Where is Caesar’s safe haven?
Im no geography expert, but I assume it’s in Yellowstone National Park. It’s clear that the apes left San Francisco some time between Dawn and War. We know that the military base that the apes escaped from was at the border of California and Oregon, and we know that Bad Ape came from Sierra Zoo, in Reno Nevada. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the apes were living in Northern California in the beginning of War. We see them traveling East through the deserts of Nevada, until they come across the Oasis of Yellowstone.
So what does this mean for Kingdom? Caesar’s Oasis is probably undiscovered by both the Eagle clan and Proximus, considering they lived on the coast. This opens up SO many possibilities. Was it destroyed? Are they thriving under Caesar’s teachings? Noa is clearly a descendant of Caesar, how did he end up on the west coast? Have they retained their ability to read and write? Did Maurice have kids? I need answers dammit, and I hope I get them in the following sequels.

Does the Geography on my Map Work?

Are there any map geek, geographic enthusiasts out there to help me on this one?
1: Are there enough mountains on this continent? Should I remove some or add more?
2: Does the river make sense? Are there too little of them?
  1. I added those desertic regions because the mountains would create the rain shadow effect, blocking the rain clouds from traversing to "the other side", thus creating a more arid region. But does it happen in tropical and subtropical climate? (I used to suck in geography in school)

2024.05.12 14:36 SlavicSoul- Presentation of my world (need opinions)

