2024.05.21 19:29 Sweetness-honey-1122 My mom is pressuring me to cook but i’m not ready

I’m 17 , a junior entering my senior year and my mom has been pressuring me to start cooking since i was 15. She says she wants to me to start cooking for her because she were my age she was cooking everything and she should no longer cook for me since i’m old enough but that doesn’t seem fair. as a mother isn’t that her responsibility to cook for her child and take care of the child until they are of age? like isn’t that what you signed up for?. I’m already so stressed out with school, college, jobs and trying to make time to take care of myself i just feel like learning how to cook would put more stress on me. I can learn how to cook at any age and time in my life why does she think it’s mandatory for me to start learning how to cook now because when she were my age she knew how to cook. If she wanted me to cook so bad she should have done that from when i was younger. Any advice on what to do ?
(Side note: i can cook breakfast and premade things but she wants me to start cooking big dinner meals and im not ready plus i dont feel comfortable doing anything around her she’s always saying something negative)

2024.05.21 18:50 Known_Record573 Pre-Made Meal Service

Any recommendations for GF premade meals? I’m on month 6 since diagnosis, still getting symptoms. I’m thinking eating out on the weekends even at “safe” restaurants may be the culprit. Anyway I’d like to just do a weekly order of meals that I can just heat up. Not great I guess but I don’t have a lot of time and I spend my weekends at my bfs who has a roomate that makes messy glutenous food. TIA

About the 7th Ranger Group [7R]

We are an international Arma 3 Milsim community officially founded in 2016, with roots dating back to 2013. We are based in Europe, with members from all over the world. As a community we strive to overcome challenges together by coordinated team play. To achieve this we rely on planning, communication and deployment of adapted military tactics and procedures. While we aim to provide an immersive, realistic experience, fun gameplay is not forgotten.

Our take on Milsim

We apply military procedures to establish a coordinated and team play focused environment. This does not mean realism at all costs. While we do not utilize an extensive rank structure, respecting the ingame chain of command is required, as well as following standard operating procedures and having adequate discipline. Communication and capacity for teamwork are crucial.
To ensure an immersive experience we regulate equipment and use first person view only. We use a modified ACE advanced medical system. Furthermore, we do not have an extensive ORBAT or dedicated roles. In general all specialized roles are entrusted to members who are capable of fulfilling them, supported by our diverse qualification system. While we are mainly a light infantry unit, we dynamically integrate a wide range of other assets into our composition based on mission requirements.

About our operations

Our Expectations

We are looking for mature people who share our enthusiasm for overcoming challenges using tactical team play. We do not expect any previous experience and will gladly support each new member with a will to improve on their journey forward.
With our training pipelines, we provide an accessible environment for both experienced and inexperienced players. Every new member will undergo a training program which teaches the required individual skills as well as our standard operating procedures, ensuring a smooth transition into our unit. At the end of a trial period, each Recruit has to complete our Infantry Qualification Course to become a full member.

Requirements

About mods

We, like many other units out there, use a collection of mods to improve and expand the base game. Some of these mods have been further customized to better suit our needs. Size of the modset is currently around 70 GB, and we use Steam Workshop to distribute and keep it synced.

How to join

Please read the general information and then fill an application on our Discord. Once a Recruiter has reviewed it, he will contact you through Discord and invite you to our Teamspeak to have a chat. If we are what you are looking for and vice versa, you will get further access to all the needed resources to be able to join our operations.

2024.05.21 17:30 Scoutron Procedural Maze Generation

I’m working on my 3D maze test, and I’ve run into a problem that’s making me consider moving to semi procedural maze generation with premade rooms and halls.
I am currently making tiles that create rooms and halls, with cubes acting as walls, floors and ceilings. The last major issue I’m running into other than way too many tris is that corners in hallways have a little divet from where the cube corners don’t quite meet. Stretching the cubes out a little to touch in the code almost always results in texture stretching and clipping on the non corner end.
I have no idea how to fix this, and any help or input would be good, including links to working code or just telling me to move to semi procedural.

2024.05.21 16:47 fifi_edits Is Pesto Keto-Friendly?

Pesto is a nutritious sauce and condiment available in many tasty variations, but is pesto keto-friendly?
Yes, traditionally prepared pesto is low in carbs and can be a great way to add depth of flavor to various keto recipes.
Discover the benefits of regularly incorporating pesto into a ketogenic diet and learn how to make the best Healthy Keto® pesto recipe.

What is pesto?

Originating from Genoa, Italy, authentic pesto sauce is crafted from simple ingredients, including fresh basil leaves, garlic, parmesan cheese, pecorino cheese, pine nuts, olive oil, sea salt, and pepper.
The name pesto comes from the Genovese word pestare, which means to pound or crush. It depicts the traditional method of preparing pesto using a mortar and pestle to combine ingredients.
Here are common ingredients used in different pesto varieties.

