2024.05.21 19:32 Nosybones Have to get this out of my system

This will be wordy and complicated so you may only wish to read it if you’ve found yourself as inexplicably captivated by this entire mess as I am. This is my current working theory, and I don’t claim that it’s entirely accurate or factual It’s just my theory and I am open to corrections, additions, or counter arguments. (No, I am not overly proud of how I know some of these things. I reactivated Instagram and rejoined Reddit after years of abstaining from social media just to further this little investigation/obsession. Hyperfixation is a real bitch sometimes.)
Taylor’s team would’ve been aware of her impending breakup with Joe and relationship with Matty Healy long before those things were public knowledge. With the Eras tour set to start up in March of 2023, her team would’ve been actively, aggressively plotting to address any potential negativity or fallout from the situation, especially with so much riding on this tour. Preemptive damage control would’ve been in absolute overdrive because of the timing of it all. Speaking of timing, the early months of 2023 were a big moment for Travis Kelce. The Kelce brothers were about to face off in the Super Bowl and the media was saturated with them. All the Kelces have mentioned the attention and opportunities they were receiving during that time, including Donna. Scott Swift is a huge football fan, especially of the Eagles, and he was already at least acquainted with or had a casual friendship with Andy Reid. It's very likely that Taylor "dating" Travis Kelce was Scott Swift’s idea. During my “research” on this entire situation, I’ve come across multiple remarks about Taylor’s team traveling to/having meetings in KC in March of 2023. I am guessing that Taylor was so in love with Matty that she put her foot down with her team (including Scott) and wouldn’t participate in their plans regarding Travis at that time. Instead, she likely insisted on the April 8th announcement of the breakup with Joe and doubled down on her relationship with Matty, mouthing loving messages to him and making her speech on stage about how happy she was and how her life finally made sense, being seen with him repeatedly and allowing him to be seen carrying bags into her apartment, etc.
I don’t know if Taylor or her team anticipated exactly how bad the publicity surrounding Matty would be or how intensely negative the response would be from a very vocal portion of her fanbase. I feel like most of us know about the narratives that ramped up against Matty, the SpeakUpNow letter, Swifties threatening to sell their concert tickets, Matty and his people receiving death threats, just all the BAD MESS, so I won’t make this even longer by going too deep into it. I have no doubt Taylor and Matty were experiencing a ton of pressure and emotional whiplash during all of that, which ultimately led to a painful and traumatic breakup for them. And that brings us right back to the suspended Travis Kelce plan. Taylor had shows in KC on July 7th and 8th of 2023. A couple weeks after that we get the cute little story from Travis on his podcast about trying to give Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it at her show (I have never and will never believe that bs for a single moment, no matter what). According to them, they start hanging out shortly after that, which is likely true. Ryan Reynolds apparently started following Travis on Instagram in early August so that timing checks out. (I could go off into a whole thing about Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes joining Ryan in the F1 Alpine deal, but this is already just SO MUCH). Next thing you know, we get Taylor appearing at a Chiefs game on September 24th and it’s on from there. According to some Chiefs players, Taylor had already attended a game or two unnoticed and unmentioned (supposedly in the owners’ suite) prior to that September 24th game. That’s interesting to note because of all it implies, such as how much the Chiefs/Hunts may have had to do with this whole deal between Taylor and Travis or just how it was clearly a choice with big motivations behind it for her to be seen at that 9/24 game.
Everything then goes AS PLANNED AND ORCHESTRATED for a few months. The public is captivated by the Taylor and Travis showmance and not even thinking much about Joe Alwyn or Matty Healy or any of the negative publicity surrounding Taylor anymore, the Chiefs and the entire NFL are profiting enormously, the popularity of the New Heights podcast is skyrocketing and catching the attention of major networks, every member of the Kelce family and Travis’ inner circle sees their public profile rising and more and more opportunities coming their way, the Eras tour is a history making success and so is the movie, the Chiefs pull off another Super Bowl win…it’s just a glorious, fantastic time when the whole plan is coming together and everyone remotely involved or connected to Taylor and Travis is benefiting and profiting beyond their wildest dreams. During all of this, Taylor is obviously working on TTPD, and everything connected to it, but I guess no one on Taylor’s team is too concerned about that because it keeps her motivated and pacified and it’s only going to make them all even more money so everything is just great, great, great. BUT THEN Taylor shows up at the Grammys drunk, making an ass of herself and announces the release. Now everyone is maybe back to thinking and talking about Taylor and Joe a bit, but it’s still ok because at least they aren’t talking about Matty and the Taylor and Travis show is still getting tons of attention, Travis is getting acting opportunities, all the Kelces are still benefiting in various ways; it’s all still good.
Then TTPD is released, and everything starts to take a turn. People are still talking, but now it’s mostly about Taylor and Matty or about Taylor and Travis, but only about what a great boyfriend Travis is to Taylor and what a perfect couple they are and their hypothetical impending nuptials and future potential offspring, etc. It probably doesn’t help that it’s off-season and there are no Chiefs games where Travis can shine with his football skills to try to bring some of the spotlight back to anything other than him maybe being the future Mr. Taylor Swift. Despite what many Swifties theorize about Travis, I do not for one moment think that’s his aim in life. This man wants FAME. His own mother repeatedly states how much he loves being the center of attention. And sure, he gets a lot of attention right now, but I have a feeling this is not panning out to be what he was hoping for when he signed up for all of this. His podcast is doing great, but its enormous surge in popularity is largely due to Swifties tuning in, hoping to hear a mention of Taylor (yes, I know it was already a very popular podcast – we wouldn’t be here if Travis Kelce had been an unsuccessful nobody, obviously). Everywhere he goes, everything he does, it’s all about Taylor now. Even at KELCE Jam, he was inundated with questions about Taylor. That might not be an issue except this is a man who already had a very big ego and desire to be hyper famous before Taylor Swift entered the picture. It may have seemed like a golden opportunity initially, but I think reality may be setting in for Travis and Co. and this may not have been the best deal for them in the long run. But the Chiefs and the NFL are deep into it now as well and l bet Travis has pressures on him that I would not even want to imagine coming from that side.
Meanwhile we have Taylor out here messing up the plans again, sending secret messages and singing surprise songs to Matty Healy during her sold-out concert tour where she’s added an entire set to imitate Matty and heighten the speculation and discussion surrounding their big “cosmic, tortured romance.” I feel sure she’s still in love with Matty and is absolutely in contact with him. Logically, their friendships and professional circles are far too intertwined for me to believe they would not be in any form of contact throughout all of this. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were already back together. I think it’s highly possible they’ve even been back together since shortly after their breakup last summer and that likely helped fuel the big push to launch the “relationship” between her and Travis the world. That’s another post for another time though and I still haven’t fully drawn my conclusions about that. Very long story short, I think they are all in a great big mess right now and things are taking a toll, and cracks are showing. I think this may all come crashing down around a lot of people very soon, but I’m betting Taylor Swift comes out on top no matter what somehow. Some people are just lucky like that.

