2024.05.19 09:16 Zestyclose_Heart1166 Crandall’s extreme astroturfing lost them my business

I’m in the market for a new or refurbished high quality home office chair. So I’ve been learning about this market just over the past several days. My current chair is a Nouhaus ErgoFlip that I bought 4 years ago for $200 (because the arm rests flip up) but it’s terrible now and I need to replace it.
After doing some research, it seemed that refurbished is the way to go since the quality is almost as good as new and it’s 1/2-1/3 the price. I’m leaning towards getting the Steelcase Leap V2 as it seems to be the best chair you can get for under $600 as per many reviews.
After some more research, the two main competitors for this type of refurbished chair seemed to be BTOD and Crandall. Between the two, Crandall seemed to be a no brainer as they offer thicker seats than the normal Leap which you would think makes it more comfortable than BTOD. I also saw glowing praise of Crandall on this subreddit and on Amazon. So I was very close to buying a refurbished Leap from the Crandall website and paying extra for the thicker back and seat, for around $600. I even made a post about it here a couple days ago. Subsequently, as I was in the process of making a purchase on the Crandall website, I saw an option to purchase a newer refurbished Leap, but couldn't utiiize it. I called Crandall sales to inquire more, but to my surprise, no one picked up the phone during business hours. That's very unusual for a company sales department not to pick up the phone.
This prompted me to hold off and do a bit more digging. I was disturbed by what I found. It started by seeing the “top critical review” of the Crandall refurbished Leap on their Amazon page (which only displays on a desktop and not my phone):
https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B08PPVCCST/ref=cm_cr_unknown?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews&filterByStar=two_star&pageNumber=1
The 2 star review with 81 "helpful" votes basically calls Crandall a scam because their foam seating is extremely cheap, breaks down quickly, and IS NOT COVERED by their 12 year warranty. I haven’t really seen this highly-upvoted criticism (on Amazon) addressed here.
In fact, as I looked more at this subreddit, it seems Crandall heavily astroturfs this subreddit (and perhaps the Amazon page too) by taking random accounts, temporarily using them to shill for Crandall, and pass themselves off as being disinterested third parties. These accounts then seem to be discarded (barely any subsequent posts after the accounts served their purpose of shilling Crandall in a thread and upvoting other shilling posts). Again, these accounts do not disclose that they are being operated by Crandall employees. In some older threads, the account name says "deleted" for obvious astroturfed posts, so Crandall seems to outright delete their more obvious examples. The owner also appears frequently to present extra legitimacy, which by itself would be fine, but of course as your attention is focused on him, it isn’t apparent that his employees are swarming this sub.
This post noticed the pattern 4 years ago and it certainly hasn’t gotten any better since I've seen this behavior in many threads made after that. It also seems to be an issue people want to tiptoe around for some reason as it's rarely squarely addressed judging from a search:
https://www.reddit.com/OfficeChairs/comments/gpk9bw/is_it_just_me_or_is_crandall_office_chairs_a/
Maybe I’m old fashioned, but these highly aggressive and sneaky tactics really rub me the wrong way. They’ve lost a sale from me. Ironically Crandall employees seem to spend all their time online engaging in these questionable tactics rather than simply answer the phone.
Just from doing my own Google searches I found out about a store called OHR Home Office Solutions that’s based in the NYC and NJ area but ship all over. They seem to do refurbishments of many top chairs, including the Leap, Gesture, and Herman Miller Aeron, at least at Crandall’s quality, and for a decently cheaper price. I plan on visiting either their warehouse sale or showroom to test out the chairs in person and make a purchase there.
When I searched this subreddit for OHR, almost NOTHING came up. That’s really a shame. I dunno if Crandall owns this subreddit or something, but it should be for information, not unmarked advertisements, and I think the worthy alternative of OHR should be discussed more, instead of 50% of posts shilling for Crandall.
That’s my two cents anyway, hope this post helps others.

2024.05.19 07:33 OldManWarhammer FotD - The Seventh Orion War - Part 12 - 1330 Fleet Time

1330 Terran Front Fleet Time
On the Turinika homeworld, the first signs of unrest began to manifest like a wave, The broadcast of the most esteemed Tizikikoonazikiakakiatkata, Taratanti of the roost Kazatalak, openly performing the act of Kavsa had been met with shock. The last Taratanti who had voluntarily performed Kavsa had done so in protest of the treatment of the Kulorn caste, nearly two thousand years prior. It was an ancient rite, one that signified rejection of the greatest shame. Even more shocking than the act itself was the evidence that had followed it. Visuals of species, brought into the Conclave, not as migrant workers as had been believed, but as slaves, was met with an almost immediate attempt at censorship. This attempt failed spectacularly, mostly due to those who had been tasked to censor the information not only refusing to follow the command, but openly declaring that they had been ordered to do so. A situation that was already, as the humans would say, out of hand, spiraled completely out of control. Within only twenty minutes of the ending of Tizikikoonazikiakakiatkata’s broadcast entire cities entered a state of absolute anarchy. Two planetary capitals were stormed and taken by the furious civilian population, demanding the location of those who had been enslaved. The Turinika Armada, which even then was in the middle of a training session meant to prepare the fleet to withstand the Terran Front’s assault, began to cease operations. Within the hour, the entire armada would be recalled to the turnika homeworld. Those who did not take to the streets simply stopped whatever work they were doing and went to their homes to be around their brood. Images of Tizikikoonazikiakakiatkata with his stripped wings spread wide in front of the human fleet commander were on every news fed of the Conclave, as was the sound of his thunderous voice, and the wails of despair from a turinika female that couldn’t be seen. Close ups of the human fleet commander’s face were shown, with analysts remarking on the shock, horror, and sympathy. Since the outbreak of the Seventh Orion War, the female human known as Simmons had been reported to have made several threats towards the turinika, she had quickly become seen as a warmonger, ready to take revenge against the turinika for refusing to go to war and violate their principles of pacifism. Now the images of her lunging forward to stop the violation of Tizikikoonazikiakakiatkata’s plumage, the agonized expression of her face, and the true reason for her threats against the turinika were rapidly reversing her image. On far flung deep core mining stations and agricultural stations, on deep space stations dedicated to material processing, and in other areas hidden from the sight of the normal turinikan population, overseers and taskmasters felt their hearts run cold at the knowledge that very soon, their part to play in the willful enslavement of another species would be known to the wider Conclave. As the data package transmitted alongside the broadcast were fully decompressed and the scale of the Conclave’s government’s involvement was revealed, the entirety of the Conclave itself was teetering on the verge of absolute pandemonium. The image of a member of the kolra species, from the look of it barely a hatchling, quickly was becoming the face of the entire incident. The picture was absolutely damning, and the sight of the image had sent any who saw it instantly into contorting and painful displays of shame. The young kolra was sprawled on it’s stomach, looking to the one taking it’s picture with eyes that had no life in them. It’s shell covered it’s back, and despite the age of the kolra it was already dulled and scuffed. The foot pressing down on the shell was unmistakably familiar to those who saw it, the clawed feet of a turinika. Within the hour, billions of winged figures stood in streets, the normally soft spoken and passive species demanding action, demanding justice, on the hundred worlds of the Turinika Conclave. The bulk of the Taratanti caste, most of whom had been left in the dark of the truth of the situation, quickly went public with their own declaration of outrage, and the eyes of the entire species turned inwards to the mountainous homeworld of their species.
Hakuri Watanabe looked down at his helmet before putting it on his bed, the stylized SEVEN seeming to stare at him. He sat down in his chair and picked up a small cloth from his buffing kit. No one knocked on his door, in fact, mostly he and the rest of his squad were left alone before a major operation. They were just given their time, time to mentally prepare. Some of his squad would go over their mission briefing, some, like him, would spend their time doing something to relax themselves. Hakuri always found that taking care of his suit calmed him considerably. Granted he could simply turn it over to the squads armorers to be tended to and they would do as good of a job as he could, but he preferred it to be done by his own hand. The symbol of a triangle was on his form fitting shirt, the symbol of his special operations command unit. He was known as a Myrmidon, but the official title of his unit was Section Three. He knew this, his superiors knew this, and as far as Hakuri knew, most of the Terran Front was aware of his unit’s existence, but past that, they knew very little about what he actually did. As far as his mother knew, Hakuri was a pencil pusher onboard the TFS Berlin, the troop mothership that all of his letters were sent from. He thought about writing her, but then again, he only liked to do that when he returned from a mission, not when he was expecting to go to one. If he tried to write her when he was waiting, he would just get anxious, and homesick. That wouldn’t do when he was dropping into a combat zone. That wouldn’t do at all. Hakuri instead started to buff his helmet, waiting for the word to come down which meant they were prepared to jump. A glance at the clock made him pause in his circular rotations. The clock said 1330. Operation Naked Sun was about to begin.
Tika was on his side, Kzia standing at the end of the medical bed that had been adjusted for his turinikan physiology. He felt cold in more ways than one. For his people, clothing was more of a decoration than a necessity, but without his protective plumage he felt the cold stabbing him through to his hollow bones. His diplomatic access was already gone, his privilege access revoked. He heard the broadcast for a preparation to jump, but he wasn’t truly listening. There was no question in his mind he had made the right decision. There was no question at all. One of the humans, a nurse, came to his side and gently laid a heavy blanket over him. The human’s hand lingered on his trembling body for a few moments before it was removed, and Tika glanced in their direction. The female was one of the ones who had responded first to the call for medical service for him, had heard what had happened and why. Tika had gotten very used to being glared at on this ship. He was hated, and he knew it. He knew he had deserved it. He was a party to the vral’s enslavement of the humans, the chua, and far too many others. When he had come to Thermopylae station, he had not even given that fact a single thought. He was born into power, being of the Taratanti. He belonged to the most powerful species and government in the entire quadrant of the galaxy. His people, while mighty, did not seek to use it. To him, they had simply been above it all. When the vral had approached him with the offer to sell captured species at first TIka had wanted to reject it out of hand, but a few had told him to go through with the sale. Such was the nature of this galaxy, or so he had believed. The weak were at the whims of the strong, and one’s place in the galaxy was determined only by the power they could wield. The turinika were not nearly the first to have taken a species and used it for slave labor, and while Tika did not approve of the deal, he had not fought it either. As he looked back to the wall, he remembered what the humans had taught him these last days. When he had arrived in Thermopylae he had assumed he would find the chua species to have been at the very least regulated to a subservient role, if not outright enslaved. Finding them sharing power was a curiosity. He had expected to be treated with all the honor and dignity that his station demanded, that the power of his government demanded. Fleet Marshal Simmons had disabused him of that, and had left him humiliated and shamed. As he had laid in the dark as Simmons had declared the Seventh Orion War, covered in his own filth, feeling as if at any moment he was going to be killed he knew true fear and horrific uncertainty for the first time in his life. He had never faced these emotions, these sensations before. He had always been in power. He had stood with the full might of the Turinika Conclave behind him. He had never known anything other than the superior position. Now, as he lay in the hospital bed, staring at the wall, he was ashamed of how arrogant, how blind, and how short sighted he had been. After he had risen from his own filth, he had desperately tried to convince his leadership of the strength of the Terran Front, how it matched or eclipsed their own. The Conclave was not the unchallenged power in the quadrant anymore. The terrans, the human and chua, had somehow defied fate. They had not fallen to the vral after ninety years of near constant conflict, and now if Tika was right they had come out of it nightmarishly stronger than before. Tika had actually begged to be heard by his superiors, and he had never come close to that once in his life. The chua homeworld however, had fully broken him. If he had not been on the Antares, had not been humbled beforehand, he knew that he would have just clapped his hands together and said that it was delightful. As the transmission from the chua homeworld had come in, and the rescue effort had begun, he could only wallow in his own shame. He had profited directly from the chua’s suffering, the human’s suffering. Again he had tried, and failed, to convince his people, and again he had failed. Being on the Antares, for him, was torture. The lights were too dim, every human and chua looked at him with nothing more than loathing and contempt, his entire worldview had been shattered from the way he viewed the galaxy to his own place in it. Every time he closed his eyes he saw the shadow of Simmons standing over him, her voice cold with a lethal rage, hearing her voice echo in his mind, seeing the glint from flashes of light shining in her eyes. ‘We Know.’ echoed in his mind in his sleep, the voice of the terrifying Fleet Marshal transforming into the sound of a vengeful god demanding compliance and promising retribution. Then he had watched the humans and chua, who he knew were preparing to go to war with his people, celebrating the return of the shesvie. Once more he had expected them to be integrated into the Terran Front, but as soon as he learned Simmons offer to them, and what it had entailed, he had been called to his room to answer the latest message from his people. Once again, his people had doubled down, the knowledge of the enslavement of the humans had been suppressed, and once more Tika found himself, and his people, standing against a Terran Front that had every justification to declare war, to right the wrongs that had been done to them. All the while, he knew something else. He knew that, after everything he had seen, that his people would lose. The turinika had not been to war for nearly two thousand years. His people were not ready for what the Terran Front could do, and after seeing what they had done to the vral so far, he knew his people were not ready for what the Terran Front would do. He was afraid of the dark. Tika was absolutely terrified of it now, because now he knew the monsters were real. Simmons had shown him that, but the humans, the chua, they were not the monsters. He was. He had refused to be one any more. He had announced his intentions to his staff, who had squalled in rejection, all but three. Kzia was the first to step to his side, Kikumot and Tziki had stepped forward as well. Never, in his most nightmarish dreams, did he ever think that he would stand in front of Simmons and voluntarily have his plumage stripped from him, performing the act of Kasva. He never thought that his staff would have ever compiled and transmitted the data package they had sent. He had never thought that he would betray his people, if only to save them. Simmons had changed that, the humans had changed that. He knew the terror of the dark, he knew fear for his people’s safety, he understood the horror of war, and for the first time in his long life he could truly look back at every interaction he had had, with every species, that had asked for help in their struggle for survival against the vral and truly understand their fear and desperation. Now he lay, his plumage stripped from him, his station revoked, his status removed, surrounded by a people who despised him. He wouldn’t have it any other way now. He knew that they would listen now, if not to him, then to the civilian masses of the Conclave that would not stand for what they had done. He prayed to the Great Mother often now, shivering in the dim light, hoping that it would be enough. He had been wrong, and in his error he had sullied his own people. He had made them complicit. Even now, he did not know how they would ever be forgiven, because right now he wasn’t quite sure he could ever forgive himself. As he heard the broadcast calling out on the ship, announcing one minute to jump, he felt a hand on his side, and looked up to the human nurse. She was smiling at him. Not a smile born of malice, or anger, but a genuine smile. She patted his side lightly, then turned to walk out of the room. For not even the twentieth time since he had come onboard Thermopylae, he was mystified by these people.
The bridge of the Dhampir was thrumming with music and the vibrations of the reactor and Conrad leaned forward in his chair mount, his eyes almost feral as he looked at the empty space that was the mandeville point. He was positively chomping at the bit. Batz was positively roaring the lyrics to the song that was blaring over the ships speakers. Rev and Dev sat side by side in their mounts, throwing their hands up in time with the pounding bass beat of the sound. Towns was the only one besides Conrad that was quiet, both of them looking towards the mandeville point with complete impatience. Conrad felt like jumping from his skin. Fidget, well, fidgetted, holding his hands over his headset and listening as if he were trying to hear secret messages in the music. They were ready, their pulses were racing. The crew of the Dhampir was positively vibrating. Conrad looked to the shipboard clock, seeing 1330 displayed, and his head snapped to Fidget, waiting for the word. They were going to run, they were going to chase, they were going to hunt.
Vicky sat back, looking towards Jess and Kukat as they slept. Jess was in her chair, Kukat in her medical bed. Vicky glanced back at the block print on the paper and read it for the fifth time. She read the individual lines, one at a time, cursing their existence. After reading through the message printed she let her hand hang again. Kukat would be released from medical tomorrow, and both her and Jess still thought they would be boarding the Thumper to join the Vellacore once more. Jess had talked non-stop about her quarters on the Vellacore the past few days, how she just wanted to be back in her room. Kukat was equally excited. Only Vicky didn’t share their excitement. They didn’t know yet. They didn’t know about their battlefield promotions, they didn’t know about their reassignments, they didn’t know the days of them working together were functionally over. Vicky looked down at her hand holding the paper again, and felt like crumpling it. She had lost her crew. She had lost them not due to negligence, or time, she had lost them to fame. Kukat was to be promoted to ensign, and was to be the sensor officer on the destroyer Hadrian, Jess was getting the same promotion, her station on the cruiser Victorious. Vicky? She was the sparkling new commanding officer of a destroyer that was arriving at Thermopylae in two days, the Quarrel. She never wanted this. She had turned down promotion after promotion that would take her from the cockpit of the Thumper, away from Kukat, away from Jess. She wanted to serve in this war in her own way, as a pilot, with the two who had made her life so enjoyable. Now though, they were to be split up, and there was nothing she could do about it. These promotions hadn’t come from simple seniority, they had come from High Command, as had the orders. Tomorrow, when Kukat was released, they would be ushered into the hanger bay of the Barrowmore. They would all three be awarded the Star of Terra, then they would be reassigned. Tonight was the last night they would all be together. Vicky wanted to wake them up, she wanted to tell them, to give them a chance to process it. As she looked to Kukat and Jess she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She held up the letter again, reading the first few lines, then she felt the sting of tears in the corners of her eyes. She looked away, her heart panging with sadness, and stared at the wall. The clock read 1330.
Corporal Brandy was sitting on the small rack, with Janet Shippen sitting between his legs using his thighs as armrests. They were both dressed for the first time in the last few hours, both of them staring at the clock. This close to the reactors they could feel them beginning to spool up for the trip through hyperspace. When the news of the operation had come down they had elected to spend as much time together as possible, which Brandy had enjoyed to no end, and he had made sure Janet had as well. Brandy had even taken some time to reach out to his sister Victoria, a rarity for them both, as since they were children they were often barely able to speak to each other simply due to schedules. He had even told her about Janet, and although he hadn’t gotten a response from his sister yet he already knew what she would say. Janet nestled back against him, but he could feel her body was stiff. Neither of them knew what the next few months were going to hold. Their time together might be constricted, in fact, this might be the last few moments they were together for quite awhile. Brandy’s Ghouls were specialists, ship boarders. Chances are he was going to be extremely busy, as was she. He didn’t quite know how he felt about Janet, but he did know that beyond a shadow of a doubt he didn’t want to be away from her. Judging from how she was acting, she felt the same as him, conflicted about her relationship with him, but not wanting to be apart. He knew what he needed to tell her, that he had to get up, that he had to leave. The Ghouls were going to be assembled at 1345, ready to board. Her unit was going to be prepared at the same time, to begin taking on salvage. Her hands were like clamps on his legs, and from how tense she was, he wasn’t going to get up until she was good and ready. The clock on the wall switched to 1330. He stared at the clock, feeling like the clock was mocking him, when suddenly Janet leaned up and turned. Her hands took hold of his shoulders and she threw her body against his, her lips finding his own. Her arms wrapped around her frame and he tightened his grasp on her.
Simmons spread her hands over the panel in front of her, looking at the table. Seven points connected the recently reclaimed chua space to what was former Shesvie territory, and beyond that, the heart of the Vral Empire. Her lip curled in a wicked smile, On the digital display of the table the hyperspace lanes, and more importantly, the avenues of attack her fleet was preparing to take. She held out her hand, all five fingers splayed over the lanes, envisioning the war as it stood now. The war to come. Seven hyperspace lanes, seven systems, branching out into sixteen, branching out again to another twenty. The Antares herself was going to link up with the Barraki, and was set to simply plough through the next five systems to do so. Slowly she tightened her hand into a fist as she looked along the hyperspace lanes, seeing task forces lined up and ready to jump. Drones had already been sent through. The vral had forces along the border, but nothing that could withstand what was to come. Her fleet was ready. She was ready. The Seventh Orion War was at the end of it’s first month, and had taken back six systems. The first moves of Operation Naked Sun would double that and exceed it, then double it again. She had already given her speech, her task force commanders were ready. High Command had taken it’s time making this decision, and while she had railed against the delay that didn’t matter now. All along the front, individual task forces were joined into larger fleets, ready to jump into the next system and eliminate any vral defenses, but unlike now, they simply would not wait. Naked Sun was to be a lightning strike to cut off as much of the Vral Empire as possible, to deny them their own space, to imprison them on their own worlds. Task Forces were designed around three types of vessels combinations, Lighthammer Task Forces were comprised of corvettes and fast destroyers, the fastest vessels in the fleet, meant to take systems quickly, to devastate unprotected infrastructure, and to eliminate light resistance. Simply put, they were going to swarm into vral space, determine pockets of resistance, and move on. They were going to rip entire sections of vral space from them, calling in other task groups if needed. Thunder task groups were the primary capital fleets, meant to be sent into those pockets of resistance, and neutralizing them, joining with the Lighthammer groups if needed. The cruisers, carriers, battleships, they all belonged to these task forces. Her own task force was called the Nova task force, and it comprised only the Antares and it’s sizable fleet escort. Simmons glanced up at the clock, the time was 1329. She breathed in slowly, then unbidden the thought came to her head and she looked to the report from the two habitable planets that had been scanned by the drone cutters, the information having been relayed to her almost twenty minutes prior. She was not worried about the ground campaign, in fact a reserve fleet from Thermopylae would be the ones to escort the landing ships from planet to planet that her fleet left behind in it’s wake, isolated and defenseless from the wider Vral Empire. Fleet escorting was no longer her job, protecting ground invasions were no longer her job. Simmons was positively growling now, as her only job was to take her fleet and use it to rip the vral out of the stars. Still, the thought nagged at her. On both of the planets that her fleet was set to overrun, there were Vral ships in orbit. On the first, there was evidence that the Vral had been bombarding a small area of the surface, extremely similar in size to the hole that now existed on Zvitia, the planet that even now was being integrated into the Terran Front. In the second system it showed Vral ships in orbit, but whatever they were doing during the time they had taken the scans, whatever they were covering up, they didn’t seem to have gotten to it yet. On the radiological scan of the planet a massive bloom of electromagnetic energy painted a broad region of the planet blistering white. She had sent the images back to Earth, back to High Command, but no one seemed to know what was happening. The one thing that every analyst agreed on so far that was that whatever the blooms represented, it meant nothing good. She took another long look at the radiological scan, seeing the intensity of the radiation, and her lip curled in a snarl. She couldn’t think about that right now, but orders had already been given to notify her the moment that they had taken a planet that still bore the radiation signal. The vral were being damned fastidious about it though. She pulled her thoughts away from it, looking back to the hyperspace lanes. The slow grin entered her features again. She glanced at the clock. 1330. Her hand took hold of the receiver next to her station and she pressed the transmission stud, knowing that Hazard had already opened a channel to the wider fleet.
“Commence.”

