[Intro] (Guitar riff: a simple, haunting melody that sets the tone for the song) [Verse 1] I (1.0) woke (1.0) up (1.0) in (1.0) the (1.0) morning (1.5) feeling (1.2) lost (1.0) and (1.0) alone (1.2) (2 seconds) The (1.0) voices (1.2) in (1.0) my (1.0) head (1.0) they're (1.0) whispering (1.5) "just (1.0) one (1.0) more" (1.2) (2.5 seconds) I'm (1.0) trying (1.2) to (1.0) find (1.0) my (1.0) footing (1.2) on (1.0) this (1.0) shaky (1.2) ground (1.2) I'm (1.0) on (2.5 seconds) But (1.0) I'm (1.0) slipping (1.2) further (1.2) down (1.0) into (1.0) the (1.0) darkness (1.2) that (1.0) I've (1.0) known (1.2) [Pre-Chorus] I'm (1.0) searching (1.2) for (1.0) a light (1.2) to guide me through the night (3 seconds) A beacon in the darkness, to help me find my way back to the light (3 seconds) I'm trying to find my strength, to overcome this fight (2 seconds) But it's hard to keep going, when the demons are so bright (3 seconds)

[Verse 2] I'm reaching out for help, to lift me up from the floor (3 seconds) I'm trying to find my strength, in a world that's full of more (3 seconds) I'll hold on to the hope, that someday I'll be free once more (3 seconds) And maybe someday soon, I'll be living life anew (3 seconds)
[Pre-Chorus] I'm searching for a light, to guide me through the night (3 seconds) A beacon in the darkness, to help me find my way back to the light (3 seconds) I'm trying to find my strength, to overcome this fight (2 seconds) But it's hard to keep going, when the demons are so bright (3 seconds)

[Bridge] I'll take it one step at a time, one day at a time (4 seconds) I'll learn to let go of the pain, and leave it all behind (4 seconds) I'll rise up from the ashes, like a phoenix born anew (4 seconds) And I'll shine my light so bright, that it will guide me through (4 seconds)

2024.06.09 21:23 Nagashiwa Interview with Sunemegamafy [10th anniversary special]

Interview with Sunemegamafy [10th anniversary special]
Original post: https://jrocknroll.com/interview-with-sunemegamafy-2/
I want to Congratulate Sunemegamafy on their10th anniversary! Time goes by so fast. It is hard for me to believe that I have been following Sunemegamafy for 10 years now! I was really happy to see Sunemegamafy again on March 16th! The performance was really amazing!
https://preview.redd.it/mktnop6ujl5d1.png?width=1568&format=png&auto=webp&s=399126c5eaba782122ee7f4e0e5808564f57d816
Let’s start with how you would like to introduce Sunemegamafy to the readers who don’t know you yet.
Tomo: We’re a rock band with perfectly balanced songs that came together at the perfect time as each member was building his or her career.
Toru: A soulful rock band with a focus on intense yet tender songs.
Kenichi: A band full of passion and emotion.
Kyoushi: A four-person rock band.
Please introduce yourself.
Tomo: I am the reliable big brother who leads from the front as a vocalist.
Toru: I am a somewhat shy and troublesome guitar player.
Kenichi: I am a cheerful and sensitive bass player.
Kyoushi: I am a drummer with enlightenment.
Why did you decide to become a musician?
Tomo: I guess it’s the ultimate hobby that I found to be fun and that still continues to this day. So there is no particular reason.
Toru: When I was in high school, there was the so-called band boom. All my friends were in bands, so I started to play as well, 35 years have passed since then.
Kenichi: because of someone’s influence.
Kyoushi: There was no reason. Before I knew it, I was a drummer.
What are your thoughts on the celebration of your 10th anniversary?
Tomo: I don’t think we’ve moved as fast as we should have, but these 10 years have gone by so fast. To me it feels like we were just formed a few years ago.
Toru: I’m happy to be in a band that I can still hold on to at this age, and I’m grateful to the other members as well.
Kenichi: Time seems to have flown by so fast.
Kyoushi: I feel very happy about it.
Please tell us about the artists that have influenced you.
Tomo: Artists who have influenced my songwriting: The Cure、Echo & the Bunnymen、Bauhaus、Killing Joke、The Pop Group, Nine Inch Nails、KoЯn、BUCK-TICK. People who have influenced my singing: Koji Kikkawa, Kyosuke Himuro, Trent Reznor, Koji Tamaki, Yosui Inoue, Koji Miyamoto
Toru: REZY BeAT, U2, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Poison, Slayer, GASTANK, etc.
Kenichi: Visual Kei and Anime songs.
Kyoushi: There are too many…
What is the reason for your choice of instrument?
Tomo: In the third year of junior high school, my classmates and I decided to form a band. We had already decided on a guitarist and a bassist, so I asked my other friend to play the drums while I sang. I forced him to be the drummer.(lol) And so I ended up being the vocalist.
Toru: When I was in high school, I had four friends that I hung out with almost every day and we decided to start a band, but none could play the guitar, so I ended up playing it.
Kenichi: Someone influenced me…
Kyoushi: Before I knew it, I was a drummer.
Please tell us how you started your musical career.
Tomo: Because I had a friend who played in a band with me in the third year of middle school. I think that’s when I started my musical career.
Toru: I started because I wanted popularity, but I wasn’t popular.
Kenichi: Someone influenced me…
Kyoushi: Before I knew it, I was a drummer.
What has been the greatest joy for you in your career as a musician?
Tomo: To be able to make music together with these members.
Toru: That I am able to put everything I’ve ever felt into music.
Kenichi: There have been so many things that have made me happy that I can’t decide which is the best one.
Kyoushi: I am very happy to be able to perform live on stage.
You’ve released two CDs and a music video in the last 10 years. Do you have any plans to record a new CD or release a new music video?
Tomo: We plan to release a new CD by the end of the year.
Toru: I like to create something soon.
Kenichi: That’s right…
Kyoushi: We start recording soon, right?
As Sunemegamafy, what is the secret to staying together for 10 years?
Tomo: The difference in our attitude is the same. So far, we are all doing it with a normal attitude.
Toru: As a musician, trust and exquisite distance
Kenichi: I think it’s our trust.
Kyoushi: The secret? I wonder what it would be.
In March 2020, a global pandemic broke out and the live concerts could not be held as planned, and a very frustrating period followed for a long time. What was your state of mind at that time?
Tomo: It’s a small world, but we were waiting for the time to come back to the stage. That’s how I felt.
Toru: I had the idea that I would be able to do it again, but I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do the kind of live performances that I liked, like getting into a frenzy and getting wild.
Kenichi: I thought it couldn’t be helped.
Kyoushi: I’m not looking back. My gaze is on the present time and the future.
I really like the positive and negative atmosphere in the lyrics. The songs sometimes start with a negative atmosphere but end on a positive note. Can you introduce our readers to your four favorite songs? Please tell us more about how the song was created in terms of lyrics and melody.
Tomo: 無常の風 (Mujou no kaze) I created the melody by playing the guitar and singing. The feeling of tempo, softness, silence and movement, I think that thanks to the members, it has become an essential song for Sunemegamafy. I wasn’t sure if I should write lyrics about my father and friends, about what actually happened to me, but Ken-chan, the bassist, told me to write as I wanted, so I was able to write as I wanted.
百折不撓 (Hyakusetsufuto) I gave it to the members with the rhythm and riff in mind, but the rhythm I thought would sound cool when Kyoshi played it fit perfectly, and I got carried away and added the melody. The lyrics were written during the coronavirus pandemic, so it’s about not giving up and getting back up. Overcoming difficulties! I guess that’s the lyrics.
わやくちゃWayakucha As the title of the song suggests, it’s a chaotic song (lol), but I wanted to make it an interesting song with a deliberate rhythm change, so I gave it to the members. The part where all the members have a chorus battle is also a highlight. The melody just started to come together and kicked in. The lyrics are about the chaos of the world.
にんげん (Ningen) I had the A and B parts for this song about 10 years ago, and it had been shelved for a long time, but when the band members listened to it, they liked it, and it became a masterpiece because of the love of the band members. I want people to experience it in a live show because it is a song that has a lot of room to grow. The lyrics are written in a positive way. It’s about living in the present and the end that will come one day.
Toru: I guess it’s ソノ先ノムコウヘ(Sono Saki no Mukou e) after all.
Kenichi: 陽のあたる場所 (Hinoatarubasho)
Kyoushi: 百折不撓 (Hyakusetsufuto)
More songs have been written in the last 10 years. Has your favorite song changed? [Before Tomo answered “道の先(Michi no saki)” Toru answered “ソノ先ノムコウヘ” and Ken said “陽のあたる場” and Kyoushi said “無常の風”]
Tomo: 百折不撓 (Hyakusetsufuto) It just feels so right when I sing it.
Toru: My favorite songs haven’t changed. But I have a special connection to all of them, so I have a different feeling for them than just liking them.
Kenichi: They haven’t changed, but they have grown.
Kyoushi: It hasn’t changed.
You’ve been involved in music for a long time. What is the biggest change in the music industry compared to the past?
Tomo: I go into the studio, write songs, rehearse and play live shows over and over again, so I am not really aware of the music industry.
Toru: The age range of musicians at venues.
Kenichi: It feels as if there are fewer younger bands?
Kyoushi: I wonder?
What is the most important thing if you play in a band?
Tomo: To make sure you are well prepared for a live show. But first of all, as a singer, you must have a passion for singing.
Toru: As I said in a previous interview, I try to put my feelings into the sound, but I’m only human, so I have ups and downs, but I try to keep my mind straight and keep performing.
Kenichi: To have fun doing it.
Kyoushi: Do the best you can that day.
Other than music, please tell us about your hobbies.
Tomo: Camping, drinking by the campfire.
Toru: Mahjong, pachinko, reading while bathing.
Kenichi: I’m about to take up several hobbies.
Kyoushi: Hobbies? What are my hobbies?
What is the most memorable event in Sunemegamafy’s activities?
Tomo: Personally, I was impressed that I was able to perform in my hometown (Sapporo) last year.
Toru: My goal is to make the 10th anniversary live on June 22, 2024 the most unforgettable live concert of all time.
Kenichi: Our first live show?
Kyoushi: Which live was it? I can’t remember…
Do you have any goals for your activities in the future?
Tomo: First of all, we want to perform energetically and passionately at the live shows scheduled to be held later this year.
Toru: I want to create exciting music with the current members as much as I can, and I want to strive for the moment when the sound played by human beings goes beyond music and becomes a prayer.
Kenichi: Just to have fun.
Kyoushi: To be interviewed for the 20th anniversary.
Finally, please give a message to our readers.
Tomo: See you at a live show. And experience it.
Toru: I hope you will experience a live performance at a live house. Let’s have fun!
Kenichi: Thank you for your continued support!
Kyoushi: Please come to our liveshow!

