A while ago, I posted an issue regarding my Oppo Supervooc adapter that's supposedly 100w but isn't in practice. Weird that my phone still detects it as Supervooc 100w though (the blue circle that shows at the start of charging). I did a bit more digging and the Oppo adapter's model code is VCB8JAEH. I googled the exact model code and found a bunch of listings for 80w supervooc adapters, but the one I have shows 100w, and output of 11v=9.1A. Maybe it actually is fake, but honestly it doesn't seem fake so I honestly don't know anymore, maybe I'm just too naive, but whatever.
Now I'm curious about what the original adapter's model codes are and those that work with oneplus 12. I'm still on the lookout for a working adapter so can you guys share yours for reference?
My original one is VCBAHBCH but it's from the chinese version. Are the other regions different?

I like to reread harry potter, but sometimes I just like the parts where Severus is mentioned. I would love to know if there is a list of all the pages he is mentioned in. Bonus points if it has the actual writing/quotes and I dont have to dig out my books from my bookshelf lol

IDK WHAT TO SAY HONESTLY every time i mention im autistic or its brought up in conversation she keeps saying “you’re not, the doctor just said you show symptoms” like lady that same doctor sent me home a letter that literally reads “a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder has been confirmed”
Also she keeps saying “the doctor says you were just borderline autistic” (im quite sure she did not because genuinely what??)
she also doesn’t want to tell my family because of my close cousins would look at me differently and one of my aunts works with “severely” autistic children and would also look down on me (I’d like to hope she wouldn’t if she works with autistic kids??) She also keeps trying to tell me about how this was my decision when literally all I wanted to do when I got my diagnosis was talk mad shit about my past teachers that completely ignored so many of my autistic traits and the mad waiting list times
And if she ever admits that yes I am autistic she pulls the “but it’s only level one though so it’s very very little autism and doesn’t affect you” like im pretty sure a disability is going to alter my life in some shape or form and those levels are supposed to describe different support needs of autism and not one general diagnosis (correct me if I’m wrong of course)
Also throughout my 2 years of waiting for an assessment EVERY time it was mentioned I got hit with the “are you sure you want to ruin your life like that with a diagnosis?” Like the only people that are gonna know are me and my gp, my employers are not gonna go digging through my assessment looking for reasons not to hire me

Good evening nerds, after perusing last week’s thread about synergies with Jace Reawakened, I wanted to try to start a more in-depth discussion of the archetype that I think might best leverage his abilities: Blue Moon. While the most obvious place for Jace is slotting into the Mystmin-style Dimir Lurrus control shell (and that’s probably just stronger overall regardless of synergy), I think there are some clear benefits to going in another direction, namely: 3MV sorcery-speed value spells to leverage the plot ability, more situational spells to leverage the loot ability, and snap/bolt to leverage the ult.
Before we get too far in, I should note that I don’t have a meaningful match history to show off here. Results have been mediocre as I’ve tweaked toward this current iteration, and I haven’t tested exhaustively enough to thoroughly map out all the matchups. With that being said, it’s a fairly fun deck to play, and I think it might have enough general quality to be somewhat competitive with a refined list and play. With the disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into the deck:
Jace + plot targets:

• 2-3x [[Jace Reawakened]] - this is the real development in tech for this deck, and it synergizes very well with the rest of the cards that you already want to be playing
• 2-3x [[Blood Moon]] - The namesake of the deck. Fairly strong against domain, which seems decently represented in the meta. Plotting this on turn 4 is pretty late to fully cripple your opponent, but restricting them to one spell per turn is still useful when holding up interaction.
• 3-4x [[Fae of Wishes]] - Obviously a spicy inclusion, but it’s just such a juicy plot target it’s hard to pass up. Also a good blocker in a pinch, and it turns on Flame of Anor. More discussion on wishboard options to follow.
• 2-3x [[Fable of the Mirror-Breaker]] - Fable is everything you want in a generic plot target: great value for cost, not reliant on instant speed (unlike Archmage’s Charm), excellent with snapcaster, treasures can occasionally let you Blood Moon on otherwise sketchy lands
• 2-4x [[Flame of Anor]] - similar to Fable, this hits the spot as a plot target: plays well at instant speed but isn’t reliant on it, gives you great value to recover from a slow start, and synergizes with both of your creatures

Interaction:

• 4x [[Lightning Bolt]] - Generically great removal, and can occasionally close out the game with a Jace ult. Would prefer to run more if possible
• 4x [[Mana Drain]] - No question, best counter in the format. Your plot targets (and Lorien) tend to make great mana sinks for this as well.
• 2-4x [[Spell Pierce]] - Obviously seeing quite a bit of play in such a fast format. Your favorite card against SnT, Natural Order, Minsc, and the like.
• 2-3x [[Stifle]] - Another spicy inclusion. This spell probably isn’t good enough for the format in general, however it does play uniquely well with Blood Moon. First of all, it supports attacking your opponent’s mana base, and stone-raining an early fetch can make an otherwise middling Blood Moon excellent. Once Blood Moon is on the battlefield, Stifle helps defend it against outs like Boseiju, Otawara, or Leyline Binding.
• 1-2 [[Stern Scolding]] - Bowmasters bad, ergo scolding good. Also incidentally hits many non-bowmasters.

Other:

• 2-4x [[Snapcaster Mage]] - Fairly slow card for such a fast format, but that is somewhat mitigated by biasing toward 1MV interaction. Works great with Fable and Flame of Anor.
• 3-4x [[Brainstorm]] - On the upside, find what you need when you need it. On the downside… bowmasters. Probably worthwhile, but I could see trimming here depending on the meta.
• 2-3x [[Lorien Revealed]] - Like a tapped fetch, but more resilient to Blood Moon and synergizes well with snap and mana drain
• ~20 lands - Fairly standard mix of fetches & island duals, heavy on islands to support the Blood Moon. Probably worth running an [[Otawara]] and a [[Mystic Sanctuary]], possibly worth mixing in an additional sanctuary and/or [[Hall of the Storm Giants]] depending on how much you want to tempt fate.

Sideboard:

• Tier 1 wish targets - [[Roiling Vortex]], [[Pithing Needle]], [[Surgical Extraction]], [[Unlicensed Hearse]] - nothing too surprising here
• Tier 2 wish targets - [[Test of Talents]], [[Gaea’s Blessing]], [[Tormod’s Crypt]], [[Brotherhood’s End]], additional Blood Moon - additional support for common scenarios, or options for rarer scenarios. Note that you can put Blessing into your deck with Brainstorm when needed
• Generic advantage cards - this is where the wishboard has felt fairly disappointing to be honest. You really want something disgusting like a Valki to close things out, but I’m just not seeing it. I think [[Narset, Parter of Veils]] may be the best option to push a game from even to ahead, but it’s a bit situational and lackluster. [[Search for Azcanta]] is another cheap option, but very slow. [[Chandra, Torch of Defiance]] is a classic for this slot, but it seems to play poorly with the blue pips and instant speeds among the rest of the deck. It could also be that an additional fable is the best option.
• Normal sideboard cards - [[Molten Impact]] and [[Aether Gust]] as general interaction, probably some additional copies of wish targets for depending on the metagame

Other cards under consideration:

