I did not do so well with my research methods and statistics classes in my undergrad and although now I wish I can retake them, it's too late. I worked so hard on my essays and applications for MONTHS to get rejected from the top schools I applied to and now i am crumbling and losing hope. The best program I got into is the psychology masters at the University of Houston Clear Lake and i applied for the neuroscience concentration. Will it be okay if I got my masters from UHCL as long as I get a perfect GPA and research experience? Should I try to transfer a semester or a year into my masters program or would that make it even worse? I iust feel like I am spiraling because if I can't even get into a good masters program how can I get into a PhD program 😭😭 any advice is appreciated!

2024.05.22 00:48 Mcarps424 US State inspired league

US State inspired league
I made a US state inspired Retro Bowl league
Since there ate 50 states and only 32 slots I had to combine a couple states into one to form a team.
Combined Teams: Cascadia = Washington and Oregon New England = Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut The Virginias = Virginia and West Virginia Megakota = North and South Dakota Carolina = North and South Carolina Great Lakes = Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota Deep South = Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas
It was easy to group New England and the states that share a name together. I excluded South Carolina from the Deep South team to group it in with North Carolina. I excluded Texas and Florida from it too, because I felt they should each have their own teams. I felt like Georgia should have their own team too, but it was easier to group them in with the Deep South. I acknowledge that the states grouped together for the Great Lakes is kind of cursed given college football and NFC North rivalries. I attempted to break that team up and have a Tornado Valley team instead, but couldn’t figure out how to divide everything up as nicely. As cool as a Tornado Valley team would be, “The Great Lakes Superiors” is an equally cool team in my mind.
I made the conferences East vs. West. For the divisions, I tried my best to group states in the same geographic location as best as I could. The Eastern Conference was fairly easy, though Missouri was the odd one out and needed to be moved to the West. For the Western Conference, the placement of Nevada in the Pacific vs. the North division is debatable. It can easily be switched with Cascadia, but this placement felt better to me. I originally called the Pacific division, the West division but the West West division sounded dumb compared to the Pacific West. I was then left with 4 states that didn’t really fit anywhere nicely, so I decided to put them together and call it the Mountain Plains division.
I didn’t post the jerseys, but for the most part I tried to make jerseys that match the state flags. I kept Carolina, New England, Tennessee, and Arizona as their default jerseys. There were too many red and blue, and blue and gold teams, so I took some liberties with those states. For the combined states I tried taking colors from each of their flags. The Great Lakes Team, I found a color called “Great Lakes Blue”, which I used as their main color.
I am only midway through Season 2 in the save. I was assigned to take over Missouri. Alaska won the Retro Bowl in Season 1 over Megakota.
I had fun putting this together and I may make some updates in the future. I am open to any thoughts, suggestions, and questions.

WHITE HATS INVESTIGATE TRUMP DEATH THREAT AND "WHITE POWDER". PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP HAS ASKED WHITE HATS to INVESTIGATE the ORIGIN OF A SUSPICIOUS “DEATH THREAT” LETTER CONTAINING WHITE POWDER that ARRIVED in his ELDEST SON'S MAILBOX in JUPITER, FLORIDA, a SOURCE in GENERAL ERIC M. SMITH'S OFFICE Said. February 27, 2024.
President Donald J. Trump has asked White Hats to investigate the origin of a suspicious “death threat” letter containing white powder that arrived in his eldest son’s mailbox in Jupiter, Florida, Monday afternoon, a source in General Eric M. Smith’s office told Real Raw News.
As first reported by the Daily Caller, the Palm Beach Sherriff and Fire Departments responded to the alarming threat by dispatching deputies and a HAZMAT team to Don Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle’s nine-million-dollar estate, which is only a few miles from the president’s Mar-a-Lago command center. The HAZMAT team temporarily cleared the house and took custody of the threatening note, photos of which Don Jr. released to the Daily Caller. Within hours, a spokesperson for Don Jr. suggested the white powder was benign, saying, “The test results of the substance came up inconclusive on what it was exactly, but officials on the scene do not believe it is deadly,” while Don Jr. called out the MSM’s blatant hypocrisy: “Clearly, if this happened to a prominent Democrat it wouldn’t be tolerated and would drive news coverage for weeks. The media would blame all Republicans and force them to answer for it, but since it’s me, radical haters on the left will largely get a free pass and the media will barely flinch,” he said, accurately summarizing the MSM’s attitude toward conservatives.
White Hats, though, have concerns that exceed the politicization of the threat, and they believe Don Jr. made a rookie mistake by notifying public authorities before first alerting his father to the ominous danger. Although the letter and mysterious powder could’ve come from a disgruntled, deranged Democrat or Woke liberal lunatic, White Hats, having reviewed photographs and video of the incident, believe that the sinister letter may have been part of a deeper Deep State plot to access Don Jr. and Kimberly’s home, for reasons yet undetermined.
Our source said that not all first responders were who they appeared to be. He claims that two people who entered the residence in HAZMAT gear were actually members of the CDC’s rapid response team and friends of the CDC’s maniacal ruler, Director Mandy Cohen, a villainous woman devoid of decency who has vowed to renew mandatory masking and COVID-19 vaccination programs.
According to our source, the two CDC members were in the home for 15 minutes, 10 of which they spent in areas with no camera coverage.
When asked how White Hats determined their identities, considering they were wearing protective clothing that obscured features and faces, our source said, “All I can say is we now can make that determination. And we’re 100% positive they’re CDC. How they got embedded there we don’t yet know.”
On Monday evening, General Smith personally updated President Trump on the development, asking him if he wanted White Hats to pursue the investigation. Our source said the president gave General Smith the green light.
“It’s no secret the CDC has a vendetta against President Trump. He’s played a part in the arrest and prosecution of many of them, and in the execution of Rochelle Walensky. It’s possible that since he’s so well protected, they’re seeking vengeance on his family. Right now all we have is theory, but hopefully we’ll know more soon,” our source said.

