2024.05.21 15:26 cookus Grateful for this Community

Hi everyone
I am a dad to a recently diagnosed daughter and I am really grateful to have found this sub. Reading through some of the posts over the past few days has given me some perspective and some more ways to converse with my daughter about her ED. I wanted to share our family journey to help in any way it might help, and also to continue to help shape my way to thinking to support my girl. My world.
Since my daughter (11) was born, mealtime has been a challenge. My girl would throw a fit, she would take forever to breastfeed, she would always have the biggest meltdowns during dinner time. Breakfast and lunch were never too much of an issue, for a long time she loved breakfast foods - pancakes, waffles, croissants, pastry in general. She also had always loved fruits and vegetables, blueberries and peas for days. However, meat was absolutely out of the question - except bacon and sometimes salmon. Dinner was pure nightmare. It was all my wife and I could do to keep ourselves sane. We often time would rush to just get through the meal and get to bedtime. For the most part, when she was a toddler and a bit beyond, her mother and I just thought she was a very picky, maybe a bit spoiled only kid syndrome.
Things started to get more challenging as she got older, she would fixate on one type of food - red bean tacos (beans, cheese, romaine), waffles with whipped cream, Annie's Mac & cheese, her aunt's grilled cheese. It started to really become a problem when she would insist in eating only one kind of food, prepared in a very specific way, by a very specific person. Still, we thought she was just really picky and a bit bratty.
My daughter is amazing. Super smart, artistic, empathetic, great to her friends, I love to run errands with her because of the conversations and insights we get into. She knew she was being "difficult", she hates wasting food, she tells us that she just doesn't like eating and food does not excite her. From two foodie parents, that was devastating.
It has come to a head this year. She missed a few days of school and fell a little bit behind. For a typical top achiever, she normally would have caught up in a day or two, but she couldn't this time. Her anxiety became too much and she shut down. For a week, she only ate bread and drank water. We got in to see her doctor and received the ARFID diagnosis. I was able to get her a therapist and she has been making some great strides over the past few months. We have had some really good conversations that have shed light onto her thinking. She has her ups and downs, some days have sucked, others have been awesome. We will keep working together to be in control, instead of being controlled. Anxiety lies.
Thank you to this community. It helps as a parent to know there are people doing well, to see struggles and successes, to know that it will get better and worse at times. My heart goes out to everyone here, from one dad to the community.

2024.05.21 12:31 Weird-One8451 Did I do something wrong?

My first best friend, who I'll call Melissa, and I met in kindergarten and were both 5 at the time. We both looked and smiled at each other. That was the day we became friends and it was the most happiest day of my childhood. I sat next to her and we were hanging out with each other every day.
We would do so many things at school with each other. We would sit on the carpet to play with the items the teacher put out for the class each morning. We would always do fun activities in the gym. We would sit at lunch, laugh about funny things we told each other, and hang out at recess every day. My favorite moment was when we were on the swings to see who would go the highest and just look at each other and smile. We did go to other parts of the playground but the swings was our favorite.
When we weren't in a classroom together with our teachers due to them having a different assigned classroom, we would still hang out in lunch and in recess because they released everyone at a certain time by grade level. For example, if we were in 1st grade and students were in a different classroom, the 1st graders would all be released at the same time while the other students in different grades remained in the same classroom. So even if Melissa and I were in different classrooms, we would always meet up and have a great time.
In 3rd grade, I found this girl who I'll call Leah. Leah and I would do pretty fun things together since we were in the same classroom and were hanging out with each other, but I'd still go and hang out with Melissa sometimes. I introduced Melissa to Leah and we basically became a friend group, or at least I thought it was a friend group.
During this time I was constantly having to pick sides with some of our things we were making up as kids. First, it was who I was to sit with at lunch. (Sometimes I wasn't lucky enough to sit with either of them because of a rule where we had to sit in a boy-girl pattern to apparently make everyone quieter during lunch time.) Then it was with some group or clan we made up during recess, Melissa was in "unicorn squad" and Leah was in "girl squad" (I made up the name of girl squad.) I would try to bring them both together but Melissa's friends and Leah's friends didn't get along too well. I had no other best friends besides the both of them and it kinda broke my heart to see them not get along as well as I was with them. Then on a very traumatic day in fourth grade that I still regret for the rest of my life, Melissa and Leah both came up to me and said "You have to pick one best friend." I said I wanted them both to be my best friends but Leah kept pushing that I only pick one. Then we made up a stupid contest to see who would win (my idea) and I was a little tired of it and made Leah win. I have never seen such a sad look on Melissa's face when we were about to leave for home. I ran after her and apologized, I tried to comfort her and I think it worked since we stopped the argument.
Later on in the year of 4th grade, Melissa and Leah had some new friends they were hanging out with. I was fine with it at first, but seeing as their friends were experiencing many joyful moments with my best friends without me, I grew hatred towards their friends. I became jealous of what they were doing. I tried everything as a 9 year old girl could possibly do to keep the relationship going between me and my best friends. I still sat with both of them at lunch and joined them in recess. When they were busy hanging out with their friends, I was left alone, wandering around the playground, doing the things my best friends and I used to do but alone this time. It became depressing just thinking about memories of me and my friends playing together in the past and having fun. Now I had to have fun but alone as I watch my best friends have fun with theirs instead of me. I became even more depressed and angry seeing other random friendships because they were having fun and not me. I felt so alone, hurt, betrayed, so much emotion. This grew into more extreme hate towards the friends of my best friends.
In 5th grade, I did everything I could to have fun with them, but for some reason, something felt off. We hung out less. We didn't sit at lunch every day. Then I found out something shocking. Leah was hanging out with other girls who would give her lunch money, (I gave her lunch money for quite a long time now so we would get snacks with my money I gave her) and was making videos with these girls. I then hated the girls because apparently in my mind, they were controlling and possessing my friend. They stole her away from me. Leah and I still hung out and I considered her my friend because I didn't understand the concept of being used for money. Leah would always invite me to make videos but I wasn't comfortable. I realized how much of a fake friend she was but I still gave her a chance to change but never happened. I went to hang out with Melissa more after this but this felt a bit off too. She was hanging out with this one girl a lot. She seems pretty happy to be with her instead of me more. Melissa was into anime and I wasn't, so that drifted us apart but I didn't see it. I wasn't really into any of my best friend's interests because I was still depressed and full of rage against these girls. I grew to hate everyone and everything and I only wanted to be with Melissa.
It was near the end of the year when I went to go with Melissa in the playground where we always used to go, the swings. She constantly kept moving away, switching swings of just walking away from me. This hurt a lot coming from a close friend like her. I went to hang out with Leah because I still had no friends besides the two of them. Leah as well, left me behind and I was there alone again. All this just fueled my anger against everything. I hated other people, I hated activities, I hated everything, including myself. I thought this was weird since I didn't express my hate that badly towards these other girls, although I did want them to through horrible and horrendous things because in my mind, they were stealing my friends. They took away the people who made me happy. I was getting worse from my mental health because I wanted nothing but my happiness and my best friends back. I had a few thoughts of kidnapping my best friends so they could be with me forever. I would be happy and experience all the happy moments we would share together again. It was pointless anyway because I was just a 10 year old and couldn't do anything.
During these final months before everyone was all homeschooled for a year, I noticed whenever I tried to be with Melissa, she moved away from me again. I tried many times to catch up with her but she continued moving away. I thought absolutely nothing of it because of a funny joke by the teachers saying we hung out too much and we should be separated. I found it funny because at the time, our friendship was strong and I thought nothing would ever separate us from having fun. So I just thought about it as if she was playing around with that joke. I gave up catching up after Melissa because I was tired and I thought she was playing the joke on me. It turns out, I overheard something she said and she said I was too clingy. I didn't know what it meant and I thought she said a funny word and thought nothing of it. Later on she asked me for a break. I said that it was fine and I thought she meant a break for one day (I thought breaks were meant to be short at the time) and we left each other alone.
It came a few days later where she said she didn't want to be my friend anymore. I then went to hang out with Leah, who I didn't hang out with for a long while, said she also didn't want to be friends with me anymore. I was broken by their words but I just thought it was all a joke to me, because I thought it was dumb to unfriend someone for hanging out with them every day.
Fast forward to 6th grade where we were homeschooled for a year, I was full of hope that I was going to be friends with Melissa again after a long time. Then came 7th grade where I was 12 and I continued to sit with her at lunch again, but this time I felt nothing. There were no fun conversations like we usually had back in elementary. I just felt like I wasn't meant to be there. I still felt the same loneliness, rage, and sadness back like I was in 5th grade. That's when I finally realized I was no longer her friend, and I had so much hate in myself for taking a year to realize I had been blind to all of this. I never felt so much sadness like that in my life. The two friends I had left me, I was really depressed by this reason, and now I constantly question myself wondering what I did wrong. I still grovel over them both. It's been a few years now. Did I do something wrong?