2024.06.09 21:22 tehereoeweaeweaey Why on earth was forgiveness always the focus instead of what I went through? Does not forgiving actually cause more trauma?

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with forgiveness but the times it was urged or centered in my sessions always seemed wildly inappropriate.
The context is this. I had an abusive narcissistic adoptive mother who had closeted paraphillic tendencies growing up. She had a lot of money and used said money to not only control everything I did but actively ruin my life.
She prevented me from playing with other children in my formative years, and took me to a different doctor 5 days a week to get me diagnosed with conditions I didn’t have. It didn’t help that I was a transgender child, and she would constantly try to use my preferences for self identifying and toys and clothes as an excuse for why “something must be wrong with me”. She had apparently had me on Abilify as young as two years old according to records, so I know that even before I showed signs of being trans she was already incredibly negligent.
Doctors would refuse to diagnose me with anything and constantly get in fights with my mom. Every day was a battle to prove my intelligence and that didn’t belong in a conservatorship and I was deserving of a normal education.
In addition to this I had no privacy as a child, and she would touch me inappropriately and expose me to horrible harmful things.
My mother would isolate me further over the years, took me out of public high school to a school with 100 students for kids with a range of problems.
At 16 I couldn’t take it anymore and wrote a letter coming out to my mom, school and therapist, after years of coming out and constantly being forced back in the closet. The day afterwards, my mother tried to poison me with mustard gas in a room in the back of our house.
Despite that I sucked it up, got A’s in my classes and got into college with a 60k scholarship. I wasn’t allowed to go and didn’t even have the gas money to drive there.
I gave up, became depressed, acted out, etc. typical 17 year old with abusive family.
Then my parents under the guise of sending me to an independent living program, tricked me into a “treatment center” where I was not only stuck for 4 years, but also monitored, prevented from working jobs of my choice, lived in a room flooded with black mold and toilet water, sexually assaulted, drugged, left to die in the room, and forced to sleep in the same room I almost died in for an entire year.
I also discovered when I stopped taking Abilify at 18, which had given me severe physical side effects, all the side effects which made me look worse than I was went away. I felt robbed of a normal youthhood.
Despite everything that happened I felt invisible, like my calls to shut the program down, my demands for help and liberation from my family were essentially unheard.
I wrote a firm letter to my mother, that essentially, if she didn’t use her money to pay me reparations in the form of a furnished apartment, she would never hear from me again.
Granted, this wasn’t the wisest choice but my memory was in recovery after having been drugged, and there were things she did that I hadn’t remembered yet.
So then I moved out and planned to get a job to take over the lease.
Then the pandemic hit, and my therapist at the time (who was supposed to be doing trauma therapy) was instead trying to get me to forgive and reconcile with my mother, basically telling me that not forgiving her would cause me more trauma in the long run.
However I also feel that if someone is still verbally abusing you and financially controlling you it’s not the right time to forgive and wasn’t what I needed.
It’s been at least 3.5 years, and I managed to run away from my family, survived homelessness, and currently live on my own in an apartment with multiple bedrooms. I’m inbeween jobs, had a job and lost it in April.
I haven’t had a therapist in at least 3 years because of how awful they have been.
I’ve had multiple friends suggest that the therapists acted that way because they were simply paid by my mother to get me to submit to her will. Also that I should get my own with my own money someday.
I just feel crazy, like so many adult professionals in my life failed me, and all treated me like the crazy one.
Maybe I just have 50 bad therapists in a row. Or it is probably my mom sabotaging the therapy… idk…
My sister says I don’t need to forgive her to be happy. Is that true, or does not forgiving cause more trauma? My mom is old so I should figure this out sooner than later.
I only care about having less trauma and being more healed. What are your thoughts?

2024.06.09 21:20 PM_ME_UR_REDPANDAS Looking for anyone who has had experience with both endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy to remove a polyp - pain comparison

I am a post-menopausal woman who has been experiencing some vaginal bleeding. I’ve been to a gynecologist. At my first visit, she spotted a polyp on my cervix, which she removed that day. I returned for an transvaginal ultrasound, and again for an endometrial biopsy.
I experienced some discomfort, but little to no pain when she removed the polyp from my cervix, and the same for the endometrial biopsy.
I’ve been reading up on hysteroscopies, and I’ve seen everything from ‘almost as bad as being in labor’ (I’ve never had kids, so this sounds terrifying) to somewhat painful but not terrible. Articles that describe the procedure also seem to vary - some are written as if they assume the procedure will be done under anesthesia, and others not.
I realize every woman is different, so asking ‘does a hysteroscopy hurt’ isn’t helpful.
So the next best thing that I can think of to ask is, for anyone who has had BOTH an endometrial biopsy AND a hysteroscopy, how does the pain compare?
I realize anesthesia is an option, but I am trying to gauge whether, if I tolerated the endometrial biopsy well, I would be able to handle the hysteroscopy done in the doc’s office rather than having to go to the hospital for the anesthesia for it.
Any insight is appreciated. TIA.

2024.06.09 21:19 Particular_Ad9541 Feeling like I don’t deserve anything good as I try to continue recovering from impulse buying

28m. This may be a more therapy/anxiety topic, but as many of us here know, the shopping and spending all tie back into something else. I’ve posted here a few times, mostly after admitting that spending on things like collecting expensive watches, buying guitar gear etc was getting way out of hand, racking up a few k of debt and all in all getting unmanageable for me. All a coping mechanism for generalized anxiety and ADHD that I used to self medicate with alcohol and cocaine in my early 20s (in recovery, almost 5 years sober.) fast forward a few months, and the spending has been marginally better, but not where I want it to be, and I still have a ways to go to get comfortable again financially and really chip away at my debt. So I recently booked a quick vacation at an Airbnb for next week just to have a quick mental break at one of my favorite northern East coast beaches, and now I feel depressed and angry that I even am letting myself take a relatively inexpensive vacation. My thinking is very black and white..I feel like I can’t or shouldn’t do anything until I’m satisfied with my relationship with money. Might just be the slow day at work today that’s keeping me stuck in my head, but this is crippling me at the moment.

