2024.05.10 23:48 maks1411 Can't install windows on new MoBo

I bought new MoBo (MSI B550-A PRO) and new system block (or unit/case, i don't know what's the right word). Plugged everything in and saw something about "your setup has changed so windows not working now". I just decided to reinstall it as I did few times already some time ago.
I created a USB flash with windows through EtchDroid on my phone. After launching PC i see Windows Boot Manager, choosing "install windows" and "Loading files" bar after.
After bar is completed, I see MoBo logo and loading, then blue screen and a few seconds later "downloading drivers, wait..."
Then I get "Error! Windows installation files not found" and some instructions about what i should try to do
I tried CSM, UEFI, different USB ports, unplugging RAM and plugging it in every slot, reinstalling different BIOS versions, creating new boot USB flash with different windows (10 and 11), launching memtest and i still get this error. If I press Ok, it opens up a Snappy Driver Installer r496, but I don't know what to do with it
Can someone explain me what else I should try or is it some unsolving problem lol

2024.05.07 21:47 rczrider Any working methods for removing tap limit on A13 and/or A14?

I had a Pixel 7 Pro (Android 14) and two cars with $100 generic, Chinese head units that utilized Zlink to emulate AA. Everything worked great.
Got a new car with AA baked in and I discovered that the tap limit is a thing. I get that it's for "safety", but it resets my position necessitating even more tapping to get back to where I was, which is annoying me enough that I'd rather fiddle with my phone instead of the car's screen...which is arguably even more dangerous. I don't use voice because it's utter shit in my car and works less than half the time.
Anyway, dropped my P7P at just the right angle that the unprotected curved part of the screen hit the pavement (aside: I will never have a curved screen again!) and shattered the screen. Got a Moto Stylus 5G 2023 (Android 13) to hold me over until a good deal on a P8P pops up. I picked the Moto because it was bootloader unlockable and able to be rooted.
When using the Moto, not only is the tap limit enforced on the new car (expected!), but on the other car as well (unexpected!). This is confusing to me; the P7P had a tap limit only with proper AA, never with the Zlink HU...but the Moto does with both?
That seems odd, but I don't know crap about Android Auto other than the tap limit causes more problems than it solves. I'd like to remove it, but what I've tried so far doesn't seem to work. I assume this is because of the newer (11.x?) build and other solutions (namely SAAX and AA AIO Tweaker) only work with older builds.
Okay, so I used De-bloater to remove AA as a system app and installed 9.9.x of AA. Then used Termux with terminal_systemizer module of Magisk to make the downgraded version into a system app; otherwise I get a red screen from AA with error 22 indicating that it's supposed to be a system app or some such thing. Then I use AA AIO Tweaker to disable to tap limit.
Where I'm getting hung up is that AA wants to update before running, which breaks the mod (assuming the mod was going to work in the first place). I tried using Blocker from F-Droid to disable various "receiver" and "service" functions of AA (with the thought of stopping it from checking for an update in the first place), but it updates upon first connection to an AA vehicle, anyway.
So, does anyone successfully use Android Auto with the tap limit disabled? If so, which version of Android are you using? How did you make it happen?
EDIT: after seeing this post where a user got flayed alive for wanting to do the same thing, I'm guessing this post will also consist mostly of "use voice assistant" and "you're a fucking menace on the road" and "jesus christ you're going to get everyone killed and our insurance is so high because you should have bought a car with a better microphone array you piece of shit". That's fine, I can't get negative post downvotes and internet points don't actually mean anything, anyway. Help or rant, whatever makes you feel good.