• Other generic control spells - Archmage’s Charm is fairly bad while plotted and very risky with Blood Moon. Counterspell might be good enough as hard counter #5. Expressive Iteration is great value, but I’m not sure it outcompetes the other value cards already included. Dig Through Time might be worthwhile as a 1-of.
• Delirium package - most blue moon decks I’ve seen have been running this, but I feel like it may just take up too much room for what you get. You don’t get the most out of DRC like a more graveyard-focused or aggressive deck would, bauble is a no-go with vortex (and you don’t have a Lurrus to recur it), and heat can largely be replaced by flame of anor.
• [[Tishana’s Tidebinder]] - This is probably the best fit that I don’t already have locked for the main deck. It’s a wizard, it supports the stifle/moon plan, and it’s great with a fable that sticks. The biggest downside is that it’s expensive, and it doesn’t interact particularly well with Jace, but it might be good enough regardless.
• [[Vendilion Clique]] - Another flash threat option similar to Tidebinder. V clique is also a wizard, it plots better than tidebinder does, and it’s fantastic with Narset if you can get there, but on the downside it doesn’t work with fable.
• [[Fury]] - coming soon, this seems like it will slot in very nicely. Helps keep the board free of bowmasters, and it works rather nicely with fable, either early game as pitch fodder or late game with reflection.
• [[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer]] - a classic rage inducer when paired with a turn 2 Blood Moon, but honestly doesn’t seem to have a great place in the meta. Decent against SnT, but it seems like every other meta deck has T1 removal, blockers, or both. You also don’t really have enough other must-remove threats to make it backbreaking in the lategame, nor play few enough creatures to expect zero removal in post-sideboard games.
• 3rd color splash - Jund can get away with it with Jegantha, both as limitation on pip requirements and as a safety valve when color screwed. Jund this ain’t, with several 2x blue pip spells and only fable treasures to bail you out. With that being said, there are some interesting options if you’re feeling bold.
  • In Temur, you have great midrange cards like Jarsyl (incidentally a wizard) and Oko (wishable). You also have Veil as interaction, and several options to shore up your enchantment removal. Going more exotic, reclamation exists, and [[bramble familiar]] gets a steep discount with Jace.
  • Jeskai also has some potential. [[Deputy of Detention]] and [[Reflector Mage]] are both wizards as well as excellent reflection targets. T3f is a solid wish option, and you have veto/swords/fragment if you want additional interaction options.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I’d love to hear about any experiences y’all have had with blue moon in the current timeless meta, as well as any suggestions for adjustments to the deck.

There have been an increasing number of juniors visiting this sub asking for advice about writing essays. Below are some tips and advice for making your essay stand out as excellent. Feel free to ask questions because I will answer every single question in the comments.
I know from experience that many of you are struggling to identify a good topic for your essay. Conventional wisdom says to start by brainstorming a list of potential topics, and chances are, you have already started a mental list of ideas. You might think you only have a few choices for topics, based on your activities or experiences, or essay examples you read, or the rough draft you already started (or worse, that GPT started...). I advise, however, that you put down your list of topics and back away from it. Forget that exists for a moment. Seriously - thinking about this initial list tethers you to certain ideas that might not actually be your best options.
Now you can begin brainstorming with a clean slate.
Start with thinking about what you want to show in your entire application, not just one essay. Every single component in your app has one purpose – to tell more about YOU. Filling out the rest of the application by rote and focusing solely on the essay is short-sighted and will leave so much potential untapped in your application.

It's About You. Tell Your Story - And Be The Protagonist

An admissions officer’s goal is to understand you fully, in the context of your background and the rest of the applicant pool. They will begin this with assessing your academic abilities and potential. Then they will evaluate how you will fit into the student body they’re trying to curate. All of this can be somewhat broad and diverse and touch on several institutional goals. But they will dig deep to find out what each applicant is like, what your core values and motivations are, what kind of student you will be, how you will contribute to the vibrant and intellectual campus community they’re building, etc.
Your goal with essay brainstorming is to ascertain how to powerfully tell your story in a manner that will fit these criteria. The entirety of your application (again, not just one essay) aims to showcase your abilities, qualifications, and uncommon attributes as a person in a positive way. Before you begin outlining or writing your application, you must determine what is unique about you that will stand out to an admissions panel. All students are truly unique. Not one other student has the same combination of life experiences, personality, passions, or goals as you do. Your job in your application is to frame your unique personal attributes in a positive and compelling way. How will you fit on campus? What personal qualities, strengths, core values, talents, or different perspectives do you bring to the table? What stories, deeper motivations/beliefs, or formative experiences can you use to illustrate all of this?
It is always helpful to start with some soul-searching or self-examination. You might not immediately know what you want to share about yourself. It’s not a simple task to decide how to summarize your whole life and being in a powerful and eloquent way on your application. Introspection prior to starting your application takes additional time and effort rather than jumping straight into your first draft. But it is also a valuable method to start writing a winning application that stands out from the stack.
You'll see the advice everywhere that all essay prompts are really about the same thing - you. The goal of each essay then is to showcase who you are, what matters to you, and how you think. I guarantee if you're on this sub enough, you'll hear the advice to "show, don't tell" when writing about yourself. But what does this mean really, and how do you do it well? How do you even get started on an essay that does this?

Introspection Questions

It’s often easiest to start thinking in terms of superlatives, especially those related to personal insights -- what are the most meaningful things about you, and what do you value the most? Here is a list of questions to help you brainstorm broadly before you narrow down your focus for writing:

• What are your interests?
  
• What sparks your curiosity?
  
• About what topics do you enjoy reading?
  
• With whom do you enjoy spending time? Who has impacted your life the most?
  
• Reflect upon “superlatives” in your life. What moments were most memorable, formative, enlightening, enjoyable, or valuable? What physical possessions, experiences, dreams, or lessons could make your superlatives list?
  
• Stop and think about what things, people, or circumstances in your life are really unique, fascinating, or outlandish. Are there any that really have a lot of "cultural flavor" (whatever your culture is)?

Find Your Story And Arc

Think of a small anecdote or story from your life that you could share that serves as a microcosm of who you are and what is important to you. It will massively help you narrow this down and find a gem of a story if you first start by thinking about your application arc or theme. This is the one-phrase summary of your entire application. It could be "brilliant entrepreneur who started her own successful business" or "talented athlete who wants to study economics and finance as they pertain to sports", or even "avid baker whose hobby sparked an interest in chemistry". It doesn't have to be related to your intended major, but it can help your arc be stronger and clearer if it is.
Once you have an arc determined and a story to share, think about what you want that story to say about you. This is where it can help to think of this as something you would share on a date - what impression does it make about you to the reader? Once you know this, start showing, not telling this attribute of yourself through your story. For example, instead of saying that you're compassionate toward others, you show an example of a time you were compassionate, then elaborate on why, and what it means to you.

Essay Brainstorming Techniques

If you are having trouble finding a story, or simply have writer’s block once you have picked your topic, here are some ideas to get your juices flowing:

• Stream of consciousness writing -- Start writing whatever is in your head, and don’t stop for 30 minutes. You probably won’t use what you just wrote for your essay, but it will help you find a starting point.
  
• Journaling -- Answer the prompt as if you were writing in a journal. This will get you in the habit of writing about yourself and establish comfort with the concept. It will also take you to a new level of introspection and self-awareness.
  
• Twitter X style -- Write several rapid-fire responses to the prompt in 280 characters or less. Choose an idea from these responses to expound upon in your essay.
  
