance premium (about $400 more per month than what I’m currently paying) Will have to be on-site 2x a year for 2-3 days with travel paid out of pocket. Different time zone so the schedule is 1- hour behind, although they said they would be flexible with this.
I calculated that the current extra benefits (PTO/Sick/travel) equal to about $7K per year. Which would bring me down to about a 35%-ish increase in take home pay realistically speaking when accounting for the loss. Everything else is comparable to what I have now including the 401k.
In my current role we’re required to be on site 1x a year, however, I live close by and can drive there within an hour. Myself and kids can also get on my husbands insurance, if needed. We’re all on mine now bc it is a bit better than his. The new company has the same BCBS insurance and its equivalent coverage but I think has a higher premium bc the Univ. has a smaller number of employees.
It’s a slightly smaller office too so the workload will be a bit more..but it’s doing the same thing I am now so I don’t expect it to be too difficult as I’m pretty seasoned in the job. They are hiring 2 additional people too so once hiring is complete the workload will be spread out even further.
Id say there will be more opportunity for upward mobility in job titles in this new office. If I stay where I’m at, it’s basically the same position title and being stagnant for at least the next 4-5 years until some people retire. I like my job now, and I love the people. I am comfortable, it’s flexible, i have a lot of personal time, I don’t NEED the extra $ but would be nice since my son is attending college next year and I can pay off some debts faster.
HERES the kicker THO. My current university gives a 75% tuition discount for dependents and my son could attend here basically for almost free. He’s said it’s his “back up plan” and doesn’t plan to go there unless his other college options decline…but still. The new University does offer a 50% tuition discount to dependents, however, with it being a private more prestigious institution the acceptance rate is very low so I don’t even know if he would get accepted! He also is applying for a ROTC scholarship so this may not even matter all together at the end of the day if he gets it and the military pays for his college. Too many “what ifs” with this part.
I guess I’m more so concerned with staying stagnant in my career.. I’d like to move up and around but I also am afraid of a new office culture/politics, toxic work environments, what if I hate it, etc.?
Thoughts??

2024.05.17 01:30 Salt-Ad-2880 Day 6 without Effexor

I was taking 37.5 mg for two weeks and I haven’t taken it at all for 5 days and I don’t know how much more I can take. My stomach is cramped, loss of appetite, vomnitting, constantly nauseas, my body temperature is off I randomly get soooo hot and cold like chills I guess. Acid reflux, so fatigued. The brain zaps which I don’t know why they’re called that because I feel it everywhere in my body it feels like I’m gonna pass out for that split second and I’m also so dizzy. Rapid heart rate. Extreme anxiety and intrusive thoughts. And oh my god the NIGHTMARES are out of this world horrible. I’m also raising a 7 week old pup rn and I’m being soooo mean because I just am so angry and impatient I can’t even help it . I’m about to take one just to feel a little bit better, tomorrows my heart surgery and I just don’t know why I’m still suffering so bad after 6 days I was barely on it for 2 months ! And I did 1 day 1 day off for almost a month before cutting.

2024.05.17 01:29 JamFranz I’m calling about a past due balance on your account (Part 13) - That one time we went to Canada

