2024.05.15 08:41 jpd2979 Regarding bots...

I use a bot. Lots of people do. I'm of the opinion that it's not unethical, when the CEO of this company could definitely pay his workers far above the pay grade to do this job. Amazon is always in the news for their corporate work culture. So if you're going to lecture people on Reddit (which is so big and tough of you) about how we're all cheaters, no offense, but f*** you.
I also think it's absurd that Amazon would just now start to crackdown on bots. Partially bc they know those of us who use them get paid and keep working for them. What probably happened is recently they may have noticed a surge in the amount of people getting above base pay, and much like online piracy, they crackdown on a few accounts, make an example out of those people, and they'll go right back to looking the other way once it's contained...
Amazon could easily write a script and prevent surges in pay to discourage bot usage. But they don't. All I've learned from getting this stupid email is now I'll have to be smarter about using the bot and I can no longer run it 24/7 anymore and I've already had people give me tips and pointers.
This was true for me at Amazon back when I was a driver for them at a DSP. They deliberately try to scare you into thinking you're going to get fired but then they never actually fire you. They'll be reminding us we could easily be replaced by people on a wait list. But go head! Cancel all surges, purge all "cheating" employees, and admit a fuck ton of people on the wait-list. So you just got rid of a bunch of formerly loyal employees and replaced them with people who are brand new and need to be trained. And they're seeing other courier apps openly offering $30 hourly gigs where no bot is required... And all the Karen's out in suburbia want their essential oils delivered to them same day. Have fun with that strategy, Amazon!
So I'm just gonna live my life the way I always have. Treating every job as temporary. Knowing each and every day, there's always more of us than there are of them. Stay classy, y'all and make that money, hustle and grind. Those r muh thoughts on the matter! ✌️

2024.05.15 08:37 Throwaway122258 21F [F4M] EST/Anywhere Looking for forever

Hi! I’m 21F, American, looking for men ~21-25. I’m average height and slim- I consider myself conventionally attractive. I prefer men on the taller side and thin to athletic. Not a smokesubstance use drinker and looking for the same (social drinking is OK). I am an atheist and not looking for someone religious. I’m also not super political. My time zone is EST but open to LDR with the right person.
I’ve been out of college and currently working a corporate job. Seeking someone driven in his education, career, and finances. I am heavily family oriented and value stability- marriage and kids, a good education, etc. and leaning more traditional in this regard. I value reliability, openness, generosity, and kindness- to me, actions and consistency are key. All the love languages are important to me but Acts of Service is my #1.
In my free time I like to bake, paint, eat out, shop, and video game (looking for my player 2!). Generally lean more towards being a homebody for solo plans but enjoy going out with friends to eat, shop, salon, etc. I also love to travel and hope to see as much of the world as I can. And of course when I’m in a relationship I want to spend as much time as I can with that person :)
I value my time and don’t want to waste anyone else’s, either- DM me if you’re interested.

2024.05.15 08:36 kinkykeyframes I've decided to move on from my crush because I don't think she's interested in me after trying for months, this is my confession to her: She's the most beautiful woman with the most stunning eyes.

