Rain on my parade

2024.05.13 15:09 pohltergiest Rain on my parade

It's mother's Day back in Canada and I'm thinking about mom today. I'm so sick though that I'll do a call tomorrow when I'm doing better. I tend to do poorly on phone calls when I'm not well. I woke up very ill this morning and my body did not want to cooperate at all. Who knew that biking a lot on a body trying to kick an illness might prolong said illness.
The rain indeed came and did not stop. It was pouring cats and dogs in the morning and the prospect of going outside in the rain while sick made me feel miserable. With my poor condition and the possibility of a thunderstorm during the day, we were in no condition to be going very far. We tried to extend our stay but the hotel was fully booked, our next best bet was to head up the road into the mountains and find a place there.
On my booking app, one hotel was listed at half it's usual price for some reason. We've stayed at a lot of livemax hotels and found them to at least be okay, so we figured it was safe to take the cheap option this time, which was $49. It was one of their onsen properties as well, and it looked like there was a train nearby if we wanted to get food and a bath in the next town over, which looked to be nicer. It was either that or pay another $100 for what would amount to a shelter from the rain, and in my addled state where sickness feels like a waste of time, a cheap hotel is a good way to convince me to stay put and rest. It was 20km away and the rain wasn't going to get any lighter, so we packed up, donned our rain gear, and set out for some breakfast.
A grocery store was near our hotel (which again was just a series of trailers in the parking lot of a casino), and we figured we could get something for breakfast there as nothing else was open on the way. Inside we found a store that was a bit of a time capsule. The music, the ambiance, even the too-cold air conditioning felt decades old. The aisles felt too large and there were large empty areas signalling that the store did not have enough business for it's size. The place was meticulously kept though, even if it was only one lonely cashier in the cavernous building. We found some hot coffee and had a few pastries while we talked about the economy of Japan and how the feeling here could relate to back home. Can anything be done with the general feeling of decline everywhere? Why were things so much better in Japan decades ago? Questions for economists, but not ones they necessarily have good answers for. I feel like many questions for economists are better suited for fortune tellers.
There were a couple of games in the grocery store which caught our eye, including a trio of games for kids (given the console was two feet off the ground), that were essentially slots. You pumped in coins to adjust your bet, then pressed a button to play a chance game, and if you won you got more coins. I have no idea how anyone thinks this kind of game is appropriate or ethical to have around children. No wonder this country has such a gambling problem.
The ride from Nikko to our hotel was calm and wet. The hill upwards was gentle enough that I didn't feel too exhausted, but I did feel like I was going to fall asleep on my bike if the coughing fits didn't take me down first. I really felt wretched today, the week and a half of being sick because I never took the downtime to get better is really catching up with me today. Make time for your body or your body will take it's time, I guess. The road followed a river in a steep gorge, the mountains rising up on either side. Everything was blanketed in thick trees, the slopes now too steep for most developments.
Nonetheless, little onsen towns were nestled into the cracks of the mountains here and there, but the decline of the area was impossible not to notice. While the odd resort was still shiny, it's clear the volume of travelers to the area has dwindled from lofty amounts many many years ago. This area felt harder hit than most we've been to, with half the buildings we saw being either abandoned or in a sorry state. Whole hotels empty, apartment blocks with the windows smashed in, shuttered storefronts. It's sad for the people who have called this area home for generations.
We got to our hotel without much of a plan, as I was too addled to think that far. We agreed that food was going to need to happen, and the onsen I wanted to see was in the town downhill from us. We decided the train was our best bet for parking our bikes while we waited to check in. The train station was nice, but looking at the departures board, the train only ran a handful of times per day, and we wouldn't get back till late in the evening. It also would cost us $30 each just to ride two stops there and back. Not going to work. Instead we went to one of the two places open during lunch.
The restaurant was cute with half a dozen tables and a dated but spotless interior. The ladies we saw clearly were a multigenerational family running the place, with a woman old enough that she couldn't stand up straight anymore still zooming around with tea and orders. Soaked, cold, and with nowhere to go, we brought our books and settled in to stay for awhile. The restaurant never got more than half full and we ordered several meals worth of food, drinks, and desserts, so we figured they wouldn't mind if we sat and quietly read our books. I got a yakiniku set meal and bryce got the karaage set, both were great but Bryce's karaage was especially good. We also got a cola float to share which was delightfully old fashioned but very tasty.
When it was finally time to check in at our hotel, my body was starting to act up. I think the cold and wet and tiredness was getting to me as some of my neurological issues flared up. Not a big deal, but had me a bit twitchy and in desperate need of a hot bath and rest. The hotel lobby was quite nice, but the rest of the place was as we expected; enormous, and falling apart, but working. Various walls and ceilings had water damage that was never going to be fixed, many many doors said "private" or "staff only" that looked to be old banquet halls. A lounge laid dark, never to have a singer again. We found a roof access, the roof patched many times by hand. An arcade with games that were at least 20 or 30 years old were still in working order, maintained as well as any other thing here. The private onsen was damaged beyond use, but the main public ones were functioning.
My onsen was in the basement, and the entrance area again had a huge lounge area that would never be used, and a bunch of other darkened areas that were curious but creeped me out. The bath was in a large room with tall windows and a big stone bath, a large rock wall being the main attraction. I spent some time soaking here till I watched some ladies walk out a different door. Monkeys were bumping on the windows, so I followed them where that went. It lead to three outdoor baths, one just a tub. The big bath overlooked the river and was quite lovely, clearly what was keeping this place afloat, so to speak. Again, really good value for $50 for the two of us.
After my bath, I got up and nearly passed out from the lack of blood pressure and immediately started feeling ill. I went back to the room, grabbed some water and got horizontal. The room is a rather spacious Japanese style room with tatami mats, but with soft beds. The AC works and we have a view of the river from the 6th floor. This place is great. Bryce had a great time soaking in his onsen, which also had outdoor baths and a sauna too. After he returned to the room we went down to the arcade to amuse ourselves before dinner.
As I mentioned the arcade contained some real antiques, pinball-ish games with carved wood channels, racing games with hand drawn art, slots that had real spinning wheels instead of just screens. Everything was also brutally difficult, also in keeping with the time period. Bryce got the high score on the alligator whack a mole game and also beat me 3 out of 3 on the drum game. Can't win em all.
We walked to the only other place in town for dinner, going into a creepy tunnel that went under the hotel. We eventually decided that the tunnel went straight to the kitchens and probably was used for deliveries at some point but now was full of junk and discarded kitchen equipment that was probably too difficult to get rid of. Every old or abandoned building we've seen is full to the brim with empty paint cans, old computers and dilapidated equipment. This stuff must cost a fortune to get rid of.
The restaurant we went to was another cute Japanese restaurant, this one with an older woman serving and a young man in the kitchen cooking. I got the house special udon and Bryce got karaage again. Maybe Bryce needs to branch out a bit. The udon meal was heavenly and wonderful on my sick body, lots of seafood, a hearty broth and chewy noodles. Easily the best udon I've ever had. We ordered extra karaage and a few drinks while we talked strategy for the next week of riding. Also, like the last place, we felt we could stay because they didn't have much business and we wanted to order more because of it. We stayed quite a while but nobody else came.
We decided to cut out a section of the north tour and head directly through the mountains to our port. We're feeling stressed about the end of the trip and want more leeway in case things go wrong and also more time in Hokkaido as we've heard good things. We'll miss out on Fukushima and Sendai and Morioka, but get to experience the internal mountain valleys of northern Japan. This feels like a decent move, as we've seen a lot of the coastal lowlands already and some highland adventures sounds good. Plus it gains us half a week in hokkaido which will allow us three or four days to prepare for our departure, which means lots of time to find gifts and other cool things to bring home.
Back in the hotel room, we're looking for a nice rest and an early start tomorrow. We have two options, a blistering 5 day tour with four 100km days, or a 7 day tour with 6 75km days. We're shooting for the latter. We'll attempt the big ride just after Sapporo. For now, I want to get healthy and enjoy the ride. Sleep tonight and tomorrow is a new day, hopefully I'll be healthy by then.

