2024.06.09 15:44 igrikxd Another one WSPR beacon?

Another one WSPR beacon?
Have you seen many different WSPR beacon projects? I don't know, but I want to share with you my small project, which is mainly aimed at beginner radio enthusiasts :)
Who is this project for?
For those who, like me, are interested in radio communication, enjoy building things with their own hands, and have long wanted to get acquainted with WSPR technology.
What is WSPR?
WSPR (Weak Signal Propagation Reporter) is a digital radio communication protocol developed to study the propagation of weak signals over long distances, allowing radio amateurs to observe in real-time how far radio signals from a specific transmitter can travel. Radio exchanges use short messages consisting of encoded:
  1. Amateur radio call sign
  2. The first 4 characters of your QTH locator (calculated based on geographic location)
  3. Transmitting station power in dBm
Example of signal propagation from the station with the call sign N0CALL (https://www.wsprnet.org/)
WSPR messages are transmitted on various frequency bands (the choice of which affects signal propagation distance: some bands have long-range propagation only at certain times of the day, while others work only within line-of-sight) and are automatically decoded by receiving stations located around the world.
How did my project start?
My interest in WSPR technology began with decoding WSPR messages via a WebSDR receiver, but I had no experience in transmission and wanted to try it. It so happened that I had ready-made SI5351 and NodeMCU modules left over from previous projects. So, I decided to connect them together and see how WSPR message transmission works in reality.
A simple WSPR beacon from a ready-made NodeMCU and SI5351 module
And how does it work?
It works, but poorly! WSPR messages are successfully transmitted and decoded using a locally positioned SDR receiver, but I really dislike breadboard connections when using ready-made modules. As expected, I encountered issues: a poor contact, a slight nudge, and something falls off. Using such a tangle of modules as a finished device is completely impractical.
Therefore, I decided to make a printed circuit board and pack it into some kind of case. As a bonus, I decided to add time synchronization for transmission (WSPR messages are transmitted every even minute: 00:00, 00:02, 00:04, ...) and calculation of the QTH locator based on current data from a GPS module.
3D render of the device's PCB
I rewrote the code and designed the board. Instead of the EPS8266, I decided to use the Atmega328 (there was another my project with a ready-made PCB design based on Atmega328 + SI5351 on EasyEDA), added a GPS module and a simple amplifier with a single BS170 field-effect transistor. To eliminate the frequency drift effect of the SI5351, I installed a TCXO instead of the quartz resonator used in ready-made modules.
Printed circuit board with components soldered
After analyzing similar projects, where power is supplied using a MicroUSB connector, which is unstable under mechanical stress, I decided to use USB-B. I added a self-resetting 600 mA fuse to limit current consumption in case of unforeseen situations. And to make it look nice, I adapted the board for installation in a ready-made aluminum case measuring 80x50x20 mm.
Finished device
To make it easy for any beginner radio enthusiast to assemble a working device, I additionally wrote an assembly and flashing guide and included a list of necessary components for building the device. So if you want to make your own WSPR beacon, you can find all the information in the project's GitHub repository.
Future plans?
I would like to completely eliminate the manual frequency calibration procedure for the SI5351 and use the 1PPS signal from the GPS module for automatic calibration. The PCB is designed for this, and I just need to write the code.
The amplifier with a single transistor, while simple in design, can be difficult for beginner radio enthusiasts to set up, so I plan to make another version of the PCB with a buffer amplifier that requires absolutely no tuning.
Why limit to WSPR if you can add other modes of operation? I plan to add firmware to allow the device to operate in CW and FT8 modes.
Well, if you've read this far, I would be happy to hear your suggestions for improving the project and any potential Pull Requests :)

2024.06.09 15:20 Brief-Copy9267 Smooth ZATCA Phase 2 E-Invoicing Compliance: Success in Saudi's Beauty & Wellness Industry

In the fast-paced Beauty and Wellness market of Saudi Arabia, one company has excelled in adapting to regulatory changes and digital transformation. Based in Riyadh and operating over 200 stores across Riyadh, Jeddah, El Qassim, Yanbu, and Al Khobar, our client has set a benchmark in the health and beauty care, pharmacies, distribution, retail, and lifestyle sectors. With a workforce of over 5,000, they faced the significant challenge of integrating Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) Phase 2 e-invoicing into their operations.