Common herbs used in pesto

The original pesto recipe, Pesto alla Genovese, exclusively uses Genovese basil as the primary herb due to its unique sweetness.
Basil is a delicate herb, and using the mortar and pestle instead of harshly chopping or blending with a food processor slows down the oxidation of the leaves. This not only helps preserve the sauce's vivid green hue but also enhances its flavor and aroma.
However, pesto has evolved to encompass a broader range of ingredients.
Here are some other common herbs used in many pesto recipes:
In addition to herbs, many pesto sauces incorporate ingredients such as arugula, spinach, kale, lemon juice, or tomatoes.

Common nuts used in pesto

Similarly, some recipes replace the traditional toasted pine nuts with other types of nuts to add a unique twist to the classic dish.
Here are some commonly used nuts used to prepare pesto:

Is pesto keto-friendly?

Traditional pesto is low in carbohydrates and contains less than one gram of net carbs per tablespoon. This makes pesto an excellent keto-friendly option that offers impressive flavors.
However, since there are many different pesto variations, it’s crucial to read labels to check that there are no added sugars or hidden carbs that could interfere with ketosis.
For those following Healthy Keto, a low-carb diet that focuses on nutrient-dense whole foods, checking the ingredients list is essential, as many pre-made pestos can include potentially harmful additives and preservatives.
Watch this video to discover the health and nutritional benefits of basil.
Amazing Health & Nutritional Benefits Of Basil

4 health benefits of pesto

Authentic basil pesto combines several superfoods high in nutrients, offering many potential health benefits.
Here are four reasons why you should incorporate more pesto into your meals.

1. Anti-aging properties

Research published in Frontiers in Nutrition shows that healthy fats, particularly the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids found in olive oil, can improve brain function and help reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
These fatty acids are also vital for supporting eye health and contribute to healthier skin by improving skin barrier function and hydration.

2. Supports the immune system

According to a study published in Foods, Genovese basil is particularly rich in polyphenols, including rosmarinic and caffeic acid.
These health-promoting compounds have been linked to potent anti-inflammatory effects that support immune system function and may lower the risk of chronic diseases.
3. Potential anti-cancer effects
Key ingredients in pesto, including basil, garlic, and olive oil, are exceptional sources of antioxidants that may help lower cancer risk.
Antioxidants can counteract the effects of free radicals, thereby preventing oxidative stress, which is linked to cellular and DNA damage, a leading cause of cancer.

4. Promotes digestive health

Parmigiano Reggiano, widely considered the best cheese for pesto, contains digestive enzymes and beneficial gut bacteria, also known as probiotics.
Probiotics help maintain a healthy gut microbiome essential for nutrient absorption, digestive health, and overall well-being.
Research published in Food Technology and Biotechnology found that Parmigiano Reggiano also contains oligosaccharides, which act as a prebiotic food source for beneficial gut bacteria.

Store-bought vs. homemade pesto

Italians will be the first to tell you there's no comparison between store-bought and homemade pesto sauce.
Pesto is a delicate sauce that’s best consumed fresh, as its flavor and quality can deteriorate quickly, becoming bitter and dull as the enzymes released from basil oxidize.
To help extend pesto’s shelf life, store-bought versions often contain preservatives and additives that can negatively impact the flavor and quality of the sauce and may harm your health.
Additionally, many store-bought pestos will substitute critical ingredients, such as extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), cheese, or fresh garlic, with cheaper alternatives or omit them entirely, leading to a bland or unpalatable flavor and a significantly lower nutritional value.

How to choose the best store-bought pesto sauce

Homemade pesto sauce is always preferred, but if you don't have time to make it, the best premade pestos can often be found in the refrigerated section.
Look for pestos that don't contain artificial preservatives or low-quality ingredients, such as sunflower oil or potato flakes. Instead, opt for certified organic and non-GMO products that use high-quality oil and real cheese sourced from grass-fed and pasture cows.

Keto-friendly pesto recipes

If you're looking for a way to add extra flavor to your keto meals, look no further than pesto. Chicken, fish, steak, and most vegetables pair exceptionally well with this tasty and versatile sauce.
Here are some delicious keto-friendly pesto recipes:
To complete your pesto experience, try experimenting with keto pasta recipes.
Zucchini noodles, keto gnocchi, and keto egg noodles are excellent low-carb pasta alternatives that work well with keto pesto sauce.

Tips to make the best pesto sauce

Here are some tips on how to choose the best ingredient to make a nutritious and flavorful pesto at home.

Parmesan cheese

Opt for authentic Parmigiano Reggiano, an Italian staple that’s been in production for over 900 years.
Known for its rich, nutty flavor and granular texture, Parmigiano Reggiano undergoes a meticulous aging process and adheres to stringent production standards, ensuring its authenticity and superior quality.
The Parmigiano Reggiano standard guidelines underscore a commitment to natural production, prohibiting additives and ensuring cows are fed local forage.
This approach not only guarantees the cheese's premium taste but also preserves essential nutrients and probiotics.

