I once won first prize in a contest through YTV. When i entered, i had no clue what first prize was, all I knew was I was after 3rd prize : pokemon silver for the gameboy! Well a few weeks passed and my mom sat me down and told me I had won FIRST PRIZE! It was a trip to Chicago to see Pokemon The Musical. HOW COOL IS THAT? So i ended up going, my dad took me and I also brought my best friend and my cousin! I did an interview for some news station and mentioned that I was originally after 3rd prize. Well when we got to the hotel in chicago, there were gift baskets.AND GUESS WHAT WAS IN THERE. YUP. POKEMON SILVER FOR THE GAMEBOY. It was a great experience, i even spent my 10th bday there (good timing or what?!).
Anyways i just wanted to share my experience as I was thinking about it today. Thanks for reading and thank you YTV! :3

Hi everyone!
My boyfriend just graduated university and will be having a small celebration party in June. I would love to make him a basket of detailing products as a little gift.
I do know the wax brand he likes but that is essentially all (if I ask for pictures, I know he will get suspicious). He spends a great deal detailing his truck and has a small local business with it. Hey guys, my wife’s due date is coming up very soon and I want to get her something nice and meaningful for her and I’m kind of stuck. We have so much baby stuff, mostly from our loving family and friends, so I think we’re pretty squared away on that stuff. Posting here because I need help/advice. I 28f have been with my bf 27m for 5 years now. My bf has difficulty holding down jobs. He was always looking for something better which was fine. However last year he quit his job and took on drinking and taking edibles daily. It’s embarrassing to admit but I stayed thru it all. He used insta cart and doordash to make his monthly bills but it’s not enough. I’ll pitch I here and there to help with his car payment. I’ll break down in bullet points bc i don’t know how else to tell my story.
Holidays: For Christmas I bought his family gifts and had him say it was from both of us. I knew they were getting us gifts and I didn’t want to get something without giving them something?? None of my family knows how bad it is. I’m really close to them and I just brush things off. I lied and told them he finally found a job but he hasn’t. I didn’t get a Christmas gift. But I gave him money. He took me to a steak house for my birthday. Paid for it. Then asked I pay back for my meal bc he miscalculated and needed the money. He did buy me flowers for Valentine’s Day. I bought us an expensive dinner for his bday. I will admit I like a certain type of lifestyle even if I can’t afford it so I may overspend on things.
Addiction: Recently he lost his wallet which meant no Id which meant he couldn’t go to the dispensary or buy alcohol. He ended up finding his wallet but I offered to hold onto his id. It was going well but one day I left an expired id with him so he could buy a beer. I left and came back 24hrs later and he was drunk at 5pm. He gets overly emotional and depressed when he’s drunk and I don’t know what to do other than comfort him. Before I would say I was going to storm off or leave him and that would send him into a deeper spiral so now I nod and try to appease him.
Credit card debt: I’ve been swiping my card for food and drinks for both of us. He uses my car for DoorDash which means I pay for the gas. Before he quit his job (he had been unemployed for 3 months before his most recent job) he really wanted and oled tv and asked I put it on my card and he would pay me back. He made payments for the three months that he was employed then stopped. He ended up selling the tv it was $1,100 he kept the money to pay his bills and buy weed. I finished paying off the card myself. I’m in such a hole borrowing money in hopes I can cover my ass until the next paycheck. I got a part time job im starting soon which should help me a lot. I make a decent wage.
Financially irresponsible: we went on a trip to the casino (he was still employed at this time) I booked the hotel on my credit card. He ended up winning $5,000!!! The first night there. Want to guess what he did next??? He took copious amounts of edibles and blew $3,000 of it on more gambling. He won another $1,000 and also blew that. With the remainder he bought a pc AND I had to beg him to pay me for his half of the hotel room. He did pay for dinners and lunch while we stayed there.
Promises: he says he’ll pay me back. I’ve helped him make his car payments. I help him with food. He says things are going to change. He paints this really pretty picture that I so badly want to be true. But it’s MAY 2024. He quit his job June 2023. He promised me Christmas he promised me my birthday gifts. All which fell flat. And now I just feel like a fool. He says once he starts working he’ll pay me back.
I’ve been helping him apply to place none call him back. He also can’t pass a drug test currently.