Presentation of my world (need opinions)
Hi Reddit! I finally decided to introduce my world to you (it doesn't have a name yet). So, it's a dark fantasy world that I created... well, just for the fun of creating a world, maybe later I'll make it into a D&D campaign setting or something.
A few weeks ago I had the idea of creating a world (it all started when I imagined the Celestial race) it is not my first world that I created nor my last and so I quickly started to draw a rough map.
The Continent
I drew a continent that I called... the Continent (again, I have no idea of a name) and I'm quite satisfied with the shape, tell me what you think of it.
As for the climate, I'm not too innovative, the North is cold, the South is hot, and there is a large mountain range and several smaller ones, a very large forest and a variety of different terrains and lots of islands ((I will look into geography later).
GOOD. What made me want to create this world was to give a world to my different races that I had developed separately and that I wanted to bring together in a cohesive universe. So for now, races are what I have developed the most. Here is a quick presentation (I will talk about it in more detail in another post if this interests you) :
Humans: relatively similar to the real humans of our Earth, i however wanted to give them unique and somewhat magical abilities depending on their "ethnicity" which allowed me to diversify them a lot. The main ethnic groups are the Imperials, the Nordics, the Armadians, the Helosians and the Yeorenians (I will talk about this in more detail in another post if you are interested). Humans are not the dominant race, but do pretty well at surviving and creating kingdoms.
Elves: elves are on the border between animal and plant. They live in a vast forest and rarely leave it. Their skin is greenish or brown and they have plants growing on their bodies. They have three life stages: the first stage lasts up to 100 years, during this stage they have normal flesh and are quite close to humans biologically. After 100 years of life, the elves perform a ritual with the Great Tree called Communion where they accept within themselves a small part of the tree which will merge with their body and allow them to communicate with trees and animals, and to no longer needing to eat but only water and light to survive. And after 300 years, the elves literally become trees. But special trees, a bit like the “huorns” of Middle Earth. They can communicate telepathically with the elves who have made Communion and be animated in "Ent" mode with a magical rite if the forest is threatened. I drew this sketch to help you imagine what they are like during the second instar:
Elf after Communion
Wild Dwarves: The Wild Dwarves, nowadays more commonly called Dwarves, are for many the most resilient and for some the bravest people on the continent. Millennia ago, the ancient Dwarven empire of the Ascor Mountains collapsed due to numerous circumstances. The descendants of the Dwarves who did not perish had to flee into the wild, or over the centuries, adapted and forgot all about their past. Dwarves are smaller than humans but more robust, strong and resistant. Men grow a long beard of brown, red or blonde color. They dress in furs and cloth and leather clothing and often have a weapon at hand. Their technology is very primitive. Although they seem capable of working bronze and iron, they have very little of it. Their favorite materials are wood, bone and leather which they use for almost everything. They have never been seen to use Elder Dwarf clockwork artifacts. They have no written record and their oral tradition seems quite limited. They prefer to keep to themselves and are wary of strangers, but from what is known of their history, their myths and legends only seem to span a few hundred years. It appears that all knowledge of the ancient Dwarf Empire before its collapse has been lost. They are neither peaceful nor friendly people. They rarely trade with outsiders and have no established political relationships with other races. Their tribes are nomadic and they go where their herds go. Very often this takes them into the territories of other races. They frequently enter the Iron Marches. If they come across civilized settlements, they generally do not hesitate to attack and pillage them. They are very robust people, accustomed to harsh conditions and few luxuries. They train to be warriors and hunters from birth, and almost all adults are proficient with an axe, club, or spear. When they go into battle, they hit hard. Few villages can withstand a dwarven attack, and most end up burned to the ground.
Orcs: Orzimar is one of the most orderly and best governed kingdoms on the Continent. Instead of being savage brutes, most Orcs are actually quite genteel, law-abiding, and deeply religious. Their faith is somewhat esoteric and full of complex mysticism, making it difficult to explain to outsiders. But at the most fundamental level, it is the worship of fire. Practitioners of this religion view the flame as a metaphor for their own soul. Fire is a destructive force that, if left unchecked, will devour everything in its path, and such is also the nature of the orc soul. The faithful believe that their minds and bodies were forged in battle to become the most dangerous, effective, and uncompromising fighting machines in the world. In the past, orc warbands spread across the land like wildfires, conquering and destroying civilizations and leaving only smoldering ashes in their wake. The Temple of the Eternal Flame was created to curb these violent impulses and refocus them on something positive. Fire, despite its destructive potential, can be used to forge complex tools, cook meat to feed the hungry, cauterize wounds to stop bleeding, and more. If controlled, it is a force for good, much like the Orc civilization under the rule of the Temple. In modern orc culture, stoic detachment, non-violence, and wisdom are praised. The Temple has developed a strict code of conduct that all worshipers attempt to follow. Other races often call it an "honor code", but in the orc language its name actually translates to "personality code". The code essentially describes not what is virtuous, but what is the absolute minimum of decency one must demonstrate to consider oneself a civilized person. The code is actually long and nuanced, but in general it proscribes truthfulness, loyalty, keeping one's oaths, resorting to violence only when necessary, protecting the weak, and not giving in to emotions.
Celestials: They are the antagonists of my world. Most of the Celestials you will see around the world look like white angels, with blue eyes, blond hair, and white wings. They are members of the highest social caste of the race and are simply called the Celestials and live atop gigantic white spiers scattered throughout the realm. Each of the spiers rises above the clouds and has no stairs, ladders, or any other climbing tools. The only way to reach the summit is to fly, and anyone unable to fly is considered not worthy of visiting the summit. Each spire culminates in a flat space known as the Garden. The Gardens are extremely beautiful and carefully maintained places for recreation. The Celestials themselves live in chambers carved inside the spiers and gather in the gardens. The most important members of society live higher than the less important ones. The higher the spire, the more prestigious it is to live there. The tallest and largest spire in the center of the kingdom is reserved for the King of Kings and his court and is off limits to everyone. Even members of the court are only allowed to enter or leave upon invitation and authorization from the king himself. Lower-ranking Celestials have been known to be decapitated simply for looking at the arrow without proper respect. It is customary to avoid looking directly at the king's arrow to avoid being offended. Each spire is ruled by a lord who lives in the garden itself and has absolute power over the life and death of all his subjects. The slightest disobedience is usually punished by clipping the offender's wings and throwing him off the edge of the garden. On the other hand, failure to show proper reverence or respect to the Lord is usually punished by blinding the offender. The Celestials have no courts and justice is administered by the Lords. Their society is very rigid and orderly, guided by tradition and ritual, but built on the concepts of Social Darwinism. Society pushes strong, ruthless individuals to the top and stigmatizes and punishes any sign of weakness, empathy or compassion. Those in power are encouraged to abuse their position and intimidate subordinates, while any pushback is considered a mortal offense and severely punished (usually by death or physical mutilation).
Gnomes: Gnomes: Deep within the networks of galleries and tunnels beneath the Ascor Mountains, where the oldest ruins of the Dwarves and many forgotten things lie, the Gnomes have taken up residence, reveling in the darkness of the depths. They are small creatures (the same size as Kaws) possessing both humanoid and insectoid features. Their large eyes with strange pupils, conditioned by millennia spent beneath the surface, are capable of seeing in the dark as well as in broad daylight and their pair of antennae detect vibrations and changes in pressure and the chitin covering their body allows them to to protect yourself. dangers of the deep. Unlike insects, Gnomes have only four limbs with jointed fingers and do not have mandibles but a mouth and two nostrils. Gnomes rarely come out of their underground realm, so few people have had the chance to encounter them. Despite their unusual appearance, Gnomes possess superior intelligence and consider themselves guardians of the land. The Elder Dwarves once cooperated with the Gnomes, using them as guides in the deep or even sometimes as advisors. After the fall of the Dwarves, the Gnomes populated various ruins of their neighbors and appropriated much of their knowledge. Nowadays, Gnomes are, for example, the only race that knows how to make a dwarven machine and how cities under mountains are actually built. Certain foreign scholars therefore sometimes go on expeditions to the Mounts of Ascor to meet the scarab people and receive their teaching. Gnomes are wise and avoid conflict, they also possess psychic skills such as telepathy and are innately proficient in several spells. Their cities, called colonies, are very densely populated and resemble gigantic anthills. They are governed by a group of scholars called the Archivists who guard many ancient dwarven and gnome texts and make many decisions for the colony. There are three archivists per colony and three times a year they all meet in one of the colonies to debate and share their discoveries.
Kaws: Kaws are small ravenfolk without wings, in fact I invented them from the Kenkus of D&D. Long ago, before the colonization of the Continent, the Kaws were the most numerous of the indigenous races. They were everywhere. They took to the skies and built their villages on treetops, cliff sides, or other high places. They were a proud and honorable people with rich culture and traditions, called Ma-Kaws. Then their story was abruptly interrupted when the first Celestials landed in the North. The Celestial troops poured into the forest towns of Ma-Kaw, the Kaws fought back and resisted for a few years. But the King of Kings of the time summoned his mages of the Celestial Order to cast a powerful curse on their enemies. Because of fate, Kaws would now be born without wings. Their homeland invaded by the Celestials, the raven men fled and emigrated en masse throughout the continent. The Celestians persisted in pursuing the survivors but quickly gave up while the Kaws mingled with the populations of the West, the East and the South, avoiding the North who were still too close to the Celestians. Since the fall of Ma-Kaw, the Kaws have never formed a nation again and have never gathered in a large group. Despite the fact that the Celestials no longer seek them out, the Kaws still have an instinctive need to hide. They are mostly thieves, assassins and smugglers, few people trust them but they still have a lot of qualities.
Here are the main races, there are others like the Djinns, the Resurrected or the Hobyars but they are less developed and I don't have much space to talk about them yet. Then I invented the kingdoms of my world. Here too, everything is not finished and I have a lot of “terra incognita”. I have roughly drawn the boundaries:
Political boundaries
1 - the Celestial Empire. The Celestials conquered a vast territory by destroying everything in their path and enslaving the local populations. It is the most powerful political entity.
2 - the Kingdom of Orzimar. Theocratic kingdom of the brave Orcs, it slows down the expansion of the Celestial Empire towards the West and is an example of order and safety. Orzimar is governed by the priests of the Temple of the Eternal Flame.
3 - the Third Empire (before there were two others) is the most powerful of the human kingdoms, populated by the Imperial ethnic group. A military state known for its dragon riders and effective tactics as well as its silk production, the Third Empire is ruled by an Empress.
4 - the Clans of Yeoren. Plains populated by fierce clans of Yeorenian humans, formidable sorcerers and horsemen very attached to their independence. The Third Empire often tried to conquer them, without success.
5 - the Land of Hob. One of the races that I am not described are the Hobyars (or Hobgoblins). Basically, they are large, intelligent goblins (because my goblins, which I call gnoblars, are small and stupid except in groups). The Land of Hob is a monarchy where the King Hob reigns, but the government is very chaotic and it is rare for a King Hob to stay in place for more than five years.
6 - the Kingdom of Dargolath ? Despite the fact that this kingdom covers a large territory, I don't know much about it. This is a human kingdom of an ethnicity that I have not yet created and I would like to make it a corrupt kingdom full of vices, especially among the nobility, or perhaps in civil war.
7 - the Great Forest ? The name sounds awfully simple so I'm looking for a better name. It is a very large forest populated by many elves. Half of the trees are made of late stage elves and in the center is the Great Tree. People are very afraid of this forest, really no one in their right mind would go there.
8 - the Northdale. It's very cold there and the Nordics live there. It's known for its bear riders and ice mages as well as its knights in super large and heavy armor (please don't think of a Russian inspiration for this kingdom because it's not the case) .
9 - the Iron Marches. A group of small, loose kingdoms initially part of Orzimar but populated primarily by humans. These are just a few fortresses in the wildlands.
10 - The Ascor Mountains. The highest mountain range on the Continent is located here as well as the ruins of the ancient Dwarven Empire. Of course, the mountains don't encompass the entire region, but since no one other than the Dwarves lives there they just call it "wildlands" or "Ascorland".
11 - the City of Helos. Helos, is one of the oldest cities on the Continent. Helos is a magocracy and contains the Academy of Helos and the Helosian Order where the majority of mages on the Continent are trained (for the functioning of magic in this world, I will talk about it in the comments if anyone is interested or in another post).
12 - The Malorne. A vast cursed swamp where all that are rejected take refuge.
13 - the Kingdom of the Sword. A military dictatorship that hates Helos and strictly forbids magic and hates religion. But damn, how beautiful their women are!
14 - the Wild Coast. Nothing here. Just a...wild coast.
15 - the Great Sea of Grass. It is a vast steppe populated by tribes of aggressive centaurs and a few Yeorenians.
16 - the Kingdom of ???. So I don't know what to put here. Maybe minotaurs?
17 - The City-States of Peloras. A league of merchant cities ruled by greedy princes, the greatest economic force on the Continent.
18 - the Desert of Qaesh. In the middle of the infinite dunes live the Djinns of Qaesh, a trading and mercantile people but full of mysteries. In the desert there are also many ancient ruins of unknown origins.
19 - the Kingdom of Aswanar. A powerful human slaver state that worships the carcass of a dragon.
20 - Oops, I forgot the 20 !
21 - the Land of Giants ? My giants live in the jungle and look a bit like Olmec giant heads.
22 - the Black Jungle. It is a very large and dense jungle haunted by evil spirits and populated by tribal Lizardmen. It is also the home of the Sserethes, a race of serpent-men who were vicious but later spread across the Continent.
23 - the Land of Beasts. Here live human tribes considered barbaric by their neighbors. Each clan is linked to a protective totem animal which gives them special abilities.
24 - the Armadian Islands. An archipelago made up of hundreds of small islands and one large island where there is a city called the Capitol. The Armadian Islands are home to humans of the Armadian ethnic group, skilled navigators and fishermen.
So. Please leave comments, say if you like any stuff or if you have any advice or ideas for me. I will now start to invent religions and geography as well as develop some kingdoms. Really if you like it, I can make other posts. I still have a lot of lore in my head, especially about Humans and Celestials. And then I haven't yet talked about certain races.
Thank you for your answers.