2024.05.21 19:31 Valha28 EWW: The Bros

EWW: The Bros
Hello and welcome to episode 98 in a series inspired by u/kamikazeb0y and CinemaSins, where I'll be sinning each and every episode of Gumball.
Quick Disclaimer: I know this is just a children's cartoon and isn't meant to be taken seriously. This, like the show itself, is not at all meant to be taken seriously or considered an actual critique of the show. It is all in good fun. With that out of the way I present you, Everything Wrong With: The Burden!
Gumball: Cossack dance, but there's a problem with it. Darwin: What? [Gumball gets off of his seat, and dances. He repeatedly kicks himself in the face as he does so] I'm...surprised Gumball actually knows the name of this dance. Seems unlike him to care enough to have actually researched the actual name of it. Would have been way more like him to just call it something like "the dance where you fold your arms and kick your legs" or something. But kudos to him for actually going out of his way to learn about something for once, I guess! -1
[Darwin makes an old man face. They laugh again. The bus stops, and Penny gets off] Penny: Thanks! [Gumball sees Penny, and they stare at each other affectionately] Darwin: [Off-screen] And what's your best party trick? [Gumball sticks his finger into a nostril and it comes out through his ear. He wiggles it around, flapping his ear in the process. Penny giggles and walks off] Awwwww, i love that they re-used a snippet of the soundtrack from the iconic scene in The Shell here. I guess that makes that track the official theme of Gumball and Penny's relationship? Hell yeah! -5
Gumball: So, who would you invite? Darwin: Never you mind! Gumball: Oh, come on! Tell me! Darwin: [Blushes] No, you first! Gumball: Oh, fine. [Sing-song voice] But you gotta say yours at the same time. On three. One. Two. Three. Gumball: Penny! Darwin: You! That...was nowhere near the same time +1
[They are both surprised. Darwin is angry and Gumball is shocked] Gumball and Darwin: What?! [The bus stops, and the brothers get off] Darwin: I AM NOT MAKING A SCENE! Gumball: Okay. Darwin: AND I'M NOT JEALOUS OF PENNY! Gumball: Dude, don't freak out. There's enough space in my life for the both of you. [Many Darwins appear around Gumball, crowding him] Darwin: She's crowding us! Darwin: She's suffocating us! Darwin: She's oppressing us! Darwin: She's smothering us! [They all speak at once, disappearing as Gumball interjects] Gumball: Okay, enough! I wanted your opinion on something important, but if it's gonna be like this, then just go home! I need to go to the store anyway. [Walks off] [Darwin's anger turns into sadness, and he begins to sob. Suddenly, he becomes angry again] Darwin: BACK OFF, PENNY FITZGERALD! HE'S MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER! Alright...firstly, was Darwin seriously expecting Gumball to say anyone else than Penny? I mean, he made it extremely obvious that he was imagining this as a romantic get-together, so of course he was gonna pick her +1
Also, what happened to Darwin talking to 'Chris Morris' and working out his issues with Gumball and Penny last episode? Like, he realized he was just overeacting and projecting his own insecurities onto Gumball and that he had nothing to be concerned about. Yet now he's discarded all of that and has gone back to being not only acting like he was before, but even worse. Which begs the question...why include that scene in the last ep if you were just gonna completely ignore it the very next episode? +10
[Darwin stretches his eyes and navigates them around Penny. They watch her from above. Penny soon notices them] Penny: Oh hi, Darwin. Hahahahaha, I love how totally unphased Penny is by this -1
[Later, Penny and Carmen enter the cheerleaders' dressing room, talking] Penny: ...made these funny faces at me through the window of the bus and— Oh, hi Darwin. [All the girls except Penny and Carmen gasp at Darwin, who is up in the ceiling, holding onto two beams. He falls down, runs to an open locker, and applies makeup on his face in an attempt to disguise himself as a girl. Certain that it is not working, he grabs a bottle of powder from Carrie and throws it to the ground, where it explodes into a cloud. As the girls cough, he escapes] Penny: [Coughing] Bye, Darwin. [Even later, Sussie and Penny are sitting on a bench in the schoolyard. From behind a dumpster, Darwin uses a listening device to eavesdrop on Penny] Penny: Here, Sussie. I know how much you love chicken skin, so I saved some from last night's dinner. Sussie: SUSSIE LOVES CHICKEN SKIN! [She grabs some and rubs it all over her head, screaming and laughing loudly. The noise makes Darwin shatter to pieces. Penny and Sussie notice him and walk over] Penny: Hi, Darwin. [The pieces of Darwin scream, sprout legs, and flee] Penny: Aaaand... bye, Darwin. Sussie: CHICKEN! [Penny yelps, startled] [The bell rings. In class, Penny writes on a piece of paper while humming. She grabs her bag to put a book in it. Opening it, she gets startled to find Darwin inside, reading her diary] Darwin: Hi, Penny. Nice, um... diary. Penny: Hey, how about you come to lunch with me and Gumball, seems like maybe you wanna talk, right? [Closes bag with him still inside] Right. [Walks off] Okay, trying to peak into her locker was one thing, but now Darwin is just outright stalking the poor guy. Even with abandonment issues, this is not a normal reaction or response. At all. Darwin needs professional help/therapy now, because he clearly has a lot of pent up emotions and fears he needs to talk to someone about. +20
[In the cafeteria, Gumball has arranged a table for Penny and himself. He takes out a small box, which inside holds a ring. He plans to propose to Penny, but is still deciding on how] How on earth did he affort this ring? It must have cost at least a hundred dollars or more! +1
Penny: So, uh, Darwin, I hope you don't feel... threatened by me, do you? Darwin: [Laughs loudly and sarcastically] No. Penny: Okay, good. Enjoy your food.[They all begin eating. Gumball and Penny share a plate of spaghetti and begin eating the same strand. Romantic music is playing, and a kiss is imminent. The moment is cut short when it is revealed Darwin has started eating the middle of the strand, preventing the couple from kissing. They tug on the spaghetti strand trying to shake Darwin off, but it only causes all three of them to headbutt eachother. They all fall to the floor] Gumball: [Shouting] Dude, what is wrong with you?! Darwin is clearly emotionally distressed at the moment, yet neither Gumball or Penny really do much about it except ask if he's okay or in Gumball's case yell at him. I get that Gumball is excited and happy with Penny at the moment and so his focus would be on her, but it feels out of character for him to disregard his brother so clearly having, essentially, a breakdown right in front of him +5
[In the gym, Coach tries and fails to whistle with her fingers] Coach Russo: Okay, now pick your teams! [Gumball and Tobias start picking, with Gumball choosing first] Wait, wait, wait...Gumball has a pair of gym shoes? He's had a pair of shoes that he could have worn this entire time, but he still chooses to go barefoot? Why!? +1
[Darwin tries to get Gumball to pick him by blowing a vuvuzela and waving around two lit flares, all while jumping up and down] How the fuck was Darwin allowed to bring lit flares into the gym!? Not only is that a safety hazard, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal for him to even be in possession of them. +1
Also, how did he even get the flares in the first place? Again, pretty sure it's illegal for him to buy or own them +1
Gumball: DARWIN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Darwin: [Throws the ball at Gumball] Playing ball!Gumball: She's on our team, man! You're out! Seriously, Gumball responding to Darwin's actions by shouting and berating him, and constantly taking Penny's side, is only pushing Darwin more and more. Whewre's the kind, caring, understanding Gumball we know and love? The one that would be worried and concerned seeing his brother act this way? +1
[In the library, Gumball once again tries to propose to Penny. He emerges from behind a bookcase and walks up to her] Gumball: Penny, there's something I need to ask you. Penny: Actually, there's something I wanted to say as well. Gumball: I know. I totally feel what you feel. Let's say it at the same time. One. Two- Penny: We need some space. [Gumball gasps and makes a shocked face] Penny: It's just... until you guys work it out, I kinda feel bad ruining your relationship. You two have something special, you know. The fact Penny is willing to do this really shows just how caring and understanding she really is. She finally has the one thing shw's wanted for who knows how longer, and couldn't bne happier, but upon seeing that it's damaging Gumball and Darwin's relationship is willing to put it on hold until they sort things out. She's willing to put her own happiness aside for her boyfriend and his brother, and that level of sacrifice just goes to show what a great friend and girlfriend she really is. No wonder Gumball loves her so much -10
Gumball: Ugh. What are you doing? Darwin: Whatever it takes for you to still love me. Is it working? Gumball: If by working, you mean making me nauseous then- [Gags, then cries] But it doesn't matter anyway. Penny's left me! She didn't want to come between us, and it's all your fault! [Faceplants and sobs] No, 'we need space' and 'we're over' and two very different things. She didn't leave you she's just...taking a short vacation from you whilst you sort things out with Darwin +1
Darwin: Uh...I didn't mean to come between you two. I-I-I just wanted to spend more time with you. I'm so sorry. Come here- I mean, you kindaaaaa did. Maybe not consciously, sure, but deep down this is exactly what you wanted and you know it +1
Gumball: Is it weird that I bought a ring and I want to ask her to marry me? Darwin: Well, yeah. That's-that's completely weird. ...no it isn't? It's just Gumball wanting to express his love and desire to be with Penny in the biggest way he can think of. If anything it's adorable +1
Darwin: No, it's not. What if I could give you the perfect setting, the perfect moment? Gumball: What do you mean? [Darwin begins dancing and imitating R&B music] Gumball: Stop it. That...that's weird. Darwin: Mm mm. Come on. Gumball: [Snickers] All right. [Joins in dancing with him] How are you gonna get a log cabin though? Or a lake? Or a chocolate fountain? And how are you gonna get her to come over? Aww, the fact Gumball forgives Darwin so easily for almost ending his and Penny's relationship really shows just how forgiving and caring he is. Like, the fact he isn't even remotely mad anymore in just beyond insane. I don't know anyone else in the world except maybe Alan who is this forgiving -5
[Penny leans down in front of a puddle of antifreeze in front of the shed, sniffing it] Penny: Are your parents aware there's a lake of antifreeze in their backyard? This stuff's really flammable, you know Obvious foreshadowing is obvious +1
Gumball: "Romantic deep male voice. [Speaks in the voice] Welcome to the best night of your life." [Squeaks] [Penny suppresses her laughter] Awwwwww -1
Gumball: [Whispering] Okay. [Inhales] Will you mmmmm... will you mmmm... [Punches himself in the face, frustrated] Urgh! Will you mmm... Darwin: [Outside] Come on man, just say it! Dude, he's nervous as fuck at the moment. You would be too if it were you asking this to Carrie. Give him a fucking chance +1
[Penny drinks her soda and chokes on the ring, changing forms as she coughs] Penny somehow didn't notice Gumball very obviously dropping the ring into her drink earlier +1
[Gumball now has his eyes closed, and so is unaware that she is choking.] I get that he can't see her choking, but how can her not hear it? She's right next to him and pretty loudly choking right. And he's a cat with super sensitive hearing. The only way he wouldn't be able to hear her at the moment is if he was completely deaf +1
[Darwin barges into the shed only to be greeted by Penny in her Gorgon form. He quickly closes the door] Dude, she's fucking choking why on earth would you just leave!? HELP HER. +1
Penny: [Coughing] What did you say back there? Gumball: [Picks up the ring and beams, with flowers surrounding his face] Marry me! And suddenly Gumball now has the confidence to ask her this despite being entirely unable to do so before +1
Gumball: [Teary-eyed] Age doesn't matter when it comes to love.
https://i.redd.it/epm6oyymet1d1.gif
+1
Penny: ...and Gumball. Do you, in the name of the bro-code, bromise to always love and take care of your bro in sickness and in health, brosperity and broverty? Gumball: I do. [Puts ring on Darwin's fin] Penny: You may now high-five the bro. Gumball and Darwin: [High five] Yeah! Okay, this is cute and all and definetely helps reassure and caslm down Darwin, but...your still gonna sit down and talk to him about his issues right? Maybe get him a therapist, that isn't Harold, to talk to about his issues? ...right?
...no? You're...just gonna never speak of this again and leave him to continue suffering silently with these severe abandonment issues all on his own? Okay then. +50

