2024.05.22 05:00 Lil_Miss_Poppins I need a reality check

I auditioned for James and the Giant Peach at my local community theatre. I’m a 24yo woman who has previously always played leading lady/ingenue type roles (Wednesday Addams, Dorothy in WoO, Chava in FotR). I had auditioned for Ladybug or Spider. I got a callback and it went really well!
Cast list came out last night and I got cast as Sponge. Honestly on me for not writing this on my audition sheet, but I truly, actively did not want to play either of the Aunts. They’re silly, but still child abusers. I am literally a nanny, my job is to love kids (I know, it’s acting, but still). And they’re like, really silly, goofy, great for character actors™️. I have always played the complete opposite character type, meaning that is not my strength so I worry I will not be as good as they expect.
Also, I messaged the director bc he spelled my name wrong on the cast list, and he said to me “You had the best singing callback. We decided that you’d be able to help carry [Spiker] vocally and Spiker and Sponge are much larger roles than any of the insects.” It feels almost like a backhanded compliment, like “You sang prettiest so here’s a role where that doesn’t matter at all”.
I feel like an entitled brat saying “poor me, I got one of the biggest roles in the show” 😭 I am rolling my eyes at myself. Please be gentle, but also give me a reality check. Tia 💛

2024.05.22 04:05 whiterobot10 I need a list of your most evil and messed up spells.

One of my golems learned how to do magic, somehow, and I want to make an utterly terrifying weapon of war. So far I have taught them some general utility spells as well as the following:
In my personal opinion, this is not nearly enough different ways to ruin the days of one or more people who dared make the mistake of slighting me, so I humbly request suggestions for spells to teach my soon-to-be walking weapon of mass destruction.

2024.05.22 03:51 Such-Twist-1842 I need brand recommendations

I'm in my late-twenties and have gotten really into elevating my wardrobe over the past two years. I work in the industry, so I get discounts across a variety of brands, which has helped tremendously. Because of this, I've been able to punch a bit above my salary; my closet is filled with brands like Corridor, Wax London, Gitman Brothers, Todd Snyder, etc.
I'm moving to a different client soon, meaning I no longer have this access. Does anyone have good brand recommendations? I'll list what brands I love/wear for context. I'm into timeless pieces, but lean more coastal/relaxed styling.
Brands I currently love:
I'm really looking for anything under $100 for button-downs, pants, etc. Stuff that'll last me years to come but won't break the bank. Rhythm and Elwood are going to continue to be staples in my closet because they're on the cheaper(ish) side, but I can't afford the rest of these brands anymore.
And please, no fast fashion! I'm not into everything that goes into those brands, and I've found the quality sub-par, even at the incredibly cheap clothing.
Edit: Spelling error & added one brand