2024.05.18 16:49 Admirable-Flower-807 Concert Experience @ Bridger Brewing

I went to Josh Turner last night at Bridger Brewing and want to hear from anyone else who hasve seen a show at this venue.
Tickets. Affordable! They said they'd email them but instead texted them randomly a month or so before the show.
Schedule - original schedule was doors at 6, show at 7. So when I arrived at 655 to find out it gates weren't open yet it was a little frustrating. The wind was hellacious and def would have taken my time and avoided the extra time in the elements... Apparently they did send an email at 545 notifying everyone they were pusing back an hour but as I wasn't the one who purchased the tickets we did not get the memo.
The show was meant to start at 7 but started closer to 845. Almost 2 hours late. Granted, with the wind they had a lot of obstacles to overcome with the sound. The speakers had to stay on the ground for the opening band and standing by the sound booth we couldn't hear anything but bass and vocals. I think those poor guys were also freezing.
Parking - We purchased 2 parking passes for $5 each. There was no specific QR code or pass for parking - when we called and asked they said it would be an "honor system" of who paid or not. My sister arrived 15 minutes before us and they just sent them right into the further away lot. When we arrived they asked to scan our ticket QR and directed us to the closest lot. The difference in proximity to where we got to park was drastic! So... I guess don't bother paying for parking cuz they'll send you wherever anyway.
Food & Drink. I called in advance to ask if they would have food available inside the venue. I was told no, they would not be any food for sale inside so if you wanted to eat you have to eat at the restaurant before the show. Access to the restaurant during the show is not available. And, when we arrived there was actually a burger truck and a taco stand. Both were delicious, wait times were significant but if you're hungry enough you had options. Drink lines were never bad and accepted both cash and card.
Sound. They def stalled on starting the show on purpose and it worked out because by the time Josh took the stage they had raised the speakers and the wind was died down. The sound was great for him, I felt bad for the openers, it was just bad luck.
Bathrooms- plenty of porta pottys and very clean.
Water - available for free if you bring your own bottle in.
Seating - all GA (except VIP). People brought blankets and lawn chairs and posted up on the grass. Once the show started they opened up the 'pit" closer to the stage and it quickly filled in. There were a handful of people in the lawn who tried to tell people not to stand but... Sorry folks that's never gonna happen at a GA show.
Exiting - there are areas that could use more lighting for the walk back to the parking lot. Walking to your car felt a little unsafe as you have to walk between the stream of cars and there are some hidden ditches/ropes that are hard to see. I think safety is the biggest issue. Otherwisez the flow of traffic getting out was not bad at all. Also saw 3 people pulled over from 3 Forks back to Bozeman so...always have a DD people!
Overall, I think it was a good experience as a new venue. Some improvements since I saw the Dwellers there before. The elements will be the biggest battle for that venue. Similar to the Gorge, exposure to the wind is unrelenting and everyone (including the musicians) were pretty uncomfortable for the first few hours. I think several people had to leave before Josh even took the stage.

2024.05.18 05:19 lakorai 2024 Camping Gear Memorial Day Deals Megathread (USA)

As promised, The 2024 Memorial Day Camping Gear deal thread is here to help our fellow readers some money for this upcoming holiday break. I have requested the mods keep this post a sticky until June 2, which is when most retailers end their Memorial Day sales. Keep in mind that not all US retailers will ship internationally and any savings you get can be wiped out from import duty, tariffs and taxes from your home country.
Keep in mind inflation has caused many items to have 10-30% price increases as warned by 's post from 2021. Prices will continue to go up as inflation gets out of control, so this could be a better time to buy camping gear than waiting till later in the year.
New for 2024 I am streamlining the deals thread so we can add additional retailers and cut down on clutter. I will list the retailer, example deals and if the retailer participates in cashback sites. Return policy, company background, credit card offers, free shipping etc will no longer be listed as that can be looked up on the retailer's website. This will make the threads appear on less posts and hopefully will flow a bit better. Thanks to several of you who offered this suggestion. I am also adding direct vendor sales as sales start (Marmot, Outdoor Research, Sierra Designs, Outdoor Vitals etc).
This thread focuses on retailers and e-commerce sites in the United States who sell multiple brands, are reputable businesses (ie not scam sites) and they ship and sell to anywhere in the US. I encourage you to check with the vendors directly and to use cashback sites like Activejunky.com and Topcashback.com to save as much money as possible in addition to these links.
Checkout Cashbackholic.com and cashbackmonitor.com to see what cashback sites are offering the highest cashback for whatever site you wish to shop at. Typically activejunky.com is the highest paying cashback site, but sometimes Maxrebates.com , topcashback.com and rakuten.com can be higher.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this sales thread for last year. I hope to have helped save fellow Redditors as much money as possible to help get more people into camping and the Backcountry. If you find additional retailers of note or sales please comment below and I will update this thread.

2024.05.18 03:21 the_rose_wilts Does this look worth it?

I have to buy a new car ASAP and the prices on cars are ridiculous. I'm hoping to find like an older Toyota or Honda that is reliable and still has life ledt. I drove like 30 minutes last night to look at a 2006 Honda Odyssey because on FB Marketplace photos it didn't look that bad and the price of $2500 was awesome, but it was not in as good of shape and had a check engine light and so I told them no.
Most of the time when I come across used cars at dealerships the websites calculate my monthly car payment as well over $200/month which I really cannot do right now and normally their lowest priced cars are around $13k at least. I have about $5000 from insurance payout from totaling my Kia. (It would have been around $7k but I was dumb and took out a title loan a couple weeks before I wrecked it). I need to save some to be able to register my car, etc. My credit score is about 670 currently.
I came across this CR-V and thought even though the mileage is high, it only has had 1 owner and the 3 accidents it has been in have been minor. And it's only around $9k so if it is worth it, I thought if I put about $3000-3500 down on it would maybe not be that bad of a monthly payment? It looks like it has had regular maintenance, but it may be due for timing belt due to the mileage is what I've been told.
Is this a CR-V with a k series also? Because I've heard K series Honda engines are very good. My sister also has a 2011 Honda Pilot that is at around 240k miles and it's still running good. I plan on going to the dealership tomorrow to look at it.