2024.05.21 19:30 84brucew Several States Take Steps to Block a Central Bank Digital Currency

link at bottom:
Several states have taken action over the last two years in an effort to block the implementation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the United States.
Indiana was the first state to pass legislation relating to central bank digital currency. Enacted in 2023, the law explicitly excludes a CBDC from the definition of money under the state's Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). The law amends the definition of money to specify, “The term does not include a central bank digital currency that is currently adopted, or that may be adopted, by the United States government, a foreign government, a foreign reserve, or a foreign sanctioned central bank.”
A similar law was enacted in Florida last year, and this year South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah followed suit. A Nebraska bill repealing the capital gains tax on gold and silver also changed the definition of money in the state tax code to exclude CBDC.
This year, Indiana took a second step to hinder the implementation of a CBDC with the enactment of a measure prohibiting state agencies from accepting payments made with a central bank digital currency for any service, tax, license, permit, fee, information, or other amount due the governmental body. It also bars government agencies from requiring payments to be made with a central bank digital currency.
Additionally, under the law, state government bodies are prohibited from advocating for or supporting the testing, adoption, or implementation of a central bank digital currency by the United States government.
Alabama, North Dakota, and Georgia have passed similar laws.

Impact

It remains unclear how changing the definition of money in the UCC and other steps taken at the state level would play out in practice against a CBDC if the federal government attempts to implement one.
The UCC is a set of uniformly adopted state laws governing commercial transactions in the U.S. According to the Uniform Law Commission, “Because the UCC has been universally adopted, businesses can enter into contracts with confidence that the terms will be enforced in the same way by the courts of every American jurisdiction. The resulting certainty of business relationships allows businesses to grow and the American economy to thrive. For this reason, the UCC has been called ‘the backbone of American commerce.’”
Passage of this legislation would, as noted by one opponent of the legislation, put a CBDC “into the bucket of ‘general intangibles” – rather than money, and wouldn’t ban its use completely.
But it could still potentially gum up the works and make it difficult for the government to fully implement a CBDC.
Opponents of the strategy and supporters of CBDC generally take the position that states can’t do anything to stop a CBDC, since – according to their view – under the supremacy clause “any federal law on this point will automatically override state law.”
We’ve heard this song and dance on other issues before. That’s what they said when California legalized medical marijuana in 1996. It didn’t quite turn out that way.
In the ramp-up to the 1996 vote on Proposition 215, voters were repeatedly told that legalization of marijuana, even for limited medical purposes, was a fruitless effort, since, under the supremacy clause, any such state law would be automatically overridden by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (CSA). At best, opponents told Californians, the state would end up in a costly, and losing court effort.
But despite those warnings, Californians voted yes, setting in motion the massive state-level movement we see today, where a growing majority of states have legalized what the federal government prohibits. Ultimately, the federal government will likely have to back down, even if just to save face, because it has become impossible to fully enforce its federal prohibition over this massive state and individual resistance.
A similar scenario played out in response to the REAL ID Act of 2005. The national ID system still isn’t fully up and running more than 17 years after the “final deadline” for full implementation.
Why not?
Because a significant number of states decided not to participate, drug their feet, or in some cases, simply provide residents with a choice to opt-out. Federal officials have confirmed that state-level roadblocks to implementation are the primary reason for the continuing delays.
“Roadblock” is likely how this and other state-based strategies to oppose a CBDC will play out. This is part of James Madison’s four-step blueprint for how states can stop federal programs.
But, as can be seen so far with issues like marijuana and the REAL ID Act, whether a federal program is implemented or not ultimately gets down to the number of roadblocks put up by states, and more importantly, the willingness of the people to participate, or not.

What Is CBDC?

