2024.05.09 15:13 mlc35772 Old script for 9hp, from neo

YouTube Video Script for 9Hp, from Neobandit about Accidental Rares/ Alt-ID items/ Smuggled items.
1, Mining and Smithing Flier- These were passed out by npcs for a short period of time during January 2019 to advertise the Mining and Smithing rework and could have been read for a short summary of the rework. Now when attempting to read the flyer it will vanish leaving behind the message "Too late - it's gone!" (so dont read them now).Once the fanatics were removed with the release of the Mining & Smithing Rework, the flyers became unobtainable. The flyer cannot be traded via the Grand Exchange however may be traded in-person. According to the wiki, Jagex does not recognize the mining and smithing fliers as discontinued Items. However, they are unobtainable now and treated as discontinued items by some collectors.
2. Rare Raw Shrimp, Bones, and Pot of Flour- These rare/smuggled items were obtainable from the Tutorial Island before an update that made them become unobtainable on July 2008. Although they share the same name and appearance as their common counterparts, there are ways of telling them apart. Firstly, unlike their common counterparts, these items cannot be traded via the grand exchange but only via player to player trades. Secondly, the rare pot of flour has a slightly different appearance than normal, has a high alch value of 6 coins rather than 8, and does not have an "empty pot" option like normal. The rare bones have a different examine text than common bones; The rare bones examine text says, "these bones are for burying!", while the common bones examine text has a period rather than an exclamation point. Since these items have different item IDs from their common counterparts, they do not stack in bank or when noted. Because of this, players with the rare variation of bones, raw shrimp, or pot of flour will often show 2 noted forms of the item to prove its authenticity, one stack of the rare variation and one stack of commons. This practice of showing two stacks of items that share the same name/icon is done with most of the non ge rare and smuggled items to prove authenticity.
3. Rare Bronze gauntlets - Rune gauntlets- According to the wiki, bronze-rune gauntlets were originally obtained as a reward from the Fist of Guthix minigame. They were changed in the 10 August 2015 update to drop from monsters; On 7 January 2019, the mining and smithing update did not convert some of the gauntlets into metal item tokens, thus creating two forms of bronze through rune gauntlets. Just like the tutorial island items, they share the same name and appearance as their common counterparts and cannot be traded via the grand exchange but only via player-to-player trades. Since these items have different item IDs from their common counterparts, they do not stack in bank or when noted. The rare variations of the gauntlets also have different high alch values in the price checker. The normal rune gauntlets have a high alch value of 500 coins, while the rare variation has a high alch value of 4500 coins. The normal steel gauntlets have a high alch value of 100 coins while its rare variation has a high alch value of 600 coins. Also, the rare variations have the examine text: "i have to keep my hands safe!" instead of the normal examine text: "a pair of rune/steel gauntlets." The rare bronze/iron/mithril/addy gauntlets are much rarer than the rare rune/steel gauntlets.
4. Rare burnt lobster-The rare variation of the burnt lobster was accidently created on 4 March 2013, after an update that made burnt food stack in your inventory. According to the wiki, two different types of burnt lobster exist, mostly due to the way the aforementioned update was handled. When the update hit, all noted versions of burnt items were updated, losing the functionality of notes and getting the same inventory icon as their normal counterpart. Visually, these items cannot be distinguished; however, while the common burnt lobster later received an "Eat" option, the previously noted items did not. The rarity of the previously noted type of burnt lobsters comes from the fact that not many people had large quantities of burnt lobsters in their inventory when the update occurred.
5. Magical Bunny, Lamb, and Chick eggs- These magical eggs could be won from Treasure Hunter on 17 April 2014. They can be activated to turn the player into a baby bunny, lamb, or chick respectively for a brief duration, and then the egg will be consumed. It can also be eaten to heal 200 life points. As a discontinued item, it is now considered a tradeable rare. It was made available again during the "Second Chance" Treasure Hunter Promotion from 2 April to 7 April 2015. You can only trade this with other players, not in the grand exchange
6. Diamond Jubilee foods- The Diamond Jubilee was a street party in Varrock prepared for Queen Elizabeth II that began on 29 May 2012 and ended on 13 June 2012. In celebration, Varrock square had been filled with tables for a Jubilee feast, special commemorative stalls and Jubilee themed decorations. Among these commemorative stalls was one called "Exotic foods," owned by Bang Ersenmash and found on the east side of the square. This stall sold 5 exclusive British-themed foods: cream teas, coronation chicken sandwiches, fish 'n' chips, steak and kidney pies, and full breakfasts. On 13 June 2012, most of these foods were removed from game. However, some of these food items have somehow remained in game after the update and are now traded amongst players.
Rare POF Animals
7. Araxyte Spider- Araxyte spiders are a breed of spiders that may be raised on the player-owned farm. One can be obtained by checking an araxyte spider egg or by trading with another player. There are 6 types of Araxyte spider pairs (male/female): the 1-trait non-shiny, 2 trait non-shiny, 3 trait non-shiny, 1 trait shiny!, 2 trait shiny!, and 3 trait shiny! pairs. The names and traits of the spiders do not matter since they can be rerolled, although some traits cannot. The 1 trait shiny! araxyte spider pair can still be obtained by checking an araxyte spider egg, a very rare drop from Araxxi. However, all other Araxyte spider pairs are discontinued following an update on 29 July 2019, which caused Araxyte spiders no longer being able to be bred from existing Araxyte spiders.
8. Two-trait Radiant Animals- According to word of mouth, when Player-owned farm was relatively new, there was a bug that caused the second trait to be missing from the bred animals. Since the Radiant trait can only be in the 3rd trait slot and usually slots aren't skipped, many players who are unaware of the bug will say that having a 2t Radiant animal is impossible. However, they do exist. Although animals without the radiant trait can also have the second trait missing, Radiant Animals can easily be shown to have its second trait missing by glossing over them with the mouse to see they only have two-traits. Some 2t Radiant animals are rarer than others, since more prized animals would have most likely been kept while more common animals would be traded for beans before the bug was discovered.
Special mentions: "Glitched" or "smuggled" items.
(Tutorial Island items are considered smuggled)
9. New Varrock Cabbage- This cabbage exists in an area of RuneScape known as New Varrock. Items within New Varrock cannot be taken outside the area..usually. Some players have found a way to "smuggle" these items outside the area via a glitch of some kind, allowing them to trade these items with other players anywhere. These items cannot be traded on the grand exchange but can be traded player to player. Now concerning the cabbage, it shares the same name and appearance as normal cabbage. however, it does have a small sword icon next to its name in unnoted form. Since there is also a draynor cabbage that shares the same name and appearance as normal cabbage as well, players must show 3 stacks of cabbage in noted form to prove the authenticity of the New Varrock Cabbage.
10. Zemomark, zombie cowhide, chocolate cake, stew, beer, doogle leaves, Strength potion(4)- These items have also been smuggled out of New varrock. The zemomark is the currency of New Varrock and the zombie cowhide is a drop recieved from killing a zombie cow in New Varrock. Chocolate cake and Stew can be bought from Gertrude in New Varrock for 140 and 170 Zemomarks respectively. They heal the same amount as their normal counterparts, but unlike the normal versions they stack in inventory. Beer is bought from the bartender at the Blue Moon Inn in New Varrock for 2 zemomarks. Doogle leaves are bought from Xuan's Fresh Produce in New Varrock for 100 zemomarks each. Unlike regular doogle leaves, Doogle leaves (new Varrock) are tradeable and can be noted. Strength potion (4) can be created by the apothecary by using a limpwurt root and red spiders' eggs at the cost of 5 zemomarks. The two ingredients are obtained from looting the chest in the south-east corner of New Varrock, which is accessible after completing Dimension of Disaster: Demon Slayer. This chest can only be looted once, and no more ingredients can be obtained in New Varrock afterwards. Only 3 strength potion (4)s can be obtained per account, and sipping the potion produces 1, 2, and 3 dose smuggled variants.
11. Zombie outfit, Black robes- The Zombie outfit and Black robes set can be bought from Thessalia in New Varrock. The complete zombie set consists of Zombie Mask, Zombie Shirt, Zombie trousers, Zombie gloves and Zombie Boots. The complete Black robes set consists of Black hood, Black robe (top), and Black robe (bottoms).
Unbankable "smuggled" items- These smuggled items cannot be banked and are usually held in the inventory of collectors permanently or traded to alts.
12. Mystery gift- Among the smuggled New Varrock items is the prized mystery gift, which is opened to receive a chromatic Party Hat. However, unlike the other new varrock items, the mystery gift cannot be banked. Opening this Mystery Gift in the main game will produce an Alt-id Chromatic Party Hat that doesn't stack with the normal one.
13. Bandages (Castle Wars)- This is a tradeable item smuggled out of the Castle wars minigame. Bandages are an item used to heal combatants in the Castle Wars minigame. They can be found on the table in the start room. Bandages restore 10% of a player's life points (rounded down) and restore 30% of a player's run energy. Usually, people are hesitant to call smuggled items discontinued because it is not known whether or not the glitch has been patched. However, the wiki mentions that the glitch allowing the smuggling of items out of Castle wars has been patched. According to the wiki, around 2007, bandages were smuggled from Castle Wars and used in the Duel arena when food and drinks were disabled. They allowed the abuser to heal because the bandages were not counted as prohibited consumables and gave them an advantage. Bandages can come in noted/unnoted forms.
14. Ogleroot- This is a tradeable item smuggled out of the Vinesweeper minigame. The wiki mentions that the glitch allowing the smuggling of items out of Vinesweeper has been patched. Therefore, Ogleroot is a smuggled item that is considered a discontinued item with confidence. Ogleroots are bought from Farmer Blinkin in the Vinesweeper minigame, by right-clicking Farmer Blinkin. They can also be found while digging with a spade during the minigame. Ogleroots are fed to rabbits to make the rabbits disappear, stopping the rabbits from eating the seeds that are found. When ogleroots are fed to the rabbits, players will receive 30 Hunter experience points. Usually, players cannot take ogleroots out of the minigame area, but players will be given 10 coins per Ogleroot when they leave. There is a YouTube video that shows how the glitch was done: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mstRCLE-hhg).
15. Calcified fungus, Fungal algea, Fungal spore, Timber fungus, Rotten fungus (Croseus)- These 4 fungi (and rotten fungus) have been smuggled out of the Croseus Boss instance on the day of release (which was on 27 September 2021) using the waterfiend familiar or a simple teleport/interface stall. These fungi differ from their normal counterparts in three ways. Primarily, the normal variation of the four fungus are gatherable outside the boss instance, while the smuggled fungi could only be obtained within the instance. Secondly, the smuggled fungi have a "Rot fungus" option in the inventory while the normal fungi do not when outside the boss instance. Lastly, the smuggled fungi are not available in the grand exchange and cannot be banked. However, these 4 smuggled fungi were available in the Grand exchange up until 4 October 2021. (The rotton fungus is still available on the grand exchange as of today). There are two forms of the smuggled fungi, noted and unnoted forms. They could be noted even though they are unbankable because they were available in the grand exchange for a short period of time. Since noted smuggled Croesus fungus can no longer be noted, they are considered discontinued. (unnoted smuggled Croesus fungus can still be smuggled out as of today) Noted smuggled Croesus fungi do not have the "rot fungus" option and can be shown alongside their noted common counterparts to showcase them in the trade window. Unnoted smuggled Croesus fungi cannot be distinguished from their common counterparts easily in the trade window, which makes the noted version more desirable.
16. Any New Rares to come- There are many other discontinued/smuggled items rumored to still be tradeable in-game that we have yet to see.
Items we have found since writing this script
1. Weapon Store key from the old shield of arrav quest,
2. smuggled, unbankable, tradeable Trouble Brewing items (8 set)
3. non-shiny Royal Dragon that is 2t radiant. (Double Glitched Dragon)
4. Alt-id coin (from item reclaim)
5. Smuggled, unbankable, untradeable, yet transferrable Fist of Guthix runes