2024.05.22 00:12 Serious_Passenger958 another poem

it’s coming up to three months. i miss my girlfriend so much. I have achieved a few things since she passed and i just wish i could share them with her cause i know she’d be proud. I have so many things to tell her that she would’ve found funny too:( poetry has always been my hobby. And it’s also a way i find a little bit of peace when i’m trying to manage my emotions. This is my most recent poem. I’m sorry for anyone that has become a part of this group💔. I wrote this last night when i was breaking down and just missing her so deeply. I wanted to share it.
a flame burns brightest at the smallest wick
zero signs, no warnings. she is gone, tomorrow, the next day & forevermore. i can’t remember a time she wasn’t smiling, her smile is permanently tattooed in my brain. i simply don’t remember looking at her, and not seeing a grin that ran from her left ear to her right ear. She was a beacon of light, she was a complete breath of fresh air. The same sort of air you’d expect to fill your lungs with at a tranquil lake in sweeden, no signs of pollution, 100% purified air. I always felt lighter after breathing her air. In fact, i even dreamed of being even half as pure as her one day. However i was wrong, everyone was so so wrong. we all misjudged this so called “pure” air it was only ever pure in our heads, and in our minds. But in reality she was choking, coughing and spluttering. gasping for air, air she didn’t believe she deserved. even if she was granted oxygen tents, inhalers, and all the air on earth she would still believe she didn’t deserve to breathe, to live. She didn’t even realise she helped so many people, just by existing, with her radiance and pure grace. She allowed us all to breathe clearly. behind the greatest smiles lies the most pain, she was desperate to tell me she hadn’t felt so “complete” for ages and just like that she was gone, never to be seen again. A flame burns the brightest at its smallest wick.

2024.05.22 00:01 rick_vdl Question about Florida home rental lease language.

Question for those who may be in the know - I’m renewing my rental lease for a single-family home (not a condo, apt, or townhome) and the homeowners have made some “interesting” changes to the language in the newest lease. Most notably, I notified them several times over the last few years that the large trees (oaks) need trimming and also that there is clear evidence of wood termites in the house…..no responses to those e-mail notifications were ever received. Now, they’ve added/changed the language in the lease to read that the tenant (me) is responsible for wood-eating pests and tree trimming. Are there any Florida laws in place that prohibit this and/or protect the tenant? My obvious fort course of action is to address these concerns directly with the owners, wanted to gather info before doing so.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 23:22 HumbleGauge Evidence for an abandoned time skip in Book 1 of HoC?