2024.05.11 21:55 tobimika Tips on how to create data for my animal guessing game

So i'm making a game where you guess a random animal by using dropdowns and guessing stuff like continents(a dropdown called continents with the 7 continents, you chose one and if its correct you know what continent/continents it lives on) and other things about the animal. But i'm having a bunch of problems on how to set this up so that it fits with all animals. In my current setup i have "continents" as a category, but this probably wouldn't work with marine animals that exclusively lives in the water. Like i could assign them a continent thats closest to the ocean they live in, but would this make sense?
So my two ideas on how to "fix" this are:
  1. Having both "continent" and "oceans" as a categories and only showing "continent" when its an animal that lives on a continent( IE land animals and freshwater animals etc) and hiding the "oceans" dropdown. Also only showing "oceans" when its a marine animal. If its an animal that lives in both like a seal or something similar i could show both. If its an animal that lives everywhere in the sea i can let the user know at the start of the game by removing the "oceans" dropdown and tell them that the animal is global. The same would apply for land animals (for example seagull). One of the issues with this is that most people dont know anything about oceans or marine animals etc, and a lot of animals would be easier to guess with only continents (like seals and penguins etc). With this option i would probably add a checklist the user can cross off before the game where they can chose to include continental and marine animals, but then animals like seals and saltwater crocodile etc wouldnt be in the continental animals game, which isnt ideal.
  2. Renaming "continent" to something like "range" or "region" and having the 7 continents + "ocean" in there. Like a singular option for ocean. The issue with this is that "ocean" is really broad. But this method is cleaner (even though its not ideal).
Do you have any better options? Please let me know. Ideally i could just continue using "continents", but this could probably get a little confusing and wouldn't make that much sense for animals that live in open ocean etc.
I only taxonomy from phylum to family, since i feel like there wouldnt be much reason to include genus, since a lot of genuses only have a couple of species and since you should be able to guess the animal by knowing the family and where it lives, size etc. I lowkey want to combine phylum and kingdom, but dont know if this is a good method and wouldnt know what to call it, the phylum replacement would look something like this: Mammals, Reptiles, Fish, Amphibians, Birds, Arthropods (i feel like this would cover all of the necessary animals, i could also include other types of invertebrates, but idk)
Also if you have any other ideas on how to change or improve my data for animals, please let me know. Example of a sketch of animal data for cheetah:
If you have any tips on how i could set up habitats and habitat types i would love that aswell, i dont want to have that many correct answers for each animal. Like i considered putting Savanna and Shrubland under grassland, so that i would only have to put grassland, rocky areas and desert as its habitats, but dont know if this makes sense. For habitat types im thinking something like this: Terrestrial, Arboreal, Aquatic, Semi-aquatic (maybe Aerial, but dont feel like this makes a lot of sense). Any tips would be welcome.
[ { "name": "Cheetah", "taxonomy": { "phylum": "Chordata", "class": "Mammalia", "order": "Carnivora", "family": "Felidae", "scientific_name": "Acinonyx jubatus" }, "geography": { "continents": ["Africa", "Asia"], "habitat_type": "Terrestrial", "habitat": ["Savanna", "Shrubland", "Grassland", "Rocky Areas", "Desert"] }, "behavior": { "diet": "Carnivore", "favorite food": "Antelopes", "group_behavior": ["Solitary", "Social"], "lifestyle": "Diurnal" }, "characteristics": { "colors": ["Brown", "Yellow", "Black", "Tan"], "weight": { "value": "40-65", "units": "kg" }, "height": { "value": "115-136", "units": "cm" }, "most_distinctive_feature": "Yellowish fur covered in small black spots" } } ]

2024.05.11 21:51 tobimika Tips on how to create data for my animal guessing game

2024.05.11 10:24 Quezni [Fo4] My performance is awful no matter what I do.

My FPS literally is constantly hovering around 25-28 FPS no matter literally anything I try to do to fix it. I have disabled my ENB, I have disabled my lighting mods, I've tried every .ini fix under the sun, I've installed every engine optimization mod I can find people suggesting. Literally NOTHING I do changes my FPS. I have absolutely no clue WTF to try at this point. I'm completely lost. There has to be something wrong with my game.

2024.05.11 00:10 crooked-counseling Looking To Move

I (F22) am looking to move somewhere in the US. I just posted, but I got told off (lol) because my requirements were a bit vague. I'm just going to go all in here on absolutely everything I'd like in a place to start off my career.
Weather:
A place with more than one season. I want it to actually get cold in the winter. I don't care how cold, I don't care how rainy or snowy or gray or dreary. I just hate the heat.
Geography:
Mountains, lush forests, and ocean are a plus. Definetly not someplace in the desert or surrounded by flat farmland.
Politics:
Preferably somewhere a bit more liberal. A purple or blue state.
City Requirements:
I'd like a walkable city, if possible. Or a city where drivers don't want to run over every biker they see.
I'd also like a city that scores well in healthcare, education, and overall health of residents.
Lots of things to do. Classes, restaurants, clubs, sports- I don't want to move somewhere stagnant and especially boring.
People my age. A good dating scene.
Other Requirements:
I grew up in a very unfriendly place. I know cities tend to be a bit gruff, but I'd really like to live somewhere a bit more personable and happy.
Preferably not somewhere that's going to tax me everytime I so much as breathe. A place where somebody my age just starting off their career could financially make it work, with enough left over to save.
I am curious about the Pacific Northwest, and I was originally deadset on moving there, until I started reading about the heatdomes they've been having. Am I overreacting, or is this cause for actual concern? Also, if anybody knows, how is the homeless population situation over there? Does it pose a safety concern?

2024.05.09 20:32 No-Actuator8548 For anyone who thinks anti-zionism is antisemitism, explain this.

Below are quotes from early zionists. How can someone possibly not be anti-zionist after knowing this. And to call us anti-semetic?? give me a break.
• Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern political Zionism, stated in his 1895 diary: "We shall try to spirit the penniless population across the border by procuring employment for it in the transit countries, while denying it any employment in our own country... Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly."
• Ze'ev Jabotinsky, a prominent Zionist leader, wrote in his essay "The Iron Wall" (1923): "A voluntary reconciliation with the Arabs is out of the question either now or in the future... [we] must either suspend our settlement program or continue it without paying attention to the mood of the natives. Settlement can thus develop under the protection of a power that is friendly to our enterprise
• David Ben-Gurion, a key leader in the Zionist movement and Israel's first Prime Minister who the main airport is named after, said in a letter to his son in 1937: "We must expel Arabs and take their places."
• Jabotinsky "The Ethics of the Iron Wall" (1923): "Zionist colonization must either stop, or else proceed regardless of the native population. Which means that it can proceed and develop only under the protection of a power that is independent of the native population – behind an iron wall, which the native population cannot breach
• Menachem Begin, who later became Israel's Prime Minister, stated in a speech to the Knesset in 1982: "The partition of the Homeland is illegal. It will never be recognized. The signature of institutions and individuals of the Partition agreement is invalid. It will not bind the Jewish people. Jerusalem was and will forever be our capital. Eretz Israel (the land of Israel) will be restored to the people of Israel, All of it. And forever."
• Yitzhak Shamir, another former Prime Minister of Israel, said in a speech in 1988: "The past leaders of our movement left us a clear message to keep Eretz Israel (the land of Israel) from the Sea to the River Jordan for future generations, for the mass aliya (Jewish immigration), and for the Jewish people, all of whom will be gathered into this country."
• Moshe Dayan, a prominent Israeli military leader and politician, declared in a speech in 1956: "We came to this country which was already populated by Arabs, and we are establishing a Hebrew, that is, a Jewish state here. In considerable areas of the country, we bought lands from the Arabs. Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you, because these geography books no longer exist; not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either."
• Arthur Ruppin, a Zionist leader and sociologist, wrote in 1913: "We must remember that when we talk of Palestine, and when the Zionists say Palestine, they mean not only the fertile plains and the valleys, but also the uplands, the mountains, the hilly regions, and the desert."
• Chaim Weizmann, who became Israel's first President, expressed in a speech in 1947: "We shall spread in the whole country in the course of time... this is only an arrangement for the next 25 to 30 years."

