2024.05.16 06:12 Independent_Bed9652 Types of Telecommunication Networks

Wide Area Networks (WAN)
Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect devices across expansive geographic regions like cities, states, or countries. They're vital for large organizations, facilitating seamless communication among employees, customers, and suppliers dispersed globally. WANs enable efficient data transmission and reception across diverse branches and locations, ensuring businesses stay interconnected and operational on a large scale, irrespective of geographical boundaries.
Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN)
A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) extends the concept of a Local Area Network (LAN) to cover an entire city. While LAN operates within a single campus or building, MAN spans a broader urban area. Compared to Wide Area Networks (WANs), MANs cover a smaller region. They interconnect multiple LANs, facilitating seamless communication over a single cable or network infrastructure. MANs, along with WANs, LANs, and other networks like Internetworks, Intranets, and Extranets, form the backbone of modern telecommunications, enabling efficient data exchange across various scales and domains.
Local Area Networks (LAN)
Local Area Networks (LANs) link communication devices within a confined physical area, like offices, classrooms, or small manufacturing units. They facilitate connectivity and data sharing among users within an organization, supporting collaboration across departments and workgroups. LANs are essential for efficient communication and resource sharing in various settings, enabling seamless interaction and productivity among interconnected devices and users.

2024.05.16 06:10 Direct-Knee-3384 30 [M4M] United States - Looking for my life partner.

I’m the type of person to value transparency and open communication. It can save a lot of time and energy. I’m looking for someone around my age or younger. I’ll start with sharing a little about my personality and interests and then will go to the more deep and logistical side of things.
Quality time, whether it’s sitting and talking, going for a walk, or watching a movie, is important to me. Also, a simple life with few possessions and obligations is something I’m looking for. So, a small apartment without children would be ideal. I’m not even looking to own a car since walking is cheaper and healthier.
I’m passionate about technology, especially when it’s something that helps society as a whole. I also like spending time with nature.
Physically, although I’ve been called “cute” and “adorable” by some, I’m a big guy and should lose about half my body weight. If you are turned off by a guy who is that large, then you might want to continue your search. In addition, my mental health is poor. I’m seeing a therapist and have been trying my best to improve, but it is certain my mental health will impact our relationship (both positively and negatively).
I’m located in the United States and have a small income.
Although I’m open to moving to another country, it is complicated both due to my low income and various immigration policies. Therefore, it’s best if you are in the United States or have a path to citizenship that doesn’t involve my help. If you’d want me to go to your country, we would need to explore the options available, but it would be a huge logistical and financial challenge.

2024.05.16 06:10 TheTimespirit Qatar: the silent partner of world-wide terrorism.

Qatar has given billions of dollars to universities in the United States, and those universities which received funding reported higher instances of antisemitism.
Weird, huh?
Did you also know funding for pro-Palestinian university groups largely responsible for the protests and encampments are also funded by Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood?
We don’t talk about it enough.

2024.05.16 06:08 SamuraiPanda3AMP The things I've seen/heard people make about interracial relationships really pisses me off.