2024.06.09 21:18 vipula7 Burned out

Being a working mother is hard. It’s an endless cycle of chores, responsibilities, and emotional labor that seems to go unnoticed. My husband does the bare minimum, just enough to pretend he’s helping, but not enough to truly lighten the load. It’s exhausting and isolating.
I often feel lonely, carrying the weight of our family on my shoulders. Sometimes, it feels like I’m drowning in the demands of motherhood and career while my partner stands on the sidelines, oblivious or indifferent.
But despite the burnout, I remind myself why I push through. My son deserves the best life I can give him. If I can make his world better, if I can ensure he feels loved and supported, then it’s worth it. Even on the days when it feels like I’m running on empty, I hold onto the hope that my efforts will pay off for him in the long run.
But right now, it’s hard. And I need to acknowledge that.

2024.06.09 21:17 AMETSFAN 1870 Midterms The Rail Splitter

1870 Midterms The Rail Splitter
Although many hoped President Lincoln’s Reconstruction policies would end the conflict in the South, the aftermath of Blaine’s victory quickly proved this hope to be misplaced. Chafing under the broadly accepted vision of President Lincoln, the Ku Klux Klan led by ex-Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest would begin a reign of terror in parts of the South. The KKK’s presence would concentrate in Georgia, Louisiana, and South Carolina, along with pockets in other states to harass black citizens and intimidate potential Republican voters, especially the few blacks who could vote. The KKK has also strongly opposed the “New Departure” Strategy and has attempted to coerce local Democratic parties to make White Supremacy their guiding principle. Blaine responded by passing the Enforcement Act of 1870 which made interfering with voters a federal crime and allowed federal marshals to prosecute any people who partake in such actions, and the extremely controversial Ku Klux Klan Act of 1870 which allowed the Federal military to enforce laws of Congress, made state officials liable for violations of the Civil Rights Act of 1867, prohibited suspected Klansmen from serving on juries related to Klan prosecutions, and, most controversially, temporarily suspended habeas corpus in areas where the Klan was present. Using the full weight of both the Department of War and Justice, Blaine has begun the mass arrests and prosecutions of Klansmen, and the KKK has vanished from polling stations across the South. Nonetheless, Blaine’s opponents among the National Union Republicans and Democrats accuse him of tyranny and accuse him of dismantling Lincoln’s Reconstruction with many Southern NURs voting against the Ku Klux Klan Act, and even the President’s closest advisor, Secretary of Treasury Garfield expressing opposition.

Ex-Confederate Lt. General Nathaniel B. Forrest is rumored to be close to closing the KKK with the Federal government on the march.
Blaine would also sign the Naturalization Act of 1870 which allowed for the naturalization of people of African descent, though, not ones of Chinese descent with Blaine making appearances in California to denounce the evils of “coolie labor,” and also provided for the right of all citizens to sit on juries. Blaine has also endorsed Constitutional Amendments for the Civil Rights Act and universal suffrage, and, has used his patronage in the South to support Radicals and many carpetbaggers who have enacted universal suffrage in some cases despite pleas from scalawags like James Alcorn and Andrew Jackson Hamilton to let native Southerners run the state parties. Nonetheless, Blaine has also signed the Amnesty Act of 1869 pardoning all Confederates, except for Confederate President Jefferson Davis, who remains in Canada.
Economically, Blaine has used his decisive mandate to continue the transformation of the Federal Government’s role in American society. Blaine has signed legislation continuing the Freedman’s Bureau and expanding its operations in securing advancements for Black citizens in health, education, and wages with the Freedman’s Bureau paying renewed attention to securing improved contracts for black workers. Blaine also doubled down on railroad expansion, expanding grants and subsidies for the Texas & Pacific Railway’s planned “Second Continental Railroad,” which would stretch from Pennsylvania through the South to St. Louis and then to Texas before ending in San Diego. Blaine has also sponsored grants for a variety of railroads for Southern and Western states at the behest of Republican politicians with many opponents of railroad land grants arguing that Blaine was favoring railroad companies with whom he was close, citing the relationship between the Union Pacific Railroad and leading Republican politicians, such as Blaine. Blaine also passed a bill expanding the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862 to Southern states, allowing for the expansion of existing state universities and creating new ones in states like Alabama and Arkansas. The Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1870 has also provided for black colleges and universities, but, has been criticized by men like Benjamin Butler for facilitating segregated education with no regulations on segregation within Southern education. In response to complaints from Southerners that public education is too costly to fund, Blaine has also endorsed a bill by freshman Congressman Henry W. Blair for universal education funded by the Federal Government. While pleasing fiscal conservatives with his signature of the Public Credit Act of 1869, affirming the nation’s commitment to gold, Blaine has been unable to abolish the income tax and has only paid down small parts of the national debt due to his spending, with Democrats and anti-Blaine Republicans criticizing his inability to do so.

Congressman Henry W. Blair has begun the fight for free and universal education.
Blaine has also faced criticism over alleged corruption. Soon after he entered the Presidency, the Black Friday conspiracy by Jay Gould and Jay Fisk to corner the gold market began. While Blaine was able to avoid financial armageddon, Blaine and Treasury Secretary Garfield have been severely criticized for following the two men’s wishes for much of their plot with Black Friday leading to an economic downturn for numerous months while the pair escaped without legal punishment. Blaine has fiercely opposed Civil Service reform, with his only concession being a Civil Service Commission undermined by his decision to make William A. Richardson, known for his belief in looser ethics, Chairman. Rumors have emerged about improprieties in the Port Authority of New York and contracts given by the Post Office for “Star Routes,” all of which have been denied by the President and those accused. Secretary of State John A. Logan, Postmaster General Stephen W. Dorsey, and Secretary of War Ulysses Grant have also been accused of letting incompetence and corruption fester within the Departments, with Dorsey and Grant in particular under fire over allegations of managing Departments filled with bribery, corruption, rigged contracts, and other illicit practices while Dorsey has been accused of personal involvement with Star Routes.
National Union Republican Party:
President Blaine ran in 1868 with a promise to unite the party, yet, has overseen the fragmenting of the coalition that ruled the previous decade. His policies on civil rights, railroads, and civil service reform have led to discontent within the party along with other controversial issues. Stalwart Republicans have backed the President on policy, even if many have personal conflicts with the President, such as Roscoe Conkling. They argue, first and foremost, that Blaine’s actions against the Ku Klux Klan are defending the principles of the Civil War, and reject the argument that the Ku Klux Klan Act attacks civil liberties by pointing to President Lincoln’s suspensions of habeas corpus during the Civil War. They also fervently argue in favor of railroad grants, free public education, and interventionist economics, although some are more skeptical of the latter due to fears of devaluing the Gold Standard and potentially ruinous national debt. A uniting belief among Stalwarts is opposition to civil service reform, or Roscoe Conkling dubbed “snivel service reform” with Conkling infamously deriding leading reform advocate George William Curtis as a “man milliner.” On other issues, Stalwarts advocate for an assimilationist Native policy, while seeing no issues in the current Department of Interior, staunchly support protectionist tariff policy, oppose amnesty for Jefferson Davis, are uncompromisingly in favor of the Gold Standard, support an expansionary foreign policy, and support Constitutional Amendments for Civil Rights and Suffrage.

Cartoon mocking the many allegations of corruption against President Blaine from his leading editorial enemy, Thomas Nast.
The Liberal Republicans represent discontent within the Republican Party with President Blaine's policies for various reasons ranging from corruption, civil rights, and tariffs to even simple patronage. The Liberal Republican movement would begin in Missouri in opposition to the Stalwart-controlled state Government that had enacted the most Radical Reconstruction with a total disenfranchisement of thousands of ex-Confederates. Liberal Republicans would run ex-Senator John B. Henderson against Stalwart Governor Joseph W. McClurg with Democratic support, quickly attracting the attention of national observers. President Blaine would pressure leading Republicans and state officers to support McClurg, but, to the shock of many, 11 Republican Senators led by Charles Sumner and Carl Schurz would publish a letter first criticizing the illiberality and corruption of the Missouri Government before attacking Blaine for “chopping off the heads of those suspected of sympathizing with Mr. Henderson.” At the core of the Liberal Republican message is a call for civil service reform, a reformation of the Federal Government’s Departments (Interior, Postal, and War are often brought up by name), and, a call for eliminating rotation in office. Another important call among Liberal Republicans is demands for the end of patronage for Carpetbaggers in the South and the continuation of Lincoln’s “just” Reconstruction.
The wing is also broadly in favor of lower tariffs, an anathema to the traditional Republican message, but, one that has caught on among reformers who see the protective tariff as a shield for protecting certain monopolies and interests. On civil rights issues, Liberal Republicans are divided with some like Sumner and Edmund G. Ross endorsing further civil rights measures and Constitutional Amendments for at least the Civil Rights Act while others like Schurz and Senator Orris Ferry are more skeptical. Similarly, on railroads and land grants, the party is broadly opposed, but some more moderate Liberal Republicans, who are entirely committed to the party, but still take issue with Blaine such as Ohio Governor Rutherford B. Hayes and Congressman William A. Wheeler are supportive. There is more consensus in the party in favor of funding education, however. Liberal Republicans also favor pardoning Jefferson Davis, the rapid abolishment of the income tax, a limited foreign policy, and the assimilation of Native Americans while arguing corruption in the Department of Interior plagues relations with various tribes.