2024.05.09 10:46 HenriHawk_ Looking for desert related names

Hi, I'm transfem and am not the biggest fan of my current name (Henri). I've tried a few names I came up with, but none really sat right; it was a combination of worrying I won't be taken seriously.
I figured maybe this community might be able to help.
I really like the desert, and have been trying to find a name related to it. I've also been looking for names adjacent to exploration, adventuring, wandering, strong weather (such as thunderstorms and sandstorms), and nature in general (especially related to geography ans and sand/rock.
Any ideas? Even if it's just pointing me in the right direction that's also cool :)
I personally prefer syllable names that are just on the edge of "traditional" names and more unusual names but are still noticeable as actual names. Any help is appreciated, thank you :)

The Rationale for Quarantine is containment for health & healing
When a patient is suffering from a contagious disease they are quarantined from the general population or set apart (literally what apartheid means).
This age-old practice in medicine is rational, scientific, practical, ethical, implementable & works. While the contagious patient is under quarantine (or set apart from other unwell folk as well as the generally healthy) it is expected that the infected will not reproduce thereby passing the contagion to the new born. The patient may or may not agree, comply or cooperate with the quarantine - & despite this it is highly moral (& aligned with all ethical principles) that patients may be quarantined & treated (humanely, with dignity & without doing harm as per the Hippocratic oath) with or without their consent (for the well being of the patient & the general population) with the goal that one day the patients will be restored entirely to health.
This much most rational, reasonable, educated people will agree with. What one too many people may be unused to is : what if there is quarantine set up between SEEMINGLY & then sometimes ENTIRELY healthy peoples?
First we will deal with apartheid (segregation or setting apart) between ENTIRELY healthy peoples:
  1. we may set apart honor students & students with advanced course works from students who are not or students who are in need of special attention (or special education). It is agreeable & moral as long as every good faith effort (& extra expense at a greater cost to society) is made to help students who are in need of special education with the hope that one day all will be equally gifted & blessed.
  2. we set apart management or people with higher education, degrees or resources from people who are not as specialized, educated or resourceful. This is agreeable & moral as long as every good faith effort is made to help those who are behind to catch up, improve, get ahead, get trained, get educated etc. with the goal that one day all will be equally educated, degreed, resourceful & have excellent backgrounds.
  3. we may segregate school children activities (playing, singing) from untrained strangers & adults (smoking, drinking) with the hope that one day the adults will no longer have to smoke nor have to imbibe but will be as innocent, sweet, loving & ethereal as children.
  4. we may even segregate women's activities (education, socialization etc.) from men's activities & social events with the hope that one day men will be gentrified, beautified & worthy of the love of the fairer sex.
  5. there is a setting apart (segregation) of military vs civilian personnel. A military service member may be allowed in zones that civilians may be excluded from. This is because the serviceperson has the training & the value systems & the trust of fellow personnel that allows them access to military sights & secrets that civilians are not allowed access to. The armed forces are civilization's attempt at regularized conflict & the hope is that one day none will have to be trained so & this form of apartheid will hopefully end (as predicted in the texts where the instruments of war are become instruments of peace with civilian purposes).
  6. there is religious wisdom, knowledge & there are zones accessible to the trained, conditioned & trusted : for e.g. certain areas are only accessible to high clergy in various religions (Judaism, Christianity & Islam) with the hope that the clergy will help bring about a Kingdom of Heaven so there is no need for ritual, religious acts & all enjoy the Kingdom of Heaven as in the days of Eden & the upcoming reign of the Messiah (Masih akbar sahih) or Christ. The ancient Roman Patricians kept areas of their temples & their holy books (the Sibylline Prophecies) out of reach of the traumatized, unfortunate, poor Plebeians because the ability to deal with this knowledge, these instruments & wisdom is more conducive to an able, whole, healthy, loving, innocent, equality-loving, just & psychologically whole person. The Jews have areas of their temples accessible to the Levites, while the Muslims have an entire geography (Haramain Sharifain) cordoned off to people who have surrendered & submitted to a set of values. The Christians have books, areas of study & conferences restricted to those learned in the vocabulary & equipped with the training & where with all (resources, finances) to access that which has been deliberately hidden behind Greek & Roman symbols & terminology.
There are many such examples of setting apart based on skill-sets, education, financial resources (those who come into a corporation with investments & resources are oft set apart from those who have to be paid & trained) with the proviso that one day there will be equality.
The gentle & patient reader might begin to see that apartheid or setting apart remains moral as long as a good faith, all-out effort is made to ensure that the quarantined or unwell populations are healed. There are exceptional cases where society is so broken & medicine is not advanced enough that cures are unknown which is a scenario that is too unhappy to consider. This unhappy scenario is not in accord with the religion of Ibrahim SW (Judaism, Christianity & Islam) which espouses that every disease no matter how unusual has a cure.
Now we may deal with the concerns of including SEEMINGLY healthy peoples:
There are instances through history where people may object to quarantine between seemingly healthy peoples. For e.g. people opposed the segregation of seemingly healthy whites & non-whites in various parts of the world (be it the US, S. Africa, Middle East, Asia, British colonies etc.). This opposition arose most likely because in some cases there were quarantines & segregation or apartheid in place but there were entirely too few (or half-hearted) attempts at healing of the quarantined non-whites to health, equality (i.e. whiteness). When it comes to setting the oppressed apart from the privileged it may happen once too often that out of sight is out of mind, when we need to pay MOST mind to healing, compensation & restoration of those who have been oppressed into non-whiteness (in most cases generational non-whiteness).
ASIDE:
Briefly non-white races (& the various races) were created via oppression by the idolaters after the age of Peleg (200 years after the flood). The idea was to subject people to harm by marking them darker or non-white & using them as receptacles of vices (anger, lust, violence) so as to break them, humiliate them, torment them. It is assumed that the reader understands that non-white people though they may think that they are just as good as (&even better than) whites (& they may be in some areas) are actually unwell due to generational oppression. It is assumed that the reader is erudite enough to know that non-white people have been historically oppressed & race-harmed from whiteness to non-whiteness & are as a result become unwell & carriers of a variety of vices & conditions, if the reader is unware of this then they are referred to the writings on racial justice & on ending upstream/downstream inequalities, however brief summaries will be reiterated in the appendix upon request.
END ASIDE
We include the oppressed because it helps raise them higher without resulting in any decline of the larger society (including the oppressor). If including the oppressed results in harm (in any way) of any member of society (be it the oppressor) then inclusion may not be desirable. Now some readers may be too eager to ask for harm for the oppressors but this is a gentle reminder that harming the criminal element for their crimes is contrary to positive or restorative justice & results in long-term harm to everyone (for a explanation of how or why, the reader is referred to the work on restorative or positive justice, for in-depth explanations are beyond the scope of this piece, however brief summaries may be included in the appendix upon request).
However, opposition to segregation or apartheid or quarantine & healing of the race-harmed may stem from a variety of other reasons & may result in undesirable outcomes.
What good may opposition to quarantine & healing of the vulnerable (& even contagiously) unwell from the healthy do? why may someone oppose quarantine & healing of the unwell ? who are we enabling & empowering by viewing the vulnerable, oppressed, non-white ethnic folk as equal to the healthier, privileged (even at times including the oppressive) white folk ? why would certain white people wish to remain themselves white and prefer it if other non-whites remain non-white?
  1. By opposing quarantine AND healing for the non-white oppressed & treating the wronged as though they are the same as the oppressor the race-harmers are excusing the wrongs done to the oppressed. Furthermore opponents of healing & quarantine are enabling the race-harmer who may continue to make others ill (an act which may help the criminal but is to the detriment of humankind in the long run).
  2. If a race-harmer pretends that the oppressed non-white folk are equal to privileged white folk they are effectively ignoring the enormity of the wrongs done to nonwhites & as a result the race-harmer may continue to avoid consequences (or rather treatment) for their wrongs against society
  3. the race-harmer may resent the healing of their victims or treatment & restoration of their victims to health.
  4. the race-harmer & their allies (& unwitting proxies) may truly be misguided & view the contagiously unwell as healthy.