• Read each essay prompt, then go through your introspection worksheet responses and connect the stories and insights to one or more of the prompts. Some students like using color coding to visually see how their different ideas might work together.
  

Why Essays Matter

Here's the thing a lot of people don't realize about college admission: it's not an award for being the smartest, most accomplished, or most impressive. It's an invitation to join a community. Far too many students think that if they can just show that they're smart enough, they'll get in. Yale even says right on their admissions website that 75% of their applicants are academically qualified to succeed at Yale. But only ~4% are getting in. That should tell you that they're looking for more than just top tier test scores and grades. To be perfectly clear, you will need top tier grades and (optionally) test scores to show that you're qualified, and the vast majority of my students come to me with this part already in the bank. But what sets the admits apart? It's personal insight - sharing who you are, how you think, what matters to you, and how you engage community. You can't just say "/IAmVerySmart, please admit me," or even "I did a cool thing guys! Isn't that neat!" You need to go deeper and show them your core values, personal strengths, motivations, aspirations, character traits, foundational beliefs, personality, etc. And you need to do it in a charming, winsome way that makes them like you and want to invite you to join their community.
So how do I get students to do this? All of my students complete that introspection worksheet. We go through it and find the stories, examples, anecdotes, conversations, memories, relationships, and other things from their life that will help us craft a strong and personally insightful narrative. We also make lists of the values, strengths, and key personal qualities we want to showcase. Once we have some topics, outlines, abstracts, or rough drafts, we talk about which stories to tell where, how to tell them well, and what details to include to present the best they have to offer. Then we refine, edit, polish, and enhance over and over until the story sings, but more importantly shows their heart and soul. We also go through all the other application components to ensure consistency, quality, and distinctiveness.
Here's why this works so well: at most highly selective colleges there is a primary reader (or 2-3) who will review everything first and then present it to the admissions committee, who then votes on whether to admit you. That presentation typically goes one of three ways:

1. Total enthusiasm, energy, and excitement. They strongly advocate for admission and paint a clear picture of how you will contribute to their goals and community. Everyone in the room picks up on that energy and is leaning forward in their chairs, looking for reasons to admit you. This is quite rare, generally less than 5 out of every 100 applications, even among those which are "fully qualified." When you do this right, you show depth, meaning, and valuable personal insights so the reviewer is learning about who you are and how you might engage the community they're curating. You come alive off the page as a person, not just another file.
   
2. Business as usual. You're another great applicant in a pile of great applicants. They share a basic review of the facts, your profile, stats, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Maybe someone on the committee finds something they love, and they really push for admission. More likely, not and you get deferred/waitlisted even though there wasn't anything "wrong" with your application. They just didn't love you enough to commit.
   
3. "Here's a stack of 20 applications that I didn't find all that compelling, so we won't present them individually, but you guys are the committee and you make the decisions. So let me know if there are any you want to talk about." In this case, unless there's a letter of endorsement from an athletics coach or your last name matches several buildings on campus, you're probably not getting additional consideration, much less admission. They will regret to inform you.
   

Everything we're doing is designed to help them get to know themselves, present the best they have to offer, and land in that first group. Having top tier essays is the single best way to get there. Get started on brainstorming in the next few weeks so you'll have time to get a few essays completed over the summer.

This beef has, for me and I believe many of us, made me want to listen to Kendrick's previous works with the context of what we know post-Aubrey-cide. If you haven't yet, I'd definitely recommend going back to songs like DNA., ELEMENT., The Heart Part IV, N95, Rich Spirit... The list goes on, and I'm having a lot of fun discovering new layers of songs I've known well for years. The consistency of Kenny's artistry and values have really held up over time.
I did want to come back to the song "For Free??" though, because I feel like the Lucien reading for the character "Lucy" could have some more credibility now, and may even help us understand some of the things going on in the aftermath of Kendrick's four tracks.
Now obviously, in "For Free??", Lucy is Satan/Lucifer and serves to continue the characterization of the temptations of fame and wealth coming for Kendrick (or the character, whatever) throughout his journey through the rap industry. However, people have pointed out for years that "Lucy" could also be personifying Lucian Grange, the CEO of Universal Music Group.
I think when you consider the specific subject matter of Kendrick's initial parlay into the rap industry, it's a pretty good working theory, and frankly, an insanely clever way of working in some larger truths about the music industry while perfectly sticking to the themes of TPAB. But after seeing some of the preliminary fallout from this beef (which I think we can all agree goes a bit beyond music at this point), let's look at three lines in particular that stood out to me in the context of Lucien, Drake, and Kendrick:
"Lucy got million stories About these rappers that I came after when they was boring"

• This was the line that really got me thinking - the stories thing is hitting differently after the past two weeks. Considering Lucien and read in a darker way, "stories" could allude to Lucien/UMG using illicit temptations to their stars to get "stories" of them, thereby allowing them to more easily extort them and control their behavioreleases. Why DOES Drake drop underwhelming projects every year??

"Lucy just want your trust and loyalty, avoiding me? It's not so easy, I'm at these functions accordingly"

• Kendrick has clearly tried to resist Lucien thus far "avoiding me?", but UMG's power, and perhaps some compromised artists, are at all of these functions. Probably the same "(No More) Parties in LA" that Kendrick/Kanye talk about in that song (coincidence that that is their last collaboration before the "Like That (Remix)" ?? (I know Ye getting clowned for that but him spewing shit about Lucien is kind of what made me want to dig into this in the first place))

"Lucy gon' call you even when Lucy know you love your Father"

• "love your Father" could honestly be read a bit differently here than simply God, especially considering DUCKWORTH. and some of the father-themes throughout MM&TBS. Was Kendrick less susceptible to the dark side of the music industry's temptations because of his father's influence? I think you could make a good case. Drake had Dennis lmao

Anyways, sorry for the long post, but wanted to de-compress from the PE drama by listening to TPAB and couldn't help be fascinated by this angle of interpretation. I think Kendrick has really been making allusions to some of the nastier problems in the industry for a while. Have you found any similar bits of old songs that could be re-contextualized now?

currently questioning whether or not i have it, but considering i’m constantly morally questioning myself and dismissing my opinions because i know i’m a hypocrite it feels too close to home. this is a vent post describing my current findings and realisations and id love some confirmation that it actually sounds legitimate and some reassurance.
ive also read up on real event OCD and because i was a stupid teenager i have posts i regret, and i commonly get into problematic media and mull it over in my head (rumination) before justifying it or ripping it apart (reassurance) to others i trust. i don’t have physical compulsions, aside from checking accounts, but i constantly list the things i’ve done in my head and debate to myself about it and how i’d apologise. i watch drama videos constantly and compare myself thinking i’m worse. i have to pull away when i get too into something and get too productive because i convince myself people will turn on me and dig up all my worst fears.
i check my old accounts semi often and refuse to delete them because i did so once and found it all archived. it made me so paranoid that i refused to delete accounts again going into a three day long breakdown and i instead keep tabs as well as looking at ex friends accounts to make sure they aren’t somehow slandering me or spreading anything. it makes me very clingy to people i know but also incredibly hard to trust new people. also i don’t delete accs because it makes me feel guilty and like i’m hiding something.
i am forever debating in my head about my moral standing and just see myself as somebody with no backbone. i’m so scared of being ostracised and left alone with no support system. i can’t get too popular on social media otherwise i’ll just leave out of fear and can’t get myself to talk to other people in my field, i second guess posting myself and looking at old messages to pick at what i did wrong and how i would defend myself. i have mental flashes of cancellation threads and mocking posts of my face and life. it feels like a loop of stupid interests and constant moral disagreement. it’s hell. if it helps i’m also looking into autism/adhd and have always been interested in taboo things since i was a child (extreme horror, lost media, dark/offensive comedies) and i feel that almost set me up for constant unending guilt.
i would like possibly some advice and if you want to hone in on questioning this, because i’m not currently diagnosed but am going to bring it up to my therapist, you’re welcome to. i want to talk about it because i’m only realising how intrinsic this is to my life now.

