BF was raped as a child.

2024.05.21 10:34 Curious-Pea-5782 BF was raped as a child.

IM SORRY IF THIS IS GRAPHIC, I DON'T KNOW WHERE ELSE IT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO SHARE THIS.
My bf was raped as a very young child, he doesn't remember but he's sure it's before fourth grade. He was gang raped by his teenage neighbors (he doesn't remember exactly how many were there but maybe 10-15). After that, he was then coerced multiple times into performing oral on some of them in different occasions. And even before that, he remembers his mom performing oral on him as a literal young child, even before first grade, this happened a few times too.
This all came to light when I confronted him about his porn addiction because we have been together for a long time and it was a boundary for me. He came clean to me, about everything. He became very vulnerable and told me all about these. Until now, when we talk about the rape, he gets hard. And he said he's been confused about his sexuality because he's watched trans porn too but he was too shameful about it. He said that as a child, he tried exploring anally, even up to our relationship, he admitted to using my sex toy on himself once. He's been thinking about those experiences and saying that maybe he enjoyed it and maybe it felt good to be abused (?) Last night he was thinking about being penetrated and masturbating at the same time. And he was so turned on by that.
I guess I'm wondering if this is normal? Or is this even his real sexuality, or how do we even start figuring that out?I don't even know what I'm asking but maybe I just need to share it with others as I can't share it with anyone in my life because he says he will take these experiences to the grave. We love each other, but I don't know. This all confuses me so much. I don't know how I could help him and we could not afford therapy (we live in a third world, very patriarchal country), I know that's what he needs to process all of these. But how can I help him?

2024.05.21 10:26 Healthy-Emotion8945 The "Six Things We Learned...Swans Edition, HERE IT IS!"

The "Six Things We Learned...Swans Edition, HERE IT IS!"
1) Mature Swans fixing problems within the quarter Swans started in dicey circumstances with Carlton kicking the first 4 goals within 14 minutes of the game and being dominated at the centre bounce. Previous editions of the Swans could have easily been blown apart or slowly reduce their deficits quarter by quarter leading to a slog fest of a game. But this year is different and the Swans are a much more mature and confident team as a whole. Not only did the Swans stabilised the damage which kick started their turn over game, the midfield group began their own dominance in stoppages leading to the Swans scoring 3 goals within a space of 4 minutes. Whilst the Swans were still trailing at the end of the first quarter, the momentum had truly switched to Sydney showing how far the team has progressed.
2) Swans set the example in the 3rd (Premiership) quarter Much has been spoken about the Swans' ball use, speed and turnover game; however, it was their stoppage work in the 3rd quarter that completely blew Carlton apart. Sydney finished with an impressive 51 - 13 points from stoppages with their centre bounces produces 31 points compared to Carlton's 4. The Swans had a 10 minute patch where they completely blitzed through the Carlton midfield which included a classy finish by Wicksy and most importantly (DIRECTED TO THE SHAMEFUL VIC MEDIA REPORTING) he got his high fives; beautiful.
3) Jordan clamps and smashes, Cunningham gets the last laugh When [Sam Walsh]() kicked a goal in the first quarter he made sure Cunningham (who was playing on him at the time) knew about it. Sadly for Walsh, James Jordan ensured that was his only highlight of the night, curtailing his influence whilst Jordan still played an important role in in the Swans attack and kicking a goal himself. That's three weeks in a row where Jordan has successfully negated the opposition player and blanked them out of the game; Jordan's versatility to play multiple positions makes him an A grade tagger and the best distributors or drivers of offence for any team in the competition better be aware of James Jordan! Also, Cunningham admitted in a post game interview he got lost in transition from defence and found himself up forward kicking a goal and that's just so beautiful to hear.
4) Swans midfield a class above The Swans midfield is well known for its ability to score goals, their speed through general play, foot skills and frantic pressure; however, on Friday night, the midfield evolved once again through their contested work through stoppages with timely blocks for team mates which opened up space for others to charge through. By the mid point of the third quarter the Swans were not only dominating the Carlton line up, they were toying with them (i.e. Warner's run through the corridor taking cheeking peaks behind him and smiling - he had his own Lewis Jetta moment). Special mention for Rowbottom's efforts with 16 tackles overall and breaking through a congestion of Carlton players to kick a goal.
5) The rising stock value of Hayward and Florent Both players were recruited in the 2016 draft and both are having an outstanding start to the season with Hayward re-discovering his goal kicking form (he is currently 20.7 for the year) and Florent showing incredible composure to dance his way through congestion from defence and providing plenty of run and carry during an attacking play. A special mention also for Florent - he is actually the most impactful interceptor amongst the Swans (better than Blakey) all according to champion data.
6) The Swans are the number 1 attack and defence team in the competition When certain groups doubt Sydney's credentials for the premiership, its always about the forward line or the defence or basically anything they can use to say why we won't win...Well, the Swans have scored the most and have conceded the least points of any teams and these results have continued to improve after each round. Simple as that, nothing else to add - Why wouldn't you back the best team in the comp to win?

2024.05.21 09:32 marihuano69x Currently unemployed. Does it make sense to you that I'm not getting any calls right in the middle of a government change?

My third-world country just elected a new president and a new government that's going to be effective next month. This month is a transitional month, the old government is still in power and we really had a bad government, we even lost our investment grade as a company. Companies and international entities are eagerly waiting for the government change.
I'm trying to rationalize why I'm getting no calls right now. I was getting calls and interviews in late March and April but no luck during May where we had elections. Companies are actually looking at my resumee, I get notifications from my app when that happens.
Also I've had 6 different jobs in 12 years plus a stint as a freelance accountant and I'm 30. I started basic bookkeeping at 18 and I took really bad choices early in my career because I was young but I still demonstrate a career progression from staff to management stuff, do you think this is also negatively impacting my career prospects?
What are your thoughts? I'd appreciate any feedback, I'll be unemployed for 60 days very soon and I'm genuinely starting to get desperate. I'm trying to rationalize what I'm doing wrong.

This fic flows out of me way too easily, so I'm riding the waves while I can. Glad to see people enjoying it too! We continue where we left off, trying to figure out where to go, both with universe at large and with poor, lost child...
As usual, thanks to SpacePaladin15 for his own great work and letting fanfiction flow, and everyone who supported and enjoyed the fic thus far. So, let's see where this goes from now.

