2024.05.21 21:59 ARadioStar Was everyone just gatekeeping Saskatoon?

A few months ago I posted on here how to convince my bf to go on a road trip to Saskatoon. And just last weekend we finally did! I planned an itinerary and had zero expectations as to what to expect. Long story short, we were blown away! We had a delicious lunch and dessert in Broadway, saw Picassos in the Remai Modern Museum, strolled the paths along the river and wandered around the beautiful buildings at UofS. We were just so amazed at how charming this city is. We barely got to complete all the things we wanted to do; if only we stayed longer. I understand that we only visited for a short while but Saskatoon was totally not what most people say it is!
(now time to convince my bf to return again XD)

2024.05.21 21:55 torilikefood Found a sample of B9 by Bond No 9 New York on the ground at work

It’s not really my type of scent. Im more of a vanilla/gourmand girly, but I wanted to smell sophisticated for my job interview so I put some on and they offered me a job on the spot - no interview - because they have a friend who knows me and gave an enthusiastic “hell yeah” when asked about me.
The pay was below what I need so I declined, but I think this might be my good luck charm. I have another interview on Friday so I’m going to make sure I’m wearing it again, and if I get the job I’m gunning for I’ll buy myself a bottle as little treat.

2024.05.21 21:51 corradoooooo experience w drug testing in industry (how much do ppl care about THC these days?)

tl;dr : how much do middle-of-the-road biotech companies care about/test for THC these days (specifically in Massachusetts or other legal states)?
basically the title, i’m a recent grad (b.s. in biochem & molec bio with a minor in microbiology) currently applying and interviewing for industry roles in Massachusetts to kickstart my career in biotech. the problem, i smoke weed; i have a med card and use it for anxiety/insomnia. it seems like, for the most part, the big guys like pfizer and such are strict and dont tolerate any substances, whereas some smaller companies dont even require a drug test. i’ve been mainly applying to companies in the middle (Charm Sciences, Selux Diagnostics to name a few) and they either say they “reserve the right to test potential employees” but not if they always do, or from other reddit posts it seems like some companies will straight up ignore a positive THC result as long as the rest of the test is clean.
most threads i’ve seen on this topic are from a while ago, and with the recent rescheduling i’m curious if anyone knows what the current landscape is like? alternatively, im curious if it’s a better idea to be transparent abt my marijuana use from the first conversation with a recruitehiring manager, not mention anything until a drug test is mentioned, or simply say nothing + take the test + see if they care after the fact? i obviously dont want to waste anyone’s time, but if i can convince them they want to hire me and the only issue is a positive THC result im hoping i could still be employed (assuming the company does not receive fed funding/gov’t support of some kind). thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 21:33 certifiedbpdqueen Jimmy Steve is crap

I’ll never understand how the majority of y’all root for Fiona and Jimmy Steve. I always see posts and comments on here about them with people saying stuff like “right person, wrong time” but Jimmy Steve was the wrong person completely. Literally all of Fiona’s love interests in the show were shit tbh, except for Mike. For starters, Jimmy Steve totally lied about his name and everything about him for an extremely long time, until an 11 year old girl exposed him and he finally fessed up. I think he did actually love Fiona, but he was just so shitty to her and I think a part of him also knew that he could take advantage of her and use her because she was so extremely insecure. Literally every time they had an argument, he would always come back with gifts for her or he would verbally charm her, which is just clear manipulation. I’m also not saying that Fiona is totally innocent either, I mean she made very poor choices in the show since the pilot episode. She decided to date a car jacking criminal that had just belittled her on their date in the pilot episode, so that was kind of stupid. Fiona allowed Jimmy Steve’s behavior in their relationship to keep happening. The two of them were just terrible together, idc what y’all say.