Hello! So I am not sure if this question was asked before, but I must be honest I’m pretty interested! To be precise, I’m curious if there have been any specific routes that you are surprised at how much you enjoyed?
For example, for me I went into the Razor route with the only knowledge that the Princess… really, REALLY wants to give us a hug- I mean kill us. And that’s it, that is what the route was summed up as, and honestly I was a bit wary, because I didn’t know how a Princess that just wants to kill us and nothing else could be interesting-
Then the Razor turned out to be witty, sarcastic (yet at times surprisingly sincere such as when she dropped the act to say there is no blades beneath her clothes), and though insane, surprisingly amusing and fun. What originally started as wariness turned into one of the best experiences ever, and honestly if not for Nightmare/The Moment of Clarity, I am pretty sure Razor would be #1.
(I once said this game taught me I had a type. I still do, just a tad bit different than originally thought).
Similarly I played the Wraith route as well and honestly? I really, really dig the Wraith just quitting fucking around with us and just straight up possessing us. Sure, it doesn’t hold up to the freakish nightmarish situation in the Moment of Clarity, or the potential wholesomeness in The Thorn route, but if you let her possess you…
“There is nothing wrong with fixing your mistakes, but I will NEVER forget.” (Paraphrased) I don’t know, that line goes really, really hard for me if I am honest. Although that may be Spectre route only.
All in all, for me I really thought The Wraith and Razor would be some of my least favourite routes, but they turned out to be some of my favourites! I may need to redo my Tier list soon…
Anyways, what were some of the routes you were pleasantly surprised by?

I'm looking at the ARRL Handbook and also Radio Handbook by Orr as starting off points. One of them is about half the price of the other assuming I can't find used copies at a book store.
Did some quick google searching and finding a lot of quick overview kinda stuff but not really what I'm looking for. I build a powered AM radio last year with a lot of notes from the internet, winding coils, testing amplifier circuits with different resistors and transistors, etc. Ended up with a nice little breadboard radio with almost zero selectivity (it was selective for a while but somehow I nuked that at some point and it was I think just picking up the loudest AM station available).
Anyway, that's done, now I'm thinking about a superhet with proper filtering and really trying to scratch down a little deeper beneath the surface, maybe commit some of these formulas to memory, and learn some more about the components and how they work.
Ferrite cores for example, do both of these books have a list of values for different types of core material and such? I can always measure the inductance with an LCR meter after I wind a coil on it but I know some materials are better for different frequency ranges and it'd be nice to have a handy paper reference.
A good book in my opinion would also have some datasheets for popular transistors and op-amps and other components so I don't have to look them up one at a time while I'm browsing electronics kits to buy to build out my kit a little further.
Also something really nice would be a series of projects that perhaps starts with all the theory of AM circuits and example builds, then FM same thing, and then HF and Superhet design stuff. Tells you how to pick capacitors and maybe a better understanding of how much power different types can handle, etc.
Essentially, the basic equations, some example schematics that can be followed to build some lite radios and auxilliary equipment like antenna tuners and amplifiers, datasheets and specs for components good for HF versus Microwaves or ELF. I have some interest in radio-astronomy as well and seismic sounds like it could be fun to play around with listening to the bowels of the earth though that's probably outside the scope of a general radio book.
Not buying this second, just wondering if either of the books I mentioned is kind of set up this way or if there would be a better place for me to look for a good book that covers things this way. I'm a paper person and to me paper is more persistent than digging up files on the computer and needing to be next to it while I'm soldering or digging parts out of my kit. So real books are my preference here for sure.
Or I suppose if nothing else I can just start printing datasheets and tossing them in my station log binder.

I (40 Bi) dated my ex (37 M) from 2004 to 2009. He left me for another woman he had only known for a month. Needless to say, it was a messy breakup. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I was suicidal. I had to seek professional help and be given antidepressants. When he came to his senses, he tried to win me back, but I had already moved on by then. I am now in a 14-year same-sex relationship and at a happy place in my life.
Last night, while browsing Facebook, I came across a name on my list of suggested friends that caught my attention. It was “Jzyne Addanice” with my ex’s last name. It was an account made for a baby girl, not one year of age. My ex and I no longer have connections except for one common friend on Facebook. I did a little digging and found out the account was for my ex’s daughter, as I had assumed since the baby bore a striking resemblance to him.
To be clear, given that our breakup was more than 15 years ago, I am totally over my ex. Even yet, I still hadn't moved past the fact that he abandoned me for a woman he hardly knew. However, I genuinely don't care if he ends up having three dozen kids. What upsets me is that he took “our” baby name, Jann Adanice, tweaked the spelling, and named his daughter it. We were pretty serious, and Jann Adanice (J for my name, Ad for his name) was a name I came up with for our future baby when the time came.
I don't want children anymore, and at 40, I don't have any other than my fur babies. Still, I find it offensive that he took our baby's name and gave it to the child of another woman. AITA for being upset over this?

Hey y'all. Getting straight to the point: I currently own a PC with an RX 6600 paired with a Ryzen 5 5600, 16gb ram (dual channel) and a 650w PSU.
I'm going to buy an RX 7800XT next month as an upgrade, and while I know it can start to bottleneck in some games with the Ryzen 5 5600, I can live with it until I can get a new CPU (most games I play aren't that CPU intensive anyway).
Question 1: Can I get that GPU without upgrading my PSU as well? I did some digging online and most answers are that a good 650w PSU can handle it just fine (I have one from Corsair, its the CX650F).
Question 2: When I *do* upgrade my CPU, I wanted to know if a Ryzen 7 5800X goes well with the 7800XT in terms of "not bottlenecking". Looking at a list of compatible CPUs for my motherboard (this one), it looks like the 7 5800X is the most budget friendly for me.
Question 3: Considering I don't need to upgrade my PSU for the GPU alone, is there any chance that I wouldn't either for the CPU upgrade? I know at this point I might be asking too much (lol), but I ran a test with Outer Vision's PSU calculator and it said this build would use around 522w (and I was generous with the usage time). This would also mean that I'd have over a 100 "watts to spare" for safety. I'm not super familiar with how PSUs work so forgive me if I'm just being stupid.
Question 4 (bonus, kinda): While the 7 5800X would be the most accessible for me, the very best CPU compatible with my motherboard (again, according to that list) is the Ryzen 9 5950X. I *could* wait a little longer to get it because after running a test with the PSU calculator, it looks like this CPU requires the same wattage as the 5800X. So... Should I?
Thanks in advance. My motherboard is the Aorus B550M Elite, by the way. Rest of the relevant specs were listed above. Also, feel free to give me any general recommendations about my future CPU upgrade. Like, if there's a better choice than any of thes I mentioned, I would love to know.