Cartoon mocking Democratic pledges of support for equal rights and civil service reform, also by Nast.
Democratic Party:
Reeling after another smashing electoral defeat, the Democrats are reduced to only rhetorical pleas against the Republican program in Congress. Facing internal divisions and external domination, the party of Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren has been brought to its knees and the very question of its survival is at stake. Like the Republicans, the Democrats face divisions on many of the major issues, both policy and philosophical. As a whole, the Democratic Party has strongly endorsed lower tariffs, and the abolition of the income tax, pardoning Jefferson Davis, and has vehemently attacked Blaine on corruption and endorsed civil service reform. But, the party still faces fissures despite a limited consensus.
Departure Democrats argue that the modest gains made by Chief Justice Chase in the 1868 Election compared to the 1866 Midterms can only be expanded if the party continues expunging any links to secession and planter domination. Departure Democrats, first and foremost, focus on supporting “New South” Democrats who will focus on industry and avoid White Supremacy in local Southern elections. Departure Democrats are the foremost advocates of cooperation with the Liberal Republicans in areas where advantageous, such as the aforementioned Missouri Gubernatorial Election or in various Senate elections where more Liberal Republicans are facing election. Departure Democrats have previously largely supported railroad grants and land colleges, but, have expressed skepticism due to fears of corporate abuse, particularly by carpetbaggers. However, they largely support railroad construction done at the state level, except for instances of corruption (especially when associated with Republican legislators.) Concerning Civil Rights, Departure Democrats have all endorsed acceptance of President Lincoln’s Reconstruction, including the Civil Rights Act, but, have opposed the KKK Act for being tyrannical and alienating Southerners. Departure Democrats are more willing than most Democrats to accept an expanded Navy, but, still largely oppose expansionary efforts and are more skeptical of universal education with the public debt still having to be paid off.
Meanwhile, Bourbon Democrats remain quite similar to Departure Democrats and are closely connected, but, are more broadly fiscally conservative. Bourbon Democrats believe that, while state railroad subsidies are advisable, continued federal subsidies for railroads would be too fiscally ruinous and believe the Government’s priority should be to pay back the national debt. Bourbon Democrats also take a stronger stance against the Ku Klux Klan Act with many Bourbon Democrats accused of accepting Klan violence if it were to gain them votes. However, some Bourbons such as Henry Matthews and John M. Palmer have condemned Klan violence while opposing the Klan Act. Bourbons are also more likely to oppose the expansion of the Navy, and, especially, American imperialism.
Agrarian Democrats led by Thomas Ewing Jr and William R. Taylor are the only Democrats who oppose the Gold Standard, still agitating for inflating the economy through Greenbacks to facilitate faster Western settlement and pay off debts for farmers. Agrarian Democrats are also more associated with movements for labor rights with calls for enforcing an 8-hour day without cuts in federal employment, a Bureau of Labor Statistics, stringent opposition to corporate monopolies of railroads, and, opposition to land-grants on the ground that the land belonged to settlers, not bidders. Agrarian Democrats have also played up more overt racism towards black Americans and have stringently opposed the Ku Klux Klan Act, with the party attempting to make inroads with White Southern farmers. Agrarian Democrats also are staunchly anti-expansionism, focus on settler prerogative in Western territories, and have joined President Blaine in anti-Chinese rhetoric.
Finally, Redeemer Democrats have openly called for the restoration of White Supremacy and rule by any means necessary, including the Ku Klux Klan and other paramilitaries if need be. Redeemers employ unapologetically vitriolic and racist rhetoric in their campaigns, and, argue that Blacks are inherently undeserving of the rights of citizenship while focusing on many cases of Carpetbagger corruption to argue that Democratic planter rule in the South is preferable. Most Redeemers are members of the weakened planter elite who are committed to Conservative economic principles like the Gold Standard and are skeptical of even state subsidies for railroads. But, above all, they are committed to the restoration of a White South, and face condemnation from even many Democrats.

2024.06.09 21:14 Ismatay Is it normal to feel selfish?

I feel like I'm nothing but garbage. I have everything I could ask for but still feel like I'm worthless. It started one year ago, I entered a chef school. Looking back I always hated the idea, but my family "convinced me" to do it. Indirectly at least. The stress of a kitchen was a lot for me. I started to fell behind my companions and felt like I was the center of the problems. Started to think that they hated me, that they speaker bad being my back, that they were right. I guess I was getting kind of paranoid searching for another meanings to their words or believing that they we're making fun of me. I'm pretty sure I acted like a jerk to normal commentaries just because I'm a fool. One of those days I came early home after failing an exam, my mother wasn't home so I went to the kitchen. With lots of fucking thoughts in my mind. Took a knife and made a small cut on my arm. It hurted, but also felt relieved. For some time I made the same after get to home. It was a good way to stop my brain for thinking about all that. Besides the guilt. I feel like it's selfish, I don't know. Mother has done a lot for me and I reward her cutting myself? When the year was going to end I told my mother I didn't liked it and wanted to leave. I expected a lots of things, my mom getting angry, maybe even yell at me. But no, she made a face and asked me something. I don't remember what she asked me, her face got stuck on my head. I'm pretty sure it was a disappointment face but I don't really know since it lasted a blink of an eye before changing to a sad face. I left the chef school, and with it my routine of cutting my arm. But it didn't last long for my family to discover that I left. And with his comments of: "I imagined you would left, you must be really determined to work in a kitchen" my paranoid came back. I felt the comment like an attack. Like if my family were also talking bad about me behind my back. It probably doesn't make any sense, but the more I thought about it the less I sleeped at night. Slowly I've been seeing them less, almost feeling like a stranger when I got to visit. I also lost contact with almost all my highschool friends. This year I tried to go for an informatic school. It started pretty well, I meet a lot of people and enter a decent group of "friends" I don't feel them has my friends. I wouldn't trust them or no one else any kind of secret or personal conversation. As the course went on I started to feel like I was falling behind again. Started to feel like my companions we're talking behind my back again, every day I go to class like if nothing happened made the same jokes with them and feeling fine and then go back home and start feeling like I live under a mask. Not too along I cutted my arm again. I had a little confrontation with one of them and I don't know what I'm doing. They are better than me in everything and I don't know what to do. Probably I'm just selfish in any way, or just an idiot or just being dramatic. I don't know what to do
I kind of just wrote that because I received a condescending message from one of my companions and decided to break myself here instead of insult him

2024.06.09 21:09 fnpg Welcome to the NHL

Welcome to the NHL
[June 2023] NHL WELCOMES WISCONSIN WAR EAGLES WITH EXPANSION & ROOKIE DRAFTS
Shortly after the announcement of a 33rd NHL franchise in Wisconsin, the newly minted War Eagles and rookie General Manager Jimmy Roland were tossed in the deep end with an expansion draft that allowed them the opportunity to pick up players from 31 other franchises (Seattle, entering only its third season, was exempt).
Expansion draft highlights for WIS include talented goaltender Jeremy Swayman, underrated defenseman Sam Girard, and former New York Ranger Filip Chytil.
Just days after the expansion draft, the 2023 NHL draft took place, with youngsters from all over the world vying to be selected by an NHL franchise. Picking 4th, Wisconsin worked the phones aggressively to try and move up but was ultimately unable to. In a stroke of luck, their primary target, American winger Amari Chucko, fell to them at #4. Praised for his offensive skills and compared favorably to future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane, Chucko is poised to make an early impact with this new franchise.
https://preview.redd.it/0g499ljuel5d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9272f7d16ee3e318fdfc0bebc2b12ec34c6e136

Not content to rest on their laurels, GM Jimmy Roland was able to orchestrate a trade, the first of his NHL career, to move back up into the top 10 and secure the 7th overall pick from Montreal. In exchange for the #7 pick, Wisconsin gave up their 2023 2nd round pick, their 2024 1st round pick, and the rights to young goalie Lukas Dostal. Asked by media why he felt comfortable trading next year's 1st round pick, Roland quipped, "We had an opportunity to get another top 10 player and I took it. If we were picking in the top 10 again next year, then I'm not doing my job right."
The War Eagles used their second first round pick of this year's draft to select young American forward Esteban Sugihara. Already 6'3 and 206 pounds at age 17, Sugihara projects as a physical center that can use his strength and speed to dominate opponents.
https://preview.redd.it/bednct3bgl5d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=68d669630b5f6fca056d90e27eb2f3d7829e119a

In addition to Chucko and Sugihara, Wisconsin picked up goalie Samuel St-Hilaire in the third round, defenseman Matteo Koci in the 4th, and Samu Bau (center) and Derek Smyth (defenseman) in the 6th. The War Eagles flipped their 5th and 7th round picks to the Vancouver Canucks for left-winger Arshdeep Bains and a 2024 6th round pick.
Next up in this whirlwind offseason Wisconsin is the re-signing and free agency period, where they will look to lock down all their newly acquired players, find some free agent acquisitions, and craft the first ever roster for the Wisconsin War Eagles.