Right now I am sitting on my chair. That’s just the introductory line. Where I am right now doesn’t matter. But so you know I've got my laptop before me and SLANDER - Love Is Gone via my headphones, my notes app is open to write about you, but the more I think about it, the harder it seems to write. So I’m not going to make anything up, I’m going to tell you what keeps me awake at night.
when I am just getting ready for relationships I am exploring, talking, and texting a lot of women out there, and you are one among them, never did I know that you would be the one closest to what I call my type of woman.
First of all, you are such a bad girl, you look pretty bad. You look beautiful…How perfect your body is. I wanted to talk to you like soo fucking bad, and for several months I used to stalk you and search for you in places where you are most often seen.
"Love" is dangerous, the last time I was in love it broke me and tore me apart, so I made sure I never fell in love without much consideration.
So I considered three phases before I fell in love with someone to start a relationship.
Phase 1: Chemistry/spark- this happens when you look at someone randomly at a party, it's the first impression. This is purely based on looks, you only approach someone if their looks are good, this is the first initiation process it depends on looks. Sometimes it's based on skills and talent. Chemistry happens with anyone it's not that special. but it's necessary to take things further.
I believe we have this chemistry or spark between us. we fuck each other with our eyes, I do enjoy this a lot. Your eyes are just awesome, I can look into them all day long, it's breathtaking.
Phase 2: The Connection- this is about the time spent together, over a period you see each other at parties, college, and hangouts. At this stage, you don't know each of you on a deeper level, but spend a lot of time together.
I made several attempts to get to know you better but you were always reluctant. I asked you if I could pick you up from your lab but you overlooked my messages. I tried to see you several times and talk to you in person, but you avoided it, I am not complaining but I respect your decision to ignore someone whom you dont like or dont have the mood to associate with in any regard. We never really had a connection, and My attempts to get to know you better failed miserably.
Phase 3: Compatibility - when you know you can take things to the next level with this person. You talk about your long-term goals and see if both of your goals and values align. Now you are ready to confess to her and ask her out.
we never really had a connection so there is no point in thinking about compatibility when there is no connection.
I remember when you spoke about how you wanted to get married at 28 lead a happy life as a government employee, and eventually end up as a homemaker. And I do respect how you want to live your life. Even my mom is a homemaker. I also believe that you are very talented and the fact that you wanted to settle for a government job is a much smaller target you kept for yourself since you are more capable of being a more independent and successful woman. You are ambitious, if you focus your energy in a direction you will become much more successful than you think. Just pick something that you love to do and keep doing it, You do have a great fashion sense, There were days I just wanted to come to Food Street to look at your outfit, have you ever thought of becoming a model? maybe on Instagram? you should consider having a public Instagram profile for yourself and upload content though you surely will rock.
Remember when I grabbed your hands to look at your watch? When I think about your sensual touch, the passion and desire I felt burned like a fucking fire within me. Sometimes the intense desire to hold you, just for the sheer joy of feeling you against me, is overwhelming. Sometimes I imagine going up against the wall with you or maybe I wanted my face between your legs. This is what keeps me up at night lol. But trust me my ultimate goal is to not have sex with you or kiss you or get physically intimate with you. I was physically intimate with a lot of women in the past without actually loving them, so it's baseless to just wanting someone for sex, when you can find any prostitute out there, I usually sexualize a lot about my crushes. What matters more to me are chemistry connection, and compatibility.
Everybody knows that I am deeply crushing on you but the thing is I never really rush into relationships. I am not desperate. Today I am just attracted to you but I never really love you in any regard, what I call you is "my crush".
I wish I could spend more time with you, which you didn't allow me to.
Even before I met you in person, I believed that I was out of your league, at least you made me feel like it by ghosting me. I am not complaining about it tho, because I know How I look.
I just wanted to tell you that if there is one thing that I am proud of about myself is that I know myself. So I know how I look. I wanted to let you know that
  1. I am not sexy with my looks, you look much more sexier and hotter than me. So I know my position in your life, I am mindful of what I say to you, although I was never insecure about my looks whenever I am with you because I am working on myself and my skin it's a slow process. at least for me, I believe that I am good enough for anyone with my skills.
  2. There are a lot of things that are sexy about me, which is something that very few people know, my friends and my family know how I am and what my personality is, how ambitious I am, and how big I dream, how well I speak, my skill sets, my maturity levels. You never know me as a person on a deeper level. Unfortunately, we never really spent time together to get to know each of us better since you were not interested in me in the first place, and I respect that opinion of you about me. Although you never really told me that you were not interested in me your actions do !!
After all my failed attempts to talk to you and get to know you better, I decided to move on from you because it's absolutely hopeless of me to think about someone, when they are not into me in any way, And the main reason of this email is to let you know that I really do enjoy when you look at me and fuck me with your eyes but it also gives me false hopes, why are you looking at me when you are not into me in any way?
Everyone's life is short I will keep moving on and explore other woman at college, and I don't want you to give me false hopes in any way. I really do respect you for who you are, My intention is not to accuse you of something, I really do love my life and I deserve someone who loves me and who invests their time in me like the way I do.
I hope you get that.