2024.05.12 03:44 Retroid69 [lyrics] Botticelli Blue

verse 1:
bigger spoilers than a beautiful mind could offer,
call it my sixth sense, but i’m blind as an author
i broke the chains that bound my mind to the earth,
mix the lazuli with white and yellow, bind for gold’s worth
call it Champagne for Breakfast, get Meyhem on the line,
wrap my STI in the blue paint, pay him by design
painter due for his payment, i pass him my greens,
rich as emerald, he’ll get high by any means
chaos at my fingertips, i chose to be complacent,
sonic speed, a dozen rings on my digits, all adjacent
infinite rings like Draupnir, i blow them all with my lungs,
spearhead a Spartan campaign, show them all my golden guns
bonds in the casino safe, sky fell on my poker table,
only live twice, my diamonds are forever, joker’s fable
ashes to ashes, like the smoker’s fatal,
hashes for cashes, i call that a gold portrayal
rashes on my hands cuz i worked them to the bone,
working with silver to make gold, turning blue like the stone
the stone of lapis, priceless like the statue of Nike,
it’s all Greek to everyone but me, value of Aphrodite
for the love of god, keep focused, all nighters,
spoil the child, spare the rod, gall the writers
nah i spoil the hot rod and spare the child, ballin’ fighters,
dump the gas in the tank, not the pit, fall with lighters
my words float light as helium, truth be told,
but the stories are dense like a mountain gold
rhyme schemes like blueprints to the Museum of the Future,
even my opps do buy my music though, don’t call me a moocher
schmoozer perk in my skill tree, i get full discounts,
check the bottles ‘fore i check out, never skip the fluid ounce
that blue paint is worth more than your life times a million,
but i guess zero times a million is still zero, leave you on vermilion
verse 2:
the vermilion Vuitton bag, the Botticelli Burberry coat,
all these colors, but the personality’s gray, Mercury choate
all these designer brands, but Prada was non grata,
couldn’t secure the license unlike the beat, fly to Nevada
bet all deals on Vantablack 13, turn your luck upside down,
can’t see slots, get your face shot, go to a lakeside town
lake waters were clear as your personality, ain’t gray no more,
take matters into my own hands, can’t stay no more
trouble in paradise, pickpocket my pocket watch to waste my time,
diminished returns like you slipped the chord in the middle of the line
the progression’s all fucked up, but still sounds incredible,
2D to 3D, that’s some big leap for grounds dimensional
intentional jail time, brought a flip phone behind bars,
not that 2000s shit, i mean the luxury flipper, defined stars
crack your bones like i cracked your phones, lost contacts,
no backups for your drug dealers, costs contracts
rack up consecutive years with bigger clips, extended sentence,
emptied the cab, hit the floor taking shots at the bar, no dependents
drank all my wine, no more to make the ancient paint,
don’t give me ultramarine, too bold for gold, patron saint
Catherine of Bologna’s on the line, she’s trynna phone ya,
said she saw your side skirt Antonia, she’s trynna bone ya
stone ya to the ground, cuz you’re unfaithful to the arts,
moan your name like a bitch, hitch the rich to the hundred charts
hot ones sauced in the penthouse like i filled the pool with buffalo,
dip some boneless wings in that hot shit, squatter in the bungalow
i felt the undertow of your words, because you thought you were spitting fire,
i’ll cop you to the ground like you’re a shitting liar
dire need of fitting into society, that’s all you have to think about,
a bout of doubt to find a way out of town, you’re a pussy the shrink cut out
of his little black book of degenerates who try to repair their own lives,
drivin’ round the Botticelli Subie while my drug phone vibes

2024.05.12 02:54 GroundbreakingHeat38 Live Texas Hold’em Games in Denver and surrounding areas

I am traveling with my husband to Denver next week for a few days. He enjoys Live Texas Holdem, so I wanted to find a place he could play while we are visiting.
I was considering driving to Blackhawk and checking out one of the casinos there, but I wanted to see if there are any other places in Denver he could play without driving to the mountains. We will be there Monday-Wed/Th and I know these may be slower days at the casino. He enjoys playing and getting to know players/bullshitting/etc as much as he enjoys playing the game.
I know in our town we have a bar where you buy two drinks and then you get $15 in chips free to play all night at their bar. Things like that. I’m sorry if I sound dumb about this, I don’t play poker I’m just trying to find something he will enjoy. I would hate to drive all the way to Blackhawk and find out they don’t have live games or they only have games at certain times etc and waste the day/night.
Thanks for any input :)

With the West Virginia primary election on Tuesday, May 14th, I wanted to do a brief reminder about some of the folks that are running for office whose names might sound familiar:
Derrick Evans - briefly elected to the WV House of Delegates before resigning, now running for the Republican nomination for US Congress in District 1 Likely the first member of the WV House of Delegates elected while having an active restraining order Invaded the Capitol on January 6th
Eric Porterfield - former member of the WV House of Delegates, currently running for the Republican nomination for WV State Senate in District 6 Blinded in a bar fight Compared the LGBTQ+ community to the KKK, and implied he would drown his children if they were gay
Tricia Jackson - running for the Republican nomination for State Auditor Posed with two members of the Proud Boys for a photo Recently arrested for failing to show up for meetings of the Jefferson County Commission
Doug Skaff - running for the Republican nomination for WV Secretary of State He was the former House Minority Leader for the Democrats in the House of Delegates, until he wasn't He's also a convicted casino cheat
Mike Maroney - current WV State Senator for District 2, running once again for the Republican nomination, which is the de facto election as there is no one else running for this office in the fall Mikey likes hookers
Randy Smith - current WV State Senator for District 14, running unopposed in the Republican primary, and will only face a Mountain Party opponent in the general election in the fall Randy thinks we should offer reduced prison sentences for drug users if they agree to be sterilized
Let me know if there's anyone I missed!