🔗Coleman Roadtrip 24" Portable Electric Griddle with Folding Steel Legs and Integrated Lid

https://preview.redd.it/htxmtcr99r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dec53cffb2d0903bfec3316ad5dd768ea30b06c
Imagine having a portable griddle that you can take on all your camping adventures, effortlessly cooking up a storm of delicious meals in the great outdoors. That's exactly what the Coleman Roadtrip Griddle XLT provides, with its easy-collapsing steel scissor legs that make for a smooth transition from storing to cooking and quick setup.
It's the ultimate companion for your camping needs, featuring a 24-inch cooking surface that heats up to 20,000 BTUs - more than enough to cater to a crowd and evenly heat your food. The smooth, rolled carbon steel griddle cooktop pre-seasoned to prevent rust offers an efficient cooking experience, making it a breeze to clean up afterwards thanks to the removable rear grease tray.
Now, while it's a fantastic piece of equipment for outdoor cooking, it does have a few drawbacks. Its weight and size might pose a challenge when trying to transport it, especially when you're not in the midst of a spacious camping area. Plus, you'll need to dedicate some time and patience to maintaining the griddle after each use – a task that even the most seasoned barbecue enthusiasts might find a bit daunting.
Overall, the Coleman Roadtrip Griddle XLT offers a fantastic combination of portability, versatility, and power, making it the perfect addition to your camping inventory. However, be prepared to tackle some minor challenges along the way, such as its bulkiness and the time-consuming maintenance processes.

I recently took the Coleman Deluxe Camp Grill on a camping trip with my friends. We were excited to try out this grill, as it seemed like a simple and convenient option for cooking over a campfire.
One of the first things we noticed was how sturdy and well-built it was. It's made from nickel-plated steel, which gave us confidence in its ability to handle the heat and the elements. The grill can be used either standing over the flames or laid flat on top of the fire, which was a useful feature that we appreciated.
Now, let's talk about the drawbacks. The grill has two sizes of holes, and we found that the larger ones were too big, causing our burgers to fall through when we were trying to flip them. We also thought it would be better if all the holes were the same size, as it would have made cooking more efficient.
Despite these minor issues, the Coleman Deluxe Camp Grill was a convenient and reliable option for our camping trip. It was easy to transport and fold up flat for storage, which made it a great choice for traveling. Overall, we were happy with our experience using this grill and would recommend it to others looking for a simple and convenient cooking tool for camping trips.

🔗Coleman Fold N Go Portable Grill: Perfect for On-the-Go Cooking

https://preview.redd.it/qp6edj0a9r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b06dfea0c3bff8f6e96b5928e1c7f88d9cb6aaa
I recently tried the Coleman Fold N Go Portable Grill, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer for my outdoor cooking adventures. As a busy mom who loves to cook, this little grill proved to be perfect for my on-the-go meals.
The first thing that stood out to me was its built-in handle, which made it incredibly easy to transport and store. The design was compact and lightweight, making it an ideal companion for weekend camping trips or a quick dinner on my deck.
The InstaStart button was a highlight of my experience. Say goodbye to lighting a match or dealing with a lighter – this grill fires up with just the push of a button. Plus, the adjustable horseshoe burner allowed me to have precise temperature control, ensuring my burgers and hotdogs turned out perfectly cooked every time.
However, there were a couple of downsides. The grill wasn't the most durable, with a few users reporting issues with the lid latch. Additionally, the porcelain coating on the grate was not as sturdy as I would have hoped, which made it more challenging to clean up after use.
Overall, the Coleman Fold N Go Portable Grill is an excellent option for those looking for a small, portable grill for their adventures or to use at home. With easy-to-use features like InstaStart and a adjustable burner, this grill makes outdoor cooking a breeze. But, potential buyers should be aware of the durability issues and the need to handle the grill with care.