Olive oil

Select only pure cold-pressed EVOO. Many olive oils on the market are diluted with cheaper oils that compromise flavor and can introduce harmful ingredients that may negatively impact your health.
In addition, evidence published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition summarizes, "phenolic content of olive oil is reduced by chemical extraction and refining."
By prioritizing cold-pressed EVOO, you ensure your olive oil is rich in flavor and health-promoting properties.

Fresh Genovese basil

Harvested during early growth stages to ensure optimal flavor, Genovese basil is the prime choice for making basil pesto.
As Dr. Berg explains, "Basil has some amazing health benefits. It’s loaded with vitamin K, manganese, and flavonoids, which can help support healthy bones, blood clotting, and skeletal health while offering potent anti-inflammatory properties.”

2024.05.21 11:16 redsoapterminal3 I’m tired of trying to sleep.

This is just me rambling and venting. I’m going to preface this with the fact that I love my LO. I’m so grateful to have her. She’s everything I wanted and I would do it all again. I’m blessed to be home with my LO. Mostly due to the fact that my whole paycheck would go towards daycare. So might as well just stay home with my baby, right?
My LO is a month old, and a Velcro baby. I’m so sick of trying to sleep. Every ounce of free time is spent trying to sleep. I’m so sleep deprived and bored. I can’t fix being bored because then I’m more sleep deprived. If I do something to alleviate feeling bored then I lose the 1 to 3 hours of sleep I can sometimes get. Every minute of every day and night is spent taking care of LO, trying to get a meal, clean up a bit, get a shower, brush my teeth, or sleep. Mostly unsussesfully on all accounts except (I hope) taking care of my LO. I’m tired, depressed, and bored.
My lovely husband works an extremely demanding job for not a lot of pay. It’s the nature of where we live. We are saving to chase a better cost of living/sallery. He does what he can. But mostly I’m on my own. He tries and constantly apologizes for being useless because he can’t stay awake on his days off. I always tell him he’s doing exactly what I need him to do. There isn’t a budget to make things easier by buying premade food, a house cleaner, babysitter ect. The help I do have from family I use to catch up on sleep. I’m so bored it’s fueling my being depressed. I miss going to the gym with hubby, I miss grocery shopping, I miss my hobbies, I miss feeling human. This is such a big adjustment, I’m holding out for that 3 month mark everyone talks about. Heck I lost sleep to just write this post. I’m gonna hope LO sleeps a bit longer and try to join her in dream land.

As an avid fan of DIY beauty products, I recently stumbled upon Lankiz's DIY Lash Extensions and couldn't resist giving them a shot. These lash clusters are perfect for anyone looking to achieve the full, wispy look without the hefty price tag of professional salon extensions.
The C+D mix curl provides a great variety of lengths - ranging from 10mm to 16mm - which allowed me to create a subtle yet dramatic effect that perfectly complimented my eyes. The softness and lightweight feel of these lashes were a pleasant surprise, making them comfortable even after wearing them all day long.
There was only one downside: I found the band on some clusters to be slightly wider than I would've liked. However, this minor inconvenience was easily remedied with a pair of tweezers and a steady hand.
Overall, Lankiz's DIY Lash Extensions turned out to be an excellent addition to my beauty collection, offering professional-looking results at home without breaking the bank.

I've been trying out these Ultra-Large Capacity MillyBest Lash Clusters and I must say, they've been a game-changer for me. The 384 cluster lashes resemble eyelash extensions, making them look super natural. The C curl gives a nice lift, and the wispy design adds just the right amount of drama.
One thing that really stood out for me was how easy they were to apply. The super thin band and soft materials make them comfortable to wear all day long. I also love the variety of looks I can create with the different styles included in the set.
However, there were a few cons. Some of the clusters are slightly uneven, which requires a little extra effort during application. Additionally, the price point might be a bit high for some people, but overall, I think these lashes are worth the investment.
All in all, these Ultra-Large Capacity MillyBest Lash Clusters have been a welcome addition to my makeup routine. They seem to be of high quality and provide a dramatic effect without looking too over-the-top. I would definitely recommend giving them a try!

I recently decided to give the Lankiz DIY Lash Extensions a go after hearing rave reviews from friends and online beauty gurus. I must admit, I was initially skeptical about the idea of applying my own lash extensions at home, but after using these clusters, I'm officially a convert!
The first thing that struck me about these lash extensions was how easy they were to apply. The soft, lightweight texture made them comfortable to wear all day long and the varied mix of lengths offered a natural yet glamorous look.
However, there were some cons. The process of applying them does take a bit of practice in order to get the perfect curl and lift, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Additionally, the price tag might be a little steep for some, but when considering how many wears you can get out of one cluster, I believe it's worth the investment.
Overall, I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the Lankiz DIY Lash Extensions. They've definitely become a staple in my daily makeup routine and I can't wait to see what other exciting products Lankiz has in store for us beauty enthusiasts!