I work for a ‘special collections’ agency and I don’t think our customers are human.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13
I wasn’t exactly thrilled when, on the first night P’uy̓ám stayed with me, the moment we sat on the sofa he turned to me and asked, “Can we talk?”
I was tempted to sprint out the front door (like any perfectly reasonable and emotionally stable person would), but I’m proud to say that I managed to fight that instinct. The talk ended up basically being ‘did I mind that he wasn’t human’. I told him no, he’s the smartest, nicest person I know, and I think he’s amazing. I asked him if he minded that I am human, and he told me he didn’t care about that. He said I make him laugh, and spending time with me makes him happy and want to be the best version of himself. He did also say that I’m beautiful and a lot smarter than I claim I am, but I chalk up those last two to him being super nice, because if asked to describe myself, the two words I’d probably use would be, ‘loud’ and ‘confused’.
We just stared at each other awkwardly for a moment after that, neither of us seemed entirely sure what to do – it was the first time we’d actually been alone together since ‘the kiss’.
Just when we’d figured it out (and no, internet stranger, I’m not going to be sharing any more specific details, thanks), a knock on the door and the sound of Sandy’s voice outside interrupted us.
“Oh hey hon. I just wanted to make sure you were still alive.” She smiled once I jumped up to open it.
Her eyes drifted to P’uy̓ám who waved awkwardly from the couch, glasses askew.
“Well alrighty then, I guess I’ll be going.” She just stood there, looking a bit lost.
I realized that was the first night she’d come home to any empty house after having company for a month straight – I guess even unspeakable horrors get lonely too.
“Sandy, do you want to come in and watch a movie with us?” I offered after a moment.
“Oh, you betcha!” she brightened and then proceeded to choose the seat between us. I swear she’s got psychic chaperone powers or something.
I suggested that maybe the three of us could do a game night every month, since we figured it’d be nice to catch up outside of just when we were trying to prevent the world was ending. I must say though, I thought Sandy was intense as a supervisor but she is a thousand times more frightening as a poker player – and we don’t even play for money.
I joked that we needed to take her to a casino, but she very seriously replied, “Oh I’m banned from every one in the state.”
I moved apartments after a month had passed without hearing from Yyohn. I’d been waiting to be absolutely sure, because I didn’t want to saddle a new renter with the whole, ‘you might be pulled into a nightmare world and sacrificed to an interdimensional entity’ thing – that would’ve been really inconsiderate.
I was so appreciative that P’uy̓ám stayed with me for a while. I may write with bravado when describing things in retrospect, but the very real possibility of being dragged through a reflective surface silently in the night never to be seen again, did freak me out.
It was also nice to finally spend some time together where we weren’t worrying about the imminent demise of either myself or our plane of existence (well no more than we usually have to worry, at least).
We decided not to tell anyone at the office that we're dating, it's easier that way. Well, I mean, Sandy knows since she did witness our first kiss whilst they were burying me alive.
As the time approached for our trip, I just really hoped that after not seeing P’uy̓ám for decades, maybe his family would welcome him back this time, forgive him for the minor transgression of ‘leaving home’ (yes, I’m still salty that they pretty much disowned him for that.) I figured if he didn’t, maybe he could get some closure, he could at least see the places where he grew up – homesickness had very clearly been really eating at him ever since we went into the woods for team building.
When we were planning our trip, he told me he’s never liked planes and was hoping to avoid flying. Considering ‘traveling on business’ in our line of work isn’t exactly defined as moving across physical space, it made some sort of sense.
He said it was something about not having solid ground under his feet, but when we mapped it out, it was over 5,000 miles round trip – so we could either spend 40 hours in a car, or 6 hours on a plane, each way.
He decided to give flying a shot.
People sometimes struggle to pronounce my first and last names off my driver’s license or credit cards, but they’ll at least try. As we were checking in the lady at the desk ended with, “Thank you Mr….” and then after staring at his driver’s license in silence for a few moments just gave up and handed it back to him.
I get it though, I mean, if I hadn’t heard him pronounce his last name, I would’ve never guessed it on my own – I’d just never encountered a ‘7’ in a name before I met him.
The security guy at the airport spent a long time studying P’uy̓ám’s passport. He stared at P’uy̓ám, then the passport with narrowed eyes. Back to him, then the passport, several times before eventually shrugging and handing it back over. I peeked at it before he put it away and noticed it said he was born in 1960 – and he may be 233, but he looks like he’s in his early thirties at most, so that explained the look of disbelief written on the agent’s face.
When I asked him about it, he said it’s a lot of work to fake all the documents needed to make the date match his outward appearance.
“It was a lot easier before there were electronic records.” He smiled.
I warned him that he should probably update that soon – bureaucratic apathy would only get him so far.
As we waited in the security line, his eyes widened when he saw people go through the body scanner, and he asked me what it was. When I told him, he turned pale and said he couldn’t go through it.
That left me with some questions.
“P’uy̓ám, when was the last time you flew?”
He had to think about that for a moment. “1986?”
“Yeahhhh… I’m pretty sure you can ask not to, but they’ll probably pat you down if you skip it.”
He grew even paler at that.
“Do you want the scan, or the hands?”
He ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head, indicating that he wanted neither, which unfortunately for him was not an option.
I squeezed his hand, which helped calm him down – only letting go when it was time to show our IDs, and even then, only after the TSA officer glared at us
It’s a good thing we got there early, because when they asked if he’d emptied his pockets, he said no.
So, I watched him remove:
We both got out of line so he could check his bag and keep his tools – and I didn’t want him to have to go through it again by himself.
I hated seeing that look of misery on his face – I tried to maintain comforting eye contact with him as they patted him down.
They did let him keep the dirt with him, after scanning it since it’s apparently not prohibited, (just weird). He proceeded to stick it in one of his beat-up Converse before putting his shoes back on.
I understood the dirt – since he mentioned something about solid ground, I guessed it was as close as he was going to get on a plane – and even the multitool and knife.
But, when I asked him why he was trying to bring 16g of RAM into rural Canada in his pockets he just smiled, “You never know when you might need it.”
As soon as we boarded, I realized flying had been a terrible idea. He had a hard time fitting his legs in since he’s so tall – his knees were just jammed in there the whole time. Before we took off, some guy elbowed him in the face while trying to load a bag into the bin and P’uy̓ám said ‘I’m sorry’ to him. I glared at the guy until he apologized.
Everything freaked him out and he gripped the arm rests for dear life the entire flight. The sound of the wheels, staring out at the wings and the little flaps every time they moved (“Are those supposed to be doing that?” to which I could only unhelpfully shrug), the turbulence. I was just glad they let him keep the dirt.
He looked so absolutely horrified during the entire flight and I felt so bad for him. Before we even landed, I asked him if he wanted to drive on the way back instead of flying and he instantly said yes, relief written across his face.
We had to rent a car to get to his hometown, and it took us an extra two hours to get there because there were so many places he wanted to stop and show me, like this amazing waterfall off highway 99. I could’ve done without the constant feel of eyes on us despite us being alone, but it was definitely beautiful, at least.
We began to see signs for this little touristy shop. As we kept driving, the billboards seemed to multiply, until they were at almost every mile. At my insistence, we stopped.
I regretted that decision as soon as we walked in – the place was devoid of life, there were no other customers, no employees – and something about how the dim, blueish lights cast shadows across the shelves gave me a searing headache.
Not to mention the items on the shelves themselves – a mildewy hoodie, that had ‘Someone who loves me visited Oklahoma and bought me this sweatshirt!’ written in fading letters.
It seemed more like a second hand shop than a tourist trap.
I’d found a beaded purse, but it had a wallet and driver's license still in it.
As we wandered, a case of jewelry across the store caught my eye and drew me towards it – it was insane how beautiful each piece was – all so captivating, and each one was totally unique. They looked almost like blown glass – swirling golds and blues in one, sharp magentas with specs of green in another.
As I was leaning in closely, studying them – it almost looked as if they were moving a bit in their case – someone whispered directly into my ear from over my shoulder, “Thanks for stopping in”
The guy appeared out of nowhere to lean in over my shoulder, causing me to scream (just a reasonable amount).
Creeper dude walked around to position himself behind the counter, asked if I wanted to see anything, before pausing to study my face for a moment. His eyes drifted down to the pendant that P’uy̓ám made me, the one for ‘I’m totally not a human, please don’t eat me’ purposes.
“Oh, this is beautiful”, he whispered, before deciding to violate my personal space by lifting it up and holding it.
His demeanor instantly changed from a handsy salesperson to something else entirely – his grin widened and he looked a little too excited.
“Have you signed our guest book?” He gripped my left wrist tightly, shoved a pen into my right, and studied me in a way that told me he wouldn’t let go until I signed it.
“Can I switch hands please?”
He had the audacity to look at me as if I had mildly inconvenienced him, but did let me switch after I told him that was the only way he’d get actual, readable, words.
I flipped through the thick, yellowing pages to find a blank one and signed it ‘Mikayla G. and P’uy̓ám K.’
“Last names too.”
I sighed and wrote ‘Mikayla Garabedian and P’uy̓ám K--’ (I just wrote random letters after the K because I didn’t like how pushy he was being. )
“Exquisite, aren’t they?” he asked me with a smile, gesturing down at the jewelry. The small piece streaked with yellow and pinks was definitely shuddering in response to him pointing at it.
I nodded, but more out of politeness at that point, because he still had my wrist in a death grip.
“Mikayla, Wait.” I could hear P’uy̓ám call out in the distance, but I felt frozen there – it sounded like he was miles away
“Would you like to see how they’re made?”
Before I could answer, he leaned in and put a stone that resembled the others in shape and size, the only difference is that it was just plain, totally clear – into my hand, which he closed around it. It was like glass, but weightier, and where it touched my skin it burned slightly.
I could hear P’uy̓ám calling my name as he came sprinting over, right as the guy read my name off the guestbook.
P’uy̓ám gasped, but I didn’t understand why he was so freaked out.
Literally nothing happened.
P’uy̓ám helped me free my wrist from creepy guy’s crazy strong grip and sassily smacked the book out of his hands, before he could read it again.
And still, nothing happened.
The guy looked at us with narrowed eyes – a look P’uy̓ám returned, with even more intensity. The guy hissed at us as P’uy̓ám guided me out of the store.
Once we got to the parking lot, P’uy̓ám pulled me close to him and put his chin on the top of my head while quietly muttered that he wasn’t sure how I was unaffected – calling someone their true name is how all those other pendants got filled.
He hadn’t realized at first, but when he saw another collection of ‘items made from tourists’ (I made him repeat that to ensure I’d heard that correctly but he didn’t expound on what the ‘items’ were and I was a bit afraid to ask) in the back, he knew.
That was when P’uy̓ám ran over to me, but the guy already begun to read my name, so he was worried it was too late.
He was relieved when I saw that I didn’t provide either of our actual full names – I’ve learned that sharing your entire, true name isn’t a great idea, not with non-humans, probably not with the internet in general.
Mikayla is what I go by, but it’s my middle name – I mean, my sister’s name is ‘Hasmig’, so yeah, I have a fairly traditional first name, too. And no, I’m not sharing it here.
Look, I’m not saying that you’re going to come track me down and try to bind my soul to an inanimate object to then sell to tourists. But, after that ordeal, I’d rather not take that risk.
When I turned back around, the entire store was just … gone.
Apparently since I’m subletting a part of my soul (or as I like to say, ‘mildly possessed’), P’uy̓ám says mine was probably even more fascinating to the guy.
Due to our detours, it was getting dark by the time we reached P’uy̓ám’s family home.
Even in the low light, I could see the apprehension clearly written across his face. I wondered if he thought I was kidding about pummeling his family with my thousand page book if they were shitty to him. (Because I wasn’t)
The entire time, I’d thought that the worst thing that could happen would be that they rejected him – as we pulled up to the dark house, I realized how very wrong I was. _
If you want me to let you know when the next part is posted, just comment that you want me to update you, and I'll tag your user name when I post the next part :)

2024.05.17 01:22 JackFrostsKid Should I buy a house or keep renting?