Memory Transcription Subject: Dr. Erin Kuemper, SETI Researcher
Date [standardized human time]: July 15, 2136
Before entering the conference room, I adjusted my dress suit. Even for official meetings, I usually just prefer simpler official outfits, but this time is different. Being invited to observe the first official diplomatic meeting between humanity and aliens, I wanted to be perfect for it, even if it was meeting the baby-eating monster aliens over a video call.
Stepping inside, I see the other people that would be present for it. Normally, as a SETI researcher, I would object to the presence of any military heads at such a meeting, on purely conceptual level, much less two. But with what we have learned I can’t help but almost feel like even entire room filled with generals wouldn’t be enough for this.
“Ah, Dr. Kuemper. Come in, take a seat. We plan to start hailing them in ten minutes.” Secretary-General motions towards one of free seats, so I take the one that’s further away from both generals. As I do though, General Jones starts talking to me.
“So, Dr. Kuemper, how’s our rescue doing? Were there any further incidents?”, she asked.
“No, not yet. She still hasn’t woken up since that last sedation. While we don’t understand nearly enough about her biology yet, drawing some parallels with biology of Earth life we can infer that while her life is no longer threatened, she will likely take a while to fully recover from blood loss and malnutrition. Much bigger problem will be communicating our intentions to her, as well as regaining her trust after... everything.”
“Is it really smart to assign Noah Williams as one of her main caretakers then?” She asked, raising her eyebrow.
“From analyzing the footage of the incident, she reacted the same way to all the humans in the room. I doubt it was Williams’ specific appearance that was the source of such intense fright. And that assignment is not just for the sake of the alien, but Williams himself. Him and Rosario are both, frankly, on suicide watch right now. They need a chance to try and do something to relieve their guilt.”
To that General Jones just hummed, before turning to the screen. I could also hear General Zhao, the Chinese general, snorting in amusement. I am not sure what he found funny about this, but I’d rather not know at all.
It wasn’t a rational call, I knew it, but if there’s anyone who can project most empathy possible towards our alien rescue, it’d be Noah. I have asked Sara if she wished to participate as well, but she struggles to even look at the child without throwing up, so for her, distancing might be for the best.
“We’re beginning to hail the Arxur Dominion now.” Secretary-General announced, standing in front of the screen, facing it. “Not sure how long it will take.”
“I bet time zones get a ton more complicated on interstellar level...” General Zhao grumbled.
Afterwards, there were long twenty minutes of silence, interrupted by an occasional cough or shuffle before finally screen shifted, and displayed the aliens. It appears they also were in a private conference room, like us. In the middle, standing tallest and looking at us was none other than Chief Hunter Isif from photos the Odyssey crew took. Behind him were two more arxur. One was similar to Isif in build and stature, though not quite as tall, and the other was notably shorter and scrawnier, with lighter scale coloration. Part of me almost assumed that was a female, before I remembered that in the data dump there were no signs of easily notable sexual dimorphism among the arxur. An adolescent then, perhaps?
“Humans. I am glad you responded to our invitation. I believe an introduction is in order. I am Chief Hunter Isif of Arxur Dominion.” The alien spoke, translators working already, translating the noises unlike anything human makes into discernable speech.
“Greetings, Chief Hunter Isif. I am Secretary-General Elias Meier. I represent the United Nations, or UN for short, a governing body meant to represent combined interests of all individual nations of Earth. Before we proceed, I need to ask. Will I not be speaking to your leader, Prophet-Descendant, today?”
That was on the agenda for the meeting, if I remembered correctly. Trying to interact with arxur other than Isif. To gauge just how far this goes. Though it doesn’t seem like it’s happening, considering Isif is the one who picked up and how now he was emitting a low hiss that almost felt like it was carrying amusement.
“No. No offense meant to you, humans, but we Chief Hunters are expected to conduct all business in our sectors on our own. You technically fall within my territory. Plus, why would I give up an advantage I have over other Chief Hunters so easily? We may not ever have war against one another, but the competition is fierce, and you might just be the edge I need to curry more favor.”
I noticed General Zhao scoffing at shameless honesty in arxur’s intentions for this ‘alliance’ they proposed in the databanks. Yeah, just use us to gain more advantage over his rivals. I can’t believe Secretary-General elected to deal with them after all.
“I see. I expected that. Still, even if we were granted an audience, our answer would have remained unchanged. Sorry to disappoint, Chief Hunter, but humanity simply cannot afford a full alliance with the Dominion.” Secretary-General spoke in neutral tone, but I could sense the strain in his voice.
The arxur on the screen had his facial features harden.
“I see. You’re still unconvinced of the prey’s threat to your unprepared world. You believe you may parlay with them.”
“Quite the contrary, we’re more than convinced and have no reason to believe you’re lying. However, while an alliance with you would grant us protection... It would also drag us into the war we wish no part of. We’re... grateful to you for showing hospitality to the crew of Odyssey, and for warning us of the threat, but we will not be diving into war we have no interest fighting.”
“You will not be able to hide forever.” Isif kept insisting, seemingly almost growing agitated. “We knew of you because they did, long before us. They may believe you dead, but all it’d take is one stray vessel for you to be doomed.”
Part of me wanted to be relieved that, despite the tense tone, the negotiations so far were going exactly as planned. Another part of me wept that we were intentionally alienating and putting distance between ourselves and the aliens. And a third part of me was disgusted at the fact that we were talking to them at all.
“Trust us, Chief Hunter, we do not plan to merely sit and wait to be discovered and exterminated. We will be preparing. We simply don’t wish to enter the fight without a good reason.” Elias continued, pushing on to the next topic. “That said, just because we don’t wish for alliance, doesn’t mean we can’t mutually benefit from one another still.”
I could see that the shorter arxur behind Isif was about to speak up, but flinched when the larger one glared at them. Isif himself narrowed his eyes at Elias.
“And what benefit do you see that isn’t us joining hands in battle for survival, Elias Meier?”
I couldn’t see his face, but I could feel Secretary-General smiling at Chief Hunter.
“Trade. Your people are, by your own admission, starving. We could provide a solution. What we lack, however, is information. In this universe, we’re blind, and just sending out probes risks discovery. If you’d be willing to supply us with intel on Federation, we’d be more than glad to relieve your hunger. Maybe not the whole Dominion... But definitely all of your sector’s arxur.”
Arxur behind Isif both slightly opened their mouths, eyes widening in almost human-like expression. Even Isif seemed to be taken slightly aback, though he composed himself much quicker, glaring at his subordinates to make them collect themselves. On our end, I could see General Zhao smirking, and General Jones tapping at her chin in contemplation, while I twiddled my thumbs nervously, waiting for rug to be pulled from under us.
“You promise a lot. Producing food in such quantities with just one planet, even if it were filled with cattle, is impossible. Simply unsustainable.” Isif replied.
“We have our ways, Isif. We solved hunger once, we can do so again. Not immediately, it will take time to ramp up production, of course... But once that happens, all you need to do is name your price in how much meat you need and we will provide. And all we want in return is information to better defend ourselves.”
There was a long pause of contemplation. When looking closely, I could see something that was either agitation... or excitement among Isif’s posse, but Chief Hunter himself remained unimpressed. Eventually he did speak up.
“Don’t think I will fall for such a trick, Elias Meier. You humans are still young, still naive to the cruelty of the universe. We were once like you, and were nearly wiped out for it. I will not have it happen to the only other True Sapient in the galaxy. I will trade information. But I can already sense what the first request will be, and you will not be getting translations for Federation languages.”
That made every human in the room except Elias tense up. I almost flinched at the accusation, Jones hid her mouth behind her hand and Zhao’s smirk turned into a frown. Only Secretary-General remained unshaken. Isif, in meantime, continued speaking.
“If you prove yourself capable of helping us, and manage to provide as much sustenance as you claim you can... I will consider it. But until then, I will not be accelerating your desire to commit extinction by Federation’s hands.”
“Then, if you need to benefit from us first before putting us at risk, we can only thank you again for your concern, Chief Hunter.” Secretary-General replied. I was surprised at how collected he remained despite the arxur completely seeing through our intentions with this ‘trade deal’. “Trust us, we have no interest in getting annihilated in antimatter fire, but we are willing to work to earn your trust. We will be sending lists of information we desire. I hope that partnership can strengthen the bonds between us further.”
“Indeed. We will review and return to you the amounts of food we will require for it. Show us what you are capable of, humans. Now let’s get this over with. Conversing like that is... tiring.”
Right. Arxur are naturally solitary, according to the databank they gave us. A species of biologically predisposed introverts...
“Farewell, Chief Hunter Isif.” Meier replied curtly, before the screen dimmed and camera light disappeared. Contact was over.
I let out a deep sigh of relief, realizing I’ve been holding it in for a while now. There... was a lot to consider about what just happened. I was told footage would be saved, so we can better analyze the arxur nonverbal cues later.
Elias turned to us and put his hands on the table.
“So, that didn’t go as bad as it could have. Any thoughts?”
General Zhao was first to speak up.
“We’ll need information on Federation tactics and weaponry. We’ll have to prepare a strong l space military regardless of whether they can be talked down, but it’s much easier to convince someone not to kill you when doing so risks their own life.”
“I’m more interested in whether there is any technology that could allow us to send spy drones into Federation space without leaving obvious trail back to us.” General Jones countered. “We might not even need arxur translators if we can decode the language via our own surveillance.”
Elias turned his eyes on me expectantly. I considered everything that happened, things Isif said and ways his presumably-lieutenants reacted to conversation, things we learned from their data bank... And it dawned on me.
“They... see us the same way we have seen them before learning of their horrid acts. First contact with someone who treats you like a person, and first people in the galaxy whom you can see as friends. We sought the stars seeking to not be alone in the universe, and while their ways are repulsive to us... It’s not true the other way. This cooperation to them is much more sentimental than it is to us. They want to be able to trust us and rely on us.”
Elias smiled and nodded at my assessment.
“Thank you for your input, everyone. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Dr. Kuemper, I hope you’re ready for tomorrow’s announcement and your promotion?”
Right. Tomorrow we’re revealing that First Contact has occurred to the public. It took a lot of effort to make it presentable without triggering mass panic, and some details will be omitted. That and I’m receiving a new position in the UN related to handling alien affairs. What a joy...
“As ready as I can be.”
“Then let’s get to it. It won’t be easy, people, but our entire civilization is at stake. We need to get this right, and in a way that won’t have our descendants condemning us.”
Right. Cooperation with arxur, this trade... I didn’t like the idea of it, but I understood. We needed their help. Perhaps through this cooperation, rather than them influencing us, reverse can be made true, unlikely as it may seem. Worst part was failing to secure any translators at all. While I’m sure generals are salivating at idea of cyber-espionage against the Federation, I just wanted to be able to communicate with the rescued child, and make sure we could properly help her recover. Still... We will do our best, even without them.
Memory Transcription Subject: Stynek, Venlil Test Subject
Date [standardized human time]: July 15, 2136
Second time I woke up; the memories came to me much faster. How I was captured during the raid. How I spent months in cattle pens. How I was used as a meal for mystery predators. How they took me with them. And how I was now in their laboratory, or whatever closest thing predators have in their feral science.
Of course, my first instinct was to try and escape, but I couldn’t. I found myself actively strapped to the bed. I was panicked at first, trying to break through the restraints, but to no effect. So I let my head fall back onto surprisingly soft pillow and lay there... Awaiting my fate. But fate wasn’t coming, and I found myself getting a bit bored. So I raised my head and examined the room.
It seemed different from the room I was in before. Most of the machinery was gone, and the only big machine beside my bed wasn’t actually hooked up to me anymore. There was a large, predator-sized closet in the corner, and two big tables with seats. Of course, there was also bed itself. If not for the fact that I was slated to be butchered on this bed soon, it’d be the most comfortable place I got to lay down on since my capture. As is... It felt like cruel irony. I felt my eyes watering again. Did predators want to taunt me? Give me this sense of near-comfort as one last cruelty?
Subconsciously I tried calling out for mom, but felt my throat burn and ended up coughing instead. I think all the screaming recently wasn’t good for it, and with how dry my mouth was it didn’t help. Looking around I spotted it. A glass of water on a small stand beside the bed! Except it was completely out of reach. I tried shifting my tail under me, to try and extend towards it, but I’d need to have the bed flipped to have the chance at reaching. They probably left it like that intentionally... Letting me feel thirst, see the answer, but not be allowed to take it, all to make me suffer more.
I attempted to shift and wiggle against the restraints some more, when it hit me. It finally hit me that my leg was gone, gone for good. Even if I could somehow miraculously break those restraints... And get out of predator captivity... And make it back home to Venlil Prime... It wouldn’t be the same. I’d never live a normal life. My vision blurred with tears again. Why couldn’t they just end it... Why did... they have to make me suffer more.
Then the door opened and my heartbeat quickened. I realized just what I asked for, and looks like the universe itself wanted to give me that. Through the door stepped a figure... No longer clad in big rubbery suit. They probably realized such deception won’t work on me. But which of predators it was made my blood freeze.
It was the same one again... The dark-colored one that was there in meeting with arxur, and when I first woke up... Why was it always this one showing up over and over? Did all those predators look like that? He was wearing different outfit, maybe it was a different predator? No, it’s too similar, it must just be... assigned to me. My personal warden. Just like the pens had specific wardens assigned to them that were in charge of picking out meals.
This is it then. They must have done everything they wanted to do with me while I was unconscious and now that I was awake to feel it, were ready to finish me off. I closed my eyes, squeezing them tightly shut as the predator approached. I lost count of how many times I was anticipating death recently, but this was it... This must be it, finally, right? Universe can’t be cruel enough to do more to me, can it?
And as I waited for my demise, with held breath I lay. And lay. And waited. Until I realized that by now predator would long be within reach of my throat. I slowly opened my eyes, and blinked a few times to get the tears out. Sight of predator right beside me made me flinch, as it sat down by the bed, looking over me with its hungry, binocular eyes. I could see its mouth, lips quivering in hunger. And yet it did not lunge... Why?! Why can’t they just finish me off already? I felt so exhausted and fatigued by it all...
Predator seemed to lock its horrid eyes with my own eye. The gaze was intense, and I felt frozen. I couldn’t move, not even a muscle, as it just stared at me and I stared back. I felt a tear roll down my face, contributing more to the clump of matted fur, grown stained with so many tears. And that’s when the predator reached its hand for my head. I closed my eyes, recoiling away to the best of my ability. I... I didn’t want it... Please... Why can’t I just wake up back home, why can’t it all just be a nightmare...
I was prepared for its claw to grasp my face, to twist my neck, to scratch at me... But the only thing I felt was a small caress right under my eye, where the tear ran, wiping it off and rubbing at clumped fur, getting bits of dirt out in process. And then it was over. There was no attack. It was just more prolonging of the inevitable. It was so... tiring. I opened my eyes again, to look back at the predator. Really look back in those cruel eyes, to try and understand why the universe would have such evilness exist at all. The binocular gaze was horrible, but no amount of my instinct telling me to flee could help when I had neither the limbs nor freedom to move. So I just looked back. Into those small eyes when they suddenly blinked. And what could only be a tear rolled down the predator’s face. This made me mentally recoil.
How? Did a predator just shed a tear? But that’s... impossible. Only creatures with empathy can cry. That’s the textbook prerequisite for crying! You need to feel things to cry! Predators don’t have that! Arxur don’t have that. We learn that since before school. One of first things parents teach their kids is always the dangers of predators. But this is... Maybe it’s something in the room? Some noxious agent irritating its eyes? Then why can’t I feel it? Is it simply copying me? But why would it do that? Can you even copy something you can’t understand, like feelings? I didn’t understand. Maybe their biology was way more alien? Their skin was naked and had no fur or scales or feathers, maybe their tears are different too? I tried to find any explanation at all, any possible answer to questions swirling in my mind, but nothing made sense. It’s like this one little tear shattered everything I knew about predators. Maybe... They were different somehow? No! That can’t be it. If they were, they wouldn’t... They wouldn’t have been ones to take part in eating me! They wouldn’t deal with arxur! It’s a trick... it must be... But tears are a sign of empathy...
“W-Why...”, I asked in my confusion. My voice came out as ragged and hoarse and I was reminded of how dry my insides felt. I glanced over to the glass at the bedside, still out of reach and now with a predator near it... I stood no chance at reaching it.
Then suddenly, the predator looked over at it as well, and picked it up. I was almost about to cry at the idea that it would drink it in front of me, taunting my thirst further. But it didn’t even bring the glass close to its horrid mouth, instead moving it towards my face. Naturally, I tried pulling back from predator reach, but still restrained, I couldn’t move much. And once the glass was in front of me, predator just tilted it and... left it hovering there.
Was it... offering me a drink? Does that mean the water is poisoned? Why else would it give me some? I didn’t open my mouth, but the predator kept hovering the glass in front of me... Clear liquid inside swishing a bit with unevenness of the movements. Tantalizing... My throat felt drier just looking at it. In the end, base instinct prevailed over reason-based self-preservation. Even if it is poisoned... I was as good as dead in this den of predators, this won’t matter, and at least I’ll die not feeling as dry as a piece of old tree bark. So I let my mouth open and I raised my head as much as I could within the restraints, putting the glass’s rim into my mouth.
That first sip was probably the most heavenly water I’ve ever tasted. It was just normal water, of course, but with how dry I felt, I couldn’t get enough as I started quickly gulping it down. The predator actually helped, tilting the glass, keeping up with how quickly I emptied it. Every gulp was a relief... It was no stale water of arxur pens. It was actually fresh water! But as quickly as it started, the happiness ended, glass fully tilted and empty. I smack my mouth, gathering little bits of moisture gathered on it with my tongue, while the predator moves the glass back onto the counter.
Well, if that had poison in it, I didn’t taste any. And if it was somehow tasteless... It was worth it. I still couldn’t wrap my mind around the predator and its actions, so instead I did my best to just ignore it as I savored the feeling of hydration. If I somehow live through this, unlikely though it may be, I will never scorn water again. Though I will probably still prefer some good juice over it...
The predator started moving again, removing the blanket-like sheet that was covering most of my body and reaching to where my restraints connected to the bed itself. It locked its eyes with me again, and this time it at least didn’t cry, but it did start to growl something. It was quiet and subdued, and of course I couldn’t understand any of it, but it didn’t lunge or reach for me directly and didn’t seem any different from earlier. Was it trying to say something?
Then I heard a small click. The light pressure I felt on my arms and chest from the restraints relaxed. Then the predator just tossed the restraint over me, revealing that they released me. I tested it by raising my arms slightly. Why...? Did they plan on taking me somewhere? I could try running but the feeling of lightness, of hollow emptiness where my leg used to be reminded me of how fruitless the endeavor would be, so I just kept laying in bed. The predator’s mouth curved in some wicked expression before they growled out some more of their crude words and got up.
They moved towards the exit, turning around to give me one last creepy staredown before stepping out of the room. And, unsurprisingly, I heard a soft click from the door itself. Right. I was just free to explore my new pen. But even with the freedom granted, I couldn’t bring myself to get out of bed. The shock of learning that a predator just shed a tear and fed me water was still too much. What is even happening?
It’s all so confusing. I grabbed the blanket and pulled it over my head, hiding in the dark. I tried to desperately convince myself to not get my hopes up, to remember what those predators did to me... But somewhere I felt like maybe things here will at least be better than they were in arxur pens. At least there’s that to comfort me. That’s right, they probably just... don’t want me to die yet because they haven’t finished experimenting on me... And the tears were just... I don’t know. It makes no sense! It’s stupid!
I let out a breath and snuggled tighter into the blanket. As long as it was dark and quiet like this, I could at least pretend that I was back home... That everything makes sense... That I am just fine... That I'll be okay...