Almost everyone is probably aware of the timeline inconsistency in Book 1 of HoC with the Fall of Pale being said to have just happened, and this not matching up with it supposedly being 1159 Burn's Sleep. What most people might not be aware of is that even if the year was 1163 it would still be an inconsistency because it would be the wrong time of the year.
In chapter 2 of GotM Tattersail tells us Pale fell in late winter:
In some military headquarters back in the Empire's capital of Unta, three thousand leagues distant, an anonymous aide would paint a red stroke across the 2nd Army on the active list, and then write in fine script beside it: Pale, late winter, the 1163rd Year of Burn's Sleep. Thus would the death of nine thousand men and women be noted. And then forgotten.
But in chapter 1 of HoC, right after Karsa has started his journey, we are told that it is late spring:
Less than a score days remained in this, the season of spring.
While in chapter 3 Torvald Nom says Pale has just fallen:
‘This is Culvern Crossing,’ the Daru went on, ‘and it’s a storm swirling with the latest news from the south. All right, a small storm, given the size of this latrine pit of a town. The scum of the Nathii, which is saying a lot. The Malazan company’s pretty excited, though. Pale’s just fallen, you see. A big battle, lots of sorcery, and Moon’s Spawn retreated-likely headed to Darujhistan, in fact. Beru take me, I wish I was there right now, watching it crossing the lake, what a sight that’d be. The company, of course, are wishing they’d been there for the battle. Idiots, but that’s soldiers for you-’
It's clear that Pale must have just fallen, and it can't be months old news that have just reached them since Torvald thinks Moon's Spawn is crossing Lake Azur in that very moment. Karsa's journey would have to have taken him nine months for it to be late spring when he set out, but be late winter when he's in Culvern Crossing. Karsa needing nine months to reach Silver Lake seems far too long.
There is also another indication that Karsa travels to Seven Cities around the time of GotM, and that is later in chapter 3 after they have entered the Nascent when the Unbound are on board the Silanda after Karsa has killed Binadas they sense they are hunted by other T'lan Imass:
‘Let us find out. Begin the preparations. Ber’ok, scatter that handful of otataral dust in the cabin-the Tiste Edur sorcerer’s warren remains open and, in this place, it will quickly become a wound… a growing wound. The time has not yet come for such unveilings.’ The speaker then lifted its mangled head and seemed to sniff the air. ‘We must work quickly,’ it announced after a moment. ‘I believe we are being hunted.’ The remaining six turned to face the speaker, who nodded in answer to their silent question. ‘Yes. There are kin upon our trail.’
I think it's a very reasonable to assume that these are the same hunters that Felisin's group encounter in chapter 9 of DG. I also think it would be weird to have these T'lan hunters roaming the Nascent for years without finding the Silanda, but them being there for a handful of months seems relatively reasonable.
Another oddity related to the timeline placement of HoC Book 1 is the age of Karsa's daughters in TtH. If we assume that Harllo is five years old in TtH as the book says, then TtH should be set during late winter 1170, since he was conceived in the middle of 1164 in MoI, and would therefore be born in 1165 and be five in 1170. If HoC book 1 is in 1159 then this would mean that Karsa's daughters should be around 10 years old, which seems far too young.
Karsa's daughters being 10 might in fact be too generous. In tGiNW we learn that Sarlis was pregnant with Rant for 2 years, and if Teblor women have equally long pregnancies then Karsa's daughters wouldn't be born before 1161, and only be 9 in TtH. If we also take the date for HoC Book 1 to be winter of 1163 based on the Fall of Pale reference, then Karsa's daughters would in fact be younger than Harrlo.
Something that many might not know is that when HoC was originally published the year given for Book 1 wasn't 1159, but 1139. I wonder if Erikson might have based the age of Karsa's daughters on the 1139 date, which would mean that they are in their late twenties in TtH, which seems much more reasonable. But this would be a very strange error to make if the 1139 date was simply a typo. Erikson should know that HoC Book 1 isn't decades before the other books, unless that was in fact the original plan and he forgot he had changed it.
I feel the type of timeline errors related to HoC Book 1 indicate that there originally was a time skip in the middle of it that was abandoned relatively late in the writing process. Erikson has said that he doesn't care overmuch about the timeline, but he also prides himself on that he doesn't put anything in a book that he doesn't feel must absolutely be there. I can't really see any purpose to the mention of the Fall of Pale except to give the reader an idea of the timeline, but this would be unnecessary since we have already been given the year and even the season earlier in the book. If there had been a time skip then Erikson feeling the need to clarify when the story is taking place would make perfect sense.
My guess is that Erikson originally planned for HoC Book 1 to start in late spring of 1139, and then have a time skip and end it in late winter of 1163. In chapter 2 Karsa gets captured by the people of Silver Lake and put in a slave pit, but he almost immediately escapes before being recaptured by Malazan soldiers. The natural place for a time skip would have been to have Karsa be a slave for 24 years before his escape attempt.
In addition to the age of Karsa's daughter making more sense in TtH, another neat thing with the part of HoC before Karsa becomes a slave being in 1139 would be that Elade Tharos would be 80 years old in tGiNW just like Karsa was 80 at the beginning of HoC, and I really like the symmetry in that. In HoC Elade Tharos is "no more than forty" when he witnesses Karsa killing his family. tGiNW is set about ten years after MBotF, which would be around 1180, roughly 40 years after 1139.
Elade Tharos's ambitions in tGiNW are exactly the same as Karsa's in chapter 1 of HoC when we learn he is 80:
And I have but just begun on this path. Newly arrived to my eightieth year of life, finally a warrior in truth. I have heard the oldest words, the whispers, of the One, who will unite the Teblor, who will bind the clans one and all and lead them into the lowlands and so begin the War of the People. These whispers, they are the voice of promise, and that voice is mine.
If Erikson in fact planned for Karsa to be enslaved for several years then why did he abandon this idea? It might be that Karsa being a slave for so long became too derivative of the Conan the Barbarian film, or it might be as simple that he felt the story flowed better without Karsa being enslaved for a long time. Or there might never have been a time skip with Karsa being enslaved, and I'm just taking crazy pills.