Let me remind the gentle reader that all manner of criminals (even & particularly race harmers & their unwitting proxies or allies) deserve compassion, understanding & forgiveness & positive justice ( so they are healed, restored & compensated along with their victims). If this is not obvious then the reader is referred to the writings on restorative (positive) justice.
How can someone convince the various parties that a patient is healthy & impart the illusion of seeming health?
They may create the illusion of seeming health & undermine society by:
  1. convincing the race-harmed that they are healthy. The deluded contagious oppressed non-whites may then go around spreading contagion ( when people avoid or exclude the contagious one too many unwell are likely to start crying discrimination & racism, while taking umbrage ).
  2. force the larger healthier population to include the unwell (pretending to or under the illusion that they are healthy or "equal") spreading contagion & dragging the entire society's health down (accusing the health-conscious avoiding spread of disease as "exclusive" & "elitist" & even "racist").
Why did S. African & US Apartheid have issues?
A High Gradient or high Disparity between Races
A major reason why the work of racial justice was paused in the US is due to the huge gradient & contrast between white & black races. To recap for the beginner: On the continuum of race-harm if Xanthocroid races (white, blonde, blue eyed) are the healthiest & least race-harmed, while the Australoid races are most harmed. Following is a rough list sorted by most healthy to most harmed:
  1. xanthocoid (light white) (found in the hyperboreal region or extreme north)
  2. melanochroid (dark white) (found in the Mediterranean region)
  3. mongoloid (Asiatic)
  4. australoid (mostly in Africa)
If two races that are on the opposite ends of health & harm are brought together the likelihood of healing & organized restoration are reduced. How is that? Imagine someone is a beginning student in college who is given the task of mastering advanced ideas. In order to get the student to advanced subjects the student is slowly & gradually exposed to increasingly complex & advanced concepts. If a beginning mathematics students is thrown into an advanced graduate level class they are going to be overwhelmed, stressed & come up with short cuts to learn the subject hastily (in order to catch up). If you want to climb a ladder it is easiest & fastest if the rungs are closer together than if the rungs are far apart.
Similarly with the task of restoring the harmed & racial justice. If a light white race is exposed to the darkest of African races they are likely to be overwhelmed, stressed & come up with short cuts to catch up. Racial -justice & healing of the oppressed races must be evident & the progress should be clear, a path ought to be sketched out in the open & progression made. The task should be incremental & not stark (nor overwhelming).
It must be noted that there are advantages to having such a high contrast or high disparity in racial health but those advantages are not long term & perhaps immoral.
A Lack of Prohibition on Reproduction of non-whites
Even when segregation & quarantine was implemented the non-whites were not prevented from reproduction (even though miscegenation was at times prohibited). Even today many misconception exist. For e.g. some women (ethnic ones in particular) obtain health benefits from becoming pregnant even when they realize that their off spring have health issues & are not considered desirable. The solution is to end in-utero births & encourage in-vitro conception, gestation & births while providing women with health care that equals or exceeds the healing they receive from becoming pregnant. Population management is important to bringing about racial equality or any kind of equality.
Viewing Non-whites as a "Resource" (or exploitable human resource)
As a way of incentivizing the act of racial justice the xanthocroid races of US & S. Africa were increasingly convinced into viewing the oppressed stigmatized as an exploitable human resource. Even when slavery was ended the ethnic races are often cast as useful workers in athletics, rap-music or some other endeavor. The main goal ought to be to heal & restore the ethnic non-whites not to use them as a "resource" in one industry or the other.
A Myriad of Excuses
There are a variety of reasons cited :
  1. not very practical : a reason cited is that it is easy to undermine segregation. This happens due to lack of enforcement, poor border security & enforcement. In the US when the first instances of breaches happened the response ought to have been (a) addressing the grievances of non-whites who have lived for decades without seeing improvement in their race (a1) altering the structure of society so individuals value the larger society over themselves & their families & gather around their benefactors irrespective of family or race (b) enforcing with measures those who undermine order & public health & safety. This has still not happened with illegal infiltration a little too rampant & breaches in the border a little too chronic.
  2. costs : the xanthocroid folk though they are the healthiest have historically yearned for economic & financial equality with the melanochroid of the Mediterranean (Rome). Despite making unprecedented economic gains they continue to sacrifice their environment, their race & morality for the sake of short-term economic gain. In fact it is so endemic that profit is used as an excuse for or against one too many endeavors (& was broached by a Scottish gentleman Adam Smith who himself wanted parity with the English gentry & was mistreated at their hands while at Oxford). It is anticipated that this inclination will likely taper. The best wishes & success is wished for them & theirs because they are likely going to be instrumental in bringing about justice.
Where Indian Apartheid/ Segregation went awry.
The caste-system or apartheid in the idolatrous parts has transformed into abuse, humiliation & unkindness towards the oppressed. This aggravates racial injustice & ensures that apartheid will continue in some form or another even if there is public outcry against the caste-system & attempts are made to ban it overtly. The same applies to attempts at quarantine & healing made anywhere in the world. The Indians are now trying to convince one another that caste systems were meant to be fluid & people ought to be able to move between the castes easily. This works only with the goal that eventually the oppressed lower castes will one day come to an end through this movement.
The reasoning for Islamic gender-based Segregation
Hazrath Umar RA broached the idea of gender-based segregation & veiling due to the influx of Muslim converts from the most oppressed parts of the world (Africa or Habsh). This was meant to protect the white women folk of Arabia (who were in those days whiter than they are today). The solution ofcourse is to help make everyone white but Islam as a religion does not have the science to implement climate change (yet) or does not want to (or is not allowed to) implement climate justice. The Islamic lands primarily occupy what the idolaters termed "hades" (or heck): barren hot deserts or hot & humid tropical lands (which are worse for disease transmission since heat increases bacterial activity & growth & the humidity facilitates ease of aerial transmission of bacteria through the presence of water droplets in the air). An important solution to racial inequity is changing the climate to become cold & snowy (cold heals & discourages bacterial growth, then kills bacteria once temperatures fall below the freezing point; heat does the opposite it encourages bacterial growth, mutation & adaptation till boiling point- in the process of sterilization heat may scar, burn & permanently mark, at the same time regions in the shade are not likely to reach boiling point whereas cold penetrates the coldest nooks & sterilizes without scarring but by preserving).
A Solution For Bringing About Racial Justice
RECAP: Two hundred years after the flood during the age of Peleg the one land mass (Pangea) on earth was separated into the various continents by the idolaters & three climate zones were created by them.
The first zone was called the "middle earth" with temperate climes & benign lifeforms (mediterranea or literally middle earth), the next zone was a cold zone called "hyperborea" (or extreme north) which served as purgatory (the cold sterilized or diminished the bacteria & virii & other diseases of body that also create psychological conditions & vices). The third zone was known as "hades" (the ancient name for heck or h_ll, heat on the other hand increases bacterial & viral growth & activity (worsening the condition)). This was where the earth was extremely hot & is the region around the equator , the tropics. Unlike the Mediterranean Hades (hot) & Purgatory (cold) have various functions. (the various advantages & disadvantages of hot vs cold to heal are discussed in the origins of upstream/downstream locales& are beyond the scope of this text but will be elaborated upon if requested).
END RECAP
The idolaters placed "middle earth" or mediterranea in the center while they placed "purgatory" (or hyperborea separate from hades (or heck) in the northern hemisphere, reversing these zones in the southern hemisphere. This is likely because they wished to control who they wanted to be healed & who they wanted to condemn. The solution to racial-inequity ought to be obvious.
We have to end the climate prevailing in hades or (heck) & heal people through the climate prevailing in purgatory or hyperborea (or "extreme north"). Once racial equality is reached hyperborea (or extreme cold) ought to be tempered & the one - temperate climate that prevailed in the pre-palegiastic era ought to return.
TLDR:
  1. Setting folk apart (apartheid / quarantine) & healing in medical context.
  2. Apartheid or setting apart & healing people who are healthy
  3. Apartheid or setting apart & healing peoples who are "seemingly" healthy
    1. how would someone discourage quarantine & healing of the unwell &
    2. why would the race-harmer go about discouraging quarantine & healing of the unwell
  4. why did the attempts at quarantine not continue in the US & S. Africa.
  5. current attempts at reforming the apartheid systems in India
  6. Islamic gender-based segregation & solutions
  7. Solution for bringing about racial justice : end race-harm (hades) & bring about purgatorial cold, restore to the one climate earth that prevailed with Pangea.