2024.05.22 03:46 TheHittite Let's talk straight swords

I figured I'd continue this sort of thing with the next weapon class down the list.
Historically, straight-bladed, one-handed or hand-and-a-half swords were sidearms. Either as a backup weapon on the battlefield or as personal defense/a status symbol for everyday carry. I think the devs did a good job of capturing that in game. As a class, straight swords are rarely if ever an outright bad choice, but in any specific circumstance they'll fall well behind a more specialized option. Once you have access to bigger, flashier, or more impressive options they tend to fall by the wayside. But if your main breaks or is the wrong choice for a fight, it's comforting to know that you always have something that's basically OK to fall back on.
One thing that's not historically accurate is the power stance. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. The damage output was pretty impressive and the specific way you swing both of them seems to have a more generous hitbox than one alone. Would I recommend doing it yourself? Well, definitely with Blue Flame and maybe with a couple others.
There are 18 straight swords in this game so let's get into individual details.
Shortsword
The main thing you notice using this is it's short. Deep insight, I know. Thing is, this is Dark Souls 2 and weapon hitboxes are at least vaguely the same size as the model. At times you can really feel the lack of reach when you find yourself whiffing attacks more than is healthy. The second thing you notice about the Shortsword is it isn't very strong. Straight swords don't have a whole lot of variance in their damage, but the Shortsword is definitely on the lower end of the scale and the above average counter damage can only do so much to cover for it. The third thing you notice is that the moveset is bloody fantastic. I'm always going to value a straight sword with a thrusting attack over one that only slashes. Thrust is just plain a better damage type than slash, it improves performance in tight spaces, and it gives your attacks more forward momentum to keep up aggression (and make up for short reach). It also may just be me, but it feels like the thrusting heavy attacks are better than slashing against NPC invaders too.
Longsword
It's only the second entry on the list and my thrust attack bias is rearing its head again. The 2 handed strong attack of the Longsword is just plain good. Between the damage and the stagger, there's parts of the game where I treat it more like a thrusting sword than a straight sword. There are a few other swords that have the same attack, but the Longsword is the strongest of the bunch (though it's only in the middle of the pack for the overall weapon class). The free fire infused one you can get is fine enough for the price. It performs about as well on average as the base model but it has some advantages against fire weak or slash resistant enemies and some glaring disadvantages once you hit a water or fire level. It's a lot more useful in vanilla where the Dull Ember is a lot harder to get. One last thing: I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up the Longsword's performance in PVP. I don't know nearly enough about that aspect of the game to really talk about it, but something about the specific intersection of reach, stagger, moveset, and requirements means this gets an S rank in a LOT of tier lists.
Broken Straight Sword
Something has to be the worst option, and it's the broken sword's thankless duty to fulfill this role. It's pitifully short, pathetically weak, and disappointingly fragile. It exists mostly to give players a clearly visible bottom of the barrel to compare other weapons to. One thing it does have going for itself is the lowest stamina costs of literally any weapon which is at least something. Poison or Mundane infusion can even make it borderline usable for the masochists out there.
Broadsword
One thing I've noticed about DS2's weapon design is that the first weapon you find in a specific class gets treated as the "default" and most others will be variants of it in some way. The Broadsword fits that mold here and that's not a bad place to be. It's got a decent moveset, decent damage, and it's decently easy to get and use. The thing is that being the archetype for the Basically OK weapon class means that you don't stand out at all. Its damage is a little above average, but it's reach is a little below and it's still well in the middle of the pack for both. All other stats and its moveset are completely standard. There's nothing wrong with using it, as long as you don't need to stab anything that is, but you'll find plenty of better options down the line.
Foot Soldier Sword
Lightweight, extremely low requirements, good reach, decent base damage for infusions, and an excellent moveset. If it weren't for the incredibly low durability this would be one of the best swords in the game. As it stands, well, it can make a decent emergency backup option as long as you don't need to rely on it too much.
Heide Knight Sword
This got done dirty in the Scholar version. First by being shifted from a guaranteed drop to a rare drop, and second when they made infusion much easier to unlock and devalued pre-infused and natural elemental weapons. It's still a Basically OK weapon but it's been knocked down to niche use rather than a staple. I'd say the best use case is someone who wants to use Faith from the start (for instance, helping a friend with a dedicated support build in co-op) and wants at least some payoff in damage before late game. I used it as my left hand weapon in power stance for quite a lot of the game since I wasn't planning to buff that hand anyway and it pulled its weight. That said, there's a reason I didn't use it in the right hand. I'm not a big fan of the one handed moveset. It's not bad per se but the underhanded swings just feel less powerful and I'm not sure why the strong attacks are borrowed from the Royal Dirk.
Varangian Sword
These first 7 swords are available pretty much at the start of the game, with varying levels of effort, so I'm loosely grouping them together as the "starter pack." Out of these, the Varangian Sword is the most viable as a main weapon rather than simply a backup. Broadsword moveset, Longsword length, and noticeably higher damage output than any of the other 6. Durability is something you have to keep in mind, and it can be especially bad for newer players who aren't as experienced with making it last, but for me it was mostly a non-issue.
Blue Flame