2024.05.06 22:14 avram-meir My dumbphone experience so far (Sunbeam F1 Pro Maple)

Backstory: I previously owned a Pixel 3. I do not use Facebook/Twitter etc., and used the phone mainly for podcasts, email, chatting with family and friends, taking family photos, checking weather and news, a hotspot for working remotely, and occasional apps for parking, groceries, and banking. Despite the "limited" usage and attempts to dumb down the phone (using OLauncher, removing apps, disabling apps), my screen time was much higher than I liked. We took a trip last summer, and my 2-year old dropped the phone on a hotel room floor, cracking the screen. In December one morning, the phone completely stopped working. One of my older sons told me he was glad the phone was broken, because I was always distracted by it. After his comment, the idea of using an addictive glass slab on a regular basis disgusted me. I went for a period of time without a phone at all, making calls from my laptop using my Google Voice number and letting my contacts know I had broken my phone and was working on a replacement.
I decided to purchase a Sunbeam F1 Pro Maple (the variant with navigation, weather, and a hotspot), and so far I am extremely happy with it. Here's a summary of my experience:

  1. At first I would still pick up the phone to see "what's new" out of habit, but with only calls, SMS/MMS and functional tools on the device, I now only pick it up when I need one of its functions. My phone usage is now only minutes a day.
  2. The phone is plastic but feels sturdy, with a good hinge and a touchscreen that was better than I had expected. I can navigate with the touchscreen or the keypad. The OS (Basic OS - based on Android) and apps are optimized for the keypad, and I've found that the keypad is better for some operations, and the touchscreen for others. I've not used the phone enough to have settled into a consistent way of doing things, but I frequently navigate the touchscreen with my right hand, and the keypad with my left. The phone interface is snappy in its responses.
  3. Some of the phone's features live behind a paywall. I got a 30-day free trial of the "premium" features, including an excellent voice to text engine (I miss it), hourly weather forecasts (didn't need them), and search/POI features in navigation (didn't try them out before the trial period ended). I'm on the fence about subscribing, but the cost is $3.50 per month, which isn't bad. This company does not make money by collecting and selling your personal data, so they need to get revenue somewhere.
  4. Typing - the QWERTY touchscreen keyboard isn't bad, but it's a small screen so sometimes hard to hit the right letters. There is a predictive engine which doesn't autocorrect or detect typos, but sometimes autofills. The keypad entry with the T9 dictionary is excellent, and I'm trying to relearn it. Voice to text was also excellent, but needs a premium subscription.
  5. WhatsApp - the phone does not have it, but I wanted to keep it since much of my community uses it. On my laptop (running Pop OS Linux), I installed Waydroid and the WhatsApp apk, and signed up with my phone number. It sent a text to my Sunbeam phone with a verification code, which I entered into the app on the laptop, and my account synced up. The WhatsApp interface is clunky in WayDroid (designed for a touchscreen phone), so I use WhatsApp Web in my laptop's browser. Having WhatsApp only on the laptop has cut way down on my usage while still letting me interact with my most important groups and contacts. One doesn't need Linux to do this. WhatsApp can be installed on a Chromebook directly from the Google Play store, and on Windows using WSA or other emulators.
  6. Podcasts - I now download podcasts on my laptop, transfer them to the phone, and play them in the music player. The music player is good, but not designed for podcasts, so no skip forward/backwards 30 seconds feature, and playback position is not saved if you switch to a different podcast or music file. It's not a perfect solution, but gets the job done.
Overall I am extremely happy with the purchase.

2024.05.06 07:43 r_eamon Moto 50 ultra / Pro

Hola,
I'm going to start this by acknowledging there are a lot of disgruntled Motorola users, So I'm just looking for genuine feedback.
My first proper smart phone was hr motolr droid 2, and then followed up by the Razr, I have such a soft spot for Motorola and probably am a bit ingnorant because I like them.
Apart from slow updates / patches, how have their phones actually been? I'm a on/off pixel user and currently have the 6 pro, which to be fair was apparently plagued with issues, but mine as always been fine.
The think the new edge 50 line up is genuinely very attractive and I like the vegan leather look too.