2024.04.09 04:40 Guardian_Gallade Missing Content

Just got my book and I'm super excited to play it. As this sub has already touched on, the rules have a lot of weak spots but the core seems exciting and most of the largest issues have been suitably homebrewed over. However, of all the criticism I've seen around this game, I haven't seen any mention of the part of the book that confuses me the most: their patchy choice of content coverage.
For example, take a look at the unique weapon and armor options. We have the abyssal whip, but no abyssal demons. Dragon scimitar, but no mention of Ape Atoll beyond its label on the map. Godswords and the ACB but no GWD!
And on the flipside, we have all 6 Barrows brothers, but not one unique drop among them. I'm not expecting a whole armor set for each one, but we could have at least had the weapons. And despite the book mentioning upgrades as a mechanic (while having no examples except the Godsword, which barely counts since the blade alone has no stats) as well as the anti-dragon shield and the dragonfire shield, the actual upgrade process from one to the other isn't given and neither Vorkath nor KBD drop a Draconic Visage.
Let's keep going with their weird monster inclusions. We have Jad and Zuk, but none of their minions outside of the healers. The Culinaromancer, but none of his food monster abominations. They include basilisks whose stat block mentions a mirrored shield, but no such shield is actually listed in the equipment section.
It feels like they tried to do a "greatest hits" from across Runescape but ended up not implementing any of them with enough depth. I would have been fine with the core rulebook covering less than this, maybe just content from Asgarnia and Misthalin, and give it a more thorough implementation. Every iconic monster they include has their iconic unique drops, and vice versa. That would leave plenty of room for expansion books in the future with new items, monsters and bosses. I'd buy the crap out of a Morytania expansion with the barrows brothers, ToB monsters, slayer tower, etc. along with all their drops. Same goes for the Desert, the Wilderness, Kourend...
As it is, I think before I bring this game to my table I'll be doing a LOT of work filling in those gaps myself. If I feel confident enough in my creations, I'll share them in the sub. The game has great bones and I hope they will continue to release content and fixes for it, but the book as they released it is disappointingly sloppy.

2024.04.08 01:57 HostBrownie My introduction to Runescape (Week 2)

Quick Recap from Week 1:

As a quick summary from my previous post I made, I decided to try out Runescape and attempt to go blind. I wanted to see how far I could get by using the information the game gives me while also accepting help from other players before relying on the internet. I made a previous post detailing my first week into the game which might have been just a tad too long but still impressed over the response from the community. Instead of writing down what I did day by day, I think it would be better to structure this post in a way that shows the main highlights and accomplishments of the second week and onwards.
I decided not to take any donations, trades or potential free items. I didn't want to skip through the early stages of the account but appreciated the generiosity from the community regardless, and that even led to some amazing moments in the game. In regards to the last post, I have contacted the person from reddit from my little giveaway. I'll leave it up to them if they want to be anonymous otherwise I'll add an edit after I finish posting this.

Enough rambling, get on with it:

Okay this post won't be nearly as long as the previous one and I really wanted to make some videos while recording some really funny moments and reactions in the game. I think mainly the confusion but I don't think I am able to do so unfortunately. With that said, I think it is a little late to make a video on an account that already has progression on it but we'll see what the future holds. I made some screenshots of all my progress and a reference to a previous post that I liked and will try to keep it up to date (Okay looks like this post might still be a tad long, goodness my story telling isn't up to par.)

Progression:

From the previous post that I made, the response was honestly amazing and loads of you guys gave such great tips and it even gave me something to work towards in the game. With that said, I had a goal and decided to upgrade my stats little by little.. So I decided to go back to cows for the main reason of doing clue scrolls. At the time I didn't know what to kill to get clue scrolls and I knew it was somewhat reliable and quick at the cow pen. There were definitely times I went back to those .. Flesh Crawlers? I dunno the cockroaches of xp in the stronghold.
The main reason I went back to cows was not only for the reason of selling cowhide or doing clue scrolls, but to maintain my status as a champion of fear within the cow pen. Refer to the images for more context, updates and potential goodies from my clue scrolls! So for those curious to how many cows I've killed, check the images wherever they might appear from. I decided on installed Runelite but didn't realise it tracked my kills and drops, so unfortunately it's not going to be 100% accurate because I didn't start the game with it. I'd say maybe adding another 500 to 1,000 kills sounds good to me!
Most of my playtime is on quite a populated world and I see some players from time to time struggling for food, equipment or whatever it may be. Every so often I would help where I can and at least some of them appreciated it while others waited not even 2 minutes and asked for more items. Unfortunately looks like a common theme since I see the same players log on at different times.

Quests:

So I decided to go on a quest journey, it was fun and I was adviced to install a quest helper. Now my first impressions is a little disappointing since you don't feel that involved in the quest when it tells you exactly what to do and where to go. Players have told me that some quests can be tedious and I'd need it to make my life that much easier, I can agree but I think I might turn it off until I actually struggle or find difficulty in such quests. But to summarise my questing journey, it was all smooth sailing.
A random player walked up to me wanting to start a quest together, I didn't even realise some quests involved multiple players which sounds pretty cool honestly. They were pretty relaxed and patient with me but we made some progress on The Shield of Arrav and parted ways.
After doing that and working my way through the other quests, I eventually landed at dragon slayer, getting the gear and items needed to get there wasn't too bad. Grabbed my salmon, my trusty rune equipment and said let's go dragon hunting! My stats at the time were in the 40s, climbed down the ladder and immediately saw my foe. I even had a spectator cheer me on! Sooo yeah long story short I got absolutely destroyed and found out I can escape by climbing over the small wall. My spectator told me not to give up even though I'm unable to land a hit on the dragon, we had a laugh and I'm pretty sure he wanted to see me fail. I also wasn't expecting it to be level 80+ so that took me by surprise!
Came back a little more geared up, had a strength potion from one of the random character events so took that in with me along with higher healing food and the second time was much easier. Oh how it helps to actually prepare to fight a legendary dragon. With Elvarg being slain, I can now purchase a rune platebody and have completed all the quests that are free to play. Not too bad if I say so myself!

A lending hand from passing players:

So first of all, I would not have made this much progress without the help from other players. I have met some toxic and rude people along my journey but majority of them have been kind and helpful, I even have a fellow player I'm progressing with. Even though he's played the game before and has some knowledge of the game, it was a while ago so I think some parts are hazy. He was really upset when I told him there's an option to drop items in your inventory under your settings by shift clicking. Oh he was not happy finding that out after dropping hundreds of ore while mining. I even found out that you can alternate your run by holding ctrl and clicking on a tile for moments you want to walk or run in style!
I did unfortunately come across many bots but it took some understanding and for people to show me what a bot really is in the game. Now I understand this being a free game, cheats can potentially be a lot more common but I still can't grasp why you would have something play the game for you that isn't an afk clicker but I think this could lead to a potential heated discussion so I'll just leave it at that.

Walking by a drop party and quiz show:

Now I saw a really funny player hosting a quiz show which included trivia, simon says and loads of funny games so I thought I'd participate for fun. Now with that in mind, I'm still unsure if I wanted to use any items given to me from this quiz show on this account for the time being, just for the authenticity of it being a true blind experience while not accepting help from other players (in the form of items.) I think I'll have to sleep on it, I'm still unsure if I want to use the money from the quiz show or just give it away honestly.
Managed to get some money and lucky drops which has funded me enough to get a bond. Now players have said that getting a membership subscription would be easier and a lot more comfortable. While I completely agree with this, I think I would prefer to get a bond for the time being and challenge myself to see if I'm able to somehow gain enough fortune to gain another bond while upkeeping the membership. We'll see how this goes but even if I may fail, who else is going to slay those cows, someone has to do it.

So, what's my goal now?

I'm planning on using the money that I gained to purchase a bond and dive into the world of members. I have a rough goal of what I want to do and I think I might work on agility just so I can be more nimble and not lose my breath while walking down the street along with training slayer. The way slayer was described to me sounds fun to me, having assignments to hunt down monsters all over the world allows me to not only see more regions and locations but also potentially fail spectacularly.
For the time being, I'll be trying to save up my money and work on the progression of this account, I won't be doing another giveaway until I feel like I can make a decent amount of money to fund both bonds and help the community at the same time. Not because I feel like I owe anything to the community but because I want to, everyone seems fun to talk to and I want to help out players where I can.
Thanks for the response to the people of the previous post, people cheering me on in game and the random players in game that took time of their day to help me out. I will post another update in 2 weeks and possibly do a monthly update. I don't want to spam so much rubbish in a short period of time so we'll just wing it like always.
Take care everyone and see you in the next one!

TL;DR:

Completed all the free to play quests, killed some cows and worked on levelling up my combat stats and other skills in preperation for members. Uploaded some images on an update on my stats for the second week along with goodies!
No giveaway this time? Booo

2024.03.31 17:38 HostBrownie My introduction to Runescape (1 week)

Hey everyone, I've not used reddit before and I've not played Runescape either so I thought I'd give it a go. One of my friends said I should make a video or tell everyone my journey and see where things go from there. Whether it's a good idea or people aren't interested, I guess we shall find out but since I didn't think to record the first few days I think it was fair to detail my steps in writing.
(I was also told to pick a flair for this post so I'm not sure if that's correct but here we go!)
So I will be showing my first week on runescape and it might be a little long so if it gets boring, skip to the end for a quick summary. I wanted to go into this game blind not looking into anything and avoid any videos online, not sure how long I'll play until I start researching online but let's see how things go!

Day 1: Starting small

Things started simple, I created my character and entered the world of runescape. I did the tutorial and totally didn't run into a problem known in the industry as a potential 'skill issue' but I powered through and completed step one. I finished the tutorial and was teleported into the main world, I was a little overwhelmed at first with loads of text on my screen so I thought I would keep things simple and stay close to spawn to fight nearby enemies and working on increasing my damage/survivability. My main focus on enemies were killing goblins, rats and the occassional civilian.
Still feeling a little overwhelmed, I ended day 1 a little earlier than I wanted and got some levels in my combat stats.

Day 2: Tour guide

I met the reaper today, nice guy!
I thought I lost my items but I didn't think it would be an issue since I'm not that far into the game but I found my gravestone right next to my spawn and picked up my items and continued where I left off. Been talking to some NPCs to see where the game wants to guide new players. Saw someone called Jon the Adventurer, seems like a good guy to talk to after levelling some skills after being prompted in the chat box. I wanted to try something out and I thought I'd attack the civilians of this area and die again out of curiosity just to see if there's any penalty but looks like I can just spawn right next to my grave and pick up my items so I just kept doing that for a while.
I met some other players in the community and majority of them were nice and generous. One player wanted to give me some items and money to help jumpstart my journey but I decided that I wanted to earn items and gear myself. It felt more rewarding to obtain items myself and think it would be unfair to skip ahead and just buy myself items and skip past the struggles of the early game. He was surprised that I didn't take any items and decided to give me a small tour of runescape and what I can work towards, so now I had goals I can work towards.
He gave me a basic introduction to the grand exchange, wilderness, quests, places to start level fishing, mining and an understanding of bots in this game which made sense with the amount of messages being spammed. I also got a clue scroll which I thought was a treasure map that said I needed a red cape but I would deal with that another day.