Its design breaks out of the constraints of the blockchain, and there is no limit to the impossible triangle of the blockchain. Cryptocurrency is better than advanced ideas, but its development is slow. According to statistics from PANews, at the end of 2022, there are 1,259 active DAPPs in Ethereum, which is really pitiful. The chainless platform adopts the idea of cryptocurrency and designs a transparent and centralized platform. The external characteristics are no different from the blockchain ledger. It is also a platform that implements openness and fairness and cannot be tampered with. Only in this way can the design compete with the ease of use of Web2, be popularized on a large scale, and make the number of DAPPs jump by an order of magnitude. Chainless design has no technical innovation and uses mature technology; it has unique innovations in products, incentives, communities, and core teams. This series has 5 sections in total. One is product innovation; the second is production relationship innovation; the third is business model innovation; the fourth is the role of the core team; and the fifth is the Interesting Reads Chainless Platform.
First, Product innovation of chainless systems
Innovation in unilateral accounting methods
Projects that adopt blockchain accounting methods, without exception, use multi-party accounting and centralized ledgers. Its ledgers are all balance ledgers. The so-called balance ledger means that unspent tokens are recorded in the ledger. All improvements in blockchain are improvements in accounting methods. The purpose is to improve ease of use while ensuring the accuracy of the ledger. This accounting method is blameless as a currency issuance system, but it has two flaws as an accounting system:
  1. The fastest accounting time is no less than one second;
  2. Sky-high accounting costs.
With the Bitcoin and Ethereum systems already serving as the root of credit, it would be unwise for any application-focused project to use multi-party accounting. Because any account page can be hashed, and the hash value is on chain to the credit root, thus ensuring that the ledger cannot be tampered with. The running account corresponding to the hash value is public. Even if there is no multi-party accounting, the account book can be verified by any party and is, therefore, credible. The root of credit means that the data that enters the root of credit cannot be tampered with. Readers who have difficulty reading this can refer to “What Satoshi Nakamoto didn’t think of, what he didn’t say… Series 2: Openness and transparency are the core, but decentralization only summarizes less than half of it.” The Road to Innovation in Cryptocurrency” Series 1-11 (chainless.hk).
Account Verification
The flaw in the third-party verification of Bitcoin design is that if A transfers tokens to B, B may not receive them if the address is wrong. Bitcoin’s third-party verification is only formal, regardless of whether B gets it. As a centralized ledger, the transfer from A to B is an internal transfer of the “bank.” It is very easy for A and B to confirm the transfer. After A and B confirm that the transfer is correct, the chainless system will confirm it again, and there will be no dispute. It is very easy to achieve this improvement in Bitcoin, but there is no threshold for transfers for technicians, so they do not think there will be operational problems here.
Index general ledger to ensure ledger balance
All personal sub-ledgers constitute a reconciliation with the general ledger coin indicator, and the sum of all sub-ledger coins is always equal to the data of the general ledger indicator. This point is the point of invention and the starting point of general ledger innovation.
The hash value of the journal is uploaded to the chain
Chainless calculates the hash value of an account page in one minute, then uploads it to the Bitcoin system, and the account is made public. The transaction confirmation time is not the account page formation time but the three-party confirmation time of A, B, and the chainless system. This confirmation time is in milliseconds. It is consistent with the speed of centralized transfer systems.
Multiple signatures and multiple backup wallets
It is equivalent to the user controlling an online multi-sign project by himself. Multi-signing is more troublesome. Chainless has designed multi-signing grading, so small quantities do not require multiple signings.
Inherit
With the multi-sign and multi-backup functions, inheritance is realized by the way. The inheritance time can be modified, and inheritance can be automatically started when the time is up.
Support real-name and anonymous
The chainless data format is a public key and private key system, with real names grafted onto anonymity. If real names are not supported, it is impossible to integrate with real finance. The right to disclose privacy lies with the user.
The user controls external transfers
When the chainless system makes an external transfer, the chainless system and the user jointly control the multi-signature. If the user does not sign, the chainless system’s signature will be invalid and cannot be transferred; even if the user signs, the chainless system will not make an external transfer if the verification exceeds the user’s number of coins. When making an external transfer, the user must use his mobile phone to confirm twice.
Contract accounts and deposit accounts are not directly related
Ethereum accounts can be driven externally or by contracts. They are on the same account, which is inconvenient when designing applications. Chainless separates contract accounts and deposit accounts, allowing flexibility in contract design.
Issuance of decentralized currency DW20
The issuance principle of DW20 is the same as that of Bitcoin. It is ownerless and has no management team. It is a transaction token of a chainless system. Used to implement Bitcoin standards. DW20 is different from stablecoins. In addition to the white paper, readers can refer to series 1-4 of “Comparison of Decentralized Standard Currency DW20 with Bitcoin, Stablecoin DAI, and Standard Currency USD”. (chainless.hk)
Issue chainless system token CLY
CLY represents the value of the chainless system and is an equity token.
Advances beyond blockchain
In short, the chainless system captures the essence of cryptocurrency ideas, achieves the payment speed of centralized systems, and aligns with the views of Web3. The chainless system inherits the technical advantages of Web2, with meager accounting costs. The accounting system can automatically expand on demand, and the throughput is not limited. Smart contracts are easy to write and upgrade, and the wallet is safe and easy to use. The ease of use is the same as that of centralized wallets.
The chainless system combines the ideas of Bitcoin and hopes to become an effective payment platform and the infrastructure of Web3 to make up for the payment deficiencies of the Bitcoin system.
The chainless system began to be conceived in 2018, a preliminary plan was formed in 2019, a patent was applied for in 2020, the first draft of the white paper was produced in 2021, and implementation of the plan began in 2022. Open source after public beta. After open source, quoting the code within 18 months requires the written consent of the project team.