2024.05.05 13:09 j_smith2278 Help Deciding On A Phone

Hello - I need some advice on choosing a new phone.
I currently have a OnePlus 8T (256GB, 12GB RAM) - it's performance is fine for what I do mostly, with only slight slowdown moving between apps. But the battery is getting worn, and I've always kind of not liked the teal color. I've had it for roughly 2.5 years. The main thing I dislike is the display - it's not very readable outside.
I want to have either LineageOS or crDroid installed, with microG to reduce Google usage (I still unfortunately need microG for a few apps, namely two banking apps and Microsoft Authenticator for work).
I've narrowed my search to two devices: The OnePlus 11 5G and the Pixel 8 Pro.
The OnePlus 11 I can get for around ~$500 as an open box, with 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM. Unfortunately the display is curved, which I'd prefer a flat panel but I can live with the curve. I am choosing this one because the 12 does not have custom ROMs yet, as well as being cheaper. As I understand it, the OnePlus 11 should have a slighly better brightness than the 8T.
The Pixel 8 Pro would be $860 for 256GB brand new, and is obviously more widely supported by ROM developers, as well as being supported by Google officially for 7 years (supposedly). But I have concerns with network issues and performance.
I previously had a Pixel 6 Pro, and had the network issues that were common-but-uncommon with that phone - for two days I got no text messages or calls, even though I had service. I fixed it by simply restarting the phone, but I only knew to do that I saw someone in person who had texted me - this makes me worried when people talk about 'network issues'. I also don't want a downgrade in performance compared to my 8T - I know I see people claiming the performance is not as good, but it's hard to tell if they mean not good next to the S23 Ultra with overkill-for-me specs, or if it really is equivalent to my OnePlus 8T.
I want this phone to last 2-3 years, maybe more (as far as getting new versions of Android via LineageOS or crDroid). I live in the US and use T-Mobile (and will for the foreseeable future).
Which should I get?

2024.05.05 04:53 Potential-Design3208 1934 North American Federation Presidential Election

1934 North American Federation Presidential Election
(The backstory of this alternate history is simply that the British won the American Revolution but still ultimately lost the colonies due to another revolution led by Andrew Jackson in 1812 following Britain's defeat to a reformed Bourbon France. Also, technology is a somewhat steampunkish and more advanced than it was in our timeline)
The year is 1934 and the American Federation (The AF) has been consumed by the Great Crash for the past 6 years. Support for the traditional duopoly of the Conservative "Constitutional Democrats" and the populist "New Progressives" is at an all-time low, with the administrations of the progressive Burton Wheeler and the incumbent Democrat Henry Ford failing to end the crisis and bring jobs and economic security to millions of unemployed citizens. Many are beginning to look to alternative political parties with hope that maybe one of them can end the great economic downturn and bring stability back to the country. Though it is the biggest issue of the day, the Crash that resulted from the collapse of the London Stock Market of 1928 is not the only political issue being discussed during the election cycle.
Foreign policy is another major issue in hand. In Europe, fears of a Second cataclysmic Great War are increasing as the revanchist government of Joseph Darnand seized power in France and has made an alliance with the National Syndicalist Leagues in Spain and has funded Italian nationalists in their fight against the pro-German and British backed Savoyard Italian Kingdom. Tension remains high between The American Federation and the British Empire ever since the end of the 2nd Anglo American War back in 1917. Paranoia has risen amongst many American nationalists that Britain might be funding insurgents and crime syndicates in New England and Michigan with the goal of further destabilizing those states for an eventual retaking of them in the near future, but these are only rumors however and little to no concrete evidence has surfaced to prove the validity of such claims.
The legality of alcohol and the narrow passing of "Prohibition" has also become a major issue for the candidates. In 1931, the Constitutional Democrats passed the amendment to prohibit the production and sale of alcohol within the Federation. This was due to the believe that alcohol made people lazy and prevented men from seeking work during the economic crisis. Despite early support, after less than 3 years since its official ratification, Prohibition has become widely despised. Alcoholism has risen to new massive heights in urban areas and crime as become rampant, as criminals have started mass operations to sell booze illegally. Bloody gang wars have erupted in cities like Chicago, New York City, Philidelphia, and Harrisonville, further destabilizing the country.
Finally, corruption is also facing heavy coverage by political outlets and the media, on part due to the recent "Auto-Ring Scandal" of 1932, where a group of business leaders connected to automotive and robotic companies attempted to form united Trust that dominated the increasingly popular robotics market by bribing local and national politicians into turning a blind eye on their activities. The ring was uncovered when Federal investigators charged numerous members of President Ford's own motor company for funding several ring leaders with the goal of buying automated workers at a cheaper price to save costs on wages. The scandal damaged Ford's reputation amongst working class voters in the Iron Belt, who believed Ford had sold them out in favor of cheaper, more obedient work droids. This, as well as Ford signing the Hartwell-Reed Tariff, going against his own party, caused many to suspect that Ford was only seeking to enrich himself and keep his company standing instead of truly caring for the country in its most desperate hour.
With these issues persistent on voters' minds, many candidates have risen to prominence claiming that only they can solve these issues and bring the Federation back on track as a major player in the American hemisphere. Most commentators agree though that the following are the most likely to either win the popular vote and thus the election or gain enough traction to become major contenders for the following election in 1938.