I'm a blind 20 year old college student currently paying $900 a month in rent, plus another $400 a month in pet rent (4 rats, and a dog) I've been renting the house for 2 years now, and my lease is running out soon. My landlord has decided not to renew the lease as he would like to move in it to retire.
The house I'm renting currently has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It is not within any public transportation. The 3 bedroom is nice, because my grandma and brother often live with me for parts of the year because my hometown is under feet of snow most of the time, and is generally a nightmare to live in if your old. The lease is in my name, but the landlord knows that they stay with me for long amounts of time, and they help with rent when they are here.
I've always made rent on time; although maintaining employment has been incredibly difficult for me. Because no one likes it when blind people drive for some reason, (Jokes, Jokes I know why I can't drive) it's hard for me to get to and from both work and school. If I want to do anything, including but not limited to work and school, I have to beg a friend to drive out of their way to take me.
Now that I won't be able to stay here, I'm at a crossroads. I can either, find another place to rent, which will almost certainly be more expensive than where I am now, and won't be any closer to public transportation, or I can take advantage of a city run housing program for the disabled that would allow me to buy a house close to public transit. For the same amount of rent I pay now, I could own my home in 30 years.
On one hand, I really don't think I'll ever own a home if I don't take this opportunity. It would help me get a stable job since I would have semi-reliable transportation, and it has a spare room I could rent out, plus a yard for the dog. It's also near my school. I like the neighborhood, and generally enjoy living in my town.
On the other hand, I'm only 20. Literally anything could happen. The city is super depressed as a whole, with high unemployment, and low wages. There is a lot of crime, and it's not exactly easy to sell here. Plus there is a high crime rate and lots of gang related violence. Buying this house would take me out of the thick of it, but If I ever want to leave, I'd have to figure something out. If I buy, I'm locked into this location for the rest of my life.
The other catch is that this program is only available until July. I already am qualified for it, but in order for me to get it, I have to act fast. If I buy after the program closes, I lose it. If I buy now, even once it's gone, I've got it.
I also very well could be locked into this town one way or another. Since living here, I've made a bit of a name for myself. I sell crochet items and other handmade toys fairly regularly at local craft fairs. This combined with taking commissions for custom toys has been how I've been staying afloat for the last 2 years. Leaving the town, means starting from 0 as far as selling my art goes. Plus, my grandma and brother are both on board with helping to pay my mortgage or rent when they inevitably end up staying with me.
I'm leaning towards buying, but I'm still incredibly nervous about the decision.

2024.05.17 01:19 AwkwardCouple6057 I think my neighbor did this to him

I have a 1yr old stray male intact cat. He had no issues before other then needing dewormed and put on heartgard (which got discontinued). I believe he got shot since the entry wound is smaller and the exit wound is bigger but it has not been confirmed. I have also rubbed vasoline on it to see if it’s a maggot but nothing. My routine was doing an espon salt soak but the next days it didn’t seem to help. It did in the beginning let all the pus out. Let me know if I should keep doing that. So I did clean the wound with alcohol and very little hydrogen peroxide. My routine now is cleaning with saline and I just got Chlorhexidine Gluconate 4% that I have not used yet but was told too. I have been cleaning with saline then applying a thin layer of of antibiotic cream (that I was told was pet friendly) and wrapping his foot with gauze and bandages. I reapply once a day. Since then is has not as bad as the picture where I had a clear glove on.
The first day the swelling doubled and puss came out the next days the swelling went down and less puss came out more clear. The ANOMALLY is I didn’t notice at first but between his pads there was a fleshy hole! Did not even see this at first. But his flesh is still pink WITH NO SMELL and he will rarely but sometimes move his wrist but never walks on it. The swelling fluctuates tbh. I applied too much cream and used to much harsh cleaning solution (that’s why I switched to saline) that he bled thru his bandages and made them crusty, he was bleeding alot and a lot of pain. His bandages now r dry with little antibiotic cream. I was able to raise money for proper supplies during this time. But the puss has been worse and so has the bleeding now than day one but still seems to not be rotting or smelling and less swelling and states cleaner longer. I am trying to make sure the bandages aren’t too tight. Today his other paw also started swelling! I am so scared idk what this could be. Maybe it’s swelling cuz he has been using all his weight on it. But he is in very much pain for both some days it’s less tho. Even tho he is feeling horrible he still purrs, eats, drinks and sleeps. Any advice for caring for his wound or what other supplies I need or even what this could be. Should I start using alcohol to clean it again? And how to care for his swollen other paw maybe hot n cold compress(I am marking the swelling to keep track of it btw) ? I took some cotton balls in warm epson salt and let that soak then dried his paw, he seemed less fussy after that. I am still trying to raise money for him, so please be understanding that I’m trying my best. He was not even really my cat but I guess now he is, he has been so understanding and patient he has not bit or hissed at me at all which breaks my heart even more.

2024.05.17 01:14 Prof_Dankmemes FINRA CAT - May 8th Recording

This is a continued discussion for stepwn and maxtherealslayer on the strange Call on May 8th. I’ll let you guys have at it and see what you find in there.