Campsite, the former Confederacy of Daru'uie
Nevali Region, Aldrida, Alagore

*****

Looking past the dark horizon of the valley below, all that was seen were the crisp peaks and ridges of the Torness mighty mountains. Above the heights was the final shine of the father of all light, the yellow sun god known as Dorash. It almost seemed like his gaze was taking one last peek at the skirt of Alagore mountain peaks before finally fading to rest.
As the sun fell below the distant mountain peaks, a robust and crisp breeze swept through the valley below, bringing a sudden chill. As expected, the darkness came and got the freezing mountain cold. Everything became pitched black as the only light source came from the starlight flickering high above the dark void. That was until a new light from the campfires illuminated the camp, only so slightly not to be discovered.
The half-elf girl Fraeya Holiadon was not used to this type of cold. Being a forest noble elf who grew up in the warmth of cities, she quickly grabbed her black-white pattern cloak and pulled tightly to remain as warm as possible.
She took a long breath from the thin, chilly air and stared into the massive valley below—forests, lakes, and, in the distance, a glimpse of lights from a nearby town. Everything looked natural and wild, where civilization had struggled to conquer. A sight she rarely saw outside the city walls. She found the scenery incredible. Worth the hellish adventurer across the Torness Mountain Range.
"Stay away from the edge," a Lat said. "We don't want to be spotted."
"Alright," Fraeya replied. She looked at the Lat, surprised at how he stood, defiant of the thin air and freezing temperature. "Are you not cold?"
"Of course, I am," the last warrior said as he returned to the camp. "Living away from civilization, you grow used to such conditions."
As the soldier left, she looked at the valley one last time before heading back toward the camp.
Fraeya saw nearly a hundred soldiers huddling their campfires for warmth, gathering supplies, or standing watch within the camp. They are known as the Palatini of Orias, one of the many Republic elite units within the legionary. They were hand-picked by the Legate for this mission.
As the young girl walked past the palatini, she could see the exhaustion from their mannerisms. Many looked hungry; others tired with dark, deep black bags under their eyes. Others shaking as their bodies adjusted to the night. To her confusion, she also could see the determination within their eyes as the environment was just an annoyance toward their objective.
She wouldn't blame them for their exhaustion as she could feel most of her body sore from the non-stop marching and climbing, she had to endure to get to this point. Something that her professors left out of their classes. A part of her couldn't help but chuckle from how she once thought after graduation from the academy that she was ready to face the challenges of their world. Only now did she understand how little schooling prepared her for the real world.
"What is so funny?" Another Lat said as she passed.
When she turned to the man, she felt a slim nerve of fear that ran through her body, believing that she might have insulted them. While most of them accepted her within the platini, she could tell they saw her as a weakling over a comrade. "I am sorry. I meant no insult. I was remembering my time at the academy."
The man turned back to his friend, commenting on her inexperience.
Fraeya felt sad as this was not her first failed interaction. For the better part of a week, Orias had escorted her and her father across some of the roughest terrains on Aldrida, taking great lengths to avoid enemy forces as their orders were to keep the two elves protected at all cost. As many men had stated, it was a near miracle that they made it this far without being noticed.
From what she understood, the commanding centurion hoped to reach the base of the mountain they were on by tonight. Such delays had become the norm; they had to delay their travels because of enemy patrols. They were hiding for hours because of J'avias' patrols from one of the nearby City-States. As they adventured deeper behind enemy-occupied territory, she expected this problem to worsen.
While the Hispana Republic's detachment for the expedition could have defeated them, the legionnaire leader, Centurion Fionntan Henness, did not want to risk exposing their unit to the enemy. He feared that if the J'avias or one of their puppet races could pass a message to the Unity's regional vassal, the Verliance Aristocracy, their mission would fail, and their last hope for victory would vanish. His superiors had invested in this last-ditch effort to turn the tide of the war to risk it on a small skirmisher with fewer soldiers.
Between the dozen campfires and the dark but illuminated sky lit by their mother Tekali, this side of the mountain range had perfectly trapped the cold air, something that Fraeya Holiadon was struggling to adapt to. As a Noble Elf, she was used to the warmth of the forest and the benefits of civilization from the continent's western side. Not the chill of the alpine.
Hearing a loud howl that echoed through the mountains, clearing coming from another party elsewhere within the area, Fraeya noticed her ride panicking. She quickly rushed over and slowly approached the beast once she got close.
"There, there," Fraeya whispered to her Deerip, a four-legged beast with three horns, light brown long hair fur, and red hoofs.
Noticing that these lands unsettled the beast, a feeling she could relate to, she rubbed the side of the Derrip's neck. Slowly and calmly whispering a song to it as the beast to calm down.
Once the beast was calm, Fraeya reached into her backpack and pulled out a bundle of grass to feed it. "I understand how you feel. This place leaves an unsettling chill down my spine, too. But you need to stay calm."
"If your beast is going to cause trouble, it will be wise to let it free," Henness said as he approached.
Looking at the centurion, Fraeya replied, "he is just startled. Deerips do not usually travel these lands. He needs to get used to being here."
Henness reached into his bag, pulling out a dark red amulet. He then tossed it into a fire pit. One of the other soldiers, a pyromancy battle mage, approached the hole and ignited it with a low-level fire spell. Unlike most red and orange flames, this fire was blackish purple, a type of flame known as dark fire by the commoners.
"Half-Elf, it took us over a week to get here through this dangerous path. These mountains are very unforgiving to wandering passengers, even to the Legion. We are deep behind enemy lines with no support. If Kallam vassals discover us, we will be slaughtered without mercy."
"That is if we are lucky," a Lat said as he sat beside the Dark Fire. "I heard stories of what happens to the prisoners that are handed over to them. I wouldn't subject my worst enemy to such a fate. Especially if a little girl got us caught."
Feeling frustrated and hearing the disrespect from the man's tone, she wanted to march over and warn Henness. While Lats could be civil and possess a strong warrior spirit, she is always surprised by how stubborn they could be.
"What is your issue, Lat? Fraeya asked. "I understand the risks. My father has been studying for this mission longer than you have been alive. I know what is at stake. This legend is our only hope in stopping them."