I recently stumbled upon the MAEXUS Lash Clusters and thought I'd give them a try. As someone who loves experimenting with makeup, I was excited to see how they would enhance my usual eyelash look.
The first thing that caught my eye was the sheer number of clusters in this kit. It comes with 240 clusters, which provides plenty of room for error and variety. I appreciated the fact that they were premade volume eyelash extensions, making the whole process much simpler and quicker.
One of the things I liked most about these lash clusters is how natural they looked. Even though I applied them myself at home, they didn't look fake or overly dramatic. In fact, they gave my eyes a lovely, fluttery appearance that was perfect for both day and night looks.
However, there were a few minor hiccups. Firstly, the process of applying these clusters can be a bit fiddly, especially for beginners. Additionally, I found that some of the clusters didn't stick as well as others, which could potentially be frustrating for first-time users.
Overall, I would recommend the MAEXUS Lash Clusters for anyone looking to add some volume and natural-looking length to their lashes. Although there might be a learning curve when it comes to application, the end result is definitely worth the effort.

I recently gave the Impress Press-On Falsies Eyelash Clusters a try, and I must say, they've changed the way I approach eyelashes. The Pre-Bonded Breakthrough Technology allows for a one-step, glue-free lashing experience—no mistakes, no mess. The Minipacks come in a range of shapes to customize your look, and I couldn't be happier with the natural and voluminous options available.
The first time I used these clusters, I was blown away by how easy they were to apply. With a few simple steps, I had perfect lashes that lasted all day. I even mix and match the styles to create a unique look that perfectly suits my mood. However, removing these Lashes can be a bit of a challenge as the adhesive used to bond them is quite stubborn.
Despite this, I'd recommend the Impress Press-On Falsies Eyelash Clusters to anyone looking for a natural-looking edge of eyelash extensions without the hassle of glue and professional application.

As an avid makeup enthusiast, I recently purchased the "Kiss Salon Quality Extension Cluster" to enhance the overall look of my eyes. The product features soft fiber extensions designed to help create a seamless result right in the comfort of my home.
Using these extensions is quite intuitive. You simply have to wait for 3-6 seconds after applying the glue, then hold the lashes in place, promoting the drying process. The end result was a salon-quality look that I absolutely adored. I appreciated the soft fiber, which made the extensions comfortable to wear, and the pre-fanned volume with tapered ends provided a natural appearance.
However, I did experience some challenges. Trimming the lashes to fit perfectly on my eyelids was a bit difficult due to their length. Additionally, the gluing process took slightly longer than I expected, making the application a bit time-consuming.
Overall, these extension clusters have become a staple in my makeup routine. They offer the perfect balance of comfort, visual appeal, and craftsmanship, making them a great addition to my beauty collection.

🔗10D Natural Cluster Lash Extensions

As a beauty enthusiast, I've tried countless eyelash products searching for that perfect, natural look. One of my recent favorites has been these 10D Lash Clusters 240pcs Individual Lash Extensions.
Firstly, the variety of lengths - 8-12mm - ensures there's something for everyone. I love how the C curl gives a flirty, uplifted look to the eyes. The thickness of 0.07mm provides just enough volume to make my lashes stand out without appearing overly dramatic. And the fact that each cluster is made of mink ensures they stay soft and comfortable throughout the day.
Another feature that stood out was the knot-free, flat-base design. It makes applying these clusters a breeze, and once they're on, they blend seamlessly with my natural lashes for a truly natural appearance. Plus, they're so lightweight I forget I'm even wearing them!
However, there's a small learning curve involved. It can take some time to get the hang of applying these, especially if you're new to eyelash extensions in general. But it's definitely worth the effort.
In conclusion, I highly recommend these 10D Lash Clusters. They provide a stunning natural look, feel incredibly comfortable, and are easy to apply once you get the hang of it.

🔗Voluminous No Glue Necessary Press-On Eyelash Clusters

I recently got the chance to try out these Impress Press-On Falsies and I must say, they've been a game changer for me! The no glue needed feature is such a time-saver, and it's so much easier to apply them without worrying about making mistakes. I love that there are different styles to choose from in each pack, so I can mix and match to create my perfect look.
One thing that really stood out to me was how natural they look once applied. They blend seamlessly with my own lashes, and I feel so confident when wearing them. Another highlight for me is how long-lasting they are. I can wear them all day and night without worrying about them falling off or looking messy.
However, there are some cons that I've experienced while using this product. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to apply them, especially if you're in a hurry or not very experienced with eyelash extensions. Additionally, I found that the applicator included in the pack doesn't always make it easy to place the lashes exactly where I want them.
Overall, I would recommend these Impress Press-On Falsies to anyone looking for a quick and easy way to achieve a natural-looking lash extension look. Just be prepared to spend a little extra time getting them on perfectly, and maybe invest in a better applicator tool if you plan on using them regularly.

https://preview.redd.it/4g6feqncsp1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62cabcc326ae55fcb87790e3aaa7688e5fe38a12
We use a medical-grade adhesive to apply cluster eyelash extensions onto your natural lashes, one by one. The process is quick and generally takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of clusters you desire. After application, you can enjoy your new fuller-looking lashes for up to 6-8 weeks.