You know, when Elden Ring came out and there wasn't a single melee weapon that doubled as a casting tool I was a little confused. But then looking at the ones that appeared in DS2 and 3 and I start to think that the Blue Flame being actually pretty good as both a weapon and a casting tool was some sort of fluke. It's not really the best at either, as a staff it's a bit slow and only about third place in damage and as a sword it's Basically OK most of the time but suffers from the frequency of magic resistant enemies. But it lets me double buff easily in power stance and when you do, it's a blast to use. Now there is the question of infusion. Both Raw and Magic are basically direct upgrades in different ways. Raw works best if you plan to use it primarily as a sword since while it does improve the magic damage, it doesn't do so by a lot. Magic greatly improves spell damage, but is worse than base as a melee weapon, in no small part because it drops the physical damage down to "might as well not exist" level. Personally I think Raw is the better deal overall, especially since you have the option to apply Aromatic Ooze for an even better boost to spell damage than any spell buff, but I can see situations where more powerful spells could tip the balance in your favor. Also a heads up when you use this, due to some quirks in the buff formulas, Great Magic Weapon is only a few points weaker than Crystal on this weapon.
Red Rust Sword
This is an axe. Normally I would be fine with that since I fucking love the standard axe moveset for reasons I can't fully articulate, but this is not a particularly strong axe either. In fact at 40 Strength it's noticeably weaker than the Battle Axe even before you factor in the complete lack of counter damage. And the Battle Axe upgrades with normal titanite. And that;s not even touching on the Bandit Axe. Though granted it is at least strong for a straight sword if you count it as one. The one unique thing about the Red Rust Sword is its power stance performance (as you might have guessed from the person you get it from). It has straight sword compatibility and moveset priority but axe power stance moveset. This means you can pair it with some things that you normally can't pair with axes (daggers, thrusting swords, greatswords, spears, and lances specifically) and putting it in the left hand means it's less likely to override the moveset if you don't care for the axe power stance (and I don't).
Sun Sword
So the thing about weapons in DS2 with noticeably higher scaling than others in their class is they almost always have much lower base damage. This means that high stats are a requirement for use rather than a reward. Said scaling in this case is also a textbook example of DS2's misleading letter grades. The game tells you A/A but doesn't tell you that means 80%/45%. The other semi-unique feature, the one-handed stab, is not nearly as impressive or effective to me as the Longsword's two-handed one. And farming it is a complete pain in the ass even with the best luck boosts and a good plan. But let's take a step back from negativity and look at what this sword really wants you to do. It incentivizes physical stats and one handed use, which to me suggests one of two routes. Sword and board, especially since it comes with its own shield, but I've never felt that that's a particularly interesting playstyle. Or you can use it as the right hand in power stance, and that's where I think it shines. Again, having the option to use thrust damage when needed is very helpful, and the Sun Sword is one of the better options for this specific niche.
Drakekeeper's Sword
This just barely avoids being a direct upgrade to the Broadsword by having no counter damage. Above average reach and stagger, good damage, and high durability make this a very strong if not particularly flashy or dynamic choice. Just a pity that it's found almost at the end of the game.
Black Dragon Sword
Until you get very high stats, this is the strongest straight sword in the game. Both with a Raw infusion when compared to the physical options and with elemental infusions. And unlike the other strongest options, there's no traditional downside to balance it. High durability, Broadsword moveset, average reach, average weight, and no notable stat deficiencies. The real downside, aside from it being a pain to farm, is the opportunity cost of spending your boss upgrade material on something that is only the best of the Basically OK.
Yellow Quartz Longsword
Imagine a Longsword with a Broadsword moveset, worse damage, half the durability, and a bunch of crud smeared on the blade. Preorder weapons had a couple of hits and a bunch of misses. This one's a miss.
Possessed Armor Sword
This one has a few unique things going for it. The least remarkable thing is the above average reach, nice as it is. The moveset borrows a bit from axes and greatswords for a few attacks, and it works pretty decently. But the real draw is in the self-buff. L2 gives you 25 seconds of boosted fire damage at the cost of durability (much like the Watcher and Defender Greatswords). As for how well all of that works in practice, well it's not great but it's not really bad either. The buff doesn't add all that much damage, and fire is in many ways the worst damage type, but as long as you keep an eye on the durability and are not using it on things that resist it, it's Basically OK.
Ashen Warrior Sword
This sword has the same moveset as the Shortsword, with thrusting strong attacks when both one and two handed, so it makes a good first impression. And unlike the Shortsword it has decent reach so it's even better. The cracks start to show when you see the durability, though even then it's not a dealbreaker for me. That comes when you see the damage output and realize it traded actual real damage for bleed. Heartbreaking.
Puzzling Stone Sword
This weapon is unique top to bottom. The light attacks are already a pretty unique combination before you get into the weird extendo whip sword strong attacks. It's even got some weirdly high Dex scaling. Thing is, even with that scaling it's always on the lower end of damage for straight swords. And taking advantage of the extended reach with the strong attacks means dealing even less damage since they're way out of the sword's sweet spot. Still, as a rollcatcher or zoning tool it's pretty effective. Just ask Fencer Sharron.
Fume Sword
This is the longest straight sword by a decent margin, and acts even longer with those thrusting attacks. It has dark scaling, but no requirements in those stats and can be buffed with resin so it works just fine in physical builds. It also has above average counter damage. I think like the Sun Sword, this works best one handed with either a shield or another weapon, just like how its previous owner used it.
Ivory Straight Sword
It's a lightsaber. It deals pure physical Strike damage. It requires 40 Dex. It has no scaling. It weighs 0.5 pounds. It does not benefit from Flynn's Ring at all. It has 250 durability. It breaks after 25 swings no matter what you hit. It deals the least amount of poise damage of any weapon. It has the slowest attacks and the highest stamina costs of any straight sword. The 2 handed strong attack can deal 4 digit damage. Using that attack costs as much stamina as drawing a Twin-Headed Greatbow. I'm about 70% sure it can headshot. It's cool looking and unique. It sucks so bad. If you're intrigued by this thing's design and want to try to make the most of it, there's two different routes you can take to make it work. 1. Treat it like some sort of weird fucked up pocket great hammer and exclusively use the 2HR2. 2. Go play Elden Ring and build around the Carian Knight Sword or Coded Sword instead.