"Hope?" Henness asked while being unfazed by the young elf's aggressiveness. "The only reason the Legate sponsored this insane mission was that your father already got funds from a Kitsune archivist guild with a questionable reputation. They wanted to eliminate your father to focus on winning the war. They cannot afford to chase fairytales from time immemorial."
"Insane mission?" Fraeya boldly stated. "This quest is not insane, you…, damn Lat! It is the answer! We all know we cannot win the war. They are just too strong. I cannot believe how you, of all people, your kind, should believe in this."
"It is a fool's quest, Fraeya," Henness replied calmly, showing his military discipline. "Look at what we are doing." Allowing himself to collect his thoughts, he sat by the Dark Fire. "We are looking for an ancient relic, a Lat-Orc folktale that allows you to travel to another world. Hundreds of sages like your father have looked for this and other relics over the centuries. Even your father was proven wrong on this subject. There is a reason why the Guilds and his own people disowned his research."
The legend of an ancient relic from a lost age was an everyday fairytale throughout the continent of Aldrida. A Bridge that connected Alagore to the world known as Altaerrie. Her father discovered that each species and civilization had their own version of the legend over the millenniums. While the tales had many different versions, they all had the core idea - that all life was brought here by the Goddess Tekali.
In this quest to validate the legend, her father, Raegel Holiadon, dedicated his life to validating the myth and the truth of their people's past. While she did not know why her father was so passionate about searching for this truth, she knew that he believed it was the most crucial mystery of Alagore.
Considered a joke from the magical and sage guilds, Fraeya's father, Raegel Holiadon, was forced to conduct his research in isolation. Dozens of sages before him have searched for the truth and failed, falling into the same ousted fake from civilization. No one believed that this time would be any different. Because of his tenacity, he was banished to the fringes of the world to prove his theories. It was not until the Unity invaded Aldrida that he brought renewed interest to his work, not because of recent discoveries or because they suddenly believed in the legend but out of desperation to survive.
"It is different this time," Fraeya said. "If we could tale the sphere and-."
Henness cut Fraeya off, saying, "I am too tired to debate this right now. All that matters is that my Palatini was ordered to escort your party through these lands. I and the rest of my people will follow those orders to the end; I guarantee that. You shall not have to worry about our duty. I just hope this fool quest does not result in the death of my men."
Fraeya felt a deep urge to defend her father's work. As she approached, a Noble Elf stopped her, her father.
"Do not let your emotions get out of control," Raegel said.
"He called me a Half-Elf," Fraeya frustratedly replied. "And he insults my Deerip and questions your life's work."
"I know, I know, now let it go," Raegel said as he calmed his daughter. "It has been a long journey for all of us. Everyone is tired and is on nerve. Do not let an off comment grow into a wild vine."
She was hearing the wisdom from her father; she took a deep breath to calm her nerves, placing her hands together to relieve stress. The journey was long after leaving the great Hispana fortress of Nervia Glevensium. Unable to take the main highway between regions, crossing the Alps was the only way. Bypassing many Unity air patrols, Cities that pledge loyalty toward Kallem, and rouge monster hordes, she realized that her father was correct. "Okay, Father."
Seeing the warm smile from Fraeya's father, she followed him to their tent. Once settled, she wrapped herself in a blanket and sat by the fire.
She watched her father place one of those dark red amulets into a fire pit; that same battle mage shortly approached and activated it with the same low-level spell, igniting the amulet into Dark Fire. Unlike the natural red fire or the other magical types like green and blue, dark fire is used by soldiers and travelers to provide a heat source at night without attracting unwelcome guests. According to the sages, Dark Fire does not illuminate as brightly, so heat-seeking creatures and constructs cannot see the flames from distances. Perfect for behind-enemy-lines missions like this. However, it provided some warmth but could never match the red flame's natural heat.
Finally feeling some warmth, or at least as Fraeya's body wanted to believe, she turned to her father and asked, "Do you think this time it will work? Can we find this Bridge?"
"I know we will," Raegel replied as he checked their supplies. "I know that Lats can be a handful, trust me. I have been around them since my exile, but Henness is correct to be skeptical. You must understand normally that only a fool would undertake such a mission. A fool that I proved to be once or twice in my lifetime." He said with some laughter. Seeing a smile from his daughter, he continued, "But this time, it will be different."
Holding the blanket tight, Fraeya shook her head. "I don't understand, though. It is their people's legend, their story. Why wouldn't they be supportive of our mission? Especially if it is our last hope to stop the Unity."
"I am not a military man," Raegel said. "I never learned the art of war but put yourself in his boots. While you were at the academy and I conducted my research, these men have been fighting this war. Imagine all the battles, all the deaths of fallen brothers that they have witnessed time and time again. Last hopes are poison for soldiers, who have lost no matter what they do. It is their fault that the war has gone this badly, or at least I assume that is how they feel."
"But the legends," Fraeya stated again.
"Soldiers do not wage war based on legends," Raegel said. "While we believe in the legend, that does not mean they do. Thousands of years have passed and that is why they call them legends in the first place, my dear. Think about all our fellow elves' tales we have, and how many of our kind believe in them?"
Reflecting on what her father had said, she knew her people had many stories. Being one of the oldest civilizations on Aldrida, they have stories relating to dozens of topics, returning to orlilla. One of her favorite legends was how her kind were once flowers that sprouted legs. Some say that this was why the Noble race was so beautiful.
"You think that orb you found is the key to everything?" Fraeya said.
"I do," Raegel said. "Everything I have invested in up to this point has pointed to this moment. Whoever hid the Bridge did so to never be discovered by anyone. They hide it with magic beyond our means. That is why no one has ever found any trace of it. They were missing one piece of the puzzle, that orb."
Thrilled to see her father excited again, Fraeya cannot wait to see his dream finally coming to life. After all these decades of researching and traveling across the world to search for any clue, he eventually will be able to prove his life work was correct. He had toured Alagore for centuries, looking for clues, relics, ruins, and anything from the old era. A life work proved worthwhile.
As Fraeya stared at the Dark Fire, she asked, "What do you think this other world will be like?"
“I have no idea,” Raegel said. "I believe that this other world will be like ours. If the historical archives at Allsari and stories of old are true, then it is the world of the Lats…, Altaerrie."