2024.05.21 21:14 Cyborg800_2004 Countering claims about the Craig era

The Craig films were devoid of charm and humour
A video by my fellow moderator u/Sneaky_Bond shows many examples of the Craig era having humour and charm. The humour in Craig's films are more in the vein of Connery than Moore, being drier and more subtle. The comedy of Connery's last film and then Moore's are more blatant and the films take themselves much less seriously. That being said, Craig's last two films do incorporate more gags à la Moore like Bond falling from a crumbling floor to a couch in Spectre and No Time To Die's slapstick Cuba shootout.
Craig's films aren't Bond films and do not resemble the previous films, totally eschewing elements like exotic locales, beautiful women, fancy cars and clothing, diabolical villains, far-fetched world domination schemes, deadly henchmen with a gimmick, lavish opening title sequences, the roaring orchestral scores, the over-the-top action scenes, the beautiful girl who ends up betraying him, the needlessly complicated death-trap because apparently a bullet just won't suffice...
Again, Sneaky's video disproves the lack of personality and charm. Every Craig films had exotic locales, beautiful women, gadgets, fancy cars and clothing, diabolical villains, lavish opening title sequences, roaring orchestral scores, and over-the-top action scenes. The beautiful traitor, convoluted death-traps, far-feteched world domination schemes, deadly henchmen with gimmicks each appeared in at least one of the Craig films. They didn't always show up pre-Craig anyways.
Craig is not a real Bond, but a Jason Bourne clone
Craig's first two films did take a more grounded and intense approach like Bourne, but the franchise has always blended the elements of its contemporaries with the classic formula to stay relevant. More importantly, following the lead of Bourne and Batman Begins finally made harkening closer to the novels (again, thanks u/Sneaky_Bond) palatable for audiences who previously rejected entries like Dalton's. The novels aren't the end-be-it-all for what the franchise should be, but their influence cannot be overstated, and Eon has said as much. The six sixties films represent the golden age for the franchise, and five of them were direct adaptations of the novels. The franchise has swung the pendulum between lighthearted fantasy (which increasingly departed from the source material with films like Guy Hamilton and Lewis Gilbert's) and more serious grounded fare (like John Glen's films), and, even putting aside the novels, there are precedence for what the Craig films did in previous films.
Craig's Bond enjoys killing and is a serial abuser of women
It's made very clear that Craig's Bond dislikes killing, with him squirming when drowning Dryden's contact in Casino Royale and refusing to look at Slate and Safin's eyes in Quantum of Solace and No Time To Die respectively. As for abusing women, Bond's relationships with Vesper, Camille, and Madeline were anything but abuse. He does seduce Fields and Lucia to achieve his goals and his sleeping with Severine is contentious, albeit presented as consensual, but these are tame compared earlier films like Goldfinger, Thunderball, and The Man With The Golden Gun.
Craig wanted to kill off Bond because he hated the role
He doesn't. The "wrist-slitting" comment that his detractors frequently use as "proof" was, according to him, an ill-advised attempt at a joke that he regrets, and was borne from a troubled production that saw him stick with a tear in the ACL for nine months to prevent delays. As for Bond's death, his comments on NTTD's ending and the influences from OHMSS and Fleming's work show a clear artistic desire to wrap up his era definitively to allow the next to start fresh while still paying tribute to the source material. While the execution may not have been the best, there were no ill intentions behind the decision to kill off Bond.
Barbara Broccoli kept Craig on for so long because she was infatuated with him
This is a rather sexist insinuation. Did Albert Broccoli keep Moore on for so long because he was in love with him? Craig was a popular Bond whose five films are all in the top half financially when adjusted for inflation. Skyfall/Spectre rivals GoldfingeThunderball, released during the franchise's peak in popularity culturally, as the most successful consecutive pair of films in franchise history. It made sense from a business perspective to retain Craig for so long.
The films are taking forever to get made; Eon is resting on its laurels.
Not exactly. using the UK release dates, for the Brosnan era, GoldenEye first released November 24, 1995; Tomorrow Never Dies December 12, 1997 (749 days); The World Is Not Enough November 26, 1999 (714 days); and Die Another Day November 20, 2002 (1090 days). That makes for an average of 2.33 years between films.
Now for Craig's first four films, Casino Royale released November 16, 2006; Quantum of Solace October 31, 2008 (715 days); Skyfall October 26, 2012 (1456 days); and Spectre October 26, 2015 (1095 days). There was an average of 2.98 years between films, meaning that the average increased by 237 days, or around 8 months, between films compared to the Brosnan era. It should be noted that Skyfall lost a year of pre-production because MGM declared bankruptcy.
No Time To Die would have originally released October 25, 2019, 1460 days after SP first released, bringing the average to 3.23 years between films. Due to the original director and writer leaving, the film's final release date pre-pandemic was April 3, 2020, 1621 days later, bringing the average to 3.34. The true release date was ultimately September 30, 2021, 2166 days later, resulting in an average of 3.72.
Making films takes more time and resources. While it would be nice to have more films frequently, it's understandable that the average time between films has increased, more so when considering the production issues Skyfall and No Time To Die faced.