Overcoming Challenges: From Complexity to Compliance

Our client used a dual-application system: an in-house Point of Sale (POS) system for front-office tasks and SAP S/4HANA for back-office functions. SAP PI/PO served as an Enterprise Service Bus to integrate the POS system with SAP and facilitate integration between SAP and external entities like shops and vendors. Being in Wave 3, they faced a strict deadline for ZATCA Phase 2 integration, needing to ensure compliance for nearly 5 million B2C and B2B invoices annually.
Key Challenges:

The Solution: Accqrate's Innovative Approach

Our journey began with demonstrating direct SAP to ZATCA integration using Accqrate's middleware. Although initially inclined towards direct SAP to ZATCA integration, the client ultimately chose Accqrate's solution due to its cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Options Provided:
  1. Direct SAP integration with ZATCA via PI/PO, bypassing middleware.
  2. SAP integration with ZATCA through Accqrate's middleware.
The client evaluated and found Accqrate's SAP E-invoicing package to be significantly more cost-effective, at just 1/100th the cost of the direct integration option.
Proof of Concept:
Accqrate offered a free proof of concept with the ZATCA Sandbox to prove the ease of integration. This risk-free demonstration convinced the client, and within a week, we showcased the integration by connecting with the client's SAP Sandbox.
Our Approach:

Value Proposition: Beyond Compliance to Transformation

The implementation of Accqrate's solution revolutionized the client's e-invoicing capabilities, ensuring compliance and delivering significant operational improvements.
Key Benefits:

Conclusion: Setting a New Standard in E-Invoicing

This case study demonstrates how innovative solutions can address complex regulatory requirements while enhancing operational efficiency. Our client's successful integration of ZATCA e-invoicing Phase 2 sets a benchmark for the Beauty and Wellness Care industry in Saudi Arabia, showcasing the potential of digital transformation to drive business growth and compliance.

2024.06.09 15:11 mydude_467 Found a reasonably priced JA22

I found a reasonably priced JA22 for roughly around 5000-6000 USD. The car overall looks very clean no rust or anything, but the catch is the car originally was an automatic transmission but converted it to a manual transmission, would that affect anything with gear ratios? Will it affect milage? What else should I look out for if ever I do end up getting it? Is it even worth getting at this point?
Note: I live in the Philippines the car is a LHD as well as seeing the market there seems to be available parts here straight from Japan.

2024.06.09 14:33 StepfordMisfit Manual transmission for a new driver? Commentary on Imprezas and teen drivers in general welcome, too.

We've been looking at Subaru Imprezas (2017-21ish, not WRX,) which is the only car she's shown any interest in at all. Found one in our budget with a manual transmission, which got me thinking and reading here. A note about it not being good if you eat in your car got me wondering:
Do you think a teen will be less likely to give in to the texting-while-driving temptation if they have to change gears? When I drove a stick I always kept one hand on the shift knob.
I'd been leaning toward trying to find one with automatic braking and lane departure warning, but it appears those features are only on the ones with CVT.
For context she's more of a rule-follower than most but ADHD. Generally a responsible kid. Most concerned with room to carry large instruments. I'm a little more worried about sleepy driving than texting, but I also put value in being able to drive a stick, esp for a kid who talks about moving to Europe one day. Also like that it would be harder to steal/lend to pushy friends.
Would love y'all's thoughts!

2024.06.09 14:23 Fuzzy-Dragonfruit589 Field of Glory Empires + FoG 2 — they work!