2024.06.09 21:07 LYIN2YOURSELF What I Found On My Missing Cousin's Phone

I don’t really know how to do a proper intro to this type of thing. I just want to get to the point. My cousin Peter wasn’t returning my aunt’s phone calls and texts for 2 days straight, so she went to his house and used the spare key to get inside after Peter didn’t come to the door.
What she told the officers (and my mom) was that she found all his things untouched. His car was still parked in the driveway, none of his things were taken, and there were no signs of a break-in.
Basically, it was like he vanished into thin air. The only out of place thing that was found was Peter’s phone laying face-down in the hallway upstairs.
Authorities searched his phone, but all they found was a bunch of missed voicemails and texts from friends and relatives begging him to answer. The phone was returned to my aunt, and with her too distraught to notice, I took the phone.
I know it was wrong, but I was six at the time and barely understood what had happened to my cousin anyway. I just saw a free phone and took my opportunity to take it and download some games and watch YouTube. After a while of using the phone for dumb kid stuff, I got a notification from the “notes” app telling me to pick up where I left off.
I hadn’t used the notes app since getting my hands on the phone, so I was curious as to what my cousin had been writing before he lost his phone. I didn’t understand the weight of my findings at the time, but I’ve recently heard of an internet phenomenon known as the Backrooms, and it brought back memories of what Peter had described in his final set of notes.
I’ve since grown up and moved out of my old family house, but I managed to find the old phone and get it charged up again. It took an awkward text to my aunt asking what the password to Peter’s old phone was, but I managed to unlock the phone and reread my cousins’ last few messages before he… well, you’ll know what I mean after I share them with you.
But why am I posting this here of all places? Well, for starters, the messages sound like some sick prank, so the authorities and my relatives wouldn’t believe me even if I showed them the messages. It also might cause my aunt unwanted grief over something that happened so long ago, which leads me to my final reason: it’s just been too much time. The case has been closed, and my aunt has finally recovered all that she can.
But even if I can’t tell anyone my findings, I can still make sure Peter’s last messages to the world don’t go unseen. I can’t help but feel some guilt for not telling anyone what I found, so maybe I’m also doing this to clear my conscience.
But I’ve been on about this too long. Let me just show you what I found.

July 3, 2003
I’ve tried telling my friends about the door, but they just don’t believe me. It doesn’t help that the door always disappears whenever I try to show them. It doesn't appear in pictures either, and after a quick examination of my house from the outside, there doesn’t seem to be a room behind the door. It’s just not possible. I want to see what’s behind it. I really do. I just get this feeling of… dread when I go to open it. I need some sleep

July 4, 2003 (This was written past midnight, so it’s counted as a new day)
I can’t sleep. Every time I do, I have the same dream. It starts off fine, normal, actually. I’m downstairs watching something on TV, I can’t remember what. For some reason, I can’t help but feel like I’m being watched from my staircase, but I can’t turn to look. Eventually, the power goes out, and I can move. I go upstairs to get a flashlight from my room, and the door is wide open. It’s so dark that I can’t see what’s on the other side, but I feel whatever it is calling me. My legs start to carry me towards the door, and I wake up. I’m so fucking tired.

July 6, 2003
I can’t. I just can’t. I want to cover the door, but I’m scared to get close to it. I keep having the same dream, but when I wake up I’m in my hallway in front of the door. One time, I woke up with my hand moving towards the handle. I told my mom about it, but I couldn’t show her any pictures. I’m scared.

July 9, 2003
No one can help me. No one believes me. I’ve been staying in a motel for the past few days. I can’t be in the same house as that door, but I see it in my dreams. Now the dream doesn’t even start off fine, It’s just me standing in front of the door in a dark hallway. I’m fucking done. I’m opening the door, and I’m ending this shit.

July 10, 2003
I’m in a new place now. The rooms keep repeating. How is this even possible? There is no time in this place. My only way of measuring time is my phone’s clock. No one can help.

July 10, 2003 (All his new messages are written on the same day, but he writes them like it’s been days since the last)
Every door leads to a new room. There are kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms and bathrooms. There are no clocks, but there is food and water. There is no windows, but there are places to sleep and use the bathroom. Hell, there’s even toothbrushes and toothpaste here. Someone could get lost in here forever.

July 10, 2003
I’ve mapped out as many rooms as I can. I’ve got a bit more knowledge on the layout of this place. It’s an infinite place. It provides for those inside it. But it never lets them leave.

July 10, 2003
Something is wrong. I know now which rooms I’ve already been in, but things have been moved around. Beds that I’ve slept in already have been made, fridges have been left open with food missing. Someone is here with me. I need to find them.

July 10, 2003
I saw them. I chased them. I lost my way. I’m lost again, but this time it’s different. The rooms are cold. The carpets are damp. The lights are dim. The fridges are empty. The shower curtains are filled with mold. I’m being watched.

July 10, 2003
This place isn’t the same. The rooms are entirely different. They are dark concrete chambers with barely any light. I’m going to die here. Im going to die here Im going to die here Im going to die

July 10, 2003
They keep scratching at the walls. Their screams ring in my ears. Im so cold. Their hands grab at my arms, my feet, my neck, they want to keep me here with them.

July 10, 2003
Something has changed. They seem more desperate to keep me here. They tell me to turn back, that Im going to get hurt. But I think I’m getting close to the end. God help me.

July 10, 2003
I found my way back to the door. Not the one from my house, but the one from my dream. And I know now what’s on the other side. It’s… horrifying. Their bodies writhe in agony, their cries for mercy echo into the void. They yell as if anyone can hear them. And on top of his throne of mangled flesh and bone, there he sits. The one who’s been calling me back to the door. I can barely even describe him. He almost looks like

I don’t even know what to think. I don’t remember the messages sounding like that. I don’t know what even happened to Peter anymore. I think he must’ve had some kind of mental breakdown, unless I want to believe what he wrote about in his final messages is really true. I just don’t know anymore.
My findings have only reinforced my decision not to tell anyone in my family about this. This is my weight to carry, since maybe we could’ve tracked him down in time to stop him from disappearing completely if I had just told my family about what I found all those years ago.
I don’t even think it matters much now anyway. As much as I want to believe that everything Peter described wasn’t true, I just can’t convince myself anymore. It may have been coincidence, but last night I fell asleep and had one of the worst nightmares I’ve had in a while.
I’m standing in front of a blood red door, with darkness all around me. It’s cold in this place, so cold I want to shiver, but I can’t. I’m paralyzed. I’m helpless to do anything but watch as the door swings open, and I gaze into what’s beyond. A swirling void of madness and tortured souls, begging me to turn back.
And in the center of it all, there he sits.

2024.06.09 21:01 Jus17173 Depth of Madness - Chapter 3 - (Edge of Madness book 2)