Generally speaking, digital currencies are virtual banknotes or coins held in a digital wallet on a computer or smartphone. The difference between a central bank (government-imposed) digital currency and peer-to-peer electronic currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum is the value of CBDC is backed and controlled by the government, just like traditional fiat currency.
Governments sell the idea of CBDC by promising to provide a safe, convenient, and more secure alternative to physical cash. We’re also told it will help stop dangerous criminals who like the intractability of cash. But there is a darker side – the promise of control.
At the root of the move toward government digital currency is “the war on cash.” The elimination of cash creates the potential for the government to track and even control consumer spending.
Imagine that all cash disappeared this morning and all that was left was a government-controlled digital currency. You would be forced into doing all business electronically with this government money. It would be impossible to hide even the smallest transaction from the government’s eyes. Something as simple as your morning trip to Dunkin would be known by government functionaries. As Bloomberg put it in an article published when China launched a digital yuan pilot program in 2020, digital currency “offers China’s authorities a degree of control never possible with physical money.”
Governments could even “turn off” your ability to make purchases. Bloomberg described the level of control a digital currency could give Chinese officials.
The PBOC (People's Bank of China) has also indicated that it could put limits on the sizes of some transactions, or even require an appointment to make large ones. Some observers wonder whether payments could be linked to the emerging social-credit system, wherein citizens with exemplary behavior are ‘whitelisted’ for privileges, while those with criminal and other infractions find themselves left out. ‘China’s goal is not to make payments more convenient but to replace cash, so it can keep closer tabs on people than it already does,’ argues Aaron Brown, a crypto investor who writes for Bloomberg Opinion.
Economist Thorsten Polleit explained the level of Big Brother-like government control possible with the advent of a digital euro in an article published by the Mises Wire.
As he put it, “The path to becoming a surveillance state regime will accelerate considerably” if and when governments begin issuing CBDC.
In 2022, the Federal Reserve released a “discussion paper” examining the pros and cons of a potential U.S. central bank digital dollar. According to the central bank’s website, there has been no decision on implementing a digital currency, but this pilot program reveals the idea is further along than most people realized.

2024.05.21 19:30 WanonymousX Anybody never had problems with reading emotions and are animated (show a lot of facial expressions when talking) but still got diagnosed with autism

I have had problems socializing my entire life. I was totally normal in school, played with the kids my age and would spend time outdoors, play video games and all the normal things BUT at some point, maybe age 6, I would start feeling annoyed if I were required to have one on one conversation with people. As you grow, you are required to speak more and play less, and I had a really hard time with this as I can't hold a conversation and had to figure out how to do it, it's not natural at all. I later started getting problems with eye contact, can't focus on what the person is saying and keep eye contact at the same time, thought this wasn't an issue before. Fast forward to today and I have a bunch of issues with socializing with people and keeping in touch with family.
Psychologist first impression was that I don't have autism because I have natural facial expressions and respond naturally by smiling etc, but after several appointments with her, RAADS test of 96 and ADOS test which revealed high score (above cutoff value, so within the autism spectrum), she feels unsure but suspicion of autism is strengthened. She needed to fully review the ADOS results and write a report but we discussed what we know so far and both are confused.

2024.05.21 19:30 rohit_raveendran We tried environment leasing for local microservice development and we learned some things you may relate to (and maybe learn?)

Hey all,
I thought I'd share a story my co-founder shared on his blog a while back. It was about the challenges of local development in a microservices architecture.
Some of you will probably relate to it.
As the number of services and dependencies grows, testing code locally becomes increasingly challenging.
You've probably felt this pain yourself.
There are typically three main problem areas:
  1. Frontend apps are usually easy. Just point them to a test environment and you're good to go.
  2. REST/SOAP APIs are tougher. They rely on databases, caches, and other services. Connecting to all these locally can be a headache. Mocking the dependencies is often tedious and error-prone.
  3. Private RPC services are even more challenging. They're called by other internal services. So to test them locally, you often need to run those other services too. Mocking can help, but it's still a significant hurdle.
The common suggestions were to use ephemeral environments (EaaS).
They spin up separate setups for each developer or pull request.
This approach can scale. But it's complex to implement well.
Routing, service discovery, shared databases, and intricate dependencies add to the challenge.
So, we tried something different.
We used Kubernetes to set up a shared dev environment.
All services run stable, testable versions that mirror the QA environment, and the whole team works together to keep this environment healthy.
Developers work on features locally.
They thoroughly test their changes before merging them into the main codebase.
Tools like Telepresence let developers create a two-way network link between their machine and the remote Kubernetes cluster.
This way, they can develop and debug as if their service was running in the shared environment.
For private RPC services, developers can specially use Telepresence.
They set their service as a "sink," and then they can receive calls from other services in the shared environment.
This makes debugging much simpler and reduces the need for complex local setups.
The shared environment allows concurrent development for frontend apps and REST/SOAP APIs.
However, private RPC services require leasing per service environment. For each service, only one sink can be active at a time.
We did run into some challenges, including handling database schema changes.
We learned that it's important to implement schema changes before starting feature development, and getting those changes into the QA environment early is also quite important.
This helps prevent merge conflicts later.
In the end, EaaS is a valid approach.
But a shared dev environment in Kubernetes, plus tools like Telepresence, worked better for us.
It was more manageable and cost-effective for local development and testing in our microservices setup.
What about you? Have you tried similar approaches? What challenges have you faced in local microservice development? And how did you overcome them?

Why nightmares and ‘daymares’ could be early warning signs of autoimmune disease

An increase in nightmares and hallucinations—or ‘daymares’—could herald the onset of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, say an international team led by researchers at the University of Cambridge and King’s College London. The researchers argue that there must be greater recognition that these types of mental health and neurological symptoms can act as an early warning sign that an individual is approaching a “flare,” where their disease worsens for a period.
5-20-2024 Yoga and meditation-induced altered states of consciousness are common in the general population, study says
Yoga, mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, and other practices are gaining in popularity due to their potential to improve health and well-being. The effects of these practices are mostly positive and occasionally transformational, yet they are known to sometimes be associated with challenging altered states of consciousness. New research by a team including investigators from Massachusetts General Hospital reveals that altered states of consciousness associated with meditation practice are far more common than expected. Although many people reported positive outcomes, that were sometimes even considered transformational, from these experiences, for a substantial

5-20-2024 How are asthma and heart health linked?
Although the heart and lungs are neighbors in your chest, people may think of them as separate entities with unrelated problems. But a growing body of evidence suggests that asthma—one of the most common lung disorders—is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Asthma is a serious chronic disease in which airways are inflamed, often in response to specific triggers. It affects about 25 million people in the U.S., including nearly 5 million children, causing millions of annual visits to doctors’ offices and emergency rooms. “We call these major changes

Menopause marks a significant transition for women, yet understanding its precursor, perimenopause, and its symptoms can be complex. Dr. Stephanie Faubion, director of Mayo Clinic’s Center for Women’s Health and medical director of The Menopause Society, says experiencing perimenopause and menopause can be confusing for some. She says it is not only patients who may find it confusing, but medical providers as well, due to lack of training in menopause management. “Menopause is defined by no menstrual cycle for a year,” says Dr. Faubion.

