2024.05.21 19:06 verminbby I got drugged at the Las Vegas Airport?

Hi I hope it’s okay to ask this here. So I went to EDC this weekend, I had a flight leaving at 8:00pm yesterday. Tbh I am kind of a heavy drinker. I barely drank during the festival though. I got to the airport at 3:00pm had a bloody marry at 3:30, had a glass of white wine at 5:30 then a second at 6:30. I was eating during this time as well. Around 7:30 right before my flight leaves I decide I’ll do one more glass of wine to be kind of toasty drunk on the plane, not going crazy, and please know I am a heavy drinker and I had these drinks hours apart from each other. The third glass of wine is when things get hazy, for some reason I texted my ex to pick me up from the airport I was arriving at, when that was never my plan at all, I was going to just Uber to my house. I have NO MEMORY of my flight, how I got to my seat, nothing. The next thing I remember is opening my eyes and waking up (while I’m standing) in the middle of the SeaTac airport. The girl I sat next to on the plane (again no memory of this) was helping me and trying to ask me how I was getting home. I told her I was going to call my ex, and she told me not to do that. Again, I have no clue why I wanted to have my ex get me, and he would have said no anyway, I was always going to get an Uber. She told me she didn’t want me in a Uber in my state and drove me home. So ya, I had a staggered helping of 3 1/2 drinks over a 5 hour stretch and then lost 3 hours of my memory. I’m still confused right now even. And I did weird things when I got home. Could this also just be sleep deprivation? I’m also not the kind of person that blacks out. Also weirdly when I got home, I didn’t realize that I had no memory of my flight for hours, and suddenly I realized that isn’t right. What do you think?
P.s. I’m asking in here because some people may not have realized this but the airport was a bit of a party in some areas, particularly the bar area/ gate I was sitting in. They were playing edm music and stuff. Also as I get my memory I’m realizing there was this raver guy hanging around me right around the time things for fuzzy for me. I’m trying to ask all my friends and even my parents and NO ONE is taking me seriously. Everyone just thinks I got fucked up, or that I didn’t take care of myself at the festival. But I have never fully lost 3 hours of my memory ever.

2024.05.21 16:24 ujc7687 Should we trust Charles Markward?

In case you don't know, he is the one in the Fall of the King comment section who claims that his two older sisters heard this song at a rock festival in Pennsylvania. He says that it was played by many garage bands and local talents around that area. Charles also claims that his two older sisters say the first time they heard the song was before Charles was born (he was born in 1984). He has been very consistent and has posted over 100 comments. Should we take his information as a possible lead, or is it possible that his sisters were confusing it with another song?

Episode 4: The Newly Dead

Last time you began in the aftermath of a landslide. After the chaos of the previous day, the mountain peak, the blight, the death of the Virtuous (all of which happened within a single day) you finally had a chance to rest and take stock of all that had occurred. I found a spot to camp. Dolly confessed ‘in all her travels what she experienced on Mt Atria was the first time she’d witnessed something that she couldn’t understand’.As the only members of the party not affected by the blight, I took Raidion aside to see whether they could offer the others any help. Raidion shrugged off this suggestion, telling I that ‘they were out of their depth and he was only staying with them because they were currently useful to him’. Around the fire, Endellion, Kelnys and Dolly spoke of what had brought them to the Web. Endellion revealing that she had wanted to escape a life she led before. Morgan suggested that (rather than escape) the Web merely offered a different kind of cage. After being pressed by Dolly, he (Morgan) disclosed that he had joined the Web to ensure that he was able to (in his words) “hurt the right people”. It was Kelnys’ turn to confide next that the Web had killed his family, but he also revealed that his family were not dragonborn. As the party began to rest, Raidion took Dolly aside and thanked her for the gift of the daisy chain bracelet. Taking her into his confidence, he revealed that he had been struggling to sleep, due to a whispering deck of cards that he carries in his pack. Dolly told him ‘that when things begin to call out, it is a sign that they possess great power and that power is hard to escape’. As the rest of the party settled down, Endellion and Morgan took first watch. Morgan beginning to scratch the symbols of Ignas from his armor. Endellion questioned him on his loss of faith and Morgan told her that ‘having lost so much already, the death of his god had hit him hard’. The pair challenged one another on the nature of faith, choice, and loss before they too finally got some sleep. The next morning you descended, made your way down to the foot of the mountain and to the Festival of Benediction. There you met Polyanna, a junior cleric supervising the construction of a stage. As she fussed and attempted to heal those of the party suffering from the blight, Endellion insisted that you be taken to Jasmee (the cleric that Barabask instructed you to seek out). Polyanna led you through the hubbub of the festival with its traders, musicians and worshippers until you found Jasmee offering instruction to a group of young religious students. Raidion immediately blurted out that the Virtuous were dead and Morgan handed her the letter that Barabask had written. Jasmee read that letter, her expression darkening. She asked if you had been sickened by the blight that now infected the mountain. When you confirmed that you had, she gathered guards and escorted you away from the festival. As the sounds of revelry faded into the distance, you entered a forest glade, far from prying eyes. There Jasmee rounded on you and with a whispered ‘I’m sorry’ cast Guiding Bolt on Endellion. She called to the guards that you had tried to kill the Antiqua and they, too, leapt into combat. As the fight began, Dolly appealed to Jasmee to stop her attacks, insisting the party had nothing to do with the deaths on the mountain. The cleric seemed in turmoil, stepping back and observing as Morgan roared a battle cry. Endellion added her appeals to Dolly’s with little effect. Raidion tried to use Hypnotic Gaze, as per, but Jasmee was angered by his attempts to deceive her with magic. At last Dolly’s words seemed to land and Jasmee threw her the letter which Barabask had written. After reading it, Dolly made one final plea for reason and the cleric at last commanded that the guards cease fighting. She cured Dolly, Endellion, Kelnys, and Morgan of the blight and told the party that she would report their deaths back to Barabask. With that she departed, leaving you alone in a forest glade.