🔗Compact Portable Coleman Instastart Grill for Outdoor Cooking

https://preview.redd.it/9q9r5nka9r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84947834d2eb7c21a79690910fc8b86e5baafc29
The Coleman Instastart Propane Party Grill was designed to bring the party anywhere; with its compact and lightweight design, this grill is perfect for tailgating, camping, or just hanging out in the backyard. One of its highlights is the 8,000-BTU burner control system that offers a perfect touch of heat, whether you're cooking up some steaks or just toasting some marshmallows.
The grill itself is easy to assemble and even easier to clean. The components are dishwasher-safe, making your post-cooking chores a breeze. I especially loved the feature that allows the legs to detach and fit inside the grill for easy storage and transportation.
Despite its many merits, there were a few drawbacks. Firstly, the grill's surface is prone to sticking and food could roll off quite easily. Additionally, the grill's performance varied; in some instances, the heat was unevenly distributed. The grill top, too, was a disappointment; the supplied one was too small and didn't fit properly.
In conclusion, the Coleman Instastart Propane Party Grill is a convenient and portable solution for those who want to grill or cook on-the-go. While it could use a few tweaks, such as a better grill top and even heat distribution, overall it does its job and makes for a fun addition to any get-together.

🔗Coleman Roadtrip Steel Portable Griddle: Versatile, Powerful Outdoor Cooking Solution

https://preview.redd.it/1fmhobra9r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d6806264412569f67d2744b5209184d5fe76e23
During my recent camping trip, I decided to bring along the Coleman Roadtrip Steel Portable Griddle, which I had heard great things about for its versatility and ease of use. I was particularly drawn to its 19-inch rolled carbon steel griddle cooktop, as it promised to cook up to 10 hamburgers at once with a whopping 14,000 BTUs of power.
Setting it up was a breeze; the scissor legs folded down effortlessly, and the two sturdy wheels made transportation an absolute cinch. I found the cooking surface incredibly smooth, which made flipping burgers a breeze. The griddle performed admirably, cooking evenly across its surface, much to my satisfaction.
One aspect that stood out, however, was the product's cleanliness. Its smooth surface proved a snap to clean, while the removable grease tray ensured a mess-free experience both during and after cooking.
Despite the initial assembly struggle mentioned by a reviewer, overall, I found the Coleman Roadtrip Griddle to be a fantastic choice for campers and backyard enthusiasts alike. The combination of its easy transport, even cooking heat distribution, and quick start mechanism make it a standout among portable griddles. My only caveat would be its weight, which while not a deal breaker, can make it a tad cumbersome to maneuver alone.

🔗Smokeless Electric Grill by Gotham Steel - Luxurious Grilling Experience

https://preview.redd.it/uy8w6h9b9r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85fc336ce039792ba4b244e2017c8fb922be0bc3
I recently tried the Gotham Steel 1619 Smokeless Electric Grill and was thoroughly impressed with its capabilities. Its large size and brown color made it a perfect addition to my kitchen, and it was easy to maneuver around thanks to its lightweight design.
One of the most outstanding features of this grill is its smokeless technology, ensuring that my kitchen was always free of the usual grilling smoke. The electric heating element cooked my food evenly and quickly, while the non-stick surface made cleaning a breeze.
However, there was one downside to this otherwise fantastic grill - its size. While it's great for large gatherings, it can be quite bulky and take up a significant amount of counter space.
Overall, the Gotham Steel 1619 Smokeless Electric Grill is a fantastic kitchen appliance that offers fast, even cooking with minimal mess. Although its bulkiness may be a drawback for some, it's a small price to pay for its impressive performance and ease of use.

🔗Portable Coleman Grill for Camping and Outdoor Adventures

I recently tried out the Coleman Portable Propane Grill during a camping trip, and I have to say, it made cooking in the great outdoors a breeze. I loved how versatile this grill is; perfect for camping, hunting, or tailgating. The heat output was impressive, with 11,000 BTUs of power across the 180 square inch grilling surface.
One of the features that really stood out to me was the PerfectHeat technology. It ensures efficient cooking using less fuel, which is great when you're out in the wilderness. The PerfectFlow technology also shines in extreme conditions, providing consistent performance across all weather scenarios.
Another handy feature was the WindBlock panels that help shield your flame from the wind. However, during calmer days, they fold down easily to serve as side tables. The removable grease management system is also a plus, making cleanup a breeze.
One thing I noticed wasn't perfect was the durability of the grill top. I had heard warnings about it, but mine unfortunately warped after just a few uses. This resulted in it being unable to close properly.
Despite this minor setback, the Coleman Portable Propane Grill proved to be a reliable and convenient companion for our outdoor adventures. It's perfect for creating the ideal meal, anywhere and anytime.

🔗Cuisinart Smoke-Less Contact Griddler: Versatile Indoor Griller for Delicious Grilled Meals

https://preview.redd.it/h3r3vexb9r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd762ff30dc9809ce07d5e038cd024531705a028
I recently had the pleasure of using the Cuisinart GR-6S Contact Smoke-Less Mode Griddler in my own kitchen. Honestly, it brought a whole new dimension to my indoor grilling game. The smokeless feature made grilling indoors a breeze without filling my apartment with smoke.
One of the first things I noticed was the adjustable temperatures. It made it incredibly easy to get the perfect sear on my steaks, evenly brown my pancakes, and cook each dish to perfection without overcooking or undercooking. The LCD display and digital controls were quite user-friendly and made selecting the desired temperature a snap. Yet, there was a bit of a learning curve in the beginning.
Now, the highlight of the Griddler was the DuoControl Heating Advantage. I could independently control the temperature on the upper and lower plates. I used this to cook a variety of dishes like fish, poultry, and veggies. However, it did require some trial and error to figure out the ideal temperatures for each dish.
I also loved the removable drip tray and the nonstick dishwasher-safe plates. Cleanup was a breeze, which was a great thing considering how much I used the griddler. The capacity was fairly small, but as I said, it was made to handle a couple of sandwiches at a time.
However, there were a couple of issues. Firstly, the bottom plate didn't cook evenly when both the top and bottom had the same temperature. To fix this, I had to play around with the temperatures to get the right results. Also, the cooking surface was quite small, but considering its compact design, it made sense.
The construction was sturdy and, in fact, exceeded my expectations. The silver color made it a great addition to my kitchen, adding a certain visual appeal. The appliance held up well against daily use, proving to be quite durable. However, the design was a bit of a challenge to understand right out of the box.
Overall, I found the Cuisinart GR-6S Contact Smoke-Less Mode Griddler a joy to use. It added a touch of innovation to my grilling routines and was a great addition to my kitchen appliances collection. Even with its minor flaws, it certainly delivered in terms of quality and performance.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Brookstone Indoor, Outdoor Electric Grill. It's been great as a home grilling solution since it doesn't require charcoal or propane. My first time using it, I grilled some chicken, and the flavors just popped.
The two heating zones provided precise temperature control, allowing me to achieve that authentic grilled taste. However, I found the cleanup process a bit challenging as grease collected in the drip tray, making it a hassle to keep everything clean. Regardless, the grill's stainless-steel design and sleek outdoor cover made it a worthwhile addition to my outdoor cooking setup.