2024.05.22 02:47 SlyFox7470 Considerations on Decks to Play for a CEDH Tournament

Hey All, I have been testing many CEDH decks to bring into tournament play with an 80 min timer for consideration. I've narrowed it down to 4 decks with their pro's and con's. I would love to hear thoughts from vets and new cedh players alike on my thought process. The moxfields don't have primers made yet since a lot of the lines take inspiration from already made lists. I'll make rounds of this post in a couple reddit/discord groups.
Tasigur Broodlord; https://www.moxfield.com/decks/mnfcR1cMaUy5HvKgW_Jx7g
Pros
-Extremely Fast Combos, Potential to win turn 2-3 consistently
-Plays through stacks pretty well being more creature heavy with different lines available
-Commander can grind and manipulate through a table pretty consistently
-Easy fixing off 3 color manabase, no difficulty casting spells
-Large interaction
-Slightly off meta, mindslaver effects are ineffective unless opponent has piloted before
Cons
-Susceptible to graveyard hate
-Thoracle line available to praetor's grasp players
-Broodhoard line is interactable and non deterministic
-Slower and less card advantage than meta decks without Nezahal/Rhystic
Derevi Flicker Tempo; https://www.moxfield.com/decks/dE09DZy4uUekq_H-SRXFwA
Pros
-Cheats Commander Tax/Casts, ability to turn off an attack or turn on a land for politics can be relevant
-Stax Interaction can beat out breach and consultation decks pretty strong, plays through its own stax well
-Attack plan is strong against ad nauseum players, toolbox creatures lets creativity into deck plan
-Evades removal using blinks and taxes, allowing it to snowball easily
Cons
-Meta/Well-Known, lines can be predictable
-Susceptible to Wipes/Removal from Value Commanders like Niv-Mizzet
-Flying creatures don't play well into kraum decks
-Possible to turn off interaction from other decks at table but doesn't pack a lot of interaction on its own, will likely lose counterspell battles
-Decks win condition is non-deterministic and slow, will just lose to a table with 2 or more turbo decks like Rogsi/BlueFarm
Hermit Pod; https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tb_hmrXsREODeXOK6q4cRA
Pros
-Premier Toolbox/Stax Deck with strong interactivity despite being non-blue, a card exists for every situation
-Card advantage always available with Tymna
-Stax pieces are extremely strong against Breach Lines
-Strong Recursion available, card removal rarely effects the decks ability to win
Cons
-Extremely Linear Gameplan, Graveyard hate and removal of Kiki makes winning difficult
-Double Pip spells in 4 color deck can make for awkward color fixing situations even with perfect mana base
-Deck's win lines are slow and involve multiple interactible pieces fitting together, making winning in an 80 min setting possibly difficult
-Is meant to be the anti-blue deck at the table, off meta decks are sure to beat it
Maelstrom Wanderer; https://www.moxfield.com/decks/3KFo3A_72EKA7J-1wgKMrQ
Pros
-Extremely Fast, can win out of nowhere and take advantage of opponents board states easily
-Offmeta, unlikely that players will interact with anything that isn't so obviously problematic
-Beatdown plan is super relevant despite not having the Slicer clock.
-Creative ways to avoid breach loss, large creatures scare off Tymna/Kraum/Najeela
-"Biorhythm" Win available with ease in CEDH due to big evasive creatures being able to get through 9 life.
Cons
-Interaction is typically saved for game losing situations
-Draw power is pretty minimal, Rhystic, Fish-Stick, Library
-Cascade RNG can cause a fizzle and wasted resources
-Loses steam and gameplan to meta stax pieces (Drannith, Rule of Law Effects, Interrupter) without decent removal options.
-Dead cards in hand once the linear gameplan is executed