Day 3: Trying something new

I decided to have a little wander around today and do something different, so I opened up the map and chose a random direction to walk in and headed to a city called Falador. Passed a small area called barbarian village which looks like a nice place to level up but I think I might need to be a little stronger before but that will be something future me can figure out. Had a little look around falador but I think I saw some high level characters and I wasn't quite sure what was going to attack me so I decided to retreat back to lumbridge and work on my other skills.
I started fishing and cooking! With the information another player gave me, I headed towards the lumbridge swamp and started to fish some shrimp. I didn't catch many at a time since I carried everything with me instead of putting it into the bank. Had a rough idea of what players were doing, they would take turns cutting down a tree and lighting a fire to give others a chance to cook food. So whenever someone would place a fire, I would then gather 1 or 2 logs to light fires for everyone else.
Half way through the day, I made some good progress on fishing and noticed I'm not burning as many shrimp which was nice for when I'd like to cook myself some food when I challenge tougher enemies. I did some mining since I was interested in crafting myself some armour and weapons so I went back to the lumbridge spawn, gathered myself some ore and kept smelting bronze equipment and sold it in the local general store. I have some money!

Day 4: The restriction

I continued to do some more mining, it just felt relaxing to do something and have a video in the background, had a few players to talk to which was nice and worked my way to craft some steel bars and turn that into some weapons. I then went to the grand exchange to sell them to then realise that my account is restricted, I'm unable to sell items or give other players items which I didn't like. I needed play time, quest points and whatever the other requirement was, so that's just what I decided to do that day. I had some money from selling some steel equipment at the general store but wanted to keep some just in case they sold for more at the grand exchange.
I also found the store that sold the red cape, with the help of a random player so I quickly did that clue scroll. Did feel weird that there was a popup that would tell me exactly what to do but I didn't know how to turn it off so I just left it there and accepted the guidance. I then got another clue scroll which gave me a hot and cold like minigame to the treasure. I may have spent too long trying to find where I had to go.
Many hours later I decided to jump onto the quest journey and unlock my restriction. I don't remember the exact order of quests but I'll try and remember them from memory. The player who gave me a tour unlocked the quest to do Rune Mysteries so that's exactly what I did first. Was a nice and simple quest so I thought I'd work on getting those quest points that I needed and spoke to a wizard to unlock Imp Catcher. Sounds like this might take a while so I'll kill any imps that I pass in case I get some beads. Did The Restless Ghost followed by Sheep Shearer and moving on to help a cook with Cook's Assistant. Unfortunately couldn't take a slice of the cake and worked my way to Varrock and did Romeo and Juliet. Unsure if that's all the quests that I did but over the next few days, I did also complete The Knight's Sword and Imp Catcher which wasn't too bad since I only killed 12-13 to get all the beads I needed.
It's finally done, now I just need the play time so I decided to stay on for a long time since I also overheard some players talking about some potential money making methods with hunting cows. They seem easy to kill and they mention collecting the cowhide. So I did just that, killing the cows and taking their cowhide while banking them to eventually sell them in the grand exchange once the restriction has been lifted.
Oh goodness what a long day but while killing cows, I spoke to a player telling them how I was questing and they felt bad for me since I wasn't using something called Runelite. So I decided to work on that tomorrow while also collecting the hides hoping to gain a small fortune to help myself get started while also working on my stats. Found out my restriction has ended by giving someone some burnt food, I don't know it just happened to be in my inventory and they were looking for it but refused all kind of payment for it since it felt a little odd to be paid for burnt food.
I headed to the grand exchange and sold all the cowhide that I gained and earned myself a good amount of money, I thought I was doing pretty well with close to 10k after selling all my equipment that I made but I gained a fortune I thought I wouldn't see in a while and collected close to 100k. Honestly, really was not expecting that but I eventually found out in time that tanning the hide would have made me a little more money and someone eventually led me to a place to tan the hide. Not really upset that I could have made a lot more money but it was a good learning experience.

Day 5: Working on upgrades

There really wasn't much different happening on day 5, completed some clue scrolls just for fun and worked on collecting some more cowhide. I did come across a certain player that called my sword flimsy and weak and said that I should be using something stronger and more powerful. I decided to humour him and was also curious too and said I should look into the dungeon in Varrock. I was thinking, that'll be cool, he didn't spoil too much and left a lot of mystery in the air which I thought made it more fun. He then continued to call everyone else weak regardless of their prefence in their style of combat. I decided to have a quick look at that dungeon but did take me a fair while to find it on the map, assuming I went to the correct one, let's see how it goes!
Oh no I only just got out alive, I am not ready for this!
Back to cow pen we go haha..
But before that I decided to try out this Runelite thing. So I downloaded Runelite, launched the game and noticed that everything was very different so I think I spent a good hour and a bit changing all my settings and fixing this "blurry" feel with the window. After some troubleshooting and rough help from players, we got through it and immediately noticed that the hot and cold puzzle actually shows me where to dig, this is quite helpful.
Still come across a large playerbase who take time of their day to drop items for new players or even try and give them some stuff to help them along their journey. I still decline all the trades since I'd like struggle through the early game and then complain about the difficulty at a later date. I have yet to buy any upgrades since I had a special event which gave me a cool hat and I didn't want to put any armour on. Only kills cows so far so didn't feel the necessity to put armour on yet.
Okay I have gathered plenty of cowhide, I spent most of the day gathering cowhide to eventually turn that into leather just to see how much it would sell for. I took it to the grand exchange and decided to sell 1 leather which then sold for around 1,000 coins. Was quite the jump from cowhide so I sold most of my leather but kept some just in case.
After 10 seconds I immediately sold the remaining leather which to my surprise then sold for over 2,000 coins each. Some players were talking about membership and the opportunity to get a bond looked quite interesting and honestly seemed like a realistic goal I can work towards. They were saying that membership unlocks a crazy amount of options you can do in the game and now I had something I wanted to do. With the idea of being able to gather a bond assuming leather would still sell around 1,000 - 2,000 coins each, didn't look like a bond was far out of reach being around 10 million coins I believe. That's a lot.

Day 6: The goal

With the mindset to get a bond, I decided to collect more cowhide but didn't focus too much on killing the cows but instead just picking up cowhide that no one else wanted to pick up. I'd kill cows if none were dropped on the floor but also noticed something interested and invented a little game to make it more interesting too. Now I apologise in advance if this is incorrect or if my methods of trolling might have actually impacted an actual player but part of me wanted to believe that there was a bot to pick up cowhide. No matter what, he would always pick up the closest one so I'd run to the cowhide he was going for then pick it up just before he gets close.
Now I wouldn't do this normally but I wanted to prove if he was a bot or not, I don't know but collecting cowhide wasn't exactly a fun process so I wanted to make a little minigame out of it. After about 10-15 minutes, I was sure this was a bot. It would always take the closest or the first cowhide that spawns, regardless of how far away it might be. So I used that to my advantage and prevented it from collecting cowhide or to simply drag it away so other players or myself can collect more cowhide to prevent cheats from gaining so much by doing so little.
I later found out about the report system and found that there's an option to report a bot so I thought I'd decide to do so after half way through the day when I was fairly certain it was a bot, with it always moving after a set time frame and the movement to the cowhide was a little odd.
I met yet another guy who wanted to give me some items, he would follow me around confused as to why I wouldn't accept any items since everyone else would jump on that immediately. He would keep pushing to give me items over and over so I thought I would come up with an alternative, I'd ask for information instead. There was a player going around telling everyone to equip a club and I thought it would be funny to aquire a club and surprise him. To my surprise, I'd have to kill something called a hill giant boss which from memory, I'd have to kill a moss giant to earn a key, to then gain access to kill hill giants for a chance to fight a boss?
I'm not quite sure but feel free to correct any mistakes I've made because I'm sure there are many haha. He was a really nice guy, really appreciate that he took the time out of his day to show me where to go if I ever wanted to unlock the weapon for the future but I don't think I'm ready for a boss fight at my level. He decided to give me a key to show me where I could potentially unlock the boss by fighting some hill giants. I didn't want to take the key for free but with how persistant he was, I decided to pay for it instead. I was aware that money was probably not an issue for him but paid him a small amount of coins for it based on what the value said in the chat window. He took me to draynor and showed me a book called a chronicle which ... Oh my god saves so much time going back and forth to the grand exchange. A nice little shortcut honestly!
He showed me the door to kill Hill Giants, he didn't have a spare kill so we parted ways and I decided to jump right on in. Managed to kill a single hill giant before realising that I am not ready for this but I've jotted this down for the future.
On to the final day.

Day 7: Final stretch

Ah the final day, oh what shall we do..
Yeah I'm killing cows, I don't know what to tell you. With the goal to get a bond, I felt like I was quite close to unlock membership so I decided to have a nice chat with people in the area and see what everyone's goal was on runescape or what got them into the game. It was then when someone walked up to me, surprised I wasn't a bot and asked if I was a pure. I'm still not sure to this day what that means but he was really interested in fighting other players so I'm just going to assume that's a term for that specifically. We had such a good chat and decided to go our seperate ways for a little while and at the same time I decided to bank my inventory.
OH I GOT A PET CROW! Moments later I then realised a crow landed on the loot as I killed a cow, I don't know if a pet crow exists but I feel like I need to work towards one for this very reason now..
Then the funniest moment I think I'd ever have in this game for a long time happened. We decided to part ways at the same time, wishing eachother well but we both were heading in the same direction. Both of us just couldn't stop laughing, I have no idea where he was going but we were losing it! After a little breakdown and another awkward goodbye, I continued on with the grind to get more cowhide and leather.
I met another guy in the cow pen who was unfortunately struggling and said that he spilled some beer on his keyboard. That does kinda suck and he was having some difficulty typing assuming some of the liquid got inside and would keep spamming certain keys in chat. Don't know how exactly that happens but I decided I'd treat him. He's quite similar to my level and his gear is what I used to own before I spoke to Adventure Jon so I wanted to give him some kind of upgrade to his gear but he couldn't type anymore, instead I came up with an idea of just following me if your stats are higher or lower than said value. After some trial and error, I took a trip to the grand exchange and picked up some armour and .. I might have also found out that it also sells beer so I couldn't pass on an opportunity.
Got back, traded him the equipment and the beer. After 30 seconds or so, he eventually trades assuming he totally loves the banter and is not upset what so ever. I did feel bad so I did say sorry, assumed he was grateful and continued on. He then eventually found out he could use the on screen keyboard to type to me to express his thanks, just hope it sorts itself out and he doesn't need a keyboard but only time will tell!
So it's coming towards the end of the day, I thought I would tan all the cowhide I got and make my way back to the grand exchange and see how much money I can make. I was quite looking forward to honestly ending the day with reaching my goal so quickly but we'll see how we do. I can't quite remember the exact amount and should have probably shared some screen shots but regardless I decided to sell them all which I roughly sold around 6,000 for a little under 2m. I was surprised that they sold for such a lower price than last time. I think I was on target assuming that they would sell anywhere between 1,000 to 2,000 coins each. Guess prices do change rapidly and I was a little late to take opportunity of this but it is what it is.
Regardless, I am happy with the amount that I made so I decided to do a clue scroll, I am on my 9th one now and had a few steps but were smooth sailing. Then out of nowhere I got frog slippers, to this day I'm still unsure how I feel about this so for the time being I'm just going to keep them in the bank, it doesn't look good on my character with the gear that I'm using currently so I think it'll remain in there for a while. Shortly after I got another clue scroll, assuming It would be a big drop, the big double digit 10 total beginner clue scrolls. Living the dream... I got 8 coins evaluated and it was leather chaps I believe. We still take it! I could have done many more clue scrolls if I decided to do them straight away but I was more focused on getting myself some money.