How many cluster eyelash extensions will I need?

The number of cluster eyelash extensions needed varies by individual and preference. On average, 20-40 clusters per eye are enough to achieve a subtle yet significant effect. However, some customers may opt for a more dramatic look and request more clusters. Your technician will help determine the appropriate number for your desired outcome.

Are cluster eyelash extensions safe for my natural lashes?

Yes, cluster eyelash extensions are generally safe for your natural lashes when applied by a licensed and experienced technician. The adhesive used to bond the clusters to your natural lashes is designed to be gentle and not damage your natural lashes. However, improper removal or maintenance could weaken your natural lashes, so proper care is essential.

How should I care for my cluster eyelash extensions?

To ensure the longevity and safety of your cluster eyelash extensions, avoid rubbing your eyes, using oil-based products on or around your eyes, and harsh facial cleansing brushes on the eye area. Gently cleanse your eyelashes with a lash-specific cleanser and use a spoolie brush to comb through your lashes daily, ensuring the clusters remain evenly distributed. Avoid sleeping on your face and moisturizing the eye area before applying your eyelash extensions. These habits will help maintain the Health of your natural and cluster lashes.

Can I swim, shower, and work out while wearing cluster eyelash extensions?

Yes, you can swim, shower, and work out while wearing cluster eyelash extensions. However, we recommend using goggles when swimming to protect your eyes from chemicals and debris. After swimming, gently rinse your eyes to remove chlorine or saltwater. When showering or exercising, minimize the amount of water and sweat directly contacting your eyes to help prolong the lifespan of your cluster eyelash extensions.

How long do cluster eyelash extensions last?

Cluster eyelash extensions typically last for about 6-8 weeks, with the occasional touch-up session required for optimal results. Factors such as your natural eyelash growth cycle, product quality, and adhesive used may affect the longevity of your cluster eyelash extensions. The frequency of touch-up appointments varies based on these factors, but most clients require a touch-up session every 3-8 weeks.

How can I remove my cluster eyelash extensions safely?

To remove cluster eyelash extensions safely, visit a licensed technician to have the glue dissolved and the clusters gently removed. Do not attempt to remove your extensions at home, as it may damage your natural lashes. Regularly maintaining and scheduling touch-up appointments with your technician will help prolong the life of your cluster eyelash extensions, making it easier to remove them when necessary.

How much do cluster eyelash extensions cost?

The cost of cluster eyelash extensions varies depending on factors such as the salon, technician, location, and number of clusters desired. Prices typically range between $100-$300 for the initial application, with touch-ups generally costing $50-$150. Rates may differ between salons, so it's essential to compare prices before booking your appointment.

2024.05.20 19:25 Dchance87 Schematics Library Idea

Hopefully I am using the correct terminology. I am a beginner with CAD modeling and love 3D printing. I am wondering if there is, or at least wish there was, a way to get a library of measurements and/or schematics for different things. Sort of like how Fusion 360 has a library of screw dimensions and other standardized components list.
Simple example- I want to make my own custom magsafe phone stand. It would be nice if I could just pull a magsafe standard CAD file as a "cut tool" or boolean modifier to use. (I know this is super easy to measure and just do. Just an example).
Another example is that I would like to make another body for my SCX24 truck. Others have created amazing bodies that I have nowhere near the skill set to do. It would be awesome if there were almost 2D and/or 3D schematics to overlay for measuring cuts/holes, etc on someone else's premade body (that wasn't necessarily made to scale for rc) so it fits perfectly on the chassis. Once again, I know I can pull out the calipers and do a lot of testing.
I have dozens of other ideas that are similar as well. I think it'd be awesome to streamline 3d printing and CAD modeling work, as well as support beginners in journey.
Just a thought. If anyone has any thoughts or can point me in the right direction, if it exists, that would be awesome.

2024.05.20 19:11 KhakiPantsJake Dog kennel for a chicken run?

Hi there. I'm getting chickens soon and I saw some converted shed/dog kennel conversions that I liked for a coop/run combo. Are there any recommended brands/features I should look for?
I see some premade chicken runs on Amazon that are basically dog kennels but with chicken wire. From my understanding these aren't particularly good at keeping predators out.
Would I be better off getting one of these and putting some stronger fencing/wire on the bottom few feet for predators or just going with a dog kennel?
I live in an area with foxes/coyotes/skunks/hawks. I'll be starting with 6 hens but want room to scale that up in the future.
I'm completely new to this so if there is a better option please let me know, I am down to make my own but I'd like to keep the cost down as much as possible.