The countries whose citizens most perceive themselves as living in democracy are: - China - Switzerland - Singapore - Israel - Norway - Vietnam - The ROC
For those 7 countries, more than 75% of people reply 7-10 to the question "Think about your country today. How democratic do you think it is?" where 0 is "not at all democratic" and 10 is "very democratic".
Now let's look at the list of countries where less than half the people believe they live in democracy: - Japan - Pakistan - France - Nigeria - Iran - Peru - Morocco - Turkey - Ukraine - Hungary - Venezuela - Greece
Notice something? People's perception of whether they live in a democracy or not is not at all aligned with procedural democracy: whether people vote for their country's leaders or not, and whether a country has the procedural attributes of liberal democracy. In fact the majority of countries where people don't believe they're in democracy have these procedural attributes (including France, my country)! And half the countries where an immense majority of people - three fourth - believe they're in a democracy don't have them.
So what gives?
Other results of the survey give a clue. And the biggest one is that the perception of democracy is extremely correlated with the percentage of people who believe the government serves the majority as opposed to a minority. For instance China scores highest in the world on this, with almost everyone agreeing with the sentence "my government usually acts in the interests of most people in my country".
This is after all quite important for democracy: the whole point is that it's supposed to be "for the people", isn't it?
I've always had a hard time with the notion that "democracy equals voting", especially coming from France were we keep voting but nothing meaningful changes and the government clearly doesn't care much about the population when it enacts policies, instead chasing elusive ideologies or the support of a small group of elites.
I think democracy is emptied of its substance when it is reduced to its procedural vision. It's much more important that a democracy - to qualify as such - lives up to its spirit, rather than its law. Meaning that rulers need to grasp their society in its interests and in its realities, and be able to act thereupon in a way a) that delivers, b) serves the true interests of the people (as opposed to other interests) and c) where there's an emphasis put on truth and accountability.
And I think that, as we can see with this survey's results, the people aren't fooled: they understand when the spirit of democracy is broken, even when the procedure is there, and vice versa. And countries where that's the case need to reflect long and hard on this.

Why jump rope isn’t already touted as a leading running drill tool is completely beyond me. But then again…
I'm by no means an "experienced runner"—having started running in 2021 at the age of 34. So, at the time of this writing, about 3 years.
Despite this, I managed to silver-medal my age group in my first race ever.
And it was a 10k. And I was wearing barefoot-shoes.
And I had only been running before that race for about 3 months.
How the heck did I manage to pull this off?
The answer eluded me for a while. Then I remembered—ah, I’ve been jumping rope nearly every day for 2 years.
But how do those connect?
But first, why the heck would some guy start jumping rope at age 32?
About 2 years before I started running, I took up jump rope really just as a fun outdoor hobby.
Even though I was pretty inactive and a bit overweight, that’s not the reason I started skippin’.
One day, I came across some footage of boxer Lulu Hawton doing some jump rope training.
In addition to her seemingly effortless rope handling skills and rhythmic footwork, what caught my eye was a giant grin that spread across her face about 45 seconds into the video. While she was probably skipping to warm up for a match or a training session, something was abundantly clear.
She was having a blast.
And this was from a prize fighter! None of the usual boxer mean-mugging—she looked more like a kid on a carousel.
So, after buying a $10 jump rope on Amazon, I took to the driveway in my swim trunks (yes, I was so inactive, I didn’t own gym shorts).
And…whoo, did I suck.
After a few months of making puddles of sweat in my driveway as well as wheezing sounds so loud that I’m surprised the neighbors didn’t whistle EMS, I eventually got pretty decent at it.
And I lost about 45 pounds in 6 months—probably also from making some lifestyle changes merely to make jump rope less of a slog. Not the original plan, but hey, not too shabby.
After about a year, I found myself constructively critiquing other people’s beginner jump rope videos.

• “Unlock your boxer skip. Then you’ll be able to skip forever without getting tired.”
• “Here’s how to do Double-Unders, though they’re overrated.”
• “You’re skipping like it hurts. Relax and skip easy. Smile every once in a while and you’ll feel it all over.”

But how did that turn into running?
Though jumping rope is inherently enjoyable, 30-minute skipping sessions of staring at the wall without something in your headphones can be a bit drab.
One fateful day, about 2 years into being student of the jump rope, I began listening to the book Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall.
Even before I got to the end of the book, running—just like jump rope— sounded fun**.**
Yeah, I know that sounds counterintuitive—unless you’ve read the book.
“I knew aerobic exercise was a powerful antidepressant, but I hadn’t realized it could be so profoundly mood stabilizing and — I hate to use the word — meditative. If you don’t have answers to your problems after a four-hour run, you ain’t getting them.”
Ok, ok—I’ll bite.
I proceeded to dive into all of the normal “Couch to 5k” running programs I could find and took my jump rope to a nearby park with a 1k walking path—sprinkling in running between jump rope sessions.
But something wasn’t adding up.
There was a lot of advice about walk-running to build endurance until one could run a block, two blocks, a mile.
Not to brag, but I wasn’t experiencing most beginner snags.
**“Ah, I know why—**I did most of my newbie wind-sucking two years ago!”
This isn’t to say I wasn’t still periodically sucking wind but after two years of consistent boxer skips and double-unders, getting gassed felt like part of the fun and not a medical emergency.
I also felt much springier than the average beginning runner—able to run for miles all over the city in the most minimal of footwear.
And so, I tried my hand at my first race—a donut-themed 10k. And silvered in my age group.
(Ok, there was only two of us…but my time was still respectable. 😂)
Running became an amazingly freeing activity, like getting my driver’s license for my legs.
But I still didn’t understand why running was coming easier to me than the average newcomer.
Digging still deeper, I unearthed another exciting revelation—this time from multi-decade sub-3-hour Boston Marathon runner and one of the foremost running experts on the planet, Dr. Mark Cucuzzella.
“Running with a jump rope is also an amazingly simple drill for posture, balance, and rhythm.”
In other words—form. Overall technique.
Digging a little keeper and experimenting on myself, I discovered just how similar proper running technique and proper jump rope technique were.
Both require:

• An upright, chest-leading, elbows-back, joint-stacked posture
• A soft mid-foot landing directly under your pelvis
• A quick loading and unloading of “leg springs” from your tendons and ligaments to reduce “stickiness” and wasted energy
• A proper supination (roll out) followed by a quick pronation (roll in) of the feet to help launch one’s body
• A steady core without dropping hips from side to side to reduce energy “leakage”