2024.05.21 23:03 trebory6 Anyone know of any Fold5 cases that have a small loop to attach accessories/this flotation bracelet? Or a floating case? Need something that will prevent the phone from sinking.

Hey guys,
I plan on taking my Fold5 out Kayak fishing soon and picked up this flotation bracelet.
Problem is, I need a way to securely attach it to the phone in case I drop the phone in the middle of the lake, it won't sink all the way down to the bottom.
To be clear, I AM NOT looking for one of those waterproof pouches even if I can pair it with a flotation band. Getting it wet is not the issue, it sinking to the bottom of a lake.
Any ideas?

Can someone recommend a body repair specialist?
My baby has a black eye. My dealership did say it was just surface damage, though that front camera is also showing an error message too. It's in BMW Melbourne red metallic A75. My dealership does do a referral to a dealership in Clear Lake but if I could find someone closer that would be good.

2024.05.21 22:26 Present-Maximum9715 (WORK / FAMILY) Ofc this had to happen

Let’s just say I live in a north east state in america and I just got my first job 10 days ago. I’ve been enjoying it and actually like all of my co workers except for one. Fast forward to today and my goddamn mother is talking about “oh I want to move states again” down to florida, obviously meaning I’d have to quit my first job not even 2/3 weeks in. It fucking pisses me off that all she’s considering is herself, and my 2 sisters and I clearly have no damn say in anything. It’s difficult as hell to even find work so now that I found a place that took me in despite it being a part time job made me want to stay and commit to doing all I can to do my best in the work I was given. Fucking Florida dude. Forced to move there before and then came back up north and now have to go back down to that shit state again that’s turning into mayhem. Great. Looks like I’ll be out of work and jobless yet again until I submit another 100 applications and 20 interviews just to find something else. Seriously what’s so great about a state known for having a hurricane every single year without fail. Fucking Disney? Piss off.

2024.05.21 21:01 thinkingstranger May 20, 2024

There is a curious dynamic at work in politics these days. Trump does not appear to be trying to court voters to his standard. If he were, he would be reaching out to Nikki Haley voters and trying to moderate his stances. Instead, he is rejecting her voters and doubling down on extreme positions. Rather than trying to appeal to swing voters, he seems to be trying to whip up his right-wing base to engage in violence on his behalf. In Minnesota on Friday, Trump echoed fascists when he told supporters, "No matter how hateful and corrupt the communists and criminals we are fighting against may be, you must never forget this is not a nation that belongs to them. This is a nation that totally belongs to you. It belongs to you. This is your home, this is your heritage." Saturday, at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association in Dallas, Texas, Trump floated the idea that he could throw out the constitutional amendment limiting a president to two terms. “You know, FDR 16 years—almost 16 years—he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term?” he asked the crowd. Some yelled, “Three!” In the same speech, Trump told attendees that the Second Amendment “is very much on the ballot” in November, and he urged gun owners to vote and to “be rebellious.” Then he told the crowd that Biden’s actions were such that if he “were a Republican, he would have been given the electric chair, they would have brought back the death penalty.” This evening, Trump’s Instagram account posted a video of what a newspaper would look like after a 2024 MAGA win. Under the headline “WHAT’S NEXT FOR AMERICA?” were the words “INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED DRIVEN BY THE CREATION OF A UNIFIED REICH,” a clear reference to fascism and German dictator Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich. It is not clear to me how anyone can any longer deny that Trump is promising to destroy our democracy and usher in authoritarianism. But it is also not clear that he is still a figure that any but the extremes of his base will follow to that end. Hence his emphasis on turning them to violence. His lies have become increasingly outrageous. On Friday he told a crowd in Minnesota that he won the state by “a landslide” in 2020 even though he actually lost it by more than 7 points. At the NRA annual meeting, Trump claimed that his former physician told him he is “healthier” and “a better physical specimen” than the famously athletic former president Barack Obama. At that same event he boasted that he won 31 club golf championships; the day before, he boasted that he won 29. Significantly, he continues to insist that the area around the courtroom is like “Fort Knox.” “There are more police than I’ve ever seen anywhere because they don’t want to have anybody come down,” he said today, “There’s not a civilian within three blocks of the courthouse.” But this is, quite simply, a lie. Virtually no one has turned out to support him. As conservative lawyer George Conway noted today, “There is virtually complete freedom of movement around that courthouse.” Social media contributor Eddie Smith, who filmed the handful of Trump protesters in New York today, put it more colorfully. After noting that “MAGA’s not repping in New York,” he added: “Wait a minute! You guys hear that? There is a mouse pissing on a ball of cotton in China. That’s how quiet it is out here.” Republican lawmakers are stepping in where Trump’s base followers are not. Republicans attacked as unfit for office 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server. They tried to impeach current president Biden on unfounded accusations that he took bribes from foreign countries. Now they find themselves forced to defend a man who is currently the defendant in a criminal trial that is showing that his associates acted like a criminal gang. As Tom Nichols put it today in The Atlantic, that defense is partly because they are afraid of their own voters. Nichols also called out those “now circling Trump like the cold fragments of a destroyed planet” who “resent the people who stuck to their principles.” Those MAGA Republicans lawmakers are, like Trump, trying to gin up anger with lies. Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), who went to Trump’s Manhattan trial to support him on Thursday, told Jesse Watters of the Fox News Channel and later posted on social media that “[t]hey’re trying to keep cameras out of the courtroom so that the American people don’t see what’s happening.” Former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski noted in response that “New York has banned cameras in courtrooms since June 30, 1997.” The most important of their lies, though, is that the 2020 presidential election was stolen and that to protect the 2024 election, it is imperative to police the election. This is the same tactic Trump used in 2020, claiming exactly four years ago that “they send in thousands and thousands of fake ballots.” Those lies have resulted in a huge increase in threats against those whom MAGA perceives as an enemy. Danny Hakim, Ken Bensinger, and Eileen Sullivan reported in the New York Times yesterday that last year, threats against federal judges increased 150% over 2019: 450 federal judges were targeted. Since 2018, threats to members of Congress have increased by 50%, with more than 8,000 such threats last year. More than 80% of local officials also say they have been threatened or harassed. MAGA lawmakers refuse to say they will accept the results of the 2024 election. On Saturday, Wisconsin senator Ron Johnson refused to commit to that fundamental tenet of our democracy. On Meet the Press on Sunday, Florida senator Marco Rubio also declined to say he would accept the election results. Those vying for the Republican vice presidential nomination, including North Dakota governor Doug Burgum and South Carolina senator Tim Scott, have refused to say they would accept the results. Their tactics are working among the Republican base. A CBS News/YouGov poll released this weekend showed that only 47% of Arizona Republicans say they will accept the results of the 2024 election no matter who wins. An equal number—47%—say they will challenge the results if the other side wins. That result is not symmetrical with the Democrats: 82% of them say they will accept the results, while only 14% say they will challenge the results if their opponents win. But people are pushing back against the MAGA narrative. On May 15 the Texas Tribune and ProPublica published a story by Jeremy Schwartz about Courtney Gore, a woman who ran for a Texas school board to combat pornography and critical race theory in the schools, only to find there wasn’t any. When she told the public, her former colleagues turned on her. “I’m over the political agenda, hypocrisy bs,” Gore wrote. “I took part in it myself. I refuse to participate in it any longer. It’s not serving our party. We have to do better.” Steve MacLaughlin, a meteorologist for NBC 6 News in Miami, reported on a new law Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed into law last week that will remove references to climate change from state law. “On Thursday, we reported on NBC 6 News that the government of Florida was beginning to roll back really important climate change legislation and really important climate change language in spite of the fact that the state of Florida, over the last couple of years, has seen record heat, record flooding, record rain, record insurance rates, and the corals are dying all around the state,” MacLaughlin said. “The entire world is looking to Florida to lead in climate change, and our government is saying that climate change is no longer the priority it once was. Please keep in mind, the most powerful climate change solution is the one you already have in the palm of your hands: the right to vote. And we will never tell you who to vote for, but we will tell you this: We implore you to please do your research and know that there are candidates that believe in climate change and that there are solutions, and there are candidates that don’t.” On May 17, former lieutenant governor of Georgia Geoffrey Duncan noted on Amanpour & Company that Trump had done less for rural voters than any other president in modern history. “At the end of the day,” he said, “we just cannot get into the business in America of electing dishonest human beings to represent us…. The world’s watching us. I’m hoping we get this right.” Tonight, Sarah Matthews, who was deputy press secretary for the Trump administration, wrote: “Trump’s continued use of Nazi rhetoric is un-American and despicable. Yet too many Americans are brushing off the glaring red flags about what could happen if he returns to the White House. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” — Notes: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/19/trump-nra-convention-dallashttps://www.rawstory.com/trump-threat-biden/https://nymag.com/intelligencearticle/the-nra-is-weaker-than-ever-how-much-does-that-matter.htmlhttps://time.com/6979795/trump-receives-nra-endorsement-urges-gun-owners-vote/https://apnews.com/article/election-2024-trump-minnesota-4f7ebfe7a2e1949d38a7c9894616a985 https://apnews.com/article/trump-election-2024-rhetoric-germany-antisemitism-31002afb91b642c0314223d19e51f427https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/marco-rubio-joins-republicans-hedging-accepting-election-results-rcna153011 https://presswatchers.org/2024/05/trump-choosing-not-to-testify-in-his-defense-should-be-a-banner-headline/https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/19/us/politics/political-violence.htmlhttps://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/4675594-florida-meteorologist-ron-desantis-climate-change-roll-back/https://captimes.com/news/elections/top-wisconsin-republicans-mixed-on-accepting-2024-election-results/article_2ae8f1e4-1538-11ef-a217-d7802fd5a882.htmlhttps://www.reuters.com/world/us/donald-trump-fire-up-supporters-nras-annual-us-gathering-2024-05-18/,accepted%20the%20influential%20group's%20endorsement)https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2024/05/the-maga-memory-hole/678435/https://www.texastribune.org/2024/05/15/texas-granbury-isd-school-board-courtney-gore/X: BidenHQ/status/1791469492440072359RonFilipkowski/status/1792195770374099083samstein/status/1792188951920361645HueyRey/status/1792635408506912824mkraju/status/1792515853314904293gtconway3d/status/1792548740525363276eddsmitty/status/1792573721615434037atrupastatus/1792626209118884346BidensWins/status/1791609511435714795BidenHQ/status/1792209690664845569BidenHQ/status/1791946911340999113CarlosGSmith/status/1792207611733172238Tim_Walz/status/1791620309105119419BidenHQ/status/1791949552469082444AccountableGOP/status/1791661408641298808SarahAMatthews1/status/1792760772193374274