2024.05.09 17:15 Foulmouthedleon My Restoration: The First 100 Days

I do want to preface this by saying that I have sent this to a moderator (Agile_necessary) prior to posting and he's given it the "green light." This is in no way meant to upset or offend anyone. Just wanted to get that out of the way.
That said, let's get started.
By no means am I the President of the United States, so please don’t think that I think I’m something I’m not. I’m not. If you don’t get that reference – don’t worry about it. If you do, I assure you that this post is sure to entertain (and perhaps even enlighten).
Foreskin restoration. If you’d have told me that term at the beginning of 2024 I’d have probably said “Say what?” And I wish I could retrace the steps that led me here. Though I’ve been a “redditor” for 7 years (according to my profile), I’ve rarely used this widely used platform. But…here I am and here we are.
I’ll preface this by saying this will be a LONG post, so those of you who like the TL;DR stuff I’ll put that at the bottom. But if you’ve got a few minutes to kill, it might be worth the read. This isn’t an arbitrary post – I’ve put a lot of time into it as have we all with our restoring.
At the risk of sounding selfish, all the viewpoints in this will be related to, well, me. I’m just telling things from my point of view, what I’ve learned, what I’ve observed and what I’ve done (and hope to accomplish). And I’ll likely overuse parenthesis (because I like to).
About me
I’m 51 years old and I’m using my birthday as an official start date of my restoration. Maybe that’s the genesis and maybe not. But it’s a date I won’t forget and it’s about 99% accurate. I, like many/most of you, was circumcised when I was only a few days old. But unlike a lot of folks here, it was never an issue for me. I started masturbating when I was a teenager (again, like most folks here), had girlfriends and now a wife of 14 years (today, actually…yay!). Being able to climax was never an issue for me nor did I stand out in the high school locker room or in my fraternity’s shower. Everyone looked like me. And I was fine with that. Simply put…everything in my life, sexually, was fine. I never had any issues with self-esteem and so forth.
Why restore?
Ok, so if everything was going so swimmingly then why rock the boat? Well, I’ve always considered myself the black sheep of my family and, well, I’m sure those that know me would easily agree. So, when I stumbled across foreskin restoration my eyes immediately lit up and I verbally said “Oh shit! Is this really a thing?” I’ve never been envious of anyone who wasn’t circumcised, and, to date, I think I’ve only seen one dude “in the wild” that was. If anyone was curious, it was some old guy who’s probably dead now and it was in the shower at Kansas State University. I’m a swimmer and was in the shower after practice. I remember seeing it and was like “Whoa. That’s weird-looking.” Oh, and I was in Rome (or maybe it was Florence, I can’t remember) a few years ago and saw the statue of David and distinctly remember saying “I take it David wasn’t cut.” It amused me more than anyone I was with then again most of my life has been me entertaining myself for the hell of it. Whatever. I’m not a stand-up comic. I work in Marketing.
But, to my point…why restore? I figured that I’d give it a shot and if it worked, then I’d continue. If not, things weren’t really “broken” so I figured that I’d be no worse off than when I started. Prior to taking my hands or any other device to my “most vital organ” I figured I’d seek the advice of a professional. Here’s a link to my consult with a Urologist. It didn’t go as I’d planned. But as I’ve seen, the medical community in the United States and circumcision don’t really go hand in hand. I figured that no matter what he said, I’d use some common sense and proceed anyway. And I did. And I haven’t looked back.
OK, so now what?
I’ve visited with a physician; I’ve done plenty of reading and have tried to wrap my head around the various terms (more on that later) and now I’ve got to start stretching the skin on my penis in the hopes of lengthening it to look (about 80-90% of what it could/should look like) “better.” Good lord – what have I gotten myself into?
Do you drive stick?
Some of our younger members might not be familiar with a stick shift (or manual transmission), but I took three days of my life to be able to do it and, yep, it’s like riding a bike…once you learn, you never forget. By the way, the “stick” was meant to imply manual. I guess if I have to explain my humor, it’s not very funny. Oh, and that bolded line is a reference to Boyz N’ The Hood. Check it out.
Manual methods…yep, number two was it for me. Grab the base, stretch the top and induce mitosis. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? It is. It really is. But when you’re working from home and leading a call in front of 200 people it’s kind of hard to say “Hey, I gotta do MM2. Give me a few.” Well, I guess I could do that, but I’d be looking for a new job in no time. And if I’m at the gym or in the car, etc. You get the idea. Manual methods are great, but sometimes they’re not conducive to our daily schedules. So…what to do? Oh, I know – I’ll buy a DTR Dual Tension device. And I’ll buy a Mantor DS. They seem to be highly-regarded, so why not? Nope. See, the thing is that you need some extra skin (which I didn’t have). And though after a few weeks of doing manual methods when I’d remember, it just wasn’t enough. And for someone who gets easily frustrated, it can be somewhat frustrating. Enter the Stealth Retainer.
(Horns sounding)
I’d read Spiritfu’s post (someone who I credit with keeping me “in the game”) on packers. I wasn’t too fond of the name, but…so what (I’m a Chiefs fan, for what it’s worth)? I reached out to him and picked his brain and got his input. I figured, “Ok, well that sounds easy enough. Put it on, forget about it and all is well.” There’s more to it than that, of course, but in a nutshell – that’s it. I bought a device from someone on Etsy. It arrived in about 23 pieces. I didn’t think that was right. It wasn’t. Oops. He refunded my money. No harm, no foul. But I went to Stealth Retainers site and ordered the appropriately-named “Starter Kit.” Hey, we’ve all got to start somewhere. I’d also purchased some other devices in the interim like a TLC cone (that didn’t work), Chris’ retainer for the DTR (an integral part of this process) and…something else that I can’t seem to remember. Ok, so now I’ve got this gripper thing at the end of my penis and I’ve got some…thing at the end of that (a ball tugger). Now what? Is this it? Is this all I have to do? Well…yes. And no. There’s always a “No” isn’t there? It wasn’t long after I got the Starter Kit that I figured I needed a little something extra.
Weights. Yeah man…weights! But…wait? Do you like homophones? I love ‘em.
Kidding aside. Well, I guess if you take kidding aside, then disregard this post. But yes, I felt that I needed a little something extra dangling. I mean, if it’s all about tension and tension induces mitosis then more weight would be just what I need. But not too much. No. That’d be bad. After all, do I really want to stretch the skin so that it’s sore? Nope. Do I want tears “down there”? No way. A little will do ya. So, I ordered the stainless-steel bulb and, presto, it was enough so that I could feel it but not enough that I was uncomfortable.
One thing I’ve learned (and something I already knew) – there should never be any pain associated with restoration. No pain, no gain? Not here.
Ok, I’m all set. A month went by. Hey, I’ve got some loose skin. Cool! I told my wife. She was…mainly supportive, but asked a very intelligent question: “Will this hurt you?” and “Why are you doing this?” I had an answer for her first question, the second…well, let’s just say that’s my problem and not anyone reading this.
What’s all this then?
No, I’m not British. Only been to Liverpool. So, I’ve got all the elements in place. I’ve got the tools, I’ve got the time, I’ve got the motivation. But I still don’t understand a LOT of things. See? I’m coming back to something I mentioned above. These are things that I don’t understand and/or need explanation on. I’d made a post about not wanting the “shiny red glans…” which was locked and removed as a “Trigger Warning.” Oops. I did mean it at the time and still feel that way, though I’ve finally accepted the fact that if I’m to continue doing this, it will happen. When you’ve been accustomed to looking down and seeing the same thing for half a century, you tend to, well…get used to seeing things in a certain way. Knowing that I might see the skin peel off my penis and seeing the texture and color turn from a dull, matted color to a smooth, bright red is something that simply rubbed me the wrong way. Yeah, I’ll take the extra sensations, but why can’t things just stay the same?
But change is good. It hasn’t happened yet, but I feel that it will. At least that’s the plan.
As a result of the locked post, I reached out to a member who wrote a very articulate response (far more so than mine). Seeing as how the post was locked, I couldn’t respond. I messaged him and he told me that he would be willing to hear me out. Wasn’t that nice? As it turns out this user, Phenomenal Mysticism, knows his stuff. He did his best to explain to me some of the different part of the anatomy and what their meaning(s) were. I grasped most of what he said, but to put it in context:
I could go on. And on. But I think my point(s) have been made. I’ll end this by getting a bit serious.
This is that TL;DR section I’d promised above. You thought I’d forget, didn’t you?
Am I glad I discovered foreskin restoration? Absolutely. The new skin and new sensations that I’ve felt since embarking on this journey have been, well…breathtaking to say the least. That in and of itself is reason for me (and others) to continue.
Do I take this seriously? You bet. I tend to have a different perspective on things than most others. I assure you that if you’re doing this and it makes you look/feel better then keep on my friends.
Has my attitude on circumcision changed? Oh yeah. I had a conversation with my oldest stepson a few years ago. My (distant) nephew and his wife had a boy and my stepson’s comment to me was “Can you believe they circumcised their kid?” To which I responded “Yeah…so? It’s a pretty routine operation.” He rolled his eyes.
If that were to happen now my response would be “Well, that’s too bad. But it is their child. I wish they’d give him the chance to decide for himself what to do with the most vital part of his anatomy.”
Are there any real-world implications? Well…not really. I have had this fall off at the gym and at the casino. Why can’t this stuff happen in the privacy of my own home? When/if I’m fully restored, or at least to the point where I want to be, I plan to walk around my gym’s locker room proudly flaunting my stuff wanting someone to comment. They won’t, of course, but if and when they do…oh I’ll be ready.
Has sex/masturbation changed? Yep. For the better. I don’t think I’ve ever convulsed with pleasure for 20-30 seconds. When your wife says “Hey, are you OK?” to which I respond with a shuddered look saying “Yeeeaah.” That’s good. She knows.
Have you told anyone about your restoration? Just my wife, so far. The only others I’d tell would be my parents (who I do NOT blame for this) and possibly my brother. Anyone else I’d tell will most likely not care. Or won’t ever talk to me again. I mean, this isn’t the kind of thing you can show and/or tell anyone. Well…I guess I can, but I’d end up in jail.
Anything else? Yep. Your prostate. Don’t knock it, gents. Before I discovered restoration, I’d dabbled in the prostate with Aneros (subreddit Aneros). It’s all about strengthening your P/E muscle (penis) and the sphincter. Get those two working in cohesion and it’s a life/game changer. Seriously, check it out. That coupled with restoration will make ya a happy camper.
OK, maybe that was a bit longer than the traditional TL;DR stuff, but you get the idea.
One last thing.
There’s a lot of humor in what I wrote. That’s just me. I tend to use humor to disarm folks and as somewhat of a defense mechanism. But to be totally serious, I know and realize that this is a major thing for many people here. I realize that it’s given you hope, some levity in your life and has perhaps even brought you some inspiration. From what I’ve learned this this short amount of time, it has changed my view on what’s happening and what continues to happen.
My intent wasn’t to mock anything anyone is doing. After all, I’m doing it myself. I no longer view this as “a little flap of skin.” It’s far more than that and it took me a while to realize exactly how integral everything is and works together. The human body truly is an amazing machine.
Keep doing what you’re doing gents. It’ll get better, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there.