[FINRA CAT] Our first question comes from Ora.
[ORA] Go ahead. Hi, I'd like to follow up on what seemed to be an initial acceptance that we need FDIDs in the outstanding rejects and outstanding material inconsistencies feedback files. What happened to that suggestion?
It looks like it's fallen off any tracking lists or, you know, it's not being mentioned. I'm not so worried to tell you the truth about us doing a wholesale cleanup before May 24, but even with these statistics that are not going down and hovering in the range of 70 or 80 or 90%, it sounds like this could be the underlying reason and the root cause of this struggle by industry members to understand which client, which account you are referring to. My biggest worry actually is just the second part to my question, and that will give you probably a full picture of my concern.
The biggest concern is from May 31st, right? Then you need to adhere to the T+3, 5 p.m. deadline to fix all the issues, right? And I can tell you, I'm just going to disclose this info, right?
So our CAT reporting agent, which is one of the biggest, right, Pershing, literally, they’re not providing submission files to their clients. They plan to introduce this feature in Q3 or Q4. They don't know yet. So how do you expect industry members who have a CAT reporting agent, i.e., Pershing, who does not provide submission files to their clients, to identify the client or account that has a problem? Literally, you're coming back with feedback: here is the submission file, here is the customer record ID, and our CAT reporting agent does not provide submission files.
So we're not psychic, right? How are we supposed to identify which client has a problem? It's absolutely impossible.
If we would have a master list of FDIDs, and you report in your feedback file, here’s an FDID having this issue, we would be able to bypass this restriction by CAT reporting agents not providing submission files. Because right now I can tell you, if Pershing continues with this feature, not to provide submission files, a huge chunk of industry members using them as a reporting agent will be completely blindfolded until they provide such a feature.
So that's my biggest concern from May 31st.
[FINRA CAT] Yes, we know that we've talked about this before. We have looked into it. We're not going to be able to get the FDIDs on these lists prior to that time frame. There’s a lot here in your comments.
[ORA] Just speaking to that, those rates, the 90%, the 75%, those are really on the material inconsistencies. Those are not rejections. Those are material inconsistencies. Where firms are working through, our understanding is that there is a pretty limited handful of firms contributing to that higher rate. So I don't believe that is the issue there. We certainly acknowledge that the FDIDs on these rejections will be helpful, and we have been looking into that, but it's not something that we're going to be able to get out prior to this compliance date.
[FINRA CAT] So what is your advice? Again, Pershing is servicing, I believe, definitely in the high hundreds of clients that they provide the service for. If they're not providing the submission files, what kind of psychic abilities are we supposed to have to identify clients seriously, in order to meet these T+3, 5 p.m. deadlines?
[ORA] It's absolutely impossible and not feasible for us to operate. Do you agree, or do you have some sort of solution to this, or are we supposed to go to court against Pershing? I don't know about other CAT reporting agents, but literally, I'm naming Pershing, and I know that Pershing has hundreds of clients they provide CAT reporting services for, and we’re just one of them.
And they literally, I have it in writing that they're not going to provide us with submission files until potentially Q4. How are we supposed to fix rejects that we cannot identify what exactly they are referring to?
[FINRA CAT] And then, Ora, do you mind just clarifying, is the issue here on the rejects or on the inconsistencies?
[ORA] Both. Rejects, yeah. Definitely rejects are the number one problem, on both clients and FDIDs, so you cannot identify anything. Your feedback file is completely useless, and I can tell you, even from an operational standpoint, we have an investment bank side internal solution, but you still need to go to IT because you're still deleting feedback files if we pick up from a certificate directory. So we have to go to IT to get these submission files, then scan them, oh, here is the client, thank God we found it. But on the wealth management side, where Pershing is our CAT reporting agent, we are getting nothing. So in terms of historical cleanup, we're trying to do wholesale, but it's also hit and miss because we don’t know what we’re dealing with. But from May 31st, we are completely blindfolded, so any new things that are showing up, we have no idea what they're referring to.
How are we supposed to fix that?
[FINRA CAT] Yeah, okay, let us take it back, let us talk a bit internally, and we'll probably be looking to…
[ORA] It's not just us, it's going to be a big chunk of industry members, literally 100% of Pershing’s clients. I'm not sure about other CAT reporting agents, whether they provide submission files or not. But for Pershing’s clients, it's going to be a massive issue. None of them will be able to meet T+3, 5 p.m. because we have no idea what you're complaining about in your feedback files. You see the problem, right?
[FINRA CAT] Yeah, certainly hear the issue.
[ORA] Okay, truly appreciate it, thank you.
[FINRA CAT] Okay, our next question comes from Varun. Go ahead, Varun, you may be muted locally.
[VARUN] Yeah, can you hear me now?
[FINRA CAT] Yes.
[VARUN] Yeah, thanks. I have the same concern that Ora mentioned. Pershing is someone who reports for us and they just said that they’re not going to provide files till Q4. So we are also blinded on that side.
So thanks for addressing that. My second question is, what will happen once I upload all the case records? Will my FDID errors in the CAT portal be repaired on their own, or how will they be fixed?
[FINRA CAT] Sorry, you're asking what will happen once you make your repairs?
[VARUN] No, once I upload all the case record case FDIDs in my CAT portal, what will happen with FDID errors which I have in the CAT portal? Right now I’m getting 100 errors each day. How will they be fixed? Will they repair themselves once I upload all the case records or FDIDs?
[FINRA CAT] Yes, that's correct. If you have the FDID validation errors on the transaction portal, where you're getting the error that says the FDID is not in the case, once you get it reported to the case and it is accepted, and it's valid on the event date, the FDID validation should reconcile.
[VARUN] Okay, perfect. Thanks. That's all from my side.

2024.05.17 01:04 Professional_Ad9674 Until what level do you feed your dragons?

I have dragons that are level 25, and they are who I use to play in arenas (mostly Legendary dragons). But if they are below Epic, I only put them up to 10. Now my problem is that the gold that I collect from habitats are not enough for me to regrow my farm. It always becomes negative e.g. I open Dragon City with 5.7 gold then collect gold from habitats and regrow my farm, and my gold becomes only 5.3. And I am thinking maybe I don't level up my dragons enough to increase their rate of gold per minute, because they are only level 10.
Sorry if it's a bit confusing lmao.

2024.05.17 01:04 EngineeringOnly8044 Dota Plus pre-match analysis is a complete and poorly managed scam.

How is it possible that before I bought Dota Plus, I didn't encounter people who ruin games?I heard that with Dota Plus, you would get information about whether the matches would be fair and with 0 toxic or feeder people. What a surprise I got after accepting about 7 matches with a 100% approval rating and 0 feeders, only to find out that in these 7 matches, I encountered worse feeders than before I had Dota Plus. In my previous games, I had feeders, but they weren't as excessively bad as the ones I get matched with since I have Dota Plus.I was about to reach Immortal, and now I've fallen back a bit because of these bad pre-match analyses from Dota Plus. How is it possible that such bad people, with a desire to ruin games, are within the group of people with a high approval rating of good players? The worst part is that now I have to tolerate this crap for a whole month until my damn subscription ends.

2024.05.17 00:50 Old_Combination_6239 This may help you to explain what's Hi-Res music to your CD friends

The following article may help you to explain what's Hi-Res music to your CD freinds as some of them may be mis-led into believe that "Hi-Res is useless" from information they got on the internet (especially from "audio science" discussion forums)

source: "768kHz for digital music sampling? Can you hear 384kHz? You're crazy... "(no-pseudo-science.blogspot.com)

Do I want to hear up to 384kHz? LOL... of course not 😂 768kHz sampling is for something else...

Hi-Res Audio DAC

The number one mis-understanding of why using Hi-Res music is:

"why we need to to hear frequencies that fall in the ultrasonic range (i.e. higher than 22kHz for most people)???"

If you asked similar question or answered someone's question like below, then you are pretty much belong to a group of people who don't know what's Hi-Res music is.

Hi-Res music is, in fact, to help your DAC to reconstruct better audio output for the audible range (yes, it is for the frequencies BELOW 22kHz with 768kHz sampling)...

(It is a real dialogue as I just saw it today in an Audio Science forum)

Someone asked:
Many DACs descriptions enhance in capital letters 32/768 kHz resolution. Is there any domain when such a resolution may be justified?
Other (more experienced member) replied:
Can you think of a circumstance where you'd even want a dynamic range of over 190dB and/or a frequency response up to 384kHz?
Apparently the Gray Moth can hear up to about 300kHz (gotta get away from those bats with that pesky echolocation thing), so there is that to consider if you want to record those sounds, but otherwise it doesn't seem to be useful for listening to music.

Sorry, I would like to help to debunk these misleading information on the spot in the discussion but I couldn't as I was stopped from replying that thread. I could only help here.

The wrong answer shown above is the number one mis-leading answer in an attempt to kill Hi-Res music (especially for the people who asked such question have limited knowledge about digital music / signal sampling).... I hope that guy won't really take the wrong answer from a supposed-to-be objective audio science based web site as a fact without checking more by himself.

Ok, then you may ask "then what Hi-Res do for us?" It is simple, let's see what it does first:

1. Over-sampling (ie. sample the original music signal more frequently within a second

2. More bits for bit-depth (i.e. 24 or even 32 instead of 16 bit)What are the benefits?

Over sampling helps to reconstruct final better audio signal from a DAC

1. Oversampling does help to reconstruct better audio signal as it improves anti-aliasing performance, increase resolution, and reduce noise.

2. In terms of sampling frequency, "Hi-Res" music (anything higher than 44k) is an example of oversampling (as in theory, only 44kHz is required). It happens during the ADC process. From point 1 above, it would help to regenerate better audio signal, hence, better music.