Disclaimer:

I wanted to include a showing of the community by including how kind hearted they truly were. This is by no means bragging, I don't want people getting the impression that they should beg or create new accounts just for some money. It's more enjoyable to go through the game with the resources you can get yourself and you're not going to get far in the game if you only rely on begging to get through the game.
With that said if it becomes heated for whatever reason, I'll remove this message and we'll move on.
So throughout my journey on runescape, I've had many people try to drop me items or give me stuff, I chose not to accept any help with trades but I guess I truly did look clueless while playing the game Either way, below is a note of all the trades people have showed me. This is not including trades I just refused. Some of the trades could have been baitsor traps but if anyone sees something that's usually too good to be true, that's because it usually is. If anyone offers you money or items in game but you have to do something fishy like doing something specific or following them, be mindful and don't fall for these traps.
Either way, boring bit over. Here's what trade offers were shown to me:
I decided not to take any of these since I only just started the game and it would be unfair to just skip the early game content. I do have some money earned from tanning hides but tried not to use it until I feel like I need it.

Summary:

Okaaay boring part over so let's do a somewhat quick summary where I showcase my thoughts and summarise everything in the game as briefly as I can.
Runescape is fun, I honestly enjoy it and I think I will continue to do so. I was a little overwhelmed with everything on screen but after some help from the community and playing around with the settings, it made things a lot more enjoyable. With the variety this game offers and the potential to unlock membership through bonds, it's a good goal to work towards. I've had a good laugh and not all moments were mentioned in this post since it's already long enough as is.
I am currently on day 9 working on unlocking the ability to use rune equipment. I've done some more clue scrolls and currently have one in my inventory while making this post. This will be the 20th clue scroll, hopefully something nice, maybe some more leather chaps! I've given some new players some money to help buy themselves some food and equipment. Some are more grateful than others, while some continued to beg for more after I only just gave them some money.
Either way, thanks for taking the time to read this, I apologise for this being so long but I'm going to spend the second week not using the internet or relying on anyone and hoping I can unlock membership in that time. If I do eventually get the opportunity to buy a bond, I will still go into the game blind hoping to figure out what runescape has to offer for me and just absolutely winging it. If anyone has any recommendations on where one could first go when one unlocks membership, that would be a great.
Lastly just want to say a special thank you to the community, everyone has been so helpful guiding me and showing me the ropes. A few rude ones but that's an online community for you.
I wanted to do a giveaway. Getting the bond will take me a little longer and I'm aware it's not much compared to other people but I wanted to give away 1 million coins. I've not done a giveaway before but it's mainly my thanks to the community. I'll be giving it away to 1 random person in the comments. Any comment I find really funny or helpful will get the 1m. Any others, I might see if I can give away 100k up to a maximum of 3 players. We'll see how this turns out but I don't want to make any guarentees on that.
Any misinformation, feel free to correct me since many things might be wrong within this post.
Thanks again everyone, take care and happy runescaping!
Edit: Just a quick edit, don't forget to include your name on runescape for a chance to win 1m, good luck to you all!

2024.03.28 21:36 DragonHeroBlaze Why not bring back resting?

Resting was introduced in main Runescape in June 2009, long before EoC broke the player base.
It was part of an overhaul of run energy in general: see this newspost from the time.
Now, I'm not suggesting the entirety of the changes piece by piece from this newspost. I don't know if restoration and drain rates in general need to be dramatically changed. However, I have seen people suggesting things that were the case for this update, like agility reducing run energy drain.
Personally I'd do something along the lines of:
  1. Resting normally increases run energy regen by 50%.
  2. Resting at a bonfire or at any bench or seat increases run energy regen by 100%.
  3. Resting in a chair at a pub/inn/tavern increases run energy regen by 150%.
  4. Resting using the Dream spell increases run energy regen by 200%.
  5. Boost the run energy recovery from food, drink, and potions that restore run energy.
  6. Graceful outfit energy regen bonus would be increased, perhaps be multiplicative with resting bonuses for even higher run energy regen.
I don't know, maybe the few people who actually use the Torag's and Abyssal whip abilities to drain run energy from targets might want some kind of buff to go with it? I can't imagine it being too earth shattering to add resting, especially at the numbers I've given since that's so much lower than the over 6 times run energy restoration it gives in RS3, and I even intentionally left out the health regen bonus resting gives there.

2024.03.21 18:50 Trapt919 Moons of Peril fastest KPH + Boss tech guide

Moons of Peril fastest KPH + Boss tech guide
Howdy gamers - I've been running the new Perilous Moons bosses since early yesterday morning & am quite confident that I've ironed (btw) out all of the kinks. Haven't seen many detailed write-ups out quite yet, so figured I'd contribute:
Gear -
Tried a few different things here, HANDS DOWN BAR-NONE full Dharok's is the clear winner. This is the ONLY setup I've been able to overkill/skip the eclipse shadow phase with. Do NOT ask me why this is a thing, but DH appears to actually register overkill damage to skip the HP to 0 rather than holding it to 1hp & forcing you to wait out the shadow phase & then slap a 1 afterwards. The only times this doesn't happen are instances in which you happen to get unlucky enough for your last hit to land it on 1hp - Otherwise 9/10 times you're skipping the phase every single time. I've had several dozen instances in which I enter the room right as shadow phase starts, & within 10 seconds I'm already out of the room - Massive.
For Blue Moon, swap the axe to crush, DPS is massive
For Blood Moon, swap the axe to slash, DPS is massive
Overall, DH is a MASSSSSIVE time save when taking Eclipse shadow phase skipping into account & DPS on all bosses is fucking fantastic. Can also bring a Crystal Halberd for spec if you feel like sweating out a bit more, but I've found that just camping DH is a guaranteed 2-phase maximum on each & every boss, 1 phase on Eclipse
For those struggling with Blood Moon constantly hitting for high damage & healing to prolong the fight - Consider bringing full Torag's & an Amulet of The Damned, which when used in tandem will increase your Defense level by +1 for every point of HP you're missing; shoutout u/Many-Parsley3572 for this suggestion! He's planning to post his findings after a few dozen KC with this setup
Inventory -
Given that this entire encounter is 0 supply use, I typically bring the following to start each run & top up supplies as needed:
Butterfly Net (not needed if 85 hunter or higher)
Rope (can be claimed by right click Take-from Hunting
Pestle & Mortar (can be claimed by right click Take-from Herblore Supply crates)
2 Stamina potions (useful in the instances you forget to make a cuppa tea to restore run)
Initial prep -
https://preview.redd.it/f2rwcva2jspc1.png?width=388&format=png&auto=webp&s=da4ef021dc954991051cdf003b9c2cf3ac54bc4c
When starting a new run, navigate to the North-East dungeon & run to the camp - Grab supplies from Hunter crate (Butterfly Net for catching Moonlight Moths), Fishing crate, & 2 sets of supplies from the Herblore crate (4 vials of water needed)
https://preview.redd.it/3pphjnelispc1.png?width=336&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f9e22990bb18606534360cbffe9c2accfd746a5
Snag 4 Moonlight Grubs from the Grubby Saplings, crush these using the pestle & mortar, add to vials of water. These potions act as a Super Strength, Super Attack, Divine Super Defense, & Super Restore
https://preview.redd.it/6j4mewjnispc1.png?width=394&format=png&auto=webp&s=713c5a792d1371a64004f8c9d58c953058df278e
Head south to the fishing spot on the bridge, Fish a full inventory of Bream - When full, head back to camp & cook them all
Alternatively, you can opt to grab a Rope from the Hunter crate & gather 4-5 Lizards in the dungeon prior to Blue Moon, these are a bit quicker to harvest than Bream & heal about the same once cooked into pieces
Now you're ready to fuck
Boss order -
Set your quick prayers to Piety, camp this during all fights - No need to protect melee, I'm often able to get through a full KC (all 3 bosses) without eating a single food & you'll be wanting to camp lower HP with Dharok's anyways
Head to northern of the 2 entrances to your west, we'll start with the Eclipse moon (see next section for boss mechanics/tips)
https://preview.redd.it/f5pwvg5wispc1.png?width=384&format=png&auto=webp&s=d5730965c97e257dbe30285d1d04acdb1848a91e
Once finished with eclipse moon you'll be spawned at the camp for the next boss, equip your butterfly net & catch 3-4 Moonlight Moths (these restore prayer, 3 should be enough to bring you back to full - If you don't have the 75 Hunter required to catch these, feel free to make a few more potions during prep & sip these to restore prayer points) on your way to the next boss entrance directly to the west, Blue Moon coming right up (see next section for boss mechanics/tips)
Once finished with Blue Moon you'll be spawned at the camp for the final boss, make a cuppa tea at the camp you're stood next to, run east to the far wall & head on into Blood Moon (see next section for boss mechanics/tips)
Once finished with Blood Moon you'll be spawned back at the same camp you just came from, run directly south into the entrance to the Rewards Chest cave, loot the chest, get a unique (surely), run through the entrance to your north
You're now back in the cave we started in, catch the 2 Moonlight Moths that spawn right next to you, maybe a 3rd on the way to the Eclipse Moon entrance, Rinse & Repeat
Boss mechanics/tips -
I've created tile markers for each boss, these are super useful for knowing where to stand at the end of each special attack phase to ensure you're in the right spots to begin DPSing again once the phase ends – I’ll post a Pastebin link in the comments of this post immediately after posting for easy copy/paste (copy text, then right-click the world map icon, Import Ground Markers)
Each boss will have animated circles on the floor that reduce damage taken when stood on, these rotate clockwise for 3 cycles at which time the next special attack phase will begin
Also worth noting that each boss room is both public AND instanced in a way - The boss' health is 100% instanced & is only impacted by damage (or heals) that you're personally responsible for, while the room & fight mechanics are public & run on a set cycle that you'll be dropped into upon entering
Eclipse Moon:
Visual tile markers for mobile users
This boss is weak to Stab, however if using DH we'll just be camping Slash styles, DPS is plenty enough
Special 1, Orb Shield:
You'll be dragged next to large Orb that will begin moving after a few seconds - Stay behind this Orb to avoid damage, it moves 1 tile/tick & if using the tile markers above you should be looking to run to the next marked tile on the outer edges once the Orb nears the corner & stops, rinse & repeat until you've returned to the corner you started at, at which time you should activate your prayer & run to the tile marked "Orb" & begin DPSing the boss. If you don't lose any ticks when beginning DPS, you'll have 3 hits before needing to move to the next circle (4 hits if using a 4-tick weapon). For the next 2 circles you'll have time for 2 hits before needing to move (3 hits if using a 4-tick weapon), at which time the next special will begin
Special 2, Shadows:
You'll be dragged to the center of the arena, & 3 shadows of the boss will spawn in random directions after a few seconds. As each shadow spawns, click the floor underneath the shadow & you'll turn to face it & attack. This will go on for 5-6 cycles, if using DH you'll most likely drop the HP to 0 within 2-3 cycles & finish the fight. If you don't manage to kill the boss during this phase, run to the tile marked "Shadows" & begin DPSing.
Also seems to be possible to overkill/skip this special when using a Scythe
Shoutout u/Tangibilitea for adding that you're also able to overkill/skip this special if you dump a Crystal Halberd spec when the boss is low HP - Useful for Irons that don't have a full DH set
Blue Moon:
Visual tile markers for mobile users
This boss is weak to Crush, If using DH swap your attack style to Smash
Special 1, Crystals:
Your weapon will be trapped in 1 of 3 Ice Crystals, you can identify which you'll need to destroy by looking for a glow/difference in color. After locating the Ice Crystal your weapon is trapped in, you'll have to punch the crystal while dodging the blue floor spikes that spawn. You should have plenty of time to break the crystal before the special ends, once broken you'll automatically re-equip your weapon & should head to the tile marked "Crystals" & prepare for DPS. If you're quick with breaking your crystal you'll still need to dodge floor spikes that can spawn on the DPS tile for ~2 cycles.
Special 2, Tornadoes:
You'll be dragged to the center of the arena & tornadoes will begin filling the room - You're SUPPOSED to run to the Braziers on the East/West sides of the room while dodging the tornadoes to re-light them to prevent the boss from healing, BUT the total HP healed even when not lighting the braziers is so comically low that you're literally just better off immediately running to the tile marked "Nados" & literally AFKing until DPS phase. You'll out-DPS the heals on your very first hit 9/10 times. EZ GAME
Blood Moon:
Visual tile markers for mobile users
This boss is weak to Slash, if using DH swap your attack style back to Slash
Special 1, Blood Pools:
You'll be dragged to a random tile in the room & blood pools will begin spawning on the floor - Avoid these blood pools on your way back to the tile marked "Blood Pools" & avoid them until the phase is finished & begin DPS
Special 2, Blood Jaguars:
Visual demonstration of the Jaguar walk
2 Blood Jaguars will spawn on each side of the room for a total of 8, blood pools will fall from the ceiling in a square around the boss - You'll be looking for the Jaguar with the highlighted floor circle adjacent to it. Run to the highlighted Jaguar & wait for the blood pools to fall - Wait 1-2 ticks for the blood pools to "settle" & then immediately click on the tile directly behind you to step where the blood pool was, then immediately click the blood jaguar to attack. If done properly you'll step away from the jaguar right before it attacks, avoid all damage, & heal for a portion of the damage you deal to the Jaguar. Once the highlighted floor circle disappears, run to the tile marked "Jaguars" & begin DPS
Conclusion -
Once you become comfortable with each boss' mechanics, you should be able to stay here indefinitely by catching/cooking more Bream/Lizards, creating more potions, & restoring prayer with Moonlight Moths.
This is the first time I've done a write-up for content after 20 years of playing Runescape, & honestly have enjoyed this content so much that I felt compelled to share the knowledge
I hope this proves useful for anyone looking to learn the content, or someone looking to farm it efficiently
My RSN is "Photos", feel free to PM me with any questions or give me a shout if we run into each other <3
Have fun, be safe, & just get the drop
Edit: Updated the guide to include visuals for key objects/Boss room tile markers
Edit 2: Uploaded a GIF of the Jaguar walk to help with understanding timing