2024.05.22 02:47 AlwaysWantedToAsk93 Sassy characters

I think most of the characters employ lots of sass in their communication style, but there are the ones who still make it fun and witty and others who completely overdo it and end up much more annoying than funny.
I think the best example of likable sass is Dustin. He is obviously super intelligent, and uses lots of irony, but doesn't let it be his whole personality.
Next up is Max, she can be annoying but it works pretty good overall with her tomboyish, cool girl vibe.
The bottom of the list in my opinion is the Sinclairs. Erica has some funny moments (especially spelling America without Erica), but the way she just shoots cynism at every opportunity can be very draining. Lucas on the other hand is not even funny like Erica is sometimes, he just usually comes across as extremely bitter, cynical and cold. It does improve a little bit over the show (he is insufferable in the first 2 seasons), but overall I think he kinda lacks humor that would compensate the sass.
Mike is a wild card, I don't know if it fits into the category of sass, but the way he screams at his mother all the time (I'M COMIIIIING) is always hilarious lol

2024.05.22 02:41 HiJ4cker21yt_ Need horror book suggestions (Read more below)

So, I’ve never been a huge reader but I like to pride myself on being pretty well rounded when it comes to all types of media. I’m pretty well versed in all kinds of music, movies, shows, & video games but never books. 2022 was the first time I read a novel from start to finish which is kinda funny because I’ve always been really solid when it comes to spelling, grammar, punctuation, reading, writing etc. Then I fell off of reading books again so now this local author that wrote a book called “The Cascade Killer” is the only novel I’ve finished. Before that, the only books I finished were when I was younger and they were more along the lines of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, “Big Nate” and “Captain Underpants”😂😂
Anyway, now onto the point. I’m pretty into horror and I’ve curated a list of Stephen King books since I like that type of stuff. In fact, I’m currently reading “Pet Sematary” but I don’t wanna only read Stephen King. Are there any horror books by other authors that you’d recommend?

2024.05.22 02:25 SlyFox7470 Considerations on Decks to Play for a CEDH Tournament

2024.05.22 02:10 IJustGotHereWTF Building a cleric character?

I’m getting into D&D so I figured I’d try making a character. I feel like I made it harder than I needed to for my first time, but whatever.
So, this guy is a lv. 1 tiefling cleric with a background in archaeology. That’s fine (I think), but I started getting kind of confused when I got to picking a domain.
I thought it would make sense for him to be in the knowledge domain on account of the archaeology. The websites I found say that you can speak two extra languages. Then you can pick two added proficiencies (from a list), and that proficiency bonus is doubled for ability checks on either of those skills.
That sounds like a lot to me. I mean, its probably just a lot because D&D is a lot, but I don’t want to accidentally give this guy more than I should.
Also, one of the first level spells for the knowledge domain seems to be Command. Isn’t that a spell that clerics can already perform? How is it different when it’s from the domain spells?
I would appreciate answers and corrections.

2024.05.22 01:52 michelangelo1601 [Online][5e][GMT+3][LGBTQIA+friendly] DM looking for 5-6 players for adventures in Eberron!