Some short context: I'm a 19 year old black girl born and raised in the United States. Since I was raised and lived around predominantly black areas for all of my life, I'll be speaking from a mostly black perspective.
This is a long one, so get ready. Please correct me if I'm wrong about anything! If there are better places to post this in, please let me know! 🙏🏾
So, I've been wanting to talk about this for a long time, but I had no idea where to put this rant.
Even though I'm not mixed race, I still get pissed off at the things I've seen or heard people make about interracial relationships. Let me tell you why.
I really hate the stigma against interracial relationships, particularly ones that involve black people. The whole notion that people need to keep their races "pure", calling people "sell outs", "race traitors", etc. and all of the other terms make me feel sick. The fact that people still have tribalism, in group-out group ways of thinking pisses me off. That kind of mindset is giving stone-age Neanderthal caveman slug brain. Yes, the history of how black people were treated by white people in the US back then was absolutely despicable. However, people are acting like we're still living in those time periods. It’s 2024, not 1853 or something. In more recent years/times, there are people who are trying to push back against the stigmas. The things I've heard people say to justify being against interracial relationships honestly sounds a little bit like segregation to me. 😬
It seems like the most pushback against interracial relationships seems to be from white men and black men based on my observations. Going back to my previous point where I said about the tribalism mindset. The way how these guys think is that the women who date interracially are "one less woman for them to date, sleep with, and/or impregnate to have same race children". Disgusting, I know. 🤢 Women hold similar viewpoints, but I don’t think it's to the same extent as men. Also, because cis hetero white men are the most privileged group of people on the planet, when they date interracially, they're viewed as conquering and keeping their power. Whenever black men date interracially, they're also viewed as conquering (because they're men in a patriarchal society), but they're also viewed as wanting to keep marginalized women (black women) in a lower tier.
A few weeks ago, I was talking to my mom about interracial relationships and I told her that people who disapprove of them sound similar to segregation. My mom said that my logic is commendable, but she disapproves of interracial relationships and she supports segregation because it makes black people have things that can help us support ourselves without white people having any power over us. I see where she’s coming from, but there are flaws in her logic. We live in a white supremacy. If we want even an ounce of traction for ourselves, we don’t really have much of a choice but to do business with white people, since they’re the ones who created this system and forced everybody to live under it. Besides, it’s not like black people really had a choice but to make spaces for ourselves since white people were adamant on shutting us out, harassing us, and being racist. Nowadays, we can have both; spaces for black people that support black people and we can do that without the dehumanizing aspects of segregation.
If there is something that infringes on basic human rights, then I'm gonna have a problem with it and most likely not be willing to support it.
There’s more I can talk about, but I don’t want to make this post too long. (Or risk making myself seem unhinged... if I haven't already... 😭🏃🏾‍♀️)
Obviously, there’s always gonna be people who are bigoted, uneducated assholes. However, I believe there is just a shred of hope for humanity, judging by the amount of non-black people who were at the protests back in 2020 and the amount of people who support the Cease Fire. (The ones who are genuine about it.)
Let me know what your thoughts are.

2024.05.16 06:07 Tortoise0042 M/32/USA - looking for a close friend!!

Hello there! Do you love pop punk, legos, breweries, or trying new food?
I’m a 32 year old guy, located on the east coast of the United States, and I’m looking for a friend to talk to daily about life, milestones, the positives and the negatives, exchange recipes and food recommendations, music, drinks, travel stories, selfies, and everything that comes between all of this.
A bit about me: I love checking out breweries with my dogs, trying new food, Lego, pop punk, and going to concerts and live sports. Growing up I had pet frogs (like a lot of them). I love reading longform articles before bed. Hogwarts is home. Traveling is my favorite thing, and I love exploring new states and countries as often as I can! Up next for me: Austria, Hungary, Slovakia! recently visited: Denmark, Norway, France, Canada, Italy, Iceland, Puerto Rico, Belgium, Portugal, & Spain.
I don’t know how to ride a bike.
Can’t wait to get to know you!!

2024.05.16 06:05 BlueJayWC What happened in Italy between the end of the Italian wars and the War of Spanish Succession?

It's my understanding that the Italian Wars, which saw countless different states with countless motives slug it out in Italy, ended in a period of relative peace and tranquility for Italy. While Italy was not independent or united (which is what some Italian war leaders, like Pope Julius, wanted), and in fact was under foreign domination and badly devastated, it was no longer a battleground between the various states of Europe because Spain had an uncontested hegemony over the region, from Naples to Milan.
War would return to Italy during the War of Spanish Succession, in which Spain lost their Italian holdings to their former allies, the Holy Roman Emperors. And then Italy became a principal battleground of the Napoleonic wars.
So, if anyone could be so kind, what's a brief overview of this period then? Was it really peaceful and prosperous? Did the Italians hate their Spanish overlords?