And so many other commonalities. The list unraveled before me on every run.
And like running, without proper technique, jumping rope just doesn’t work—though the consequences are different.
For a jump roper, due to the lower impact, the risk of injury is quite minimal.
Most newbie rope slingers will report sore calves, slightly tender Achilles tendons, and the odd shin splint if they go full Rocky at it. No need to worry, though—most of these injuries see themselves out as the skipper becomes more experienced.
However, for runners, the injury story is more severe.
The next time you’re at a park with a good path, take a seat on a bench and watch the runners. See if you can spot folks reaching far out in front of them with straightened legs—smashing heels into the pavement.
This style of running results in everything from screaming knees, plantar fasciitis, lower back pain, to hips issues.
But why do all of these occur to new runners, but rarely to new jump ropers?
Most new runners commit a major physiological no-no when they begin their running journey: they treat running like fast, aggressive, airborne walking.
“Well, what is it supposed to be?”
Synchronized jumping.
Simply put, proper running is nothing more than a series of coordinated single leg jumps through space with each landing compressing the springs for the next stride.
To compare this synchronized jumping to the aggressive airborne walking of heel-led running, you can test these in just a few seconds.
Step 1: Stand up.
Step 2: Kick off your shoes.
Step 3: Jump up and down three times.
How did you land?
Probably on your mid-foot, knee bent slightly, with your weight stacked above your pelvis.
And did you use your compressed “leg springs” to launch you into the following two jumps?
Oddly enough, if you were to add a jump rope to this, you would on your way to spinning side swings like Lulu Hawton.
If you were to take this same technique one foot at a time moving forward, you would be running in a way that increases speed, preserves stamina (springs!), and drastically decreases your likelihood of injury.
Let’s try the same test with a few tweaks.
This time, jump, but land on your heels.
Your knees probably remained fairly straight and you felt the impact in your ankles, knees, hips, and possibly even your lower back.
Now, imagine attempting to jump rope this way.
It simply doesn’t work.
Not only would there be no second jump due to the lack of spring but the pain would stop you in your tracks—even in cushioned shoes.
But if jump rope technique and proper running technique are nearly identical, what are aggressive heel landings doing in running?
While a jump roper landing on their heels would resemble Frankenstein’s monster in an express lane to an orthopedist, this is how many people perform the aggressive airborne walk—aka, a heel-striking, over-striding run.
But why do we run this way? Well, our shoes let us get away with it.
Thick heel cushioning and a bit of forward momentum do a great job of masking the pain of repeated blows against every joint up the chain—for a while, anyway. Eventually, the chickens come home to roost in the form of stress fractures, meniscus tears, plantar fasciitis, “runner’s knee,” IT-band syndrome, and more.
Not to brag (and maybe to knock on some wood), I have never experienced any of these injuries in my three years of running.
Is this because I’m some kind of running genius with all of the cheat codes? Haha, I wish! It’s simply sheer luck that I started out with jumping rope before running—an activity that shares the same injury-preventing techniques.
So, are the shoes totally to blame? No.
It is possible to run with proper form in shoes with raised, cushioned heels. But it’s not as easy.
When your heel is totally cushioned, you will be able to run with a heel strike in the same way you can hit your head against a brick wall while wearing a football helmet. And in both instances, it will eventually become less about the forces outside of the foam and more about the forces inside the cushion against each other that do the most damage.
“So, how can getting a jump rope help me become a better runner?”
Jump rope is a tremendous training tool for runners for the same reason why running barefoot can also be helpful—the feedback is immediate.
Though running with inefficient and injurious form is possible, the feedback from doing so isn’t so immediate. When it comes to jumping rope, however, you won’t get through too many skips if you don’t learn to utilize the springs in your legs. The rope doesn’t pull punches.
So, get a rope and get started.
If you’re new to jump rope, I would recommend acquiring two pieces of equipment.
Firstly, find a jump rope with a little bit, but not too much, weight to it. The weight will help you feel the position of the rope during it’s entire rotation and remain in better sync with your wrist spins
My favorite rope for this purpose is a 7mm PVC model called the Hererope, which costs a whopping $15. If you find this to be too thick or heavy, a cheap 5mm PVC model will work as well.
Secondly, to protect your rope and provide a nice jumping surface, I would recommend a large foam-rubber exercise mat. My favorite is a massive 78” mat for $32—which is probably the cheapest jump rope mat you will find.
When it comes to footwear, barefoot is ideal. This will help strengthen and mobilize your feet—including your likely overly-supported neglected arches.
And just how does one begin to jump rope?

• Keep a tall posture—imagining a string pulling you up from the crown of your head.
• Your chest should open, elbows back, hands about a fist’s width from your pockets.
• Jump from the balls of your feet, only high enough to clear the rope. When landing, let the skin of your heels “kiss” the floor—touching without taking on weight.
• Keep your knees slightly bent, using every landing to load your springs for the next take-off.
• Keep the cadence quick to maximize spring recoil. To help, listen to a song that’s at about 160 beats per minute, such as the song “Hey Ya” by Outkast (or a song of similar tempo) to get a feel for the speed for skipping rope. (For running, many recommend using “Rock Lobster” by the B-52s for cadence tempo reference.)

Start with short seasons hopping with both feet—maybe 30 seconds on, 30 seconds rest. Aim for minimal muscular activation, instead, using the recoil of your tendons and ligaments for suspension and launch as much as possible.
From jumping with both feet, move onto learning an alternating leg bounce—essentially a jog skip. Right, left, right, left—all while keeping an imaginary belt level with the horizon.
By now, you’re essentially running in place with an extremely efficient technique.
Now, apply your jump rope skills to your running!
This is going to seem quite bizarre, but it is possible (and even beneficial) to take your jump rope for a run.

• Start skipping rope on a road or path with the alternating leg bounce. Remember to keep your elbows back, shoulders relaxed, head pulled up as if tugged skyward by a string from your crown and your imaginary belt level with the horizon.
• Then, as though leaning forward just enough to give someone a kiss or have an imaginary umbilical cord lightly tugged, begin to jump rope forward.
• Remember to continue to land and load on your mid-foot—aiming to keep your weight under your pelvis just like skipping rope. Landing on your heels will likely snag the rope and keep your foot on the ground too long.
• As you proceed with this, remember how it feels—the quick foot turnover, the posture, the recoil in your leg springs, the core stability, and the lightness of it.
• In the middle of doing this, simply toss the handles behind you and keep running as though it was still there—still pretending to spin the handles.
• At a comfortable stopping point, run back to your rope—now using your hands in a wood-chop motion to counter balance your leg bounces while keeping your pelvis (imaginary belt) level and stable.

And there you have it!
You may find it quite helpful to return to this drill once or twice a week. Also if you find your form slipping a bit or becoming slugging mid-run, feel free to skip imaginary rope to try to correct your technique mid-stride. It will restore lightness and springiness to your running.
I still find myself bringing my wrists to my pockets and spinning imaginary jump rope handles if I feel my technique is collapsing a bit or if my running is becoming less springy.

So this morning I learned that a lot of these animal shelters are like smaller versions of homeless shelters that claim to be "non profit" yet have a lot of people on payroll raking in the dough. Here is an example of a homeless nonprofit pulling that crap. I'd like to show you how we can expose them.
In my town there was a charity that got a $25 million dollar grant from the county.
All charities are required to make their financials publicly available. You can search the IRS site for their latest returns, some sites put them in an easier to read format like this.
Looking at the above link, we can see the top people and what they get paid, nearly $1m a year in salaries. What's interesting is the CEO. Let's look at his political donations.
In the first link to the article I posted, it talks about County supervisor Joe Simitian pitching this grant. If we look up CEO Bruce Ives, and Recipient Joe Simitian, we get a fairly comprehensive list of donations from Bruce to Joe.
This is what I'm proposing. Along with the other information that this sub collects, we need to find these feedback loops of grants to 501c's > 501c officer donations > politicians that authorized the grants.
While the above is human homeless shelter, I have a sneaking suspicion we'll find the same with "Rescues" In the very least, if a rescue is operating as a 501, we can rattle their cages a bit and demand they provide their tax returns.
So lets talk about the tools I like to use.
OpenSecrets - Database of political donations Nonprofit Light - Database of 501c3's data. Corporation Wiki - Find Connections between People and Companies - Sometimes 501c3's will funnel money out of the charity through subcontractors. Mailer service, web design, even gardeners. It never hurts to find out who the principles are at those subcontractors and check them against opensecrets.
While digging this info out for 1 or 2 towns might not garner much interest from the media, if we dug up enough of it happening around the country, it adds up.