2024.03.18 00:43 Orion_Scattered 4 hours into DOS1:EE as my 1st ever CRPG and 1st ever non-Dark Souls RPG period. Can yall help me figure out if I should keep going, if it's not for me, or if I should try DOS2 instead?

So it's my first time ever playing a CRPG, and my first time playing an RPG other than Dark Souls 1 and 2 earlier this year. I'm branching out lol! Trying new things. I hope this post doesn't come across as too negative, pessimistic/critical etc or hostile to what the game is trying to do. I am intentionally getting out of my gaming comfort zone to try to explore new genres after falling in love with DS1. But like a fish out of water I don't have any air-breathing friends to tell me if this is what the land is supposed to be like or not lol so I would greatly greatly appreciate anyone taking the time to read my long post and offer me their 2 cents lol. If not that's totally fair too.
So, I'm 4 hours in and I did the tutorial dungeon and am currently wrapping up exploring Cyseal before progressing the main story there. I'm an every nook and cranny kind of gamer and have left no vases or crates unopened, no npcs not talked to, no item description unread etc. It's how I played DS1 the first time and I completed that game in 70 hours. I then did a more normal NG+ and completed it in 20 hours that time. I enjoyed both playthrus but I loved exploring all the areas and encountering the enemies and bosses the first time the most, when every dark corridor had me walking with my shield held up in terror lol.
But so far, with this as my approach, I haven't had any fun at all yet in this game. Here are my main points. 1) It feels generic, the setting and aesthetic. 2) It feels mediocre, the voice acting and dialogue writing. 3) And it feels too cartoony in terms of tone, particularly the item descriptions and diegetic texts. 4) And lastly it feels frustrating in terms of interaction.
1 ) I think the aesthetic could be cool but so far the setting doesn't make me want to explore it all regardless of how it looks and sounds because it feels too generic. Now I know that my 4hours is really only like 10 minutes for someone who's played the genre a lot so it's an understatement to say that I know I haven't given the game enough time yet to subvert the tropes that it has set up, eg savage orcs, but so far it feels like the way it's gonna subvert these tropes is too generic itself. Eg the house of healing, the dude there and his apprentice with her stone. It seems pretty clear to me because of the empty grave in the backyard and the general sus vibes that they are straight up murdering people in there to use for necromancy, and they probably stole that poor lady's pet sheep too. That's fine and all but it just feels too obvious. There are some aspects that seem promising, like getting to voice my input on whether that hungry dude should steal that fish or not, but it doesn't feel like that's gonna go anywhere and then stuff like deciding whether or not to free that chef's chicken just feels pointless, like hollow, and I'm vegan lol. Back to the main point tho, I suspect there's some corruption going on with the military and the gates that they have locked off and the fact that the orcs are attacking here at all, definitely have help on the inside. But that just feels so blah.
My question I guess is does any of the positives here go anywhere, and am I entirely missing what the game is going for in terms of its setting and how it wants to use its setting as part of its story? Or is it as straightforward as it seems? Which isn't necessarily bad but then it just wouldn't be my cuppa. I prefer a more GRRM fantasy subversion for instance.
2) If I could fast forward the dialogue like youtube I would, but since I can't I actually found myself doing this--I'd start a dialogue and listen to the actor for 1 or 1.5 sentences to soak in the vibe, then I'd lose patience and mute the game and quickly read thru all the dialogue options available. So far all the NPCs feel like if you've heard them speak for 5 seconds then you've heard all there is to hear, so it's quicker and better to just read the rest yourself, but all the dialogue just feels sophomoric and like it's not worth my time to even read at all.
My question here is, is the game maybe being more tongue in cheek so far than I'm giving it credit for with its fantasy folksy NPCs? Or is this a fair sample of the way the game tries to use the voice acting & dialogue to enhance the setting? Again if that's the case not saying it's done poorly, but just not in a way I enjoy.
3) Pretty much the same issue here and same question as with 2 but for item descriptions and diegetic texts. In DS I'm hungry for every scrap of lore and can't wait to try to piece it together or have my mind blown about it by Vaati on youtube lol. So far in this game it seems more concerned with cracking jokes but with a sense of humor that just feels immature and makes me roll my eyes rather than be amused or want to further engage with it at all.
Is this just a me thing (humor is *extremely* subjective to be sure), or am I missing the mark on what it's doing?
4) Kinda where it all comes home to roost for me so far. Great examples I actually already started on. One is the "healing" house. What I want the game to let me do is confront the lying sons of bitches or turn them into the cops or something like that. Maybe sneak around their house and find some proof. But so far that's not an option, and instead I'm given the trolley problem to answer lol, and turns out I spent too long not answering her so they just both died and I feel like I lost out on the chance to save them both which is what I wanted to do, but it seems the game didn't want to let me. Another example to continue is the hungry guy. I wanted to tell him not to steal so I did, but I wanted to then give him some food myself but I couldn't. It feels like whiplash in terms of moral agency and that makes me feel like not engaging with decisions like this or the chicken at all moving forward. And a last example is the boat that gets set on fire. I wanted to help so I picked up a bucket to join the fire brigade and suddenly the entire tri-county population was trying to murder me. Wtf! Luckily I had a smoke bomb so I was able to flee without having to accidentally commit a genocide against the poor folks. But it feels like the game is telling me one thing when it wants me to move around barrels and stuff to get across the map and then it punishes me so severely for stepping the faintest amount outside the lines when it seems to me like picking up that bucket would be an expected behavior by like 99% of game devs.
So, question on this one I guess is is there more meaningful interaction later in the game? As in, I am able to turn those bozo "healers" in yet the game never explicitly tells me they're up to no good so I am actually rewarded in an immersive way but just only when the game decides it's time? Or am I totally off mark with this whole aspect of the game? And like am I wrong to expect a higher level of agency in interactions like the hungry guy or should I expect and be happy with the simple interaction that's provided and the resulting stat changes?
Bonus ) Combat, so far I feel strongly neutral about it so far. I can't say that I've actually enjoyed it yet, but the possibilities of environmental combinations are EXTREMELY interesting to me. Eg I tried covering a group of enemies in oil with 1 character and then setting them on fire with the other character but couldn't manage to pull it off--definitely due to utter unfamiliarity with turn-based combat (both characters not going back-to-back feels unnatural) and an action point system. I think I've seen in videos that this aspect definitely does get more involved later on. In terms of strategy and fairness, so far I have almost died due to a bad decision (which was only bad because I didn't realize how a certain underlying mechanic worked so I don't feel bad about it because that's me learning the genre not the game being bad or cheap), so I feel like the potential is there for both fair rewards and punishments for strategy and creativity in combat. I quit Runescape EOC because I didn't want to spam an action bar key--is it fair to say that this game doesn't devolve into spamming an action bar key or no? Overall it feels like it will be engaging and not mindless, keeping me on my toes and probably in some areas challenging me but fairly, like DS1 unlike DS2 lol.
IN CONCLUSION, should I...
A) Keep going with the game, and if so should I continue with my nook and cranny approach or could I have way more fun being a bit brisk and ignoring the copy pasted vases and baskets unless I'm running short on something and so that I don't feel like I'm playing a vase and basket clicker simulator and end up overwhelmed with inventories full of junk I don't need/want? Same for NPCs--am I better off taking a more essential approach to dialogue interactions or is the copy pasted dialogue only like a thing in towns for instance?
B) Quit playing, because DOS is an awesome game but it's a game I apparently clearly don't want to play and quitting now will save me hours and hours more of frustration from having to figure it out myself that way?
C) Switch to DOS:2 because I got the combo on the steam sale and DOS:2 is better in literally all the aspects I complained about in this post and that's why people recommend starting with that one even though it has "2" in the title and is actually like the 4th or 5th game in the series but the timeline is timey wimey and that actually doesn't matter and my adhd brain that makes me feel like I have to go in order is maybe getting in my own way here?
Bolded that last bit cause I have a sneaking suspicion that that's the case as when it comes to fundamentals I feel like I kinda jive with what the game's got goin on but I just can't tell whether the reason it's not clicking is me or this incarnation of the game but that the foundation when executed a different way totally would click with me, but again I just can't tell lol.