2024.05.20 20:23 Yurii_S_Kh “I took the icon, and myrrh flowed out of it in streams.” A conversation with the keeper of the Iveron Montreal (Hawaii) Icon of the Mother of God

“I took the icon, and myrrh flowed out of it in streams.” A conversation with the keeper of the Iveron Montreal (Hawaii) Icon of the Mother of God
Not so long ago, Kailua (the city of “two seas” as the name translates from Hawaiian) was known for its golden sandy beaches with turquoise water - a surfer's paradise! Also, Kailua was one of the residences of the kings - the rulers of Hawaii. Barack Obama, when he was president, moved his office here for the winter. Now the city, located just 20 minutes drive from the center of Honolulu, has become associated with the Russian Orthodox Church and its shrines, first of all - with the world revered by Orthodox people myrrh-flowing Iverskaya Montreal (Hawaiian) icon of the Mother of God.
The Mother of God in the altar was painted by Matushka Anna Kalinina from Moscow. Nectarius Youngson, the keeper of the myrrh-flowing icon, serves as a deacon in the temple. He shared with us the difficult history of his parish, told us about the miraculous discovery of the Hawaiian icon and about the miracles and healings that occur through prayers before this icon.
Deacon Nectarius Youngson
Islanders
  • Fr. Nectarius, were you yourself born in Hawaii?
  • My family is native Hawaiians, we have lived on the island of Oahu for many years. My great-great-grandfather came from China and married a Filipina. From that marriage, my great-grandfather was born. He married a Puerto Rican woman of Spanish descent. We did a genetic test and, in addition to Polynesian, there are many ethnic lines in our family, including Portuguese, Spanish, French, Filipino, Japanese, Chinese and, interestingly enough, Georgian and even Russian!
I was the first in my family to become Orthodox, having been baptized at the age of 12. Before that, all my relatives were Catholics
As far as I know, I was the first in my family to become Orthodox, having been baptized at the age of 12 (before that all my relatives were Catholics). One day my stepmother and her parents went to a Greek festival in Honolulu and bought a book called “The Orthodox Way” by Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware). So she became a parishioner of the Greek Church of St. Constantine and St. Helen. She invited me to the temple. I was interested and began to go to catechization classes. There was a wonderful priest there, Father Peter Salmas. He was going to baptize me, but then the Greek Archdiocese sent him to California. Then I began to go to the temple of the Russian Church Abroad. At that time it was a small mission that rented space in the Episcopal Church. When I first went to their service, it seemed to me that angels were singing, although there were only two people singing on the choir. I was charmed by the service itself, the atmosphere in the parish, and the kindness of the parishioners.
Father Seraphim Rolman was serving there at that time. He agreed to baptize me the following Friday and asked me what name I would like to be baptized with. I said that I had read about a wonderful man, St. Nectarius of Aegina, and I would like him to be my heavenly patron saint. “Oh!” exclaimed the priest, “this Friday is just his commemoration day".
So I was baptized on the day of the memory of St. Nectarius of Aegina according to the old style. For me it was a confirmation that I made the right choice and came to the church where I should be.
On Sunday I was blessed to read the Gospel, and I received Holy Communion for the first time. And after the service, Father Seraphim gave us everything we needed for services and told us that Archbishop Anthony (Medvedev) of San Francisco was sending him to serve in Montana, and for the time being there would be no priest in the parish.
By the way, in the same parish I met our future priest, Fr. Anatoly Levin, who was then a longtime subdeacon.
The parish received a professor as rector
  • Father Nektarius, the history of your parish is the history of rent, of moving from one building to another; once you had a priest, once you did not, and you had to maintain the “breath and life” of the parish yourself....
I, 12 years old, began to ride my bicycle to the temple every Sunday, where I would lay out icons and read the Liturgy in layman's terms
  • That's right! And at that time the future father Anatoly was teaching in Vladivostok, and I, 12 years old, began to ride my bicycle every Sunday to the temple, where I laid out icons, took out books and read the lay readings. The temple was empty, almost no one came because there was no priest. I would finish reading, pack everything in the closet, close the door of the temple and drive to the ocean. And no one knew if or when the priest would come.
Finally, a gifted pastor arrived from Jordanville - Hieromonk Averky (Moreno). He stayed on the island for a month and so came four times a year. When he came, many people gathered. He was our rector for several years.
In the meantime, our subdeacon Anatoly returned from Russia. Fr. Averky, knowing that we needed a permanent priest and that our subdeacon would make a worthy shepherd, began to persuade his Japanese wife Emiko to agree to ordain her husband. Fr. Anatoly was at that time a professor at the university in Honolulu, and after retirement he could devote all his time to the temple.
Priest Anatoly Levin
In 1984, Archbishop Anthony (Sinkevich) of Los Angeles came to us and told us that the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God had begun to myrrh-streaming in Montreal and brought us a copy of it. Vladyka suggested that we dedicate our parish to the Iveron Icon of Our Lady of Montreal. So our community became the first in the world to be dedicated to this icon.
Since 1986 we had Hieromonk Thomas (Delano; a former Hollywood actor who became a monk in 1978) serving us for five years, and then again for almost ten years there was no permanent priest.
But we were gradually building our parish. Sometimes I would get sad and call Fr. Averky in Jordanville and almost shout: “Why can't we just go to the Greek church?” But Fr. Averky told us to keep praying and that there should be more temples, not fewer; that the Mother of God would help us.
And so God sent us Fr. Anatoly. That's when we began to have a real regular liturgical life.
At that time we had only a few families who supported the parish: Russians, Ukrainians, Serbs, Romanians, local Hawaiians.
At that time we served in a tiny office converted for the church (only 18 square meters!)
Fr. Anatoly tried to tell as much as possible about the temple, and the parish gradually grew. We served then in a tiny office (only 18 square meters!) converted for the temple. But what a joyful atmosphere there was! I remembered the words of Vladyka John (Maximovich). When his congregation in Shanghai was deprived of its cathedral, they were forced to serve in a garage, and many people cried. And then the saint consoled them that this place is greater than any cathedral, because here is the Body and Blood of Christ. We felt the same way when we served in our little room. Ten years later we rented a bigger place in the center of Honolulu.
And the church we have now is a miracle!
Our iconostasis was made... 100 years ago

  • Five years ago our long-time pastor gathered for retirement (now Fr. Anatoly is our rector emeritus and continues to serve to the best of his ability). We needed a younger priest. In 2016, I just went with an icon and several priests to Alaska. One priest I liked there was Fr. Athanasius Cohn. He had lived with his family on Kadyak Island in Alaska for many years, and he had an islander mentality.
Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America considered him a good candidate for our temple and sent him to Hawaii. Our parish is mixed: now there are Russians, Serbs, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Palestinians, believers from Alaska, and we needed a missionary priest who would be able to spread Orthodoxy on the island in the future, to bring people to faith, so that they would seek Christ and follow Christ to the temple.
Two years after Fr. Athanasius came to us, in 2018, we started looking for a new place for the parish. But we didn't have much money, especially since the parish decided to pay the rector a salary for the first time in more than 20 years so that he wouldn't have to work a secular job as well. After all, it is no secret that abroad almost all clergy, in addition to serving, also work. There are priests-computer scientists and priests-doctors, construction workers, truckers and even cleaners. And in Hawaii, life is expensive.
It took us a long time to find a suitable place to rent. We thought maybe we could buy it. We looked for two years, and one day we got a call that there was a former mission in Keilua, not far from Honolulu, that was moving to Texas. It was a Baptist congregation with a small church, a school that needed to be remodeled.
We liked the place. The pastor told us that Jehovah's Witnesses and other denominations wanted to buy the premises, but he wanted to sell it to a real Christian parish.
Temple in Keilua
Then we started looking for a bank that would help us with the money, but we couldn't find one. And then something interesting happened. We found an Orthodox bank that gave Orthodox churches money on credit for repairs, expansion, and remodeling, but had never before given money to buy a church. Father Athanasius and I applied to them, but before that we served a prayer service to the Mother of God. And they accepted our application! And the entire management of the bank, starting with its president, was very willing to help our mission. We launched a fundraising campaign, and people from all over the world sent money, which we were able to make as a down payment.
All of this was happening during the coronavirus pandemic. We bought the spaces of our future church in March 2020, Easter services were held at the old location, and my father, the contractor, began working on remodeling and remodeling the buildings.
Last year was a year of much work. And all along we had some obstacles that came up. But as soon as the obstacles came up, the solution came!
When we started to renovate the masonry on the outside of the church, the mason took the money for the work and disappeared. But on the same day another mason came and offered to help. He did everything in the best possible way, and even poured cement near the church where there had been earth before.