2024.05.15 08:35 yoitsmariesmind there’s hope, coming from someone who had multiple rock bottoms

i just wanted to share my recent success because i want YOU to know that there is hope. I posted on here about a year ago discussing how i couldn’t see a path to success with a bipolar diagnosis. I was deep in the “pit” and hopeless but searching. Now i am working two jobs with ease and enthusiam, engaged to the love of my life, closer than ever to my family, pursuing my passions, and generally so happy and motivated. I can say with 100% confidence that this is all due to medication, sobriety, and finding something to believe in (for me that’s having a relationship with Jesus, but I strongly encourage you to find any higher power that you feel comfortable with). These three things seemed impossible and not necessary but now i see that they were the key to my success.
If you read this far, know there is hope. My dms are always open for anything and anyone. sending love to you <3

2024.05.15 08:35 abcedeee BPO for college student

Hello! As the title says, I'm looking for a BPO company to work for as a college student and start during our school break. But the thing is, I don't have any work experience. Pwede ba magparefer or what? Paano makapasok, if anyone can help? Or are there any other jobs na hindi kailangan ng on-site work sana, pero kung hindi, pwede naman ako mag on-site. However, I still prefer to work from home annd have a non-voice position. But anything open will do as long as I can get a job, plus it's student-friendly. Also, looking for tips na rin on interviews and requirements in applying.

2024.05.15 08:22 FormalGrade2142 Husband levelled up and I feel insecure

My husband (24m) and I (24f) have been together for 4 years and married for 1.5 and we have a three month old daughter. We got married as soon as he graduated university and started his first ever full-time job. I didn’t go to university and worked as a nail tech at a salon. When we got married, our combined salary was just enough to pay our rent and other expenses in a small apartment. I found out I was pregnant a few months after our wedding and when I told my husband we were going to be parents, he fundamentally changed overnight.
He started doing more certifications, more learning, and more networking and was able to land a job that paid more than double his first job despite only working full-time for six months. He also started a side business that is doing very well. Pretty soon, we were able to get a mortgage and buy a much better home for us and our coming baby. He also started taking his fitness and health very seriously. In just over a year of working out consistently, he has lost all the belly fat he had when we were dating and packed on a lot of muscle. I appreciate and love my husband very much for everything he did to provide our family a safer and higher quality home and for getting himself in excellent shape. However, the pregnancy was quite turbulent and I had to leave my job. My husband was my rock and just an absolute blessing during this time. Since we were still in a really good financial situation even without my salary, I chose to be a SAHM for at least a few years and try to start my own nails business from our home.
Now, the issue is how insecure I feel despite all his compliments and reassurances to me. The main cause of my insecurity is ever since he got in shape, other women openly flirt with him. Some instances include his ex who works at the same company inviting him to the girls washroom at a company event, a colleague sending him nudes, and even some of my friends have tried flirting with him (we are no longer friends). He shuts these attempts down immediately and always lets me know but I feel that being as attractive and successful as he is at this young age, he could easily find someone to cheat on me with or leave me and our daughter for if he wanted to. He treats me wonderfully and is very involved in taking care of our baby daughter. I trust him fully but even the idea of him leaving me scares me.
How do I deal with these insecurities? Should I even bring this up to my husband?

2024.05.15 08:13 Pickle_Nickk Cashing out ROTH for closing costs

Probably going to catch a lot of heat for this question but whatever, I am buying my first house using the VA home loan, so a down payment is not needed, however I’m going to purchase 2 points to drop my interest less than 5%. I have enough in my savings to cover the closing costs, but it would greatly deplete my savings. I have a personal ROTH IRA that I opened a few years back and only contributed roughly under $20K. I have a decent job making over 6 figures, as well as a ton of stocks and a 401k through them that I actively contribute to.
I was thinking about cashing out the personal ROTH (paying the penalty and taxes on it) that way I don’t have to clear out the savings, just in case for emergency. Right now the ROTH is just sitting there not doing much for me, and I wanted to hear pros/cons/opinions/scenarios in the event anyone else did anything similar?
TL;DR Thinking about cashing out a personal ROTH (under 59 1/2) that hasn’t been contributed in quite a few years, so I don’t have to clear out HYS account, doesn’t have much in it, have an active contributing 401k that would NOT be touched.