I recently tried out the Coleman PerfectFlow InstaStart Gas Grill for a weekend camping trip. It was a breeze to set up, and with just a push of a button, the grill was up and running in no time. The convenient matchless lighting system really stood out to me, as it made starting the grill a hassle-free experience.
One of the biggest pros of this grill is its durability. The steel-crafted body is tough and can withstand various outdoor elements without any issues. Plus, on those calm days, the shields fold down as side tables, providing extra work space.
However, I did encounter a few cons during my time with the grill. Firstly, the drip tray wasn't the most effective. It seemed to catch grease well but can be a bit messy to clean. Secondly, the grill plate occasionally caused some difficulty in achieving an even cook.
Despite a few minor drawbacks, the Coleman PerfectFlow InstaStart Gas Grill has proven to be a reliable companion for me on my camping trips. So, if you're looking for a portable, convenient, and durable grill for your outdoor adventures, this might just be the one for you.

I recently tried out the Hamilton Beach IndooOutdoor Grill and was quite impressed by its performance. This grill was a game-changer in my household as it allowed me to enjoy juicy, flavorful grilled meats without having to step outside in the elements. The nonstick cooking surface was a standout feature as it made cleanup a breeze, unlike my old grill that could be a hassle to clean.
One of the things that stood out the most was the temperature control. It made it super easy to adjust the heat to my liking, ensuring that my food was perfectly cooked every time. The even heat distribution was also noticeable - no more burnt burgers or overcooked steaks!
However, there were a couple of drawbacks I encountered. Although it's compact and portable, it took a little longer to heat up compared to my outdoor grill. Additionally, some users have mentioned issues with the grill's durability, but I haven't experienced any problems myself yet.
Overall, the Hamilton Beach IndooOutdoor Grill is a fantastic product that has made an excellent addition to my kitchen. Its easy-to-clean features, exceptional temperature control, and even heat distribution make it a worthwhile investment for any grilling enthusiast.

I recently tried out the Coleman PerfectFlow Portable Camp Propane Grill/Stove, and I must say, it has been a game-changer during my camping trips. The ability to use it as both a stove and a grill at the same time is such a convenient feature.
One thing that really stands out is the wind block system. It ensures that the burners aren't affected by wind, which is a common issue when cooking outdoors. The propane pressure control technology also makes sure that the cooking surface generates up to 10,000 BTUs of cooking power.
However, there are a few downsides. The non-stick surface, while easy to clean, can sometimes be a bit tricky to handle while cooking. Additionally, the dimensions might be a bit bigger than expected, so it could take up more space than anticipated.
Overall, I've had a positive experience with the Coleman PerfectFlow Portable Camp Propane Grill/Stove. It's a reliable and versatile option for those who love camping and cooking outdoors.

A Coleman Tabletop Propane Gas Camping 2-in-1 Grill/Stove 2-Burner Gray has been my go-to grilling companion during recent camping trips. The convenience of cooking multiple meals simultaneously while occupying minimal space is truly a game-changer.
The best aspect of this grill is its versatility - it enables me to whip up a quick skillet meal or sear some burgers all at once, making it a perfect companion in the kitchen. Additionally, the grill surface fits a 10-inch pan, providing ample room for larger dishes.
However, I did encounter a minor inconvenience with the stove's design. The stove surface cannot accommodate a larger pot, rendering it unsuitable for preparing larger meals.
Overall, I am pleased with the Coleman Tabletop Propane Gas Camping 2-in-1 Grill/Stove 2-Burner Gray, as it has significantly streamlined my camping cooking experience. Despite the limitation with the stove's surface, its versatility and functionality make it a valuable addition to my camping gear.

The Coleman NXT 200 Portable Grill has been my trusty companion for countless camping trips and backyard barbecues. Its 20,000 BTUs of cooking intensity and 321 square inches of grilling space make it perfect for cooking up a storm, whether you're making burgers for the whole family or whipping up a quick meal on the go.
There are a few aspects of this grill that really stand out in my experience. First and foremost, its durability is top-notch. It's been with me through wind, rain, and snow, and it still performs like a champ. The materials used in its construction are of the highest quality, ensuring that it can withstand the elements and remain functional for years to come.
However, there are a couple of things that could use some improvement. One major drawback is the size and weight of the grill. It can be a bit of a struggle to transport it, especially if you're on your own. It's not exactly a lightweight option, so be prepared for a bit of heft when you're moving it from place to place.
Another area where this grill could use some work is the availability of accessories. Some users have reported difficulty in finding certain attachments, like the griddle, which can limit the versatility of the grill. It would be great if there were more options available for those looking to expand their cooking capabilities.
Overall, the Coleman NXT 200 Portable Grill is a reliable and powerful grill that has served me well in a variety of situations. It's a bit cumbersome to transport and accessory availability can be hit or miss, but if you're in the market for a dependable and efficient grill, this one fits the bill.

2024.05.21 11:43 GoofyPanda270 WIBTAH If I homeschooled my children?