Congressman from 5th District of Long Island, Norman Thomas
Norman M. Thomas (IRP):
  • Party: Industrial Republican Party
  • Foreign Policy: Isolationist
  • Tariffs: In Favour
  • Prohibition: Against
  • Crime and Corruption: Tough On
  • Civil Rights: Progressive
Norman Thomas is a presbyterian minister and incumbent congressman from the state of Long Island. Thomas has made a name for himself for promoting what he calls "Industrial Republicanism", which calls for unheard of before government intervention on the economy with the goal of distributing wealth into the hands of those unemployed and in poverty and to seize the means of production from wealthy captains of industry and back to the hands of laborers and Labor Unions. Many have accused Thomas of authoritarianism, with conservatives and moderates calling him a "radical Jacobin". Others have also called Thomas a "Neo-luddite" as well for his opposition to automated robots, used to replaced workers in factories, which has led to his introduction of bills that would restrict the sell and building of these such robots into the market.

Lawyer, former Attorney General and current Governor of Minnesota, Floyd Olson
Floyd B. Olson (NP):
  • Party: New Progressive Party
  • Foreign policy: Pan-Americanist
  • Tariffs: Against
  • Prohibition: Against
  • Crime: Tough on
  • Civil Rights: Progressive
The Progressive Party, which had dominated politics ever since Theordore Roosevelt's revolutionary victory in 1910, has quickly lost much of its support amongst both working class voters, for their failure in preventing the crash when they were in office, and amongst farmers for their support of the Hartwell-Reed Tariff. Since George Norris' landslide defeat to Henry Ford in 1930, the Progressives have been divided over what course the party should head in. At the national New Progressive Convention of 1934, the party united under famed Minesota Governor Floyd "Skipper" Olson. Olson's policies of subsidizing labor and bailing out banks in his state has helped it overcome many of The Great Crash's worst hurdles. Olson is seeking to emulate his successful policies that he passed in his home state to the national level, not just over economics but for civil rights as well. Olson became famous on the national stage back in 1927 during his time as a lawyer for defending the St. Paul Thirteen during the infamous murder trial. As Governor, Olson cracked down ruthlessly on the white supremacist "Black Spirits" and imposed a multi hundred-dollar penalty on lynching perpetrators. Not only does Olson need to overcome his party's increasing unpopularity amongst the average voter but overcome private matters over his physical health as well, but "Skipper" assures to those closest to him that he will campaign with the same vigor and ruthless energy that carried The Bull Moose to victory many years ago and overcome his health issues.

Former Congressman, Current Governor of Upper New York, Alfred Smith
Alfred E. Smith (CD):
  • Party: Constitutional Democratic Party (Northern faction)
  • Foreign Policy: Pan-Americanist
  • Tariffs: Against
  • Prohibition: Opposed
  • Crime: Tough on
  • Civil Rights: Moderate
Alot has happened in four years, all mostly negative for the Constitutional Democrats. Inability to end the economic depression, deadlock in the House of Delegates, and accusations of corruption have destroyed both Ford's and the party's reputation in the upcoming election. Henry Ford has decided not to run for reelection, leaving the door open for a wide number of candidates to fill in his shoes. Alfred "Al" Smith, governor of Lower New York may have won the nomination after the 31st ballot, but he has lost on the peace, as he has seen whatever remaining support for the CDs disintegrate due to anti-Catholic bias and accusations of corruption from back when he was governor. Despite these setbacks, Smith has campaigned hard on implementing austerity measures and ending the Hartwell-Reed Tariff, seeking free trade with countries like Britain and Germany, and pass a bill to reverse Prohibition.