2024.05.15 08:11 Many-Swimmer9914 Junior Entwickler Positionen mit 3 Jahren BE

After 30 days,I will strike out the things I was successfully able to do. Enough of being this softie.
As I write this, my stress has already started to level up. This is the point where we either hide or face ,and your next few months or years of life depends entirely on that one decision you took.

2024.05.15 08:07 mochiosh Adulting sucks (Specially pag walang pera)

Hello, guys. I just wanna ask some advice kasi it's been stressing me out at hindi ko alam kung tama ba ang ginagawa ko.
Here's the context
Things started to fall apart when my mom got sick. She died after battling with cancer for almost 2 years. Halos gumuho ang mundo ko nun, namin. My mom is like the glue to the family, she's what keeping our family stick together since mayroong internal issues between the family members that I will not go into detail na. Basically nung nawala siya, I was afraid na baka hindi lang si mama ang mawala sakin kundi buong pamilya ko kasi I was aware na hindi okay.
To make things short and to keep things somewhat peaceful sa bahay, sa ʼkin pinahawak ang pera na iniwan samin ni Mama. Medyo malaki yun kaya nakaya namin mabuhay within our lifestyle kahit na walang may work samin.
Since I am still studying I reach out to my Lolo and he's financing us. I talked to my papa too na he needs to find a job na rin since hindi na nga kaya but since sanay siya sa high paying jobs, halos tinatanggihan niya yung mga offer sakanya na mababa ang sweldo.
(I feel like he's thinking na expected na namagbigay ako ganun). So going back to the first question, ang rude ba na itanong yun? Last sem ko pa naman din.
/might delete this rin. thank u

2024.05.15 08:05 Quirky-swaggurl-420 I have no idea where to work and my appearance doesn’t help, any advice??