ILLYRIA

The Ancient Greeks used the term Illyria to define a region in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula. The numerous peoples who populated those areas were known collectively as the Illyrians. The region itself is quite mountainous.

THE MIDDLE

May refer to the Midlands, the central part of England, though geographically the Prythian map places the Middle central to Prythian, not central to England; with the Prythian inclusion of Scotland, the Middle on Prythian maps is located further north than the actual Midlands of England.

UNDER THE MOUNTAIN

A potential nod to the Schiehallion, a cone-shaped mountain often referred to as the center of Scotland. It's name comes from the Gaelic Sìth Chailleann, meaning "fairy hill of the Caledonians." On the southwestern side of the mountain is said to lie the well-concealed Uamh Tom a' Mhòr-fhir, a cave serving as an entrance to the underworld.
As the Schiehallion lies in the middle of Scotland (the Night Court) and not the middle of mainland UK (Prythian), the Sciehallion could instead be representative of Ramiel.

THE WESTERN ISLES

May refer to the Outer Hebrides, also known as the Western Isles, which is an island chain off the west coast of mainland Scotland. They are also sometimes known as Innse Gall, a Gaelic term meaning "islands of the foreigners/strangers" which was originally used by mainland Highlanders when the islands were ruled by the Norse.
ACOTAR role: The Prison is located in the Western Isles.

THE PRISON

Though located in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland rather than the Outer, the Prison may be a nod to Beinn Shiantaidh, which is Scottish Gaelic for "holy mountain." It is located on the western side of the Island of Jura and is the second highest peak of the Paps of Jura.
Fun fact: Pap is of Old Norse origin and means breast.

VALLAHAN

Valhalla is the hall of slain warriors in Norse mythology, located in Asgard, where those who die in combat live in peace under the leadership of the god, Odin. They are said to dwell in Valhalla until the events of Ragnarök, where they will then march out to fight in aid of Odin against the jötnar, a type of being in Germanic mythology.
ACOTAR role: Vallahan is a faerie territory located in the northwest portion of the Continent.

The Adriatic Sea is located in Southern Europe and separates the Italian Peninsula from the Balkan Peninsula. It contains more than 1,300 islands.

ACOTAR role: Montesere is a fae territory located in the Continent's NW and is considered generally wealthy. They allied with the loyalists in the War.

Ravenna is located in Northern Italy and was the capital of the Western Roman Empire.

Rosehall is the name of a remote hamlet in the Scottish Highlands.
Fun fact: The 2nd Duke of Westminster acquired the Rosehall estate and his mistress at the time, Coco Chanel, redecorated the interior to her own liking. Winston Churchill, a close friend of the Duke, also visited the estate.
ACOTAR role: Rosehall is mentioned in ACOFAS and is theorized to be the place where Azriel's mother resides.

THE BLACK LAND

Black Land translates from Kemet, a popular ancient name for Egypt, which is derived from the color of the fertile black soil along the cultivated area of the Nile valley.
ACOTAR role: The Black Land is a region of the continent where human slaves were ruled over by a High Fae queen. Miryam and Drakon joined the mortals in the War and freed Miryam's people by crossing the desert and eventually the sea.

THE ERYTHRIAN SEA

The Erythraean Sea, originally an Ancient Greek geographical designation, has been used as a name for the Red Sea which lies between Africa and Asia.
ACOTAR role: Drakon used his magic to split the Erythian Sea.

Xi'an is the the most populous city in Northwest China snd the second most popular tourist destination in China.
ACOTAR role: Xian is a Fae territory on the Continent and allied with the Loyalists during the War. A large majority of the Dawn Court is made of Fae from Xian, including Thesan's mother. Feyre remarks that Amren may have molded her mortal body after their peoples.

BHARAT

Bhārat is one of the two principal official short names for the Republic of India.
ACOTAR role: The Archerons lost their fortune when their father's ships sank on the way to Bharat.

RASK

May refer to Rask, a city in Iran, that serves as both capital of its county and district.
ACOTAR role: Rask is a Fae territory on the Continent and allied with the Loyalists during the War.

VELARIS

Possibly derived from the Latin vēlo*,* meaning "to veil, cover, wrap" along with "to hide, conceal" and "to clothe in." Could also derive from the Latin vēlum, meaning "to veil, curtain" and also indicates a tarpaulin acting as cover for outdoor spaces.

THE WALL

No singular reference, but the presence of a wall separating one race from another, often humans from mythical beings, is rife throughout history, mythology, and fantasy.
One from each category that has loose ties to ACOTAR: (1) Hadrian's Wall, ie the Roman Wall, a defensive fortification of the Roman province of Britannia. It spanned from coast to coast, cutting across the entire width of Northern England. (2) In Norse mythology, the Master Builder asking for the hand of the goddess Freyja as payment for constructing a wall around Asgard to defend the gods. (3) The English village of Wall in Neil Gaiman's Stardust, named after the wall separating the land of Faerie from the mortal realm, highly guarded and cautioned against for mortals seeking to pass through.

THE MOONSTONE PALACE

Romans linked moonstone to the moon goddess Diana (goddess of wild animals and the hunt) and Ancient Greeks linked it to their lunar deities Artemis, Hecate, and Selene.

SIDRA RIVER

Sidra is a name of Latin origin and means "Goddess of the stars" or "like a star."

RAMIEL

Ramiel is a fallen Watcher, a type of Biblical angel, one of the 20 Watchers that rebelled against God by mating with mortal women, therefore creating the Nephilim (Shadowhunters, anyone?). Ramiel means "God has thundered." Ramiel is sometimes conflated with Remiel, also known as Jeremiel, meaning "God shall have mercy," as is listed as one of the seven Holy Angels. He is the archangel of hope and is responsible for divine visions and guiding the souls of the faithful into Heaven.

POOL OF STARLIGHT

No plausible connection found, though there is a famous pool in Greek mythology—a pool Mnemosyne presided over in Hades, counterpart to the river Lethe. Dead souls would drink from Lethe to wipe their past lives from remembrance when reincarnated. Those who drank from Mnemosyne's pool remembered and halted their transmigration of the soul.

GOLLIAN MOUNTAINS

Göll is one of the named Valkyries from Norse mythology. Her name means "tumult," or "noise, battle."
ACOTAR role: The Gollian Mountains are where the Valkyries were slain during the War.

MYRMIDONS

In Ancient Greek mythology, the Myrmidons were an Ancient Greek tribe. In the Iliad, they are the soldiers commanded by Achilles. Myrmidon has also come to mean "a follower or subordinate of a powerful person, typically one who is unscrupulous or carries out orders unquestioningly."
ACOTAR role: The Myrmidons are a set of mountains serving as the border between the Day Court and the Night Court from which the Illyrians migrated.

CESERA

No direct reference found, but may allude to Caesarea, the name of numerous cities and locations throughout the Roman Empire.
ACOTAR role: Cesera is one of three temples where the feet of the Cauldron were hidden.