2024.05.21 07:28 Adept_Gene8477 I believe mewing contributes to self-hatred

TL;DR: I grew to hate how I look as a result of getting into mewing. I feel like we, as a species, were forced into an unnatural lifestyle that caused our bodies to mutate into an unhealthy ugly, mess, and now, because of Mike Mew's work, we have to feel ashamed of it.
I have a lot of things to say, and even though I understand that not all people will read everything, I feel the need to pour my thoughts out.
I am 22 years old, and unfortunately, it so happened that I learned about mewing only a few months ago. Before Mike Mew and his work gained significant popularity among Gen-Zers after the release of his “Ultimate Mewing Guide” on YouTube, I was not even aware this practice existed, which makes me regret many life decisions I made up until this point.
It’s been about a month since I started mewing and I fully believe that tongue posture and craniofacial structure have a direct correlation. When I listen to Mews’ lectures, it feels like puzzle pieces falling into place. Their theories are so logical and spot-on that you begin to question how it is even possible for orthodontics to exist for centuries, or even thousands of years, without dentists realizing that problematic teeth are not a genetic trait. How come these people still treat malocclusion in children using braces? Moreover, mewing improves breathing and can potentially prevent migraines, as those often happen as a result of palatal shrinkage.
But aside from talking about the incredible health benefits of mewing, there is no doubt Mike Mew also places great emphasis on how oral posture affects the attractiveness of one’s face. When you listen to him, it sounds like he is driven to solve the problem of prevailing “ugliness” in the modern population. The amount of work he puts into analyzing the ideal facial structure is astounding. He shares a lot of valuable information on what a person must do to achieve a better-looking face. But my question is, did the problem of ugliness exist in the first place? Do people actually see down-swung faces as unattractive? By providing the instructions on how to improve one’s appearance from the get-go his work automatically assumes that this is the case, but is it really?
While I agree with Mike on most of his theories, whenever I hear things like “A face of a mouth-breather”, it makes me feel nothing but pain, and the reason for that is mewing works most effectively for reshaping the bones in adolescents and young adults, and according to the man himself, after 25 years of age, it is practically impossible to make any significant changes by utilizing proper oral posture.
So, do women really only find men who have a chiseled jawline and pronounced cheekbones attractive? I know I am only one example, but before learning about mewing, I never identified the facial features of a mouth breather as flawed, or even identified them at all, for that matter. I considered a smaller jaw as much of an individual trait as the shape of one’s nose or eyebrows. Yes, looking back on it now, it is an incorrect judgment, as most of the time a weak jawline is a result of an incorrect oral posture and a sedentary, relatively unhealthy lifestyle, but this is beside the point. I distinctly remember having a few crushes on guys in the past who would be considered to have a weak jawline. It’s just to show you how diverse women’s tastes really are.
So why must broad jaws matter, if I was and am genuinely attracted to guys who don’t possess them? Why must it matter, if nowadays, we no longer require large masseter muscles to chew on raw meat for our survival? Why must a slight down-swinging of the maxilla be seen as an unfavorable trait if it did not get so far that it impacts one’s health? Why should the purely aesthetic aspect of all of this matter?
In my opinion, mewing and orthotropics is a wonderful field of study that should be used to spread awareness about the small jaw epidemic and dental malpractices that genuinely ruin people’s faces. It is great for preventing malformities in future generations as well as treating adults who have problematic craniofacial structures that impact their health. But unfortunately, most people, when they hear the word “mewing”, picture a magic exercise that will make them look like sexy Squidward.
I see it very clearly, mewing has become a tool that enables insecurities to grow spread, and fester.
As I stated before, prior to watching videos on orthotropics on YouTube, I was completely unaware of the fact that forward development is deemed as aesthetic perfection. And now, I often subconsciously analyze the facial structure of random people I see in public when I never did in the past. Worst of all, I started seeing my own face as putridly ugly, when in the past, I considered myself to be not very attractive, but at least not looking worse than an average person. And recently, I realized this might be something that is happening not only to me but, probably, to many people interested in orthotropics.
So, do we really care about beauty standards, or is this idea being actively pushed on us by the looks-maxing mentality? To me, personally, it looks like Mike’s focus on looks in relation to mewing not only does not help to solve the problem, but instead, it is actively creating it. Or at least, it makes it severely worse, because, even if there were people like me, who did not care about perfect jawlines before, then from now on, their numbers are going to be dropping in the near future as mewing gets more and more attention.
“You aren’t ugly, you have bad habits», Well, does pushing with all the forces of your tongue on your maxilla in hopes of getting the face of a model sound like a good habit to you? Or performing inter-oral pulling or b0ne-smashing? And also, rating and judging other people’s faces, and suggesting to undergo plastic surgeries in case they are too old for mewing, so “it’s over for them”. Are these the good habits people are talking about?
And if we do follow the logic of “Mouth-breather face = bad habits”, what will the reasons for the malformation of one’s face be? What are the things that ugly no-good modern-day Quazimodos did, that are now being used as a valid excuse for others to judge them for their physical flaws? First of all, according to Mike Mew, breastfeeding plays a huge role in the development of natural proper oral posture. (Only 34.5% of women breast for the first 6 months as of the years 2000-2008 according to this article https://www.cdc.gov/mmwpreview/mmwrhtml/mm6205a1.htm#:~:text=Among%20infants%20born%20in%202000,16.0%25%20breastfed%20for%2012%20months.)) Second, human jaws require a consistent and considerable amount of work for them to achieve good development. (Modern diet is progressively becoming softer, and more processed). And third, the human body requires a lot of physical movement, running, and walking to maintain optimal and healthy back posture, which subsequently affects the structure of the skull. (I don’t know the statistics, but nowadays, most likely most of us can’t survive without sitting at a computer for 6+ hours a day). So, do all these things look like bad habits that one can easily and consciously fix? Adding a bit of exercise to one's life can do some good, that's a nice habit! But what about all the other stuff.... What if you are approaching the age when your bones don't grow anymore?
To get to the point, I don’t understand why people should be ashamed of their appearance when the modern lifestyle is literally doing everything to prevent the healthy growth and physical development of children. Cavemen did have beautifully wide dental arches as a result of chewing on raw meat, running barefoot, and hunting wild animals, but did they also have to spend 12 years of their adolescent life sitting at a school desk, studying, doing homework, and trying to get good grades? Maybe they also produced some impressive pieces of art, music writing, etc.? Then why should we be ashamed of the fact that we did not manage to keep our bodies at peak physical performance, while also studying, or god forbid, having an extracurricular interest that also involves a lot of sit-down work and is time-consuming?
I, myself, wasn’t ever a mouth-breather! I just had an absolutely awful back posture all throughout my life because I decided to dedicate my life to producing electronic music from the young age of about 13 years, which requires an endless amount of hours sitting at the computer. And now I get to be called ugly and lazy for it. I never even played video games in my life, ever! I don’t drink and I don’t smoke, and I’m not overweight, and yet I have to hate myself and how I look?? Just because of my passion?
It feels like we were forced into this unnatural, for our species, lifestyle that causes our bodies to mutate into an unhealthy mess and yet we still have to carry the guilt and shame of its consequences.
It makes me feel awful looking at how quickly the image representing “The face of a mouth breather” vs “The face of a nose-breather” is spreading, thanks to Mike Mew. The way it labels people based on their appearance is almost comparable to a racist caricature. It seeps into young adults' minds and makes them put people into categories, even if they never thought of this stuff before.
I’m not suggesting to ditch mewing as a whole and to continue living as uneducated, unhealthy modern apes. I’m asking people to stop cultivating an environment where we focus on negatively labeling people with unfavorable facial features that they get as a result of, mostly, circumstances beyond their control and that do not carry any health risks. Mewing may bring health benefits in the form of sleep apnea prevention, but it also changes the mindset and I don't think this is a good change.