Crucial MX500 2TB SSD (SATA) Sealed BNIB July 2022 $150
Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 128GB Sealed BNIB (in the photos the adhesive in the seals at the sides of the box appears to have deteriorated over time, but they are intact and the box has never been opened) November 2021 $215
2* Oculus Go 32GB Sealed BNIB December 2018 $150 ea
Atomos Ninja V (recording monitor for digital cameras), includes 2 unused PowerExtra NP-F970 batteries and SmallRIG 2905 cold shoe mount Sealed BNIB (batteries and SmallRig mount were removed from box to display for photos but have never been used) July 2022 $425
Panasonic Lumix GH5 (mk1) mirrorless MFT/m43 camera plus Lumix 25mm F/1.7 mint, virtually unused; less than 50 shutter actuations (I can’t figure out how to get the shutter count, but I’ve only got 31 photos on the SD card), never been outside, never mounted to tripod; includes original box and papers, cables, charger, unused strap, etc November 2020 $750
Audeze LCD-2 Rev.1, includes original wooden/satin box, wood care oil, hex key and replacement arm parts, and two cables (I do not know what the cables are, but they are functional) Fair-Good (purchased from Head-Fi Classifieds in Nov 2011, I believe I’m the third owner. They’ve probably had less than 50hrs of use since I’ve owned them and they’ve been stored in their box in my closet for the past 5 years [confirmed working and still sounding amazing on May 15th]. Previous owner said he’d used them less than 25 hours and that the owner before him had used them “moderately,” but I think these only released in 2011 so it can’t have been that much. The leather cushions could use some TLC or replacement, but I’ve seen some claims that this is the best sounding LCD-2 ever produced; box has split in the bottom but so far it seems structurally sound) November 2011 $450
Apple AirPods Max in blue; AppleCare+ until January 2025; includes original box and papers and unused cable excellent-mint (probably less than 30hrs of use) October 2022 $400
Bundles:
Atomos Ninja V and MX500 per above per above $550
GH5 & Atomos (NO MX500) per above per above $1100
GH5 & Atomos & MX500 per above per above $1200
Prices include shipping. I accept Paypal. For the items that are factory sealed, I make no promises or claims about warranties—the HDDs and SSD are still within the original manufacturer warranty period and they have never been registered, but I don’t know whether you’d have any luck getting them registered and covered. The WD disks were both purchased direct from WD while the Crucial MX500 was purchased from Amazon. The other items are generally beyond their original manufacturer warranty (with notable exception of AirPods Max). It is possible that the batteries in the Meta Quest 2 or Oculus Go units, may have deteriorated over time, and I make no promises about the state of their batteries, only that the boxes have never been opened and the items never used.

2024.05.16 06:03 Nicolecustoms Would I be the Asshole if I didn't shake my administrator's hand as I walk the stage during graduation?

I'm an 18 F, and I'm graduating high school. In my school, students have admins based on the first letter of our last names. I and some other students have never liked my admin. Throughout my junior and senior years, I was a part of the sciences Olympia, and I love it. Science Olympia is where each school has a team and compete against different schools in different events. Like code busting, scrambler, bridge, tower, and more. The teams with enough points/ 1, 2, and 3 places went to State. Last year, we went to State, and we were hoping to go to State this year. A week before we were going to regionals, I had a terrible flu and couldn't go to school for a week. And I had already gotten off the D and F list. (The D and F list is when you have a certain amount of D's and 2 F's and you can'tdo any school events until you grt your grades up.) Well I have gotten one of my F's up and was feeling a bit better on Friday and went to school excited to go to regions on Saturday. After school, when I was home I had gotten a call from my science teacher who helped run the science Olympia at my school to help tell me that I was on the D and F list again. Confused, I looked at my grades online, and I had gotten an F in this one class for mainly not being there. I couldn't help it since I was sick at home with the FLU! My science teacher told my admin about that, but she didn’t allow me to go on Saturday because I'm on the list I can't go even though my scince teacher was vouching for me saying that i was sick with the FLU. In the class I'm failing, the teacher for the class I'm in is failing me and putting in zeros for the assignments that I had missed for being sick with the FLU. Well, I couldn't go and I was devastated because i was looking forward on doing it and studyed a lot. Me and my mom and I had talked with the principal and agreed that what my admin did wasn't right. Present time my admin is still the same as she was even though she allows people being bullied and being a bitch to me and other people. I'm thinking of not shaking her hand as I walk the stage during graduation. What would you guys think? Would I be the Asshole for doing that?