Book One: Edge of Madness - Chapter One First Chapter Previous
They called him the champion of the Talisi. A lost prince, a man touched by the Gods. They spoke his name in the same context as the Vigons. They regarded him as one would a holy object, placed there to remind all that hope is not lost. Mairek lay in a bed weaved of vine reeds. He felt hopeless, encroached on all sides by a looming dread he could not quite determine its source. There were expectations that had to be met. With hope came the assurance of victory and the Talisi wanted war. They wanted to parade him at the forefront of the Talisi Green army. Dress him in green metal and have him wield half a spear.
Yes, half a spear. His signature trade mark. It was half a spear he'd used upon the Ganidan plain, all those months ago. It was half a spear that he'd used to turn the tide against the Binorians. And here, in his room within the Palace. It is half a spear that lay beside him.
He'd tried to return to Jamou, the village he and Ishar hailed from. But the Talisi would not have it. An entire cohort came for him, his father had stood outside their home, tears of disbelief streaming down his face as he watched his son being dragged away to Central Talisi. To stand before the new King of the Talisi, the late King Gans's son, King Mogich. There, before the King, he was forced to retell the events of the Ganidan Plain. Where forty thousand Talisi men had stood against half a million Binorian Legions. Where Talisi had lost its king. The Red Priests of Meena had gathered around the silver throne of the King, intent on discrediting his every word for his theatrics upon the plain did not come as a result of his connection to their Goddess Meena. No. It was another God's blessing that had been bestowed upon him.
A blessing that ensured he was free of the bubble of time. A blessing that enabled him to foretell the future, experience the present and derive meaning from the past in a way nobody ever has or will. He was against the flow of time, not as Ishar was with his blessing of chaos, no, for him perception graced his every thought and action. And time, ever present, sought a way to purge him free of the realm. But for now it ignored him as did he it.
He rejected the giant chamber that had been offered him. The windows were dangerous, a stray arrow from the Army practicing grounds could find him in his bed as he lay asleep. He rejected servants for one might accidentally trip and wash him with scalding hot water meant for his bath. Every option afforded him came with the tinge of time and its need to be rid of him. He evaded all options before they availed themselves and here, he found himself now. In a single room, narrow with four walls all around. No windows, no servants. The only opening a door and ventilation shaft above the door. Time had no means of ending him where he lay.
A wasp entered the room from the ventilation shaft, it buzzed as it explored its new found abode. Mairek grabbed the half spear laying beside his bed. He lifted and flicked it across the dimly lit room, the only light a lantern that was dwindling in fuel. The half spear spun across the room and collided with the wall before settling on the ground. At its tip sat the impaled wasp. The sharp point had impaled it through its thorax and its threat was no more. Mairek sighed and lifted his eyes to the ceiling. What I would give, Ishar, to be back in Jamou with you. You tending sheep and me tending my broken heart, where are you Ishar? I crave chaos, an end to this tide that I swim against.
It started as a cough from a servant in the Palace's coal chamber. A chamber maid tripped and fell with a curse. A Red priest yawned and within seconds Mairek knew what was happening. The movements people indulged in, the things thought to be accidents. The gestures and words and platitudes. They were all weaves upon the tapestry of time. A knock sounded at his door. He got up and answered it. Parting the door enough to confirm the heart beats he'd expected were indeed of the five men before him.
Tall men, taller than he, bulky with swords strapped to their sides. Adorned in leather armor. The best killers in Talisi. Killers hired to kill him. They had objected of course, objected the task of ridding Talisi of the only one of them who could channel a God. But Tari, Princess of Talisi and sister to King Mogich, had offered them a price they could not refuse. She hated him, of course, hated him because he was part of her father's death. Part of the reason she no longer had a father. Sure, it was Ishar who'd led King Gans to a war facing impossible odds. But Ishar wasn't around. Nobody knew where the Kolotian and his lover, Niada, had gone to. So it was up to him to suffer the consequences.
"The King requires your presence." The one at the forefront said with a slight bow. The rest of the men rested their hands on the hilt of their blades. A clear sign that they were agitated, wary even. Mariek smiled.
"You carry swords, isn't it customary for the Green Army to prefer spears save in close combat? An ideal condition such as now?" Mariek asked.
The one who'd spoken to him chuckled. "We're used to the weight of the blade, Champion of the Talisi."
Champion of the Talisi. The title was a bane to him. He wanted to thrash against its constraints, to run away, flee from the duty it demanded of him. It was mid afternoon. The Palace wasn't as packed as it was during the early hours of the day. The King would never demand his presence at night so this was the best time for their ruse. Where would they lead him to? Where would he meet his end?
"Where is the King?" Mairek asked.
"He's at the Conicual Garden, west of the Palace bridge." Their leader answered. Mairek nodded. That would be an ideal place to die. It'll give him a chance to see the river curving through Talisi, to observe the sinking sun and to be kindred once more with all that went on around him. He felt time's gentle nudge, beckoning him into its embrace where his death will spell an end to his torment. An end to the struggle against time, a struggle he was sure he could not win. Why then shouldn't he relent? Throw in the towel and call it quits? What value marked him, that a God would pick him above the rest? No, Nielda had made a mistake. What was even the point of going all the way to the garden? Wouldn't it be fitting for his end to be quick?
"I hear the King," Mairek said. "He is speaking to the Chief Palace servant about a cartload of wine due from Remu. He is in the throne room, not the garden." The men shuffled uneasily. "You're here to kill me." He took a step back, leaving his door ajar. He went to the center of the room, knelt down and bore his neck to them. "Make it quick, a quick thrust in the neck ought to do it. But then again, you guys are the experts."
They hesitated. Each uncertain of their purpose. Mairek hated uncertainty, decisions spell the destiny time offers. To titter on the brink of a decision is to waylay time's purpose. "Be quick about it! Bastards!" That did it. They lunged towards him, swords rasping as they flew free of their scabbards. The point of the swords came to him and Mairek welcomed them, a smile played across his face. It was going to be over. He closed his eyes, waited for the sword tips to bite skin, draw blood. End his life. He waited a span of seconds and nothing seemed to happen. He opened his eyes, observed the blades inches from him, frozen in time.
"You fucking cunt." Nielda, the God of Space and Time spoke from behind him. He turned, found the God lounging on his reed bed. His skin was as dark as the midnight sky, and stars riddled it. His hair, like puffs of a cloud hovered about his head. His green eyes observed him with a haughty air Mairek had become used to.
"Nielda." He said, turning to regard the God who'd chosen him as his Champion.
"You can kill them all, all five of them as you did the wasp. Yet, here you kneel, like a weakling, welcoming their blades. You paint a sorry sight. Diva." Nielda said. Diva, the word was misused by the God, having dwelt so long in the place between sky and moon, the God had lost touch with humanity, his vigil against a darkness he was hesitant to comment on had stripped Nielda of knowledge regarding the advancement of the human race.
"I just want it to end, I know no peace, Nielda. No peace at all." Mairek said. He got up off the ground, went to the rear end of the reed bed and placed himself there. Close to the naked feet of the God. The dusk colored robe adorning Nielda shifted as he sat up to regard his champion.
"Peace? When a buck grazes in the Talisi wilderness, no predator in sight. Does he regard the moment afforded it as peaceful? Does it relish in it, hence lowering its guard to fully appreciate the ambiance that comes with a lack of danger? Peace is a fickle thing, the buck knows this. Its ears are ever alert lest the sound of a Yendw wolf's approach marks the end of its peace. Is that then, what peace is? A moment between danger, afforded by pure circumstance? If such a thing is peace then what benefit is craving something you know will have an end?" Nielda raised his hand and scratched at his scalp, the hair floating about it parted for a brief moment. The God rarely had mannerisms similar to that of mankind but as time went, Mairek noticed changes in the God's disposition. "Think of your time since leaving the Ganidan Plain, Diva, has there been any instance when your life was threatened save now? Can this then be regarded as a peaceful period, a time when time has ignored you and thus given you a period of rest? Of course time wouldn't ignore you forever, it must seek to right an anomaly and you should liken this as a Yendw wolf's paw upon a branch, young buck, and this should drive you to flee knowing that the peace afforded you has reached its end."
Mairek sat with his knees brought up and his arms circling the crest of his legs. He nodded his acquiesce. His eyes moved to the five men, frozen in time, their blades pointed at where he once knelt awaiting a quick death. The buck would not await the maw of the Yendw wolf, it will flee if possible and if not it would fight, hoping for a brief respite from death that might grant it another period of peace. Is this then what peace is? "I hear everything Nielda." Mairek started. "I see everything, even with my eyes closed. I feel everything as if my hand is forever grasping things and my tongue tastes things that I am yet to consume. Is this gift of yours a mark of peace? How will my sanity be anchored to me with all that I perceive?"
Nielda sighed. "You're a dumbass Mairek. A dumbass, if you can hear everything why don't you focus on the sound that pleases you the most? If you can see everything why not focus on an image that delights your soul? Perception is not confounded on the whole, you can focus on specific aspects of it that appease you."
"Is that what you did when you hovered above space for thousands of years? Did you focus on a specific sound while you were up there among the stars?" Mairek pushed. He knew if he kept up a barrage of questions regarding Nielda's time guarding the darkness above from an ancient evil, he might gleam something... Anything that would paint a vivid picture for him, a picture whose purpose he was yet sure of.
Nielda stared at Mairek and his eyes flashed a bright blue. The assassins started moving slowly and Mairek knew that time was regaining its flow. "No." Nielda said. "The one whose voice I wanted to hear was silent."
Time resumed its course and the assassins thrust into open air. Missing their mark. They turned, puzzled expressions about their faces to regard Mairek at the foot of the reed bed. Mairek sighed. "Your deaths won't be on my head." He said as he stood up.