Kind of long, but any advice or input would be greatly appreciated :)
I (22F) have been working in fast food/ retail since I was 17 and I’m finally ready to take that leap to leave my current job and find one that will help advance my career and give me at least some financial stability. I also live in NorCal for context (not sure if I’d be willing to move quite yet.) I’ve been at my current retail job since 2021 and was honestly just going to stay there until I was completely finished with college but I just received my AA and the current management im under is so difficult to work with and extremely offensive I can barely take it not to mention I’ve been in management for about 2 years now and have gone from at least 20hr a week (part time) to less than 10hr a week, less than some associates and they’re all 3 hour shifts so I’m not even allowed to take a 10min break though im not even sure if that’s legal??
I am very fortunate to not have to pay rent as I live with my parents and I only have to worry about paying for my car, gas, phone, school, necessity’s etc. So no rent is a life saver in this economy. With that being said I don’t necessarily need the highest paying job quite yet (willing to work my way up or gain helpful experience) though that would be ideal for anyone. I just want to be able to find something that fits with my personality/ needs and also doesn’t care the way I look. I know sometimes you have to do what u gotta do but I cannot take working somewhere I’m miserable at and I understand that is a privilege within itself so I’m just trying to use the time I do have to really find what I’m passionate about and not be scared to try new things.
I still want to go back to school to get my bachelors degree since it’s always been a dream of mine, but since I pretty much pay for everything out of pocket besides some degree of financial aide, I don’t want to just aimlessly transfer somewhere with no clue on what to study which has been my issues for some time. I feel like my interest haven’t changed much and neither have my dreams to further my education so I’ve pretty much been saying the same things since probably before high school and I still have no clue what exactly the direction is I should go. I would love to gain some first hang experience to know if getting my B.A. is even worth it for the field I want to go into or what major would benefit me the best.
I have many interests and ideas as to what I could possibly do but I feel like as much as I say them out loud no one really relates so I always feel alone or like there’s no possible job for me that I’ll feel happy in. I mean I think majority of people would rather not work and focus their lives on their hobbies and passions but unfortunately that’s not in the cards for most people and though I sometimes live in that dreamland that doesn’t change the fact that I’m extremely dedicated, hard-working and really want to make a difference in whatever field I end up in. So I guess I’ll leave a list of the things I’m interested in, in case anybody has some advice or input on any occupations I’ve listed or have experience in anything I’ve listed.
I guess another thing to mention is that I was recently applying to a lot of jobs in childcare and pretty much every interview I went to turn me down on the spot because of my appearance. Of course I hear the stories of looking less professional due to your tattoos, piercings, etc., which I never understand. I don’t even have a single tattoo or piercing, not even my ears, but I have bright pink hair and that has been such a downside for the interviewing processes, even some retail jobs like Box Lunch for example doesn’t accept colored hair when they’re literally a pop culture store and share the same company as Hot Topic. I don’t want to have to change my appearance for a job. I know it’s just hair but I was never able to express myself the way I wanted to and the amount of money and maintenance that goes with having colored hair would not be worth it to me to color black just to get a job. It would feel like I’m altering myself and changing something that makes me feel good about myself is unfair and already puts a bad taste in my mouth about the company because they are willing to look over my qualifications and work ethic due to one minor detail in my appearance. One of these jobs I even had two on the phone interviews that went amazing and was going to my final in person interview and was literally meeting with a family for a behavioral technician job and the first thing they (the company) told me was I would need to change my hair to even be considered and I had to eventually politely end the interview because they still wanted to me to meet a kid despite straight up telling me they will not hire me if I didn’t immediately change my hair… and I’d be working with a family, not even in a ‘ public setting.’ I would just love to be able to work in a community that embraces people for their differences for the way they express themselves, and encourages self expression.
Anyways, here are some of my interests and I’d be eternally grateful to hear any feedback! Maybe you’ve worked in some of these environments and have advice or horror stories, if you have similar interests to me let me know what kind of job you have because I’m sure I don’t even know the formal titles to half of these jobs, or even have other ideas that match my interests. Thank you thank you thank you!
TLDR: I have so many interests and have no idea where to go with my next steps in my career and schooling, and would love some advice based off of my interest and experience. My unnaturally colored hair gets me nowhere. My experience and interests are listed below.
My schooling/ experience so far: * 5 years of theatre under my belt (onstage/backstage/management) * Just graduated with my AA in Social & Behavioral Sciences (Random but was recommended to do so based on all of the same interest I told my counselor some odd years ago) * Most of my college classes were focused in sociology, psychology, and child development, which has been super interesting so I am willing to branch out from my interest because I did find a lot of interest in the classes I’ve taken previously. * Have worked in retail for four years; Pretty well received by people * A nanny to 4 kids (ages 4-16) for about 3.5 years as well
My personality: (not sure if this will help with knowing if I would be a good fit for any of the jobs listed )
i’m extremely bubbly and can have my extroverted moments, but I can also be introverted at times and when work needs to get done, I will figure out the best way to do it and get to work. I work pretty well with a team and always have ideas flowing and bouncing around, but I can also excel working on my own/have no issues being independent with my work. I don’t have a huge preference on a fast versus slow paced work environment. I would like something flexible, but I have no issue with getting into a routine. I feel like I am truly pretty flexible when it comes to my work environment, I just really want a place that I can express myself and be surrounded by a community of people similar to me. I love to be innovative and creative.
My interests/ ideas: (sorry kinda random and jumps around)
As you can see, most of my interest have to do with childcare and the arts, which are some of the lowest paying jobs/difficult fields to get into, but it’s what I most passionate about and what I can actually see myself being happy doing for a long time. i’m also not opposed to working in one certain field for a while and then branching out to something different or related further down the line, I just want to know what step I should take next so I’m not just floating around doing nothing and being/fill, I just want to know what step I should take next so I’m not just floating around doing nothing and being/feeling useless.
Thank you so much to anyone who responds with advice and kind words :)

2024.05.15 08:01 SharkEva WIBTA if I turned down a promotion due to my original transfer being blocked?

I am not the OOP. The OOP is u/Used-Register3714 posting in AITA_WIBTA_PUBLIC
Ongoing as per OOP
2 updates - Long
Original - 2nd March 2024
Update1 - 14th April 2024
Update2 - 11th May 2024

WIBTA if I turned down a promotion due to my original transfer being blocked?