2024.05.16 05:49 zantie Disease Activity - [May 15, 2024]

Washington State's Respiratory Illness Dashboard for all official numbers and visualizations. See bottom of post for links to all data sources.

Note As of May 1st hospitals are not required to report hospitalizations due to COVID-19, RSV, or Flu. This means everything presented here is underrepresented.

In this post I provide alternative visualizations for the overall weekly disease activity and reporting on weekly confirmed case positives, emergency department (ED) visits, new hospitalizations, total inpatients/occupied hospital beds, and confirmed deaths. Trends reported here are based on % change of total weekly counts and not "Percent of" which is how the state reports many of these categories.
I'll use the category of Hospital Admissions (Hosp. ADM) due to COVID reported on WADoH dashboard as an example of how our summaries compare:
Summary location Prior Week's incomplete Hosp. ADM This Week's incomplete Hosp. ADM Weekly Change
WADoH 0.7% of all Hosp. ADM coded COVID 0.7 % of all Hosp. ADM coded COVID 0 %
here 83 Hosp. ADM coded COVID 70 Hosp. ADM coded COVID ↓ 15.7 %
Both sets of numbers are true, it's just a different way of looking at it.
Note As of May 1st hospitals are not required to report hospitalizations due to COVID-19, RSV, or Flu. This means everything presented here after that date is underrepresented (even more-so than usual with the reduction of free PCRs and clinical testing). As far as I can tell, deaths are still reported. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know!
I have managed to find the % of hospitals reporting each week and will present it here to help provide context. Unfortunately this data updates on Fridays so it will always show a week behind.

Notes on Data and Limitations:
As of May 1st hospitals are not required to report hospitalizations due to COVID-19, RSV, or Flu. This means everything presented here is underrepresented. * In this post I provide alternative visualizations for the overall weekly disease activity and reporting on weekly confirmed case positives, emergency department (ED) visits, new hospitalizations, total inpatients/occupied hospital beds, and confirmed deaths. Additionally I provide changes in COVID-19 activity due to backfill. * Trends are calculated based on the % change in the totals for the most recent week of data compared to the second most recent. This differs from the state's trend % as they are doing a % change of a percent. * Columns with a bright bar are the new additions for this week's report. Darker bars are counts from previously published reports. An empty/outlined column is where previously reported numbers have been removed with this week's update. * These graphs were put together by using a multitude of resources spanning from the Washington State Department of Health all the way to the CDC and National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). All of these state and federal reports use the standardized Sunday-Saturday 7-day definition. * All numbers except for cases and deaths are a reflection of 'healthcare encounters' and not representative of individuals nor of residence. Total weekly counts are extrapolated by applying the state's weekly hospitalizations to the NHSN's reporting of hospitalizations, bed occupancy, and icu occupancy due to all causes. Beds occupied as a weekly average are multiplied by 7 days to get to total beds occupied. * A COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV death is only counted by the state if data is complete (cause of death is attributed to the disease *and** there is an associated laboratory positive test with no period of complete recovery between illness and death). The only exception is that RSV does not need a test, only that it is indicated as cause on the death certificate.