2024.05.18 01:40 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 105 inmates executed by Florida since the 1970s and their crimes (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 1, cases 1 to 52]

Here is my list of Florida's post Furman execution roster that I wrote for my personal death penalty project. To be clear, the dates given here are a loose timeframe of an offender's first known criminal activities (including misdemeanors and delinquent activities) to their executions, and not at all their years on death row. In a large number of death penalty cases, the offenders were committing high level felonies, even other murders in extreme cases like Ted Bundy, well before the murders that condemned them. I wanted to encapsulate the earlier known or suspected offenses in order to express the scope and scale of their crimes.
As a warning, due how the death penalty is utilized in the United States, many of the surveyed crimes are extremely graphic by nature. Please read at your own risk. On a different note, Florida is the last currently completed list. I'm still working on Texas, and as of now finished 484 entries out of the state's 587 cases to date.
As with my lists for Missouri, Virginia, and Oklahoma, reddit's character limitations forced me to split Florida's roster into two parts. Here is the link to part 2.
The currently 105 executed offenders, cases 1 to 52:
1. John Spenkelink (~1972-1979, electric chair): While on the run after escaping from a Californian prison, Spenkelink picked up 45 year old Joseph Szymankiewicz while he was hitchhiking. Like Spenkelink, Szymankiewicz was a career criminal, and had a conviction for murdering a owner of a furniture store during a robbery. They went on a nationwide crime spree together, but Spenkelink shot Szymankiewicz and disemboweled him with a hatchet while he was asleep in a hotel room. He claimed that the killing was done to protect himself from a sexual assault and being forced to play Russian Roulette, but this was rejected by the courts. Spenkelink had several previous convictions of armed robberies, some of which he was serving when he escaped from California.
2. Robert Sullivan (1973-1983, electric chair): Sullivan and his accomplice abducted 38 year old Donald Schmidt from a Howard Johnson's he managed. They bound Schmidt's hands behind his back, and drove him to a remote swamp in the Everglades. He was beaten with a tire iron and shot four times in the head. The pair then took Schmdit's watch and his credit cards from his body.
3. Anthony Antone (~1970s-1984, electric chair): Antone, a high ranking mobster, was hired by a crime boss to arrange the murder of Richard Cloud, a 33 year old private detective. He arranged for two of his associates to gun down Cloud on his own front porch. Although he wasn't directly present at the crime itself, Antone bore the harshest penalties due to his employer and one of his triggermen committing suicide in custody and the surviving triggerman agreeing to testify against him.
4. Arthur Goode III (~1960s-1984, electric chair): Goode lured 9 year old Jason VerDow into a forest, and raped and strangled him to death. The next day, he abducted Billy Arthe, a 10 year old Guatemalan immigrant, and took him on a journey to Washington D.C. On their way through Virginia, Goode kidnapped 11 year old Kenny Dawson. Both boys were sexually abused, and he strangled Dawson to death with a belt in front of Arthe. Arthe was rescued when a passing woman recognized him from the news coverages. Good was notorious for being a shameless pedophile who openly flaunted and defended his predations of young boys to any listening ears. When he acted as his own attorney during the proceedings for VerDow's murder, Goode's defense entirely hinged on pedophila apologetics and advocacy. He started victimizing younger boys in his early teens, and dealt with several accusations of sexual assault throughout high school. His execution was somewhat controversial, as Goode was cognitively disabled and had the mentality of a young child.
5. James Adams (~1962-1984, electric chair): During a burglary of a ranch, Adams beat the owner, 61 year old Edgar Brown, to death with a firepoker stick. Several of the undisclosed items Adams stole in the robbery were discovered in his wife's car. Prior to the murder, Adams had a rape conviction that gave him a 99 year sentence, but he managed to escape from prison.
6. Carl Shriner (~1962-1984, electric chair): Shriner shot and killed Judith Carter, a 32 year old clerk, while robbing a convenience store. He was involved with petty crimes since he was 8 years old, and Shriner was on parole for armed robbery at the time of the murder.
7. David Washington (1976-1984, electric chair): Washington started his crime spree by fatally stabbing a minister, 69 year old Daniel Pridgen, during a robbery of his home. A few days later, he broke into a home that had 64 year old Katrina Birk and her 3 sister in laws inside. He tied up all four women, and stabbed and shot them. Birk was killed, but her sister in laws survived with crippling injuries. The day after Birk's murder, Washington and his accomplices kidnapped 20 year old Frank Meli from a university, tied him to a bed, and tried extorting a ransom from his family. When that failed, he stabbed his captive to death. In his 10 day long murder and robbery spree, Washington stole jewelry, a car, an undisclosed amount of some money from Pridgen, and $8 from Birk and her sister in laws.
8. Ernest Dobbert Jr. (1972-1984, electric chair): Dobbert routinely tortured his children with beatings, poking their eyes with his fingers, dunking their heads in bathtubs, and burnings with cigarette lighters. Two of them, 9 year old Kelly and 7 year old Ryder, were strangled to death during one of his daily beatings and torture sessions.
9. James Henry (~1965-1984, electric chair): Henry invaded the home of Zellie Riley, a 81 year old Civil Rights activist. He tied up and gagged Riley, slit his throat with a razor blade, and stole $64. A few days later, Henry shot and wounded detective Ronald Ferguson in a confrontation. He previously shot and injured a man in one incident and non fatally stabbed a man in another, and alleged in both cases that the circumstances were self defense. However, the apparent victims made identical claims that Henry was trying to rob them.
10. Timothy Palmes (1976-1984, electric chair): Palmes used his girlfriend to lure her employer, a 41 year old furniture store owner named James Stone, to her apartment and knocked him unconscious with a hammer. Palmes and his other accomplice, Ronald Straight, bound him with wire and locked Stone in a wooden box they specifically made for him. They tortured their captive by slowly cutting his fingers off, and stabbed him 18 times with a machete and knife. The trio dumped Stone's body (which was still trapped in the box) into a river and stole his watch, car, and $2,800 from his store. Palmes tried to blame the killing entirely on his girlfriend, but she was granted immunity in exchange for testifying against him and Straight.
11. James Raulerson (1975-1985, electric chair): Raulerson and his accomplice robbed a restaurant at gunpoint, and raped one of the female employees. When the responding officers arrived at the scene, the pair engaged in a shootout with them. Both Raulerson's accomplice and a policeman, 23 year old Michael Stewart, were killed in the skirmish.
12. Johnny Witt (1973-1985, electric chair): Witt and his accomplice frequently stalked random people they could in the woods, as they were thrilled by the prospect of hunting other human beings. On a whim, the pair ambushed 11 year old Jonathan Kushner while he was riding his bike. They incapacitated Kushner by hitting him in the head with a drill star bit and gagged him. After they tossed him in the back of their truck, Kushner suffocated on the gag. Witt and his accomplice then cut the boy's stomach open to prevent bloating, engaged in intercourse with his body, and buried Kushner in a shallow grave.
13. Marvin Francois (1977-1985, electric chair): During what is now called the "Carol City massacre", Francois and two other men, Beauford White and John Ferguson, forced their way into a drug house. They tied up the 8 men and women inside (who were all between 24-45 years old), and shot them all in the head. Only two of the victims, 45 year old Johnnie Hall and 24 year old Margaret Wooden, survived. A total of $800 was stolen in the attack. Accomplice Ferguson (who was executed in 2013) also committed a series of unrelated murders that Francois wasn't involved with. These crimes are discussed in depth under Ferguson’s section (case 78) in Part 2 of this list.
14. Daniel Thomas (1976-1986, electric chair): Thomas and his accomplices, dubbed the "Ski Mask Gang" by the media, went on a rampage that involved the burglaries of 16 homes and the rapes of 5 women. The husband of one of those women, 49 year old Charles Anderson, was shot dead in an attempt to protect her. Other murders attributed to the Gas Mask Gang include 20 year old Henry Kersey (shot to death while trying to defend his wife, who was then tossed off a bridge) and 70 year old Tessie Henderson (succumbed to injuries received in a beating). Another woman was blinded after members of the Ski Mask Gang poured liquid plumber into her eyes.
15. David Funchess (1973-1986, electric chair): Fuchess was fired from a liquor store due to the owners suspecting him of stealing money. A year later, he assaulted his former workplace with a knife. He stabbed two employees, 62 year old Bertha McLeod and 52 year old Anna Waldrop, and a customer, 56 year old Clayton Ragan. Waldrop and Ragan were killed at the scene, while McLeod died from complications relating to her injuries two years after the attack. Fuchess left the store with several canceled checks that total around $6,000. He had several misdemeanors and minor felonies on his previous record that included theft, loitering, obstructing traffic, public intoxication, and disturbing the peace. Fuchess also attracted some public sympathy due to him being a Vietnam combat veteran that was diagnosed with PTSD.
16. John Straight (1976-1986, electric chair): As mentioned in Timothy Palmes' section, Straight took part in the torture murder of David Stone, and the robbery of his furniture store.
17. Beauford White (~1963-1987, electric chair): White was another participant in the "Carol City massacre" that the previously mentioned Marvin Francois was involved in. He had a lengthy criminal history dating back to the 1960s, and one of his past convictions was related to an attempted rape.
18. Willie Darden (~1970s-1988, electric chair): Darden was convicted of the shooting death of 54 year old James Turman and the non fatal shooting of a 16 year old neighbor while robbing Turman's Furniture Store. Turman's wife was also raped in the robbery. Some supporters had citied that he was tried by an all white jury, and used it to push a narrative that Darden, a black man, was condemned out of racism. He had several previous convictions, which included assault, forgery, theft, and the attempted rape of a 70 year old woman. Darden was on furlough for the latter conviction during the time of Turman's murder.
19. Jeffrey Daugherty (1976-1988, electric chair): While on a road trip with his uncle and girlfriend, Daugherty murdered at least 4 women and one man, 68 year old Carmen Abrams, 50 year old Betty Campbell, 49 year old Lavonne Sailer, 28 year old Elizabeth Shank, and 18 year old George Karns. The victims were slain through either shootings or stabbings at grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants they worked at, but Sailer was attacked while hitchhiking. Daugherty mostly murdered for personal enjoyment, but he often stole coins, clothes, and watches from the victims.
20. Theodore Bundy (~1970s(?)-1989, electric chair): Across multiple states, Bundy kidnapped, raped, and murdered a bare minimum of ~20-36 females between the ages of 12-26. Although his true body count is uncertain and heavily disputed, most experts agree that it well exceeds official estimates. Bundy's abduction tactics were diverse, and ranged from grabbing targets by force, pretending to be a cripple in need of help, posing as emergency workers, seduction, and luring them in through hitchhiking. On some occasions, Bundy broke into the residences of victims, and assaulted them in their bedrooms. After an abduction, the victims were bound with handcuffs, raped while they were alive, and he engaged in acts of necrophila with their bodies. Most of his killing methods were strangulations with cords or beatings with tire irons and other blunt instruments. Several victims were also decapitated, and he kept their heads as trophies. Bundy disposed of corpses by dumping them in deserts, mountains, swamps, and other remote wilderness environments accessible to him.
21. Aubrey Adams Jr. (1978-1989, electric chair): Adams lured 8 year old Trisa Thomley into his car by offering her a ride home from school. He tied the girl up and dragged her to a remote forest. She was then raped and suffocated with a plastic bag.
22. Jesse Tafero (~1960s-1990, electric chair): A pair of patrolmen, 39 year old Phillip Black and 39 year old Donald Irwin (who was also a Canadian constable), found Tafero sleeping in his car with his wife, their children (which consisted of a 9 year old son and a 10 month old daughter), and a friend. What exactly occurred next is heavily disputed, but Tafero or his friend shot both officers dead, after they noticed a gun on the dashboard and asked the group to climb out. The group then fled in a police car, disposed of it, and kidnapped a man to carjack him. Tafero's execution was controversial, as his head caught on fire during the electrocution, and his supporters cited evidence of his friend (who was sentenced to life, but was released in 1994 on good behavior) being the triggerman in the shootings. He also had a long history of armed robbery, rape, and sodomy. Tafero's wife was initially condemned for the murder, but her sentence was reduced to 25 years to life on appeal in 1981, and was released with an Alford Plea in 1992.
23. Anthony Bertolotti (1983-1990, electric chair): Bertolotti enticed 46 year old Carol Ward into his home with the promise of helping her make a phone call. He held Ward at knife point, demanded money, and raped her. She was stabbed to death during the assault, and Bertolotti drove away with her car. In the trial, Bertolotti alleged that Ward offered him sex in exchange for stopping the robbery, and used it to claim that his angry girlfriend made him kill her for it.
24. James Hamblen (1984-1990, electric chair): Hamblen shot and killed 34 year old Laureen Edwards during a robbery of her store. Despite forcing Edwards to disrobe, Hamblen left he unmolested. He then fled to Texas and quickly started a relationship with 20 year old Debbie Abbott. A month later, Hamblen shot Abbott dead during a heated argument.
25. Raymond Clark (~1964-1990, electric chair): In 1964, Clark beat Marshell Taylor, his landlord's 14 year old son that he groomed and abused, to death with a pipe. After his parole at an undisclosed date in the 70s, Clark groomed another 14 year old boy into an illicit relationship. He recruited him in the abduction of David Drake, a 49 year scrap dealer. With the boy's help, he kidnapped their victim at gunpoint with the intentions of ransoming him back to his family. The pair forced Drake to write them a $5,000 check, and shot him in the head. When he wasn't able to cash in the check, Clark dropped his accomplice off at his home to avoid being charged with the boy's kidnapping, fled to California, and tried to trick Drake's family into paying his ransom. However, a series of calls was traced to his accomplice, and he implicated Clark to the police.
26. Roy Harich (1981-1991, electric chair): Harich kidnapped two teenage girls, 18 year old Carlene Kelly and 17 year old Deborah Miller, after luring them into his van from a beach. The pair were then both sexually assaulted. He shot Kelly dead, slit Miller's throat, and dumped them on a highway. Miller survived the attack and dragged herself to safety.
27. Bobby Francis (~1970s-1991, electric chair): Suspecting him of being a police informant against his drug trafficking enterprise, Francis abducted 35 year old Titus Walters. He tied him up and forcibly injected drano and battery acid into his body for a span of two hours. Despite Walters' pleas for his life, Francis shot him in the head and heart.
28. Nollie Martin (1977-1992, electric chair): Martin and his accomplice robbed a convenience store at knifepoint, stole $90, and kidnapped the clerk, 19 year old Patricia Greenfield. She was then raped and stabbed to death by her captors.
29. Edward Kennedy (~1977-1992, electric chair): In 1977, Kennedy and some partners shot and killed 33 year old Robert Brown, during a robbery of a motel. He was given a life sentence for the murder. Four years later, Kennedy escaped from prison. While on the run, he broke into a house in hopes of stealing money and guns. The homeowner, 32 year old Floyd Cone Jr. returned home with his cousin, 35 year old Robert McDermon (who worked as a state trooper), and unwittingly intercepted Kennedy. He shot them both dead, fled to a neighboring home, and took a 21 year old woman and her 4 month old son hostage. After a hour long standoff, Kennedy released his captives and surrendered himself to the police.
30. Robert Henderson (~1964-1998, electric chair): In December of 1982, Henderson went on a month long rampage across 6 states. He raped, robbed, and murdered a total of 12 people between the ages of 11-79 through shootings. Three of the victims where his wife's parents, 61 year old Ivan and 57 year old Marie Barnett, and her 11 year old brother Clifford. A few other victims were women, like 50 year old Dorothy Wilkinson, 37 year old Cheryl McDonald, 30 year old Jerilyn Stanfield, and 21 year old Lucinda Russell, that were kidnapped from their workplaces and homes and raped. A couple more were men, such as 79 year old Murray Ferderbe and 61 year old Sam Corrent, that he killed while robbing their homes and businesses. Henderson's last remaining murders were a trio of hitchhikers, 27 year old Vernon Odom, 23 year old Frances Dickey, and 18 year old Robert Dawson, that he killed together. Last but not least, Henderson bound an unidentified woman and her 12 year old daughter at gunpoint during a break in of their home. After Henderson raped the mother, he tried to do the same to her daughter. The mother then broke free from her restraints, and chased him away from her home. Contemporary media reports noted that the mother "fought harder for her daughter then she did for herself." Henderson had prior convictions of growing marijuana, assaulting officers, and stealing license plates.
31. Larry Johnson (1979-1993, electric chair): During the robbery of a gas station, Johnson shot and killed the clerk, 67 year old James Hadden. Like David Funchess, Johnson enjoyed a considerable amount of public sympathy due to him being a combat veteran of the Vietnam War.
32. Michael Durocher (1983-1993, electric chair): In 1983, Durocher made an agreement with his girlfriend, 31 year old Grace Reed, to conduct a murder-suicide pact involving her 5 year old daughter Candace and their 6 month old son Joshua. Although he shot and stabbed them all to death, Durocher backed out of his end of the pact. He later shot dead 27 year old Thomas Underwood while robbing a decorating story in 1986, and beat his roommate, 38 year old Edward Childers, to death during an argument in 1988.
33. Roy Stewart (1978-1994, electric chair): 77 year old Margaret Haizlip invited Stewart into her home. When she caught Stewart stealing a gold watch from her medicine drawer, Haizlip tried to evict him. In the confrontation, Stewart raped and strangled her to death with an electrical cord. Her body was found with 8 broken ribs, a fractured larynx, bite marks on her thighs and breasts, several contusions, and a torn vagina.
34. Bernard Bolender (~1970s-1995, electric chair): In a drug deal gone wrong, Bolender and two accomplices abducted their dealers, 39 year old John Merino, 38 year old Rudy Ayan, 33 year old Nicomedes Hernandez, and 25 year old Scott Bennett, at gunpoint, and robbed them of their jewelry. All four men were beaten with baseball bats, stabbed, and burned with heated knifes to extort an additional source of cocaine from them. Most of the hostages died in the 2 hour long torture session, but Merino was still alive when Bolender burned him and the other hostages' bodies in a car. Although most of his criminal history is murky, Bolender was heavily involved in the drug trade during the 1970s at the bare minimum.
35. Jerry White (~1962-1995, electric chair): White robbed a grocery store, and held the owner, 53 year old Alex Alexander, and a trio of customers (which consisted of 34 year old James Melson, an unidentified man, and the man's 12 year old daughter) at gunpoint. He shot and killed Melson, wounded Alexander, and tried forcing the father and daughter into a freezer. When the pair refused, White tried to shot them, but his gun misfired. The man and his daughter were able to flee with their lives and called the police, while White ran off with $338. White had 9 previous convictions, which included attempted murder, armed robbery, theft, and burglary, and was first arrested at the age of 14.
36. Phillip Atkins (1981-1995, electric chair): Atkins kidnapped 6 year old Antonio Castillo and molested him in a forest. When Castillo threatened to tell his parents about the abuse, Atkins bludgeoned him to death with a pipe.
37. John Bush (~1970s-1996, electric chair): Bush and three other men kidnapped 18 year old Frances Slater from a gas station she worked as a clerk at. They stabbed her to death and stole $100 from the register. Slater's murder attracted national attention due to her being the granddaughter and heiress of renowned singer Frances Langford and the outboard motor mongrel Ralph Evinrude. Bush's previous convictions include rape and robbery.
38. John Mills Jr. (1982-1996, electric chair): Mills and his accomplice tied up and abducted 30 year old Les Lawhon after ransacking his trailer for any valuables. They took him to a nearby abandoned airport to hideout. Lawhon then was beaten with a tire iron and shot in the head execution style.
39. Pedro Medina (1982-1997, electric chair): Medina tied up and gagged 52 year old Dorothy James in her home. He stabbed her to death and stole her car, which he was captured sleeping in by investigating police officers. His execution was a source of controversy, as Medina's head burst into flames as he was electrocuted on the chair. Medina's case and similar incidents led to Florida gradually phasing out of the electric chair in favor of lethal injection.
40. Gerald Stano (~1960s-1998, electric chair): Stano was convicted of murdering 22 women and girls between the ages of 12-35, though he admitted to 41, and is suspected of a total of 88 killings. His victims were all lured with promises of rides, payment for sexual favors, or abducted through force. The methods he used were diverse, and included drownings, shootings, stabbings, and strangulations. Most of the sources noted that none of his victims were raped, and that Stano seemed to have murdered out of an enjoyment for killing. As a child, Stano was charged with fasley pulling fire alarms at school and throwing rocks at cars. He was also fired for stealing from coworkers in one of his jobs.
41. Leo Jones (1981-1998, electric chair): Supposedly out of revenge for being brutalized by policemen, Jones was convicted of killing Thomas Szafranski, a 28 year old officer, in a sniper attack. Szafranski was driving his patrol car when he was ambushed and murdered. His execution was contested, as Jones claimed that he was coerced into confessing by investigators through beatings, and one of the apparent witnesses allegedly recounted his testimony.
42. Judy Buenoano (~1957-1998, electric chair): Over the course of 11 years, Buenoano poisoned her husband, 32 year old James Goodyear, her son, 19 year old Michael, and her boyfriend, 39 year old Bobby Morris with arsenic to collect their life insurance policies. She also made an attempt to poison another boyfriend after he was injured in a suspicious explosion, but was foiled by a police investigation. As a young girl, Buenoano assaulted her father, stepmother, and stepbrothers, and served a two month sentence for it.
43. Daniel Remeta (1985-1998, electric chair): Remeta and his accomplices shot and killed 5 people, 60 year old Mehrle Reeder, 55 year old Glenn Moore, 42 year old Linda Marvin, 29 year old John Schroeder, and 27 year old Larry McFarland, across Kansas, Arkansas, and Florida. The victims were all murdered in convenience store, restaurant, and gas station robberies.
44. Allen Davis (~1970s-1999, electric chair): Davis broke into a home with the intentions of raping 9 year old Kristina Weiler. Although no sexual assault occurred, Davis tied Kristina up and shot her in the head. He also struck her pregnant mother, 37 year old Nancy, 25 times on her head and face with his pistol, and left the body "bruised beyond recognition." When Kristina's sister, 5 year old Katherine, tried to escape, Davis shot and bludgeoned her to death. He then sacked the home for any belongings. Davis was a long time felon, and had several previous convictions of burglary, child molestation, and involuntary manslaughter. His execution caused significant controversy, as his nose bled all over his body during the fatal shocks, and he suffered burns to his legs, head, and groin. The backlash, combined with other botched incidents like Pedroa Medina and Jesse Tafero, resulted in Florida replacing the electric chair with lethal injection.
45. Terry Sims (1977-2000, lethal injection): George Pfeil, a 57 year old deputy and WW2 veteran, walked into a pharmacy that Sims and his 3 accomplices were robbing, to pick up a prescription. Upon seeing what was happening, Pfeil pulled out his gun and engaged the robbers, but was killed by them in the shootout. Although Sims was injured, he managed to escape the scene, and was captured a month later while trying to carry out another robbery in California.
46. Anthony Bryan (1983-2000, lethal injection): Bryan and his accomplice kidnapped a night watchman, 60 year old George Wilson, and used his keys to rob a bank he guarded. They drove Wilson to a remote forest and shot him in the head. The pair dumped his body in a creek and drove their car into a lake to destroy any evidence.
47. Bennie Demps (~1971-2000, lethal injection): Demps received his first death sentence in 1971 when he shot and killed a real estate agent, 54 year old Robert Brinkworth, and his client, 64 year old Celia Puhlick, while the victims were trying to engage in a house sale. He also wounded Celia's husband, 62 year old Nicholas, and stole a safe from the house. However, his first death sentence was lifted from the brief nationwide capital punishment ban from the Furman decision. Two years after his first death sentence was commuted, Demps was given a second death sentence when he fatally stabbed another inmate, 23 year old Alfred Sturgis, on the behalf of the Perjury Incorporated prison gang. Sturgis was in prison for murder, and he was targeted due to Perjury Incorporated's suspicions of him of being an informant.
48. Thomas Provenzano (1984-2000, lethal injection): In retaliation for being charged for disorderly conduct months earlier, Provenzano stormed a courthouse, and shot and killed Arnold Wilkerson, a 60 year old deputy that was a veteran of WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, on the scene. Two more policemen, 53 year old Harry Dalton Jr. and 19 year old Mark Parker, were also hit by gunfire, and they both died from complications relating to their injuries years after the attack.
49. Dan Hauser (1995-2000, lethal injection): Out of a desire to kill somebody, Huser enticed a stripper, 21 year old Melanie Rodrigues, into a motel room with the promise of payment for sexual services. After they had intercourse, he strangled her to death. Hauser was also caught stealing a truck months before the murder.
50. Edward Castro (1986-2000, lethal injection): Castro lured three homosexual men, 57 year old Austin Scott, 50 year old George Hill, and 46 year old Claude Henderson, from gay bars. The victims were all tied up and stabbed to death in their homes. After each killing, Castro left with valuables such as cars, watches, rings, money, and wallets.
51. Robert Glock II (1983-2001, lethal injection): Glock kidnapped 34 year old Sharilyn Ritchie from a mall parking lot and forced her to withdraw $100 from an ATM. He then drove Ritchie to a forest 60 miles away and shot her in the head. Ritchie's wedding ring and purse was also stolen in the attack.
52. Rigoberto Sanchez-Velasco (1986-2002, lethal injection): Sanchez-Velasco raped and fatally strangled Katixa Ecenarro, his girlfriend's 11 year old daughter. While awaiting execution for Ecenarro's murder, Sanchez-Velasco got into a fight with fellow condemned inmates, 41 year old Charles Street and 30 year old Edwin Kaprat, and stabbed them both to death. Kaprat received a death sentence for the sexual abuse and torture-killings of 4 elderly women, while Street was sentenced to death for the shooting murders of two police officers.