2024.05.20 17:06 Psodica After Machine Age released did anyone lose their machine portraits due to their mods?

After I bought Machine age the dlc appears to be incompatible with one of my mods. I lose all machine premade empires and when I select a machine portrait for my custom empire I just get a error (like when you make an improper selection in the race creator if you select a mammal portrait and the machine intelligence government) saying "Machine:". I am going through the process of turning off mods to see which is causing problems but was hoping on of you had the same problem and found a solution.
EDIT: It was the mod "A Deadly Tempest" which has not updated to 3.12 as of now. Leaving this up incase other people are searching on google.

2024.05.20 10:35 Zealousideal-Sign694 (Help) Newbie Server Machine; Game Servers, Virtualization, Etc.

So, in a vie for assistance in figuring out the environment for current Server PC builders/users, currently looking for user input because its NICHE ENOUGH for it to be rather confusing when it comes to CPU choice, mainly. Knowing that renting servers over the course of around 8+ years I could have bought a killer machine to host most of my needs several times over. And bare metal/full machine rentals from NFO and the like usually are upwards of $100-200+ monthly which can add up to full machine in half a year, and the sunken cost of once you eventually let the service go...
Purposes/Intent:
Spec Capabilities:
Items/Parts Observed:
I have seen the internet very iffy on new CPU's with 'E' cores and 'P' cores. Im completely new to this environment, but to keep my sanity I desire for it mainly to be a Windows 10 machine, with high single-core perf ontop of flexibility of decent clock speeds without a desire to really overclock as it will run mostly all the time, hosting a myriad of servers or VM's for either individual server management OR for self host programs.
New to this in general but I have plans to use this for a gaming community that hosts several servers along with tools for the managing staff. Also, if at all possible, I would like to set up an all-access way of accessing said PC via me or friends I trust to maintain and develop said servers. I know a simple program like Teamviewer may work, and I know an FTP setup if devs/staff have their own environments is also a way to access.
The one SLIGHT issue with such a build is I wouldnt know where to even begin to make this PC DDOS/hack safe, though I know that is a networking kind of worry.
If you can help me, please do. Though I know this is a very specific niche of server building and touches on server security when, for the most part, I see mostly people talk of homelabs/NAS on here.
Thanks in advance! :)

2024.05.20 04:33 jan_andrea Anathem book nook -- looking for filler ideas

So, I posted a room box of Daniel Waterhouse's office last year, and I'm back again making another Stephenson miniature. This time it's an Anathem-themed book nook. I have a premade book nook, I've used my laser cutter to make different styles of "stained glass" cutouts in some of the panels, and a resin printer to make a tower that will be seen in the far distance (via the included mirror). I've made a small cubby section that I'll fill with small rolls of paper, and plan to hang a bolt, chord, and sphere in the space below it. There's a space that I'll make into a chalk hall. The windows I've made include a stylized analemma, the geometer's proof, and Hylaea and the triangle, as well as some more basic stained glass looking ones. I've also etched the overlapping circles from the music CD above the opening to the chalk hall.
So, I feel like it's a good start... but I want it to feel more lived-in and definitely include more easter eggs for the book. Where I'm stuck is kind of on materials. I have a ton of fabric, so the bolt shouldn't be an issue. Also a lot of thread, and I'm thinking about braiding some gold thread to make the chord. I'm not sure about the sphere, though. I feel like a marble with some element of glow in the dark or in an unusual material would be cool, though I don't want it to look like a toy. I'm trying to figure out how to make little tire sandles as well.
What other elements would you add? I'm limited in space at this point, but will add whatever I can. Oh, and to make it more fun, I have a deadline: our wedding anniversary next weekend!

2024.05.19 21:53 x-Katiebug Peppermint mocha cold brew

I've been seeing a lot of posts on here about how smelling peppermint oil helps some people with migraines(although, if you haven't tried it beware because it is ironically a trigger in others). I personally have not tried oil for smelling because I can have a pretty sensitive nose while in the thick of a migraine and am pretty confident it will only make things worse. However, Peppermint mocha creamer which is usually only available during the holiday season still hasn't gone away yet in the grocery stores around me for some reason.
My past few migraines I've been trying it out in cold brew based on seeing people here praise it, and holy cow does it feel good. Definitely doesn't make it go away but while I'm sipping on it, it gives me the exact cooling effect on the roof of my mouth that I didn't even know I was itching for on top of a little caffeine boost.
For those who are caffeine sensitive, peppermint milkshakes have the same effect, with the added bonuses of soothing nausea as well as the ice cream being available year-round. Unfortunately haven't tried out any alternatives that are dairy free in case anyone has migraines and lactose intolerance, but I'm sure you could mess around with mint extract in cold drinks or try iced peppermint tea.
Anyway, just wanted to share in case it helps anyone else. Also, little side note: if you buy premade cold brew(I like Stōk) it does have significantly more caffeine than regular hot coffee which can be counterproductive to my migraines. I personally just add a little water and some extra creamer so I can dilute the caffeine without reducing the amount of liquid gold I can drink