Sorry guys, this is going to be a long one. I've been considering homeschooling my children for quite a while. I have a few reasons why the thought continually crosses my mind.
The first is the education aspect. From Kindergarten to now, my oldest seems to struggle in class. More socialization and less concentration. I will say that did tone down quite a bit during this past school year. But beyond that, each progress report sent home says that she is behind in this area or that. They don't assign homework, so I rarely know there is an issue until the reports come home. Despite my asking several times, I never receive anything that shows what they are working on, so I use the report to see the struggle areas and sit one on one with her, and she does wonderful! I know all parents feel that way about their children and boast, but she really seems to do well. I have no problem getting her to focus and learn. I've also noticed that some of the areas they claim she's struggling in, she's not as behind as the reports say. There's been several times where I've found she knows the material quite well and when I bring it up with the teacher, I'm brushed off and told that the testing system they use is never wrong. Even when I've showed the extra work she has done at home that shows she knows the material, I get "well you probably gave away the answers without realizing it".
The second is the bullying. She was bullied half the year this year by a kid in her class twice her size. Nothing was ever done about it until the day he went too far and she stomped him. Not figuratively either. Principal said after he kicked her, she literally only used her feet to get this boy to the ground and proceeded to kick him until the teacher pulled her away. Until that incident, she would come home in tears saying she was told she was ugly and stupid. She would beg me not to make her go to school. She used to be so self-confident and now it's gone. He stopped bothering her after that incident, but she still says that she feels that she's ugly and stupid despite us telling her that is not true.
The third reason is an incident that took place near Christmas time. We are not a Christian household. We follow a different faith. But one day both children came home and started saying we were celebrating winter holidays wrong. I asked my oldest what she meant, and she told me that they had watched a video in class and learned that we are supposed to only celebrate the birth of Jesus. She said it was in music class and that they were also learning songs for the winter concert and when I asked what songs, they both started to sing church hymns. That night my husband and I explained that there are different religions in the world and that Christianity is only one of them. The next day I brought my concerns up with this particular teacher and I didn't like that her response was "Oh we learned a Jewish song too so it's not all Christian based." I have no problem with my kids learning about other religions. The way I see it, the more they learn about other religions and cultures, the more understanding they'll be as adults and not judgmental just because it's not theirs. But this is a public school. Unless they're learning about all other religions and cultures, I don't see the need for anything religious based to be brought up at all.
With all this I thought I might give homeschool a sort of trial run over summer break. I figured that if it went well, I would homeschool starting next year. My husband is on the same page as me, but when I've mentioned this to other people/family though, they all tell me I'm making a mistake and I'm being selfish/overreacting. I've been told that I would be robbing my kids of special moments/memories like school dances, picture days, end of the year award ceremonies, and graduation. I've also been told that I'm setting them up failure because homeschooled kids don't get real diplomas and I'm ruining any chances they have of getting into a good college or a good career later in life. I've been told that their after-school activities won't be enough socialization and they'll be socially stunted as adults. So many people have said these things to me that it makes me question if I'm doing the right thing. So, I came here for advice. Do I follow my instincts, and continue on with my plan or am I really overreacting as everyone says?

2024.05.21 09:09 qtummechanic Advice regarding potential resignation.

Hello everyone. I got a job at my Hagwon almost exactly 3 months ago. Since I have been in Korea and working, I have had two completely free days the whole 3 months.
I work at a Poly school (won’t say which one for privacy reasons). When I interviewed, my director said that it was a lot of work but didn’t specify what exactly that meant. I understood that Korean companies work much more on average than American ones, so I was prepared for a heavy workload, but nothing like this. As I said in the opening paragraph, I have had only two free days in the past 90 days. The workload here is nothing short of Herculean. First, I have approximately 40 teaching hours a week. On top of this, we have to grade, correct, and comment 24 Poly Writers Club essays bi-weekly. We also have to grade, correct, and comment on language composition assignments weekly (a first draft essay and the final draft of the previous lesson). We have to do individualized student comments for all of our kindergarten and elementary students (kindergarten bi-monthly, elementary tri-monthly). They require us to make these stupidly long (my kindergarten comments came out to 4000 words for 12 students and the elementary comments 6000 for 22). In August were supposed to do comments for every student we teach (not just our own students), so I’m looking at about 60 comments. I have to grade 12 picture diaries every week. And this does not even mention the lesson planning. My Poly requires an extremely detailed lesson plan which usually takes me hours to make. I also have to do behavior numbers for elementary students. I also have 12 essays for higher level students that I teach that I have to grade both first draft and second draft bi weekly. I’m sure I’m forgetting some things, but you get the gist.
My mental health is suffering tremendously. I always have to bring work home with me and I end up working until 2-3am (I get off work at 6-6:40pm). I have a partner of 2.5 years that lives here as well, and we have not been able to go out together or really do anything other than stay home because I always have to work, so my personal relationships are suffering. Every spare second I have, I find myself mentally shutting down and zoning out. The sleep deprivation is not helping this either. I don’t have hobbies anymore because I don’t have time for them. I literally just wake up, go to work, go home and work, sleep and repeat. As I write this, I’m looking at a stack of 24 poly writers club essays that need to be corrected and commented.
I don’t want to leave Korea, like I said, I have a long term partner here, but I can’t keep up working like this.

2024.05.21 07:56 Zealousideal_Set8423 Something I wrote in honour to my mother

Missing Part Of My Story
You dressed me for my first day of kindergarten, so why not help me tie my shoelaces for the last day? Wipe the nutella or vegemite from my cheek, while I act embarrassed when I know this is the last time it'll happen, as you did for my first day of kindergarten.
You can brush my hair into place harder than you need to, admittedly hurting a bit but I know its your way of showing love, like you did on my first day of primary school, you can put a bandaid on my scraped knee and give me a hug and a kiss on my forehead and wipe my tears away with your sleeve, just like you did on my first day of primary school.
You can give me a hug and fix my collar but now I'm bigger than you. "I need to put a brick on your head to stop you growing". The same thing you said on the first day of high school. You take a photo and ask for a hug. I'm a teenager, a grumpy one at that. I'm too old for hugs, now I need that hug like I did on the first day of high school.
You catch me sneaking back into the house from a party, I'm drunk, like when I would get up in the middle of the night to get food when I was younger, sleepy, the illusion I was a bandit in the night, but got caught, like my first time sneaking back into my room.
It's my eighteenth birthday now. We can finally share my "first" drink together. I can tell you all the stories before I was eighteen that I would get in trouble for, like you used to tell me stories, when I was younger. After too much to drink you can tuck me into bed like when I was younger and give me your signature butterfly kisses like you did when I was younger.
Now I listen to the songs that you used to sing along too when you would clean the house when I was younger, now I sing along to those same songs. I'd pick small flowers around the house and give them to you in a little bouquet. Now I buy you flowers and rest them on your stone bed, I still give you flowers like when I was a kid.
You never dressed me for kinder, primary or high school, never caught me sneaking back home from my first party and I haven't turned eighteen yet but I still listen to the same music, I never gave you flowers before but I still lay them by your side, my love you hasn't changed since my first day of kinder, primary or high school, so can you dress me for my last day of school?