The sun pierced the earth with its morning glow. Palace servants shambled about, eager to get on with their work. Guards stationed in various Palace compartments stood at alert, stifling yawns and conversing in low tones. The Palace kitchen was alight with activity, cooks chattered as dough rose and logs were fed into furnaces. Chamber maids emptied chamber pots. The King sat upon his throne and offered a silent prayer to Meena with the aid of the Red Priests, as it was custom for the King of Talisi with every new dawn. The gardeners tended the Conicual garden, pruning branches and inspecting bright colored petals. The daily routine of the Palace was under way, without a single anomaly felt or seen by all within the Palace.
It started as a scream when the maid sent to bring him his morning meal came across him leaving his tiny compartment. The maid ran away, screaming like a banshee and flinging his tray of food to the ground. Mairek flexed his shoulders and started walking towards Princess Tari's bed chamber. Where he knew she was inspecting an assortment of dresses, picking the best she would dawn for the first half of the day. With the maid's screams came the shuffling of feet, guards, cooks, gardeners, maids, Red Priests. They all flocked towards him, and when their eyes beheld him, they halted, words escaped them. Trembling gripped their limbs and all they could do was stare. They flanked him on all sides, and followed behind him at a distance. He did not turn his head to either side, he ignored them as he ignored the blood that trailed his path, marking his wake.
At another time, in another place. The five decapitated heads he held by their hair, three on his right hand and two on his left, would have sickened him. Their weight would have pulled at his soul and he would have been distressed by the action he was undertaking. But now, he felt nothing. He experienced everything and felt nothing. I am a buck, antlers riddled with the blood of a Yendw wolf, affording me an extended period of peace. And that was all he could define the moment as.
The Guards he came across took one look at him and let him pass, none too eager to test his patience. He climbed the steps leading to Princess Tari's chambers. A throng of Palace personnel behind him. The two Guards flanking either side of the Chamber's door halted him, placing heavy gauntleted hands on his chest.
"You cannot pass." One of them said, he towered over him and Mairek raised his head to observe him. He was aware of what a sight he was. Blood was sprinkled upon his face and stained his arms. The heads dripped blood on the floor and the smell of iron was rich wherever he went.
Mairek closed his eyes, felt the touch of the gauntlets upon his chest, he allowed himself to drift into the metal, to learn of its origin and how they came to be where they were now, upon him. The past is a vast sea, to swim its depths one requires a mind that can fragment, be two places at once, and in that current at the bed of time he was able to learn what he needed. He opened his eyes and turned his head to either guard. "These gauntlets, you place them on the bath house door, parting it gently to observe the Princess as she baths. A wretched thing both of you do, ogling the one you're tasked to protect. A simple reprimand wouldn't be enough, I will see both your heads on a spike at the Palace baths if you do not give me leave to do as I plan. I mean to cause no harm." He could not see their faces behind their helms, but he knew the look of shock and shame spread upon their visage. Shame, the anointed cousin of retreat, see as his gauntlets lower from my chest. See as they withdraw within, each of them eager to be rid of me within a miasma of indifference.
The Guards parted. Mairek raised a leg and knocked down the chamber door with one swift kick. The door sprung free of its hinges, tumbled and collapsed onto the ground, close to the foot of the Chamber bed. A good five feet within the Chamber. Tari stood, half naked with maids around her, her bosom rich and full, stilled as she regarded him. Then heaved as she saw what he dragged into her chamber.
Mairek walked onto the door and flung the heads onto the bed, watched as the blood seeped into the white linen cover of the duvet. Staining it a bright crimson. The heads stared in various poses, unblinking, sightless. Princess Tari gawked at them then raised her eyes to meet his.
"Their blood is on your head." Mairek said and turned around to depart. Those crowded behind him parted and in his wake eyes followed his retreating back.

How to Make Authentic German Käsespätzle (Cheese Spaetzle) at Home
Food
Deep in the heart of southern Germany, you'll find one of the country's most iconic and crave-worthy dishes - käsespätzle. This rustic yet incredibly rich and satisfying meal of fresh egg noodles baked in a blend of creamy cheeses until deliciously crispy is absolute comfort food perfection.
While spätzle (those tiny, irregular noodle dumplings) originated as a simple dish for peasants, käsespätzle has become a beloved specialty in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. It reigns as the ultimate alpine soul food after a cold day on the slopes or hiking in the mountains.
If you've traveled to Germany and had an authentic käsespätzle at a local gasthaus or chalet, you know just how insanely good it can be. The flavors of the nutty gruyere-style cheeses combined with the crispy oven-baked edges and pockets of gooey cheese is something forever burned into memory.
The great news? It's totally possible to replicate this famous German dish at home with relative ease. Read on for the step-by-step instructions for making real-deal käsespätzle that will transport you straight to a cozy ski chalet.
Käsespätzle Ingredients:
For the Spätzle:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
For the Cheese Sauce:
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1⁄2 cups warm milk
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1⁄2 tsp salt
  • 1⁄4 tsp white pepper
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere or emmentaler cheese
  • 1 cup shredded fontina or gouda cheese
  • 1⁄2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
You'll also need:
  • A spätzle maker or coarse cheese grater
  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Large pot of salted boiling water
Instructions:
Make the Spätzle Batter
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and nutmeg. Create a well in the center and add the eggs and warm milk.
  2. Use a wooden spoon to gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet until a thick, sticky batter forms. Mix in the melted butter until fully incorporated.
  3. Cover and let the batter rest at room temperature for 30 minutes. This is an important step to allow the flour to fully hydrate. Shape the Spätzle Dumplings
  4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  5. Place your spätzle maker (or a colandebox grater with large holes) over the boiling water.
  6. Scoop portions of the batter onto the maker and use a rubber spatula or spätzle presse to push the batter through the holes/grater and into the boiling water.
  7. Let the spätzle dumplings cook for 2-3 minutes until they float to the surface. Then remove them to a colander with a slotted spoon.
  8. Toss the boiled spätzle in a bowl with a bit of butter or oil to prevent sticking while you make the cheese sauce. Prepare the German Cheese Sauce
  9. In a saucepan, melt the 3 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes to form a roux.
  10. Gradually whisk in the warm milk and bring to a simmer until thickened.
  11. Remove from heat and whisk in the mustard, salt, white pepper, and all the shredded cheeses until fully melted and smooth. Bake the Käsespätzle
  12. Grease a 9x13 baking dish and spread half of the cooked spätzle across the bottom in an even layer.
  13. Pour half of the prepared cheese sauce over top, making sure to get some sauce in all the nooks and crannies.
  14. Layer the remaining spätzle over the cheese sauce, then pour the rest of the cheesy sauce over top.
  15. Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes until bubbling and the top is browned and crispy in spots. 16. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving hot with your choice of toppings (see below).
Tasty Serving Suggestions:
  • Baked käsespätzle is amazing just on its own!
  • Top with crispy bacon, browned onions or sauteed mushrooms.
  • Drizzle with a touch of white wine, beer, or cream.
  • Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley or chives.
  • Serve with a tart green salad or vinegary cucumber salad to cut the richness.
A Few Pro Tips:
  • For the lightest, fluffiest spätzle, let the batter rest for a full 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Shred your own cheeses off the block rather than purchasing pre-shredded for a smoother sauce.
  • Add a shot of kirsch (cherry brandy) or a few pads of butter to the cheese sauce for extra richness and flavor.
  • Don't overcook your spätzle in the boiling water - drain them once they float.
  • Get the authentic crispy browned edges and cheese pockets by baking the käsespätzle at least 25 minutes.
Make Ahead Instructions: You can absolutely make the spätzle and cheese sauce ahead of time and refrigerate them separately for 2-3 days before assembling and baking.
When ready to bake, let the cheese sauce come to room temperature or warm it gently before combining with the boiled spätzle. Add a touch of milk if it seems overly thick. Then bake as instructed for the golden brown crispy edges.
Whether you're serving up käsespätzle as a soul-warming meal on a chilly day or bringing a bit of alpine Germany to your table, this irresistibly gooey yet crispy cheese and noodle dish is sure to be a crowd pleaser. With a couple of simple components made ahead, it's an easily achievable way to experience an iconic Bavarian specialty in your very own kitchen.