I enjoy strategy games. I grew up with Total Wars (Rome, M2, etc.) and Paradox games (see my CK3 for Deck guide: https://www.reddit.com/SteamDeck/s/8LyT303iGo) and have been looking for similar experiences on the Steam Deck.
Well, here’s a hidden gem for you: Field of Glory: Empires. It’s a turn-based grand strategy game, and feels like a hybrid of EU4 and Rome: Total War. Grand strategy on the map, but you can also play out the battles.
FoGE is entirely playable standalone with its native autobattle simulator. The reason why it’s listed ”Unplayable” on Steam Deck is that the game allows you to export and play your campaign battles manually in the developer’s previous game, Field of Glory 2. FoG2 is a fantastic battle simulator that also perfectly runs OOTB on the Steam Deck.
The catch: by default, the battle export system of FoGE does not work on the Deck. However, a fix exists — and basically no one knows about it since it’s hidden on Slitherine forums. See user AdmiralNaismith’s comment here:
https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=111074
I can confirm that it works, although it does require a bit of tinkering. If you’re not used to Steam Deck tinkering/modding, this may be unintuitive, but if you’ve ever modded a game or edited game files in Desktop mode this isn’t any more difficult. With the above fix I am playing FoGE and exporting battles to FoG2 seamlessly on the Deck. About 4–5h battery life at a solid 45 or even 60 FPS (I prefer 45 for extra battery, since the game is turn-based).
Leg’s hope the devs fix this natively.
A ton of FoG games are currently on sale on Fanatical:
https://www.fanatical.com/en/pick-and-mix/build-your-own-tabletop-wargame-bundle
If you even just get FoGE + DLC and FoG2 (base game only), you’re basically set for hours of fun. You don’t seem to need FoG2 DLC for the FoGE battle exports. But, again, FoG2 is fun on its own and truly a perfect deck game.
The only problem with FoGE is the small text size. It doesn’t slow me down since I have good eyesight, but if that’s an issue you can check out my tip for setting up a better magnifier:
https://www.reddit.com/SteamdeckGames/s/HR0zwgfJDE
Also, both games will require you to use trackpads and set up custom controller layouts. There’s some decent community layouts to help you, and I find this a non-issue.

2024.06.09 14:09 mrmiksu101 Electric start motor.

Hi.
So im wondering is there any way to, without using code (since im terrible at that), use a electric reafront motor to innertia start a car, kinda like Le mans cars.
Ive Been trying for aseccond now, but every Time i use an electric motor it either doesnt let me use manual transmissions (or dct, seq, anything Else than CVT) or it just straight up turns The rpm meter to The electric motor one (17k rpm+).
Is there Any way to Make this work without coding or is code the only way to Make IT work?
Thx.

2024.06.09 13:11 clinkyscales Manual transmission. Reverse lights have a short, likely between the switch and shifter?

I have a 2005 subaru outback with a manual transmission. I know on these cars where the harness goes through the trunk hatch, that this creates a short sometimes but I'm pretty positive that's not the issue.
When the car's in reverse you can jiggle the shifter and that will cause the reverse lights to come on or off. I don't really know too much about what triggers the lights in this case. I know there is a switch for it, but don't really know what triggers the switch, other than it appears to be something inside the transmission based on where the switch is located.
Is there something i could check between the switch and the shifter? Or is the only failure point in this case in the transmission? Where would I need to look to find what is shorting out? I doubt the switch itself is bad since it works depending on how you jiggle the shifter.
Let me know if you need any other info

1991 Toyota Corolla restoration
It does turn over but there’s a rod knock for sure. The whole thing shakes while it’s moving, especially while idling, and it shut off on me a few times when I stopped giving it gas. I know a beginner amount about cars but I want to learn how to fix them up because I love old cars, and I figured this dirt cheap Toyota might be a good place to start since parts are more abundant for these guys than for older or rarer models, and they appear to be relatively DIY friendly from what I’ve seen online. I’m totally okay with it taking time; I get a lot of satisfaction from learning new skills, making things, fixing things etc. I also am aware that it’s going to cost money and that there’s a very strong possibility that it needs a new engine.
My dumb car question is: how cooked and I?

2024.06.09 09:52 WesternReprise Car won't bump start after sitting idle for 2 months

Hi,
I've not driven my car for two months, and I didn't have time (or a socket set lying around) to disconnect the battery. There is no power at all, not even central locking or anything lighting up on the dashboard. I tried bump starting down a hill, which I managed few months ago without a problem, but the engine wouldn't kick in at all.
The battery has shown signs of weakness since I bought it last year: without the engine running and with just the radio and A/C on for a couple of minutes the battery would go flat and would require a jump-start with jumper cables or a bump start - happened to me a couple of times. I can't see a date for how old the battery is, but the indicator up top seems ok (green).
There is no clicking noise or anything on turning the ignition and trying to get the engine to turn over. No signs of life at all. My question is: would jumper leads be likely to work even though bump-starting the engine failed? Or what about replacing the battery? I would guess that the battery isn't the issue, and that it's more likely to be something else... loose connection, or rain/damp getting into the connection etc (car parked outside thought apparently it didn't rain until just a week before I returned, so generally a dry climate).
What else could be the problem? And what could I try myself before calling out a mechanic?
It's a 2006 2.4 Honda CR-V with a manual transmission.
Thanks

2024.06.09 06:27 ancestralhorse Late night post but I'm about to buy a new car VERY soon & would love some feedback from fellow manual enthusiasts. Is the VW Jetta S worth buying?