And one day the headman of the Cathedral in San Francisco told me that he had an iconostasis that was eighty years old or more, and he asked: “Do you need an iconostasis?" We would have gladly taken it, because at that time we were just making an ambo in the church. But he didn't even know the exact dimensions. My father said to me: “Let's build the ambo, then we'll decide. Mother of God will help.”
We assembled the iconostasis given to us, and it turned out that it exactly fits our ambo!
The iconostasis was delivered by container to Hawaii. We assembled it, and it turned out to fit our pulpit exactly! As Fr. Anatoly said, the iconostasis was made 100 years ago just for us.
About a year ago we completed the reconstruction of the church building and the neighboring school building, kitchen, library, and began to serve in our new church.
Even though the new church is a 15-minute drive from the former church, the very thought of driving through the mountains proved psychologically difficult for some of our members who live close to downtown Honolulu. We have lost some families, but gained more. We have Sunday school, the children serve, and sing in the choir where my matushka practices with them.
On a personal
Matushka Iya
  • Fr. Nektarius, people usually see you in churches, where you visit with your myrrh-flowing icon. But few people know about your secular life, about your mother in particular.....
  • Blythe grew up in a not very church-going family, but she loved music and sang in the choir at the same Epiphany Episcopal Church in Honolulu, where our Orthodox liturgy began at the end of their service. But this we discovered later. In the mid-1990s, she converted to Orthodoxy and was given the name Iya in baptism. Interestingly, the same weekend that Blythe was baptized, I was tonsured a reader.
We married, and when I was ordained a deacon in 2018, Iya became a matushka. She is of Japanese descent, a math teacher by profession, and teaches at a Catholic high school. In the temple, she leads the choir and teaches the younger generation to read and sing.
Honolulu
  • And what is your secular profession?
  • I was a policeman, and after I was badly injured in the line of duty, I switched to investigative work. Almost at the same time, the icon became myrrh-flowing, and I had more opportunity to pilgrimage with it. On trips I take my computer with me and work. When there is a lot of work, one of the attendants is in the temple with the icon, and I work with documents - in the church office or in the car.
I love my job, but I still look forward to the time when I retire and can devote more time to the icon of the Mother of God and the temple.
  • Have you counted how many temples and monasteries you have visited with the icon?
  • This year it will be 15 years since I have been traveling with the Iveron of Montreal (Hawaii) Icon. As long as Brother Joseph Munoz has been traveling with the Montreal Icon. Only by car I travel more than 160 thousand kilometers a year, not counting flights from Hawaii to the continent and back!
The icon and I have visited over 1700 temples around the world
The icon and I have visited over 1700 temples around the world, in the US and Canada - over 1200 in almost every state except maybe one or two. And wherever I have traveled, I never have seen empty temples.
Very many I remember are either simple parishioners or students at Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, St. Tikhon's Seminary and St. Vladimir's Seminary.
Some priests come up to me and ask, “Do you remember me? I was a seminarian and I was friends with a girl. Now I am a priest, she is my matushka, and we have four children!”
The icon was sent for sale, and it became myrrh-flowing
https://preview.redd.it/0p0tfx53lk1d1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=500917549dc6315169d61b4c47bd523ba7cc52b2
  • How did the icon begin to flow the myrro?
  • It happened in 2007. In the late 1990s, Father Anatoly traveled to Toronto and bought a small icon from a church kiosk. It was sold at a sale for $20 because it was considered too dark. It was the last one, and the grandmothers argued over who would buy it. Matushka Nadezhda, who worked at the kiosk, said: “Let the icon go to Hawaii.” And Father Anatoly bought the icon. He brought it to the temple and gave it to me for my angel's day.
In 2006 my bride and I got married, we moved the icon to our new apartment and put it on the highest bookshelf.
In 2007, I began to feel an odor throughout the apartment. I told my cousin and she too sensed an odor similar to what the flowers of the macorange plant smell like (it's a mixture of rose and orange scents). I'm highly allergic to smells, and at the store, I can't even go near the shelves of cleaning products. But I wasn't allergic that time. Still, I asked my wife what it smelled like. And even joked, “Are you trying to get rid of me?” She confirmed that the air in the apartment was fragrant. The odor came and went.
Just about that time, I was injured on duty and taken to the surgical ward. I remember when I woke up from anesthesia after surgery, I immediately felt a familiar aroma. It smelled like roses again.
At home I had a small cross, I looked at it and saw drops of liquid on it. I thought, where did that come from? And again I smelled the same odor of roses.
Time went by. One day I was working at home in my office. There I had a red corner with icons. Suddenly I noticed our cat entered the room and came to the red corner. He stood on his hind legs just at the spot where the Iveron Montreal Icon of the Mother of God stood on the shelf. The cat started sniffing and was about to jump up on the shelf, which he had never done before. I went over to put him away, and then I smelled the aroma again - and so strong! It was October 6th.
I called my wife over and she again confirmed that it smelled like rose. We started looking for where the scent was coming from. I raised my hands and found that the shelf was wet and the smell of roses was coming from there. I picked up an icon and an oily liquid - myrrh - trickled out of it. The myrrh flowed right from under the dust on the icon. Then drops began to appear on the icon itself.
https://preview.redd.it/gk6898dzlk1d1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e4d28b6d799c873f6fb30a0e3ea10db19d5eebb
We knew about the myrrh-flowing Iveron Icon of the Mother of God of Montreal because our parish is named after her, but I had never seen it myself, it had never come to Hawaii. I was told that Brother Joseph Munoz was going to come with the icon, but while he was living on earth, he was not able to do so. Perhaps after his martyrdom he was here with the icon.
We blotted the icon, but it kept getting wet again and again. Then I realized that the icon was myrrh-flowing. And the cross is also myrrh-flowing.
My godmother, a Serbian, advised me to tell the priest about it. We brought the icon and the cross to the church. Father Anatoly served a prayer service and said: “Now we have a myrrh-flowing icon of the Mother of God, and it will change all our lives.”
After Christmas, with the blessing of Vladyka Kirill, we brought the icon and the cross to the Radoste-Scorbiaschensk Cathedral in San Francisco and left them there for several months.
I returned to Hawaii, not knowing what would happen to the icon: maybe it would be left in the cathedral or given to some monastery.
The clergy noticed that when people prayed before the icon, it began to myrrh-flow more.
In 2008, the archbishop said that the icon was returning to Hawaii. I rejoiced. We have our own myrrh-flowing icon! The clergy at the cathedral told me how they had begun to notice that when they prayed before the icon, it began to myrrh-flow more.
On the Sunday of the Solemnity of Orthodoxy, the icon was first taken out of the altar for the faithful to worship. Before that it was in the altar, and its presence in the cathedral was kept in secret.
Vladyka Kirill told the priests to change the absorbent cotton inside the icon, but not to tell anyone that the icon was here. The faithful were anointed with ointment, even not everyone got absorbent cotton with ointment, but then people who were anointed with ointment began to come to the bishop and to the priests of the cathedral and say that they were healed! Some from cancer, some from other diseases.
During the Week of Triumph of Orthodoxy, the icon and the cross were placed in the cathedral so that people could pray and lay their hands on them, and soon we took them to Hawaii. The cross began to be kept permanently in the church as a blessing to the parishioners, and the icon of the Mother of God was assigned a keeper.
How I became an icon keeper
  • A keeper is the person called an "iconophore" (icon keeper) in Greek. This Greek word was used by Pushkin in his works, but more often in Russia they used to say “icon bearer”.
  • Yes. In a broad sense it is a person who takes care of church utensils and the temple as a whole. Vladyka Kirill told me that since the icon of the Mother of God is constantly myrrh-flowing, people should be witnesses to it. And not only to see the miracle with their eyes, but also to feel it with their hearts, so the icon should visit as many temples and monasteries as possible, and it should have a keeper who will take care of it and travel with it to the parishes.
I asked who would do all this and he pointed to me.
I was confused and began to say I have a wife, a job, a cat. I work every day, I pay my loan. So it should be someone else. “The Mother of God came to you and chose you. And She had a reason for that,” the Vladyka said. - "And you must answer Her call. Of course, you can refuse, but God doesn't offer that a few times in life, and there may never be another opportunity to serve Him. So make up your mind!” - and I agreed, putting all my hope in the Mother of God.
https://preview.redd.it/jrgd8gu9ok1d1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=71883923a3342e08f053fc7f9b34ce573103d5cf
We brought the icon to the island, and since then it has been traveling around the world for almost 15 years, and millions of people in hundreds of churches pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary in front of this small icon. In one church in Georgia alone, where we were in 2014, more than 100,000 people came to worship her. The Georgian patriarch then told us that only in that small church two women were healed of cancer. They were healed during a prayer service, which the priest of that temple served for the family and their loved ones late in the evening. Among those praying were those two women.
The woman who had died five minutes earlier was placed an icon on her chest, she breathed, and her heart began to beat
It is noteworthy that in those days many possessed people were healed in Georgia and even a woman who had died five minutes ago. They put an icon on her chest, she breathed and her heart began to beat.
In one monastery I saw the healing of a girl. She wriggled in front of the icon, then a priest came out of the altar, prayed and anointed her with ointment. I had never seen an exorcism rite before, and for me what I saw then was the most frightening and at the same time spiritually strengthening.
People tried to hold her down, and at one point the girl screamed loudly. The Abbess asked if we could put the icon on her chest. At that moment I looked at her face - distorted and really “demonic”. We put the icon on the girl's chest, she raised her hands to the icon and tried to hug it like a child. And suddenly an incredible aroma began to emanate from the icon and penetrate all corners of the temple.
Later the Abbess told me that the girl was healed the same day and was playing quietly with the other children. It is unbelievable that they tried to drive out the unclean spirit from the girl for months and could not. And they anointed her with peace from the icon only once - and she was completely healed.
I know a priest in Washington, D.C., who is a Catholic priest. His friend, a Catholic priest-exorcist in Rome, told him how difficult it is for them to exorcise spirits there. And our priest sent him myrrh from our Hawaiian icon.
“What did you send us? - the exorcist from Rome wrote to him. - “People are being healed. Can you send more?” We sent him myrrh, of course. We send to anyone who asks.
  • Do you visit temples of other denominations?
  • As a rule, no. They don't ask. Catholics, Anglicans usually come themselves to the places where the icon is.
A non-Orthodox woman asked me to come with an icon to her son in the hospital - and he was healed
I can bring an icon home, to the hospital, if they invite me to visit a sick person. I even visited a sick Muslim girl. There was a case when a non-Orthodox woman asked me to come with an icon to her son in the hospital - and he was healed.
Some people are indignant and say that I should visit only the Orthodox with an icon. But everyone can come to the temple and ask for healing. You cannot forbid people to come to the Mother of God and ask for help.
One thing is sacraments, but it is unfair to close the icon for prayer from those who have not yet come to the right faith. You cannot separate some people from others. It is unmerciful!
One must be patient with God
  • Fr. Nektarius, how do you choose where to go with an icon?
  • I don't choose them myself. The Mother of God decides everything. And I receive certain signs. I feel, for example, that I need to go to Texas. Then I usually wait, because with God, as with people, you have to be patient. He is patient with us!
I'm waiting, praying, and all of a sudden I get a call from a minister in north Texas asking: “Can you come to Texas?” And then I get a call from a priest in Austin, from south Texas, who also invites me to come. And after him - regardless of those priests - I get a call from the abbess of a convent in Houston. And all this happens within a few days. And they offer dates close to each other, even though they had not even agreed. This is how the Mother of God guides me.
I have learned to read such signs and never force trips. I am like a humble “donkey” that stands by and waits to be taken and pulled in one direction or another.
In the beginning, I tried to force it, to initiate trips myself, but things didn't work out, things went wrong.
For example, a few years ago I was with an icon in a church in San Francisco, and I was offered to visit one of the monasteries. A group of clergy gathered and went with the icon in one car, and I went in another. Suddenly I noticed that I was falling asleep. I decided to stop at a coffee shop, bought coffee and saw a Woman at the car. “You need to go back,” She said. “How?” I asked. “You don't have to go any further. Go back.” I opened the car door and felt a strong odor of peace waft out of the car. But the icon wasn't there! I turned around - the Woman was gone. I realized that it was the Mother of God, so I went back.
A monastery as a gift
Nearby stood a Young Woman, “Get up, it's time to get on the plane,” She said. I took my things, and She disappeared
And this case is not the only one. Once I was flying from Honolulu to Fresno, California, with a layover in San Francisco. It was about two hours before landing, so I decided to take a nap and put the icon in its cover under my head. They announced boarding and I was still asleep. They were announcing my name on the loudspeaker, but I didn't hear. Suddenly someone patted me on the shoulder. A Young Woman was standing next to me. “Get up, it's time to get on the plane,” She said. I picked up my things and She disappeared.
In Fresno, the Abbess of the monastery, Mother Markella, and her sisters were waiting for me. I approached her, and she said, “Did the Mother of God appear to you?” - I said, “What do you mean?” - and I realized Who was the Young Woman who woke me up at the airport.
The Abbess told me that a family from Ukraine had come to the monastery and their daughter was very sick. She asked me to bless the girl with an icon and anoint her with holy ointment. And the girl was healed!
Her father, who worked in construction, was so happy that he rebuilt that monastery. This is a convent in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Life-Giving Source”, one of the most beautiful women's monasteries.