2024.05.09 03:26 Upbeat_Newspaper2463 PR REVIEW April 30-May7

Would love to share some highlights from my itinerary, pros and cons and all the things that I learned that you may want to know ahead of time!
Each place we stayed at had little water pressure. That could be common for PR. 2 women 30 yrs old and we never once felt unsafe. Everyone is friendly. Expect the stray cats and dogs. It’s so common. 3 dogs ran up onto me heading to Survivor beach. They were skiddish. Several beaches you can’t swim in. Mostly just surfing or large boulders that are beautiful for pictures. The UV index stays a 12. Bring your own sunscreen. You’ll pay $16 for it there. Gas prices are in LITERS. It’s going to rain every single day. It’ll pass, it won’t last long. But it’s going to rain every single day. And last but not least: “where can I find marijuana”. We personally had a harder time than people here are saying. We asked 5 different people before someone was willing to help us out. Expect people to be lighting up on the street. It’s normal but not over powering. Everyone minds their own business in PR.
If I could do anything differently I would’ve spent more time in Cabo Rojo. We saw and did SO much. Highly suggest renting a car. AND get to SJU 2.5 hours earlier than needed. I flew out on a Tuesday at 2:30 and it took a long time to get through about 6 security checks. This group helped me so much when I was there. Use the search bar and you’ll find a world of answers. Hope this helps!!