Disclaimer: I am reposting this so more people get a chance to see the post! If you applied to the previous post, no need to apply again! :)
Hello there! This will be a long post but I do encourage you to read all of it so you have an idea what kinda game you are applying for. This would be a long-term campaign, so be willing to commit to the game! Have fun reading!
Game details:
We play using both Discord for voice and video and Foundry VTT for maps and character sheets! Webcams are mandatory since we all have been using them and it helps a lot with roleplaying when you can see the other people! Make sure that your PC or laptop is capable of running Foundry, here is a link to the Foundry system requirements: https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/
Do note that you don't need to buy or download anything! How Foundry works is that I send you a link and you'll join through there so no need to worry about that!
We are here to make the story together so while there is a main plot for you to follow, there will be distractions along the way and of course, things that relate to your characters and what they might find interesting!
During session 0 we will go over the initial plot hooks, how your characters might know each other, safety rules, and so on!
The available days are listed in the questionnaire. The start time for the session regardless of the day would be at 9 pm GMT+3 and when a day has been chosen, we would play consistently on that day every week!
RP to combat ratio:
I would say 50-50 since you as players can with your decisions affect how much combat or roleplay there is going to be but I as a GM, am geared more towards weighting narrative but that doesn't mean that there wouldn't be some cool combat set-pieces ;).
There might be moments in the game where we focus more on the social aspect of the game, interacting in character with the world around them and then there might be some more action-oriented sessions where you get to sit at the edge of your seat!
I will say that how I like to run games, I like to focus on characters and what their motives, goals, and flaws are. This would be a more character-driven game so be ready for that and don't be afraid to get into character and have fun while doing so!
How to apply:
All that I require from you is that you read the whole post and then fill out the questionnaire to the best of your ability. I pour a lot of time into making sure that the sessions are good and that everyone is having fun and you can contribute to that by being genuinely interested in the game!
Here is the questionnaire: https://forms.gle/TAnUSBRAoEpKe1Ra8
Basic rules of the campaign:
The most important rule is to: HAVE FUN! We are here to play a game and make a story together and everyone's comfort is important to me! If you have doubts or if something feels off, you can always come to talk with me!
Game Rules:
The reason for Banned spells is that I like to make mysteries and that players need to think. For example, Remove curse would make a situation where you can get cursed not that tense. I like to make curses into plotlines so thus banning the spell gives us that opportunity.
Here are the banned spells:
Banned subclasses:
Races from Eberron, PHB, and MPMM are available minus Tortle, Fairy, and Centaur. Also, flying races are not allowed
Here is a little bit of info about me!
My name is Michael, 22 years old. I have been a GM for 3.5 years now! I have enough experience so I won't fumble around but obviously, I don't know everything.
Something about myself is that I have been a huge fan of TTRPGs ever since I started 3.5 years ago. In that period, I have had the pleasure to play multiple systems such as 5e, pathfinder 2e, Call of Cthulhu, cyberpunk RED/2020, mothership, City of Mist, etc. So I have quite a lot of experience and I know the ropes! I also like to draw, write stories, do worldbuilding, play video games, and watch movies and anime.
I am a huge fan of One Piece, it was also an inspiration for this setting so if you are a fan, you'll notice some subtle references here and there!
I do enjoy Eberron as a setting and have read quite a bit on it! Still, while it's an established setting with its lore, that means that there will be things that I might be unaware of or I might change things here and there. I like to stick to the established lore since it's quite expansive and really good but expect changes at some points!
Final words
Thanks for reading this long-ass post and I do hope that you can see that I am putting my all into this! I hope you do too so feel free to fill out the application! Take it slowly and don't rush it since I am using it to gauge how interested you all are to join in! I will keep the post up for a few days and conduct interviews before Sunday. If you have questions, feel free to comment and I'll answer when I have time!
I hope all of you have a nice day/evening and I hope to talk to you later!

2024.05.22 01:50 thisplaceisdeath976 Overwhelmed. Want to cry.

I work a job that can be high stress and boy am I feeling it right now. I have woken up every morning feeling like I want to cry just thinking about having to go to work. Then I get there and look at the long ass list of shit I have to do and I want to cry again. I just feel on the verge of tears all the time lately. I’ve been crying more than usual too. Maybe I’m in a depressive episode. I don’t know.
Help. I hate when I have spells of excessive weepiness.

2024.05.22 01:49 Count_de_LaFey How do you identify inventory items in Ultima 7?

Just started replaying Ultima 7 via Exult, but I cannot see how you identify magic items - they just appear as "Boots" or "Ring" when you click on them.
Is there a spell (I read the spell list and found no Identify or similar...)?

2024.05.22 01:32 SkyKnight43 Not Bad Cleric x/Paladin 2

The combination of Cleric and Paladin is generally considered to be bad, but here I present a build that is not bad. For race, we choose Half-Elf.

Stats

Using point buy, with the rules from the Player's Handbook, we get:
If you're using the Customizing your Origin rules in Tasha's, you can raise DEX to 10 and lower CHA to 13. CHA isn't really important for this build—it's just required for multiclassing in Paladin.
The important thing is to use the variant Half-Elf from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide for High-Elf heritage, to get booming blade.