2024.05.21 07:24 trjayke Help, stuck in abandonment loop

I've done the work as far to see that I am a freeze type
I (38m) can connect these responses to my growing up being be left in a bad kindergarten continuously between my 3 to 8 years old (but also other episodes of abandonment and emotional invalidation). I was VERY attached to my mother (only stopping breastfeeding at 3yo) so I think I developed this idea that I would have to wait for her the whole day until I feel safe, but at the same time she would never acknowledged that reality/asked about it so also developed a weird emotional barrier.
Today as an adult I am recognising that if I don't have a female partner, I can't move, I can't act, I can't perform. This has been getting worse over the years, as I was kind of ok and winging it until I started to get real intimate relationships.
My drive and focus of living would be to be next to partner. Although an attractive man, this child behaviour+poor career focus, just pushes them away, retraumatizing me every time I get dumped, where I lose at least 3 months not being able to move or get fed.
To avoid getting homeless I returned to my mother's house where she takes care of me, which makes me feel ashamed, a man child, a non functional broken adult.
I'm just sharing to see if anyone could give any advice as I always had so much potential but never really was able to output. I'm having trouble executing tasks like my folio since pandemic and I don't see any improvement. I try to break down tasks and lower the load, but I get really bad physical reactions like im allergic to work ( I think I developed burnout trauma too).
I don't know what to do, every life experience feels traumatic, my capacity to cope with it is just to become an isolated couch potato parasite my mother resources and frustrating her partner. Reading help books just lead me to breathing techniques which feel like nothing, a joke compared to how debilitating this is.
My only strategy right now is to completely go down in isolation mode, reduce all distractions, and just be me and my work goals, like no escape. Because that's the reality of it.

2024.05.21 07:03 mymeatisloafing Losing my old cat :(

It’s only the second night without my dear cat. I got him when I was in kindergarten - I don’t remember much of when I first got him but we grew up together. He was around 18-20 years old. He had to be put down so suddenly, I left for a camping trip on Friday and rushed to meet him with my mom at the emergency vet on Sunday and he didn’t come home with me from the vets. To say that I am devastated by this loss would be an understatement, this cat was like my baby. I came home from college every other Saturday to spend the day with him. I loved him with my whole entire heart. I don’t know how I will feel in a couple of months obviously, but now I feel so empty but also so hurt at the same time. People have been asking me if I’ll get another cat already but I don’t know if I’ll ever be capable of loving another cat like I did my cat. Getting him put down was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, and has been the worst day and following day(s) of my life. I just miss him so much.

2024.05.21 06:57 Missshellylyndsay AITA for refusing to move house?

So this is probably a boring one but I need an unbiased opinion.
I(31F) and husband (31M) have 5 kids. 4 live with us (12F, 10F, 3M and 9mM) and 1 (7F) lives with her mum.
My husband has this awful habit of job hopping, Im a SAHM with a side hustle which covers most of the bills so I’m lucky with that. Now my husband was offered a job with a promotion and a pay rise (20K extra per year)- the only issue was that it was an hour away from where we live and the hours would change. Instead of 6am-3pm, it would be 3am-12pm.
He came home and discussed it with me, I made it clear that I wasn’t ready to move so he would be either getting a place down there to stay during the week or he would have to drive to and from every day.
He said he was okay with driving to and from.
The reasons I don’t want to move-
*We’re paying $1750(?) a month for a 4 bedroom house (350 a week). *Ive been here for almost 10 years, longer than him and I have been together. *Rent where he works is an extra 200+ a week for a 4 bedroom. *Our children’s other parents live here, meaning we would have to drive the hour up here every weekend anyway to see them. *Our 3M son starts kindergarten next year and my oldest daughter starts high school, I don’t want to move her away from her friends during this transition. *I keep having anxiety about this job hopping habit of his. He’s been there since March and has already mentioned a few times that he wants to leave, I said after 6 months we can discuss moving possibly but he didn’t like that compromise.
Today he came home cracking it that I was killing him because “I won’t move closer and that I put a value on his life of $350”, because he’s fatigued cause he wakes up at 1.30am. I tell him to go to bed earlier or stay at a motel there during the week but he says he can’t afford it.
I’m getting frustrated and annoyed at this constant argument we’re having and I need to know if I should just suck it up and uproot for my husband and his work. I know if I rebudget and cancel some things we could probably afford it, but with the housing market the way it is at the moment also makes me nervous.
So unbiased opinions, AITA?

2024.05.21 06:54 Cheese4569 I need help keeping my friend group together about to go into high school

I’m an 8th grader, well only for about 2 more days but soon me and my circle of about 7 friends are going to high school. I see everyone talking about how their middle school friendships ended when they started high school but during lunch the 8 of us made a pact to make sure that doesn’t happen, which really only happened cuz I begged for it to happen. I’m really the only one of us to care about this because the other guys have strong confidence that we’ll do just fine. And I do have a little de ja vu from 5th grade stressing about the same thing happening in middle school and we did fine, even happening to gain more friends too. I just don’t want us to drift apart and become just extra faces in the halls, some of our friendships go back all the way to kindergarten/1st grade. Give me advice how to make sure this doesn’t happen.

2024.05.21 05:17 18randomcharacters Using Home Assistant to add missing parental controls to Roku?

We have Roku TVs.
My kindergartener is allowed to watch tv, but we'd love to set limits like 1 episode at a time. X minutes per day, etc. Roku has none of that.
Would it be possible to do any of that with HA? Maybe an automation like "when (TV) state has been 'playing' for however long, then turn off TV" or something?

2024.05.21 04:51 1KBushFan What kind of spider am I dealing with? Mountains of Virginia *No PIC*

I have a large vegetable garden every year. This year, about 2 weeks ago, I pulled a large clump of weeds and out of the ground came a black spider that looked identical to a black widow BUT the red markings was on the back of it. And it wasn't an hourglass shape. It was more like 3 red dots in a row. So I immediately left that area alone because I wasn't gonna mess around with it.
Fast forward to the other day. I was pulling up a large weed barrier tarp in the garden. I almost pulled it off the garden but I laid it down for a second to move some rocks I had on it to weigh it down. I looked back at the bare ground and there was about 6 of these black spiders running around. The same kind I saw 2 week prior. I looked at the tarp and I just about flipped. There was about 6 to 10 more of these spiders. There was what looked like 4 nickel sized cotton balls attached to the tarp. I assumed it was egg sacs. And one spider that I would assume was pregnant because it was rather plump. I took a large rock and pancaked the bitch. Some of these spiders had the red dots on the back. A few looked like it was 3 small lines. The pregnant one had no red spots on the back. And one larger, non-pregnant spider looked to climb up on a little twig and appeared to play dead. It kind of hung on to the side of the twig and like curled it's legs up. There was a red spot on the underside of that one, but I couldn't get a full view to see if it was the hourglass shape. I ended up dusting the ground and the tarp with sevin dust. I have no idea if that will work, But are these indeed black widows? If the sevin dust doesn't work, what can I use?