2024.06.09 20:58 ConspiracyTheoristO7 Yuba County Five (AKA American Dyatlov Pass): Information about the Basketball Coach

I am obsessed with the Yuba county five case. I consider myself an expert on this case, and I have some interesting information to share. For those of you who are new to the case, here's a summary:
The Yuba County Five were five men living with their parents ranging from the ages of 24 to 32 that all had mild intellectual disabilities or mental illness who disappeared on Friday, February 24, 1978 while going to watch a basketball game in Chico, California. The five were: Ted Weiher, who was 32, Jack Madruga, who was 30, Bill Sterling, who was 29, Gary Mathias, who was 25, and Jackie Huet, who was 24. Gary Mathias was the only one of the five that had a mental illness, which was schizophrenia, and which he was very well medicated for. The five were part of the Gateway Projects, which was a vocational training center for people with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and for drug addicts as well. The five were collectively referred to as The Boys by their friends and families. All five were part of a basketball team that was sponsored by Gateway Projects called the Gateway Gators. They were supposed to play in a game of their own on the morning of Saturday, February 25 in Rocklin, which is near Sacramento, but they were never seen alive after 10 pm on February 24, after they watched the game in Chico. After about 3 months of searching, four of the five were found dead up in the Plumas National Forest in or around some forestry service trailers. Only Gary Mathias was never found, and still remains a missing person to this day. The Yuba County Five is still an open federal case.
(Note: I will call the Yuba county five "The Boys", not out of disrespect but because that is what their families used to and still do call them).
I have seen suspicion cast on the Gateway Gator's coach, whom I will call Bob. That's not his name really, but he is still alive, so I can't really name him. Some people have theorized that maybe he was involved in The Boys' disappearance for several reasons:
  1. The Boys and the coach were supposed to meet at a department store at 8 am Saturday Feb 25 for their basketball tournament. If I recall correctly, the coach (Bob) was maybe supposed to drive them himself in a van to the game or maybe they were suppose to take a bus together. Bob never showed up at the established meeting point.
  2. The coach never helped looked for The Boys during any of the searches. Which is odd, since he knew them. You would think that he cared and that he would help look for them.
  3. The coach, while being questioned, was rather hostile toward the police, and in the case files, it stated he was "nonchalant." The coach did not give a reason for why he did not show up at the rendez-vous time on Feb 25 and did not help out the police.
  4. In the case files, it states that the coach purportedly gave character statements of The Boys to the police but he described almost all of them wrong. For example: Bob describe Ted Weiher as "aggressive" even though by those who knew him, he was not. He described Bill Sterling as "intelligent but lazy." By those who knew him, he was not lazy on the basketball court at all or lazy in his community. Bill was actually very active. Bob supposedly described Gary Mathias as "spacey and could flip out at any time," even though by those who knew Gary, he was incredibly stable on his meds and no one who knew Gary described him as "spacey" or "distant." Bob also claimed that he had a few confrontations with Jack Madruga, even though Jack almost never fought with anyone and was not a confrontational kind of guy.
  5. I have heard that the coach has a small criminal record and that he was charged with assault. I could not find the details for the charge though and I'm not entirely sure if it's true.
Well, Drew Beeson, a true crime writer who wrote a book on this case, actually interviewed Bob, the Boy's coach, several months ago. Bob, as it turns out, is in his late seventies, living in Florida, and was willing to talk about what he remembers of that time. Bob was employed by Gateway Projects and I think he helped to form the Gateway Gators. He was friends with Donald Garrett, who was the director of Gateway Projects before he got murdered in 1975. Bob's car was one of the firebombed cars during the terrible Gateway firebombing attacks that occurred in the mid seventies. (If you want more info on this attacks go here: https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/hv6t8p/in\_1975\_the\_gateway\_center\_for\_the\_handicapped\_in/).
Besides being the coach for the Gateway Gators, he was also a rehab councilor. Bob stated that he knew The Boys quite well and that he took them on a 3 day trip to Redondo Beach California in 1977, where they stayed at a 4 star hotel. The Boys were treated to a special dinner and other basketball players were there too as part of a special event.
Bob stated that The Boys were a very close-knit group. He said that "The Yuba County Five were the entire Gateway Projects adult male basketball team." The Gateway Gators also included a sixth backup man. This sixth man was not really close to the other five and was significantly more intellectually disabled compared to Ted, Jack, Bill, and Jackie. As a result, he did not really play in their team. I cannot name this sixth man because he is most likely still alive.
Bob stated in the interview that The Boys were all highly functional, including Jackie Huet, of which many claim (falsely) that he was the most disabled of the group. Bob was asked in the interview if he ever recalled seeing Gary Mathias acting as if he could freak out at any minute or go haywire or have some sort of emotional outburst at any time and Bob said "No." Bob stated that he never saw Gary have any outburst of any kind or felt that he would. Bob said that he never saw Gary push somebody, punch somebody, or get violent with anybody. Bob did state that Gary was the most competitive player out of the group, though, and that he took the basketball games quite seriously. What's strange is the stark contrast with what Bob said about Gary in 1978 and what he now says about Gary in 2024. Drew Beeson said that he believes that it is very possible that the quotes that Bob supposedly said about the Boys back in 1978 in the case files were falsely or mistakenly attributed to him. What is also interesting is that Drew Beeson said that while he was interviewing Bob, he did not seem really aware that Gary had schizophrenia. Bob was also not aware that Gary Mathias had a driver's license.
Bob stated in the interview that all of The Boys were very interested in girls and really enjoyed going to the co-ed dances held by the Gateway Projects.
Bob was also asked if he believed that it was possible that The Boys got lost during the drive home after going to see the basketball game in Chico on February 24, and Bob stated this, very adamantly:
"No, I do not think so. They were all what I considered highly functional. They would have known the area around Oroville and north of Oroville look nothing like the Yuba City area and they would have simply turned around or stopped and ask for directions home."
Bob stated that he also did not believe that Gary having a freak out could have gotten them lost either. As far as I can tell, I do not see a reason for Bob to lie and pretend that the Boys were more "functional" (for a lack of a better term) than they were.
Bob stated in the interview that the reason he did not meet at the rendez-vous time on the morning of February 25 for the game was that one of The Boy's mothers actually called him earlier that morning (like around 5 or 6 am) to ask him if he had seen The Boys and to tell him that they did not come home. Personally, I find it strange that he did not show up at the rendez vous because it's not like he knew for sure that they were not going to show up at the department store. I also find it suspicious that he never helped out with the searches. He also stated that he was hostile toward the police because he did not like them, especially after the whole Gateway firebombing incidents, which the police never solved. Bob said he was working at Gateway at the time of the firebombings and believes that Donald Garrett's girlfriend's ex husband was to blame for the arson attacks. Personally, his excuse for acting nonchalant does not make sense. Just because you do not like the police, doesn't make it okay to be indifferent that people you knew went missing. I still find the coach suspicious, but...
What do you think of this information?

2024.06.09 20:56 Annie_miezenbeek_11 AITA for dropping off the face of the earth (blocking) for how someone acted?

(TW: S.A)
I (17f) blocked a childhood friend (16m) for how they acted while I was at hit house. For context: he had reached out to me last year to confess his love for me but I was in a situation where I couldn't respond as I wasn't in communications with anyone because of not having a phone. Once I re logged back into my Instagram at the end of the year, I had received a message from this friend ( we will call him kurt) confessing to me along with an interesting amount of voice and video calls. At this time I was already in a relationship but that soon ended in March of this year. A few days ago (close to a week) I reached out to Kurt saying that I'd give it a go, but what put me off immediately was the fact he said I love you within the first 5 minutes of the talking stage we were in. I decided with myself that yes, I get the ick from this guy but also I should give him a chance so I said that if he wanted for me to come over that I could. He immediately jumped and said yes but my gut was not feeling it which ended up with me communicating with my friends that I felt uncomfortable but was gonna go to give him a chance. When I got to his house everything was okay, he did try and grab my ass while we were watching a movie before dinner but everything was okay... until we were going to bed. I had been sitting on the couch reading a online book from my phone when he asked me to lay with him on one of the mattresses that were in the living room for us (separated) I ended my putting my phone down and laying with him for a little before I pretended to be asleep (I did this to see what he would do so I knew what to expect for when I was actually asleep) Kurt began rubbing my thighs and trying to make out with what he assumed to be me but asleep. I won't go into detail on what else he did but I will say his touching got way to close for comfort and I froze up. After he got up and went to the other mattress I "pretended to wake up" to grab my phone and distracted myself with music and ended up falling asleep actually. I woke up in the morning still feeling uneasy and about 20 minutes after, I got a call from my close friend checking in on me but it wasn't until after I left Kurt's that I told him the whole story (I wasn't on call with my friend the whole morning). After Kurt's mum dropped me off at the shopping center because that's where I had said my dad was picking me up, I immediately called my close friend and explained what had happened, I ended up having a panic attack in the middle of everyone but my friend advised to block him on everything so that's what I did but last night I was getting messages from Kurt and his friends trying to talk to me and getting me to talk to Kurt but I proceeded to block his friends too. I know im not ready to talk to kurt again especially with him still calling himself my boyfriend which gave me the ick even more but i dont know what i should do. Am I the Ahole?