The man in the cloak
  • October 31 marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic death in Athens of Brother Joseph Munoz-Cortez, who for 15 years was the keeper of the myrrh-flowing Iveron of Montreal Icon of the Mother of God. Have you ever felt fear while traveling?
  • Once in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I saw a man enter the church after a prayer service. The priest at that time was just anointing the people with ointment. The man was wearing a long cloak. And since I'm a police officer, I usually have an instinct that something is wrong. So I start watching.
The man knelt down and started crying. I realized that the Mother of God was now doing something with him, with his soul
The man approached the icon. I also approached and looked carefully at his hands. He knelt down and began to cry. He cried a lot. I realized that the Mother of God was doing something with him, with his soul.
The man approached the priest, he anointed him with myrrh, and the man came to me. He unzipped his cloak, pulled out a large hunting knife and handed it to me. He told me that he had come out of his office for lunch and then he saw a flyer that someone had put up, probably someone from the church - about the Hawaiian icon coming to their temple. And he heard a voice urging him to destroy the icon and kill the person who brought it. The voice in his head played over and over again. When he came to the temple to destroy the icon, he felt that someone hugged him from behind, started breathing in his ear and sort of kissed his neck like his mom used to do when he was a child. He felt his mom holding him in her arms, fell to the floor, and the voice disappeared.
This man later embraced Orthodoxy, but before that he knew nothing about the faith.
I always remember the words of our Archbishop Kirill - never to travel alone. The Mother of God in Her image is certainly a protector. But I remember what happened to Brother Joseph in Athens. And with the myrrh-flowing Iveron of Montreal icon that went missing and of which no trace has been found to this day. That is why I value every minute, every second, as long as a copy of it - our Hawaiian icon - is with us. Because at any moment it too may, God forbid, disappear.
Deacon Nektary Youngston.