2024.05.06 20:56 bettytomatoes Life advice. Go do the things.

Ladies... Where to begin. Forgive the length.
My in-laws. Pretty normal marriage with normal ups and downs for 40 ish years. The last 20ish years, however, were different (so together 60 years). He had always been a bit of a controlling asshole, as most men of the boomer generation were. Never hit her or anything (which he is proud of), but was always very much "my way or the highway", never compromised, and everyone lived at the mercy of his decisions.
He made bad decisions.
Bad business deals, bad with money, gambling, etc.
Through it all, my MIL worked a steady job and kept the family afloat while he spent (or lost) every penny he made.
When the kids grew and left, and he "retired", he started gambling more and more. The casino was his only "fun". He burned through his entire savings, including retirement savings. He started burning through her savings. He couldn't get to her retirement account because that was the only thing that was in her name only, but he would have if he could have.
He never told her about the losses. She had no idea how much money they had, what he had taken. He controlled all of the accounts.
As he lost more and more money, naturally he became more and more bitter. He would get in moods where he simply wouldn't speak to her, at all, for months on end. Absolutely cruel emotional torture. She never knew what she did wrong, what he was mad about. He just pretended that she wasn't there.
When he did talk, he was angry and petty. She would ask him to do something with her, go somewhere, visit a friend, and he'd get mad. He wouldn't go anywhere but the casino.
And yet, he denied ever going to the casino. He'd say that he was going grocery shopping. He always came home with groceries, and then would cook them dinner in silence. But he'd be gone for hours, and this was every day.
She became suspicious when we had all been talking for months about going on a summer vacation together. My husband and I were happy to pay, since we knew they were on a fixed income. But they insisted that they would pay their fair share. We relented and agreed to let them pay. When it came time for them to pony up and buy their flights, he suddenly thought it was all "too expensive" and they couldn't go anymore. When we pressed, he claimed that they had some "unexpected bills" and could no longer afford to go. When MIL asked him "what unexpected bills?! We haven't had any unexpected bills", he went silent, and didn't speak to anyone for weeks.
MIL eventually figured out how to access the bank statements. Saw what he'd done, and it broke her heart.
Around this time, she had an aunt that passed away, and left her $20,000. Naturally, since all their other savings was now gone, she wanted to hold on to this $20,000. When he demanded she give it to him for him to "take care of", she refused. She opened her own account and didn't give him access. This infuriated him, and they lived like hostile roommates for months.
Finally, she had had enough and decided to email him (since he wouldn't speak to her). The email was heartbreaking, detailing her thoughts and feelings, how she felt she had been mistreated all these years, and how it's all just gotten worse and worse, and how she was finally going to take charge of her life. This was the ultimatum - stop going to the casino, start talking to her, start doing things with her and being a normal couple - or they would have to go their separate ways. She wasn't going to spend the few years she had left being miserable.
He finally spoke to her after months of not. "Let's just go our separate ways."
This was not the answer she was hoping for, after 60 years of marriage. So, naturally, she got a little angry and said some shit. Thoughts that she had never shared with him. Things he didn't know. What she "really" thought of him and the many horrific choices he'd made over the years that had devastated her over and over again.
He found these words unforgiveable.
She moved out. She moved to a retirement community where a friend lived. She LOVED it. LOVED IT!! She made a group of friends. They went shopping, they went to restaurants, they played cards and worked on puzzles, they did exercise classes and had social dances and played bingo and read books and talked and laughed and flirted with the single men and she told us that she was the happiest she had EVER been. I was SO FUCKING PROUD OF HER.
He, on the other hand, could no longer afford to live. His social security was not enough to pay his rent and bills and still eat. So he was forced to get a job - at 78. He got even worse, even more miserable, and every time we spoke to him, the rage would cut through the phone. He would talk to his son about his mother like she was the most evil person who had ever lived. He HATED her. He wished her dead. He wished her cancer.
He got his wish.
A few months ago, she started to feel pain. Health systems being what they are, it took her months to get a diagnosis. The pain got worse and worse, debilitating. We just got the official word last week. Very aggressive, terminal, very painful, no treatment, no cure.
She has chosen palliative care, and assisted suicide. (Canadian - they have that there). The process to get that procedure is a long one, but she has started it.
My husband and his brother avoided telling their dad she was sick until they had the offical diagnosis. So they called to tell him the news last week. He broke down, he said he still hated her. He said some awful things to his sons about their mother.
After getting the offical diagnosis, we got another call that she had taken another turn for the worse. So, my husband and I and our son packed up the car and drove 13 hours to see her. We drive right to the hospital and... FIL is lying in bed with MIL.
He showed up, he came back. This was shocking, surprising, happy, sad, and weird, and just a giant ball of awkward and confusion and fucked up.
She's on morphine and fentanyl, so... of course she's "ok" with him being there. She'd be OK with just about anything right now.
At first, we thought it was positive, that he had decided to forgive, put the petty shit aside, etc. He did genuinely seem caring, the way he'd help her move around. He even helped her go into the bathroom and held her up at her most vulnerable. Helped her back to bed. When he kissed her I wanted to throw up. It was such a confusing mess.
As the next day or so went on, we saw, though... he hasn't changed. Not one bit.
She had requested rotisserie chicken for dinner. She wanted us all to have dinner together in the "party room" at the hospice. He was tasked with picking up the chicken. She has her favorite chicken place. He agreed. He shows up with the chicken. It's the wrong chicken. Not the one she wanted. "If I had gone there, I would have to wait 20 minutes for them to cook it. This is fine."
It was not fine. Who knows how many meals this woman has left?! Get her the right fucking chicken!
She asked for water. He gets up and puts a cup under the tap.
MIL: "No, I want bottled water."
FIL: "There's nothing wrong with the tap water."
MIL: "I don't like the taste. The bottled water tastes better."
FIL: "I'm not paying for bottled water."
And then. And THEN. He says, "when was the last time we were all together like this?" No one says a word. Don't do this now, man. He says it again. Louder. "It was over a year ago! Can you believe it?! And whose fault is that?! YOURS." He says to her.
It took every fiber of my being to not leap across that table and bash his head on the ground. Fucking fuck.
This man has ZERO accountability. He told my husband that he thinks the reason she left him is because she was "greedy". She didn't want to share her $20,000. That's THE ONLY reason she left. He was SUCH a good husband, and only her greed could have made her do something so awful. He keeps saying, "money is the root of all evil. Look at what it did to us." He's right about that... but somehow he's still got it so wrong.
He thinks he's the "bigger man" for coming back and "helping her" now. HE'S the hero. HE'S the good guy. HE'S the one who's putting the petty differences aside and swooping in at her hour of need.
I could go on about the delusion.
But to save time... my point is... don't let this happen to you. Don't accept this kind of treatment. Get out. If you're in your 20s (or any age) and your BF is already controlling and talks down to you... GET OUT NOW. It does NOT get BETTER with age.
Take control of your own fucking life. This woman had ONE year. ONE year of peace and happiness. ONE year in her ENTIRE life where she was actually in control of her own destiny. ONE year where she could go where she wanted to go, eat what she wanted to eat, be with who she wanted to be with. And now she's choosing how she's going to die. That's empowering and incredible, but also so fucking heartbreaking.
Go do the things. Take that trip. Learn that language. Hone that craft. Go to that concert (buy the good seats). Jump out of that plane or climb that mountain or whatever the fuck it is that you want to do. GO DO IT. If your partner isn't supportive, kick him the fuck out. Don't spend 60 years with someone who never lets you have the chicken you want. Don't spend 60 years with a liar, a cheater, a gambler, an emotionally stunted fucker.
(And when you have a pain, get it checked out and don't you dare quit until a doctor actually hears you and listens and orders ALL the tests).
There are good men out there (my husband knew his dad was shit and spent his entire life trying to be NOTHING like him. He succeeded). I'm not saying to not partner up, to not get married. I love being married. Men can be absolutely wonderful. But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't settle! Don't settle for shit like this!!
And any men reading this... why? Why are so many of you like my FIL? If you claim that you love her, why do you view her as your adversary? Someone to correct, to control. Someone to order around like a servant. That's not love. If you actually LOVE her... why treat her like this? Why can't she do what she wants to do? Why can't you just buy her the right fucking chicken? Would it kill you? Can you just LISTEN? Can you put yourself in her shoes and try to imagine what she must feel like? Why can't you just be kind? What's WRONG with so many of you?! I will never understand.
That's all. I just... you know. I'm so sad. Fuck.
EDIT: To answer some of your questions... we did ask her, several times, if she wanted him to leave. She said no. She said it was OK. We told her, in no uncertain terms, that whatever she wanted, we would do. Even if she just wanted a break from him, but not to ban him completely. Whatever she wanted. She said she didn't want anything. She was fine. She was at peace with everything, at peace with him. She doesn't want to fight, doesn't want us to fight.
We even told the nurses and the doctor in charge the whole story - that FIL was newly back in the picture, but that for the last year, they hadn't seen each other, and things had been very contentious. FIL was allowed in, FOR NOW, but to please check on her regularly and make sure that she's OK. They agreed to check regularly, kick him out of the room and talk to her independently and make sure she wanted him around, and would take action if she ever said so. They also arranged for a social worker to come and talk to her about it.
About the will... they had not finalized the divorce by the time she got her diagnosis. She was in the process of changing her will, but those changes hadn't been official. They are still technically married, so the money is still technically his. BUT, she transferred a large sum to my BIL and told him who to write checks to. And she told FIL, in front of all of us, who she wanted money to go to. He agreed, in front of all of us, that he wouldn't interfere with her wishes.
Legally, if he wanted to fight that decision, he probably could, but I don't think he'd dare. She specified a sum for my son, and honestly, the only person I think FIL cares about, other than himself, is my son - his only grandchild. I don't THINK he's going to fight the money going to others. He's still getting a decent sum. And the last thing he'd want is to "look bad" so I don't think he'd go back on his word. If he did, that would certainly be the end of it for my husband and his brother.
On that note, my husband and his brother (the only kids) are FURIOUS with their father. They think he is scum and the only reason they aren't physically fighting him is because they don't want to cause their mother any further stress. They can't stand him.
He doesn't deserve a penny, but I can hope that he'll just drop dead soon, before he has a chance to lose it all.
What's so weird is that he REALLY does NOT understand what he did wrong. You know how you can tell when someone's embarrassed but trying to save face? Yeah... that's not him. He's not embarrassed. He genuinely has no idea that he did anything wrong. This is 100% HER fault. SHE is the crazy one who lost her mind and left him (even after HE told HER that they should go their separate ways). She TOLD him WHY she left him... he insisted that no, she's wrong. She REALLY left over something else. I'd call it gaslighting, but he's not that smart. He isn't trying to be manipulative. He is just really that delusional.