I recently got my hands on the Olympus EE-1 Red Dot Sight with Crosshair Reticle, and I must say, it has been a game-changer for my photography adventures. The EE-1 has made tracking fast-moving subjects much easier, especially during bird photography.
One of the standout features was the Center Aiming Dot. It was incredibly useful in capturing my subjects at the right angle, without losing sight of them. The ability to adjust the brightness and position of the dot was a bonus, as it allowed me to customize the settings according to my shooting environment.
The EE-1 is designed to mount onto a camera's hot shoe, which ensures a snug and secure fit. Plus, its dustproof and splash-proof design has kept it safe from the elements during my outdoor shoots.
However, there were a few cons that I experienced while using this product. Overall, the Olympus EE-1 Red Dot Sight with Crosshair Reticle has been a valuable addition to my photography kit. Its innovative features have greatly improved my ability to capture moving subjects, despite the few minor flaws.

🔗TruGlo Crossbow Scope with Unisex Camo Design

I've recently had the chance to try out the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope, a nifty piece of equipment for enthusiastic crossbow users like me. The scope's main highlight was its ability to find the range and calculate the correct trajectory for my crossbow bolts. In my experience, this feature proved to be quite handy in my local archery range, particularly for those days when the wind and temperature were unstable.
One of the things that stood out to me was the scope's robustness. It was designed to handle the harsh conditions of the outdoors, as evidenced by the sturdy aluminum body and the shock-resistant construction. This scope also offered a generous 4-inch eye relief, a feature that helped protect my eyes during those blustery hunting sessions.
The scope's lenses were fully-coated, making them highly resistant to glare, a common concern for crossbow users shooting in low-light conditions. Additionally, the durable leavespring for windage and elevation adjustments were a welcomed bonus, allowing me to finetune my shots with ease.
On the downside, one of the screws on the scope rings was stripped, a minor issue that wasn't a deal-breaker. I also discovered that the scope wasn't rated specifically for a particular crossbow speed. To achieve optimal accuracy, I had to adjust the scope manually, which was a bit tricky and time-consuming.
Regardless of these minor downsides, the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope proved to be an essential piece of equipment in my hunting arsenal. Its ease of use, durable construction, and helpful features make it an excellent choice for anyone seeking to upgrade their crossbow hunting experience.

🔗Xs R3D 2.0: Desert Eagle Night Sight for Clear Visibility in Low-Light

https://preview.redd.it/o23e146nrp1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dad494d4c3a72e8d3ca9dc85a381b70a182a8cd4
I recently had the chance to give the Xs R3D 2.0 a try in my Desert Eagle Pistol, and I must say, it has been a game-changer for my shooting experience. In low-light environments, the sight really shines, thanks to the tritium front and rear glow dots that absorb ambient light. It's been a lifesaver during those late-night training sessions, and it certainly makes a difference when it comes to visibility.
One feature I especially appreciate is the wide notch rear with serrations and anti-reflective lens. It ensures that the sight never gets in the way during the shooting process, and it also blends in seamlessly with the gun's overall design. The corrosion-resistant black nitride surface finish is another plus, as it not only looks sleek but also adds durability to the product.
However, there are a couple of downsides to the Xs R3D 2.0. Firstly, the sight is a tad bulky compared to other models in the market. It might not be ideal for those who are looking for a more compact option. Secondly, the 3-dot tritium sight picture may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a personal preference that might be worth considering.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Xs R3D 2.0 has proven to be a reliable and high-quality sight for my pistol. Its performance in low-light conditions and the overall build quality have made it a valuable addition to my gun collection. So, if you're in the market for a top-of-the-line sight for your Desert Eagle Pistol, I'd highly recommend giving this one a try.

However, the micro adjusters could benefit from a locking mechanism to prevent accidental tweaks. Also, having zero backlash would be a significant improvement, especially for precise adjustments.

2024.05.21 06:54 Buck_Brerry_609 Please help this doomed character survive the astral plane

TLDR: Student, no summer job, got good grades, decided to reward myself by trying to beat nethack. Gotten to astral twice and died. About to get to astral again but i fucked up right at the last hurdle and this character is probably fucked and if i die in the astral plane i may run into the woods. Dump at bottom of post.
So I've had a lot of free time this last month, and so I decided to try to beat NetHack since the last time I played it I was really young and had no idea what I was doing. So I've tried it out and had a lot of fun! It's way less user unfriendly than people said (although I am playing on 3.7), only criticism is it seems like the only hard part of the end game is the astral and everything else is busywork. I had a (mostly) spoiler free run get to the Astral plane, died like an idiot, had another run where I got to the astral with more spoilers, wished for a cockatrice corpse and had a bunch of wands of death. I thought reading the wiki if you stone everything except the riders, and use a wand of death on all of them except death it would be ez, then the riders shrugged off all my wands of death charges so i died again, and if I die a third time at the astral i will run into the woods and become a hermit so i can never see a computer with these demon letters ever again. Had a nice samurai going but I fucked everything up at the last minute trying to pray for holy water, didnt realize you couldn't pray after you got a gift, got smited, divine protection gone, left basically naked with -26 AC and i know im fucked 100% because i have no wishes, no genocide scrolls for purple worm shenanigans, i do have a magic marker but it only has 25 charges so I can't charge it again. Wtf do I do if I fucked everything up at the last possible moment again i will make the ocean in medusa's island irl with my tears

2024.05.21 06:26 Superslice7 Hello. Just joined. Does anyone have severe esophageal spasms?