2024.05.21 19:29 JLSmoove626 CMV: Saying that Texas has higher taxes than California is disingenuous and incorrect

Lets get into it, off the bat:
Property Tax: California 1%… Texas 1.7%
Average home price: California $786,000…. Texas: $307,000
Property tax for average home: California $7,860 annually…. Texas $5,219 annually
Homes in Texas are MUCH cheaper than California, in fact good luck finding a house in any nice area if any major city in CA for less than $1 million. Anyway, that greatly offsets how much property tax you will be paying. Off the bat it costs more to own a house in California, by a strong margin.
Next lets look at income tax, assuming $100K income (which again is low for CA and high for TX)
California: ~ 6.4% income tax plus 1.1% state disability insurance. Yields around $7.5K on 100M
Texas: ZERO state income tax, and zero disability.
Alright, so California’s state income tax burden is about 7.5% higher than TX.
Combined between property tax and income tax you’re looking at about $16.3K for California and only $5,219 for TX.
Now sales tax: California 7.25% - 10.75%…. Texas 6.25% - 8.25%
Again…. Higher
Vehicle taxes: California YES…. Texas NO
Gas taxes: California: $.51/gallon… Texas: $.21/gallon
Some other considerations: Literally everything is cheaper in Texas. Food, groceries, beverages, alcohol, utility water, cost of labor, Etc.
As someone who is from NY and has lived in: NY, CT, CA, TX and FL. I can say, without a single doubt that TX was by far the overall cheapest to live in, where my money went the furthest. Living in NYC and in CA was so absurdly expensive, and the taxes were fucking AWFUL.
Food is California is basically 2x the cost for 1/2 the amount of food compared to TX.
Also - I am fully aware I am comparing different home values (average state values). Comparing comparably based on sq footage, bedrooms and bathrooms, and comparable areas will only work against California. But I’m happy to compare a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom 3,000 sq foot home in Los Angeles or SF to one in Houston or Dallas.
Anyway, CMV

2024.05.21 19:29 chupacabra314 Mini Reviews: small passive bookshelf under $300 for nearfield - Polk ES10 vs Micca RB42 vs Micca MB42XG2 vs Kanto YU5.25

The TLDConclusions
About my setup
The way my desk is positioned I can't have my speakers on stands next to it or mounted on the wall. They have to be on the desk, and I only have space for maximum 8" deep cabinets, so that rules out other popular options, such as the KEF Q150. All speakers were positioned about 42" center to center, toed in at 45deg and angled on 15deg Monoprice wedges. Distance from my ears was roughly 30" and from the wall - about 12". They did not resonate with my desk but did with the wall behind them so after stuffing the ports with socks didn't work, I had to resort to applying a -8dB @ Q=10 EQ at 135Hz to eliminate it. Also, probably due to their interaction with the environment, all of them showed a slight broad dip around 90-100Hz, which probably caused me to miss the resonances in this area that ASR measured on some of these models. All speakers were driven by a Loxjie A30 connected via toslink to my PC, and for music were paired with an SVS SB-1000 sub with its volume and crossover matched to each speaker pair.
About the tests
As I mostly use these for nearfield (I aimed for 60dB at my ears, measured with my phone), the Loxjie rarely went beyond 1/3 of what it was capable of, and the speakers weren't pushed even close to their limits. I typically run multiple slow sine sweeps to figure out where the peaks, valleys, and any other weirdness are. As for the more subjective part, I went through various music genres including EDM, hiphop, classical, jazz, reggae, various heavy metal subgenres, rock, as well as some audiophile albums.
About me
I'm by no means a hardcore audiophile and I'm usually a value shopper - meaning I like to pay for quality but right up to the point where diminishing returns really kick in. I do believe in a lot of the objective features high-end audio offers, but I also think there is a lot of snake oil selling involved, and very often you're paying for quality you can't actually hear. I don't do anything professionally-related to audio but am a geek when it comes to specs and objective measurements.
I'm in my late 30s and I'd like to think my hearing is still pretty good - typically what my ears hear matches measurement graphs to a large extent, but I can't hear anything beyond ~15kHz for example. My preference for frequency response is somewhere between studio flat and the Harman curve, but that depends also on the music genre. Probably goes without saying, but don't take anything I claim here for gospel - listening experience is highly subjective.
THE MINI REVIEWS
Polk ES10 (black, $249 new)
I'll admit these were my first choice to try since they were hands down my favorite visually with the contrasting gold cone and tweeter. They looked good even with the grills on, but of course I opted to leave them off. They would've won best fit and finish too if it weren't for a tiny dab of glue visible on one of the woofers. They were the second smallest of the bunch, with their design contributing to making them look even smaller.
Alas, with regards to sound, I'll place these last out of the four even if they were to cost the same as the Miccas. Overall, they sounded somewhat boring and dry, particularly with female vocals. Noticeable bass rolloff happens all the way up to 100Hz, so you definitely need to pair them with a sub. I set my sub's crossover to 120Hz to blend them in well. I noticed only one resonance at 3kHz but multiple dips - at 280Hz, 1.4, 3.3, 6.6, and 8.3kHz, the latter 3 probably contributing to the boring-sounding female vocals and sparkleless highs. Speaking of the highs, they did extend quite well, and were not fatiguing or laid back. Male vocals also sounded great.
Micca RB42 (very dark brown, $149 new)
Love them or hate them, you can't deny these have a lot going for them. Visually, what struck me was how deep they were - as deep as some medium-sized speakers, like the Kanto YU5.25. On the other hand they are very narrow, so the overall impression is of a much smaller speaker. I love how they look, and they are the only ones that I like better with the grill on - it's a very light mesh, so everything behind it is still clearly visible. Fit and finish was good but not great on mine - everything was well assembled but there were some imperfections on the edges where the front veneer meets the sides. They also come with some foam isolator wedges, so the budget conscious can save some money on buying those separately.
Sound-wise I'd give these runner up out of the four and gold in the 4" category. Like most reviewers, the first time you hear them, they have a wow factor, particularly because of their low-end frequency response - I could hear a decent thump all the way down to 50Hz. If you don't listen to a lot of EDM or hiphop, they are the only ones out of the 4 you can run without a sub. In contrast to ASR's measurements, I didn't catch the midbass overemphasis (see my setup notes), and, actually, I only noticed one resonance at 3.4Hz and one dip at 1160Hz. Out of the 4-inchers the RB42s had the smoothest treble - smooth all the way to the limits of my hearing, with a slight overemphasis around 9.5kHz. The highs, however, were a tad too fatiguing - I had to resort to lowering the volume or adding -1 or -2dB on the Loxjie's treble EQ when listening to heavy metal because my ears would start ringning after an hour of listening.
Still, as a total package, I wasn't able to find anything that can touch these at $150 - they are gorgeous and have a very versatile sound that can make any genre (except maybe heavy metal without EQ) sound great.
Micca MB42X G2 (black, $99 new)
I'll admit I bought these after I already had the RB42 and after watching Zeos' review that claimed they did some things better than the RB42.
Visually, they don't have much going for them besides their small size. I dare say, with the wide front and small cone, they look a bit ugly, especially sitting next to the RB42s. Putting the grills on didn't make things much better or worse. But you can't expect much for $99, can you?
Sound-wise, my hearing disagrees with Mr. Zeos'. I would place their sound somewhere between the ES10 and the RB42. Yes, their bass extension is almost as good as the RB42s, and yes, you could run them without a sub depending on the genres you prefer. They also had a similar resonance around 2.9kHz. However, I did notice some weird inconsistencies in the 3.2-4kHz range - depending on slight variations of the position of my head, I'd hear parts of that range suddenly dip. After that the highs sounded very similar to the RB42's - maybe slightly more uneven, but still as fatiguing.
So my verdict on these is they are fantastic for the money, but I'd skip another Doordash meal and save another $50 to get the RB42s, even if it's just for the looks.
Kanto YU5.25 (black, $229 new)
Yeah yeah, I know these are not the YU4s, which would be a fairer comparison. There are three reasons for this - 1) after looking at ASR's measurements I decided the YU4 wouldn't be good enough to dethrone the RB42; 2) I randomly found these used less than a month for $190 so I couldn't pass them up. And boy am I glad I didn't; 3) They are only 8" deep so they still fit on my small desk.
Visually, the simple minimalist aesthetic works very well. I didn't expect to like them as much as I do. What contributes to this visual impact to a large extent is the great fit and finish - every edge and seam is flawless all the way to the felt-lined port. They certainly lack the cheap feel that the MB42X have.
Sound is where they really shine. It's not a coincidence ASR recommended their powered version. However what I hear slightly differs from their measurements. In the low end, they do roll off fairly early - I can hear noticeable rolloff under 100Hz. You could run them without a sub, but the low end won't be as good as with the RB42s. I did hear the slight midbass dip ASR measured but for me it's only between 200 and 300Hz, not all the way to 900kHz. I also didn't experience the 900Hz resonance they did. Moving up in the frequency range, I did notice the minor resonance at 2.6kHz ASR did but it wasn't bothersome enough to EQ out. After that it's all smooth sailing - the highs are smooth and extend into the limits of my hearing. They have the detail and sparkle of the RB42 but without the fatigue. As a result I can (and do) listen to the Kantos all day long (don't worry I take breaks :) without getting exhausted. I thoroughly enjoy them with every music genre I've tried.