2024.05.20 18:38 GrbgCllctr Balloon & Wine Festival feedback

Will anyone who ventured to the festival this past weekend provide some feedback please? It's been years since we have been to it, primarily because it was such a cluster back then we didn't fully enjoy ourselves. We were tempted to return this year due to the concert lineup advertised, but bailed on the idea. The good, the bad and the ugly feedback would be appreciated. It may help us decide if we want to try to attend next year. Thank you.
Edit: thank you all for your feedback; and to those who may leave feedback after this edit.

2024.05.20 10:59 CPC_Alice [Thoughts] I have thoughts

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening
I am CPC_Alice
So I was/still am watching through hwikky's videos (link to his channel here) because I'm a self-admitted big fan of Hololive. I got a thought as I see the love and passion in my heart being reflected in the fans that he meets and himself really.
I can only really confidently speak about Hololive, but I do not doubt the love and passion that people had for Nijisanji. Some of it still burns bright (most likely from the JP side tbh) and some of it got replaced by an ugly emotion. Do I wish ill will for Nijisanji's talents? Personally, not really. I am very far removed emotionally from it. I only really look at it in a way that is objective and based on evidence and logical steps. Based on those, there are certainly some who I wouldn't lift a finger on, but I wouldn't actively do anything to contribute on a downfall on.
That's myself tho. My thoughts and feelings... I guess it's time to do the weekly write up?
Thank fucking god. I thought you wouldn't stop yapping.
Onegai.....
------------------------------------------
So. Unless you have been living under a rock (on which case, congratulations?), the news of Nijisanji's restricted nature and absolute purging is a well known one. Only official Nijisanji posts are kept up. Everything else is purged. Funny about reddit, it didn't like the absolute nuking of posts in that subreddit. So there has been multiple old posts that has been popping up (and subsequently deleted later). It's funny really.
Then there is this tweet from Etna Crimson (linked the post instead because it has translation). Right in the feels. Gosh darn.
Right. So Nijisanji and AnimeExpo decided to team up and do a concert titled "Summer Jam Nijisanji EN". People had predictions. Then the selling of the concert tickets happen. Absolutely and utterly GRIM DARK for what is supposed to be a headlining concert for AnimeExpo. For a fair comparison, one has to remember Hololive EN's Connect the World.
So Cover's Q4 report is out. People take notice. Peeps are also very eager to see AnyColor's Q4 report. I am too if I gotta be honest lol. There are also some people who made memes, nice.
People also noticed that Cover still allowed for Mel to appear in promotional pieces for a fan event. Parallels were naturally done of course.
Random Ghost Maid out-performing a duo.
Here is another feels hit. Aged like Wine?
Sayu also tweeted something. Damn, be feeling the feels huh? Oh, she got to also stream ZZZ. Nice.
The Nijisisters also employed some KPop Stan tactics to boost up their beloved liver's "Infinity" song. I really have nothing to say about this but just fascinated horror.
Some translated lines from Riku. Hindsight is hilarious.
Michi also got her 100K subs. Nice!
Old meme, but it still popped up.
Someone asked if somehow our subreddit will be in their radar. Personally? I doubt it.
Round 3 of our Transparency. Nice.
Post about a JP content creator not doing videos anymore. Grim.
Mint did a Tweet gushing on things. What a heartwarming dork <3
A PSA about a "next great purge". Not really too sure how much influence they have on this subreddit tho...
Graduations only for Nijisanji ID. Grim.
Another Downfall edit with Nijisanji. Daymn.
A JP News Outlet didn't name drop any companies, but did report on the whole issue with mixing energy drinks and alcohol.
Someone pointed out that if AnyColor misses their Q4 forecast they will have an entire year of missing their forecasts. Yikes
Sayu has surpassed Zaion. Another Sayu post for the feels.
When you have results like this being compiled, you really gotta wonder at times y'know?
A sentiment screenshot in YahooJP Financial in regards to AnyColor stock
The schizos over at /vt/ that likes them numbers would eat their heart out on this. tldr: superchat revenue down.
Ex-Niji Liver got sponsored by Hoyo for HSR to do a cover song. Nice
A post about a retweet. You can check it out yourself.
Ah yes. Vox Akuma's 3 hand signed posters. It is hilarious that he had to specify that. It is a direct shot against Luca fr fr.
Sayu will also be in Hentai Matsuri. For a M&G, a Panel, and more apparently. Oh my. (TL note: Matsuri means "Festival")
Old Meme format applied to the empty Nijisanji subreddit.
So why did this post point out the canceled Niji projects? That's because Hololive just announced a new multi-media project. They have an actualanime now.
Something about ASAP Club (the one who sponsored that stream to mix energy drink + alcohol) turning off their replies and getting their community note taken off.
Elira's subs also got their gains lost in a flash.
Kuro and Mochi also doing some stuff in AnimeExpo. Nice
We're not NijiEN. Kek
Something about shipping delays in Niji Shop?
A fan's simple wish.
Anime Impulse's M&G on the Niji EN boys still hasn't sold out. Grim
Here is a little rant from a (former?)fan.
Someone pointed out some foreshadowing.
Maid Mint is doing a concert with Bao, Utano, and Miori. very nice!
Someone also posted a video.
Some people praising other folks and this said "folk" being a cute dork.
Another rant. Geez
kurosanji also gotten 9K members! Yay~ I also posted my thoughts.
Quite amazing when you don't have to ask huh?
Neopets Stream for Doki?
Elira's 3.0 brush up results.
So Petra and Finana are at 500K Subs huh?
Parrot is back at the mines again with another an Ex-Nijisanji video.
Favoritism Allegations? Who really knows hmn?
Riku Curry or MiCommet Stew Curry Combo? I'm a Hololive fan, what do you think?
I'm assuming movie quote?
Oh, the YahooJP Finance Board noticed the subreddit.
Doki's team won the Sajam Slam Tournament. Nice.
TTT got a convention appearance at Anime Impulse Phoenix
Oh, we also have a survey out. Please fill it out. Thanks
My brain is shot.
Thank you for reading
If you see a drop in quality, you're not mad. I'm just really tired.
Yours,
CPC_Alice