NFC Google Review cards - 1 Year Experimentation. Brutally honest, deep insights and the pros and cons. What type of business can benefit from the Google review card, or NOT.
Hello everyone, I am the founder of Tappty ( https://tappty.com ), the One Tap Google Review NFC card service provider. I've been doing nation-wide experimentations for little over a year, focusing on "Google reviews" and consumer behavioral studies. And I wanted to share honest, interesting insights about Google review cards and how it impacts local businesses, including pros and cons.
https://preview.redd.it/g50im51v421d1.png?width=432&format=png&auto=webp&s=7b1a200ba0d3fa46d6dd93a3aaf09f27913402bd
If you are a local business owner (i.e. restaurants, cafe, dessert shop, spa/massage, mattress stores, contractors, etc.), you will find valuable insights about automated customer acquisition strategy within this post, so I highly recommend reading this through!
A brief sneak-peak into some of the insights I will be covering. Detailed explanations provided in the body paragraph.
As this can be quite a long, in-depth content, I'll start this off by outlining the agenda below:
  1. Why is this effective, and what types of business does it benefit?
  2. How many Google reviews is good enough, and what's the good average Star-rating?
  3. The Pros
  4. The Cons
  5. The Verdict

1. Brief Intro to the Concept of NFC & Google Review Card (What the hell is it?)

First of all, let me explain briefly what "Google Review NFC Card" is for those people who hasn't heard of it yet.
One short video is much better than 1,000 words explanation, so here is the 20 sec demo:
A short demo of how \"Google Review NFC Cards\" work
Basically, Google Review card is utilizing a technological concept called "NFC". It works in the same way as how Apple Pay or Google Pay works, and the physical card stores programmed information that gets "activated" when you tap a smartphone (iPhone or Android) onto the card.
In the case of the Google Review card, the card stores the URL information of the "Instant Google Review Writing Page" of a business, that is uniquely given to every business owners with Google business profile.
Example - Instant Google Review Writing Page for Panda Express - [ URL here ]
So when you tap a smartphone onto the Google Review card, your smartphone reads the URL information programmed into the card, and automatically opens up the web browser to visit the page (in which case, it would be the Google review writing page).

2. Why is this effective, and what types of business does it benefit?

In terms of "WHY Google Review Card is effective", I'll break this down in the most concise form possible:
  1. Google review has massive impact on local businesses' customer acquisition & marketing.
  • How often have you checked reviews/star-rating on Google Map to make visitation decisions for a restaurant/cafe or other local businesses?
  • You are not the only one using Google Map to make the visitation/purchase decision. 95% of Americans are thinking in the same way as you are, when they are thinking as a consumer.
  1. It's hard to collect Google reviews from people, because it's too cumbersome.
    • It's estimated that less than 1~2% of customers are voluntarily leaving reviews.
    • If you haven't thought about this, it takes anywhere from 30 sec ~ 1 minute and a minimum of 7 action-steps for a customer to locate your business page on Google and start writing a review.
    • Customers are generally NOT motivated to jump through these inconvenience hoops, unless they are genuinely touched by your great service, or are pissed off (which makes it worse..)
  2. Google Review NFC Card is highly effective for increasing review collection rate, because it drastically shortens & simplifies the customer journey to leave a review.
    • With the Google review card, the process gets drastically simplified into 3 steps & 3 Seconds:
      • (1) Tap the card on a phone
      • (2) Auto-Opens the review writing page of your business
      • (3) Leave a review
    • Depending on the business types and/or tactics, I have been seeing a significant increase in "Review rate per customer", from as low as 20% to a whopping 2,500% increase.
In case you are wondering "How and why is Google review so important for a local business success?" I am attaching a URL link for a separate post that talks in great depth about the topic.
Okay, now we have a fundamental understanding of "Why Google review card is effective."

So (WHO) what types of businesses can get the best benefit out of Google review cards?