2024.05.06 19:32 Allifeur The Economic Assets of the Venture Co. and why we will return to the Undermine

From the old 1999 maps of Warcraft, only one place never made to the game : The Undermine, the underground economic capital of the goblin cartels, located in the South Seas. It was originally planned to be implemented as part of World of Warcraft, but was later scraped due to the excessive amount of work it would have required. We only saw a glimpse of it during the goblin starting zone, before a volcanic eruption supposedly destroyed Kezan and its undergrounds. We later learned that only the northen coast of the island has been affected by the event and that the Venture Trading Company invested it.
The Exploring Azeroth books tell us that the Venture Co. is still in activity, despite us raiding the mogul in charge of Crapopolis, demonstrating that their main headquarter probably wasn't located there. I wouldn't be particularly surprised to learn that a large chunk of the underground tunnels have been unaffected or reconstructed since then.
The Venture Co. is still doing perfectly well economically and we don't know why. We have rarely seen any faction buy from them : Canonically, only the defias brotherhood, the iron Horde and a gnome loyal to the Burning Legion have been shown making deals, which doesn't seem to fit what they have been extracting for the past decades. For you to have a better grasp of their power, here is a list of everything they possess :
They also have their own newspaper, scouts, recruiters and consultants. They would employ absolutely anyone : Dwarves, gnolls, gilgoblins, ogres, humans, trolls, and sometimes even gnomes. (But the later are considered controversial)
Since they have never shown any interest in the several Kajamite mines around the world, it's probably safe to assume they already possess a large quantity of it and have no interest fighting the Bilgewater cartel over it, as it would only devalue their own mine.
Since we never hear about who they're trading with, it either mean these resources are mainly be used for their own industry, or that they're trading with factions we have not seen yet and willingly keep some secrets from the rest of the world.
But that's not all! Another card has been walking of the turf of the Venture Company : Trade Prince Gallywix. He purchased Crapopolis from his own pocket money, gaining control of the previous Azerite mine, workshops and research facilities found there. It is likely Gallywix has big plans to become a big player once again and he won't stop until he's able to buy the property of the rival trade princes.
During Shadowlands, he has been seen with the brokers of the cartel Xy within a bar of Tazavesh. While we can't know what he was negociating with them, I would speculate that he's interested in bringing back the soul of the genius Helix Blackfuse, the mind behind all the designs of the iron Horde. We know from Revendreth there is a special afterlife for engineers called Craftenium which the Brokers would know about, which would definitely help Gallywix up his game against the Tinker Union.
In any case, it is clear that next time we'll see Gallywix, he'll be even more powerful than before, and might very well have made his own place within the Undermine. And considering his past tendancy of allying with larger forces to gain power, he will certainly do it again now more than ever.
I still have some big hopes for the potential of what this area could be : A 1920s big city vibe with crazy road tracks going over lava, giant buildings covered in light bulbs, giant goblin vilas amongst the slums, a casino held by trolls, disco dance floors, and crazy factories.
As you can see the potential is very large, and I doubt Blizzard would miss an opportunity to show it.