2024.05.21 20:16 tony22times "Nikola Tesla Shows How Men of the Future May Become as Gods.

"Nikola Tesla Shows How Men of the Future May Become as Gods."“When a child is born, its sense organs are brought in contact with the outer world. The waves of sound, heat and light beat against its feeble body, its sensitive nerve fibers quiver, the muscles contract and relax in obedience—a gasp, a breath, and in this act a wonderful little engine, of inconceivable delicacy and complexity of structure, is hitched to the wheelwork of the universe. Left to itself the engine stops; it has no power to draw energy form Nature’s inexhaustible store.”The little engine moves and works, changes size and shape, performs more and more varied operations, becomes sensitive to more and more different influences, and now there begins to manifest itself in it a mysterious force. It becomes capable of responding to stimuli of a more subtile nature and of drawing, for its own use, energy from the environment. Gradually the engine has been transformed into a being possessed of intelligence, which perceives, discerns, does like others of its kind.“The experiences multiply, the knowledge increases, the discernment becomes keener, the human being, responding to the faintest influences, is awakened to the consciousness of Nature and its grandeur, and in its breast there is kindled a desire to imitate Nature, to create, to work itself the wonders it perceives.”But the exercise of this power does not satisfy the mind, which rises to still higher, undefinable perceptions, not of this world, and inspired by them the artist, the inventor and the man of science give expression to the longing of the soul.“What can man, with his power of creating, in his striving toward the ideal, produce; what result can he attain which would be of the greatest consequence in this universe, his greatest achievement? A scientific idea which I advanced nearly two years ago in an unpublished address may serve to answer this question, form a point of view likely to be taken by an inventor or engineer.”According to the adopted theory, first clearly formulated by Lord Kelvin, all matter is composed of a primary substance of inconceivable tenuity, vaguely designated by the word “ether.” The atom of an elementary body is differentiated from the rest of this substance, which fills all space, merely by movement, as a small whirl of water would be in a calm lake.“All matter, then, is merely whirling ether. By being set in movement, ether becomes matter perceptible to our senses; the movement arrested, the primary substance reverts to its normal state and becomes imperceptible. If this theory of the constitution of matter is not merely a beautiful conception, which in its essence is contained in the old philosophy of the Vedas, but a physical truth, then if the ether whirl or atom be shattered by impact or slowed down and arrested by cold, any material, whatever it be, would vanish into seeming nothingness, and, conversely, if the ether be set in movement by some force, matter would again form. Thus, by the help of a refrigerating machine or other means for arresting ether movement and an electrical or other force of great intensity for forming ether whirls, it appears possible for man to annihilate or to create at his will all we are able to perceive by our tactile sense.”This conclusion, though startling, is not contradictory to the adopted doctrine of the indestructibility of matter, and in the light of modern views it may be considered as a scientific possibility. It does not require the exercise of great powers of imagination to conceive that by harnessing the sun’s energy and making his machines self-acting these processes of creation and annihilation might be made to go on without human intervention other than the control.“Could he do this, man would then have god-like power, for he could create any kind of material substance, of any size and shape, seemingly out of nothing, and he could make all perceptible substance revert to its primary from, lose itself forever in the universe.”At his command, almost without an effort on his part, worlds would be born. This, according to my ideas, would be the grandest feat which might be performed by man, the most consequential, his greatest achievement.“