3. In terms of bit depth, "Hi-Res" music use more than 16 bit. It helps to reduce Quantization#Noise) error. it would help to regenerate better audio signal, hence, better music.

4. The purpose for using "Hi-Res" input is not for its ability to reconstruct signal outside the audible range. It is just a by-product. Yes, based on sampling theory, we can use 768k sampling to reconstruct signal with frequencies up to 384k but again, this is not what we needed.

5. Hi-Res industry used the by-product I mentioned in point 4 above as a marketing material when they initially pushed for SACD. It caused people who knows about the audible frequency range to consider Hi-Res music as snake oil (but it is not snake oil for other reasons stated above)

I don't want to go too deep about all the benefits here as it is extremely technical. If you really want to know. Let me know, see if I can help further.

(updated 29 April 2024, I saw this on facebook: Hi-Res Audio Hi Res: Why higher sample rates sound better and what you can do about it Facebook )

p.s.: Sigh... looks like one more guy (who asked the question above) was somehow convinced by the misleading info....

=========== Follow up ===========

update 28 Apri 2024:

that person was eventually banned for that thread as he was rising some concerns with his critical thinking. As stated in my other blog, "psueduo science hates critical thinking"; they cannot co-exist.

2024.05.17 00:47 Tall-Tax-4170 A diagnosis of pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV)

I have finally received a diagnosis of pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV, also called idiopathic CNVM, polypoidal CNV and choroidal neovascularization in other places). And I have something very interesting to report as an observation for potential treatment. But first a bit of history:
When I was 24 and very weakened with sprue after travelling overland from Australia to London, I had what was then called a detached retina and spent some weeks in London Eye Hospital before flying home to recover. Fast forward, and 3 years ago, aged 73, I observed a growing fuzzy grey spot in the centre of my vision, worse in low light, in the same eye that was affected years ago. This was diagnosed as AMD (acute macular degeneration) and treated with Eylea VEGF (aflibercept) injections monthly, which rapidly reduced the sub-retinal fluid leakage problem although by then I had lost the yellow register and some light-gathering ability in that eye. But I was not happy with the diagnosis and sought a second opinion - by the time I got a second diagnosis, my first eye surgeon had changed his views to match mine and the professor concurred, I had central serous retinopathy CSR. This was good news because that disease may run a course and stabilise, unlike regressive AMD.
Still the Eylea injections continued monthly for 2 years and I was unable to lengthen the time between them. Eventually I had read the science and started saffron capsules daily and got out to 6 weeks. Then I went trekking in Nepal and came back apparently without any need for a further injection. Had the CSR run its course? Or was it taking Diamox (acetazolamide) for altitude acclimatisation (there is some scientific evidence for this), or hard effort at altitude? Or some other factor?
At this stage my trusted eye surgeon suggested that I had PNV and did not require further Eylea injections, but after about 4 months I observed some lack of focus and received another Eylea shot which did not improve matters at all. It was clear that my vision was deteriorating and I was becoming very concerned at the rate of loss in that eye.
And here is the observation: 4 weeks after the last Eylea injection I started taking 200-400mg of magnesium supplement a day for a totally unrelated tendon issue. Within 24 hours my vision had improved. Within a week I had gone up an entire line on the eyechart. My eye surgeon did a dilated scan and said he had never seen such a clear retina in a PNV case - there appeared to be no sub-retinal fluid at all and even reduced drusen where it had been before prior to the last Eylea injection.
I am largely vegan although in Nepal we had to eat eggs and a lot of other foods that we do not normally eat, although not meat. Could that have increased my magnesium intake and caused the marked improvement I observed?
I would love to hear from others about this, particularly if you have a similar diagnosis and even more so if you try a magnesium supplement!

2024.05.17 00:41 Americanboi824 EURN DD

I'm trying to get WSB to accept this (for some reason they think EURN is a microcap), but in the meantime I'm posting here.
TLDR: A Europoor tanker business is absolutely printing money to the point that they’re planning to give shareholders dividends/distributions worth 25% of the stock price AND they just bought back millions of shares…. And even after this the company will still be in a great position to make future profits
Euronav is a tanker and one of the few good stocks I’ve invested in because I heard about it on WSB. Tankers carry heavy stuff from one place to another and get paid for that. Because there isn’t a whole lot of room for growth tankers tend to have a very low P/E ratio, and Euronav uses those profits to send dividends to their investors.
Since I’ve invested in 2020 price go up a lot and I’ve gotten like 30% of my initial investment back in dividends. I think stonk continue to go up and there will be more dividends.
Here’s the thing- the clusterkerfuffle in the Red Sea is causing tanker rates to skyrocket, and in addition to the significant cash on hand that Euronav has this is a recipe for continuous high dividends and for the company to continue to be worth at least what it is right now.
Euronav trades for 19.50 a share atm… and they just announced a distribution (not dividend) for $4.57, IN ADDITION TO A POTENTIAL DIVIDEND OF 1.15 TO BE PAID AFTER! I had to double and triple check this to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding something basic (I am on WSB after all), but if this dividend is approved at this board meeting (a formality), they will literally be sending 1/4th of the share price back to stock holders.
The price of the stock will fall by the amount of the dividend/distribution, but with continuous favorable conditions for shipping and with the company being in a great position overall (with liquidity, order for new boats, etc.) I think that the stock price should rebound and relatively quickly, too.
This is getting into some geopolitical analysis, but I think that the Houthis are both pretty strong (by insane person militia terms) and that they will continue to play epic pranks like shutting down international shipping lanes, so I think that tanker prices will stay high in the future. Since EURN gives a lot of dividends to investors this means we’ll be getting lots of money back.
Downsides/Risks:
Because Euronav is a Belgium company and they made the AlphaChad move to actually incorporate in Belgium instead of the Bahamas or the Canary Islands or wherever investors are subject to withholding for Belgium taxes. If you make enough money you can get your withheld taxes back, but since we’re on WSB I doubt anyone will have enough money to apply for that credit… so the dividends (but not distributions!) you get will be subject to additional taxes. The dividends and stock movement have been so good that it’s still been worth it to hold Euronav for me, but this is a consideration. It’s also worth noting that most of the upcoming payments are distributions, and thus have favorable tax treatment with no withholding.
Euronav has cooled off before, like they did in 2022. It didn’t lost much of its market cap, but the dividends fell to almost 0.
Also I started writing this a week or so ago but put off finishing it… and in the meantime the stock has run up a bit. I still think this is a good stonk moving forward but it’s probably closer to its actual value now. I also posted about it months ago in a mostly dead tangergang sub https://www.reddit.com/TankerGang/comments/1an4zig/eurn/.
You probably should not buy calls since the dividend/distribution will make the price fall on the ex-dividend date.
Positions: 262 Shares (worth like 5k). This post is not investment advice, I'm pretty dumb so invest at your own risk.

2024.05.17 00:39 andrewsinclair Gas grill buying advice: infrared (Solaire) or not (DCS)?

I find most gas grills are underpowered for browning / searing. My current grill (pictured) is 28" and has three tube burners totaling 35,000 BTUs/h. I am looking to upgrade.
I have some particular space / sizing constraints, and I've narrowed my options down to two 30" grills: a DCS grill rated at 50,000 BTUs/h and a Solaire infrared grill rated at 55,000 BTUs/h.
The Solaire grill is 51% more expensive than the DCS.
Question: can I get a great sear on steaks (reverse sear), charred bits on marinated chicken, and deep crust on smash burgers (using cast iron or stainless steel griddle) on the 50k BTU 30" DCS grill? Or should I go all out for the Solaire infrared?
The DCS has hollow ceramic rods that are heated by the traditional burners to radiate heat up to the food. I wonder if that has a similar effect to an infrared burner?
I'm looking for a restaurant quality cook. I just searched up some commercial charbroilers with a similar sizes to these grills and they're rated at 75k-100k BTUs!