WIBTA? Little back story, I started working for a company in early 2022 as what they labeled as Admin, but don't let that fool you we were no admins, we worked 3 different departments that they combined into one with 3 people to cover everything, plus we were constantly fixing Customer Service mistakes.
Nov 2022 I met with the director of the Benefits Dept at work because I was interested in transferring and we went over the department, what the job entails and what I could start working on to better my chances at transferring. I checked in with the director many times as I finished different tasks such as completing the training courses, shadowing members of the team, and taking part in live trainings.
Early 2023 the director got a promotion to be the director of another department. In March a spot opened up in Benefits and it was a little outside what I knew, it was more a specialized position, but I still applied. I met with a few managers and the new director for interviews. We discussed many things and it was a positive experience, they were even happy with the steps that I had taken with the previous director. However, because it was such a specialized position they didn't want to throw me into the deep end, so they told me to apply for a different position when it opened up.
In May the other position opened up and I applied and basically skipped the interviews. The director and I meet and we discussed getting me transferred and doing it in a hybrid type manner. That worked for me and it worked for my current manager at the time too. Sadly, it feel through and I could never seem to get an answer as to why. It started out as budget reasons, totally understandable, but then it switched to not having troubleshooting knowledge that I would have if I had worked in Customer Service.
I had meeting with my (admin) manager and director, she covers both admin and customer service, I asked more clarifying questions as to why the transfer fell through but no one could give me a straight answer. We developed a plan to get me transferred to Benefits that caused me to route through Customer Service. I was transferred into Customer Service in November 2023.
Our CS team is split into basically 2 levels, 1 being online requests which is where everyone starts. You work a variety of requests and can gain a lot of knowledge. This is currently where I am. The second level is working the phones and helping the people that call in. This is more limited subject matter and can also carry a lot of "downtime" as they cannot work the online requests like the first level can because they will be on and off the phone all day.
Here is where I am wondering if I WIBTA. I have figured out, though not confirmed, that my directors boss is the one that blocked my transfer back in May and she is just a bitch/micromanager in general. Now someone from out phone team is leaving and it has been hinted that I might be the next one to move up. While it would come with a pay increase, not a lot or enough for the crap that we go through, I don't want it because I see it as more detrimental to me possibly transferring to my preferred department.
WIBTA if I said no because it would do more harm than good. Then turning around and asking how much longer I needed to be in the Customer Service department before I could apply to another position in the Benefits Dept?
Maybe helpful to also know that my customer service manager is not the best, she seems to bow down the the micromanager and she can't seem to manage a team of 10ish people, nor was she able to do half her job for moths and my admin manager was the one doing her work.

They're screwing you around. If you're good at your current role they don't want to move you. You could tell them that they transfer you or you leave, but they probably don't care about you much. Alternatively, just coast along, do what you must to keep management off your back and find a new job.
OOP: I've been thinking about coasting and just working my job description. Our phone team is technically down one person, and we have to help cover the missing persons time on phones. It's split, between most of us that work the first level. I might come out of that meeting with no phone time because it's not part of my job and you are probably right they don't want to move me because of that.

RndmIntrntStranger
NTA you do not have to stay at a job where you feel like you’re not growing/moving up. do not let any employer trick you into thinking that you owe it to them to stay there if it no longer works out for you. time to update your resume and start job hunting to see what’s out there.
OOP: Already started. I even interviewed for the same company that my coworker is joining. It will be interesting if we end up working together again.

Update - 6 weeks later

So I was an idiot and decided to take the promotion. Not my finest moment.
However, things have taken a turn for the interesting.
A week after I took the promotion another team that I have been interested in but never thought I could work in tapped me to transfer to their team. I ended up reaching out to our HR team to gather some guidance and spoke with our recruiter that works internally and externally.
He gave me some good pointers and helped me navigate how to best approach the conversation. The conversation then turned to my manager and I let him know all the issues I've been having with her, including not approving PTO till timecards are being turned in amongst other issues. Turns out I am not the first person to bring these concerns forward and HR is actively looking into the situation.
I ended up having a conversation with my manager the following week and from the start of the conversation I knew it wouldn't have the outcome I was hoping for based off of her body language. And I was right, even with laying everything out I was denied my managers blessing because I just moved tiers.
But the fun part of all of this is that she tried to pull the 6-month rule as to why I couldn't apply. The 6-month rule is part of our handbook. "You have to be in your position for 6-months before you can transfer internally for non-exempt employees." I asked my manager to get us clarification since we both had different understanding of the rule.
I know position could be tier, however I asked our HR team and the said position is department based. A better wording would be in my department for 6-months.
The following week she director was out so can't do anything that week so the following week I asked for a follow up. Guess who forgot to follow up with me. Not the first time she has done this. She is now saying it is tier based and I have to be in my position for a YEAR.
I reached back out to HR and we are now looping in the head of HR to talk about this.