2024.05.19 21:49 YuppieRobocop Help, I’m a mid-20s foodie who has failed FODMAP elimination multiple times

I tried to do low fodmap last year, and made it 3 weeks before I quit. I started trying again this year, and would say I have been 90% compliant with low fodmap for the past month, but I’ve cheated 1-2 times a week. I am making all my own food low fodmap and bringing lunch to work (typically eat in the cafe). I bought some FODY products which have been hit or miss, but help with convenience. I am using the Monash app.
I’m struggling with a few things - 1) time and thought required for meal prep - I work 50-60 hrs a week so there isn’t a lot of time for daily cooking, which means I’m spending my whole Sunday on this 2) free food at work (lunches, donuts, ice cream) 3) meals out with friends (new to Seattle, still trying to make friends, and hard to turn down invitations) 4) cravings, specifically for garlic, it’s my favorite food :( 5) I’m a huge foodie, and my relationship with food is based on emotion not sustenance (come from a family of cooks, diner owners, bbq judges, so I associate food with love and stress relief - which I understand isn’t healthy but it’s hard to change)
I have really severe bloating and pain, and was diagnosed with SIBO last year from breath test. I did xifaxan but it didn’t really help, and tried a bunch of supplements with a nutritionist. I look like I’m pregnant every time I eat. I don’t have a GI doc here yet, so I’m doing what I can on my own.
Any advice on setting yourself up for success? I want to do this, but I’m struggling a lot. I’m wondering if ordering premade meals would help me or if it would just make me sad. Getting a private chef to do my meal prep seems extravagant, although would maybe raise my compliance rate.
Thanks for the advice!

2024.05.19 20:36 ShawnKestern I feel like I haven't learned the key abilities a DM should have

I don't think I suck as a DM, since my players enjoy my games and haven't complained (except for a couple of things I will get into), but I seriously find myself seeing other GMs have abilities that I just don't have and I believe I should have learned after about 4+years of DMing at least once a month.
I am playing a 5e campaing about the dream realm, where the players have to discover what is going on over there, why are the dream gods fighting and encounter "lucid dreamers", wich is basically a creature (like some of them) that has a special connection with the dreaming world. That makes those people a nexus where the two worlds collide and energy can be drawn from one realm to another. The big plot is that some gods want to destroy the dream realm, by pouring all of its energy into the material world; and some others want to destroy the material world by absorbing it into the dreaming.
My players have yet to figure this last part out, so they are just running around from town to town trying to find lucid dreamers and encounter a way to fight the god of nightmares, whom they believe is the sole villain. I have a couple others subplots, like the god of nightmares having warlocks that are also looking for lucid dreamers and other things that are not 100% related to the main quest, but still are a bit interesting to see.
My problem is that... we have been at it for almost 2 years now, they are only level 7 (leveled up last session) and have only fought a single boss, wich was a shapeshifter mage. They have aprox 500 gold and just have stupid magic items that were only introduced as a semi joke.
I should divide this between the things my players are complaining and the things I am freaking out about.
My players complained about:
Not having enough gold: I feel like this is 100% my fault, but I don´t really know how to fix it, since they are not going to dungeons or doing stuff in big cities that could get them some nice loot, + I have a hard time knowing how much gold I should give them, since finding a good loot table is kind of weird. That added to the fact that I don't have a very instinctive feel as to what they should be getting at which level (wich is something my other DM friends know how to do on the fly) makes it even harder.
Not having good magic items: This is a issue connected to the gold. Since I have almost no clue as what to give them, I don't know which magic items I should hand out, plus they are not going to a lot of places that could have magic items. And adding merchants is just falling into problem 1, wich is that they don't have enough gold x.x
Not being railroaded enough: They enjoy my sessions, but they have voiced their opinion that I should guide them more sometimes, wich I... quite frankly don't like doing and don't know how to do it without it being intrusive.
I am freaking out about:
Not knowing how to make encounters. They are absolutely demolishing every encounter ever. They are 4, paladin of vengance, monk way of the astral self, bard college of spirits and sorcerer aberrant mind. I go to dnd calculators, I make sure all of them are deadly and are more than 3 enemies and they still blast through them like it's nothing. I make sure to count HP correctly, always noting resistances and pack tactics and so on, but they still demolish them. I have watched videos, read the monster manuals, I even made a "colliseum" wich was just combat with them so I could try monsters and they could try builds, and even there they were just demolishing the encounters.
Not knowing how to "railroad": I have told them what to do (find more lucid dreamers), so they have to go out and look for suspicious things at different towns. There they found the shapeshifter's subplot and are now figuring out that some of the lucid dreamers are conjuring creatures, monsters from their nightmares into the real world as they sleep (just like some of them have been able to, like the college of spirits bard or the echo fighter that later became the paladin). My plan is to lead them to find the elven king is a lucid dreamers, and his nightmares and paranoia regarding his kingdom is materializing weird stuff. However, I feel like I have been too slow to introduce this stuff and I agree with the fact that THEY don't have much of a direction other than "go around, find shit and just hope that we find something".
Not knowing how to pace or structure sessions: Usually I plan a combat per session, even if the oportunity doesn't present itself in wich case I just save it, and some NPC's with a storyline that is happening in town, but when I look at my notes...
Not knowing how to make settings: I just find that my towns are empty, my monsters are boring and there is no fun in this world except for the weird things my players come up with. I use premade maps for Talespire and I have a hard time making a bunch of NPC's, so I just make like 6-10 and call it a day. The real problem is that I have a hard time coming up with taverns and military places and points of interest, since they are visiting small towns.
I am just now falling into the spiral of "It has been two years and almost nothing has happened", noticing all my mistakes and comparing myself to others campaigns I have played or watched and thinking "huh, 10 sessions in and they are already lvl 6... how crazy". Any advice for any of this? Any words of encouragement? Youtube videos? Music? Smoothies combinations?
edit: spelling (english is not my native language x.x)