It's the LOCAL BUSINESSES that target local customers, which get heavily influenced by Google reviews.
Below is the comprehensive list of the business types:
  1. Food & Beverage - Restaurants, Cafe, Dessert Shops, etc.
  2. Beauty & Hygiene - Spa/Massage, Barber shops/hair salon, nail/pedicure, Make Up shops, etc.
  3. Medical & Clinics - Dental, Emergency Care, Chiropractic, Skin care, etc.
  4. Automotive - Car dealership, mechanics shop, etc.
  5. Sales - Mattress stores, Insurance agencies, marketing/printing agencies, etc.
  6. Home/Maintenance/Contractors/Professional Services - Lawn Mowing, Pool cleaning, Plumbers, Electrician, Construction, InterioExterior Design, etc.
  7. Specialty Retail - Any retail shops that focuses on selling specialty goods (so no groceries), like outdoor, sports, hunting, business equipment, etc.

3. How many Google reviews is "good enough," and what's the "good" average Star-rating?

As simple as these questions sound, there’s actually a whole complex cognitive science behind this.
I've conducted a nationwide study with over 1,500 randomized survey participants, to accurately answer the two questions. And below is the heatmap to visually represent the finding to the study:
https://preview.redd.it/zafiz5mww11d1.png?width=1271&format=png&auto=webp&s=98754e21986effdde51593b08947399b5032e3ac
As this alone is a very long and big topic to cover by itself, I am going to attach a link to a separate post that focuses about this. Please refer to this post (How many Google reviews is good enough? And what's the minimum average star-rating?), if you are interested in this specific topic.
But in a nutshell (TLDR):
  1. You want to stay away from the A/B/C Zone
  2. You want to get yourself in the D & E Zone:
    1. 390+ of Google review count (AND)
    2. 4.8 Stars if you have 390 reviews
      1. May decrease to 4.2 stars with 1,000+ reviews (OR)
      2. May decrease to 4.1 stars with 2,000+ reviews
      3. BUT NEVER BELOW 4.0 stars, no matter how many reviews you have.
  3. By the time your business reaches the D-Zone, Google's ecosystem will be positively impacting your growth and will be helping with your new customer acquisition greatly.
  4. And E-Zone is where true customer acquisition growth automation occurs, and you are pretty much set for life. Google will be consistently feeding you with more customers than you can chew, forming a long waiting line or a waitlist.
It's basically every local business owner's dream to reach the E-Zone, and those that do, generally tend to live a very happy, wealthy and well-balance life, and possibly expanding their businesses into other locations as well.

4. The Pros of Google review NFC cards

  1. Google Review Count Increase
  • It really does work, and you WILL experience a solid, noticeable increase in Google review count from the DAY 1 of using it.
  1. Reputation Improvement
    • The amount of 5-Stars you get significantly increases. Tons of customers are satisfied with your product/service, but are just too damn lazy to leave a review. One tap Google review card definitely solves this problem, and motivates these 'Low-key satisfied' customers to leave a review for you.
  2. Google Rank & Visibility (SEO) Improvement
    • As you collect more reviews and star ratings, Google's algorithm starts to place your business page above your competitor's. This has a major advertising impact on your business, without having to spend a single dime on ads.
  3. Sales Increase & Growth Automation
    • Combining the 3 effect mentioned above, it naturally leads to an automated growth of your business and sales. After certain threshold, you should be able to enjoy a positive, iterative cycle of auto-growth. Your reviews bring in more customers, and the customers leave more reviews, and the cycle goes on.

5. The Cons of Google review NFC cards

  1. "Passive Placement" of the cards isn't the best way. Find a clever way to deliver this card to your customers.
    • Typically, businesses utilize the Google review card in three ways:
      • (#1) Place it somewhere visible for the customers (reception desk, counter, etc.)
      • (#2) Directly hand it to the customers, asking for a review
      • (#3) Place it in the check (bill), when customer is done eating
    • #1 - although it produces better result than not having the Google review card, you're not really getting the full benefit out of it. Many customers tend to ignore it or simply don't notice them, and you are losing out on valuable opportunities to collect more reviews. It's the laziest form of utilizing the Google review card.
      • If you MUST utilize this method, make sure to get multiple Google review cards and place them around your shop EVERYWHERE (i.e. tables, chair, front door, bathroom door, you name it). This seems to increase the review rate significantly.
    • #2 - This yields the highest review result, and I definitely recommend this method the most. But this can be a little problematic depending on your circumstance, and it's definitely not the most feasible method when you are hectic during your peak hours.
    • #3 - This is a good balance between #1 & #2. While it's a passive way to gather review, it produces a great review yield. Customers generally have to wait for the server to pick up their check. While waiting, many of them get curious and try tapping their phone on the card out of curiosity, which converts into solid number of Google reviews per day.
  2. Review counts increase FAST, but your Sales will take time to improve.
    • As mentioned above, you will notice a significant increase in the number of Google reviews you get per day, from the DAY 1 of implementing the Google review cards.
    • You may be very happy and start expecting major improvements in your sales immediately, but transferring the impact into your actual sales takes some time to notice, anywhere between 1 to 6 months (I typically saw noticeable impact within the 2 ~ 4 months).
    • So if you are buying the Google review NFC cards, understand that it takes couple of months to start affecting your sales to a degree where you'll be able to notice 'Oh, we are definitely getting more customers nowadays!' Wait patiently, and you'll get there.
    • If you are in need of something that produces immediate results in the short-term, paid advertisements is the best way to go, although the cost-effectiveness is something I can argue.
  3. It's also easy to collect 1 star reviews.
    • As easy it is to collect 5 star Google reviews, it also makes it very easy to attract 1 star reviews as well.
    • This is a problem where many other Google review NFC cards suffer from, and some business owners are very concerned about this impact.
    • To tackle this problem, I have created a "5-Star Only" filter feature within our Google review cards (Tappty), where only 5 star reviews can be collected and low star reviews are blocked. Learn More about this feature here.
    • So if you plan on using Google review cards without 5-Star filter feature, understand this risk as well. I highly recommend you to check out our 5-star filter feature to mitigate the reputation risks.
  4. If your product/service sucks, Google review cards will not solve your problem.
    • While the Google review cards certainly helps, you need to work on solving the fundamental problem of your business.
    • Google review cards only help to generate more reviews and get online traction & visibility, but it has ZERO impact on your returning customers.
    • There are limited number of new customers in your local area, and there will be a time where you'll run out of new customers to bring in. If you cannot retain your customers to return, you will most definitely run out of business sooner or later.

6. The Verdict

If you meet the following criteria, I highly recommend you to get the Google review NFC cards:
  1. You are running a local business, and your primary target market is geographically limited to your local town/city.
  2. Google review has a significant impact on your customer acquisition and reputation.
  3. Your competitor(s) with higher Google review count and/or higher star ratings is doing well. You want to beat them, fast.
  4. You are doing well, but a new, nearby competitor(s) is growing very fast, and you want to maintain your dominance in your area.
  5. You are confident about your product/service quality, and you are feeling like you really need to work on marketing.
  6. You want to build a long-term customer acquisition funnel, and understand that sales performance will take time to improve.
  7. You understand the significance of Google reviews in your business success, and you want to improve your review status.
However, if you are in the following situation, I don't think Google review cards will provide too much of a value, and would not recommend you to try it:
  1. Your business landscape is mostly over the internet (e-commerce, software, etc.), and your target market is not geographically limited to your local region. In this case, Google review has minimal impact on your business and Google visibility.
  2. You are looking for an immediate, short-term revenue increase. Paid advertisement will work better for this.
  3. Your service/product quality consistently suffers, and the majority of your customers have been complaining about this. Better to fix your core issues before getting excited about collecting more reviews.
  4. You don't see much value of Google review and its impact towards your business. Some businesses occupy such a unique niche without any competitors, and this
And if you are interested in getting a Google review NFC card for your business, please feel free to check my product out at https://tappty.com (Tappty)!
We provide very affordable solutions (starting at $3.99), and is only a fraction of a cost compared to other Google review NFC cards in the market (most of them sells for $40 ~ 70 per card, and that's a ridiculous pricing).
And the best part - we are the only Google review NFC cards that offers the "5-Star Only" filter features, and it's literally a game changer in the industry!

2024.05.17 23:02 donhood Zyn and anxiety/cardiac symptoms

I'll start by saying I'm thankful to have found this forum, which I stumbled across while Googling the symptoms I was experiencing. Reading the stories that were mirrors of my own lead me to identify and eliminate the problem, as well as the peace of mind from knowing my situation was far from unique. I'm writing this out to hopefully leave for someone else to stumble across that's in the same position, or for those on the fence about quitting, or people needing the motivation to remain off nicotine.
40 year old male, and have had a fairly extensive history with nicotine. Started when partying in my 20's and would bum a drag from a cigarette, to bumming whole cigarettes, to eventually buying my own packs. I never picked up a regular smoking habit, as I refrained from doing it at the house or in front of certain people. But if I was drinking and/or around others who smoked I could really tear through them. Could still easily go days or a week without one. They smelled terrible, have the negative stigma these days, and not terribly convenient. I then explored other things like vapes, dip, snus, and eventually pouches.
I didn't initially like the pouches, as they didn't give the "hit" of taking a drag of the cigarette. I used them as a way to stop the "nasty" habit of smoking and replace them with the "clean and healthier" nicotine pouches. They VERY quickly took over though. Where I wouldn't smoke in certain situations, I could easily pop a pouch in. Eventually and in very short order, I went from an occasional social smoker, to having a 6mg nicotine pouch in pretty much every waking hour of the day. From the drive to work with my morning coffee, until it was time to brush my teeth and go to bed I had at least one in. Eating meals was seen almost as an inconvenience, and I'd sometimes finish as quickly as possible so I could put another pouch in. Wasn't out of ordinary to have the majority of a can finished in a day's time.
Early on, I started noticing I was clenching my jaws a lot, and would get some tension headaches. Seems like I started noticing the veins in my temples bulging quite often. My quality of sleep went to hell. If I could manage to stay asleep through the night, I'd still not wake up feeling refreshed. I have a physically demanding job and lifestyle, and noticed certain activities that were never a problem were becoming more difficult. I'd be winded and sweating, heart pounding from things that wouldn't have phased me prior. Foolishly I wrote these off as just getting older. I also started to get tightness in my chest, and it became seemingly difficult to take deep breaths. This one creeps up on you, and you don't really notice and even become used to it after it becomes ever-present.
Heart palpitations, and occasional racing heart for no reason began next. And the anxiety, which I had never ever experienced before. I had to look up on the internet what I was feeling because it was so unfamiliar when experienced out of context from situations where anxiety is normal. Literally the same feeling as I had waiting to jump out of the plane the first time I went skydiving, but happening at random for seemingly no reason. The frequency, and the intensity of these episodes began increasing to the point I began to worry. Eventually leading to a full panic attack where I thought I was having a heart attack and was going to die. If you've never experienced such a thing, it's one of the most horrible things you can suffer through, and you'll never forget it. You feel completely helpless, confused, scared out of your mind, and just want to crawl out of your own body to get it to stop.
Despite these symptoms, I refused to acknowledge the possibility that the insane amounts of nicotine i was administering to my body 24/7 had any relation to what was happening physically and psychologically. I got to the point I could feel one of the episodes coming on, and out of instinct (or learned behavior) would spit the pouch out, drink a lot of water, and would get eased out of it before it totally took me over. Then of course as soon as I felt better I'd throw another pouch in.
Until one day last week, I felt the anxiety coming on, but nothing I did could shake it. I was light-headed, nauseous, clammy skinned, cold sweating, heart racing. And it wouldn't stop. I had to have a co-worker drive me home because I didn't trust my driving. Checked my BP and it was 148/94, heart rate 98 with detected irregular beat AFTER I had calmed down some and was feeling better. Symptoms continued on into the next day, where I eventually found this forum while doing searches. That was last week, and I've been 11 days with no nicotine.
First few days were brutal, and I thought I needed to visit the ER a couple times. Anxiety was high, couple panic attacks scattered in where I again thought I was having a medical emergency. Slight nausea and low appetite at first, pretty much had to force myself to eat, and when I did it made me slightly sick. The "brain fog" talked about on here is very real. It's like being completely disassociated with your mind and body. Tasks you do feel like you're on autopilot. You don't trust your cognitive abilities. Monitored my blood pressure regularly during this time, and it would be all over the place. Didn't take much to get it and my heart rate way up, which of course makes you feel bad and increases the anxiety. Could only fall asleep with the help of sleep aids, (Unisom). Muscle aches and fatigue, chest pains and tightness from the constant anxiety. Simple things during this time have been able to trigger an anxiety attack. Riding in a vehicle with someone else, frustrated with a project, and even getting a haircut. Just the fear of being "locked in" to the barber chair and not being able to get up and walk off an anxiety attack if I needed to, was enough to actually trigger one. Blood sugar was also all over the place and I was snacking like crazy.
I feel like I'm on an upward trajectory now, though. My appetite has returned. The anxiety is still present, but nowhere near the levels of last week. I'm also starting to be able to better control it. I feel like a weight has been taken off my chest and I can finally breathe fully. The palpitations/irregular heartbeats were very present the first week, but have tapered to almost non-existent now. Still monitoring my BP and HR, and while I'll still get some spikes, are more consistently low and getting better every day. My physical stamina is returning. I was weedeating a steep bank at the house that I've been slogging through for a while, and noticed that I wasn't even breaking a sweat or breathing heavy, weedeater felt light as a feather. Seriously felt like I was superhuman compared to just weeks before.
Sorry for the wall of text, just wanting to get my story out to hopefully help others the way the stories on here helped me. If you're thinking about quitting, do it. Especially if you're starting to notice some of the symptoms like I had from heavy use. It's not a "safe alternative" when you have your body constantly subjected to a poisonous stimulant 24/7. Read this story, and search others in this community with the terms "heart", "panic attacks" or "anxiety".
Looking forward to hopefully continued improvement the longer I'm off these things. Reading others accounts, it may be a longer and much tougher road than I anticipated, but the memory of those severe symptoms is much stronger than any cravings for a nicotine buzz.