2024.05.21 19:28 sbook274 ZFlip 5 (UK) - Fingerprint Sensor Issues, Screen Lifting & Warranty

Hey all - wondering if anybody has any experience with the below and can help with advice.
My partner's had a ZFlip 5 since release, having come from a Pixel 6 Pro. Absolutely loved it, had one weird issue with screen software that resolved itself but no problems at all.
That is until the other week, when her fingerprint sensor stopped working. Everytime she scanned she got the same error 'fingerprint sensor is currently unavailable'. Tried wiping cache partition, re-registering fingerprints, new software updates. The whole 9 yards.
Booked a repair appointment with Samsung, expecting them to fix the issue sharpish given how brand new it is. instead the staff member has advised its a 'known issue' that Samsung won't cover under warranty, which occurs as a result of the screen shifting (her screen has apparently slightly raised in the middle, not something we noticed). The claim is it happens when people open and close the phone with one hand, which isn't something she does.
Samsung is expecting £314 for a screen and fingerprint sensor replacement. We do have insurance - but it's going to cost a £75 excess to get it claimed.
Anyone have any experience with this issue, or Samsung's ridiculous approach to fixing a basic issue with their device? I've had some slight annoyances with Samsung before, but them claiming a non-functional core piece of hardware after less than a year isn't something they'd cover takes the biscuit.

2024.05.21 19:26 WanonymousX Anybody never had problems with reading emotions and are animated (show a lot of facial expressions when talking) but still got diagnosed with autism

I (f19) and my ex boyfriend (m19) dated for about 2 years. Throughout our whole relationship there was always some issues, like all relationships have, but as time went on there would be times when everything was amazing, and then there would be periods on time when it seemed like everything I did upset him and I was always doing something wrong. He always had a lot of trust issues with me, even though I never gave him any reason to not trust me, he just was never able to fully trust that I wasn’t cheating on him, wasn’t looking for another guy, wasn’t thinking about how much hotter other men were, things like that. Anytime I went to work he asked about every conversation I had with another male and what every little thing we talked about was. He basically could be the only male in my life or he thought something fishy was going on. He would always get mad at me for the smallest things especially near the end. What lead me to break up with him was that I felt like I never made him happy, every day, multiple times a day there was always something that I did that would make him upset. I just felt like I was always making the wrong decisions. He also didn’t let me fully be who I was because he wasn’t accepting of the things I like and wanted to do. It was hard being myself when he didn’t like who I was so much. I was also made guilty for everything that happened. I started hanging out with a group a friends and he made me feel guilty that I liked spending time with them, and that I liked having friends. If there were times I wasn’t in THE MOOD to do something he would get sad and turn away and make me feel guilty that I didn’t want to. Whenever I would try to voice my concerns about our relationship he would turn it on me and make me feel like the bad guy, or would get defensive and get mad at me that I felt a certain way. I was sick of feeling like a terrible person all the time for reasons I should not have, so I broke it off and he started realizing that things he was doing weren’t that good. For a bit it seemed like he could change and get better.
A little bit before I broke up with him, I met this guy from the group of friends I would hangout with, he kind of popped up out of no where and was treating me better than my own boyfriend, he liked me for who I was, he showed me what being accepted felt like, what not getting upset for silly things felt like, it was just a whole new world and it was a little relieving to have around. After we broke up I made some decisions that weren’t my best decisions. My ex boyfriend and I were saying that we could work on us again after we have been alone for a bit and he works on himself. I ended up cuddling with this guy and kissed him once. My ex would ask me if I had done anything with said friend and I was so scared that I lied and I said no. I ended up lying a lot and I regret every single one. I’m not perfect and I’m going to make mistakes and I am certainly not proud of how I handled that situation. Recently my ex went through my phone without me knowing and saw that some things were going on with my friend and he got very upset with me. Which I totally understand I lied and said nothing was happening. He hates me so much he keeps telling me how terrible of a person I am and “fuck you” and just keeps rubbing it in that I hurt him. I know I did he doesn’t need to keep putting salt in the wound. I e apologized which I know isn’t going to make it better, but I’m learning from all of this and I really am going to be alone and work on myself for a while. I’ve never felt worse about myself, I’ve gotten low points in my life but I have never been this low. It doesn’t make it easier when I keep getting told how awful I am and all the shitty things I did.
My ex is telling me that in order for him to not block me I have to cut this friend out of my life for good. It was weird feeling so accepted and loved by someone, it was weird not fighting and getting “in trouble” over small things. It was weird feeling like I actually made someone happy to be around me. I was just getting all confused when a guy came in and was being better than my own boyfriend was. I feel so stuck because with this friend it feels so much more freeing and he’s said he will always cheer me on no matter what, and that he likes me for me and he doesn’t expect me to change for anyone. He’s always going to stay by my side and always makes me feel good about myself. But then there’s my first love, I love him so much and I would love to see things work out between us but the cycle of things I was put in with him were not healthy for me. It was a very manipulative relationship and I would have to cut my friend out which might result in me losing all of my friends.

2024.05.21 19:26 ActuallyACat6 Ansur on tactician

First, not looking for advice. There is already plenty of advice to be found. This is 100% a bitch post. Second, I‘ve beaten Ansur 3 times on Balanced and only had this much trouble the first time when I was figuring out the mechanics. The difference between Ansur on balanced and tactician is insane. He’s one shotting my characters from full health routinely and I’m level 12 using elixirs of electric resistance. I’m using roughly the same team spread I used on balance. The same team took down Myrkul in one try without even cheesing darkness or disarm. I stacked a bunch of smokepowder and it did a whopping 23 damage. Level 6 ice storm and flame strike were doing 13 damage without save. Max magic missile was negligible. I lost count of how many times I reloaded to try different tactics and equipment. On my best try I got him down to 366 hp. For the first time ever I tried the tactic of getting Astarion back to camp to do the resurrection walk of shame with Withers, only to come back and find Ansur fully healed. Finally I gave up. Sorry Wyll. No closure for you this playthrough.

2024.05.21 19:23 Puzzleheaded_Cup2398 Anyone else getting hit hard after inventory?

Just had inventory at our store, and we are getting slammed with two trucks all five days that I worked this week. On Saturday, one was a fully palletized, mostly consumables truck with a majority of pallets being "stock this pallet". Saturday was the only nice day.
On Monday, we simply aren't staffed to unload and stock two trucks. Yesterday I was assigned to break packs (four to five hours) and apparel sort and process (six hours) alone because I'm the only one who knows how to do those on a Monday. Needless to say, not all apparel got hung up.
Not sure when everyone else does inventory, but I am really looking forward to single truck days again.