2024.05.19 20:22 Secret-Ad1993 I'm Working on a Game Engine. What Would Get You To Try a New Engine?

I've been writing a game engine for my game for some time now... Rather than sit down and learn a whole engine like Unity or Godot or what not, I found it much more enjoyable for *me* to write the whole engine.
It's a 2D engine and a majority of the work is done by the game and the game developer rather than the engine. Games are written in LUA and a games logic can exist entirely within one file if so desired. There is no UI for making games, and as it stands the game developer has to do everything from programming tilesets to animations, physics, etc... It's not too much work to get things like that working, but I do plan on including premade libraries for certain things as time goes on.
Development has gone through two phases at this point, and it works great for what I'm using it for. It can even be deployed to webpages. My biggest fear though is of my game failing on launch, and the engine falling into obscurity. I've had a handful of people tell me they could see people wanting to use it, and some have told me it would make a good engine for "beginners." So far though, I'm wracking my brain trying to find ways to make the decision of trying a baby game engine more palatable.
I guess ultimately my question is: What would you need to see or hear to make you consider trying out a new game engine over using one of the ones you know.

2024.05.19 13:05 OwlPlenty4828 Tabletop advice please

Good Morning /Afternoon. I am embarking on making a bar height table top for my outdoor patio furniture. I am planning on using hardwood and gluing up the boards, I’ll be gluing the boards together and using either biscuits or dowels to join the boards (depends if I get lazy and buy a cheap biscuit joiner at Harbor Freight or make a dowel jig) i plan on sealing all sides side of the wood and will be using some premade purchased aluminum legs from Amazon that will run the width of the table. I am planning on the finished thickness to be about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inch thick. The table itself should be about 32” wide and about 80” long.
The table will be outdoors in Tampa, Fl But under cover and out of direct sunlight or rain. My question is: will I need any C channel on the underside to prevent warping? And should I use the clips when I mount the table top to allow for movement ? Or will sealing, C channel etc handle that issue?
Thanks !

2024.05.19 10:12 PuckinPizza Is under 30k realistic?

My family owns a bunch of land in east texas, and I want to have a tiny place of my own down there. I live 2 hours away, and I work during the week and share an apartment with a roommate right now. I don't make a lot, but it's enough that I could finance something premade, so that's the direction I want to go.
I have no skills or experience in construction or building houses, so that's another reason I would prefer to go premade. I don't care for customization, and utilities are covered considering everyone operates off the same wateelectric/septic grid.
Are there any good options for me that is 30k or less? I've been browsing around and what's listed is either way too expensive or sounds too good to be true.
All I really care about is that it's insulated and mostly ready to go. Second most important is that it's built to last. I don't wanna invest in a 10-year loan only to have it fall apart after a few years.
I have family who are willing to help me put something together, but I don't want to burden them with a full-blown diy project. My grandpa has given us 2 scares this year and nobody can get him to slow down. If he catches wind that I'm setting up down there, you couldn't pry the hammer from his hands. Since I will only be able to help out on weekends, it would be much easier to just get something thats easy and can be set up in a week or so.
So, for the big question- are there any reliable options for me that are $30k or less?
If not, what are my options? I'm down to get creative or expand my budget. I'm just one guy and I just started looking about a week ago. I'm pretty directionless and kinda dumb lol.
Thanks in advance!
*** EDIT**** Just wanted to update to say thanks for all the feedback and comments! I'm getting a lot of creative ideas and everyone has been so supportive and nice. This has boosted my confidence in this project tenfold, so once again, thank you!