2024.05.08 19:05 eagle2120 [Very Long] Discussion/Theorizing about Elea and the Translations (Murtagh Spoilers)

Hi All
I planned to step away from posting for a few months, but the new map revelations have brought me right back in. There's a lot to unpack here. Before I dive in, thanks to u/Cptn-40, u/notainsleym, ibid-11962, dense_brilliant8144, and u/ba780 for helping shape these thoughts along with me.
The Map (Thanks ibid-11962
There are two sections I'd like to talk about - The Map itself and the runes/translations.
The tl;dr here is kind of hard because it's a lot of speculation that relies on visual representation, so I'll skip it for now.
First, the translations. All credit to u/notainsleym for translating the runes on the page.
On the Left side:
to the west:
Alalea
ancestral home of
elves, humans, urgals, and the
dread Ra’zac. Here once lived the Grey Folk
In the Middle, Underlined:
where dreams and dragons dwell
On the Right side:
to the east:
Alagaësia
ancestral home of
dragons and dwarves, here too
live werecats fanghur and other beasts
Let's dive in to the Left translations.
So, the Elves, Humans, Urgals, and the Ra’zac are all from Alaela. And the Grey Folk once lived there.
One curious picece here - Chris never says the Grey Folk originated from Alaela, as he does with the other races. Nor does he say the Grey Folk originated from Alagaesia.
So, assuming the map's creator has the information to authoritatively say, either the Grey Folk originated from another (unnamed) continent, or are they not from this planet. I lean towards the latter, but that raises a whole host of other questions - If they were from another planet, why did they land (and stay) on the planet? When did they move to Alagaesia (as Nal Gorgoth is likely a Grey Folk outpost, but we'll get more into that late)?
It's also especially curious that the Ra'Zac are from Alaela. I believe (and there is some evidence to suggest that) the Ra'Zac were created by Azlagur. Which, for any Fractalverse (FV) enjoyers, I also believe is a Corrupted Seed. The fact that the Ra'Zac originate from Alaela implies that Azlagur was also on Alaela at some point in time.
The timing of the story also implies that the Written Language of the AL, the Lideun Kvaedhi, was created by the Elves on Alaela. This is especially significant because it was derived from Fractal (the language of the Old Ones in the Fractalverse). So, this would imply that there are a significant amount of Fractal patterns/designs on Alaela. Which also points to overlaps with Grey Folk activity.
But that contrasts where the tablet was found by Galbatorix -
Q: So Galbatorix says that the name of the names is written in another land. Does that mean it was created outside of Alagaësia?
A: t's because the Grey Folk are not from Alagaësia.
So did he find it in that other land?
No.
He found it in Alagaësia?
Yes.
So he found the tablet in Alagaesia. Contrast that with this QandA Answer:
Where did the tablet with the name of names come from?
A: The tablet originated during the days when the Grey Folk still walked the land.
Let's combine the above with this last quote from Galbatorix:
And through my study, I discovered what I had for so long desired: a tablet written in another land and another age, by hands that were neither elf nor dwarf nor human nor Urgal"
This tells us a few things, and begs a few questions -
Because Galbatorix found the tablet in Alagaesia, yet it was written in another land, it was taken FROM that land TO Alagaesia, by someone.
The tablet was also likely written (likely by the Grey Folk) in another language. Because the Grey Folk did not create the Liduen Kvaedhi - The Elves did.
Q: Did the Grey Folk use the Liduen Kvaedhí or was it created by the elves?
A: Created by the elves.
So if it was written by another race, from another language, Galbatorix would have needed a mechanism to translate it. Beyond the tablet itself. To me, this implies the tablet was written in Fractal because there is already a psuedo-translation between the two; otherwise he would struggle to translate it (sans another rosetta stone-esque artifact). But the LK was derived from Fractal, so the translation would not require much interpretation.
Alright, moving along.
The next bit I want to talk about is the Urgals. Or, specifically the Urgals and Dwarves. The biggest revelation here is that the Dwarves and Urgals evolved on different continents.
This is HUGE news, because it is a very strong piece of evidence towards one of my theories.
I have long been a proponent that the species on Alagaesia did not evolve naturally - Let's dig in here.
First, lets examine this quote from Chris:
Q: Given the separation of the races between the two continents, is there an explanation for how Vêrmund the Grim got to Kulkaras (or how he got to that frozen region in the north he was said to have come from)? And is there an explanation for why Dwarves and Urgals seem to be closely related?
A: Dragons fly. And Dwarves and Urgals share a common ancestor that was present in many places.
This common ancestor is likely the Shagvrek (the same species as the Guntera spectre):
"What is Shagvrek... Hard to say. Is hornles from before... Before hornless fill land. Before elves have pointed ears. Before dwarves were short. Before dragons had wings. Before that" (Grieve, Murtagh).
Because they evolved on different continents, it likely implies that the Shagvrek were on BOTH continents at the same time.
This points to the Shagvrek being the "native" species of this planet, over any other creature in Alagaesia.
So Dwarves and Urgals shared a common ancestor that was present in many places. But... let's keep in mind the timeline here.
Dwarves (and presumably Urgals, around the same time) were only created 8000 years ago. Considering they had a common ancestor, 8000 years is not enough time on the evoluationary scale to see such divergent qualities (such as Urgals' horns, the Dwarves height, etc).
Signs here point to some kind of external force that accelerated their divergent evolution. Something like genetic tampering.
But the REALLY curious thing here, to re-iterate, is that Dwarves were created on another continent than Urgals. Meaning there are likely two distinct sources of genetic modification, both on different continents across the planet.
This lends a lot more credence to the Dwarves mythology about creationism - That the Dwarven "Gods" created the races.
So, Helzvog, in secret, created the Dwarves on Alagaesia from the Shagvrek. Then the other gods discovered what he did on Alagaesia, and created their own races... But they did it on Alaela.
One other curious tidbit here is that the Dwarven creation myth doesn't mention Urgals - It only mentions Humans, Elves, and Dwarves.
Alright, I've pontificated enough here, let's move over to the Right side:
ancestral home of dragons and dwarves, here too live werecats fanghur and other beasts
We've already covered the dwarves above - but the dragon piece is interesting because of the above quote from Uvek:
Shagvrek is hornless from before... before dragons had wings" (Grieve, Murtagh).
So, Dragons originated on Alagaesia, but did not initially have wings. It seems very unlikely that they developed wings naturally, given the VERY large evolutionary window that would take. Very curious.
Another puzzle piece here is Du Fells Nangoroth - The blasted mountains. The ancestral home of the dragons.
"Before we formed our pact with the Elves, we kept our hearts in Du Fells Nangoroth, the mountains in the center of the Hadarac Desert. Later, after the Riders established themselves on Vroengard... wild dragons and paired dragons both entrusted their hearts to the Riders for safekeeping" (Souls of Stone, Brisingr)
"Nal Gorgoth... The name sounded Dwarvish, at least in part... It reminded him of Du Fells Nangoroth, which was what the elves called the mountains in the center of the Hadarac Desert - where wild dragons used to live" (Bachel, Murtagh).
The Wild Dragons settled here because they liked the heat and warmth, and the sand was "good for their scales". But... the desert wasn't created until the Beor mountains were created, which was after the Dwarven creation.
So, where did the Dragons live before that? And at what point did they have wings? We don't have a documented history of the Dragons' origins, but we know the dragon's can't be too old because Uvek recounts a time BEFORE dragons had wings, which had to have been recorded somewhere by some of the races. So going all the way back to the creation of the dwarves (~8000 years ago), but no so far enough back to where no races existed (TBD, but can't be too far back), dragons evolved to have wings. Seems very unlikely that this evolution was natural. And, again, the evolution again happened on Alagaesia.
The reason I call this out as especially significant is because of this bit right here:
here too live werecats fanghur and other beasts
Which implies Alagaesia is/was not the ancestral home of Fanghur.
So we have fire-breathing lizards (original, wingless dragons), air lizards (Fanghur), and water lizards (Nidhwal). They all have overlapping traits (ex/ hunting with their mind), and only ONE (Fanghur) of them who can naturally fly. Sounds like were missing some earth lizards here.
Note also that the werecats did NOT originate form Alagaesia.
The last piece of lore I want to talk about here (in connection to the actual translations) is the door in Galbatorix's chamber in Uru'baen:
Embossed across the doors was a life-sized oak tree, the leaves of which formed an arching canopy that joined with the roots below to inscribe a great circle about the trunk. Sprouting from either side fo the trunk's midsection were two thick bundles of branches, which divided the space within the circle into quarters. In the top-left quarter was a carving of an army of spear-bearing elves marching through a thick forest. In the top-right quarter were humans building castles and forging swords. In the bottom left, Urgals-- Kull mostly-- burning down a village and killing the inhabitants. In the bottom right, dwarves mining caves filled with gems and veins of ore. Amid the branches of the oak, Eragon spotted werecats and the Ra'Zac, as well as a few small strange-looking creatures that he failed to recognize. And coiled in the very center of the bole of the tree was a dragon that held the end of its tail in its mouth, as if biting itself" (That Which Does Not Kill..., Inheritance).
Chris put the door here very intentionally. Initially, I thought it was the origin of creation - but now I think otherwise, specifically because of the Ra'Zac.
It's kind of hard to tell exactly what the door means at this point, but it's definitely significant in some way that I can't work out at the moment.
Alright, now that the Lore translations are done, let's take a breath and pivot to the Planet/Geography.
Here is the photo of the planet again, for anyone who doesn't want to scroll back up.
Alagaesia is on the right-most continent, on the upper-right edge. We can see the Beors, which seemingly have a large-ish entrance/gap in the top-center that leads towards the mountains.
Note that the Beors are not a natural mountain range, and according to the Urgals they were formed as