I don’t know if I have GERD. Never had significant issues until recently. I’m 57F. I’ve had strange severe chest pain, radiating up my neck and into my jaw. I’m very healthy and the first time it happened, it was immediately after laying down to go to sleep. I figured it was a weird GERD thing and not a heart attack. The pain was severe, I couldn’t sleep, or even lay down. It lasted 12 hours. I followed up with my doc, and had an EKG, chest x-ray, and bloodwork. The only thing out of limits was a very high CRP (46). I went on with life. About a week later it happened again, only this time it was gradual, and I had other symptoms including low grade fever, fatigue, and nausea. This one lasted 24 hours. Severe pain. My doc said I should go to the ER. They checked everything related to the heart, and it wasn’t that. The ER doc thought it might be costochondritis. My regular doc thought it was my esophagus seizing. He prescribed opremizole. I didn’t want to take it, as I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last summer (IBD - inflammatory bowel disease) and PPIs are bad for what I have. So then I had the third event. Again it was gradual and lasting more than 24 hours. They had given me a few oxycodone from the ER - the pain was so bad this did NOTHING to help. I started the opremizole the next day. It’s been about 6 weeks and it hasn’t happened again. When I google esophagus spasms, it doesn’t compare very well with my symptoms. I’ve also got severe fatigue (my IBD is in remission) and my doc is going to have me do bloodwork. When this was happening, sometimes I would just get pain at my throat and lower jaw. I did have some more minor symptoms recently, but I was at an extravagant party and I drank a lot of champagne and ate spicy food. Another reason I think it points to esophagus and not costochondritis. Curious if others have esophageal spasms and what works for you. Also how do yours come about? Other than my first event, there was nothing I did to bring it on. I also want to stop the opremizole bc of my IBD, but don’t want this to happen again, the pain was that bad and LONG. Thank you for listening.

2024.05.21 06:03 Academic-Tiger4383 Exploring the Potential of Alaska Energy Metals ($AKEMF) and the Nikolai Nickel Project

The worldwide market for natural resources is a massive and highly profitable industry, valued at USD $9.8 trillion in 2022. This huge value comes from the production of essential commodities like oil, natural gas, minerals, and metals. The U.S. stands out as a major player in this market, offering numerous opportunities for growth and investment. Now it's widely understood that before a resource company can produce resources that generate a substantial revenue from its assets, it must undergo the exploration phase. But what exactly does this phase entail and what is the upside for those involved early on?
Well, every natural resource company starts at the exploration phase. During this phase, companies are actively searching for deposits with economic potential. As you can imagine, discovering a project's potential involves a lot of effort and resources. For those that choose to invest in these companies during the exploration phase, there is potential to make a considerable profit, especially if the deposits are in high demand.
Besides the economic upside, resources play a major role. Take nickel for example, it plays a crucial role in our everyday lives, often without us realizing it. From batteries found in EVs and smartphones to household items like kitchen utensils and doorknobs, nickel is everywhere, contributing to our daily routines in numerous ways. This is why supporting companies looking to supply these essential resources is important for our future.
Of course, not all companies and projects are equal in terms of their potential for the future, and there are always risks involved. This goes for every company, whether natural resources or not. When investing, it's important to consider factors like the experienced management, the demand for resources it aims to produce, and the quality of its project and project portfolio.
One junior mining company to look at is Alaska Energy Metals ($AKEMF), who is mainly focused on securing a secure domestic supply of nickel for America’s future. The company is focused on its Nikolai Nickel Project in Alaska.
A big breakthrough for $AKEMF came in February 2024 when it announced it had Indicated Resource of more than 3.9 billion pounds of nickel and an Inferred Resource of more than 4.2 billion pounds of nickel at the Eureka Zone within Nikolai. $AKEMF has been very proactive in exploring Nikolai’s potential this past year, having conducted an initial drill program by effectively leveraging sound and historical drill data.
In 2024, $AKEMF has additional initiatives in the pipeline, including an expanded drill program scheduled for the summer. Led by Greg Beischer, an experienced seasoned explorationist with a solid track record of success, the company's main focus is on identifying higher-grade core zones at Nikolai. The aim is to enhance the quality of the mineral resource estimate.
$AKEMF presents a great opportunity for exposure to nickel exploration and potential development, as well as supporting domestic supply initiatives. With a significant discovery already made and strategic plans for further exploration at Nikolai, the company appears well-positioned to capitalize on the demand for nickel in the future.
Disclaimer: This is not financial advice please do your own research before investing. The following post is sponsored content and is posted on behalf of Alaska Energy Metals Corp.

2024.05.21 06:02 Accomplished-Cat-325 Ex-Kumon student. I went to Kumon from kindergarten to fourth grade.

Recently, I have seen lots of people complaining about how kumon is torture.
The reason my parents sent me to Kumon was because my parents sent me to a Waldorf school for KG and they didn't have much academics, so my parents had to send me to Kumon.
Until I went to a different school for 5th grade that had a more accelerated math program, Kumon was my math education, except for geometry.
From school, in first grade, I learned that quadrilaterals have four sides.
In third grade, I learned that angles of more than 90 degrees are obtuse, angles of 90 degrees are right, and angles less than 90 degrees are acute. I also learned that equilateral triangles have three equal sides/angles, isocoles triangles have two equal sides/angles, and scalene triangles have no equal sides/angles.
Other than that, Kumon is how I learned math.
I especially hated carries and borrows (when doing Kumon).
At one point, I didn't want to do Kumon to the point where I fed it to the metal sculptures of the dogs in my house.

2024.05.21 06:00 Smooth-Noise-9496 If my brother abused my 5 year old sister when he was 9-10 years old would he be considered a pedophile?

This happened when I was in third grade. I was sleeping in the same room and my sister. One time I noticed that my brother woke her up at night and took her somewhere else. I thought they were playing but I didn’t think that it was good because she needed to be sleeping. So I made her go to sleep at the same time as me and I locked the door. I remember that my brother tried to open the door but when he realized it was locked he retreated. I was happy about that. Then the next day i heard him say to her that they were not going to go to sleep.
I thought it was weird that he was so insistent on keeping her awake. So one day I asked her what they were doing. She said that they were watching something on the tv. I told her describe to me what they were watching. She said that it was some models in a line but they didn’t have bras on. I tried to get her to flip through the channel but she did not remember the channel number.
I was concerned I asked her if they were naked. She said yes. I asked her if our other siblings played this game with them. She said no. I told her I was going to tell mom but then I stopped and asked her if she wanted me to tell mom. She said. I don’t know. That made me confused. I didn’t understand why she wasn’t more worried.
Anyways. I did try to tell my mom and dad on multiple occasions. I remember when I was in 5th grade. Meaning my brother was in 6th grade. That I tried to play coy and I asked my dad if it was okay if a brother and a sister have sex. He said. “Of course not.” So I said “that is what they went to go do just now.” Because they had excused themselves from the table. He then asked my sister. If her brother was doing anything bad to her. She said no. After that I was so confused and I never said anything ever again.
I don’t know when it stopped or if it ever did. It was likely going on for years. I tried to tell my parents all the way from late in 3rd grade and before middle school.
My dad tried to get the bottom of it more than my mom but that was a dumb question. “Anything bad?” That could of meant anything to her.
My sister was 5-7 I was 9-11 My brother was 10-12.
Maybe even more. I really don’t know. My other sister remembers that one time he tried to bribe her with some chips for her to kiss him on the lips. That’s not normal in our family. So she feels like he was trying to target her too. She is only one year younger than me.
I tried so hard to get my parents permission. My mom would just ask me how I knew what sex was. She was surprised that I knew that at 9? At 9 I remember she told me about periods so I think knowing the basic of sex was pretty good. I just knew that they put their private parts together. And I knew that that was wrong.

2024.05.21 05:49 hungry144 SAT Strategies that took me from a 1540 to 1590!