2024.02.17 07:29 Narmoth DXP token store outfits information

In the DXP store, you can get the skilling outfits that are extremally useful, but not all are equal in their value. Most cost 15k DXP tokens except the first few I'll mention at the top.
What outfits should I get absolutely first?
What outfits do I think are a waste of DXP tokens to get?
Skill Outfit Head Addon - Get this last. It is random from any outfit regardless if that outfit head piece is actually owned or not.
1.5K Total DXP TOKEN
Slayer Masks:
Shattered Worls: Can earn the first low level masks here pretty quickly and save the DXP shop rolls for higher level helms.
10K TOTAL DXP TOKENS: 4 pieces (2.5k each), no special addon pieces!
black ibis outfit 5% xp boost
Master Runecrafter Outfit 5% xp boost
Lumber Jack 5% xp boost
12.5K TOTAL DXP TOKENS 5 pieces (2.5k each), no special addon pieces!
Fletcher 6% xp boost
Constructor Outfit 6% xp boost
Golden Mining Suite 6% xp boost
Nimble Outfit 6% xp boost
15k TOTAL DXP TOKENS (12.5K for full outfit + 2.5k for Head addon) (in order of priority starting with worst to get)
Blacksmith Outfit 6% xp boost
Artisan Outfit 6% xp boost
Shaman Outfit 6% xp boost
Botanist's Outfit 6% xp boost
-In-game Method: flaspowder factory. A bit of a tedious mini-game that doesn't require a team to play.
Diviner 6% xp boost
Sous Chef 6% xp boost.
Farmer 6% xp boost
First age 6% xp bonus
Special Outfits If you own the regular (and cheaper) skilling outfit, all the benefits carry over to these outfits! You can destroy the other outfits and they will b kept in Diango's storage. Normally you start getting them at level 70 and have full pieces by level 80-85 from normal skilling. Though you get pieces from random outfits and mix and match doesn't work. Like wearing a fury shark gloves and white shark head won't increase any bonuses it will count as just one outfit piece. Pick one from each skill and complete it and move onto the next skill. If you own all the outfits (like full shark) then they can be combined for a slightly better bonus to skilling.
These cost 40K tokens for the full outfit ! (8k each piece)
Shark is the most useful to get as you can set it to eat fish you'd just drop and improve fish catch rate. This is another fishing outfit that when owned will give the shark outfit an XP bonuse. You obtain that from fish flingers and Alt 1 has a program to help with that. It isn't too terrible to get and is currently not being sold.
Gorajan is quite useful for dungeoneering. I'd say this is 2nd to Shark in usability.
Ethereal the chest piece holds 6 rune essence, basically an extra pouch! You need to have one complete outfit for this benefit.
Chronical can be the most helpful to just teleport you to some wisp locations. You get extra energies and chorincles.
Camouflage assists in the success rate of pick pocketing.
Sentinel assist in woodcutting success rate and obtaining nests along with teleports.
Trapper Improves hunter chance and you get extra resources along with some teleports.
Closing advice This is the start of day 2 of a 10 day event. You have time to slowly earn the dxp tokens and can wait until about day 7 or 8 to start getting any of these outfits. Only exception is that everyone should buy up the black ibis ASAP so you don't forget.
Slayer Masks These are very good for slayer tasks. Most of them you can 'force' a specific creature task by wearing the mask and getting the assignment from a slayer npc that normally assigns it. After so many kills (it changes depending on the mask) you will get a helm version which is cosmetic. Once the helm version is unlocked, the armor it gives gets a nice boost too. The armor is the same regardless if you use the helm or mask look. You will get a random one per purchase, but never get duplicates.

**BONUS Skilling Outfits not featured in the store that exist in the game! **
Fired Up ring and gloves Reward from All Fired Up.
Hunter Outfit Waiko reward shop.
Fishing Outfit Fish Flingers, Alt 1 has a plug in to help with this. There is also a friend chat FishFlingers (must use World 89)
Master Farming Outfit Can buy with beans and start getting fragments to assemble at level 70.
Master Constructor Outfit Obtained from construction contracts. You can speak to an estate agent to get started.
Archaeology Outfits Obtained from the Archaeology Guild

My first 99!!!

Wall of text incoming, so if you don't make it to the end, no worries! I'm so pumped about this and have no one else to share this with, so I'm glad to be able to share it with you fine folks. TL;DR is I got my first real 99 in this game!
I played the original runescape back in the day as a child, but was only ever F2P and never got a skill above 50. When OSRS launched, I made a normal account, got it to ~1500 and bought 99 cooking, but that never really felt like an accomplishment since I didn't do anything other than buy and sell the food. 6 months ago, I made this post asking for help on making money so I could grind construction to 99. As of last night, I finally achieved that goal and got what I consider my first REAL 99 ever in this game! The main advice was to use CG as my money maker, so I had spent a couple weeks learning it and getting it down. I only get 1-2 hours of focused game time a night, so after ~50 kc I realized if I was spending all my time doing CG for gold, I wasn't going to have any time for doing the actual construction grind.
I was originally planning to use teak planks because mahogany planks were just going to cost way to much to be worth it. I chopped and made ~10k teak planks by the beginning of October using the gold I made with CG. But with Forestry Part 2 coming out in a couple weeks and seeing the sawmill voucher was an item coming, I decided to hold off on grinding too much more to see how that item was going to work and how much bark it was going to cost. After the update and seeing how cheap the item was, I realized I'd be able to make mahogany planks for roughly the same price as what the teaks were originally going to cost me. The other upside, was that chopping fewer mahoganies was going to leave me with more AFK time during the day. That led me to my eventual gold making method, fletching.
Knowing I needed ~200k bark, I swapped over to magic logs after I finished chopping my ~15k mahoganies needed to make my ~30k planks. I ran temple trekking for bowstrings and fletched all the yew and magic logs I received, and then high alched them. This resulted in just enough gold to finish the grind (just over 30m), with ~500k left over. My method for getting bark was to buy the flower, pheasant, and fox event items and do every one of those. I did the other events occasionally, but those were the main 3 I did every time. The average bark per event was 350-600, and if the pheasant nests were all next to the forester, you could get 900+ from that one. I did all my chopping in Prif (which was great because I ended up with ~700 crystal shards from it). When I was doing fletching or casting plank make, I stood in either Draynor or Seer's bank so I could still do the events that would spawn.
On my path to 200k bark, I got the fox whistle and two golden eggs. The second golden egg was a blessing because when I got the first one, I had a regular pheasant egg in my inventory after the event ended so I assumed that was the golden egg. I played with ground items turned off because it's almost impossible to see things otherwise so I didn't realize my first egg was on the ground and I never picked it up. I got the second egg ~45 minutes after getting the fox whistle so I was pretty excited about that. I had gotten the beaver around 94 WC so I already had that when I got the other items.
My next few goals for the account are all going to revolve around maxing out my house now.
  • Acquire dragonstones for the jewerly box
  • Finish the quest cape/hard diaries so I have all teleport unlocks available
  • Get gold/runes/sceptre to finish out the portal nexus and altar
  • For gold making, I'll probably go back to the CG grind.
    • I've done virtually no PvM in my OSRS career so after getting the bowfa, I'll start getting into that. The fire cape and zulrah are the first two things on my list.

2024.01.30 20:54 Pixzle_ How I would "Fix" Runescape

Let's be honest. Runescape is kinda on the lower player count lately. I don't care if Q3/Q4 sales were up and bonds are going out stock like nuts, when I think of an active game I think of player retention and player activity. I have a few ideas as a player of over twenty years and 4 different accounts of varying styles of gameplay that may have a positive impact on the game, if you're willing to hear me out. Maybe this post reaches the right person.
  1. Player retention. A huge problem for getting players to pay for bonds/cosmetics/membership is you want them to have a reason to log-in and KEEP them on RS. So what does Jagex do? Release these gimmicky TH promotions (that everyone gets pissed about) but the whales still buy. Okay, but what if you listened to us fellow reddit warriors and tried something not so.. "Hero Pass-y"? What if to keep players on, you tried a different approach. An example I have is the Christmas Event. I loved it. The Jmods did a fanastic job on bringing the childhood feel in the art style, the quest, the rewards, everything. But what sucked ass? HOW you got the rewards. The one-a-week Santa hut was great, but what wasn't is this stupid ass Gold present/bag idea. Yeah, what every player wants to do is do MORE gambling by playing and earning papers for weeks to dump it for.. some shit cosmetic that was hastily made that doesn't even render in correctly for months and still not get their favorite cosmetic. My request/solution? Make a guaranteed reward. Be like after "x" amount of hours you just GET THE THING. How successful was BLM at Zamorak? It was great. You eventually just got a thing. It might have taken awhile, but you did. Imagine if every event you were guaranteed at least ONE santa hat or a dye or something. "But wah that devalues the price if everyone gets one". Okay and? This is a video game. If you want GP go buy bonds or just idk.. PLAY the game and kill stuff?
  2. Content Creator Rewards. I am not biased. I do not make content. But how neat would it be if Jagex SHOWED they care about their players? I really loved the idea of having content creators test out Necromancy before it's release. This was good! DO more of this! But the RS Twitch category is struggling. Most are low viewer streamers and I'll get onto why I think that is as well. But the largest thing you can do for nearly free advertisement is your content creators. TheRSGuy, Maikeru, (others I forget Im sorry) are all free advertisement if you treat them well, so how about a bond incentive? What I mean by this, is a creator code like how other games have it. You mark up bonds by say 5%. So say instead of 10$ for a bond (idk how much it really is) you charge 10.50$, BUT 50c goes straight to the content creator. This creates a whole new revenue source for content creators and would be REALLY rewarding for them to want to push out bonds for you. To sweeten the pot for players to WANT to do that, you could have deals like how players love the cheaper keepsake key deals and such. So maybe if you use "Code: Maikeru" on your premier this year, you may unlock a cosmetic pet themed around him. I think he's all about goblins or something? Imagine an in-game pet, only needed to be made by a JMod one time a year, that you can have a little goblin with a hat with an "M" on it that everytime you buy premier with that code, gets a new color themed override? Think, crown of loyalty but.. something a person might actually use..
  3. 25/75 proposal on updates. How many update patch notes do we get thats some garbage typo fix or a graphic fix to 15 year old content that we see maybe.. one time EVER in our gameplay? Who cares. Scroll through reddit, write down 10 different bugs you see players getting mad about in a month (like Zamorak, Lord of Chaos health bar being screwed for literally weeks) and just fix those as a priority? I can say with much certainty that slower content being developed would be okay by MOST players if they knew their money was going into the game being revised and fixed but.. in a more useful way. Yes, the smaller bugs ARE important, but instead of reading a patch notes thing and only seeing 2-3 REALLY good updates, why not release like 5-6 and then maybe 2-3 smaller fixes? Focusing time on patches that affect larger amounts of players seems.. smarter no?
  4. Graphical Interfaces. This is what throws off SOOOO many new players. I've seen this in-game, reddit, twitter, you name it. The UI system sucks. You start off as a new player with no REAL tutorial of how to edit the UI, WHY you would, nothing. It's just.. sorta implied you'd want to? There's no instructions of "hey having more action bars on your screen can be useful" or "maybe you DONT want to have every useful GUI stuffed into one overlapping tab fest?". My solution? Again, content developers. No, it's not their job, but I bet they'd still be willing. Why do I think that? How many people like RSGuy/Maikeru/etc have made videos on how to edit your overlay or are completely okay with saying it 10x in a month on stream to help noobs? A ton. I've even learned stuff about how to position things better thanks to them. And I figured that out YEARS ago. Let each content dev submit a screenshot, just one even, to you (Jagex) of their UI (maybe simplified even) and add those as presets. "RSGUY Preset 1" "Couchy Interface 1" whatever it may be. Imagine being able to be like "oh I see why player 1 puts this here, this is easier to read or manage, but player two has this instead over here, which fits my second screen better", etc. I see ALOT of people that would take inspiration from each others interfaces if they had EASIER access than just pulling up their stream and trying to micro-manage the VERY POORLY buried UI system themselves. It works fine enough, but you are never told it exists, or how to use it. Mod Stu, I bet you could nail this. You're a genius if you read this.
  5. Update Shops!!! How sad is it that MOST shops are.. useless? This is an MMO. Its very common for most shops to have stock of .. their stock. OSRS does really well with being able to world-hop to buy certain resources like runes or foods. I think a good stock example of what works well is the Mazcab Geobie shop. You only can buy ONE of each potion per like 30-60 seconds (something like that) but people do it because its GOOD. You can just skill and buy overload supps and it's great! But how many times (mostly an ironman problem but still a problem nevertheless) do you go to wiki, find that you can buy "x" quest item at the shop, then show up to realize it has 0 stock. Like why is that even on the list then. I'm not saying let us buy 100k water runes in 10 minutes, but maybe just update the shops so they do anything at all. Look at the useability and success of the Ooglog meat shop and the rune shops for viswax for ideas. The shops that sell like 5 swords for invention? Why not just bump it up? It's still not really efficient or cost effective, but if you have a decent bit of spare money and just need a few subtle parts, why not? Things of this nature I'd love to see worked on.
All in all, I haven't played Rs3 much myself for a long time. I think the community itself has driven me away with its constant inability to comprehend that the Jmods are not directly responsible for the content they are required to develop. They get paid to do as they are told. Fair. But they still get attacked on reddit and then the players whine why is no one listening or doing as we ask. Something something.. dont bite the hand that feeds you.. something something? I really hope someone takes even a portion of this and applies it to the game, even if it doesn't happen for some time. This game has given me so much, this was my attempt to give back.