What does MK Ultra, 'You'll own nothing and be happy' WEF slogan and Nicole Kidman have in common?
"There will be in the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it."
Julian Huxley, brother of Aldous (best known for his 1932 novel 'Brave New World'), was the first director of the United Nations (UN) Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He was also the President of the British Eugenics Society.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a set of international development goals from 2016 to 2030, which was adopted by the UN Sustainable Development Summit held in September 2015 which built on the success of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Sustainable Development = The Great Reset!
The Huxley's are one big satanic clan. Julian was one of the big promotors of transhumanism. Thomas Henry Huxley was one of Darwin's elite buddies, defending his satanic evolution theory hoax and was nicknamed 'Darwins Bulldog'.
In 1956, Julian Huxley’s relative and MKULTRA Australia coordinator, Leonard G.H. Huxley, was elected to the Council of the AAS and he became Vice-President the following year. During this time, the headquarters of ASSA were located on the grounds of the ANU in Canberra, which Leonard was the Chairman of. ASSA was also influenced by the Carnegie Corporation and the pro-eugenics UNESCO which Julian Huxley founded. The ASSA council met with the heads of UNESCO Australia in October, 1956 and worked together to decide the direction of their eugenics program in Australia.
Strehlow would go on to contribute the ‘Aborigines Project’ at ASSA with contributions from MKULTRA Doctors Ronald Taft and John Phillip Sutcliffe. The project was headed by Charles D. Rowley who was a founder and principal of the previously mentioned intelligence front, ASOPA.
Leonard G.H. Huxley also supported weaponized anthropology outside of the AAS. In 1965 Huxley was the head of the Australian Fulbright Scholarship program at USEFA, which transferred MKULTRA doctors between Australia and the USA. In that year, Huxley accepts an application for a Scholarship from Dr. John D. McCaffrey from Stanford University. One of McCaffrey’s references was Gregory Bateson, a founder of the CIA and Project MKULTRA.
McCaffrey’s proposed research outlined a visual approach where he would record feedback from Aborigines in the form of their artwork.[19] This study mirrored an unethical MKULTRA experiment by U.S. Military Doctor, Alexander H. Leighton at the Japanese War Relocation Center at Poston in the Mojave Desert.[20] Both studies aimed to learn about the concept of feedback which is important in understanding human personality. The role of feedback was discovered in a brainwashing experiment at McCaffrey’s Stanford University.
The Institute of Psychiatry at Maudlsey Hospital – A base of Australian MKULTRA operations.
In 1936, Julian Huxley’s friend Julian Treveleyan, took part in a mescaline study at the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) at the Maudsley Hospital in London. Trevelyan’s son suggests Julian Huxley tipped him off about the experiment. Julian Huxley’s brother Aldous later wrote ‘The Doors of Perception’, which detailed his experiences after taking mescaline. Treveleyan and the Huxley’s were distantly related as he later married the great-granddaughter of Charles Darwin.
Much of the IoP’s pre-WW2 finance came from the Rockefeller Foundation which enabled an exchange of doctors between the Maudsley and Nazi Germany. The IoP was originally a competitor to the notorious Tavistock clinic until it came under Tavistock control when the British Army & Intelligence crowd, including Dr. John Rawlings Rees and Eric Trist, started operating out of here. Julian Huxley later promoted the work of Dr. Eliot Slater at the IoP. At this point in time, Slater was the Vice-Chair of the British Eugenics Society and had a long history of working closely with MKULTRA Doctor, William Sargant.
From the late 50’s onward, the IoP was the home of MKULTRA Sub-project 111, directed by Dr. Hans J. Eysenck. According to the book Undiscovered Paul Robeson: Quest for Freedom, Maudsley Hospital was the “staging ground for European and African MKULTRA operations”. There is evidence that strongly suggests it was also a staging ground for Australian operations.
As Dr. Peter W. Sheehan explained, Prof. John Sutcliffe was the driving force behind MKULTRA Hypnosis research coming to Australia at The University of Sydney through his connections with Martin Orne. Prior to this, Sutcliffe was in contact with Eysenck who was Director of Subproject 111 at the time. Eysenck was an influential member of the British Psychological Society and so was an Australian Army Psychologist, Donald W. McElwain, who had carried out psychological experiments at Maudsley in the early 50’s. It’s no coincidence that McElwain was the President of the Australian Branch of the British Psychological Society at this time (1958-1959).
While Eysenck had influence over Sutcliffe, Wendy A.F. Thorn was a student in Sutcliffe’s department studying hypnosis and multiple personality disorder with MKULTRA Sub-project 84 Doctor, Frederick J. Evans. She would later engage in research financed by the Australian Branch of the British Psychological Society (with assistance from Eysenck) at Leonard Huxley’s Australian National University, before travelling over to the IoP to begin research with Eysenck himself.
The funding that helped Martin Orne establish Sub-project 84 at The University of Sydney was recieved through the Human Ecology Fund, specifically under a project titled, ‘Attitude Formation, Decision Matrices’. Eysenck also recieved his Sub-project 111 finance under the same title. It seems that both Sub-projects 84 and 111 were related and both had influence over Australian operations.
In 1975, Dr. Martin Seligman went to the IoP at Maudsley on a ‘sabbatical’. It was here he was introduced to Eysenck and worked with IoP staff to study phobias and obsessions while developing his Learned Helplessness theory which later became the basis of the CIA’s 2001 torture program. Dr. Stanley Rachman was at the IoP at this time and he had published studies with Seligman that helped to develop his theory. Seligman’s work at the IoP was in the same year that Kidman was involved with Learned Helplessness research on sheep in Australia. In 1977, Eysenck gave a lecture at The University of Sydney on his Australian tour.
Other Australian Maudsley connections are apparent from William Sargant’s involvement at the hospital. It was Sargant that had influence over the serial killer and MKULTRA Doctor, Harry Bailey. Dr. Ardie Lubin was based at the IoP until he left to study with Dr. Jacqueline Goodnow at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.[53][54] Shortly after these studies, Jacquline Goodnow and her husband Robert would be working with Dr. John Gittinger at Psychological Assessments Associates (PAA) – before coming back to Australia in 1972. Their official association with PAA didn’t end until 1974, around the same time Fiona Barnett alleges Gittinger was in Australia working with Dr. Antony Kidman.
Nicole Kidman recently created the ‘Dr. Antony Kidman Scholarship in Health Psychology’ at the IoP. This could only be a coincidence if you have your eyes wide shut…
In March this year, Nicole paid a visit to the IoP (now the IoPPN) to create the ‘Dr Antony Kidman Scholarship in Health Psychology’. This was made in memory of her father who died less than a month after MKULTRA Victim, Fiona Barnett, complained to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) about Antony’s abuse.
In that complaint, Fiona alleged that Antony Kidman and Australian Theater Legend, John Bell raped her at a party in 1984 at the Kidman Family House in North Sydney. Fiona also alleges that Nicole witnessed Antony physically assault her the morning after while shouting, “Do you remember, now?!” until Fiona said “No.”. Fiona suffered from Multiple Personality Disorder (or Dissociative Identity Disorder) as a result of abuse like this.
Possibly due to her real world experience, Nicole later played a psychologist in ‘Batman Forever’ who specializes in Multiple Personality Disorder.
Australian Positive Psychology & Buddhism conference has multiple links to the CIA.
Since 2006, a series of yearly conferences that jointly promote Buddhism and Positive Psychology have been held in Sydney. They’re called the ‘Happiness and It’s Causes’ conferences and the chief organizer is the Dalai Lama (via the Vajrayana Institute). The Dalai Lama is a well documented CIA asset with a long history of financial support from the agency.[60] Interestingly, the first conference was held in the Sydney Masonic Centre. The featured line up usually includes a mixture of Positive Psychology promoting psychologists, Buddhist scholars, monks and a few Australian Broadcasting Corporation employees. These journalists and media figures promote Positive Psychology, Buddhism and other attendees in their own time.
In 2008, CIA Doctors Seligman and Kidman attended the conference and gave talks which promoted Positive Psychology and its potential role in education.[63] School Principal of Geelong Grammar, Stephen Meek, was also in attendance and he was also selling the idea of ‘Positive Schools’. Meek was the first School Principal in Australia have approved the program. In 2015, Meek told the Child Abuse Royal Commission that he was more interested in protecting his schools reputation than exposing pedophiles existing within his school.
Two CIA assets promote Positive Psychology & Buddhism at a conference in Sydney.
Kidman’s emissary, Dr Sarah Edelman was there in 2007 with the Dalai Lama. (You can find Edelman’s meditation CD’s for sale at the Theosophical Society. Meditation can lead to mania, depression and psychosis.) Australian False Memory Association Advisor & Associate of Dr. Martin Orne, Dr. Graham Burrows, was also in attendance.
Another 2007 speaker was B. Alan Wallace who is an expert in Tibetan Buddhism from Stanford University. Wallace works on the on the Cultivating Emotional Balance project with CIA & Military psychologist Paul Ekman and his daughter Eve Ekman. The Dalai Lama is a strong supporter of this project, having played a crucial role in its creation in 2000. Another speaker to be at the conferences was Bob Carr, who is a previous attendee of the Bohemian Grove and a CIA supporter.
This years event headlined Eve Ekman.[78] She’s the daughter of former Chief Psychologist of the United States Army, Paul Ekman who owns the Paul Ekman Group, which has worked with the CIA and FBI. Eve works for her father’s group and so does an, ex-Secret Service, ex-Army Interrogation & PSYOP expert, Paul Kelly, as the Director of Law Enforcement and Security workshops in the USA.[81] Vice-President John Pearse is also connected with intelligence, working for the Anti-Terrorist Branch at New Scotland Yard in London and he has been responsible for the design and delivery of a number of counter-terrorism seminars.
In the late 1960’s, Paul Ekman worked alongside The University of Western Australia (UWA) on weaponized anthropology in Papua New Guinea.[83] At this time, UWA was a hub of MKULTRA research with Prof. Ronald Taft making use of his CIA money in similar studies. Interestingly, Ekman’s research was on the exact same tribe that Dr. Leonas Petrauskas, Dr. Vin Zigas and Dr. Carelton Gadjusek had focused their MKNAOMI linked research on. Ekman’s finance for this study came from the Advanced Projects Research Agency (ARPA) and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
Just a year after working with the Dalai Lama to create the CEB project, Ekman was approached to join the CIA’s torture program that started at Martin Seligman’s house. Ekman denies joining the program, however he does admit his research assists interrogators. The Ekman Group offers training to detect lies and analyse body language which becomes useful for interrogation and mind control purposes.
Could Positive Psychology be MKULTRA Mind Control?
The term ‘Positive Psychology’ was coined by MKULTRA doctor, Abraham Maslow to describe his work. Albert Ellis was the “unsung hero of positive psychology” and gave a seminar at the CIA’s Esalen Institute in the 60’s to demonstrate his original work. Albert Ellis was influential in the careers of CIA Doctors & Positive Psychology pioneers, Dr. Martin Seligman and Dr. Antony Kidman.
Dr. Aaron T. Beck is the father of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which was developed with Ellis and helped to form Positive Psychology.Beck was a Military Psychologist at Walter Reed Army Hospital who also went on to influence Seligman and Kidman. Beck ended up on the Advisory Board of the CIA’s False Memory Syndrome Foundation, having been personally invited by the head of MKULTRA Sub-project 84, Dr. Martin T. Orne.
In 1998, Martin Seligman introduced Positive Psychology in his first address as President of the American Psychological Association with his fellow APA member, Dr. Antony Kidman in attendance. Three years later, Seligman would use his life’s research to develop the torture program with the CIA and SERE (Survival, Evasion and Resistance and Escape). SERE is an organisation which was developed using MKULTRA research from the Kubark Manual and the Phoenix Program.
Positive Psychology is continuing to make its way into the Australian School System. In the 2015 Keynote Address of the Positive Schools Conference, Toni Noble, an attendee of the Happiness & it’s Causes Conferences and a lead author of the pro-paedophile ‘Safe Schools Framework‘, quoted the current director of ASIO and his desired need for ‘greater social cohesion’ to combat ‘youth militant extremism’. Noble proposed that Positive Psychology was the best way to achieve this objective.
“American Soldiers Brainwashed with Positive Thinking.”
A major red-flag against the introduction of such a program into schools would be the fact that the U.S. Military paid Seligman over $30 million dollars to create the ‘Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program’ in 2008. This program was a blatantly unethical research project that used the guise of a fitness program to hide its true intentions. It effectively threw away the soldiers right to informed consent and turned them into human-guinea pigs. In this experiment, soldiers were taught to how to think and respond more obediently with the aid of Positive Psychology, rather than use their own critical thinking. The U.S. Army admits the purpose of this was an attempt to make an ‘indomitable army’.
One component of the program was ‘Spiritual Fitness’. This inappropriately forced the idea that religion was essential to achieve better mental health. Positive Psychology promotes Buddhism from within its own core tenets and just like the conferences in Sydney, this seems to be an attempt to blur the lines between Eastern philosophy and Psychology.
In his criticism of Seligman’s Positive Psychology, Dr. Kirk J. Schneider has shown that high levels of positive thinking correlate with Positive Illusion, which distorts reality:
“What the researchers don’t help us to understand-and what will be essential to understand if we are ever to substantively broach human vitality-is how positivity ratios also appear to correlate with destructive human tendencies. For example, a growing body of research appears to suggest that what the researchers call high positivity-a disposition to pleasant, grateful, and upbeat feelings-is also correlative with a dimension called “positive illusion” (relative inaccuracy regarding reality); and that negativity (or what is generally characterized as mild to moderate depression) is correlated with relatively greater accuracy concerning reality. These findings, moreover, also appear to square with recent correlations between highly positive people and suppressed psychological growth, inability to self-reflect, and racial intolerance.”
When we have a thought and behaviour modification program being implemented into schools that was designed by an MKULTRA Doctor and used for the purposes of mind-control by the CIA and the U.S. Military – organizations which have both been behind the largest mind control operations in history to be used on innocent civilians – it seems obvious that it might not actually be trying to improve peoples lives. Positive Psychology and Positive Schools will only serve to further reduce the ability of people to critically think and understand reality. These negative effects are consistent with the goals of the eugenics project we know as MKULTRA.

2024.05.17 07:01 No_Opening1746 Considering Moving to Memphis

I am considering moving to Memphis from Charlotte in the future. I currently live with my parents and just finished college with a programming degree. I don't have a career job yet, but I could transfer with the company I am currently at to a store in Germantown. Zillow pre-qualified me up to $103k on a mortgage with my current salary.
My parents want me to stay close, but housing in our area is horrible for the budget I have of $50k-$103k. I am paying for this with the help of my future husband, once we've married. I have built up a savings of almost $20k by living at home and being extremely frugal and never going out to eat or shop at the mall. I would be using $10-15k as a down payment. My boyfriend would probably be able to put the same amount down as well. I have an almost 800 credit score I have been building as well.
I started looking by state on Zillow and found a lot of decent houses in my budget in Memphis in comparison to other cities in TN or even other states, such as VA, NC, and SC.
I know the crime rate is high in Memphis, but how high is it in comparison to Charlotte? I currently live in the suburbs, so I only notice stuff happen when I drive into town. I know common sense to always lock your car door, don't go out at night, and avoid sketchy areas( I am a young female, early 20s), but is that enough to stay safe?
Is your car generally safe from break ins if you only go to work and stay at home? I have a mid-range car that I worked very hard to pay for and pay off and I am worried about damage to my car and accidents, etc. I was nearly killed by a drunk truck driver last year on the way to work last year, so I take extra precautions to drive and park safely.
I will be getting married soon and will need a home of my own, and Memphis seems to offer the most value for livable starter homes. I am considering having children in approximately 7-10 years depending on the economic climate. Are the schools decent, or should I consider homeschool or charter school?
Is Memphis a good place for newlyweds who stay at home all day and play video games and watch movies, and only go out to go for work or a small weekend trip?