2024.05.21 20:54 TheThrillist Dear dad I’m so confused

I’ve never had any examples of what a healthy romantic relationship looked like. I was with a man for almost a decade that I genuinely thought was the one. In the beginning he was funny, smart, charming, encouraging, loyal, and super handsome to me(not stereotypically attractive but definitely my type). The second we got engaged and moved in together though he completely changed, he became an abusive monster I never could’ve imagined. It took me a couple of years to get out of the situation safely. It almost cost me my life before I got out. Even after I left I still missed the old him, the good parts of what we had, even though I knew I could never speak to him again. It’s been 3 years since then, and I’ve purposely stayed single, not even casual dating, the entire time, and focused on my career and healing.
I recently met someone who is so kind to me which was a really weird feeling at first. He does everything I’ll allow him to in order to take care of me(which I’m not used to at all), he sees all these good things in me that I didn’t know anyone cared about, he prioritizes my health and happiness over everything, and he’s truly a gentleman. Personality wise he’s everything I should want in a partner. For some reason though I can’t make myself feel the attraction I know I should be feeling. He literally tries to talk to me every single day, wants to make sure I’m home safe every day, makes sure I’m not overworking myself, etc… He’s doing everything right. I don’t know what’s wrong with me that I can’t make myself feel that spark that we should obviously have. I want a relationship at some point, but I feel like maybe I’m just not meant to have one. This guy deserves to have an amazing partner who can naturally reciprocate all that he does, and I want to be that person. I just don’t get why it’s not coming naturally and feeling forced on my end at times.

2024.05.21 20:46 TheAvidFan What does a ‘perfect G’ look like?

The G-virus is somewhat peculiar in that after infecting its host, it transforms them into the so called “perfect lifeform,” unlike the T-virus which alternates it’s host’s genome, giving them additional strength and agility when paired with the “perfect genes,” somewhat similar to (but not the same as, because it was a different virus) Albert Wesker’s enhanced strength and speed.
The G-virus does something different, it fundamentally changes the host’s DNA and cellular structure. Transforming them into a new organism known as ‘G.’ Seemingly, the only way a ‘perfect G’ can be created is through a parasitic reproduction process. Patient 0 infects the host with an ‘embryo,’ which, similar to a facehugger in Alien, uses the host’s DNA to ‘fertilize’ itself, allowing the ‘embryo’ to grow into a G.
There is a caveat however, as the host’s DNA must be similar to the DNA of patient 0. Otherwise the ‘embryo’ will not take, and will exit the host to grow into an ‘imperfect G.’ If the host’s DNA is similar to patient 0, the ‘embryo’ will merge with the host’s body, and begin transforming them into a ‘perfect G.’
This is seemingly different to being simply infected by the virus, as neither William Birkin, nor Lisa Trevor (both individuals infected with the G virus) as Trevor maintained her human form, not exhibiting any of the reproductive process observed in Gs, and Birkin’s body suffered so much damage that it mutated out of control until he became an amorphous mass. Hardly a ‘perfect lifeform.’
The only known circumstance in which this occurred was when Dr. William Birkin, infected with the G-virus, infected his daughter, causing her to undergo the process of becoming a G, she was however treated by Clair Redfield with the DEVIL vaccine before the process could complete, leaving her almost unchanged, save for an incredible healing factor. Birkin also infected several others, but their DNA was not compatible, causing the immature Gs to reject their host. These ‘imperfect Gs’ can be encountered in the Raccoon City Sewer System.
So, all of this begs the question, what would a ‘perfect G’ look like? What would have become of Sherry Birkin if she had not been treated?

2024.05.21 20:44 Fearless-Wish1405 cold/ haughty character gets inebriated and start clinging to their crush

sorry for the long title 😅
basically looking for this trope where the normally reserved character is temporarily not in their right mind (drunk, ill, concussed etc.) and becomes uncharacteristically clingy/sweet
e.g. from A rake of his own by A. J. Lancaster when the fae prince mc gets essentially magic roofied by his ex and the human mc has to take care of him:
"We’re safe. How are you doing?” Rakken’s eyes were less blank away from Emyranthus’s compulsion, but he wore a dreamy smile that twisted Marius’s insides with its wrongness. Rakken never looked that blithely happy.
“I am glad to be with you,” he said, as if this answered the question. He stepped closer and nuzzled at Marius’s neck. “I like the way your magic smells. Like old books and cut grass. It makes me want to lick it.”
He did exactly that, tickling Marius’s ear. Marius disentangled himself, putting the tree between Rakken and himself. “You know Emyranthus dosed you with bloodlock, don’t you?”
>! “Yes.” !<
Rakken didn’t seem at all concerned. He followed Marius around the tree, reaching for him. “You are so beautiful. I want to kiss you.” Marius was both charmed and alarmed. “I don’t think that’s a good idea right now. Let go, Rake" Rakken let go immediately, though he gave a small pout as he did so, like a child being denied a treat.