2024.05.21 19:23 BlackMountainSeptic Extending the Lifespan of Your Septic System

Extending the Lifespan of Your Septic System
Your septic system is a major investment for your home, so it's important to take steps to maximize its lifespan. With proper care and maintenance, you can avoid costly repairs and premature replacement. Here are some tips to help extend the life of your septic tank, pipes, and drains.
Use Water Efficiently
One of the biggest threats to your septic system is overloading it with too much water flow. Make sure to conserve water as much as possible by fixing leaks, installing low-flow fixtures, and spreading out water-intensive activities like laundry over multiple days.
Dispose of Waste Properly
Your septic system is designed to handle human waste and toilet paper only. Never flush non-biodegradable items like feminine products, diapers, paper towels, or cat litter. These can clog your pipes and drain field. Additionally, avoid pouring fats, oils, and grease down the drain as they can solidify and create backups.
Get Regular Inspections
Having your septic tank inspected and pumped out every 3-5 years by a professional is crucial for removing the built-up sludge that doesn't get broken down. This prevents solids from entering and clogging your drain field.
Maintain Your Drain Field
The drain field is where the liquid from your septic tank gets dispersed into the soil. Avoid parking, driving, or building structures over this area, as it can compact the soil and damage the drain lines. Divert surface water runoff away from the drain field as well.
If you ever need septic system service, repair or replacement in Arizona, Black Mountain Septic Services is the company to call at (480) 343-0335. Their experienced technicians provide reliable, affordable septic solutions you can count on.
FAQs
Q: How do I locate my septic system?
A: Most septic tanks have risers at the surface to allow access for inspections and pumping. You can have a septic professional locate your tank if you cannot find the risers. The drain field will be a rectangular area of soil near the tank with no trees, structures or heavy objects on top of it.
Q: How often should I have my septic tank pumped?
A: Most experts recommend having your septic tank inspected and pumped every 3-5 years, depending on the size of your tank and household. More frequent pumping may be needed for larger households.
Q: Are septic additives necessary?
A: Septic tank additives are generally not required for a properly maintained system. Some can even be detrimental by interfering with the biological processes in your tank. Stick to moderate household bleach and detergent use instead.
Don't neglect your septic system! Follow these tips to extend its lifespan and prevent costly repairs. And when you need reliable septic services in Arizona, contact the professionals at Black Mountain Septic Services by calling (480) 343-0335 or visiting www.blackmountainsepticservices.com.

2024.05.21 19:21 MerkurSchroeder NDD: Target Exo 02 (22g, 90% Tungsten)

NDD: Target Exo 02 (22g, 90% Tungsten)
It was pretty clear from the start that the Exo 02 is the highlight of Target's new range, but it's also not as easy as I thought. On the setup picture with the Iron Maiden flights you actually see me using 30mm Storm Points, but whilst short stems and No.2 flights (or Velos) are currently a common theme on my front tapered darts, having kept points stock so far never raised the question if those are a length I prefer.
For the Exo 03 that was different. Despite ordering 30mm Firepoints because I couldn't find any longer ones, I've since then put on 35mm standard points anyway and searched the web up and down until I actually found a shop still offering two sets of 35mm Firepoints for almost the same price I had to pay for the single set of shorter ones before. I hope the shop is reliable, because my gut told me from the beginning I want the longer points and finger grip on the 03.
Gazing at more expensive front tapered darts like the Target 975 and what players made from it, it was of course imperative to create a smooth transition using Storm Points on the Exo 02. I like to look into the extremes, so putting on 35mm ones was the initial idea, but you might be able to tell from the two board pictures it didn't feel as perfect as it should. The third dart's points weren't always sneaking through the gap, but it wasn't easy to create the same snug groups like when the Harrows Shard90 slide and tilt for instance.
What I've noticed from the first moment though is the shark grip in the front makes more sense on the Target Exo 02 than I thought it would. Especially knowing a micro grip from the mentioned Shard90, which does help in its context, the Exo 02 do feel more like I've got more or less the same grip level all along the barrel inviting me to switch finger positions to whatever seems to create the perfect throw for the target. They probably might not have been able to achieve that with a ring grip on the taper.
Excited as I was, I've put on some 26mm Storm Points on the Exo 02 to find out it puts the dart right in line with my other front tapered darts and I can play them well, but it doesn't make it stand out either. Just that little extra going up to 30mm Storm Points makes a great change with the darts seeking for the treble on their own.
I could have stopped there, having created a nice setup for a brilliant entry level 90% tungsten Swiss Point dart whose only competitor at Target might be the Crux 02, which will cost a tenner more if not on sale. You'd have to tell me if that extra smooth section as a reference in the middle and shark grip in the rear make it worth it, but if you own it, you might not really require a rather similar barrel, even if it's weighted in even numbers this time.
What still keeps my mind busy is, if those 35mm points, as ridiculous as they make the dart look, might just require some more getting used to, as of course I've only played longer points on drop shaped or rather straight barrels so far. Especially as I've still got the Johnny Clayton 2.0 on my wishlist and as those come stock with long points, it might actually rule them out if that wouldn't work for me on a 22g Exo 02, wouldn't it? And who knows, maybe I'll soon have to repoint my existing darts instead? So I might be mounting the 35mm Storm Points again the minute after posting this. 😬
How do you like the Target Exo 02?
I know some of you love them - looking at you u/No_Seaweed7777 😁
Have a nice week and thank you for reading.
Happy darting! 🎯👍

2024.05.21 19:21 ogre_tampon Getting high on frankincense and myrrh- a rare treat

Hey guys. I thought somebody else may have done this before, and you could give me recommendations on how to improve the experience.
So basically, I had frankincense in my diffuser, and huffed it for a long time because the smell was amazing, and i started to feel kind of light headed and glowy. I also have myrrh, and out of sheer boredom chewed one piece of resin. It was a beautiful spring day, and I felt that everything was just a little honey toned and glowing outside. Everything was vivid, I spent ages looking around town, fascinated by trinkets and people and leaves, fully at peace, but my head was fully on my shoulders, even though I was laid back and 'glowing'.
There was also an occasion where a girl asked me to meet up and cancelled whilst I was on the way, so I stopped at a random town in between and met a man at the bus stop, who told me about a tea of frankincense, myrrh and mugwort. His name was Geoff, he was quite old, from a belgian british family, we drank for a while.
For me, frankincense has the best smell, and myrrh has the strongest effects. Not too much, or you'll get a headache, but myrrh is amazing. I haven't done it in about a year, but I was wondering if anyone else here likes to consume myrrh, and how you can improve the experience?

2024.05.21 19:17 Sasquatchtration A response to the "I failed XYZ exam" - you only fail if you give up.

I've been in the Salesforce ecosystem for the better part of 2 decades and now have 12 certifications - while it has been an awesome and rewarding journey, it definitely hasn't been a straightforward one.
By now we mostly know that certs aren't the end all, be all for success in the arena but it is absolutely a strong signal to potential employers that you take your education and career progression seriously by investing in your own knowledge and skillset. Just wanted to give folks a view of what the journey to 12x certified could look like:

2024.05.21 19:16 WanabeInflatable Writing RR/matriarchy fiction for fun?