SANGRAVAH

No direct reference found (and I lost my mind searching for one). Closest I came to was the similarly sounding Angharad, a feminine Welsh name, long associated with Welsh royalty, history, and myth, including Arthurian legend.
ACOTAR role: Sangravah is one of three temples where the feet of the Cauldron were hidden.

GREENFIELD VILLAGE

No direct connection found, though Greenfield is the name of several villages of England.
ACOTAR role: Greenfield village is a neighboring village to where Feyre grew up and where Isaac Hale's wife is from.

WINDHAVEN CAMP

No connection found, though a separate Windhaven also appears in Tower of Dawn in the TOG series. Altun—Windhaven being the rough translation—is located in a three-peaked mountain range and is the home of Sartaq's hearth-mother and family.
Fun fact: Windhaven is the name of a science-fiction novel by George R. R. Martin and Lisa Tuttle following a group of humans who crash-landed on a foreign planet and learned to craft their own wings out of the spaceship wreckage.

THE WOLF'S DEN

No connection found, BUT fun fact: there is a named Wolf's Den castle in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (aka Game of Thrones) that now serves as a prison. "All the days were much the same inside the Wolf's Den, and any change was usually for the worse." A Dance with Dragons, Ch 29
ACOTAR role: The Wolf's Den is the name of the worst tavern in Velaris that Nesta is known to frequent.

SILVERSPRING CREEK

No plausible connection found, BUT fun fact: "Silver Springs" is a song written by Stevie Nicks, performed by Fleetwood Mac, and is so strongly ACOTAR-coded even my non-loving playlist-to-book self can't deny it. If you want more bread crumbles that SJM is a Stevie Nicks fan, "Rhiannon" and it's lyric origins have potential ties to the Rhiannon of TOG.

STRYGA'S CASTLE

No direct reference found, but due to Stryga/the Weaver resembling a female demon akin to a vampire in Slavic mythology (see the Monster section above), it is possible Stryga's former home, before she was confined to her cottage, is reminiscent of Bram Stoker's 1897 Dracula and the Transylvanian Castle complete with three vampiric sister brides who entice men with their beauty and charm before proceeding to feed upon them.

The Night Sky

ARKTOS

Arktos, also written Arctus, means "bear" in Ancient Greek. Arktos was a centaur who fought against the Lapith spearmen. The Arktos Megale (aka Ursa Major, the Great Bear) is one of the original 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy who drew on earlier works by Greek, Egyptian, Babylonian, and Assyrian astronomers.
ACOTAR role: Arktos is one of the three regarded holy stars (the furthest left star) of the Illyrians and serves as part of the symbol for the Night Court. The echelon of Arktosian is reserved for Illyrians who survive the Blood Right but fail to reach Ramiel.

CARYNTH

May refer to Corinth, an ancient city that was one of the largest and most important of Greece, or Carinthia, the southernmost Austrian state in the Eastern Alps, noted for its mountains and lakes.
ACOTAR role: Carynth is one of the three regarded holy stars (the middle star) of the Illyrians and serves as part of the symbol for the Night Court. The echelon of Carynthian is reserved for Illyrians who scale the summit of Ramiel during the Blood Rite and are considered elite warriors.

ORISTES

Orestes (also spelled Orestes) means "stands on a mountain" and he is the subject of several Ancient Greek plays and myths concerning his madness and purification.
ACOTAR role: Orestes is one of the three regarded holy stars (the furthest right star) of the Illyrians and serves as part of the symbol for the Night Court. The echelon of Oristian is reserved for Illyrians who make it to the Ramiel during the Blood Rite but don't reach the top.

Locations not listed: A slew of various more minor locations have not been listed, including the Four Market Squares of Velaris, certain cottages and houses, and even the Ironcrest Illyrian war-camp.

THE CAULDRON

There are many magical cauldrons present in various mythologies, one being the Pair Dadeni in Welsh mythology, a magical cauldron able to resurrect the dead, and the coire ansic of Irish mythology, the cauldron of the chief god of the Tuatha Dé Danann, which never ran empty.

TRUTH-TELLER

Possibly inspired by Fragarach, an Irish mythological sword known as "The Whisperer" or "The Answerer." It was the sword of Nuada, the first high king; it was said that no one could tell a lie with Fragarach at their throat and that the sword inflicting wounds from which no one could recover.

THE HARP

May refer to the uaithne, the magical harp of the Dagda, the chief god of the Tuatha Dé Danann in Irish mythology. It could control men's emotions and change the seasons.

THE MASK

In Egyptian culture, death masks were designed to guide the spirits of those mummified into the next world.

THE UNKNOWN 4th TROVE ITEM

Seen in a vision by Nesta via Lathys, which we now know to be the Horn, and may refer to the Gjallarhorn of Norse mythology, the sound of which is said to herald the beginning of Ragnarok.

ATARAXIA

Ataraxia, in Ancient Greek philosophy, was a state of calmness untroubled by mental or emotional disquiet, ie tranquility of the mind. It was considered the ideal mental state for soldiers entering battle.

GWYDION

Gwydion is a name meaning "born of the trees" and is the given name of Gwydion fab Dôn, a magician, hero, and trickster of Welsh mythology. Caer Wydion, the castle of Gwydion, was the traditional Welsh name for the Milky Way.
ACOTAR role: The Starsword and twin to Truth-Teller.

NARBEN

No direct reference found, though narben in German means "scar."
ACOTAR role: Narben is a lost sword from the Dread Trove.

OUROBOROS MIRROR

The ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a serpent or a dragon eating its own tale, first present in ancient Egyptian iconography and the Greek magical tradition, the term itself deriving from Ancient Greek. It has been used frequently and extensively throughout fantasy literature. It often symbolizes the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

BOOK OF BREATHINGS

The Books of Breathing are a set of ancient Egyptian funerary texts that are intended to enable those deceased to continue their existence in the afterlife. It is a simplified form of the Book of the Dead.

VERITAS ORB

Veritas is of Latin origin meaning "truth." It is the name for the Roman virtue of truthfulness and in Roman mythology, Veritas is the Goddess of Truth. Universities and colleges such as Harvard use the term veritas as their motto.

SYMPHONIA

Symphonia is Greek in origin and was used to denote a variety of musical instruments.

AMARANTHA'S NECKLACE AND RING (JURIAN'S FINGER AND EYE)

Jurian's finger bone and eye, kept by Amarantha, are reminiscent of relics and reliquaries, often religious in nature. Relics typically consist of the physical remains or personal affects of a saint and the reliquary is the container that holds them.

FAEBANE

Possibly inspired by wolfsbane (aka aconite or monkshood), a poisonous flower ancient Greeks would poison arrows and bait with to hunt wolves. It is lethal and often fatal and is an oft-used plant and poison within the fantasy genre.
Fun fact: In Shakespeare's Hamlet, Hamlet himself was killed with an aconite-laced blade.

DAEMATI

Potentially a combination of the Greek word dae (to give) and the concept of mati, labeled as "the evil eye" in Greek classical antiquity. Daemati may effectively mean "to give the evil eye."

THE WEAVER'S SONG

The Weaver's song, sung when Feyre was stealing Rhysand's ring from her cottage, is similar to "The Twa Sisters," a traditional murder ballad dating back to mid 17th century England. It tells of two sisters who travel down to a body of water where the older one pushes the younger one in. A harp or a fiddle is then made out of the murdered sister's body, which plays itself and sings about her murder.