2024.05.16 05:45 FatherKarrl [DEVELOPMENT] Miniaturization

As normal, the Defense Ordinance Subcommission was on the regular hunt for researchers and new technologies to present to the State Defense Commission. The agency had become expert in asset acquisition, often giving exorbitant deals that couldn't be refused. When deals couldn't be made, the agency was not above subterfuge and espionage. However, DOSC very much preferred to make deals, usually providing a better life for the families of those it seeks to assimilate into its machine of the eccentric.
In recent years, DOSC had engaged in a massive radio campaign, bombarding the airwaves when and where it could with advertisements highlighting the cheery and exciting surface of the organization. The campaign had been a resounding success and DOSC had hired on dozens of new researchers of various backgrounds and talent levels.
These new employees had come from across the continent and from all walks of life. Most interesting among them were those who now made up DOSC's Computerized Ordinance Board (DOSC-COB). The chief among these researchers were the five affectionately called the Circuit Breakers; Walter Houser Brattain, Gordon Moore, John Bardeen, Mohamed M. Atalla, and Dawon Kahng. All of these men had come from all corners of the former United States. Walter was from Spokane, Gordon from San Jose, John from Illinois, Mohamed from New Jersey, Egypt originally, and Dawon from Ohio, Korea originally.
Between them was the Compact's collective understanding of cutting edge electronic research. Not but a few years ago, Dawon and Mohamed had developed the MOSFET (metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor), the Garden of Eden of electronic components as far as DOSC was concerned, providing a higherspeed, less power intensive, and less hot transistor for more advanced circuits.
This early research and development by Dawon and Mohamed had been joined by the knowledge of the other three, Walter and John having attempted a similar feat way back in the 30s before being thwarted by the US Patent Office thanks to Julius Lilienfeld's work in the mid 20s. The Austrian Jew had stopped either man from continuing further, William Shockley's hold on the industry collapsing not long after as is firm's prospects dried up. However, now both John and Walter had a second chance. Fleeing violent application of black nationalism and seeking a life where he wasn't constantly insulted with the title "Yakubite", John had left Illinois to meet with his former associate, Walter, in Spokane where both were approached by DOSC with prospective job offers.
Much to both gentlemen's surprise, DOSC had also acquired Gordon Moore from San Jose, California. Gordon had played a direct hand in William Shockley's fall from grace, being a member of the "Traitorous Eight" as Shockley would make sure to remind the media. Free of Shockley's authorian approach to teamwork, Gordon was quickly approached by a DOSC agent while enjoying a meal in a San Jose diner. Despite Sherman Fairchild's, the benefactor who encouraged the Traitorious Eight to rebel against Shockley, DOSC's offer couldn't be resisted, securing Gordon, his wife, and his two sons immediate citizenship within the Compact and an all expense paid life in the Great North. DOSC's investment would be quickly returned on, as Gordon became the pièce de résistance to DOSC-COB's efforts.
Utilizing the prior work and minds of Dawon and Mohamed, Gordon became a wizard of the circuit board. Recognizing and expertly applying the massive advantages of the MOSFET transistor, Gordon saw the inevitability of MOSFET's take over in regards to its impressive scalability and unparalleled low power consumption.
It would be from here that Gordon and the rest of the Circuit Breakers would begin not work very closely with Tia Baisho, chief engineer of DOSC's Kinentic Movement Board (DOSC-KMB), per her own request and much to DOSC's excitement. Tia had the type of eccentric idea that DOSC drooled over, that being a radical plan to drastically reduce the strain on combat manpower, opening the military up to greater support personnel potentials. However, to do so, she would need a new field of electronic components and ability that the world has yet to see.

2024.05.16 05:44 10pastnoon Need advice on rental process

I applied for a rental unit 4 days ago and was approved by the leasing agent. I had a tour of the place 2 days ago and was told the deposit and lease would be sent soon. I was informed of the payment terms (monthly rent, prorate, additional fees) later that day which stated a move in day for 5/20.
It is 5/15 with the weekend coming up and still no lease or deposit request. The unit is still listed on the site. I’ve been in contact with the agent the past 2 days who said it will be coming soon.
My concern is the timeframe until move in. I assume I’d need time to review the lease, sign, have it countersigned and have the deposit sent/accepted within the next few days. With the weekend coming up I don’t see this happening.
Does it seem like the landlord will pull the unit or am I just being overly concerned? Thanks in advance.