2024.05.05 03:37 ArionH20 Innovative Food Holdings $IVFH Mini Pitch ~50m USD MC - Turnaround with new management cutting costs and ready to hit second phase of revenue growth

Company Overview
Innovative Food Holdings, Inc. (IVFH) is a food distribution company that builds itself by selling specialty foods. Such specialty foods include various types of seafood, meats, and cheeses. Innovative Food Holdings Inc. distributes to many establishments, such as restaurants, casinos, and catering companies. Innovative Food Holdings has three central locations in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Illinois, and Bonita Springs, Florida, with 200K, 28K, and 5K square foot areas, respectively. Innovative Food Holdings also has an e-commerce business that sells food through its website. The two companies work in tandem to produce IVFH revenue. In March 2023, Innovative Food Holdings got a new CEO who has changed up the managers within the company. The company trades at $0.99 and has a market cap of ~50m USD. The company has 127 total employees and earned 20.1 million in revenue over the fourth quarter of 2023.
Market position: IVFH is a specialized segment in the more significant food distribution industry. Sysco (SYY) is the most critical indirect competitor for IVFH, and they have a 56.33% market weight. The following two market leaders are US Food Holding Corp. (USFD), representing 50% of Innovative Food Holdings Revenue, with an 18.11% market weight, and Performance Food Group Corp. (PFGC), a 16.67% market weight.
Shareholders: IVFH has had three major institutional shareholders, totaling about 30% of the shares. JCP Investment Management LLC, Bandera Partners LLC, and Carlson Ridge Capital LLC have held 18.10%, 7.15%, and 4.74%, respectively. 31.16% of the shareholders are comprised of insiders.
Investment Thesis
L&H Capital rates Innovative Food Holdings (IVFH) as a STRONG BUY with a Target Price of $2. The following key points drive our recommendation:
Loading the Revolver – IVFH's new leadership boasts a strong alignment with shareholder value. Their significant stock options are tied to reaching performance targets, directly linking their financial rewards to the company's success. This is further emphasized by their proven track record in relevant industries (e.g., Bill Bennett's e-commerce expertise). The leadership team prioritizes the core, profitable B2B business and implements cost-cutting measures, demonstrating a commitment to maximizing shareholder returns.
Profitable Niche with Untapped Growth Potential – IVFH's core B2B business thrives in a high-margin niche market (specialty food service) compared to broadline distributors. This focus allows them to cater to chefs' needs and avoid price competition. The business operates on a scalable, asset-light model, minimizing investment needs for significant revenue growth. Management acknowledges past neglect of this core business, presenting a substantial opportunity to capture a larger market share through improved sales and marketing efforts. The Chicago branch's organic doubling in size exemplifies this untapped potential.
Streamlined Operations and Improved Financials – By divesting the unprofitable e-commerce business and its real estate, Innovative Food Holdings (IVFH) is streamlining operations, eliminating debt to 0, being net cash, and unlocking significant cash flow. This allows them to focus resources on their core, profitable B2B business (specialty food service) with a clear growth path.
Industry Analysis
Food Distribution Market:
Although the food distribution industry is outside the top 20 sectors, it has risen recently. In 2023, the market size was 382 billion. It is expected to register a CAGR of 3.9%. The steady growth in this industry is beneficial, as the company can snowball. The food distribution market will steadily increase for years. North America is the largest region in the food distribution market, accounting for around 60% of the market in 2023. The largest company in this market from the US is Sysco, which is one of IVFH’s indirect competitors. They have around 56.33% of the market weight.
The reason IVFH is not a direct competitor is its niche. Broadline distributors function as one-stop shops, offering a vast selection of products from national brands to private labels. They excel at catering to high-volume buyers like large chain restaurants and grocery stores by providing competitive prices on shelf-stable goods, canned items, and frozen foods. On the other hand, specialty distributors cater to niche markets with a focused selection. They might specialize in organic, ethnic, or gourmet foods or even specific products like fresh seafood or unique cuts of meat. These distributors are ideal for upscale restaurants or stores prioritizing unique ingredients or a particular cuisine theme. While specialty distributors may have higher prices due to smaller buying volumes and potentially perishable items, they offer the advantage of selection in these categories. If you need a wide variety of everyday items at competitive prices, a broadline distributor is the way to go.
Competitive Positioning
Moat Analysis: Moderate-Moat
Supplier Relationships: IVFH emphasizes building relationships with small producers of specialty foods. They have been cultivating strong relationships with reliable sources for hard-to-find items.
Curated Selection & Expertise: Their focus on quality, uniqueness, and navigating the fragmented specialty food distribution industry paired with food regulations gives them a solid niche for exploit
Distribution Capabilities: The ability to pack, ship, and deliver a unique variety of perishable and nonperishable foods is an advantage if they can handle logistics efficiently
Porter’s Five Forces:
Bargaining Power of Customers—Insignificant (4 out of 5): Innovative Food Holdings sells to multiple types of customers, such as fancy establishments like restaurants and everyday household items like charcuterie boards.
Intensity of Competitive Rivalry—Low (3 out of 5): Innovative Food Holdings sells niche products specific to its company. Other food distribution companies like Sysco sell more broadline food types, while IVFH sells more particular products. This differentiation is crucial as it shows how IVFH is different from others.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers – No (5 out of 5): Many types of food sellers are prevalent in America, so many prices are stable and do not change.
Threat of Substitutes—Medium (3 out of 5): Because specialty food service requires partnerships and connections, companies like US Foods can drop their partnership with IVFH and substitute them for alternatives. However, because creating these partnerships involves a lot of work and trouble, the threat of substitutes is medium.
Threat of New Entrants—Low (3 out of 5): Entering the specialty food distribution industry is highly challenging due to the presence of more prominent brands. Additionally, it is difficult to talk to suppliers and customers first, as contacting restaurants and farms is challenging. Bonds need to be formed first before creating such a company.
Management & Governance