Relationship: aside from the money I think we’re okay? We trust each other we love each other. When we’re together we’re always laughing and having a good time. We get along. On weekends we take turns on who gets to pick the movie. He’ll watch twilight and mean girls with me.
The only thing is when he is in withdrawal or hungover he becomes easily agitated and needs space to calm down. The worst he’s done is raise his voice and so do I. Normally he just needs to walk it off or blow off the steam and things get better. He’ll hyper fixate on something I did and call me out on it. I’ll apologize but he won’t let off of it when he gets like that there is nothing I can say to change things. In my mind if I did something wrong I get it I’m sorry but there’s nothing I can do to change it? But if he lies or does something he brushes it off and gets upset with me for being upset at his lying?! He’s a terrible texter and never answers his phone. If I needed immediate help I’d be out of luck. But I always have to be there for him. Let’s say he’s having a bad day he needs me there and wants me there. I have to drop everything and if I don’t he feels bad and guilt trips me.
In the end what I would like to see is him get clean and sober find a good job so we can buy a house have a family. Right now he is on an upswing where he makes his promises that things will get better and things will change. If things crash again and he fails to find a job I will have no choice but to leave even if I don’t want to. Go ahead and roast me bc I know I should know better but I can’t bring myself to leave him.

Last year was my first Mother’s Day. My sister and I went over to my mom’s house to give her a couple gifts and to of course wish her a happy Mother’s Day. We all sat down at the table and my mom gave my childless sister a “dog mom” present. It was this big basket of little dog mom related things. I wasn’t expecting anything prior to going over there but when I saw that my sister had received a present I assumed I would get one too especially since it was my first Mother’s Day. My present never came though. Now in fairness I really couldn’t care less about gifts. I found it odd though that my sister who isn’t even a real mom got a present but I got nothing. After we left my sister even texted me thinking it was weird that I didn’t get anything and figured my mom just spaced. So I confronted my mom a couple days afterwards and asked her “Do you realize you got my sister a dog mom present but didn’t get me anything?” And she responded with “Yes, I know that. You’re not my mother so why would I get you something?” And I just felt so taken back by that. I left it alone but my feelings continued to be hurt by the situation. Fast forward a whole year to this Mother’s Day. I go onto Facebook and see that my mom commented on our pastors wife’s post, who just gave birth, and commented “happy first Mother’s Day” and when I tell you the amount of rage I felt was overwhelming. According to my mom, she won’t wish happy Mother’s Day to someone who isn’t her mother so why would she say that to her? I was only 3 months postpartum last year and was in the depths of postpartum depression. We struggle with infertility and last month we had a miscarriage. So Mother’s Day was already hard this year. I truly don’t care about gifts but the fact that she would wish someone she hardly knows a happy Mother’s Day but absolutely refuses to acknowledge me as a mother is so crazy to me. Especially when I’ve gone through so much. So I made the decision to not say a single thing to her that day. I spent the day with my husband and daughter and it was amazing. She called me yesterday and asked me “did you forget to say something to me yesterday?” And I said “no, why?” And she said “you didn’t wish me a happy Mother’s Day” and I replied with “well I’m a mother too now” which she replied “but you’re not my mother” and I said “well neither is the pastors wife yet you wished her a happy Mother’s Day” instantly my mom got mad at me. She said “you’re just being rude now” and I said “I think it was rude that last year was my first Mother’s Day and I was struggling and you didn’t say shit to me but got my sister a dog mom present” she then hung up on me. I don’t regret my decision though. I feel as though I deserve an apology. Thoughts?

"The gift of war." the alien attorney for the humans said through a translator, in English.
"Well, that is what I thought you had meant." the other alien considered: "that humans offer the singular gift of warfare, but then you mentioned the cataclysmic attack on your home world and colonies, the eradication of your people."
"No, that isn't what I was referring to, at least not directly. I meant it should be obvious that humans alone are capable of engaging this enemy unknown. We should be grateful, for without their sacrifice, enduring a history of warfare, there would be no hope." Osowl stated.
"I will not agree with you. We Sunder could find a way to deal with the Dark Beings. We've done such a thing before." Eshka conversed.
"To the Skiesene?" Osowl Fitten, the alien attorney who looked like an armored sea otter to the humans asked.
"Yes. Ages ago we put an orbital shoal around their planet. They cannot leave, there will be no ascent for them." Eshka said with the artificial emotions in the translator inflecting something like hesitation.