I WILL NEVER ACCEPT CRYPTO. For many reasons. I also would warn users against using crypto to make purchases. If you ever are scammed, money sent through paypal, venmo, cashapp, zelle etc almost always ends up in a bank account that can be traced. There is some level of accountability. The same cannot be said for crypto (also physical cash, money order, for the sake of thoroughness). There is my two cents. Thanks for listening to my ted talk. Sale below:

2024.05.17 03:09 Run4theRoses2 " I strongly Believe Gps will achieve its End Point" Dr. Tsirigotis who treats nearly 10% of the actual Phase 3 trial patients, - Unblinded, FDA Registrational Trial Results are now Due

- Literally will be any day now.

Phase 3 Immunotherapy Trial Results Imminently Due - and we already know the outcome. The quote above, Jan 3rd 2024 from a doctor who treats nearly 10% of the imminently due phase 3 trial patients.
Current short, manipulated market cap: $57M. 65M shares float 100m all in.
  • A Fda greenlight for Gps immunotherapy, to treat 25,000 AML remission patients each year, is worth Multiple billions.
  • The Phase 3 Regal Steering Committee said the Unblinded Results are Imminent
  • Unblinded Phase 3 Fda registrational trial results are now due, the whole market, is about to find out what a few already know.
SLS began the GPs Immunotherapy Phase 3 REGAL Trial for Secondary AML Remission patients in Jan 2020, two months before the Global Pandemic closed every blood cancer clinic on the planet for 16 months. Covid cost SLS tons of time and money.
Then in Nov 2022, SlS disclosed trial results would be delayed another year because "patients were living 2 Fold Longer than projected", All pooled OS is about 16 months and more than double the required OS for Fda approval. Short interests have held a grip on SLS Share price knowing sls would need to raise cash. Their time is now up

It's been a Long Road and now at the Finish Line.

The chair of md andersons leukemia dept., leading the steering committee says to expect the p3 results any day now, based on data review cutoff March 1, 66 patients had discontinued treatment due to relapse or death, these patients who relapse refractory to AZA Ven, aka Best Available Treatment for the Control arm, have a Max Os of 2 to 3 months, its May 16th. The 60th Patient death triggers the unblinded analysis for statistical efficacy. Gps has built in Pre approval per the SAP, all Gps needs for the fda green light is 12.6 months of os - its close to 24.
Gps immunotherapy is about to get approval to treat 25,000 AML Remission patients. The CCo published $260K Per Patient Pricing Comps - a $6B TAM for this Sub 100M nanocap.
Gps Phase 3 Unblinded Results are now due - any day now - (along with 009 Phase 2 data Due in Q2 SLS's Second Asset) data that brings it up to the same point as $kura and $sndx are, both 2b companies, worth nearly 2B.
Imminently Due. This QUARTER
Jan 3rd, from Dr. Tsirigotis who treats nearly 10% of the Regal p3 patients
  • “REGAL study is for patients in second or beyond second remission and just to remind these patients have an extremely poor outcome because the median survival is in the order of 5 to 7 months... the majority of hematologist prefers to use as BAT the combination Aza/Ven which is a toxic combination and its administration is associated with negative consequences that I briefly mentioned before' And again...'GPS administration is very easy... “
  • “ I am not allowed to give you much more detail about the efficacy because of the confidentiality agreement, but I can say to you and I would like to thank Sellas, because I have enrolled personally more than 10 patients into this trial and I can say to you that GPS is an extremely safe drug and I did not see any systemic toxicity...our GPS patients have an excellent quality of life...l strongly believe that GPS will reach the primary end point of this study, but please allow me not to give anymore other details to you and finally I just want to say to you that if..., which I strongly believe and I eagerly await for the results, but if... and I believe so...if the GPS shows the expected survival advantage then you can imagine that it will revolutionize the field of AML treatment because then we have to anticipate that this drug will be used for cr1 and post stem cell."
18 months deep into the P3, Dr. Kantarjian, the Chair of MD Andersons Leukemia Dept., who's running the trial, and sees actual patients, requested Expanded Access to Gps for aml patients in primary aml.
Dr. Yair Levy, the Dir of Hematological Research at Baylor Medical, stated point blank, control patients on best available treatments have an os of only 6 months.
Dr Jamy, who also treats actual REGAL P3 patients stated os for control patients is only 6 months.
Assume these Drs are correct, Dr Jamy (look up his published papers ) control arm os of 6 months, Dr levy the Dir of hematological research at Baylor Med. said os for az ven cr2 is only 6 months, Dr. kantarjian the Chair of MD Andersons leukemia dept., running the global p3, treats actual patients requested expanded access to gps, and of course dr tsirigotis who treats almost 10% of the p3 patients, stated os for control arm patients is dismal, 5-7 months.
Assume they are correct - then Gps os is about 24 months - given we know all pooled os, control + Gps is about 16 from the Regal update.
I expect we will see multiple trading halts, in pre, and a gap up at the open into the 14.47 range -just about a billion in market value on the way to a 6-8b buyout. The fda green light just for the 10,000 aml patients in second remission opens up a $2.6BTAM - big pharmas trade at 4x price to sales -- this alone is worth 9/10b max value.
When the imminently due P3 result is announced - this quarter - in Q1 - its a binary result, 12.6 months of os for gps w bat at 8 and its a done deal. Gps is getting the fda green light, instantly adding billions in real market value for shareholders. It will be impossible for the short team to manipulate the share price when it's known beyond a doubt gps will be generating billions in revenue.
Very rare to have an Imminent phase 3 trial result and even more rare to already know the outcome.
  • The kol call is still linked in the jan 3rd corp update.(below) From the Dr. who treats nearly 10% of the Regal p3 patients “REGAL study is for patients in second or beyond second remission and just to remind these patients have an extremely poor outcome because the median survival is in the order of 5 to 7 months... the majority of hematologist prefers to use as BAT the combination Aza/Ven which is a toxic combination.."
Again for context: we know from the Nov 2022 Regal Update, all pooled phase 3 regal patients have an os of 16 months.
All pooled, meaning control arm on bat and Gps patients combined have a median os of 16 months. Dr. T just said his control arm patients have an os of 5-7, which means Gps patient os is about 24, close to the statistically significant P2 results and nearly double what is required for fda approval, per the nov sap.
2019 - Phase 2 Follow up results for AML Remission patients on Gps Immunotherapy achieved Statistically Significant Overall Survival of 21 months.
From the Phase 3 Trial Launch January 2020
“We are excited to begin this late-stage Phase 3 program with GPS in AML. Earlier studies have positioned this agent to be a potentially effective approach in prolonging survival by delaying or preventing recurrence in patients in complete remission, most of whom harbor measurable residual disease and have a poor prognosis if they are unable to undergo allotransplant. We are hopeful that this new immunotherapeutic vaccine approach will improve outcomes in this patient population, which is at a very high risk of leukemic relapse,” said Hagop M. Kantarjian, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Leukemia at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and principal investigator of the upcoming Phase 3 AML clinical development program. Sale below:

2024.05.17 01:57 Ridtom Amy Was Not Born Bad (With citations)

I've been hearing people saying that Amy is an example of a character being "born evil" or "ontologically evil", because her being a sexual predator must mean that Carol was right.
Which is bizarre, because Worm and Ward both show that Amy was just a normal kid dealing with emotional abuse and fucked up dependency, before she leapt off the slippery slope.
So I decided to prove this with a collection of snippets from the Parahumans series showing that the entire point of Amy's character is that she was someone who was a normal child in the first place:
And yes, Carol was singling her out even pre-Worm.
Eric retreated into the living room, plunking himself down into a chair, slumping down so his arms were up on the armrest, feet on the floor, and his upper body stretched along the seat, chin against collarbone.
He looked at us without moving his head.
"What's up?" I asked.
He shrugged.
"How's she doing?" I asked.
He shrugged, then mumbled, "There were some days she was really scary. I had no idea what she'd do. Mostly now she's… extra teenager-ish, I guess."
He sighed, dramatic.
"It's tough being the odd one out, isn't it?" Amy asked. She was sitting on the short couch beneath the window, feet curled up beside her, a folded book in her lap.
"Really tough."
"Do you want to talk about it?" Amy asked.
"Nah."
"You can reach out to us anytime," Amy said.
"Okay. Thanks, I guess."
He got up and pulled a controller out from under the television. He flipped the switches to turn the TV and console on, and it "Thwooomed" with the console's startup sound.
He held out a controller, offering it to Amy and me.
"Reading," Amy said. "Thanks though."
*
Amy took a second to pull a throw blanket down from the back of the couch and toss it over her legs and feet, before picking up her book.
I walked around the end of the couch, leaning over the arm, my head parallel to hers as I read over her shoulder.
"You're distracting me," she said. Her head moved, frizzy brown hair mashing into my face as she butted her head lightly into mine.
"Who's Roaraxia?" I asked.
"Do you want to read this after I'm done?" she asked. "Emphasis on after?"
"Depends. Is Roaraxia cool?"
"She's the bad guy, and yeah, I guess."
"Is the good guy cool?" I asked.
"No," Amy said, sighing. "Almost never, in books."
"In your books, maybe."
"It's the appeal, isn't it? Peasants, criminals, orphans, they get a chance and they become cool by the end of the book."
I snorted, got up, and took my seat at the other end of the short couch. I stuck my feet out and wormed them beneath Amy's blanket.
"Your feet are cold," Amy told me, kicking me in the shin.
"So are yours," I said, grabbing the corner of the blanket and pulling it away from her foot. "Now they're colder."
What ensued was like thumb wrestling, feet kicking at and pushing against feet in a battle for control. She wasn't trying very hard, though, because she had her eyes on the book. The battle was less about the feet and more about me trying to get her attention as much as she tried to avoid giving it to me.
"You need to shave your legs," Amy said. "It's like sandpaper."
"Gross," Eric said, not taking his eyes off the game.
"It gives me the heebie jeebies," Amy said. "Like the squeak from markers on a whiteboard, or sneakers on the gym floor."
"Tiny hairs, sticking in the underside of your feet," I teased her. "And when you walk, you're walking on them and pushing them in deeper…"
She pulled her feet away like I was on fire, and shivered visibly, putting her book down. My victory.
I kept going, "And when they grow, they're pointed in the wrong direction, so they grow in…"
Amy made incoherent sounds of protest.
"I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way," Eric said.
"It probably doesn't," I said. I let my head loll back onto the armrest behind me, no longer fighting with Amy. "We're supposed to take a science class next semester."
"Chemistry, biology, or physics," Amy clarified. "We got the sheet in homeroom. Also art, music, or drama."
"Same. What did you pick for science?"
"Chemistry. Physics is the advanced kids' stream and is supposed to be hard, and in biology you might have to dissect frogs. No thank you," Amy answered. "Ick."
"I thought there would be some parts of it that are useful for health and fitness, first aid."
"You're thinking about cape stuff," Amy said.
"Naturally."
"And I bet you picked drama."
"Art," I told her. "At least for the one year. I'm not very good at it, but there's emblems and icons, color mechanics, costumes, poses and posture…"
Amy snorted. "Of course. I picked art too, mostly by process of elimination. So we might be in the same class."
"Cool."
*
"We wanted to talk with you because of what happened to Crystal," Aunt Sarah said. "Based on what's happening elsewhere, and how Carol and I both got powers, we wanted each of you to be aware of what might be coming down the road."
"We'll get powers," I said.
"Probably," my dad said. "Possibly. I know you know the answer, but… do you know how?"
"Trigger events," I said.
Amy spoke up, "This is like having a math whiz in the class, putting her hand up every time a question is asked."
"I'm not that bad."
"It's more serious than math class," Uncle Neil said. "Eric, do you understand about Trigger events?"
"That's the day you get powers?" Eric asked.
"It's what makes you get powers. It's a very important moment."
"One of the best or worst days of your life," I said.
"It can be," my Uncle said.
"If you want it to be a good day," my mother said, "The best thing you can do is be a good student, a good athlete, and the best person you can be. Strive for things and then accomplish those things."
"Great," Amy said. "I'm doomed."
"But," Aunt Sarah said, and it sounded like a sentence. She gave my mom a look. "As far as we can tell, it's rare. You should absolutely try to improve your chances, especially Victoria and Eric. The powers seem to run in the family, and getting a 'good' trigger would help reduce the chances that you get a bad one-"
"We don't know if the chances are as high for you, but it would behoove you to get your grades up, Amy," my mom said.
"Great," Amy said, making a face.
"I've been urging you for some time to join a club, a team, make your own friends. You have too contained a life."
"That's not what we're here to talk about," Aunt Sarah said. "Again, yes, I think it would be good to focus on success, but we should be prepared for the other cases. If something happens, if you have a really bad day and you get hurt or scared or angry, then it's possible you could have a bad trigger event. And it's hard. Right now, Crystal is going through a lot. Neil, me, Mark, Carol, we all went through it."
"All bad?" Amy asked.
"Yes, Amy."
"What happened?" Eric asked.
I braced myself, ready for my mom to shut it down.
"Your mother and I were kidnapped," my mother said. "They kept us in a dark basement for a long time. And then they tried to kill us."
I blinked, my head swimming as I absorbed that. Things made sense now. I had so many more questions.
"Neil had the accident, which you know about" my Aunt Sarah said. I knew. They'd met in the physical therapy after. Her for a riding injury, him for his trigger. "Mark-"
"I was on a boat when we were attacked," my dad said.
"The point is," my Aunt Sarah stressed, "we need you to be aware that this is a thing that happens. Very often, when we get powers, it isn't always easy, fun, or great. We need you all to be gentle with Crystal, not to pry, not to pressure, give her space, and let her handle things in her own way."
I felt frustrated at that, yet I couldn't say anything. They were saying this because I'd been asking her questions before.
"As you grow up, and we bring you to more events where capes are present, it's important to remember that many of them have been through the same," my mother said. "It's a question of courtesy and cape politics."
I nodded at that.
"It's not just others. We need you to be gentle with yourselves," Uncle Neil said. "Be prepared and be aware. When Sarah triggered, she hurt people, badly. I did the same."
"And I took a life," my mother said.
My eyes widened at that.
There was a pause, a break in the flow of conversation. And it was my mom, wearing a sweater, her hair long, looking much like a mom, with sunlight coming in from the window, and I could see it in her eyes. The fact that she had come to terms with that.
"…We weren't going to mention that," Aunt Sarah said, indicating Eric.
"I almost killed someone too," Crystal said.
I wasn't sure how to even imagine that. I wasn't sure Crystal could even imagine it, from the look on her face.
All I knew was that some sketchy people had recognized her and followed her off the bus, running after her when she ran. I only knew that much because my mom had told Amy and me to be extra careful, and had insisted she or dad drive us if we went anywhere.
"They're mad, now, apparently," Crystal said, hugging her arms to her body. "They want to get revenge."
"Often the case," my dad said. "Bad begets bad."
I could tell that my parents' approach to things wasn't really jibing with how Aunt Sarah had wanted to approach it. A little too serious when Eric was three years younger than me and Amy.
"It might happen to you," My mother said. "Chances are the time it happens won't be a time you're capable of being your most rational, but that makes it all the more important that you make resolutions and understand things now. There's a good chance that when you're facing the worst day of your life, you might be in a position to do irreparable harm to someone."
"I don't think I'm the type."
"I didn't think I was the type either, Amy," my mother said. "That makes it easier for the moment to catch you off guard."
"It's not all fun and games," my dad said. He met my eyes as he said it.
Aunt Sarah opened her mouth, like she wanted to say something… but she couldn't refute the fact.
"If I could go back-" Crystal started. She stopped, aware that every set of eyes was on her. Her eyes moving so she wasn't looking at anyone at all, she went on, "-I wouldn't do it again. I wouldn't want these powers."
"I'm so sorry, Crystal," Amy said.
Crystal shrugged.
"That's crazy," I said.
"Victoria," my mother's voice was stern. "We were just talking about sensitivity."
"But she can- you can fly, Crystal."
"And every time I do, it feels a bit like I'm still running away from those people," she said.
"That's a reality for many of us," my aunt Sarah said. A woman I'd associated with warm hugs, pumpkin cookies, and all of the cool 'my relative is a superhero' stuff without the 'also my parent' crap, except now she was talking from a place of darkness and hurting people.
"I hope I never get powers," my sister said. I saw Crystal nod.
"I saw scenes from our childhood. Stuff to do with mom, Uncle Neil, and Dean. You were there."
"Fucking up?" she asked.
"Nah," I said. "Just there. Talking about Roaraxia and fantasy books."
"The talk," Amy said. Still without turning around.
Dot crawled up Amy and perched on her shoulder, sitting backwards so she could watch me. Wearing purple overalls with no shirt.
"Yeah. The talk. I'd mostly forgotten."
"I didn't. I couldn't pick up another book in the Roar series without thinking about mom getting on my case in front of everyone. Amy with no friends, no hobbies, she's small."
I looked at my mom. My mom was frowning.
I was no stranger to distorted thinking. Even before… before everything, I'd been swept up in it. As a child, wanting to belong to my family, being the odd one out, until I got my power. I'd later realized how lonely powers were.
The flip side of the coin applied too. Being the odd one in.
Amy had been the odd one in more than I had. Purely average in appearance, quiet, she hadn't been passionate about hobbies or about anything in particular. She'd liked movies from Aleph and when she was twelve she'd break her usual reserved, quiet composure to get way too excited if she checked the change slot of a vending machine or pay phone and found a quarter. And yet when we got to high school, she was automatically included in the group of popular students. The group with Dean, who was supposed to take over his dad's company, and with the star athletes and the star athletes' boyfriends and girlfriends.
I'd eventually looked beyond my bubble of thinking my sister was great because she was my sister and I fucking loved her, wondering why she was included in the group of popular students when she wasn't popular. Then I'd had to draw the eventual, inevitable conclusion, and wonder if I belonged to that group. Was I there just because my parents wore costumes and had flashy powers?
I'd settled in despite that. Amy had settled out- hanging out to keep me company, but not going out of her way to stick with the group. It had been easy for her to move in that direction, after I'd gotten powers. I'd been grateful for my earlier realization about the nature of the group, because it kept me real and provided a starting point for realizing where Dean was coming from, having come from money. I'd loathed it at the same time, because it cast doubt on every normal interaction.
Mark approached, stopping by a table, which he leaned against. "I remember, Amy, you hated to sit still for haircuts."
"I was a terrible child. I get it," Amy muttered.
"No, you were a wonder of a child next to the unholy terror that was Victoria," Mark told her. "And you're a fine woman now. I wish it wasn't such a hard journey to get from there to here, but I'm glad to be here with you in the present moment."
The words seemed to calm Hunter more than they affected Amy.
"You're trying to butter me up."
"You can touch me if you want to tell if I'm sincere."
"Can't. Focusing on Hunter."
"After then."
"No," Amy said. She was pacified, calmer. "No need."
She worked her way through Hunter's brain. There were triggers and flags everywhere. Certain perceptions, certain emotions, attitudes.
Hunter's power was involuntary.
"We'd give you candies to suck on so you couldn't complain while sitting in the chair," Mark said. "And on one particular visit, the last one with the candy, as you'll recall…"
Amy groaned.
"A new hairdresser came up, and she hugged you from behind, looked over your shoulder in the mirror, and she said something to the effect of, 'what would you like us to do, cutie?' She surprised the hell out of you-"
"That wasn't surprise."
"No?" Mark asked. And she could hear the change of tone. He rallied, "But you choked."
"I did choke."
"And you gagged," Mark said, his tone warm. "While you were trying to dislodge the candy. I was thumping your back. And then you threw up, onto the barber's bib, and it wicked straight down onto your shoes."
"I can't believe the world ended and I'm still hearing about it."
"You were inconsolable."
There's obviously more, including how in Worm, Amy single-handedly save the hostages in the bank fight from Skitter. Or how she feels gross about the idea of making people pay for healing.
Amy became a monster, but she was NEVER born bad.