2024.01.10 11:12 Inv0ker_of_kusH420 The problem isn't that PVM is "hard to get into", but rather that the process of learning PVM isn't fun.

People play videogames for fun. At least I do. If I don't have fun, i'm not playing.
So learning something like a PvM encounter can just be not fun.
First of all, the game is very bad at giving the player the information they need to tackle said encounters. This is very unique to Runescape, and kind of it's charm honestly. Instead of a classical MMO where there are Roles, you are simply everything at once. However, this is also why so many people wait for the Wiki to get updated, for Guides to be written because the process of finding out yourself simply isn't fun or rewarding, so just let someone else do it for you. Monster Examine doesn't even work on a newly released Monsters for 2 weeks because it's fun to be arbitrary. Keep in mind that for majority of people their experience with combat in this game is: Click on target to attack it, eat food when health low. Drink potions. This is what people teach themselves when playing the game.
So let's say you know the encounter and you engage in it. Well, you're learning so you died. But it isn't just trying again, but you respawned in Lumby. You now have to go back to grab your shit. Gotta go to the bank to grab something to teleport closest to the location where you died, grab your shit, regear, re setup your inventory etc. On top of that, enjoy paying your little fee for getting your items back. Your food and potions already spent on the encounter, also gone.
If you make a mistake, the game does an awful job on telling you what exactly you did wrong. Well, you just died.. to something. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it really isn't. The fact that people need to use plugins to make visuals clearer is a bad sign. Hmm, there is a shadow on the ground. Does this mean that there is an attack incoming there? I stand next to it, and I got hit. Why doesn't the shadow cover everything that will be hit?
This alone makes learning extremely tedious. And even if you learn a Boss, is the boss fun to kill repeatedly which Runescape bosses are supposed to be? Are you willing to put up with unintended mechanics because it's simply so good it be stupid not to do them (red x, butterfly), even if it's not intended? Raids are bloated with mechanics, and you're supposed to learn the entire thing until you get something out of it.
It's not about it being hard or difficult, it's just annoying. I'd rather be doing something else.
And this isn't critique. This isn't asking for change. This is simply being subjective. This is why the Rat King boss won't get people into PVM really. Because people either don't mind the way things are and are already into PvM, or they just won't bother.
And if you're curious, for the the "perfect" Boss in OSRS is Cerberus. The fight length, mechanics, rewards and grindability just feel perfect. If it wasn't a Slayer only Boss i'd probably be grinding it way more often than I already do.
Hope you enjoyed this essay as much as I enjoyed reading it. Also for the love of god, if you're making a boss a KING and don't give him a stuipd little crown, why bother?

2024.01.08 05:26 ThePresidentPlate How long would it take someone who has never played Runescape before to beat the Inferno?

If you took some random ass person off the street, locked them in a room with a PC and all other essentials like food, etc, told them the door only unlocks once an Infernal cape is on the account, how long would it take?
Here are the conditions:
1. The person has never played Runescape before. The mechanics of the game are completely unknown to them.
2. They are playing on an account with max stats and gear. After every death let's just assume they will respawn back on Wave 1 with fresh supplies. No other grinding is required, just pure Inferno.
3. (optional, but I'd like to see opinions on this) No looking up game or Inferno mechanics. Everything must be discovered through trial and error. Food, waves, prayers, movement, everything.
What would be the time difference between being able to look up mechanics and guides vs going in blind? What about experienced gamer vs normie? How long do you think it would take before they escape my basement the room?
Edit: Condition 3 is now optional.

2023.12.11 16:13 Noktawr Feedback & what is there to do / how much content is there?

I just started playing the game, to be completely honest, wouldn't be my type of game to play if it wasn't for my GF. She's not a big gamer by any means, but loves that type of game (She plays a bunch of Disney Dreamlight Valley which is pretty much the same but offline from what I understand)
Anyways, back on topic, I started playing with my this weekend, while I'm more of a big MMO gamer, I didn't dislike playing the game with my GF, grinding the skills level reminded me somewhat of runescape or other game alike with life skills that can be leveled up. All in all we probably played around 5-8 hours together.
Once I was alone, it was grind time. My GF is more of a relaxed person, but me, as I said, I'm an MMO veteran, a min/maxer, a farmer, etc. I started grinding Copper and hunting. Made myself ludicrous amounts of copper arrows and proceeded to exterminate deers. I've farmed enough hides/food to unlock all 4 bag slots, a bunch of slots for my house through rep, new crafting station slots x3 and a bunch of crop slots from the farmer guy as well as getting a bunch of cooking levels.
Then I started grinding mining and gathering which turned into furniture (Using my wood) making skill going up as well. In a matter of a couple extra hours I was able to reach full iron stuff for mining, hunting, gathering.
Here's the feedback I can give on the game currently

Multiplayer play

General feedback / feature I'd love to see added

I'll preface this saying again that this isn't my type of game, though I discussed with my GF and we've came to this conclusion

I probably have more ideas that we thought about but honestly, I can't think of them right now.

Lastly, as my tittle stand, how much content is there currently/what is there to do? I only played about 12-15 hours total if not less, and I feel like "progression" wise, I'm almost at the end of the road as far as tools quality are concerned which I feel was fairly short/easy to reach. I understand that there is rep with all characters that can be obtained, maxing our your house plot/upgrades. Building your house to your likings etc. but honestly, even that, I feel is something that would be achieved fairly quickly if you put the time and effort into the game.
I know it is not by any means a game for "hardcore" players/gamers, and probably more of a game for casual gamers to enjoy and take their time in. But I can't help myself and think about players that LOVE that type of game and goes hard on it day in they out as their main game because they love it. As I said, I've put very little hours into the game and its not my #1 go to game, so what do you die hard fans of the game do?

EDIT 1 : One major idea I forgot to mention is mini-games.
There could be a way for players to play mini-games together. Some kind of card game or connect4 type stuff. Checkers, or chess you know, mini-games. Something to play around.

2023.11.15 04:16 BioMasterZap Teleports/Fairy Rings and Shops for each Region

With today's reveals, we now know how the T2 Relics, Globetrotter and Fairy's Flight, work so I've made a more up-to date version of this post from the other day. Also, I've still included the shop section at the end for Fire Sale.
So, whether you are trying to decide between relics or just looking for information on your regions (or trying to decide regions), hopefully this info will be helpful.

Globetrotter (Nexus and Jewellery Box Teleports):
Globetrotter allows the player to teleport to any Portal Nexus or Ornate Jewellery Box teleport. It is worth noting that while many of these teleports may be accessible without the Globetrotter relic, you may not be able to obtain some teleports in your region even if the teleport goes to your region. For example, you need Wilderness to charge Rings of Wealth, Legends' Quest (Fremennik) to charge Combat Bracelets and Skills Necklaces, Fremennik for Lunar Teleports, Kourend for Arceuus Teleports, and Desert for Ancient Teleports.
Also, some teleports may be redundant or limited usefulness (e.g., Falador and Falador Park). Your regions may also have access to other teleport items that can act as alternatives (e.g. Chronicle to Champions Guild, Ghommal's Hilt to Trollheim). For a list including non-Nexus teleport spells and non-Jewellery Box jewellery teleports, see the previous list.

Fairy's Flight (Fairy Rings, Spirit Trees, and Leprechaun)
Fairy's Flight allows players to teleport to all Fairy Rings, Spirit Trees, and Leprechaun. But even if you aren’t interested in that relic, this section can also be a useful reference for all of your region's Fairy Rings (and their codes) or to see which Farming Patches are available in each region.
Italics Fairy Rings are ones with limited usefulness. Italics Spirit Trees are player-grown, but they also all have Leprechaun (which are also counted in the total).

Fire Sale (Notable Shops):
Well, we now know Fire Sale is paired against Banker's Note and not the Teleports, but I already made a list of shops per region, so I figured it was worth including again. There are so many shops that it is hard for a list to cover everything, but hopefully this list covers all the main shops you'd be interested in using to help compare regions and weigh your choices. If you are looking to review the shops, I'd suggest the Wiki's Shop Template, which breaks down all shops by area. Items covered by Misthalin/Karamja (Starting Region) shops are not listed in other regions unless the other region has a better version of the shop (e.g. higher quantity).

2023.11.13 01:47 BioMasterZap Teleports and Shops by Region

After seeing the Fire Sale Relic reveal today, I was looking into notable shops in my regions and ended up expanding it to cover teleports to compare to the suspected other T2 Relics. While I was at it, I figured I'd do it for all regions since I figured I wasn't the only one interested in it.
Also, as a quick disclaimer, while this info may be useful on its own, it was made with the intent of comparing T2 Relics. Since we don't have confirmation on the T2 Relics or exactly how they will work, some of this is more speculation on what would be included and some of the info may be incorrect or at least incomplete. If there is anything important I missed, let me know.
Shops (Fire Sale):
For this one I tried to look at all the shops to list noteworthy things per region. I used the Wiki's Shop's Template which already breaks down by area, but there are so many things to consider so I probably missed some things of note. Also, while not confirmed, it is speculated that Fire Sale will be T2 due to the cracks on the relic.
Teleports (Globetrotter):
Whether you are looking at Relics, POH, or just travel, here are the spell and jewelry teleports per region. The Globetrotter Relic is the only known T2 Relic, but we don't know exactly what it does. It seems it is a buffed version of the Eternal Jeweller Relic from last Trailblazer that includes all Portal Nexus and Orante Jewellery Box Teleport, but it might include teleports not on the Nexus, such as Trollheim, or Jewellery not in the Jewellery Box, such as the Necklace of Passage.
The teleports listed in the brackets [] are ones not in the Nexus/Jewellery Box. Also, some teleports may be redundant (e.g., 2 Fishing Guild teles), but I counted them in totals anyway.
Fairy Rings:
Everyone will start the League with Fairy Ring access, so regions with more Fairy Rings may be advantageous. The useless/limited use Fairy Rings are put in brackets.
There is also an unannounced relic with an icon very similar to the Fairy's Flight Relic from the first Trailblazer. Since it was a T2 Relic alongside Eternal Jeweller, it seems likely this new Fairy Ring may be a T2 alongside Globetrotter. But until it is announced, we don't know what it will do, but there is a decent chance it will still at least have Fairy Ring access from anywhere if not more.
Also, if anyone wanted to take the information and put it in a nice spreadsheet or infographic, feel free.

2023.11.09 20:56 SectorPale Removing Kourend Favour is a mistake

Could it use some work? Yes. Do we need an entire tab showing us favour? No. But removing the system altogether is just removing a perfectly fine piece of content.
Favour forces you to explore and do content you wouldn't otherwise do in Kourend which is a good thing. And if anything, I'd argue that it's a better model of a one-time "achievement" system than the Achievement Diaries. You actually have choices in the Favour system, and those choices expand as you get more Favour. The tasks for Kourend Favour are actually integrated into the worldbuilding of each area rather than being random skilling activities. When you are healing wounded soldiers or cooking food for them you actually feel like you are making a difference in-universe, and the fact that you are actually being helpful is acknowledged and integrated into npc dialogue in and out of quests.
Getting 100% Favour in all houses is as quick if not quicker than getting the Full Prospector task for Falador hard, and is infinitely more tolerable. It is honestly one of the chillest reputation-type systems you'd find in any mmo. If the Kourend system is honestly so fundamentally bad and rotten that it needs to be removed outright rather than reworked, then jagex should remove Runescape 3's Menaphos reputation system as well since it is honestly much worse.