MARINES Fight FEMA Near TEXAS PANHANDLE INFERNO. WHITE HATS INVESTIGATING THE UNSTOPPABLE BLAZE SURGING through the TEXAS PANHANDLE FOUGHT a PITCHED BATTLE against RENEGADE FEMA AGENTS; a CONFRONTATION LED TO a FIREFIGHT that LEFT THREE AGENTS DEAD and ONE BEGGING U.S. MARINES TO SPARE HIS LIFE. March 3, 2024.
White Hats investigating the unstoppable blaze surging through the Texas Panhandle fought a pitched battle against renegade FEMA agents Thursday afternoon; a confrontation led to a firefight that left three agents dead and one begging U.S. Marines to spare his life.
Over the last week, a raging inferno has charred over a million acres of land, destroyed 700 homes, and killed or displaced thousands of head of cattle vital to our nation’s food supply. As of this writing, the fire has ruined 1,400 square miles of prairie and is only 15% contained. The Biden regime has blamed manmade climate change and an unusual spate of warm weather last week as catalysts for the firestorm.
However, White Hats have a different working theory: the cabal started the fire intentionally, for reasons not entirely clear.
A source in General Eric M. Smith’s office told Real Raw News that U.S. Army Cyber Command overheard a conversation between a ranking State Department official and a Federal Emergency Management Agency supervisor in Oklahoma on Wednesday. The source wouldn’t name the individuals, but he said their conversation included phrases such as “the fire is the best thing to ever happen to Texas,” “let Texas burn,” and “that’ll teach [Governor Greg] Abbott a lesson,” and concluded with the FEMA official saying he had already dispatched agents to the city of Fritch, on the outskirts of the Smokehouse Creek fire.
General Smith, our source said, knew an immutable fact: where FEMA goes, trouble follows.
“We have too much bad blood with FEMA. They’re an infestation, like roaches, and just as hard to exterminate. Squash one, more scurry out. Gen. Smith wanted to know what they were up to, so he sent small teams to different parts of the disaster area to get a look around,” our source said.
By the time the Marines showed up, FEMA had already set up emergency relief centers at a church and a school gymnasium south of the Grape Vine Creek fire. The Marines discreetly investigating those locations for signs of federal treachery on the populace were shocked to see FEMA personnel actually administering aid to displaced citizens. FEMA had a triage center and had provided shelter and sustenance to refugees.
“It was very un-FEMAlike,” our source said.
However, Marines surveying damage near Fritch met a face of FEMA with which they were more familiar. While patrolling Highway 136, close to the Windy Duce fire and the eastern shore of Lake Meredith, the Marines encountered a 4-man FEMA team trying to force a rancher to vacate his undamaged property. The Marines witnessed the federal Gestapo shove the frail, elderly man to the ground and rummage through his pockets, then moved to intervene.
They made a tactical approach, then commanded FEMA to unhand and step away from the bruised man, who seemed thoroughly confused by the situation. At that point, one FEMA agent, ostensibly the guy in charge, said FEMA had unilateral control of the disaster area and would treat military interlopers as enemy combatants.
The lead Marine tried futilely to defuse the encounter; he gave the FEMA agents a chance to leave the premises unharmed, but the lead agent belligerently refused the overture and reached for a sidearm on his hip, a move that forced the Marines’ hand.
In an instant, two of the four FEMA agents fell dead, their bodies zipped by 5.56 rounds from the Marines’ M4 carbines. The third agent died to Marine fire as he tried to take the rancher hostage. Meanwhile, the fourth agent had fallen to his knees and begged for mercy, asking the Marines to spare his life and saying he was just following orders. He was taken into custody.
“This was an unfortunate thing—for FEMA. It’s important to note that FEMA is bifurcated—it employs 20,000, and about ¾ of them are corrupt to the core. The other quarter is just people doing a job and working for what they consider a benevolent agency. But make no mistake, it’s Deanne Criswell calling the shots, causing the problems,” our source said.
In closing, we asked our source if White Hats had determined the cause of the fires.
“We have nothing definite. But we’re looking at every avenue from someone tossing a match to direct energy weapons like what was used to burn Maui,” he said.