Sister-in-law told me my wife cheated while on vacation
The players in this drama. My wife who for the purpose of this post shall be called Anne (female 47). My sister-in-law (female 40) who we shall call Shannon. SIL's cheating partner (male mid 40s) known hereafter as Tony. And myself (male, so close to 50 that I can reach out and slap it). We shall refer to me as "me". Usual disclaimers of cell phone and English is my first language, I just suck at it. So my wife had to travel to her step father's house. He is in very poor health, and she went there to help set up home heath. She was there for a week, and we were in constant contact. Her sister is a drunk and a drug addict. At several points during the visit, we were on video chat when "Shannon" came into the room where my wife and her father were. She was buck ass naked, raging drunk. In front of her father. I was mortified, and I'm sure he was too. Now "Shannon" is married, but separated. She has a live in boyfriend. "Tony" is my father-in-law's primary care giver. For the flight home, "Anne" missed her flight. "Tony" was driving her to the airport. There was an unusual amount of road construction, and they arrived late. She had to take a different flight. Not a big deal. After she was home for a few days, the following text exchange happened between me and Shannon. Shannon: they fucked. Me: who, and did you film it? We could make a fortune on pornhub! Shannon: I saw him leaving her room and smiling. You know she didn't miss her flight! He ain't denying it. Me: well, if they did, he's the luckiest man alive.
Now guys, I know that I have a better chance of creating a fart powered personal jet than this story has of being true. It's just not in her nature. That said, damn that woman to the depths of Detroit's South side for putting the idea in my head.
So, the question: how do I deal with a crazy drunk 80lb woman from 1000 miles away. I can't block her, because the rest of her family has. If something happens to the father-in-law while Tony is at work, I'm the only one she can contact.
Tldr: drunk SIL claims wife cheated. She didn't. I have to decide how to deal with her.
Comments
Indianblanket
Tell Tony you are blocking Shannon and to please contact you directly with any updates he receives from Shannon while he's at work.
Block Shannon.
Call Dad daily.
EdgeCityRed
Yeah, I had a former friend like Shannon: a heavy drinker, mental issues (no offense intended to people dealing with mental issues, but this was the main factor in that case), major liar who'd fixate on specific things to lie about.
I did block this person in every conceivable way but I can't think of anything else to do in your situation but ignore the behavior since you have to be in contact. OR, you and your wife could just talk to Tony about the father-in-law with the understanding that if Tony quits being the caregiver or breaks up with Shannon, he passes your contact info to the next caregiver. If something happens when Tony is at work, he'd still probably know before you.
Anyway, you have nothing to worry about with the wife anyway; you're too funny to dump.
\too funny to dump. I have a host of exes that would strongly disagree. Unless you meant funny looking. Then, they would come down solidly on your side*
Update 1
Several months ago my drunk of a SIL (f-40) told me (m-50) that my wife of 12 years (f-47) cheated on me while setting her her step dad's home health in Detroit. I, of course, didn't believe her. A lot has happened since then. First, we all went up for Christmas. While we were there, SIL (I called her Shannon in the original post) stormed in and claimed that my wife was having sex with her boyfriend "Tony" on the front porch. Two problems with that. 1) It's Detroit in December so it's cold as a well digger's ass outside. 2) my wife is in the chair next to mine. SIL ended up assaulting Tony right after I returned home. She ended up in jail where she was placed on a 3 day psych hold. Apparently being a drunken meth addict makes you crazy. Who knew? Mid January, my father-in-law passed away. This sent SIL into a spiral. Especially when she found out that she couldn't stay in the family home anymore as it had to be sold. She was given $35,000 from her father's retirement to get a new place and hold her over until the sale of the house. My wife and I drove up to prepare the house to go on the market. Y'all, I've been in nasty houses before, but not like this. My father-in-law kept this place immaculate. Now, in just 2 months, it qualifies for an episode of Hoarders. There is dog crap halfway up the walls in the den. I didn't even know dogs could poop that high! There were several empty bottles of $350 tequila in the living room. We figure that she will have drank her entire inheritance in six months. We had to rent a dumpster for me to shovel all of her garbage in to. Obviously, I changed the locks and garage door codes. Im a career garage door installer, so that part was easily done. Even more obviously, all those people who responded to the original post that my wife cheated were VERY wrong. Edit: the dog is a chihuahua. We assume that it did it's doggie business off the back of the couch, since we had to move the couch to find what was causing the smell. We can't take the dog because SIL refuses to see us. TLDR, Wife, who I knew didn't cheat even though her sister claimed she did, was exonerated because her sister is batshit crazy from meth and alcohol.

Sir, given that she is an alcoholic with a meth addiction, I would assume that that was not dog poop on the walls. Alcoholics tend to have issues with their digestive system and meth and alcohol mess with judgement and a person caring of they pooped on the wall.
Good luck with the house, and I'm sorry that your SIL is making things so much more difficult for you during the loss of your wife's father.
Elfich47 If she making meth in the house, you may need a decon team to clean the site up.
She doesn't make it, just uses. We know this by the amount of dealers that FIL had to chase off
Update 2
I mentioned in my last post that my Father-in-law passed away. From insurance and his retirement both of his daughters received $104k before taxes. We paid our taxes up front leaving us just over $80k. We really don't have much debt, so we put it all on our house. My SIL however chose to accept a lump sum. In the update, when she had gotten the first installment of $35k, I said she would have drank it all in 6 months. Apparently I am a very optimistic man. She has drank, shot up, and snorted the entire $104k in less than 3 months. Through most of the high times, she sent my wife incredibly awful texts claiming that her dad never loved her. Technically it was my wife's step-dad. One of the claims made was that if he loved her he would have adopted her. SIL was too young to remember, but he did try. Her birth father wouldn't sign off on it. Anyway, she is out of money. My wife is getting around a dozen slurred phone calls a day begging her to let SIL sleep on our couch. That is a giant HELL NO from us. We expect to hear any day that she has been found dead.
TLDR: SIL blew her entire inheritance on drugs and alcohol. Now after insulting my wife for months, wants to live with us.

Sounds like you have a head on your shoulders. SIL sounds like a nightmare. Money can wreck a family if it's not handled carefully, I've seen it happen several times. People live like there's going to be a big payout at the end, or like they deserve something.

Do you think in 3 months OP will be back on here cause Anne took the 80k and ran off with Tony?
80k is gone. It went on our mortgage. As for Tony, he disappeared when the SIL ran out of money.
Marked as concluded per OOP.
No brigading, no harassment.

2024.05.16 20:13 HRJafael Deerfield Planning Board OKs Hamshaw Lumber expansion

An extensive addition to Hamshaw Lumber’s South Deerfield location can move forward following the Planning Board’s site plan review and stormwater permit approval this week.
The New England hardware store is seeking to construct a new 12,245-square-foot building at 14 Elm St., adjacent to its existing building at 16 Elm St. The new lumber storage and sales warehouse space will go on land Deerfield swapped with the company, which allowed the town to go through with its extensive Leary Lot project.
“Generally the site plan for this project is pretty simple,” said Jeff Squire, a landscape architect and principal of Berkshire Design Group, who also worked on the Leary Lot with the town. Along with the extended store space, Hamshaw Lumber is also going to add new spaces to the front of its building, extend its gravel parking lot and connect a rear sidewalk to what will be the public sidewalk of the Leary Lot.
Ken Hamshaw, president of Hamshaw Lumber, said business at the front of the store will remain largely the same, as “cash-and-carry purchases” will be done in the front, while larger purchases can be loaded into people’s vehicles behind the building.
The new building, said architect Erica Rioux Gees, will be designed to fit in with Hamshaw Lumber’s other locations and will conform to other designs located in South Deerfield, as the building is a “gateway project” that greets drivers as they turn off Routes 5 and 10. “It will completely fit in with the scale of the town center,” Rioux Gees said, adding that the building will “follow that same vocabulary and use the same materials, the same trim details,” as the company’s other stores.
Planning Board questions on the site plan were limited, although there was a brief discussion on the stormwater permit and if the board should pursue a peer review of the proposed system.
The company is proposing three drainage areas that will take water from the proposed building’s roof, part of the existing roof, and the surrounding area of 14 and 16 Elm St., which will all flow directly into the existing Elm Street drainage system.
“It is a 12,000-square-foot addition, there is a lot of water,” said member Rachel Blain. “I feel like it’s very well presented and I know they’ll be good neighbors, but it is a big project.” Building Commissioner Robert Walden and Planning Board Chair Denise Mason said the proposed system will be effective, especially given that Berkshire Design Group worked on the Leary Lot.
“I didn’t think it was that complicated,” Walden said. “And seeing as how Berkshire Design did the Leary Lot and seems to be thinking of the two of them together … I have confidence in them, but ultimately it’s your decision.”
Squire added that the town abuts Hamshaw Lumber on three sides of the property and Berkshire Brewing Co. is the abutter on the north end, and they “feel comfortable in the system that we designed to accommodate that runoff.”
“We’re certainly capturing everything and then some,” Squire said. “It’s pretty robust in terms of how much water we’re capturing.”
The Planning Board opted to not have a peer review conducted and unanimously approved the site plan review and stormwater permit.