Lawyer, Governor of Louisine, Huey P. Long
Huey Pierce Long (PUP):
  • Party: Popular United Party (endorsed by the CDs southern faction)
  • Foreign Policy: Isolationist
  • Tariffs: Moderate
  • Prohibition: For
  • Crime: Tough on
  • Civil Rights: Moderate
Harry Pierce Long, nicknamed "The Basilisk" has become a household name ever since his 1932 speech at the Constitutional Democratic Convention, where he called for "sharing our wealth" amongst the most unfortunate and calling for the creation of new government agencies to combat the Great Crash, such as Department of Labor to regulate and prevent exploitation of workers and a Department of Education to provide training for workers to man newly bought robots and machines in factories. Long has become Henry Ford's greatest opponent. Lashing out against his economic Conservatism and for his corruption. Long, alongside his running mate Thomas Townsend, have promoted bills to create a "Social Security Net" to provide health and financial benefits to laborers, as well as having dug out the long dead "National Health Act" that failed to pass during the Roosevelt Administration, which called for the creation of a government funded national health service. Though not explicitly in favor of civil rights, Huey Long has made comments implying his disdain of the poll tax and has called for his distribution of wealth to "land on the hands of all Americans indiscriminately, no matter their wealth or race. For Every Man will become a King! Yet no one will wear a crown!".

War Veteran, Author, and Screen Director, William D. Pelley
William D. Pelley (NLM):
  • Party: National Legionnaire Movement
  • Foreign Policy: Isolationist
  • Tariffs: Moderate
  • Prohibition: In Favour
  • Crime: Tough on
  • Civil Rights: Reactionary
Most have been hit hard by the Great Crash and many believe that none of the traditional parties capable of ending the crisis. While seen by many as saviors, some see the candidacies of Long and Thomas as threats to American values and Pious Protestant Christianity. William Dudley Pelley has taken advantage of the fears of this fringe minority and has promoted the idea that the country's faults are to be blamed on "poisonous and seditious elements". Pelley has become infamous across the country for his railing against "Judeo-Capitalist values" which he claims have poisoned American morals. He also stands in explicit favor of Davis and Bilbo Laws and has called for the end of "the satanist automation" that has destroyed the American worker's dignity and wages. Pelley and his "National Legionnaire Movement" do not have much of a chance in winning the election, but Pelley and his supporters hope to drive enough people to vote for his candidacy to make a statement and perhaps have a better standing in the future 1938 election. Assuming of course, that Americans are not currently desperate, nor crazy, enough to take a gamble on such a radical alternative to the status quo.
Whoever wins this coming election will be faced with a near unsurmountable mountain ahead of them. With an ongoing economic Depression, increased crime and violence, and uttermost lack of faith on the current system built by past leaders like Jackson, Douglas, and Roosevelt, The American Federation will need to make great sacrifices to both survive the Great Crash and the coming storm of war in Europe and Asia. Whichever solution becomes triumphant, Americans have high hopes for whoever wins to succeed and turn the Federation into, as a wiseman once said, a shining city upon a hill.

2024.05.05 02:34 most_normal_guy am I going insane? (iOS camera features rant)

I recently switched over from Android for the first time (from an S10+ to an iPhone 13 Pro) after a lifetime of using droids of various quality. I mostly switched so that I could finally experience firsthand what makes people so militantly pro-Apple.
While the camera itself is great, I am truly stunned by the number of features I've just lost. Don't get me wrong: I had my complaints about my old phone -- but considering how much of an upgrade this was supposed to be, I can't believe how basic the camera is. Do you guys really not even have a "pro mode"? For neither photo nor video??? I don't think lifelong iPhone users realize how little they are actually getting in their phones for the amount of money they are paying for them.
Here are some features of my S10+ video camera's Pro Mode:
On my iPhone, you get literally none of these. Just exposure and the enigmatic "ProRes" button. You can't even open the camera settings... from the camera? This isn't as big of a deal but since you guys don't have the option to take a photo with a hand gesture, you're left with no choice but to use the timer which only has 3s and 10s settings. As a dark-skinned person, all my photos automatically get way darker once they hit my camera roll with no way to turn it off. Yet I have never, ever heard an iPhone user mention any of this. Is this Stockholm Syndrome, mass gaslighting, or am I losing my mind? 😭
I'm pretty bummed since I was expecting this new phone to at least match my old phone, let alone count as an upgrade, but I guess I'll get used to it. How anyone uses iPhone cameras for "professional" photography/videography is absolutely beyond me.