2024.05.17 00:38 nottherapist Talk me off the metaphorical cliff

Our retrieval was completed this following Sunday. Some background info we have MFI and low AMH. We were aware we'd have not many eggs retrieved, that being said we were thrilled to get 4 eggs!! Clinic called and said 3 were mature and successfully fertilized. Our transfer is tomorrow afternoon but my clinic doesn't do many updates. I'm fully convinced they'll call in the morning to cancel because we have no embryos left 😞 knowing the attrition rate I'm trying to remain positive.
Does anyone have success stories to keep me a bit sane today?

2024.05.17 00:37 Galaxy_the_nightwing First Impressions part 76

First Previous Next

{Sorry for the late post. I had some trouble with my scheduled summer semester pop up so I wasn't able to write this out as much as I wanted last weekend. Anyways, enjoy the domestic fluff of Damian and his newly expanded flock :) }

-----Damian-----
"The next one's simple. Say their name then (sit). Like this: Braxton, (sit)." As Damian said the command he raised his hand to around shoulder height and snapped. The Great Dane in question slowly sat with his usual amount of sass. Ree cooed in awe and Scales' eyes sparkled. Damian smiled as he pats the large dog's head with praise.
"(Good boy). Ok, you two. Your turns. Make sure to say the commands in English. I haven't taught them Common yet." He motioned to the dogs Damian picked for the two to learn the commands with. It took Damian a bit of trial and error figuring out what commands each dog knew and what ones had different commands for the same motion. Then it took even longer to retrain them to all follow the same commands. He kept in mind the 'specialized' commands for a few of the dogs and didn't try teaching them to the whole group. Ree tried the command he was teaching them first, his dog being Diesel.
"Trii-cheiu, (sit)." Ree raised his wing-arm, though he couldn’t snap he still did the gesture. The boxer he was talking to blankly tilted his head. Damian chuckled and helped out the bird, knowing they all tend to have problems pronouncing new words without a chirp to them.
"You pronounced his name wrong, he doesn't know you're talking to him. It's more like 'Dee-sell'. The 's' is sharp enough it is almost pronounced as a 'z'." Ree practiced a few times as Scales took her try. She pronounced her dog's name a bit slow, but it was recognizable.
"D-ing-oh, (sit)." The stocky dog hesitated, glancing at Damian for a few seconds, but eventually plopped down then panted in a smile imitation. Scales' tail wagged violently, and she wordlessly cooed and trilled happily. Dingo didn't yet understand that was praise so Damian jumped in really quick to let her know she did good.
"Good girl, Dingo! Good girl!" He made sure to over exaggerate his excitement and made wide happy gestures before smothering the dog in pets and scratches. Dingo goes wild. She jumps up, bounces around a few times, then bolts into excited zoomies. A few of the other dogs joined in on the zoomies. Ree tried again on his command.
"Dee-zell, (sit)." The boxer's cropped ears perked and he promptly sat. Before Damian could, Ree copied his bigwing's previous praising and flared his wings. "Good! Good boy!" He praised, overly happy. Diesel's whole body perked up and he jumped up, landed in a playbow, then spun a few times before joining in on the zoomies with a butt-tuck run when Damian smooched at him. Damian laughed at the zooming dogs and shuffled over to be closer to his chicks, just in case the dogs tried to do fly-bys.
"Good job, you two. We're almost completely through the basic commands. I didn't think we'd get through them this quickly." His chicks cooed, trilled, and wiggled happily at the praise. Damian chuckled and rubbed their feathered heads, making a few bits of baby-fluff fall off as he drew back. He played with the few bits stuck to his fingers and watched his chicks play with the dogs as they started to wrestle. All of the dogs were bigger than them, if only slightly, but they were gentle when letting the chicks join in.
As they played he looked over them. They had changed a lot in the last month or so since the disaster of their first flying lesson. In that time, they had a few more lessons and were almost completely capable of flight, they still had a bit of supervision when they did though. They had lost almost all of their baby-fluff and their adult plumage was sported on the vast majority of their bodies. They still had to shed the last bits of fluff and a few of their baby-scales but that wouldn't take much longer. Damian was still taken with their coloring and patterns. And often found himself studying them over and over like he used to with their parents when he first got here.
Ree was a slightly grey-tinted shade of green with his scales slowly getting darker the higher they went. His stomach was a dirt brown color with a more red-ish clay spot on his chest. All his plumage was a light orage-ish brown color and he had speckles of more pastel green under his right eye and in a clump on his left jaw. His beak took the coloring of Blueberry's, a near-black color, but had the shape of Ruby's. His ears took after Violet's, long and pointed like a stretched fox's. His feathers and fur were more pressed down and made him look slimmer overall. His eyes changed from their baby brown-gold color to a beautiful sky blue.
Scales, on the other hand, had the coloring more towards a bumble bee (from what he remembered anyways). Her main coloring was a bright sunshine yellow that slowly grew more towards orange towards her underbelly and beak. On her chest was a splash-like clump of pink feathers. Her scales were less than her brother's and were a deep brown-ish color. The feathers and fur edging them were a deep enough brown to basically be black. Her plumage reminded him somewhat of Ruby and Sky's. It had a gradual fade towards the end like Sky but the pink-ish color of Ruby. She had near-neon yellow speckles too, like her brother, but the clumps were a bit larger. She had them ending on her wing-forearms like Violet's and a big clump scattered around the left side of her face. Her feathers weren't quite as fluffy as Sky's but was pretty close. Her beak had the shape of Violet's and the near-white tan color of Ruby's. Her eyes had a beautiful dual color in each eye. The top majority was a hot pink/magenta color while the bottom and inside edge was more of a petal/pastel pink.
Both were gorgeous and made Damian wonder how the genetics of their species worked to allow that vast difference in coloration and patterns when compared to all four of their parents, who tended to be different shades of the same color throughout. Ree had finally slowed his quite concerning growth rate and was starting to level out around Damian's upper thigh/lower hip, exceeding the taller of his fathers by quite the margin. All four of his parents telling him that Ree was probably one of the largest of their species in multiple generations. Scales was now barely a third of her brother's size, if that, having evened out just barely shorter than Damian's knee. Apparently that was a bit shorter than average for the species with Ruby being more towards the upper part of the average size and Sky being borderline short.
A demanding snort drew his attention away from his chicks and to the window he claimed as 'his spot' so long ago (was it really only just over one of his years since he was brought here?). There he found Casper lazily curled and dozing on the floor with Ares propped up against her where Damian had set him to nap while he taught his chicks. Said child was no longer asleep though. He was very much awake and staring Damian down with an expression demanding to know why he thought it was a good idea to even dare to set him down and walk away. Nevermind Damian wasn't even ten steps away. Ares snorted demandingly at him again and glared harder at the human's amused snort back. Damian did walk over though and picked up the child when he raised his arms at him. Ares had changed a bit too over the month Damian had him. He'd filled out to a more healthy-looking weight, though he was still a bit thin, and Damian had finally managed to memorize how to properly trim the toddler's hooves and brush out his fur.
Ares still had the bird-like plush and brought it nearly everywhere with him. Said plush was now being whacked into the side of Damian's head. Apparently, Ares decided being held wasn't good enough and wanted something else. Damian tried blocking the hits or holding the toy, but the little brat only started using his hooves in his growing tantrum. Getting tired of being hit with no explanation, Damian took the advice of one of the texts he'd read about taking care of a Grongri child and yanked Ares away from him by his scruff to hang in mid-air. The toddler wiggled and squirmed to try and hit him more but eventually the tantrum dimmed, and he went limp, a small pout on his face.
"You ready to tell me what's wrong now?" He asked the child before he cradled him again. He'd only made that mistake once. He still had the bruises to prove it. Ares glumly flicked his right ear down (which he's learned is a non-verbal yes), pout still present. Damian finally cradled the toddler to his chest again and let him sniffle and bury against him in self-comfort until he was ready to talk. Damian glanced back at his chicks to see them flopped on the ground with the other dogs, all panting and exhausted by the play. Damian chuckled at them, earning an irritated crow from Scales. Damian snorted in amusement but let them be. Ares was finally willing to tell him what was wrong.