"Yes, and for that there are no Skiesene flying around the Milky Way. So you did what was best for all others, beside the Skiesene. Quite clever." Osowl gently teased her friend, reminding her of their ancient rivalry.
"What would you have said, to overturn such a case? You could have stopped me." Eshka wondered.
"I'd have told the judges we cannot fathom how Skiesene will treat others. The violence among them is entirely ritualized. We cannot be certain such a drastic measure is necessary." Osowl said after her companion waited patiently for the attorney to think of what she wanted to say.
"That's it?" Eshka gestured dissatisfaction with the rebuttal.
"Do you think the judges wouldn't overturn your recommendation with such an argument?" Osowl asked coyly.
"Well, I don't think that. I know better. It just lacks flair, there's no compelling idiom to go with it. Perhaps by asking a question?" Eshka hissed quietly in Sunderian, the main language of the Sunder, while using universal gestures with her hands and dancing moodily with her long serpentine coils.
"Then I would say it better, your way, like: 'how can we be sure this is the correct measure of action, when we have only seen Skiesene use violence in rituals that have complex rules they strictly follow? and allow the judges to reconsider the Sunder recommendation."
"But not the verdict? You never go for the prize, you are so modest - so moderate. Why is that?" Eshka complained.
"It is my way." Osowl said simply, twitching her whiskers against the boney part of her jaw, in her own language. The Sunder needed this repeated several times to decipher it, but the human got it and said:
"It is how she does it. She does it how she prefers." Jinar translated into English.
"I see. You do not think my suggestions are an improvement. That is okay. I am with you from now on, and when my way does not prevail, we have yours, which always does, in the end." Eshka said.
Admiral Jinar changed the subject:
"We talk about everything except where we are going. Do you not worry about preparing yourselves to produce a war? We have no funding, among the Combine, they will not give us a defense budget that is not merely a fraction of their minimal planetary defenses. I've got my best lieutenants trying to figure out how we can talk them into bringing back the Combine Unified Forces. When I return they will report to me and we shall make our move on the Combine. Before that happens, we will tour the galaxy and see what help we can get from these new friends of humanity. Humans are the last aliens standing between all you stuffed animals and those giant plasma shooting bug demons. We got to make believers out of everyone, convince them they should do their part in the war effort."
"Your plan is admirable. We go to three worlds that will let us come to them for trade. The first will be the Sunder colony of Basilik, those are the ones you asked for who craft artifice for our purposes. After that, we have Tarnac where the Riftin are weaving baskets. Last on our tour we'll head for Arienta and visit the Blue Light Watchers to see what alchemical wonders they will make glow for us if we ask them to show off their chemistry." Eshka said with some kind of pseudo-approval.
"Admiral, I don't get it. We visit some snakemen and then on to the basket weaving monkeys and then we turn around where the punk rock tarantulas are brewing pharmaceuticals. What's our mission?" Skipper McCain asked.
"That's enough of that. We need the Sunder creativity in weapon design, I wanna have surprises for the Unknown, like Christmas morning. The Riftin are an ascended species, I'm sure they can do more than weave baskets, so we'll go find out. Those drugs you mentioned, they could induce Star Sleep in humans if we asked them nicely. You wanna live forever, Skipper?"
"No Admiral, I just didn't realize what the plan could be. I'm not even at half your IQ, I just see monkeys weaving baskets, I don't see what you see." Skipper McCain said.
"Honey, just fly the ship. I didn't bring you to question me." She said.
"The ship flies itself, and I am sure that is what you brought me for." He said.
"They are just monkeys weaving baskets. Where are those Skiesene you mentioned?" Admiral Jinar asked Eshka.
"They live on the moons of Kriesene, each of their clans on a different moon. There is no way to easily get to them, for their world is surrounded by shoals." Eshka sounded oddly worried.
"And they can fight? They aren't pacifists?" Admiral Jinar asked.
"Well, they are capable of a highly ritualized form of violence. It is quite horrifying, I think even you humans would be appalled by their massacres." Eshka said. "I argued they should be contained and I won. Now it is so. I have a regret, for I have reconsidered what the right course would be. If you wish to risk our lives to visit them, hoping for warriors, then I will come, for I feel responsible for their fate, as I have spoken against them." Eshka said solemnly.
"This visit will be added to our itinerary." Admiral Jinar said, "But we are going to make our appointments. There is no war machine, we have to build it."