So as I'm sure you can see from my flair, I do currently drive a 2017 Ford Fiesta ST 6MT. However, it's my ex's car, and since we broke up and I moved out, I'm gonna have to give it back to her permanently in the very near future. (I used to have my own car but it broke down.) So, I need a new car ASAP, and I want it to be a manual for reasons I'm sure I don't have to spell out to the folks in this subreddit, haha.
I just made a similar post in /whatcarshouldIbuy so I'm gonna borrow somewhat from that one, but basically, these were the key features I was looking for in my next car (besides having a manual transmission):
  1. Must be relatively new (<5 years) with about 50k miles or less, so either brand new or lightly used. I've had enough clunkers in my life and I'm over it. I want this next car to last me 10+ years.
  2. Nothing American. I'd prefer German or Japanese cars which have been more reliable in my experience. There have been several ongoing scandals with American car manufacturers cutting corners when it comes to safety standards, using cheap materials, and so on. I know it's gotten better, but even my ex's Fiesta had some nasty issues with cheap plastic on the interior peeling in ugly ways (and don't get me wrong, there are/were some things I loved about that car, but still). I could go on but you get the point.
  3. Must have Apple CarPlay & a backup camera.
  4. Must have at least OK gas mileage.
  5. Must be ~$25k or less. I'm not rich, lol.
  6. While not strictly required, an auto-dimming rearview mirror would be EPIC because I can't stand getting blinded by people's high beams at night. Worst case scenario I can find an aftermarket solution but not having to fuck with that is nice.
So with all of this in mind, I landed on the Volkswagen Jetta S as it's the cheapest car you can still buy with a manual transmission that meets all of these requirements (or at least most, depending on the year it was manufactured) and has GREAT gas mileage (I think it's 29/42 on the latest version!). But I'm basically here to ask for a sanity check. Are there any major concerns with this car that should make me reconsider? One of the things that does concern me (mildly) is that at least some models come with an all-digital dash, which, while cool in theory, worries me because it might be more prone to total failure which would make the car undriveable until it gets fixed since I wouldn't be able to watch my speed. And, with it being a manual, you all know that seeing your RPMs can be beneficial, even if you CAN shift by sound/feel.
The other thing that kinda worries me is that I've heard some mixed things about the overall repair-ability of Volkswagens, but I'm not sure how true (or up to date) these concerns really are.
Bonus question that I didn't put in /whatcarshouldIbuy: if any of you actually DRIVE this car, I'd love to hear what you think about the experience overall, how it shifts, how zippy it is, how it compares to other manuals and so on. Just, you know, I'd love to get more perspective from manual enthusiasts, which I didn't bother to ask in the other post since it's a more general sub.
And also just any other feedback, concerns, etc you all have would be great.
Thanks!

2024.06.09 06:14 DrDynastic I’m buying a Scat Pack!