I made a post about my score improvement and got quite a few PMs so I'd like to make my own post specifically for the strategies that worked for me! At some point above 1500 the SAT becomes less about knowledge and more about strategy, and I know this because I didn't study at all between my test dates; I just changed my strategy.
My first tip: your mentality. You need to be in a good state of mind during your test - this looks like getting a good night's sleep, eating something good in the morning, maybe drinking some caffeine (maybe not; you know yourself better than I do). And I know this is so much easier said than done, but don't stress too much. I already had a 1540 so I went in with the mindset that I would still be fine if I failed, and I think being relaxed helped me a lot. I think if you do your practice tests while simulating a real test this will help - I did my tests while playing "computer lab ambient noises" on YouTube, so you could try that. Do your best to feel your best on test day!
Now, for Reading (I got an 800), your strategy is really important (after you know your fundamental grammar, of course). The optimal solution is going to be different for everyone, but here are some miscellaneous strategies that I used:
  1. Understand the main idea and the idea of each sentence. Often the main idea is stated in the first or last sentence, and to make the text more understandable to me, I used the annotate function to paraphrase each sentence. Once I analyzed the meaning of each individual sentence, I was able to understand the text better and I was able to understand the function of each sentence in relation to the others
  2. Reading and Writing is, as they say, EVIDENCE-BASED. This means that the correct answer will always be supported directly by the text - if an answer is correct, you will be able to highlight a sentence or phrase that basically explicitly says the same thing as the answer key. Don't make inferences or jumps in logic!
  3. PROCESS OF ELIMINATION! The strikethrough tool is a godsend on the DSAT, so make sure you know how to use it. There are sometimes answer choices that are partially true and partially incorrect - if an answer choice has even a single assertion that is not directly supported by the text, cross it out. This way you sometimes don't even have to find the right answer, you just have to know the others are wrong. And if you guess, you have a greater than 25% chance of getting it right
  4. Read the question before the text so you know what to look for. Pretty self-explanatory
  5. For the last 3 or 4 questions where you have to use bullet points to support a claim, you don't need to actually read the bullet points - the correct answer will be obvious from looking at the answer choices. By not reading the bullet points, I basically halved the time I was spending on these questions, allowing me to focus on the trickier questions more.
  6. Speaking of timing, do NOT rush. This is what was my downfall in my 1540. The digital SAT is curved, so if you make a careless mistake on an easy question, you will lose more points than if you mess up on a hard question. You don't need to go through every question twice; just spend some extra time the first time and review the ones you flagged.
  7. And then advice on a few question types that I personally struggled with:
    1. The answer to "main idea" questions will never be in a specific example from the text. I don't really know how to explain this, except that examples will usually support the main idea rather than expressing it.
    2. Transition word questions are easy - they are asking, "how does the function this sentence relate to the priofollowing sentence?". If you do the annotate and summarize thing that I do it's fr a walk in the park.
    3. This is super specific but a name/clause will only be surrounded by commas or em dashes if it is nonessential. For example, between these two sentences: "American author Dan implies..." and "American author, Dan, implies...", the first one would be correct because the identity of the author is important to this question.
For Math (I got a 790), I have fewer tips, because I think Math is really just about knowing the concepts. What helped me was taking math a grade up, doing Kumon, and participating in math olympiads (I really think these are valuable even if you don't place or anything; I'm not really a standout but they helped with my problem solving). However, you should know desmos in and out. Know every piece of its functionality, and know how to apply it to basically every single problem in the math section. Lastly, what I struggled with was getting tired and losing focus. Especially near the end of module 2, I found that I really had to slow down and be methodical with my work so that I was not making careless mistakes.
The only resource I used other than Bluebook was Erica Meltzer, and I definitely recommend her grammar textbook. That's all; props to you if you managed to read all this, and good luck on your SAT!

2024.05.21 04:43 nobuddythe I feel like nursing is not for me . Can anyone give me some advice ?

Semester almost ending now , I am on my way to become a third year nursing student. And still feel quite deficient in terms of knowing things. Even simply putting on sterile glove I am graded with a remark stating that I should practice more , and even when administering intramuscular injection I could not keep my hands from shaking in front of my CI and it is pretty embarrassing . I think that these experiences I've got really lowers my self-esteem . And I feel like my CI are starting to notice it and might have talked bad at me behind my back. Most of them are quite condescending and very selective with students they want to teach gently to. I am so disappointed in myself right now and almost planning to quit school . If you were in my situation what would you do? I just want to read your advice guys because I'm in dire need of it. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

2024.05.21 04:35 Animemann90 Can you call the police, hire a bounty hunter, or resort to street justice towards untouchable figures such as terrorist organizations based overseas, dictators, the government, or even the military even if they have committed or endorsed heinous crimes toward private citizens?

Let's say that a foreign leader or a terrorist organization has endorsed the murder of your relative since they are not holding the weapon in question, instead, they have shadow contacts within either the dark web or a third party paid to assassinate them making it look like an accident. The same can be said if the killer works for a foreign government, in which police in your country of residence have ZERO jurisdiction to intervene.
People always say "Call the police" but consider what would happen if a figure like Putin murdered your relative, as they are a politician and have their military? What are you going to tell them? I don't think they will believe you at first, as it sounds too far-fetched, but even if that was the case, what can they do against a foreign leader who committed/endorsed murder?
Police (including authorities equivalent to the FBI) have authority limits, as you already know, they cannot arrest organizations akin to the CIA, military, or a foreign regime/leader with their bare hands, since they are above their pay grade. It's not simply possible for them to directly arrest those above their pay grade without a lot of bureaucracy involved.
For example, can the police in a country invaded by war (like Ukraine or Israel) arrest the troops invading their land? Of course not, as they will be killed before they even try, as the troops consider them as insurgents indifferent to how terrorists see NATO troops, it's like if you're a cop who is confronting the RU551ANS, you'll be seen the same akin to an active duty Ukrainian soldier.
Hiring a bounty hunter is a hit or miss, as despite paying them heaps of money, they will not be willing to overthrow the military & government, assassinate a foreign dignitary or a dictator since they know the consequences for doing so, it will for sure cause a world war, more deaths will pile up followed up by a nuclear fallout if the belligerents involved have such weaponry.
Resorting to street justice towards the government, military, or dictator (who has committed murder) won't gain you victory, as they have control over the military and police, at the end it'll only get all of you arrested or killed, and you can have a peaceful demonstration but guarantee that the other party won't be kind to you, using violent means against your group, ending with more bloodshed.
You can use social media to only spread slander, but that won't put them out of power, since they are in politics, it will only ruin their image but it will not put them in prison, since they are already at the top, above the police, to the extent that cops themselves can lose their jobs or be arrested by those above their pay grade since politicians have an upper hand.
Starting a revolution against a dictator or government is akin to a death sentence. For example, in Russia, nobody can protest against Putin as they will be assassinated, as that has already happened, how can you use street justice against him? It won't work, as he has control over the police and armed forces, so you can do nothing, social media won't bring him out of office.
Sanctions don't do anything except for enforcing monetary or trade restrictions upon a targeted nation, since they can just do business using an intermediary nation on their behalf (eg. Russia will just use the Chinese Yuan to access Western currency and as an intermediary to access SWIFT.) So in practice, even if you imposed sanctions, it won't stop them from being in power.
Out of the 3, none will lead you anywhere regardless if you resorted to street justice (either by using inmates from prison or the general public), paying bounty hunters as if they're hitmen to carry out the task at hand, or simply telling the police that powerful people have committed not only one, but a severe crime such as murder:
Calling the Police Bounty Hunter Street Justice
Result: Nothing Result: Nothing Result: Nothing
Can you arrest these individuals: No Can you track down and assassinate them: No Would you win against the government: No
The ruling party can fire cops as they have the power to do that, as they're in politics. Killing a politician or anyone is already a crime in itself, so it is not going to work. Private citizens will be arrested for killing or harming a politician or a world leader.
Police officers themselves won't be a match against the armed forces in power with a strong arsenal. Bounty hunters won't stand a chance against a military with advanced equipment and larger manpower. Private citizens will face heavy repercussions for murdering a politician or government official still in power.
Dictators are politicians, so police can't just show up to their doorstep with an arrest warrant, as they are above their pay grade. If a bounty hunter assassinated a dictator, that is grounds for a world war, already exacerbating the situation, making it worse. Impossible. Private citizens do not directly confront the dictator in power, as the leader themselves operates covertly behind the shadows.
The ICC can only do so much, but in practice it is difficult to execute, due to the repercussions, for instance, Putin is listed as an international fugitive wanted by he ICC, but most countries in the developed world are signatories and parties of the Rome Statute, meaning if he lands in any of the nations that are complicit with that, he'll be arrested.
For example, what happened to the mercenaries who killed a boy and his father in 2007? They were exonerated of wrongdoing even though there is clear evidence of them committing murder, but the issue is that they are not actual soldiers, so the rules stipulating around the military don't apply, as they are not part of an armed force, but instead part of a private corporation.
In their case, they just rename themselves trying to deflect any accountability. Assassinating them won't bring closure, instead, you'll be the perpetrator as you've taken a life, getting a harsher sentence than they would, as you are just a private citizen while they are a government entity. Can you get a lawyer to represent you in that situation?
Private Citizens (Like you & me) Government, Military & Dictatorship
Equipment: What you can scavenge Equipment: Drones, Military Hardware
Response: Putting pressure on the government Response: They will just stop or curb the protest
Numbers: 1000-10000 (a crowd of protesters) Numbers: 1m+ (taking into account of military)
It's the same reasoning as to why groups like I5I5 or 4L Q43DA aren't brought to justice even though they have murdered so many people, resorting to street justice won't solve anything, they will only use your family as collateral, cops won't even risk arresting these people as they will also kill their loved ones too, plus they are outside your jurisdiction in another country.
Again, hiring a bounty hunter on these figures won't work, as it's like them versus a large organization with a colt following consisting of terrorists who share one thing: to kill and destroy. What would happen if you said to the police that "I5I5 has murdered my [relative]!" you'll be disappointed at the outcome, they cannot arrest them, and neither can a bounty hunter.
A drone strike will only kill ONE leader of that group but won't make the organization defunct, as they can just literally appoint a new one right after, the cycle continues never going to end. If you are a private citizen who has become a victim of either being kidnapped, murdered, or tortured by these people in a foreign country you don't recognize, how can the police help you there?
I guess, the equivalent of SEALs 'might' work on rescuing you, but that will depend on how important you are as a person, (if you are a relative of a politician or a significant figure relied upon by a government, then sure that'll happen) but if you're not, they won't consider risking their own lives just to rescue a single person who has no significant importance to them.
How can the family of an American national who was detained in North Korea under the pretense of "taking down the poster of their leader" sue them on a criminal matter (as in putting them in prison), when their son is murdered by them indirectly since the regime did something to him as he returned in a vegetative state, but that's hard due to the perpetrator being a foreign (nazi-like) government.
You can try to persuade any politician to convey on releasing your relative detained in a foreign country used as a bargaining chip, but that does not involve the police, at all, as mentioned, that is out of their hands, since cops only deal with 'typical' crimes rather than political affairs, so if you are in that kind of situation, don't expect help from the cops themselves as it's beyond their scope.
So to put it - is calling the police, hiring a bounty hunter, or resorting to street justice going to work if the perpetrators of crimes bad as murder are powerful entities who either enforce the rules or have a strong grasp (within the government and amongst politicians including bodies like the UN) on controlling, putting influence, or in charge of:
Police can't always be the ones to arrest criminals who are this powerful. For instance in Israel, do you think the cops there can arrest H4M4S despite them murdering their citizens or taking them hostage? In their case, it is the IDF stepping into a position akin to SWAT to deal with the terrorists that are keeping Israeli nationals hostage.
Street justice or vigilantism won't do anything against terrorist groups or dictatorships in general, as they can kill, kidnap, and torture both the families of police and victims, an officer would not even dare to confront them without putting their family as collateral, witness protection won't help since these people are too powerful for the authorities alone to deal with.
So, there is nothing you could do as a private citizen against powerful perpetrators (bounty hunters will just disappear but won't carry out the objective knowing well they'll be implicated for assassinating a politician.) The only solution is patience, waiting for the leader to either pass away or make the regime collapse without any violent means.
You can condemn the regime from a UN standpoint but that will not put them in prison, as they are a government with their military and leadership, so the police can't do anything despite these people committing murder or crimes against humanity, no matter if you want justice towards these types of figures, more often than not, you'll always be the victim while they get away with it.