Paladin 2

The point of Paladin here is Divine Smite. That will give us powerful attacks when we want them—otherwise we will have decent attacks with booming blade. We also get value from Lay on Hands, especially with its ability to cure poison and disease. For the fighting style, I recommend Defense.
Starting with Paladin gets you 1 more hit point than you would get starting with Cleric, and it gets you heavy armor. If you're going with a Cleric subclass that gets heavy armor, you can delay your Paladin levels. But anyway you will eventually be a frontline monster with spirit guardians, and Divine Smite against tough enemies.

Cleric

For domain, we'll choose Trickery. It brings good synergy with Divine Strike, and it also benefits from the Paladin armor and weapon proficiencies. But any domain can work.
Incidentally, if you want a race that doesn't get booming blade, you can choose Arcana, and get the cantrip as a Cleric spell, which means it benefits from Potent Spellcasting. So there really are a lot of ways you can go with this build.
But back to the domain at hand. You add strong support to allied stealth rolls, with Blessing of the Trickster and pass without trace. You get further sneaky value from charm person and disguise self. You solve a lot of problems with dimension door. And you probably don't need to prepare healing spells, with Lay on Hands and polymorph. It's still good to have something like aid, though, for emergencies. Overall, the Trickery spell list is awesome, and allows you flexibility in your choices from the Cleric list, according to your needs.
The Trickery features are ribbons, but they allow fun shenanigans, so just take them for what they are and don't get worked up about it. Ultimately the important thing is to cast spirit guardians and bust heads, with booming blade and possibly spiritual weapon. Your acquisition of spirit guardians is delayed by 2 levels, but your spell slot progression is only delayed by 1 level, and in exchange you get Divine Smite, for boss destruction. The other thing about Trickery is that mirror image presents a very good means of surviving tough matchups, while you're out there on the front lines, toe-to-toe with the enemy, trying to maintain concentration.
For ASIs, I recommend War Caster at Cleric 4, for concentration maximization, and Resilient: CON at Cleric 8, again for concentration purposes. Concentration is the whole game, when you're running spirit guardians.

2024.05.22 01:25 Theaitetos Precious Metals + Needle Darts

I know there were some threads about Needle Darts before, but none ever discussed the effect of precious metals, so I thought I'd ask.
Needle Darts (cantrip, all lists) says:
You shape three needles out of a piece of metal in your possession and send them flying in a tight group toward one target. Make a spell attack roll against your target's AC. The needles deal 3d4 piercing damage and might cause bleeding. The needles impart any special properties of the metal that forms them; for instance, cold iron needles deal additional damage to creatures with weakness to cold iron. All the needles are made of the same metal, and the metal returns to you after the attack.
And while the spell gives cold iron as an example, cold iron itself does not actually have the additional effect given in the description (& neither do cold iron shields or cold iron armor). It's only cold iron weapons that do have that effect.
That leads me to believe that the spell is meant to use the effects from the precious metal weapons description, not the effects of the precious metal itself, e.g. applying weakness & ignoring resistance from silver weapons.
Shouldn't this also work with metals like Abysium, Djezet, Inubrix, Noqual, and Siccatite?
Abysium weapons have one fewer property rune slot, but they deal 1d4 poison damage on a successful Strike, and on a critical hit, the target is sickened 1, or sickened 2 with high-grade abysium.
Critical hits made with a djezet weapon against a prepared or spontaneous spellcaster cause the target to lose one prepared spell or one spontaneous spell slot unless the target succeeds at a Will save (DC 30 for standard-grade or DC 40 for high-grade). The spell is randomly selected from among the caster's highest three spell levels (and then from among the spells prepared in that level, for a prepared spellcaster).
A weapon crafted from inubrix reduces the weapon's damage die by 1 size. However, they ignore the resistance to damage from metal armor's armor specialization effects and the circumstance bonus to AC from metal shields. Strikes with inubrix weapons don't trigger the Shield Block reaction from a metal shield. Weapons that normally deal 1d4 damage can't be crafted from inubrix.
Noqual weapons are inimical to summoned creatures and spell effects that can be damaged by conventional attacks. Against such targets, a Strike with a noqual weapon gains a circumstance bonus to damage equal to twice the number of weapon damage dice. In addition, noqual weapons disrupt spellcasters' concentration, causing them to become stupefied 1 for 1 round on a critical hit.
Siccatite weapons automatically gain either a flaming or frost property rune, for hot and cold siccatite respectively, even if they aren't otherwise enchanted; this rune can't be removed, and it deals 1d8 damage instead of 1d6 damage. This uses one of the weapon's property rune slots as normal. High-grade siccatite gains a greater flaming (hot siccatite) or greater frost (cold siccatite) property instead.
Most of these effects would be fairly weak, as spellcasters don't crit that often vs AC anyway. And I'm not sure if it works with Inubrix: it says you can't craft d4 weapons from Inubrix, but maybe it's possible to magically form needles with it?
However, Noqual vs summoned creatures (+2 +spell-rank damage) and hot/cold Siccatite (+1d8 damage; high-grade: ignore fire/cold resistance) both seem fairly good options for Needle Darts. Does this work?
p.s.: Can you use Warpglass with Needle Darts?