"Rahna is mother of us all... and she who raised the Beor mountains, when she was fleeing the great dragon" (Over Hill and Mountain, Brisingr).
So, she formed the Beors while running away. Which must have taken a MASSIVE amount of energy. I mean, take into context how WIDE and TALL the entire range is - and one person supposedly raised them all. Wild stuff.
You know, zooming in really closely, the Beor mountain range almost looks like some kind of glpyh in the Ancient Language.
We can also see the spine, which looks funnily enough like a dragon splayed across the coast of Alagaesia.
The big piece I want to talk about here, though, is Du Weldenvarden. It's huge on the map, and extends all the way to the coast.
The name always bothered me - It translates to the Guarding Forrest. But... we never got a clear explanation for what it was Guarding. Or, what it was Guarding against.
I think Murtagh gives us some ideas.
Per the map, we can see it's a physical barrier from the Northern parts of the continent that extends far, far to the right.
Okay.. but why is that significant?
Because of the Northern Wind, Cold, and Shadows.
"A black sun rimmed by black flame hung against a darkling sky. The stars were faded, guttering; the air cold and dry, and a bitter wind blew in from the North" (Mother's Mercy, Murtagh).
"He again felt the bitter touch of a northern wind" (Breaking Point, Murtagh).
"It is true that Urgals slew Jarnuvosk in the icy reaches of the far north, but you are mistaken as to the reason Galbatorix and his unfortunate party ventured forth"
For an instant, Eragon felt the King's mind: A terrible, shadow-ridden vista swept with bitter cold" (The Gift of Knowledge, Inheritance).
Now, I don't have a great answer for the Northern Wind. It cold, it comes from the North, but as for why it's so sinister?
We don't really know.
But, to reiterate here, we are now at TWO physical barriers that border (protect) Alagaesia - The Beors and Du Weldenvarden.
Considering that neither of them are natural (Du Weldenvarden stems from the Menoa tree), it is not an accident that they were both placed here.
But what is the purpose? Why put up these barriers?
We can't really say for certain, but that's boring.
My guess - To stop the spread of smoke. Black smoke, to be specific. It mitagtes the influence of Azlagur (spread through his black smoke) in Alagaesia.
So, if that's true, why Alagaesia?
Why indeed. That's the question - There is something extremely valuable in Alagaesia that we don't currently know about, or understand; otherwise, why else would we have these two unnatural physical barriers.
Alrighty, we're getting up there in word count and I'm sure I've missed a bunch of implications from the stuff uncovered so far - So let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Dead Bones (unique salient divine ability) Bhaal has honed his skills at torture to such a degree that he can turn his victims’ own bodies against them with a single strike, rending bone from flesh with but a thought.
Fifteen times per day, Bhaal can force up to 15 creatures to which he has dealt hit point damage to succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 77) or die as their bones are violently torn out of their bodies in a spray of jagged shards. All creatures within 15 feet must succeed at a Reflex save for half damage or be rent apart by the splinters, suffering 15d6 vile damage and 15d6 piercing damage. Creatures that die from the damage suffer the same fate as the original victims.
At will, Bhaal can animate these bone splinters into a halo of 3d10 blades that orbit a point of his choice (though usually his own body) and launch them as ranged touch attacks with a range of 150 feet. He can launch up to 3 blades per round as an iterative attack, and each blade is treated as one of his bone blades as a ranged weapon. Any creature that dies suffers the effect of Dead Bones as detailed above.
Alternatively, the Lord of Murder can turn the bone splinters into a barrier of magical grinding bone that functions as a blade barrier dealing 30d6 damage, half of which is vile damage. The barrier can be attacked and otherwise has all the properties of a wall of bones. Bhaal can make the barrier permanent if he desires, and creatures that die either from the damage or from the initial effect of Dead Bones cannot be raised or resurrected until the barrier is destroyed. (CL 65th).
Divinity Bhaal is an embodiment of ancient divine power. As such, reality is his to shape as he sees fit.
Alter Reality: Bhaal may alter reality within the bounds of his portfolio. This functions as a wish spell that requires no XP or material cost. The limits of this ability are fully described in Deities and Demigods. He can additionally alter his size from Fine to Colossal and may additionally alter up to 100 pounds of objects in the same manner.
Avatar: Bhaal can have up to ten avatars at any given time. The Lord of Murder prefers to manifest in urban settings as the Slayer, a male, humanoid corpse with a feral face and ivory skin inset with deep lacerations that flow with black ichor. In rural areas, he manifests as the Ravager, a giant of a man over 30 feet tall, with long, tough sinews, a flowing beard and mane of hair, eyes that glow with the flames of Gehenna, a face twisted in a grimace of supernatural hatred, and two 7-foot-long curved horns protruding from his forehead.
Divine Blast: Bhaal can create a ray of divine power that extends for up to 15 miles, dealing up to 31d12 points of damage, as a ranged touch attack with no saving throw. Bhaal can unleash a divine blast 19 times per day, and alter the visual, auditory and sensation-based qualities of his divine blast as he desires. Bhaal’s divine blasts generally take the form of blasts of bloody fire carrying the whiff of brimstone.
Divine Shield: As a free action 23 times per day, Bhaal can create a shield that lasts 10 minutes and stops 150 points of damage from attacks. Once the shield stops that much damage, it collapses. Any damage Bhaal is naturally immune to does not count towards the shield’s limits.
Double Death (Ex) Twice per day, Bhaal may declare one death attack to be a double death attack. When he makes the death attack, the victim must make two saving throws to survive rather than just one.
Dual Boost (Ex) Bhaal can use two boost maneuvers simultaneously. Whenever he initiates a boost maneuver, he can also initiate any other boost maneuver that he knows as a free action. Both boosts he initiates are expended normally. He can use this ability three times per day.
Lord of Murder (unique salient divine ability) Death is Bhaal’s kingdom, but assassination is his trade. Murder is his art and his gift, and he has honed his skills at bringing death to truly terrifying heights. This grants Bhaal the following boons:
Enhanced Spellcasting: Bhaal continues progressing his assassin spells up till 9th level, although he can only select spells from the Dread Necromancer spell list and the illusion and necromancy schools in addition to the spells allowed by his Assassin and Soulreaver levels.
Killer Instinct: 15 times per day, Bhaal can make a death attack against a foe without studying the foe beforehand. Every attack of opportunity he makes resolves as a death attack.
Profiling: Bhaal can study a target as a move or swift action. He gains a +15 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Search, Spot and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +15 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it as well as to the DCs of all Assassin and Soulreaver abilities against that target, and automatically confirms all critical threats against his studied targets. He can maintain these bonuses against 15 opponents at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or he studies a new target. When Bhaal deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action.
Trained Killer: Bhaal uses his character level to determine the effectiveness of his assassin class abilities. This also grants him 10 virtual bonus feats in addition to those already gained from his divine rank and his class levels.
Quick to Act (Ex) Bhaal has a +5 bonus on initiative checks.
Sense Magic (Su) Bhaal can spend 10 minutes focusing upon a weapon or suit of armor. If he succeeds on a level check (DC 10 + the caster level of the weapon or armor), he can identify the properties of that item, including its enhancement bonus and special abilities. This ability does not reveal the properties of artifacts or legacy weapons, though it does indicate that such items are significantly powerful.
Sudden Death (Ex) Twice per day, Bhaal can draw on unholy energies to strike with blinding speed with a death attack. This death attack is a full-round action, but it does not require him to spend 3 rounds studying his victim; the attack must still be a sneak attack, however.
Vampiric Death (Su) Bhaal may declare a single death attack to be a vampiric death attack, up to twice per day. If the death attack successfully slays the victim, he absorbs a tiny portion of the departing soul's life energies and gains a +6 profane bonus to his Strength and Constitution and +6d6 temporary hit points for the next hour. This cannot be combined with the double death ability.
Possessions
Bhaal wields the bone blades, a set of bone daggers he can conjure at will as melee weapons or as ranged weapons. The bone blades are +10 ghost strike keen speed wounding daggers of ki focus, martial discipline and unholy power when wielded as melee weapons and +10 ghost strike keen speed wounding daggers of distant shot, triple throwing and unholy power as ranged weapons. On a critical strike, the victim is afflicted with wither limb. Bhaal’s weapons are extensions of his being and thus are treated as unarmed strikes when it would be most advantageous and confer their weapon bonuses and special abilities to his unarmed strikes. (CL 65th)
Other Divine Powers As an intermediate deity, Bhaal automatically receives a die roll of 20 on any check. He treats a 1 on an attack roll or saving throw normally and not as an automatic failure. He is immortal. Senses Bhaal can see (using normal vision or darkvision), hear, touch, and smell at a distance of 15 miles. As a standard action, he can perceive anything within 15 miles of his worshippers, holy sites, objects, or any location where one of his titles or name was spoken in the last hour. He can extend his senses to up to ten locations at once. He can block the sensing power of deities of his rank or lower at up to two remote locations at once for 15 hours. Portfolio Sense Bhaal can sense any act of assassination or murder the instant it happens and is aware of any act of murder or assassination, as well as any death, 15 weeks before the event occurs. He is likewise aware of any act of ritualistic killing or bounty hunting. Automatic Actions Bhaal can use any skill related to death and murder as a free action if the DC for the task is 25 or lower. He can perform up to 10 such free actions each round. Create Magic Items Bhaal can any kind of magic item that facilitates assassination or death, as long as the item’s market price does not exceed 200,000 gp.