A Fresh Start Under New Leadership – Innovative Food Holdings (IVFH) has been breathing new life under the direction of its recently appointed management team, led by CEO Bill Bennett, since March 2023. With his background in e-commerce from industry giants like Walmart and Kroger, Bennett brings a wealth of experience. Moreover, he and his chosen COO, Brady Smallwood, have incentive-based compensation plans directly tied to the company's stock price. This strong alignment with shareholder interests suggests a leadership team focused on creating value for investors. Let's delve deeper into these incentive plans.
Taking Decisive Action – Addressing past issues and focusing on core strengths, one of the new management's first crucial moves was identifying the e-commerce business as a significant source of losses. In January 2024, they shut down this segment entirely. This eliminated a substantial financial burden and freed up valuable resources that could be directed toward more profitable endeavors. Furthermore, selling real estate associated with the e-commerce business provided a welcome cash flow boost.
The new leadership team has shifted its focus to the core B2B segment (specialty food service for professional chefs), a historically profitable area. Recognizing the customer concentration risk, they've implemented a growth strategy to diversify their client base. This includes securing new contracts with large broadline distributors and airline caterers. These new partnerships reduce dependence on US Foods, a single large customer, and expand IVFH's reach and revenue potential.
Improving Profitability and a Board Aligned with Shareholders - The new management team didn't stop there. Even before shutting down the e-commerce business, they sought to improve its profitability. By raising prices and cutting unnecessary marketing expenses, they demonstrably increased margins within this segment. This commitment to financial health extends across all aspects of the company.
The composition of the Board of Directors also suggests a positive shift. Significant shareholders like Pappas and Jeff Gramm indicate a board with a vested interest in IVFH's success. This alignment leads to decisions prioritizing shareholder value, further propelling the company's growth.
Incentive Plans to Drive Shareholder Value - Bill Bennett's stock option plan clearly shows how management compensation is tied to shareholder value. The plan grants him options to purchase a significant number of shares (around 6% of the company) if the stock price reaches $2.00 per share. This incentivizes Bennett to increase the company's stock price, benefiting shareholders.
Similarly, Brady Smallwood's stock option plan likely has similar features. His options vest based on achieving specific performance targets, possibly related to earnings per share (EPS) growth. This structure aligns his interests with those of shareholders, encouraging him to make decisions that drive profitability and stock price appreciation.
Revenue Drivers
Customer Acquisition and Diversification—The company seeks to reduce its dependence on US Foods by signing new contracts with three large broadline distributors and an airline caterer. “Q1 has already included signing a new contract with an existing large customer, Gate Gourmet, and exciting progress made in relationships with four large new customers. We expect these new relationships to contribute to revenue in the back half of the year.
Growth in Drop-Shipping Model – The drop-shipping segment offers higher margins than the traditional model and presents a unique value proposition in the industry. IVFH plans to focus on expanding this segment due to its high profitability and lack of direct competition.
Financial Analysis
Revenue: The B2B segment will drive revenue, with projections of ~$75 million for the fiscal year 2024. This is based on existing business and new contracts. New customer diversification is expected to contribute significantly.
Profitability: The B2B segment before the acquisition of the “bad” e-commerce business had gross margins of ~30% and operating margins of 10%, indicating that the industry could be lucrative. Improved margins are expected due to cost-cutting measures and focus on the core business.
Cash:
They are selling off the e-commerce business real estate (estimated to generate $8-12 million net cash).
Improved profitability from the B2B segment.
Reduced inventory: The drop-shipping model requires minimal inventory investment, potentially leading to a decrease in this asset category.
Debt:
The company is expected to be debt-free from selling loss-making assets and have a surplus, bringing down EV (enterprise value) to mid-30s —low-40s million.
Valuation
My 2028 target price is $2 per share for Innovative Food Holdings, representing a 101.39% upside from the current share price. I arrive at my target price through the following assumptions:
For my valuation, I only use the B2B Prof. Services because management is winding down on the e-commerce segment and honing in on Prof. Services. Using past commentary for my projections, I arrived at a Revenue CAGR of 15.5%, with gross margins reaching 30%, and operating margins of 8% based on the filings before acquiring the e-commerce business. Also, I determined to use a terminal multiple for EV/EBIT at 10.
Valuation analysis: In 2028, we achieve revenue of $122,309,419.5, COGS of $85,616,594, gross profit of $36,692,826, SG&A of $26,908,072, which is 22% of income, and EBIT of 9,784,754. Using a terminal multiple of 10, we arrive at $1.99, representing a 101.39%% upside in 5 years and giving an IRR of ~20%.
Investment Risks
Inflation: IVFH might have trouble in this area due to recent inflation issues. Raw material costs and consumer spending shoot up, an issue for any part of the food industry.
Limited Customer Type: IVFH has limited customer types because it only sells to two major groups: restaurants and homespun parties. Revenue can only come in from one source, a significant issue for any company trying to grow. The small consumer base is risky because all companies compete for the same buyers. IVFH’s customers are also specific to their products, which is an issue because it means they can have trouble branching out.
Conclusion
IVFH presents a compelling investment opportunity underpinning its strategic focus on core B2B specialty food service operations. With an IRR of ~20%, IVFH's valuation analysis underscores its promising growth trajectory and robust returns for investors. The company's proactive measures, streamlined operations, and emphasis on profitability position it favorably for long-term success. As IVFH navigates the evolving landscape of the food distribution industry, its commitment to driving shareholder value and capitalizing on untapped growth potential makes it a classic turnaround play that could one day be more.
PS: This was for the YIS stock pitch competition and doesn’t reflect what future work will entail. Also, I believe the valuation process underrepresents what I think the company could be worth. I worked with a partner, Keith Leung(keithleung36@gmail.com), which also doesn’t reflect his future work. We were set to a specific guideline that restricted what we hoped to explore more, but this will be the final form for this IVFH pitch as we are at the bottom of the 9th of high school. As for me, I hope to write more during the summer and will release a portfolio overview, which I’m very excited to do once I complete my final exams in late June. Thank you for reading & I would enjoy any feedback possible.