2024.05.22 01:11 Theadination I have some confusion about how spells for monsters work

Monsters have abilities that they can do, and how many times they can do their melee attacks is listed in multiattack, but some have spells, so when on a monster's turn do they get to cast their spells? I see they have listed in traits a spell casting ability

RANT WARNING
Now I’ve run both lists a decent amount, and have actually seen a lot of success from List 2, but what baffles me is how high legend players are getting a winrate higher than 50% on list 1.
List 2 has ramp (2 drop), decent tempo (nestmatron), and a clean anti-aggro tool (Fye). You have a lot of ways to win the game, like hitting owl or eonar with dorian, hitting nestmatron or cover artist with dorian, and even just winning with the traditional spell damage wincon, which there is a sufficient amount of. It all fits together decently nicely for a standard format combo deck. The location plus phials alone can steal games from painlock, but aside from that it does suffer from tall boards. Against any slower deck though it feels quite strong.
Now onto List 1. I cannot make this shit ass list work for the life of me. It feels insanely high rolly. If you dont get dorian/oaken into a discover on curve or earlier you insta lose. The deck doesn’t have any resources to deal with any kind of board pressure, and even if you get lucky enough to face a slower deck, if you whiff on dorian/oak/discover or you draw owl/eonar before getting to dorian, you are unequivocally cooked. The late game strategy is so god awfully weak, and all for a small chance to go off on turn 7 or colifero off eonar for a board of owls once every 40 games? I feel like Im being baited by deck sharing sites. Like “here have this deck that will lower your wr by 40%”. There is no way people are climbing in high legend with this. I’ve seen two high legend players post this deck, and it this point I’m thinking they are in on some sick joke. This might be a worse combo deck than obelisk warlock. Idek what to say. If anyone could explain how it’s supposed to work beyond funny hehe highroll every 1/5 games or have replays of you winning with it vs actual decks and players after whiffing the highroll, I would really appreciate it. I just need to know that Im not insane and this deck isn’t bait. Id honestly rather it be a skill issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This last weekend I made Top 8 at a RCQ and was a mere top deck away from qualifying utilizing this Rakdos Lutri list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/qXG7kZbVlEuNunJTTUigww
The premise is simple; play good Rakdos cards and just happen to have 3/2 otter that copy a removal spell sometimes.
While not consistent in the form of playsets, the deck does still play the consistent game plan of playing on curve while doing the Rakdos things.
Notably, my only losses in the Swiss were to Rakdos Midrange and Rakdos Vampires, with my run ending to Waste Not
I’ve been pretty out of touch with pioneer up until this last weekend and had this deck thrown together, so I hope with this post to gain insight on better card inclusions, especially with the sideboard.

Cursed Knowledge Archive?
Is there a list or record or Thor / Chat's cursed knowledge drops? Like you can't spell homeowner without meow, Beef jerky is cow raisins, and etc?

2024.05.21 23:31 RecentConcept4614 Desperate for suggestions!

Hi all
Please help 😂
I’m very close to giving birth to my second daughter and we have absolutely no idea what to call her.
We found it really difficult to name her sister, actually took us 3 days post birth to decide and we went with Bridget with we absolutely love and completely suits her.
Names we have on the list for number 2:
Harriet (Hattie for short) Niamh Nancy April
Names I like but spelling and local pronunciation hold us back: Aoife Siobhan Sinead
The general theme is a strong name that will suit a grown woman, not too hard to spell and semi traditional/not too common.
Names we dislike: Eva/ava Isla Scarlet Yasmin Chloe Beth
Thank you so much in advance 🤞🏻