"Want learn too." Ares' understanding of both Common and English has come a long way in the past month. He still can't string a proper sentence together, but Damian can't tell if that is because of a lack of knowledge or just because he's a toddler. He has adjusted to the flock a bit too. With it being so different from the usual Grongri Sounder structure it is understandable. He does have a few hiccups here and there but now he mostly just watches the chicks' reaction to things when he is unsure.
"'Learn too'? You wanna learn how to command the dogs too?" Damian questions, making sure he had the same idea. Ares' ear flicked again while he nodded. Damian hugged him a bit closer.
"You're a bit too small for the dogs to obey you immediately but I can introduce one to you and have you start trying. How about that? Will that work?" Ares was quiet for a bit longer but eventually agreed. Damian smiled and praised him with a few pets, receiving a few happy rumbles in response. Damian glanced around at the dogs, trying to pick one for Ares to start working on. He doesn't think any would follow the commands without his own help but if he worked on one long enough it would eventually cave. His eye landed on Casper, who was still in the same curled position as before. She was the most maternal of the group and was the one who took to the children the easiest and quickest.
"Ok, little piglet. Let's start easy." He said as he set the runt down on his hooves. As he did he got Casper's attention and called to her. "Casper. (Stand)." The large white wolfdog looked at him then crawled to her paws. He praised her softly then turned back to Ares.
"Ok. We'll start with (come). Say her name, Casper, and tell her to (come)." He said as he sat down next to where the toddler stood. Ares' little hooves stomped a bit in his excitement, but he tried. He tested out the new word before he did. What he settled on wasn't the right pronunciation, but it was close. He could mostly pronounce the command correctly too, though with a pretty heavy accent.
"Gas-prrrr. (Come)." Casper tilted her head at the child and sniffed at him. She looked at Damian and he looked to Ares then back. Casper followed and glanced, then back. Ares deflated eventually when she still didn't approach so Damian thought up something quickly.
"Maybe she doesn't understand your accent. Try this," He patted the ground, "when you say it. She knows that gesture." Ares perked back up again.
"Okie!" He turned back to Casper and tried again. "Gas-prrrr." He crouched down and clumsily patted the ground like only a toddler could. "(Come)." Casper's ears perked but she still hesitated for a second before slowly padding over and stopping right in front of the child. Ares squealed in excitement, tail going wild and hooves stomping. Damian made his chuff-imitation as praise for the child as he pets Casper to do the same. Child happier now, he figures he could take the kid away for lunch without protest. Scooping up the toddler he received no complaint.
Looking to his chicks he clicked his tongue. He learned that was a good way to gain their attention with zero hesitation, no matter what they were doing. He found out by complete accident, to be honest. He was clicking at the dogs from a habit that hasn't broken despite the years away from the farm he grew up on. Sure enough, just like every time before, both chick's heads immediately whip up to look at him. Both still looked groggy like they had just woken up. They probably had.
"C'mon, you two. Lunch time." The two groaned but climbed to their feet. Damian smiled and them and patted them as they passed. Once they were well on their way, he called the dogs and gathered them as he left behind his chicks. The dogs happily trailed after, excited after they heard the word 'hungry' when he asked. He entered the flock's kitchen, pack in tow, only a handful of minutes later. He had to take a slightly more roundabout way over since some of the dogs hadn’t quite figured out the ladder-like walkways and ramps yet and he didn't want them to fall through and get hurt. His birds greeted him with their usual trills and Untruthful with their latest attempt at teasing.
"So, the Pack Master finally decided to grace us with his presence!" Damian let them know it was a good one by sending a tease back.
"I see you haven't gotten any less spikey yet, walking pincushion." Untruthful's eyes slowly shut in a smile and Damian sent one of his own back, momentarily closing his eyes in an imitation of them. Untruthful looked surprised then they eye-close-smiled harder, spike-crest wiggling their excitement. Damian chuckled at them and set down Ares in his make-shift baby seat.
He chatted with Violet as he grabbed and rationed out the dogs' small lunch. He ignored the protesting whines, grunts, and half-barks urging him to 'go faster already'. Violet advised him to use one type of meat instead of another because of both better nutrients for the dogs and there being more of it. He thanked her and did as told. The dogs' lunch wasn't that big, more of a snack than anything, but it kept them from pouting and begging when everyone else ate. It also had helped him give them meds when they were still healing. They were mostly fine now, apparently Galactic Standard medicine works faster than the stuff he remembers. Finishing with the dogs' food he picks up the bowls, stacking a few to do so, and turns around. He walked past the dogs, chuckling at the excited spins, bounces, and tippy-taps they did as they followed him. He glanced back at them once he made it to the wall the flock had designated as their eating area.
He gave them a stern look and waited. They all eventually sat down, some more slow and reluctant than others. Once they did he placed down the bowls in the designated spots. Braxton and Casper had two stepstool-stand things he placed their bowls on because of how big they were. Once all the bowls were down he turned to look at the dogs. He waited in silence for a bit, snapping or humming warningly whenever one tried to shuffle forward. Once he deemed it long enough he gave the sort-of-command he was on the tail end of teaching them.
"(Ok)." When he said that all six dogs ran over to their bowls and started to eat. Damian strode back over to the counter and helped his birds move some plates to the table then settled cross-legged in his usual spot, Ares immediately crawling into his lap and Scales fluttering to perch on the shoulder opposite the side her brother sat on. The flock started to grab food and eat as they chatted with each other. Damian grabbed a little more than a double portion of fruits, beans (or maybe they were berries?), and a few crunchy finger foods he thinks may be cooked or specially prepared insects. He grabbed roughly more than a single portion (for someone his size anyways) of meats, the few root vegetables presented, and what he thinks may be foods made of bone pieces.
Once his plate was full he placed it down in front of him he reached over to grab a smaller plate and started making that one with tiny portions, letting his three kids have free pickings of his plate as he did. When he finished that plate he sat it in front of mini, receiving a grateful squeak before she dug in. He then propped his arms on the table, completely ignoring both his plate and the children stealing from it as he chattered on with his flock. By the time everyone finished his kids had their fill and were starting to fall asleep like usual after eating.
As his flock started gathering their dishes and the extra food on the table, Damian glanced at what was left of his plate. He made a mental note of how there weren’t as much leftovers as before and to grab bigger portions for dinner. As his flock started to disperse he looked to the dogs and said one of the first new commands he taught them.
"(Pups)." He got their attention. "(Take)." He ordered as he lifted up the half-asleep toddler on his lap. The dogs made whisper-boofs to show they heard and the largest three walked over to pick up the kids by their scruffs. Casper (the biggest, though not my much) grabbed Ree, Braxton grabbed Ares, and Dingo walked over to carefully lift Scales from his shoulder. Once they had a firm grip, they looked to Damian for further instruction.
"(To bed)" He directed as he pointed out the door they came from. The pack turned and left him alone in the room. He sighed to himself once he couldn't hear them anymore and looked back at the leftovers on the plate before him. It was maybe under half a portion for his size, probably less. He glanced at the counters and saw all the leftover food was already put up. He could go grab more but even half a portion for him would be nearly three or four large portions for his flock. No. It wasn’t worth it. He'll just grab more tonight.
He ate the leftovers in silence. Since he's got the dogs his head has been a bit quieter, though not silent. Apparently he was still enough for the building to register the room as empty, and the lights cut out. He blinked and paused at the sudden darkness but there was barely a second of blindness before some of his voices put their hands on his mental controls, giving his eyes a boost of minor night vision. It wasn’t much better than his natural amount of it but it helped. He decided not to go turn on the lights again and continued to eat his food as he peacefully listened to the soft chattering of his voices.