2024.05.06 21:09 usiku_arm Armageddon Seasons: Shadows of the North (also Areas of Play & Open Clans)

https://preview.redd.it/wq782fz3uuyc1.png?width=1806&format=png&auto=webp&s=509e614524707884f3ac0e1ce0fdda9bfe06e6bf
The Grey Forest Approximately Year 40 of the 23rd Age, a decisive action was taken by Muk Utep to address the persistent issues emanating from the Drovian shadow located over the Grey Forest. A mission led by Muk's forces resulted in the subsidence of the surrounding darkness and other related disturbances, signaling a new chapter of relative stability in the area. When the shadow finally lifted, it revealed a devastated forest that took decades more again to recover and regain its former vitality.
Many ventured into its depths to explore this new landscape, but few returned. Those who did claimed that the once-abundant kryl threat had vanished, leaving those curious about the new territory puzzled as to what was now claiming the lives of explorers.
Morin's Village After the liberation from the suffocating grip of the shadow, Morin's emerged from its long nightmare. The toll of two decades under the shroud had left an indelible mark on the once-thriving community. Those who endured the darkness bore visible scars, both physical and psychological, their minds and bodies warped by the relentless oppression of the Drov and its umbral abominations. The fabric of the town itself seemed to mirror the bleakness that had engulfed it for so long.
As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the lingering darkness, revealing the town's desolate streets and pallid inhabitants, it became apparent that Morin's was no longer the vibrant hub it once was. The population immediately dwindled, with many fleeing to the sanctuary of Tuluk. Only the strangest and most twisted of the inhabitants remained. Morins became essentially a ghost town, empty buildings echoing with the whispers of the past.
Raiders and thieves brave enough to make their way inside looted what was left behind, leaving only the structures – at least those that made it out to tell tales of their exploits. Many who risked the journey and did survive told of a group that inhabited the abandoned village, calling themselves The Grey.
Year 45 of the 23rd Age It was determined the village should be shuttered rather than burnt to the ground. The gates were shut and barred. While there were no inhabitants to be seen when the soldiers came to shutter the village, to this day, strange wailing sounds, cries of pain, and clawing against the walls can occasionally be heard coming from within.
Tuluk The surge of the tainted Morin's populace into Tuluk triggered the implementation of martial law across the city-state. This action resulted in the shutdown of several businesses and the construction of barricades around Red Sun Commons, restricting access to key parts of the city. Despite these constraints, rumors of a hidden vibrant culture beyond the barricades persist, hinting at pockets of laughter, song, and beauty, although the specifics of activities within Tuluk's heart remain veiled in secrecy.
While Tuluk remains open to visitors, the reception they encounter is notably less warm than in the past. Faithful are seldom, if ever, seen, and the Red Sun Commons is now predominantly patrolled by the synchronized marches of the Listless. The city-state appears to have turned inward, minimizing its external engagements for several decades. Occasionally, when prospectors venture Northwards in their search for profitable stakes, Tuluki forces will show themselves, swiftly assuming control over any discovered areas of interest.
Periodically, a Kadian trade delegation ventures beyond the city walls on an expedition across the Known, making brief diplomatic appearances in Allanak. These forays are marked by minimal engagement and the delegates are notably reticent about their experiences inside Tuluk, invariably sparking renewed curiosity each time the topic resurfaces.
The Grey Forest OOC Update The Grey Forest has undergone a comprehensive renovation, taking a bit longer than I initially anticipated but resulting in significant improvements (I hope you agree!). While the geography remains essentially unchanged, numerous mapping errors have been corrected (no, unfortunately, that was not an intentionally spooky labyrinth amidst the trees and the mud, it was just very very broken). Room descriptions have been updated, and the trees throughout the forest have been diversified to include young, medium, and old varieties. The flora has been refreshed and detailed, and many new echoes have been added to enhance the atmosphere across different biomes. Additionally, the wildlife has been updated to exhibit some seasonal behaviors and reproductive cycles. Changes have also been made to the inhabitants of the forest. There are new places to discover and new resources to harvest. Everything is now sim-desert controlled (herb mappers need not apply).