2023.10.27 20:34 JakeSteam I have fallen in love with "Idle Iktah", here's my full review (and screenshots) after 3 weeks

Idle Iktah (IdleIktah) is an idle game reminiscent of RuneScape and Melvor Idle. It left beta a couple of weeks ago and I've played it non-stop since then. Help.
This entire review was written after playing the game for just 3 days (v1.0.0). 2 weeks later, my feelings on it have only grown more positive! At the time of the original review my stats were all mid-30s, now they are all mid-70s. Once they're all 99 I'll finally be able to escape!
I'm happy to confirm that the game continues to get deeper and deeper as you progress, and the developer is extremely responsive on Discord. For example, a few feature suggestions in my original review have already been added to the game. It's also been a great help searching the Discord for more obscure items / quests.
The game is available on iOS and Android.
If you'd like to view this post with fancy formatting (and no ads), it's up on my site.
Idle Iktah is a dangerous game: It's like RuneScape, but singleplayer and idle. Uh oh.

Review

I spotted this game from an incremental_games post, and I've been playing it almost constantly since then. It's RuneScape-inspired, but with plenty of different skills, different mechanics, different items, etc.
The basic gameplay is essentially choosing a skill, choosing what action / item to use, then pressing "Start". There are also battles, with critical hits, drop rates, food, tomes, etc. Whilst this gameplay is relatively simple, the very clean and focused UI as well as balanced game design allows for some deeply satisfying gameplay loops. Additionally, once you understand the UI, you can look at the XP / effects of any action even whilst your actions are happening in the background.
However, what really makes it stand out is how expertly new content is drip-fed to the player. I've tried Melvor Idle before, and it was all a bit overwhelming and "online", which just isn't what I'm interested in. Iktah cleverly only shows you the next couple of "locked" items / areas for each skill, so you never feel like you've barely started the game, even 10 minutes in.
Speaking of skills, even these are not all revealed at the start. Whilst you do have access to "gathering" and "crafting" skills early on, multiple additional ones appear unexpectedly just as you're starting to finish one part of the content! Unlike many idle games, where you're just waiting for the chance to click the button / upgrade the machine / etc, Idle Iktah has a much more complex gameplay loop. Every skill has it's own unlocks and levels, with synergy between them, just like RuneScape. For example high fishing will catch better fish, which give more cooking xp, which help fighting harder monsters, etc.
Whilst the discovery aspect of the game is excellently implemented, I am also very impressed by the complexity of the interactions between the skills. The complex relationships between skills means the game manages to catch the "lightning in the bottle" feeling that games like RuneScape and Skyrim gave me: having multiple things I am excited to do ASAP.
Instead of waiting until I have enough coins to upgrade something, I can mine some ore so I can smelt a bar so I can smith a pickaxe head so I can craft a pickaxe so I can mine ore faster. Except uh oh, that requires a higher crafting level! Time to hunt some monsters so I can get some leather so I can make some bags so I can.... you get the idea.
Just like with RuneScape, you'll often find yourself doing actions in bulk since they are good XP. For example, making 100 wooden chairs for the Carpentry XP. Unlike RuneScape though, even junk items have plenty of uses: They can be traded with traders that appear from time to time for rare shells (which are used to buy items from the traders), or they can be broken down into their "core" for use in Enchanting.
Iktah is very intentionally offline-only, and even the "Community" skill refers to your in-game local area! This is the only kind of game I enjoy, and I'm really happy the developer hasn't implemented any "clans", usually used to encourage players to spend more real money.
I've been playing Idle Iktah pretty obsessively the last few days, and could write paragraphs more about it, but the final positive is the helpful notifications. Notifications can be customised for level-ups, new areas, new traders etc, and it's a great way to leave the game in the background until a bulk crafting job is done. Inside the game, crafted items / level-ups appear "over" whatever window you have open, ensuring you always know what is going on, even if you are deep inside a submenu.
Idle Iktah has pretty good offline progress (50% unless doubling with ads for up to 24hr), however I had it open a lot and the battery drain is tiny, far less than a browser / video / most games.
Finally, there is a Discord (350+ members, friendly), Twitter (unused), and Subreddit (quiet, patch notes only).
In terms of improvements, I'd love to see:
  • Statistics on how many X I've killed / created.
  • The quest screen could show how far towards the unlock criteria (e.g. 4/10 kills). Added!
  • A "time left" for long jobs, to avoid me having to keep doing mental multiplication! Added!
  • The ability to rename bags for easier categorisation.
  • More detailed help for the equipment screen. For example, my sword has a "sun" enchant on it... what does that do!?

Monetisation

There are pretty standard optional adverts when you open the game, allowing you to double your offline earnings.
Additionally, there is a shop where perks (e.g. XP booster, tomes for combat, etc) can be purchased, but none of them feel too overpowered. All are essentially time skips, and can be obtained through normal gameplay anyway. They're quite expensive, from £2 for 50x double attach speed tomes to £8 for 25x Master potion (1hr double XP).
I purchased a permanent advert removal for £5. This doubles all offline earnings (as if you'd watched an ad), and provides a daily Mastery potion, but I primarily purchased it to support the developer's excellent work.

Early-game Tips

As mentioned, the game does an amazing job of giving you information and guidance, so I won't mention anything covered within the game. I'd also recommend checking the Discord for more.
  • Always make sure you are doing *something*. Whilst figuring out a complex crafting process, have some woodcutting happening in the background.
  • Perform as many operations on an item as you can. The more processes items go through, the more likely they are to earn you high XP or be worth a lot to traders. For example, instead of selling wood, process it into planks then furniture first. Or, instead of selling a gathered resource, make a potion that can then be used for an enchant. This takes much longer, but earns you more XP and resources than instantly trading would.
  • Prioritise completing quests. The tasks (accessible via the skill select menu) give great rewards, and often unlock new content.
  • Turn potion autodrink on. Potions can be set to autodrink via the "infinity" symbol when opening them in the inventory. This only triggers when you are actively training that skill, and you have actively drunk the first potion. It's safe to leave it on for all potions you want to use.
  • Turquoise can be used to double rare shells. At level 50ish Alchemy, you can create a "Headhunter potion" for 1 rare shell & 1 turquoise. Whilst turquoise sells to traders for 0.15 shells, a headhunter potion sells for 2 shells! This means you can essentially convert all turquoise into rare shells by creating the potion and selling.
  • Inventory space is tight. You'll probably learn this very early on, but inventory space is the main enemy until you can craft big bags! Some ways to utilise it as efficiently as possible are:
    • Be organised. If you have junk everywhere, you'll never have any space. Use additional bags, have a system. For example, I use "Main bag", "Fishing / woodcutting", "Mining", "Potions / to sell".
    • Train crafting. Crafting lets you create additional mini-inventories, and eventually (Lev 20-30+) you can create specialised inventories (e.g. for rings or food). I'm hoping there's plenty more of these to unlock.
    • Progress things. Instead of leaving 30 level 1 fish around, cook them and use them in combat! It tidies up your inventory without having to delete the items. This applies to crafting ingredients, ores, fish, wood, etc.
  • Items have rarities. If you open an item in your inventory, some may have a coloured border. This gives a good indicator of whether an item actually matters, which can be very hard to work out when it seems to have no use. For example, a "Grasshopper" has no border, so it's probably fine to just use or trade it. However, an "Ancient coin" has an orange border, so I should hang onto it until I work out what it's for. The rarity seems to be the standard scale:
    • Common (White)
    • Uncommon (Green)
    • Rare (Blue)
    • Epic (Purple)
    • Legendary (Orange)
  • Gather overnight. Perhaps obvious, but don't do any crafting overnight in case you run out of materials. Do tasks like fishing or woodcutting that have no limits.
  • Everything has value. All traders will buy all items (except the very basic resources). However, cheap items like "Bluegill" fish will require 834(!) in exchange for a single rare shell! As such, items should never be deleted if possible, and trading in resources you have no use for (e.g. wooden chairs) is a good way to earn shells for the trader's items.
  • You are semi-immortal. So long as you don't get one-hit, you can survive any damage since your character can eat multiple fish per turn. This means a fish that heals 1 is just a useful as one that heals 10, so long as you don't run out!
  • Hang on to rarer things. Since you level skills separately, you'll pretty often gain a non-common item that seems to have no purpose. Hang onto it, you'll wish you had it later on!
  • Claim Mastery Potion ASAP. If you've paid for the ad-free experience, your Mastery Potion is available every 20 hours. This timer starts when you claim it, so make sure to do this as soon as it is available.

Screenshots

There are 12(!) skills in the game, plus combat, so the screenshots below only show a little of the game! The skills generally work similarly, so the Crafting screenshot is representative.

2023.10.15 02:58 Lack-Miserable Necromancy literally saved my job!

My company's been going through a rough patch as of late and they started announcing layoffs. I was scared because I don't bring a lot to the table in my department, so I wasn't sure if I would make it. I've been really enjoying Necromancy in Runescape the third. It's a great skill, and I've been able to do a lot of bosses I'd never even dreamed of killing before it, like AOD. I recently found out my boss plays the game as well, and that he's quite new to it.
Suddenly, I had a great idea. What if I convinced him to join me at an AOD hour with my friends? Needless to say, he was impressed! My skeleton ravaged Nex, and my ghost pumped me full of health while spooking her, which makes her take significantly more damage for some reason. When amalgamations spawned I threads of fated and killed them all at once. I was unstoppable!
He called me into his office Monday morning, and told me I had made the cut, as long as I'd take him to additional hours. Tomorrow we're going Solak, and I'm going to show him how to skip the roots from spawning on his first hour. Maybe he'll give me a raise!
Thank you Jagex for adding this skill to the game. Not only am I able to feel good about myself for mastering difficult and intricate rotations, but it might've literally saved my job! Necromancy has kept food on my family's table, and I couldn't be more grateful.

2023.10.11 23:42 HansOmadik Returning Player compeltely lost

Returning Player compeltely lost
Hello there, first time posting here, hope this is right.
I've played a lot of runescape when I was younger. Maybe 2008 or so. I'd like to get into runescape 3 and it seem the combat and everything is completely different.
Here are my stats:
My stats
I'd like to do slayer for combat gameplay and I've read that it's also a good skill for making money.

I've been trying to understand mage combat, rotations, gear and what not and have a few questions:
1- If I understand correctly, leaving it on revolution is the best for now. Does it work well for leveling up/making money with slayer?
2- Could someone quickly explain combat? Is it click on monster, use food from inventory when health low, wait for it to die, grab loot from floor, repeat? How does a basic fight at my level look like? I know that bossing is a thing, but I have no idea how to get into it. Considering my account has some decent skill levels, I imagine I could kill something worth killing?
3- I've read that a good weapon is the best investment vs armor. I currently have 39m (I was damn rich back then D: ) and found that Cywir wand and orb are very good mid tier weapons for mage. They'd be around 35m right now, which is almost all of my money. Is it worth buying those? If not, what suggestions would you have for splitting my budget for combat/money making with slayer?
4- To be honest I have no idea what I'm doing lol. Any suggestion on what to do/goals to have for now and just fun things to do would be appreciated. In case focusing on slayer is a waste of time due to something I don't know about.
Thanks friends!