I’m buying a Scat Pack!
I just closed on a deal to buy a new Scat Pack. Flying out next week to drive it home. As luck would have it, it’s a 600 mile drive, which means I can open it up when I get it home after the break-in period. Boy it’s going to be tough to show restraint on that drive.
Been an interesting ride to get here, and I can’t thank the Challenger Reddit community enough. It started with a post sharing my love for Challengers after renting one for a week to see if it would be a good fit. It was a black SXT and I absolutely loved everything about it. The look. The handling. The V6 was even pretty strong by my standards.
But I had to see what a V8 was like. I found a dealership that had a used Scat on the lot. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. When the salesman started it up, my son and I just looked at each other and smiled. It had just under 20k miles, silver exterior, with a cool sports stripe on the back. Manual transmission.
I was really tempted. I even posted my dilemma here. By and large, most of you rightly told me, “Buy it! You won’t regret it.” It seemed like a good deal, and I really liked the car. But there were a few comments that really stood out. One was the color. There were a few negative comments on that, and I kind of have to agree. I think I would’ve been settling for silver, though I still think it looks great. Others commented about it not being a wide body. And there was one other comment that really hit: “At that price, why not just buy new?” And it got me thinking…
So here we are, after renting the SXT, test driving the Scat Pack, and then a second one (new, automatic transmission). I called a bunch of dealerships in Florida. The inventory was great, and we negotiated a deal I could live with. But I didn’t get the best vibes from the salespeople, and Florida is a long drive home (3k miles).
So I called a dealership one state over, about 8 hours away. They had a car that checked almost every box. Scat Pack. Wide Body. Destroyer Grey. Black Alcantara seats and Harman/Kardon package as a bonus. After a few phone calls back and forth, we agreed on a price. I was floored. I really didn’t expect it to happen.
My son graduates from high school tomorrow. Many of his friends are going on a senior trip to Greece. Instead, my boy and I are flying to Boise to drive this new car home. I think he’s even more excited than I am (he is a HUGE car fan).
Again, I can’t thank this subreddit enough. It’s such a cool community, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. Thank you.

2024.06.09 05:55 ancestralhorse Thinking about buying a new (or slightly used) VW Jetta S 6-speed manual in like 2 weeks. Is this the right decision?

EDIT: Forgot to include some info about financials like my budget and stuff so I added those in.
So, a little background. I've had a few different cars prior to this one but they've mostly always been either hand-me-downs from someone I knew or I bought them for dirt cheap off of Facebook Marketplace or something. My last car broke down a couple of years ago and ever since then I've been driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta ST which is also a 6-speed manual. This is my ex's car, and since we broke up a few months ago and I moved out, I've been able to use it a little bit off and on but I'm going to have to stop soon & give it back to her permanently.
For the financial background, I currently have a part-time job and a more flexible freelance job, I can afford up to about $250/mo and I have about $2500 for a down payment. Max budget is about ~$25k though ideally I'd spend less, and I have no credit. (The VW salesman I've been talking to is quite confident I will be approved for financing with these constraints & they can make all this work; they have some kind of program for first time car buyers with little to no credit.)
Also I live in the Kansas City area if that matters.
With that out of the way, these are the things that I knew would be important to me up-front:
  1. Must be manual. I learned how to drive manual on my ex's Fiesta, and afterwards I realized automatic has become boring to me which is why I want another manual. They're fun to drive and keep my brain occupied in a good way that keeps me more focused on the road (I have ADHD and it's kind of like a stim to me, lol).
  2. Nothing American. I'd prefer German or Japanese cars which have been more reliable in my experience. There have been several ongoing scandals with American car manufacturers cutting corners when it comes to safety standards, using cheap materials, and so on. I know it's gotten better, but even my ex's Fiesta had some nasty issues with cheap plastic on the interior peeling in ugly ways. I could go on but you get the point.
  3. I want something that'll actually last me like 10+ years (I want to buy this car, no lease or anything), so something new-ish like <5 years, maybe 50k miles or less. I've had several crappy hand-me-downs that had various major issues and ugly surprises and I'm tired of it. I don't wanna save a few bucks today just to deal with expensive repairs tomorrow, etc.
  4. Must have Apple CarPlay & a backup camera.
  5. Must have at least OK gas mileage.
And especially in a manual, even though I CAN shift through the gears by sound/feel alone, having a visual confirmation of where my RPMs are at is really beneficial, bordering on crucial.
The other thing that kinda worries me is that I've heard some mixed things about the overall repair-ability of Volkswagens, but I'm not sure how true (or up to date) these concerns really are.
But yeah just in general I'd love to hear any feedback on this decision, feedback on the concerns I specifically brought up, and anything else to consider.

2024.06.09 05:52 Turbulent_Rub1317 Not well versed in operating DCT - 2024 N Line USA

Hey everyone. I recently test drove a new ‘24 Elantra NLine, on two separate occasions, and loved everything about it. The interior, exterior, features, feel, drive and price range all fit for me. But I admit, I’m not well versed in DCT transmission, and definitely don’t know anything about manual. The test drives were each 5-7 minutes long if anything and I don’t think I even noticed the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Am I going to have to become a pro at using/understanding them or will this car operate completely automatic and those may as well not be there? Again, I’m looking at DCT for the first time and am not able to grasp much about it online.