2024.05.17 00:36 AwkwardCouple6057 I think my neighbor shot him?

I think my neighbor shot him?
But the puss has been worse and so has the bleeding now than day one. The pictures are all in order as well from day 1 to now. Any advice for caring for his wound or what other supplies I need or even what this could be. And how to care for his swollen other paw maybe hot n cold compress? I took some cotton balls in warm epson salt and let that soak then dried his paw, he seemed less fussy after that. I am still trying to raise money for him, so please be understanding that I’m trying my best. He was not even really my cat but I guess now he is, he has been so understanding and patient he has not bit or hissed at me at all which breaks my heart even more.

2024.05.17 00:31 JayD8888 Daily Weapon Discussion Day 5: The Mako 1895 Carbine

Daily Weapon Discussion Day 5: The Mako 1895 Carbine
Howdy Hunters!
Im very grateful for all the support and kind messages you keep sending me. Thats makes this all very fun to do! It is because of this that im also able to provide some quality of life upgrade today. From now on all posts will feature a table at the bottum where you can quickly navigate to weapons that were covered in earlier posts. Huge shoutout to u/xTekek for the idea and help with setting it up!
Now onto the weapon for today. After all the classics we covered in the last couple days i thought it would be fun to look into a weapon that was added relatively recently to Hunt, the Mako Carbine!
I got the impression that people disliked or didnt see the surpose of the Mako when it was first added. However that sentiment seems to be turning around. I for one really like this rifle. Lets look at what it has to offer.
The Mako is a 3 slot, long ammo levering rifle that was added in the most recent event (Desolations Wake) along with its claw and aperture variant. Each of which can take explosive or FMJ ammo instead of regular long ammo.
The base gun is a long ammo rifle that competes with the lebel, krag, berthier and mosin for that long range option. Althought it doesnt seem very standout for its price, i think its a nice package that is a bit of a jack of all trades. The damage is high enough to redown at 128. It fires quite fast and has a really clean animation with iron eye (Its only barely slower than the krag and significantly faster than all the others. The tooltips in game are big fat lies so dont look at those!). The iron sights are very nice and the velocity is ok. That last one isnt really something to write home about but ive not really felt like it caused me to miss shots.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this gun though is that you can lever it! Its not super accurate, but when someone is close and you need a lot of firepower really fast i think its actually quite an alright option. Especially when standing still you can still be reasonable accurate up to about 15 meters and massively increase your dps by just tap firing from the hip as opposed to aiming and shooting.
As for ammo options i usually just stick to regular long ammo with all guns that have it, but lets talk about the others One of my friends really loves explosive, so when you read this, im sorry if i upset you! But unfortunately its not very good. damage is lower overall and the higher you hit the less damage the explosion does, because the damage increases the closer to the feet it hits. its also not very strong vs bosses and can be a hazard to yourself at close ranges or when near barrels.
FMJ also doesnt really offer all that much imo. you lose even more velocity. Something the Mako already struggles with and the added penetration and reduced damage falloff is very minimal. It also makes resupplying ammo harder than it already is.
The claw variant is the same as the base gun, except it has a claw on it. Do keep in mind that it only applies to the LIGHT attack and not the heavy! That means the light deals more damage than the heavy and applies bleed, but has very poor reach. Its not adding very much imo, but its also not much more expensive. I dont really have strong feelings about this one.
Finally the aperture is just a better mako for only a small premium. The aperture sight is fine i guess if you need to hit a long range shot, but i just flip it down most of the time and enjoy the reduced sway because that still applies. I mostly take this version if im running a Mako. Its really nice.
For sidearms i usually pair it with anything that is good at close range. New army, nagant officer and spitfire are usually the go-to's. With quartermaster a lot more options open up though.
Finally for traits i would say get iron eye. The benefit to fire rate isnt huge (only 11%) but the animation is so clean that its easy to stay on target. As stated before levering works on this weapon and if you have the point i would pick it up. However its not something i prioritize early. Other than that you can pick up steady aim if you use the aperture version. This gun doesnt need bulletgrubber, so thats a nice bonus vs some of its competitors.
And btw can we just appreciate how great the skins for it are from the last battlepass!
Ok thats me signing off. Happy chatting and until tomorrow!

2024.05.17 00:25 BluebirdNo3434 In Search of a Long-Term YouTube Editor (funny, feminist, reliable)

Hi!
I am a content creator with a quickly growing youtube channel and looking for someone to edit 1-3 videos a week for me. It would be about 1.5-2 hours of footage I would be sending your way, that would just need to be narrowed down to about 45 minutes.
I don't need anything fancy like graphics or music, or subtitles since my audience puts on my videos in the background (like a podcast). The footage is just of me talking, so doesn't require much. I typically do a tiny bit of color correcting, and audio correcting --then just start hacking away at the footage. I make my own thumbnails and everything too.
Here is what I'm looking for:
-someone who knows internet humomemes. I like my videos to be pretty simple editing wise, but definitely fast paced and witty and I make a ton of internet references. So if you wanted to throw in a reference, or jump zoom, or sound effect to make it funnier--by all means, be my guest, lol
-someone reliable with a decent turn around time who is looking for a long term gig
-also, full disclosure I am an extremely feminist, liberal, outspoken gay woman who talks frequently in her videos about human rights, politics, queer topics, and mental health. So definitely someone who is on the same page as me.
-someone who can color correct my footage to make it look warm and full of color (but not too oversaturated)
-someone who can correct my audio (to get rid of as much fuzz, background noise as possible without making my voice sound robotic)
-someone who can help me cut out as many "like"s and "um"s and dead space in general as possible, also anything that's boring or repetitive (I tend to ramble)
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, feel free to DM me with your rate and some examples you might have 😊. Would love to find a long term editor to stick with me through this journey!

2024.05.17 00:19 ArgentinianFeminist I am panicking

I everyone. I have had an endometrioma inside my ovary for two years now. It is rather small, no more than 30mm. I am taking birth control and it even got a little bit smaller. I have been checking it constantly with doppler ecos and everything’s been smooth.
Recently a friend of mine told me she was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and an endometrioma cyst. Her doctor told her that her egg quality was worse than avarege bc of the endometriosis, bc apparently endometriosis makes your eggs less-fertile or smth like that.
My doctors have always told me that I would not have fertility issues, and that I should not be worried. Both my gynecologist and surgeon told me this.
I am extremely worried that my fertility rate is affected now. I am 23, I am not sure if I should freeze eggs, worry or not.
Any advice?