2024.05.21 04:28 Sassenach2323 Homeschool and anxiety.. helping or hindering?

I have an 8 yo boy. He will be in 4th grade next year and he’s begging to be homeschooled. He has always hated school and it’s always been a struggle. He’s diagnosed ADHD but the meds don’t work for him because they make his anxiety worse. He was seeing a tutor and that helped him catch up in reading, but now he’s in third and has had a hard year. He just spent an hour in the floor crying because he’s convinced he’s not smart, he can’t pass an SOL, etc. He has been getting some poor grades and his teachers have been making comments and putting a lot of pressure on the kids. At this point I don’t give a damn if he passes the stupid test or not. I just want him to try his best and most of all for my boy to be okay. I already have an appt with a child psychiatrist next week, but my question here is, for those that homeschool.. do you feel like it helps your child’s anxiety, or hinders it? I feel like it will definitely help short term. I worry about the long term, though. Thanks for any input.

2024.05.21 04:22 Individual_Carry2355 Cannot focus on anything

I have the typical just can’t focus on schoolwork until the final hours before where panic forces me to complete assignments but it just isn’t working anymore. I used to study for a test or work on a project due at 8am only the night before, but that ended up turning into getting up at 2:30am the day of and by now it just doesn’t work and I just hand in things late and just lie my way out of it if possible like forgetting a minor step for submissions or tech issues etc.
The assignment is in my head constantly the entire time though. If I set aside time to do it and then procrastinate with League of Legends or something then I think about the looming threat of the project and can’t even really focus on or accomplish much in the match. I split up my day constantly by how much available time I have and how much time I expect the parts of the assignment to take, so every time that I fall asleep on the train or spend time eating or am just behind pace because I didn’t write the Introduction in 20 minutes or something, I consider it a time loss and then just freak out and give up or rush the rest of it with a new estimate which makes breaking it up into smaller chunks just more difficult. I also just have issues doing small assignments or doing the tiny steps like taking a picture of and uploading a worksheet that I already did because I think of how much more there is to do.
My grades are still good but they could be better so easily and it is just not sustainable at all since my hair is shedding a lot and I look like I have not seen the sun in weeks, ongoing 1-2yr. ADHD and like OCD is in the family if that matters

2024.05.21 04:16 StudentSwimming2895 Rant

I know school is coming to an end soon but man the day I had was insane! I’ve subbed this third grade class before earlier this year and told myself never again! They’re dysfunctional I don’t know how this teacher gets anything done. Half of the kids can’t read or need extra help and it’s hard to to give your attention to them bc there is someone who constantly gets up without permission and those who refuse to their work or they take things out of their backpacks and play with them. Then there is a student with ADHD who apparently does their work “at home” but that’s an excuse and just wants to play with the Stem blocks all day. They put me in the classroom today again bc it was an emergency and I went in a postive mindset but boy was I wrong! I usually bring a treat bag to reward for good behavior, but constantly every 5 minutes “when do I get my treat I’m sitting down!” Excuse me that’s what you’re supposed to be doing?? The 3 kids she has that listen well and follow directions got their treat early and everyone is annoyed. I tell them if you improve your behavior maybe you’ll get one. Nope! Some could not grasp they had to earn something and would continue to beg. The student with ADHD refuses to do any work and when he went to the bathroom he tried flushing it down the toilet before he left home (got picked up early) the custodian comes in and tells me?! There’s another student who is on the spectrum with no aide who keeps trying to leave the classroom and opens the door the kids yell at him and make it worse he throws himself on the floor.. I was able to calm him down with a sticker (it worked thank god) and thankfully someone picked him up. Then another student tells someone they’re adopted and starts crying??? Teacher comes back for a bit to give more instructions the students basically ignored everything she said. Then I thought well if they don’t listen to you they won’t listen to anyone! Then she leaves me 2 stars on frontline??! I gave instructions as best as I could we went through everything she left on her plans. I tried my best to help the students who needed help but there is always a student distracting or causing chaos. She only has 3 students who follow directions well I feel so bad for them because i basically raised my voice all day! Rant over sorry this was long 😭

2024.05.21 04:01 iwasmitrepl First year maths papers, a PSA

Since we get a lot of questions about first year maths papers, I thought I would write up a short guide. There used to be a very nice booklet with flowcharts and everything explaining how the courses fit together, but I haven't seen such a thing since before MATHS 150 stopped existing and a quick Google brings up no results.
Disclaimer. This is not official course advice. If you want advice specifically tailored to your situation, contact an academic advisor either for your major or for the maths department (https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/science/current-students/planning-science-degree/academic-advisers-undergraduate.html). One of the advisors for the maths department definitely lurks around on this sub so if you are lucky you might even get sensible answers to your questions after posting on here.
Background. I am a PhD student in pure mathematics who did a BSc(hons) and a MSc in mathematics at UoA as well as tutoring and marking a range of maths papers. I also did some time at the University of Toronto when I was an undergrad, and I did work in industry for a short while.
With all the disclaimers etc. out of the way, here is the information.
The two courses that require essentially no maths background are MATHS 190(G) and MATHS 102.
The two courses which are for people who have done Y13 maths but aren't doing a really maths-heavy subject like physics are MATHS 108 and MATHS 110. They are basic introductions to calculus, for subjects that require a bit of maths but aren't really maths heavy, for example if you are doing higher level organic chem or applied CS (if you are interested in software engineering but not really maths-heavy CS subjects like machine vision).
MATHS 108 leads you to the second year course MATHS 208, which is the standard higher-level maths course for people in the non-mathematical sciences. This is the kind of pathway you should be taking if you are interested in quantitative chemistry (it used to be CHEM 240/340 but no idea now).
There are three required courses for maths majors. Two of them (MATHS 120 and MATHS 130) are fairly heavy proof-based courses, and if you just scraped a pass in Y13 maths (e.g. if you didn't get M's and E's in the NCEA level three calc externals) then you should be taking 108 first. If you are not a maths major, but are interested in going further in physics then you should be taking 120 and 130 at some point in your first year and a half of study. The third (MATHS 162) is more general, and you can take it alongside 108 if you want.
120/130 lead to the standard progression in maths papers for majors: 120/130 -> 250/253/254/260, and then 340/361 (for applied maths) or 332/320 (core papers for pure maths).
Final remarks
I am happy to answer any questions anyone might have, but I won't give specific advice about your degree (i.e. don't ask "I want to be an astronaut but I am failing MATHS 102, should I pivot to STATS", I won't answer that). I can do things like talk about my own experiences or recommend books, for example. I also can't give advice for stats or CS, but I can say some intelligent things about physics.