2024.05.21 04:22 Lenny36 Latest post about Liontown

Hey mate
its so hard to do anything in a company like liontown. Once the instos are in , in a big way.
and everyone knows what gina rinehart is like!
Rob Rutherford said to me on phone 'if we do this capital raising we can get some big institutions in the company' I said 'I dont want big institutions in the company they'll manipulate the price down' he said 'why would any institution manipulate the price down, it doesnt benefit them, wouldnt they manipulate the price up?'... Maybe he really is that thick.
just ask Gina Rinehart the benefits she gets from suppressing Liontown's price! These days in mining, its all about suppression of the price.
you can get control if it easier and cheaper if the price is suppressed. Is Rob or Joshua's brain not intelligent enough to grasp this kindergarten concept? Surely, surely they understand that.
joshus is top holder of red hill mining a company that got suppressed down to 16c and is now over $6. Without checking (I dont have time to check everything) I think he or Rob are top shareholder in Red Metal a company with the best tenements in australia which has had six veritas capital raisings.
he knows all about price suppression, he has made a fortune from benefitting from it
another very interesting thing. i could prove very easily everything if I had the share register of maronan. I requested it last friday and no response from Ian Gebbie. Ive asked again yesterday and today, no response.
high moderation possibility on this post!!

2024.05.21 04:17 unbeaten-cactus The Mets, Coffee, and Gospel - Smyrna City Council Recap

Went to my first City Council Meeting in quite some time. I ended up sitting next to an older guy, with a thick New Yorker accent, and a Mets sweater. He seemed to be drinking coffee or spitting into it? He asked me if I was with the MDJ, and why I was taking notes - repeatedly, and loudly throughout the meeting. He promised a show, come public comment time. I deflected his questions.
First off, all the normal things we do before every meeting: pledge, invocation from a local pastor, blah blah blah.
Next up, the good stuff - the mayoral report. We met our “Mayor for the Day”, a kindergarten student who also participates in beauty pageants! Luckily, she didn’t have to sit through the budget, like the rest of the audience chose to. She got to leave once the agenda started. Solid candidate if she chose to run against Norton when she gets to middle school. Watch out Derek!
The proclamations came next, with the Citizen’s Academy graduation. The even got diplomas and their name called out! That’s more than I got from Georgia Tech’s commencement. Then, the BEST part of the entire meeting. The Mount Zion Baptist Church is nearly as old as the city of Smyrna, itself – at 147 years old! We met the oldest person in the congregation, who in her words, was “still a virgin and only 16 years old”. She said she hoped God gives her another year, so maybe she’ll have time to fix the first part. Then, we got a short acapella gospel song, at the behest of the mayor. Fantastic! The most entertaining/moving part of the entire night. I implore you to go to the Smyrna City Council Videos just to watch this one section.
There was a zoning hearing next, moving onto the boring stuff. There is a new development of six-townhomes at 3410 Atlanta Road. They were building a bit more densely than the zoning, so they required some sort of zoning approval. Apparently, an adjacent HOA was VERY concerned that something annoying would be built next to them, so there was a long engagement process with the HOA. It always baffles me, how property owners can stop a process. Why don’t we regulate nuisances instead of uses? What if it were some fancy bodega, wouldn't that be nice? This was approved per Zoning Board recommendation, as it should be. I was disappointed that the road connectivity to the surrounding neighborhoods was poor, but it looks like they will interface well with Atlanta Road.
Moving on, was the budget. I won’t bore you with the details, as this portion ran on for 40 minutes. Here are some highlights. Apparently, the Cobb Intergovernmental Agreement continues to drag out, as reported elsewhere. So, the payments for the services Smyrna provides, instead of Cobb since we live in city limits, continue to be delayed. ARPA funds are running low. Apparently, there are transfers from the Sewer and Water fund to the general fund, which seems problematic, as Cobb County has recently encountered. (I need to investigate this more). There’s also a lot of money for traffic calming in the budget, which is surprising, as Smyrna’s major roads are anything but calm. Maybe more improvements are on the way.
Then there were a lot of agenda items. Dehumidifiers, engineering, etc. These breezed through approvals, and there were few questions. If I were City Council, I’d be dozed off by now. One interesting item was moving through a grant approval process for the Chattahoochee Riverlands Recreational Trail, in partnership with the Trust for Public Land. Woohoo! This will provide a paved trail, upgrading a gravel one, but still has to be approved through the Federal Grant process, provided by the Federal Highway Administration.
Finally, came consent agenda, where a lot of small items get approved at once. Atkins Park's special events for Smyrna Pride, approval of minutes, re-appointments to boards, etc.
And the moment we’ve all been waiting for – public comment! Only one person signed up, and it was the Mets guy siting next to me. Plot twist – it was Alex Backry, the perennial mayoral candidate. He complained about spending and transparent government. He had some good points about openness and budget overruns for projects like Windy Hill. By that point, I was a bit tired, and so was everyone else.

2024.05.21 04:14 Cautious-Relation517 I hate relearning my language

When I was young, I grew up speaking Cantonese until grade 1 when I forced myself to speak English.
I forced myself to speak and learn English because I was having shitty marks on languages and art. My parents kept telling me that the reason why my grades are bad is because my English is not good.
As I kept forcing myself to learn English, I slowly begin to forget how to speak Cantonese. I force myself that I didn’t want to speak Cantonese anymore because I wanted to fit in the English-speaker society and not be judged. It became so bad to the point my Cantonese speaking skill is below a kindergarten can do (I’m not exaggerating).
My vocabulary in Cantonese is very VERY limited. I can barely speak and understand Cantonese. I don’t know how to write Cantonese.
It frustrates me because it’s really difficult to communicate with my mom. I can barely have a conversation with my mom. It’s easy to have conversation with my dad because he can speak English. My mom can barely speak English.
I get judged and made fun of when I try to relearn and speak Cantonese. From my dad, friend, you name it. What’s even worse is that I judge my mom when she’s trying to prounce a word in English, and that’s simply because I don’t understand what she said. I feel guilty after judging my mom because at the end of the day, she is trying her best and I know she did a lot for me.
A struggle about relearning a language isn’t the grammar structure to me. It’s the emotion that relearning a language that makes it so fucking unbearable. I get second-hand embarrassment when I try to speak Cantonese and people correct me. After getting embarrassed, I will not stop thinking about it. It’s to the point I shame myself. I shame myself that I should’ve know this because I’m Chinese. If it wasn’t for feeling shit, I would have been practicing my Cantonese without shame.
Despite all of this shit, I still try my best and I take little steps I can to relearn my language. There are some people that inspires me to relearn the language. It’s really fucking hard to relearn my mother tongue, but I do pray that I’ll get to the point where I can fully speak the language someday.
To the people that make fun of others for learning new things and making mistakes, fuck you. You make mistake and if you have a problem with people making mistake while they’re learning, put your fucking projection elsewhere.
It’ll be nice to hear people’s similar experience with this and how they dealt with it. It’ll definitely help me to get out of my shell and inspire me to relearn without any negative feelings overtaking me.