I recently got my hands on these stylish earmuffs and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The Coach raccoon earmuffs in black and white are made of high-quality sheep shearling fur and are perfect for those chilly winter days.
One size fits all, making them a convenient purchase for people of all ages. The off-white leather trim on the silver balls adds a touch of luxury, giving them an overall premium look. The earmuffs measure 4 inches in diameter or 12 inches in circumference, providing a comfy fit for everyone.
The most impressive part is the soft 100% Merino wool body, which not only looks great but also feels incredibly cozy. They come with the original Coach box and are in excellent condition with no flaws or issues.
Overall, these earmuffs are a perfect blend of style and warmth, making them a must-have accessory for your winter wardrobe. I paid $140 after tax for mine, but I'd happily recommend them to anyone looking for a high-quality earmuff.

🔗Luxurious Leather Earmuffs - Brown Shearling

I recently tried the Surell earmuffs, and let me tell you, they've become a staple in my daily life. Made of rich, genuine 100% lamb shearling, these earmuffs not only kept my ears warm during the cold winter months but also added a touch of style to my outfits.
Plus, their dry clean-only feature makes them perfect for those who value simplicity when it comes to taking care of their belongings. Despite the high price tag, I believe these earmuffs are worth every penny – a perfect luxury accessory for the fashion-focused individual.

🔗Comfy Chanel-inspired Faux Fur Earmuffs

https://preview.redd.it/vjr864avti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83a52c1854910b1e4535b43009815b2b24d3703d
In my quest for stylish and comfortable earmuffs, I stumbled upon the Surell Surrell Rex Rabbit Faux Fur Earmuff - Black. I was instantly drawn to their sleek design and the thought of cozying up with a touch of luxury. The earmuffs are crafted from fluffy faux beaver fur, making them not only attractive but also warm and comfortable.
One of the features that stood out to me was the well-thought-out construction. The headband is sturdy and solid, ensuring a snug and comfortable fit, and it doesn't dig into my head. The acrylic and polyester blend used in the fur provides the perfect balance of softness and warmth, keeping my ears toasty even on biting cold days.
However, there is one downside - the sizing can be a bit tricky. Some customers reported that the fit was a little too tight, leading to discomfort. But overall, the Surell Surrell Rex Rabbit Faux Fur Earmuffs are a practical and chic choice for anyone looking for a touch of luxury in their winter wardrobe.

🔗Black Tonal Shearling Earmuffs by Burberry

https://preview.redd.it/qb5or4mvti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b44319202a0406bbd924b99fa561db10135d8260
The Burberry Tonal Shearling Earmuffs in Black might just be the perfect addition to your winter wardrobe. I've been using them for the past few weeks, and I must say, they've become my go-to accessory.
The first thing that struck me about them was the quality of the materials. The earmuffs are made from a blend of sheepskin and shearling, which not only look great, but also feel incredibly cozy and warm on your ears. This high-quality combination ensures they're perfect for those chilly winter days.
One of the features I appreciate the most is the adjustable fit. They come with a slider, which allows you to easily customize the size to fit your head comfortably. It's a small detail, but it makes a huge difference when you're trying to stay warm and comfortable outside.
However, there have been a couple of minor drawbacks. The earmuffs can be a bit tricky to slip on and off due to the adjustable fit mechanism. It might take a little getting used to, but once you've got it down, it shouldn't be an issue.
Overall, the Burberry Tonal Shearling Earmuffs in Black are a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a stylish and practical way to keep their ears toasty this winter. Despite the minor inconvenience of slipping them on and off, the quality and warmth they offer make up for it.

🔗Burberry Kids' Check Fleece Earmuffs with Teddy Fleece Comfort

https://preview.redd.it/8anwwbxvti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de6c01483e07e67270ad01147373c3bb1394a2d8
I have been an avid fan of Burberry for years, and when I saw their iconic check pattern on these Burberry Kid's Check Fleece Earmuffs, I knew I had to try them out. These earmuffs provided the perfect balance of style and comfort for my kids.
The quality of the earmuffs had me sold right away, as they are lined with soft fleece that feels fantastic against their little ears. I also love how versatile they are; they can be worn by both boys and girls, making them suitable for the whole family.
The flexible headband is a game-changer, as it ensures a perfect fit without feeling constricting or uncomfortable. My kids never complain about wearing these earmuffs, which is a definite bonus.
However, one drawback I noticed was that the earmuffs do not come in many different colors, limiting the range of options for discerning customers. But overall, these Burberry Earmuffs are a great addition to our winter wardrobe, offering both fashion and protection from the cold.

🔗Fashionable CC Sherpa Fur Earmuffs in Ivory

https://preview.redd.it/4xdu83ewti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f7c819a5610868ef6ea067e6ae54f4841617234
I recently had the chance to try out the CC Beanie Sherpa Fur Earmuffs in Ivory color, and I must say, they're an essential addition to my winter wardrobe. The earmuffs are incredibly cozy, thanks to their luxuriously soft faux fur lining that feels like a warm embrace in these chilly months.
What really stood out for me was how adjustable they are for a perfect fit, making them suitable for both adults and kids alike. I appreciate the fact that they're versatile - I've been wearing them when running errands, at playdates, and even when just lounging around the house.
However, there are a couple of things I noticed. Firstly, because they're hand-dyed, the color might vary slightly from one pair to another. Secondly, the dimensions might differ slightly due to the manual measurement process, so it's worth bearing these things in mind when you're purchasing them.
All in all, the CC Beanie Sherpa Fur Earmuffs provide fantastic warmth and style combined. You can rest assured knowing they're made from authentic CC brand quality and are relatively easy to care for – just remember to hand wash and lay flat to dry.