It is difficult to find real life RR relationship. Especially not an option if you are already taken. There are various vents and one of them - reading or writing fiction. There were topics about RR in scifi written by prominent authors. But how about you? Do you write or maybe have ideas for fantasy setting or world-building? Please share.
Couple examples from me:
Setting 1. Right man in the wrong time
In XXI century experiments on recording human personalities started, a lot of people were "read" and saved on hard-drives, but there were no technology to create artificial bodies for them. So the personalities of test subjects, volunteers and commerical clients remained stored. In parallel genetic treatment research lead to tech that could exteng lifespan, but unfortunatelly it had side-effects of higher risk of cancer for men. As a result this tech only worked well for women. Because of that a lot of parents started to chose female gender for their kids, as their daughters could live much longer than sons. This shifted gender balance and led to female-dominated society. Which sort rewritten history portraing the past of male-dominance in shades of black and all the men of the past as abusive, power-hungry despots. It was backed by statistical facts such as drop in crime rate with reduction of male population.
Eventually the anti-male campaign receded and some interest and curiocity towards men returned, but there were few men left and they were often too spoiled and not very attractive. So there was a high demand for men in various spheres of, well, entertainment. Besides of lack of supply there was a conflict between romantized image of primal men and fear that their brute force may be too disruptive in a disarned pacifist decadent society. A commercial solution was found - a company manufactured artificial male bodies that were looking hot and attractive, big in all the right places, yet lacked the brute force, were very light and designed to be harmless to women. Even a teenage girl could easily overpower them. They used the stored consciousness of men from XXI century and put these men into new artificial bodies. Bodies were not cheap, so the resurrected men owed a big loan to the company and had to work basically for free to pay off the debt...
Story is about a girl who rented such a guy as a birthday present for herself. She had to return him soon, but they figured out that his knowledge can help her a lot with her studies. Despite some technological advance, few people of her epoch can really understand principles behind the science - they can use it, maybe replicate, but not understand or advance.
So besides a romatic affair they can work together to help her and studies and suddenly a "genius", once she makes a career and earn some money - she can pay off his debt. And until then - rent him from time to time for both pleasure and studies.
-- I liked the story but it is long abandoned --
Setting 2. Purple letter
Every invention can be used for evil. So called Selena transformation was quickly adopted by shady brothels - it allowed to transform women in ideal sex-slaves or walking sex-toys. Very attractive perfect bodies, not aging, able to move and speak, but weak and helpless, easily stored after "work shift" and unable to run away. This was of course against law, but went under radar for a while, a ot of women were converted against their will. Then one of them escaped with the help of a client who smuggled her from a brothel and was eventually killed by thugs. Nevertheless, she managed to get help went to TV. She told her story and that caused a huge impact. Police raided brothels and found thousands of victims... A lot of people went to jail, but public outrage shifted from those who run these illegal dens to those who paid for their services and were silent... This caused a political shift and a lot of blame by association.
Some male politicians, celebritites decided to voluntary undergo Selena transformation. This way they demonstrated solidarity with female victims and scored a lot of points. This was good for career and removed the burden of "male guilt" from them. This made them physically weak and thus not dangerous to women anymore. Also reduced their individual carbon footprint. Last but not least - change made them look more sexy.
Some militant feminists and these male allies gained more political power and pushed mandatory transformation for jailed criminals. Reducing their danger and also reducing costs of prisons. Transformation of men went to industrial scale: it reduced crime and also was "green". Eventually it become mandatory and special comission decided who and when must come to the tf-hospital and be transformed. They sent men so called "Purple letters" - instruction to come up and pass transformation. Job perspectives were sour for remaining "organic" as insurance discounts motivated business to fire organic men and only hire transformed, because they were safer for women.
Also transformed that didn't volunteer require a "guardianship" of a woman. Such as wife, girlfriend or female boss. If there is no such woman - guys are sent to adoption centers that are nicknamed "boyshops".
Plot of the story is about two friends that were transformed and soon adopted by two ladies. Not for "fun", or at least not just for fun. Ladies run a business and required some new employes, they figured that the can just purchase two guys instead of hiring them...
-- This story contains 4 chapters so far but is also on hold, not much readers' interest --
Just wanted to share the settings and hopefully read some RR-fantasy setting ideas you guys have

2024.05.21 19:15 rayfound What I have learned along the way

I wanted to take a few minutes to highlight a few things I think that don't get talked about a lot, things that I have picked up along the way making cocktails at home. Maybe it gives some others some good ideas, and maybe you'll chime in with your things that made cocktails easiecheapebetter.
Many of these are not original ideas per se. Not claiming credit for any, just advocating for them.
  1. Fruit syrups: Whether its about using up excess fruit, making the most of some underripe/overripe/scraps, or just getting a new flavor profile - I am struck with how easy it is to just take most any fruit/berry, combine with equal weight of sugar in a mason jar, lightly muddle and leave in the fridge for 24-48 hours. Then simply strain and keep in fridge. Seems to keep without degradation for at least a week or two. Blackberries for me are always hit or miss on being delicious or bland and sour... but even the ones that don't hit the mark as fresh berries make an awesome berry syrup.
  2. Orgeat: "Make and drink" 60-second orgeat from youtube is just an incredibly easy way to make top tier orgeat. It's great because it also allows you to make Macadamia or other nut orgeats with the same format. It costs about the same as 1-2 bottle from liber and co to get started, but you can make almost infinite orgeat.
  3. Syrup/Superjuice storage: I love the idea of the "Crew" bottles... storing syrups and juice in Glass containers that are easily cleaned in dishwasher? Awesome. $20 a bottle? not awesome. My solution? "Mason Jar Pouring lids" or whatever they are called. Come in regular and wide: https://imgur.com/a/us7t7tb - I have and use lots of mason jars, but hate pouring from them as there are always drips and a mess on the rim. These things to me are basically everything I wanted from the Crew bottles at a fraction of the price and more versatility. Only thing I don't like is they use a silicone gasket you have to be careful not to lose - I wish they were self sealing like the plastic mason jar "Leakproof" lids. I also love that I can then choose jar size to the specific to the thing I want to store.
  4. Prebatch/Portable cocktail/juice storage - Liquor bottles. I save my empties and reuse exactly once. I don't bother cleaning out the bottles - being alcohol they don't get moldy or anything, and then just fill them when needed. Once they've had the second use - I don't feel bad just tossing them in the recycling after.
  5. Superjuice/Acid Adjusting - Super juice is great for lemon/limes and just getting more output, stability, etc... but maybe my favorite thing is using that format to make acid-adjusted super mandarin juice, or acid adjusting pineapple juice, etc... the fun that can be opened up by swapping in orange or pineapple for lemon/lime in cocktails is really great. Flavors can change but balance stays the same.
  6. Make sugar syrups in jars: I don't like doing dishes. Coupled with the jar storage lids above, I find mason jars about the perfect vessel to make AND store the sugar syrups (I keep both turbinado and lightly processed white cane syrups on hand)... My method is simple: I put the mason jar on kitchen scale and fill about 2/3 with sugar. Then I tare scale and add 50% (2:1 Syrup) to 100% (1:1 syrup) of boiling water from the kettle. Stir with a spoon. For larger granular sugars, particularly in 2:1 ratio, I will often bump temp up again while stirring using microwave. Be careful not to boil or it makes a mess.
  7. Infinity rum bottle - Great way to keep the cabinet with some room. I keep one bottle that i just dump the last 1-2oz into. The blend varies and changes over time but it has never been bad, and generally makes a great all purpose tiki/mai tai blend. If your primary spirit is something else besides rum, try it with that. I don't bother tracking or calculating what is in the bottle.
  8. View recipes as templates, not specifics. This kind of combines the ideas in #5 and #1 - but have fun and experiment! Use recipes as a template but swap out ingredients to fill the roles, examples - I made an awesome "mai tai" format fall drink https://www.reddit.com/Tiki/comments/1746d9a/apple_of_my_tai/ I also have a lot of fun on a drink that is inspired by the Brazilian roasted-pineapple with cinnamon dessert: Use a daquiri as a template:
2 - Cachaca 1 - Lime-adjusted Pineapple juice .75 - Cinnamon Syrup (optionally add whipped egg white/pineapple foam)
Okay - now I hope to hear your inspiration!
Cheers.