Why did you take the promotion when you knew this person was playing games with your career?
OOP: Believe me I am pissed at myself for taking it. I have been a people pleaser for so long and it's something I've been improving on and I was caught in a weak moment. I did have some hope that the agreement that was in place before this person became my manager would be honored but I was naive to think so.
I can always back out of the new position if need be, which I have been think about.

Magdovus
Ask HR if you can apply for jobs in the other department as an external candidate instead of an internal one. When they ask why tell them that quitting and reapplying seems to be the only way to avoid your current department managers trying to ruin your career.
OOP: This is a thought that I have. Going to wait and see what happens with my next meeting with HR. They seem supportive of my transfer so they may be able to pull some strings to make it happen, but this is on my radar.

Update - 1 month later

So it has been a month of back and forth, and we still don’t technically have a resolution but I thought I might give a quick update.
After our director was back I reached out to my manager to ask if they had received clarification and they said: “if you move tiers your clock restarts and I have to be in my department for a year”. That still didn’t sit right with me, I had previously contacted HR as a minor inquiry if the clock was tier or department and they had said department.
I reached back out to the head of our HR team and set up a meeting so that we could discuss this. In that meeting, HR agreed with me and said that they would speak with the director to get clarification on what was going on and she would get back to me by the end of the week. She did and told me straight up that I met the tenure requirements to be able to apply for a transfer. Now I was supposed to get an update but it was postponed due to people being out of the office and things like that. But I finally got the update last week. They are saying no for two reasons now, I don’t meet the requirements of the job, such as a degree, and performance. But my performance has never been addressed. When I have made mistakes, I informed and the mistakes never happened again.
As for the degree thing, that can be worked around, and that is something that the manager or that team is working on for me.
But now they are saying that it is a big concern of theirs. My question at this point is if it was such a big concern why was that not brought up from the beginning? Why were we only discussing my tenure as the reason that I couldn’t apply?
Honestly, I almost quit in that meeting right there. The only reason that I am even thinking of staying is that the team that I would be transferring to is amazing and I already know how they operate and I already work closely with them.
I should be having another meeting next week with the manager and director and I am going to likely loop in HR as well.
I have decided that if I am blocked from applying I will be leaving and I will be citing that as well as many other reasons as to why I am leaving. The least of which is the fact that I now know that the director has gone and bad-mouthed an employee to another manager that someone was hoping to transfer over to.
Edit to add: I just spoke with a coworker who left a few weeks ago. They pulled the same things with him. He wanted to go to another department but they had a meeting with him saying that they saw him on a different path, one that kept him in the department. He said they did that to our other coworker who left just before him too.

2024.05.15 08:00 EntrepreneurCold1254 Could a career with your significant other be a good idea?

Hi everyone,
I'm 27 years old and just finished my master's degree in agricultural science from the University of Georgia. Growing up on a family farm, I've always been deeply involved in agriculture. This week, along with graduating, I also had back surgery and will be recovering for the next 6-8 weeks. This period has given me a lot of time to reflect on my future career and job search.
My fiancé is a successful State Farm agent with 10 years of experience. She believes I would be a good fit to join her in selling insurance and help her grow her business, especially focusing on life insurance, which she says is an area needing improvement.
Our relationship is seamless; we have never argued and see each other as equals. We're very open and supportive of each other. Despite this, I have some reservations about this potential career change. I have no experience in insurance or sales, and I'm concerned about mixing our home life with work, which could put stress on our relationship.
I know I'm a quick learner and believe I can tackle new challenges, but the self-doubt is real. I'm also aware that this feeling is probably normal when considering such a significant shift in career paths. On paper, working together seems ideal, and I think I would enjoy helping her grow the business beyond her expectations.
I'm considering starting to shadow her at the office while I'm recovering and possibly taking licensing classes. However, I'm uncertain about how this decision could impact my future and our relationship.
What do you all think? Should I start shadowing her during my recovery? Should I go ahead and take the licensing classes? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