🔗Warm Ear Chenille Earmuffs in Eye-catching Wine by Inc

https://preview.redd.it/rovhg3vwti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7106bacac42dcb6dc8ee71de5c43c2fdd15c783a
My first impression of the Inc International Concepts Chenille Earmuffs in Wine was the softness of the material. The faux fur and shell were comfortable on my ears, and I loved the filling made of polyester that added to the warmth.
I appreciated how these chenille earmuffs could fit most people, making them a great investment for anyone who wants to stay toasty. Using them has been a cozy experience, and I don't mind at all that they're named after the prestigious fashion house Chanel. Overall, the comfort they provide and the warmth they bring make them an excellent choice for keeping ears warm during colder days.

🔗Stylish Cable Knit Earmuffs for Warmth and Comfort

https://preview.redd.it/vbz1l45xti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=353ff0ec5de5d8c5d551e5a95533a751ff59e1a8
When I first tried the CC Cable Knit Earmuffs, I was struck by the softness of the Sherpa lining and the coziness it provided. The adjustable fit made it easy to wear, and the flattering design meant I felt good while wearing them. However, I did notice that the color variation between screens could alter the appearance of the product.
Nonetheless, these earmuffs are perfect for keeping your ears warm and comfortable, making them a great gift option.

🔗Sanrio Hello Kitty Foldable Cosplay Earmuffs for a Whimsical Touch

https://preview.redd.it/4b9l7o9yti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=157a007ad067df556dfb3666da2150ff125794dc
Ever since I started using the Sanrio Hello Kitty Foldable Cosplay Earmuff, my daily life has been filled with joy and a touch of sweetness! The super soft microfiber base and comfy, foldable earmuffs make these the perfect accessory for any rave festival or day out. Not only do they look absolutely adorable with cute Hello Kitty ears and red bow detailing, but they also provide excellent noise-cancellation.
One of my favorite features is the adjustable band, which ensures a perfect fit for every user. The earmuffs are made of 100% polyester, making them a versatile choice for a year-round fabric construction. However, some users may find the lack of lining and unlined feature slightly bothersome for prolonged use. Overall, the Sanrio Hello Kitty Foldable Cosplay Earmuff adds a unique and fun touch to any outfit while providing practical noise-cancellation, making it a perfect accessory for any Hello Kitty adventure!

Buyer's Guide

Chanel, a well-known luxury brand, has expanded its product line to include earmuffs. These fashionable accessories provide both style and functionality, making them an attractive choice for those seeking both comfort and chic appeal. In this buyer's guide, we'll discuss some of the essential features and considerations when purchasing Chanel earmuffs, helping you make an informed decision.

Warmth and Insulation

https://preview.redd.it/x74agmiyti1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=828f6233b3f46757552a1942c96c9eab86241fe6
When considering Chanel earmuffs, it's crucial to look into the warmth and insulation they provide. Chanel earmuffs often feature thick foam or similar materials that provide excellent insulation against cold temperatures. Make sure to check the manufacturer's specifications or the product description to guarantee that the earmuffs will protect you from the elements.

Sound Quality

If sound quality is a priority, ensure that the earmuffs you choose are designed to reduce noise and not amplify it. Consider earmuffs with noise-cancelling technology or those engineered to minimize sound leakage, providing a more quiet and comfortable experience.

Design and Style

Chanel is known for its sophisticated and elegant designs. Look for earmuffs made with high-quality materials and featuring the signature Chanel quilting and logo elements. Remember that investing in Chanel earmuffs means you are not only buying warmth and protection but also a fashion statement.

https://preview.redd.it/16igej61ui1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=076b417b8e0d2865e5a3ec0004d8c91bdf5d0ca3

Adjustability

Earmuffs should be comfortable, and adjustability can help ensure the best fit for your needs. Look for options that allow you to customize the earmuff's fit around the ears and head to achieve maximum comfort.

Maintenance and Care

Chanel earmuffs, like any other luxury accessory, require proper care to maintain their quality. Make sure to understand the care instructions provided by the manufacturer, which will often include cleaning and storage guidelines. Proper care will help your earmuffs maintain their appearance and functionality for years to come.

Warranty

https://preview.redd.it/29lzfbe1ui1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b9da5233c1bdedbe618e30df5c4d49656819c6f
Protect your investment with a warranty, if available. A warranty will provide peace of mind and ensure that any defects in materials or workmanship are covered. Check with the manufacturer for warranty terms and conditions.
When purchasing Chanel earmuffs, consider the warmth and insulation provided, sound quality, design and style, adjustability, maintenance, and warranty. By focusing on these aspects, you'll be more likely to choose the right earmuffs to fit both your personal needs and your sense of style.

2024.05.20 02:56 Perfect-Thanks2850 Undecided but so far so good…

31m here.
Basically drank like any 20-something in my 20s. Because of my work and social life I was constantly at open bars, airport lounges, parties… alcohol was nearly always available and mostly always free. I became a connoisseur. I could make phenomenal cocktails for friends, I learned too much about wine.
It was relatively fine for years. In 2019 I restarted my workout / health regiment and limited drinking to 1 day per week. It was honestly easy for me, once I got in the rhythm of it.
Then COVID…
I drank probably 95% of the days in 2020 - 2021… as things got back to normal, my habits never did.
Then I finally had a wake up call after a bachelor party weekend in Vegas… I had a total of 40 drinks across 2 consecutive days. Didn’t throw up once, was essentially in a functioning blackout at some point each night. I realized there’s no way I need to put my body through this ever again…
But alas, I would go back and forth. I’d take 1-3 months at a time off alcohol. It was never really that difficult after the first week or two. Just became my new normal.
Anyway, fast forward to today, and I’m spacing it out again. I don’t know that I can commit to a completely NA life, but it seems like my discipline is strong enough to stick to the decisions I make.
I’m undecided how to proceed. I don’t really have any long term goals, but I do like where I’m at for now.
I’m choosing to drink less in situations where it’d be incredibly normal to. When offered a drink at a festival, I declined. I still have a wine collection at home I see every day, but haven’t touched a bottle in over a month. My sleep is better, I’ve lost weight, my anxiety is easier to manage…
I don’t know… I want to believe it’s possible to practice a new normal where moderation is center. And where alcohol doesn’t play the role it used to for me.
I feel like when seeking out community for support though, it’s mostly people looking to stop altogether. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for it. I’m behind you 100% if that’s the decision you know you need to make.
But I’d love to hear from people who have successfully reduced their consumption and have gotten to a place of balance / moderation.