2024.04.28 02:58 EliCaster Redmi Note 12 4G is a disaster

It has a very good battery and screen for its price, but everything else is a steal. Although 4 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 685 should be enough to run the most basic tasks fluently, the software is so poorly optimized that even my Redmi Note 8 with CrDroid runs much better.
The phone stutter on the interface itself (opening the control panel or the application box, for example), has an immense lag when accessing recent applications using gestures and is absolutely incapable of moving apps at 120 hertz, with very few exceptions.
The applications stored in RAM are worth shooting yourself. Multitasking does not exist on this phone, directly. Light games close immediately when you switch from one app to another and WhatsApp or X do not last more than a minute suspended. You have to always start all apps from 0. Okay, it's 4 GB, but don't mess with me.
On top of that they optimize MIUI/HyperOS terribly badly for this Redmi. They give you a very reduced version with multitude features missed (simplified transitions, absent effects, no transparencies, etc). The Redmi Note 8 Pro has all that, for example, which is also much better phone than this 12 4G.
If you have a Xiaomi mid-range from 4 years ago or know someone who keeps one and have made the mistake of buying a Redmi Note 12 4G, compare the performance of both phones. It is the slowest Redmi since 2019, absurd.
Next time less 120 Hz OLED screen and makes the phone at least works correctly 💢

Happy to take additional photos and answer any questions! Just want to get these moved out. (Please PM me rather than using Reddit's terrible messenger)

2024.04.24 23:42 PreacherFog LineageOS madlads fixed so many things broken in Xiaomi's MIUI / HyperOS

Hello, pals!
I write this post because I am very happy and grateful thanks to you. I already posted in another subreddit about the wonders of LineageOS, but I want to repost it here to show my appretiation.
I'm a user of a Mi Band 6 and a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G phone (ruby), but before that I had a Xiaomi Pocophone X3 Pro phone (vayu), and before that, a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (platina).
On all three phones, I had several problems with MIUI / HyperOS:
  1. MIUI killing background apps no matter what settings I put on it to prevent it.
  2. MIUI killing Accessibility services.
  3. MIUI not able to keep the Mi Band connected.
All this was solved when I flashed LineageOS custom rom on my Redmi Note. And I know because when I flashed HyperOS, the problems returned. I reflashed LineageOS just yesterday, and I feel so relieved to have things working.
I also remember I had crDroid (based on LineageOS) flashed on a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (platina), and those problems were solved too. So I'm pretty sure these are Xiaomi OS-only issues, which you LineageOS developers fixed.
Imagine being an open-source project doing better than a macro-corporation with a worth net of 40 billion USD at making their products work. That's the power of open source. That's the power of LineageOS, LineageOS-based roms and their devs and mantainers.
When I see people complaining in the Play Store about app notifications not working and app developers trying to explain it's not their fault, but Xiaomi's, I feel sorry for both devs and users. I wish more people knew about LineageOS.
You can't imagine how important has been for me (I suffer neurologic disability) to fix those issues. I need notifications and Accesibility service for very basic daily life things.
THANK YOU, LineageOS <3
EDIT: I deleted my off-topic question to keep the thread clean.

2024.04.24 23:15 JingusPizzaBeans Oneplus 7 Pro PD charger issue/bug

As the title says, I have a OnePlus 7 Pro running CrDroid 10.4 (Android 14 and based on LineageOS, that's why I chose to post it here) Whenever I try to charge it with basically any PD capable charger, it goes for about 10 seconds then stops and starts again repeatedly. I know this isn't bad connection on the charging port because I replaced it and this happens with multiple different chargers. What could be causing this?