2024.05.21 03:54 throwaway7262692937 Where do I go from here?

I’m posting anonymously for safety and privacy reasons.
Hello. I’m a proud mom of 3 children. I’ve been with my partner, their father, for almost 10 years. Our relationship is very toxic, and somewhat abusive. I need any resources, hope, or just advice.. please.
Please no judgment. I don’t know if I can take anymore than I already have. I’ll give a bit of a back story.
I got with my partner at a young age, 16. All the red flags were there but I was too blind and naive to see them. I also grew up in a very toxic, hostile environment with no father figure so I was just craving that love and attention. Not blaming my past for my choices, those were my own.
The abuse did not start until I had my first child. Before I even had her, we were arguing 24/7. Him yelling, name calling, just hours of endless screaming and arguments. When I had my first child is when the grabbing started. Him grabbing me when he was mad, when we would argue. It wasn’t just grabbing to “calm me down” as he loved to say. It was grabbing that would leave bruises for days. I told him I was going to go to the police and report him because I knew from right and wrong, well I thought I did. The grabbing stopped. But honestly, probably only stopped because the family member we were living with kicked him out because they saw right through him. I ended up getting pregnant with my second child shortly after, wasn’t planned. We got our first apartment together after my second child was born. That’s where the physical abuse started. Looking back, he was always abusive, but now he knew we were alone and he could get away with it. I ended up getting a protection order against him. But once again, I was stupid, and naive, and went back. He promised he changed. (we all know that doesn’t happen) and for a while it did seem like he changed. He wasn’t physical with me. Didn’t yell. But it never lasted. Never does. But we “worked” through things I guess you could say. We ended up getting our second place together and we’ve been here since. He has not punched, slapped, or kicked me. But during arguments he has grabbed me again, or grabbed me by my hair. But he had me so mind fucked that it was normal and I was in the wrong. He is the true definition of a narcissist. I got pregnant with my third and last child who’s 11 months old. It was not planned, I did not want anymore kids to this man. But I got pregnant off of birth control. Got my tubes tied as soon as I had my last child.
I want to leave. I do not know how to, or how I would be able to do it alone. I have no family help, or any family at all. My grandma who was my main support person passed away a few years ago. I’m so sick of it. The yelling. Walking on egg shells. The mood shifting the second he’s in the room. Being afraid to speak up about anything. The angry outbursts. The name calling. I feel like I’ve lost myself. I miss my old self. My old friends. I miss my REAL smile.
He started a new job last week, which I helped him get. Tonight I got him McDonald’s before work because we didn’t have groceries, and I wanted him to have a meal before work. Obviously the kids need to eat too. He came down in his usual bad mood. I nicely asked him to please say goodbye to our daughter before he goes to work (he works 3rd) because then she asks me all night where her dad is if he doesn’t say goodbye. Somehow, someway, this pissed him off? Starting raising his voice. I walked away because I couldn’t deal with it anymore. Followed me into the living room while I’m trying to change our son, yells at me how I’m the problem, I always give him an attitude (I don’t) and how his tone with me isn’t an issue. Him hitting the wall because he was pissed off isn’t an issue. I don’t understand what I did. I told him I’m just going to keep quiet like usual, because I don’t want to be yelled at so I just keep to myself. That set him off. And he left for work.
I blocked him on everything. I just want to leave. I don’t know how I’ll do it. How I can work. My second child goes to preschool from 8-2, but is often sent home cause they have an underlying stomach issue which we are waiting to hear back from a specialist about. My youngest is starting physical therapy. My oldest doesn’t start kindergarten until the next school year. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. Especially, alone. He helps me with the children. But as a partner, he fails in all aspects. I want to be on my own. I want my kids and I to be happy. But realistically with no help, how can I manage?
Thank you for listening. It feels good to get it out.

2024.05.21 03:06 emm1066 Is anyone only still in childcare because your child is?

My (only) child is in the Pre-K class of our childcare center and he loves it. I work in the 1-2 year old room and I am starting to hate every single day. I haven't had a coteacher since December, I have chronic health issues that are exacerbated by the stress I am under, I come home every day with nothing left in me. But it would be cruel to take my son out of the school he knows and loves, especially since he only has a year and 3 months left... (but whose counting..). Unless a drastic change happens, I will be leaving when he starts public kindergarten. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I went to a restaurant the other day and instead of the pancakes being fluffy, they were cakey and I really enjoyed them. I can’t seem to find a recipe for cakey pancakes online, does anyone have one they could share?

2024.05.21 02:30 Level_Improvement677 AITAH for telling my mom she is part of the reason my son won't be potty trained.

Me and my kids are staying with my mom temporarily, I have a 4 year old son who showed very little interest in using the bathroom other then in a pull up. He starts kindergarten next year and won't be able to attend unless he is fully potty trained, which is understandable. So I made the decision to not put a pull up on him during the day, and only use one at night which also means I'm no longer buying the boxes just small packs, which is a savings. When I had told my mom my plan she did not object to it but just said ok. She does watch him while I work but anytime she takes him out she puts a pull up on him instead of him telling her he has to go to the bathroom. When I take him out I do not put one on him and he does just fine without. I do know this is not her responsibility to potty train him but it has gotten to the point he screams for a pull up. Quite frankly I am tired of buying them as they are extremely expensive, even the cheapest ones I can find.
I had posted something to specify some things in the comments so I'm just going to post it here and add some things... So to specify some things, I did not just start potty training him I introduced him to the potty at 1 I bought him his own potty to get him use to sitting on it. At 2 was when I started to potty train full time with him wearing pull ups a timer set for every 30 mins and I would have him sit on it, and he hated it, would sit there crying and screaming only actually going in it a few times. So yes I did back off a little bit I didn't want to traumatize him.
While I don't pay her directly for babysitting I do pay for the groceries, do the grocery shopping, put gas in her car and pay whatever bills she wants me to pay for that month, I also do all the cleaning. Yes I know I should be paying some bills since me and my kids do live there i do not have a problem with that.
I do have other kids but they are not younger they are older, he is the youngest. I did not have any problems with them potty training so this is a first for me.
Me and their father are not together, he is not able to watch him while I work, for various reasons.
I have tried to find other childcare, there is a wait list which he is on several of them. I did not just expect my mom to watch him just because I am staying there.