2024.05.21 20:38 Fear2010 Before Sweet Revenge & Major Sweets: Candy Factory, I wrote a Willy Wonka house concept.

I’m really glad to hear that one of my house ideas is now a reality in some shape and form. My take on Willy Wonka is one of the few concepts of mine that represents the literature category in my alternate universe of Halloween Horror Nights. As for how I see it other than the horror tropes thrown in, I picture it to be surreal as the novel and the Tim Burton remake while having most of the charm from the original movie. Though, they obviously couldn’t do it a hundred percent like this, since Universal doesn’t spend money on book-related licenses compared to other IP’s from previous years, but I’ll happily take an original. I wanna thank Orlando for making this a reality in some fashion for me. All the writing and good work that I’m doing helps make me feel like if the event happens everyday for me, and I’ll keep doing it regularly much as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Reservations Necessary To Dine In Barcelona Restaurants?
Asking the age-old question of whether reservations are necessary to dine in Barcelona restaurants is like trying to solve a Rubik's cube. It can take some skill and finesse but, with patience and practice, the answer can be revealed!
To begin with, it generally depends on what kind of restaurant you're planning on visiting. For instance, if you choose to visit a high-end establishment downtown then making a reservation may be essential; however, many smaller restaurants don't require one. In Spain specifically, most local eateries will not insist upon an advanced booking - particularly for lunchtime meals or during off-peak hours. Here are three tips that could help:
Look up reviews online – they often indicate if reservations are recommended
Check out the restaurant website – this should have more information about their policies
Give them a call directly – speaking to staff members might give you the clearest insight into their practices
Ultimately though, there’s no need to worry unduly about making bookings since Barcelona has so much delicious food and friendly service readily available! Whether it's tapas bars, seafood cafes or traditional bistros customers just walk right in and enjoy themselves without any hassle. There’s something wonderfully freeing in knowing exactly where your next meal is coming from without having to plan ahead too far in advance. If freedom and spontaneity sound appealing when exploring this vibrant city then luckily there are plenty of options out there which don't require reservations!

€15 - 20 for an economical lunch or dinner

It's possible to enjoy delicious Catalan cuisine without breaking your budget; many eateries offer good value sets menus that include starter, main course & dessert from around €20/person. For those looking to save even more money but still eat well, there are numerous tapas bars offering small plates at relatively low prices. 2024.05.21 20:07 Vegetable_Body_9246 My favorite sabrina the teenage witch seasons ranked

1: 7 2: 6 3: 1 4: 3 5: 4 6: 2 7: 5
Just my mood right now, maybe it changes but I know seven isn’t all that good but at the same time, I can rewatch it quite a bit but mostly the last few episodes idk it has it’s own charm and I’m glad they went for all 7 seasons even if there are things they def could have done better
6 I like Morgan and Josh and Sabrina Josh and the paper and the coffee shop which I can’t remember if that’s still in 6 and Hilda and the characters and Josh make it interesting though the direction they took had disappointments
One had mr pool and Jenny and Drell and Libby and was good for those reasons esp
I’m undecided about two Vs four but three felt still pretty classic and had lots of good eps as well and visits from family members 👍🏽
Five was my least favorite can’t really get into it prob doesn’t help ppl she dates are blah or nonexistent idk and her roommates aren’t too likeable in this season either
Your thoughts?

2024.05.21 20:07 mariazartmo Plot hole?

In the original series, they live in a lockdown situation with their home protected by the Fidelius Charm and under the constant threat of being found out by Voldy.
In the Cursed Child however, Albus and Scorpius travel back in time to Godric’s Hollow to the day Lilly and James Potter die. They immediately find and can see the home of the Potter’s and even see them nonchalantly leaving for a stroll outside in the middle of the day. That makes no sense to me. Is that a plot hole?

2024.05.21 19:51 sninapeters What if Claire had traveled back in time instead from America 2024 as a 27 year old

Posted in /outlander but was removed, I didn’t know this sub existed. Hi!
I just started the series last week, finished season 1- so all of outlander is new to me. Loving it. But being the huge sci-fi lover I am, I keep wanting to hear more about the time travel itself. Which had me thinking, what if the timeline had been different? A 27 year old from 2024 America traveling to Scotland in 1745? The show wouldn’t last an episode. The book wouldn’t be more than a humorous short story. My lack of history knowledge makes me ashamed to say I would die quite quick in Claire’s position.
What other scenarios have you all thought of? What time would you travel back to, realistically? Where could you survive- as Claire does?
Myself, I think I would suit fine in 1955-1970. I think maybe these years I would have the most fun and understand social concepts of that time without finding myself in trouble.