2024.05.19 22:20 ColoradoThinMint Rant: children/entitled parents ruining downtown street festival

So we are in a town in the Bay Area and have a wine festival (there’s beer too but know mostly as a wine festival). Previously the town would let you walk around with your drink visiting all the different vendors. This year we were limited to designated areas but they didn’t make those areas 21+ exclusive (they had an exclusive children’s area with rides, games, face painting etc) but didn’t do the same for adults and the 2 adults areas were both on grass areas (children’s was in a dirt parking lot area). Well it’s a nice day and because parents want to drink too they decide to invade the grassy 21+ area and their their little precious’s run around like little crack addict fiends. I saw a minimum of 4 adults almost get nailed by a frisbee a group of kids were just slinging around without any kind of precision or care. Then this group of Instagram mombies started up a fucking bubble machine that was blowing a mega ton of bubbles into the air and directly into our group. We were all waving them away and looking annoyed but they were just taking pictures and oohing and awwing over how cute their kids were.

2024.05.19 04:58 goobsnabs am i wrong for thinking they’re being dumb?

going to keep vague as possible, as i don’t want people getting mad for sharing my opinion lol. probably going to be long my apologies.
so basically my sisters pregnant again. which isn’t necessarily bad but i don’t think it’s the best idea. at the end of the day it’s not my life she’s an adult and can make her own choices so i don’t really care what she does. i’m just very wary on how kids grow up (i came from a great family, but my parents weren’t very emotionally available it was more financially more on that later) im not going around being like get rid of it to her and i get kids are a touchy subject. she’s my sister and i love her, of course im willing to help and all that i just feel like she’s doing stuff she doesn’t have to be if that makes sense.
one of my other siblings got mad at me the other day when we were talking abt our sisters situation and i gave my opinion to them again. i was told i should keep my opinion to myself and just be happy for them.
i just don’t think financially and mentally it’s the best for them or the kids but this is my opinion that i shared privately with parents and other siblings not involved. she’s got a kid already, and her situation has improved since having her first child (very proud of her for being better for her kid) but not to the point where i think it’s smart to have more. love that she’s in a place where she thinks it’ll be great and i love that she’s found someone and all that truly am so happy for her. i just feel she’s so rushing when waiting would be such a better choice. but here’s why i think waiting would be better.
her and her partner maybe make 100k together which by all means is not bad at all. her partner makes most of it, so another kid means either she stays home full time and partner works more or they both work and pay for childcare which makes no sense with the price of that these days. they do have debt. along with the fact that they have a roommate (i think the roommate is more dependant on them then they are on the roommate but still). the roommate makes it literally 10x worse. their house is AWFUL it’s full of pets and the three adults in the house do not do laundry and the roommate keeps bringing in more animals. unfortunately from what i’ve heard they also don’t take the best care of the animals, i’ve heard they have cats and they rarely empty the litter boxes. leading to overflowing boxes. dishes pile up and all that (i personally have not seen the house in person as im a neat freak but i’ve seen it in the background on facetime and the like). that scares me as my current nephew/niece is a toddler and could easily ingest something they shouldn’t.
they also haven’t really left the party stage, again it’s gotten better. but any chance for a festival or concert and u bet they’re going (not knocking them for having fun but priorities) and it’s not like they live super close to help (family) so they either have to get a sitter as the roommate will go with them or (this has happened A LOT used to happen more but still) a post will go up asking if anyone on their socials will be able to take care of my nephew/niece for the day/night. which of course it’s not like they’d have a stranger watch the kid but that just feels so irresponsible to me. i get spending the money ahead of time and maybe plans changing w the babysitter or whatever but still. UR ASKING SOCIAL MEDIA TO WATCH UR KID. gotta do what u gotta do i guess but again for a concert? really. along with the parties comes drugs which scares me as our family has bad history with it. and so does she, she has a history of addiction so i don’t think her still doing that is good even if she’s dialled it back.
don’t get me wrong i know my sister loves her kid and would do everything she could to give them the world and keep them safe. i just can’t stop thinking about, as she stated to me “i love them but baby name wasn’t as worth it as i thought it’d be”. drunk off her rocker less than 5 months ago(child was home with family).
again im not saying any of this to her, this is just conversation between family that still lives at home and everytime we talk about her situation none of them really care. a lot of this is in my head stuff. im just worried for my nieces and nephews. as i know how much childhood stuff can affect kids myself.
going back to me again i grew up in honestly a great house. my parents weren’t perfect but they tried. my dads high functioning autistic and would work ALL THE TIME so we grew up pretty much with a single mom (they didn’t divorce just always working) who drank at least 2-3 bottles of wine a week. she did everything she could and protected us and all that but she had 3 kids each 2 years apart that’s a lot to deal with alone (we also moved a lot which didn’t help her). so she wasn’t the most calm or patient taking care of 3 infants by herself. our house was lovely but again three kids so not the cleanest most of the time etc etc etc. again i love my parents i know they did the absolute best they could and they love and care for us all deeply but it effected all of us. i have countless stories of me going to the top of the stairs during arguments and stuff like that (my dads not abusive but they’d yell a lot especially as kids to us and each other) i know we all have trauma (even if one doesn’t wanna admit it lol) and we should all probably be in therapy (tried bringing that up and was told “no need for outsider perspectives”).
a lot of stuff happened to us that messed with us and it seems my sisters repeating the cycle which just makes me sad. i know there no perfect time to have kids and i love that she’s doing better now that she’s got one, but just seeing them struggle as much already with the one they have and then making more seems so silly to me. don’t get me wrong i think the first kid was a great idea. yes they’re struggling but they can make due with the one. physically, i don’t think they can do more than the one they’ve got. cause as great of a job as they’re doing with it (they do try, like it’s clear my niece/ nephew is loved by their parents) but everyone has limits right and again the energy for just the one is a lot for them. not even to mention financials. again not my circus not my monkeys it’s not like it really effects me so i don’t care that much. im not losing sleep over it yk. it just saddens me to see all the struggle that could have been avoided on the parent side (my sister) and the kids. had they just taken another year or two let my nephew/niece get a bit older and them gain more parenting experience, get a house by themselves instead of renting with the roommate, grow up a little chore wise and maybe even pay the debt off so they can focus on the kids.
again im not saying any of this to her just sharing with others in the family as they’re also talking about all of her other struggles. i wasn’t saying i won’t be there to help or anything like that. just threw me off that me saying “do they really think having the seconds the best decision right now?” was taken like that by my family and i wanted to see what others think. i know their kids will be loved but it takes more than that to raise a kid, im just worried that everyone involved is not going to have the best shot because its rushed.
AITHA for thinking waiting woulda been smarter for both the adults and kids in this situation and voicing that opinion in a private setting?
